- 0:01We wish you a. Merry Christmas.
- 0:03We wish you a Merry Christmas. We wish you a Merry Christmas
- 0:07and a Happy New Year. Merry Christmas.
- 0:12Merry early Christmas, we're exactly one week away from
- 0:16Christmas Day. What the fuck?
- 0:20Where the fuck did this year go? Down the drain.
- 0:23I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding.
- 0:24It just went by really fast. It I think it went both down the
- 0:28drain and really fast. Speak for yourself had a
- 0:31fantastic. Year.
- 0:32This was a good year, this was a good year, but 20266 is gonna be
- 0:36way better. That sounds unreal. 2026.
- 0:40Do you remember, like in school writing down the year and it's
- 0:43like around the time you leave for break and you're like, Oh my
- 0:46gosh, when I come back I have to write 2012 instead of 2011?
- 0:51And then doing it for those first couple like days you're
- 0:53getting, they're like fuck. And they just like, erase it and
- 0:56then put the new number and stuff, Yeah.
- 0:58I feel like I still do that now but it's with dates like in my
- 1:01emails because we already have stuff planned for 20/26.
- 1:04I have to be like unfortunately we're busy.
- 1:06February 7th, 2025. Backspace 6.
- 1:13Yeah. It's, it's, it's been a good
- 1:14year. It's been a good year.
- 1:15A lot of good things this year, yeah.
- 1:18Oh, ow, oh, Jerry heard himself putting his beanie on.
- 1:22It's a new beanie. Haven't used it yet.
- 1:24Guys are bundled up. It's like getting cold, kind of,
- 1:27kind of. I'm wearing shorts and a beanie
- 1:29because he's cold. California.
- 1:31It's a California winter. Yeah, got my shorts, I got my
- 1:36hat. Things have been weird like it's
- 1:38been. Like, weirdly foggy in the
- 1:40morning, yeah. And kind of during the day, I
- 1:44work like pretty high up on a building and we look over, it's
- 1:47like 5:00 PM and there's like fog.
- 1:50That's weird. And it's not cold like today was
- 1:53warm. It was, it was like in the 70s,
- 1:55yeah, 80s, no, 70s. For us.
- 1:57It was at 70s. I don't know what it is.
- 1:59I tried to Google it and I couldn't figure it out.
- 2:01Apparently in parts of California there's the thing
- 2:03called the tool fog, but that's in like the central basin is.
- 2:07That just smog. No, it's like actual fog, but
- 2:10because it's like kind of like in the valley, yeah.
- 2:13So there's a whole like sheet of fog that that.
- 2:17Area that makes sense. It's like clouds and stuff, like
- 2:20certain systems get trapped by the mountains and stuff.
- 2:23And because it's like a bowl, just there, like a soup.
- 2:26That's literally what it was. You're so smart.
- 2:27That's crazy. Why do I know that?
- 2:31I don't know like 9th grade by all it 10th grade chemist.
- 2:38We gave you guys homework last week.
- 2:39Yes, we did. Did you do it or was it a due
- 2:42today? Due today.
- 2:44Turn on your assignments. OK, you had a.
- 2:46Whole week to watch every episode of Heated Rivalry.
- 2:49Completed or not, you need to submit it right now.
- 2:51Yeah, give us your review on episodes one through 3 and no
- 2:54one through 4 at this point and list who your favorite man is.
- 2:58Now go GO-123-GO. That's a good one.
- 3:03That was pretty good one. Interesting.
- 3:05I I for a first choice that is interesting.
- 3:07That's a fan favorite if you've seen like.
- 3:09The the the fan edits. Yeah, teach their own.
- 3:13Do you have a favorite character so far?
- 3:16The smoothie, the the purple smoothie with banana banana that
- 3:22like charm? Main character?
- 3:23Yeah, main character. Honestly, that banana smoothie
- 3:26led to a lot of character development and plot
- 3:28development. Somehow the smoothie stayed
- 3:31constant. That was episode.
- 3:33Three. And I was like in bed, kicking
- 3:34my feet. It was so cute.
- 3:36And guess what? Even after everything, that's
- 3:39movie still on the menu. It is, and honestly it should be
- 3:41called the Scott. It should.
- 3:44Well, what do you think? Thoughts up to up to now?
- 3:47OK, thoughts up to now. If you guys watched it, thank
- 3:49you. You guys are watching a really
- 3:50good TV show that has a lot of queer representation, sports
- 3:53representation. Every character we've seen so
- 3:56far has turned out to be some sort of gay.
- 4:00It is a little spicy, a little it's very spicy.
- 4:05Or I'm like watching and I'm like, he, he, ha ha.
- 4:09Like legs kicking, legs kicking. I'm pulling at my collar because
- 4:13I'm sweating a little bit. Jerry, what is what is it like
- 4:17watching that show as a heterosexual male?
- 4:19OK, OK, I need everyone to take a seep because I'm about to.
- 4:26I'm about to dive deep into emotions and the soul.
- 4:31Oh shit, watching this show, Of course there's sex scenes.
- 4:36Of course there's like spicy bits, but like the show itself
- 4:39in the writing does really, really, really well.
- 4:42It hits it on the on like on the nose because the yearning the
- 4:46yearning that they. That their experience,
- 4:49experience feel for each other. Everything, every little thing,
- 4:52every feeling that they have for each other, every like, whether
- 4:56it's like the, the Super high passionate feelings or like the,
- 5:01the missing and the longing and the just all the yearning once
- 5:04again, the yearning I've I felt that, I feel that, I felt that,
- 5:08I feel that and I continue to feel that.
- 5:09So it's it, it hits home because I know exactly what they've felt
- 5:14the long. Game exactly the did I go too
- 5:17far or did I not go far enough? The the I'm I'm doing the
- 5:22Cynthia Revo doing my hitting my the side of my head meme right
- 5:26now. Do it the guys this last episode
- 5:29was so good. You see these two characters
- 5:31kind of 04 characters but the main story at least from my
- 5:35interpretation is the 2 main guys, Shane and Ilya.
- 5:38They they come at it quick like 2.
- 5:43You can say that again. Two objects, 2 forceful objects
- 5:46just hitting each other over and over and over and over.
- 5:50Seismic plates. Yes, just banging.
- 5:53And over the span of months, years, we're in 4 episodes and
- 5:58there's been like four or five time jumps.
- 6:01It's so it's so good. It keeps you invested in what's
- 6:06going to happen because it, it kind of plays with, what's the
- 6:11word for it, an ebb and a flow. Like sometimes they'll come
- 6:17crashing in, a wave, crashing in, and it'll either draw back
- 6:21immediately while one character is like dealing with the
- 6:24repercussions of their actions, or it kind of like settles and
- 6:27comes back kind of slowly. Most of the scenes happen in,
- 6:30like, I had so much knowledge before in cinema and now I can't
- 6:37remember the terms, but when you have those scene after scene of
- 6:41like montages, yeah, montage. Oh, Jerry, you're so smart.
- 6:44Just you're 2 for two today, dude, let's go.
- 6:46I love how the story plays out sometimes in montages 'cause you
- 6:50see that development happened so quick, especially with some of
- 6:53my favorite characters, Kip and Scott, you, that one was so like
- 6:57sweet as opposed to the raunchiness.
- 6:59That's the main story. And that one kind of hit home
- 7:02with the they're they're dealing with.
- 7:06I mean, all the couples are dealing with what's what it's
- 7:09like being in the closet and navigating that in sports, in
- 7:12sports, which is sports. They might be like uncovering a
- 7:15whole thing that I'm not aware exists because I don't pay
- 7:19attention to sports. Yeah, but a reality but.
- 7:22It has to. Yeah, it has to exist.
- 7:23Yeah. If people are everywhere, you
- 7:25just don't know. They those montages, I think are
- 7:29also not those kind of montages where like you feel like you're
- 7:32missing out because they do really, really well at like
- 7:36explaining well whatever's going on at that point, but you feel
- 7:39like you're not missing out. No, it it might time skip, but
- 7:41you're just like OK, like I'm still there with you're.
