- 0:00Welcome to the Be Perfect Cool podcast.
- 0:02My name is Rex 45. We got Smitty in the building.
- 0:06Reese, TJ. What's going on, fellas?
- 0:08How's everyone doing? We start with our TJ man.
- 0:10How you doing this weekend? I mean, it's day today.
- 0:13We're doing good over here. You know, it's another week like
- 0:17the weather's good up here in Northeast.
- 0:19Finally back going too as always right now and you know just
- 0:24watching motorcycles everywhere getting knowledge and can't
- 0:27complain right now feels good out here.
- 0:30Yes. What's up?
- 0:30That's what's up, Reese. What's going on, man?
- 0:32You go, you're out in West Coast this past weekend, man.
- 0:37We'll catch up on all that. But how you doing today?
- 0:39I can't complain man. Just living the dream and I
- 0:43guess gearing up for Laguna, gearing up for another West
- 0:45Coast round. I mean, do you, do you wake up
- 0:48every morning and pinch yourself or you pinch yourself before you
- 0:50go to sleep because you are living the dream?
- 0:54I think I, I think in the beginning of my, the beginning
- 0:57of the crowd was pinching myself and then realized after about
- 1:00five years I'm like, oh wait, this isn't a dream no more.
- 1:03It's just reality. It's that's pretty dope reality
- 1:08man. For sure.
- 1:09Smitty. What's good man?
- 1:10How you doing man? Everything's going good man.
- 1:12Just got back home from a club race at Barber this weekend, so
- 1:16home chilling, you know? That's it really.
- 1:19Aye, aye, that's what's happening.
- 1:20We were talking about this before we started recording.
- 1:22So let's talk about club racing lifestyle, you know, How was it
- 1:26for you? How did you make out?
- 1:28How many races did you do? So the plan was to do 3 races,
- 1:321/3 Saturday and three Sunday. Sunday got rained out, a lot of
- 1:38lightning within 5 and things like and they kept pushing him
- 1:40back and he just got rained out. But Saturday had two races.
- 1:45First race my my results weren't where I would hope they would
- 1:48be. But because the guys I was with
- 1:51wore a similar pace, it was a lot of fun doing the back and
- 1:54forth. But he passed me, I passed him
- 1:56and vice versa, and that's always fun and you know, with
- 2:00the racing the bottom, like the top five guys aren't racing the
- 2:06five through 10 guys like their pockets of races within each
- 2:09race. So my pocket, even though I was
- 2:11in the back, was a fun pocket of the being, you know what I'm
- 2:14saying? So and then I had a little crash
- 2:17the second race, sling bad. I hit a false neutral and I lost
- 2:21all my you know, break and going going to a, you know, a corner.
- 2:25We're going to be a little bit too hot ran off a little tip
- 2:28over in the gravel. That's it.
- 2:29Spikes those scratched up, but not bad.
- 2:32Not bad so. A lesson learned, you know, let
- 2:37let let's dive a little bit more with and I'll bring TJ into this
- 2:40as well. You know, when when we start,
- 2:42when I started club racing, you know, I was struggling in the
- 2:46beginning. It took me probably four to five
- 2:48years, I would say, I think as well.
- 2:50So it's different for up north because up north they got, you
- 2:54know, in New England they have novice, amateur and expert, but
- 2:59down by you guys, it's amateur and expert only.
- 3:02So like as a novice, I did really well, but then when I
- 3:05became an amateur, I struggled for a bit and stuff like that.
- 3:09And it took me a little while to, to, to find my pace.
- 3:13So like how how's it for you Smitty and and finding your pace
- 3:16and, and what's that like? Frustrating because it seemed
- 3:20like when I first started I was getting better slowly, but you
- 3:25know, it's progress so and it's racing.
- 3:27It's not open eye thing. We get better, you know, a 10th
- 3:30of a second here, those things out of, you know, over time.
- 3:34And I was doing that, but I plateaued and at some points
- 3:38I've regressed and I can't figure out why.
- 3:40So yes, it's very much frustrating actually.
- 3:43And you know, I know that feeling.
- 3:45How about yourself, TJ, Before we go back to Smitty, what's
- 3:48what's it been like and what's your struggles in, in, in in
- 3:53track racing? You know, like like you said
- 3:58Rexy, I did really well for me. I did really well as a novice
- 4:02and once I became an amateur, I actually progressed pretty well.
- 4:08Every year or every rounds I increased my time or my time
- 4:13went down. I got into the teens and then
- 4:16the next following year there's a little set back.
- 4:19I couldn't figure out why I didn't know if I was my body
- 4:22position was off the bike needed work or, or what is going on.
- 4:26So I figured out it's really important to to take notes as
- 4:31you get faster because things really start to matter at this
- 4:35point. You know, like your tire
- 4:37choices, the weather, you know, like you know your tire
- 4:41pressure, certain things matter. So it's good to write them down
- 4:45to keep the data. So I think that will help me
- 4:50improve. I know a lot of people have
- 4:52teams, you know, or at least like teammates that help them
- 4:55with all this extra stuff. So I usually go out and watch
- 5:01the experts of amateurs at each corner just to listen to the
- 5:04bikes to see what together in when they're downshifting, when
- 5:07they're upshifting. And I try to go out and imitate
- 5:10as best I can. So that has helped me,
- 5:13especially last year on the summer.
- 5:14Yeah, I would, I would say that that's, that's, you know,
- 5:17watching people and, you know, talking to people at the
- 5:20racetrack, which I was fortunate because people brought me to the
- 5:22racetrack. So, you know, I had people to
- 5:25talk to. If I was on my own, I probably
- 5:26wouldn't talk to anyone. But like, you know, it's, it's
- 5:30good when people come up and talk to you.
- 5:32So I know that you have people coming up to you Smitty and try
- 5:34to give you pointers and stuff like that.
- 5:36Or maybe just kind of figure out where you are racing and then
- 5:39also like how, how much racing are you doing this year?
- 5:42The thing with taking pointers from people, it's tough because
- 5:48I don't know who this guy is. I don't know his intentions, I
- 5:51don't know his experience level. And sometimes, like everybody
- 5:54knows everything. So it's like he takes so much
- 5:57with a grain of salt, you know what I'm saying?
- 6:00And I don't want to blow anybody off because, you know, just
- 6:02being open minded to all info. But if one guy says yeah, hey,
- 6:07you know, start breaking at the three board, one guy.
- 6:10Hey, now do it at the four board.
- 6:12OK, well, now I'm getting info that's kind of conflicting.
- 6:16So you get too much info from too many people and it's like,
- 6:21yo, just sometimes you don't want that much.
- 6:23Then now you're more confused almost.
- 6:25And so you just kind of got to got to black it out, find what,
- 6:28find what works, you know for you, right?
- 6:30Right. I was going to say, did you, did
- 6:32you try breaking at the four board or the three, three board?
- 6:34No. I mean, I'll break where I feel
- 6:37like candy. You know, obviously it's like
- 6:39when that that thing goes off of your head and say it's now mofo
- 6:43not and then. But then here's the weird thing
- 6:47though. Like your brain is still
- 6:48conditioned for survival. Like I tell myself, you know,
- 6:52yes, I'm going to break at the three board.
- 6:55I tell myself that, but my body does it at the four.
- 6:58Oh yeah, Oh yeah. I'd come off at the gas on the
- 7:02four and then hit the three. So I'm coasting 4 a little bit
- 7:05before I I. Yeah, but your body just tells
- 7:08you do it this way or else you're going to.
- 7:12Die Reese, you got any advice for for this video myself or or
- 7:16TJ to get faster other than ignore Any thoughts?
- 7:20Give me that rich that that that Richard Stamboli advice man,
- 7:24they all his riders. You either on the gas or you're
- 7:30off the gas. Which one you ain't no coasting
- 7:32is either break or gas either go or not.
- 7:35I mean, I was told that by, you know, a couple of races.
- 7:39You know, it's either you want the brakes, you're off the
- 7:40brakes, no in between. If you actually watch the guys,
- 7:44you can see the data. There's there's very little,
- 7:47there's very little. There's barely no coasting, just
- 7:53getting comfortable on your bike and see where you're at for
- 7:55breaking. I mean, I, I was, I was actually
- 7:59told by a couple of races, like even when I went out there for
- 8:02schools and everything else. Let's try breaking at four.
- 8:06OK, you're good at. We did like 4 laps on four and
- 8:09then we went to try breaking at 3 and that's when they're behind
- 8:14me and we'll try to break at 3:00 and then we'll break.
- 8:18And then keep doing lap after lap after lap after lap.
- 8:21You'll get comfortable and then try doing it at 2:00 and just
- 8:26keep going. And like I know JP said, Jason
- 8:30Pridmore, he was always like get your downshifting done well
- 8:32before you even start your breaking, get your downshifting
- 8:34done. Get your select gear where you
- 8:36need to be, then get in that corner.
- 8:40Get in there like you want to get that braking done.
