Speaker 2: Hi Catherine, Hi, Chelsea. Hi, It's me Chelsea hand Job
• 1:09
Speaker 2: coming to you. Live from Whistler. Looks like it's finally
• 1:12
Speaker 2: snowy there. When was the last time you gave a
• 1:14
Speaker 2: hand job? Catherine? Have you given an adult hand job?
• 1:16
Speaker 2: I'm actually like three days ago?
• 1:18
Speaker 3: Oh wow, Yeah, doesn't it all start with a hand job?
• 1:22
Speaker 1: I'm it's start but a handjob three days ago? Catherine
• 1:24
  Speaker 1: in a marriage?
• 1:26
Speaker 3: I mean seriously, I am on a doctor requested pelvic
• 1:30
Speaker 3: rest after some female stuff. So it was like hand
• 1:33
Speaker 3: job or nothing. I mean, like, you know, it could progress,
• 1:36
  Speaker 3: but pelvic rest.
• 1:38
  Speaker 2: What happened?
• 1:39
Speaker 3: Well, we'll get into it off the We'll get it
• 1:41
Speaker 3: into I think it should be on the podcast.
• 1:43
Speaker 2: Why would you want to talk about that offline? You know,
• 1:47
Speaker 2: my doctor? I'm just like any triosa stuff.
• 1:50
Speaker 3: Okay, doctor's chill out for a second with the intercourse,
• 1:53
Speaker 3: which Brad is very not happy with.
• 1:55
Speaker 2: But okay, let me just think about that. Why when
• 1:58
Speaker 2: you have to be.
• 1:59
Speaker 1: On pelvic rest, are you delivering hand jobs? Why isn't
• 2:02
Speaker 1: Brad just going down on you?
• 2:04
Speaker 2: That's actually a very good question.
• 2:06
Speaker 1: Yeah, can you come back in the room please. I
• 2:08
Speaker 1: don't understand this. Why is she being punished for being
• 2:11
Speaker 1: on pelvic breast? That's her first punishment, and now the
• 2:14
Speaker 1: second one is the hand job.
• 2:15
Speaker 4: She's not being punished.
• 2:16
Speaker 2: I offered you know, did you Yeah? And she's like, now,
• 2:20
Speaker 2: I'd rather give you a hand job. I believe in reciprocity.
• 2:23
Speaker 4: So you know, we're.
• 2:24
Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, he's very good.
• 2:26
Speaker 1: I just want to make sure that you offer.
• 2:30
  Speaker 2: I'm thinking I get out.
• 2:31
Speaker 4: Here, give them my hand job.
• 2:32
Speaker 2: We're good, get over here. What are we talking about?
• 2:36
Speaker 3: I want to know, Chelsea, have you seen Michael Rappaport
• 2:39
Speaker 3: on the Traders and the clips that are going around
• 2:42
  Speaker 3: about him.
• 2:43
Speaker 1: You know what I've actually you know, let me tell
• 2:46
Speaker 1: you something very interesting. I got this phone service, Noble Mobile.
• 2:52
Speaker 2: Right, this is like the ethical phone.
• 2:54
Speaker 1: My friend Andrew Yang started this company, and they basically
• 2:58
Speaker 1: reward you for not being on your phone. And since
• 3:01
Speaker 1: I got this service, I am not on my phone
• 3:04
Speaker 1: like I used to be.
• 3:06
  Speaker 4: I was.
• 3:06
Speaker 1: It said my average screen time the other day was
• 3:08
Speaker 1: forty nine minutes, and that's including texting and emailing.
• 3:12
  Speaker 4: I was.
• 3:12
  Speaker 1: I mean it was a Saturday, so it wasn't a
• 3:14
Speaker 1: lot happening, but like forty nine minutes, it.
• 3:17
Speaker 2: Used to be like four hours and forty five minutes.
• 3:20
Speaker 1: So your phone bill is like fifty dollars a month,
• 3:23
Speaker 1: you've unlimited, like international, all that stuff, and then they
• 3:26
Speaker 1: then they give you money, Like last month, I got
• 3:28
Speaker 1: a six dollars credit for not being on.
• 3:31
Speaker 2: So the less you're on your phone, the more money
• 3:33
Speaker 2: you get back. It's nice to have incentives like that.
