- 0:02Speaker 1: Hey, here comes Brock Stewart of the Dodgers joining us
- 0:05Speaker 1: right now on FT Brock, We really appreciate the time.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us. So how is a glorious off
- 0:11Speaker 1: season of celebrating for you and then resting and recovering
- 0:14Speaker 1: and now spring training is around the corner.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been good. First of all, thanks for having
- 0:19Speaker 2: me on, guys, but it's been good. You know, the
- 0:22Speaker 2: World Series backed back to be part of that little
- 0:25Speaker 2: part I was was pretty cool and the trade worked
- 0:29Speaker 2: out really well for me. I gotta World Series ring
- 0:32Speaker 2: and some playoff money out of it, but that's you know.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I wasn't a huge part of it, but just to
- 0:38Speaker 2: be around it and experience it, it was awesome. And
- 0:41Speaker 2: looking forward to having way more to do with the
- 0:44Speaker 2: three pet this next season for sure.
- 0:46Speaker 3: There you go.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Now, have you, guys gotten into the conversations like a
- 0:50Speaker 1: team such as the Dodgers will do. Hey, we want
- 0:53Speaker 1: you to do your thing a little bit, but now
- 0:55Speaker 1: let's talk. This is what we really like about you,
- 0:58Speaker 1: this is why we traded for you, and this is
- 0:59Speaker 1: maybe one thing we would like to see you do differently,
- 1:01Speaker 1: whether it's mechanical or pitch usage. Any of that. Have
- 1:05Speaker 1: you guys had that conversation or is that more something?
- 1:07Speaker 1: Now you can kind of reset to your own thing
- 1:09Speaker 1: and then talk in spring training because you'll have plenty
- 1:11Speaker 1: of time there.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Yeah, we had.
- 1:13Speaker 2: We had meetings right when I got traded over, and
- 1:15Speaker 2: I had some familiarity because I was Dodger in the
- 1:17Speaker 2: past from sixteen to nine, up and down, Triple A,
- 1:21Speaker 2: the Big Leagues and all that. But I had some familiarity,
- 1:23Speaker 2: so they knew my stuff. You know everybody's They know
- 1:25Speaker 2: everybody's stuff. Everything's on true media and everything's recorded, every
- 1:29Speaker 2: pitch you throw and everything, so everybody knows everything, everything
- 1:31Speaker 2: about everybody. So the Dodgers knew what I had coming in,
- 1:34Speaker 2: and they knew that I was really good against right
- 1:35Speaker 2: handed hitters, and they wanted me to pretty much continue
- 1:38Speaker 2: what I was doing against righty's. But they did have
- 1:41Speaker 2: a couple of suggestions about lefties, maybe throwing the sweeper
- 1:44Speaker 2: to get ahead into the count. Just get me over
- 1:47Speaker 2: a little sweeper to get into account and then go
- 1:49Speaker 2: from there, because last year, in particular, I fared way
- 1:52Speaker 2: better against.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Rightis than I did lefties.
- 1:54Speaker 2: But no, the Dodgers had a great plan for me,
- 1:57Speaker 2: It's just unfortunate that I only was able to throw
- 1:59Speaker 2: four times for before my shoulder flare back up. But
- 2:02Speaker 2: like I said, just looking forward to helping out much
- 2:05Speaker 2: much more this twenty twenty sixth season.
- 2:08Speaker 3: All right, before I asked the question, because I was
- 2:10Speaker 3: going to ask you by your shoulder when you grew
- 2:11Speaker 3: up in normal Illinois, were you a Cubs or a
- 2:13Speaker 3: White Sox fan, because that's gonna dictate how the next
- 2:16Speaker 3: ten minutes your life goes.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Adrian, I'm glad you brought this up. I was actually
- 2:20Speaker 2: a White Sox fan, so uh, thank you? Okay, good, Yeah,
- 2:23Speaker 2: now we can be positive.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Thank you. Now he can have a great passage.
- 2:26Speaker 2: What I think at that time, I was thirteen or
- 2:28Speaker 2: fourteen when you guys want it all and pretty cool
- 2:31Speaker 2: to be talking to talking to you now because I
- 2:32Speaker 2: mean back back when I was thirteen or fourteen, you
- 2:35Speaker 2: you were larger than life, and that whole team was
- 2:37Speaker 2: larger than life. That was really cool. And I actually
- 2:39Speaker 2: I went to Illinois State. Do you know which one
- 2:41Speaker 2: of your World Series teammates went to Illinois State?
- 2:44Speaker 4: Neil Cox Katzi. Yeah, yeah, he's a great guy.
- 2:48Speaker 3: He is a great gross great guy, great good should
- 2:50Speaker 3: have been him all day.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Hey day before I asked this question, Brock, like, don't
- 2:55Speaker 5: come on here and be you know, we don't need
- 2:58Speaker 5: to lie to be friends. Like this could be a
- 2:59Speaker 5: great interview. There's no such thing as you either had
- 3:04Speaker 5: a bunch of friends and you were a Cubs fan,
- 3:06Speaker 5: or you didn't have friends and you were a white
- 3:08Speaker 5: Sox fan. Isn't that how it goes in northern Illinois.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I think I had that.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I had he's some central just enough friends, and I
- 3:16Speaker 2: was a Sox fan. I was one of like so
- 3:18Speaker 2: my hometown let me to normal Illinois, right in the
- 3:21Speaker 2: middle of the state. So like, I would say, sixty
- 3:23Speaker 2: percent Cubs fans, thirty percent Cardinal fans, and then I
- 3:25Speaker 2: was one of the ten percent.
