Transcript
- 0:10It's the Predators official podcast here on ESPN1O25, the
- 0:14game streaming on YouTube and wherever you find your favorite
- 0:18podcasts. Brooks Bratton on Nashville
- 0:20predators.com, joined by my friends Max Hurst from Prez
- 0:23Radio and Kara Hammer from Prez TV coming to you for the final
- 0:27episode of January. We're almost into February.
- 0:30We're almost at the Olympic break, but not yet.
- 0:32Still some important hockey to be played.
- 0:34The Preds in the midst of this road trip out east, are getting
- 0:37points in overtime as they try to win the week.
- 0:40Here we'll look back at Roman Yossi's one thousandth NHL game
- 0:44and the celebration that followed.
- 0:46We'll have an interview with Luke Evangelista, fan favorite
- 0:49to talk about his game and some of his favorite teammates this
- 0:52season. Fedor's Fetchkov sent down to
- 0:54Milwaukee. What does all that mean?
- 0:55Plus our big awesome person of the week and a couple of mailbag
- 0:58questions to get to 1st. But Max here we are on this
- 1:01current road trip as we record this on Friday, January 30th on
- 1:05Long Island. The Press have already played
- 1:08two games and the same result, an overtime loss in Boston and
- 1:12overtime loss in New Jersey, both 32 finals.
- 1:16The Press battled back to get a point in Boston, couldn't finish
- 1:19things off in New Jersey. Some good hockey, some so so
- 1:23hockey. But the Preds are still right in
- 1:25the thick of things right now. Max, what say you through these
- 1:28two games on this road trip thus far?
- 1:30Well, the first thing on my mind this week, Brooks, is everybody
- 1:33back in Nashville with all the snow and the ice storm in the
- 1:37winter weather and we feel bad that we're not there to help you
- 1:40guys out. It's probably for the best that
- 1:42the Preds are on the road since home games.
- 1:44Probably not a good idea this week.
- 1:47We are really thinking of everybody.
- 1:48A lot of folks in our team, travelling, party players, our
- 1:51fellow broadcasters are all trying to get their families
- 1:54situated back home, dealing with the same things that you guys
- 1:57are. So we hope that folks have been
- 1:59able to watch or listen to the Preds games this week to get a
- 2:02little bit of normal in their lives during what's been a
- 2:05really, really tough time. And I don't know, I almost feel
- 2:08guilty that we're away, but our friends back at Bridstone are
- 2:11helping out all weekend, opening up the arena to fans to get some
- 2:15food to warm up. And it's, it's really a terrible
- 2:19situation. And I, I wish we were there to
- 2:22be able to help out. But like I said, it's probably
- 2:24for the best that we're not there.
- 2:26I know that's not what you asked me, but.
- 2:28That's. Not more than anything.
- 2:30Yeah, no. Well, so that's a good point.
- 2:32Yeah. It's been a tough week from that
- 2:34standpoint to see some of the images back home.
- 2:36And yeah, you said it, a lot of people and our travelling party
- 2:40who have to be here for work away from their families and and
- 2:44dealing with that sort of thing. So, yeah, like Max said, we hope
- 2:47that you've been able to watch listen to the games.
- 2:51Hopefully you're able to hear this podcast at some point as
- 2:53well and give you a little reprieve to to what's been going
- 2:57on here. So yeah, Max, on the hockey side
- 3:00of things, what do you think what what have been some of your
- 3:03observations as we've gone through Boston and New Jersey so
- 3:06far and getting ready to play the Islanders on Saturday?
- 3:09Yeah, two different games with the same result that got there
- 3:12in very different ways. Both 32 overtime losses for the
- 3:15Preds in Boston on Tuesday. They never LED.
- 3:19They came back to tie the game twice.
- 3:21Roman Yossi scored a power play goal to cut it to two, one at
- 3:25the end of the second and then Nick Blankenberg tied the game
- 3:28in the third. Preds got to overtime, didn't
- 3:30touch the puck in OT, David Poster Knox scored 15 seconds
- 3:34in, lost 3, two and overtime. Then Thursday night against the
- 3:37Devils, they led 1. Nothing early on.
- 3:40They led 2:00 to 1:00, Devils tied up, forced OT and again in
- 3:45the first minute of overtime they give up a goal.
- 3:46So I think most solid efforts from the Preds like the the
- 3:50overtime games have been so good for the Preds recently.
- 3:53They started the season O and four in overtime.
- 3:56Then they won four, three on three overtime games in a row
- 3:59and now they've lost 2 back-to-back.
- 4:01So it I don't know, can you gripe about the way the overtime
- 4:05has gone? I'd never like to be the one to
- 4:07do that, but I think it was 2 solid showings on the road.
- 4:12You really felt like those were winnable games as well.
- 4:16But with the Preds fighting for every point, those overtime loss
- 4:19points do mean something. Kara.
- 4:22Definitely Max. And right now with four games
- 4:25before the Olympic break, they are trying as hard as they can
- 4:29to string something together so they have a little bit of
- 4:32confidence going into the break. And we're going to hear from
- 4:34Luke Evangelista coming up in the show.
- 4:36But he talked about the importance of this stretch of
- 4:38hockey, especially with the trade deadline looming.
- 4:42So Brooks, I think we know that going back to Pred's Wish, there
- 4:46was one or two games where, hey, they might need those extra
- 4:48points because now the question remains, are they buying?
- 4:51Are they telling what's happening and are people going
- 4:55to be able to enjoy their vacation with the trade deadline
- 4:58right around the corner? No, 100%, yeah.
- 5:04So there's, you know, you talk about wanting to collect as many
- 5:07points as possible and they've gotten 2 on this trip so far,
- 5:10both in overtime. I mean, there's no consolation
- 5:12prizes and obviously you want wins, but I don't know, I, I've
- 5:16always looked at it as if you can go on the road and get half
- 5:19of the available points. Like that's still not a bad
- 5:22deal. And Michael McCarron said
- 5:24essentially that is much on Thursday night after the loss in
- 5:28New Jersey, that we're still essentially 500 on the trip.
- 5:31You've gotten 2 points and the win the week mantra is still
- 5:34very much alive. That's what the predators we've
- 5:37we've heard it for that it feels like months now talk about
- 5:39winning the week right? And if they can get two games,
- 5:43three games, depending on how the week goes, then they're
- 5:46going to put themselves in a pretty good position.
- 5:47So that win the week mantra is still very much in play as they
- 5:52head on to Long Island on Saturday night to face Matthew
- 5:55Schaefer and the Islanders. But you mentioned it, Kara, as
- 5:57well as only four games to go before the Olympic break.
- 6:01There's a little, you mention the trade deadline there.