• 3:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, of course, of course, especially I want a phone
• 3:38
Speaker 1: company that doesn't want me on my phone.
• 3:40
Speaker 2: That's nice. Well, let me tell you. Michael Rappaport is
• 3:42
Speaker 2: going viral because of how he eats. Oh, I can
• 3:45
Speaker 2: only is it disgusting? It's it's bad, Chelsea. He picks
• 3:49
Speaker 2: up the whole plate and then he shoves the plate into.
• 3:53
Speaker 3: His mouth and scoops. That is how he eats. There
• 3:56
Speaker 3: are multiple shots of this from him on the Traders.
• 3:59
Speaker 2: What is the Trader? Oh, it's a reality show.
• 4:03
Speaker 3: It's the one with Alan Cumming and money exchanges on
• 4:06
  Speaker 3: it this time?
• 4:07
Speaker 2: And but why is he Why is Michael Rappaport on it?
• 4:09
Speaker 2: He is a contestant on the Traders? But is he
• 4:12
Speaker 2: eating like that on purpose? Like me, funny, I don't know.
• 4:16
Speaker 2: I kind of wonder that too. I'm like, is it
• 4:17
  Speaker 2: a bit, yeah, it's a bit.
• 4:19
Speaker 1: Nobody puts their plate up to their mouth. I mean,
• 4:22
Speaker 1: I've seen some fucked up eating. I'm Jewish, so I
• 4:25
Speaker 1: and I came from a very Jewish Italian neighborhood and
• 4:28
Speaker 1: it was like people chewing on their food. Was watching
• 4:30
Speaker 1: like a spin cycle go around. My father being one
• 4:33
Speaker 1: of those people. You were like, excuse me, get out
• 4:36
Speaker 1: of my five yard radio.
• 4:39
  Speaker 2: It's disgusting. Yeah.
• 4:40
Speaker 3: Yes, well, we have a much more elegant guest today.
• 4:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, she's very elegant because she's British.
• 4:47
Speaker 1: She's so whe you know, from the Star Wars universe,
• 4:49
Speaker 1: the Terminator franchise, and Game of Thrones, Amelia Clark is here.
• 4:54
Speaker 2: We have her live in action in studio.
• 4:57
Speaker 1: Hi tuity, fresh and fruity, so excited to talk to you.
• 5:02
Speaker 4: You too, You're somewhat beautiful and snowy.
• 5:04
  Speaker 2: Oh my god.
• 5:05
Speaker 1: I'm in Whistler, Canada. This is where I live in
• 5:07
Speaker 1: the winter time. I have to keep my feet on
• 5:08
Speaker 1: the ground and skis at all times.
• 5:10
Speaker 4: Yes, yes, I've seen you nude skiing down slopes and
• 5:14
Speaker 4: thought that looks fun.
• 5:15
Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you for that shout out.
• 5:17
Speaker 1: I want to first say that the person we're speaking
• 5:20
Speaker 1: with today her full name is Amelia Isabelle Euphemia Rose
• 5:25
Speaker 1: Clark MBA, which is a standing for Member of the
• 5:29
Speaker 1: Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
• 5:33
Speaker 2: I mean, are you even allowed to be talking to me?
• 5:36
Speaker 4: It's quite a title. I know. That is so funny.
• 5:39
Speaker 4: My parents didn't know what to call me, so they
• 5:41
Speaker 4: called me everything. That's how that goes.
• 5:43
Speaker 2: It's very euphonious though.
• 5:44
Speaker 1: All of those names kind of like, uh, I mean,
• 5:47
Speaker 1: if you can remember them all, they kind of roll
• 5:49
  Speaker 1: off the tongue.
• 5:50
Speaker 4: They do, They do ultimately roll off the tongue. Yes,
• 5:53
Speaker 4: but it's a good like test of the memory. I'll
• 5:56
Speaker 4: know if something's gone wrong by how if I can
• 5:58
Speaker 4: remember how to say my full name?
• 6:00
  Speaker 2: Absolutely? Absolutely? Okay.
• 6:02
Speaker 1: Where am I getting you from today? Where in the
• 6:03
Speaker 1: world are you, Amelia?
• 6:05
Speaker 4: I am in a hotel room in New York?
