- 2:04Thanks for having us man. And I just want to let everybody

- 2:09It's called Bust and it's coming soon.

- 2:15So if you want to go to the to see the first screening, go meet
- 2:18Greg, go meet Mr. Richie. Ladies and gentlemen, go get
- 2:22your tickets. We might go myself.
- 2:24I mean, I'll be all over the place.
- 2:26I don't know. Anyways, we're very happy to
- 2:28have you guys on it. And Richie, I want to go in with
- 2:30this this conversation with you because how did this come about?
- 2:34I mean, obviously, you know, Greg and the back end of his
- 2:39background. I mean, this guy was going to be
- 2:41one of the greatest centers in NBA history.
- 2:44He was drafted in front of Kevin Durant and then obviously his
- 2:48injury problems. How did this come about?
- 2:52Yeah, that's a great question. I think I have to clarify
- 2:56because I think a lot of people think it's a Greg Oden.
- 2:59I know something like that. I know, but it's not man.
- 3:02It's a, it's a film that is essentially inspired by my
- 3:06playing days. I played growing up and I did a
- 3:10partial walk on a year in college and I was it, you know,
- 3:13that was the end of my, my career.
- 3:16And you know, my, my aspirations were always to play high level
- 3:20college, you know, maybe play overseas or something like that.
- 3:23But, you know, take it, take it as far as I could, because, you
- 3:25know, the game of basketball was my first love and that wasn't
- 3:28the case. And, and I, and I'd always felt,
- 3:31you know, to myself, to the people that believed in me.
- 3:33I mean, my mom, she used to drive 2 hours every day to drive
- 3:37me to school because I went to this private school in the DC
- 3:40area to play ball. And you know the sacrifices that
- 3:43she made, you know, the people around you make a lot of
- 3:45sacrifices when you have a dream.
- 3:47So not only did I feel like I let myself down, I felt like I
- 3:50let down people who love me, who believed in me.
- 3:53And so even though a bust is something you think of with
- 3:57someone like super high expectations, I lost someone
- 4:00like a Greg or somebody like Anthony Bennett.
- 4:03I I personally felt that that I was one, but I was, and when I
- 4:07was writing the movie, I'm like, you know, I always knew I was
- 4:10going to make a movie about basketball and just kind of
- 4:12close that chapter for, for the thing that I loved before
- 4:15filmmaking. I felt like I was kind of being
- 4:19a little disingenuous because I'm like, you know, I feel like
- 4:21this, but I don't actually have to live my life with the
- 4:24perception of being called a bust.
- 4:27And well, I'm sure we'll get to Greg.
- 4:29I think most of us who have followed Greg's career know that
- 4:32when he was on the court, he actually did live up to
- 4:34expectations. So that label is unfair.
- 4:37But I know that what he's, I know that that term is something
- 4:40that he still has to grapple with the same way anybody who
- 4:45gets the bus label placed on them, whether it be via not
- 4:48performing or via injuries or whatever the case may be, right.
- 4:52So when I was writing a movie, I thought I need to include real
- 4:56life characters who can really relate to this to kind of bring
- 4:58the whole thing in. And without giving away too
- 5:01much, I'd actually written several characters and it was
- 5:04going to be like, kind of like this come to Jesus moment where
- 5:07they all kind of come together and say, you know, talk about
- 5:10what that experience is like. And they, they kind of like are
- 5:13there for each other, almost like an, a, a group in a sense.
- 5:17But you know, nobody, nobody responded and a lot of people
- 5:20didn't want to join except for Greg.
- 5:23You know, I, I code emailed him to, you know, to make a Long
- 5:26story short, I, I, I messaged him via code e-mail.
- 5:29I think he was coaching at Butler at the time.
- 5:31And he was really receptive. He responded within like a day
- 5:34or two and we spoke with some people from his team and just
- 5:38talked about what I was trying to do.
- 5:39I think, you know, they wanted to really make sure that it was
- 5:41the right thing for Greg. And I'll let Greg speak about
- 5:43his experience, but from what from what I recall, they just
- 5:46wanted to make sure it aligned with where he was trying to go
- 5:48in his life right now. And I think he saw that I had
- 5:51the right intentions with the movie.
- 5:52Otherwise, I don't believe he would have done the movie.
- 5:54So that's how we got together. And he's been, you know, the
- 5:57best executive producer and partner.
- 5:59Because, you know, as much as I believe in the story, I think
- 6:01when people see that Greg's a part of it, it gives it another.
- 6:05It's another stamp of validity. Like, OK, you've got someone who
- 6:08really went through this experience and they know that
- 6:10we're trying to tell a story to, you know, to, I think speak to
- 6:16that experience that so few people can relate to, but it's,
- 6:20it's, um, but it's important, you know, the same way Le Bron
- 6:23and all the goats are important. On the flip side of that, you
- 6:26know, what we call busts, they're important.
- 6:28They're just as important to me. And so, you know, we wanted to
- 6:31just make a sports story true to the stories that we grew up on,
- 6:35but kind of bring it home today and and, you know, make it
- 6:38personal for me, but also make it broad enough that anybody can
- 6:41kind of see themselves in that story.
- 6:42First of all, I I don't like the word bust.
- 6:45All right, I don't like it. I I think it's disrespectful
- 6:48because if you're a first round pick and you're a number one
- 6:51pick, you're not a bust as far as I'm concerned.
- 6:53He Greg Odin, if you look at his background, he just had a lot of
- 6:57injuries and when he came into the NBA, he was a lot of people
- 7:01thought this guy was going to be explosive.
- 7:03As a matter of fact, if you look at the people that he was
- 7:05compared to Shaquille O'Neal and David Robinson, two guys that
- 7:10are Hall of Farmers superstar players, his ability played for
- 7:13the Buckeyes. I watched him.
- 7:15I, I thought this guy was going to be an absolute slam dunk.
- 7:19And, and Kevin Durant, everybody was saying Kevin or Greg.
- 7:22I said Greg Odin. I was a kid and I said Greg
- 7:25Odin, I'm going after the bigs because at the time bigs were
- 7:28more important than the, the big, the big, big, you know,
- 7:31long shooter. I would, I would have went with
- 7:33the big man. And it's crazy because we have a
- 7:36guy in Quinton Coppols who was a first round draft pick.
- 7:39He was, he was a Jet. The Jets moved up to get him in
- 7:42the first round. And everybody in there knows the
- 7:44background. The Jets always screw up
- 7:45players, always screw up players.
- 7:47I, I, I, it's so crazy because I talk to a lot of people and
- 7:50people watch our show and they're like, you're working
- 7:52with Quinton Coppols. Oh, he's a bust.
- 7:54It's like a bust. What makes him a bust?
- 7:57He played in the NFL for over 5 years.
- 7:59He made a lot of money and he was one of the greatest pass
- 8:02rushers to come out of North Carolina.
- 8:04And you're talking about, I don't know, Lawrence Taylor,
- 8:08Julius Peppers, I mean, as a pretty good players and he was
- 8:12just as good as any one of those guys coming out of North
- 8:14Carolina. So I don't like the word bust,
- 8:16but Greg, I've always looked up to a person like you because
- 8:20you've taken a lot of abuse, a lot of abuse in the past.
- 8:24Everybody speaks, you know, poorly about you because they
- 8:26say, oh, what did he do? What did he do in the NBA?
- 8:29And here's what I would say. It doesn't matter what you did
- 8:31or what you didn't do in the NBA.
- 8:33It's how you got to the NBA. And why don't you tell your
- 8:36journey to the NBA and, and, and why you believe that in your
- 8:42career and what you've done in your career is even more better
- 8:45than people look at you and what you didn't do in your career?
- 8:50Well, I appreciate all that and for having me.
- 8:54But I mean, guys look at the NBA and that's how they look and
- 8:59that's how they measure everybody, you know?
- 9:02And I've only played in 82 games.
- 9:05I did make it to the Finals when I was with Portland.
- 9:08You know, I was one guy, one season to have one of the only
- 9:1220 rebound games. I think it was only like Dwight
- 9:15Howard and Kevin Love that year, maybe one other person, and I
- 9:20started to come into my own before my injuries hit.
- 9:23But if you want me to go back to it, I'm the guy.
- 9:28My first basket in the 4th grade was for the other team and then
- 9:33in the 7th grade I dumped for the first time and then I never
- 9:38turned around because I went from that to three state
- 9:42championships in high school, two time parade, all American
- 9:47McDonald's, all American, two time Gatorade player of the year
- 9:51went to the national championship.
- 9:53You know what, the Ohio State University, you know, and then
- 9:58number one overall pick, which there was only one, I'm one of
- 10:0279 in the history of the world. So when somebody says that, you
- 10:06know, that's my rebuttal, what are you, 1 of 79 in the history
- 10:10of the world at? You know, but I don't like to
- 10:13talk down to people like that. So I appreciate the journey.
- 10:18But I know when I was in the league, when I was on the court,
- 10:21I was able to contribute. It's just after all the
- 10:25injuries, you know, my athleticism, which was a big
- 10:28part of my game, you know, wasn't there no more when I got
- 10:31to the Miami Heat. So that's it.
- 10:34But I'm gonna move on and say this movie I'm happy to be a
- 10:39part of. Richie put a lot of blood, sweat
- 10:42and tears in this. This is his story.
- 10:46I just happen to live it on the other end.
- 10:50But I I'm just very proud to be a part of this project and
- 10:54everything that we're putting out.
- 10:56So we do want people to pop up in Miami, buy some tickets, come
- 11:00see the movie. It's going to be a good time.
- 11:02But it it's a, a real life story.
- 11:04And as Richie says, humanizing, you know, the other guys, we got
- 11:08the goats, but the other guys said that aren't compared or
- 11:11quite on that level is humanizing them.
- 11:15So I want to go to your Ohio State career.
- 11:17You made the finals in O7. You played with Mike Conley,
- 11:20who's had a very good NBA career, is one of the better
- 11:22defensive point guards for 15 years, pretty much at that
- 11:25model, A coach that has kind of gotten forgotten about Ohio
- 11:28State, obviously overshadowed by the football program.
- 11:30What was your career like with the Buckeyes?
- 11:33Well, one, Mike is definitely not a defensive player.
- 11:39He's he's all the 6th 1. You see what they're doing to
- 11:42him in the playoffs now? Nah, you know, he he did get his
- 11:49steal, especially when he was with Memphis.
- 11:50He he was amazing. I'm I'm so happy to and proud to
- 11:54be his friend. He's one of my best friends and
- 11:57I'm happy to see him out there still doing this thing.
- 12:01But when we were at Ohio State, the one thing I like to tell
- 12:04people was in Columbus I was able to be a young man.
- 12:09And that's very rare these days. A lot of these kids are going to
- 12:14schools for a transactional reason just to get the money and
- 12:17get to that next level. But for me, I got to actually
- 12:21enjoy Columbus, OH, I got to go out on Thursday nights to the
- 12:25Nini Paninis is a little campus bar.
- 12:29See, I don't know nothing about that, but I'm smiling right now
- 12:31thinking about those memories, you know, but then then had to
- 12:34be up at 6:00 AM, you know, for a lift on Friday.
- 12:38So I just really appreciate that I was able to be a kid while
- 12:43also putting in the work to get to that next level.
- 12:47It happened a lot faster than it does for most.
- 12:50I live in Columbus, OH now. I just appreciate it.
- 12:53And you know, once you're a Buckeye, you they don't let you
- 12:55go. Yeah.
- 12:58So Richie and great. Thanks for coming on.
- 13:00Rich, I want to start with you first.
- 13:02When you hear the when you heard first heard the word bus, I
- 13:06guess what was that mindset and thought process?
- 13:09And did you initially feel like you were a bus due to the
- 13:13expectation that, you know, your family and, and, and your and
- 13:16your community, how they viewed you in regards to where they
- 13:20expected you to go and things of that nature?
- 13:22And how did you process that once you realized that you
- 13:26weren't going to be able to compete at the levels that you
- 13:28had initially planned to be at? Yeah.
- 13:32That's a great question, Quentin.
- 13:33Again, appreciate y'all for having us on.
- 13:36I always loved talking to especially people that played
- 13:38the game and and even the show being so sports centered.
- 13:41I think you, you guys know, with the media, funny enough, I think
- 13:46without giving away too much about the movie, I think my
- 13:49introduction to the word bust was via sports media, right?
