- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on gadigl Land Always was, always
- 0:04Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal Land Patius.
- 0:13Speaker 2: I'm out and I'm sal and this is too broad,
- 0:15Speaker 2: chicks to show that shares life lessons and tips tail
- 0:17Speaker 2: make you rich in life. And I hope you're all
- 0:20Speaker 2: feeling a little bit, a little bit flirty.
- 0:24Speaker 1: You're ready to float?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Are you ready to float? Bitch? Everyone's like, uh so
- 0:29Speaker 2: today we are talking a very on brand episode. I
- 0:34Speaker 2: feel like for us, it's because it's fun, it's flirty,
- 0:36Speaker 2: it's thriving, and it's how to float with your life.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Yep.
- 0:41Speaker 2: So there's a couple kind of podcasts and substacks all
- 0:45Speaker 2: about this idea, and we've wanted to tap into the
- 0:50Speaker 2: conversation because I just love the notion and idea behind this.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Yeah, me too. And it's reframing how to fall back
- 0:56Speaker 1: in love with your life.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I think it's a little bit I would call it
- 1:00Speaker 2: like the little sister of romanticizing your life. Do you
- 1:04Speaker 2: know what I mean? Like it's the same, same but different.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I feel that. And it's just it's fun, Yeah,
- 1:12Speaker 1: I think is why we're excited to get into it.
- 1:14Speaker 1: But we like to start with our obsessions of the week,
- 1:16Speaker 1: What are you obsessing over?
- 1:18Speaker 2: My obsession of the week is kind of an old
- 1:21Speaker 2: faithful but she's just really in the rotation at the moment.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And it's the Ganni Air Fractice Curls method mask. And
- 1:28Speaker 2: this is literally my like nine dollar hair tool because
- 1:34Speaker 2: I don't do anything else with my hair when I
- 1:37Speaker 2: use it, and it's so good if you've got curly
- 1:39Speaker 2: or wavy hair, and you also want like a little
- 1:42Speaker 2: bit of texture in it that gets rid of all
- 1:44Speaker 2: the frize. And I literally just use this on. I
- 1:47Speaker 2: wet my hair like sopping wet in the shower and
- 1:50Speaker 2: then I just get a little bit of this, rub
- 1:52Speaker 2: it on my hands and scrunch my hair and I
- 1:54Speaker 2: get the best waves and like curls that kind of
- 1:58Speaker 2: give that like Alley hair wavy shag haircut that I
- 2:04Speaker 2: crdly have And it's just so easy, Like my hair's
- 2:08Speaker 2: done in literally ten minutes and then I just let
- 2:10Speaker 2: it air dry and it's so good. I definitely can't
- 2:14Speaker 2: like not use a hair product if I want to
- 2:18Speaker 2: get like the wavy waves, because in my head just
- 2:20Speaker 2: goes so frizzy. But yeah, you can get it from
- 2:23Speaker 2: like price Line. It's our RP is fifteen ninety nine,
- 2:26Speaker 2: but it's like always on sale either at like Chemist
- 2:29Speaker 2: Warehouse or price Line. And it's a huge tube, like
- 2:33Speaker 2: it lasts so long, Like I think this one has
- 2:36Speaker 2: lasted me like a good six months.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah, that's amazing.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Yeah, ten out of ten.
- 2:41Speaker 1: My obsession of the week is a study that was
- 2:43Speaker 1: shared by the Washington Post and they found that six
- 2:48Speaker 1: point four to seven point eight hours of sleep is
- 2:52Speaker 1: the sweet spot for healthy aging.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Yeah, because I always thought it was eight hour listening here,
- 3:03Speaker 4: we've seen her like interview and Dakota Johnson says that
- 3:05Speaker 4: she needs like ten hours, like twelve hours of sleep
- 3:09Speaker 4: to be functioning.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I guess that's the thing is that it's like and
- 3:14Speaker 1: actually that's what the researchers said. They emphasize that the
- 3:17Speaker 1: amount of sleep that each person needs really varies based
- 3:21Speaker 1: on genetics, environment, lifestyle, and so many other factors. So
- 3:26Speaker 1: some people need six hours while others need nine. But
- 3:30Speaker 1: I just thought that was so interesting because we're taught
- 3:33Speaker 1: that we need at least eight hours of sleep a night, right,
- 3:36Speaker 1: which is you know, I'm sure that there's there would
- 3:38Speaker 1: be lots of research to prove that across the board.
- 3:40Speaker 2: That is a good thing.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeah, it's very very interesting, So don't feel bad.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I feel like if you only need six hours, or
- 3:50Speaker 1: if you feel like you need ten. Yeah, but I
- 3:53Speaker 1: think everybody's so.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Different, doesn't feel like a lot.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I feel like six the amount that I get most
- 4:00Speaker 1: probably yeah, and between six girl, Yeah, between six to
- 4:04Speaker 1: seven is probably what I get.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Do you feel rested with six to seven?
- 4:07Speaker 1: Even if I get told like if I get like
- 4:09Speaker 1: ten hours, I feel the same. I don't know what
- 4:12Speaker 1: it is, but yeah, very interesting.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Shall we flirt?
- 4:18Speaker 1: Let's flat.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I love flirting.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Love flirting, love flirting. Yeah, okay, so you kind of
- 4:26Speaker 1: you touched on this at the top of the episode.
- 4:28Speaker 1: But we're chatting how to flirt with your life?
- 4:31Speaker 2: But what does that actually mean? It's provocative get some
- 4:35Speaker 2: people going, as we like.