• 6:07
Speaker 2: Oh? Okay, how's that going.
• 6:10
Speaker 4: It's good. Today's day one. We'll see how it goes.
• 6:13
Speaker 1: Oh good, today's day one of your press tour. Yes,
• 6:16
Speaker 1: you're promoting before we're gonna first talk about the show
• 6:19
Speaker 1: you're here to promote, which is called Ponies. I saw
• 6:21
Speaker 1: a bunch of episodes already, you did, I did I
• 6:24
Speaker 1: did you know who? One of my other favorite people
• 6:26
Speaker 1: is Hailey Lou Richardson, so yes, of course. And Susanna Fogel,
• 6:31
Speaker 1: who directs this whole project, is another friend of mine.
• 6:34
Speaker 4: Oh my god. Okay, then you love us. This is happiness,
• 6:36
Speaker 4: this is a warm.
• 6:37
Speaker 1: Room, absolutely absolutely welcome. Yes, yes, I'm a fan of
• 6:41
Speaker 1: all of the things. So tell me about what it
• 6:43
Speaker 1: was like working with Haley Lou, because you guys are
• 6:45
  Speaker 1: so good together.
• 6:47
Speaker 4: I mean, heaven. She's literally my sister. She's my ady,
• 6:51
Speaker 4: bitny baby sister. I love her with my whole heart.
• 6:54
Speaker 4: I have never met another human being like her. I
• 6:56
Speaker 4: never will as long as I live. I want her
• 6:58
Speaker 4: in my life forever.
• 7:00
  Speaker 2: She's very unique.
• 7:01
Speaker 4: I listened to her episode with you guys. She's just
• 7:05
Speaker 4: the most beautiful, pure spirit, Like she is such a pure,
• 7:11
Speaker 4: rare human who just is so full of love and
• 7:15
Speaker 4: like like if you paid her to be mean to someone,
• 7:18
Speaker 4: she couldn't do it.
• 7:18
Speaker 1: Like it's just she's so lovable, Like she's so quirky
• 7:22
Speaker 1: and lovable, and it's almost like she's an actress who's
• 7:25
Speaker 1: just like like what she did my podcast and then
• 7:27
Speaker 1: she was leaving. She was moving to Arizona, and I'm like,
• 7:30
Speaker 1: why are you doing such a thing? And she's like,
• 7:32
  Speaker 1: I don't know, my family's there, and you know, I'll
• 7:34
  Speaker 1: just come.
• 7:35
Speaker 4: Well, this happened while we were filming. She was like,
• 7:38
Speaker 4: I'm the Arizona. We like looked at the houses, she
• 7:41
Speaker 4: found the house that she liked, she like did the
• 7:43
Speaker 4: thing and was doing this huge move. I'm so she's
• 7:47
Speaker 4: so impressive in so many ways. She takes such big
• 7:51
Speaker 4: risks that to me sound like terrifying into her. She's like,
• 7:54
Speaker 4: this just feels like something I want to do right now.
• 7:57
Speaker 4: Like she follows her intuition and she follows how she feels.
• 8:01
  Speaker 4: She's just remarkable.
• 8:02
Speaker 1: Anyway, we're going to dedicate this podcast episode to Hailey Lewish.
• 8:08
  Speaker 2: Yeah did you?
• 8:09
Speaker 1: And did you get her book? Her book of poetry?
• 8:10
Speaker 1: That of course I did? Okay, good, Yes I did.
• 8:13
  Speaker 2: She's so cute.
• 8:14
Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes I felt that on my little Instagram.
• 8:17
Speaker 1: Nice Russian by the way, did you have to learn
• 8:19
Speaker 1: Russian for this role?
• 8:20
Speaker 4: I mean yeah, this was massive. This was like the
• 8:24
Speaker 4: biggest I I have never worked hard at any on
• 8:29
Speaker 4: any job ever, and I never will again. It was
• 8:32
Speaker 4: literally like half my lines are Russian. I did not
• 8:35
Speaker 4: speak Russian. I'm not a linguist speak English, and I
• 8:39
Speaker 4: pretend that I can speak French, and that's pretty much.