- 13:53I would just see the way people like, I guess we call them
- 13:58talking heads, you know, growing up would just kind of like throw
- 14:02people to the side, right? And maybe I heard a segment.
- 14:06I mean, I was a kid too, you know, thinking about that time,
- 14:09but maybe I might have heard something about Greg.
- 14:11Maybe it was Anthony Bennett, maybe it was Johnny Manziel.
- 14:14I'm also from the DC area, so Freddie, I do.
- 14:17And soccer was a big deal for us, my peoples.
- 14:18We from Cameroon, so soccer. Guy, Freddie.
- 14:21Yeah, man, yeah. So that we, you know, so soccer
- 14:25is a big deal for us from my home country, Cameroon.
- 14:27So I remember him when I was like 10 years old, he was a
- 14:30sensation. And then I would just hear the
- 14:32way like my folks would talk about him, like, yeah, he blew
- 14:35it. You know, I so I think it was
- 14:38the conversations happening, you know, growing up around and
- 14:40playing sports and then watching the media and just hearing the
- 14:43way people sometimes will talk about athletes.
- 14:47I realized, you know, Greg spoke to we talked a lot about what
- 14:50this movie, if we had to boil it down to it, a lot of it is just
- 14:53about humanizing these people. And the opposite of that is just
- 14:56it was so much dehumanization, just so much like, OK, you are
- 15:00not. You did not live up to these
- 15:01expectations. So we were just going to place
- 15:04this label on you. You know, to me, like you say,
- 15:07Errol to me is a very offensive term because it removes all
- 15:10contexts, like, right, Like whether it be injuries or
- 15:12whether somebody had something going on mentally.
- 15:15If you just remove all the context and you just say this is
- 15:17what you are. And it's not even just this is
- 15:19just what you are right now. Like you got to carry that
- 15:21around the rest of your life. And that's how people see you.
- 15:24So I think growing up I just realized, OK, this is the thing.
- 15:28But if I'm being honest, right? Like I didn't personally relate
- 15:30to it because I I never made it to that level.
- 15:32But when I got cut from the team my freshman year, I was like,
- 15:38oh, this hurts. And I remember thinking even on
- 15:41my small scale, right, I never made it to me.
- 15:43But even on my small scale, dribbling the basketball around
- 15:46the neighborhood, I was the kid. I was OK, that kid might, you
- 15:49know, like you might do some with this basketball thing.
- 15:51And so having to go back home or tell folks like, yeah, you know,
- 15:56they they got rid of the Walk on program this year or I'm not,
- 15:59you know, I just remembered the the sinking feeling of folks and
- 16:03you know, that that that cared about me, right?
- 16:05And it's not that they were disappointing me.
- 16:06They were just like, we know how much you cared about this.
- 16:09And I just felt like a loss of identity, to answer your
- 16:11question, quit. And I just felt like, who am I?
- 16:13This is all I've been doing, playing AAU, going to the court
- 16:17every day, waking up at whatever hour to go to practice and then
- 16:20go to school and then go to AU practice, whatever the case may
- 16:22be. I've given everything to this
- 16:25and now it's just going to stop, right?
- 16:26I'm only 19 years old and 20 years old, however, how old I
- 16:29was and the ball is stopping on the ball starts dribbling and,
- 16:33and, and to be honest with you, it was like a year long grieving
- 16:37period where I had to just find myself and figure out what I
- 16:40wanted to do. And what happened is I knew, OK,
- 16:45I finally came to terms with it, you know, like halfway through
- 16:47my sophomore year and I was like, but I still love the game
- 16:51so much. The career path I want to take
- 16:53is out and declared at the time is I want to become a
- 16:55sportscaster. Like I want to be like one of
- 16:59those people that are that that are talking about the games,
- 17:01right? And took a so I declared in
- 17:05communications digital media, but then I took a creative
- 17:07writing class as a part of the program.
- 17:10And, you know, we had to write like a short story.
- 17:13And it just blew my mind. I was like, oh, this is fun.
- 17:15You know, this is I found something that stimulates me
- 17:18almost to the degree, not quite at the time, but almost to the
- 17:21degree that basketball will, when I would just go to the
- 17:23court and get shots up and dream about, you know what, what, what
- 17:27a career could look like playing this game, right?
- 17:29Dream about hitting the last second shot just like every
- 17:31other kid and that class led me into the rabbit hole of starting
- 17:37to make short films starting to make documentaries and I had
- 17:39made all these things I made you know web series short films
- 17:42documentaries I I Co wrote a feature film with a good
- 17:45producer friend of mine and I was just like something is
- 17:49missing. You know something about this
- 17:51chapter. You know, who I was before
- 17:53basketball is missing here. And and as I was writing, the
- 17:57movie actually wasn't called bust at the time.
- 17:59I think it was I didn't even have a title for it.
- 18:02But I realized writing just brought up so many feelings that
- 18:06I had kind of buried underneath where I'm like, you know,
- 18:10basketball, who I, who is who I was in the past.
- 18:13But as I was writing the, the the film, I remembered all those
- 18:15feelings of letting people down. And I was like, no, I think this
- 18:19is the movie. I think the movie is bust
- 18:20because that's what I feel like. I feel like I'm I didn't succeed
- 18:25in this thing that people expected of me.
- 18:27And again, and, and as I was writing it and I was getting
- 18:29close to the end, I realized although I feel this way again,
- 18:33I have to pull in the real life experience.
- 18:35So it started, you know, relatively young me being
- 18:37familiar with the bus term. But as I was writing it, that's
- 18:40when it starts to feel very personal.
- 18:42And I think that's what hopefully, you know, if people
- 18:45think this film is good, what I always view as a good story is
- 18:48something that's able to take something specific, but make it
- 18:51universal as a bust is another word for what people deem as a
- 18:56failure. And then I realized that could
- 18:58apply to sports, that can apply to your personal life, that can
- 19:01apply to anything, right? And so the the film is
- 19:04ultimately a personal story of overcoming what people see as
- 19:08failure and making peace with your own life.
- 19:12Yeah, Greg and the follow up with that I've I've, I've had
- 19:16the privilege of, you know, seeing some of the things that
- 19:19you've accomplished post these comments in regards to being
- 19:22labeled as a bus. Talk to me a little bit about
- 19:25how you we're able to actually process, you know, the the media
- 19:31outlets and everybody coming at you in this way of considering
- 19:34you a bus and overcoming that and then getting into coaching
- 19:37and getting into different philanthropical situations that
- 19:42you have overall post this. What I was thinking that, you
- 19:48know, based on looking at some of your story is you overcame
- 19:52like, you know, the depression or the, the, the critics and the
- 19:56media attention and then you being labeled as this person and
- 20:00just counseling out all the accolades and things that you
- 20:02accomplished. How was your mental?
- 20:04What was it? What was the breaking point when
- 20:06it was like, you know, I'm going to, I'm going to overcome this
- 20:10by just being successful in other endeavors?
- 20:15Well, to overcome that, that mentally it came with a lot of
- 20:20alcohol and a lot of weed because it was definitely very
- 20:24demoralizing when you're watching inside the NBA, you
- 20:29know, and you just hearing guys talk about you and you can't do
- 20:33nothing about it. So definitely a lot of coping
- 20:36mechanisms, a lot of time to myself just being depressed, a
- 20:41lot of tears. I can admit that I cry
- 20:44sometimes, you know, because I, I couldn't do anything about it.
- 20:49But really, I, I think it was going back to school that was
- 20:53the, the opening thing for me when I realized I was 28 in line
- 20:58with all these 18 year olds and I, I just had to pick myself up
- 21:04and, and it was crazy because when I went back to school, I
- 21:07actually wanted to learn. You know, when we was there at
- 21:11first, you know, we was there for a reason.
- 21:14We was there to hoop and have fun.
- 21:16But it's really weird when you're like sitting up in the
- 21:20front row, not because they told you because you really want to,
- 21:23you want to be all up in it. You want to ask questions.
- 21:26You wanted to learn something that, and that motivated me.
- 21:29But I think a big one was when my daughter was born too.
- 21:33I look at it as I can't tell my daughter she needs to go to
- 21:36school if I'd never got my degree.
- 21:38And by doing those things things, it just kind of just
- 21:41kind of fell into it like me playing basketball, my mom
- 21:45worked 2-3 jobs. So I was just at the Boys and
- 21:48Girls Club and I'm just on the basketball court.
- 21:51Happened to get tall and good at one point.
- 21:54You know, it wasn't like I came in with the mindset of I'm going
- 21:57to be the best basketball player out here.
- 21:59I honestly just did it and I happen to be good.
- 22:03And so that's what happened with me in school.
- 22:05You know, I, I was just, I was doing it to I promised my mom I
- 22:08was going to get my degree. And then I started working with
- 22:12a, a author kind of life coach guy and started trying to find
- 22:17my purpose. And I intentionally wanted to
- 22:20know who I was because when the game was taken away, you know,
- 22:24we all have that who am I outside the game moment.
- 22:28And I realized that I love being a mentor.
- 22:32I I love helping out the kids. I love speaking to people.
- 22:36So right now, you know, I'm, I'm doing public speaking.
- 22:39I'm also working with a sports management company based out of
- 22:44Florida, Elite Life Consulting, consulting with them on the
- 22:47basketball side, helping these kids get to schools, get NIL
- 22:52deals. I'm doing the work.
- 22:53I'm still teaching financial literacy for a company called
- 22:57Edu Core based out of Baltimore. You know, just being able to
- 23:01give back that education that, you know, I wish I would have
- 23:03had at that time. And, you know, that's that's
- 23:07where I'm at right now. I love giving back.
- 23:11I love speaking. Public speaking is really where
- 23:14my heart is right now, trying to get my story out.
- 23:18Just like the bus movie, you know, it's not a basketball
- 23:21story. It's a life story.
- 23:23And people can learn a lot of things about resilience, you
- 23:26know, pushing yourself through when you fail, picking yourself
- 23:30back up. You know, that's, that's what
- 23:32I'm doing now. And I'm just happy the situation
- 23:36I'm in. I would love to get paid more,
- 23:38but you know, as we all would. Yeah, the test ain't the same.
- 23:43Once you get out, there it is. Not the same, by the way.
- 23:46You got to be, you got to be cautious of that because you
- 23:50know, when we get done playing, you start you still spending
- 23:52like you getting that same check.
- 23:54And that's how a lot of guys go broke.
- 23:56So I appreciate where I'm at right now.
- 23:58I'm happy and I think that's the most important thing about life.
- 24:02We are talking to movie director Richie Camtrum and former 10
- 24:07year NBA center Greg Godin. They have a movie coming out
- 24:09called Bust coming soon. First screening is going to be
- 24:13May 27th in Miami. I've got names.
- 24:16I'm going to throw you guys names.
- 24:17All right. Jamarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf,
- 24:21Kwame Brown, all consider busts. All consider busts, but are
- 24:26they? Think about it this way.
- 24:29Jamarcus Russell made a lot of money.
- 24:31Ryan Leaf made a lot of money. Kwame Brown made a lot of money.
- 24:34And by the way, you know who drafted Kwame Brown?
- 24:37Michael Jordan. Think about it that way.
- 24:40And I, the, The thing is, when it comes to bus, I think it's
- 24:43bullying. And we, we talk about things
- 24:46that people do to try to look better or stronger or tougher
- 24:50than somebody, somebody's fat or somebody doesn't look the part
- 24:54or something of that magnitude. They're going to pick on you,
- 24:56they're going to attack you. So when I look at it, anybody
- 25:00that knows my story, I was an athlete.
- 25:02I was a very good athlete. I was a hockey player.
- 25:04I hurt my knee. I stepped away from the sport.
- 25:06And then I never want to get back into the sport because I
- 25:09got there was things that happened.
- 25:12I didn't sign my letter of intent and I went to a Canadian
- 25:15tournament. I hurt my knee and I was on
- 25:17crutches for six months. And then when I wanted to get
- 25:19back into it, they told me to go F myself pretty much and say you
- 25:22got to play be a be a play on player, try out and maybe we
- 25:26give you a hassle scholarship and then after the first year
- 25:28maybe we give you a full scholarship and maybe 15 years
- 25:31of hard work and dedication. This is what you you give to me
- 25:34playing United States hockey, junior B, junior A hockey and I
- 25:38was playing at a high level at the age of 14.
