- 0:21Speaker 2: Wow, yours what a weekend?
- 0:27Speaker 3: And Okay see Hunters Arberniki Austin Rose to code to
- 0:31Speaker 3: free tag.
- 0:32Speaker 2: It's not a dream, fellas, it's reality.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Nebraska is in the sweet sixteen and we'll face the
- 0:40Speaker 3: hiawa Hawkeys of all team to go to the Early Day.
- 0:44Speaker 3: I it's unbelievable. It's the craziest week weekend of my
- 0:51Speaker 3: hus my sports life.
- 0:53Speaker 2: I gotta see both of you, one of each for
- 0:56Speaker 2: each game there.
- 0:57Speaker 3: You made the trip to Okay see and I don't
- 1:00Speaker 3: even know where to start.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Just an incredible.
- 1:05Speaker 4: Weekend one, I would say, as far as Husker events won. Okay,
- 1:13Speaker 4: we'll get your opinion here. Two hundred DAK you can
- 1:15Speaker 4: hop in again with in Oklahoma.
- 1:18Speaker 5: Well, well, I'm not sure. My my nuts have still
- 1:20Speaker 5: dropped down for my throat from him. That guy's freaking
- 1:22Speaker 5: half pork shot. I'm still not sure that thing didn't
- 1:26Speaker 5: go in.
- 1:27Speaker 6: Okay, your throat.
- 1:29Speaker 3: That's great.
- 1:30Speaker 6: Hunter.
- 1:31Speaker 4: You were at both games, uh the atmosphere game one,
- 1:34Speaker 4: which I was at.
- 1:35Speaker 6: DAK was at game two. I'm assuming game two is
- 1:39Speaker 6: better than game one because it's a Saturday night game.
- 1:42Speaker 6: Would that be a correct statement.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Yes, in the way I mean the whole experience of
- 1:50Speaker 3: Saturday obviously ended up being better.
- 1:55Speaker 6: Is that because of the game being a better game.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I would not say that I would a night.
- 2:01Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I mean, if we want to compare the two, both
- 2:04Speaker 3: were incredible Thursday.
- 2:06Speaker 6: You know what I missed out on, You know, that's
- 2:08Speaker 6: what you missed out.
- 2:09Speaker 3: A lot, I mean a lot whatever that I mean,
- 2:13Speaker 3: the end of the game and that the post game celebration,
- 2:16Speaker 3: all of that stuff was best in the lifetime ever
- 2:19Speaker 3: as a Husker fan, any sporting event. But well, what
- 2:22Speaker 3: I'm saying is the game itself, like that Troy game,
- 2:25Speaker 3: we did like we cheered every possession because we just
- 2:28Speaker 3: kicked their ass the whole time.
- 2:29Speaker 7: So like.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Moments where you're like, like the kind of we kind
- 2:35Speaker 3: of had to get the crowd rejuvenated a couple of
- 2:37Speaker 3: times like that happened in that Bandy game, and there
- 2:40Speaker 3: was a lot of booing of the refs, which I
- 2:43Speaker 3: may or may not have participated in.
- 2:45Speaker 2: But the the whole.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Encompassing of Saturday was by far the best day of
- 2:53Speaker 3: my Husker sports life.
- 2:54Speaker 4: That's I was gonna that was my follow up because
- 2:56Speaker 4: I'd say it was mine. It was game one, was
- 2:59Speaker 4: probably my favorite Husker sporting experience, and we killed them.
- 3:02Speaker 4: There was a thirty points.
- 3:03Speaker 2: And that's day number two.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Thursday was the number two of my husband's sport life.
- 3:07Speaker 6: So, Dak, would you like to add for Saturday.
- 3:12Speaker 5: You know, we've we've been saying a lot this year.
- 3:14Speaker 5: I mean, Hunter, we went to the Oklahoma game. We
- 3:17Speaker 5: said that was the best game we've ever been to
- 3:18Speaker 5: for basketball wise. Then we went to the freaking Mission
- 3:20Speaker 5: State game, which I still think Oklahoma was better than that,
- 3:23Speaker 5: but we said that was up there the best game
- 3:24Speaker 5: they've been to. This one, this Saturday game, by fall.
- 3:27Speaker 5: I don't think there'll be anything concert anything in my life.
- 3:31Speaker 7: I'll go to that.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I was better than that until Thursday against Iowa.
- 3:35Speaker 6: Until Thursday against Yeah.
- 3:37Speaker 4: We're including all sports, correct, you're not talking Yeah, easily,
- 3:42Speaker 4: I agree.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I get.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I mean just fun home football games that I've been to.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Yeah, a few. There's been little to none road games
- 3:52Speaker 3: i've been too that have been that have ended this
- 3:55Speaker 3: way too. There've been some fun atmospheres, don't get me
- 3:57Speaker 3: wrong from the road environment standpoint, but this was just
- 4:00Speaker 3: all of it on steroids. Me no, Colahoma game was
- 4:03Speaker 3: great up in Swoit Falls, and that was incredible, Like
- 4:05Speaker 3: I like, there's nothing like this.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Well this was that, Like just take that time five because.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Of the arena size and the takeover it. It just
- 4:14Speaker 3: it's hard to even describe and explain, especially our age,
- 4:19Speaker 3: when we you know, we didn't live any of the
- 4:22Speaker 3: of the glory football days in the in the nineties
- 4:24Speaker 3: where you know, this was these kind of moments, not
- 4:28Speaker 3: to say they happened often, but there were just these
- 4:33Speaker 3: things that were really good, Like we haven't lived that.
- 4:36Speaker 3: This is the first time in our life that we're like,
- 4:38Speaker 3: you got to celebrate like this.
- 4:40Speaker 2: And because of something really good that happened.
- 4:43Speaker 6: Well, So I went down. I actually wrote down with
- 4:45Speaker 6: my father in law's cousin.
- 4:46Speaker 4: So I wrote down with the sixty three year old
- 4:49Speaker 4: for the Thursday game and he's he said, there was
- 4:53Speaker 4: probably a top three Husker event they's ever been too.
- 4:55Speaker 4: And he went he said Collge World Series when the
- 4:58Speaker 4: Huskers made it.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Yeah, he was.
- 5:00Speaker 4: He was at that, and he was also at the
- 5:01Speaker 4: Miami Orange Bowl Championship game. And he's like, it's right
- 5:06Speaker 4: up there with those two.
- 5:07Speaker 6: And I was like, damn and you've been doing He's
- 5:09Speaker 6: been doing a lot of games. It was crazy.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I don't, I don't, I guess, I don't even know.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I think the best way to do this podcast is
- 5:19Speaker 3: just kind of like recap my week. I guess I'll
- 5:22Speaker 3: but Austin was joined for part of it, and then
- 5:24Speaker 3: obviously we can talk about the game when we get
- 5:26Speaker 3: to it. But I think it's more storytelling and just
- 5:29Speaker 3: sharing the experience. I think I want to enjoy this
- 5:32Speaker 3: and before we move on to Iowa and talk about
- 5:37Speaker 3: what's next to come here in the sweet sixteen. To start,
- 5:43Speaker 3: I guess I went down on Wednesday night and we
- 5:47Speaker 3: got a hotel north, said okay See, and got up
- 5:51Speaker 3: bright and early and headed down to downtown to see
- 5:56Speaker 3: what was happening. There was one bar that we found
- 6:00Speaker 3: that was the Nebraska spot to go to, and I
- 6:06Speaker 3: think everything else was closed. I don't you know, Thursday morning. Now,
- 6:10Speaker 3: the city of ok See, You're welcome first off, but
- 6:15Speaker 3: you've gotta be a little bit smarter with what you were.
- 6:18Speaker 3: I mean, I get it, you can't prepare for this
- 6:20Speaker 3: what happened, But at the same time, very very very
- 6:24Speaker 3: very unprepared.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I don't think any bar was open besides that one.
- 6:26Speaker 4: On things, I was amazed at how few bars were open, Like,
- 6:29Speaker 4: I don't I think you're right.
- 6:31Speaker 6: I think it was. It was. Maybe there might have
- 6:32Speaker 6: been one other one that I saw online.
- 6:33Speaker 2: But yeah, I don't know that. Like the Bricktown area
- 6:35Speaker 2: was open, which we'll get to that later.
- 6:37Speaker 3: So social capitals on the southwest side of the arena
- 6:40Speaker 3: kind of across the park, the Bricktown areas in the
- 6:43Speaker 3: northeast side, So both about a ten minute walk five
- 6:45Speaker 3: ten and walk very close to the arena.
- 6:48Speaker 2: This bar.
- 6:48Speaker 3: We get there at we're walking up at about eight twenty
- 6:52Speaker 3: and there's already a line of about seventy five to
- 6:54Speaker 3: one hundred Husker fans outside. We jump in line, we
- 6:57Speaker 3: get in the door, We get a pretty good spot
- 6:59Speaker 3: up top. Four people working the entire bar. They had
- 7:04Speaker 3: a downstairs and an upstairs. Very pretty spacious. I mean
- 7:07Speaker 3: I would compare it to I mean, I would compare
- 7:10Speaker 3: the upstairs bigger than Berries and Lincoln are very similar,
- 7:13Speaker 3: I think to what Barries has up up on the
- 7:15Speaker 3: rooftop and the basement. I mean, pretty pretty good sized area. Uh,
- 7:19Speaker 3: four people working. They had no idea what was coming
- 7:22Speaker 3: within minutes. That place was flooded with Husker fans. They
- 7:26Speaker 3: had to open like pull out some old containers from
- 7:29Speaker 3: the back and start throwing whatever beer they could find
- 7:32Speaker 3: in it and selling them like from random stations. They
- 7:34Speaker 3: were calling people to come work it from that weren't
- 7:40Speaker 3: working that day. They weren't going to open the upstairs
- 7:42Speaker 3: bar until nine. Well, then nine came around, they didn't
- 7:44Speaker 3: have a bartender because they were so busy downstairstairs. They
- 7:47Speaker 3: finally got the upstairs bar open, but lines were just crazy.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I ended up buying like a twelve pack of High
- 7:53Speaker 3: Noons just out of the out of the container, like
- 7:55Speaker 3: an unwrapped there out of beer, Like we couldn't get
- 7:59Speaker 3: anything to drink. I mean, this is at you know,
- 8:01Speaker 3: nine am, nine thirty before the eleven forty tip. Uh.
- 8:04Speaker 3: They just they weren't ready and they at all for
- 8:07Speaker 3: they had no idea what to expect, and I don't
- 8:09Speaker 3: think we did either, But I'm not surprised, like I'm like, yeah,
- 8:12Speaker 3: this is this is it for what's open. And we
- 8:15Speaker 3: ended up leaving at ten ten to get into the
- 8:17Speaker 3: arena because you could get beer there quicker, like legitterally
- 8:21Speaker 3: get in there and get beer. And that's what Austin met.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Austin he was also there.
- 8:27Speaker 4: So yeah, I did pretty much same thing, and we
- 8:30Speaker 4: drove down Wednesday, but I did not go the whole way.
- 8:32Speaker 4: I had an extra hour Thursday morning and got there
- 8:34Speaker 4: around nine, hopped in line, waited for about a half
- 8:37Speaker 4: hour to get my high dude, and we hung.
- 8:40Speaker 6: Out a little bit longer after you guys left it.
- 8:42Speaker 4: You know, the fans started all migrating towards the stadium,
- 8:46Speaker 4: so by the time they opened the upstairs bar, it's
- 8:47Speaker 4: like it's too late, guys, We're moving on, you know.
