- 0:00Speaker 1: What's going on, everybody. It's Jeff here. I wanted to
- 0:02Speaker 1: let you know we recorded this podcast episode on Monday,
- 0:04Speaker 1: September twenty third, twenty twenty four. By the time you
- 0:07Speaker 1: hear this, some things may have changed here or there,
- 0:09Speaker 1: but we hope you enjoy the show. Welcome to Table
- 0:32Speaker 1: Talk here at the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the
- 0:35Speaker 1: longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world,
- 0:38Speaker 1: eleven years strong. We got a great discussion coming your
- 0:41Speaker 1: way this week here on Table Talk. I am so
- 0:44Speaker 1: excited that the hockey season is almost upon us. We
- 0:48Speaker 1: have seen our very first Philadelphia Flyers preseason game, and
- 0:51Speaker 1: we're certainly going to be getting into a lot of
- 0:53Speaker 1: what we saw there and what we may be seeing
- 0:56Speaker 1: from the future with regard to this Flyers team. We
- 0:59Speaker 1: have got a great guest man. It's just it's an
- 1:01Speaker 1: exciting time. Seriously, the NFL season is here, the Eagles
- 1:05Speaker 1: season is here. We've got the Phillies that are gonna
- 1:07Speaker 1: be going into red October soon. Sixers and Flyers are
- 1:11Speaker 1: on the way. Let's get it some good Flyers talk
- 1:14Speaker 1: right now. Joining us this week. We love having him
- 1:17Speaker 1: on from Broadstreet Hockey dot Com. He's got he's got
- 1:21Speaker 1: a lot of stuff that he does out in the
- 1:22Speaker 1: sports world. And again, I'm so grateful that he was
- 1:25Speaker 1: able to join us this week for a table talk,
- 1:27Speaker 1: interview and discussion. To get into this Philadelphia Flyers team.
- 1:30Speaker 1: We got to one and only Ryan Gilbert.
- 1:32Speaker 2: How you doing, buddy, I'm doing great, doing even better
- 1:35Speaker 2: now that Flyers hot back. And thanks for having me on.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I always always love hopping on with you to talk
- 1:40Speaker 2: some Flyers.
- 1:40Speaker 1: It's fun talking to you. It's fun knowing that this
- 1:43Speaker 1: team is gonna be actually playing some regular season games
- 1:46Speaker 1: at it. Right around the corner, we saw the first
- 1:48Speaker 1: preseason game and Dude, I was like, like watching this,
- 1:51Speaker 1: I was like, my gosh, we're actually we're actually at
- 1:53Speaker 1: that point. We're actually at the point where we're gonna
- 1:56Speaker 1: be seeing Mitchikov. We're gonna be seeing Bobby Brinkmore, We're
- 1:58Speaker 1: gonna be seeing Joe fair More as John Victoria. We
- 2:01Speaker 1: are gonna be seeing these guys. We're gonna be seeing
- 2:03Speaker 1: these this rebuild continuing to manifest itself. I'm like, I'm
- 2:07Speaker 1: really excited, man.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Yeah, another year of growth of a fantastic start to
- 2:11Speaker 2: the preseason opening you know, it's one game against another
- 2:14Speaker 2: team that I haven't really played yet, but still, yeah,
- 2:16Speaker 2: they could they could have they could have lost, They
- 2:17Speaker 2: could have lost six to two instead of winning six
- 2:19Speaker 2: to two.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Yeah, they went out there and then really showed what
- 2:21Speaker 2: they can do.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Absolutely well, let's get into this first preseason game, what
- 2:26Speaker 1: we saw, what we were able to digest. As you
- 2:28Speaker 1: just mentioned, they beat the Capitols. Flyers beat the Capitals
- 2:31Speaker 1: six to two, and I'm gonna kind of get into
- 2:33Speaker 1: some standouts from this particular game. And I think, first up, Ryan,
- 2:37Speaker 1: I think you know, we have to dive into Joel Farraby.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I'm so used to saying Joel Embiid, I said Joel Farrabee.
