Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 2: My name is Trevor Matthews, founder of refrigeration mentor.com. Over the past decade, I've trained tens of thousands of refrigeration technicians and contractors on supermarket refrigeration, and I've seen the same problem across the industry. Technicians are under pressure, second guessing, and getting stuck on jobs too long.
- 0:03For example, a compressor failure on a condensing unit. You can't really test anything if you don't have a, besides some electrical stuff. But besides, you need to get that compressor back in. To really say, okay, the compress, the TX valve has failed. You can't tell the TX valve has failed if you don't have a running system.
- 0:06And you wanna understand, okay, if I change this and the readings improve, what does that mean? And that's the biggest thing. It's like I, I know I do tons of training and I do tons of one-on-ones with technicians and I coach so many businesses and contractors and technicians, and I asked 'em, I asked them the big, the question like, when do you make that phone call?
- 0:09That's it. That's my habit. So for with training, for an example, I am building these habits on helping these technicians build the habits.
- 0:12And then I asked them, what is the termination temperature? If it's electric defrost or Huck gas defrost? And they're like it could be this, it could be like 45, 56, 55. Well, what is it? What does the case mean? They, not a hundred percent sure, but over time you should be getting in the habit that you know this specifically.
- 0:15And some people don't know that they have a screen or not. Is it their fault? No. But it's building the habits to look for this stuff and get the understanding of it so they know it right off the bat. And that's what the training's all about is building habits, learning how to learn. Okay. And what another things that, that's really key, I, I say to growth to be really teaching technicians how to learn.
- 0:18This is really what I really try to push is that you gotta go out in there and teach the stuff that I'm teaching you. ? And I show these little tips and tricks in the program. So e, e examples. So you have, you're losing oil, all the oil's going out. This is, well, what are you gonna do?
- 0:21'cause what looked, you know what? What was looked right, what looked wrong, that's so, so important. After a job's done, this is how you get better. It's called reflection and reflecting on the job. And if you can then explain it to someone else very easily, that's the game changing. ' cause I know I. See so many technicians come in, thousands of technicians came through the Refrigeration mentor program and consistently see those ones that are teaching the other technicians.