- 8:53Speaker 4: And then yeah, I went to the game and then
- 8:54Speaker 4: I pieced out right after because I had I had
- 8:56Speaker 4: things I had to do. But we hung out, watched
- 9:00Speaker 4: watch the celebrations, wait till the marine cleared a little bit.
- 9:03Speaker 6: But yeah, it was well.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Let the Doc Troy game here first, yep, I mean yeah,
- 9:11Speaker 3: that was the half marathon bet.
- 9:13Speaker 2: I'm ready. I actually got a letter in the mail
- 9:15Speaker 2: of the day.
- 9:15Speaker 3: It was like karma meant to be from Good Life,
- 9:18Speaker 3: have the same free registration is open.
- 9:21Speaker 7: What a what a great bet by Dakota. That was awesome.
- 9:26Speaker 3: So all were running a half marathon. I mean rightfully so,
- 9:29Speaker 3: and I'm never been more excited. Uh we did. We kicked.
- 9:34Speaker 2: We kicked Troy's ass from start to finish.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Uh.
- 9:37Speaker 2: It was.
- 9:38Speaker 6: It was a great game.
- 9:39Speaker 3: One of those games to start where they you know,
- 9:40Speaker 3: hit a couple of threes, they're twenty point shooter, hit two,
- 9:44Speaker 3: which and they hit a one footer like we were down.
- 9:47Speaker 3: I I live bet as twice to win more money
- 9:52Speaker 3: because I'm like, the way this game is going, we're
- 9:54Speaker 3: getting anything. We went on offense, We've done a couple
- 9:57Speaker 3: of stupid things and they are hitting shots that they're
- 9:59Speaker 3: not and they can't get to the king into the
- 10:03Speaker 3: room at all. So I'm like, this is gonna We're
- 10:04Speaker 3: gonna end up blowing them out. We did. I think
- 10:06Speaker 3: we'll beat in by twenty nine. It was very historic.
- 10:10Speaker 3: I think that was the word that I saw everywhere
- 10:12Speaker 3: with histories made, you know, winning our first tournament game.
- 10:17Speaker 3: It was, it was, it was. It was an awesome environment.
- 10:20Speaker 3: I mean, the go big red chances for power chance.
- 10:23Speaker 6: It was so loud. I know, I know it was
- 10:26Speaker 6: louder Saturday when they hit the two, But when I left,
- 10:30Speaker 6: I talked to one of the workers in the elevator
- 10:33Speaker 6: because for some reason, it's impossible to find stairs in
- 10:35Speaker 6: that place. I don't know if you noticed that. It's tough.
- 10:39Speaker 7: Yeah, it's tough.
- 10:40Speaker 6: But I had to talk to the elevator attendant.
- 10:43Speaker 4: I got to talk to the elevator and she was like,
- 10:45Speaker 4: that was louder than the finals games last year for
- 10:47Speaker 4: the Thunder, So it was freaking loud.
- 10:52Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 10:53Speaker 5: Well, my Thursday was I took off from I took
- 10:57Speaker 5: up my lunch break from work.
- 10:58Speaker 7: I said, all right, I might not come back, and
- 11:01Speaker 7: I thought about not coming back, but then they started
- 11:03Speaker 7: killing I was like, all right, time and go back
- 11:04Speaker 7: to work. And then yeah, I just worked the second half.
- 11:06Speaker 7: It was at that.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Point, okay, well that's decks. I'm gonna add to my someone.
- 11:12Speaker 4: I did see Andy Kats walking into the stadium.
- 11:14Speaker 6: That was cool.
- 11:17Speaker 4: But two, the way I just also described it to
- 11:19Speaker 4: my coworkers was like, I know we were killing them
- 11:21Speaker 4: by twenty, but every by thirty, every shot you hit
- 11:24Speaker 4: a three, you would have thought we just took the
- 11:25Speaker 4: one point lead. I mean, everything was just people were
- 11:30Speaker 4: losing their freaking minds because it was just I don't know,
- 11:32Speaker 4: if you you just feel it.
- 11:33Speaker 6: You're like it's happening, like we're we're freaking going, Like.
- 11:38Speaker 3: I don't know where you guys are sitting, Austin we
- 11:40Speaker 3: I would say that first game we sat a little bit,
- 11:43Speaker 3: but I mean less than ten percent of the game
- 11:46Speaker 3: is where we kind of were at from sitting that
- 11:48Speaker 3: first game. I I'm talking about like during gameplay, right,
- 11:53Speaker 3: I would say less than ten percent we sat during
- 11:55Speaker 3: that first game, it was and every possession, every moment
- 12:02Speaker 3: mattered and was crazy.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Even getting a stop like up twenty was like we
- 12:06Speaker 2: went nuts.
- 12:08Speaker 6: Yes, I had.
- 12:09Speaker 4: I said a little bit more because I I had
- 12:11Speaker 4: like a ten year old local kid who just wanted
- 12:13Speaker 4: to go watch the games. We were in the club
- 12:14Speaker 4: level behind the basket. So I said a little bit
- 12:18Speaker 4: more because like I don't want to be that guy
- 12:19Speaker 4: who I can't see anything. But I told I apologize.
- 12:24Speaker 4: I told him, like, I'm just gonna let you guys know,
- 12:26Speaker 4: I'm gonna be standing up quite a bit. I'm going
- 12:29Speaker 4: to try to keep it moderate to the appropriate time,
- 12:31Speaker 4: end up for the big moments and sit down while
- 12:33Speaker 4: you know, but like I said, every shot I thought,
- 12:37Speaker 4: I mean, you know, just just it was so cool.
- 12:42Speaker 4: I was losing it every time, just like it just
- 12:45Speaker 4: felt every shot felt good even though we were killing them.
- 12:47Speaker 4: I didn't care, you know.
- 12:51Speaker 5: When Troy started hitt those threes early on, was the
- 12:53Speaker 5: whole arena like getting worried or was it?
- 12:56Speaker 6: No, there was some frustration, but I don't think it
- 12:58Speaker 6: was really were uneasy.
- 12:59Speaker 3: I I don't know anybody.
- 13:01Speaker 6: I mean, it was.
- 13:01Speaker 2: It was a tight game early on, right like it
- 13:03Speaker 2: it was what it was.
- 13:04Speaker 3: I just I just kind of tell people around them,
- 13:07Speaker 3: like we're gonna be okay, like we're gonna be fine.
- 13:09Speaker 3: The shots that they're making is not going to continue.
- 13:11Speaker 3: We're getting a lot better quality, Like we're better. Right.
- 13:16Speaker 4: It was one of those games where like people like
- 13:18Speaker 4: were uneasy in the sense of it was like the
- 13:20Speaker 4: football that you could into the football season, you know,
- 13:24Speaker 4: like going to half times, like I really want to
- 13:25Speaker 4: be up twenty. Yeah, not that we're gonna blow it
- 13:28Speaker 4: twenty frequently, but like I just want to be up twenty.
- 13:30Speaker 4: And then they had that the terrible call that whenever
- 13:33Speaker 4: they got free throws out of it, you know. But
- 13:35Speaker 4: so then they went into half up sixteen and just
- 13:38Speaker 4: like you know, like we're fine, but gosh, it'd have
- 13:40Speaker 4: been nice to be up twenty.
- 13:41Speaker 2: And that was the game. Then after that, you know,
- 13:47Speaker 2: people stayed.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I we stayed and actually got like third row seats
- 13:49Speaker 3: from mid court for the Bandy mc me state.
- 13:53Speaker 6: Game, which I here.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Those what my.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Normal tickets were. Besuse, I just walked down there because
- 14:00Speaker 3: there's nobody there, you know, I mean there's I mean,
- 14:03Speaker 3: once the sessions. If you don't people don't know the sessions.
- 14:06Speaker 3: The two games are together in one session.
- 14:08Speaker 6: So once you're you're talking, I thought you're moving on
- 14:10Speaker 6: to Saturday.
- 14:11Speaker 3: No, all that that Vandy McNee state game, we were
- 14:14Speaker 3: right there and I gotta watch that, I mean, Thursday afterwards.
- 14:19Speaker 2: It was a big celebration day.
- 14:20Speaker 3: I think, you know, a lot of people, some people
- 14:22Speaker 3: went I Gosta went back, But for the most part,
- 14:25Speaker 3: a lot of people probably had plans or extended their
- 14:29Speaker 3: plans down there.
- 14:31Speaker 2: The you know, Bricktown.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Area was filled with Husker fan There's a nice little
- 14:37Speaker 3: like riverwalk canal area with several bars that the Raska.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Fans hung out at.
- 14:43Speaker 3: And Okay, just I'm just gonna hear I'm gonna talk
- 14:47Speaker 3: about Okay, see in general, like it's just it's it's Lincoln,
- 14:51Speaker 3: but it's like things are Omaha, but you just don't
- 14:56Speaker 3: feel like you're everything stacked on.
- 14:58Speaker 2: It's spread out. It's easy to get around.
- 15:02Speaker 3: It's a lot of different pockets that are very close,
- 15:06Speaker 3: good restaurants and at a lot of different bars that
- 15:08Speaker 3: I thought were all very well ram besides not being
- 15:11Speaker 3: prepared for the amount of beer they were going to sell.
- 15:15Speaker 3: I just wanted to cop in Oklahoma City. As far
- 15:17Speaker 3: as just everything about the city. I really enjoyed it.
- 15:21Speaker 3: It was by far. I mean all the football road
- 15:24Speaker 3: games and some of those are college towns, but in
- 15:26Speaker 3: O case, he's not really a college town. It it
- 15:29Speaker 3: was the best best city I've been at too. I
- 15:33Speaker 3: will say that I.
- 15:35Speaker 4: Read an article in the World Herald and is they're
- 15:37Speaker 4: talking about the bars and how they were unprepared for
- 15:40Speaker 4: everyone down there. And the funny thing is, like there
- 15:43Speaker 4: are two different quotes different barns, Like I wish someone
- 15:46Speaker 4: told me about the bush light. No one down here
- 15:49Speaker 4: ever orders bush lights, and it's just we ran out
- 15:52Speaker 4: of bush light by noon on.
- 15:54Speaker 3: It was so quick.
- 15:55Speaker 7: Yeah, I heard that the calling like trucks of bush lights,
- 15:58Speaker 7: like preparing for the Saturday, and.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Once Thursday happened, it was like once we won, everybody's like, okay,
- 16:05Speaker 3: we got to be ready for Saturday. Like and so Saturday,
- 16:08Speaker 3: I think things were a lot better. They were a
- 16:10Speaker 3: lot more prepared. We had all day Friday, we took
- 16:14Speaker 3: the time. We went down to the okay See bombing Memorial,
- 16:18Speaker 3: which was very neat, Like I do recommend going to
- 16:20Speaker 3: that if you're in okay See. It was cool to see,
- 16:24Speaker 3: and then we just kind of hung out all day
- 16:26Speaker 3: and watch games. We we took it very slow because
- 16:29Speaker 3: we were one recovering, but too knew the next day
- 16:31Speaker 3: was going to be good day. So we went pretty
- 16:35Speaker 3: Friday and then.
- 16:38Speaker 4: You get into party hard watching the women's team blow
- 16:41Speaker 4: at eight point lead in the fourth quarter.
- 16:43Speaker 2: No, we did, we did, so it was funny.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Actually on Friday we stumbled upon the Goat, which was
- 16:50Speaker 3: under different ownership. One of our friends was there for
- 16:53Speaker 3: a bachelor party and they went to that same bar.
- 16:55Speaker 2: It was under new ownership.
- 16:56Speaker 3: They had just opened this week, uh, and I had
- 17:00Speaker 3: no idea we were.