- 25:41To me, it was like I was being brushed under the rug.
- 25:44And, and again, I, I don't think of it as a bust.
- 25:48I just think of it as a position that you put, I put myself in
- 25:53and a lot of people put themselves in and, and, and you
- 25:56think derogate, you know, you, you, you think it in, you think
- 26:00it in a way where you can't protect yourself.
- 26:02You can't put yourself in a position where you can help
- 26:05yourself. And that's what I think when I
- 26:07look, when I look at the the name Bostor and trying to
- 26:10consider a bust a bust. I don't think a bust is a boss.
- 26:15I think that you made it to the highest level.
- 26:18Think about it in the NBA, how many players play on an NBA
- 26:23team? Think about that.
- 26:25And then you look at the NFL, there's only 200 and 52150
- 26:29players that get drafted every single year.
- 26:31And really, if you're not a from the first or fourth round draft
- 26:36pick, you're not even making the team you got to you got to work
- 26:39your ass to make that team. So I the fact that you were a
- 26:43first round draft pick, and I say this to Q all the time
- 26:46because me and Q off off air, we go back and forth and I have a
- 26:50lot of Jet fans that if you look at the biggest bust in Jets
- 26:55history, Hugh is one of those busts, one of the top five
- 26:59busts. And I'm like, and I'm looking at
- 27:01it. Yeah.
- 27:01And I'm looking at it. I'm like, wait a second, This is
- 27:04the same guy that sacked Tom Brady, sacked Drew Brees, sacked
- 27:09Philip Rivers, I mean, Vernon Gold.
- 27:12Just saying that alone. He is not a bus, by the way.
- 27:15But that's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying.
- 27:17So I don't understand what a bust is.
- 27:19So I'm I'm trying to figure out why people call people a bus.
- 27:23It's not easy to get to the high level and then when you get to
- 27:26the high level, you've got to compete against the best in the
- 27:28world. So what is a bust?
- 27:31I don't get it. You may.
- 27:32Just expectations, man, like at the end of the day, they they
- 27:36have they project this expectation on you, you know, I
- 27:39mean, and it's just like you're not a good football player or
- 27:42not a good pro unless you, you know, at the top of the top.
- 27:45So instead of you saying, instead of them looking at your
- 27:48game and see how good you are within the game, they'll say,
- 27:51oh, but you ain't Jordan or you ain't LeBron or you ain't Tom
- 27:55Brady or you ain't Lawrence Taylor.
- 27:56Like they can pay you at the top of the top and not recognize
- 28:00like what you are actually doing within the game.
- 28:02And again, you're competing against the best of the best.
- 28:05And then the person that's given the opinion ain't even the best
- 28:08at what they're doing. And so that's the other issue
- 28:10with it. When it's like, and then we as
- 28:12athletes, we can't say nothing because we've become the bad
- 28:15guy. And then through media training,
- 28:17they teach you how not to respond to basically those
- 28:20controversial comments. And we're supposed to be just a
- 28:23bigger person and let it. Go and I'll respond to all
- 28:25right, you don't you guys don't have to respond.
- 28:27I'll respond. Go after yourself.
- 28:29That's what I would say I'm. Richie Well, Richie doing it
- 28:32too, though. So I think what the you think
- 28:34about the movies and the short films and things that nature, it
- 28:36gives the athlete a voice to be able to articulate what is
- 28:41actually transpiring. Now you get to see me, you know,
- 28:44sack Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees and all these
- 28:47different players. Now you get to see Greg as a
- 28:50getting repaired a year as taking Ohio State to national
- 28:53championship as all this double, double machine.
- 28:55Like when you get a view and see that from the inside out and not
- 28:59just say when I turn on the TV and it's a game on, I seen that
- 29:03he had a bad game because you're not you're not seeing what
- 29:06happens to that. And a lot of times there's
- 29:08there's actually teams that position you improperly that
- 29:12allow you not to actually be successful in the in the in the
- 29:16NFL or the NBA. And so I think that's another
- 29:19accountability that nobody gives credit to.
- 29:21If you, if you get into it with a coach and a coach don't like
- 29:24you, he can bench you, he can put you out of position, he can
- 29:27do anything to you. And we don't really have that
- 29:29controlled. And if we do stand up for
- 29:31ourselves, it's because now we're tearing, now we a bad
- 29:34apple on the team and things of that nature.
- 29:36So it's like a lose, lose situation for us until we get
- 29:39out and we get meet guys like Richie and Greg and they
- 29:42actually set in the platform for us to be able to speak.
- 29:45But that's what I mean. Well, LeBron James came from
- 29:47high school and everybody was calling him the King before he
- 29:50even stepped on an NBA basketball court.
- 29:52Did he transform into the King? Yeah.
- 29:54He became one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
- 29:57What are the possibilities that he he falls flat on his face.
- 30:01We've seen that. You mentioned Anthony Bennett.
- 30:03Anthony Bennett was the number one pick.
- 30:05Nobody thought Anthony Bennett in that draft was the number one
- 30:08pick, but the Cavaliers drafted him at.
- 30:11Wait wait wait, hold on. Are we not going to talk about
- 30:13that? He literally had a double double
- 30:15every game in college. Yes.
- 30:18Like literally 20 rebounds the game, 15 rebounds the game.
- 30:22Nobody can stop him at UNLV. Like when you say that, you say
- 30:26Kwame Brown. He was literally the strongest
- 30:29man in the NBA. Nobody talks about that.
- 30:32Jamarcus Russell, he had the strongest arm coming out that
- 30:35class, right? Ryan Leaf was a beast in
- 30:39college. A freaking beast.
- 30:42You know that they put this stuff on them, but they don't
- 30:44talk about why they was drafted at that level.
- 30:47As Q just said, it's about everybody else's expectations.
- 30:51And they put us in this certain type of box.
- 30:53Like they're talking down on LeBron and he averaged 22 at 41
- 30:58or 42. Like they talking about the down
- 31:01year. It's like, come on now.
- 31:03And then they just to piggyback on Jamarcus Russell, you talking
- 31:06about a guy that didn't know where his next meal was coming
- 31:09from to a guy the next day having 20, thirty, $40 million
- 31:13in his in his bank account with no direction, no structure, no
- 31:17nothing. Just go out here and figure it
- 31:19out like. In Oakland, at that.
- 31:22In Oakland, you know, be like, so it's just different things,
- 31:26you know, that comes with the, you know, this term that they
- 31:30just casually throw around. But again, I can't thank you
- 31:33guys enough for, you know, becoming a voice for some of the
- 31:36guys that have been in our position and been labeled as of
- 31:40us. Now that all thanks goes to
- 31:43Richie. That's what I'm saying.
- 31:45Look, and I'm I'm a throw right back around because this is
- 31:48exactly why I was like, you know, Greg needs to be a part of
- 31:52this film. We need to be on a show like
- 31:54this because they just y'all just spoke to something that
- 31:57even I can't even speak to. They just broke down the
- 32:00intricacies of it, the lived experience of it and why
- 32:03Jamarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf, Anthony Bennett aren't bust.
- 32:07And they, you know, essentially said what I what what I'm trying
- 32:10to say within the film, You know, the only reason this bust
- 32:13term exists is exactly what they said is because you're comparing
- 32:17it to the opposite of that. And to me, it's a reflection of
- 32:20life. OK, Technically, everybody is a
- 32:22quote on quote bust if you not at the top of the the very top
- 32:26of the food chain, right. So if you're not LeBron, Jordan,
- 32:29Tom Brady, then technically everybody else is a plus, right?
- 32:33Like it's the same thing in life.
- 32:34If you ain't Elon Musk or whoever it is to be right, you
- 32:37don't got a billion dollars, then technically all of us are
- 32:39trying to make our way right. So I just think it's because,
- 32:43man, we have to make things so black and white with things like
- 32:47because of just how I think the media works and how we like to
- 32:50talk. Not to blame all of it on the
- 32:52media, but. Yeah, blame it on the media.
- 32:53About to say yeah, blame it. Because we.
- 33:00Know these shows, right? They got to put somebody here,
- 33:02somebody here, they got to debate it.
- 33:04And this is how these things operate.
- 33:06So to me, the only reason a term like a bust exists is because of
- 33:10this ecosystem of comparison and only one person can win, right?
- 33:14But when, when, as Quentin said, you may or not actually, Errol,
- 33:19you said this like, and it's the same thing that I have some some
- 33:22of these lines in the scripts, like you and the 1% of the 1%,
- 33:26anybody that ever threw a pigskin, shot a basketball on
- 33:29the hoop, kicked the soccer ball.
- 33:31They was trying to be at that level and these guys did it.
- 33:33Greg and Quentin did it. They made it.
- 33:35They've already made it. Whatever happens after that is
- 33:38gravy. Of course, I'm sure they wanted
- 33:40to, you know, potentially do more.
- 33:41But things happen, right? Context happens to where that
- 33:45these things don't all materialize in the way that you
- 33:47potentially see it. But regardless, these guys are
- 33:50like, like you what, 250 guys who drafted a year maybe.
- 33:54I don't know, let's just be safe. 8000 guys who played in
- 33:57the NFL in in history, maybe 3000 guys who played in the NBA
- 34:01in history. How you know how many dudes done
- 34:03picked up a basketball throwing the football right now in my
- 34:06neighborhood, it was about 100 of us that was playing every
- 34:08day, like trying to get to it, you know, so that's just in my
- 34:13neighborhood. So man, it's a it's just crazy
- 34:16to me and that's why it felt really important for me to make
- 34:19this to make this film, but get their perspective, because the
- 34:22way they broke it down and spoke to it, It's you know, nobody
- 34:26else can speak to that the same way.
- 34:28I think anyone else who goes through something you want to
- 34:30hear from the horse's mouth, right?
- 34:33And that's why it's important. I mean, and and luckily, thank
- 34:35God, as Quentin noted, we have these platforms now to where we
- 34:39can you all can tell y'all stories.
- 34:41I mean, how many athletes I know when you're not the only one?
- 34:43So many. Athletes.
- 34:46How many athlete podcasts? And I love it.
- 34:48It's like, no, you gonna I saw Jaylen Brown was doing a live
- 34:51stream the other day and Carmelo Anthony was like, now I love
- 34:54that Jaylen Brown live stream. Like more athletes need to speak
- 34:57directly to to y'all. Hold on, hold on.
- 35:00Don't say Carmelo Anthony because there's some stuff that
- 35:03comes out of Carmelo mouth you. Don't agree with?
- 35:06Carmelo Anthony, the things that come out of that guy's mouth on
- 35:10his show, just mind boggles me. I I guess.
- 35:13Because it's. Ridiculous.
- 35:16It's absolutely ridiculous. It's like this guy and I got to
- 35:20give, I got to give some people a lot of credit.
- 35:22A lot of these, a lot of these ex athletes, they go into
- 35:25broadcasting and a lot of them are good and some of them are
- 35:28just so very bad because of their names, because of who they
- 35:32are, their personalities they're following on social media.
- 35:34Because you know this Greg, when you were playing in the NBA,
- 35:37there really wasn't social media.
- 35:38There really wasn't ABS. It was after you left.
- 35:41Could you imagine if social media took off when you were
- 35:45playing in the NBA? Forget about it.
- 35:47You would have been torched. You would have been torched.
- 35:51I still want to fight some people from Facebook by the way.
- 35:56It's horrible. Yes, Sir.
- 35:59I'll tell you guys. Don't age me that.
- 36:00Quick. Yeah, he puts it back there.
- 36:03I'll tell you guys. I'll.
- 36:06Tell you guys something. So we do this show every week,
- 36:09twice a week, and after the show I get direct messages from
- 36:13different people and I tell people I'm going to answer every
- 36:16single message. I'm also a writer.
- 36:17I write because I like to piss people off.
- 36:20That's just my personal personality.
- 36:21It, it's just the way I attack people and I, they all attack
- 36:25me. They all have something to say.
- 36:26And all the, all the things that I've said on the show, I mean
- 36:30it. I don't, I don't beat around the
- 36:31Bush. I tell you how it is.
- 36:33You don't like it, then attack me.
- 36:35And every single time I get a message from these guys and
- 36:38they, they're attacking what I say.
- 36:39OK, then rebut me, give me an answer on why I'm wrong.