- 3:26Speaker 4: White Sox fans. And it might it might not even
- 3:28Speaker 4: be ten percent, but I was one of those small,
- 3:30Speaker 4: small percentage of white Sox fans.
- 3:33Speaker 3: By the way, yeah, I can live with Cardinals or
- 3:35Speaker 3: white Sox so normal, You're normal. The sixty percent of
- 3:38Speaker 3: the problem, okay. But by the way, crowds is just jealous,
- 3:41Speaker 3: because Brock, you had a fathead of me in your
- 3:43Speaker 3: room growing up, and crats never have that, So it's okay,
- 3:46Speaker 3: it's okay.
- 3:46Speaker 5: I always fathead.
- 3:48Speaker 4: I don't know about the fathead. I don't know about that.
- 3:50Speaker 3: It's always a head. Yeah you were you weren't that.
- 3:53Speaker 3: You weren't that coy Oh I had a fat I
- 3:55Speaker 3: have one. I had a fat head. I was the
- 3:57Speaker 3: White Sox fathead guy, which is kind of no. I
- 3:59Speaker 3: mean his in his mind, you aren't. That's fine, that's fine.
- 4:03Speaker 3: In your mind.
- 4:04Speaker 5: You were that cool.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I was.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I was also a fan of I mean, yeah, you
- 4:07Speaker 2: were great, AJ. But that's starting rotation, especially in the postseason.
- 4:10Speaker 2: That starting rotation was silly.
- 4:12Speaker 3: What they what they preaed, but they couldn't have done
- 4:14Speaker 3: it without the catcher, Brock. Don't ever forget.
- 4:16Speaker 4: That the game manager behind.
- 4:19Speaker 3: The dish exactly. All right, So let's get back to
- 4:22Speaker 3: you now that we're now the Cratch has done glazing me.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Thank you, Cratch. How's your shoulder because you missed the
- 4:28Speaker 3: end of the year with the shoulder and you had surgery?
- 4:30Speaker 3: Am I am? I correct? Do you have surgery? Ye?
- 4:32Speaker 3: So how's the rehab it? Will you be ready for
- 4:34Speaker 3: spring or what's the prognosis for you going forward?
- 4:39Speaker 4: So the rehab's going well. It's a you know, it's
- 4:41Speaker 4: been mostly smooth. You know, there's some.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Days that it's kind of you got to knock the
- 4:45Speaker 2: cobwebs off when you play catch, and especially each step
- 4:48Speaker 2: up in intensity, I've had to deal with a little
- 4:51Speaker 2: bit of the cobwebs. But the recovery has been really good.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I'm able to play catch the next day. Everything's feeling clean,
- 4:58Speaker 2: feeling great going through certain ranges, which is not always
- 5:01Speaker 2: been the case. So yeah, I mean, I'm not exactly
- 5:05Speaker 2: sure when I'll be activated for the season.
- 5:06Speaker 4: I think I'll have.
- 5:07Speaker 2: To spend a little bit time on the injured list
- 5:09Speaker 2: just to start the year. I'm not off the mound yet,
- 5:12Speaker 2: so I think I'll get off the mound within the
- 5:14Speaker 2: next few weeks, once I get out to Arizona and
- 5:16Speaker 2: get some cleats on. I think at that point that
- 5:19Speaker 2: then we can, you know, they get eyes on me
- 5:22Speaker 2: and then see where I'm at and maybe think about
- 5:25Speaker 2: getting off the mound within another couple of weeks. But
- 5:27Speaker 2: I don't think I'm getting the vibes that there's no
- 5:31Speaker 2: rush with this. We want to make sure, we want
- 5:32Speaker 2: to make sure the shoulder is good to go for
- 5:35Speaker 2: the you know, the dog days of summer and then
- 5:38Speaker 2: leading into leading into the fall baseball when it gets
- 5:41Speaker 2: really fun. I think that's when they want me at
- 5:43Speaker 2: my best, and that's when I am expecting to be
- 5:45Speaker 2: at my best. So whatever it takes to get to
- 5:48Speaker 2: that point, it is what it is. I've dealt with
- 5:50Speaker 2: injuries before, so I'm familiar with this rehab process and.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Really take it day by day.
- 5:57Speaker 2: So every every day I go into tread athletics here
- 5:59Speaker 2: in Chars, then I go to my PT clinic down
- 6:02Speaker 2: the road and just do what I have to do.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Try to try to be better than I was the
- 6:07Speaker 2: day before and try to feel better than the day
- 6:09Speaker 2: day before. So yeah, I like where I'm at. There's
- 6:12Speaker 2: still a little bit of a road to go, but
- 6:14Speaker 2: you know, I'm out to one hundred and fifty one
- 6:16Speaker 2: hundred and fifty feet throwing in the mid eighties, so
- 6:18Speaker 2: I think I'm I think I'm on the right path
- 6:21Speaker 2: to getting where I need to be to help the
- 6:23Speaker 2: twenty twenty six Dodgers.
