  [upbeat music] Oh, baby, you
• 0:18
got what I need. If that's Full Spectrum Cycling Show number 123, then- 123... we got what you, we got what you need. Rest in peace, Biz Markie. Holy mackerel, we had a full house in here before. [laughs] It was thick.
• 0:33
Now, it's just, uh, it's just JK. Hello, hello. James, James is sitting in the silent seat. Silent Bob. What's up? [laughs] Rest in peace, Dusty Hill. You're gonna ha- yeah, right? Yeah. Little, uh, little ZZ Top action.
• 0:47
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Or not so much anymore. They're supposed to play at Summerfest this year. Yeah. I think last night maybe. Well, the, there was a guy filling in for Dusty in recent years, so I think that might continue.
• 0:59
So sidetrack. Sitting right next to James is the one and only Big Sexy. Big Sexy. Hello. Hello, everyone. How are, how is everybody? [laughs] Tony, you could help him, uh, f- fix up his microphone just once.
• 1:11
He says he wants to keep that far away, but I think he should be closer. Well, 'cause I, I'll probably get a little louder. Just put it right up. Put it right up. Put it right, put it right up in. As we go along.
• 1:18
Put it in the, there you go. I'll get a little more louder. You can self-mute. There we go. Hey, hey. It's, it's easy. It's like, oh, yeah. The, the technology takes care of itself. Yeah. Right, right.
• 1:24
It's, it's pretty awesome. Yeah, it's common sense as well at times. And- I'd be like, I'm getting a little into. Finally- Decided to come back... Mr. Tony Berger. Hey.
• 1:34
The, the, the newly shorn- I was wishing there was the qu-... Tony Berger [laughs]... I wish the kewpie- Oh... the little kewpie- I don't... top. I thought the kewpie thing was cool. I think we- Yeah...
• 1:44
we do have some photos of it. Hey, folks- You, you-... it was the River West 24 last weekend. And, uh- I have, like, like- That's what happened to Tony... if I, if I would try to do a man bun with my wispy-ass- Yeah...
• 1:53
balding-ass hair, it would look like what you had on the front- Yep... but up, that up on the top. I [laughs]... That's all I could see when you had that [laughs] I have a real job, you guys.
• 2:03
I have to look- I have a real job... presentable. Cut it out. They- I do... they would give you a pass for the 24, or at least a male, yeah. I don't know. It would take a lot of explaining.
• 2:12
Well, it w- But who cares because it's River West 24- You'd wear a chef hat... and now my head's shaved. If you wore a, a jaunty fedora. Maybe a derby. Oh, yeah, man. Yeah. It'd be like I'm bringing it back.
• 2:20
With a mask on at my medical clinic? No. I'm, um- Wear a derby. Wear a chef's hat. Maybe even fuse them. [laughs] I, so I saw, I saw pictures of the, of the, the, the shaving.
• 2:30
I'm like, "Was this when I was passed out on the sidewalk or after I was passed out on the sidewalk?" [laughs] He had- Yeah, it was, it was a rough one...
• 2:37
I don't know if it's only when Jen cuts your hair you get that goofy smile. You just kinda lean into it pretty good. Oh. You're just like, "Mm." Just do it. I'm sorry, but I- Do it. [laughs]...
• 2:45
I, I w- I would've been down for the haircut. I know she was gonna, she was gonna m- Go with the beard, man... oh, she would go after this, and that was not gonna ha- she did it once. Yeah. Once. Yeah. Cut me once.
• 2:56
So 100 checkpoints. How many- Shame on me... how many did you guys get? I haven't counted. I've done, I, not as many as you, but, but- Well, I, I think I did between 12 and 15 for real. Right.
• 3:06
But I also got the haircut one from you, and I got the tattoo one from James. I'm, I'm- So [laughs] I didn't even earn them. Really? But I got them. Did you get a tattoo? Yeah. Nice.
• 3:15
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. Um- One. I got one. Probably right, did you get it at my place? [laughs] Which, which one did you do? So, um- The, uh, WMSC shoutout. Oh, right on. Yeah, that was a good one.
• 3:26
Yeah. I did myself as Sven Hammerup on that. Nice. I did mine as Michael. Local radio celebrity Sven Hammer has something to say. Michael, AKA Fat Bike Mike. Oh, there you go. For the, who's at home. Yeah.
• 3:37
So- I was really excited that- I don't know. Yeah, it was self, a little self-promotion on both, you know, everything. First of all, a number of people got their very first tattoo in my dining room. That's nice.
• 3:49
I w- That's, that's-... I considered it because- That's freaking bragging rights, man... this was a weird year. Mm. Yeah. I considered it. That's freaking bragging rights.
• 3:54
And over 100 people got tattoos [laughs] in my house. And the boards, which we might wanna throw on the podcast notes here- If, if I had pictures of them... uh, I can DM you obviously, um, turned out to be really fun.
