- 0:02Happy Sunday morning to everybody as the raging Cajun,
- 0:08the cook over there on Instagram would say what we talked about
- 0:13today. Well, this is an easy one.
- 0:20Last night I'm watching the dirt race out there at Ventura.
- 0:25Corey day one, Kyle Larson got spun out getting into Turn 1
- 0:31about 53 laps to go is what I remember.
- 0:36And all of a sudden, you know, people just like to be mean to
- 0:40me, which is fine. It's kind of a sport nowadays.
- 0:45People, I'm convinced that people that are depressed, they
- 0:49just get on their phone and they go.
- 0:50I'm not, I'm going to go over to Wallace's account.
- 0:52Just say something mean. So this man out of nowhere
- 0:58brings up a good subject. He says Herman, NASCAR's dying.
- 1:03He said I have a die cast souvenir store and I was very
- 1:15depressed that on I guess Black Friday, whatever it was
- 1:21yesterday. Well that would have been 2 days
- 1:26ago right? Friday he said nobody come into
- 1:30my store and maybe the people that did all they did was buy 2
- 1:38Joey Logano championship hats. I thought to myself, why ain't
- 1:44that funny? Because supposedly nobody likes
- 1:47Joey Logano because because he won.
- 1:51But I don't like the way he won. So the conversation in hand is a
- 1:56long one. I'm going to try to make it as
- 1:59quick as I can. Whatever happened to souvenirs?
- 2:08You know, you buy a hat and AT shirt, that's not a souvenir,
- 2:12that's clothing. Respond right here if you think
- 2:15I'm wrong about that. But you know, when you buy a a
- 2:18hoodie, if you ever buy a coffee with Kenny's shirt, you buy
- 2:24anything like that, that's clothing, NASCAR souvenirs and
- 2:31die cast, that business went to hell in a handbasket.
- 2:37And here's why. Because they lied to you.
- 2:42What they did was they, they make a Dale Earnhardt die cast
- 2:46and boy, you're all excited. You got that Dale Earnhardt die
- 2:49cast. And they say this is only one of
- 2:5210,000. Well, what would happen?
- 2:55Them souvenir companies, they'd get greedy and they'd make more.
- 3:01And you know, you're sitting there thinking, I've got 1 of
- 3:0310,000 Dale Senior die cast, the one that he won, you know, one
- 3:11of those big races in and, and all of a sudden you look up a
- 3:14year or two later and hell, they made 200,000 of them.
- 3:18Now that die cast is not worth anything.
- 3:23I got a friend that I basically lived 27 years around Charlie
- 3:30Springs and Trish, I know you're all going to hear about this.
- 3:35Charlie and Trish. I miss you all.
- 3:36Love you guys. They lived right across the
- 3:39street from me down there in Charlotte, NC.
- 3:45You'd go in their living room and there would be almost
- 3:48thousands, not hundreds, thousands of die cast he they
- 3:53would buy the bubble pack. They had a a living room that
- 3:58was made of good wood. You know, instead of sheetrock,
- 4:01it was wood like good, you know, the walls were wood And and they
- 4:05would take those bubble packs and Charlie and Trish, they
- 4:09loved racing so much that they would staple those bubble packs.
- 4:14And I remember Charlie saying it's going to be worth a lot of
- 4:17money one day. I got a lot of friends and fans
- 4:22say, boy, this can be worth a lot of money one day.
- 4:26And all of a sudden it was worth nothing.
- 4:29Hell, I remember when people would have NASCAR souvenir
- 4:34stores and that's what that man had.
- 4:38He had a souvenir store and he was so depressed.
- 4:42And you know how I responded to him 2 days ago on Friday, I said
- 4:47I am so sorry buddy, I love you. Put a little heart next to it.
- 4:53Now remember this man was coming at me.
- 4:55He wanted to be mean to me. He said Herman, NASCAR is dying.
- 5:00I have a diecast store and you know souvenirs store.
- 5:05All the trinkets, all the gadgetry NASCAR and sports had
- 5:09to sell. This is a brave man.
- 5:13As Rodger Penske said, be careful having all your
- 5:17portfolio in brick in mortar. In other words, be careful
- 5:22investing in brick and mortar. Now a home is an investment.
- 5:26This is an investment. They they nickname it brick and
- 5:30mortar. But if you going to go rent a
- 5:33store to sell souvenir die cast, there was a day that that
- 5:42worked. Those days are gone because the
- 5:46souvenir industry themselves, they got greedy and they killed
- 5:51it. It wasn't NASCAR.
- 5:53That was not NASCAR's fault. So what I would say to that man
- 5:58is I love you. And you know what happened?
- 6:03Thousands of people started getting online telling that man
- 6:08and they were all very nice and became a nice conversation
- 6:11because I told him I said I am so sorry, I love you.
- 6:15And everybody's like, buddy, you know, better than having a
- 6:17souvenir store for NASCAR. Those days of collecting all
- 6:23them, that gadgetry, it's over now.
- 6:26They still got that die cast. We're specifically talking about
- 6:30die cast right here and all the gadgetry and all the little
- 6:32people, that little pit stop people.
- 6:36But I mean, respond right here. You know what's funny, I just
- 6:43told somebody this the other night.
- 6:46As people get older, they start getting rid of their collection
- 6:51and they want to send it to me. Well you know what?
- 6:56I'm older now and I don't collect nothing.
- 6:58I don't want anything. Don't send me anything Mike.
- 7:03I have 3 girls and they don't want none of it.
- 7:07It was a sad day when I told Kim, you know, Kim, the girls
- 7:12don't want any of our junk. Be careful thinking what you got
- 7:17is going to be valuable and somebody's going to want it.
- 7:22I told somebody in that conversation yesterday, I said
- 7:26I'm, I'm, I'm getting, I'm getting a mage now too.
- 7:29And I don't want to collect nothing.
- 7:31I don't want nothing. All I want is a family, a home.
- 7:35And I won't run my dirt car and do these videos and give
- 7:39speeches and go on vacations. I don't want to collect
- 7:43anything. So the days of die cast and
- 7:48collecting things and having souvenir stores, they're gone.
- 7:52Now you're going to you're going to have some collectors out
- 7:56there still to this day. And and listen, I got a pile in
- 7:58there that I got to sign right now, but they're basically
- 8:02diecast cars, cards, cards, CARDS, believe it or not, it's
- 8:11like all this Fortnite stuff and all these kids, you know what's
- 8:15still going good collector cards, not the die cast.
- 8:21I still to this day sign lots of lots of cards like Panini
- 8:25America. But the day of collecting all
- 8:29that souvenir of those die cast people, they destroyed it.
- 8:33Oh, you've got 1 of 500. Come to find out, it's one of
- 8:37100,000. I know you all got lots of die
- 8:43cast story. Tell me your story right here.