- 17:01Speaker 2: They opened at noon.
- 17:02Speaker 3: We got there like eleven fifty seven and there was
- 17:06Speaker 3: a small wine of Husker fans waiting to get in.
- 17:08Speaker 2: So we actually got a table in.
- 17:09Speaker 3: There and got a good spot where and it was
- 17:10Speaker 3: hotter and the crap out that day too, the whole
- 17:12Speaker 3: time we were down there, so we spot inside that
- 17:14Speaker 3: was somewhat cool, and so we ended up posting up
- 17:16Speaker 3: there for the next three or four hours watch the
- 17:18Speaker 3: women's game there. It was. It was a great, great
- 17:23Speaker 3: environment too.
- 17:24Speaker 2: They tried to.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Order a Seltzer there high noon that morning. They were
- 17:27Speaker 3: out of high noons from the day before, so they
- 17:29Speaker 3: didn't have any of those. And then I got a
- 17:32Speaker 3: truly beer just wasn't at My stomach was like no beer.
- 17:35Speaker 3: So I was drinking Seltzer's, got it truly. I had
- 17:38Speaker 3: about four of those, and then they said they ran
- 17:42Speaker 3: out of truly, so there's a high noon okay, and
- 17:44Speaker 3: I said, yeah, like we just got a bunch more in.
- 17:46Speaker 3: So they literally got a bunch more high noon in
- 17:48Speaker 3: like while we were there. Drank a heud at the end.
- 17:52Speaker 3: But that was the story of all the bars down there.
- 17:55Speaker 3: That place is cool. And then yeah, we took it
- 17:58Speaker 3: easy and then Saturday came around.
- 18:01Speaker 7: And here I come, here, I come.
- 18:04Speaker 5: Okay, first off, I want to say this I asked
- 18:06Speaker 5: a lot of people on Lincoln.
- 18:08Speaker 7: I'm not gonna say names. Connor, Kendall, Bmark. You guys
- 18:11Speaker 7: truly missed out on this opportunity to go best game ever.
- 18:14Speaker 5: I hope you know you missed out. But anyway, Yes,
- 18:19Speaker 5: took off eight o'clock in the morning. No one wanted
- 18:21Speaker 5: to go with me. I was like, you know what
- 18:22Speaker 5: I'm going. So I took off drove. I think I
- 18:26Speaker 5: left Lincoln about by the time I guessed everything about
- 18:28Speaker 5: eight thirty or nine. Got down there about three three thirty.
- 18:31Speaker 5: By the way, the drive is not bad from here
- 18:32Speaker 5: to okayse It's truly not No, it's it's a pretty
- 18:36Speaker 5: straight shot just south.
- 18:37Speaker 7: Yeah, you just go. So yeah, I got down.
- 18:39Speaker 5: There about three three thirty and here I come, stumblee
- 18:42Speaker 5: in the bar, meet Hunter there.
- 18:45Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 18:46Speaker 3: So we we went up at Tipsy Tiki's af where
- 18:48Speaker 3: we got a backspot, which was nice because it was
- 18:51Speaker 3: also cooler back there than being outside down by the canal.
- 18:55Speaker 3: But we kind of posted up there. I went to
- 18:57Speaker 3: a different bar for a little bit which was packed.
- 19:00Speaker 3: But yeah, hung out and had some.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Fun before the game.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Again.
- 19:04Speaker 2: It just to put in perspective for people that weren't
- 19:06Speaker 2: down there.
- 19:06Speaker 3: I mean you couldn't get a drink at those places
- 19:09Speaker 3: you had, you were waiting in line for ten to
- 19:12Speaker 3: fifteen minutes just to get get in order.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Like it just everything was packed and rightfully so given
- 19:18Speaker 2: the situation. So anyways that all happens.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Then the game itself against Vanderbilt, I mean, you want
- 19:27Speaker 3: to talk about one of the I've heard people say,
- 19:32Speaker 3: you know, the best four or five matchup. Ever, I
- 19:33Speaker 3: think people would argue it probably is the best game
- 19:36Speaker 3: of the tournament so far. Hiowan, Florida was pretty crazy
- 19:39Speaker 3: last night. They ever been a couple of others. But
- 19:41Speaker 3: as far as just start to finish the the game
- 19:45Speaker 3: was close the whole time. Neither team got really to
- 19:48Speaker 3: a double I don't think it. Either team got a
- 19:50Speaker 3: double digit lead.
- 19:51Speaker 6: Got to eight points, and they got to the five
- 19:56Speaker 6: maybe any matter.
- 19:58Speaker 2: So it just was a back and forth game.
- 20:01Speaker 3: We played I thought offensively, I mean, for they were
- 20:05Speaker 3: coming up and pressuring us like Iowa did you know
- 20:09Speaker 3: the first time we played them, and they were very physical,
- 20:13Speaker 3: way more athletic than us.
- 20:15Speaker 2: The way the game was being officiated early on, where
- 20:17Speaker 2: they weren't calling a lot of stuff it. It hurt us.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Now we then exploited it, and for I adjusted and
- 20:24Speaker 3: we got some stuff going to the rim, and we
- 20:28Speaker 3: shot the crap out of the ball in the first half,
- 20:31Speaker 3: and you know, we were up by seven going into halftime. Defensively,
- 20:35Speaker 3: they shot up terribly, and I remember going, I went
- 20:37Speaker 3: to the bathroom halftime and here in a Vanderbilt fan say,
- 20:40Speaker 3: you know, we're lucky to be down seven. The way
- 20:43Speaker 3: that game was officiated kept us in the game. And
- 20:46Speaker 3: he said, yep, help us because and I was like, yeah,
- 20:48Speaker 3: and he said, we don't shoot that bad normally, Hopefully
- 20:51Speaker 3: we shoot better in the second half. But he goes,
- 20:53Speaker 3: we don't deserve to even be in this game right now.
- 20:57Speaker 3: And so then second half, I thought, you know, they
- 20:59Speaker 3: came out, put a whistles on a couple of things,
- 21:01Speaker 3: and you know, the game went back and forth. They
- 21:03Speaker 3: hit a lot of shots they did second half, got
- 21:05Speaker 3: some open shots. Yeah. I mean, the game flow, I
- 21:11Speaker 3: just it was. It was just a really good march
- 21:13Speaker 3: maddeness basketball game. If you want to take a step
- 21:15Speaker 3: back and look at it from a non Nebraska fan standpoint.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Like, it just was a good march maddeness game. Then
- 21:21Speaker 2: the ending.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Yeah, we can go through all the key plays that
- 21:24Speaker 3: everybody's probably seen if you're listening to this, but the
- 21:26Speaker 3: put backs by Sam and Rank, and we can go
- 21:29Speaker 3: back earlier in the game. Baarricase two big threes that
- 21:32Speaker 3: he hit, just just crazy that the the Leo Curtis
- 21:37Speaker 3: having to come in getting a dump a dump down
- 21:40Speaker 3: dunk in this time that he was in so and
- 21:43Speaker 3: then Price just making some incredible, just incredible nine out
- 21:48Speaker 3: of ten, ten out of ten difficulty shots.
- 21:50Speaker 6: He's so freaking good coming off, Like.
- 21:57Speaker 5: I don't know a shot for my life if I
- 21:59Speaker 5: pick Ice or Tyler Nickel, I think what his name was,
- 22:02Speaker 5: that those two are freaking Yeah, those two are sharp
- 22:06Speaker 5: shooters and they are hitting. That was so many toughest
- 22:08Speaker 5: shots those two were hitting I've ever seen.
- 22:11Speaker 6: I was like, we could have Tyler Nickel and Priced
- 22:13Speaker 6: Tanford on the same team. That'd be.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy. I just the whole christ. I mean,
- 22:21Speaker 2: he's incredible, and they guarded him tight the whole time.
- 22:25Speaker 3: He just he dribble, dribble, ribble, dribrill, and then all
- 22:27Speaker 3: of a sudden, fifteen footer he hitting the second half second,
- 22:31Speaker 3: half second part of the second half.
- 22:33Speaker 2: It just it's crazy.
- 22:35Speaker 3: And then and then Rank obviously getting this going shooting
- 22:39Speaker 3: the ball to that. I mean, it just it reminded
- 22:41Speaker 3: me of Outklahoma, the Oklahoma game. It really did, as
- 22:44Speaker 3: far as how we were executing and scoring offensively, uh overall,
- 22:49Speaker 3: besides you know, a few turnovers that we had because
- 22:50Speaker 3: of their pressure.
- 22:51Speaker 2: So all that up to the ending.
- 22:55Speaker 3: You know, the ending, you know, cinema picture that with
- 23:00Speaker 3: it would have been a home it would have been
- 23:04Speaker 3: I mean, I'll before we get to that, dude, I
- 23:06Speaker 3: will say that the decision to go to one three
- 23:08Speaker 3: one zone there with about seven eight minutes left and
- 23:12Speaker 3: kind of stuck with it throughout the remainder of the
- 23:14Speaker 3: game in the second half.
- 23:16Speaker 2: I mean, we haven't we haven't ran.
- 23:17Speaker 3: That much at all this year.
- 23:18Speaker 2: If we've we've brought it out, but it's been very
- 23:20Speaker 2: very rare, few and far between.
- 23:22Speaker 3: And we you know, it's actually one three one, but
- 23:25Speaker 3: I noticed we matched up in the last fifteen seconds
- 23:27Speaker 3: and went man at the end, So it's kind of
- 23:29Speaker 3: a It was a transition zone, which I've seen more
- 23:32Speaker 3: teams do. Uh. It really got Vanderbilt out of their rhythm.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Now they get some buckets off of it, Yes, but
- 23:39Speaker 3: what the people making those threes for them late?
- 23:41Speaker 2: We're not Nicole And it wasn't.
- 23:44Speaker 6: Wasn't uh Turner or Tyler.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Also, so you know, it wasn't those two guys getting
- 23:54Speaker 3: shots and so I you know that adjustment is incredible.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Took some balls to do that.
- 23:57Speaker 3: And then we get a stop there second and lost possession.
- 24:01Speaker 3: Don't Fred doesn't call time out. Uh you know, Price
- 24:06Speaker 3: gets it. Two guys run at him, finds freg or
- 24:08Speaker 3: Freger just went and took it to the basket. I
- 24:10Speaker 3: mean again, perfect kind of do that with this confidence
- 24:13Speaker 3: and his swag that he's got back now, you know,
- 24:17Speaker 3: going go ahead, score a basket. And then obviously the
- 24:21Speaker 3: ball that was three quarters of the way down from
- 24:24Speaker 3: from Tanner that that didn't go in, and it was
- 24:28Speaker 3: everybody just in the arena I think paused for like
- 24:32Speaker 3: one to two seconds after it didn't go in to look, say, wait,
- 24:35Speaker 3: we actually did just win.
- 24:37Speaker 5: It didn't get Yeah, it wasn't a celebration run away.
- 24:39Speaker 5: It took a little bit to like make sure the
- 24:41Speaker 5: ball didn't actually go in.
- 24:42Speaker 4: You can see, I don't know if you guys have
- 24:44Speaker 4: watched the I'm sure you have because I don't know
- 24:46Speaker 4: about you. But after Game one I watched, I relived
- 24:49Speaker 4: the moment for a long time and then you know,
- 24:51Speaker 4: the same thing, but you know, killed jacobsond like the
- 24:53Speaker 4: three guys that you could see on the court.
- 24:55Speaker 3: That's how the whole fan base like that's exactly. Cal
- 24:57Speaker 3: was like, oh my god, that just happened.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Okay, we want like it. And it was loud.
