Transcript
- 0:20Speaker 1: Hey, everyone, Emily A.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Baddi here coming to you live from the AG studio.
- 0:25Speaker 2: You are listening to five Minute Friday from Hurdle. I
- 0:29Speaker 2: feel like I've got some new listeners in the mix.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Really great turnout earlier this week for the live recording
- 0:35Speaker 2: of Hurdle inside of Hub seventeen at Lululemon. The podcast
- 0:39Speaker 2: is making the rounds. So if you are new to
- 0:42Speaker 2: the show, welcome. You are officially a hurdler. I'm so
- 0:46Speaker 2: happy to have you.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Now. Five Minute Friday on.
- 0:48Speaker 2: The show is a little breezy segment that happens every Friday.
- 0:53Speaker 2: It's a quiggi in which I share a story from
- 0:55Speaker 2: my week with a takeaway that I have for you.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I go ahead and answer a listener question which you
- 1:01Speaker 2: can call and leave me a voicemail to be featured
- 1:04Speaker 2: on the show. The link to do that is in
- 1:07Speaker 2: the show notes. A huge thank you to all the
- 1:08Speaker 2: hurdlers that have been doing that recently. I really appreciate it.
- 1:12Speaker 2: And that's that's the whole shebang. So this week I
- 1:16Speaker 2: want to talk about a commitment that I made on Tuesday.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Now, I feel like I've been rambling.
- 1:21Speaker 2: About how my go to habit of journaling every morning
- 1:25Speaker 2: has been like a little bit lackluster literally for the
- 1:28Speaker 2: past I don't know, three four months, and this week
- 1:32Speaker 2: on Tuesday morning my rule before big events, which obviously
- 1:36Speaker 2: again I had that live show on Tuesday night, it's
- 1:39Speaker 2: twofold one.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I need to journal in the morning.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I need to get out my thoughts like where my
- 1:43Speaker 2: head is at, et cetera, before going into it. And
- 1:46Speaker 2: I also need to sweat in some way. And I
- 1:49Speaker 2: realized come Tuesday morning when I went to go to
- 1:51Speaker 2: my event day ritual of sorts, that it had been
- 1:56Speaker 2: I hadn't journaled since Italy that was almost a month ago.
- 2:00Speaker 2: And I think it's really easy for us to get
- 2:02Speaker 2: frustrated about the things that we're not doing rather than
- 2:07Speaker 2: implement some immediate change. I mean, that's certainly relevant to
- 2:10Speaker 2: everything from starting a fitness routine to eating a certain way.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I know I recently spoke about being in some sort
- 2:18Speaker 2: of a funk, but the reality is is that rather
- 2:22Speaker 2: than giving your energy to being frustrated about something, you
- 2:25Speaker 2: have the opportunity instead to just take some action. So
- 2:28Speaker 2: Tuesday morning, I decided the conscious decision to not judge
- 2:34Speaker 2: my new beginning too harshly, and I committed on Tuesday.
- 2:38Speaker 2: It didn't need to be a full page like I
- 2:41Speaker 2: used to do what felt like effortlessly every day, finishing
- 2:44Speaker 2: that page with a couple of sentences about something that
- 2:47Speaker 2: I'm grateful for that happened in the past twenty four hours. Instead,
- 2:51Speaker 2: I made the decision to, okay, just write something. It
- 2:55Speaker 2: can be a sentence, it can be two sentences. I
- 2:58Speaker 2: really do feel firmly about, or strongly anyway about finishing
- 3:03Speaker 2: whatever that little entry may be, with a little bit
- 3:06Speaker 2: of gratitude, but not sitting there trying to implement what
- 3:12Speaker 2: was and just letting whatever come from my hand on
- 3:16Speaker 2: the pages of my Barren Fig notebook, just letting it
- 3:20Speaker 2: be right that I needed that, I needed that mental
- 3:25Speaker 2: shift to begin again.
- 3:28Speaker 1: And I am proud to report that I have journaled
- 3:33Speaker 1: every day this week.