- 6:25Speaker 5: Can you confirm that they told you to take your time?
- 6:28Speaker 5: Because we hear all the time. We see, you know,
- 6:30Speaker 5: like this guy had this and we always just say.
- 6:33Speaker 5: It feels like the Dodgers are just they're playing for
- 6:35Speaker 5: the postseason, and to me, it's the smartest thing, Like
- 6:40Speaker 5: why try to just burn some dude out when he's
- 6:43Speaker 5: going to be elite in the postseason. So, can you
- 6:45Speaker 5: confirm that the Dodgers have said slow down, take your time.
- 6:50Speaker 5: The most important time of year is October.
- 6:54Speaker 2: They know that everybody knows that that the most important
- 6:57Speaker 2: time is late in the season, the playoff push and
- 6:59Speaker 2: then in the playoff. But no, I I can say
- 7:01Speaker 2: with a hundred percent honesty, they have not told me
- 7:03Speaker 2: to take it easy.
- 7:05Speaker 4: It's more so just the the.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Vibe I'm getting from the training staff and kind of
- 7:09Speaker 2: the throwing schedule that they're sending me. But no, I honestly,
- 7:13Speaker 2: they they have never said, you know, we're gonna we're
- 7:16Speaker 2: gonna hold you back until you're one hundred percent and
- 7:20Speaker 2: you know if that's you know, July or August, and
- 7:23Speaker 2: so be it. No, they have not said that. I'm
- 7:25Speaker 2: I'm fully anticipating being activated, you know, not too far
- 7:29Speaker 2: into the season, hopefully sometime I really don't know, but
- 7:32Speaker 2: around around the beginning of May. Maybe we will see,
- 7:35Speaker 2: you know, like I said, there's a long there's a
- 7:37Speaker 2: there's some road.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Left to go before I get activated.
- 7:40Speaker 2: So uh, like I said, just take it one day
- 7:42Speaker 2: at a time, and UH should be good.
- 7:47Speaker 3: By the way, you mentioned something you mentioned you're a
- 7:49Speaker 3: tread You don't work with, you don't work with Justin Nicolino.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Do you have a trick, because if you do, I'm
- 7:54Speaker 3: gonna tell you to stay far far away from him.
- 7:57Speaker 4: So I don't.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I don't work directly with him, but it was always
- 8:00Speaker 2: around and he's one of a kind. He's he's the man.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I've got to got to know him a little bit
- 8:05Speaker 2: this offseason, and I know he spent some time in
- 8:07Speaker 2: the big leagues. So yeah, just just to talk with him.
- 8:10Speaker 2: He's he's awesome and he's a character too.
- 8:12Speaker 3: He's ask him just do me a favor. Next time
- 8:15Speaker 3: you see him, just say, hey, tell me about the
- 8:17Speaker 3: time you went to Baker's Bay. Just just ask him
- 8:20Speaker 3: that and then just let him go for about two
- 8:22Speaker 3: hours on his experience when we went we went on vacation.
- 8:26Speaker 3: One time went on vacation, we went on a guy's
- 8:28Speaker 3: trip to play golf together, and just let him fill
- 8:30Speaker 3: you in on that. It'll take it's going to take
- 8:32Speaker 3: you a bit. It's a hilarious story, especially when we
- 8:35Speaker 3: returned home. They'll tell you what happened and you probably
- 8:37Speaker 3: won't believe it.
- 8:38Speaker 4: That's great.
- 8:39Speaker 2: So I'm not very confident in my ability to tell stories,
- 8:42Speaker 2: but I'll tell you what. I don't know him super well,
- 8:44Speaker 2: but that guy seems like he could tell a good story.
- 8:46Speaker 4: So I'm gonna go. Ah, I'll see him tomorrow, so
- 8:49Speaker 4: I'll ask him tomorrow about it.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Okay, just call him Tiger Dick. Sorry, I know, just
- 8:53Speaker 3: say hey, Tiger Dick, A J says, Hi. I guarantee
- 8:56Speaker 3: you'll know what you're talking about.
- 8:58Speaker 4: All right, sounds good.
- 9:00Speaker 5: All right, Well, you have to tell the story about
- 9:02Speaker 5: when you got traded last year along with the cavalcade
- 9:06Speaker 5: of guy did they give Did they get a whole
- 9:07Speaker 5: bust together and ship you all to the airport at
- 9:10Speaker 5: the same time when they got rid of half your team?
- 9:14Speaker 4: No, but that would have made sense.
- 9:17Speaker 2: That was a you know, Dodgers aside, la aside, the
- 9:20Speaker 2: Dodgers aside. That was a really sad day because you know,
- 9:23Speaker 2: I got to be really close with all those guys
- 9:25Speaker 2: up in Minnesota, and there's so many good people in
- 9:27Speaker 2: that organization and in that city, and that you know
- 9:32Speaker 2: that a whole area Minnesota nice is a real thing.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Those people are the best. They deserve a winning team.