• 4:07
You did, did you see any of those? I did. James? Oh, I saw the one that was up in f- saw the one that was up in front, that front room. Yeah. They, they turned out pretty funny. Little bit, yeah, in the sign-up area.
• 4:18
They turn, they're gonna be a great, I call it a wall capsule. So it's like a, it's like Hardie Board that's gonna have the, the words on the inside. Right.
• 4:26
So when somebody tears this house down 100 years from now, they're gonna- They'll be like, "What the hell is this?" What... So this is the- What's the River West 24?... 113th running of the River West 24. Right.
• 4:33
Or 114th. That's kind of my goal. And I just, I thought of it the morning- Ahoy, we're going through the ruins- You know?... of River West. [laughs] I thought of it the morning I woke up for the race.
• 4:40
I'm like, "I gotta go do this." I told Molly, and she's like, "No." She's like, "Okay, that's cool." I mean, I don't know if, if the napalm that I plan to blast down- Yeah...
• 4:49
just, just west of you would get on your house. Stop saying that. [laughs] That's not a good thing to say at all- Just-... considering that's where I work... to raze the neighborhood and start fresh.
• 5:00
[laughs] 'Cause sometimes you just have to burn everything down. All right, Travis Bickle.
• 5:05
[laughs] But hey, you know, the, the River West 24 was- Yeah, someday a rain is gonna come and wash away all this scum and the shit and the filth and the dirt and the bacteria... amazing.
• 5:15
We were listening to The Clash before. [laughs] Give 'em Enough Rope is, is queued up right there. Oh, nice. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. But yes, the River West 24 this year was- We have now it's like-...
• 5:25
absolutely fantastic, totally different, and, um, a really good time. Well, prior to the 24- It was overwhelming to me... prior to the 24- Well, I liked it. I liked it. Something else happened prior...
• 5:35
let's go back in time. I like that. I mean, but it- Let's go back in time a few more days. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. The Way Back Machine. Is this done?
• 5:42
To when we took the ferry over and picked up Big Sexy. Us. That was amazing. So we, James, oh, Luns, he left, and I
• 5:53
took the Lake Express over there to the Michigan side, and then rolled down to Grand Haven, where we, we met a, a very happy Big Sexy. [laughs] Yeah, well, I was very happy after- He'd been, he'd been waiting.
• 6:04
And we took- I wasn't, I wasn't really happy. I got cut off. [laughs]We, we took a later ferry than we would normally take to get over there, and I don't think we made it to Grand Haven till 7:00 PM or so. Oh, wow.
• 6:15
Yeah, it was just about 7:00 PM. Yeah. Getting towards dusk, you know? It was h- happy hour for everybody. The bars were busy and everybody was out in their regalia.
• 6:27
I had started drinking at, like, 7:00 AM in my hotel room [laughs] in Grand Haven. Uh-oh. And just because I had nothing else to do. That'll, that'll be something you can do for, for a good solid day. Well, well I got...
• 6:40
Well, I, I went and got my hair cut and I went, you know, and I, and I was going around and I was, I was drinking and I went to a couple different bars I had my eyes on, and then Dave, uh, texted me for the, um, the Tip, Tip some- Tip a Few?
• 6:54
Tip A Few. Oh, Tip A Few. Yeah. The- And, uh, he said, "That's where we're gonna meet." I'm like, "Okay."
• 6:57
I went there and I had a beer and a shot, and then the waitress came up, said, "You're not having any more alcohol." [laughs] I was like, "Oh, man." Yeah, sh- Fucking Michigan...
• 7:07
she remembered that even later- Fucking waitresses... when we went in and ate food in there. Right. Oh, no- She's like, "You still can't have any?" Yeah. No, and, and but she was like, "You can't have any more."
• 7:15
I'm like, "Well, that's fine." You're cut off. Well, I had a cooler full of beer and Jägermeister too, so [laughs] Like, who died and made you God, lady? Right. Right.
• 7:23
Well, you won't get that in Milwaukee all that often. You have to really be egregious here. [laughs] I mean, you know, some folks that, that live here and party here, Luns, go to other- [laughs]...
• 7:33
go to other towns and- [laughs]... figure it's like Milwaukee, but it's not. It's not. You could be- It's not... who, who's the guy on, uh, on, uh, um, the Andy Griffith Show that's always in jail? The- Um, Opie.
• 7:46
I don't know. No, no, not Opie. [laughs] Otis. Otis. Otis. Opie, Opie's the heroin addict. Otis. Otis. Otis. Yeah. Otis the town drunk, yeah. Catching the tran- tank car with the drunk called Otis. Right. Yep.
• 7:55
So he's always in there just sleeping. [laughs] Okay. He, he goes in and closes the door on himself. That's gonna be Luns in Decorah one of these days. The, the- Welcome to the Beastie Boys, Trump...