- 8:42You know, set up all your stuff before you even start entering
- 8:45that corner. So as you're entering the
- 8:47corner, you already just break to the apex and gas out of
- 8:51there. Got you.
- 8:54Nice, nice. Yeah, man, it's a tricky thing.
- 8:57But also, you know, we find that the more you can be on the bike
- 9:00helps you know more, the more track days you can do.
- 9:03I found, you know, late in 2021 when I did a lot of racing, it
- 9:06was my fastest year just because I was just on the bike almost
- 9:10every other weekend where, you know, if you're doing, you know,
- 9:135 rounds a year or seven rounds a year.
- 9:16And if you only get in like a couple of races in a weekend,
- 9:20it's not really enough to get you.
- 9:21I mean, some guys can come and do that for sure, But I find
- 9:25when I'm, when I'm, when I'm riding the most is, is what I'm
- 9:28doing the best, Then everything is natural, everything feels
- 9:31natural. Moving the bike around, all that
- 9:34feels natural. And, and you know, the last
- 9:36thing I'll say before we move on to Moto GP and stuff like that,
- 9:39ergonomics, you know, making sure your bars are comfortable
- 9:42for you, your pegs are comfortable for you.
- 9:44It sounds silly, but those simple things alone can make a
- 9:47huge difference, right? Makes a big difference.
- 9:52How can you tell like someones like where their peg should be?
- 9:56Like what, what would be? Is it like your comfort level or
- 10:00it's like, alright, this is like the height of your bike or
- 10:04something like that, you know? I think Reese probably has
- 10:08people that can tell on a professional level, but I, I,
- 10:11from what I was told, if you have adjustable rear sets, just
- 10:15change the positions and go do a couple of laps.
- 10:18Your suspension, just, you know, do a couple of clicks, One
- 10:20Direction, go do some laps, go 2 clicks ahead, another direction
- 10:24all the way just to learn your bike.
- 10:26And then you'll start to figure out what your, what you like and
- 10:29what you don't like. Because at the end of the day, I
- 10:31think it's all between our ears anyway.
- 10:35Like. I'm.
- 10:36Tall and mine is all the way back.
- 10:39Mine is back, yeah. Because mine feels comfortable,
- 10:44but like, you know, I have never adjusted it to all right, let's
- 10:48try a little further back. You know, I haven't, you know,
- 10:51it feels really comfortable where it is.
- 10:53So I've never really messed with it.
- 10:55But you know, who knows, Like I, I should try that.
- 10:58Maybe that can just change just a little bit like my teeth
- 11:02position, stuff like that. So just a question on that.
- 11:06Yeah, try. Try moving it back, do a couple
- 11:09laps, see how you feel and then go from there.
- 11:14Any thoughts Smitty, if we move on, no.
- 11:17No, no, I mean like the bike feels.
- 11:19It feels comfy enough, you know what I'm saying?
- 11:20It feels good enough. It just, I'm not using what I
- 11:23have it's potential that's all or close to it so.
- 11:27I know that. You know, one thing that I don't
- 11:29do is blame the bike. Oh, my bike's not good.
- 11:31Nah. Oh yeah, yeah, you're not the
- 11:36the typical rider. Nah.
- 11:38But sometimes I want to blame the bike.
- 11:40Sometimes it is the bike. You know, I had a situation like
- 11:43that where, you know, I, I think I went to almost the whole
- 11:45season and, and, you know, beating myself up like why, why
- 11:50can't I do this? What's going on?
- 11:52And I had the bike checked out and it did the settings was off
- 11:56a little bit on the bike on the front end.
- 11:58And, you know, so sometimes it is the bike.
- 12:01And when you're a new rider, you don't know if it's you or the
- 12:04bike. You know, I'm saying you're
- 12:05always going to think it's you as a new rider, maybe, you know,
- 12:08you know, you're, you know, these professional riders may
- 12:10think it's the bike all the time.
- 12:11But like us, you know, we're always sitting here saying it's
- 12:15us, it's us, it's us. But sometimes it is the bike and
- 12:18you don't, you know, I was too busy blaming myself so much that
- 12:22I didn't even think about that. And then I just finally like
- 12:24after so you know, like 2 1/2 years, like I said, I was, I
- 12:27was, it was like a struggle from 2017 to 20 to 2019-2020, you
- 12:33know, for me. So it was like I had a few years
- 12:35where it was just like just the back of the pack again, back of
- 12:37the pack again. I wasn't always like this.
- 12:40I did AI did a, you know, I did a 22 and 2017 and then was stuck
- 12:44at the back. So it's got it checked out and
- 12:48that that made a difference. So sometimes it is the bike, but
- 12:52you know big when you run out of ideas to try, you have to you
- 12:56know, as you know, and we'll talk about this.
- 12:58I think Peko maybe at that point running out of ideas, but you
- 13:01know, it is but you. Know I plead the fifth.
- 13:07I plead the 5th. Oh man, so you know, racing in
- 13:13Aston, it was on it was very first track.
- 13:15I, I went to go watch live Aston racetrack.
- 13:19I went in 2017 and I was the Valentino won that won that
- 13:23race. I think it was the last race he
- 13:24won. So it was it was pretty dope.
- 13:28It's a, you know, from video games.
- 13:29It's a pretty dope track. You guys thoughts on qualifying
- 13:33that Yamaha, you know, 444 pole positions in 5-6 races.
- 13:38It's pretty impressive there. No, they're like a civil.
- 13:43It's not a fluke. You know, eventually they found
- 13:46a groove, but race pace, he just kind of not pace, but he had a
- 13:51little mishap, got caught up with some shit and fell back.
- 13:55So, but they're making progress. Pardon me.
- 14:01And now I'm liking it. I'm liking it.
- 14:05I mean, it's saying something and stepping in the right
- 14:07direction. I mean, they really just got to
- 14:10figure out the race pace. I mean, every try play out is
- 14:13different. So you're going to have a
- 14:15different set up. But Fabio's just running really
- 14:20hard. Also he's he's really trying to
- 14:24show them like, hey, we we need this to compete and I'm putting
- 14:28this in, you know, a position to be successful and we can't even
- 14:33pull out 10 laps, you know, keeping up in the front.
- 14:36So no, it's good to see y'all are back qualifying, but
- 14:40unfortunately we all know Ducati is the head of everybody right
- 14:45now. Yeah, Yeah, I would say that.
- 14:49I mean, I, you know, we were talking, I don't think we were
- 14:51talking about Fabio getting pole.
- 14:53We were looking at the European brands and stuff like that.
- 14:56So that that definitely was a surprise.
- 15:00How about yourself Reese, with your thoughts?
- 15:03I mean, it, it goes back to again to, you know, what Lewis
- 15:07even said. I mean, it's it's nice to see
- 15:10it. It's nice to see, you know, the
- 15:12boys in blue back up there. But at the same time, I mean, we
- 15:16can always you can always throw down that one hot flyer, that
- 15:19one flying lap. I mean, but to keep that same
- 15:22lap going pace after pace after pace after pace, it takes it
- 15:27takes a doing lane, you know, and they just haven't figured it
- 15:30out. We can't they can't get it down
- 15:32to a science yet. You know, they're still behind
- 15:34the 8 ball. I mean, you can actually, you
- 15:37can actually watch the front straightaway and you can see the
- 15:41pull from the Ducati. You know that the bike gets up,
- 15:45they Marquez gets it up and he's gone so.
- 15:50Nice. Nice, Bobby Shakes.
- 15:51What's going on? I see you need some money to be
- 15:53on this show. Yeah, the check must have
- 15:56played. I, I mean, I'm just keeping with
- 16:00the, just keeping with the consistency with your boy Jorge
- 16:04Martinez. So I, I, I took, I stole the
- 16:09shoe of a young woman like 10 years ago.
- 16:13Oh, careful, man. And I know that this is free
- 16:17ditty, but this screw right here is the same exact size as Jorge
- 16:26Martinez, the Princess. So.
- 16:29I would like to send this to Aprilia.
- 16:31OK. All right.
- 16:33Really, you might want to send that to Honda.
- 16:34That's where he's going. Can you fit in this?
- 16:41Nah, though, I'm sorry. Listen, he's no longer.
- 16:46He's no longer a previous problem.
- 16:48He's on this problem. Wait that.
- 16:53That happened. I thought that's that sound was
- 16:56that, you know, they had to come to an agreement or.
- 17:01They can they going to court? Yeah.
- 17:03They going to court. It's getting worse.
- 17:06Yeah. See.
- 17:08Yeah, it sounds like the, the big dog might step in and and
- 17:12say I, I and I don't know how true it is.
- 17:15The CEO, what's his name? Carmen.
- 17:18God, I can't remember his name now.
- 17:21He, he, it's, I saw something where he said that, you know,
- 17:25Martine has to figure this thing out or he might not be in GP at
- 17:27all. Right.
- 17:30Yeah, they had a donor and this can't be good.