- 4:36Speaker 1: To say, because we all kind of know what flirting is,
- 4:39Speaker 1: right in the context of romance. We know flirting as
- 4:43Speaker 1: the act of chatting and getting to know somebody that
- 4:47Speaker 1: you haven't that's maybe new in your life.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that you would think of when you think of
- 4:51Speaker 2: flirting is like romantic, Yeah, romantic.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And it's kind of like it's usually pretty playful and
- 4:57Speaker 1: lighthearted and fun, and there's a bit of you know,
- 5:01Speaker 1: risk involved and an element of surprise. So yeah, one
- 5:05Speaker 1: of the key characteristics of flirting generally is that sense
- 5:08Speaker 1: of unpredictability and that it's intriguing and exciting and new.
- 5:12Speaker 1: So how can we flirt with life because that's all
- 5:16Speaker 1: we've known, Like, you've known your life ever since you've
- 5:19Speaker 1: worn it's been kind of the same ever since. Like,
- 5:21Speaker 1: it's not like a new relationship. So in basic terms,
- 5:25Speaker 1: flirting with life is a way of subtle a law
- 5:28Speaker 1: or romanticizing the world around you and having that perspective
- 5:32Speaker 1: shift to shake things up and pay attention to different
- 5:37Speaker 1: details in a way that you maybe haven't before. But
- 5:41Speaker 1: it's also like a process of becoming more magnetic and
- 5:46Speaker 1: intentional with your life and attracting the things that you want.
- 5:50Speaker 2: A bit more open.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, and it's I guess we're flirting as well.
- 5:57Speaker 1: So often part of it is like the tea is right,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and waiting for that feeling and waiting for them to
- 6:04Speaker 1: text you back.
- 6:05Speaker 2: And not butterflies.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's kind of what this is. It's patience
- 6:10Speaker 1: is favored over instant gratification or always knowing what is
- 6:14Speaker 1: going to happen next.
- 6:15Speaker 2: I like it, and we were reading this substack when
- 6:19Speaker 2: we were doing research for this episode, which I really
- 6:22Speaker 2: liked the angle of it and how it went into
- 6:25Speaker 2: linked in the show notes of but how it kind
- 6:28Speaker 2: of ties into this theme of seduction. Right, How good
- 6:33Speaker 2: is that word? And it's such a good word. If
- 6:36Speaker 2: seduction was an object, what object is it? Because for
- 6:42Speaker 2: me and no, this is weird. You know, when like
- 6:46Speaker 2: there's a cat burglar on the side of a building
- 6:48Speaker 2: and they have those like suction cas that's what you're thinking.
- 6:51Speaker 2: That's just what popped into my head. But I think
- 6:54Speaker 2: it's cause seduction. I don't know, what did you think
- 6:57Speaker 2: of a rose or chocolate? Yours is better? Cat burglars
- 7:03Speaker 2: can be pretty hot, very hot, Michelle fifacat woman, very flirting,
- 7:10Speaker 2: very flirty. Anyway. I love that word because I think
- 7:30Speaker 2: it is very encompassing of how I kind of feel
- 7:35Speaker 2: about this topic, that there's this constant seduction of opportunity
- 7:41Speaker 2: that you can open yourself up to in life. I
- 7:45Speaker 2: do understand and appreciate the structure of a routine, but
- 7:50Speaker 2: as with everything, sometimes routine can be a good thing,
- 7:53Speaker 2: but it's like too much of anything can be a
- 7:55Speaker 2: bad thing, right, And when we fall too much into
- 7:59Speaker 2: routine or rules, it doesn't leave a lot of room
- 8:03Speaker 2: for flirting. It doesn't leave a lot of room for
- 8:06Speaker 2: like seduction in your life. And when we're constantly living
- 8:11Speaker 2: our lives to a routine that's set by this invisible person,
- 8:18Speaker 2: that it's like, why am I doing this? Where's the fun,
- 8:21Speaker 2: where's the flirt? Where does that fit in? And so
- 8:25Speaker 2: this subset kind of talks about how seduction is about
- 8:28Speaker 2: your presence or pull and how you move through the world,
- 8:32Speaker 2: and my interpretation of that was really about like your
- 8:35Speaker 2: openness to the world and how, yes, seduction is mostly
- 8:40Speaker 2: used in a romantic sense. In that context, it refers
- 8:44Speaker 2: to the gentle persuasion to become familiar to someone and
- 8:50Speaker 2: to kind of make it feel inevitable of like this
- 8:53Speaker 2: person to meet you. But like if you apply that
- 8:56Speaker 2: to your life, it's more about becoming familiar with unknown Yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 2: because like if you're going, okay, you're flirting with someone,
- 9:04Speaker 2: you don't know that person, or if you've just met
- 9:07Speaker 2: you're like open to this new thing. But what if
- 9:09Speaker 2: you put that context into just your general day today.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Yeah, it's leaving yourself open to the opportunities of the
- 9:18Speaker 1: hon in a way that's exciting and thrilling, not something
- 9:23Speaker 1: to be scared of or.
- 9:24Speaker 2: The yes or just like what's going to happen today?
- 9:28Speaker 2: Like that that two thousand rom com opener of like
- 9:32Speaker 2: it's the perect day. I really want to keep going,
- 9:37Speaker 2: but I won't.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Be slaid that thank you lead people wanting practicing in
- 9:41Speaker 1: the mirror.
- 9:44Speaker 2: But just like, where could the sparkly vibes come from today?
- 9:49Speaker 2: And having the ability to maybe look up from your
- 9:54Speaker 2: phone and see that.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I like that, and I'm sure a lot
- 9:59Speaker 1: of people can relate to that.
- 10:01Speaker 2: And I wonder how many people listening feel like they've
- 10:05Speaker 2: flirted with their life recently.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Yeah, well, we did actually pull the chicks to see
- 10:11Speaker 1: how they're feeling at the moment. Only eight percent of
- 10:15Speaker 1: your chicks said that you were thriving. And I know, right,
- 10:19Speaker 1: I is.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Really close to smacking the microphone, but then I realized
- 10:22Speaker 2: that would hurt people's ear holes. But I hate that, No,
- 10:25Speaker 2: I know, and I don't like that for us.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Fifty two percent said that they're kind of in the
- 10:30Speaker 1: middle and forty percent said that they're feeling met so
- 10:33Speaker 1: we need to fly, Yeah, we need.
