- 0:00Speaker 1: It is just on eleven minutes after ten o'clock.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Now, we were going to get the latest in local
- 0:04Speaker 2: news with sub but we've just had Chris call through
- 0:07Speaker 2: and he.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Joins me on the line right now. Good morning to you, Chris,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Morning Cody. Going not too bad, Chris.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Unfortunately, by the sounds of things, you've had a shocking night.
- 0:18Speaker 1: What's happened?
- 0:20Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I've got a notication of my phone yesterday
- 0:25Speaker 3: at work that my house was being broken into. Had
- 0:29Speaker 3: a quick snip a ten second video of someone jumping
- 0:32Speaker 3: my fence with at bella clava on, approaching up to
- 0:36Speaker 3: the camera and literally ripping the camera off the wall,
- 0:40Speaker 3: put in his pocket Wi Fi camera. Yeah, I proceeded
- 0:46Speaker 3: to break into the house. Bring triple straight away.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Yep.
- 0:52Speaker 3: This is the second time in a month that we've
- 0:53Speaker 3: been done over. Yeah, ring the police straight away, get
- 0:58Speaker 3: them there as soon as possible. Yep, And great work
- 1:02Speaker 3: by them. They were there pretty much just under ten minutes.
- 1:06Speaker 3: But by that time the guys who trashed the house fled.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Took a peap of stuff. Yeah, broke glass, broke, door frames,
- 1:16Speaker 3: broke uh you know, checked the draw cupboards, tossing through cupboards,
- 1:20Speaker 3: and literally just turned the place upside down. Oh my, yeah,
- 1:24Speaker 3: pretty horrific the second time. The first time is bad enough,
- 1:27Speaker 3: but yeah, a month later, back to another go and.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Chris, you know, feel free to not disclose this info
- 1:34Speaker 2: if you want, But do you do you want to
- 1:36Speaker 2: say what suburb you live in or what area you
- 1:38Speaker 2: live in?
- 1:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's driver. Yeah, so Chris driver and it's yep, gone,
- 1:45Speaker 3: I'm pretty quite frequently around here. But yeah, there's nothing.
- 1:50Speaker 3: You know, they're pretty much their hands tired, you know,
- 1:53Speaker 3: it's it's you know, youth. So I've actually got a
- 1:57Speaker 3: video of it, the guys and there's one guy that
- 2:00Speaker 3: take the camera off a wall and there's two little
- 2:01Speaker 3: kids hiding at the corner of the fence line waiting
- 2:04Speaker 3: for the go ahead, and then all you know obviously
- 2:07Speaker 3: proceeded into rectorgiant and they want and take what they
- 2:11Speaker 3: want and oh mate, I'm frustrating that, you know, been
- 2:16Speaker 3: living here for five years and yeah, look pretty good. Runner.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Now it's just one after the other, and it's you know,
- 2:22Speaker 3: to the point where thinking do we just move out?
- 2:25Speaker 3: Like is that what they're doing to residents today? And
- 2:27Speaker 3: the work and passes driving them out of town.
- 2:30Speaker 2: You know, well, and do you know what you know,
- 2:32Speaker 2: like your homes meant to be a castle, You're meant
- 2:34Speaker 2: to be able to feel as though it's safe and
- 2:37Speaker 2: you shouldn't have to be worrying about this kind of
- 2:39Speaker 2: absolute garbage going on.
- 2:41Speaker 1: What time of the day did this happen?
- 2:44Speaker 3: Two thirty two in the afternoon, you are joking, Yeah, so,
- 2:50Speaker 3: and hence we're working in town. You know, no point
- 2:53Speaker 3: me rushing else straightaway. So I totally getting of the
- 2:56Speaker 3: good anyway. But it's just frustrating having to watch it
- 2:59Speaker 3: all live and actually listen to it all on all
- 3:03Speaker 3: the rest of the cameras. They didn't rip down, because
- 3:05Speaker 3: you can do a live view and sound and here
- 3:08Speaker 3: with smash, bang, crash, you know, waiting for them, the police.
- 3:12Speaker 3: You can see the police turn up and yeah, obviously
- 3:14Speaker 3: too late.
- 3:15Speaker 2: But oh mate, you must have been bloody beside yourself.
- 3:18Speaker 2: You must have been beside yourself listening to that go on.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Yeah, and just no one, there's nothing you can do
- 3:23Speaker 3: about it. You know, someone's just invading your house, trashing it,
- 3:27Speaker 3: smashing it, and you're just sitting back listening on the cameras,
- 3:31Speaker 3: watching it all unfold and just nothing you can do
- 3:34Speaker 3: about it, and Chris the police, you can do about it,
- 3:37Speaker 3: just you know, told youth crime. It's just no one
- 3:39Speaker 3: wants to you know, government just doesn't want to what
- 3:43Speaker 3: touch anything of it.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and you go like enough's enough. They have like
- 3:46Speaker 2: they've got to sort this out. It's you know, you
- 3:49Speaker 2: should not have hard working people like yourself going to
- 3:52Speaker 2: work two thirty in the afternoon. Then you're seeing vision
- 3:56Speaker 2: on your own security camera on your phone as you're
- 3:58Speaker 2: watching someone breaking into your house and two little kids,
- 4:02Speaker 2: you know, allegedly standing outside helping them move stuff out
- 4:06Speaker 2: of your home.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and you just feel absolutely totally violated that someone's
- 4:11Speaker 3: been through your house. What they've touched and smashed and
- 4:14Speaker 3: tipped up side out. It's not just that the anger
- 4:17Speaker 3: makes you get angry. I've got a little five year
- 4:18Speaker 3: old daughter.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:20Speaker 3: The last time that we come home was actually a surprise.