• 8:02
on, on The Simpsons- Awesome... on The Simpsons, they, they have a, the guy, "Okay, Otis, you're free to go. Just, uh, just behave yourself."
• 8:09
He's like, "Yo, you can let me go now, but I'll keep on exposing myself at the mall." [laughs] [laughs] And, and look, look, I mean, it, it, it wa- I wasn't that drunk as far as, uh, uh, especially in
• 8:24
New Orleans' standpoint. It was like, I was like w- w- I would've had to've been at a pretty prissy bar to get cut off for being that drunk.
• 8:32
But I'm big, I'm loud, and you know, and, and if you don't know me and you see Heather packed up with a pillow and all, they're like, "Oh my God, this homeless man's gonna come move in with us."
• 8:44
[laughs] So, you know, a- I completely understood that, and I didn't, I didn't put up a fight. I was like, "It's okay. Just don't make me leave. You don't have to serve me alcohol. I'm meeting my friends here."
• 8:54
Like you have friends? [laughs] Yes. Don't you see them? Yeah, what are their names? [laughs] That, that one flying up around that cloud right there is Mr. Sparkle and [laughs] yeah.
• 9:07
I mean, but, but no, that, that was, that was kind of an ideal, but whatever. When we got to the campsite and, and I... Uh-oh. Phone's ringing, dude. It's on this phone. You, you know, you know what that is? Phone.
• 9:17
Oh my God, I forgot to turn it off. That's a, that's a wake-up alarm. You know what this is? Is it Luns? Look. Hold it, I'll show you. It says, it says, "Call the podcast." [laughs] [laughs] Right?
• 9:28
It's like a weekly reminder, is it? Yeah. I knew it. [laughs] And, and I, uh, I totally forgot to turn it off. Hey, but now you're, uh, right here in the flesh instead of from- Right...
• 9:36
parts unknown and in- You could call in though. That would be scary... everywhere and anywhere in BFE and- That's right... the big city. I wonder how much of a delay there is if you call in and you're actually here too.
• 9:45
Right? Well, that's- It'd keep you in, like, two places at one time. Hey, speaking of calling in- Yeah... I got a, I got an email from Jay.
• 9:52
I, I don't know who Jay is, but he said, "You guys should have people email in questions so you can answer them." And then he didn't leave a question? No. Oh.
• 10:01
But I sent him a note back that said, "Well, we do have the call-in line," and we used to do this on the old show, and I wish people would kind of, you know, get back into it, which is call the number, 717-727-2453.
• 10:13
That spells bike. And ask us a question. We can even use your recorded voice on the air. Whoa. But, you know- [laughs]... I mean, also you could email. Wow. I don't even know what the email is.
• 10:23
Probably greg@fullspectrumcycling.com or some such. That sounds right. But, um, yeah. Uh, hey, speaking of that call-in line, uh, you wanna push a button, push a button, push a button, push a button. Push the button.
• 10:36
Button. Hey, welcome to the radio program. Welcome to the radio program. Caller. Caller. Who, who do we have on the line? Who do we have on the line? Echo. Echo. You have, you have, you have me. Oh. You have me. Oh.
• 10:45
I don't have a microphone, so I'm calling in from right next to- I stole my microphone... yeah, there-... your microphone. There is a significant echo, so let's- This is gonna be a pretty great podcast...
• 10:55
just letting you know. Well, this is a test... pretty great podcast. This is a test- It's-... for the Full Spectrum- Wait, wait, now we have to go full-on... Cycling podcast system. This has only been a test.
• 11:04
Easy, killer. We have to see how this does with you next to another person's microphone. All right. No, don't do that. I'm living in a cuckoo clock. Stop it.
• 11:12
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. There's the feedback. [laughs] Everybody gets shut off. Sorry, [laughs] this was really funny. Everyone gets shut off- Radio listener...
• 11:21
creepiness. What? Oh, I didn't even know that was your number. I just, I don't remember phone numbers anymore- [laughs]... so I'm like- You got mine dialed in though, 'cause I, I can tell- This is awesome...
• 11:30
'cause y- you know, like- It's fucking sick... I, I can hear a little... When, when, when I call in, I, I, when I call in, I, I hear a little silence. Like, uh, w- we, we gonna do this or what? You know?
• 11:39
[laughs] Oh, no, it's b- it's sexy again... it's sexy to get your- It's sexy calling in. I wonder how drunk he is. Oh, shit. [laughs] So, so B- BS. [laughs] Fucking- Uh, what do you...
• 11:50
So we rode on Friday after our camp out with, um... Oh, hey, you guys talk about our camp out, or maybe JK. Yeah. Yeah. Our, our neighbor Rusty had a, has a package for me,
• 12:02
um, that I hope is derailleur hangers for this stupid TT bike. I see, I couldn't help but notice that's still in the shop, Greg. Yeah, 'cause there's no derailleur hangers for the thing- Yeah, well, like, it's, uh-...
