Transcript
- 0:04SPEAKER_03: This is the Flyer Show in podcast form brought to you from the team at Flyer.
- 0:08SPEAKER_03: It's your weekly dose of general aviation news, views, and flying chat.
- 0:12SPEAKER_03: In this episode, we're previewing Aero, the one that takes place in Free Free 11, probably the best aviation event in the world, at least in April.
- 0:19SPEAKER_03: And plus, there'll be the usual observations, digressions, opinions, and all sorts from the team.
- 0:23SPEAKER_03: So if you like aeroplanes, airfield, airspace, well, not many people like airspace, but you know what I mean.
- 0:28SPEAKER_03: If you're interested in it and the strange little world that surrounds them, you're in the right place.
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: Hello and welcome to this week's Flyer Show.
- 0:34SPEAKER_03: My name's Ian Seeger.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: I'm Ed Hicks.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: And I'm Dave Calderwood.
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: In this week's show, we'll be giving you a bit of a preview about Aero.
- 0:40SPEAKER_03: So uh get the thanks in early.
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: Thank you very much, Sirius Continental Airspace Technologies, Lone Mountain Aircraft, for sponsoring our coverage there.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: Um and also thanks to Sky Demon for sponsoring the channel and this show.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: So here is this week's Sky Demon tip.
- 1:01SPEAKER_05: Hi, I'm Hannah from Sky Demon and this is this week's top tip.
- 1:05SPEAKER_05: When flying over high terrain, the colour high terrain feature is a great way to easily visualize mountain valleys and passes while planning a route.
- 1:14SPEAKER_05: Go to mapping, terrain and surface features and toggle on colour high terrain.
- 1:20SPEAKER_05: Here you can set the maximum altitude that you're willing or able to fly.
- 1:25SPEAKER_05: You'll see the colours on the map change, and there's a handy key here to tell you what the colours mean.
- 1:31SPEAKER_05: Any terrain higher than 500 feet below your reference altitude will be coloured red.
- 1:37SPEAKER_05: Then there's a band of orange for any terrain higher than a thousand feet below the reference altitude, then a band of yellow, and any terrain lower than 1500 feet below your reference altitude is shown in a pale green to contrast the high terrain, making the valleys easily visible.
- 1:55SPEAKER_05: You can also turn on colour high terrain in go flying mode, which uses your own altitude as the reference altitude.
- 2:02SPEAKER_05: For more information, go to our website skydemon.arow.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: There you go, terrain.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: So colouring in.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Who knew?
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Colouring in was an option on Sky Demon.
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: I like I like the terrain display.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: I don't like it so much when the weather's kind of like misty and foggy.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: Not foggy, but when you know visibility is a bit reduced and you know some of the longer trips through France have been a bit like that, but yeah, but um there's no question that having uh terrain alerting like that is valuable.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it makes you decide to do something sensible rather than go and try and pick your way through the valleys, I would say.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: Talking of doing sensible things, should we listen to see what Simon has for us and the weather forecast this week?
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Evening all, hope you're doing well this evening.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: And I've got some good news for you.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: It's not a bad weekend ahead.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Yes, we've got some increasing winds, and yes, we've got some cloud, uh, but actually it's not bad overall.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Um, Friday looks like it's going to be starting off okay, fairly cloudy as you can see here across many parts of uh England and Wales.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: We've got a front that's through western Scotland and down through eastern Ireland, western parts of Wales.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Notice the rain quite heavy here getting into the west of Scotland as well.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: And what we'll find is during the course of the morning that front slips eastwards.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: But look how it weakens across Scotland and northern England as it does so.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Still some hefty bursts of rain across parts of Wales and southwest England, and the front getting into the Midlands and staying across southwest England into the evening.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: But East Anglia and the South East are staying generally verifiable through the day.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Bright conditions following in from the west, some hefty showers across western parts of Scotland and Ireland, but overall not bad.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Typical bases in the uh south and east, 4,000 foot base, 10,000 foot tops.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Along the front, probably looking at 1,000 to 2,000 foot bases, tops at around about 12 to 15,000 feet, following in behind 3,000 foot bases, 12,000 foot tops, a bit higher in those heavier showers about that.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: As we go through into Saturday, so we're going to be finding still the remnants of the front across East Angler and the southeast, a few spots of rain there.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Hefty showers, though, piling into the west of Scotland through Saturday morning and spreading into central and northern Scotland as well.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: And really for Saturday, much of Scotland has seen some showers on and off through the day.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Elsewhere, well, generally it's fair, decent flying conditions to be found across many parts of England and Wales.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Yes, there could be a little bit of rain across the far southeast on and off through the day, but certainly through the channel, I think, clouds and outbreaks of rain.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Basically, probably getting to about a thousand to two thousand feet tops at about ten thousand feet across Scotland at 3,000 foot bases, 15 to 18,000 foot tops, elsewhere, 4,000 foot bases, 10,000 foot tops in relatively light winds like that.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: As we get in towards Sunday, so high pressure is going to be building.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: There it is, building in look so that by midday on Sunday it's actually centered over Ireland, but is bringing fair conditions to most.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Could just be some cloud across northern parts of Scotland, a little bit of patchy rain here.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: That cloud extends through Scotland and northern England, but the bases are relatively high, about 4,000 feet, tops about 8,000 feet.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: But for most it is a fair day and the base is 4,000 feet, tops around seven to nine thousand feet overall easing conditions.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: I should just say watch a little bit of first thing on Sunday morning, but I think that clears away quite so um not bad conditions at all.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: I think you'll agree that the weekend, but the winds do increase later on Sunday evening and into Monday coming in from an easy or north and easy to lead direction.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: So just be prepared for that.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: And that's pretty typical of an easy to north easy to leave a flow.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: I talk more about it at Aviation or Weather School.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: And if you've not been yet, why haven't you been?
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: This is your chance on the consecutive Tuesday evenings of the 12th and 19th of May between 6:30pm and 9pm to join me live online for my Aviation Weather School part one.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: I will take you beyond the Met PPL uh syllabus.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you what you really need to know about weather and whether you're a student pilot right the way through to commercial pilots who all have been to Aviation Weather School and said they got a lot from it.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, I'll get you flying more and I'll get you flying more safely.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: So you can book your place now at weatherschool.co.uk and it'll be super to see you there.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'll leave you with that for now.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Have a great, have a safe weekend, and uh, I'll see you next week.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Bye for now.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: Looks half decent for a change.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: Well, and just as well, we're going away.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: Yep, absolutely.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: Can't wait on Monday.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Right, should we move on to some news?
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: Let's move on to some news then.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: Who's first up on the news?