- 2:44Speaker 1: So I've got Embiid's contract on my mind too, because
- 2:47Speaker 1: we're gonna be talking about it on the show later
- 2:49Speaker 1: this week. But I want to dive into Joel Farrabee.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I mean, he not only looked like the best Flyers
- 2:54Speaker 1: player on the ice, but he had a goal, he
- 2:56Speaker 1: had three assists. I mean, he looked red hot out
- 2:59Speaker 1: there there. Loved what we saw from him. Do you
- 3:02Speaker 1: think Farab is going to maybe even take another step,
- 3:05Speaker 1: a next step that we're going to see or that
- 3:08Speaker 1: we need to see as well as this rebuild continues.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Why or why not?
- 3:13Speaker 2: I think he definitely can. He's still still pretty young,
- 3:15Speaker 2: still twenty four, going to turn twenty five in February,
- 3:18Speaker 2: so still on the younger side, even though, yeah, it
- 3:20Speaker 2: feels like he's been around for a while. He made
- 3:23Speaker 2: his an Intel debut when he was nineteen, so he's
- 3:25Speaker 2: a veteran, but he's still in that kind of younger,
- 3:28Speaker 2: younger group. He has that house with all the guys,
- 3:30Speaker 2: so it's great to see it. And he's kind of
- 3:32Speaker 2: fallen into the default Flyers fan like, oh, we should
- 3:36Speaker 2: trade this guy for a center for no reason.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Right, It's almost it's almost like.
- 3:40Speaker 2: The Braden schen thing seven or eight years ago, but
- 3:42Speaker 2: at least then there was some reason for it. Now
- 3:45Speaker 2: it's just like, Okay, Farrabee was kind of the odd
- 3:48Speaker 2: man out a little bit, but he's one of the
- 3:50Speaker 2: only natural left wings on the roster. He had that
- 3:53Speaker 2: next surgery, the discreplacement surgery two years ago, had thirty
- 3:57Speaker 2: nine points, that year had fifty points. Of the last year. Yeah,
- 4:01Speaker 2: so maybe he keeps going. I could see him getting
- 4:04Speaker 2: fifty sixty points again here, especially if he keeps us.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Up, Well, that's what I'm hoping for more like like
- 4:09Speaker 1: possibly sixty points after I'm glad you. I'm glad you
- 4:12Speaker 1: mentioned the next surgery because after he had that and
- 4:16Speaker 1: after he comes back, you know, and look, it's next surgery,
- 4:19Speaker 1: for God's sake, folks, it's next surgery. It's like, what
- 4:22Speaker 1: do you expect from the guy? And I know there
- 4:23Speaker 1: were some of us out there that were kind of like, ah, right,
- 4:25Speaker 1: you know, you know, thirty nine points here last year
- 4:28Speaker 1: with fifty points, and like I said, sixty points I
- 4:30Speaker 1: think from a natural progression standpoint is something I think
- 4:34Speaker 1: we can expect from him as he continues to develop.
- 4:37Speaker 1: He is still a young player. I think it's absolutely
- 4:40Speaker 1: possible that he can get to that point. And I
- 4:42Speaker 1: do wonder if it is that a realistic expectation that
- 4:45Speaker 1: US and Flyers Nation can have for Farrabee at this point.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I do think it is realistic. I do, Ryan, do
- 4:51Speaker 1: you as well?
- 4:52Speaker 2: I agree? I had twenty two goals last year, fifty points.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Don't see why he can't do twenty five goals. Maybe
- 4:58Speaker 2: sixty points this year, especially you get some consistent time
- 5:01Speaker 2: with a good center, like him and Bobby Brinko had
- 5:04Speaker 2: a great connection there on in Sunday's game. They've played
- 5:07Speaker 2: together a lot, but like, he didn't have a consistent
- 5:09Speaker 2: center last year. Noah Kates, Morgan Frost was in there,
- 5:12Speaker 2: Scott Lauden was in there, Ryan Paling even so, like
- 5:15Speaker 2: and you have to remember this Flyers team hasn't been
- 5:18Speaker 2: that great, especially especially two years ago when he only
- 5:21Speaker 2: had thirty nine points. It was a success that he
- 5:24Speaker 2: played in every game that year after that next surgery,
- 5:27Speaker 2: and he did the same thing last year, very durable.