- 7:44Experiencing the exact same emotions that they are and those
- 7:46montages. Exactly.
- 7:48And this last episode left us on the craziest cliffhanger.
- 7:53Yeah, we're not going to tell you much just so you guys can
- 7:55watch because this might be spoilery if you haven't started
- 7:59already, which you should. This and Welcome to Dairy have
- 8:02been the two episodes or the two shows that I've been hooked on.
- 8:05I. Need to finish?
- 8:06Welcome to dairy. And Jerry started heated heated
- 8:08rivalry before I did. I was on the fence until he said
- 8:12you should watch it. And if I'm saying you should
- 8:14watch it, that doesn't mean shit because I don't watch those
- 8:16because I don't watch movies. But when I do it's.
- 8:21It's a good one. It hits.
- 8:22Yeah, so once again, just besides the love making and the
- 8:27passion. And all the butts you see, You
- 8:29see so many. Of the ass so much no like the
- 8:32the the show itself is just so much more than that.
- 8:34It's important, but it, it's just the feelings that you get
- 8:37like that you feel that you're seeing and how they're played
- 8:41out and like you said, over months, over years and like that
- 8:44is, it's, it's crazy. It's really good writing.
- 8:46So, and it's based on a book. It is a gay storyline, but it's
- 8:49written in a female gaze because it's written by a woman.
- 8:54And honestly, a lot. Yeah, the book is written by a
- 8:56woman. It's for book talk.
- 8:58Girlies, if you're not sold yet, this was.
- 9:01It's a book series, a very popular 1 written by a woman and
- 9:05from what I've seen on Tiktok. I have yet to start reading it
- 9:08because I'm reading so much right now, but the girls say
- 9:11it's top tier. I believe them.
- 9:14I believe them. And look, they put smut into ATV
- 9:17show. I can only hope my fingers are
- 9:19crossing them. Prank that we get this high
- 9:22quality of storytelling in an ACOTAR series.
- 9:25That's what it deserves, yes. That's what it deserves.
- 9:28It deserves this. Or better.
- 9:29Yeah, yeah, not the I this is like I, I would like to say
- 9:35watered down. Oh yes.
- 9:37Because, you know, because it's. It's for TV, it's still TV.
- 9:40You could only do so much without giving it like a adult
- 9:43content like. This is just full on just.
- 9:44Watching full on nighttime videos?
- 9:47Yep. Yep.
- 9:48So I I can only imagine what the books are are like and what
- 9:53they're I don't know. Are they still coming out like
- 9:55are is that? Serious.
- 9:55I don't know. I'm not.
- 9:56Fully because I know there's like a baseball 1 and no now
- 10:00obviously hockey and. No, the all the whole series is
- 10:03about hockey players. I.
- 10:04Think, oh, OK, I thought it was it was like baseball and there
- 10:06was like. Other sports, no, I think it's
- 10:07all hockey. But I've seen people kind of
- 10:10connect the dots and be like, hey, by the way, in episode 4,
- 10:13this specific character is mentioned and they're the main
- 10:15character in. This book, this.
- 10:17Book #4 book #2 or something. So maybe I need to binge that
- 10:22during my time off for the. Heater heated rival reverse yeah
- 10:28I just look love HR verse love is love and and.
- 10:33It's passionate. And man, when it's passionate,
- 10:36it's universal. Yeah.
- 10:37Doesn't matter. Doesn't matter.
- 10:38Doing the pounding. Yeah.
- 10:40If you feel it, you feel it. And if you don't or haven't, I
- 10:43hope you do one day. Yeah, or just live vicariously
- 10:45through the shell. Yeah.
- 10:47So that was our heat of rivalry segment.
- 10:49Just to get it out of the way. We told you you had homework.
- 10:51Hopefully you did it. But this week we're still in the
- 10:54festive spirit. We've got some some lore drops.
- 10:58There's some lore drops, you got the new update, the lore
- 11:00updates, the more update. This is a Christmas season.
- 11:03Welcome to our Christmas episode.
- 11:05We hope you are bombarded with love and happiness and gifts.
- 11:08And if you're not, if you don't believe in capitalism, then then
- 11:12just eat. Eat food.
- 11:13Yeah, eat food. Make food.
- 11:15Eat food. Sing yourself a little Christmas
- 11:16song. We wish you but the Alvin the
- 11:20Chipmunks version. That is an attack on me because
- 11:23that did exist on my iPod. I think my brother bought that
- 11:27soundtrack on iTunes when we were like 9.
- 11:29I. Was going to say you can find
- 11:31any version of whatever song in that high pitched Alvin and the
- 11:34Chipmunks and then you're set. If it doesn't exist, I'll make
- 11:37it. Yeah, downloaded download MP3
- 11:39converter or YouTube video to MP3 converter.
- 11:42Pitch it up. Easy, easy.
- 11:45I might have had a couple songs. Crazy smells crazy.
- 11:48That's the one I remember. Baby, I just, I can't even and
- 11:53then you're going to try before before I make everyone deaf.
- 11:57OK, so we have two, two Christmas traditions that we're
- 12:01going to bring to you today and give you some behind the scenes,
- 12:04some back story, some history lessons on why they came about,
- 12:08how they came about. It looks like Jerry's pretty
- 12:11excited. Do you want to be the first one?
- 12:13I would like to because you went first last time, so I would like
- 12:17to go first. I will be talking about
- 12:22something we all know, we all love, I think.
- 12:25I hope you're not my friend if you don't.
- 12:27There's a there's some Bah humbugs out there.
- 12:31No matter what, this kind of season just reminds me that you
- 12:34can never forget how beautiful Christmas trees are.
- 12:40Forget. That was a good pun, I'll give
- 12:42you that. I wasn't expecting it.
- 12:46Birch, please. I love Christmas more than you.
- 12:51OK, Birch, I said. Birch.
- 12:53Birch tree. I'll leave it at that.
- 12:57I'll come back to that. Anyways, I'm going to be talking
- 13:00about the Christmas tree. The tree.
- 13:02The tree. The tree that lights up our
- 13:04living rooms, our Bay windows, your closet, car, the office
- 13:10space. The Christmas tree that we rock
- 13:12around. The rock around that Christmas
- 13:14tree, Exactly. OK, Brenda, the the Christmas
- 13:18tree is that it's perfect for the killer.
- 13:20The hide behind OK pin mark bookmark this.
- 13:24I have something I need to tell you at the end of this episode.
- 13:26Don't forget I will be talking about the Christmas tree, how it
- 13:29came about, what the earliest origins are and historic
- 13:33historically. I hope accurate, but if not then
- 13:36it's fine. You ready?
- 13:39Yes. Do you know how you can tell
- 13:41Christmas tree? Apart from what?
- 13:45Just do you know how you can like a regular tree?
- 13:47Yeah, just. Oh, that's a.
- 13:48Christmas tree. Yeah, They're like, shaped like
- 13:49triangles, OK. And they got needles.
- 13:51This is even simple, even more simple than.
- 13:53What they got? Christmas lights.
- 13:57I don't know, because of the way it is.
- 13:59OK, The Christmas tree has a deep roots.
- 14:04Oh my God, Jerry, is it going to be OK?
- 14:08I'm not going to stifle your creativity.
- 14:10Keep going. Evergreens were used in ancient
- 14:13Egypt and Rome long before holiday playlists existed.
- 14:18Germany, however, gets the credit for turning them into
- 14:21candlelit show stoppers we recognize today.
- 14:24By the 1800's, the tradition had branched out to America.
- 14:29I am clocking so many puns right now.
- 14:31Thank you. Long before Christianity, people
- 14:34prized plants that stayed green through the winter.
- 14:37Evergreen bows were hung over doors and windows as symbols of
- 14:40protection, health and the promise that life would return
- 14:43after the winter solstice, or the longest night of the year.
- 14:47In ancient Egypt, homes were filled with green palms to
- 14:50celebrate the sun God RA RA RA. I'm sorry, I hope that's not
- 14:55offensive, but it better not be regaining strength, a sign that
- 14:58brighter days were on the way. By the 16th century, Germans
- 15:03were bringing decorated trees indoors, sometimes building
- 15:06wooden Christmas pyramids adorned with greenery and
- 15:09candles when full trees weren't an option.