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: Oh, I see it's Dave.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Yes, well, British Airways has launched uh has opened, really, opened the window for applications for its 2026 fully funded pilot training scheme.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: They call it the Speedbird Pilot Academy.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: Uh they don't actually do the training, they they work with some approved training organizations to deliver it.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: Anyway, um it opened on Tuesday.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: It closes on Thursday, the 23rd of April.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Applicant applicants need to be between 17 and 58.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Uh they have to have six GCSEs or equivalent, including mass English language and assignment subject.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Um, you have to have a valid passport.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Uh the key to getting through, having spoken to the people at uh at British Airways, the key to getting through is to prepare.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Uh it's a really thorough process.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of testing going on.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: There's lots of stuff on the BA Careers website.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: And if you hadn't spotted it already, we've also done a little video with um the pilot recruitment manager, Lucy Sylvester, and also uh senior first officer Genevieve Permain, who is involved in the selection process.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: And that's definitely a way to get I I hesitate to use the word inside track, but there's some great top tips on there.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: I mean it what what comes through on that video is you really do have to be prepared and work at it.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: Um and uh you know get get going now if you're thinking about it.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: Henry, can you can you do one of those click-on-a link things up there down whichever corner it's in, and then people can look at it.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: Good.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: Um right next to you.
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: Ah, it's me.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: Hey.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: I'm up next.
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: Um so this is this is the news that Garmin have launched a new pilot watch.
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: They seem to launch them regularly.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: How big is this one?
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: 51 millimeters, if you really want to know.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: That's a bit over.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: It's a chunky one.
- 8:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's a chunky one.
- 8:42SPEAKER_03: So uh this but this one, this one's got in reach plus LTE built in, so and single button SOS.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: So even if you don't have a phone with you, you can still communicate by text and send it's it's got LTE and the satellite basically.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: Single button SOS.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: So there's no chance that I might bang the watch on my desk.
- 8:59SPEAKER_02: There's always and all of a sudden the search and rescue helicopter turns back to the box.
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: There's always a chance, I suppose.
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's it's I I suspect there's probably in that.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: I haven't actually seen one in person yet.
- 9:11SPEAKER_03: We got the press release yesterday and we got some pictures as you can see.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: Um but hopefully I'll see one at Friedrich Sarvon next week.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: Uh it's got all the normal stuff, so all the aviation tools, uh 24 hours battery life, the health tracking that you get with with Garmin and stuff like that.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: And and it's gonna cost you probably probably about twelve hundred pounds, should you want that.
- 9:30SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: And it's kind of one of those things where you go, you know, you you can have a conversation about pilot watches about whether you need them or you don't need them, uh, and people have different views.
- 9:38SPEAKER_03: But I'll tell you what, if you find yourself upside down in a field somewhere, you're gonna go, I wish I'd spent that twelve hundred quid on that one just thinking about an SOS, or something that gives you that, you can achieve that in different ways.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: But he was only found when um when people started looking for him a few hours later.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: So Yeah.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: Still.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: So hopefully find out more about that at Friedrich's Hobbins.
- 10:15SPEAKER_03: Um you've got an electric story.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: I have an electric story, yes.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: And this is the exciting news that Magni X, not Moolin X, have a have announced plans for an electric R V ten.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: Uh that that wasn't on my bingo card for this week, I must admit.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: No.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: Um uh Magni X, you'll remember, have uh they've have been working on the electric beaver, um, which we've seen a few times at uh Oshkosh.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Uh and you remember they made a hit there was a historic flight probably two or three years ago now, uh, where the uh where that was that was done live on social media.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: But uh so Magnix uh battery and um battery and motor pioneers, and they've got uh a 175 kilowatt motor that weighs 55 kilograms, um so 235 horsepower in equivalent terms.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: Um and thinking about it, Lycomi IO 540, which is typical engine for an RV10, weighs 200 kilos.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: So but obviously battery is is still the question, isn't it?
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: Um Magnix say that the motor will be available to purchase from 2027.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: Uh they've apparently turned up at Sun and Fun with an Rv10, but I suspect, um, as I've only seen a rendering of the Magnix Electric R V10, that maybe the R V10 that's there is not quite the full thing yet.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: Um but basically they're saying there's a fully integrated electric uh power electric powertrain uh con comprising motor, uh powerelectronics, uh plus uh they're in what they call the industry-leading Samsung battery product, which I must admit I had never heard of until this press release.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: So um and I have to say, because they're saying, oh, this is the this is a first, but I thought that Pipistrel once offered uh once they were had their motor and battery from the Vellis Electro up on operating, Pipistrel actually went to home builders and said, we'll sell this as a separate item.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: They did they did put it on the map.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: So I don't I don't know that's definitely a first for Magni X.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: Um anyway, uh Reed MacDonald, who's CEO of Magni X, said we're excited to bring um a marvel of electric flight to this new segment of the market.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: Uh Magni X electric engines, coupled with our industry-leading batteries, can be used uh for any application currently powered by one twenty 120 to 175 kilowatt uh piston engines.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: So why do you choose the R V ten in particular?
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: It's a popular, I would say it's you know, as kit planes go, it's a popular four-seat choice.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: It's got lots of useful load.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: Um so I'm gonna put my skeptical hat on and go, we need something with lots of useful load because batteries are heavy.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: So being experimental, it's probably quite a few.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: And allows flexibility as well, so it's it's a good, reliable, predictable airframe.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: So when you have a new airfra you when you have a new power plant, you want a trusted airframe, don't you?
- 13:08SPEAKER_03: So I look forward to seeing one flying at some point.
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: Well, did they do say that um they're hoping to have a flying aircraft later this year.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: So maybe that means Oshkosh.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: You never know.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: Did they hit have they dropped any hints about how much it might cost to have a course not.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: This is this is uh this is the the this is press information about uh about future products, and as we know, price very rarely figures.
- 13:32SPEAKER_03: And you know what that says to me?
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: Because I recognize that says to me that the low price of it is not one of their strong points in the story, otherwise they'd have been leading on that.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: Engine for your R V ten for just ten thousand pounds.
- 13:44SPEAKER_03: Ten thousand dollars or something.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: Anyway, more to come.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: More to come.
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: Dave, talking to more to come.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: There's there's a microite.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: Surprised me this story.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: The microlite is uh Auto NG, um a company called Exo Airsports and also Flylight, two British uh microlite companies, they formed a joint venture to import the Czech-made air uh microlite, the Auto NG.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: The aircraft will be arriving this month, they'll a new version of it, will be arriving this month, and we have pop them for the microlight trade fair, and it will be used for type approval.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Now I know what you're gonna say.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: Didn't we see this last year?
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: We did.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: But the difference is that was there to show it and get get some reaction.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: This one is here because it's going to go through the type approval process.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: So this one is coming here and staying here?
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: Well, if it's gonna go through the type type approval process, it's gonna have to stay here, yeah.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, very good.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: I did quite like the look of that.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: It was um it was it because I there's there's a bit of a gap now, isn't there, where the sport star used to be.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: Um so 600k, uh a nice looking 600 kg microlyte.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: And it was quite it's uh they were promising quite a pr um a competitive price point, weren't they?