- 5:29Speaker 2: He wore an A on Sunday, So you see he
- 5:31Speaker 2: kind of has that leadership. Yeah, I think as he's
- 5:35Speaker 2: slotted in as a third line winger, and if you
- 5:37Speaker 2: can get fifty points out of a third line winger,
- 5:39Speaker 2: that's pretty good.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Absolutely, if we can get sixty, I'd love it even more.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I really would. But look, you mentioned a gentleman. I
- 5:46Speaker 1: want to get into next with you here, Bobby brink
- 5:49Speaker 1: I mean what he did during his or this first
- 5:52Speaker 1: preseason game. I mean he buried a couple backhand gold goals,
- 5:56Speaker 1: which is so freaking sweet to watch, and in his chemistry,
- 5:59Speaker 1: would Joel Farrabee. I think was really great to watch
- 6:03Speaker 1: see how much it's manifest over time here. It's so
- 6:06Speaker 1: natural with both of these guys, at least I think
- 6:09Speaker 1: from my eye test. It's early during the preseason, yes,
- 6:12Speaker 1: but what are you hoping to see more of from
- 6:15Speaker 1: Bobby Brink as the preseason and then as the regular
- 6:18Speaker 1: season is almost upon us. Here, let's get into Bbby
- 6:21Speaker 1: Brink here and what you're expecting to see from him.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a huge fan of Bobby Brink ever since
- 6:26Speaker 2: he made the World Junior's roster I think in twenty
- 6:28Speaker 2: eleven or twenty twenty one, not twenty eleven, but around
- 6:31Speaker 2: there somewhere. Yeah, he was great there as kind of
- 6:33Speaker 2: a depth role. He's kind of from that. I do
- 6:36Speaker 2: want to see more consistency out of him, because you know,
- 6:38Speaker 2: he had a decent start last year eighteen points in
- 6:40Speaker 2: thirty eight games. Then he got sent back down, Yeah,
- 6:43Speaker 2: and never never really found it after you're going to
- 6:45Speaker 2: call it back up. Only had five points, four goals
- 6:48Speaker 2: in nineteen games from February twenty seventh on. Saw his
- 6:52Speaker 2: average time on ice to climb by two minutes. So
- 6:54Speaker 2: you want to see more of the defensive game from
- 6:57Speaker 2: Bobby Brink. But I really like what I saw on
- 6:59Speaker 2: Sunday those two backhanded goals. There's two moves on that
- 7:03Speaker 2: were so sweet. And yeah, he had a great camp
- 7:06Speaker 2: last year, so I don't think people should be surprised
- 7:08Speaker 2: that he bomped up in the offseason, much like a
- 7:10Speaker 2: lot of the Flyers did, because coming into this season,
- 7:13Speaker 2: he sees okay, connecting, He's not going anywhere. Tip it's
- 7:16Speaker 2: not going anywhere forresters ahead of him on the on
- 7:19Speaker 2: the on the you know youngster chart there, Mitchkoff's in
- 7:22Speaker 2: there and Farrabe, so there's there's the Flyers have six
- 7:25Speaker 2: wingers that could play in the top six, but due
- 7:28Speaker 2: to the numbers game, he's on that third line and
- 7:31Speaker 2: maybe has to kind of embrace that role more and
- 7:34Speaker 2: play more of a more of a two way game,
- 7:35Speaker 2: because there were games last year where he would score
- 7:37Speaker 2: a goal, but he'd also have a few turnovers or
- 7:40Speaker 2: take a bout of penalty and then you know that
- 7:43Speaker 2: outweighs the goal by by a lot, especially for John Twittererella.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Absolutely, I think it's interesting how you mentioned how he
- 7:49Speaker 1: was set, how he was sent down last year and