- 9:37Speaker 2: It's kind of unfortunate to see what transpired last year.
- 9:40Speaker 4: And then.
- 9:42Speaker 2: You know the issue with the president, Derek Falvin kind
- 9:46Speaker 2: of breaking up with the Twins here recently. You know,
- 9:51Speaker 2: I don't know what it's all about. I just know
- 9:52Speaker 2: that the Twins deserve a winning team. And like I said,
- 9:55Speaker 2: a lot of great people up there. But that that
- 9:57Speaker 2: day was crazy. I mean, I think I was one
- 9:59Speaker 2: of the first guys to go on that trade deadline
- 10:01Speaker 2: day and then kind of just you know, watching as
- 10:05Speaker 2: the day went. It was shocking. It was shocking. They
- 10:08Speaker 2: did a total fire sale. Pretty much everybody that was
- 10:13Speaker 2: you know, a rental, a free agent definitely was gone.
- 10:16Speaker 2: And then even some controllable guys like I get in
- 10:19Speaker 2: my case, you know, I'm thirty at the time, thirty
- 10:22Speaker 2: three now thirty four, battled with some injuries my whole career,
- 10:27Speaker 2: so maybe trade.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Me, get some value back for me.
- 10:30Speaker 2: But you know, some of the controllable guys were a
- 10:32Speaker 2: little head scratching, like Louis Barland going to Toronto. I
- 10:35Speaker 2: mean he was controller for four or five more seasons
- 10:38Speaker 2: and throws one hundred could have been their closer. But yeah,
- 10:41Speaker 2: I mean there's reasons for everything. I don't know what's
- 10:43Speaker 2: going on with ownership in the Twins at the front
- 10:45Speaker 2: office or.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Anything like that, but.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Yeah, just a wild day for me and my Twins teammates.
- 10:51Speaker 2: But then when I learned that I was going to
- 10:53Speaker 2: LA where I had some familiarity, and that I was joining.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Quite possibly the best team ever, pretty cool. Yeah, pretty cool.
- 11:01Speaker 2: That side of it was awesome, and I was really
- 11:03Speaker 2: looking forward to getting out of there, out of Cleveland.
- 11:08Speaker 2: We were on the road in Cleveland, really looking forward
- 11:10Speaker 2: to getting out into LA is what I meant to say.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Yeah, only three or four times for him last year,
- 11:17Speaker 4: but looking forward to helping out a lot more.
- 11:20Speaker 5: There's a lot of negative around the Twins with getting
- 11:22Speaker 5: rid of everybody ownership, not sure all that stuff. But
- 11:25Speaker 5: if you look at twenty four, twenty three actually and
- 11:29Speaker 5: twenty four maybe one of the most dominant bullpens that
- 11:33Speaker 5: I've seen that really didn't get to shine their light
- 11:37Speaker 5: brightly in huge, huge playoff games. What do they do
- 11:41Speaker 5: like part of the fact that they got rid of everybody.
- 11:44Speaker 5: It almost seems like the Twins are like, yeah, sure,
- 11:46Speaker 5: we'll find Brock Stewart from the injured list independent league,
- 11:49Speaker 5: and we'll go and turn them around into this elite
- 11:53Speaker 5: bullpen guy. You know, who heard of Louis Varland before?
- 11:55Speaker 3: Who?
- 11:55Speaker 5: You know, they really created this bullpen that kind of came.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Came out of nowhere.
- 12:00Speaker 5: What were they doing during that time and is it
- 12:03Speaker 5: something that they can continue to do to find that
- 12:05Speaker 5: massive value in bullpen guys.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't really know what they did necessarily.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I joined as a minor league free agent with the
- 12:14Speaker 2: Twins back in the summer of twenty two, and right
- 12:16Speaker 2: off the bat, I could tell that the Twins were
- 12:19Speaker 2: very forward thinking when it comes to pitching and very analytical,
- 12:23Speaker 2: and you know, they wanted you to lean on your
- 12:24Speaker 2: strengths and they you know, they did that that really
- 12:29Speaker 2: well with the pitching staff and you know, the pitching
- 12:31Speaker 2: staff and the front office side of things, and then
- 12:33Speaker 2: like the player development side of things. Everybody was open
- 12:35Speaker 2: and honest with everybody, and it just seemed like a
- 12:39Speaker 2: well oiled machine when I got there, and I know,
- 12:41Speaker 2: I knew we had a lot of talent in the
- 12:44Speaker 2: bullpen and in the starting rotation, I mean, and on
- 12:47Speaker 2: that team. Honestly, if you look at the twenty three
- 12:49Speaker 2: to twenty five rosters for the Twins, I mean, pretty
- 12:53Speaker 2: good rosters. Never really put it together consistently, but I
- 12:57Speaker 2: mean last year, I remember, we were part of a
- 12:59Speaker 2: I think we won thirteen in a row early in
- 13:01Speaker 2: the season, So we definitely were always capable of playing
- 13:05Speaker 2: winning baseball. We just never really strung it together totally.