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: So Yeah, yeah.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: They haven't they haven't confirmed a price at the moment.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: But uh it's a long process, the type approval process.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: As people we know have found.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: I'm pretty sure that between this, between Popum coming up and Aero next week, um we're gonna see a whole load more in the six hundred kilogram market and find out a lot more about it.
- 15:17SPEAKER_03: So good.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: Good, good, good, good, good.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: Ed, you've got a story, haven't you?
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: I've got a very exciting story because it is Piper Fury news.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 15:27SPEAKER_02: It's the name that you can't say with a I'm sure the with a straight face.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: I know, yes.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: I wish I hadn't called it.
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: It's like, what were they thinking?
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: I don't think they were thinking when they came up with Piper Fury.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: Um, I'll start.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: I'll contain my can contain my enthusiasm.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: Contain my fury, yes.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: Uh anyway, good news for European owners of Piper M700 Furies, because you can have a factory option to have more propeller blades.
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Seven, in fact.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: Uh this is the I know, seven, yeah.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: This is the seven blade MT prop.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: And it's uh had an EASA supplemental type certificate approval for the M700.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: Uh and basically uh nice high-tech prop like the M S the MT uh provides um uh enhances uh cabin comfort um and refinement in operation and a responsive flight profile, apparently.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: Whatever one of those is, uh I think basically it boils down to the fact that um you've got decreased um takeoff performance uh decreased takeoff performance.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: Decreased takeoff distance.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: Uh higher climb rate and quieter cabin.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: So um what's the limit on props in?
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: How many can you have?
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: Well, it's funny you should ask this because Piper didn't provide a press photo for this.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: I mean you go, this is exciting, Piper.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: You go, we've got seven blades.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: You go, great, we need to see this.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: No press photo.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: So I had to resort to Chat GPT.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: I said, Chat GPT, give me I gave it the current M700 and I said, give me a Piper M700 with more blades.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: And this is what it came up with.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: Brilliant.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: And I'm going, well, that's to I'm not sure that's seven, but we've ended up with nine.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: And I'm going, well, maybe this gives us an idea of where the future product development of the M700 Fury is going.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: Um I said to call it the furry.
- 17:23SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: So I said, Chat GPT, you know, uh I how about you give me more blades?
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: So we ended up with this.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: And then I said, well, let's not stop here.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: So give me all the blades.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: And then we ended up with ChatGPT was starting to get a bit of a headache at that point.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so there we go.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: So uh stuff going on there.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: Uh so you've seen it here exclusively.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: This is the next few years of the development of the Piper M700 Fury.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Rename it, the Epic Fury.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: I just don't.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Probably not.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: Name taken.
- 17:58SPEAKER_03: Anyway, if you fancy more blades, then talk to your regional Piper dealer.
- 18:02SPEAKER_03: Aaron Ross Powell Well, but maybe it wasn't a Piper thing, maybe it was an MT thing, and that's why Piper haven't done the Yes.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, maybe.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: Maybe you're right.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: I mean I dunno.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: I've seen the the multi-blade MT props are fantastic.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: They there's often one on the MT standard error.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: I'm sure there'll be one this year.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Uh and they are they're a thing to behold.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: Trevor Burrus, Jr.
- 18:23SPEAKER_03: They are.
- 18:23SPEAKER_03: They are and and ultimately I think that's what it comes down to.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: People go, oh, shorter takeoff quiet.
- 18:27SPEAKER_03: It's probably not that much shorter.
- 18:28SPEAKER_03: It's probably not that much quieter.
- 18:30SPEAKER_03: It's probably just it just looks a hell of a lot better.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: But we do we do know that when when it comes to blades on a propeller, you can pilots, it's it's it's bragging rights, isn't it?
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: You've got it spot on.
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: Spot on.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: Right, my story next, talking of bragging rights.
- 18:45SPEAKER_03: So this is uh all about Aura Aero, the French company that are behind the integral two-seat aerobatic trainer, but they're also behind the 19-seat ERA, uh kind of like uh business, business aircraft, uh regional aircraft, European regional aircraft, I guess the ERA stands for in that particular instance and maybe cargo kind of stuff.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: They've uh scored themselves Series B funding of another 50 million, which brings their total up to 340 million so far.
- 19:11SPEAKER_03: They're gonna use that money to further develop the uh 19 C ERA.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: And to finish certifying the S Integral S, because the Integral R Tow Dragon version, which looks gorgeous, lovely looking airplane.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: We may not like the looks of it, but it is a practical proposition in today's market.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: I know, I know.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: Um and and they're going to expand their production facilities as well so they can carry on building.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: But it you know, they've they've raised an awful lot of money and they're they're starting to deliver aircraft.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: You're saying awful lot of money.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: It's still relatively small price.
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but compare compared to some of the the the funding amounts that we hear in in Evitol.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: In EVTO world.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: It's relatively small.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 19:59SPEAKER_03: So anyway, so so well done.
- 20:01SPEAKER_03: Well well done, Aura, for for raising that money.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: Trevor Burrus, Jr.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: They have got a bit quiet on their electric project, haven't they?
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: The integrali E.
- 20:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: My guessing is that they're not getting a huge reception for that.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: Maybe not.
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: I know I they've got two good um two good piston trainers out there.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: I guess having the option for an electric trainer should it should it be a practical thing.
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: That they can always go.
- 20:30SPEAKER_03: Electro had sold last year.
- 20:32SPEAKER_03: And I think we discovered it was one, wasn't it?
- 20:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:35SPEAKER_03: And so maybe maybe Aura Aero looked at it and said, we could look at that big market out.
- 20:39SPEAKER_03: Oh, one.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: Well, we're seeing it in the automotive industry, aren't we?
- 20:43SPEAKER_02: Where lots of people who had big plans for electric development are are cutting back.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: They're all wrong because electric cars are amazing.
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: So it's the driver of an electric car.
- 20:53SPEAKER_03: I'm on my fourth electric car.
- 20:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:55SPEAKER_03: And it's I I genuinely hope never to go back to an internal combustion engine car.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: One day I'll let you have a go in mine.
- 21:06SPEAKER_03: It's okay.
- 21:06SPEAKER_03: I had a I drove a Jag back in 1963 or something.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: Uh last story we got.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: Actually, we didn't attribute this to anyone, so I'll kick it off and you can all talk about it if you like.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: With eight weeks to go, just eight weeks to go, uh, the eBase show that took takes place at Geneva Pal Expo, the one that's full of biz jets and helicopters and stuff like that, got cancelled.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, as shows go, this is the posh show, isn't it?
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: This is the this is posho.
- 21:31SPEAKER_03: If you went to a press conference or a press lunch there, you'd have like three, you'd have like proper China plates and everything.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: It was like super posh.
- 21:37SPEAKER_03: Um but it it's closed and they can't.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: I was really surprised at this.
- 21:40SPEAKER_03: I was I was shocked at it.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: I mean there was a statement that basically said, reading between the lines, he said, you know, the support wasn't there for the show.