- 6:03So there is a roster freeze during the Olympic break and I
- 6:07there's been some talk around the league like is, is that
- 6:10February 4th when the roster free starts leading into the
- 6:13Olympic break? Will that be kind of like a
- 6:14miniature trade deadline? And you know, we've heard Barry
- 6:17Trotz say on one O 2 five the game recently that you know,
- 6:21there's obviously some tough decisions to make, but maybe not
- 6:25so much before the Olympic break.
- 6:26I think it's going to be very interesting.
- 6:27A lot of teams in different positions coming out of the
- 6:30Olympic break. What do they do, Max, in those
- 6:33few games where all of a sudden you've only got a few games to
- 6:37make a decision? Which direction is your club
- 6:39going? And and for the Predators again,
- 6:42playing some good hockey still like Andrew Burnett said it
- 6:44Thursday night. He said that was a pretty good
- 6:46Rd. game and you get to overtime and it can go either way.
- 6:48I don't know what anybody is supposed to do about Niko
- 6:51Heesher streaking down the wing and a perfectly placed shot to
- 6:54be Eustis on and then on Thursday night in New Jersey.
- 6:57But yeah, a lot of a lot of interesting hockey coming up.
- 7:00And again, it's it feels like a long way away.
- 7:03The trade deadline, it's not till March.
- 7:05We're still in January right now.
- 7:06But considering the amount of actual NHL games until we get to
- 7:10that point, certainly some interesting decisions to come
- 7:13all around the NHL. Yeah, just because there are
- 7:16three weeks without a game doesn't mean the trade deadline
- 7:20isn't still on the 1st Friday of March.
- 7:22It is. It's still on Friday March 6th.
- 7:24So the Preds really don't play a ton between now and then.
- 7:30They've got the four remaining games before the trade deadline
- 7:33and then five games in eight days coming out of it between
- 7:37the end of the Olympics and the start of or the the time of the
- 7:41deadline on Friday, March 6th. So Kara, it's, it's a long
- 7:45spread of time with not a lot of games and every team is fighting
- 7:50for the same thing. We see it every night, no matter
- 7:52who the Preds are playing. Yeah, and I'm surprised neither
- 7:55of you hit the only 28 days in February.
- 7:58So we already know how fast that month is going to fly by.
- 8:01But Brooks, I have to go back to to your mantra of what Bruno has
- 8:04expressed all year. It's when the week and as we
- 8:08record here on January 30th, let's go back to last week
- 8:12because the Preds were winning that week.
- 8:15The captain, Roman Yossi playing in his one thousandth career
- 8:20game. They come back for a major win
- 8:23against Ottawa after being down three goals.
- 8:27Brooks, you've been with the team for I think one or two
- 8:30seasons longer than I. So Max and I talked about this
- 8:33on Smash Bill Live. Mccarran and Cole Smith are the
- 8:364th and 5th longest 10 year preds.
- 8:38Roman yosi #1 so you've been with him the longest.
- 8:41What was it like for you watching the captain #59 play in
- 8:45one play in his one thousandth game?
- 8:51Special I you know, looking back, we had some cool photos of
- 8:55game one and then every 100, so, so on and so forth.
- 8:59And just looking at the photos, I think I've been here since at
- 9:02least 300, maybe a little bit earlier than that.
- 9:06But yeah, like, you know, it was really great.
- 9:09Not only the game itself. And Cara, I want to ask you
- 9:11about what you did during that game in a minute, but the
- 9:14Thursday game. And then he's honored before the
- 9:16game on Saturday against Utah, where they played the tribute
- 9:19video. And he receives his silver stick
- 9:22for the 1000 game mark. And he was getting a little
- 9:26emotional watching that video. I was getting a little emotional
- 9:28watching that video, honestly, because it's.
- 9:30Yeah. You know, you, you mention it
- 9:32like you're around these guys pretty much every day during the
- 9:35hockey season and you know, the games go by and there's 82 a
- 9:40year and you're in the grind and you're in the midst of it.
- 9:43And all of a sudden 1000 games and you look back on it and you
- 9:47think, wow, there have been some amazing moments and some of the
- 9:51coolest moments selfishly of my career and for Roman's career as
- 9:55well. It's just been such a pleasure
- 9:57to cover him. I think one of the my favorite
- 10:00things I've ever been able to do is to write a story on him when
- 10:03he won the Norris Trophy in 2020.
- 10:06And I didn't talk to him for it, but I talked to everybody else,
- 10:09his wife, his parents, his brother, former coaches,
- 10:12teammates. That was so cool to be a part of
- 10:16that. And then just leading up to this
- 10:17as well, I, I mentioned it last week again, but the chance to
- 10:21talk to guys like Shay Weber and Dante Fabbro and Ryan Ellis,
- 10:25guys that have played a lot of minutes over those 1000 games
- 10:28with Roman Yosi. And just to get a sense of, you
- 10:31know, what he meant to them on the ice.
- 10:33And we see that, right? Everybody sees him on the ice
- 10:35and they know what he means to the franchise.
- 10:38But off the ice, it's just as important.
- 10:41And it was just such a pleasure to be able to chronicle that a
- 10:45little bit and play such a small role in it.
- 10:48But really a special weekend. And I know Kara, you got a
- 10:51chance to to speak with his dad, Peter Yossi, who we've gotten to
- 10:55know over the years from the father's trips.
- 10:57And what was that like? Just to be able to spend a
- 10:59little bit of time with his family on an occasion like that.
- 11:02Yeah, it was so special to to go up in the into the suite and be
- 11:06there with Luca and Ivy Romans to two kids.
- 11:10His wife Ellie was there, but his his family was there, his
- 11:13mom and his dad. And I did have a chance to talk
- 11:15to Peter. And one thing that's always been
- 11:17known is Peter sets the alarm and wakes up first thing in the
- 11:20morning to watch Roman's games, being back home in Switzerland.
- 11:24And I said, do you still wake up first thing in the morning?
- 11:27And he goes maybe not all 1000, but I probably watched 900.
- 11:31And but it was really neat to to go back and ask about, you know,
- 11:35Roman being 16 years old playing in Bern, Switzerland.
- 11:38What was it like now watching him playing his one thousandth
- 11:41game and you could just see how proud his dad was.
- 11:43And Brooks, you mentioned it catching up with some of his
- 11:46former teammates. I just hearing from all the guys
- 11:49he used to play with. I mean, Hal Gill was one of his
- 11:52first D partners. And Hal said he remembered Roman
- 11:55drinking chocolate milk after the game.
- 11:57And that's something that stuck with the fans because before
- 12:00that night, we saw people holding up signs in the arena
- 12:03asking Roman if he wanted a chocolate milk.
- 12:05So just to see his his transformation, but Max, you
- 12:10know, he is, he is such a good guy.