- 7:52Speaker 1: when that happens to a player, what it does to
- 7:56Speaker 1: their mindset, what it does to those sports psychology in
- 7:58Speaker 1: a way. And I wonder if Bobby Brink might be
- 8:01Speaker 1: one of those guys where if there is a hurdle,
- 8:03Speaker 1: if there is something in front of him, a wall
- 8:05Speaker 1: that he does need to break down, if it is
- 8:07Speaker 1: a little bit difficult for him to maybe kind of
- 8:10Speaker 1: get back to where he needs to be and where
- 8:12Speaker 1: we all think that he can be. So I'm hoping
- 8:15Speaker 1: that as we're moving forward here that sports psychology of him,
- 8:19Speaker 1: he seems to be one of those players where sports
- 8:21Speaker 1: psychology is kind of big with him. I don't know
- 8:23Speaker 1: what your thoughts are on that, Ryan, but like I
- 8:26Speaker 1: that's the one thing I'm going to be looking at
- 8:28Speaker 1: as a potential quote concern with regard to Bobby Brink.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you just look at him. He's five
- 8:34Speaker 2: foot eight, He's got a little guy. He's always been
- 8:37Speaker 2: probably counted against that throughout his whole hockey hockey career
- 8:40Speaker 2: so far, and I mean having Danny Brier as a
- 8:42Speaker 2: GM probably helps with that. Still manage to be a
- 8:44Speaker 2: second round pick, had a great college career, and I
- 8:47Speaker 2: think it's going to help. Having Travis Connectney here for
- 8:49Speaker 2: the long haul to be kind of a mentor for him, Like, yeah,
- 8:52Speaker 2: connecting is obviously a lot better, but like if Brank
- 8:54Speaker 2: can turn into that TK light where connect can be like, yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 2: I dealt with Dave Hackstall scratching me, I doubt this
- 9:00Speaker 2: and that and just battled through it. Scott Lawden too,
- 9:02Speaker 2: he really didn't have a role on the team, went
- 9:05Speaker 2: down to the AHL for a full year, and now
- 9:07Speaker 2: he's one of the main glue guys on the roster,
- 9:10Speaker 2: one of the main glue guys in the NHL, probably
- 9:12Speaker 2: given how the Flyers value him. So yeah, I think Brink,
- 9:16Speaker 2: you saw it in the offseason, you saw it last
- 9:18Speaker 2: training camp, you see it this training camp. So far.
- 9:20Speaker 2: He's willing to do whatever it takes. So he just
- 9:23Speaker 2: really needs to embrace that role, like I said, and
- 9:26Speaker 2: hopefully we see some more offense and defense out of him.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Absolutely well. Keeping our conversation going with regard to the
- 9:32Speaker 1: first preseason game man Morgan Frost and Mettved Mitchkoff certainly
- 9:36Speaker 1: had connection in chemistry. I mean, it was just great
- 9:40Speaker 1: to see mitchkalv on the ice at this point last
- 9:43Speaker 1: year you're thinking, You're not thinking this. You know, We're like,
- 9:47Speaker 1: oh my gosh, you know, Mettve Mitchkoff is going to
- 9:49Speaker 1: be coming here in the twenty twenty four twenty twenty
- 9:53Speaker 1: five season. But man, I got to tell you, I
- 9:56Speaker 1: think that having Mitchkoff out there was really good for
- 9:58Speaker 1: Frost considering the the reputational ups and downs that he
- 10:03Speaker 1: has seen over the years. I'm wondering, Ryan, what did
- 10:06Speaker 1: you what did you see that you liked with these
- 10:09Speaker 1: guys on the ice together that they can possibly build
- 10:11Speaker 1: upon over these next few months here.