- 21:46SPEAKER_03: We've tried to change the format of it a few times.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: Um I I have been to that show and Geneva and Palexpo, where it's held right by the airport.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: It's a very expensive place to go.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: It's fearsomely expensive.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: If you're an A manufacture and you're taking say fifty staff and you've got to put 'em up in a a good Geneva hotel for the best part of a week.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: I mean that's that's fearsome.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: And maybe I I'm I do wonder the buying market for that sort of product now.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: Is there is a show really a practical answer to any of those buying solutions now?
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: If you're gonna buy a bizjet.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: I think if you're if you're interested in a bizjet, you'll probably go to the American show.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Because the American show MBAA, as it's known, is also fearfully expensive.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: It's also fears, but it's not as bad.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: It's not as expensive as Geneva, I can tell you.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:36SPEAKER_03: No, Geneva's a yeah.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: Too many bankers.
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: Be careful there.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 22:43SPEAKER_03: Should we have a little bit of club news?
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: Let's go for club news.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: Come on then.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: April landing fees.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: We've still halfway through to go halfway through.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: Sky, I know you make me do this.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: Sky, Isle of Sky Airfield.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Uh Balladoo! Belladoo.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: Balledo.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: Magister Barton, Audley End.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: And next month, Annabelle's already told me about a landing fee at a place called Causeway in Northern Ireland.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: And it's it's in the month when the famous Northwest 200 uh motorcycle races are held there.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: And that if if you want to go and see a crazy motorcycle race, go and see the Northwest 200.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: Usual fire-free landing thing.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: Basically, it's a triangular circuit, nine miles long altogether, flat out.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: In other news, if you're a club member, and but only if you're a club member, on the 29th of April at 7 pm, which is a Wednesday, you can see the next webinar, members' webinar, which is Nigel Webb talking about flying in and around the Channel Islands.
- 23:43SPEAKER_03: Looking forward to that one.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: But more to the point, you should be a member.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: If you're a member, you get access to everything we write, everything that we do videos on, you get access to the full forum, and you get access to all the benefits like the free landing fees and discounts and all the webinars.
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: We've got a whole stock of webinars there.
- 24:00SPEAKER_03: So come on, please sign up.
- 24:01SPEAKER_03: It's only six pounds per month.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: Flyer.co.uk forward slash membership.
- 24:06SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: You know it makes sense.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: So this week we're talking about Aero because Aero is on next week.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: So first of all, big thanks to that.
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: Big thanks to Cirrus Aircraft, Continental Airspace Technologies, and Lone Mountain Aircraft.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: Thank you very much for supporting our coverage from Aero.
- 24:28SPEAKER_03: It's not quite as expensive as Geneva, but it's not cheap either.
- 24:31SPEAKER_03: So we couldn't really do it without you.
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: So thank you very much.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: And this is, I I think it's fair to say, one of the world's premier general aviation shows, isn't it?
- 24:41SPEAKER_03: I think it I think it's yeah, it's making a bid to be the best.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think, yeah.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: It's close must be the best.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, Oshkosh is a great show, but it's more of an event than a trade show or something.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: I think it's fair to say Aero is is an amazing show.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: Uh runs from April 22nd to the 25th.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: And all the organizers there are talking about the fact that it's they've got a new exhibitor record.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, because they're saying they've got over 820 exhibitors from 50 nations.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: That's amazing.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: They've probably got a few more when eBay's got cancelled.
- 25:12SPEAKER_02: Maybe so, yeah.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: Because uh because um because outside Iero's all about um two big show two big sets of show halls.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: Um outside uh there's a display area and new from last year was a big um the big dome of glass that the the the dome of general of of business jet aviation.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: So I wasn't such a big fan of that.
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: Um I think all the good stuff goes on in the halls.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: Uh and certainly looking at the exhibit plan this this year, there's a lot.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: If you've been there a few times maybe and you've become familiar with it, I think you might be surprised this year.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: There's a few changes.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: No, I think it might be a lot of people.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: But um uh looking around, there's people in different places.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: I think that's always nice, uh, switches things up a little bit.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: So um yeah, so be sure to have a good hunt around.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: So what are we hunting around for?
- 26:01SPEAKER_03: Well, I reckon I mean obviously the most the the the headline stuff is gonna be new types, isn't it?
- 26:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:06SPEAKER_03: And I think there's gonna be a few new types.
- 26:08SPEAKER_03: And we always get surprised.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: We know there's gonna be a few types.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we always get surprised, don't we?
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: Because there's usually things that we're expecting.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: Um so I think new ty the we definitely know there's gonna be a new Cirrus uh Cirrus Vision Jet there.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: G three.
- 26:21SPEAKER_03: Um but there's probably going to be an offer to fly that up.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: But I just couldn't make the the timing of the schedule work.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: So I I I'm gonna do it, but hopefully probably a bit later early in May sometime.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: But it was like, you know, if you where's a good place to pick you up on Sunday and we could take you to Friedrichshaven.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: That would be like you go, I need to be there before then.
- 26:43SPEAKER_03: But I just couldn't make it work, unfortunately.
- 26:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:45SPEAKER_03: Oh well.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: But anyway, so it's new so much.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: Um I wonder if there's gonna be a Piper Fury.
- 26:51SPEAKER_02: I I would love for there to be a seven-bladed Piper M700 Fury.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: Um that would be great.
- 27:00SPEAKER_03: Um I'd be surprised.
- 27:01SPEAKER_03: I'd be surprised as well.
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: Um we are because we got a press release about this yesterday and we haven't seen it yet, but the Skyleader 600, which in the UK is now approved by the BMAA, by the way, it's got its TADS and stuff.
- 27:16SPEAKER_03: But there's gonna be the launch of a a new not a new I guess there's a new version of it, the 600 GT.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: GT.
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: What does GT bring?
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: GT brings well you'll have to wait and see.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: Uh the question is though so if GTA So it's gonna be revealed every day by Ashock at eleven.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: If GT brings differences, uh what does that what implications does that have for the UK market?
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: Because obviously the 600 uh the the the approval is usually quite specific for 600.
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: So does that mean we'll get the it's like here's the new GT model, but that's gonna be another approval?
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 27:52SPEAKER_03: We'll we'll have to find out whether I mean it will have to be another approval, but whether it's it depends how radical the change is, doesn't it?
- 27:57SPEAKER_03: It is, yeah.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: I that aeroplane I of the Sky Leader aeroplanes possibly it's the slightly less attractive of the two, I would say.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: But um it's it's aimed at a diff a slightly different niche.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: It might it it might not look quite as good as the 400 to to some.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: I think the paint scheme makes a big difference to that, but it is undoubtedly going to be it is a wider cockpit.
- 28:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:19SPEAKER_03: It's got a retractable gear version.
- 28:21SPEAKER_03: I don't think the performance is gonna be huge.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: I think Ashros is marketing this as the biggest 600 kg type cocktail cockpit.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: Cockpit.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: So I mean that'll be it'll be worth seeing.