- 17:33I mean, maybe maybe it's good for Liberty Media Group.
- 17:36I don't know, because a lot of people are talking about it.
- 17:38So but new owners can't be happy with negative publicity.
- 17:42But if it's if they got more eyes on it might be a good
- 17:45thing. But let's let's move on to we,
- 17:48we talked about qualifying. Bagnia was the fastest Ducati is
- 17:54is this a sign that he's coming around?
- 17:57No, he's he's a absolutely not absolutely not give it up.
- 18:03The man is listen you put it has finally come to terms that Jorge
- 18:11Martin and especially Pekka Vagnaya.
- 18:14Now you have somebody that's a top tier rider on the same
- 18:17quality bike. You just not as good as you
- 18:20thought you was. Simple.
- 18:22That's it, huh? That's it.
- 18:26You're not as good as you thought you were.
- 18:30He's not as good as he thinks it was.
- 18:34Looking at the time, man, I mean, it's a good time, you
- 18:37know, And he's in front of the brothers.
- 18:41It's a start. Reese, as he said, I'm not
- 18:46racing for 3rd or 4th and every time I turn around he's in 3rd
- 18:49or 4th. No, I mean that was a bad move
- 18:52of him. He probably shouldn't have said
- 18:53anything for that. But nobody's racing for 3rd or
- 18:554th, right? He's not saying anything any
- 18:56other writer is not saying. We just heard Smitty and myself
- 18:59saying none of us wants to be 3rd, 4th or anything below.
- 19:02If it's not first place, none of us are really happy, right?
- 19:05No. I mean no.
- 19:07We're racing for I know my. Lips, I know what I'm racing
- 19:10for, but I guarantee you if I'm on that back pace, on that on
- 19:13the back markers, I'm trying to race for 3rd or 4th, at least
- 19:16get up on the podium. But Dang, I mean like he starts
- 19:20strong and then disappears. Gotcha.
- 19:24Right. I'm trying to I'm trying to
- 19:27change the channel from Becco from becco.
- 19:31I'm trying but. We got to talk about this, man.
- 19:33I mean. 45 every week for the last 100 weeks.
- 19:39Yep, Heckles come up. This is his best season ever.
- 19:43This is the best he's been. He he he's he's subpar.
- 19:47I want to change the channel but it's not changing.
- 19:52No, it's not. You know it will be televised
- 19:55Shakes. It will be televised.
- 20:00Because further was his tank was shaped funny he couldn't ride.
- 20:03Remember that shit? It's still a problem for the
- 20:05spring. Then yeah, hold on.
- 20:07Then he had one good race. Then was the break his his break
- 20:11too small. His break rose too small.
- 20:13Right, but you know, in all fairness, in in all fairness, he
- 20:18he's not getting beat at the same amount of times he was in
- 20:20the beginning of the season. So he's getting quicker.
- 20:23I think he's getting. Beat every time.
- 20:24He ain't been a race yet, right I.
- 20:26Understand that, but there's a lot of other guys.
- 20:28So I mean, I'm not, he's not, it's not like.
- 20:31Hold on, hold on. You supposed to be the most
- 20:36caliber rider, right? Is he supposed to be a top
- 20:38caliber rider? Right?
- 20:40He is a top caliber and I, I think they all are as, as Mark
- 20:42Marquez said in the press conference, like he's so how are
- 20:45you guys are saying what I'm saying?
- 20:48OK. And I give him that.
- 20:49He's a good caliber rider. So if you're a great caliber
- 20:52rider and a two time champion, how are you getting beat by a
- 20:57subpar person, which is Alex Mark?
- 21:01And Bazecki. Right.
- 21:03I wouldn't, I mean Bazecki and and I mean Bazecki's out of the
- 21:06camp. So I mean, you know what I mean.
- 21:08I, I think Alex Marquez is only not an anomaly, but no one
- 21:12really saw that coming, right? So I, I, I get, I can get Alex
- 21:15Marquez, but obviously Marquez is a time champion.
- 21:17So to be getting a time champion is not unheard of, especially on
- 21:22the same machines but at the same time.
- 21:25When he's on the 24. All right, let's let's, let's
- 21:28lose Yamaha as an example. In Motor America, you're looking
- 21:31at the times every week, OK, So if your time's getting closer,
- 21:36isn't that progress as overall on the team that like, OK,
- 21:40they're getting closer. I mean, obviously you want to
- 21:42win, but at the same time Marquez is not beating them by 5
- 21:45seconds anymore. Listen close counting
- 21:48horseshoes, hand grenades, not racing.
- 21:51Yeah, yeah. Thank you.
- 21:53OK. Post on Madden Racing.
- 21:55All right. close to what? Well, close to 3rd.
- 21:59Close to what? No, what I'm saying is like
- 22:01it's. Still a position.
- 22:02It, it is still a position and they're working on making the
- 22:05bikes better every weekend and making the bike as best as
- 22:08possible for that rider, right. And and as we know, sometimes
- 22:12last year it took them might be 7 rounds to figure out the 24
- 22:16bike. But and my only point in this
- 22:20because I don't want to reliterate litigate all that.
- 22:22My only point is saying that like his times are getting
- 22:25closer. So and he's and he's he is, you
- 22:28know, on the grid, he's getting in front of him.
- 22:30So if this continues, I mean, I'm not saying he's going to win
- 22:34the championship, but he is getting close to to be more
- 22:38competitive at the front as far as to be able to fight for a win
- 22:41against, you know, a non crashing mark and a non crashing
- 22:45Alex right all. Right.
- 22:46Beat Alex straight up and then come back and talk to us.
- 22:49Oh, he was going to beat Alex straight up.
- 22:51If Alex didn't crash out, that was.
- 22:52That was like, like Alex was getting beaten.
- 22:54That was that was happening. OK.
- 22:56Because the one time he had a bad race, 5th place when he
- 23:00crashed out Alex, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:02I mean, you know, you know, yeah, that's all I'm just saying
- 23:06he was, I mean, yeah, Pekko finished fifth on on Saturday.
- 23:10I mean, it's you know what I mean?
- 23:11But he was going to get beat. Not Mark, but Pekko.
- 23:14I mean, what? But Alex was going to get
- 23:16beaten. But you know, let's talk about
- 23:18Bazecki, you know, 5th in in in the grid, more Badeli, 6 out the
- 23:23gear. These guys are all, you know,
- 23:26getting closer to the to the front of the grid.
- 23:28So let's talk about the Sprint race and and what are your
- 23:34thoughts on the Sprint race? Can I go?
- 23:36First status to Rex. I love your faith, you know
- 23:39that? Seriously, I love your faith in
- 23:43Petco. It's amazing, man.
- 23:46From the beginning of the show, Morbid Deli has been my dark
- 23:52horse. You could go back, watch the
- 23:55episode It's been My Dark Horse, that's Our course, has fallen
- 24:00off the track, sprained its ankle, and now we got to put it
- 24:03to sleep. I don't think Morbideli is even
- 24:09in contention anymore. He's had his chances earlier on
- 24:12the season. I get it, we're not a halfway
- 24:15break yet. There's still a lot of racing
- 24:17left to go. But Morbideli has not quantum
- 24:23leaped where I want him to be. And I'm going to say this and,
- 24:29and it's not a hot take because I I want to be consistent this
- 24:33season is for Marquez to lose because I think Alex, if Marquez
- 24:38loses it, I think Alex will get it.
- 24:40I disagree with Reese. I think Alex has been the best
- 24:44rider all season. He shakes, shakes, shakes.
- 24:47Not to. I, I mean to cut you off.
- 24:48Alex has a broken bone in his right hand.
- 24:51I believe so. If what is that?
- 24:54We don't know. He's coming back, yeah, but
- 24:56continue. But Martine had a broken, broken
- 24:59and he came back. I know he's out.
- 25:02And that's why he's broke now, yeah.
- 25:04Yeah, he came back and and and he broke something.
- 25:07So that's. What I'm just saying like at the
- 25:09moment. I understand that, but but we're
- 25:12a little physical therapy, little injection, we're back on
- 25:15it again. This is professional racing here
- 25:17guys. This is professional racing, but
- 25:19the next round that we're there coming into the dominant left
- 25:22side track and his left hand is hurting.
- 25:26So that's going to take a big effect.
- 25:28Yes, Alex is one of the top writers.
- 25:31I don't know where he came from. I mean, he's been out there
- 25:34training with his brother, so I can't say where the heck he
- 25:36showed up from and where he came from.
- 25:39So, but it's great to see him up there riding and then being in
- 25:42contention, though. I think he's going to win the
- 25:46championship or even have a remote chance if his hand wasn't
- 25:48even broken. No, this is this championship is
- 25:52Marquez's championship. I said it before Marquez even
- 25:55stepped his foot on a Ducati. I said if he sits foot on a
- 25:59factory bike, you are now racing for second and third.
- 26:03There is no first. It is him.
- 26:05He felt comfortable in it. He's smiling, he's laughing.