• 12:11
after, like, eight weeks of paying for it and coming from the Netherlands apparently. That's kind of what's good. You know, you buy a carbon fiber bike. That looks like an awful big box for derailleur hangers.
• 12:18
I don't know. Car- carbon fibers. Carbon fibers. Uh- Probably still in their packaging... I don't know. Throw it on the floor. I'll step on it later. Throw it on the ground. Um- Yeah.
• 12:27
So, we, after our, we did have a nice rain there overnight Oh, overnight was a, and I got wet. I got wet. Yeah.
• 12:35
But I knew, I knew it was gonna rain overnight, but I still chose not to cover myself with anything, and I was, uh, oops.
• 12:42
[laughs] Finally got wet in my, in my h- hammock setup, 'cause, uh, we were on the beach with, you know, I basically was, tied my hammock to two of the five trees on the entire state park. Ooh.
• 12:54
Yeah, there was really- Which is non-alcoholic, by the way That's a problem with a, with a state park's gonna... You never know. It was. I was drinking the whole time.
• 13:00
Yeah, you man- man- De- Well, somebody managed to make a big pile of cans. [laughs] Right. I just managed to, like, be surreptitious and drink out of my water bottle. Oh, clever you.
• 13:12
Yeah, so it rained really pretty good and, and then, uh, then after that it stopped raining and we rode to, uh, uh, Muskegon- We couldn't-... the next, the next day... get- 15 miles without a gas station. Jesus.
• 13:24
[laughs] Did you have a very nice ride, did you? Yeah, how do you go- No... 15 miles without a gas station in a heavily populated coastal ar- uh, lake coastal area?
• 13:32
I guess if we would've gone inland a little bit- Right... there would've been more, but, you know. I, we, we- I was-... th- so we were kind of on the plan to get to Muskegon as quickly as possible- Yeah...
• 13:41
and then, and then mill about in Muskegon and go to several places. But- Yeah... I know that riding Heather is not as fast as riding even fat bikes, which we were on. [laughs] Anything close.
• 13:52
And we thought that we should've brought an e-assist front hub. Well, and I'll tell- Oh, that's a good idea... I'll tell you what, um, it ch- Is it time to call Full Spectrum Cycling yet?
• 14:00
It is time to- 717- That, that's a- 727... 727-2456... that, that should be the end of that. Bike. But it, no, I'll, I'll tell you what.
• 14:07
It was the first time I'd ever really ridden with somebody with a destination, and I warned you guys. I said, "Hey, we go slow, and I have to walk Heather up hills."
• 14:20
And we didn't come across any hills, but at the same time, I was like, "Where? Wha, wha?" I was trying to catch up with you guys, and I'm like, I'm like, "Wait a minute. What, why am I trying to catch up with them?"
• 14:32
Yeah, why are you trying so hard? We're all, we're all, we're all going the same place. We'll wait. Yeah, you'll get there. We'll wait for you. Right. We know where you're going, man. Just- Right.
• 14:38
Well, but, but, you know, but I was, I was, for the experience of it, I was trying to, to keep up with you guys, and I'm like, "Oh my God."
• 14:45
Like, we got up from the breakfast table and went 17 miles before we could find a gas station.
• 14:49
And then we finally found a gas station, then we went what seemed like another 17 miles before we got to- It was only, like, two though... I, I know. [laughs] And you got pushed. [laughs] Yeah. Oh, oh yeah.
• 15:00
On the uphill trail- Oh, yeah, yeah... got a little human assist, not the e-assist. Come on, we can do it. Once we got to- Oh, Big Sam... once we got to Milwaukee, Sam was- SMS... Sam- Strong Man Sam... Sam helped along.
• 15:09
Right. And well, well, when we got to Milwaukee, when it got, when we got the boat, um, I was pretty inebriated. But at the same time, I do remember somebody holding up a cardboard sign saying, "Heather the tricycle."
• 15:21
I, I felt so, I was like, "Wow" That was, uh, that was JK, right? Yeah, I was like, "Wow." That was, yeah. Yep. That was awesome. That was the one. I, I was leaving the house- Was, yeah...
• 15:28
and I'm thinking, I'm like, I'm like, "I'm forgetting something." I'm like, "Oh, yeah, I was gonna do the, like- Like-... kitchy limo guy- Yep, yep, yep... kinda ha ha, ha ha. That- And-...
• 15:37
that made me feel, that made me feel awesome. That started- So, well-... that started everything out really awesome, so... the Sharpie fumes made me feel awesome after doing that. [laughs] I suppose. I was like, "Whoa."