- 15:12Legend has it that Martin Luther added candles to a tree after
- 15:17being inspired by Starlight shining through evergreens,
- 15:20proof that this tradition has been lit for centuries.
- 15:23Question. Is Martin Luther relations or
- 15:26related to Martin Luther King? No, OK, this is the I think it's
- 15:30like. You said 16th century.
- 15:31I don't know if you were still in that time frame.
- 15:33Yes, OK, it should be 6th century Germany.
- 15:36Martin Luther. I do have a tab here somewhere.
- 15:40I think he's like a philosopher. Like one of those great thinkers
- 15:44like Plato or something. Yes, OK, I'll bring it up later.
- 15:48I do have it. I just can't remember right now.
- 15:50So Queen Victoria helped Christmas trees really take root
- 15:53in America in 1846. An illustration of the beloved
- 15:57Queen, Prince Albert and their children gathered around a
- 16:00decorated tree made the tradition instantly fashionable.
- 16:05What was stylish at court quickly caught on in Britain and
- 16:08along trend conscious Americans bandwagoners.
- 16:12The Christmas tree had officially arrived by the late
- 16:161800s. Ornaments from Germany were
- 16:18decking American halls and tree popularity grew nationwide.
- 16:22Europeans favored modest 4 foot trees, while Americans went big
- 16:26of. Course we did of.
- 16:27Course Florida ceiling Big In the early 1900s, most American
- 16:32families decorated with handmade ornaments, while German
- 16:35Americans stuck to apples, nuts and sweets.
- 16:39Popcorn, garlands added color, and electricity soon lit things
- 16:42up. Literally, literally.
- 16:46With electric lights, trees glowed for days, appeared in
- 16:49town squares and became a holiday staple in American
- 16:52homes. Evergreens of all kinds show up
- 16:55for an American Christmas. Pine, spruce, cedar, Cypress.
- 17:00But the fir still reigns supreme.
- 17:03Whether it's Balsam, Douglas, Fraser or Noble, furs win with
- 17:08sturdy branches, a classic Piney scent and needles that don't
- 17:11make a mess of the holidays. I beg to differ.
- 17:14All the pine trees that I've. Had they always do?
- 17:16They always drop the needles. Yeah, that's this is.
- 17:18I just set up a big tree at work and it would and it would drop
- 17:21it. It made a mess.
- 17:22I'm like, girl, do we have a vacuum in here?
- 17:24No, Nope. I picked them up by hand, each
- 17:28bit of a job by needle. God damn it, it doesn't even
- 17:30smell good either. You can't even pick them up and
- 17:31smell. You smell your.
- 17:32Hand No, let's scratch them my arms and give me a rash.
- 17:35What? What kind of tree is that?
- 17:36A fake one. The biggest tree ever selected
- 17:40for the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was a 100 foot
- 17:44tall Norway Spruce from Killingworth, Connecticut
- 17:48displayed in 1999. The tradition began in 1931 when
- 17:53construction workers set up a simple tree during the Great
- 17:55Depression. Today's version is more extra
- 17:58draped in 10s of thousands of lights and topped with a massive
- 18:01crystal star. So I did make a list which I
- 18:06hope is semi accurate of just different countries and
- 18:11traditions around the world and what their version of a
- 18:15Christmas tree is if it's not just a tree itself.
- 18:18OK, so the Christmas tree takes many forms.
- 18:22In Canada some people adopted the tradition through German
- 18:24settlers. So they have a very similar
- 18:26Christmas tree set up. Mexico center celebrations on
- 18:30the nativity scene. Sometimes adding small, adding a
- 18:33smart artificial tree or I think in my case and my like direct
- 18:39family, we do the nativity scene under the tree.
- 18:41Oh. Cute.
- 18:43Great Britain traditionally decorates Norway spruce trees.
- 18:47Greenland imports trees and decorates them with candles.
- 18:49That seems like a fire hazard, but the my lab lends tree
- 18:53traditions with nativity displays.
- 18:56Ireland favors lights, tinsel and either a star or Angel
- 18:59Topper. Makes sense.
- 19:00I think Catholicism is pretty big out there, yeah.
- 19:03I don't. I don't know.
- 19:04Sure. I'll take your word for you.
- 19:05They trust you. Sure, Italy focuses on the
- 19:09Persepio nativity scene, sometimes paired with a pyramid
- 19:13like structure called A and I want to I'm going to butcher
- 19:16this. No, Joe, you're Italian.
- 19:17Lock in. Chepple Sepple.
- 19:20I think it's. Chepple Think Chepple Chepple
- 19:23sounds good. Germany, the birth place of many
- 19:26Christmas traditions, popularized candle lit trees and
- 19:29secret decorating before Christmas Eve.
- 19:32Wait, so they don't decorate until the night before?
- 19:34Like Christmas Eve? Christmas Eve.
- 19:36I think so. That's so stressful.
- 19:38Why would you want to do that? I mean, if it's your tradition,
- 19:41that's what you do. But we have to do it in time for
- 19:44tomorrow. Procrastination.
- 19:46It's like a homework assignment. It seems about right.
- 19:48Do the 24th. Do the 20. 4th do the 24th like
- 19:51you, you do it on the. 24th do it on the 24th so Oh my God, you
- 19:55just. Gave me another pun.
- 19:56OK, keep going. From humble evergreens to global
- 20:01glow UPS, the Christmas tree tradition has truly branched
- 20:06out. Do you know how many puns you
- 20:09had written in there? Like no take count.
- 20:10No, I want you to count and let us know.
- 20:13OK, I will. I'll throw it in there.
- 20:15Yeah. And if you're listening, comment
- 20:18how many did you hear that? 'D be cool because then OK.
- 20:21Imagine you get different numbers.
- 20:22You have a pun you didn't even realize.
- 20:24If you like, that was a pun. Like, no, it wasn't, but yes, it
- 20:26was. So I love archery.
- 20:29Archery that we set up this year.
- 20:31We kept some staples that we put every year.
- 20:33My favorite 1? So many favorite ones.
- 20:36The one that, just like always, brings out a laugh is the
- 20:40Unicorn riding AT Rex. Oh my God.
- 20:43Love that one. But we have a lot of good ones
- 20:46on there. We have some T&D things, we have
- 20:47some gifts. We have just obviously the cute
- 20:51little ones that are like supposed to represent me and
- 20:53Dulce. We do go with a theme every
- 20:56year. This year we went more classic
- 20:59like Regal Tree. The middle.
- 21:04Yeah, not too flashy. We use like ribbon.
- 21:08We kept it like using like classic colors, classic
- 21:10Christmas colors, the Reds, the greens, the golds.
- 21:13But yeah, I think my tree and I have really good chemistry.
- 21:17Added to the count. Added to the count.
- 21:20Do you feel that I can feel a presents?
- 21:26Oh, my goodness, don't say that. That ties into my what?
- 21:29I have to tell you. Oh, what?
- 21:31Yeah. Should I just tell you now?
- 21:33Yeah. I was asleep.
- 21:36You were literally. I had just fallen asleep.
- 21:38Like, I want to sleep. It was like maybe 11.
- 21:41OK. I woke up because I heard
- 21:43someone clearing their throat in my room.
- 21:47Not like my neighbors, like, 'cause it's muffled.
- 21:49Like even though sometimes like I'd be hearing them yell, it's
- 21:52still muffled. You can tell no.
- 21:53I woke up because I heard something like in the room clear
- 21:57their throat like A and I shot out of bed, looked at my clock,
- 22:02saw that it was only like 1130. So I had been in asleep for like
- 22:0630 maybe 40 minutes. I was so scared.
- 22:09I was like, I, I thought someone was in my living room.
- 22:12Like did I leave the door open because I grabbed my phone.
- 22:16I have my flashlight on. I didn't even pick up anything
- 22:18heavy. I just went out there.
- 22:20You need something next to you. I know.