• 8:41
  Speaker 1: You speak the Queen's English. So that's actually that's a
• 8:44
Speaker 1: feather in your pocket as well. Okay, the proper English.
• 8:48
Speaker 4: Okay, double language, double English.
• 8:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, so you did you have to learn Russian.
• 8:53
Speaker 1: Russian is a I have a Russian sister in law,
• 8:55
Speaker 1: so I'm familiar with the language.
• 8:57
  Speaker 2: And it's tricky.
• 8:59
Speaker 4: It's so this sounds are not like you don't hear
• 9:02
Speaker 4: Slavic sounds all the time in Europe, Like it's not
• 9:06
Speaker 4: it's not a sound that I'm hearing all the time.
• 9:08
Speaker 4: So I just couldn't get my mouth around it for
• 9:12
Speaker 4: half of it. And so I had this incredible dialect
• 9:14
Speaker 4: coach who was completely remarkable, and he created this whole Oh,
• 9:21
Speaker 4: this whole thing. There's like a memory palace. There was stories,
• 9:24
Speaker 4: there were like what is this rushing word? Sound like
• 9:26
Speaker 4: an English And then there were images and I had
• 9:28
Speaker 4: to learn their images to learn the story, to learn
• 9:31
Speaker 4: the words, to learn the lines. This was like a
• 9:34
  Speaker 4: five step process.
• 9:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, a real pain in the ass, especially for me.
• 9:38
Speaker 1: You say this is the hardest you've ever worked with
• 9:40
Speaker 1: all of the movies that you've done. That's saying a
• 9:42
Speaker 1: lot because being a mother to dragons, being in the
• 9:46
Speaker 1: Star Wars, all of the nonsense that you've gotten up
• 9:49
Speaker 1: to in this like sci fi world, pretending that you
• 9:52
Speaker 1: have two dragons as babies is that was Oh, that's right, three,
• 9:56
Speaker 1: what am I talking about?
• 9:59
Speaker 2: You know what? It's funny.
• 10:00
Speaker 1: I just came back from Antarctica and I was they
• 10:02
Speaker 1: have these icebergs, right. You go on these excursions and
• 10:06
Speaker 1: the icebergs are so massive that you and you get
• 10:08
Speaker 1: on kayaks and you and you're like kind of you know,
• 10:11
Speaker 1: you're riding around and you're circling the icebergs, and then
• 10:14
Speaker 1: they're so big that when you get closer, they kind
• 10:17
Speaker 1: of unduly and they go up and down.
• 10:19
Speaker 2: And I said, I was like, this is like one
• 10:21
Speaker 2: of those dragons from King Thrones.
• 10:23
Speaker 1: I was like, this is like a real life, eating,
• 10:25
Speaker 1: breathing thing that's alive.
• 10:27
Speaker 4: And then I got to so like you definitely experience.
• 10:33
Speaker 2: You're looking at a tennis ball when we're looking at
• 10:35
  Speaker 2: a dragon.
• 10:36
Speaker 4: I'm looking at a tennis bowl and I'm looking at
• 10:38
Speaker 4: three guys trying to not catch my eye holding the
• 10:41
Speaker 4: tennis bowl at the end of a big ball.
• 10:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, that is difficult. That's some tough stuff.
• 10:48
Speaker 1: Okay, So tell me, like with the spectrum of all
• 10:50
Speaker 1: of this work that you're doing, because this is this
• 10:53
  Speaker 1: isn't lighter fare, but it's.
• 10:54
Speaker 2: It's got comedy in it.
• 10:55
Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, it's tongue in chic and and it's
• 10:58
Speaker 1: chemistry and it's kind of like it's a nice duo
• 11:01
Speaker 1: of women rather than men doing this show. So I
• 11:04
Speaker 1: obviously really like that. But with everything you do I do,
• 11:07
Speaker 1: I am interested in your process and how you break
• 11:10
Speaker 1: things down, Like how do you look at acting and
• 11:12
Speaker 1: how do you take on these roles whether it's something
• 11:15
Speaker 1: totally sci fi or whether it's more rooted. And this
• 11:18
Speaker 1: is a period piece that takes place in Rusho a
• 11:20
Speaker 1: long time ago, but like, how do you approach all
• 11:22
  Speaker 1: of that?