• 15:47
Like- I suppose. But, um, but then, then everything became a blur. I mean, of course because of the Jagermeister, but because of the beer, and, but because I really had no idea where I was or what I...
• 16:02
'Cause look, out of everybody, I had met Dave for, Dave Lunds. Mm. I met him-.com... dot com. Um, I have, I met him for, uh, maybe an hour or two before, you know, meeting y'all up.
• 16:19
  I, I didn't know anybody.
• 16:21
I didn't know, I couldn't put fa- now I can put faces to the, to the voices, and, and I, I'm, I've been having so much fun and, and literally River West is one of my favorite communities in the country- [laughs]...
• 16:35
let alone Wisconsin- Yeah, River West... let alone the Midwest. The West. I mean, I've, I've had so much fun here since, since Friday. 30 years. Well, to be fair, James is a good tour director. He's- Oh...
• 16:45
he's sort of Julie McCoy, only a guy. [laughs] Well, I'll, I'll tell you what. Th- this- She's Jeff McCoy. Back in '98 or '99, I came in for an Insane Clown Posse show. Oh. ICP.
• 16:58
And, uh, we, we, we stayed at The Ambassador and went to The Rave for the show, and then we went home. And I passed through a couple times on the way to or from Chicago because we wanted to do something different.
• 17:09
And then there was, when I met up with Christy and Greg, um, Christy and Greg Carey who introduced me to Dave. Nice. I know those humans. And then- And then everything went downhill from there... right.
• 17:20
But then, but then- It was uphill from here... but then Da- Dave told you all about me, and then you got ahold of me when I was almost to my aunt's house. And then we started doing this call-in thing, blah, blah, blah.
• 17:30
And, and it just grew from there. And so I didn't know anybody, but- Now you do...
• 17:35
if, if I feel, if I feel comfortable enough to pull up a piece of sidewalk and lay down for a couple hours, I mean, come on, I feel, I feel at home. [laughs] I don't do that in just any city. [laughs] Yeah.
• 17:48
He- Heather got a little, uh- You, you can't do it-... a little, a little pedicure maybe. A little footwork- Yeah... on the old, uh- God, she, she got, she got a spa day. Oh. She got a spa day. Fancy, fancy.
• 17:58
And, and I'll tell, I'll tell you what, she, uh, and me and Heather have been... I have, you know, I walked her up when, uh, oh, and Jim, and Jimmy has shown me more of this city than I've ever seen in my life and, and
• 18:11
I really appreciate it. And but Heather has just been riding like a dream this whole time, and, and it's because of the good people like you. Like, and you, you brought her right in here.
• 18:23
We got pictures of it I s- I'm, I'm thinking we- Oh, we gotta thank, we gotta shout out to Al Martin too- Right. Yeah... 'cause Al, Al's my, my wrench, and he is the wheel guy.
• 18:31
And he did the- He did the transplant [laughs] W- both my wheel, both my wheels were wobbling pretty damn good, uh, uh, up at Michigan Right. They also did her hair and nails. Yep, yep. Right.
• 18:42
Well, like, like I said, so Heather, Heather got her spa day, and, and Jimmy's been taking care of me.
• 18:47
Like, we've been hanging out, and he's been feeding me, and, and, and, uh, and you know, we, we went and did some work and shit like that. But m- and it's been such a wonderful experience.
• 18:58
And, uh, like for s- somehow, some way, I'm gonna wrench Milwaukee into, into my plans in the near future. Right on. I'll, I'll make it happen.
• 19:07
And all you other people out there that are thinking about coming here, you know, pretty good place for most people too. Yeah. Well, we, we do kinda like this place. Yeah. Yeah.
• 19:13
I mean, it used to be a harder sell after the Bucks victory- Yeah... putting it on a map. It does put it at least occasionally on the map, at least for a, a- Yep... couple news cycles. Speaking of the, the Bucks.
• 19:26
A couple news cycles. A couple news cycles. It'd be like, "Oh, hey, hey." Yeah. Speaking of the, uh, Bucks. And then, ooh, look, the jingling keys. A blue car. Oh, on top of the hill. Speak of the devil.
• 19:36
Where- We sell a beer. Wait a second. What happened to that Jagermeister? It's gone. [laughs] Top of the hill Jagermeister right here. We hit the top of the hill. Uh, we're not, we're not Jagermeistering.
• 19:48
Thanks to, to JK, we have, uh, a retro version of Narragansett. Narragansett. Narragansett. Narragansett. Once you're here, you'll never forget it. It's the 1975 version in a can.
• 19:59
This is, this is the act- this is the one where Quint, uh, in the movie Jaws, slams it down in front of Richard Dreyfuss- Yeah... when they're having their little standoff. All right. And then- That's right.
• 20:11
And then- And the, the, uh, the- Does he eat the can? Stephen King makes several mentions of such beer as well. Yeah. Does he eat the, doesn't he eat, eat the can or something? Like, or he bites the can?