- 36:43And none of them, none of them can come up with an argument
- 36:47that would beat my argument on the show.
- 36:50So I said, well, why are you writing to me then?
- 36:52It makes no sense. Why are you attacking me when
- 36:54none of your perspective on what I said makes any sense?
- 36:59So I don't get it. And then the media, by the way,
- 37:02there are guys like Pat McAfee and I'm, I'm not going to
- 37:06mention any more names that go out there and they talk about
- 37:09basketball. What do you know about
- 37:11basketball? Seriously, Pat, the fact that
- 37:14you have Hal Burton on your show because you're a Pacer fan and
- 37:17and all these other guys that want to come on your show
- 37:19because you're you have a big, you have a big show, it's on
- 37:22ESPN, you're making millions and millions of dollars.
- 37:24But then when he comes up and he's speaking about basketball
- 37:26and hockey, I'm like, dude, you don't even know what you're
- 37:29talking about. That to me turns me off on your
- 37:32show. So why?
- 37:33Well, let me let me say this about Pat.
- 37:35Pat lives in Indianapolis and I don't know if you know anything
- 37:39about Indiana. Yes, we are all basketball
- 37:42experts. Yes, every last one of us that
- 37:44live in Indiana. So I'm just throwing that out
- 37:47there. So I'm gonna give Pat a pass
- 37:49because I grew up in Indianapolis and Terre Haute.
- 37:52So you know us, Indiana, We, we, we live and die by our
- 37:56basketball now. I got it.
- 37:58I got it. But the, the fact here is there
- 38:00are things that Pat McAfee says on his show when it comes to
- 38:02basketball makes no sense. I, I, I'm sitting there and I'm
- 38:05listening. Listen, Greg, I know you're
- 38:07going to stick up for your Indiana guys and you're going to
- 38:10stick up for your Ohio guys. And I respect you.
- 38:13Me. I don't care if you're from New
- 38:15York, Chicago, Miami, or LA. If I don't like what you got to
- 38:20say, I'm going to bite your friggin head off.
- 38:22And I could care less what you think of me and that.
- 38:25Sounds like a New York guy. I am a New York guy.
- 38:28I'm a. Very much, I got a question for
- 38:30you and this is a dumb question I guess.
- 38:33Why are you reading DMS? Because to me, it's a good
- 38:39question. So I'll tell you this.
- 38:40I actually like reading the DMS just as much as I like people
- 38:44writing about my stories and attacking me on their stories.
- 38:47We have a, we have a segment called Alrighty then and we read
- 38:51off. We pick the biggest story.
- 38:52So I'll, if there's 25,000 people that read the story, my,
- 38:57my producer will read off certain things that people
- 39:00write, good or bad, and I will read it off and I will answer
- 39:04them during the show. And it's funny because they're,
- 39:07they hide behind their stories. They give you their false little
- 39:10names, Cum Guzzler or MM and Ike or something.
- 39:14Like that? Yeah, there's some, there's some
- 39:17weird names, man. And they and they have like
- 39:19weird names and they, they attack me in every kind of way.
- 39:22And I'm looking at it. I'm like, OK, so if you got such
- 39:25a problem, why don't you should just call the show or why don't
- 39:28you just air out your opinion some other way?
- 39:30We could talk or nobody does that.
- 39:33You know why? Because everybody has an answer.
- 39:36Everybody thinks they're a genius.
- 39:37They know all about sports and they're know more about sports
- 39:40than you do. And then the athlete like
- 39:42Quinton, they'll attack Quinton and say, well, you weren't good
- 39:45in football. Really.
- 39:46I wasn't good in football. I was a first round draft pick.
- 39:48I sacked Tom Brady, You know, so I I don't I don't, I don't get
- 39:54it. Like the people have their own
- 39:56opinions, but their opinions are not solid enough to even answer.
- 40:00So why you ask me why I read it? Because I want to laugh at it.
- 40:03I like to laugh, I like to giggle.
- 40:06I read it off to my girlfriend, she thinks it's funny.
- 40:10I don't care what people think of me and that's why I do this,
- 40:13because I can tell you to go F yourself a million times and
- 40:17I'll come on this show every single time and tell you if you
- 40:20got a problem with me, I'll tell you where I live.
- 40:22You can come and meet me SO. Don't do that.
- 40:26I'm not going to do it that way because you know, they'll you'll
- 40:28have a whole gang gangling of people over here trying to I
- 40:31live in a cul-de-sac. They're going to be, you know,
- 40:34they'll be yelling and cops and everything like that, baseball
- 40:37bats and you know, all that other crap.
- 40:39But you know what, what it is it, it, the problem with the
- 40:41world is, is people think that they're geniuses because they
- 40:44watch sports. They think that they know more
- 40:46than the athlete does or know more than the analysts do.
- 40:50And, and the problem is, is guys like Stephen A Smith, who I
- 40:53actually respect, I actually respect for what he's done in
- 40:57the industry, he's brought an opening for people to do what he
- 41:02is doing. And now everybody thinks they
- 41:04could be the next Stephen A Smith.
- 41:05Everybody thinks they can bite somebody's head off and make
- 41:07millions and millions of dollars.
- 41:08That's why there's a million podcasts out there, a million
- 41:11podcasts and half of them suck. They'll never break.
- 41:15I don't know if you guys know this.
- 41:16More than half. We're we are a top 100 show in
- 41:20the country, in the country where we're at right now and
- 41:24we've been that way for almost 2 1/2 months on Spotify and Apple.
- 41:28We don't have ESPN, we don't have CBS, we don't have all
- 41:32these different companies telling us, oh, or feeding US
- 41:36money. We're doing it ourselves.
- 41:38And what that tells me and tells what we do better than everybody
- 41:41else is we're honest. We sit there.
- 41:44We're not hiding behind a director, a producer telling us,
- 41:47you better say this or you're fired.
- 41:50No, I'm going to say what I want and you can kiss my ass.
- 41:53That's what I'm going to say. And then after that, you're
- 41:56going to pay me to tell you to kiss my ass, because that's what
- 41:59Pat McAfee did with ESPN. And that's exactly what we're
- 42:03going to do when they're calling us into their little rooms and
- 42:06telling us, well, we'll give you this, we'll give you that, we'll
- 42:09give you this, we'll give you that, I'll give you this.
- 42:11That's what I'm going to give you.
- 42:13And that's, and that's, that's how I am.
- 42:16And and that's why Quentin kind of calms me down and levels me
- 42:19out because I I'm a very personable person.
- 42:24What you what you speaking to is to me is like that authenticity,
- 42:27man, like I think, you know, even when we first joined on the
- 42:30show, I was like, man, the energy on we were in the you
- 42:32know, the backstage room and I was like the energy on this show
- 42:35is amped. I'm like, I love it Like it's I
- 42:37can just tell they it's no holds bars, right.
- 42:40You get in the real and to, to to kind of piggyback from
- 42:43earlier, as far as you know, even though there are some
- 42:46athletes that aren't so good at media podcasting, I would prefer
- 42:51or I just appreciate the fact that they have the opportunity,
- 42:53right? Because you have some guys that
- 42:54are really good where you like, man, you could tell this guy is
- 42:57going to have a long broadcasting career.
- 42:58And then you have some guys where they struggle or they
- 43:01might try to say something that just, you know, for whatever
- 43:03reason. But I just appreciate that they
- 43:05have the opportunity because 1520 years ago that like other
- 43:08people were speaking for them, right?
- 43:10And, and to, to, you know, to this movie, to someone like Greg
- 43:14and Quinn, like they played, they played basketball and
- 43:16football respectively. And they're speaking about their
- 43:19experience. It's just the fact that they can
- 43:20now share their stories, share their perspective and whether
- 43:24you're an athlete or you're somebody such as yourself, Arrow
- 43:26or somebody like Pat man, I think I just think today people
- 43:30are like, yo, cut the bullshit. I want the real, whatever the
- 43:32real is. If it's from your perspective as
- 43:34an athlete, give me the real. Tell me what it's like in that
- 43:36locker room. Tell me what that you know what
- 43:38it was like getting ready for that big game five.
- 43:41And if it's the observers eyes, I'm not going to give you the
- 43:43cookie cutter thing. I'm going to tell you, you know,
- 43:45I'm going to keep it. I'm going to give it to you
- 43:46straight. Like you said, F you like like
- 43:48how arrows doing. So I just think, man, people
- 43:50want the real and that to me is reflective of the world.
- 43:53Where to your point arrow? It's not about acting like you
- 43:55know everything and being a genius it.
- 43:57Doesn't matter what you look like.
- 43:58For instance, our producer and our Co host right over here, and
- 44:02I say it on the show this he's autistic.
- 44:04Nobody would know that unless you know him personally.
- 44:08He's one of the great analysts when it comes to play by play.
- 44:12Greg, he probably tell your analytics from your last season
- 44:16in the NBA. He would know it.
- 44:17He would tell you what you did in certain games, how many
- 44:20rebounds, how many assists you've had in in in in a certain
- 44:24amount of game. The guy is a genius, an absolute
- 44:28genius, but the problem is with with autistic kids, they're not
- 44:31going to give him a chance because he's autistic.
- 44:34They're looking at him as deformed or not normal.
- 44:37So we're not going to give him a chance even though he's got all
- 44:39the talent in the world. When I looked at him when I
- 44:42first started working with him, I didn't look at him as that.
- 44:45I looked at him as an equal, and I still look at him as equal.
- 44:48As a matter of fact, he's one of the most talented people in this
- 44:50industry. And when people get to know who
- 44:53he is and his personality and his drive and his love for the
- 44:57business and sports, he wasn't a great athlete.
- 45:00I can tell you this right now. He can't shoot a basketball, he
- 45:02can't throw a football, and he definitely can't throw a
- 45:04baseball. He.
- 45:06Can dance though my boy can dance, he cannot.
- 45:10Dance. He's a voice.
- 45:11Dancer, I'm telling you. He's the one.
- 45:14He's down on that dance floor now.
- 45:15He could be a Rockette, That's about it.
- 45:17I mean, that guy's got high kicks and, and he's not afraid.
- 45:20He's not, he doesn't fear anything.
- 45:22What makes him so special is not because of who he is and what
- 45:27people see him as. What makes him special is what
- 45:29he believes himself to be. That is what makes him special.
- 45:34He doesn't hold back on anything he says.
- 45:35And I told him when he came here, when he started work with
- 45:38me. The one thing you need to do is
- 45:40be yourself. Don't worry about what anybody
- 45:41thinks of you or how they portray you to be.
- 45:44Just bite their freaking heads off.
- 45:46There you go. There's the middle fingers.
- 45:47Kiss my ass. That's all I'm going to say.
- 45:49And this guy, you can speak in here.
- 45:52Everything. What was the first thing I told
- 45:54you when you came into our studio?
- 45:56What was the first thing I told you?
- 45:57Hey. This is the first show.
- 46:02What was the first thing I told you after you left after I
- 46:05cancelled the first show that you weren't?
- 46:06Hey, thank you my. Boy, what did I tell you?
- 46:09No. That you believed in me, I
- 46:10remember. That that I believed in you.
- 46:11And what else did I told you? That's horrible dancing.
- 46:15Horrible dancing. Dude, you get the folks in the
- 46:18background. Dude, I'll take.
- 46:19Clearing them. All clearing them all.
- 46:21I'm the one to open the dance floor for him because I want him
- 46:24to break it down. Listen, I'll tell you this and
- 46:27Richie, what you guys are doing, Greg, what you, what you have
- 46:31done and what you continue to do, you speaking and, and
- 46:34speaking who you are and, and being a public speaker.
- 46:37It's something that I love to do too.
- 46:38When people ask me to talk to soldiers and people ask me to
- 46:41talk to kids, I always am open to do that because everybody
- 46:44asks me what makes you what drives you to do this?
- 46:47And I it's the love and the passion for this business.
- 46:49I love it. And it's not because I want to
- 46:51be a millionaire. I want to put my face on a
- 46:53television for everybody to kiss my ass.
- 46:55And if you want to do that, you're more than welcome.
- 46:57I'll pull my pants down. You can kiss my ass.
- 46:59But, but nevertheless, what I do in this business and, and how I
- 47:04do it, it's, it's, it's passion, it's love it, it's understanding
- 47:08how to entertain people. That's what I love about this
- 47:11business has nothing to do with being a superstar.