- 13:08Speaker 2: But no, like you said, there was a lot of
- 13:10Speaker 2: talent in the bullpen. You know, I really think we
- 13:15Speaker 2: have a lot of talent this Dodger's bullpen. But I'm
- 13:16Speaker 2: not sure if I'll be part of a bullpen that
- 13:19Speaker 2: had more talent than some of these Twins bullpens. And yeah, shoot,
- 13:24Speaker 2: what was it last year? Five of the guys, the
- 13:27Speaker 2: eight guys in the bullpen were traded.
- 13:30Speaker 5: All right, Well, then you have to ask the typical
- 13:33Speaker 5: Dodger player question, have you talked to Show Hey? Or
- 13:37Speaker 5: do you have to have more than five appearances to
- 13:40Speaker 5: have talked to Show Hey? And do you have any
- 13:42Speaker 5: good Show Hey stories?
- 13:44Speaker 4: Oh Man stories?
- 13:46Speaker 2: I don't know, I just I just it's really intriguing
- 13:49Speaker 2: to watch him go about his business every day and
- 13:52Speaker 2: inspiring honestly because he I mean, I am a bullpen
- 13:57Speaker 2: middle reliever and I'll maybe pitch you know, every other game,
- 14:00Speaker 2: every third game. So but I'm I'm training, and my
- 14:03Speaker 2: my training takes you know, pretty much all day. Like
- 14:06Speaker 2: I have maybe an hour hour and a half of
- 14:08Speaker 2: downtime before the game starts, where I just chill. But
- 14:11Speaker 2: to see him train for both hitting and pitching is incredible,
- 14:15Speaker 2: and he has his routine down to like the minute,
- 14:17Speaker 2: and he knows what he has to do, and like
- 14:20Speaker 2: I said, it's really inspiring. I haven't spent a time,
- 14:23Speaker 2: you know, as much time as I want to around him,
- 14:25Speaker 2: and I'm looking forward to this spring and then this season.
- 14:27Speaker 4: But so I don't have any crazy stories. I just
- 14:29Speaker 4: know he's a super good dude.
- 14:30Speaker 2: And when I came off the mound after my first
- 14:32Speaker 2: outing when I joined the team, he just looked.
- 14:34Speaker 4: At me nasty. I said, yeah, let's go, man. So
- 14:40Speaker 4: it's cool.
- 14:40Speaker 2: It's just cool to see that he's a great person,
- 14:42Speaker 2: you know, along with other guys Freddie MOOKI all those
- 14:44Speaker 2: guys you know that'll have all the money in the world.
- 14:47Speaker 2: A lot of people might think that they they're just
- 14:50Speaker 2: gonna cash it in and show up and yeah, I
- 14:51Speaker 2: guess this is what I do and just take home
- 14:53Speaker 2: a paycheck and just you know, get ready for the
- 14:56Speaker 2: game and go play. But no, they're the they're the
- 14:58Speaker 2: first some of the first guys there. They're the weight
- 15:00Speaker 2: room all the time. Like I said about show Hey,
- 15:02Speaker 2: and it's the same with Freddy and Muki and all
- 15:04Speaker 2: those guys, like they they get after it, which is
- 15:06Speaker 2: really inspiring because they could easily, you know, just kind
- 15:10Speaker 2: of cash it in and take it easy and know
- 15:13Speaker 2: that they're going to play every day and know that
- 15:16Speaker 2: they're going to have a paycheck coming in every uh
- 15:18Speaker 2: every other Friday. But no, some of those guys are
- 15:21Speaker 2: the hardest workers on the team, which is really really
- 15:23Speaker 2: cool to see. And show he's the man. I have
- 15:24Speaker 2: nothing but good things to say about show Hey.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Brock. What about your view? Oh a J? You got
- 15:32Speaker 3: or no? Yeah, sorry, Scott, cheez you want to talk
- 15:35Speaker 3: so much? Change you missed, You missed one day of
- 15:37Speaker 3: work and now you just want to cheez.
- 15:40Speaker 1: We have so we don't talk over each other too much.
- 15:43Speaker 1: And a J didn't say next.
- 15:44Speaker 4: So it's okay, it's okay, yeah, chat all.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Sorry, we do it.
- 15:49Speaker 1: We do it every day on the show. But I
- 15:52Speaker 1: guess matters right now, you've got a white Sox fan.
- 15:56Speaker 4: You talk ship behind guys backs as you're talking at all.
- 16:01Speaker 3: We I mean, I do not know has been there's
- 16:05Speaker 3: been times where you're sitting next to a guest and
- 16:07Speaker 3: when I come to spring training starting like next week,
- 16:10Speaker 3: you'll see that. I'm like, hey, just reminder, guys, people
- 16:13Speaker 3: can see my chat, so just careful what you're right, Okay,
- 16:18Speaker 3: just be careful. If you did steroids nexting Tiger Dick, sorry,
- 16:23Speaker 3: I apologize if you make sure it gives you some
- 16:25Speaker 3: ship tomorrow.