- 10:35Speaker 2: To flirt is a catastrophe.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yeah, So if your life is feeling dull, or that
- 10:43Speaker 1: you're lacking connection or meaning, or that everything's kind of
- 10:46Speaker 1: been the same, which I do think is a normal feeling,
- 10:50Speaker 1: especially at this midpoint of the year too.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Yeah, the mid year slump, be slumpy.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Yeah, honestly, I think it might be time to start
- 10:57Speaker 1: flirting with your life again.
- 10:59Speaker 2: And I don't want anyone to think flirting with your
- 11:02Speaker 2: life is not We're not saying you have to go
- 11:07Speaker 2: out and like carry Bradshaw your life. We're not like
- 11:10Speaker 2: you don't need to go out or like sometimes the
- 11:15Speaker 2: misconception with if we feel like we're in a rut
- 11:18Speaker 2: or a slump or whatever and we're maybe in our
- 11:21Speaker 2: flop error, which we've had a whole episode on in
- 11:23Speaker 2: defense of that, is like you've got to you've got
- 11:27Speaker 2: to blot like, you've got to change something really drastically.
- 11:30Speaker 2: You've got to do something.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Like what move to a new country.
- 11:34Speaker 2: You don't you don't have to completely create a new life,
- 11:40Speaker 2: a new personality and new who you are. You don't
- 11:43Speaker 2: need to sabotage something you don't need to, you know,
- 11:45Speaker 2: break up with your partner or if you want it. Yeah,
- 11:49Speaker 2: but like you don't need to quit your job, breakup
- 11:51Speaker 2: with your partner, or like completely uphol your life just
- 11:55Speaker 2: to start flirting with it again. Yeah, exactly.
- 11:59Speaker 1: It doesn't have to come out out of something that
- 12:01Speaker 1: is the destruction of something else in your life, right.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Yes, And so I think the importance of flirting, especially
- 12:09Speaker 2: at the moment and potentially where people are feeling within
- 12:13Speaker 2: those like statistics above, is like focusing on flirting, especially
- 12:19Speaker 2: in a world that's really focused on fighting. And when
- 12:25Speaker 2: I'm saying that, I'm talking about how like rage bait
- 12:28Speaker 2: was the word of a year. There's the rise of
- 12:31Speaker 2: you know, hate and click bait and fake marketing scandals
- 12:36Speaker 2: and all of those things that are designed to kind
- 12:39Speaker 2: of make people angry and frustrated, even if it's just work.
- 12:45Speaker 2: You know how that is. And you know where are
- 12:50Speaker 2: you sitting in that? Like are you getting up in
- 12:53Speaker 2: the day and approaching it with curiosity or are you
- 12:56Speaker 2: approaching it with clenched teeth.
- 13:00Speaker 1: My jaws?
- 13:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I really am. And I'm like, if you're constantly
- 13:05Speaker 2: like your eyebrowser up, your jaws clenched, and your shoulders
- 13:11Speaker 2: are tense, Like we need to float a little bit
- 13:13Speaker 2: more there, my girl. And like I'm also here speaking
- 13:15Speaker 2: from experience, like this is not something that I'm sitting
- 13:19Speaker 2: here going You're like, oh, yeah, I do this every
- 13:21Speaker 2: single fucking day whenever we go into these topics. I'm like,
- 13:24Speaker 2: I'm ready to learn. Yeah, It's like that's why we
- 13:26Speaker 2: want to do this because because I'm like, i'd like
- 13:30Speaker 2: to know that, dude, thank you very much. So it's
- 13:34Speaker 2: about like maybe if you're going into work and you
- 13:38Speaker 2: feel like you're bracing for impact rather than leaning in,
- 13:42Speaker 2: Like if you're going about your day and you're bracing
- 13:44Speaker 2: and be like, all right, what's gonna what's gonna go
- 13:46Speaker 2: wrong today, what's gonna pisce me off today, what's gonna
- 13:50Speaker 2: upset me, what's gonna make me anxious? That's that brace.
- 13:53Speaker 2: That's that I'm letting life happen to me, which absolutely
- 13:57Speaker 2: does happen sometimes and you can't control everything thing, but
- 14:00Speaker 2: where are you leaning in? Where are the moments where
- 14:04Speaker 2: you're falling? And like you have that drawl into your life? Yeah,
- 14:08Speaker 2: and you're like, yes, love, ten out of ten, because
- 14:12Speaker 2: flirting with your life means giving yourself permission to be
- 14:14Speaker 2: interested without being committed. And that's what I like about it,
- 14:19Speaker 2: because it gives you the opportunity to try and fail
- 14:23Speaker 2: new things. And also if you're the kind of person
- 14:27Speaker 2: who can't start anything without a plan hello me, or
- 14:32Speaker 2: like a purpose or a guaranteed return on investment, then
- 14:35Speaker 2: like this is potentially a sign that you need to
- 14:37Speaker 2: embrace the wad if a little bit more, yeah, yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 2: because I have become such an analytical like I describe
- 14:45Speaker 2: myself as like a type see that. It's like loves
- 14:49Speaker 2: a plan but also thrives in like chaos a little
- 14:52Speaker 2: bit as well, organized chaos, organized chaos. Right, But it's
- 14:56Speaker 2: like only that if I'm like actually a little bit
- 14:59Speaker 2: interested in I'm like TYPEAY for things that I'm interested in,
- 15:01Speaker 2: and then type B when I'm like I don't want
- 15:03Speaker 2: to go get your passport, you know, I'm like, that's boring,
- 15:07Speaker 2: what do you mean? Yeah? Where's my best? If you
- 15:10Speaker 2: get on? I don't care, However, a holiday, let me
- 15:15Speaker 2: create a color coded spreadsheet.