- 25:02Speaker 3: So, I mean the two loudest moments I think with
- 25:05Speaker 3: Spragger making that basket, I I mean I took a
- 25:07Speaker 3: step back and was like whoa, because I was I
- 25:11Speaker 3: was still thinking. I didn't cheer much after he made
- 25:13Speaker 3: that basket. I just was like, oh my, I wasn't
- 25:15Speaker 3: shock and I'm like, we still got to get a stop,
- 25:17Speaker 3: like it's not over. But I wasn't. I was. I
- 25:19Speaker 3: was just stunned and I but I my ears went,
- 25:21Speaker 3: holy crap, like this place just erupted. And then obviously
- 25:25Speaker 3: after he won the game, celebrations after so it it
- 25:29Speaker 3: was loud. Saturday was louder. I mean it ended up
- 25:31Speaker 3: being louder because of the way the game went at
- 25:33Speaker 3: the end.
- 25:33Speaker 2: There just incredible.
- 25:40Speaker 6: Yeah, so I not unfortunately.
- 25:43Speaker 4: But I was in charge of I was in charge
- 25:46Speaker 4: of the curly tournament that's going on that weekend, so
- 25:48Speaker 4: I had to be there, so I watched it on
- 25:50Speaker 4: tape delay.
- 25:50Speaker 6: I had no idea what happened. I knew it was
- 25:53Speaker 6: a close game.
- 25:55Speaker 4: Because when I left the arena, there was one guy
- 25:58Speaker 4: on his phone and I hear this, you know, and
- 26:00Speaker 4: it's been about two hours of like, okay, I know
- 26:02Speaker 4: it's towards the end of the game, so it must
- 26:03Speaker 4: be close.
- 26:04Speaker 6: And then when I'm leaving there's just a herd of
- 26:07Speaker 6: people who have gathered around TVs. You know, I hear.
- 26:12Speaker 6: I have not looked at my phone. I will say
- 26:16Speaker 6: watching it one, when I turned it on, I was like,
- 26:19Speaker 6: if I have to watch us lose this freaking game
- 26:21Speaker 6: and listen to Chris Weber call it, I'm gonna put
- 26:24Speaker 6: the knives in my ears. That was one.
- 26:27Speaker 4: But I will say Chris Weber on the broadcast, you
- 26:30Speaker 4: could tell he was dumbfounded by the Nebraska fans, like
- 26:32Speaker 4: he was like a little like in awe of what
- 26:36Speaker 4: was going on. Two, the broadcast does not do the
- 26:39Speaker 4: volume justice of how loud the crowd is, and it's
- 26:42Speaker 4: loud on the broadcast, but.
- 26:45Speaker 6: Does not do a justice. But as far as the
- 26:50Speaker 6: game goes, I mean one, Tyler Tanner is freaking killing.
- 26:53Speaker 7: He's good.
- 26:55Speaker 4: He's really good, so good, and it like you could
- 26:59Speaker 4: be upset about it it because it's just he was
- 27:02Speaker 4: he was doing.
- 27:03Speaker 6: It wasn't like we were collapsing and making bad plays
- 27:06Speaker 6: all time. He was just making really good plays.
- 27:08Speaker 3: His first step is so quick. Unfortunately a guy like
- 27:11Speaker 3: that the size, I don't he's not going to make it.
- 27:14Speaker 3: I don't think too far in the NBA. But he's
- 27:15Speaker 3: like the perfect college player college point I got. He's good.
- 27:19Speaker 3: He's just is so good.
- 27:21Speaker 6: And then Dak you mentioned it, Tyler Nicol the second
- 27:24Speaker 6: half when he found a shot, he was just as
- 27:26Speaker 6: good as Price was from behind the arc though.
- 27:30Speaker 7: And it was hands in his face too. He was
- 27:32Speaker 7: just it was all tough shots.
- 27:33Speaker 6: He was making, yeah, but it was a I mean
- 27:37Speaker 6: it was well balanced.
- 27:38Speaker 4: I mean, Barrick head over ten we had what four
- 27:41Speaker 4: guys over ten points like Franker's kind of got a
- 27:44Speaker 4: swag back rinks guys swig back prices on fire. I
- 27:47Speaker 4: mean we were hitting our stride like I mean, as
- 27:50Speaker 4: far as like complete Nebraska games go.
- 27:52Speaker 6: That was pretty freaking complete.
- 27:54Speaker 3: I think people will say, you know, we're at our
- 27:56Speaker 3: best win and like a lot of people would argue
- 27:58Speaker 3: when we're balanced like this, I think that's true to
- 28:01Speaker 3: a certain point, right, But I think when this happens
- 28:03Speaker 3: and you win a game like this, it's because teams
- 28:06Speaker 3: know how good prices, right.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Teams know what rank can do.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Now, the beauty of it is those guys still got
- 28:13Speaker 3: what they needed to get done. But when you are
- 28:15Speaker 3: focused on a couple of guys and it does open
- 28:17Speaker 3: stuff up for other players, right, And and like JaMarcus
- 28:23Speaker 3: did what he needed to do, bar Kay had a
- 28:24Speaker 3: really damn good game, one of the best games he's
- 28:27Speaker 3: played all year. Uh, it's one of those things that
- 28:31Speaker 3: open stuff up for others. And then those guys did
- 28:33Speaker 3: their role. Now Kill Jacobson struggled, Jared Garcia didn't play.
- 28:38Speaker 3: And I just think that like that complete performance is
- 28:43Speaker 3: what's like, Okay, everybody did their part. They did their role.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Now it could be just I'm not.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Gonna say Ayowa's gonna do this because they they're definitely
- 28:50Speaker 3: not through the opposite. But if you guard a different way,
- 28:52Speaker 3: Price could go off and score thirty like and it
- 28:55Speaker 3: could the box work wild look very different, but that's
- 28:57Speaker 3: still good too. So again, how they regarding us and
- 29:01Speaker 3: the strategy, Like when you win a game like that,
- 29:04Speaker 3: that's what the Boxberg's gonna look like, and that's what
- 29:06Speaker 3: makes it feel very complete and wholesome. Like everybody did
- 29:08Speaker 3: their role.
- 29:10Speaker 6: Yeah, I would say.
- 29:11Speaker 4: Yeah. Of the big takeaways from rounds one and two
- 29:15Speaker 4: this weekend was I feel like Fraker's kind of got
- 29:19Speaker 4: his mojo back, at least in these two games. He
- 29:22Speaker 4: looked very confident. I know, even in game one he
- 29:24Speaker 4: was missing his shots, he looked confident in taking the
- 29:26Speaker 4: shots right this one. He was getting to the he
- 29:29Speaker 4: was getting to the cup. Bale is pale. The first
- 29:33Speaker 4: game he got in quick powel trouble in the second game.
- 29:35Speaker 4: He has never gotten rhythm. And I don't know if
- 29:37Speaker 4: that's because.
- 29:39Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Kale's not a superior athlete. I mean he just and
- 29:44Speaker 3: those guys just ate him alive. I mean that that's
- 29:47Speaker 3: very put it, and that's like he will.
- 29:52Speaker 6: Yeah, that's true.
- 29:53Speaker 4: I'm the only reason I think he can keep up
- 29:55Speaker 4: with them, because he kept up with Michigan, and I
- 29:56Speaker 4: feel like Michigan's athletes are a similar level.
- 29:59Speaker 7: Yeah yeah, there their point guard quick.
- 30:05Speaker 6: Yeah, no quick.
- 30:07Speaker 4: So I mean that was part of it, but I
- 30:08Speaker 4: don't know if anyone on our team really was. So
- 30:12Speaker 4: hopefully you can't get that.
- 30:13Speaker 6: But yeah, I was. Well get to Iowa and and.
- 30:17Speaker 5: Grant to Fred for figuring out that he didn't have
- 30:19Speaker 5: it that game, so like not, he pull him pretty
- 30:21Speaker 5: quick and didn't really play that much after that.
- 30:23Speaker 4: Like with Jared Garcia game one, where it's like, yeah,
- 30:26Speaker 4: Jerry touched the balls, put your skin out, and then
- 30:29Speaker 4: he did come back in after his four minutes in
- 30:31Speaker 4: the first half.
- 30:33Speaker 5: I mean, I mean, we're gonna need Kate against Iowa
- 30:35Speaker 5: big time, so you hope he bounced it back. But
- 30:38Speaker 5: but the way Burke played, like you said, I think
- 30:40Speaker 5: that's his best game easily as a Huskerer.
- 30:42Speaker 7: He's had Okay, well, I guess.
- 30:49Speaker 5: All all around, even if he's hitting a single three,
- 30:53Speaker 5: like when that first three and up, you're like, oh
- 30:55Speaker 5: my god, there's.
- 30:59Speaker 6: I know he no two for two, but him, I
- 31:02Speaker 6: hope give him false confidence for correct.
- 31:05Speaker 5: Yeah, hopefully he's not coming out thinking he's gonna shoot
- 31:07Speaker 5: eight three's next game. But but he just played so
- 31:09Speaker 5: smart and didn't take any dumb shots like he sometimes does.
- 31:12Speaker 5: And yeah, he is him playing that well as I
- 31:16Speaker 5: think one of the main reasons why we won that
- 31:18Speaker 5: game because because if he's scoring, like you said, we
- 31:22Speaker 5: are damn tough to beat.
- 31:24Speaker 3: Here's here's I'm not going to compare us to the
- 31:26Speaker 3: really good Warriors team, but we have Klay Thompson on
- 31:29Speaker 3: our team in Price Stamford, and I mean bark is
- 31:33Speaker 3: Draymond Green, Like that's kind of the type of player
- 31:35Speaker 3: as far as how he carries himself. That's who I
- 31:40Speaker 3: kind of picture him as that.
- 31:41Speaker 6: That really and I picture Sam Wore as our dreamlond
- 31:44Speaker 6: who are to sign?
- 31:46Speaker 2: I got Sam as like Iggy.
- 31:50Speaker 6: Okay, you know, I think.
- 31:53Speaker 3: You know, if you look at that Warriors, I don't
- 31:54Speaker 3: know if we have Steph, but.
- 31:58Speaker 6: I know.
- 32:00Speaker 2: That that that the team.
- 32:01Speaker 3: You know, their roles, like that's Barricade's role, and he
- 32:03Speaker 3: did it really really well. And when he does it well,
- 32:06Speaker 3: I think our team plays really well around it. So
- 32:11Speaker 3: I guess after anything else on the game itself, I will.
- 32:15Speaker 6: Say the refs were bad. They were bad both ways,
- 32:20Speaker 6: but there were some.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Here's my comment on the ref. Yeah, you go ahead
- 32:23Speaker 2: and finish what you were gonna say.
- 32:24Speaker 6: Say. The rest were bad. They're bad both ways.
- 32:26Speaker 4: I don't think it ultimately determined the outcome of the
- 32:28Speaker 4: game because there's a one point game. Yes, there was
- 32:30Speaker 4: a double drive by JaMarcus in the first half, but
- 32:33Speaker 4: there were two. There were two really bad like no
- 32:37Speaker 4: contact calls on us, and they let they the first
- 32:41Speaker 4: basically arguments of the game. They let they did whatever
- 32:43Speaker 4: they could do, the price, they let whatever. They tightened
- 32:46Speaker 4: it up at the end because it was getting a
- 32:48Speaker 4: little out of hand because they were they were pulling
- 32:51Speaker 4: on price like nobody's Yes.
- 32:53Speaker 5: But Dak, I mean that you said in the stance
- 32:59Speaker 5: are they They did not have any clue that they
- 33:02Speaker 5: were trying to do that first half at all, and
- 33:03Speaker 5: they lost control of the game.