- 16:26Speaker 5: If you do steroids, I will put it in the
- 16:29Speaker 5: thread so that you see it when you're sitting next
- 16:32Speaker 5: to AJ. So spring training is coming up and any
- 16:35Speaker 5: x p D guys, I'm just gonna be like, hey,
- 16:39Speaker 5: j ask him about doing steroids.
- 16:43Speaker 3: That's not true.
- 16:45Speaker 2: You know it goes for you guys. See how it
- 16:47Speaker 2: goes for you guys in the whole the whole show.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Yeah, not true, not true. Not good. Anyways, Now onto Yamamoto.
- 16:55Speaker 3: I think Yamamoto might have been on something which called
- 16:57Speaker 3: adrenaline this this postseason because the Dodgers are super careful
- 17:01Speaker 3: with everybody and they all muddles like, Oh, I threw
- 17:03Speaker 3: Game six, don't worry, guys, I'll come in and shove
- 17:05Speaker 3: in Game seven the next day. To how impressive was
- 17:08Speaker 3: that Because you mentioned, you know, you're a middle reliever
- 17:10Speaker 3: and you might pitch every other day. This guy started
- 17:13Speaker 3: and then closed it out the next day.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just I'm just thinking back to when I
- 17:17Speaker 2: was a starter, you know, coming through the minor leagues.
- 17:19Speaker 2: You know, I'm a bullpen guy. Now they're all failed starters,
- 17:22Speaker 2: but when I was a starter, I just know how
- 17:25Speaker 2: I felt after throwing six seven innings and the next
- 17:28Speaker 2: day especially, I mean.
- 17:30Speaker 4: I it's unbelievable. It's unprecedented.
- 17:34Speaker 2: I don't know if it'll ever happen again what he did,
- 17:37Speaker 2: and not just to you know what, he throw eight
- 17:40Speaker 2: innings Game six and then coming back for Game seven.
- 17:43Speaker 2: It'd be different if he just went out for Game
- 17:45Speaker 2: seven for like a hitter to finish an inning, but no,
- 17:48Speaker 2: he pitched what was it two and a third or
- 17:49Speaker 2: two and two thirds to finish that game seven. Truly incredible.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Another guy that has all the money in the world
- 17:57Speaker 2: but works so hard. I mean, you should his mobility routine,
- 18:01Speaker 2: and I think there's been viral clips of him doing
- 18:03Speaker 2: his mobility stuff where he's doing like headstands and handstands
- 18:05Speaker 2: and back bends. He can contort his body like I'll
- 18:09Speaker 2: never be able to. But no, he's a really hard worker.
- 18:12Speaker 2: And what he did, I mean it should be national news.
- 18:17Speaker 2: I say it all the time, but like show Hay's
- 18:18Speaker 2: three homer game, the ten punchies and then Yamamoto what
- 18:21Speaker 2: he did. I mean, this should be even if you
- 18:23Speaker 2: don't like baseball, if you just you know, barely follow sports,
- 18:26Speaker 2: like this should be front page headline news.
- 18:29Speaker 4: What those guys did for us truly incredible.
- 18:33Speaker 5: Where were you during that run? A lot of people
- 18:36Speaker 5: know about where Shohey was during the World Series run?
- 18:38Speaker 5: He was on the field, Guys that are injured, guys
- 18:41Speaker 5: that are not active. Where were you and how did
- 18:44Speaker 5: you feel like the Dodgers, Like was there a give
- 18:46Speaker 5: and take in all of that?
- 18:50Speaker 4: So I was with the team until the CS, and
- 18:53Speaker 4: then I came home to Charlotte after the CS and
- 18:59Speaker 4: everybody was super with it. I mean there's mental mental
- 19:02Speaker 4: warfare on my side. I just didn't. I the last
- 19:04Speaker 4: thing I wanted to be for the team was in
- 19:06Speaker 4: the way. You know.
- 19:07Speaker 2: I only pitched four times for him in August and
- 19:10Speaker 2: then tried to come back at the end of the season,
- 19:12Speaker 2: didn't work out, ended up getting surgery. So I was
- 19:14Speaker 2: on the shelf, and I, you know, barely helped the team.
- 19:17Speaker 4: So the last thing I wanted to do was be
- 19:19Speaker 4: in the way and for PT.
- 19:21Speaker 2: When the team was on the road and the Philly
- 19:24Speaker 2: See Philly series and then the.
- 19:25Speaker 4: Brewers series, I was going to. UH.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I was going to a PT clinic in Beverly Hills,
- 19:30Speaker 2: So that was like a kind of an hour, like
- 19:32Speaker 2: an hour long drive work from where I was. So
- 19:35Speaker 2: just because I wasn't traveling with the team, and just
- 19:37Speaker 2: because I had to drive about an hour to Pete
- 19:39Speaker 2: and I had kids that we wanted to get back
- 19:42Speaker 2: to Charlotte and get into a they call it school,
- 19:44Speaker 2: but it's basically daycare.
- 19:45Speaker 4: It's called weekday school.