- 3:34Speaker 2: And I'm kind of digging my new routine, which looks
- 3:38Speaker 2: a little bit different than the old one. And again
- 3:41Speaker 2: that's fine. I know there are so many benefits to
- 3:45Speaker 2: taking some time to reflect. I know the benefits of
- 3:49Speaker 2: being able to articulate the things that you're grateful for,
- 3:51Speaker 2: and I want those benefits.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And when we.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Know what we want, then we have the chance to
- 3:58Speaker 2: implement smart strategies to go after it. And so especially
- 4:03Speaker 2: right now as I feel like I'm really dialing in
- 4:06Speaker 2: on all of these good for me practices, what is
- 4:09Speaker 2: it you know? Nine days out from the New York
- 4:12Speaker 2: City Marathon. I'll uh, I'll take every little bit that
- 4:15Speaker 2: i can get. And so my prompter you this week,
- 4:19Speaker 2: what have you been waiting to start over with? What
- 4:22Speaker 2: are you judging? What are you holding resentment toward? And
- 4:26Speaker 2: can you just release that? What do you want to
- 4:31Speaker 2: start over with? Maybe there's someone you want to start
- 4:34Speaker 2: over with. What's holding you back? And how can you
- 4:37Speaker 2: take some action on that? A SAP and now a
- 4:43Speaker 2: listener question.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Hi, am Lee, this is Amanda quick question and maybe
- 4:49Speaker 3: it's a little too personal, So my apologies ahead of
- 4:52Speaker 3: time of how to deal with awkward holiday situations. Holidays
- 4:58Speaker 3: are coming up and my parent parents are newly separated,
- 5:03Speaker 3: not divorced, but separated, and things are already starting to
- 5:06Speaker 3: get a little awkward, and I just don't know how
- 5:08Speaker 3: to handle the situation. There's a lot of great arguing,
- 5:11Speaker 3: there's a lot of bickering. So do you have any
- 5:13Speaker 3: advice for me and my brother, it would be greatly appreciated.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Love the show.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Thanks, Hey, Amanda, thanks for this question. I feel you
- 5:24Speaker 1: I have.
- 5:25Speaker 2: My parents have been divorced since I was twenty one,
- 5:28Speaker 2: and I am so lucky because they get along great,
- 5:32Speaker 2: They love me unconditionally, They you know, will sporadically get
- 5:36Speaker 2: together with one another. I'm so so grateful to have
- 5:40Speaker 2: two loving, supportive parents. But come the holidays, it definitely
- 5:46Speaker 2: still you know, I'm thirty three now, twelve years later,
- 5:50Speaker 2: it feels as though I wish I could be in
- 5:54Speaker 2: two places at once. I think since they got divorced,
- 5:57Speaker 2: we've done maybe two or three Thanksgivings together, But typically
- 6:02Speaker 2: the holidays, the big ones are spent apart, and that
- 6:06Speaker 2: means that I need to do the best that I
- 6:09Speaker 2: can to spend time with both parents for every holiday.
- 6:15Speaker 2: With Christmas it's a little bit easier because I split
- 6:18Speaker 2: up Christmas Eve as one holiday and Christmas Day as another,
- 6:22Speaker 2: and I have that like down to a science. But
- 6:24Speaker 2: Thanksgiving only lasts for so long. What we have implemented
- 6:28Speaker 2: in our family is every other year I flop for
- 6:32Speaker 2: Thanksgiving dinner, which means that I will be at one
- 6:35Speaker 2: house until around like three in the afternoon, and then
- 6:37Speaker 2: I'll go to the other one until you know, the
- 6:40Speaker 2: following morning. That seems to be the most fair way
- 6:44Speaker 2: for me to divide my time. I have no idea
- 6:46Speaker 2: what I'm going to do when I have another you know,
- 6:49Speaker 2: when I finally have a significant other to bring into
- 6:51Speaker 2: this equation, and we have to take into his family
- 6:54Speaker 2: into account. But what I will say is that just
- 6:58Speaker 2: because you're trying to be diple with how you delegate
- 7:02Speaker 2: your time doesn't mean that feelings aren't going to get hurt.
- 7:05Speaker 2: And the best thing that you can do articulating to
- 7:08Speaker 2: your parents that you love them both and that you're
- 7:10Speaker 2: truly trying to do the best that you can year
- 7:13Speaker 2: after year to show up for everyone and that you
- 7:18Speaker 2: love them each as they are. And it's not easy,
- 7:23Speaker 2: but find some solace in knowing that you're certainly not
- 7:25Speaker 2: the only one who is experiencing this, and that you
- 7:29Speaker 2: have to during this time make sure that you find
- 7:33Speaker 2: small ways to give back to you as well, because
- 7:35Speaker 2: tensions are high and you really are doing the best
- 7:38Speaker 2: you can with what you have, And remember that you know,
- 7:42Speaker 2: remember that you have the best intentions, and these tensions
- 7:46Speaker 2: are high because there is so much love and a
- 7:50Speaker 2: want for your time, So have some grace with yourself,
- 7:54Speaker 2: remember what the holidays are supposed to be about. And
- 7:58Speaker 2: if you need me, I'm only a voicemail away.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I got you. That's it for this week.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Make sure you're following along on social at Hurdle podcast