- 26:09That is the most dangerous man in the paddock right now.
- 26:13That is your most dangerous man. As far as Morbid Deli, Morbid
- 26:17Deli is like a Venialis. He's here today, gone tomorrow.
- 26:22Like I give there's no Morbidelli, there is no vanilla,
- 26:25there is no Acosta. The race right now and Martine
- 26:29is somewhere playing prima Donna, crying about I want this
- 26:33and I want that. So the race right now is between
- 26:37three people, which is Mark, Alex and Pekka.
- 26:42That's it. Pekka is going to finish in 3rd,
- 26:45Alex is going to finish in second and more, and Marquez is
- 26:48going to finish in first. That's where your order is going
- 26:51to finish out for the rest of the season, guarantee you.
- 26:56I agree unless Alex don't come back before I.
- 26:59See that? Happens.
- 27:02I mean, that's why we show up every round to as spectators to
- 27:05watch and they show up to race to prove people like Reese
- 27:08differently. They do.
- 27:11They show up to prove me differently, but that ain't
- 27:13going to happen. So with that said, we still got
- 27:19to talk about the race. Let's always talk about 2nd
- 27:23through 18th and 18th then, right?
- 27:27Exactly looks really. Good out there guys.
- 27:29I think he has a shot of of continuing.
- 27:32I'll still say like, you know, these guys are getting quicker.
- 27:36I think he had a he, he rode one of the best races.
- 27:38I think he was the first guy that really gave Mark a
- 27:41challenge as far as keeping Mark on his toes because everybody
- 27:46else Mark eventually pulled away from in previous rounds.
- 27:49You guys thoughts about Bez and and his weekend?
- 27:53But now he had a solid weekend. I mean whether he gave Mark his
- 27:56all and he stuck with him for the entire shit the entire race.
- 28:01He was there, he was the entire race.
- 28:03He's a half second behind so it's just impressive.
- 28:06So I mean credit, but like you said, he'll be back this weekend
- 28:11and he'll be in six next week. You know, he's just hit or miss.
- 28:18Tell you what, but even though I give Petco a hard time because
- 28:22you were ex, Peko is a consistent 3rd place guy.
- 28:27Yeah, and that's, but that's. I will give you that.
- 28:29I mean, you know, that's, that's a good thing.
- 28:31I mean, listen, if there's, if there's, listen, I'll say this,
- 28:34right. And we were talking about this
- 28:35early on. I, I struggled in the back of
- 28:38the grid for four years and it was no fun When I'm, when I'm,
- 28:41when I'm like the last 21 to, to the last few years fighting for
- 28:453rd, 4th or 1st or whatever you think I'm not.
- 28:48If I got a fourth place, I'm disappointed and, and there's
- 28:51guys that's and, and women behind.
- 28:53No, I'm not going to be, I'm going to be disappointed.
- 28:55I didn't get the 1st place, but you know, you know, back now
- 28:59you're in 3rd place. So any of these guys in in in
- 29:02521, it's the last way better than six through 18.
- 29:06It depends. If you're a two time champ, it's
- 29:09not fun. It's it's never fun for anyone
- 29:12because everybody wants to win. But at the same time, you know
- 29:15what I'm saying? Like like anything else, you
- 29:18know, Marquez is, is one of the few guys to have what, 5-6
- 29:23titles in a row? You know, Rossi, most people are
- 29:26getting one or two or maybe none at all.
- 29:29So at the end of the day, like let let let let you know, let's
- 29:32be real, like you know, the, the most riders are not winning a
- 29:35championship much, just a lot of races in Moto GP.
- 29:38So I mean. OK, Reese question.
- 29:42So based on the tack Yamaha, right for the past, I don't
- 29:45know, let's say 3-4 years, Jake Gonyea, he ran motor American.
- 29:50That was his series, right? But right now he's, I mean, no,
- 29:55no, no shade on Jake at all, but he's a third place writer right
- 29:59now. You think Jake likes that shit?
- 30:02No. I agree with that.
- 30:03I'm saying no, no writer likes it.
- 30:05But at the same time, when you compare all the writers, no.
- 30:08But at the same time, no guys would.
- 30:10No one, no one wants to be in that place.
- 30:12They just accept your faith. You know what, Maverick would
- 30:15love that shit. No, he wouldn't.
- 30:16No right. Again, Mark Marquez said it.
- 30:18You got to respect these other writers.
- 30:20Everyone wants to win. Everybody's showing up to win.
- 30:22Let's let let's not pretend like I'm I don't want to throw shade
- 30:25on the NBA or anything like that, who just want to collect
- 30:28the paycheck, but these guys want to win.
- 30:30And let's not let's let I get Marquez.
- 30:32This is running out front and all that, But let's not like I
- 30:34play basketball, pick up. I, I if I'm throwing dots at my
- 30:37daughter, I want to win. I don't even care if it's if
- 30:39it's a foot race, I want to win. It's like, I mean, if you're a
- 30:42competitive person, there's not a chance that you want to sit
- 30:44here and say you want to lose. Look, I mean, I get it that he
- 30:47wants to win, but it's like we all show up to win.
- 30:50There's nobody that doesn't show up to win.
- 30:52But at the end of the day, is he really going to win?
- 30:57That's a whole different story, but we're showing up to be
- 30:59competitive and that's what I'm just saying.
- 31:01He's not showing up not to be competitive.
- 31:03He's not showing up saying let me just not do my best and
- 31:06finish third today. Well, no, I'm not.
- 31:11I mean, the best thing for him to do in Pecker's case, if you
- 31:15know you're not competitive, get the maximum points you can.
- 31:18And that's what he's trying to do, gain the maximum points.
- 31:21Because at the end of the day, if the if it comes down to
- 31:24Marquez crashing or something happens, he gets hurt, you're
- 31:27right there to take over the points lead if you can, if
- 31:30something happens with that, you know, but then it comes down to,
- 31:35hey, you have the same bike as Marquez, OK?
- 31:40There's nothing really different compared to just a little bit of
- 31:43setup, the way you ride compared to way he rides.
- 31:46And every time I hear, I can keep saying I have no front end
- 31:49feel. I have no front end feel.
- 31:51It's like how much of that is true and how much is it not
- 31:55because you were competitive in the in the beginning of the race
- 31:59and then you disappeared. Are you setting your bike up to
- 32:03have feel in the beginning or are you setting your bike up to
- 32:07have the feel at the end when the tires drop off?
- 32:11And that's where it comes down to Marquez being the smartest
- 32:13rider because it didn't, you know, it comes down to any real
- 32:18champion or you want to call it a goat or somebody.
- 32:21That's as we call it back in the day, an alien.
- 32:24Can I, if the bike drops off, can I ride around that problem?
- 32:28He can't. He cannot ride around any
- 32:30problem he has. It's like another, as I used to
- 32:33say back in the day, another Lorenzo.
- 32:35The bike has to be 100% perfect throughout the race for me to
- 32:40ride it. It's not.
- 32:41It's not. The tires are going to drop and
- 32:44you have to be able to ride it. And it's not just Lorenzo, it's
- 32:47it's Acosta, it's Vinyalis, it's Bazeki, it was Alicia Spa girl.
- 32:51It's a lot of riders that can't ride around their bikes when
- 32:54it's giving them problems. They can't.
- 32:56And we're seeing that now. So that's, that's not an
- 32:59anomaly. But you know, I mean, it's
- 33:01unfortunate. I mean that that Pekko's getting
- 33:03the brunt of the, the, the you know, he's he, he, he's getting
- 33:07negativity for finishing third and 4th and guys finishing 10th,
- 33:1011th and 12th just not being talked about and full time.
- 33:15Champion, that's why. It's not enough of a reason.
- 33:18And he's all great. Reason, man.
- 33:20Yeah, but Mayor Mayor's a champion.
- 33:22So is Quatarara. Like 5 years ago man and and
- 33:27remembers that shit. Man, you know what I mean?
- 33:29And so I don't know. I mean, you know.
- 33:31It's not hold on if I do his bikers subpar, that's why.
- 33:36We just talked about riding around stuff, right?
- 33:38So that's what I'm saying, like we're making.
- 33:42You can't run around a bad engine.
- 33:44You know all all I'm just saying is, you know, the dude's getting
- 33:49the brunt of the the negative press and there's a lot of other
- 33:51riders. But let's move on and talk about
- 33:53something besides that because there's a lot else that
- 33:55happening. But I've been trying to move on,
- 33:58but the Smitty keeps bringing it back here.
- 34:01So. So if you got a list of things
- 34:05you want to talk about Smitty, let's go but talk about it.
- 34:09I'm a hard Lube. I want to.
- 34:16I want to go back. Listen, no, for real.
- 34:17But you can't disrespect me. I mean, I look, it is what it
- 34:20is. He won the championship, so did
- 34:22Katarara. I mean, we might not like it.
- 34:24I mean, OKC just won the championship.