- 28:31SPEAKER_03: It's always good when there's a new airplane like that.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: I there was there was hints being dropped from some people that I met from Elixir a little while ago that there's gonna be uh another model, whether it's an entirely different model or a development of the existing model, which I suspect.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Because they've got some they they've talked about some exciting stuff going on, things like a turbine-powered Elixir.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: I suspect this is probably gonna be a market-focused trainer development, isn't it?
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: Not not not exciting, you know, different power plants.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: It's probably gonna be exciting.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: You know, not not not kind of you know, burn your hair off kind of.
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: I guess I'll guess we'll find out.
- 29:11SPEAKER_03: Talking of what stuff that will be burn your hair off, there's a couple of twins coming, aren't there?
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's the Alpi Pioneer 800, which is the twin version of the Pioneer 400.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:22SPEAKER_03: Um how they got to the name Pioneer 800, I don't know.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: Multiplied 400 by two, I think.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: Um But that's I mean that's uh so that's a twin.
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: Uh we did see a version of that which was gonna be powered by the 912 IS uh back in 2022, I think it was.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: Um uh but they're saying this one's gonna be two 916 ISs.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: Um and that's gonna be a real that's gonna be a bit of a hot ship, I feel.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: It will be, won't it?
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: Because they're pokey engines then.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:53SPEAKER_03: So um yeah, looking forward to seeing that.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: It will be good.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: And then sticking with the twin theme, we've got the um the 86.
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: The 86, which we talked about um on the show last week.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: I th I've we don't know for sure this is coming, but I'm kind of hoping usually when people when people make a big fuss and go, we've flown it, you go, oh, hopefully this will make an appearance.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: And I do think this is genuinely quite an interesting looking machine.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: Tri-surface.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: So um yeah, I'd I would be very excited if this makes it along.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: So yeah, it would be definitely be one to look at.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: Um and then of course there's the TurboShark.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: TurboShock.
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: Do do do do do boshock do do do.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: I kinda I kind of miss this part of my development.
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: Were you not in on the bigger?
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: So so well, besides the doo-doo-doo-doo-doos, um, what's the big difference?
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: What's the big news about TurboShark?
- 30:49SPEAKER_03: Well, I wonder if it could be because it's gonna have a turbocharged engine.
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, which um yes, but I think was in the name of it.
- 30:57SPEAKER_02: We did know though, because everyone goes, oh, TurboShark or Turbo something, it's gonna be a 916IS.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: But actually, I think we know that the 916 power plant doesn't fit in a shark, does it?
- 31:09SPEAKER_03: It's No, I don't think even the 912 IS fits in a shark.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: It's a very, very well The Shark nose is a very small profile.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: We've done a great job in terms of drag reduction.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: Um but that does mean that actually some of the bigger RoTAX engines don't fit.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: So I I believe this is going to be a um oh who were the people from Norway?
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: Um Edge performance Engine performance.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: This is uh this is Shark Meet Edge Performance Turbo, isn't it?
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: I love some of their engines, edge performance.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: They just the work on them has just looked amazing.
- 31:40SPEAKER_03: Really good.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so yeah, looking forward to seeing uh Turbo Shark.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: Do do do do one more song.
- 31:49SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, um that's that's kind of what I make.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: What about the Groppo?
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: Oh, uh so we will.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: Uh so last year you probably remember we saw the uh Gruppo Enduro, which was the tail of the tailwheel version of the G70.
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: By far my favourite aeroplane of the show.
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: I think by far many people's favourite airplane of the show, that was Rotex 912 IS powered.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: Um there is a version now with the 916 IS flying, so I am really hopeful that we get to see the 916 ISIL.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: Did you see Trent Palmer's recent video?
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so he's got his condition inspection, they call it instead of an annual one and the other.
- 32:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's got his Legend Nomad.
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: Um and uh yeah, that's been flying for a year.
- 32:32SPEAKER_02: And um yeah, that's uh had some pretty um pretty crispy hoses.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because he's got a 916 in it.
- 32:38SPEAKER_03: And the 916 apparently un understandably puts a whole load of heat and some of the some of the pipes and stuff in it.
- 32:46SPEAKER_03: He's done something stupid not stupid, he's done a large amount of hours, like 300 or something else.
- 32:51SPEAKER_03: He's got a lot of things.
- 32:52SPEAKER_03: It was over an hour a day on average, so over three hundred and sixty-five hours in a year, which is huge.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: Um and they were that's put a lot of heat into the hoses, and they've all got a bit some of them got a bit brittle and they were either brittle and would be an understatement, because um some of those that they showed on film, they literally went crack, and the the whole hose just broke.
- 33:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:11SPEAKER_02: So anyway, uh so the legend had sent someone out to um to uh do a hose swap.
- 33:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: So but yeah, no, that was fascinating to see.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: It was, wasn't it?
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: And I was kind of going, well, there's a lot of 916s around.
- 33:22SPEAKER_03: I wonder how much heat we're gonna get in some of those tightly cowled.
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: Uh you know, I think um what we saw it with RoTAX 915, and I'm sure and I think people learned from that with the 916 that actually the packaging issue isn't necessarily the size, it's how you cool it.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: So you know, with lots of people doing it, there's a lot of knowledge out there.
- 33:43SPEAKER_03: So yeah.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: Dave, what are you looking forward to?
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: What am I looking forward to?
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm I've kind of curry first.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: The curry first.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: No, there's an hydrogen and electric summit.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: Now I know some people will start yawning at this, the idea of sustainable aviation, but yeah, it one day it's gonna come along because we we can't keep burning hydrocarbons, apparently.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: Um so this electric summit, it's over two days at Aero.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Uh it's gonna be talking about advances in batteries, and at the moment that's pretty important because that's the route that most people are taking.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Pippel Pippestroll with the uh Piperstroll with the Venice Electro, which is still the only certified electric aircraft.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: Um and the new Bristol B-23 Energic, um, they're going to be relying on batteries.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: The B-23, the B Bristol um is going to be using the Safran uh engine, which is uh motor, sorry, motor.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: Which is uh a certified motor.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: So that's um so because I was a little bit confused because I I kind of I'd always felt that they had their own kind of end-to-end package with motor and battery, but this is uh Well the reason I think is is that the uh the Safran motor calls it engine US.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: Um Ingenious?
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: Ingenious, yes.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, I just did there.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: That's type certified by by uh EASA.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: So that really helps.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: That really helps the whole thing.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: So but it will be using H-55, this is the Swiss company.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: Uh it will be using the rest of their architecture.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: So the battery system, which is quite extraordinary when you look at the And the inverters and the controls.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: And the inverters.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: So saffron engine motor at the front, followed by H-55 at the back, and the whole package is put together by Bristol.
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I I I have to say that is the electric trainer that I'm excited.
- 35:36SPEAKER_02: I know we've been s we've seen it for a few years at Aero, but I I'm always intrigued to see what we're doing.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: Remember that press conference where we all trekked over to the back of the like the z Zeppelin hangar and went went outside to watch them roll.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: To watch them start, yeah, and go zzz it's a it would be a bit like yeah, there was at least some nice coffee and cakes.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:55SPEAKER_02: Was that?