• 11:23
Speaker 4: Okay? So it's definitely changed throughout the years. I mean
• 11:27
Speaker 4: I started pretty much on Game of Thrones, and I
• 11:31
Speaker 4: was pretty much straight out of drama school, like a
• 11:33
Speaker 4: year out of drama school. So I on Game of
• 11:36
Speaker 4: Thrones used to hide between parked cars to prepare because
• 11:40
Speaker 4: I needed to prepare and I needed like space and
• 11:43
Speaker 4: time and like I'm having a panic attack and what
• 11:45
Speaker 4: am I doing? And this is my first big job
• 11:47
Speaker 4: and the eighties I didn't understand an AD's job was
• 11:50
Speaker 4: to make sure they knew where you were, and they
• 11:53
Speaker 4: that's their job. I would be like, why why did
• 11:56
Speaker 4: they want me? Why'd people calling my name like this
• 11:58
Speaker 4: is did you give me some give me a it's
• 12:00
Speaker 4: And then I realized that they had to and I
• 12:02
Speaker 4: was not helping them by hiding. And so I think
• 12:05
Speaker 4: that in the beginning it was very much like drama
• 12:09
Speaker 4: school training. There's a right way to do this. I'm
• 12:12
Speaker 4: a I'm goodie shoes shoes. I want to do the
• 12:14
Speaker 4: right one, upset anyone. I want to do the right
• 12:16
Speaker 4: down thing. So that was it, and I found that
• 12:19
Speaker 4: if I so, when you're in a set the people,
• 12:24
Speaker 4: you have your stand ins to do the lighting right.
• 12:26
Speaker 4: And I used to be like, but if I do
• 12:27
Speaker 4: my own stand in stuff, then I get to have
• 12:30
  Speaker 4: some alone.
• 12:31
Speaker 2: Time, alone time to prepare.
• 12:34
Speaker 4: And then you do other jobs and you're like, this
• 12:37
Speaker 4: isn't I can't keep this up. This is just not
• 12:40
  Speaker 4: I didn't.
• 12:42
Speaker 2: Keep the stick up.
• 12:43
Speaker 1: First of all, it's a surprise to hear that there
• 12:45
Speaker 1: were cars on the set of Game of Thrones. Okay,
• 12:47
Speaker 1: so that's a spoil alert right there. I had no
• 12:50
Speaker 1: idea you guys were dealing with any.
• 12:51
Speaker 2: Sort of modern day machinery.
• 12:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, in between the dragons, and then I don't know,
• 12:58
Speaker 4: you get older and you'll changes. I think for me,
• 13:02
Speaker 4: I like, you know, the sets of families, you're there
• 13:06
Speaker 4: for a long amount of time. It turns into this,
• 13:08
Speaker 4: like how do I manage my energy? How do I
• 13:10
Speaker 4: make sure that when the cameras are rolling and it's
• 13:13
Speaker 4: this thing that's gonna last forever or as long as
• 13:16
Speaker 4: people want to watch it, that like I'm doing my
• 13:20
Speaker 4: job as best I can, and that literally is like
• 13:23
Speaker 4: an energy thing. So I'll do a lot of preparation
• 13:27
Speaker 4: before the job, and I'll do a lot of reading.
• 13:29
Speaker 4: I'll reread the scripture and baginion times. I'll like watch
• 13:33
Speaker 4: the stuff that's helpful. I'll craft the character together or
• 13:35
Speaker 4: have my little notebook. I'll have my sound my music
• 13:38
Speaker 4: like playlist, stuff like all of those things that when
• 13:40
Speaker 4: I turn up, I've done it already, and then I
• 13:43
Speaker 4: can like shoot the ship with everyone that set and
• 13:45
Speaker 4: feel good that I know what I'm what, what is?
• 13:49
  Speaker 4: What's already?
• 13:50
Speaker 1: Once you're prepped enough than anything can come your way
• 13:52
Speaker 1: and you're like, all right, I got this, you know,
• 13:55
Speaker 1: like theme, it's the same for comedy. It's like, as
• 13:57
Speaker 1: long as you're you've got your game together and you're
• 14:00
Speaker 1: shit together, if someone is heckling in the audience or
• 14:02
Speaker 1: someone's drunk or whatever, if something a joke doesn't it
• 14:05
Speaker 1: doesn't matter. Because you're so well prepared, you can easily
• 14:08
  Speaker 1: pivot exactly.