- 12:13And I think it goes back to this quote from Scott Hartnell that
- 12:15says he's an NHL player, but he's also a sweetheart.
- 12:19And I think that just exactly encapsulates who who the captain
- 12:24is. Yeah, it was a celebration of
- 12:29epic Smashville proportions, and honestly, I think it was one of
- 12:32the best regular season games in Pred's history.
- 12:34Guys. Like with all of the pageantry,
- 12:37my favorite moment was warmups, everybody coming out and #59
- 12:41with their captain's patches on, even the goalies have the
- 12:44captain's matches on and Yossi on their name plates.
- 12:47So that was awesome. Like an incredible way to start
- 12:49the game. And then from there, it's kind
- 12:52of a normal game until it's not. And it's a special comeback
- 12:56night for Steven Stamkos. The game-winning goal for the
- 12:58hat trick with a minute 13 left. I mean, Brooks, that's got to be
- 13:02up there. Best Preds games of Yossi's
- 13:04tenure regular season, right? Yeah, no, it was up there and I,
- 13:09you know, we we talked about that after the game Thursday and
- 13:11the next day as well. Like, yes, it would have been
- 13:14great all the pomp and circumstance of everything that
- 13:17comes with a milestone like that.
- 13:19But if you lose the game, there's just a little, it's not
- 13:22as good, right? Like you've got to win that game
- 13:24and to not only win it, but to do it scoring 5 unanswered after
- 13:28you went down in a three nothing hole.
- 13:31The hat trick from Steven Stamkos, you could tell how much
- 13:34the guys wanted to win it for him.
- 13:36That was what Andrew Brunette said in the post game that he's
- 13:39like, I've been a lot of a part of a lot of these and this one
- 13:42is up there is probably the most special one thousandth game
- 13:45milestone that he's been a part of.
- 13:47I loved what Brunette said in the morning too.
- 13:49He got asked about, you know, what do you remember about his
- 13:52one thousandth game as a player? He did that, obviously, when he
- 13:54was a player in the NHL. And he said it kind of felt like
- 13:57an obituary because all these people are saying all these nice
- 14:00things about you and you kind of just want to get the day over
- 14:03with. And so Roman that morning kind
- 14:06of made it a point he's like, yeah, I'm really trying to take
- 14:09it all in. And I think he was able to do
- 14:11that. And again, the win just makes it
- 14:15everything even better than it already is.
- 14:18And I wanted to play this clip of Roman about what he'll
- 14:21remember most about that night. Good question.
- 14:29I don't know, I think just the whole day, you know, just the
- 14:34whole day is pretty special. Obviously having my family, my
- 14:37kids in here before the game was, was really cool.
- 14:40And then and just, you know, being around the teammates and,
- 14:43and I think, I think just all the, you know, all the love you
- 14:46get all day, It's it's, it's pretty special.
- 14:47And, and like I said, I'm so grateful, Yeah, to be able to
- 14:51play here for so long. And yeah, I'll remember a lot of
- 14:55things. There's a lot of cool moments
- 14:56today. So there you hear the captain.
- 15:00It was a fantastic moment. And you know, in the grand
- 15:02scheme of things, maybe it's something you look back on even
- 15:05more so when you're done playing and and appreciate it even more.
- 15:08But I I think he was able to really take it in to have his
- 15:12kids there in the room with him reading the line up before the
- 15:14game. That's always such a special
- 15:16moment. And and then just the way that
- 15:18Thursday night played out and into the celebration on Saturday
- 15:21pre game, it was great. And you know, I I selfishly want
- 15:25to give a shout out to the rest of our content team as well with
- 15:28the videos and then the things that appeared on social and we
- 15:32did a lot and it was it was really cool to see it all get
- 15:36out into the open and to have the guys just be a part of
- 15:40everything that that comes with a moment like this.
- 15:42So we hope you, the fans, appreciated everything that came
- 15:46along with that and we're able to celebrate Roman in your own
- 15:49way. But yeah, what a what a moment
- 15:52for the Captain, What a moment for the franchise.
- 15:54And certainly very well deserved for #59 who again, as Scott
- 15:59Hartnell said, he's he's a sweetheart.
- 16:01I think he's, he ranks very highly on any of us that get the
- 16:04chance to cover the team. We all love talking to Roman.
- 16:07So hats off to the Captain. Definitely.
- 16:11And like Stephen Stamko said afterwards, those milestones are
- 16:14always a little bit sweeter when you get 2 points with it.
- 16:18The first Pred ever, 1000 games all for us.
- 16:23Next in line, Philip Forsberg 167 away.
- 16:27So get ready in a couple years for that.
- 16:29But for now, Roman Yossi skates alone.
- 16:33That he does and he's still just so good looking too, right?
- 16:38That doesn't that doesn't hurt either, I think.
- 16:40I think we're all a little bit jealous.
- 16:42But again, Congrats to #59 Speaking of good looking.
- 16:46Up next, we'll chat with Luke evangelista #77 in your
- 16:50programs. Number one in your heart.
- 16:52That is coming up next on the Predators Official Podcast here
- 16:55on ESPN1O25, The Game. Welcome back to the Predators
- 16:59Official Podcast here on ESPN1O25.
- 17:02The game streaming on YouTube and your favorite platforms.
- 17:05I'm Brooks Bratton alongside my friends Max, hers and Kara
- 17:08Hammer. We are pleased to be joined now
- 17:09by number 77 Predators forward Luke Evangelista.
- 17:13We've all got similar backgrounds except for Kara, but
- 17:16the other three of us are on Long Island as the Preds prepare
- 17:20to play the Islanders on Saturday night.
- 17:21But Luke, thanks for joining us. Welcome to the pod.
- 17:25Thanks for having me guys. Of course it's a pleasure and
- 17:28we've all got some questions for you, hard hitting stuff here.
- 17:31So I want to ask you, First off, we're over halfway through the
- 17:35season, 52 games so far for you, 38 points including 31 assists.
- 17:41How are you feeling about your game to this juncture?
- 17:45Yeah, I felt pretty good. I mean, yeah, it's, it's been a
- 17:49good, it's been a good start to the season.
- 17:51I think obviously this was kind of a big year for me coming off
- 17:56of last year. I kind of want to have a bounce
- 17:58back here personally. And I think just as it as the
- 18:00whole squad, you know, we had something to prove this year,
- 18:04you know, personally had something to prove this year.
- 18:06So it's been nice to kind of have that start obviously
- 18:09feeling a little more confidence and kind of finding my stride
- 18:12and being able to take that next step in terms of, you know, the
- 18:15production and the opportunity's been great.
- 18:18I mean, I get to play with some great players.
- 18:19You know, I'm playing with Phil Factor, Stammer, you know, those
- 18:24kind of guys. So they they make it easy out
- 18:26there for you. They're great line mates and you
- 18:28know, it's been great playing with them.