- 19:46Speaker 2: But UH, I was just open and honest with the daughters,
- 19:49Speaker 2: and UH they kind of let me do whatever I
- 19:51Speaker 2: wanted to do, so they had no issues with me
- 19:54Speaker 2: heading home, and it was kind of weird just watching
- 19:57Speaker 2: the team, but like I said, I was barely part
- 19:59Speaker 2: of it. So but I was big old cheerleader from
- 20:04Speaker 2: my couch at home. But to be there with the
- 20:07Speaker 2: team for the home games of the playoffs this past
- 20:09Speaker 2: season was super cool, and it's a you know, I
- 20:13Speaker 2: really want to be part of a three peat and
- 20:15Speaker 2: I really want to have a lot more to do
- 20:16Speaker 2: with it, and that then that's when I can really
- 20:19Speaker 2: enjoy the celebrations, enjoy.
- 20:20Speaker 4: The parade and all that. So no, I'm working each
- 20:23Speaker 4: and every.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Day to feel to feel what those guys felt after
- 20:27Speaker 2: the last out of this game seven was made. I
- 20:29Speaker 2: think that's what everybody dreams of, So in twenty twenty six,
- 20:33Speaker 2: really looking forward to being a part of it. And
- 20:36Speaker 2: you know, everybody knows we got a great team and
- 20:39Speaker 2: could go for the three peat. So that's, you know,
- 20:41Speaker 2: that's where my mind is going to be each and
- 20:42Speaker 2: every day. I'm going to try to try to go
- 20:44Speaker 2: to work and be better than I was the day
- 20:46Speaker 2: before and help out the team and be able to
- 20:49Speaker 2: be around the celebrations and you know feel like, you know,
- 20:52Speaker 2: you really earned it.
- 20:53Speaker 4: So I'm really looking forward to that.
- 20:56Speaker 5: I was the reason I asked that was because I
- 20:58Speaker 5: was pretty much in the same situation. I fired halfway
- 21:00Speaker 5: through the year from the Royals. I was on the
- 21:03Speaker 5: team Salvador Perez played all the time, so even if
- 21:05Speaker 5: I was on the team, I probably wasn't going to
- 21:07Speaker 5: do a whole lot anyway, and I watched this team.
- 21:11Speaker 5: I watched the Royals win against the Mets from my couch.
- 21:15Speaker 5: The rest of my family had watched pretty much the
- 21:16Speaker 5: whole postseason, and they all went to bed in game
- 21:19Speaker 5: I think it was Game five they beat the Mets,
- 21:22Speaker 5: or Game six, I forget exactly what it was. So
- 21:25Speaker 5: when they won, or even that whole Game seven, how
- 21:29Speaker 5: stressful or and how much elation did you have when
- 21:33Speaker 5: they won? Did you pop your own bottle of champagne?
- 21:39Speaker 2: No, no popping champagne. I think we did have some
- 21:42Speaker 2: wine that night though. Game seven night, me and my wife.
- 21:45Speaker 2: But yeah, I just watched for my couch. I actually
- 21:48Speaker 2: Game seven, as the game got laid into the laid
- 21:51Speaker 2: into the Game seven, I was looking at the MLB app,
- 21:54Speaker 2: like the game day app, and it's actually like a
- 21:57Speaker 2: minute ahead of the broadcast. And I'm not proud of
- 22:01Speaker 2: myself for I'm not proud of myself for doing that,
- 22:03Speaker 2: but it made it made it easier once whatever transpired
- 22:06Speaker 2: on TV, I already knew it was going to happen,
- 22:09Speaker 2: so I kind of made it easier that way. So
- 22:12Speaker 2: I saw, you know, Alejandro Kurr grounds into double played
- 22:16Speaker 2: in the game, and I just shot up off the couch,
- 22:19Speaker 2: you know, threw my hands in the air, started jumping around,
- 22:21Speaker 2: and then sure enough, like thirty seconds later, it happens
- 22:24Speaker 2: on TV. I just had a big embrace with my wife,
- 22:26Speaker 2: and maybe it got a little emotional. You know. I
- 22:29Speaker 2: wasn't a part of it, but you know, just to
- 22:32Speaker 2: play a small part of it, and I wasn't part
- 22:35Speaker 2: of the postseason, but just to play a small part
- 22:37Speaker 2: of the regular season and just to be around the
- 22:39Speaker 2: team and just to see how they work every day
- 22:41Speaker 2: and how special of a group it was was really
- 22:44Speaker 2: really cool. But that game, I think it was Game
- 22:48Speaker 2: three that went into fifteen sixteen, seventeen innings, whatever it was,
- 22:52Speaker 2: I was so I was on the couch and then
- 22:53Speaker 2: I was like, I gotta go lay down.
- 22:55Speaker 4: So I went to my bed and I had my
- 22:56Speaker 4: phone and I was watching YouTube TV. So I was
- 22:59Speaker 4: watching the game on my phone in bed, and you know,
- 23:01Speaker 4: the twelve inning or.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Whatever rolls around, and I fall asleep, but you know,
- 23:05Speaker 2: I fall asleep with my phone on my chest, still playing,
- 23:07Speaker 2: still loud from the volume of the broadcast, and I
- 23:11Speaker 2: wake up like like two hours later, and I pull
- 23:15Speaker 2: up my phone and the game literally just ended. I'm
- 23:18Speaker 2: seeing like the on field celebration from Freddy's homer just wild.