- 15:17Speaker 1: And I've got you the spreadsheet at the outfits.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Yes, literally, And so I do think like the world
- 15:24Speaker 2: gives us plenty of things to take seriously and that
- 15:27Speaker 2: are worth fighting for and worth being incredibly serious about,
- 15:31Speaker 2: and that we do need to brace for, but there's
- 15:34Speaker 2: also a lot of things that we can lean into
- 15:36Speaker 2: and flirt with a little bit more as well. Yeah,
- 15:39Speaker 2: one other small sign that's a good indicator of whether
- 15:42Speaker 2: or not you need to flirt a little bit more
- 15:43Speaker 2: is how much like love are you giving out? Yeah, So,
- 15:46Speaker 2: like we always say this as well, that if you
- 15:48Speaker 2: think someone looks really nice, whether you know them or not,
- 15:51Speaker 2: like being like I love your jacket, Yeah, I love you.
- 15:54Speaker 2: I find myself doing that just like I try to
- 15:57Speaker 2: find something like if I don't know someone and like
- 16:02Speaker 2: they're in the store, I'll be like, what's like a
- 16:04Speaker 2: way that I can connect connect? And like one time
- 16:08Speaker 2: I went to what we were where you were with me? Oh,
- 16:12Speaker 2: we were in Harvey Norman and the lady was like
- 16:15Speaker 2: really friendly and she was like walking and I was
- 16:18Speaker 2: behind her and I didn't realize and I went to
- 16:20Speaker 2: go be like, oh my god, I love your shirt
- 16:21Speaker 2: and she turned around. I realized it was her uniform.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Oh oh, because imagine I walk in that way. She'd
- 16:29Speaker 2: be like, like, it's you my uniform ripping on me.
- 16:33Speaker 2: But I was like, I really just like your stripy shirt.
- 16:36Speaker 2: But then when she turned around, I was.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Like office siren. Yeah, yeah, no, I love that.
- 16:40Speaker 2: The other thing with this is like, you know, whether
- 16:43Speaker 2: whether you're flirting with life, whether it's opportunities, whether it's
- 16:48Speaker 2: just your day to day, whether it's walking on the train,
- 16:50Speaker 2: whether it's talking to a stranger, sometimes life won't flirt back. Yeah,
- 16:55Speaker 2: that's okay. That it doesn't mean like just because you
- 16:59Speaker 2: like which the ball, doesn't mean someone's going to bat
- 17:01Speaker 2: it back exactly sports sports technology, Yeah, not everyone's going
- 17:08Speaker 2: to fly back. No. Because it's like the cab light theory, right,
- 17:11Speaker 2: and which we've spoken with about making friends. But I
- 17:14Speaker 2: think you can probably turn that into this topic as well.
- 17:19Speaker 2: That In Sex and City, Miranda says that when you
- 17:21Speaker 2: know some guys are like a cab that you know,
- 17:26Speaker 2: they go through life with their cab light off and
- 17:28Speaker 2: they're like going and dating and being aka the two
- 17:32Speaker 2: thousand version of a fuck boy. But one day they
- 17:35Speaker 2: miraculously go to bed, wake up, turn their cab light on.
- 17:38Speaker 2: The first person that gets in their cab as the
- 17:39Speaker 2: person they marry and have babies with. I don't agree
- 17:41Speaker 2: with that terminology because I think that's very minimizing to
- 17:46Speaker 2: love and connection. Yeah, but I do think there is
- 17:48Speaker 2: this it's a good understanding that sometimes the cab light
- 17:52Speaker 2: isn't on, whether it's to people that are wanting to
- 17:55Speaker 2: make friends, whether it's to opportunities, sometimes the cab light
- 17:58Speaker 2: just isn't on. So sometimes life just won't float back.
- 18:02Speaker 2: That's gonna happen.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Yeah, but you got to keep trying and putting yourself out.
- 18:05Speaker 2: You're never going to get in the cab ever. Again,
- 18:07Speaker 2: what do you do when you can't get in that cab?
- 18:09Speaker 2: You wait for the next one. Yeah, So it's like
- 18:12Speaker 2: those It doesn't mean you got to walk home. You
- 18:16Speaker 2: wait for the next opportunity, You wait for the next
- 18:18Speaker 2: thing that floats back with you, and you just keep going,
- 18:22Speaker 2: you know. And I really do always love that analogy
- 18:24Speaker 2: because I think it is very easy to focus on
- 18:27Speaker 2: the moments where a cab light wasn't on. Whether it's dating,
- 18:30Speaker 2: whether it's friendships, whether it's work life. But you can
- 18:35Speaker 2: find those moments and those moments are there. So focusing
- 18:38Speaker 2: on when the light is on versus when it's off,
- 18:42Speaker 2: but not the big light buck, the big light boo,
- 18:45Speaker 2: the big light.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Yeah, no big light.
- 19:02Speaker 2: How do we flirt with life so it flirts back?
- 19:06Speaker 2: There's a really incredible podcast episode by British writer and
- 19:11Speaker 2: content creator Florence Given who takes a notion of flirting
- 19:16Speaker 2: with your life but takes it a step further by
- 19:18Speaker 2: explaining obviously how your life can flirt back, and the
- 19:22Speaker 2: result is crush energy Love. How good is having a crush? Oh? Yeah?