• 20:21
No, he just crushes it. Crushes it against the- Crushes it. Crush it like Quint, man. Yeah. Crush it like Quint. And, and then he gets... Does he get et by the shark later? Yeah. Painfully. Don't, don't- Oh, yes.
• 20:29
Don't spoil it- Oh, Lord... if you've never seen it. Oh, Lord, it's from 75. 2, 7 or whatever the hell it was. It is. [laughs] I guess if you've never seen Jaws, now we just ruined it for you. Oh, my God.
• 20:39
I'm so sorry, youth of America. I, I just, I loved the robotic- Very good song by the way... nature of that shark. Yeah. [laughs] Ham, mam, mam. I wanna hear it now.
• 20:50
I had a Molly, uh, birthday reference set up here, and I totally missed it, but that's okay. Set it up. Set it up again.
• 20:57
I'm gonna try to remember it again, but it had something to do with the beer, top of the hill, all of it, and it just, it... I'm, um... Oh, speaking of the Bucks win, win. Congratulations, y'all, by the way.
• 21:11
Um, they, uh, I was at the public market- It, yeah, it was a lot of heavy lifting on our part... after the Van Gogh exhibit at, uh... [laughs] 1206 at- And the public market, it was probably 45% Bucks gear.
• 21:25
It was- On the people? On the people. Versus? It was absolutely... At the public market on Monday. Oh, shit. Yeah, yeah. I can imagine.
• 21:32
Well, as a Minnesotan, I find the Milwaukee Bucks gear much more pleasing to the eye than the Green Bay Packers gear. I'm really sorry to say. Oh, yeah, but we got- Um, you don't have to be sorry about it...
• 21:40
but we got A-Rod. But as a Saints fan- We got A-Rod back now, though. But as a Saints fan- All is well in the world That's all in the marketing department, man. As a Saints fan, we- [laughs]...
• 21:48
we, we don't care who your quarterback is. We're coming for you. Are you talking about Karen Rodgers? Karen Rodgers. Yeah, [laughs] that's what they call him in Minnesota too. Karen Rodgers. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah.
• 21:56
Well, well, okay. Well- In the Green, in the Green Bay Packers... hey, hey, it's 90, it's 90 miles. It's not like it's right in the backyard. It's a shadow passing, yes. It's, hey.
• 22:04
I lo- I lo- hey, it's- You wouldn't be calling him Karen. It'd be like- Well, I'll tell you, I'll- You'd probably do that if- I'll tell you one thing- James is talking, but we can't hear him- Yeah...
• 22:11
'cause he doesn't have a microphone right now. Well, I'll tell you one, I'll tell you- You should call in at 717- Don't do that again... 727. Stop at, stop at 2453. That's Mike.
• 22:19
[laughs] Well, I'll tell, I'll tell you one thing about, about, um, about my football, uh, um, gives a fuck or don't give a fuck about.
• 22:29
Um, when Green Bay comes to New Orleans to play the Saints, it's always a really good weekend, and they always have fun. They always tip. Yeah.
• 22:38
Every once in a while we'll have a little trouble after the game if the Saints win, but, but other than that, nobody will- You're, you're mixing Wisconsinites with Louisianians- Yeah... especially New Orleans. Ah.
• 22:48
Well- Yeah, we, we are there to party... I think, uh, I think anywhere the Packers fans, and mostly, and maybe to a lesser extent- Isn't the first game of the season, uh-... Brewers fans, but- Yeah, it is. It is, yeah...
• 22:57
do a great job in any city they go to. From, uh, Sep- They do. They do... September, September 12th. They drain, they drain the beer from the bars. That's what they have to do. [laughs] That's our job. In New Orleans.
• 23:04
Superdome, yep, yep. Oh, they're playing in New Orleans this year? Yep. First game. First game. New Orleans now. Yeah. The Ninth Ward's now.
• 23:10
I've heard more, from more than a couple people going like, "No weird coalition." And I, I'll tell you what, I will say, I will say the same thing about the Cowboys fans. I used to hate Dallas when I was growing up.
• 23:18
I used to hate the Cowboys 'cause of Herschel Walker. [laughs] I get it.
• 23:23
Um, any, anyway, um, and, uh, but when the Cowboys fans come to town, when the, when the Cowboys play the Saints in New Orleans, it's always a good weekend.
• 23:32
The Cowboys fans always are really cool, and they al- Oh, that's cool... they tip and blah, blah, blah. But you know who doesn't? Philly. Well, Philly's, Philly sucks.
• 23:41
[laughs] Um, um, but Atlanta, Atlanta, we get a- Really?... we get them once a year, and it's the worst weekend of the year. They're just terrible douchebags.