- 47:13The problem in this business is everybody wants to be the next
- 47:18Stephen A Smith, the Pat Mcafee's.
- 47:20And there's just not many positions out there that's going
- 47:23to give you that. And the only way you're going to
- 47:25get there is to show yourself as a different person.
- 47:30And I think Greg, I, I don't believe in bust.
- 47:33I don't believe in the word bust.
- 47:34I don't believe in, I don't believe in anything of those
- 47:37magnets. If you were a first round draft
- 47:39pick and as far as I'm concerned, you were one of the
- 47:43great centers coming out of college.
- 47:45If you look at your numbers when you want, you were playing in
- 47:48the national championship. And throughout that tournament,
- 47:50you did things that other players still to this day have
- 47:53not done, have not done. And when was the last time the
- 47:57Buckeyes were in a national championship game?
- 48:00Please let me hear that one. O7.
- 48:03Yeah, it's not. It doesn't happen every day.
- 48:05It doesn't happen every year. It takes years and years to
- 48:09accomplish that opportunity. And you were one of the leaders
- 48:12that took them there. And as far as you, Richie, I'm
- 48:15getting to know you and, and really the back end of your
- 48:18story communications and where you've gone and where you jump
- 48:22from one thing to another and, and decided to write a book like
- 48:25this and make a movie like this and kind of bring it, bring it
- 48:28to the forefront. And then you get Greg Odin
- 48:30involved and, and really put the perspective together.
- 48:33That to me shows more of an accomplishment than most people
- 48:38can do in a lifetime. And honestly, I give you nothing
- 48:41but my utmost respect. I, I really look, I look up to
- 48:44people like you because what I do in this this business and
- 48:47where I want to go in this business is going to drive me to
- 48:50the next level and watching people like you do it and Greg
- 48:54do it and and even quit and do it at a high level.
- 48:57That's where I want to go in this business at a hot the
- 48:59highest of high levels and compete with the best.
- 49:03And what we, you know, I certainly appreciate.
- 49:06I know Greg does. Just again, getting the
- 49:07opportunity for us to talk about the film, talk about our
- 49:10stories. It's not everyday, man.
- 49:13And again, like I said, like the energy that you guys have is is
- 49:16contagious. Like you making me want to run
- 49:17through a brick wall. Maybe you got to get in the
- 49:19coaching because I feel like I run through a brick wall, like,
- 49:21right. Now.
- 49:23You know, just like cut, cut, cut through all the noise, cut
- 49:25through all the BS. Like we only want the real man
- 49:28and Arrow just from being on the show with you guys for an hour,
- 49:31I'm like, what you guys are doing is real and and we need
- 49:34more of that. And and again, I certainly love,
- 49:37you know what you're doing quitting and speedy, like you
- 49:39guys bringing y'all's, you know, respective perspectives to this
- 49:43show, man. And again, I'm just so like, I
- 49:47was just beaming ear to ear just hearing Quentin and Greg talk
- 49:49about their experiences. Like we got two different
- 49:52sports, which is what I was trying to do in the movie.
- 49:53I'm like I want all these. Different sports.
- 49:55Talk about this experience, man. It's like a fraternity that you
- 49:59know that you guys have that experience that like I'm sure
- 50:03that I'm sure you guys don't even have to talk about.
- 50:05It's like like a telekinetic thing like you know is man, you
- 50:08know, so I'm just I'm just appreciative that y'all had us
- 50:10on the show. We were able to have this
- 50:12experience, man. And you know, again, this is
- 50:15this show is unlike anything I've ever been a part of and I
- 50:18just love the energy. And you know, I know you said
- 50:21you don't want to talk too much on Pat McAfee.
- 50:23I honestly don't watch much of Pat McAfee, but you got all the
- 50:26same traits, man. When I'm all here and at the
- 50:28times I've seen Pat McAfee, I just see him off the rails
- 50:31speaking the real. And that's what I've gotten on
- 50:33the hour that I've been with you.
- 50:34And it seems like you guys have like a really great dynamic.
- 50:36So I know this show is going to the moon, man.
- 50:38So in the same way, you know, we were able to inspire you by
- 50:41telling our story. You guys are inspiring us, man.
- 50:43So really appreciate the support.
- 50:45So but but I got one question for both of you guys, because
- 50:48this is an argument on this show a lot.
- 50:50Quentin has this LeBron James love and I got Michael Michael
- 50:54Jordans love. I almost said Michael Jackson
- 50:56but Michael Jordan love. So I want to know you both your
- 51:00opinion. Greg, you first.
- 51:02Who's the greatest basketball player of all time?
- 51:04Please, let's settle this. I've asked.
- 51:06I've asked Mike James this. Mike James, you know where he
- 51:09went? And I've asked.
- 51:11I've asked Metta World Peace this and you know where he went.
- 51:15So I want to hear what you guys got to say.
- 51:17Who's the greatest basketball player of all time?
- 51:21Yourself. Wilt Chamberlain Hey, so I put
- 51:30it like this. Michael Jordan changed the game
- 51:34and made it global. He made everybody want to go out
- 51:37there and play the game of basketball.
- 51:39LeBron James by the numbers is the greatest basketball player
- 51:45to play the game. And if we're going by analytics,
- 51:51LeBron James is. But also LeBron changed the game
- 51:55in his own perspective, but also so did Steph Curry.
- 51:58He changed the game, hit his own perspective as well.
- 52:01So there's a lot of people that you can say I'm at the age where
- 52:05I grew up watching Michael Jordan.
- 52:07And then I also played with Le Bron James in Miami, who I
- 52:12thought was a creative player. I think the Miami Heat Le Bron
- 52:16James is the greatest basketball player.
- 52:19Be quiet, Cute. Stop, Stop, Stop.
- 52:22Stop, stop you. Be quiet.
- 52:23You all right, Rich? Where were you got?
- 52:26Where do you got? It I'm gonna disappoint.
- 52:28So folks, man, I try. I never wanted to say this out
- 52:30in public, but I'm exclusive guy, man I play.
- 52:33I grew up in the area when I was coming of age where Jordan's
- 52:37Wizards years and I'm a storyteller, man.
- 52:39Like I I believe in like the magic of the whole reason I
- 52:43would go to the court by myself shooting hoops is because of
- 52:45that first scene in space Jam when he's when his dad is trying
- 52:48to get him off the court, man. So I understand what Greg is
- 52:51saying and that, you know, LeBron by the numbers is is I
- 52:54guess the GOAT. But I just can't quit Mike, man.
- 52:58Like it's just when I watch him, it's it's something else.
- 53:01It's something else. And so for me, Jordan, Jordan is
- 53:04the go. But I'm here's where I'm at,
- 53:06though. 10 years ago I would have fought it.
- 53:08I don't know, like, no, wait, LeBron is better than Jordan.
- 53:10I'm at the point now where I'm not arguing like what he's doing
- 53:14is objectively pain, like 42 years old still.
- 53:19You know, they talk about what team is he going to go to next
- 53:22year to help them, put them over the top.
- 53:24So like, if I'm being honest, like probably, you know, maybe
- 53:28he's the GOAT, but the fact that like I can't decide to me is
- 53:32good enough. And you know what, and I'll
- 53:33leave it on here. Both Jordan and LeBron, I feel
- 53:36like I've been talking about the GOAT debate recently.
- 53:37Like Jordan did the whole thing with Mike.
- 53:40Forget the last name, the last. Stance.
- 53:42That interview and he was like, there is no go, really, how can
- 53:44you compare? LeBron just did something with
- 53:46Dave. I forget the dude's last name
- 53:49too, but he just did something where he was like, Yo, I hope I
- 53:52made made Mike proud. So it feels like as LeBron is
- 53:54ending, nearing the end of his career, they're both like, man,
- 53:58put this to bed. Like we, we are the 2 greatest
- 54:00of all time. And so for me, I might give MJA
- 54:03slight edge and Greg gives LeBron the edge, man.
- 54:06But these are the two these. Get it rich.
- 54:09Get it rich? Anyone whoever wanted to
- 54:12basketball wanted to be one or the other, you know, And what
- 54:16I'll say is the fact that LeBron is 69270.
- 54:20I knew I could never do a little part of me, even though Jordan
- 54:23is also one percentile athlete, thought, OK, maybe I could do
- 54:27the fade away. I could do the up and under.
- 54:29So LeBron is just an anomaly. Can't nobody play like him, man.
- 54:32You know, I think that's why more of us, when we dream in the
- 54:34game, we like Mike and Steph and these little these smaller guys.
- 54:38Yeah. We'll stay away.
- 54:39We'll stay away. We'll stay away from Space Jam 2
- 54:41with LeBron James it. Was a pimple.
- 54:43My daughter likes that one so. Thank you.
- 54:47Kids watched it too. So what are you talking about?
- 54:49It's just an era. It's just whatever era you would
- 54:52have put it. In our.
- 54:53Kids wore it out or whatever man, but I.
- 54:55Swear. Yeah, Thank you guys for coming
- 54:57on, man. Tell the people where you know
- 54:59they can find you guys and then talk to them.
- 55:02Talk to them about, you know, where they can locate the movie,
- 55:06The theater, and where they can see the screening if they're
- 55:08around. Well, I just want to say thank
- 55:11you guys for having us. I'm going to let Richie take it
- 55:14home, but next week, Miami is it.
- 55:19Next week, two weeks, two weeks on the 27th Miami African
- 55:23American Film Festival, please come out and support the movie
- 55:27bus. Thank you guys for having us on
- 55:30your platform so we can talk about it and God bless.
- 55:34Nice, Greg. We'll get John.
- 55:36We'll get you guys on. After you get the showing and
- 55:39everything, we'd love to hear your take on every.
- 55:41How many people showed up? We would definitely like to hear
- 55:43your take on it. Yeah, absolutely.
- 55:45Yeah. As Greg noted, May 27th in Miami
- 55:48Beach, 5 O 5:00 PM at O Cinema. You can come see Bust for the
- 55:52first time and then just keep and and and if you can't make it
- 55:56to that screening, follow Bust Movie on Instagram.
- 56:00Again, that's just Bust Movie. We'll give you that guys, all
- 56:03the updates on what other screenings we're going to be
- 56:05doing. This is just the beginning.
- 56:07We hope to be doing screenings throughout the year.
- 56:10And so, yeah, again, really appreciate the opportunity to
- 56:13come on. The show has been a blast and
- 56:16really appreciate the support for our film.
- 56:17Thank you guys. By the way, we were just talking
- 56:20to Richie Camchum and former NBA player, 10 year vet Greg Odin.
- 56:27And guys, go check out the movie Bust It's coming.
- 56:30Soon. And 1st screening, like they
- 56:32were saying May 27th in Miami, fantastic interview.
- 56:36They're fantastic. And shout out to Greg, shout out
- 56:40to Richie. They're they're just great
- 56:42personalities and and what really makes them unique is they
- 56:46were straightforward. They they explained a little bit
- 56:48about the movie. They don't want to give anything
- 56:50away because they want people to go and see it.
- 56:53But you can see that the love of the game, the love of the game
- 56:57of basketball, Greg, you know, you heard it.
- 56:59I it was interesting because I've never heard Greg Onan ever
- 57:03be ever have an interview and say that he cried and he was
- 57:07smoking weed and drinking. I never even know that.
- 57:09So that was that was a good question.
- 57:12Q And we got a chance to get to know Greg a little bit as a
- 57:16person, not just as an athlete, as a normal person, as a father.
- 57:20And that, that is unique by itself.
- 57:22Honestly one of the best interviews we've ever had.
- 57:25I've interviewed over 5000 people, 5000 people, athletes,
- 57:30analysts, writers, movie stars, everything Speedy.
- 57:34I mean, I've interviewed everybody.
- 57:35And what makes these two guys so unique is they were honest.
- 57:41A lot of people just like to beat around the Bush.
- 57:43They don't want to give you answers.
- 57:45I told everybody, Jamie and Sherwood, he came on our show
- 57:48two years ago and you weren't on the show.
- 57:50Q And everybody, I was like, oh, we got Jamie and Sherwood on the
- 57:54show and he was on the show. He would not give me any
- 57:57answers. I, I open up people, I get them
- 57:59involved and and they he just would not open up.
- 58:03He was just boring. And I was like, I can't stand
- 58:06this guy. And then I then the year later,
- 58:08year later, they just give him a four year extension.