- 10:14Speaker 2: I mean you saw the behind the net pass to
- 10:17Speaker 2: Frost on his goal from Beach Golf. I mean that
- 10:19Speaker 2: was that was incredible, And it's just weird. It feels
- 10:22Speaker 2: it's like the first training camp in forever. We're not
- 10:24Speaker 2: talking about where Morgan Frost is gonna be right. He's
- 10:27Speaker 2: in there as a second line center. He's gonna apparently
- 10:30Speaker 2: have Mitchcoff on his line to start maybe tip it
- 10:33Speaker 2: as well. Like that can be a great group. And
- 10:36Speaker 2: I absolutely love everything I see from Mitch Golf, Like
- 10:38Speaker 2: every shift he makes the right decision. He makes a
- 10:41Speaker 2: decision better than you think he could make. It's like
- 10:43Speaker 2: when you're playing like an NHL video game and you
- 10:45Speaker 2: can see the whole rink. Players normally can't see that,
- 10:48Speaker 2: but like he can sense where everyone is and make
- 10:51Speaker 2: plays and make plays that you don't think are possible.
- 10:54Speaker 2: So having Morgan Frost his skill set, his hockey IQ,
- 10:57Speaker 2: with Mitch Gooff, two guys that can hopefully build off
- 11:00Speaker 2: each other, it can hopefully be finally a breakout year
- 11:03Speaker 2: for Morgan Frost because he's never hit twenty goals YEP.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Career high end points was forty six two years ago.
- 11:09Speaker 2: So if he can just stay in that second line,
- 11:11Speaker 2: stay with Tippett and or Mitchkoff there, I don't know,
- 11:15Speaker 2: maybe I finally have high hopes.
- 11:16Speaker 1: For Morgan Frost right exactly. I mean we're hoping for
- 11:19Speaker 1: it for sure. But and here's another thing too, Ryan
- 11:22Speaker 1: that I want to tell our listeners and just Flyers
- 11:24Speaker 1: Nation in general. I mean, this was this was a
- 11:27Speaker 1: fun opening preseason game to watch in so many ways.
- 11:31Speaker 1: We may not have that necessarily throughout the rest of
- 11:34Speaker 1: the preseason. I mean, expectations need to be there still rebuild,
- 11:38Speaker 1: these guys still need to get to a conditioning standpoint
- 11:40Speaker 1: where they're ready to play in the regular season as well.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I think that's a real important aspect of this too.
- 11:45Speaker 1: If they crap the bed the next game, folks, it's okay,
- 11:49Speaker 1: let's not go crazy. And I know we're going crazy
- 11:52Speaker 1: right now, at least I'm going crazy right now with
- 11:53Speaker 1: regard to this win over the Caps. But still we
- 11:57Speaker 1: need to have our expectations set at a certain level here.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it's perfectly fine to get excited about a preseason game,
- 12:02Speaker 2: even a rookie game. We saw the prior weekend with
- 12:05Speaker 2: beach golf, But like, yeah, it's not like, oh, what
- 12:07Speaker 2: a great preseason game Flyers might when stand up come out.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Now it's like, Okay, this team might be fun to
- 12:13Speaker 2: watch and not. It's it's not something that you go
- 12:15Speaker 2: to dread watching at seven pm twice three times a week, Like, okay,
- 12:19Speaker 2: Flyers are on the throw it on, see what happens. Yeah,
- 12:21Speaker 2: it's especially because this season really has no expectations. Like
- 12:25Speaker 2: you said, there's three first round picks next year's draft,
- 12:28Speaker 2: three high second round picks, so next off season is
- 12:31Speaker 2: going to be the big pivotal point for them. This
- 12:33Speaker 2: year is just kind of like another figure things out
- 12:35Speaker 2: hopefully you know, get met goof to develop a little
- 12:38Speaker 2: bit and you know, see see what happens from there.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Absolutely again, folks talking to Ryan Gilbert from Broadstreet Hockey
- 12:44Speaker 1: dot Com. Buddy, I know you got some other things
- 12:45Speaker 1: going on out there too with some other sites that
- 12:47Speaker 1: you're working for as well, And let folks know where
- 12:50Speaker 1: they can find you on the Twitter slash x as well.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Yeah, Brostreet Hockey Podcast, make sure you search for that.
