SIDEBAR: Precious In His Sight

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. — Psalm 116:15

What does God mean when He calls the death of His saints precious?

In this SIDEBAR, we slow down over that one word. Precious does not mean that God delights in death. It means that the life and death of one who belongs to Him is valuable, weighty, costly, and never insignificant in His sight.

We may see a final breath. God sees the entire life.

We may see loss. God sees one of His own.

And if our death is precious in His sight, then our life should never be lived as though it is cheap.
