Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Capitalism works. And if you need proof, look no further
- 0:05Speaker 1: than Michael and Susan Dell, who are preparing to give
- 0:07Speaker 1: away six point two five billion dollars. The Dell's plan
- 0:12Speaker 1: to provide two hundred and fifty dollars to twenty five
- 0:15Speaker 1: million American children aged ten and under who will not
- 0:18Speaker 1: qualify for the new Trump accounts. Those one thousand dollars
- 0:22Speaker 1: investment accounts the Treasury will create for every child born
- 0:26Speaker 1: between twenty twenty five and twenty twenty eight under the
- 0:29Speaker 1: One Big Beautiful Bill Act. On top of that, they'll
- 0:32Speaker 1: match the government's one thousand dollars deposits for children of
- 0:36Speaker 1: Dell Technologies employees. Dell says he's targeting zip codes with
- 0:40Speaker 1: median household incomes under one hundred and fifty thousand, reaching
- 0:44Speaker 1: roughly eighty percent of kids in that age group. Plenty
- 0:47Speaker 1: of children here in West Virginia would qualify under one
- 0:50Speaker 1: plan or the other. Now, yes, the Dells will get
- 0:54Speaker 1: a tax benefit most likely fine, That's how incentives work.
- 0:59Speaker 1: The bigger story is the long term effect. Giving kids
- 1:02Speaker 1: investment accounts gives them a roadmap into adulthood, not a guarantee,
- 1:07Speaker 1: but a start put that money in low cost index funds,
- 1:11Speaker 1: and it compounds again and again over time. Our schools
- 1:14Speaker 1: should seize this moment to teach basic personal finance, save early,
- 1:18Speaker 1: avoid debt traps, and let compound interests do the work,
- 1:22Speaker 1: especially when a third to nearly half of Americans have
- 1:26Speaker 1: no retirement savings according to various studies. My wife and
- 1:30Speaker 1: I were the different aunts and uncle giving stock instead
- 1:33Speaker 1: of toys. Our oldest nephew, now in college, noticed his
- 1:37Speaker 1: portfolio kept growing even though he only got stock a
- 1:41Speaker 1: few times a year. That lit a fire under him.
- 1:44Speaker 1: He started investing his own money from mowing lawns some
- 1:47Speaker 1: washing cars. Today he's building a portfolio on his own.
- 1:51Speaker 1: These trump accounts and gifts like the Dells can spark
- 1:55Speaker 1: that same fire in millions of children. They can break
- 1:58Speaker 1: cycles of generational poverty. And at a time when some
- 2:02Speaker 1: want America to march toward socialism, gestures like this remind
- 2:06Speaker 1: us where the country's real strength lies in people who
- 2:09Speaker 1: choose to give back a portion of what America empowered
- 2:13Speaker 1: them to earn. Good on the Dells, and good on
- 2:15Speaker 1: everyone who invests in opportunity instead of waiting on Washington.
- 2:20Speaker 1: When government steps back and people keep more of what
- 2:23Speaker 1: they make. Generosity follows, and real people do real good