- 58:10I was like, why me? Why me?
- 58:13So typical, typical Jet fan, ladies and gentlemen, The Jets
- 58:17signed people I don't want. So thank you very much for all
- 58:21the Jet fans out there. If you're watching, kiss my ass.
- 58:25That's it, sorry. And you call yourself A and you
- 58:27call yourself a. Jet.
- 58:28I'm a real Jet fan. I don't want Jamie.
- 58:31You're telling you? I don't like Jamie and Sherwood.
- 58:34I love, I love Davis. I love, I love the I love the
- 58:38fact that they brought him back. That was a Rex Ryan guy.
- 58:40I love it, but why the hell there it is?
- 58:43I'd be running there it is. Perfect.
- 58:47Perfect. That is perfect.
- 58:50Get yourself in trouble now. That's me running over Q if
- 58:55anybody wants to know if if anybody wants to.
- 58:58We don't know who that guy is. That's you Qi mean this
- 59:02beautiful, this everybody. But by the way, anybody that
- 59:05knows Q on this show and I I'm sick today, but I I'm I'm
- 59:09getting back. I'm I'm getting back some energy
- 59:11on this show. I've been dealing with fevers
- 59:13and being sick, losing my voice and I'm here giving you the
- 59:17entertainment. I will say this every time I
- 59:19talk to Q, he talks how he's a supermodel, he's beautiful, he's
- 59:23good looking and all the women want him.
- 59:25And I say, aren't you married? Don't God gifts that's that's
- 59:29part you get up here line God's gift.
- 59:32I don't talk about how many. Women.
- 59:33Higher. Higher.
- 59:35All right now, am I gifted in the looks area?
- 59:39I've been told, you know I don't.
- 59:41I want tomorrow morning. I've been told so you know, but
- 59:44outside of that. Ladies and gentlemen, he has
- 59:47lost his mind that's. Perfect.
- 59:49Oh, by by far one of the top five handsomest guys you ever
- 59:53had on the show. Get the hell out of here.
- 59:56You're looking at the most handsome guy on this show.
- 59:58Right over here, right here, ladies and gentlemen, right
- 1:00:01here. They call me beautiful.
- 1:00:07Hey, listen. Listen, I don't need any grief
- 1:00:11from you and all the bullcrap that comes out of your mouth on
- 1:00:13this show. I'm losing.
- 1:00:16I'm losing. I'm trying to keep my my voice
- 1:00:18flushed with this pink crap. OK, All right.
- 1:00:22Crystal Lightning. It's crystal light with, you
- 1:00:25know, some antibiotic syndromes. You know, I mean I'm how?
- 1:00:29Old are you you still chopping up antibiotics?
- 1:00:31Dude, I I'm sick, I'm sick, I'm just.
- 1:00:35Take the medicine, why are you chopping it up and put it in a
- 1:00:37drink? Because it it's more tasty that
- 1:00:39way. I don't like to drink, you know,
- 1:00:41I, I don't know. You know what, you know what you
- 1:00:44know what I I can't stand about you is when, when it comes down
- 1:00:48to it, you tried to attack me for the dumbest reasons and then
- 1:00:52and I. Say you just.
- 1:00:54Like to attack me on this show for the dumbest reasons.
- 1:00:57Yes, you do. Questions.
- 1:00:58That's not an attack. That's not you're antagonizing
- 1:01:01me. That's what you're.
- 1:01:01Doing I asked what are you 2? I'm drinking crystal light.
- 1:01:05With antibiotics in him, what do you want me to say?
- 1:01:08That's what I do with kids, like when I take.
- 1:01:10Medicine. It's not like he's eating
- 1:01:12Flintstone vitamins or anything like that.
- 1:01:14Actually, actually that's delicious, by the way, Love,
- 1:01:17love that. I love it.
- 1:01:19I actually have the Flintstones Benadryl because I don't like
- 1:01:23yes, I actually eat that. I chew that stuff.
- 1:01:25It's good. It's good.
- 1:01:26What it's good. I I.
- 1:01:28Allergic. It's delicious.
- 1:01:30It's delicious. I actually eat that stuff.
- 1:01:32Yeah, but Dabadoo. Yeah, but Dabadoo.
- 1:01:34Yeah, it's definitely Dabadoo. Anyways, thank you to Greg Oding
- 1:01:38and and obviously Richie Camp Chew.
- 1:01:40I'm Chew, by the way. Richie is fantastic, man, He
- 1:01:44really is. I, you know what it is I I love
- 1:01:48stories and I love storytelling and I could tell I want to go
- 1:01:52and see that movie. So I because I I like the
- 1:01:55stories behind the story. So very, very interesting.
- 1:01:59Both very, very nice guys and hope we get them on the show
- 1:02:02again. Anyways, we call this all
- 1:02:06righty, then all righty, then all righty, all righty, all
- 1:02:14righty, then all right, let's go.
- 1:02:19All righty then, here we are once again with our literary
- 1:02:23segment of the week. All righty then, this is the
- 1:02:26one. Where we go through?
- 1:02:28Some of the articles that are listed on our great website.
- 1:02:32One of the most highly trafficked websites growing
- 1:02:34across the web. It actually is radio.
- 1:02:37That's by the way. It is by the.
- 1:02:38Way worldwidesportsradio.com. Come check it out.
- 1:02:40We have all sorts of clips from the show that we release on
- 1:02:43YouTube regularly. Subscribe to us on YouTube if
- 1:02:46you want to get all of our updates.
- 1:02:48We got plenty of shorts and plenty of longer videos that we
- 1:02:52give you throughout the week, including that wonderful
- 1:02:53interview that we just had with Greg Owed and Richie Kamchum.
- 1:02:57So the article is about Giannis. I'm going to share the screen
- 1:03:00with you. I'm going to read an excerpt of
- 1:03:01it. There's a bunch of comments on
- 1:03:04Reddit and if you want to have your comments read on the show
- 1:03:07comments. Where can they find it speedy?
- 1:03:09As New York sports loudmouth powered by Worldwide Sports
- 1:03:12Radio Network. On Reddit, so make sure that if
- 1:03:15you want to get your comments, read about these articles.
- 1:03:17That's where you go. Let's bring this one down and
- 1:03:20bring up the article Giannis trade rumors have the NBA acting
- 1:03:24like Facebook marketplace at 2:00 AM.
- 1:03:28Let's take a look. Here it is, Giannis.
- 1:03:32The. NBA has officially entered the
- 1:03:34Every fan base thinks they're getting Giannis stage of the
- 1:03:37offseason. You got fans in Brooklyn posting
- 1:03:40fake Photoshop edits, fans in Houston making fake trade
- 1:03:44machines. Fans in Miami are already
- 1:03:47learning how to spell and Ted Akumpo after 12 years.
- 1:03:51And Knicks fans, Knicks fans are standing outside Madison Square
- 1:03:54Garden holding boom boxes like it's a 1987 romance movie
- 1:03:59screaming Yanis please, we have Deuce McBride.
- 1:04:02Now the scary part. This time it actually makes
- 1:04:07sense. Let's skip down the East Coast
- 1:04:09part is what should terrify everybody.
- 1:04:13What making this EV crazier is the growing belief that around
- 1:04:16the league that Giannis would prefer staying in the Eastern
- 1:04:19Conference and on the East Coast if things go South in Milwaukee
- 1:04:23to immediately made Knicks fans, Heat fans, Celtics fans, and
- 1:04:26every fake NBA insider with a microphone lose their minds
- 1:04:30simultaneously. Because suddenly this isn't just
- 1:04:33maybe someday Giannis leaves. Now it's, Oh no, this man, we
- 1:04:38could actually be 45 minutes away from playing at Madison
- 1:04:41Square Garden. That changes everything, Speedy.
- 1:04:47All right, just for you. Q, We'll start with the Celtics
- 1:04:50comment. This is Shaolin swerving Monk
- 1:04:52referencing the spacing. If the Celtics were to trade for
- 1:04:56Giannis, he'd rather try for swinging for a better big man
- 1:05:00than and keep Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum together.
- 1:05:03Shaylen, thank you for your your thoughts and your comments.
- 1:05:07What do you want? Drugs.
- 1:05:08Giannis right now, he had his best season before he got
- 1:05:11injured. This year, Giannis is playing at
- 1:05:14a high level and Giannis is better than Jaylen Brown or
- 1:05:18Jayson Tatum. It's no doubt about it.
- 1:05:20If you look at the top five players before Giannis went
- 1:05:23down, he was a top 4 player for MVP and you're going to tell me
- 1:05:27you can find it. But who's better than Giannis
- 1:05:29right now? That's going to be available in
- 1:05:30the offseason. What big man?
- 1:05:32You had no big man. You got eliminated by the 76ers,
- 1:05:36who, by the way, the Knicks wept.
- 1:05:38Good luck on that one. All right, we'll go to a Nets
- 1:05:40comment here. Cooley.
- 1:05:41Cooley, with the new tanking rules, it makes so much sense
- 1:05:44for the Nets to build naturally with the way that the tanking
- 1:05:46rules are, especially with the next article.
- 1:05:48You just broke it as well with this new 321 rule.
- 1:05:51I like the new rules for the Nets, even with the Nets getting
- 1:05:53hurt by it. And he was mentioning teams like
- 1:05:55the Wizards and the Pelicans getting lucky.
- 1:05:58Cooley, Cooley. And I agree with you.
- 1:06:01I, I, I do agree with everything that you said.
- 1:06:03But here's the thing. The tanking rule makes no sense
- 1:06:08for the NBA. It would work for the NHL.
- 1:06:10It would work for practically every other sport but the NBA.
- 1:06:16Because how many times do you see a team go to overtime?
- 1:06:20How many times do you see that? You don't see it at all.
- 1:06:23It makes no sense how the NBA is drawing that.
- 1:06:26And as far as I'm concerned with the Nets, the Nets are a losing
- 1:06:30organization. They're never going to get
- 1:06:31Giannis. They're never going to get
- 1:06:32another superstar because they have Sean Marks running the
- 1:06:35show. And it doesn't matter if they
- 1:06:37get a cuff, they get Waggler, whatever.
- 1:06:40And Waggler, it doesn't matter to me.
- 1:06:43They're an organization that bombs everything.
- 1:06:46So thank you, Cooley. Cooley.
- 1:06:47All right, this one, this is Peace Porridge, 90 old.
- 1:06:50He thinks the Toronto Raptors watch out for them as a dark
- 1:06:52horse. They got some bad contracts,
- 1:06:54mentioning Emmanuel Quigley and Jacob Purtle, mainly that I'm
- 1:06:57sure that I'd love to turn into Giannis.
- 1:06:58They have to pony up in terms of picks and young players, but
- 1:07:00they do have the stock to do it. Now, peace.
- 1:07:03Thank you for your take on that. Do you really think Giannis
- 1:07:07wants to go to Toronto? Come on, He has already said he
- 1:07:11wants to stay on the East Coast. 1 #2 he wants to play in a big
- 1:07:15market. Toronto is more of a hockey
- 1:07:17market. Why would he go there?
- 1:07:19He's not going to sell much over there.
- 1:07:21He'd probably rather go to Miami, New York, Chicago.
- 1:07:24He wants to go to one of those big markets where he can build
- 1:07:27his brand. So that's not going to happen.
- 1:07:29But they have pieces that if he waves this no trade clause and
- 1:07:35he wants to go there. I don't know if he has a no
- 1:07:37trade clause, but with the NBA, no trade clause is for every
- 1:07:41single contract for a big superstar because if he gets
- 1:07:44traded over there, he doesn't want to play there.
- 1:07:46There's no reason to trade for him because he's going to be
- 1:07:48asking for his way out. It's not going to happen.
- 1:07:50Yannis is going to make his choice on where he wants to go.
- 1:07:53It's just not going to be Toronto.
- 1:07:54All right, that's one from Warrior Popes.
- 1:07:57This is for the Miami Heat. He wouldn't shock me.
- 1:07:59The Heat will get him because he thinks it's on Giannis's
- 1:08:01shortlist. Now, the Heat does not believe
- 1:08:03that the Heat Max offer is going to compare to a team like
- 1:08:07Toronto, A-Team like Houston or OKC in the West.
- 1:08:10And a lot of these other teams are more young talent than the
- 1:08:11Miami Heat. Do all right, I I agree with
- 1:08:14you. The heat makes a lot of sense.