- 23:23Speaker 2: I mean I'm on East Coast in Charlotte, so three
- 23:26Speaker 2: hours ahead of that, and I mean that game went
- 23:28Speaker 2: to after midnight on the West coast, so it was
- 23:31Speaker 2: like three point thirty in the morning when I happened
- 23:33Speaker 2: to wake up and look at my phone and saw
- 23:35Speaker 2: him celebrating.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Super cool.
- 23:37Speaker 4: And then you know, of course, it took me two
- 23:39Speaker 4: hours to get back to sleep, So the next day
- 23:41Speaker 4: was rough, but no, super super cool to be a
- 23:44Speaker 4: cheerleader and to see those guys have that success, because
- 23:48Speaker 4: like I said, great group of guys. They work so hard.
- 23:52Speaker 4: But yeah, uh, to be to be a part of
- 23:54Speaker 4: a playoff push and hopefully a playoff run this season
- 23:57Speaker 4: coming up will be awesome.
- 24:02Speaker 3: I don't Oh yeah, okay, hey Brock, did you get
- 24:05Speaker 3: any outs during the regular season. I just want to know,
- 24:07Speaker 3: did you get any outs?
- 24:11Speaker 4: I got some big outs with the Twins, and then
- 24:13Speaker 4: yeah I got.
- 24:13Speaker 3: No I'm talking about for the Dodgers. Did you make
- 24:15Speaker 3: any outs with the dot Did you get any outs
- 24:17Speaker 3: with the Dodge? I then, do you know what? You
- 24:21Speaker 3: deserve it because you helped them get there. I don't
- 24:23Speaker 3: care what anyone says. You helped them get there if
- 24:25Speaker 3: you got one out. Hell, if you got made one
- 24:27Speaker 3: appearance and got face to batter, you saved somebody from
- 24:30Speaker 3: facing that batter. So you deserve it. So anyone that
- 24:32Speaker 3: says you don't deserve it, screw them. They're wrong because
- 24:35Speaker 3: you if you if you appeared on the field and
- 24:37Speaker 3: did anything, it showed up one day talk to somebody.
- 24:40Speaker 3: You deserve it. So hold your held up high. If
- 24:42Speaker 3: anyone says all you didn't pitch in the playoffs, screw
- 24:45Speaker 3: them because that's not true. You helped people get there
- 24:47Speaker 3: whether and you were hurt, which is not your fault,
- 24:49Speaker 3: So screw them. And then the second thing I want
- 24:52Speaker 3: to know is, imagine you got to fall asleep, Okay
- 24:56Speaker 3: after that game that ended like three in the morning.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Now imagine if you're me and you have to do
- 25:00Speaker 3: a postgame show at three in the morning after that
- 25:03Speaker 3: game's end because your bosses are mean to make you
- 25:05Speaker 3: stay up and stay up and then have to go
- 25:08Speaker 3: on the air. So happy you got your sleepy, sleepy
- 25:11Speaker 3: time in, but some of us had to stay up,
- 25:13Speaker 3: watch the whole game and then discuss it.
- 25:16Speaker 4: That's what coffee's for, right, I mean you can you're
- 25:18Speaker 4: a grinder, age, you're a grinder. You're a catcher. You
- 25:20Speaker 4: know your backstop. You guys are.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Grinding, not a grinder. No, exactly, Yeah, why am I?
- 25:28Speaker 3: First of all, Bro, what do you consider a grinder?
- 25:30Speaker 3: Because Kratz says, oh, you only spent six years in
- 25:33Speaker 3: the minor leagues, you're not a grinder.
- 25:39Speaker 4: It's different for everybody. I consider ninety.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Oh actually seven years, if we're going to get technical.
- 25:49Speaker 2: I think it's different for everybody personally. I think you
- 25:51Speaker 2: can tell if a guy's a grinder simply by watching
- 25:54Speaker 2: him for like twenty thirty minutes about how he approaches
- 25:56Speaker 2: each day and how he goes about his day.
- 25:58Speaker 4: That's my this opinion. So under the fact that the
- 26:02Speaker 4: fact that you pushed through and we're able to do
- 26:05Speaker 4: that postgame show at four and am man, you're keep
- 26:07Speaker 4: it up. You work like you and.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Well I like you. You're to be a regular on
- 26:12Speaker 3: the show now. Thank you. We just just signed you
- 26:15Speaker 3: to it.
- 26:15Speaker 4: Thank you perfect.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Well.
- 26:19Speaker 1: It's worked out great, Brock.
- 26:20Speaker 4: Hope you enjoyed it.
- 26:21Speaker 1: I didn't even realize the White Sox connection, so you
- 26:24Speaker 1: made AJ's day. Thanks for joining us, and uh we'll
- 26:27Speaker 1: see out in spring training.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Awesome, see you guys soon. Thanks for having me on.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Really appreciate it.