- 12:55Speaker 2: BSh Radio went away when Bill and Charlie went to PHL.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Wise make sure you do search for Broadstreet Hockey Podcast Apple.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Spotify recently launched a YouTube to check us out there
- 13:07Speaker 2: if you're into the betting gambling things. I do also
- 13:09Speaker 2: host the Hockey Gambling podcast and right for a few
- 13:12Speaker 2: different sites. So yeah, you can find all that on
- 13:14Speaker 2: Twitter at our Gilbert sop.
- 13:17Speaker 1: All right, Well, overall, it was great to see the
- 13:19Speaker 1: Flyers back on the ice as this crew is continuing
- 13:22Speaker 1: the rebuild. As I was mentioning before we head into
- 13:27Speaker 1: some other storylines here with regard to this Flyers team
- 13:29Speaker 1: and organization. As the season is around the corner, anything
- 13:33Speaker 1: else stand out for you in this first preseason game,
- 13:37Speaker 1: Ryan pro or Con with this Flyers team.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean there wasn't a lot to dislike. There's
- 13:42Speaker 2: a lot to like, primarily the power play. Power play
- 13:45Speaker 2: went two for three. Like I said at the top,
- 13:47Speaker 2: I know it's against the Capitals who are icing half
- 13:50Speaker 2: their roster. I don't care if it's against the Mites
- 13:53Speaker 2: on ice. If they write two for three, I can see.
- 13:55Speaker 2: If I can see a Flyer's power play put the
- 13:57Speaker 2: puck in the back of the net, I'm gonna be happy.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Right for the past since Claude Drew, Drake, Vorchak, Braden
- 14:03Speaker 2: Schen were here, Wayne Simmons, like the power play has
- 14:05Speaker 2: not been good. So great to see that, and like
- 14:08Speaker 2: the set up that they had with Mitchkoff kind of
- 14:09Speaker 2: roaming around. They had Frost out there, Tippet and Jamie
- 14:13Speaker 2: Drysdale too. He was great at the point. Yes, he
- 14:16Speaker 2: looked like he was completely healthy, which he wasn't last year.
- 14:19Speaker 2: He wasn't healthy at all. He you know, came over
- 14:22Speaker 2: mid season after missing training camp with the Ducks because
- 14:25Speaker 2: there was a contract situation. So Jamie Drysdale is a
- 14:29Speaker 2: player that I think is going to surprise a lot
- 14:31Speaker 2: of people this year. He's not great Defensively, he'll be
- 14:34Speaker 2: paired with probably Nick Seeler on the second parad that's
- 14:37Speaker 2: what he was with on Sunday. But he can be
- 14:40Speaker 2: a rover. Tortorella said that, So I really like what
- 14:42Speaker 2: I see from Drysdale. Think he can be a legit
- 14:45Speaker 2: top or defenseman. And then Jet Luchenko, I mean, the
- 14:48Speaker 2: first round pick from this year. Not a lot of
- 14:50Speaker 2: people were happy with it, but he's playing in all situations.
- 14:53Speaker 2: He played on the PK and what I really liked
- 14:56Speaker 2: from him was like, well, it's a five on five.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Flier were going for a change, Apples are going for
- 15:00Speaker 2: a change. The defense miss just holding the puck in
- 15:02Speaker 2: front of his net. Luchenko's hanging out of the blue line.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Most players would stay there. He went in, he pressured
- 15:07Speaker 2: the puck. He's making the most out of every shift.