- 33:04Speaker 7: The second half that came out a lot better. I thought.
- 33:06Speaker 5: It still wasn't great, but at least they were a
- 33:09Speaker 5: little more consistent what they were calling.
- 33:10Speaker 7: The first half.
- 33:10Speaker 5: They're not consistent one bit, and and I don't know
- 33:14Speaker 5: how you're not prepared going to a tournament game like that, but.
- 33:18Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, they.
- 33:23Speaker 2: They weren't making the game all about them, but the
- 33:27Speaker 2: way that they lost and control the game, they then
- 33:29Speaker 2: start having to pick and choose what they were going
- 33:31Speaker 2: to call.
- 33:32Speaker 6: Yeah, and when you.
- 33:34Speaker 3: Start doing that, that's when you start getting fans on
- 33:36Speaker 3: both ends frustrated, because then then you don't know how
- 33:40Speaker 3: they're going to call the game. And I coaches too
- 33:42Speaker 3: and players too, like because they let so much stuff
- 33:45Speaker 3: go early and then I say stuff, it's a lot
- 33:47Speaker 3: of times on them because they were playing in a
- 33:49Speaker 3: much more physical, aggressive defense on us, right, and the
- 33:52Speaker 3: fouls got to be three to zero pretty quickly. Their
- 33:55Speaker 3: coach got pissed. I watched him put the three to
- 33:57Speaker 3: zero up to the ref and said, the fouls are
- 33:59Speaker 3: three to zero. Guess what the flip switching one eight
- 34:02Speaker 3: to five the other direction by two minutes left in
- 34:05Speaker 3: the half and the way that they were playing that
- 34:07Speaker 3: shouldn't have been the case, but it was because they
- 34:10Speaker 3: got in trouble of how they were calling the game.
- 34:14Speaker 3: You know. The second half, I thought they did a
- 34:15Speaker 3: good They came out right away and like, I think
- 34:18Speaker 3: nine seconds are amp the clock and they called a
- 34:20Speaker 3: hand check on them right like.
- 34:23Speaker 2: That's what was frustrated. Again, I agree it was both.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Ways, but it was not. It was not these these
- 34:30Speaker 3: fans have it out for Nebraska. That's never true. And
- 34:34Speaker 3: in fact, the fun common I are like NCA out
- 34:37Speaker 3: of anybody, wants Nebraska to win because they want they
- 34:39Speaker 3: know that we're going to travel, they know that we're
- 34:41Speaker 3: gonna give more stories, ticket prices up, like so they
- 34:45Speaker 3: never have it out for Nebraska. It just they lost
- 34:47Speaker 3: control of that game in the first half and it
- 34:49Speaker 3: dictated how the game was going. And it was choppy
- 34:51Speaker 3: and it wasn't fun to watch because it was just
- 34:54Speaker 3: it was pick and choose what you wanted to call
- 34:56Speaker 3: and when you wanted to call it.
- 34:58Speaker 2: The second half is much better and and actually, you know,
- 35:00Speaker 2: we were up seven in the first half.
- 35:02Speaker 3: After all that, right like second half they got a
- 35:05Speaker 3: five point lead and we even say the officiating was better.
- 35:07Speaker 3: So anyways, that's that was how I thought that one.
- 35:11Speaker 3: I was very upset the first half too.
- 35:13Speaker 2: I just I just did they lost it just was.
- 35:16Speaker 3: It wasn't fun, it just did it didn't let two
- 35:19Speaker 3: teams do what they're comfortable doing. Yeah, you know what
- 35:22Speaker 3: what they got to that point for neither team was
- 35:26Speaker 3: getting that. So anyways, the game. Yeah, got over the
- 35:36Speaker 3: atmosphere after the game. I'll never forget. Like, now here's
- 35:40Speaker 3: what's funny for us. It was the first time, really
- 35:43Speaker 3: as at our age, that's ever happened, right, I just
- 35:45Speaker 3: turned thirty, Austin's thirty, DA's twenty six seven seven, Okay,
- 35:52Speaker 3: Like we've never lived this moment, and Husker fans themselves
- 35:57Speaker 3: haven't lived this moment for decades, right, And I'm saying
- 36:02Speaker 3: Husker fans in general because football we've been trying to
- 36:05Speaker 3: but we can't like just built up that, you know,
- 36:13Speaker 3: after the game. And the first game was like this too,
- 36:15Speaker 3: but the second game especially, like everybody, I'm not kidding.
- 36:18Speaker 3: I bet I high fived over a thousand people after
- 36:20Speaker 3: the game. Like wewhere between I was hugging random people
- 36:23Speaker 3: that I like. This guy's like I saw him from college,
- 36:27Speaker 3: Michael Cardelle Austin. I remembers him.
- 36:30Speaker 6: Nice.
- 36:30Speaker 3: We made eye contact from like thirty feet away outside
- 36:34Speaker 3: the arena and we just went and jumped into each
- 36:36Speaker 3: other's arms and like bro hugged for like fifteen seconds
- 36:39Speaker 3: because we were so excited. Like I haven't talked with
- 36:41Speaker 3: the kids into college. There's random moments like that. That
- 36:45Speaker 3: you just had with so many fans and random fans
- 36:48Speaker 3: high fives. It just was so much emotion built up
- 36:50Speaker 3: into one and then the party ensued afterwards down in
- 36:55Speaker 3: the Brickyard area, Bricktown area, with jumping into the canals
- 36:58Speaker 3: the bars, I mean bars, they started charging twenty dollars
- 37:01Speaker 3: covers to get in because they just couldn't let it
- 37:04Speaker 3: was just crazy. Just again, can't describe it. You hope
- 37:08Speaker 3: there's more moments like that to come. We've never lived it.
- 37:12Speaker 6: More, we hadn't lived it.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Now. We have people that you know, said that, you know,
- 37:17Speaker 3: in the nineties, that that's kind of what winning national
- 37:20Speaker 3: titles was, like, that's what, you know, winning conference championships
- 37:23Speaker 3: things like that. Not we did that after every game,
- 37:26Speaker 3: but like big moments that that was the type of celebration.
- 37:29Speaker 3: We just haven't been able to do that ever. Husker
- 37:31Speaker 3: fans are like, we're crazy, Like Dave Portnoy just put
- 37:35Speaker 3: out out, you know, nuts we are, and like people
- 37:38Speaker 3: like that, they know that we're nuts. But until something
- 37:40Speaker 3: like this happened and we could actually show like how
- 37:43Speaker 3: nuts we are after a whin, you're like, holy crap.
- 37:47Speaker 4: I read an article in a in the Tennessee Tennessee
- 37:50Speaker 4: newspaper that was going around on the Nebraska subreddit. But
- 37:54Speaker 4: in the article it just kept they could you could
- 37:57Speaker 4: tell you you don't understand what the thing like you
- 38:00Speaker 4: you had to be there to understand that it was
- 38:03Speaker 4: not like they I know, on TV they said it
- 38:05Speaker 4: wasn't a home crowd or a neutral site. But you
- 38:08Speaker 4: just can't understand the advantage that they got because of
- 38:11Speaker 4: the crowd. Like no, I mean he said, it's like
- 38:14Speaker 4: over and over this thing about like the season and
- 38:17Speaker 4: you know here, you know, in the article that talked
- 38:19Speaker 4: about how Vanderbilt should have been higher seated than blah
- 38:21Speaker 4: blah blah.
- 38:22Speaker 7: Okay, yeah, here we go.
- 38:23Speaker 6: He's you know, well, I mean it was you know,
- 38:25Speaker 6: it was a Tennessee newspaper. That's what the bret. You know,
- 38:27Speaker 6: Omaha does the same shit. But he's just like, you
- 38:31Speaker 6: just don't.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Understand the other the other fan thing that's fun to
- 38:35Speaker 3: like that I heard on ninety three seven the Ticket
- 38:37Speaker 3: this morning too, like simple said it the basketball crowd,
- 38:42Speaker 3: especially their way crowd.
- 38:43Speaker 2: I mean, let's let's go back to our crowd levels.
- 38:46Speaker 3: Right as we've done this podcast, their football season, you
- 38:48Speaker 3: got the Memorial Stadium home football crowd. Right, you have
- 38:52Speaker 3: the away crowd for football games, which I would call
- 38:55Speaker 3: younger people that really want to go spend the money.
- 38:57Speaker 3: I would say the home Mortal statum crowd is a
- 38:59Speaker 3: lot of peop you sad season tickets forever. A lot
- 39:01Speaker 3: of older people sit there and cross their arms and
- 39:03Speaker 3: sit during games. The reasons why we've talked in the
- 39:06Speaker 3: past how Memorial Stadium is not hostile to play in
- 39:10Speaker 3: compared to other football places. Like we've talked about that
- 39:13Speaker 3: and it's still a true statement. You got our road
- 39:15Speaker 3: football crowd, which I think is more energetic.
- 39:19Speaker 6: More a little better, but smaller.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Yep, you got our home basketball crowd that is a
- 39:23Speaker 2: mix of the two.
- 39:24Speaker 3: I think. Right, there's I would say there's the game
- 39:26Speaker 3: itself is basketball is a little more fast basing football.
- 39:29Speaker 2: It's not as long.
- 39:32Speaker 4: But then you've had for so long that the fans
- 39:35Speaker 4: that do go are a little bit crazier about it,
- 39:37Speaker 4: Like they're going because they love the team in the sport,
- 39:39Speaker 4: not because that we were once good.
- 39:41Speaker 6: It's because we're huskers that we freaking love hunting.
- 39:43Speaker 3: Yeah, So that's I mean, that's I mean, I would say,
- 39:45Speaker 3: basket volleyball, I would say is more towards football, bask
- 39:48Speaker 3: and basketba Like there's a little bit of ticks there,
- 39:50Speaker 3: but in this road basketball crowd is like.
- 39:54Speaker 2: It's they said it best on the ticket, they said,
- 39:57Speaker 2: it's like a bunch.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Of thirty five to forty five year olds on spring
- 40:00Speaker 3: break without their watches. That's literally what it was. There
- 40:05Speaker 3: was a bunch of dudes that were with a bunch
- 40:07Speaker 3: of other dudes that wanted to go down and just
- 40:09Speaker 3: get trashed, drinking beer and going and cheering on their team.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Like that was the majority. Now obviously there were other
- 40:16Speaker 3: people there too, but that was the majority of the
- 40:18Speaker 3: crowd that went into this game. And so like that's
- 40:22Speaker 3: the type of environment that you can if you're if
- 40:24Speaker 3: you're not understanding kind of what it was.
- 40:26Speaker 2: That's what it was.
- 40:27Speaker 3: The picture of a bunch of middle aged dudes just pissed,
- 40:31Speaker 3: drunk and screaming at the top of their lungs constantly.
- 40:33Speaker 2: That's that's what it was.
- 40:38Speaker 3: It was.
- 40:38Speaker 5: It was amazing, Like, I I didn't know what you
- 40:41Speaker 5: could describe it, Like, I have no idea.
- 40:45Speaker 6: Can we replicated for Houston, that's the question.
- 40:48Speaker 7: Yeah, So as we transitioned to that, can I can
- 40:55Speaker 7: I say one more thought about the vannierball game?
- 40:57Speaker 5: No, I mean just thinking I've been just thinking back
- 41:02Speaker 5: on it. How I was like, damn, Okay, Vanderbilt is
- 41:07Speaker 5: a hell of a team. We just beat them, Like
- 41:09Speaker 5: I would, I'd put them up there with some of
- 41:12Speaker 5: the better teams in turn that I've watched, like to
- 41:15Speaker 5: win that game. I think Nebraska can easily go out
- 41:17Speaker 5: and win any game left in his tournament easily easily.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you want to put a half marathon bet on that.