• 14:09
Speaker 4: And like I feel for me, I'm definitely an intuitive actors,
• 14:12
Speaker 4: so I'm not I mean you would not. I'm the
• 14:14
Speaker 4: furthest thing from a method actor you can possibly imagine,
• 14:17
Speaker 4: like I'll be like and then she said, in an
• 14:18
Speaker 4: action you know what I mean?
• 14:19
  Speaker 2: Like it's it.
• 14:21
Speaker 4: I don't need that so much, but I do need
• 14:25
Speaker 4: to feel safe in the environment that I'm filming in.
• 14:28
Speaker 4: So you want to like I'm friends with you know,
• 14:30
Speaker 4: I want to I want to know the crew well.
• 14:31
Speaker 4: I want to feel like we're all in this together,
• 14:34
Speaker 4: and then I can embarras because sometimes acting is embarrassing.
• 14:37
Speaker 2: It is you know, you're doing a.
• 14:39
Speaker 4: Sex scene and you're like, hey, Tim, how are you
• 14:41
Speaker 4: had a good day. Yeah, let me. I'm just going
• 14:42
Speaker 4: to get back to It's so I think that's kind
• 14:45
Speaker 4: of one of the the ways that my process or
• 14:49
Speaker 4: like how I deal with acting has changed throughout the years.
• 14:51
Speaker 4: But it's also feeling like in the moment you're ready
• 14:57
Speaker 4: to pivot, you're because it's one thing like when I
• 15:00
Speaker 4: as a kid, you would you know, you'd you'd be
• 15:02
Speaker 4: in your hotel room. You'd be like right stand here
• 15:04
Speaker 4: and say it like this, and he's gonna be there,
• 15:07
Speaker 4: and I'm so prepared and you're like so tense, and
• 15:11
Speaker 4: that doesn't help because you can upset and everything's in
• 15:14
Speaker 4: your acting with people. Sometimes the tennis ball, but sometimes
• 15:16
Speaker 4: people and they're gonna bring their own thing, and then
• 15:18
Speaker 4: they got a director who's going to have his own opinion.
• 15:21
Speaker 4: So I like to go with I'd like to I
• 15:25
Speaker 4: like to feel as free as I can in the
• 15:27
Speaker 4: scene to be able to react to whatever I need
• 15:30
Speaker 4: to react to, to be able to like take the
• 15:31
Speaker 4: right direction, listen to the other person respond accordingly without
• 15:37
Speaker 4: having too much of my idea of how I think
• 15:40
  Speaker 4: this should go.
• 15:40
Speaker 1: Yeah, because I mean playing something like Denara's Targerian did
• 15:44
Speaker 1: I say that right that you said, it's so right. Wow,
• 15:47
Speaker 1: another mollifluous name that you have. You have a lot
• 15:49
Speaker 1: of you have a lot of syllables in all of
• 15:50
Speaker 1: your characters' names. I do, yeah, but playing someone like that,
• 15:54
Speaker 1: like that's a fucking bold Like you have to come
• 15:57
Speaker 1: out and like you know, you are commanding, Like I'm
• 16:00
Speaker 1: as of presence for that show. Yeah, you're the lead,
• 16:03
Speaker 1: Like you have to come out and do something that's
• 16:06
Speaker 1: so not rooted in reality, and like that's a huge swing.
• 16:11
Speaker 2: So watching the presence that you had during that show.
• 16:13
Speaker 1: Never I mean, we'll obviously we're gonna cover all your performances, but.
• 16:17
Speaker 2: I just want to say, as if you were you're.
• 16:18
Speaker 1: Like whoa, because you have to be a powerhouse to
• 16:21
Speaker 1: pull that off and make it convincing, because that would
• 16:24
Speaker 1: be for me if someone said you're gonna play a
• 16:26
Speaker 1: mother to dragons, I'd bean like, please don't make me
• 16:28
  Speaker 1: do that, Like.
• 16:29
  Speaker 2: I don't know, but I don't have the skill set
• 16:32
Speaker 2: to pull that off. Well I didn't, so it's an undertaking.