- 18:30I think we've found a little chemistry and like I said, I've
- 18:33just been able to take that next step production wise.
- 18:36So yeah, it's been good. But you just, you know, when
- 18:39that confidence comes, you got it.
- 18:41You got to stick with it and keep rolling with it.
- 18:43So yeah, just looking to do that.
- 18:46Luke, what is it meant for you to claim and solidify your spot
- 18:49in the top 6 this season? Yeah, I mean, that was
- 18:53definitely one of my, you know, personal goals coming in this
- 18:55season just to be a guy that, you know, is relied upon it in
- 19:01that top 6 and, you know, offensively.
- 19:03But it also comes with that, you know, the defensive
- 19:05responsibilities. I think that's a big part of,
- 19:08you know, when you're playing with Factor and Phil and
- 19:10Stammer, like I said, you're going to be line matched against
- 19:13the other teams. You know, top end guys, whether
- 19:17it's the demon or or the forward lines are going to be matched
- 19:20against some pre elite players. So you got to make sure, you
- 19:23know, you're taking care of your defensive responsibilities as
- 19:27well as, you know, try and provide that offensive spark for
- 19:29the team. So I think that's been a good
- 19:31learning curve for me, you know, just making sure I'm solid in
- 19:35all three zones and you know, the staff can rely on me late in
- 19:38games and against top players. So that's all part of play in
- 19:42the top six. It's not, you know, just the
- 19:44offensive production. It's kind of being responsible
- 19:47in, in, in ever since of the game.
- 19:49So that's been a good learning curve for me and I've had a ton
- 19:52of fun with it so far this year. Speaking of Samcos, he he called
- 19:56you the the Dish and Magician. I mean, what are your thoughts
- 20:00on that moniker as you just talked about getting the chance
- 20:02to play with him? Yeah, that's pretty funny.
- 20:06That's pretty special. That's one of those ones where
- 20:10it's like in the moment you just have a laugh about it and then
- 20:13you go home that night and you're like, holy crap.
- 20:16Like Steven Stamkos just said that to me.
- 20:18Like, you know, I, I watched him growing up.
- 20:20He's a legend. Like the guy's got 600 goals,
- 20:231200 points, like, and he's like coming up with those nicknames
- 20:26for me. Like it's one of those things
- 20:27where you go home a night and kind of try and soak that in.
- 20:30Because if you told, you know, 6 year old Luke that he'd be line
- 20:33mates with Steven Stamkos through that Steven Stamkos
- 20:36would be calling him the dish magician.
- 20:37Like I would have a field day with that.
- 20:39So yeah, it's those are the kind of memories that you know, that
- 20:43last long time you just try and soak that stuff in so you're
- 20:46playing for. Luke, for you especially as
- 20:51well, you've got a ton of assists, but your goal against
- 20:54Toronto earlier this season, Hockey Night in Canada, Saturday
- 20:58night at Bridgestone, what do you remember about that moment?
- 21:01And then what were some of the reactions you got afterward?
- 21:04And you got another Hockey Night towel after that, right?
- 21:07That's right. I got 2.
- 21:08I got 2 now. Yeah, that's right.
- 21:10That's right. That was, I mean, that's a
- 21:13pretty special goal just in terms of, you know, being a
- 21:16Toronto kid. I grew up watching the Leafs.
- 21:18I was going to games. I, you know, I, you know, it's
- 21:22Hockey Night in Canada that Saturday night.
- 21:24And I had a bunch of buddies and family, you know, texted me
- 21:27after the game telling me that they're watching.
- 21:29And yeah, I think you could just tell from that goal, you know,
- 21:33the celebration What what a rush that was.
- 21:36And I kind of blacked out there and was losing my mind for a
- 21:38second. But yeah, I mean, that's the
- 21:41kind of stuff that you treat of as a kid.
- 21:42You know, you're playing your hometown team, like you said,
- 21:44Hockey Night in Canada. You know, your your friends and
- 21:48family back home are going to be tuning in.
- 21:49So yeah, those ones are special for sure.
- 21:52That was that was a really cool memory.
- 21:54Probably one of my favorite goals my career.
- 21:58Well Speaking of growing up in in Toronto, I think 6 year old
- 22:00Luke was wearing a Luke Shen jersey back in the day.
- 22:04What did you like about him so much as a player?
- 22:09Yeah, so the reason I got his jersey actually had nothing to
- 22:13do with him as a player. It was more just a Toronto Maple
- 22:15Leaf with the name Luke. I was like, yeah, that's that'll
- 22:18do it for me. So yeah, 1 Christmas, my parents
- 22:22got me a Luke Shen jersey and yeah, kind of like what I
- 22:26suggested was stammer. Like I think being able to play
- 22:30with him like that was my first IHL jersey.
- 22:32And you know, years later we end up being teammates.
- 22:35Like that's one of those things, you know, you try and soak in.
- 22:37And I remember telling my mom that, you know, he he was having
- 22:41me over for dinner and we ended up playing mini 6 me, him and it
- 22:45and his two boys for a couple hours after dinner.
- 22:48And it's like same kind of thing.
- 22:50Like what I said. It's like, you know, you, if you
- 22:52told the seven-year old Luke that he was going to be playing
- 22:54mini 6 with Luke Shannon, you'd be like, get out of here.
- 22:57You know, I was just like, so it's like that's that's what the
- 23:00hockey world brings. It's those kind of memories,
- 23:02those connections. I've been super grateful to play
- 23:05with some guys like that, like, you know, so much into the game.
- 23:07Stammer You know, Shannon, my first jersey.
- 23:11So yeah, super cool memories. I'm super grateful to to have
- 23:14those guys as team mates. Luke, you're also another guy
- 23:20kind of along those lines. Ryan O'Reilly you're often one
- 23:24of the last guys off the ice after practice and so was factor
- 23:28what 1 I guess what are you guys working on when you're out there
- 23:33that long and what is your relationship with him been like
- 23:36as as you've seen it evolve over the last couple of years?
- 23:39Yeah, I, I mean, every time I get asked about Factor, I always
- 23:43say I could, I could sit here and talk, you know, for hours
- 23:46about Factor, what a great person and teammate he is in
- 23:49terms of what we're working on after practice.
- 23:51He, he's literally like having another coach out there on the
- 23:54ice. Like he's got so much knowledge.
- 23:56He's got so many drills. Like it's not one specific thing
- 23:59we're working on. Like sometimes we're working on,
- 24:02you know, different puck touches.
- 24:04Sometimes we're working on our releases deflections.
- 24:06Like it's, it's a whole mixed bag sort of stuff that he's got
- 24:09drills for after practice for us.