- 1:08:15Pat Riley knows how to find the guys, but guess what?
- 1:08:18If you trade for Giannis, you're going to have to trade Bam out
- 1:08:22of bio because there is no way you're getting Giannis for
- 1:08:25nothing. Who do you have?
- 1:08:27You don't have much draft stock. You really don't.
- 1:08:30You don't have you're not going to get a top ten pick with Bam
- 1:08:32on a bio there and Tyler Hero and the pieces that you have
- 1:08:35over there. So it wouldn't make any sense to
- 1:08:38just do that. You're going to have to get
- 1:08:39another team involved if he goes if you want to keep Bam on a bio
- 1:08:43there and add Yanis. All right, last one.
- 1:08:46This is just a more general one, taking shots at the Bucks
- 1:08:49organization. No one's trading with the Bucks.
- 1:08:52They've lost all credibility and they'll have to hope for a
- 1:08:54miracle to get anything they want.
- 1:08:57Is that cat? Is that his name?
- 1:08:58Surf Shark. Thank you, Cat.
- 1:09:00And I agree with you. Right now, Giannis is in the
- 1:09:03driver's seat. The organization is in shambles.
- 1:09:07They don't know what they're going to do.
- 1:09:08They don't have any pieces. They don't have any draft stock.
- 1:09:10They don't have anything right now.
- 1:09:12Milwaukee is up shit's Creek, as they would say.
- 1:09:15So my opinion here is Giannis is going to put the organization on
- 1:09:21his back and he's going to make sure wherever he gets traded, if
- 1:09:23he loves the organization, he's going to make sure they get
- 1:09:26pieces back that they can build with.
- 1:09:28If Giannis don't give a crap about the organization, he's
- 1:09:30going to tell the organization to kiss his ass and he's going
- 1:09:34there and you get whatever is given to you.
- 1:09:36I think Giannis loves the organization.
- 1:09:38I think he loves Milwaukee. He's going to make sure that
- 1:09:41they don't get screwed out of any trade.
- 1:09:43So that's my opinion. All right, ladies and gentlemen,
- 1:09:45and that is all righty. Then the Buffalo Sabres and the
- 1:09:50Montreal Canadiens are tied to two with Game 5 going on
- 1:09:54tonight, which I think it's three.
- 1:09:56No, it's 63 right now. Looks like Montreal is going to
- 1:10:00close them out tonight and go up 3:00 to 2:00.
- 1:10:04Montreal dominated game three with a six two win but the
- 1:10:09Sabres even the series in game 4 winning three to two on a
- 1:10:13game-winning goal by Zach Benson.
- 1:10:16The winner of the series will face off against Carolina in the
- 1:10:20Eastern Conference Finals after they swept the Philadelphia
- 1:10:23Flyers, which it seems like every Philadelphia team is
- 1:10:26getting swept as we speak. The Vegas Golden Knights lead
- 1:10:30the Anaheim Ducks 3:00 to 2:00 and with game six dropping the
- 1:10:34puck soon, rookie Pavel, how do you pronounce this Dora?
- 1:10:38Fiev. Dora Fiev scored the overtime
- 1:10:42winner, his seventh goal already in the postseason.
- 1:10:46The winner of this series will face off against the Colorado
- 1:10:49Avalanche, who advanced to the Western Conference Finals with a
- 1:10:53four one series win against Minnesota, which was incredible.
- 1:10:55Minnesota's a good team. Colorado trailed 3 nothing after
- 1:11:00the first period and three to one with under 5 minutes
- 1:11:04remaining in Game 5 before winning in overtime on a goal by
- 1:11:09Brett Kulak. So there you go.
- 1:11:11And Colorado to me is almost unbeatable.
- 1:11:15I think whoever wins the Montreal and Buffalo series,
- 1:11:18which it seems like Montreal is going to go up three to two.
- 1:11:20I think this goes seven games. I've we, we've predicted that I,
- 1:11:23I think Buffalo is not going to die out in Montreal.
- 1:11:27I think I expect them to go strong in Montreal and and take
- 1:11:32this to a game seven in Buffalo and see how that turns out to
- 1:11:36happen in Game 7. But Montreal, everybody knows
- 1:11:40what I like, what I think about Martin St.
- 1:11:42Louis. I think he's a great head coach.
- 1:11:45I think he deserves a lot of credit for rebuilding this
- 1:11:47organization. This is an organization that has
- 1:11:50not played in the Stanley Cup. When was the last time they
- 1:11:52played in the Stanley Cup? In the 80s?
- 1:11:53Well, they did four years ago and that was that really short
- 1:11:55season. No, I'm not talking about that.
- 1:11:56They got, they got there. Yeah, that.
- 1:11:58But yeah, let's not talk about. That it was 93.
- 1:12:00Yeah, when Patrick Wall was the the goaltender and honestly,
- 1:12:04this, it might be the best chance they have to win a
- 1:12:06Stanley Cup. This is a good team.
- 1:12:08They're young, they're fast, they're mean, they score,
- 1:12:11they've got tremendous talent. They have no adoption from the
- 1:12:15from the Islanders they traded 2 first round draft picks for and
- 1:12:18Dobson's had a great season. I love watching Nick Suzuki.
- 1:12:21He's 511, he's fast, he's got tremendous ability.
- 1:12:25Love watching the kid and he's a superstar.
- 1:12:27I I've always enjoyed watching him and I watched him play in
- 1:12:31the OHL and all that other stuff.
- 1:12:32So this is a good Montreal team and and Martin St.
- 1:12:35Louis, let's think about it. Martin St.
- 1:12:38Louis on skates is like 5-8 off skates is like 5756.
- 1:12:42The last guy I can remember at that size that played at such a
- 1:12:45high level like him was Theo Fleury.
- 1:12:47Remember him at a Hall of Famer and should be if he's not in the
- 1:12:51Hall of Fame, he should be in the Hall of Fame.
- 1:12:52So I expect Montreal to, you know, play at a high level no
- 1:12:59matter what happens in the series.
- 1:13:00And I love watching Montreal as far as I don't want to get into
- 1:13:03Carolina because Carolina really to me hasn't lost the game.
- 1:13:06But they haven't beaten anybody. They haven't beaten anybody.
- 1:13:10They've gone through the first round of the second round with
- 1:13:13ease. Why?
- 1:13:13Because they didn't play anybody.
- 1:13:15And Rob Brindle Moore is going to be walking into a series in
- 1:13:19the Easter Conference finals. If you look at Rob Brindle
- 1:13:21Moore's numbers and the Carolina Hurricanes numbers over the last
- 1:13:25couple of years in the Easter Conference finals, they're not
- 1:13:28good. So I it doesn't matter if it's
- 1:13:31Montreal or Buffalo, they have their work cut out for them no
- 1:13:35matter who they play against. And as far as the Western
- 1:13:38Conference finals, it doesn't matter if Vegas wins or Anaheim
- 1:13:41wins. Nobody is going through
- 1:13:43Colorado. Nobody.
- 1:13:45The only two teams that might have a chance to beat them is
- 1:13:49Buffalo and Montreal. And I think Montreal more
- 1:13:51because they're pesky and they're fast and, and they've
- 1:13:55had great goalie, great goaltending throughout the, the,
- 1:13:58throughout the playoffs. Montreal, when Montreal was at
- 1:14:01its highest level, they had Patrick Wall in 93 and I, and it
- 1:14:06was, he won 2 Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens.
- 1:14:09It was 93. And I think it was 86 when they
- 1:14:11won two, they won another Stanley Cup that that was when
- 1:14:15they were the, they were a great team.
- 1:14:16They had great goaltending. If this kid continues to play at
- 1:14:20a high level like this, Montreal is going to win the Stanley Cup.
- 1:14:23This is this is a great team. This is a great young team.
- 1:14:26And but Colorado is they're a pretty good team, man.
- 1:14:32The only thing that worries me, as it always does every year, is
- 1:14:35their goaltending. Their goaltending's been pretty
- 1:14:37good in the playoffs. But if you look at their team
- 1:14:40from top to bottom, from offense to defense, their weakness,
- 1:14:43goaltending, and we'll see. And honestly, I got to, I got to
- 1:14:48give him a lot of credit because Minnesota is a good team.
- 1:14:50They're a good team, they're a loaded team.
- 1:14:53And to do what they did against Minnesota the way they did it,
- 1:14:57very shocking, very shocking. Yeah, they had to pull their
- 1:14:59goal after the first period. Minnesota went up 3 nothing in
- 1:15:02that game and Minnesota still put enough good pressure on them
- 1:15:07to win that game. Colorado was getting good shots
- 1:15:09from their stars. They just weren't getting enough
- 1:15:11to death and then finally their guys came through later in the
- 1:15:13game. You they traded back for cadre
- 1:15:15in order to get that depth. They were able to spread the
- 1:15:17wings out as well, which is something that Colorado I don't
- 1:15:20think was able to do a lot of the beginning of that series.
- 1:15:22Even though they were winning besides that one nine goal game,
- 1:15:25they were still very star reliant and and even W was
- 1:15:28mentioning it too and a couple of times he was betting there.
- 1:15:30Sometimes Nathan McKinnon driven too much and it's sometimes the
- 1:15:33depth hinders them, but they were able to show the depth
- 1:15:35later in that series and make it work.
- 1:15:37Minnesota is a very good team. This is a more physical team,
- 1:15:39more center than they've had in years past.
- 1:15:41And yes, but Walstadt was a very good young goalie that had a
- 1:15:45great first two periods of that game but then just fell apart.
- 1:15:48Late, let me ask you a question. Is Joe Sakic right now the best
- 1:15:52GM we've seen in the last 30 years?
- 1:15:55Because this guy has built teams and gotten rid of players and
- 1:16:00built teams again? Think about it, they they traded
- 1:16:03with the Islanders, they traded Devin Tames, they traded a
- 1:16:07second round draft pick for Devin Tames and Devin Tames
- 1:16:10becomes he's become one of the best all around defenseman in
- 1:16:13all of the NHL. Think about all the moves that
- 1:16:16he has made and he's played for good Colorado teams.
- 1:16:19Think about it, he played with Peter Forsberg, Claude Lemieux,
- 1:16:21Patrick Wah, Huey Croup. He played with some great
- 1:16:25players, those teams, Adam Foot, I remember those teams.
- 1:16:29Think about that. Joe Sackey, after he retired, he
- 1:16:32took over as the executive, lead executive in the GM of this
- 1:16:37organization and has changed the fortunes of this organization.
- 1:16:42This is a winning organization. It's been a winning organization
- 1:16:45since he's taken over it. It's amazing what this guy has
- 1:16:48done with this and this guy was a winner when he was a player,
- 1:16:52Hall of Famer as a player. He is going to be a Hall of
- 1:16:54Famer as AGM. Let's ask answer my question
- 1:16:59here. How many players that are Hall
- 1:17:03of Famers became Hall of Famers as GMs?
- 1:17:07Do you know anybody that's ever played in the NHL that became a
- 1:17:11Hall of Famer as a player and then became a Hall of Famer as
- 1:17:14AGM? The answer, and I've got the
- 1:17:16answer. Nobody, nobody's ever done that.
- 1:17:20And I'm going to tell you this right now, if you would ask me
- 1:17:22if he wins the Stanley Cup this year with this team, he's a Hall
- 1:17:25of Famer. Everything that he's done,
- 1:17:27everything that he's done has been incredible.
- 1:17:30Yeah, it's a storyline that you look at them trying to get
- 1:17:33Landiscock back. That's something that I think
- 1:17:35that they've. And he still hasn't even played
- 1:17:37at a high level. But they're rallying around that
- 1:17:40kind of thing and they know they have to get the combined
- 1:17:42production. They're making it work with a
- 1:17:43lot of these veteran guys that are shifting positions now.
- 1:17:46Like I said, them trading for cadre, they've had to rotate a
- 1:17:48lot of it and then they made it work.
- 1:17:50Minnesota has a lot of stars that end up working out depth,
- 1:17:54players that end up playing well in the and most of the playoffs.
- 1:17:56They just didn't have enough for the Wings.