• 23:51
They order, they order a bunch of lemons and sugar and w- iced water, and they expect it to be for free,
• 23:58
and then they trash your, they trash your restaurant, and they trash your table, and then they show you their ass on the way out, and they're just awful people. I'm really sorry, but I hate the people of Atlanta.
• 24:10
[laughs] I hate all of your sports teams. I hate your city, and I hate your state. I can, uh- Sava- Savannah. [laughs] Savannah, Savannah is passable.
• 24:21
I, uh, because I have- But they don't have a, they don't have a sports ball team there Uh, in Savannah? And did it? No. No.
• 24:27
Well, they might have, they might have something- B- that's where Long, where the Jewels are from, man...
• 24:30
but- Right, I can definitely second, uh, Big Sexy's disdain for Atlanta, as we have been constantly hanging out for the last several days, and that's about the, uh, 40th-ish time that, uh, it's been mentioned.
• 24:45
[laughs] Right. Well, well- No, I'm moving... a- and I, I'm, I'm, I'm here to tell you that I, I found a route- Didn't realize what you were doing there, sir... uh, Fer- Vernon- Trying to make love...
• 24:54
Fernandina, Fernandina Beach, Florida, and then you, you go, you, you snake into Georgia at Kingsland, and then you, and then boom, you're in Savannah.
• 25:03
And then as soon as you get out of Savannah, you're in South Carolina. Perfect. Boom. Choo, choo, choo. Just like that. Good enough. Zing, zing, zoom.
• 25:11
And, and you, and you don't have to deal with the rest of the bag of hammers that's the State of Georgia. [laughs] Thank the Lord for that small favor. Is, is, is, is this my political platform?
• 25:21
Can I keep on talking trash about Georgia? You can tell us what you're doing coming up, 'cause- Yeah. Oh, sure... you're, you're leaving town tomorrow, aren't you? Yeah, I am, I am, I am leaving Milwaukee's- Awesome...
• 25:32
graces. [laughs] And I swear to God, thank you so much, especially Riverwest, and especially you guys, man. You g- you guys, you guys know how to make a dude and a tricycle feel welcome. [laughs] Um, I'll tell you what.
• 25:43
What, what I'm doing is I'm, I'm going to Merrill, Wisconsin. Merrill. Merrill. Um, Merrill. And, and y- you can talk trash about Merrill all you want. I like that little town.
• 25:51
Nope, that, that, that- I like that little town... that Thrilla good factory there, though. I tell you what I've got old roommates from Merrill. The, the, what, what'd you say? You said something about the shoe factory?
• 25:57
The Thrilla good, Thrilla good factory. Oh, and, but they have a shoe factory. Yeah, yeah, that's the one. Okay, yeah. Um- That's the place...
• 26:03
I was considering getting a job there before I moved back to N- Minneapolis to a m- with my brother, and put Heather together and got on this journey. Right.
• 26:12
So thank God I'm not working in that fucking shoe factory right now. It would be probably hot in there right now. Yeah, I bet you it would. Also, there are gonna be carnies up that way, too.
• 26:19
You'd be a curmudgeon working in a shoe factory. [laughs] Yeah, okay, yeah, but, but, so, so after- Who needs that? [laughs]...
• 26:24
after Merrill, I'm gonna spend a good three, I'm gonna spend about a good month in Minneapolis between mid-August and early September, and then I'm gonna, um...
• 26:35
Do you remember that I started this as a capital collecting- I do remember... mission? We- Well, I'm-... do remember... I am gonna go and grab Lincoln, Nebraska, Topeka, Kansas.
• 26:48
Um, I'm gonna stop in Kansas City for a second, and then I'm gonna go to Oklahoma City. Okay. And then I'm gonna go to- The-...
• 26:54
Austin, and then I'm gonna do the Texas Gulf Coast, and then I'm gonna, I, I, I'm gonna, I have to do Baton Rouge eventually, so I'm gonna do Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge. Oh.
• 27:03
And then I'm gonna go to New Orleans and try to make some money. Sounds good. So that'll fund next year's fun. Well, no. [laughs] It, it'll, it'll fund, it'll fund last weekend's fun,
• 27:16
but then I'll keep on working so I can fund last weekend's fun again. That's, a- a- and that's usually how it goes in New Orleans, so I'm like, I'm always paying somebody back for what I did the last week.
• 27:27
But, I mean, everybody knows I'm good for it. I work my ass off, so. [laughs] There you go. Well- What are, what are we gonna do? I, I don't know. I guess we'll do another show next week. Yeah?
• 27:38
Hey, let's, let's remind everybody of that, uh, Jay's idea of calling in and saying, "Hey, I got a question for you, Jim Oakes." Could be about bikes if you want. It doesn't have to be. But, um, 717-727-2453.
• 27:52
I'll tell you what. Also, one thing we should mention is just how badass Berta and, uh, Mike are gonna be. Jesus Christ, yeah. I saw that on the thing- Single speed motherfucking race across Wisconsin.