- 19:29Speaker 2: So like crush energy is like the yearning and halfway
- 19:32Speaker 2: point of existing between getting to know someone or something
- 19:35Speaker 2: and feeling the rest with the fantasy of what you
- 19:38Speaker 2: want it to be. So do you know what I
- 19:40Speaker 2: take from that as well? It's basically you know how
- 19:42Speaker 2: we talk about all the time and be like, what
- 19:44Speaker 2: if this happens? What if it's really bad? Crush energy
- 19:47Speaker 2: is the opposite of that, where you're going, what if
- 19:50Speaker 2: it all works out it's really good? What if I
- 19:53Speaker 2: get the part? What if I get these what if
- 19:55Speaker 2: I find something really good at the markets today? I
- 19:58Speaker 2: don't know why I did that action if you want
- 19:59Speaker 2: to you on you, but like it's that opportunistic like perspective.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, the what if in a good way?
- 20:09Speaker 2: Yeah, And having a crush on your own life means
- 20:12Speaker 2: you accept the reality of it because it also comes
- 20:14Speaker 2: with less commitment. So you know how we like talk
- 20:18Speaker 2: like again, we spoke about this in our book, but
- 20:21Speaker 2: it applies so similar to this, is that when you
- 20:25Speaker 2: go on a date. On the first date, you kind
- 20:27Speaker 2: of go in being like this could go really well
- 20:29Speaker 2: or sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit. Yeah, you know, we.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Might get married, I might never see you again.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Exactly, I might be telling this story for the rest
- 20:37Speaker 2: of my life in a good or a bad way,
- 20:39Speaker 2: you know. And but we don't go into friendships like that,
- 20:45Speaker 2: you know, we go on friendship thinking, well, obviously I
- 20:47Speaker 2: want you to be a friend for the rest of
- 20:48Speaker 2: my life. We don't, or we don't go into other
- 20:51Speaker 2: things in our life with that perspective that is maybe
- 20:55Speaker 2: a little bit less committal, like a little bit like
- 20:59Speaker 2: might be good, might be bad. But I'm just I'm
- 21:01Speaker 2: excited because there's something new. And so her perspective is
- 21:05Speaker 2: to view your life as a lover sexy right, So
- 21:10Speaker 2: life just wants your attention a few minutes for you
- 21:13Speaker 2: to stop and observe because life is a reciprocal lover,
- 21:16Speaker 2: but it needs you to make the first move. Hot
- 21:19Speaker 2: obsessed is an understatement. So we told you chicks to
- 21:24Speaker 2: ask you how much you regularly make time for moments
- 21:27Speaker 2: of joy? And I was pleasantly surprised because fifty six
- 21:30Speaker 2: percent of you said yes and forty four percent of
- 21:32Speaker 2: you said no. So I was I was actually expecting
- 21:36Speaker 2: more on the no, and to be honest, so I'm
- 21:39Speaker 2: happy that like more than half of us are making
- 21:42Speaker 2: time for joy. But I think if we change that
- 21:45Speaker 2: to joy every day, I do think we would see
- 21:49Speaker 2: that slip and it's like that's where we need to
- 21:52Speaker 2: really bring it in and put the gas on the pedal.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, it's kind of like that whole concept of
- 21:58Speaker 1: life doesn't happen.
- 22:00Speaker 2: To you, Like you need to take what happens from you.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Yeah, like you need to take control and have some
- 22:05Speaker 1: agency in the great things that can happen. And another
- 22:09Speaker 1: way that you can flirt with life is follow the
- 22:12Speaker 1: three principles of seduction. It's like our word of the
- 22:15Speaker 1: episode a deduction, and there's always one. Okay, So principle one,
- 22:23Speaker 1: let go of ego and embrace vulnerability. Ego is a
- 22:26Speaker 1: seduction killer, so be able to release it and instead
- 22:30Speaker 1: embrace vulnerability is a step towards more authentic connections, like
- 22:35Speaker 1: be willing to fail. That's not always going to go right,
- 22:38Speaker 1: and that you might get a bit of a bruised
- 22:39Speaker 1: ego if you flirt and it doesn't exactly flirt back
- 22:42Speaker 1: in the way that you want. Principle two embrace evocative contrast. Yeah,
- 22:50Speaker 1: I like this one. So to become magnetic, don't be
- 22:53Speaker 1: afraid to become something of a paradox. So you don't
- 22:57Speaker 1: have to be one dimensional. Don't reduce yourself to just
- 23:02Speaker 1: being one thing you know in like a friendship group
- 23:05Speaker 1: or even at work, like you might be the responsible
- 23:09Speaker 1: one or the mum friend, or you might be like
- 23:10Speaker 1: the crazy, silly one that always has a wild story.
- 23:14Speaker 1: And that can be you know, sometimes it's fun to
- 23:17Speaker 1: live up to and it's who you truly are, and
- 23:20Speaker 1: it can be something to be embraced, but it can
- 23:22Speaker 1: be restricting as well, especially as we grow up and
- 23:25Speaker 1: change and evolve. And I think by doing that, your
- 23:29Speaker 1: presence is actually because I think we look at it
- 23:31Speaker 1: as like a bit of a brand. It's who I am,
- 23:33Speaker 1: it's my identity, but being more multi dimensional and letting
- 23:37Speaker 1: yourself explore those different facets of your personality actually leaves
- 23:41Speaker 1: more of a presence than you probably would think. And
- 23:44Speaker 1: then Principal three, understand the power of story. Oh, don't
- 23:51Speaker 1: rush to impress. Instead, you can shift to the energy
- 23:55Speaker 1: of every conversation you're in by offering something unexpected, like
- 24:01Speaker 1: instead of small talk, don't be afraid to overshare or
- 24:05Speaker 1: tell a silly story, or ask like an out of
- 24:07Speaker 1: pocket random question. You don't just have to ask what
- 24:12Speaker 1: did you do on the weekend? Yeah, Like, ask something
- 24:15Speaker 1: completely fucking random, like who's your controversial crutch? Or if
- 24:19Speaker 1: you could live in any fantasy world, what would it be,
- 24:21Speaker 1: And just have like a little rollerdex of random questions
- 24:24Speaker 1: and things that you want that not only give you
- 24:26Speaker 1: an opportunity to actually get to know somebody else more,
- 24:29Speaker 1: but maybe discover something about yourself because it might be
- 24:32Speaker 1: a random fucking question that you never even thought to ask.