- 22:23Which I will have by this time this episode drops.
- 22:25I'm getting no funny ideas. Well, actually I see it now,
- 22:27but. You're giving me a slugger, a
- 22:29Louisville Slugger. Dude, some Louisville Slugger
- 22:32with some nails through the top. Dude I opened my door which I
- 22:36can't even be sneaky because it's wrapped in wrapping paper.
- 22:39Because of you. I literally opened it.
- 22:41I'm like, there's no point. So I just swung it open, empty
- 22:46lights off. I went up to the door to make
- 22:48sure it was locked. Yep, it was locked.
- 22:50But that was I think like last Friday night or Saturday night.
- 22:55OK, well, no, not Saturday night.
- 22:58Saturday night was my birthday, so I think it was like Sunday or
- 23:00Monday. Wow, dude, just randomly because
- 23:04you brought it up about feeling a presence.
- 23:05But yes, I felt a presence. I was so scared.
- 23:08And I I've been saying on the podcast, like in my apartment
- 23:11that I wanted to experience something.
- 23:13Thank you experienced it. Don't have to do it again.
- 23:17You're welcome here. I was dreaming but it for it to
- 23:20wake me up out of my dream that. Spooky, you're not welcome.
- 23:26You're not welcome in our lives. Do not follow us anywhere.
- 23:29Yeah, leave what Jerry said. Maybe it was the ghost of
- 23:35Christmas past or something, because I didn't put up a
- 23:37Christmas tree. I wasn't in the festive mood
- 23:41this year, Grinch. I have a whole situation in my
- 23:44apartment. I don't my leasing terms are up
- 23:49in the air right now. So I was like, why would I
- 23:51decorate? I don't know if I'm going to be
- 23:52here in the next like 2 months. True.
- 23:54And I don't want to go digging in the garage.
- 23:56That's also true and invalid. But also I am going to the way
- 23:59better than that. I'm going to forgive you because
- 24:01you have lights. True, I at least put lights in
- 24:04my window. Yep, Yep, Yep, that counts.
- 24:06Jerry and those had to decorate my door and they put tinsel
- 24:08around my TV, which I love. It's very not Gotti.
- 24:12Gotti is not the word. It's very like kind of retro Y
- 24:18like it's very kitsch. That's the word.
- 24:22Isn't that the egg? Breakfast.
- 24:24No, that's a quiche. Oh, gotcha, gotcha.
- 24:25Man, I almost said quiche gotcha, but I corrected myself.
- 24:27It's kitsch. It's very it's kitschy.
- 24:29Love it kitschy. So that's all my my holiday
- 24:32decor. But your your treat is very
- 24:33cute. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 24:35And also we got that new star this year that lights up.
- 24:37Oh, yeah. So that's also cool because
- 24:38we've had the same starved for a while now.
- 24:41So that was pretty cool. I loved, I love putting up the
- 24:43decorations. I love putting up the lights.
- 24:45I love Christmas. Trees.
- 24:46I love just the season. It's cold.
- 24:49You go outside, you're like, I need a sweater and I'm still
- 24:52cold. The heights the best.
- 24:53Christmas trees also have a sentimental value, so I'm not
- 24:56surprised I didn't put one. My cry telling the story.
- 24:59But my birthday is in December. December 4th.
- 25:03My dad's birthday was December 5th, the day after my SO not
- 25:08every year, but every couple of years, my dad would come home,
- 25:11like on my birthday and be like me home.
- 25:13This especially, like growing up there was areas we didn't have a
- 25:16lot of money. Yeah.
- 25:17And he would say that like my birthday present was the
- 25:20Christmas tree. That's beautiful.
- 25:24Last year, last year when I was putting up the Christmas tree, I
- 25:27did put one up. Yeah, it's at work.
- 25:28I did put that one up. Yeah.
- 25:30But last year was like the first year without my dad.
- 25:33And I was there with my supervisor putting up the
- 25:35Christmas tree. And like, it'll take a little
- 25:37break because I did get emotional.
- 25:40I put up, I put up a different Christmas tree, went to the
- 25:44cemetery, and I got my dad a little Grinch tree, the little
- 25:48grump trees from Trader Joe's. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:51Because my brother went the week before and he put some Christmas
- 25:53decor and I'm like, let me, let me put a little tree on too.
- 25:55That's awesome. So I don't have one here, but at
- 25:57least. No.
- 25:58It's like, gave one to my dad, yeah.
- 26:00Yeah, that's beautiful, friend. That's beautiful.
- 26:04I did one last year and last year I committed to a theme.
- 26:07Last year I only put red bows all over the tree, no ornaments.
- 26:11It was literally just little red bows.
- 26:14I don't remember. I I have not invited people over
- 26:18to my apartment until like the last like 2 months and I've
- 26:21lived here for a year plus. I don't remember that.
- 26:24I feel like I would have remembered that I.
- 26:26We weren't recording. That's true.
- 26:27I literally would never invite you over.
- 26:29That's right, we weren't friends.
- 26:31I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who saw that Christmas.
- 26:33Hated me. I didn't hate you, I just didn't
- 26:35trust you. Oh, do you?
- 26:37Trust me now. I mean, you're here.
- 26:39I don't know. You always got an eye on me.
- 26:42I do. Because you're so handsome.
- 26:43The whole, whole you never leave me.
- 26:46I never leave you down forever. Never leave, I got you.
- 26:49Lifting you up 24/7 hey? Bro you got?
- 26:51Me, I got you a mink hole. Well I hope you enjoyed the
- 26:56Christmas tree little bit lore. If you have any questions, don't
- 26:59ask because that's all the research I did.
- 27:02He's not going to answer. Questions I will not answer.
- 27:04Questions. He's not taking them at this
- 27:05time. I'm not, I'm not going to be
- 27:08forgiving or I already already said that one.
- 27:12That one wasn't funny. So yeah, guys, hope you enjoyed.
- 27:15If you have any Christmas trees or any sort of holiday
- 27:17decorations that is special to you or do you think you're cool,
- 27:20send them all away. Yeah, pretty.
- 27:21That'd be pretty cool. That's a cute tradition to have,
- 27:24like ornaments that you bring out every year.
- 27:27So you, you just bought one too, right?
- 27:29We went to the Tamale. Festival.
- 27:30Yep, Tamale festival. We bought a little pinata
- 27:34because we now I'm forgetting which one we bought.
- 27:38Got a blue pinata. Yeah, Yeah.
- 27:39It's like it's and it's like the ceramic ones that are like
- 27:41painted because there was that one or the little metal ones
- 27:44that look like a pinata but also look like a Lantern.
- 27:47Yeah, really spiky. I mean, it was cute, but it just
- 27:49safety hazard. Yeah, safety hazard.
- 27:52But yeah, it was really edgy. Like fuck, it's really fucking
- 27:55edgy. But this one was is really nice
- 27:58and Ken has a bird on it and a little heart, I think.
- 28:00So how am I not going to say no? So yeah, that was the newest
- 28:03edition and it was really it's heavy.
- 28:05So like we put on the tree and it like.
- 28:06Brought down the branch OK. It brings down that little
- 28:09branch make. Sure, you put on a real sturdy
- 28:101. Curve the, curve the corner.
- 28:13Fake trees for the win. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 28:15Love that. Yeah, love a real tree.
- 28:17But that's a can. You got candles, You got
- 28:19plugins. Love a real tree.
- 28:20Love a real tree. That's a lot of work.
- 28:23True and Christmas. A fake one, like a good one is
- 28:25an investment these days. Like you'll use that for years.
- 28:28Especially when you get it real cheap.
- 28:30Oh my God, in high school I had my own Christmas tree.
- 28:32Like I went to like the 99 and I had a little like 4 foot one
- 28:37that I would decorate in my room, like at the foot of my
- 28:39bed. That's so cool.
- 28:40That's so. That's adorable.
- 28:42Thank you. Our first, I have to say sorry,
- 28:46our first Christmas when I moved in with Dulce, we bought, I was
- 28:51like we got to get a real tree. Like it's our first year we got
- 28:53to get a real tree. So we got a real tree.