- 15:10Speaker 2: He's probably not gonna be with the Flyers for the
- 15:12Speaker 2: full season. Maybe he'll get a nine game try out
- 15:14Speaker 2: at the beginning or more likely the end. But you know,
- 15:17Speaker 2: Luchenko is looking like a much better first round pick
- 15:20Speaker 2: than we thought.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Absolutely all right, well let's dive into I guess the
- 15:24Speaker 1: elephant in the room. Alexi Kolosov and his his unwillingness
- 15:29Speaker 1: to play ball and go through the tactical development that
- 15:32Speaker 1: other hockey players and goaltenders generally generally have to go
- 15:35Speaker 1: through to see success within the NHL. Again, it's the
- 15:39Speaker 1: elephant in the room at this point, with all of
- 15:42Speaker 1: this drama that is surrounding him and the Flyers, Ryan,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I do wonder if it might be better for this
- 15:49Speaker 1: team to possibly trade for him. I've read a couple
- 15:52Speaker 1: articles about this. I'm kind of like up and down
- 15:55Speaker 1: when it comes to this. What are your thoughts on
- 15:57Speaker 1: this potential of a trade at some point point down
- 16:00Speaker 1: the road, do you think it's possible and where might
- 16:02Speaker 1: he go if a trade may actually happen.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know if a trade would be possible
- 16:08Speaker 2: with him, just because yeah, I mean, teams would have
- 16:10Speaker 2: to figure out if he would come over. It would
- 16:12Speaker 2: probably have to be a team that's willing to let
- 16:14Speaker 2: him play in the KHL this year and then they
- 16:17Speaker 2: have an open competition next year because apparently Danny Brier
- 16:20Speaker 2: said he wanted to be guaranteed an NHL spot and
- 16:23Speaker 2: like the best chance to get an Angel spot is
- 16:26Speaker 2: on a team that has you know, kind of two
- 16:29Speaker 2: shaky ish goalies and he can start in the AHL,
- 16:31Speaker 2: which sounds it's exactly the Flyers like, especially given how
- 16:34Speaker 2: Fidotoff looked in two periods. He didn't look great. He
- 16:37Speaker 2: looked fine. Not going to overreact to that, but yeah,
- 16:41Speaker 2: it's and like, he's not good enough to cause all
- 16:44Speaker 2: this discussion. He's not good enough to demand to play
- 16:46Speaker 2: in the NHL. He's not good enough for fans to
- 16:49Speaker 2: freak out about for two or three months now, Like
- 16:51Speaker 2: if this was someone like Mitchkoff or someone was a
- 16:54Speaker 2: first round pick, like, okay, sure, let's panic about it.
- 16:57Speaker 2: But third round pick drafted by Chuck Fletch, not even
- 17:00Speaker 2: drafted by Danny Breer. Like if they can get a
- 17:03Speaker 2: second or third round pick for him, sure I'll take it.
- 17:06Speaker 2: But no, we'll have to see what pans out with him.
- 17:08Speaker 2: He's just yeah, he's an elephant in the room. It
- 17:11Speaker 2: has kind of screwed the Flyers goaltender depth in training camp,
- 17:15Speaker 2: Like Jarniston's going to be here longer than we expected,
- 17:17Speaker 2: He's going back to juniors. They signed the goalie from
- 17:24Speaker 2: the something Nammi guy who's gonna be in the rotation now,
- 17:28Speaker 2: but like the AHL, it's Kyle Peterson and no one else,
- 17:32Speaker 2: Like you need either someone you can trust or someone
- 17:34Speaker 2: that is developing, and call Us Off would have been
- 17:36Speaker 2: the perfect guy there. So I don't know what's going on.
- 17:39Speaker 2: I completely understand and unsympathetic to go into a new
- 17:42Speaker 2: country not knowing the language. But you signed a contract,
- 17:45Speaker 2: like at some point you got to play ball.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Exactly, you have to play ball at some point, I
- 17:50Speaker 1: tell you, man, Seriously, the balls on some of these
- 17:54Speaker 1: young hockey players, I mean Cutter Goatier first and now
- 17:58Speaker 1: call us Off. It's like, what do you come on?
- 18:01Speaker 1: Like you really haven't done anything yet. I do wonder
- 18:05Speaker 1: why and how this happens, Seriously, I wonder if it's management.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I wonder if it's just ego certain level of arrogance,
- 18:11Speaker 1: but it's not. It's not helpful. I want helpful Ryan, Yeah.