- 34:28Who? Who watched that game?
- 34:30Come on. No, but but they were the best
- 34:32team all year. I'll stop it now.
- 34:34All right, let's go. Now they were they were they
- 34:39have the best record and and the MVP.
- 34:41So come on, they. Had the best record, they had
- 34:44the MVP and they had the best point margin.
- 34:47I mean points for against all your long.
- 34:50You can't score the best. You watch the playoffs?
- 34:54Yeah, all of them. All the games you watched not.
- 34:56Almost OK. I watched them all and that's
- 34:59false. What's?
- 35:01False. They weren't the best team.
- 35:04They're not the best team. They're not.
- 35:09You got a face, yeah, but you got a person that they want to
- 35:13be the face of the NBA all. Right, Shakes, What are your
- 35:18thoughts about the Sprint race and TJ man, I mean.
- 35:26I agree with Smitty. I mean, it's TJ say something
- 35:30because because we've been. I haven't heard you.
- 35:33I know. You just said one.
- 35:36What do you do? I've been trying, you know, I've
- 35:38been, you know, you know, we've been skipping, skipping topics.
- 35:41You know, I wanted to say something about Petco a while
- 35:43ago, but we don't we know we're trying to get off of that.
- 35:46I want to say something, I want to say something about Bezaki as
- 35:49well. So T.
- 35:51JTJI gave you my minutes, like at a Senate hearing, I gave you
- 35:56my minutes and the first word you brought up was Petco.
- 36:00Hey, man. Retake no no, you got to.
- 36:06No, you got to. I want to hear it.
- 36:07I got to hear it. All I want to say is the I agree
- 36:10with Reese when he's complaining about his running field, but
- 36:13like every rider deals with an issue during the race, they they
- 36:17hit a corner on and deal with some type of issue.
- 36:20I think it's all excuses. I think he just can't handle the
- 36:23pressure. There's too much pressure for
- 36:25him right now and Mark is just too intimidating, so all the
- 36:29pressure is on him. There's the only excuse to come
- 36:31up with is probably I had. I can't have front field no.
- 36:34Pressure, man. You know, Rossi's his, his, his
- 36:37mentor. There's no pressure.
- 36:39Hey, man, I, I you can. He's not, he's not the same.
- 36:43Yeah, he's improving in points from last year, but you got to
- 36:47keep up with whoever is doing the best.
- 36:49And he's down 100 points. So I mean, yeah, I mean, I feel
- 36:53like he's not sending it like he used to.
- 36:56He probably just doesn't want to crash playing the more the
- 36:58safety route, hoping that something would happen, like
- 37:02instead of Mark or Allen's get into an accident, that he will
- 37:06be safe enough to take over the points.
- 37:09But yeah, I mean, I'm not mad at him.
- 37:11I mean, it's a lot of pressure, but I already think it's over.
- 37:14So it doesn't matter what he does at this point, really, I
- 37:17think he just needs to send it and and no excuses because look
- 37:20at Fabio, look at look at Brad, Brad Bender, although and Jack
- 37:25Miller. They start strong and then drop
- 37:27off, fade away. So like, right, you know, it's
- 37:29more of a. He's third in the championship
- 37:31and they're all below him. No, I understand that.
- 37:34I'm just saying it's like the effort in the beginning of the
- 37:37race opposed to the fight to the end.
- 37:40I mean like he's on a factory fight, so I can't be that bad
- 37:44with the setup, you know? I think we have to be
- 37:50consistent. We can, hey, listen, you have to
- 37:54ride around the issue. This is a no excuse show.
- 37:59You show up, you send it, you get it done.
- 38:02You're not showing it up if you're not, if you don't, if
- 38:04you, if you're showing up and not getting it done.
- 38:07I don't care if, if, if, if, if every valve in that bike is
- 38:11blown, you get off that bike and you run it down the track.
- 38:15No excuses. We are all professionals here.
- 38:18Yeah, yeah. And and and we have to be
- 38:21consistent. You're either going to ride the
- 38:23damn thing or let me ride it. I'm looking for a part time job.
- 38:27But he had two DNFS in 10 rounds.
- 38:29I mean, I think, I think that's, you know, that's sensible.
- 38:33I mean, I think that, you know, the team is happy that he's not,
- 38:35He's not, you know, mere putting the bike back every weekend, you
- 38:40know what I'm saying? And still in 3rd place in the
- 38:42championship. I mean, we were saying like, you
- 38:46know, when he won the championship or when he lost the
- 38:49Martine, he DNF like almost 10 times, something like that.
- 38:53It's like it's like, hey, if you slim that down, you could
- 38:56probably do better. And you can see he's trying
- 38:58that, but it's not working. I don't know what's going on.
- 39:00He needs to. He needs to go back to seven.
- 39:04At this point, it's kind of too late.
- 39:06Let's talk about Bez as well because you know the season,
- 39:10they know it's still 12 rounds left.
- 39:12I'm happy about that. You know, like, obviously he's
- 39:16had bad luck a lot and I think this is probably one of his best
- 39:20rounds. If you look at practice
- 39:23qualifying, he was top five all the way through and he actually
- 39:27was on the podium for the Sprint and GP.
- 39:30So it's pretty impressive, especially, you know, what a
- 39:32Prairie has been doing going through.
- 39:36Yeah, it's it's pretty good to see that that he had a really
- 39:39good weekend. That really does, I'm sure
- 39:41builds a lot of confidence going forward.
- 39:44So hopefully you can finish strong at saturating.
- 39:48I think that's before they go on their summer break, but that'll
- 39:52be really good to see if Curry can pull some off.
- 39:54I'm happy for fans right now. Yeah, I mean, yeah, nice.
- 39:57You you mentioned pressure. Let me ask Shakes, I mean, is
- 40:00that a lot of pressure for Bazecki?
- 40:02I mean, he was expecting Martine to be the number one rider and
- 40:05and to learn from him. And now he seems to be the
- 40:08number one rider and you know, the whole team, I mean the whole
- 40:12half of Martine side of the team, right.
- 40:14They got the the test rider. So I I can't believe their their
- 40:17energies as high. So you know, these two, these
- 40:20two podiums this weekend and the race win.
- 40:23A few rounds ago has to be good for the team.
- 40:25What are your thoughts, Shakes? He's playing with house money,
- 40:29right? He knows he's not the number one
- 40:31guy. He knows that the number one guy
- 40:35is a Cinderella. Everybody knows he has no
- 40:39expectations. Like, who would have thought
- 40:42that he would have been the guy that's going to carry the
- 40:44Aprilia flag? No one thought that.
- 40:46So there's absolutely no pressure.
- 40:48Hey, go out there, do your race, prove to Martine that this
- 40:52bike's a winner, which he's doing.
- 40:54And it's he's riding with no pressure.
- 40:57He only he, he, he has nothing to lose and he has nothing to
- 41:01gain. All he's got to be be himself
- 41:04and be consistent. And the chips are going to fall
- 41:06where they're going to fall because the person that's under
- 41:10pressure is Martine. He's just playing with house
- 41:16money. Playing with house money.
- 41:18He's, he's the only guy on the grid that I, that I would
- 41:24exchange places with. There's no expectation.
- 41:27Go out there, ride the bike, bro.
- 41:29Bring it back in one piece. You're good.
- 41:32And all of all of the pressure and all of the talking and all
- 41:40of the gossip and all of the rules and, and, and, and, and,
- 41:44and everything else that's going on is in the locker room down,
- 41:49down the hallway. It's not in my locker room.
- 41:52So what pressure do I really have?
- 41:54All the talk, all the gossip is happening down the hallway in
- 41:59that locker room where I'm at. It's Harmony.
- 42:02We're playing with health money. Shakes, I got to say I got the
- 42:06foot big man, because the things in my team, we are a size 10 or
- 42:119. Fisheye lens, it's the fisheye
- 42:17lens make you look that big that's.
- 42:19Why doesn't look like A7 Cinderella shoe was the slipper
- 42:23was a small man. What are your thoughts, Reese on
- 42:26on what Bazecki's doing? And you know what?
- 42:29What do you what do you think the team culture is like at
- 42:31Aprilia right now, especially with them getting on the podium
- 42:34these last few rounds? I mean, I agree with shakes.
- 42:37I mean, you know, he has zero pressure on him.
- 42:39He can just ride at free will. But it also shows with the bike
- 42:43is, you know, the potential that the bike has and that the bike
- 42:46can actually do. So that shows, you know, that
- 42:50Hohe Martin, you know, pretty much look like an idiot right
- 42:53now because he didn't even get the bike a chance.
- 42:55You know, he just crashed twice and then saying the bike is not
- 43:00worthy. And like, how is, you know,
- 43:02Bazecki, that was supposed to be the number 2 rider is now the
- 43:06number one rider and putting this thing on a podium and, you
- 43:09know, kept up with, you know, the eight time champion.