- 28:54It was like a little 3 foot. Little a little real $29.00
- 28:58tree. Yeah, it was.
- 28:59It was the best. Like I love that tree.
- 29:02And you decorate it together. Love is real, guys.
- 29:05Maybe that's why I didn't put one up.
- 29:07I had no one to decorate with. How's the Grinch?
- 29:11You just told the one. Oh my God.
- 29:13That would have made you even more the grin.
- 29:14I saw a TikTok video today of Ashby, you know Ashby of The
- 29:17Lorax fame dressed as the Grinch and she body slammed a Christmas
- 29:21tree. What like full on squirreled
- 29:24into the air, arms wide, legs wide and just body slammed the
- 29:28tree. Squirrel suit?
- 29:30No Grinch suit. Grinch.
- 29:33Suit Well, thank you for the Christmas tree lesson.
- 29:35Thank you. That's so funny how things all
- 29:37date back to. The Germans, no.
- 29:41Oh, I mean, yeah, Europe. Yeah, Europe.
- 29:43Europe. Mine also Christmas themed.
- 29:47No way. We give a little hint when we
- 29:49sing you a little song at the start of.
- 29:50This I I don't even know. Jerry had no idea.
- 29:52Jumped on. I just said we can.
- 29:53Yeah, let's harmonize. Yeah, but I would like to tell
- 29:56you guys about the history of Christmas caroling.
- 30:00Wow, I walked into that, Yeah. We did this the other day, kind
- 30:05of. We knocked on Lizette's door and
- 30:07I tried to sing a song and no one joined me.
- 30:10Oh, no, I don't do it next door. Yeah, yeah, that was next door.
- 30:12Yeah, Oh my God. Speaking of Christmas tree, we
- 30:14went to a house. God, that's right.
- 30:17Filled with 5th 5858 Christmas. Trees outside, yeah.
- 30:22So it's 50 text me outside because there was there was. 56
- 30:25indoors and two outside, yeah. No, no 58 indoors with two
- 30:29outside, so it would have been 60 until what I can say stood
- 30:32there. Oh, maybe I.
- 30:33Our friends in. It don't matter.
- 30:35There's a lot of Christmas trees.
- 30:36Our friend's neighbor has this thing, this yearly thing where
- 30:41they fill their house with Christmas trees, 50 plus, all
- 30:46themed around different like things, just, yeah, themes.
- 30:49They had a movie tree. They had a sports tree that had
- 30:52like a a racket, like a tennis racket, cleats.
- 30:56An Angel tree and upside down Angel tree.
- 30:58That was my favorite. That was my favorite tree.
- 31:00Fantastic. Every Christmas village that
- 31:02spanned a whole dining room table up against the wall.
- 31:05Just beautiful house, beautiful house, beautiful house.
- 31:08But then with like a tree, no matter where you look, there's a
- 31:10Christmas tree. Every corner of every single
- 31:12room had a Christmas tree. Unique.
- 31:14Maybe two or three. There was no replicas, there was
- 31:17no like oh they look, no every single tree was unique, one of
- 31:20one. My favorite was one that was in
- 31:22the the guest bedroom that was fully just red like the tree
- 31:27had. Cool, they're noche.
- 31:30Why not? What is it in English?
- 31:32Oh. Poinsettias.
- 31:34Yes, it was entirely poinsettias.
- 31:36So I had little ones, I had big leaves, I had red bows.
- 31:40It was gorgeous. Yeah, yeah.
- 31:42The feathered one in the bathroom, one of the bathrooms
- 31:44there was a feathered. There was a feathered tree.
- 31:47It was a little small one, but that one was cool too.
- 31:49So funny my friend's dad just said was that stat?
- 31:52Just like you guys want to go see the trees where we're
- 31:55feeling a little buzz. There's like, yeah, 12 people.
- 31:59Yeah, we all go single file next door.
- 32:01Like we're on a field trip. Knock, knock.
- 32:03They want to see your trees. Walks right in.
- 32:05Yep. No permission.
- 32:07We're just like, hi, we want to see your trees.
- 32:10He's like, come in. Yeah, they're super, super sweet
- 32:14couple. Like classy.
- 32:16Classy as hell together. So nice, they said.
- 32:19Oh, we have punch. You guys want punch?
- 32:22Yeah, super, super welcoming, super nice.
- 32:25It's like I can, I can only I was describing it doesn't do it
- 32:29justice because it was just beautiful like.
- 32:31Everywhere you look, there's a Christmas tree.
- 32:33You couldn't look at anywhere without seeing one, at least in
- 32:35your peripherals. And think about it like 60
- 32:38trees. And she decorated all herself.
- 32:40Every single one. He was giving her her graces.
- 32:43He's like, oh, this is all her. This is all her idea.
- 32:46She decorates all of them. Yeah, she said, oh, I didn't do.
- 32:49We had one extra, but I got tired after 50 trees.
- 32:53Yeah, girl, I'd be tired too. Take your feet up.
- 32:56I got tired of the first one. And they said they start pulling
- 33:00them out of storage in like October.
- 33:01October yeah, they and yeah and they have a full like a storage
- 33:04with all the trees yeah, that's so cool.
- 33:06That's goals. Fucking.
- 33:07Goals. Truth.
- 33:08You. If you love something, you do
- 33:10it. Beat it until it's a dead horse.
- 33:13What's the saying? I don't know.
- 33:15Isn't it? Don't beat a dead horse.
- 33:16Sorry, do not beat off a horse. OK guys, we're going to go back
- 33:21to what? No, no.
- 33:23So Christmas caroling, I've never done it.
- 33:26Like legitly, I've never gone door to door.
- 33:28I don't know my neighbors like that.
- 33:29That's true. I am a performer.
- 33:31I'm sure you. Sing it in your room is enough
- 33:33for them. I don't.
- 33:36I don't sing here. The singing is only in my car,
- 33:38not even in the shower. Oh, as well as thin.
- 33:42Leaving, so I've heard. Leaving it at that, so I've
- 33:44heard. Christmas caroling.
- 33:47I'm going to give you another short story.
- 33:50It's the coldest night of the year.
- 33:53You and your other peasant friends are bundled up head to
- 33:56toe, layers deep in clothing. You're braving the winter storm,
- 34:00blanketing the village in white snow.
- 34:03You've not had a full meal in weeks.
- 34:06You trudge through inches of snow.
- 34:08By the time you reach the Lord's house, your clothes are
- 34:10drenched. Your teeth are chattering.
- 34:12Your nose burns from the snot crystallizing in the freezing
- 34:15temperatures. You knock on the 1st house.
- 34:18You find candlelight flickering through the cracks of the wooden
- 34:21shutters. In unison you sing, wishing for
- 34:24good health and the well-being of your neighbors.
- 34:26In return, you hope for them to return the grace and grant you a
- 34:29warm meal and drink. Your song ends, the only sound
- 34:34the ruffling of cloth as you stand there shivering.
- 34:37Someone inside snuff the candles.
- 34:39The door remains closed. You refuse to retreat.
- 34:43You start another song, louder this time.
- 34:46Under your breath. You curse the home owner.
- 34:48You will not leave without a full belly.
- 34:51Or else oh fuck, wait. Caroling was was an entire event
- 35:00and LED to violence. What?
- 35:02In case you didn't know, no we what we know as a modern day
- 35:09Christmas caroling stems from the middle-aged tradition known
- 35:12as waseling. Sounds like Pokémon.
- 35:16Her the Merriam Webster website to wasel is to sing carols,
- 35:21popular songs, or ballads of religious joy from house to
- 35:24house at Christmas. The verb is usually used in the
- 35:28phrase to go waseling. As a noun, wasel can refer to a
- 35:32hot drink that is made with wine, beer, or cider, as well as
- 35:35spices, sugar, and usually big dapples.
- 35:38Wasel is traditionally served in a large bowl, especially at
- 35:40Christmas time. Like a punch.
- 35:42A punch or in Mexico or it's Mexico, but yeah, punch it.
- 35:46We were just talking. About this we were so.