- 41:26Speaker 7: I don't, But.
- 41:30Speaker 2: I mean I would say this.
- 41:32Speaker 3: We were the two I think the end of the season,
- 41:34Speaker 3: we were thirteenth and fourteenth in the polls, right, Like,
- 41:36Speaker 3: That's what that was.
- 41:37Speaker 2: That was a battle of two teams that, you know,
- 41:39Speaker 2: who do you want to put above the other?
- 41:41Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 41:42Speaker 2: And do I think there's level of the one and
- 41:44Speaker 2: two seeds. I don't think.
- 41:46Speaker 3: So might get proved wrong here in the next couple
- 41:51Speaker 3: of weeks, but yeah, I mean we're right there. You know,
- 41:53Speaker 3: we're top fifteen team and we're in the top sixteen
- 41:56Speaker 3: teams left in the in the tournament.
- 41:59Speaker 6: Yep, So.
- 42:02Speaker 2: Obviously, yeah, drive back on on Sunday. Most fans did
- 42:06Speaker 2: then after the game, and.
- 42:10Speaker 3: We watched last night on Sunday night the Iowa Florida
- 42:14Speaker 3: game where I Hello was up and then Florida creeped
- 42:16Speaker 3: back and took the lead in Iowa hung on. It's
- 42:19Speaker 3: a big three at the end to win it and
- 42:23Speaker 3: move on to the Sweet sixteen games in Houston here
- 42:29Speaker 3: on Thursday. So you know we're doing this podcast Monday night.
- 42:34Speaker 3: The game is scheduled for Thursday evening. Game one of
- 42:40Speaker 3: the session. Game two of the session is Houston, Illinois.
- 42:44Speaker 3: If you haven't looked at ticket prices, who knows what
- 42:47Speaker 3: they'll be when you're listening to it, but currently they
- 42:49Speaker 3: are at five hundred and fifty dollars to get in
- 42:51Speaker 3: the door just to enter.
- 42:55Speaker 2: So it's gonna be crazy. I think the concern that
- 43:01Speaker 2: Austin texted too.
- 43:02Speaker 3: Obviously, it's twice the hour, twice the drive, right, if
- 43:04Speaker 3: you're gonna drive, a lot of Husker fans will fly.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Will what what?
- 43:10Speaker 3: What what will the appearance be from Husker Nation down
- 43:13Speaker 3: in Houston. It's gonna be strong, we know that, but
- 43:18Speaker 3: can what what what can it look like? What can
- 43:21Speaker 3: we do you know, Houston's gonna have a lot of
- 43:22Speaker 3: tickets to Iowa's. We can't get out matched by Iowa, right,
- 43:26Speaker 3: Like that's a big But we.
- 43:28Speaker 4: Had a whole extra day, I say, travel the same
- 43:32Speaker 4: problem for Iowa. We had a whole extra day to
- 43:34Speaker 4: buy tickets than they did, so that helps.
- 43:37Speaker 2: In Iowa, I would say, probably didn't travel like we
- 43:40Speaker 2: did to Tampa. I know they didn't have no.
- 43:43Speaker 6: Well, that's why I'm worried. Did we Did we smoke
- 43:45Speaker 6: it on you know them? Like did we already? Do
- 43:47Speaker 6: we do we play our card?
- 43:49Speaker 2: We are people? I mean again, are they I'll say
- 43:52Speaker 2: it like, are people worn out?
- 43:53Speaker 3: Right?
- 43:53Speaker 2: Are they not? Maybe maybe not mentally, but are as financially?
- 43:57Speaker 4: But are they on financial p t O. That's kind
- 44:00Speaker 4: of where I'm at. It's like, you know, like I
- 44:02Speaker 4: kind of I smoked all I got. You know, I
- 44:04Speaker 4: went for the first one and maybe the final you know,
- 44:07Speaker 4: then you gotta say, it's like, well, if we make
- 44:08Speaker 4: the final four, I can't go.
- 44:10Speaker 6: To this one and the final four.
- 44:12Speaker 2: I mean I was kind of the same boat.
- 44:13Speaker 3: What I was saying. I have a great manager at work,
- 44:15Speaker 3: and I hopped on and he asked how the trip was,
- 44:17Speaker 3: and I said, oh, it was a blast, probably one
- 44:19Speaker 3: of the most fun weekends I've ever had at a
- 44:21Speaker 3: sporting event. And he goes, so you're playing to go Thursday, right,
- 44:25Speaker 3: I was like, all right, I'm ready, I'm approved. So yeah,
- 44:32Speaker 3: I'll be curious to see, Like what what that I
- 44:36Speaker 3: I don't know. Obviously it's not gonna be okay seen
- 44:38Speaker 3: and it's not it's not going to be like that.
- 44:40Speaker 3: There's no chance with especially with Houston being there in
- 44:46Speaker 3: that session. But you know we're gonna show up strong.
- 44:50Speaker 2: I we better be.
- 44:52Speaker 3: My one thing is I don't know what the Houston
- 44:54Speaker 3: thing will look like, but we better freaking have more
- 44:57Speaker 3: fans in Iowa.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Like that's my one thing too. That's like, we're not
- 45:01Speaker 2: just in a sweet sixteen game. We're playing. We're playing Iowa.
- 45:06Speaker 7: You could have drawn up drawn up any better.
- 45:09Speaker 3: Like it's our rival, right that we played twice in
- 45:14Speaker 3: two already this year, one and one with them.
- 45:18Speaker 6: I just get Yeah, it's sicken to me. I am terrified.
- 45:24Speaker 6: I'm so scared of.
- 45:25Speaker 2: The amount of bar fights that could happen before the game.
- 45:30Speaker 7: That number is so high.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Like if that's why I'm like I can't miss it,
- 45:36Speaker 2: like I can't.
- 45:37Speaker 3: I if I can't find anybody to go, I'll drive
- 45:40Speaker 3: them by myself.
- 45:41Speaker 7: I think.
- 45:41Speaker 6: I think I have to go.
- 45:42Speaker 4: I have to be there.
- 45:44Speaker 6: I don't blame you. I have to be there if
- 45:48Speaker 6: I didn't have a wife and.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Child, I know, and that the different life scenario there, that's.
- 45:55Speaker 6: The not the obviously bus to have them.
- 45:58Speaker 3: But you know, if some people had to stayed life's
- 46:00Speaker 3: job and didn't get fired in the last year, maybe
- 46:03Speaker 3: they would have enough.
- 46:05Speaker 7: Are you talking about Austin or what?
- 46:09Speaker 6: No.
- 46:10Speaker 4: I think.
- 46:12Speaker 5: I do think I was going to bring a good
- 46:14Speaker 5: amount of fans this now, because I mean even Tampa.
- 46:18Speaker 5: I think for being in Tampa they had decent amount
- 46:20Speaker 5: fans Aboutras out NUMBEROM out number them. Probably Freedom one.
- 46:24Speaker 5: I would say, I don't. I don't think they're gonna
- 46:26Speaker 5: bring as many fans just because just because they're ninety two.
- 46:29Speaker 6: I don't, Like I said, I don't. We had a
- 46:32Speaker 6: whole extra day to buy tickets.
- 46:34Speaker 4: Houston fans already bought tickets, you know, and it's in
- 46:37Speaker 4: their hometown, so they were getting and there was the
- 46:41Speaker 4: last game Sunday night, So I mean they're getting the
- 46:44Speaker 4: what's left.
- 46:45Speaker 6: You know, you have the super fans that hopped on it, but.
- 46:51Speaker 5: What's let's getting even crazier. Me and Hunter talked about this,
- 46:54Speaker 5: which we'll move on to the we'll talk about that game,
- 46:57Speaker 5: but say Nebraska and Houston, mean, what is this Sprague
- 47:02Speaker 5: gonna be in that game?
- 47:02Speaker 7: Hoskar fans to Houston.
- 47:04Speaker 6: Fans used to us it's in their backyard.
- 47:13Speaker 2: Yeah no, yeah, I mean by six and a half seven,
- 47:17Speaker 2: I mean they will.
- 47:19Speaker 3: No.
- 47:19Speaker 7: I was talking about like fans will be like fans
- 47:23Speaker 7: fans Yeah.
- 47:24Speaker 3: No, yeah, I mean I think Houston will have a
- 47:27Speaker 3: bunch of their fan base was the second most I
- 47:29Speaker 3: would say, okay, see.
- 47:31Speaker 7: Right, Like, I think they have a good following, so
- 47:34Speaker 7: we'll see.
- 47:34Speaker 2: I think that could be interesting.
- 47:36Speaker 3: I think there also are some Husker fans that if
- 47:38Speaker 3: we were to beat Iowa on Thursday, that they will
- 47:40Speaker 3: fly down on Friday to the Saturday.
- 47:42Speaker 2: I think that's also.
- 47:44Speaker 4: Gotta have those flights available, though there's limited flights, Yeah,
- 47:47Speaker 4: there are. I know the NonStop already is completely sold
- 47:51Speaker 4: out for Wednesday, and then it was like seven hundred
- 47:54Speaker 4: dollars for the you know, twelve hour layover through Dallas
- 47:59Speaker 4: or something, you know, like they're they're they're drying up.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that those are going to be those
- 48:07Speaker 2: are gonna be tight.
- 48:08Speaker 3: I I think that's you know, driving.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Is not fun that that far.
- 48:12Speaker 6: But I think great podcast time it is it is.
- 48:17Speaker 3: I got I asked some shows. I gotta get caught
- 48:19Speaker 3: up on. I gotta watch I want to rewatch our game.
- 48:22Speaker 3: Still gotta watch the new Peaky Blinders movie. I don't
- 48:24Speaker 3: know if you guys watched that.
- 48:25Speaker 6: I gotta get caught up.
- 48:26Speaker 2: Lots of stuff so it'll be good. But yeah, the
- 48:30Speaker 2: Iowa game itself, let's go there a little bit. How
- 48:35Speaker 2: do you how do you guys feel? I mean we're now.
- 48:36Speaker 3: I think one and a half is what I saw
- 48:39Speaker 3: a few hours ago, and half for us being favored.
- 48:45Speaker 3: Obviously they were one on one against them. They got
- 48:47Speaker 3: us pretty good out in Iowa City. We were up
- 48:50Speaker 3: pretty good in Lincoln and then they came back, went
- 48:53Speaker 3: overtime there at the end of the year, and.
- 48:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm terrified.
- 49:00Speaker 4: I I like that people that I think our advantage
- 49:05Speaker 4: for our team specifically in this tournament was people didn't
- 49:08Speaker 4: know what you know, It's like, wow, prices shot does
- 49:11Speaker 4: go off quicker than you think, and the way their
- 49:13Speaker 4: defense interacts and you know, it is a little bit
- 49:15Speaker 4: more complicated than you think, and so if you haven't
- 49:18Speaker 4: seen it before, you can catch you off guard, which
- 49:21Speaker 4: I think is what happened to Vanderbilt in the first
- 49:22Speaker 4: half in addition to the you know, because we were
- 49:25Speaker 4: talking about how you know, the reffing was bad in
- 49:28Speaker 4: the first half against US, and we still had some
- 49:30Speaker 4: eight point lead at some point lead, but I was
- 49:35Speaker 4: seen US twice and the first it's been basically even.