- 43:13You know, that was right there. I mean, yeah, we're going into
- 43:17another, you know, we're going into saturating, which is a a
- 43:19stop and go track. You know, where is the Aprilia,
- 43:23the better bike for, you know, more of the sweeping corners and
- 43:27certain things. So we'll see where it goes.
- 43:30But it, like I said, it shows that this guy, that he is, has a
- 43:35lot of potential and it showed that the bike has a lot of
- 43:37potential. So I'm actually proud of Bazecki
- 43:39and what he's doing. And he's not letting all the
- 43:42media and all the hoopla that's on the other side of the garage
- 43:45affect his writing style. He's actually stepped up.
- 43:49You know, the same thing goes in any sport and basketball, which
- 43:52I always had next man up. And he's actually taking that to
- 43:56heat and like, hey, I'm going to run with it, It's my time.
- 44:01Pretty impressive. Let's go with you Smitty.
- 44:03What are your thoughts on what VR46 Academy is doing and the
- 44:08Grassini team is doing? And this goes for all the other
- 44:11guys as well. What do you think is going to be
- 44:13the the top team at the end of the season?
- 44:15Because I mean, you know, Mobodeli and, and did you know
- 44:20Antonio's pretty competitive. Well, Racini, you know, this
- 44:26past weekend in the main race was was a bad weekend because
- 44:29both riders crashed out, right? So but I kind of I kind of want
- 44:36to touch on my team like a little bit, you know, back in to
- 44:40say middle school, let's say like you and your best friend,
- 44:43you're going to do the homework, but then you hold the teacher,
- 44:46you know, forgot to ask for it. But then one kid teacher left
- 44:49homework. Right now that's Bez.
- 44:51Bez is making him look bad, man. You know, by doing the bike that
- 44:54well that it shouldn't be doing that well.
- 44:57But I don't know, I think Martine Summer said it before,
- 45:00he's superstitious. He sat on the bike twice and
- 45:04both times crash. He's probably not scared, but
- 45:07he's like, yeah, this bike ain't biking for me.
- 45:09We don't gel. Me and the bike don't don't gel
- 45:11well. And I think that's why he wants
- 45:13to leave prop because to be honest, it makes zero sense why.
- 45:17So I don't know, man. But it turns out the VR46 guys,
- 45:21I mean, I don't know. We'll see how the air pans out.
- 45:26I got you. Got you.
- 45:27Yeah. I don't know.
- 45:28I mean superstition, you know, falls and motorcycle racing and
- 45:32car racing and some parts of life's all around the world.
- 45:35So. But the contract is a contract
- 45:38and on the courts don't deal with superstition when it comes
- 45:41to that. So, you know, and you know,
- 45:46there's some people saying Alicia's, you know, maybe too
- 45:49close to him and, and giving him the wrong information or
- 45:51whatever the case may be, who not wrong information, but just,
- 45:54you know, trying to bring them over to Honda or whatever the
- 45:56case may be. But you know, your, your word is
- 45:59born, as they say. And you know, it's, it's still a
- 46:03good way to live in my eyes. What are your?
- 46:05Son. Yeah.
- 46:06What are your thoughts Shakes on VR46 Academy or Grassini?
- 46:12VR46 Academy. Race team, I should say.
- 46:19VR6 race team Academy, huh? I could.
- 46:24All I could do is laugh. Do tell.
- 46:28Where do I start? When, When you're a little boy
- 46:32in Brisbane, Birmingham. Which?
- 46:35Which? Which one?
- 46:36Bristol. Bristol.
- 46:37It's one of those bees. Bristol, TN.
- 46:41England. You know, I, I I'm here.
- 46:46I'm waiting. I I, I'm, I'm, I'm the fat
- 46:49sister waiting for the Prince to come with the shoe all season
- 46:54long and even talks of after this season VR6 Academy or race
- 47:01team or whatever the hell they call themselves is supposed to
- 47:04be the Marquez killer, no? OK, I see what you're saying.
- 47:09I could. I'm picking up what you're
- 47:10putting down. They they can't even catch Alex,
- 47:18the, the, the David, the David that's supposed to come and slay
- 47:22Goliath, the head by the, the you know, Yama, Mr. Yamaha Lube
- 47:27himself can't do nothing. Now there's now there's talks
- 47:36that are going to find another writer from another team to
- 47:39bring him in, because that's the Marques Slayer VR VIX Academy.
- 47:47Forget about it. OK.
- 47:49They don't scare me. I'm not scared of them.
- 47:52This is what VR6 needs to do. They need to.
- 47:56They need to catch Alex and then once they catch Alex, then we'll
- 48:00let you in the room to play with Marquez.
- 48:03OK. Sorry, Yamaha Lube.
- 48:06I mean, you know, all right, I've already stated it for the
- 48:09record, so I will continue, TJ. I mean, they are 46.
- 48:19They, they, they're doing pretty well in my eyes.
- 48:22You know, I feel like if Alex didn't get off to the start that
- 48:27he did, they'll probably be more competitive as far as like, you
- 48:32know, team, team points, you know, But to be in 3rd place
- 48:37right now, I mean, it's really not bad, you know, to this state
- 48:42that they fall behind Ducatis, you know, so they got to the
- 48:45factory Ducati and then Garcini. So the separation between
- 48:49Garcinia and VR46 is is lonely. Is is about 50.
- 48:58Points almost, so still obtainable.
- 49:01Like Smitty said, Garcini did have two DNFS, so that hurt them
- 49:06a little bit, but I think that was going to spread.
- 49:09But you know, as long as Rossi's around, especially at the races,
- 49:14I'm sure that he can pull some strings.
- 49:16I think VR46 can possibly pass the scene maybe, but we'll see.
- 49:21Yeah. All right, go ahead.
- 49:23I. Want to ask a question when we
- 49:25talk about bikes VR46 and Marquez.
- 49:29I know Marquez got the factory seat, but when we talk about
- 49:32bikes, aren't those bikes comparable?
- 49:35No. The only one that's comparable
- 49:37from VR46 is Fabio. He had the, that's the secondary
- 49:42bike. The Yeah, he's the only one with
- 49:46the 25. So.
- 49:49So what's going on? Fabio's doing all right, I mean,
- 49:55I think. They're supposed to be the
- 49:59Marquez killer. I don't want to hear.
- 50:00I wouldn't. I wouldn't.
- 50:01I wouldn't go that far. That's what they thought the 46
- 50:08was, right? No, let's.
- 50:13Let's let's Rossi built the the Academy to have more Italians in
- 50:19Moto GP because the Spanish were taking over, not just Marquez.
- 50:23It's like everybody was was Spanish and Moto GP for a little
- 50:26bit besides Ross and Simicelli in in divisioso, but it was
- 50:31mostly Spanish and and so that's kind of how the Academy came
- 50:34about. And so I wouldn't say it's the
- 50:35Marquez killer per SE, but I could see how you know, this
- 50:38full guys VR46 Academy that's in Moto GP and Marquez is a top
- 50:43guy. So I can see where you're coming
- 50:44from with that. But I don't think that was it
- 50:46was designed like that. But it wouldn't hurt if they did
- 50:48beat them, no? No, no, no, no.
- 50:51You can't throw shade like that. What do you want me to say?
- 51:02Throw shade, he slips, slips it in at the last minute.
- 51:06And and and I want to know from you because I know you're a
- 51:08Yamaha guy. You're a Yamaha guy.
- 51:09I mean, and you and you know the, the rivalry between those
- 51:15two. Can we on?
- 51:17Can we be real and just say that 46 is the Marquez killer and
- 51:22it's not? So now all those that are
- 51:26listening to the show, I just want to give you a little
- 51:28background on Rex. He's a Marquez hater, so just
- 51:32want to get that out there. Not true.
- 51:35Is it or is it not a 46 killer Reese?
- 51:40Is it not a Marquez killer? I mean, you said it best though.
- 51:4646, not anyone else. 46 himself can go do it, not anyone else.
- 51:55You know, Marquez is the last person that is out there that is
- 52:01considered an alien. He is the last of the dying
- 52:05breed. There is no one on that grid
- 52:09that is smarter and can beat Marquez.
- 52:12But Marquez, there's no one. So to say 46 is a killer.
- 52:22Yeah, Rossi was out there and then we got another plant.
- 52:25If Rossi's in his prime at A at a young age and whatever, yeah,
- 52:29maybe we can have another chance.
- 52:31But at this day and age and where we sit at the beat,
- 52:35Marquez, now, the only person that's going to beat him is
- 52:37Marquez crashes or dies out. That's it all.
- 52:43Right, there you go. So let's talk about Honda and
- 52:48KTM this weekend. Seemed like the Hondas.
- 52:51They struggled a little bit more than we thought they would this
- 52:54weekend. KTM.
- 52:57Maybe they put the KTM stickers on Honda bike because those KTMS
- 53:01look really fast this weekend. But your thoughts, TJ on on
- 53:06what? You know, they had three KTMS in
- 53:09the top ten in, in, in, in, on the grid, right?