- 18:17Speaker 2: I want flyers that want to be here. Yeah, like
- 18:19Speaker 2: Keith Jones, I said, like, if you want to be here,
- 18:21Speaker 2: come play. If not, you're not going to be a flyer.
- 18:23Speaker 1: That's absolutely absolutely all right, buddy, gonna gonna be letting
- 18:26Speaker 1: you go in just a minute. But just I wanted
- 18:29Speaker 1: to dive into just one more topic for you, a
- 18:32Speaker 1: general topic as we're closing out the conversation here about
- 18:35Speaker 1: really what you're gonna be honing in on and looking
- 18:37Speaker 1: at closely throughout the rest of this Flyers preseason. You know,
- 18:42Speaker 1: I thought it was interesting how you mentioned Jamie Drysdale.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I think he's poised to have a really nice year
- 18:47Speaker 1: in terms of his versatility that he brings to this
- 18:50Speaker 1: Flyers defense. He's somebody I'm gonna be looking at to
- 18:55Speaker 1: What else are you gonna be honing in on during
- 18:56Speaker 1: this preseason here as we start to then enter the
- 18:59Speaker 1: regular season.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Yeah, Jamie Drysdale looks healthy, and that's kind of something
- 19:03Speaker 2: I want to look for another player, Sean Coutier, primarily
- 19:06Speaker 2: if he can be that one seed that we know
- 19:08Speaker 2: it can be, or even a decent two. See. I mean,
- 19:10Speaker 2: he had surgery for a lower ab lower core injury
- 19:14Speaker 2: that was bugging him last season, which probably played a
- 19:16Speaker 2: factor in him getting healthy scratched late in the season
- 19:19Speaker 2: because he wasn't playing up to one hundred percent or
- 19:21Speaker 2: even like ninety percent. So I want to see him
- 19:24Speaker 2: be healthy. I want to see Rasmus fress the line
- 19:26Speaker 2: and be healthy just so the Flyers can trade him.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I fifteen wants them because the Flyers have you know,
- 19:31Speaker 2: a few good right handed defensemen coming through the ranks
- 19:33Speaker 2: like Oliver Bank and people. I want to see more
- 19:35Speaker 2: out of Jet Luchenko. I want to see more from
- 19:38Speaker 2: Hunter McDonald because, like we've heard a lot about him.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I'm not sure why Keith Jones loves him. He looks
- 19:44Speaker 2: fine in the rookie game. He's big, it can be physical,
- 19:47Speaker 2: but I think the Flyers have that role filled with
- 19:49Speaker 2: Nick Seeler. Maybe he can be one of the first
- 19:51Speaker 2: call ups. And then, like there's not many roster spot
- 19:55Speaker 2: competitions like the if you look at the lineup, if
- 19:57Speaker 2: it stays healthy, you can pretty much pencil in almost
- 20:00Speaker 2: every guy. So it's the camp competitions between like Massa Morizzo,
- 20:04Speaker 2: Ali Luksel, Samutuomala to be like, okay, if a player
- 20:08Speaker 2: gets hurt, who's going to be that first call up?
- 20:10Speaker 2: Who's going to be that second call up? Because teams,
- 20:13Speaker 2: teams use more than twelve forwards, more than fifteen forwards,
- 20:16Speaker 2: more than eight or ten defensemen in a year, So
- 20:18Speaker 2: it's about seeing which guys are ready, and you know,
- 20:22Speaker 2: because because the front office has to have a plan
- 20:24Speaker 2: for Okay, if connecting gets hurt, who's coming up? Right?
- 20:27Speaker 2: If fair Big is hurt, who's coming up? So interested
- 20:30Speaker 2: to see how those guys fight for spots.
- 20:32Speaker 1: It's going to be interesting and also it's going to
- 20:35Speaker 1: be interesting to continue following what you're all doing at