- 24:12And I think early on, like when your team mates with him, you
- 24:16kind of realize like, OK, like this is a guy like you want to
- 24:19follow like, like he's, he's a good leader.
- 24:22He's he's a good role model, like, you know, following his
- 24:25footsteps and, you know, you're going to your game's going to
- 24:28transition. And yeah, I just think our
- 24:32relationship, like, like I said, he's just got so much knowledge
- 24:36and experience and he's been so good to, you know, as a, as a
- 24:41teammate for all of us. I think for us young guys, like
- 24:43you see after practice, like it's 56 young guys and, and him
- 24:47just, you know, doing his drills, like we all kind of, you
- 24:49know, look up to him in that sense.
- 24:51And you know, he, he's all playing with him now too.
- 24:55Like he's always talk to me on the bench.
- 24:57We're always talking about the game.
- 24:58Like, you know, he, he, he's always got, you know, those
- 25:01little tips and tricks, you know, for us to work off of.
- 25:05So he's been, he's been a fantastic teammate, great line
- 25:08mate. I mean, you can't ask for much
- 25:10more a teammate. So it's it's been a pleasure to
- 25:12play with him. Luke, we talk about you coming
- 25:15up through and seeing all these veterans, so many of the guys
- 25:18that you played with as a teenager or in the NHL now too.
- 25:21What's it like seeing them and matching up against some of your
- 25:24closest friends from junior like Connor McMichael on the Caps,
- 25:27Alec Regula on the Oilers, who we've all seen recently?
- 25:31Yeah, it's funny. It's it's definitely funny.
- 25:33You know, when you're looking at the lineup sheet pregame and you
- 25:36see, you know, old teammates, you know, I've had, you know,
- 25:41there's, there have been guys have been playing against since
- 25:43I was like 7-8 years old. Now that we're all playing
- 25:47together in the NHL. So it's it's been a cool, it's
- 25:52been a cool road to this point. I guess you could say, you know,
- 25:55there's guys that like you said, I played in junior with, I
- 25:58played minor hockey against or with, you know, I train with in
- 26:01the summer. It's it's kind of cool like, you
- 26:04know, building those connections and those relationships are in
- 26:06the league and, you know, just following those guys in their
- 26:09own path. You know, everyone's kind of
- 26:12everyone's rooting for each other.
- 26:13You know, it's you meet so many great people in hockey, as I've
- 26:17said, you know, a bunch of easy guys to root for.
- 26:20And like you said, like McMichael, I lived with in
- 26:23junior for three years. He was, he was great to me, You
- 26:25know, when we were living together and, you know, early on
- 26:28in junior, I was going through a hard time and he had kind of
- 26:31been in my in my shoes the the year before.
- 26:33And so, you know, it's that kind of stuff that you remember, you
- 26:37always want to cheer for those guys.
- 26:38And even, you know, former teammates in the NHL like
- 26:40Stasney on when we play Edmonton, like another great
- 26:43human being, you know, you're always cheering for those guys.
- 26:46So, so yeah, it's it's it's been fun to follow along in their
- 26:49careers and their past. And, you know, you always want
- 26:52to cheer for good people. So you're always happy for them.
- 26:59So Luke, what has impressed you most about your team this
- 27:03season? Obviously it didn't start off
- 27:06the way you wanted to, but you guys are in the hunt what I
- 27:10guess kind of collectively has allowed your group to be able to
- 27:13find their game and and obviously still very much in it
- 27:17here as we approach the Olympic break.
- 27:20Yeah, I think, I think the first thing that comes to mind for me
- 27:24is, is just the resiliency of the group.
- 27:27Like you said, it wasn't it wasn't an ideal start again.
- 27:30And you know, it kind of, you know, it creeps into the back of
- 27:33your mind like, oh boy, like this.
- 27:35Maybe it's just starting to feel like last year a little bit.
- 27:37But I think for us to like kind of bounce back from that and not
- 27:41give in to that and, and get the train back on the tracks, you
- 27:45know, get, get the boat back in the water and, you know, just
- 27:48start paddling the right way. I think, you know, we've we've
- 27:50made tremendous ground and you know, like you know, like I
- 27:55said, they're still we're still not at our goal yet.
- 27:57We're not quite in that playoff spot that we're we're gunning
- 28:00for. So we got, we still got some
- 28:01room to go, but I think just the claw back into this, to be in
- 28:06this situation right now, be in the fight.
- 28:09I think you see it in games too. I think numerous times, you
- 28:12know, we, we've gone down early, which is not ideal.
- 28:15It's something we're, we're definitely trying to work on.
- 28:16But I think just the ability to, to battle back and, you know,
- 28:21find ways to scrap up points, get 2 points.
- 28:23You know, that Ottawa game at home a couple weeks ago comes to
- 28:26mind. Just that feeling you have from
- 28:29clawing back as a group and getting those points, like I
- 28:32think that's something to really build off of.
- 28:34So I think that resiliency is kind of the first thing that
- 28:36comes to mind. I know the team is trying to end
- 28:41on a strong note before you guys head into the Olympic break, but
- 28:45what are your plans for the break?
- 28:47And you know, what are you guys talking about as you as you hit
- 28:51the stretch of the season? Yeah, I think we talked, we've
- 28:58talked about a few times, I think these last handful of
- 29:01games are really important for us going in the break cuz you
- 29:04know, you come back from the break and it's, I think it's
- 29:06like only two or three games until the trade deadline when,
- 29:09you know, stuff really starts going down.
- 29:11So our, our job is to and our goal is to put ourselves in the
- 29:16best position possible is going into that, you know, be as close
- 29:20in the fight as possible, you know, be, be right in the
- 29:23gunning for that spot. So it is a crucial time of the
- 29:27year for us. I think we all understand that
- 29:29we we're trying to scrap our points as best as we can.
- 29:32And like I said, stay in that fight so that, you know, when we
- 29:36come out on the other side of that break, we're, you know,
- 29:38we're in a spot where we're still battling.
- 29:39We're not out of it. And yeah, we leave ourselves in
- 29:42a spot where we we can still make the playoffs and have that
- 29:45belief. Luke, thanks for doing this.
- 29:49Keep working hard these last few games.
- 29:51My pleasure. Thank you guys.
- 29:53That's Pred swinger Luke Evangelista back with more after
- 29:56this on the Predators Official Podcast.
- 29:58Welcome back to the Predators Official Podcast here on
- 30:01ESPN1O25, The game, Nashville Predators, YouTube and your
- 30:05preferred podcast platforms. My name is Max hers from Preds
- 30:09Radio along with my two best friends in the universe.
- 30:12Except no substitutes. Tara Hammer from Predators DV
- 30:16and Brooks Bratton from nashvillepredators.com.