- 35:48We have the same recipes around the world for some things.
- 35:51Who brought that to us? Was it colonizers?
- 35:53Maybe, Probably. But to me, it's Mexican.
- 35:56Yeah, with the WYABA and yeah, yeah.
- 35:57That's our touch. We added some Wyaba we added.
- 35:59Some we've made it better. Some.
- 36:01Some citrus. We perfected it, perfected it.
- 36:04They gave us the the building blocks and we just add a little
- 36:07razzled. Out we added seasoning.
- 36:10Around the 13th century, people in England began to visit their
- 36:13neighboring houses and wish them well.
- 36:16In many traditions, they would recite poetry, sing songs, or
- 36:19even perform skits. The belief was that these jovial
- 36:22activities would encourage good fortune.
- 36:24Typically done on the 12th night, communities would gather
- 36:27to go wassling. Within a few centuries, Wasslers
- 36:30began asking for gifts and treats in return for their
- 36:33theatrics. Fueled by alcoholic bravery,
- 36:36these groups began to push their luck in hopes of another serving
- 36:39of beer. As the night went on, the
- 36:41Wasslers would grow rowdy. Their request would grow into
- 36:44demands, as they said, we won't go until we get some.
- 36:48What the fuck? Those lyrics belong to the
- 36:52Christmas classic We Wish You a Merry Christmas, whose demands
- 36:56date back to around the early 16th century.
- 36:58This is a perfect example of what became a wassailing.
- 37:02We wished you a Merry Christmas. Now give us our figgy pudding.
- 37:07It it it. The way I I don't remember what
- 37:12it was, but it did sound gross. Yeah, I I love figs.
- 37:14Have you ever had figs? Love fig?
- 37:15Yeah, figs. Figs are good.
- 37:16They're good wrapped in bacon anyways.
- 37:19What? Yes, we'll get to that, don't
- 37:20worry. No, I would want to know if
- 37:22you're out there in the cold singing A Christmas Carol
- 37:25demanding some sort of treat, what would that treat be?
- 37:30It's cold if you're in the snow. Menulu or torto de chilaquiles.
- 37:36OK. And what would you?
- 37:37What would your performance be in order?
- 37:38To Oh my gosh, you're asking me for the food?
- 37:40Yeah, no, I'm asking for both. And then I would sing.
- 37:45I would sing Bohemian Rhapsody. And be like give me some some
- 37:50menudo please. Yeah, at the end or else or
- 37:53else. If I'm in the cold and I'm out
- 37:58here doing a, a, a true rendition of like oops, I did it
- 38:03again by Britney Spears, I would at least like 3 courses.
- 38:08Oh, I would like an appetizer. OK, an entree, a dessert.
- 38:12You don't have to give me alcohol if it's cold.
- 38:15I'm really not in the mood for alcohol.
- 38:16The. Whole, but I'd be fine.
- 38:17With like a meal. It's warm.
- 38:20No, I I'd be happy with like hot chocolate, 'cause if OK, I'm
- 38:25gonna, if I'm gonna eat, yeah, I would like to eat.
- 38:30If I'm serving, you'll serve me back.
- 38:32Exactly. A full plate of food.
- 38:34Exactly. These Knights would eventually
- 38:36lead to social unrest. Groups of rowdy men would end
- 38:40the Knights wreaking havoc, including property damage,
- 38:43should their wants not be answered.
- 38:46Once the Puritans arrived in the late 16th century, wassling and
- 38:49most other Christmas traditions were outlawed.
- 38:52Once the Victorian era arrived in the 19th century, England
- 38:55began to express new interest in Christmas traditions.
- 38:58A reinvented version of wassling returned as a community
- 39:01activity. Far removed for the expectations
- 39:04of violence and vandalism, the ACT was instead romanticized as
- 39:07a heartwarming story of poor children singing and asking for
- 39:10food, drink and God's blessings. This version of the tradition is
- 39:14captured in the 19th century Carol.
- 39:16Here we come, a wassling. I've never in my life heard
- 39:21that. Mariah Carey covers that.
- 39:23Sure. I think it's actually a feature
- 39:25with Ariana. Oh, maybe, maybe.
- 39:27Yeah. What's the song name again?
- 39:29Here we come a Waselin. I think it's here the killer
- 39:32comes Waselin. In between the fur trees.
- 39:35In between the fur trees and the Birch.
- 39:38The name change also took place around this time.
- 39:41Waselin became known as caroling and the extent of songs grew to
- 39:45cover an array of traditional Christmas themes and activities.
- 39:48With that being said, what is your favorite Christmas Carol?
- 39:53Last Christmas, George Michael. I think there is a fine line
- 39:58between A Christmas Carol and a Christmas pop song.
- 40:01No offense. Any Christmas carols cannot all
- 40:06be pop Christmas pop songs. All Christmas pop songs can be
- 40:09Christmas carols. Give me We're going to knock on
- 40:13my neighbor's door and you're going to do a rendition.
- 40:15Of last Christmas. OK, OK, OK.
- 40:19No, no, stop, Stop what you're doing.
- 40:21I think when you Christmas Carol you have to envision yourself in
- 40:24like 16th century like garb. You're like in.
- 40:27Would you still be singing that song?
- 40:29No, that's what I thought. I mean, you can't.
- 40:32I don't want to stifle your creativity.
- 40:33You can't. But I just mean traditional.
- 40:35OK, OK, so, OK, so I I'm being really honest with you.
- 40:38What are the songs? Because.
- 40:39Like we wish you a Merry Christmas.
- 40:42Chestnuts roasting on an open. I don't know, Jerry.
- 40:44I'm actually just pulling your leg.
- 40:47I'm going to go with. My answer was going to be
- 40:49grandma got run over by a reindeer.
- 40:52That that would have been my choice, Grandma.
- 40:56Got run over by reindeer. Yeah, dude, that would have
- 40:59been. Walking over my house.
- 41:00Christmas. You growing up was like a damn,
- 41:02it's Christmas time, you know, because.
- 41:04And when the movie would play. Yeah, What show was it on?
- 41:07It was a. Show.
- 41:08I thought it was just a movie. Channel.
- 41:09What channel? No, I don't know why I'm It's
- 41:13either Disney Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon.
- 41:14I want to say it was Nickelodeon and Nickelodeon Nick at night.
- 41:17Maybe it wasn't Apbs special. Why am I thinking like Adult
- 41:20Swim for some? Reason No, no, no.
- 41:21It was it was a child, children's movie.
- 41:23It was not like. I damn, I can't remember now.
- 41:27I I was a wee lad, I was. One that I think is a a good pop
- 41:32song and would be a great Christmas Carol like
- 41:35traditionally the one from the Grinch.
- 41:38What does Cindy Lou Who sing? Where are you?
- 41:42Christmas. I haven't found you.
- 41:48Yes, where she's like looking out the window and stuff.
- 41:50Yeah, yeah, OK. I love.
- 41:52The Grinch. Has been a long time since I've
- 41:54seen the Grinch. OK, grandma got run over by a
- 41:56reindeer TV movie. Mm hmm.
- 42:00I'm it came out in the year 2000.
- 42:03In the year 2000. Directed by Phil Roman, first
- 42:07released. Oh no, it was just a, it was,
- 42:09we're thinking it was a Warner Brothers, like Warner Brother
- 42:12cartoon. Wow.
- 42:14So that was like public channel, that was like Channel 11 or
- 42:17something. I don't know that channels.
- 42:21I don't know. I I mean, I had San Diego
- 42:23channel so. Oh.
- 42:24True, they're not on the table. The WB network on December 21st,
- 42:2822,001. I was going to say 20.
- 42:3221200120O120O1. Put this on the list of movies.
- 42:37We need to watch it. We need to watch it.
- 42:39We did add this to the Christmas rotation.
- 42:42But yeah, caroling started off as like a violent, drunken
- 42:45ordeal. So.
- 42:46So a violent night is not completely far off.
- 42:51Well, it's not Santa doing the violence.
- 42:54I mean, there's also. Not real, but who's?