- 4:24Speaker 3: We didn't have the cameras to come home, and I
- 4:25Speaker 3: was like, oh, wow, what the hell I thought it
- 4:28Speaker 3: was there? And you know it, she's only well, not
- 4:32Speaker 3: even got back in her own bed. She sleeps in
- 4:34Speaker 3: out beds. He skin someone's going to come in the noises,
- 4:36Speaker 3: and so you know the fact that we couldn't even
- 4:40Speaker 3: bring her home last night, had to get the grandparents
- 4:42Speaker 3: to come take her from school sleep away for the
- 4:45Speaker 3: night because the house was just absolutely annihilated. So we
- 4:48Speaker 3: couldn't have her seeing that again. And just you know,
- 4:50Speaker 3: going to that whole process of her freaking out about noises, robbers,
- 4:55Speaker 3: you know, people invading the house.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Oh, you poor buggers. Chris, I don't even know what
- 5:00Speaker 2: to say, because you know, all I can think is
- 5:02Speaker 2: imagining myself in that situation, and honestly, it makes me
- 5:05Speaker 2: feel like crying, you know, thinking about your having to
- 5:08Speaker 2: go through that.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah, like you know, both me and my mississes a
- 5:13Speaker 3: teacher on you know, site management construction company. You're committed
- 5:17Speaker 3: to your job. You can't just leave and come and go,
- 5:19Speaker 3: and you know, you go to work and you leave,
- 5:22Speaker 3: your house will be vulnerable. And it's like, well.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Enough enough, Hey, enough is enough Chris, mate? How like
- 5:31Speaker 2: when you talk about the level of damage, how much
- 5:33Speaker 2: like how much damage do you think they've caused us? Like,
- 5:36Speaker 2: how much do you think they've stolen?
- 5:39Speaker 3: Ah, they stole my wedding ring, the White's wedding ring,
- 5:42Speaker 3: her twenty first ring, a lot of other jewelry. I've
- 5:47Speaker 3: had the iPhone here, but other list goes on. We're
- 5:51Speaker 3: just finding more as we you know, start cleaning up
- 5:55Speaker 3: and putting everything back in its place. That's missing, that's missing,
- 5:59Speaker 3: and it's just owing. But the door got a quote
- 6:02Speaker 3: this morning from a glass mob five and a half
- 6:04Speaker 3: hours for a whole new signing door. Kids will be reinstalled.
- 6:07Speaker 3: They actually broke didn't just broake the glass, they broke
- 6:09Speaker 3: the door frame as well. They couldn't jimmy it open,
- 6:13Speaker 3: so then they just smashed it and went yeah, anyway,
- 6:16Speaker 3: so using tools out of my garden and just smashed
- 6:19Speaker 3: through the windows, through the door and checked the drawers
- 6:23Speaker 3: in the you know in the bedroom that are just
- 6:25Speaker 3: tipping them out, ripped them out, broke them out. You know. Yeah, Chris, Yeah,
- 6:33Speaker 3: costs costing us thousands every time they do it. The
- 6:37Speaker 3: last time, you know, we didn't go through insurance, so yeah,
- 6:40Speaker 3: out of pocket. You know, a couple of grinding, get
- 6:42Speaker 3: the door fixed, this NAT fixed and you know, get
- 6:44Speaker 3: the cameras and try and make it safe. And then
- 6:46Speaker 3: they have the cameras up and they did take the
- 6:49Speaker 3: cameras off the wall.
- 6:50Speaker 2: It's like, oh, mate, I honestly, I don't even know
- 6:53Speaker 2: what to say, because I like, I feel for you
- 6:56Speaker 2: and your wife and your little one.
- 6:58Speaker 1: You know, that's terrible. The fact that she you.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Know, he's scared and he's still sleeping with you. Guys,
- 7:04Speaker 2: after the last time you were broken in breaks my heart.
- 7:07Speaker 2: I've got little kids, and you know, you shouldn't have
- 7:10Speaker 2: to live like that. You shouldn't have to worry about that, mate.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I honestly, I'm so sorry that that's happened to you.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I say it every day, you know.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I get to the point where sometimes on the show
- 7:21Speaker 2: we almost feel like we're being bloody down as talking
- 7:23Speaker 2: about these issues. But if we don't talk about them,
- 7:26Speaker 2: nothing at all is going to change, you know, and.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Need to step up and do something, but it just
- 7:32Speaker 3: seems there's just nothing put in place. It just happens
- 7:35Speaker 3: over and over and over, and the kids get you know,
- 7:39Speaker 3: tag and relief, break on the ankle off, you go
- 7:42Speaker 3: catch you next time, you know, have fun. Yeah, it's
- 7:45Speaker 3: not ends, you know, like it's I don't know, it's.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Not good enough, but I don't either. You know, it's
- 7:52Speaker 2: above my pay bracket. But I am more than happy
- 7:54Speaker 2: to continue to facilitate the conversation to try and make
- 7:57Speaker 2: some change because people have had enough and I don't
- 7:59Speaker 2: want to see good hard working people like yourself and
- 8:02Speaker 2: your wife leaving the Northern Territory because of something like
- 8:05Speaker 2: this that's gone on. That's no fault of your own. Mate,
- 8:08Speaker 2: I am going to have to leave it there. I
- 8:10Speaker 2: really appreciate you calling through this morning. No thank you, mate,
- 8:16Speaker 2: thanks for having a chat with me. How bloody heartbreaking
- 8:19Speaker 2: hearing from Chris there, what's.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Gone on for him?
- 8:22Speaker 2: Not even last night, like yesterday afternoon, twoint thirty in
- 8:25Speaker 2: the afternoon. For God's sake, We're going to take a
- 8:28Speaker 2: really short break when we come back. The Deputy Opposition
- 8:30Speaker 2: leader Jared Mayley is joining me in the studio.