- 53:13Yeah. I mean, even in the Sprint, I
- 53:16think they had close to having all four.
- 53:21Wait, 2, they have all four. But yeah, to have three KTMS in
- 53:25top three, I mean, for what they've been going through, as
- 53:28we've been saying, it's good to see.
- 53:30But you know, I don't see like the true consistency, you know,
- 53:34that it's kind of all over the place.
- 53:35One day is Maverick, one day is Pedro.
- 53:38I've already heard it much from Brad Binding or in a Vaseline
- 53:42until like the fight that he had in the GP for like 1 of the last
- 53:49like 10th place or something like that.
- 53:52I think they could be doing better.
- 53:53I mean, I don't know what's what's why they're so low in in
- 53:58constructive, but it it is always good to finish top ten,
- 54:03especially all your all your manufacturers.
- 54:06I mean all your, all your teams, teammates.
- 54:10No, I misspoke. It was it was in the Sprint.
- 54:12They were in the top 10. Yeah.
- 54:14I mean, I from what I understand, and I oppose this to
- 54:17Smitty, KTM went with Vialis setup on Acosta's bike and
- 54:23Acosta seems to be doing better. So I kind of it seems like why
- 54:27Acosta and and Vialis is kind of around the same pace.
- 54:32What are your thoughts Smitty on where Honda is and and and KTM?
- 54:37You know, Honda, they started off kind of bad, they warmed up
- 54:40a little bit and they're starting to fall back again.
- 54:43So it's not much, it's not much to say about Honda.
- 54:45But As for KTM just having a what?
- 54:49Acosta in fourth, you know, America in 5th, that's not bad
- 54:54at all actually. And but it's Acosta, you know,
- 54:58since he's been in Immortal 2, I've been a fan of his and
- 55:01hoping to see the guy do well next year, you know, so get up
- 55:04on the podium and win a race here and there, but it's little
- 55:07progress from what I expect from him.
- 55:09So just want to see the the upward progress and hope it
- 55:12keeps keeps going. And Maverick, he's due to get
- 55:16one win sometime this year. You know, he has to be showing
- 55:20the pace and he's getting better each race and it's being more
- 55:23consistent now. Also before before he put in one
- 55:25good lap, OK to fall behind, but he's putting, you know, a very
- 55:30good effort to be in 5th place. So.
- 55:33Got you, got you, He's doing. So.
- 55:35Nice. And with your thoughts, Reese on
- 55:37KTM and Honda. But you know, we thought that as
- 55:41Smitty just mentioned Acosta, we thought Acosta was going to be
- 55:44an alien because he was sort of an alien in Moto 3 and Moto 2
- 55:48and even the first year in first half of the first year in Moto
- 55:51GP. And then, you know, he got, he
- 55:55got struck with KT Ms. issues, I guess.
- 55:57How? About, yeah.
- 56:00I mean, what they showing this weekend, I mean, it was great.
- 56:03I mean, they did show some progress and then again, and you
- 56:06know, it, it, it sound like a bad way to say it.
- 56:10But if you actually look at a lot of the the KTMS, when they
- 56:15did the progress and they were in the top 10 or Vanyala's up
- 56:19there in the top 10, all the tracks were more of a flowing
- 56:23track. So it's when they come to the
- 56:26stop and go tracks, that's where they seem to struggle at.
- 56:30So we'll see how they compare in the satching to see if they're
- 56:33in the top 10 or in the top five like they were this past coming
- 56:36the past round. And that the tracks do have a
- 56:40lot of play in a lot of things because this bike may work one
- 56:44way better than this and it's so it can be a track way.
- 56:49So I mean, I would like to see them more consistently up there
- 56:53in the top five and we'll see when it comes to saturating.
- 56:57And I I do got to disagree with Smitty over there.
- 57:01I highly doubt that Devin Yala's kid is going to win a race.
- 57:08I I think the day he, the day he wins the race, I win the Lotto.
- 57:13Now, Grant, listen, I ain't saying it's going to be that
- 57:15he's going to beat Marquez, but let's say Marquez crashes, It's
- 57:19a rain race, he's due one and and only the reason why I say
- 57:23that he's won on every bike he's been on so far at least once or
- 57:27twice. Get it?
- 57:28But then you still got to beat the But then you still got to
- 57:32beat the other rain specialist, which is Azarko, a Miller.
- 57:35You know, all the other guys that's out there.
- 57:38And Miller's a hell of a rain race.
- 57:40And so was Zarko. Zarko loved the ring.
- 57:42Look, I'm just saying for him, all the stars need to align, and
- 57:46they may align because they have.
- 57:48All the stars that you need. You need every star to align for
- 57:51him to win the race. You need every plane, every star
- 57:55in the line. He was closer.
- 57:58I forget what Tracy was, but he had that tire pressure issue,
- 58:01right? I don't remember what place he
- 58:03came in, but he was up there. But you know, I feel like, I
- 58:08feel like that is probably a goal of his to at least win AGP
- 58:12race every year, especially he has won on most of all the
- 58:17manufacturers he's been on. So I feel like that is his goal.
- 58:20He's not far fetched for what he's saying that, but I don't
- 58:23know if it'll happen. I mean, I guarantee he wants to
- 58:27win because he wants to prove that issue that he had over in
- 58:30Yamaha and he's still a writer. But just seeing him win, I, I,
- 58:37I, I doubt it. So with TJ.
- 58:41You don't think he's proved that he's not the same rider?
- 58:44I mean, between the prior year and what he's been able to do at
- 58:46KTM this year and, and being one of the top KTM guys for the
- 58:52first, you know, 8 races at least.
- 58:55I'm not saying he's not a good caliber rider.
- 58:57He's a good caliber rider, but the problem is he's not a
- 59:01consistent good caliber rider. One day he's here, one day he's
- 59:05gone and next day he's back and he's here.
- 59:07It's like he's to wish you a he's like you'll get hopes up
- 59:11and he just crushed you. It's.
- 59:12All about the feelings man. Got to feel good on that bike.
- 59:15Yeah, I got a feeling he going to he's not going to win.
- 59:20That's my feeling. Oh.
- 59:23Man shakes. What are your thoughts, man?
- 59:26You know, I know you, I know you didn't buy any socks in Paytm.
- 59:30I think you told Lewis Hamilton to and that saved them or
- 59:32something. Safe Paytm or something like
- 59:34that. First I'd like to start off by
- 59:37saying only Yamaha guy will say this guy will win if we get a
- 59:42rain or somebody crashes out. And that's what that's the only
- 59:47way Honda has won the season. KTMKTM has had the power all
- 59:53season. KTM has had a very good bike.
- 59:57I think KTM is the second bike on the grid.
- 1:00:00No disrespect to Yamaha. I think KTM has shown that they
- 1:00:05could win. I know the beginning of the
- 1:00:07season, maybe the rumor, the rumors that were going on, maybe
- 1:00:10that affect the rider, but it shouldn't because like we said,
- 1:00:14this is a no non excuse podcast. You're paid a lot of money,
- 1:00:18you're paid to win, but they've had the power.
- 1:00:24I I still don't count them out. I like the bike they seem to be
- 1:00:30gaining. How many?
- 1:00:33I mean how many bikes you got on the grid though?
- 1:00:346 right? 4. 4.
- 1:00:37Yeah, that, that's that's, that's too much.
- 1:00:41But I I Kate Timms had the power all season and so.
- 1:00:47What about? What about a brilliant?
- 1:00:49What about a brilliant? April is at the that is Aprilia
- 1:00:54and KTM. That's a good question and and
- 1:00:57obviously the winnings proved that a Prius had more power than
- 1:01:01KTM, but I just have faith in that KTM bike for some reason.
- 1:01:08There's one thing I didn't hear you say, though.
- 1:01:10Go ahead. You can have all the power, but
- 1:01:13can you put it down to the ground?
- 1:01:16That is true. He stumped me.
- 1:01:22Can you put it down to the ground?
- 1:01:23He stumped me. He stumped me.
- 1:01:30That's where they're having issues.
- 1:01:32Yeah, that, yeah, that's, I still believe in K Tim.
- 1:01:38I still believe in K Tim. I, I really don't have any faith
- 1:01:41in Yamaha this season. I don't have any faith in in
- 1:01:46Honda. I think Honda is either a crash
- 1:01:48out or or a typhoon and they'll win, which probably makes sense
- 1:01:56because if you understand our the degenerate painter with the
- 1:02:01tidal wave in Japan, that great painting that we've all seen
- 1:02:06that represents Honda, the only way they can win is when there's
- 1:02:08a tidal wave. But you guys know what painting
- 1:02:11I'm talking about. You've seen it a million times.
- 1:02:13I don't know reason. Mark, Mark Mark was the tidal
- 1:02:16wave when they were winning. Yeah, it's just, it's just a
- 1:02:19tidal wave. The only way they can win the
- 1:02:21tidal wave. I have faith in the QTMI.