- 24:36Speaker 1: So I feel like that's a good segue to get
- 24:38Speaker 1: into our quick fire tips to.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Flirt with life.
- 24:41Speaker 1: And my first tip is to talk to a stranger.
- 24:44Speaker 2: I saw the uniform is cool exactly.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Walk into Harvey Norman and you electric fireplace. But I
- 24:54Speaker 1: saw this posts from the Washington Post and they shared
- 24:57Speaker 1: that dozens of studies involving over thirty people found that
- 25:01Speaker 1: more people are happier when they're more social and that
- 25:04Speaker 1: we need to talk to strangers. So even for people
- 25:08Speaker 1: who consider themselves introverts, I might fall into that or
- 25:11Speaker 1: like extroverted introvert. I don't know, but I do think
- 25:13Speaker 1: that I'm probably more introverted by nature. But one of
- 25:16Speaker 1: the most surprising things that they found in these studies
- 25:18Speaker 1: that happiness research, is that introverts and extroverts are like,
- 25:23Speaker 1: feel better when they act more extroverted and socialize more.
- 25:28Speaker 1: According to Nick Epley, the author of a Little More Social,
- 25:32Speaker 1: he found that after having a conversation with a stranger,
- 25:34Speaker 1: people predict that a future conversation with another person.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Will be more enjoyable.
- 25:39Speaker 1: So it's kind of like the more that you do something,
- 25:42Speaker 1: the more you realize it's actually really fun to engage
- 25:45Speaker 1: with people that you don't know and have a conversation
- 25:48Speaker 1: with a stranger, and it takes some of that scariness
- 25:51Speaker 1: out of it. Whether or not you are a more
- 25:53Speaker 1: extroverted person or you tend to be more introverted. So
- 25:57Speaker 1: how you can do that is, rather than focusing on
- 26:00Speaker 1: what you'll say, focus on how you say it, because
- 26:05Speaker 1: I think people are like, oh, I don't know, how
- 26:07Speaker 1: do I start this conversation? What do I say next?
- 26:09Speaker 1: But it's less about what you're actually saying and more
- 26:11Speaker 1: so about like your body language. Take your headphones off,
- 26:15Speaker 1: look up from your phone, smile at people on the street,
- 26:18Speaker 1: actively listen, smile, be open, be willing to speak to
- 26:22Speaker 1: people and ask questions.
- 26:24Speaker 2: It's the Vaca energy. Yeah, you able to do that home.
- 26:27Speaker 2: You know, when you're on holidays and you get a
- 26:30Speaker 2: bit wild because you're like, nobody knows me, I can
- 26:32Speaker 2: be whoever I want. Yeah, and you go on a tour,
- 26:37Speaker 2: like maybe you're going on a boat tour for the day.
- 26:38Speaker 2: You turn to the person next to you and you go,
- 26:40Speaker 2: where are you guys from? What's the occasion? What's the
- 26:44Speaker 2: holiday for? And because you're all there and you're all strangers,
- 26:48Speaker 2: you end up like talking and making friends. Like remember
- 26:51Speaker 2: that day in Greece when we went on that boat
- 26:53Speaker 2: tour and we ended up getting We ended up by
- 26:56Speaker 2: the end of the day, we're a group of like
- 26:58Speaker 2: twelve of us yeah, we all like laughing, and we're
- 27:02Speaker 2: all like then sad because we're like cool, are we
- 27:04Speaker 2: ever going to see each other again? Probably not? Or
- 27:06Speaker 2: like I when I was with my partner last year,
- 27:09Speaker 2: we all got off the boat day and then we
- 27:12Speaker 2: all like, okay, should we all go out for drink tonight?
- 27:14Speaker 2: And we all ended up meeting up and like hanging
- 27:16Speaker 2: out after. And it's like, we don't take that energy though,
- 27:21Speaker 2: into our everyday lives because every day it's a little
- 27:26Speaker 2: bit scarier because when you're on holidays, it's like, oh,
- 27:29Speaker 2: well none of us know anyone, so you know, it's
- 27:32Speaker 2: kind of that easy way to strike up conversation. But
- 27:36Speaker 2: I remember we had gone on a holiday and we'd
- 27:39Speaker 2: gotten back and I was with friend. This was years ago,
- 27:42Speaker 2: and we're at a bar and I just turned to
- 27:44Speaker 2: a table next to us and I was like, oh, so,
- 27:46Speaker 2: what are you guys doing tonight? And my friend was
- 27:48Speaker 2: like the fuck are you doing? Like she was into it,
- 27:51Speaker 2: she was like byes, but she was like, we did
- 27:53Speaker 2: to get gus. But because I was still in vacate
- 27:56Speaker 2: mode and I was still in a holiday mode of
- 27:58Speaker 2: just talking to the person next year and being like
- 28:00Speaker 2: what's the occasion. Why are you guys out for a drink?
- 28:02Speaker 1: And she traveled from Yeah, we live here. Yeah.
- 28:06Speaker 2: But it was just like and just keeping that like
- 28:10Speaker 2: openness that you have when you're on holidays to be.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Like anniversary, birthday waiting exactly.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Like what's the worst thing they're going to do.
- 28:20Speaker 2: I don't want to talk to you. Oh well, that's fine.
- 28:22Speaker 2: I also think if you can help a stranger that
- 28:24Speaker 2: you end up feeling so gassed, like oh my god.