• 28:06
They're riding across the state of Wisconsin- And-... on their single speed bikes... they did it last year. That is true. So- And-... they did it once... and they're older than me... and they're doing it again.
• 28:15
Are they doing it across the fat of the mitten, or the- And they're, yeah, it's, uh, La Crosse to Green Bay. Ooh, that's, that, that, that's pretty fat, yeah. That's a pretty good run. It's, it's- 3-... is it 300?...
• 28:24
300 miles? I don't know. No, it's gotta be more than- 275?... it's gotta be more than 300. It, it's, it's, it's, it's, yeah, it's pretty- It's pretty heavy... it's pretty far. But, yeah. That's what it is.
• 28:32
[laughs] But they're just badass. On a mofo single speed or whatever it is. They're just badass riders. And I think they're doing, I th- well, I know his is a- Myopically, like-... is a fat bike. I don't know- Yeah...
• 28:39
what hers is. No. Well, that's what I'm doing. I'm pretty sure. Is he really gonna do his tie? Ride it on the, ride it on the Pug. No, the tie has gears. Oh, okay.
• 28:46
Well, it was funny- But he also had, like, a 48/16 on the, on the Pugsley- Well, he's not gonna do it on the Pug... which was kinda silly. [laughs] That'd be insanity. Well, I don't know. Huh? Who knows? I don't know.
• 28:55
It'll happen. Who knows? I don't know. Who knows? I don't know. That would be awesome. It'll happen. It'll happen. They'll do it. So that's the, I think- You know they'll do it... that's the Raw thing.
• 29:01
They will document. Mm. They will document. We'll find out. They'll get great freaking pictures. They will.
• 29:04
And we got o- we got other stuff coming up later, but Single Speed USA isn't 'til August, so we can talk about that later. Steel Is Real. Hey, hey. Wait. Hey. Yeah? Yeah? Steel Is Real. Yeah. Yeah. August 28th.
• 29:14
August 28th here in Milwaukee. We finally got the last stop, which I'm not gonna tell you about. [laughs] Happy birthday. But we do finally have the last stop, and- Happy anniversary.
• 29:22
It's my birthday weekend right after... or the other stops. It used to be my birthday weekend. You know what? It's not my birthday weekend anymore. Anybody that wants to get the route ahead of time- Oh, yeah...
• 29:30
can go take a flying leap because- Exactly... it's more fun when, first of all- When you find out where you're going when you get there...
• 29:36
right, and when the people that put the ride together spend weeks and weeks riding the route to curate it so it's a good route. Instead of just- Ah...
• 29:44
blasting somewhere on a crappy road that you don't really wanna be on- Right... just to get to the next place, the journey is really the deal, not the destination so much. Right.
• 29:53
Except for the final destination, which is gonna be kickass. Indeed. [laughs] Oh, and side note, [clears throat] I have news on the Hot Dog Day front. Hot Dog Day. It has transitioned to Wednesdays. Whoa. Yes.
• 30:09
Oh, town, down to The Swinging Door there. Yes. Okay, now we're on fire here. All right. I'm just saying. Are there, are there also Zoom meetings on Wednesdays? Uh- You look like you're on fire. [laughs] No. No, no.
• 30:20
The thing is, in the return to campus plan, uh, I have a half day- On campus up till, oh, I don't know, noon Lunchtime Exactly. Well, no, I'll stay, I'll stick late and then just wait till that lunch rush is over.
• 30:35
Mm-hmm. And then, you know, that 1:30, 2:00 landing zone when all the shittery is gone- Crazy... and then you can just sit there and eat- Just remember-... like a normal human... it's show day, 'cause- Exactly. Oh, no...
• 30:45
that's an early, an early start to show day. That's okay. Yes, sir. You can load that rocket. Oh, no. [laughs] You're, you're, you're, you know, blanketing- Yeah... with a couple of dogs. Well, yeah. I'm cool with that.
• 30:53
I mean, it's not like I'm- I'm cool with that... going in there hot with, like, oh yeah, I wanna like, uh, brr. You could ride around for a couple hours. It could be good. Yeah. It could be good. I like that.
• 31:00
I did it today- I might do that... for God's sakes. I did not know. That's why I know. Wait. Oh, I went to, uh, Casa- Wait, did you go there today and they have hot dogs? I went there today and had a hot dog.
• 31:07
Oh, you son of a bitch. And I, and I only say this with confidence, 'cause I asked Shelly, owner, [laughs] 'cause she was walking around and I'm like, "Um, by the way, is Wednesday now hot dog day?"
• 31:20
She's like, "Yeah, we had to change it to that." And I'm like, "Okay, thank you. That w- that's really all." [laughs] You heard it here first, people. And I'm like, I'm like, "No, you are the owner of establishment."