- 35:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: And I yeah, I I can't I they don't forget last year they did the big American demonstration tour, they flew the air flew the aircraft across the US.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: Um I think we're just waiting to see that aeroplane get certified and and make it to market now.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: Well I think the uh Safram motor is is is the key there.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: It's the key there, so that they can 'cause the airframe is is an own airframe.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: And the battery system is now approved.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: So now the engines uh the motor is improved, is is included to certain.
- 36:26SPEAKER_02: I've got to say, the you know, Bristel, from their home-built routes, they're a bit of a titan now, really, aren't they?
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, they're trying.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: So anyway.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: I haven't mentioned hydrogen yet.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: Oh hydrogen fuel cell is also.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: Because it's all escape.
- 36:41SPEAKER_04: Because it's all escaped, yeah.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Well, quite a few people think that's the route for aviation, particularly on the bigger aircraft, because batteries are very heavy and still quite limited in their output.
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: Um, so hydrogen fuel cells are seen as kind of like the way forward for bigger aircraft.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: And there's one project in particular which is going to be, which will be at Aero, and that's beyond Aero, as it's known.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: It's a French French company.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: They're they are they're developing an eight-seat business aircraft.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: I think they're doing that because that's that's a doable project rather than going right into an airliner type project.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: Um and it's they're basically redesigning a standard airframe, what they call a CS23, so it's a certified airframe.
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: Um, and they're concentrating on things like installing the hydrogen, hydrogen electric fuel cell technology, and also how you contain that that uh because that is the challenge.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: Hydrogen is pretty tricky stuff to contain.
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: I'm not a chemist, but they're like really small molecules.
- 37:43SPEAKER_03: They've just like seep out of everything, don't they?
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: It's the smallest molecule.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: You can't keep them in a paper bag.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: It's the smallest molecule, but every time I see a hydrogen tank, hydrogen tanks are quite big.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Well, that's if you keep it in um gas form.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: If you if you cheap it chill it, make it into a liquid, it takes up less space.
- 38:02SPEAKER_02: I but d that sounds like chilling hydrogen might be getting I that sounds like quite a complex handling challenge.
- 38:10SPEAKER_01: Well, it d which is why Beyond Aero are taking that route.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: They're gonna put it in wing t wingtip tanks.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: Partly for ease of refueling, but also to and also because you probably don't want hydrogen in the anywhere near the cockpit.
- 38:24SPEAKER_03: Did you know that the I think it was T B twenty, or maybe it was T B ten or T B nine or something.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: They had an experimental aircraft ages and ages ago during the uh the previous fuel crisis.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: Maybe we're gonna get another one before too long, where they experimented on running that on LPG.
- 38:39SPEAKER_03: I didn't know that.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: And that that that had sort of pressurized well not pressurized tip tanks that could be pressurized because of the LPG in them.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's certainly at Aero we've seen a lot of uh university projects.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: There's I think there's one to power a sling at the moment, which is hydrogen that I think that's hydrogen fuel cell powered.
- 39:00SPEAKER_02: Um so you do see a there's if if you're gonna see cutting edge stuff like this, Aero's the place to see it.
- 39:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:07SPEAKER_03: Unfortunately the success rate of all of those projects is really, really low.
- 39:11SPEAKER_03: Those that make it through to to market.
- 39:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I I guess it has to have people have to be doing it for us to hit on the fifty the Beyond Aero have got fifty million euro in investment so far.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: So some people believe in it.
- 39:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 39:27SPEAKER_03: Good.
- 39:28SPEAKER_03: Well, we'll keep you posted.
- 39:29SPEAKER_03: Uh once again, thank you very much to Cirrus, to Continental Aerospace Technologies and to Lone Mountain for supporting our coverage.
- 39:35SPEAKER_03: Uh keep an eye out.
- 39:36SPEAKER_03: We'll have a bunch of stuff coming out um on the social media from the show.
- 39:40SPEAKER_03: We'll be doing obviously our couple of videos.
- 39:42SPEAKER_03: We'll be doing a live stream, yeah, which will be instant, not a pre-record, but a live live stream from someone's hoop from whoever's hotel room has got the best internet.
- 39:52SPEAKER_02: And if you see us at the show, please do stop us and say hello, because we love to see fly clubs.
- 39:57SPEAKER_03: Reminds me, we should take a handful of lanyards in case we need to give those away.
- 40:00SPEAKER_03: Henry, add that to your packing list.
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, absolutely good.
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: Good, good, good.
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: Well, I look forward to that.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: I can't wait to go.
- 40:08SPEAKER_03: It's one of my favourite events of the year.
- 40:09SPEAKER_03: Come back recharged.
- 40:11SPEAKER_03: Yes, fantastic.
- 40:12SPEAKER_03: Looking forward to it.
- 40:16SPEAKER_02: So uh it's time for what caught your eye this week, and I'm gonna go to Dave first.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, right, crocky, I wasn't.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: Surprise.
- 40:25SPEAKER_01: I'm last on the list.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: Anyway, what caught me is the it's the 80th anniversary.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: What caught my eye was it's the 80th anniversary of the chipmunk in May, and there's a whole lot of things going on.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: Um, so the big thing is going to be what's called an international gathering of De Havilland Chipmunks.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: That's going to be on the 22nd of May uh at Wolverhampton Hofpenny, Happenney Green Airport.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: Uh been put together by the De Havilland Chipmunk Appreciation Society.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: That's a bit of a mouthful, isn't it?
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: Apparently they've got 70 chipmunks booked in already.
- 40:58SPEAKER_01: Fantastic.
- 40:59SPEAKER_01: Although it's on the 22nd of May, it's a bank holiday weekend, so it's going to be pretty much going on over the whole.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: Can you just imagine all of the oil bits everywhere on the heart?
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: Oh, actually, I do love a chipmunk.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: It's great.
- 41:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think they're great as well.
- 41:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: But there's also other events going on.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: There's at Duxford uh on the 9th of May, which is one of their flying days.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: They're going to be celebrating 80 years of the of the they don't they don't call it the chipmunk, they call it the DHC One, which is its proper nomenclature.
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: Well that's that's very proper, isn't it?
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: Very proper, yes.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: Shuttleworth are going to have an event on the 30th of May, um at their Wings and Wheels air show.
- 41:37SPEAKER_01: Four chipmunks, uh including one from their own collection, as well as the very same chipmunk that uh a young King Charles III.
- 41:45SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 41:46SPEAKER_02: That's the all-red one, isn't it?
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: That's the all-red one.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: Learnt to fly in uh 1969 in this particular aircraft.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: Um and a bit later in the year at Compton Abbas, they're gonna have a De Havilland anniversary flying on the 16th, 15th and 16th of August.
- 42:00SPEAKER_02: So get your fill of chipmunks.