- 28:27Speaker 2: I was at the post office and there was these
- 28:28Speaker 2: two like older women.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Trying to put a cask of wine cask is at
- 28:34Speaker 3: the right box of wine into their like weely trolley,
- 28:39Speaker 3: Like you know there's a little like Wheely trolleys that
- 28:41Speaker 3: you can.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Get like price Line or something. Yeah, and it wouldn't
- 28:44Speaker 2: fit in their bag, but they obviously, you know, weren't
- 28:48Speaker 2: really able to carry it. So I like walked over
- 28:50Speaker 2: and I was waiting in line, and I was like, oh,
- 28:51Speaker 2: give it to me, I'll carry it, and they're like no, no, no.
- 28:53Speaker 2: I was like, just give me the one, yeah, come on,
- 28:55Speaker 2: And then like the whole time we're walking to their car,
- 28:58Speaker 2: and I was just chatting to them while I was
- 28:59Speaker 2: carrying their wine and they were just so grateful and
- 29:02Speaker 2: they were like this isn't also to be like wow,
- 29:04Speaker 2: I'm so amazing and helpful. I don't mean it that way,
- 29:08Speaker 2: but like they're like, give me buy your coffee. I
- 29:09Speaker 2: was like no, because I was so gassed. I was
- 29:13Speaker 2: like smiling on the drive home because it just felt
- 29:16Speaker 2: so nice to like help someone do something for a
- 29:19Speaker 2: stranger and like that Hope Core shit on my feet.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Never skip a Hope Care video ever ever, and if
- 29:27Speaker 2: you can, like, if you see someone needing a hand,
- 29:30Speaker 2: you will have the best day ever if you give
- 29:32Speaker 2: them that hand.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I like that.
- 29:35Speaker 2: My tip to flirt with your life is to follow
- 29:38Speaker 2: the thread of mild obsession. Oh okay, So like if
- 29:42Speaker 2: you've googled something three times this month for no practical reason,
- 29:46Speaker 2: like that's a signal, like to follow it, like buy
- 29:50Speaker 2: the cheap book at a second hand bookstore, or like
- 29:53Speaker 2: watch the documentary because it doesn't have to become a career.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:57Speaker 2: We're so like obsessed with side hustles, which like pot
- 30:01Speaker 2: kettle because I'm also like no business idea every week,
- 30:05Speaker 2: but it's like not everything needs to be an expertise,
- 30:09Speaker 2: a career opportunity, or like something you're going to follow
- 30:13Speaker 2: through on. It can just be like a fun thing
- 30:18Speaker 2: on TikTok that goes like interesting things to learn about
- 30:22Speaker 2: this week, and it's all like really random topics of
- 30:27Speaker 2: like mysteries or conspiracy theories or like the science of eggs.
- 30:32Speaker 2: I don't know, but like the weird things that you
- 30:35Speaker 2: can just learn a little bit about. And one thing
- 30:38Speaker 2: that I have really been obsessed with this week. This
- 30:40Speaker 2: should have been my obsession. Have you heard of the
- 30:43Speaker 2: Weekly fifty.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Oh yeah I have.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Yeah, so I saw influenced So for Doe for talking
- 30:51Speaker 2: about it, is that what you saw as well? I
- 30:52Speaker 2: think so. Yeah. Anyway, it's this weekly trivia quiz that
- 30:58Speaker 2: you can go and do it in person, but you
- 31:00Speaker 2: can do it online and it's of like fifty questions
- 31:03Speaker 2: of like trending Australian topics but also worldly topics and
- 31:07Speaker 2: I'm obsessed. I ended up buying a yearly subscription.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 31:11Speaker 2: So that because basically when Rob and I like get
- 31:13Speaker 2: into bed, we do like a little twenty questions of
- 31:17Speaker 2: a trivia quiz and it's just so fun because we're
- 31:19Speaker 2: like learning different things. Yeah, and it's like a fun
- 31:23Speaker 2: thing to do with your partner. That's just not like
- 31:25Speaker 2: talking about your day, which like is important, but there's
- 31:28Speaker 2: only so much you can be like, oh yeah, then
- 31:30Speaker 2: I had this meeting and like it was one last
- 31:34Speaker 2: night that was like what's longer? Like what's bigger the
- 31:39Speaker 2: distance from west to east of Australia or the diameter
- 31:43Speaker 2: of the moon, and so for like ages we were like, ah,
- 31:46Speaker 2: but these public plot twist the Western Australia to Eastern
- 31:50Speaker 2: Australia was bigger. Australia's huge. I know. But it's just
- 31:55Speaker 2: like flirting doesn't require commitment, like and that's the whole point.
- 32:00Speaker 2: So like follow through on those weird little interests you have,
- 32:03Speaker 2: learn about mermaids and where they came from or like
- 32:06Speaker 2: fairy gardens whatever.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why I love that trend of that's been
- 32:11Speaker 1: floating around of people having parties where you present your
- 32:14Speaker 1: special interest around.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Or like when we had one when some of the
- 32:21Speaker 2: girls came over and we did that PowerPoint night, Yeah,
- 32:23Speaker 2: and we all did a random PowerPoint on things. Mine
- 32:26Speaker 2: was how many shots it would take for me to
- 32:27Speaker 2: hook up with Disney dads, it was practically zero. I
- 32:31Speaker 2: was gonna say it was all like one for courage,
- 32:33Speaker 2: one for courage, one for courage.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Yeah, and then maybe you get to like Marie Spellstad
- 32:37Speaker 1: and you're like, yeah, ten yeah.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Zero, it was blackout.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Yeah No, I love that. My next quick fire tip
- 32:47Speaker 1: to flirt with your life is method dressing. Oh so
- 32:52Speaker 1: you know how celebrities method dress when they're on like
- 32:55Speaker 1: a press tool. Okay, yeah, yeah, so like Margo Robbie
- 33:01Speaker 1: had her Barbie error when she was promoting her film,
- 33:04Speaker 1: Zendaya does it immaculately for every single press tour that
- 33:08Speaker 1: she does. But I think that like adding some excitement
- 33:13Speaker 1: and like who do I want to be tonight or
- 33:15Speaker 1: who do I want to be today? And that doesn't
- 33:18Speaker 1: mean that you have to completely change your wardrobe all
- 33:21Speaker 1: the time. You know, sometimes you're like, I can't wear that,
- 33:25Speaker 1: I can't do that.