- 30:19Thanks to the pretty boy Luke Evangelista for joining us in
- 30:22the last segment. Always fun to talk to him about
- 30:25everything going on in his hockey universe.
- 30:28And like I, I just love the way that he understands his place.
- 30:33Like he, he loves being around these veterans.
- 30:35He knows he's the young guy. He knows that every day is a
- 30:38blessing. And the reverse side of it is he
- 30:40takes a lot of crap from his veteran teammates too.
- 30:43And boy does he take it all in stride.
- 30:45Like an absolute champ. I think the only thing we missed
- 30:51there, Max, was after we hosted Smashville Live, you asked about
- 30:55the Preds best duos and your number one choice was Cole
- 30:59Smith, Michael McCarron. But you had Bange and
- 31:01Blankenberg a close second. So we may have to do a little
- 31:04follow up here and see if he thinks they're in second place
- 31:07here or if him and blinks are actually #1.
- 31:10Yeah, I really should have asked because to be honest with you,
- 31:13they are my number one. But I wasn't going to say that
- 31:16while Cole Smith and Michael McCarron were around.
- 31:20They're a little taller, a little bigger than you.
- 31:23Yeah. Well, we'll have to save it for
- 31:28next time. Always leaving you guys hanging
- 31:30here on the POP. We have a couple of Milwaukee
- 31:33Admirals related topics to talk about here in this segment.
- 31:37First up, the Predators made a transaction on Thursday morning.
- 31:40Feder Svechkov, who had been in the NHL the entire season until
- 31:44then, sent back down to AHL Milwaukee.
- 31:47We had the chance to ask head coach Andrew Brunette in our in
- 31:50our pregame interview on Preds Radio about the reasoning and
- 31:53the timing of Svechkov going down.
- 31:56Well, I think it's just a good opportunity for him to get some
- 31:58games in before the Olympic break, play some big minutes,
- 32:01get get some confidence back in his game, have the puck a lot
- 32:03more, feel better about it. You know, he's and inconsistent
- 32:07for us this year. He's had some really flash, good
- 32:09flashes of of play and then he just had trouble sustaining it.
- 32:13So I think it's a great opportunity as a young player,
- 32:15go play big minutes, get on the power play, touch the puck, feel
- 32:17good and we'll see him again here this year.
- 32:21Brooks it it seems fair. What do you think about
- 32:25Brunette's explanation and the timing?
- 32:27First fetch gob to go back. Yeah, I don't I don't know that
- 32:31anybody was overly surprised. It it hasn't been an easy season
- 32:34for Fetchy. He made the team out of training
- 32:37camp, but it's been a struggle. I mean, 9 points and 47 games,
- 32:41you obviously hope for more. And you know, from a personal
- 32:44perspective, like he's such a good kid.
- 32:46You don't want to see anybody, you know, not doing well on the
- 32:50ice, But he's he needs to go down and get his game back.
- 32:53I mean, you heard brunette say it.
- 32:55Go down, play some big minutes, get some confidence, get on the
- 32:58power play, because obviously he's a great player.
- 33:00We know that. We've seen flashes of that.
- 33:03But it just has not gelled this season so far in the end at the
- 33:07NHL level. So I think this will be good for
- 33:10him. You know, we've seen it with
- 33:11other guys too. They'll go down, come back up
- 33:14and they're a whole new player, right.
- 33:15And so I, you know, this wasn't ideal is wasn't part of the plan
- 33:19at the beginning of the season. But at this juncture, I think
- 33:23it's the right move. And again, you know, we talked
- 33:25about in the first segment with the Olympic break coming up.
- 33:27And we've mentioned as well, like there are certain guys
- 33:30that, you know, if you want them to play in the AHL, you need to
- 33:32assign them beforehand. So perhaps they can spend the
- 33:35breakdown. They're playing What remains to
- 33:37be seen what will happen with Fetch Cow.
- 33:40But I do think obviously it was good that Brunette said at the
- 33:43end there as well. We'll see him again here this
- 33:45year. This is not something where we
- 33:47expect to to be banished for the rest of the season in Milwaukee.
- 33:51We certainly expect to see Fedor's fetch cop at some point
- 33:55this season. And, and we'll be excited to see
- 33:58him back because we know that what he can do with this NHL
- 34:00level and he's he's certainly got that in his game.
- 34:03So all the best dispatch as he heads back down there and we'll
- 34:06look forward to seeing him back here and and putting the puck in
- 34:08the net again sometime soon. Well the the Olympic break piece
- 34:12of this brooks is that Svechkov will still get his NHL mandated
- 34:18Olympic break. So that means if he is still
- 34:20with the Admirals by that time, he will not be able to play in
- 34:23three games on February 7th, February 14th and February 15th.
- 34:28All three of those games are against Rockford, but he will
- 34:33still get his NHLCBA mandated by week, which is the 1st 9 days of
- 34:39the Olympic break. If he is still in the AHL by
- 34:41then, he will be able to play in the AHL in the games starting
- 34:45February 18th and onward if my understanding of the CBA is
- 34:49correct. But based on how long he had
- 34:51been in the NHL, which was as long as possible because he'd
- 34:54been in the league the entire season, the CBA guarantees him
- 34:57that NHL player time off. Which, as we had talked about on
- 35:01last week's show, talk about Reed Schaefer, you can't just
- 35:04send everyone who is eligible to go to the AHL back to the AHL
- 35:08the day before the Olympic break.
- 35:10And nobody ever gets a break. So that's why those rules exist.
- 35:14And guys have vacations planned too.
- 35:15You can't just wipe everybody out and say no beach for you,
- 35:19which regardless of how your NHL season's been going, if you've
- 35:22played 47 games in the NHL, you deserve a little bit of a break.
- 35:25So yeah, good call out there. And and we'll see how that plays
- 35:28out. First fetch.
- 35:30Sticking with our friends up in Milwaukee, they played their
- 35:33first ever outdoor game in Milwaukee Admirals franchise
- 35:37history last week. And it wasn't just the first
- 35:41outdoor game for the Admirals ever, it was also the coldest
- 35:45professional outdoor hockey game in the history of America.
- 35:51So Congrats to the Milwaukee Admirals, who won the coldest
- 35:55outdoor hockey game in the history of America, three to two
- 35:59in overtime against the Iowa wild -8°F breaking the previous
- 36:06record of -6 at the Winter Classic in Minnesota a few years
- 36:10ago, which was crazy cold. This game was in Hastings, MN at
- 36:15the Hockey Day and Minnesota rink.
- 36:17So is the Iowa Wild, the Wilds affiliate against the Milwaukee
- 36:21Admirals. And the Admirals came back to
- 36:24win three to two. Zach LaRue scored the walk off
- 36:27winner in overtime on a memorable day.