- 42:02SPEAKER_03: Do you know how many chipmunks are built, roughly speaking?
- 42:05unknown: No.
- 42:06SPEAKER_03: Good question.
- 42:08SPEAKER_02: Do we know?
- 42:10SPEAKER_03: I think I something in my head telling me it was about thirteen hundred, but I can't.
- 42:14SPEAKER_03: I I wouldn't that seem surprisingly few.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:17SPEAKER_03: But there's probably a whole load of people out there going, Oh god, you can't even know that.
- 42:20SPEAKER_03: I don't know how many chips are many chipmons built.
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: Tell us.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: I think it was about well, in something in my mind going about 1300.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, I should imagine Carrot Sala is screaming at the screen right now.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: Curiously typing.
- 42:33SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 42:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, anyway, good.
- 42:36SPEAKER_03: Who's next?
- 42:36SPEAKER_03: Fantastic.
- 42:37SPEAKER_03: You.
- 42:37SPEAKER_03: Me?
- 42:38SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 42:38SPEAKER_03: Okay, I want I want you to listen to this before I get there, because this is this is serious.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: Let's call my this is a statement from from uh chap who's involved in this.
- 42:47SPEAKER_03: Some design for elegance but find they must sacrifice cabin size.
- 42:51SPEAKER_03: Others design for roominess only to sacrifice speed.
- 42:54SPEAKER_03: Many designers strive for a faster plane but lose simplicity.
- 42:57SPEAKER_03: I wish they hadn't said plane, because that's uh great a little bit.
- 43:00SPEAKER_03: I know, but that's that's it's a quote.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: So lose simplicity.
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: And those who design for simplicity often lack elegance.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: Bear that in mind.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: In seeking to meet a certain need, a designer may find themselves with a plane that is adequate but not excellent.
- 43:13SPEAKER_03: The answer is Envoy, a perfect blend of elegance, roominess, speed, and simplicity.
- 43:19SPEAKER_03: This turboprop aircraft meets the many needs of demanding pilots, all at a reasonable price.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: Now, this caught my eye because I think you'll agree when you see it on screen, the Serea Aviation Envoy is a little bit challenged in its looks.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: At least to me.
- 43:40SPEAKER_03: It's kind of if if you're if you're listening to the podcast version, it's kind of a little bit squashed, it's long, it's elongated, it's sitting on quite spindy looking fixed gear.
- 43:51SPEAKER_02: I would say if TMU made a TBM seven hundred, this would be it.
- 43:56SPEAKER_03: That would be one way of looking at this one's got the water engine in it.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: Waterstroke Honeywell.
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: This is remind so this I don't think this is a new thing.
- 44:03SPEAKER_02: This is from a while ago.
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: Is this a blast from the past?
- 44:07SPEAKER_03: A little bit, yeah.
- 44:08SPEAKER_03: It caught my eye because it was a blast from the past.
- 44:10SPEAKER_03: It was designed by a guy called Rink Ayers.
- 44:12SPEAKER_03: Ayers being, you know, the the company name from came from spelling Ayers backwards, which is why it's Sreya.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay, right.
- 44:21SPEAKER_03: Um it was exhibited at Oshkrosh in 2007.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: There were kind of three prototypes built, uh, of which one survives that was registered um November 3176, Sierra.
- 44:31SPEAKER_02: And I've have I seen that because I I've got a feeling I've I've seen a picture of said aeroplane covered in kind of Yeah, it's not looking a bit mouldy on a ramp somewhere.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, if you well, the pictures that I've seen don't look too mouldy, and that's a ramp at Santa Maria Airport in California, California.
- 44:49SPEAKER_03: But all three of the tyres need air at the bottom because they're all flat.
- 44:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:53SPEAKER_03: Um it never no one's there's a bit of a discussion about whether it actually ever flew.
- 44:59SPEAKER_03: No one's no one I'm gonna I'm gonna say no.
- 45:03SPEAKER_03: No, that's what most people are saying no.
- 45:04SPEAKER_03: It may or may not have done at some point, but no one really knows about it.
- 45:09SPEAKER_02: If it looks right, it'll fly right.
- 45:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 45:12SPEAKER_02: I've got questions.
- 45:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:14SPEAKER_03: I mean it in it was supposed to take six people, flight two hundred and fifty miles an hour.
- 45:18SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 45:18SPEAKER_03: Um it's always slightly whether it's a few.
- 45:20SPEAKER_03: Do all these things at the same time, maybe?
- 45:22SPEAKER_03: Yes, actually it was true.
- 45:23SPEAKER_03: Six seat turboprop, uh, six people, two hundred and fifty miles an hour, thirteen hundred nautical, thirteen hundred mile range, not nautical miles, and two hundred pounds of luggage, um, all at the same time.
- 45:35SPEAKER_03: Although it never flew, so we we don't know.
- 45:38SPEAKER_03: The truth is it never made it.
- 45:39SPEAKER_03: I mean, the reason it caught my eye, it was because, you know, the clearly the person behind it was just super passionate and put you you can't build those three prototypes and buy a turboprop engine and put it in and exhibit at Oshkosh without investing huge amounts of money, time, energy, love, emotional resource, whatever it is, into the whole thing just to bring you know, it was someone's baby, and aviation is just peppered with those things, and occasionally one of them gets over the line, but most of them don't really get over the line, or at least don't get very far over the aviation.
- 46:12SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say this is this is a a thing that we've seen a lot of in aviation, isn't it?
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: Is that that you get lots of passion projects and there they are there are things where you look at it and you go, I'm not so sure.
- 46:25SPEAKER_03: I'm not quite as passionate about it.
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 46:27SPEAKER_03: But I this is a kind of salute to that that drive, that passion, that that single-mindedness that it takes to bring things back home and to get them over the line.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and to be fair, we've seen we've seen a lot of successes where people have gone they've had that single vision of going, I believe in this and I'm gonna make it happen.
- 46:45SPEAKER_02: And it takes a big fortune to make a smaller one.
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: Make a smaller fortune.
- 46:50SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 46:50SPEAKER_02: Um but it it has happened and we've seen airplanes because of that.
- 46:54SPEAKER_02: But um yes, this lost in the sands of time, I feel.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: So I believe it's it's it's somewhere in Santa Maria Airport.
- 47:04SPEAKER_03: I don't know who actually owns that one, if anyone someone might just be waiting for the call.
- 47:09SPEAKER_03: Well, I mean the website's the website's still up.
- 47:11SPEAKER_03: Amazingly, yeah.
- 47:13SPEAKER_03: Um I mean if you you know, if you wanted uh if you wanted a project.
- 47:18SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 47:19SPEAKER_03: I fear that this would be a large one.
- 47:21SPEAKER_02: Internet rabbit hole for some of you coming up.
- 47:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: Interesting.
- 47:24SPEAKER_02: Anyway, that was that was that caught my eye.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: Which just leaves me.
- 47:27SPEAKER_02: It does.