- 49:38Speaker 4: I know we lost by five of the first game,
- 49:40Speaker 4: but we were down. They basically hit a three pointer
- 49:42Speaker 4: to take the lead, and then we had a foul
- 49:44Speaker 4: which gave him that five point after we missed a
- 49:45Speaker 4: shot which gave him the five point lead.
- 49:49Speaker 6: And Ben McCollums such a freaking good coach. Yeah, I'm
- 49:53Speaker 6: so scared, so scared.
- 49:57Speaker 2: And we texted him last night.
- 49:59Speaker 3: Would you rather Florida?
- 50:01Speaker 6: Yes?
- 50:02Speaker 4: I take, because it's it goes from you're playing with
- 50:05Speaker 4: house money, you lose to the one seed, you lose
- 50:07Speaker 4: to the rainy champ, you feel a little bit better,
- 50:09Speaker 4: you're the sweet sixteen.
- 50:10Speaker 6: If we lose in the Sweet six now all the
- 50:12Speaker 6: pressure shift to us.
- 50:13Speaker 4: If we lose the sweetest scene against Iowa, that's gonna
- 50:16Speaker 4: hurt so freaking bad.
- 50:18Speaker 6: And before it's like if we lost, it's like, well
- 50:20Speaker 6: they probably should have.
- 50:21Speaker 4: Now we're the favorite against the team that we've already beaten,
- 50:24Speaker 4: so we know that we can beat them.
- 50:25Speaker 6: But they've also beaten us, so they know they could
- 50:27Speaker 6: beat us.
- 50:27Speaker 3: Oh it makes me that that's one way of looking
- 50:30Speaker 3: at it, right, Like, if you want to look at
- 50:34Speaker 3: the end of the season and how that could have gone,
- 50:37Speaker 3: I yes, yeah, it's fought on like now it is.
- 50:40Speaker 2: If we lose to Iowa, you're just like, not these
- 50:44Speaker 2: losers again, Like.
- 50:45Speaker 6: And you feel sick.
- 50:46Speaker 4: You don't you're not celebrating the Sweet sixteen and you're
- 50:49Speaker 4: mourning the loss of the Sweet sixteen.
- 50:51Speaker 5: It wouldn't completely ruined the season, but it'd be close,
- 50:54Speaker 5: like it would.
- 50:55Speaker 7: It would suck that bad.
- 50:57Speaker 2: We we I think we have a better chance of
- 50:59Speaker 2: beating them.
- 51:01Speaker 3: You know, if we would have played Florida, we would
- 51:02Speaker 3: have been a six and a half seven and a half,
- 51:04Speaker 3: eight and a half point underdog.
- 51:06Speaker 2: You know, we're favored against i I think as far
- 51:08Speaker 2: as our chance is to win.
- 51:10Speaker 7: They're better Now.
- 51:11Speaker 3: Obviously we can lose a game, but they're better to
- 51:13Speaker 3: beat Iowa and a better chance to getting too the
- 51:15Speaker 3: lead eight and then who the hell knows Illinois beats Houston,
- 51:19Speaker 3: you know, I mean, I think we can maybe beat Houston.
- 51:22Speaker 3: I don't know whatever, but I think your chances now
- 51:25Speaker 3: are starting to look Now when you look at Iowa,
- 51:28Speaker 3: you say, okay, shit, we can make a run here.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Who the hell knows where this could end up by
- 51:33Speaker 2: the end of the year.
- 51:36Speaker 3: That that's why I'm like, Okay, I still think if
- 51:38Speaker 3: he had to pick one, I'm still picking Iowa.
- 51:41Speaker 2: I'm everything you said, Austin, I'm I'm terrified.
- 51:44Speaker 3: Like Ben McCollums, first we knew he was a good
- 51:49Speaker 3: coach at Drake and some of the players that he
- 51:51Speaker 3: brought over. He's every bit of what you want in
- 51:54Speaker 3: a basketball coach is as far as the game planning
- 51:58Speaker 3: and scheming and culture and just the toughness and grittiness.
- 52:01Speaker 2: I mean, god, they went from.
- 52:05Speaker 3: Old Fran McCaffrey and what he was trying to do,
- 52:08Speaker 3: and now they're coaches like their goddamn football team, like
- 52:11Speaker 3: their basketball team plays like the football team, and it's
- 52:13Speaker 3: just annoying and they win and they're so well coaching
- 52:15Speaker 3: but together, and like that's the kind of team they are.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Here's what gives me hope and encouragement. I also think
- 52:23Speaker 2: Nate Lesner and Fred Hoiberg are just as good.
- 52:26Speaker 3: So yes, well, I do think McCollum is going to
- 52:31Speaker 3: have a lot of stuff and adjustments and tweaks and
- 52:33Speaker 3: things like, we also know exactly what they have to
- 52:36Speaker 3: and we're also good at making adjustments and tweaking and
- 52:41Speaker 3: doing some of those things to get them out of
- 52:44Speaker 3: out of them being comfortable. So that's what gives me hope,
- 52:46Speaker 3: is like, yeah, we have played them twice. Yeah, they
- 52:48Speaker 3: know a lot about us, but guess what, we know
- 52:50Speaker 3: a lot about them too, and we have some damn
- 52:52Speaker 3: good coaches as well that it's not like we got
- 52:55Speaker 3: to go against somebody that's like, you know what, we
- 52:57Speaker 3: just are the athlete to match up with him. I
- 53:00Speaker 3: think with Florida, they're a couple of those guys have
- 53:02Speaker 3: been like we just don't have the firepower the man
- 53:04Speaker 3: power to keep him off the off the offensive glass. Iowa,
- 53:07Speaker 3: I think we know what they have, right, We've seen
- 53:09Speaker 3: them so much. We know, we're gonna know what adjustments
- 53:12Speaker 3: we need to make if such and such as not working.
- 53:15Speaker 3: That's what gives me hope in this game. And I
- 53:16Speaker 3: think that you know, we can we can get it done.
- 53:20Speaker 5: Here's here's why I'm very confident in this game. Because
- 53:23Speaker 5: you're talking about he smoked that, you smoked them when
- 53:25Speaker 5: you got him again with the Okay, see going there whatever.
- 53:28Speaker 7: I think I.
- 53:30Speaker 5: Just played their best game they could ever played. Now
- 53:34Speaker 5: I'm gonna say it's a price gonna come out shoot
- 53:36Speaker 5: like eighty five seventy three, But I do not think
- 53:38Speaker 5: they can play any better.
- 53:39Speaker 7: The thing against Floridas. I think they already burned that game.
- 53:41Speaker 6: That's what you say. But Ben Mertz, what's what's his name?
- 53:44Speaker 7: Ben the Stars st Yeah he didn't that's what that's
- 53:49Speaker 7: That does scare me. Yeah, he did not play well. Yeah,
- 53:53Speaker 7: he did not play well. So if he if the
- 53:55Speaker 7: role players.
- 53:56Speaker 5: Play that well again, then I'm gonna be shooting breaks
- 53:58Speaker 5: because there we're probably gonna be. But I'm rolling with
- 54:02Speaker 5: that they're not going to and we can control starts enough.
- 54:07Speaker 5: It's where we I think we win this game by
- 54:09Speaker 5: ten plus.
- 54:09Speaker 4: I really do.
- 54:11Speaker 6: Whoh boy, Dak, I.
- 54:14Speaker 7: Think we're just that much better than Iowa.
- 54:17Speaker 8: I'm knockna would why we've literally we literally lost to them,
- 54:22Speaker 8: and then we had to go to overtime to beat them,
- 54:24Speaker 8: and we had to have like a Kale Jacob said
- 54:26Speaker 8: game where we just tuged that he's not off ative
- 54:28Speaker 8: player and E went like three for three.
- 54:29Speaker 2: For So I will say what I think, Dak. When
- 54:33Speaker 2: we went to that second game and watched it, we.
- 54:35Speaker 7: Blew that oh we were, we were.
- 54:40Speaker 6: We should have won a regulations better than them.
- 54:41Speaker 3: For ninety percent of that game, and like it was
- 54:44Speaker 3: like we figured out and adjusted to what they did
- 54:48Speaker 3: the first game, Like we knew how to counter that
- 54:50Speaker 3: and it was working and we were ahead by you know,
- 54:52Speaker 3: ten to fifteen points.
- 54:53Speaker 2: I think that's kind of the point.
- 54:55Speaker 3: Now we blew the end of the game and miss
- 54:56Speaker 3: free throws and turned the ball over several times and
- 54:59Speaker 3: and still find a way to win it.
- 55:01Speaker 4: But I think that the same does that put the
- 55:04Speaker 4: air their or their way though, because now they need
- 55:07Speaker 4: to know where they need to adjust. But we grapped
- 55:08Speaker 4: because we really didn't see, we really didn't see what
- 55:12Speaker 4: was working for them because it didn't work until we
- 55:14Speaker 4: stopped performing, right, Yeah, game.
- 55:18Speaker 2: Of the game of Chess.
- 55:20Speaker 3: I hate it.
- 55:21Speaker 5: Here's where rapping comes into it again. It's also big
- 55:25Speaker 5: how this game is we rapped? Did the raps don't
- 55:27Speaker 5: play physical? That favors Iowa so much more than us?
- 55:31Speaker 6: That's true.
- 55:31Speaker 5: That's that the rapping is gonna be very big on
- 55:36Speaker 5: this because that game at home when we lost Iowa,
- 55:39Speaker 5: they let the they let i would plays physical they wanted,
- 55:41Speaker 5: and they that's the way they want to play.
- 55:43Speaker 4: Right there, I'm gonna guess it's gonna they're gonna less
- 55:45Speaker 4: be more physical. Yeah, I'm just calling it right now.
- 55:48Speaker 3: Tournament game, and you know, I think I think that's
- 55:51Speaker 3: I also am curious with the backlash of this game though,
- 55:54Speaker 3: how and I'm just gonna say off ball type of
- 55:56Speaker 3: stuff right with how Vandy was guarding Sandford and how
- 55:59Speaker 3: they put a couple of was on those. I mean,
- 56:01Speaker 3: how do you guard a shooter like Sanford. You've got
- 56:03Speaker 3: to chase the guy and you gotta just if he
- 56:06Speaker 3: catches in, he's got a glimpse that's going up and
- 56:08Speaker 3: it's probably going in, like you have to. You have
- 56:11Speaker 3: to guard him like you do. Stephan Clay where you've
- 56:13Speaker 3: got to be honest, hit constantly. Iowa did it the
- 56:15Speaker 3: first time, and I remember that game. How physical was
- 56:18Speaker 3: he thought he was getting held. It was just like
- 56:20Speaker 3: the start of the Vandy game.
- 56:23Speaker 6: The first game again. Signon. They also killed us on
- 56:25Speaker 6: the boards.
- 56:26Speaker 3: They did, and they and and and they against Florida
- 56:29Speaker 3: too on the boards as well.
- 56:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that's gonna be a big thing to watch.
- 56:33Speaker 3: I thought we did a pretty damn good job against
- 56:35Speaker 3: Vanderbilt on the boards overall, Like I think.
- 56:38Speaker 2: That was a big reason why we won that game.
- 56:42Speaker 3: So yeah, it just as a game of chest it's
- 56:44Speaker 3: it's so Fit'siowa Nebraska. It's so fun and it's great.
- 56:51Speaker 3: I can't miss it in person. I'm gonna have to
- 56:53Speaker 3: go regardless. I don't how are I don't know, I
- 56:57Speaker 3: don't have a schedule, I don't know anything. But I'm
- 57:01Speaker 3: gonna have to go down there no matter what. So
- 57:04Speaker 3: if anybody wants.