- 33:25Speaker 2: I'd need to be I need to be.
- 33:27Speaker 1: X y Z before I can wear that when people
- 33:29Speaker 1: say that, yeah, or i'd need.
- 33:31Speaker 2: To don't pull off those sunglasses. Yes you can.
- 33:35Speaker 1: And that's what I mean by method dressing. So you
- 33:37Speaker 1: don't have to go and buy a whole pink wardrobe
- 33:40Speaker 1: because you're promoting.
- 33:41Speaker 2: The Barbie movie.
- 33:43Speaker 1: But if you're like, oh, I love that jacket, but
- 33:46Speaker 1: you know, I'd need to be more confident.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Put the jacket on. Like, no one knows. Literally, I
- 33:54Speaker 2: don't think anyone has ever like walked past someone on
- 33:58Speaker 2: the train when they're wearing a jacket she was nervous
- 34:01Speaker 2: to wear. That's how they're gonna fucking that. Yeah, I
- 34:03Speaker 2: don't know.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Yeah, Like there's that meme on TikTok going around at
- 34:07Speaker 1: the moment and it's like everyone knows this is the
- 34:09Speaker 1: first time wearing capris, but that's the joke because nobody knows.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Nobody knows that you're like if you feel like you're
- 34:16Speaker 1: taking a fashion risk, or you know you're wearing a
- 34:18Speaker 1: new hats the first time that you wore it, or
- 34:21Speaker 1: you cut bangs and you never have before, and you
- 34:24Speaker 1: know you're worried about what people think, Like nobody knows.
- 34:27Speaker 2: And anyone that is clocking it and thinking that they're
- 34:31Speaker 2: not flirting with life, yeah exactly.
- 34:34Speaker 1: And I actually saw, like we've spoken about this concept
- 34:38Speaker 1: on the show before as well, but I saw Abby
- 34:39Speaker 1: Chatfield talking about it this week too, and she had
- 34:42Speaker 1: this amazing jacket from the Wolfgang from the Wolfgang, and
- 34:46Speaker 1: it's like this Penny Lane style coat with the big
- 34:49Speaker 1: fur collar and it's this vinyl material and a bright
- 34:52Speaker 1: magenta And I think somebody was like, how do you like?
- 34:56Speaker 1: I wish I could pull that off, and she was like,
- 34:59Speaker 1: you can pull it off, just put it on.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:02Speaker 1: So if you're like, oh, yeah, I could only wear
- 35:05Speaker 1: that if I was x y zed, you can be
- 35:07Speaker 1: x yzed. Just put it on.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Anyone that thinks you can't pull off something that you're
- 35:12Speaker 2: wearing is saying that because they don't think they could.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it's always a projection of yourself. Anybody who's like, oh,
- 35:20Speaker 1: why are they wearing that, it's it's because you want
- 35:22Speaker 1: to and you're a bit too scared.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Yeah. My final one is super quick, but it is
- 35:28Speaker 2: gap time. Ooh yeah, make this up, but I love it,
- 35:32Speaker 2: hip man. So gap time is now the adult version
- 35:35Speaker 2: of nap time.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Okay, so when.
- 35:38Speaker 2: We're little and we're we babbies, we will get nap time,
- 35:41Speaker 2: we will get time to just rest and have a
- 35:43Speaker 2: little fun, but we need the adult version, which is
- 35:46Speaker 2: gap time, which is basically our scheduled time to rest
- 35:50Speaker 2: because not everyone's a napper as they get older. Not
- 35:53Speaker 2: everyone wants to have a nap. Sometimes feel like shit,
- 35:55Speaker 2: But it's basically the scheduled time that you leave a
- 35:58Speaker 2: margin in your day with Noah's and it's not like
- 36:01Speaker 2: free time that you feel with errands. Okay, yeah, so
- 36:06Speaker 2: it's a genuine gap, Like it's twenty minutes where you're
- 36:09Speaker 2: not optimizing anything because we're so obsessed with productivity, like guilty. Yeah,
- 36:14Speaker 2: but like boredom is the waiting room where unexpected interests
- 36:19Speaker 2: show up. So like, let yourself be bored. We're not
- 36:23Speaker 2: bored anymore because we're like there, like with the seventeen
- 36:27Speaker 2: distractions we have in life. Yeah, but like be a
- 36:30Speaker 2: little bit bored, have a little bit of gap time.
- 36:33Speaker 2: M I love that. You see what happens, Yeah, with
- 36:36Speaker 2: the magic happens.
- 36:37Speaker 1: When we had Leela on the show, That's exactly what
- 36:39Speaker 1: she was saying, Like those moments of boredom when you're
- 36:42Speaker 1: not pacifying yourself with something is either when your brain
- 36:46Speaker 1: restores itself or when creativity happens. It's absolutely essential.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Yeah, love it, Love it chicks, Well, who's ready to
- 36:54Speaker 2: go out and flame?
- 36:56Speaker 1: Leave us a flirty comment?
- 36:58Speaker 2: Yes, actually this Yeah, we need this.
- 37:00Speaker 1: It's a good lover afly thanks for having us in
- 37:03Speaker 1: your air holes checks. We love to be here.
- 37:05Speaker 2: Bye bye