- 1:17:59The second, I would say the two and threes of Colorado later in
- 1:18:02that game, then later in that Game 4 as well, when that game
- 1:18:05was tied 2:00 to 2:00 and then Colorado big third period, they
- 1:18:07win 5 to 2 all of a sudden and they're on to the Eastern
- 1:18:11Western Conference finals. It's amazing how this guy can
- 1:18:14pick out talent through the draft finds guys, he added he
- 1:18:18added players. He made a trade with the
- 1:18:19Islanders at the trade deadline last year that a lot of people
- 1:18:23questioning that move, giving away first round draft picks and
- 1:18:26all this other stuff. And look what he's turned out to
- 1:18:28be. Brock Nelson has been so
- 1:18:30important to this team defensively and offensively as a
- 1:18:34player. I mean, he is an incredible GMI
- 1:18:37don't care what anybody says. You might not like Joe Sakic.
- 1:18:41I I I know if you don't like the core back Nordique.
- 1:18:43So the Colorado Avalanche, you know nothing about this guy.
- 1:18:46This guy was not just a special high.
- 1:18:49This guy in in the late 90s and early 2000s was one of the best
- 1:18:54centers in the league, one of the best players in the league
- 1:18:59at such a high level. Go look at Joe Sakic's numbers.
- 1:19:02It's unbelievable. Anyways.
- 1:19:04Shifting to another good GM too in Vegas with George McPhee,
- 1:19:06though that team is still been built well.
- 1:19:08Long Island native. Yeah, we questioned it with the
- 1:19:10coaching change and again, something that was very
- 1:19:13unconventional. The talent was never out of the
- 1:19:15question, though, and now they're getting it with some
- 1:19:16younger guys, too. This was a team that was very
- 1:19:18old for a while, but somebody like Dior de Foria breaking out
- 1:19:21the way he did did. You ever, have you ever seen
- 1:19:23George McPhee, the way he dresses?
- 1:19:26I, I, I got a chance to meet him when Vegas, they had their first
- 1:19:31draft and everything like that. I got it.
- 1:19:32And he came from the Islanders organization, just so everybody
- 1:19:35knows. And he has been there since they
- 1:19:38became a franchise. And this guy is a genius.
- 1:19:41But the way he dresses, he dresses like a prep.
- 1:19:44He he wears those high socks. His, his, his suit pants.
- 1:19:49You can see what he's wearing on his socks.
- 1:19:51It's, it's, it's pretty funny. Or I saw him the second year.
- 1:19:55He was wearing no socks, no nothing.
- 1:19:57You could just see his ankles. He he knows how to dress, man.
- 1:20:01He he's definitely a classy dresser.
- 1:20:03I got to give him some credits. That's all I had to add that.
- 1:20:05Yeah, What's interesting with this Vegas team is I think it's
- 1:20:07a little different than some of the other ones were.
- 1:20:09Like I said, they're getting more reliable science on the on
- 1:20:11the younger wing players, their defense in the rush too, which
- 1:20:14is something that you didn't see a lot of with Tortorello with
- 1:20:16some of the other stops he was with.
- 1:20:18He definitely died with the Rangers later on when the
- 1:20:20defense. Got old.
- 1:20:21He didn't have this kind of talent.
- 1:20:22No, Vegas defense has always been very deep as it is and now
- 1:20:25you're getting them more involved in the offense, which
- 1:20:27is very which is very interesting compared to their
- 1:20:29previous coaches and obviously Jack Eichel's star.
- 1:20:31They have other stars galore too, but they also have a lot of
- 1:20:34the other stuff that makes it work, the defensive depth, the
- 1:20:36center depth, which always is the number one thing you need
- 1:20:38for a hockey team in order to win and rather rallying around.
- 1:20:41It's interesting because I picked them at the beginning of
- 1:20:42the year to win the Cup and then I deviate off of it because they
- 1:20:45made the coaching change. But they're embracing Tortorello
- 1:20:47very well and they're not going to go away easy.
- 1:20:49Even if they play Colorado next round, they're not going to go
- 1:20:52away easy Vegas by any means, especially with the center that
- 1:20:54they have the face off capability they.
- 1:20:55Have Everybody loves John Tortorello, Everybody that's a
- 1:20:59Ranger fan or even a hockey fan, American fan, loves John
- 1:21:03Tortorello. His personality, his, his grudge
- 1:21:06against the league and his attacks against certain players,
- 1:21:09the way they get treated on the ice.
- 1:21:11I mean, everything about John Tortorella screams New Yorker
- 1:21:15because that's what he is. I mean, he acts like a New
- 1:21:17Yorker. So you root him on.
- 1:21:20But I will tell you this, it don't matter if it's Vegas, it
- 1:21:26don't matter if it's any, if it's Anaheim, none of them are
- 1:21:30beating Colorado. It might.
- 1:21:32It might go six games. Might, maybe.
- 1:21:35Nobody's being in Colorado, I'm telling you, unless their
- 1:21:38goaltending completely falls flat on their face, this team is
- 1:21:42too good. I mean, really, really.
- 1:21:44So worldly talented. I, I, I, I, I can't say it.
- 1:21:50That's all I'm going to say. All right, going into the you're
- 1:21:52now shifting to Montreal and I agree with you on the Carolina
- 1:21:54angle. I think the same way I mentioned
- 1:21:56in basketball where I think it helps the Knicks for resting,
- 1:21:58Carolina resting this long, I think it could hurt them because
- 1:22:02Montreal tactically has a lot of different ways they've been able
- 1:22:05to score in this series. And they I was again, they're
- 1:22:08one of the younger teams. You're looking for the veteran
- 1:22:10leadership to come through and who's coming through.
- 1:22:12It's in Alex Newhook, a guy that was on that Colorado team that
- 1:22:15won a cup and Montreal signed him to be one of their veteran
- 1:22:18leaders, a hybrid winger center type that has scored five goals
- 1:22:21in this series and has provided a spark for them to in addition
- 1:22:23to all the younger players that they have with with with Demidov
- 1:22:27and Slakovsky. And like you said, there's a lot
- 1:22:28of guys that were teen draft picks too.
- 1:22:31Slakovsky is the only one that was the number one overall pick.
- 1:22:33They've had other guys like Lane Hudson that was a first round
- 1:22:37pick who's become one of the best defensive in the league.
- 1:22:40But he wasn't like he wasn't hyped up like Dalene was or
- 1:22:43anything. I didn't even know Slavkowski
- 1:22:44was the number one the. 2022 draft he was the number one pick
- 1:22:47and. I didn't even know.
- 1:22:48That there was debate over it. The Devils took Simone Nimic at.
- 1:22:50Number. I knew he was a top ten pick.
- 1:22:52I didn't know he's like. I said he's the only one in that
- 1:22:55cluster that's like that where a lot of the other ones have been
- 1:22:57built through those teens picks or they built through trades and
- 1:23:01fishes were mentioning it a couple of times.
- 1:23:03They've taken the Atlanta Braves model of paying them early and
- 1:23:07it kind of the opposite of what they did when Carrie Price was
- 1:23:10there. They they gave Carrie Price a
- 1:23:11big contract and tried to justify by paying a lot of
- 1:23:13veterans and those contracts hurt them for a while.
- 1:23:16They paid Jay Weber for a while patch already.
- 1:23:19They kind of kept too long and they just kept getting blockaded
- 1:23:23by that. But now this is a good young
- 1:23:24team that's here to stay. Now again, Buffalo will put up a
- 1:23:26fight to their defense has been strong first in their wins,
- 1:23:30weaker in their losses. We'll see if it comes through.
- 1:23:32They're not going to go down easily by any means.
- 1:23:34And you look at a case of their where are their veteran players
- 1:23:38going to come from? Because I question their
- 1:23:40goaltending coming into this post this postseason.
- 1:23:42You can't question them now. No, Alex Lyons played well
- 1:23:45again, it just I it was still the biggest weakness of their
- 1:23:47team. I trust in Montreal a little
- 1:23:48more. That's why I had them winning.
- 1:23:50But Buffalo, if they can get the level of defensive upside that
- 1:23:54we saw in previous series, even early in this series too,
- 1:23:56because in addition to Dolly, who's phenomenal, he's one of
- 1:23:59the best in the league. You look at Bowen Byram, you
- 1:24:01were at his draft was the 4th overall pick from the Colorado
- 1:24:03Avalon said Owen Power was the number one pick.
- 1:24:05So they have the upside that's there.
- 1:24:07But Montreal has the physicality with their defense.
- 1:24:10Matheson, who was on the Florida Panthers team that won a Cup.
- 1:24:12And that's where I think they still have the edge here.
- 1:24:15That Darlene's draft, yes, I know I was there too.
- 1:24:18So I, I remember him when he was drafted and I remember how great
- 1:24:22everybody said this kid was going to be.
- 1:24:23And it took him a while to really develop.
- 1:24:25But when he became the developed defenseman that he's becoming
- 1:24:29Buffalo leader, captain of the team, he is special.
- 1:24:32He really is special. He hits, he scores, he's a
- 1:24:36leader, he's a born leader. And it's it's fun.
- 1:24:38The NHL playoffs are always fun to watch more than any sport.
- 1:24:42Anybody that tunes in and watches playoff hockey, I, we
- 1:24:46were, we were at the football field today first thing this guy
- 1:24:49that one of the fathers told me, he says, are you watching
- 1:24:51hockey? I said, of course we're watching
- 1:24:53hockey. And he says, man, there's so
- 1:24:55many fights that this is this is great.
- 1:24:57He's like, hockey players are tough as hell.
- 1:24:59He's like, I thought football players are tough.
- 1:25:01Hockey players are even tougher. So it's it's crazy.
- 1:25:05It's been fun to watch. The NHL has such a great
- 1:25:07product. Congratulations to Gary Bettman.
- 1:25:09To me, everybody boos him every single draft.
- 1:25:12He has the best product right now in professional sports.
- 1:25:15I don't even think that's here. There's an argument right now of
- 1:25:18what they're doing right now with the NHL and the growth here
- 1:25:20in the United States and throughout the world, so.
- 1:25:23Yeah, last thing on Carolina too, I also want to mention
- 1:25:25there if there's one weakness that they have, it's been a lot
- 1:25:28of these faster teams in transition to which I think both
- 1:25:31Montreal and Buffalo have shown they can play at and play and
- 1:25:34they can score goals in ripples. Or you've seen Montreal in this
- 1:25:36game, you saw Buffalo in game one.
- 1:25:39They can score at will. And I think even though
- 1:25:41Carolina's defense was only allowed ten goals through eight
- 1:25:44games, which is crazy, I think that could be something that can
- 1:25:47be exposed because Philly, like you said, Philly's not the same
- 1:25:49offensive team by any means at Pittsburgh.
- 1:25:50This is the worst year for the metro in a while so they
- 1:25:52definitely had the the easiest route so far.
- 1:25:54I just want to let everybody know that I fought my way
- 1:25:57through the show. I've been congested, I've been
- 1:26:00dealing with it, and I'm just happy that I got through the
- 1:26:03show. So thank you to all the guys and
- 1:26:05the fans out there that have sent me.

- 1:26:18you and the guys, everybody on the show for being behind me on

- 1:27:21sports, Chrissy Freud will be. Joining us, yes.
- 1:27:24And if you don't know who Chrissy Freud is, she was the
- 1:27:28one that was let go by her organization because of some of
- 1:27:32the things that she said about Diana Rusini.
- 1:27:35You know, anybody that knows the story, but we're not going to
- 1:27:38get into that. She doesn't want to talk about
- 1:27:40that. But it's very we're very excited
- 1:27:42to have her on the show. She doesn't really.
- 1:27:44She has not jumped on many different shows because of the
- 1:27:47situation, but she wants to come on this show.
- 1:27:50So we really appreciate her and we'll have some fun with her.
- 1:27:53We'll talk a little NFL with her.
- 1:27:54So she was at the draft and I'd love to hear her take on The

- 1:28:13on Monday or Tuesday. It could happen if the Cavaliers
- 1:28:17close out the Detroit Pistons. I'm excited.
- 1:28:21I want to, I want to see the Knicks play.
- 1:28:23The quicker the better because the longer the Knicks wait, the
- 1:28:26more I think it it could affect the Knicks.
- 1:28:28I want to see them on the basketball court as soon as
- 1:28:30possible. Anyways, that's it for our show.
- 1:28:33We will see you on Monday next week.
- 1:28:36Good night. It's the worldwide sports radio
- 1:28:40network, Radio network.