- 42:59Who's to say one of these people, Carol or Wassling, was
- 43:03not in dressed in red, had a white beard?
- 43:05That's another crazy. Just by chance.
- 43:07Yeah, exactly. That's another crazy thing,
- 43:09though, Like Wassling. I've never heard of that, but it
- 43:11sounds like it sounds like a wrestling move because are you
- 43:15into Wassling? You into wassling?
- 43:17I was watching the Wassle, dude. They're Wassling off.
- 43:20One of those guys hit the wassle.
- 43:22That sounds like a dance move. Now that's crazy.
- 43:25You want to go outside and wasel.
- 43:26Yes. It came from like Pagan era
- 43:30traditions of like they were singing in order to like hope
- 43:35that the the next harvest would be beneficial.
- 43:39So it was very of nature. Yeah.
- 43:41And then it kind of transformed into like, well, if we sing to
- 43:43our neighbors, yeah, maybe they'll grow a bit better crops.
- 43:46Yeah. Because we've charged them with
- 43:48good energy. OK, I might have left something
- 43:50out. What what?
- 43:51Because there was just so much information and I'm sorry if
- 43:54this is wrong but I do remember reading something obviously the
- 43:57Christmas tree. Also it can be seen as like a
- 43:59Pagan tradition because I believe it was the Celtic Druids
- 44:03which I like. The priests used the Christmas
- 44:07tree or like any, any green that was like flourishing at the
- 44:12time. And it would be a sign of that.
- 44:13And I was like, wow, that's it's connected.
- 44:14So it makes perfect sense. Yeah.
- 44:16That it's, it's it's seen as like a like an omen.
- 44:19Like a good omen. Also, our timeline timelines
- 44:21match because you mentioned the 19th century and that's when was
- 44:25that when you said the Queen was?
- 44:26Queen Elizabeth, Yeah, was. Pictured with like a postcard or
- 44:29something of them. The 19th century is also the
- 44:32same time that they started Christmas caroling.
- 44:35Wassalin. No, that's when they became
- 44:37caroling because they expanded what they sang about.
- 44:40So they're like, you know what? Christmas isn't evil.
- 44:42We should not have banned that 300 years ago when we were like
- 44:46ultra Christian. Yeah, let's celebrate.
- 44:49Let's celebrate by fucking getting down by.
- 44:51Getting down, literally. Also, it's a revision of
- 44:55history. The way they said, oh, we're
- 44:58going to bring back Christmas caroling, but we won't talk
- 45:00about the violence. We can't let the poor people
- 45:02know they can get violent and ask us for.
- 45:04Food. Yep, fucking property damage.
- 45:07And sure there was. Property the people yearn sure
- 45:11for revolution. Revolution.
- 45:16That would be another good Christmas Carol.
- 45:18Oh, that I would consider. That I would be doing.
- 45:20I would do that for sure. That is one that is my on my top
- 45:24three songs of of like the holidays.
- 45:27Last Christmas would reach Sabanero and I think about the
- 45:31third one. My when I was coming at you for
- 45:34the pop songs Can't Be carols, I was specifically thinking of all
- 45:37of one for Christmas is you that I can't envision a group of old
- 45:41timey people just dressed in their costumes trying to hit the
- 45:44Mariah Carey whistle no. Whistle no at your at your front
- 45:48door. We can What's it called when you
- 45:50not break a lung? What is it they're?
- 45:53Going to bust the. Puncture a lung?
- 45:55They're going to just collapse somehow.
- 45:57Your lung? A collapse.
- 45:57A collapsed lung. There you go.
- 45:59Wow. In the cold.
- 46:00Oh. That must hurt.
- 46:02Ding Dong, we wish you a Merry Christmas.
- 46:05Christmas carols. We have a list that's not coming
- 46:10up. Oh it it autocorrected to
- 46:14Christmas cards. Oh, I.
- 46:15Was about to say to your phone today that's what happened last
- 46:17time. Songs Christmas music playlist
- 46:23Jingle Bells Jingle Bells and. Oh, that's a Easter.
- 46:26Yeah, we wish you a Merry Christmas.
- 46:28In France they have pear Noel. Oh, Pear.
- 46:33Did it tell you when We Wish You a Merry Christmas was written?
- 46:36Because I know the modern version is like think sometime
- 46:39in the 1900s, but it's been around since like the Victorian
- 46:44era, at least the lyrics that stem from it about We Wish You a
- 46:48Merry Christmas. We won't stop until we get some.
- 46:52That's like literally referencing the origins of
- 46:54Wassling. Wow, we wish you a Merry
- 46:56Christmas of the 16th century English folk this 16th century
- 46:59Carol from the West Country originating from a tradition
- 47:02where poor carolers and then everything I'm.
- 47:04Telling you. Wow Original composer is unknown
- 47:08it it's popularity sword after Arthel Worrell's 1939
- 47:13arrangement for Bristol University Carol Carolers.
- 47:17From the Wasslers. And they had the they should
- 47:19have been wasslers. Jingle.
- 47:21Yeah, we said Jingle Bells. Oh, Christmas tree wood is it.
- 47:23Oh, that's a good one. Here we come a caroling should
- 47:28be Here we come a waselin. Here we come.
- 47:32Wow, it's the same. Song.
- 47:34It's the same song. Here we come a Waselin, also
- 47:38known as Here we come a Christmas sing that's.
- 47:40Crazy. Maybe it's not the same song and
- 47:43many other names. This is traditional is English
- 47:46Christmas Carol and New Year song typically sung while
- 47:49wassling or singing carols. Hey you Wassel.
- 47:57It's only you're saying, Rassel. You're kind of Rassel.
- 48:00Rassel, that's what that's what the Americans heard.
- 48:03Are you saying Rassel Because I'm down?
- 48:05And I'm trying my best to to pronounce it that way.
- 48:09Wassel Wassel, every single. I typed it on Google and it
- 48:13pronounced it for me. Miriam Webster pronounced it the
- 48:16same way. Wasel, Miriam Wopsel.
- 48:20Marian. Wopsel is Oh, that was your bed.
- 48:26Side note, Martin. Martin Luther going back to him.
- 48:28Yeah, the German priest, German priest, theologian, author, hymn
- 48:33writer, professor and former Augustinian Friar.
- 48:38A Friar, He was a Seminole figure of the Protestant
- 48:42Reformation, for his theological beliefs form the basis.
- 48:46Oh, and his theological beliefs form the basis of Lutheranism.
- 48:51Everyone knows that, of course. Why?
- 48:53Didn't I not connect the dots? Lutherism.
- 48:56Everyone knows that it's basic, common, all is.
- 48:59OK, on a separate note, like my tinfoil, my tinfoil hat is back
- 49:02on. OK, we drove through Carbon
- 49:04Canyon. Yes, we did, on Saturday,
- 49:07serendipitously. What?
- 49:09I'm at work and I'm going through like random news
- 49:11articles. Why is there an article about
- 49:14the compound at the top of carbon?
- 49:15Can. No fucking way.
- 49:17I was telling Jerry all the lore because in Carbon Canyon in
- 49:20between like Chino Hills and Brea, there is this huge
- 49:23compound. I think it's like 400 something
- 49:25acres of, of land that was purchased by this one lady who
- 49:30swore she was the second coming of God.
- 49:35And her, her prophecy, her, her, her branch of religion of
- 49:40Christianity was the belief that Joseph was a St. that he was
- 49:44like Joe Joseph, St. Joseph, Joe, you know, Joe.
- 49:48I know. Joe I know.
- 49:49Joe No, not. That Joe as much as a blessing
- 49:52as he is in my life. Not that Joe no mother, Mary,
- 49:55Joseph the the the dad who stepped up for Jesus, maybe.
- 50:00Jesus, yeah, not not the stepdad, but the dad that
- 50:02stepped. Up dad that stepped up that he
- 50:05was like also like a like a not a priest.
- 50:11Oh my God, I just said it. He is not the Pope.
- 50:14Oh my God, I just said it a deity.