- 57:05Speaker 1: To go with me, let me know.
- 57:07Speaker 7: I want to.
- 57:09Speaker 6: I cannot.
- 57:12Speaker 7: Da Nope, buy him out. I do know a coworker
- 57:17Speaker 7: that just bought tickets for twenty five hundred dollars.
- 57:20Speaker 3: So, oh my gosh, there's no role on guys, too.
- 57:24Speaker 3: I mean while we were sitting here there right now,
- 57:28Speaker 3: I think I just saw it ticket ticketmasters getting close
- 57:31Speaker 3: to six bills.
- 57:32Speaker 5: Yeah, he was telling me to find him tickets that
- 57:34Speaker 5: were under a thousand dollars. I found me one hundred dollars.
- 57:36Speaker 5: Once he comes back at Land and said, yeah, I
- 57:38Speaker 5: just bought twenty five hundred dollar tickets.
- 57:39Speaker 7: I'm like, Okay, well, I really think I'm that fue.
- 57:43Speaker 4: I do too.
- 57:44Speaker 2: I'm waiting night, We're gonna I'm gonna wait it out.
- 57:46Speaker 3: I have a little idea we might have waited to
- 57:50Speaker 3: get into.
- 57:50Speaker 4: So we waited until basically Wednesday nights by ours for
- 57:53Speaker 4: the first round, and we got i mean his club seats.
- 57:56Speaker 4: We had our own bar, you know, and it was
- 57:58Speaker 4: like one hundred and fifty bucks, a pretty good deal.
- 58:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll tell you one thing, and this is just
- 58:04Speaker 5: looking ahead, Say beat I I don't want to play
- 58:06Speaker 5: either of those two teams. Those two don't mind Houston
- 58:09Speaker 5: are freaking scary. Those ik Houston has looked like the
- 58:14Speaker 5: best team in tournament so far.
- 58:16Speaker 6: I am more scared than I am of either of
- 58:18Speaker 6: those teams.
- 58:20Speaker 7: Okay, that's that's wild to say, but I.
- 58:23Speaker 6: Am if we lose to Iowa in the six that's.
- 58:26Speaker 3: How that's how you're thinking of it though, Like you're
- 58:28Speaker 3: thinking of it lose, like if you're just taking taking
- 58:32Speaker 3: all out of it, which you can't, but if you're
- 58:34Speaker 3: taking a lot of it.
- 58:34Speaker 2: We met, we had a better chance of beating.
- 58:37Speaker 6: Iowa right over Florida.
- 58:39Speaker 4: Yes, you're not the spread right now, we're one and
- 58:41Speaker 4: a half my favorites against Florida.
- 58:43Speaker 6: We're probably five and a half time.
- 58:44Speaker 2: You're right, just losing to them in the sweet six teams,
- 58:48Speaker 2: let's just not do that. Let's just freaking beat them.
- 58:51Speaker 4: Yes, but if I lost to Florida, it's like, ah, man,
- 58:53Speaker 4: what a great season. You know, we really put it
- 58:55Speaker 4: out there. You know we lost to a really good
- 58:57Speaker 4: Florida team. If we go and lose to freaking in
- 59:00Speaker 4: Iowa in the sweet sixteen, just like remember that year
- 59:03Speaker 4: that I just got tainted by.
- 59:06Speaker 6: Losing the freaking ioland the Sweet sixteen.
- 59:09Speaker 3: It's like you'd be at the at the water cooler
- 59:11Speaker 3: somebody at work and be like, gosh, I remember like
- 59:13Speaker 3: seven years ago that how great this was out was
- 59:16Speaker 3: so fun in the Iowa fan from across, Yeah, if
- 59:18Speaker 3: you lost the isle on.
- 59:20Speaker 6: Yeah, like, if I lose to Houston or Illinois, so
- 59:25Speaker 6: be it. But if it's gotta be oh, you know.
- 59:28Speaker 7: A lot to say it.
- 59:30Speaker 5: Bennett starts the most overaty player nation. You'll never shoot
- 59:32Speaker 5: that good again, is like you, guys, don't get your
- 59:34Speaker 5: ass kicked.
- 59:35Speaker 6: He's a projected lottery draft pick, is he really?
- 59:40Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 59:41Speaker 6: Saw it today?
- 59:44Speaker 7: Yeah, if you're listening to you suck ass Minister's Okay.
- 59:51Speaker 2: I love it, guys.
- 59:51Speaker 3: Been a great time to be alive, I think again,
- 59:54Speaker 3: one of our more enjoyable pods and weekends, I guess
- 59:57Speaker 3: weeks of being a Husker fan, and you hope this,
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: especially for the basketball program, starts something that could be a.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Little more of a routine.
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: This has to be the best feeling pod we've had.
- 1:00:09Speaker 7: Like excitement wise, Yeah.
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: The Colorado post Colorado game is pretty high, but this
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: is definitely I don't.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: I don't even want to bring this up, but I'm
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: just going to throw in a little a little comment
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: here about.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: How I think this could help the football team.
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: Here's what's great talking about football.
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: Yes, our football team has no attention right now. Rule
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: is getting just kicked out and rules at the game.
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: I didn't even know none of my social media that like,
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: he's just getting kind of no one's talking about. And
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: I think that only is going to help our football
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: team because they can freaking shut up and quit being
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: all about the hype and flash and freaking go to
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: work and find a way to win some games. Now.
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: I don't know that's going to be next year, but
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: I do think that lack of attention that they're getting
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: all the stuff that we've talked about. You know, we've
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: said the problem with the hype and the expectations and
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: the all of that. The basketball team had none zero.
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: We were picked fourteenth to win in the Big Ten.
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: Like it just I said we were gonna be horrible, right,
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: Like all of that stuff allows you then to say,
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: all right, like use that as momentum and play everything.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: We're gonna suck. Let's let's let's let's be the underdog
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: and just go out and do what we know how
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: to do. I think that that football maybe could take
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: some of that potentially this year and run with it.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: Now we'll see. I mean, the spring game is this weekend, right.
- 1:01:32Speaker 6: I think this weekend?
- 1:01:34Speaker 5: Yeah, it is Saturday, this weekend. Yeah, yeah, it's Saturday.
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: It's Saturday. Yeah, so here's the crazy parties. Nebraska wins
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: this game. Come Saturday, it's gonna be a spring game
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: and a lead eight game. No one is gonna talk
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: about football all day. It's all basketball.
- 1:01:49Speaker 7: That's crazy.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: I think that's good for the football team, like I
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: really do. And now I don't know the football team
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: can be very good. I don't know our win totals
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: five and a half that came out, but I didn't
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: want to throw that out there that this is all
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: awesome and I think it could have double impact.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: Come to faull poventually.
- 1:02:05Speaker 7: If if if.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: Will actually is a good coach. I the worst comments
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: I've seen is see, we need to give rule more time.
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: Like Fred, I'm like, ah, people.
- 1:02:14Speaker 5: Think, think about how crazy it is. Austin didn't even
- 1:02:16Speaker 5: know the spring game is this Saturday. That that's how
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: that's how much the sports have flipped.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: It's just really dies because it was I remember saying
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: sweet sixteen. I was like, oh, ship, yeah, that's right.
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: Spring game.
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: I mean I don't I don't think I'm gonna care
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: either way, even if the rest of not playing the
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: lead day about the spring game but I mean I'm
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: like to a little bit, might tune in a little bit.
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: Uh yeah, I'm trying to think of me. Yeah, there's
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: no football talk.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: They're probably they're trying there. People are maybe trying to
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: like but it's all overshadowed right now. Again, that's the
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: that's the the glory and the fun that we're living
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: in right now with the basketball team, that it's all
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: overshadowed and whatever news there is out there, you know,
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: it's kick down, the kick down, the curb that the
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: think about past years at this.
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: Time right like all we're we're all aboard the hype
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: training by this point, hype trainer.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: We're just worries. You know, we're talking about spring football
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: and what's right?
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: Like, no, nothing right?
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: So yeah, hidden hidden maybe hit a hidden gem in
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: there at the football program as well thanks to the
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: basketball program.
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: So well, Dak, if you don't watch the spring game,
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: who's gonna come on the pod and say, TJ Latif
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: is better than Dylan Riola?
- 1:03:35Speaker 7: What are you talking about. I'm gonna watch a spring game.
- 1:03:40Speaker 7: I'm gonna want. I will not give it.
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: I will not care, especially if it's the lead eight Nebraska.
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: I will not give it take away anything from that
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: game like that. If Lanner comes out through six picks,
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: I it will not ruin my mood that day.
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: If I could redo this last weekend, I would have
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: gone down and watched the Nebraska Did you think about
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: watching the baseball game they played in Wichita State on Wednesday?
- 1:04:04Speaker 7: I didn't know.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: I didn't understan what was happening. I would have done
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: that too, if I were to read at it.
- 1:04:08Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: I didn't find out about it until I had already
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: planned on leaving too late.
- 1:04:12Speaker 6: But I was like, man, that would have been fun too.
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: Well too. They're top twenty five good things here to
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: start the year, so yeah, ranked as well so.
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: And the women's team lost and we will Amy one
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: was gonna get another year. Yeah, And I think that's
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: probably it. Sorry, Amy, I wanted.
- 1:04:31Speaker 7: It to work. But Greg mcdermot's not see you retiring.
- 1:04:36Speaker 6: Do you think he's actually retiring? Is he gonna coach
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: somewhere else?
- 1:04:40Speaker 7: I think he's actually done.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: I think he's done too.
- 1:04:43Speaker 7: As my thoughts, I.
- 1:04:45Speaker 6: Think so too.
- 1:04:47Speaker 7: All right, when times get tough, you you went in
- 1:04:49Speaker 7: their minds?
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: All right?
- 1:04:51Speaker 6: Final pick Iowa? What do we think the score is
- 1:04:55Speaker 6: I'll go.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: I'll go sixty sixty two Nebraska, Dak.
- 1:05:07Speaker 7: Sixty eight fifty six Nebraska.
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: Okay, that's more than ten, you said, I think it's
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: gonna be sixty five sixty three Iowa.
- 1:05:20Speaker 7: Wow, you are you are really scared of this game?
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: Yeah, because I've watched two games against Iowa, and I
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: thought Iowa looked really freaking good.
- 1:05:30Speaker 7: See that that second game, I didn't think they did.
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: I think I thought we just literally watched them beat
- 1:05:34Speaker 6: up Florida. Who I thought Florida looked really freaking good.
- 1:05:38Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I was just forget about that game.
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: They've they beat they, I mean they've beat up Florida.
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: Now Florida realized that they were better athletes than the
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: second half. But it's a little bit too late. But
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: I mean they went toe to toe with Florida.
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: All right, Well we'll see everybody down in Houston there
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: on the wait, wait, sweet sixteen lead eight. To just
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: keep chipping away, one game at a.
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: Time, possession, one more thing. I just thought of it.
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: This is okay, I feel better now. I know you're
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: about to sign off. But Vandy did beat Florida by twenty.
- 1:06:16Speaker 6: And the SEC again kill them. So if I would
- 1:06:19Speaker 6: be Florida.
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: By one and we'd beat Vandy by one, I mean
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: we should win by like sixteen sixteen.
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: That's here's here's gonna happen Austin, and we'll sign off.
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: Benettart's can get locked his ass up by kil Jacobson
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: and San Luiburg. They're he's gonna do nothing and those
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: other guys make those shots.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: Thanks Dak, Yeah, I love it.
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: Let's see you in Houston gb R.
- 1:06:41Speaker 7: Let's go go big.
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: Red Antric Trick BA