- 36:30And our friend Aaron Sims, Admirals broadcaster, called the
- 36:34entire game outdoors. The Athletic did a cool profile
- 36:38on the event, but Aaron was saying that the setup and they
- 36:42had kind of like a makeshift tent.
- 36:44The the broadcast booth was taken up by TV folks.
- 36:48He's on the radio and the tent that they had set up, he's like,
- 36:51I can't be in here. I can't even see out the window.
- 36:54It was so fogged up and it was blurry and couldn't see the
- 36:57numbers. So he had to step outside and
- 36:59then it was so cold. There were generators failing
- 37:01that were running his equipment. He actually called it, called
- 37:04the game on his cell phone for a period of time in the second
- 37:07period. But he's a champ.
- 37:10He got it in. He said he would do it again
- 37:12100%. But I think you'll learn a few
- 37:14things of what works, what doesn't work.
- 37:17But the electric parka seem to be doing wonders because I don't
- 37:20know, Max, like you call games. I don't know, would you want to
- 37:22be out there and -8° I feel like your your jaw and your lips
- 37:26might freeze up a little bit. Yeah, I've been outside before
- 37:30for some cold football games and some cold early season college
- 37:36baseball games with the windows open out of the press box.
- 37:39Definitely not -8 that's for sure.
- 37:41Maybe 20 or 30 was as low as I got.
- 37:45Yeah, that was I was listening to Aaron Sims called the game on
- 37:48on Fox Sports Radio in Milwaukee for portions of it.
- 37:51First of all, if he was using his phone, it didn't sound like
- 37:54it. The audio quality was great.
- 37:56So props to all of our producers up there at the Admirals Radio
- 37:59team for making that sound good in what was a crazy situation.
- 38:03He did a great job calling the game sounded the same as he
- 38:06would inside, which is a major credit to Aaron.
- 38:09And then at the end of the game I was listening to the post game
- 38:11show and it comes back and says time for your out of town scores
- 38:15on the Milwaukee Admirals post game show.
- 38:17And the music is going and Aaron just comes back and says, well
- 38:20my computer is frozen so no scores today.
- 38:22I'm like yes, I love that so much.
- 38:26It was so cold. So the perfect way to sum it up.
- 38:29Hey, Congrats to the ads on the win.
- 38:31Ryder Ralston, Oasis Wiseblatt and Zach LaRue with the goals.
- 38:35Matt Murray and Net go ads go. Well done to the ads, well done
- 38:40to Aaron Simms and best of luck to fetch in Milwaukee.
- 38:44We will certainly see him back up here soon.
- 38:46We will be back in just a moment to wrap things up, bring you the
- 38:49biggie awesome person or persons of the week and get to a couple
- 38:53of your questions. That's next year on the Pres
- 38:55Official Podcast on ESPN 1025 The Game.
- 39:00Welcome back into the Predators official podcast.
- 39:02I'm Carrie Hammer along with Max, hers and Brooks Bratton.
- 39:05And guys, we talked about it, Roman Yosi, his one thousandth
- 39:09game. And what a special moment it
- 39:10was. So our Big E awesome person of
- 39:13the week is going out to not only Roman, but the entire Yosi
- 39:17family because how cute were Luke and Ivy and sitting on
- 39:22their mom Ellie's lap saying go #59 So shout out to Roman's
- 39:26parents who flew all the way over from Switzerland.
- 39:28His brother was here, this was it takes a whole family.
- 39:32It takes a whole village to get to 1000 games.
- 39:34So our biggie, awesome person of the week, Roman Yossi and family
- 39:39Max. My addendum to that award, Kara,
- 39:43is the day of his one thousandth game.
- 39:46Thursday afternoon I went on the Chasing Big Joe Show radio show
- 39:51and Big Joe and Nick Frazier. We're doing the show in the Omni
- 39:55at bar lines, great friends of Bridgestone Arena and of one O 2
- 39:59five the game. So I go on, I'm on the show for
- 40:02I think half an hour, 45 minutes, talking about Roman
- 40:05Yosi the entire time. I take my headset off at the end
- 40:08of the segment, I look to the right and here comes Roman's dad
- 40:11walking right by, and his dad, brother and sister-in-law are
- 40:15eating. In bar lines right around the
- 40:18corner from where we were and presumably heard the entire
- 40:20segment. But don't worry, I was very
- 40:22complimentary as usual, especially on such a special
- 40:26day. But yeah, hey, the Yossi's are
- 40:27everywhere is the moral of the story.
- 40:32You're never sure. You better look over your
- 40:34shoulder when you're thinking of saying something bad about
- 40:36Roman. But who says anything bad about
- 40:37Roman? Come on.
- 40:39That's a good way to wrap up the UOC love.
- 40:43Which again, what a moment it was, what a pleasure it was to
- 40:46be around and just to be a part of that.
- 40:49So Max, I want to ask you, we got a couple questions in the
- 40:52mailbag, which maybe you can shed a little light on this or
- 40:55if not, we can do some more research.
- 40:56But Rick's Rick mentioned that Max talked about what gifts the
- 41:01Preds players were getting Roman for his one thousandth game.
- 41:05He was wondering who on the team decides what they are getting.
- 41:07Is it a committee? Is it players who reached that
- 41:09milestone? I again, I know you mentioned it
- 41:13last week, some of the gifts, but do you have any more
- 41:15insights in that regard or do we need to do some research?
- 41:18Well, Ryan O'Reilly was kind enough to share on the morning
- 41:21of that the first two gifts that the team got together and bought
- 41:25for Roman Yossi were a limited edition custom watch by Swiss
- 41:30watchmaker Nor Kane, which Roman Yossi endorses.
- 41:33And they got them to Commission a special watch for him for 1000
- 41:37games. So that was a very fitting one.
- 41:40And then also, since Roman is a huge tennis fan, they got him
- 41:43and his family VIP tickets for the US Open coming up at the end
- 41:47of this summer. So those were the first two
- 41:50gifts. Ryan O'Reilly says there will be
- 41:53more that are coming at a more formal team get together, which
- 41:56I don't believe has happened yet.
- 41:59It maybe was scheduled for last weekend.
- 42:01But if it was scheduled for last weekend, it didn't happen
- 42:04because of the snow. So I, I think the leadership
- 42:07group minus COC, of course, who is the recipient probably
- 42:11organizes that. And I don't know who's in charge
- 42:14of collecting money now. It was always Colton Sissons
- 42:16running the kangaroo court forever and obviously Colton
- 42:20Sissons no longer on the Preds. So Rick, that is the best answer
- 42:23I can give you. And we'll see if we find out
- 42:26what the rest of the gifts are at some point down the road.
- 42:28But 1000 games you're in yourself, some good presents.