- 50:18Yeah kind of not that he was like not human like he is a
- 50:22religious being and that she would recite like scripture as
- 50:27if God was speaking to her and she was able to get a bunch of
- 50:30followers. So she bought this huge land.
- 50:33I don't know what she did why she was so rich, but I guess the
- 50:37the land is valued at I I should bring up the article, but I'm
- 50:41just telling you what I remember either lots of millions or 1
- 50:45billion. That's fucking what it's worth
- 50:47at right now because it recently went up for sale because she
- 50:50died. What?
- 50:52She died, and the reason why this was in the news was because
- 50:54they were opening up for people to attend to see it for one of
- 50:59the first times in a very long time, because people are not
- 51:01allowed there. They have a guard at the door at
- 51:04the entrance, the offshoot. It's like a bunch of little
- 51:06houses and then this huge dirt driveway with a guard at all
- 51:10times. Fishy.
- 51:12And the reason because people went and they were asking
- 51:14questions because I guess the daughter manages the entire
- 51:17property now and people are like, oh, what, Why is the need
- 51:20for security? Oh, in case there's fires.
- 51:25Because the one guy at the at the bottom of the door is.
- 51:27Going to be yeah, we can't let people in because of the chance
- 51:29of fire. Interesting, but I guess there
- 51:33is there was plans to develop a huge compound, but the city of I
- 51:37think Chino Hills, I think it resides in Chino Hills or the
- 51:41either Orange County or San Bernardino County band of the
- 51:46development of such a large structure because it's a one way
- 51:50St. Exactly.
- 51:51Up a mountain to get up there. So it is not built to have that
- 51:56many people. But Nope still.
- 51:57I guess they built giant night 9 foot statues of like Joseph,
- 52:03some some nun. I think it's a nun, some sister.
- 52:10I just thought it was crazy, the timing of that.
- 52:12We just drove through. I was telling Jerry that Occult
- 52:15lived up there and now the lady died and people were visiting.
- 52:19And the green mist. Don't forget the green mist.
- 52:20Got the green mist. I don't have research on the
- 52:22green mist. People say that nuclear testing
- 52:25was done in that same area and it makes the mist green.
- 52:28Interesting. I think we should buy lottery
- 52:32tickets because we have been talking about things and
- 52:36somehow, someway comes up they happen within a day or Terry's
- 52:41been really good at that. I have.
- 52:42I need to buy a lottery ticket. We were recently talking about
- 52:45The Princess Bride and unfortunately, Rob Reiner and
- 52:49his wife. Were murdered.
- 52:52Murdered by their son, allegedly.
- 52:54Allegedly, but that's really sad because he is an amazing,
- 52:58amazing producer, director just. Talent.
- 53:01Genius talent, storyteller. We just saw Spinal Tap 2 in
- 53:05theaters and that was like, hilarious.
- 53:07And yeah, that sucks. That sucks when Harry mentality
- 53:11is one of those favorite movies. Yeah, literally.
- 53:13Saturday night you were talking about it and then we find out
- 53:15Sunday, Sunday end of in the evening.
- 53:17Yeah, we were at Yeah. No, it's just crazy, crazy,
- 53:21crazy, crazy. It's a, it's a, it's a crazy
- 53:24world. Yeah, what a time of year too.
- 53:27Something so tragic to happen. Yeah.
- 53:30Rest in peace to him, his wife, wife.
- 53:33Condolences to. I think they have a daughter.
- 53:36I think so. And I think another son,
- 53:38Kintabi. Yeah, who knows?
- 53:40Anyways, we're buying lottery tickets.
- 53:42We're buying lottery tickets, we're going to watch Grandma Got
- 53:45run over by a reindeer, and we're going to watch Rudolph the
- 53:49Claymation one. Love those clowns.
- 53:52I love. Those those just bring me joy,
- 53:54do. You have favorite Christmas
- 53:56movie? Elf Elf is a go to Blades of
- 54:00Glory. That is not a Christmas movie.
- 54:02Yes, it is OK. Yes, it is Will Ferrell.
- 54:05Will Ferrell. I just love Will Ferrell, I
- 54:08think. I mean, yeah, that's kind of it
- 54:12for me. I'll be honest, I don't think I
- 54:14have one do. You like elf?
- 54:16Not particularly. I think I've seen it once in my.
- 54:20Life. That's why when when you watch
- 54:21it. In my teens, I'm guessing.
- 54:23That's why it's going to hit so much harder now as an adult.
- 54:28OK, maybe I'll watch it. Maybe I'll watch it in my time
- 54:30off. So many things to do, no?
- 54:35I'm just kidding. We'll watch.
- 54:38Damn it, guys. It's been months of this.
- 54:40This battle. What am I?
- 54:42What am I trying to get you to watch?
- 54:43Yes. I'm gonna be though.
- 54:44Brokeback Mountain. Cherry.
- 54:46We have to watch Brokeback Mountain.
- 54:50We'll do a double feature soon. I'm gonna have time off.
- 54:56Like so soon. I'm just saying.
- 55:01Janet. Damn it, Janet.
- 55:04How do I get? To miss, I just I have Jerry
- 55:09right here. 2 balls 601 sorry. OK, do you have a song
- 55:16recommendation for the week? Yes I do.
- 55:19I'm going to recommend this song.
- 55:20I think it's some great ambiance, great music to have in
- 55:23the background. I randomly stumbled upon this
- 55:27genre which was I think dungeon synth which is great.
- 55:33You are speaking to me right now.
- 55:35Great, the song is caught. Sorry, my phone is glitching.
- 55:42The song is called Emblems of Durin Durin.
- 55:47That's actually that's the Lord of the Rings reference.
- 55:49Emblems of Durin did. You finish your book.
- 55:53I am 2 chapters away from finishing it.
- 55:56I will best believe I'm finishing this book next
- 55:58episode. Guys, you need to applaud Jerry,
- 56:01he read. A whole book or trilogy?
- 56:05One book. He read whole book guys with
- 56:07chapters. Chapters Words Pages A A Pre.
- 56:13Preface an epilogue. What the fuck do you call them
- 56:18but not take it back? I take it back are.
- 56:20You trying to Wassel right now? I take it back.
- 56:23I'm trying to Wassel. Wassel.
- 56:26Yeah. OK.
- 56:27Anyways, emblems of Duran or Duran?
- 56:32I'm gonna add it to my list. That's not.
- 56:33I feel like I might enjoy that. If you are like, especially when
- 56:37you're writing, when you're writing, play this music.
- 56:39Oh my God. Is it?
- 56:40Is it? Oh my God, Brian.
- 56:42Does it have singing or is it just instrumental?
- 56:44Just instrumental. OK, I do need that.
- 56:47I'm writing a book. My recommendation is going to be
- 56:50cheesy. It's going to be Christmas song.
- 56:52Christmas. We should go waseling to Ariana
- 56:54Grande Santa tell me. That's a great fucking.
- 56:57Song Santa tell me I was looking at an article.
- 57:02I don't know if it was Rolling Stones.
- 57:04Probably. Something it might have just
- 57:06been someone's opinion, it might have just been like AAI believe
- 57:10you TikTok or something. But I believe you.
- 57:12Brian, it was a TikTok. They were ranking the best songs
- 57:14of best Christmas songs of every decade.
- 57:19Santa Tell Me wasn't on there for the 20 tens which.
- 57:23Crazy which? What song was on there?
- 57:25For granted, it was a good song, It was the Kelly Clarkson
- 57:29Christmas song underneath the tree.
- 57:32OK. Underneath the tree.
- 57:34Yeah, there's a super upbeat, Yeah, Yeah, Also a good song.
- 57:38Listen to that one. That is a really good song.
- 57:42George Michael last Christmas had to be.
- 57:44That's Wham. How dare you delete his band?
- 57:48I'm not doing. Are you?
- 57:49It's Wham. It's Wham.
- 57:50Oh shit. Well, I know it's George
- 57:51Michael. Yeah.
- 57:52I don't know. At least I know George Michael.
- 57:54At least I know Wham. That was a recent discovery
- 57:58within the year, let me tell you.
- 58:00Really, I have no idea who freaking Wham is.