- 47:28SPEAKER_02: So um uh have you ever heard of the Avro Arrow?
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: No, well, the Avro Arrow was a Delta winged jet bomber.
- 47:37SPEAKER_02: Um it was in it was Canada's Canada's answer to the TSR2, which I'm sure you've heard of.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: Um this was a really fantastic looking um looking uh machine.
- 47:46SPEAKER_02: Oh wow.
- 47:47SPEAKER_02: Um it was amazing, but it was a bit like a lightning fusel article.
- 47:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but this thing is massive.
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: Um and uh anyway, it was controversial just like TSR2 because it was cancelled by the government in 1959.
- 47:59SPEAKER_02: Lots of conspiracy theories about that.
- 48:01SPEAKER_02: But you would think this is an unlikely basis for a flying replica.
- 48:05SPEAKER_02: Um but there's a group in Canada that have gone, you know, we're going to do this.
- 48:10SPEAKER_02: Uh but they're going to do it at 60% scale.
- 48:13SPEAKER_02: And they've been working on this for 25 years.
- 48:16SPEAKER_02: And um uh there's so they've come up they've come up with the uh come up with their 60% scale replica in composites, and you go, this is incredible.
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: It's being done by the Avro Museum in uh of in Canada.
- 48:30SPEAKER_02: Um and yeah, they've been working on this for a heck of a long time.
- 48:34SPEAKER_02: Uh re- in 2019 they bought a Learjet to use um the two GE GE CJ610 engines for it and some other parts.
- 48:43SPEAKER_02: And um this has kind of become it's it's got a bit more um relevance in the news because they're saying that they're aiming to roll it out in 2027, uh autumn 2027, with the goal of can uh cut that coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the Avro Arrows rollout.
- 49:01SPEAKER_02: Um and then the following rollout, they're gonna do a bunch of testing and then fly it.
- 49:05SPEAKER_02: And I think this is an amazing thing.
- 49:08SPEAKER_03: So this just goes to show that it's a bit like your not not mine, it's a bit like it's a bit like those what's the word?
- 49:17SPEAKER_03: I want I'm looking for a word that describes people who take on an unlikely project and spend a whole load of time doing it like that isn't nutter.
- 49:26SPEAKER_03: Um but persistence?
- 49:29SPEAKER_02: It's it's like it's be it's beyond persistence.
- 49:32SPEAKER_03: So so you're Dutch people who put that.
- 49:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:36SPEAKER_02: It's like your helpman that you have to help with.
- 49:39SPEAKER_02: That's that's like a different end of the scale.
- 49:41SPEAKER_02: But it's a scale.
- 49:43SPEAKER_03: There's a lot of there's a lot of similarities in the projects there.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: Excuse me.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:48SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I know I was uh I think one day someone will do it with a fly Europa.
- 49:52SPEAKER_03: Oh gosh.
- 49:53SPEAKER_02: I I'm always amazed when I stumble across projects like this because they are they're just more like Jaguar from this, actually.
- 50:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm bearing in mind.
- 50:01SPEAKER_02: I d 60% scale.
- 50:03SPEAKER_02: So it it is a quite a lot smaller, but I it's the arrow was a a beautiful thing.
- 50:08SPEAKER_02: So I can't wait to see.
- 50:09SPEAKER_02: I'm just the whole idea of going, let's make a let's make a home-built jet with two jets is I but making a replica.
- 50:16SPEAKER_03: I mean the same the same applies to a Vulcan to the sky, really.
- 50:19SPEAKER_03: That was I mean the whole project.
- 50:21SPEAKER_03: Let's take a Vulcan and fly it again and then do the fly the display circuit.
- 50:26SPEAKER_03: That was like you must be mad.
- 50:27SPEAKER_02: Maybe we need a we could have a flyer project to make a 60% scale Vulcan.
- 50:32SPEAKER_03: I think we should have a 60% magazine.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: 60% magazine, yes.
- 50:36SPEAKER_01: So did the did the original Avro Arrow fly?
- 50:40SPEAKER_02: It did, yes.
- 50:41SPEAKER_02: Just like TSR2, it flew, and everyone was like, This is an amazing aeroplane.
- 50:45SPEAKER_02: And I I it depends what you read, but it was it's almost like there was pressure from various other sources going, what this is an amazing aeroplane, but this is going to compete with these things.
- 50:56SPEAKER_02: And um a bit like TSR2, the the project was cancelled overnight.
- 51:01SPEAKER_02: And um and everything involved in the production of the aeroplanes, the air I think there were three or four prototypes, all the tools and jigs all destroyed.
- 51:09SPEAKER_03: So they did that for the SR seventy one as well.
- 51:12SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, but at least they made lots of those.
- 51:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well not that many, but whole bunch of them.
- 51:17SPEAKER_03: But then to destroy the tools and jigs, we were like, what are you thinking?
- 51:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but this, you know, this was something that was yeah, this was something that was had so much promise.
- 51:28SPEAKER_02: So but yeah, didn't happen.
- 51:30SPEAKER_02: But I look forward to seeing a home built replica of this, and if they ever get it flying, then I think that's definitely a can a candidate to see at Oshkosh.
- 51:37SPEAKER_01: Now, from that angle, it does actually look very good.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: Really amazing.
- 51:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:42SPEAKER_03: Dave, are there any events?
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: Events.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: Right, co.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: So this Saturday, there's Pilot's Cruise Live at London.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: There's also there's three other flyings on this weekend this Saturday.
- 51:50SPEAKER_01: There's uh Colonel Pasty flying in at Bobby.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: Sure, that's not the pasty flying.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: The Pasty flying at Bobin.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: There's two vintage aircraft uh flying both on Saturday.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: There's the vintage aircraft club flying at Wiccanby, and there's a vintage piper flying at Slate.
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: But a competition there will be a few.
- 52:10SPEAKER_03: You could probably do both, can't you?
- 52:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: You could maybe.
- 52:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, as long as you haven't got like a cub.
- 52:16SPEAKER_02: I jump out.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: Funnily enough, if you're going to the vintage Piper flying, you might have one of those.
- 52:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but you might have a Comanche 400 as well, quite possibly.
- 52:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:25SPEAKER_03: In which case you could definitely do both.
- 52:26SPEAKER_01: I think I would probably try to range them Saturday and Sunday rather than anyway.
- 52:31SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 52:32SPEAKER_03: Jolly good.
- 52:32SPEAKER_03: And of course, next week is Aero.
- 52:34SPEAKER_03: So check back, keep looking at everything for Aero, keep looking at the website.
- 52:37SPEAKER_03: I'm sure we'll have a round-the-horse feature which will grow as the week goes on.
- 52:40SPEAKER_03: So thank you very much for that.
- 52:42SPEAKER_03: Thank you again very much to Sky Demon.
- 52:44SPEAKER_03: Thank you to uh Sirius Aircraft, Continental Air Space Technologies and Lone Mountain Aircraft for supporting our aero coverage.