- 1:02:25Don't know why. As a dark horse, I just have
- 1:02:27faith in it. I think obviously it clearly has
- 1:02:31had the power because they've won that podium a lot.
- 1:02:38I don't know, I may have to. I don't know.
- 1:02:40Reese kind of fucked me up on that one.
- 1:02:42Sleeping. I'm trying to talk out of it and
- 1:02:46I've been talking for 5 minutes and I said absolutely nothing.
- 1:02:55Let's just say it's a close call between KTM and Aprilia.
- 1:03:00KTM overall has been more consistent the whole season, but
- 1:03:04as far as top of it, closer to 1st than Aprilia, but Aprilia
- 1:03:08had two great rounds. I mean, can we honestly say then
- 1:03:13that the second best bike on the greatest Aprilia, would that be
- 1:03:16it? Can we honestly say that the
- 1:03:18second best bike on the greatest Aprilia?
- 1:03:21Can we say? That it's one through 6 the best
- 1:03:23bikes on the greater Ducati. Well, there's six parties
- 1:03:28exactly. And I, I, and I've been a Ducati
- 1:03:31guy. I know it should have been one
- 1:03:32through 6. All three.
- 1:03:36So the 7th best bike on the grid is in Aprilia.
- 1:03:41Best bike, right. The 7th best bike you got to
- 1:03:44give to Aprilia? No.
- 1:03:45Yes. Come on.
- 1:03:47I'll give it to KTM because of what a costume Vinales is doing
- 1:03:50and Bazecki's by himself. And if I, if I agree or didn't
- 1:03:53get hurt, I would give it to I would give it to Aprilia.
- 1:03:57But I think I I agree with you at the beginning of the season
- 1:04:00and what Bazecki's doing now would have put them up higher on
- 1:04:03the on the food chain if he didn't crash out.
- 1:04:09I agree with that. I think KTM also has more
- 1:04:11experienced rabbits, so I think they should be doing a little
- 1:04:16better. But you know, you know, being
- 1:04:18down one man or a Martine, that would help a period much more.
- 1:04:24But I think the way they're fighting is pretty impressive
- 1:04:29opposed to what KTM is doing over and off.
- 1:04:32But I feel like like Shake saying that KTMI feel like has a
- 1:04:37lot of potential. That's what's up, That's what's
- 1:04:40up. Before we get out of here, I saw
- 1:04:43a thing on, I forget the, the principle of, of Honda saying if
- 1:04:49Martine is available, you know, they'll, they, they would look
- 1:04:53at him or, or or be interested or something like that.
- 1:04:56Do you think that Honda should at least wait until they figure
- 1:05:01out what's going to happen with with Martine before they start
- 1:05:04talking about things? Because they do have 4 writers
- 1:05:07that they're paying and has to show up every day for work.
- 1:05:10What are your thoughts on that chit Honda just kind of stay out
- 1:05:12of it until they know that he's actually available.
- 1:05:15I. Mean now you you could talk
- 1:05:18about the same basketball we can't talk about a player like
- 1:05:21it's tampering you could talk about.
- 1:05:23It any big deal Daniella's left for Prelia because they didn't
- 1:05:26talk to him about this before they signed Martine.
- 1:05:29True. So there's four riders, I mean,
- 1:05:35and you know, there's somebody sitting here.
- 1:05:37I mean, it's the same thing with Top Rock, right?
- 1:05:39You know you got 2 riders that are sitting here saying one of
- 1:05:41us is not going to be here next year.
- 1:05:48I, I think, I think Honda's problem is trying to get that
- 1:05:53platform better. If listen, we've seen it now,
- 1:06:00Aprilia could win. Honda can't win unless it's a
- 1:06:06crash or tidal wave. What the hell is Martinez going
- 1:06:11to do for for for Honda? What is he going to do?
- 1:06:14Because Honda doesn't have the power like Aprilia?
- 1:06:16I mean, Martinez is on his way out the door.
- 1:06:22If you can't win on Aprilia, what the hell are you going to
- 1:06:25do with Honda? Get that bag.
- 1:06:31I'm so sick of getting the bag. Here's a bag bag.
- 1:06:36I think Honda needs to wait, wait a little bit.
- 1:06:43I think Honda needs to wait a little bit.
- 1:06:46It's just I know their policies. You know, we was talking about
- 1:06:50policies a while ago. Like I think Ducati has the most
- 1:06:54freedom for their riders. So like, you know, you know, I
- 1:07:01don't know Honda and their policy is a little different.
- 1:07:03Do they want to inherit this type of behavior or they just
- 1:07:06looking to try to win? But I, I don't know, I think
- 1:07:11they. Yeah, but he's already burned
- 1:07:12all those bridges. Right.
- 1:07:15Yeah, yeah, he burned every bridge too, so.
- 1:07:18KTM, Ducati and freaking Napoleon now.
- 1:07:23I, I think winning and, and, and Reese could probably back me up
- 1:07:26on this. Winning just starts by a good
- 1:07:30team. If if, if everybody's on page,
- 1:07:33everybody's going to give that little extra effort and then
- 1:07:36you're going to start seeing the wins come right when we're
- 1:07:39seeing I. Can agree.
- 1:07:41Yeah, when when we're seeing Alex and Marquez winning,
- 1:07:46hugging safe place, that just helps all of Ducati win, right?
- 1:07:52There's there's I mean, Pekko may be saying a little crazy
- 1:07:56things, but he's still all in with Ducati.
- 1:08:01Martinez is a virus that will just infect the paddock and and,
- 1:08:06and it's he's got to go. I think it's enough's enough,
- 1:08:11enough's enough. I.
- 1:08:11Can agree, I can agree with Smitty on that on and, you know,
- 1:08:16even in our, in our group, I mean all of the crew, you know,
- 1:08:20we work together, we hang together, we know what the rider
- 1:08:23wants, we know what he's going to do.
- 1:08:25And we it's like it's like a whole gel and it just works and
- 1:08:31it makes the team and the morale that much better.
- 1:08:35And you can see like in our guys, Jake's coming back, his
- 1:08:38hand is getting stronger. You know, we all still believe
- 1:08:41in all riders and we believe, you know, we're still we're
- 1:08:44still the number one team out there, you know, so, but long as
- 1:08:50you have that morale as a team and everybody in that group can
- 1:08:55pull their weight and get along, you have the strongest team.
- 1:09:00Like I can rely on my guy to do something and he can rely on me.
- 1:09:04You know all riders, they can sit back like now they got it
- 1:09:08and everything done, bye and go ride and put it to the full test
- 1:09:12and send it and won't have a thing to worry about and that's
- 1:09:17when you know that you are in that level.
- 1:09:24Anyone else want to add anything about that?
- 1:09:26No. Sounds good.
- 1:09:29Sounds good. Hey, listen man, let's go find
- 1:09:32out. Team Smitty.
- 1:09:34What's that? There's no I in team.
- 1:09:38But it sure isn't me me. That means me.
- 1:09:45All right, guys, until next week.
- 1:09:47I didn't get a chance to talk move to America, but it sounds
- 1:09:50like it was a good time out there, guys.
- 1:09:54It was, it was a good time, it was fun.
- 1:09:57Looking for next week, see what we do.
- 1:09:59Laguna Seca. Laguna, here we come.
- 1:10:02Oh man, it's one of the nicest tracks around.
- 1:10:05I. I got a question for you
- 1:10:07recently. What's up?
- 1:10:09Sorry, sorry, sorry. I got a question.
- 1:10:10OK, So I know Josh Herring is killing it right now, right?
- 1:10:15So going into your weekend, do y'all just stick to your game
- 1:10:18plan or you do you try to figure out how to stop him or like slow
- 1:10:22him down because you know you play as a team?
- 1:10:25No, you stick to your game plan. You stick to your game plan and
- 1:10:29you know, we go out there and send it.
- 1:10:32You know we don't. We don't worry about the other
- 1:10:34guy. You know, if if you could get in
- 1:10:38their head and you can get in front, you already know where
- 1:10:41you're at. You know, he's on a high and
- 1:10:45he's on at that pace. You know he's going to he's in
- 1:10:48he's in that in that zone right now.
- 1:10:51And the way you saw him now you stick to your game plan, you
- 1:10:53stick to what we know best and we know that.
- 1:10:56I mean, you can see it to where, you know, Ganye's, you know,
- 1:11:02he's he took podium, he took pole, you know, so we're right
- 1:11:07there, we're right where we want to be.
- 1:11:08We're coming. We know it and they know it.
- 1:11:12It it's coming. Sounds like Pekko Bagnaya on
- 1:11:16that note. I'm going to leave with that
- 1:11:20note on PEKKA. We have a chance.
- 1:11:24I don't know about PEKKA. I had to get in there, man.
- 1:11:31Hey guys. I want.
- 1:11:31Thanks for coming on. My name is Rex 25.
- 1:11:33This is the Be Forever Cool podcast.
- 1:11:35Peace.