- 42:32We do know that he got a silver stick from the presentation and
- 42:35Ivy and Luca also got little miniature silver sticks.
- 42:39So don't forget the kids. You can't you can't be given dad
- 42:43all the presents. The kids have to get something.
- 42:45So good for them to get involved in in the gift giving there, Tia
- 42:50said. While watching the game against
- 42:52Boston. I thought of a conversation my
- 42:54dad and I had recently about why when players leave the game due
- 42:58to injury, the team cannot then dress one of their healthy
- 43:01scratches to take their place. And I was curious about your
- 43:04overall take on the topic. It's, it's honestly a good
- 43:07question. I I think, correct me if I'm
- 43:10wrong. So football, someone gets hurt,
- 43:12someone else can come in. Baseball, someone else comes in
- 43:15basketball is someone I can people, people can come off the
- 43:18bench, right. So I, you know, I, I think in
- 43:22that regard, it's with hockey, obviously there's people coming
- 43:25off the bench, but you're not dressing one of your healthy
- 43:28scratches. I don't know.
- 43:29I, I'm, I guess I'm kind of indifferent to it.
- 43:32I think the tough thing about that is often times, especially
- 43:36if like somebody were to get hurt later in the game, the
- 43:39healthy scratches are often already showered and dressed and
- 43:43they're up in the press box watching the game.
- 43:46So you can't just immediately have a guy jump on the ice.
- 43:49They're not sitting there ready to come in even if that was an
- 43:53option. So I don't know.
- 43:55Do you guys have any thoughts on that?
- 43:56I like, I think that that's, it makes for some cool stories
- 44:00sometimes. Like if a if a guy does get hurt
- 44:03during a game, like, oh, you were down to 11 forwards or 10
- 44:06forwards or five defensemen, How did you rally and push through
- 44:10that? It kind of makes for a cool
- 44:12story sometimes in that regard. But I don't know.
- 44:14What do you guys think? Should players be allowed to be
- 44:18dressed if they're a healthy scratch after the fact?
- 44:23I think it's an interesting topic, especially when we're
- 44:26talking about forwards and defenseman.
- 44:27And then you look at the E bug situation.
- 44:30I mean, you already only have one backup goalie it it who has
- 44:34not warmed up, not played, sometimes just thrown right into
- 44:38the situation. He may have even played the
- 44:39night before back on the ice. But then you have Joe Schmo down
- 44:44the street who's playing and it's the boys league hockey
- 44:48hockey game who might be the E bug who comes in.
- 44:51But I think they have made some adjustments there, right?
- 44:54I believe now teams can travel an E bug.
- 44:58Is that am I correct here or am I just making something up that
- 45:01I maybe read online? Next season.
- 45:07Next season. See, I know a little bit about
- 45:10what I'm talking. About here, No, you're right.
- 45:14That'll be a thing next season. And that's kind of to eliminate
- 45:17kind of that, which again makes for some great stories.
- 45:21The E bugs. We all remember David Ayers with
- 45:23the Maple Leafs, who is the Maple Leafs E bug came in for
- 45:26the Hurricanes. He's essentially A Zamboni
- 45:27driver a few years ago, came in, won the game.
- 45:31I'm thinking of another gentleman in Chicago, I think
- 45:33was an accountant by day, ended up being the E bug by night.
- 45:37Another guy actually went to high school with Parker Milner,
- 45:40who was a national champion at Boston College, flew out to
- 45:45Anaheim just this season to be the backup for the Washington
- 45:49Capitals for a game and and got that rookie lap and everything
- 45:52that comes with that. Didn't get into the game, but
- 45:54still got that experience regardless.
- 45:56The league is kind of trying to eliminate that.
- 45:58So yes, they are going to start letting someone essentially be a
- 46:02full time E bug, but practice with the team, travel with the
- 46:05team. So you especially on the the
- 46:07road, you eliminate the opportunity for someone who, you
- 46:12know, for example, somebody who lives here on Long Island, all
- 46:16of a sudden comes in, you don't know the guy who's coming in
- 46:19cold, that sort of thing. You can have a guy with your
- 46:22club and and that's kind of the reasoning behind that is just
- 46:26just to have someone who's around all the time.
- 46:28But yeah, I'm going to kind of miss the E bug stories because I
- 46:31don't think we're going to really get them anymore.
- 46:33But no, that's that's a good point.
- 46:35And that's something else that the league has has definitely
- 46:38thought of. But I don't know, I feel like
- 46:40you dressed 20 guys a game, 18 skaters, 12 forward, 6
- 46:43defencemen. That's kind of what you get.
- 46:46And and Tia has as a follow up, she said while listening to
- 46:49Willie and Mace, they they briefly mentioned one of the
- 46:52defencemen possibly filling in as a forward is a louder.
- 46:56Is it a situational based scenario?
- 46:58So you can for sure. We've seen it rarely, but I
- 47:01think years ago we saw Tony Bitetto play wing a little bit.
- 47:05We've seen Kelly yarn Croke, former Preds forward, go back as
- 47:09a defenseman just because he's such a smart player and is
- 47:12capable of doing that. Not all guys are capable of
- 47:15that. I think that's another thing is
- 47:17that, sure, I mean, in a pinch, surely somebody could fill in,
- 47:22but you know, no offense to most of the forwards, but I don't
- 47:25think you want to throw them back there as a defenseman.
- 47:27It's it's a little bit different if you're not doing it every
- 47:30night. So yes, that is allowed, but
- 47:32it's not ideal. Well, we've seen Nick
- 47:36Blankenberg do it this year. He played it a little bit of
- 47:39even strength forward early in the season and he's played a ton
- 47:43of penalty kill forward. The Preds have killed a lot of
- 47:45penalties with three defensemen and one forward on the ice and
- 47:49it's been fun to watch. It's kind of like this little
- 47:51oddity and Blankenberg is great at it because he can use the
- 47:55best pieces of his defenceman game and also some of the
- 47:58forward game. He was a forward for the 1st
- 48:001819 years of his life before he got to college hockey and was
- 48:03moved to defenceman so anyone can play wherever they want.
- 48:06It's always fun to see guys come out of the penalty box and try
- 48:09and fit in at the opposite position.
- 48:11So I think there are actually probably more guys who could do
- 48:15it then get a chance to do it. But I mean, you're not probably
- 48:19not NHL level at the other position, but not anybody can go
- 48:23wherever they want as long as they're not offside.
- 48:27Exactly. Yes, stay on side Nick
- 48:29Blankenberg. And with that, we thank you for
- 48:32listening to another edition of the Preds official podcast and
- 48:35watching us on YouTube. Of course, for Kara Hammer and
- 48:39Max hers, I am Brooks Bratton. Four more games to go before the

- 48:53final episode before the Olympic break.