• 16:38
Speaker 4: I mean I didn't, and like you know, from the
• 16:40
Speaker 4: beginning of the show, I agree with it. She was
• 16:43
Speaker 4: really like nervous and scared and didn't know anything, and
• 16:46
Speaker 4: like as the things, as the seasons went on, she
• 16:48
Speaker 4: got more and more and more. You know, by the
• 16:51
Speaker 4: end she's a bad ass motherfucker. But in the beginning
• 16:55
Speaker 4: she wasn't at all. So I think I kind of
• 16:56
Speaker 4: grew with her. And it's weird. The camera turns on
• 17:02
Speaker 4: and like something else happens, like you just like you
• 17:06
Speaker 4: can This is going to sound like a really weird example,
• 17:08
Speaker 4: but you can tell whenever. So I had to do
• 17:09
Speaker 4: a lot of riding horses on game zones. In the beginning,
• 17:13
Speaker 4: I suck at it.
• 17:14
Speaker 2: I fell off with the just let you ride a
• 17:16
  Speaker 2: tennis ball.
• 17:19
Speaker 4: Exactly. I mean there was one time where it was
• 17:21
Speaker 4: going so badly they put me on the camera dolly
• 17:24
Speaker 4: and pretended just put a load of axes around it,
• 17:28
Speaker 4: and I was like, yeah, riding the horse and riding barries,
• 17:32
Speaker 4: camera trolley And as soon as you get on a horse,
• 17:35
Speaker 4: the horse feels everything that you're feeling, right, So if
• 17:38
Speaker 4: your hit scared the horses, like get off, I stop it.
• 17:42
Speaker 4: This is and I'm gonna go crazy. And there were
• 17:45
Speaker 4: times when I was like, I'm calm, everything's calm. The
• 17:47
Speaker 4: horses calm, everything's good. They yell action and you can
• 17:51
Speaker 4: feel because the horse is like what, there's a tension,
• 17:54
Speaker 4: do you know what I mean? Something changes? So I
• 17:57
Speaker 4: feel definitely, put me on camera, have someone say action,
• 18:02
Speaker 4: and I can access something else that is.
• 18:05
Speaker 1: I guess that's what being an actor is. Like I
• 18:08
Speaker 1: heard Leo DiCaprio talking the other day. They're like, so
• 18:11
Speaker 1: do you do all your scenes high? When you're high,
• 18:13
Speaker 1: do you smoke the guy? Or when you're playing a
• 18:15
Speaker 1: stoner in battle one battle after another, are you smoking?
• 18:17
Speaker 2: And he goes, no, I'm acting, that's what.
• 18:21
  Speaker 4: Why not?
• 18:21
Speaker 2: I'm acting? And I was like, good answer.
• 18:24
Speaker 1: You don't have to drink in a scene where you're
• 18:27
Speaker 1: drinking if you're actually an actor.
• 18:29
Speaker 4: Exactly exactly. Yes, So yeah, I suppose it's the Yeah,
• 18:33
Speaker 4: and then you do it so long it's your job
• 18:36
Speaker 4: and it just it just.
• 18:38
  Speaker 2: I don't know.
• 18:39
Speaker 4: I'm kind of hardwired.
• 18:40
Speaker 1: So when you were riding the horses, was that? Were
• 18:41
Speaker 1: you riding the horses when you were supposed to be
• 18:43
  Speaker 1: riding the dragons.
• 18:44
Speaker 4: No, I was riding the horses. When I was riding
• 18:46
Speaker 4: the horses, but I sucks to riding the horses, like,
• 18:48
Speaker 4: thank god, they put me on a dragon.
• 18:50
Speaker 2: And so when you were riding the dragon, what were
• 18:51
Speaker 2: you riding an Actually I.
• 18:53
Speaker 4: Was riding a This was fun. I was riding a
• 18:57
Speaker 4: big green kind of imagine like an ninja turtle shell,
• 19:01
Speaker 4: but like very very big, on this huge hydraulic system
• 19:04
Speaker 4: and it all had like moving parts on like me,
• 19:07
Speaker 4: really really big scaffolding in like a huge aircraft hangar
• 19:12
Speaker 4: all the way up the top. And they have it
• 19:16
Speaker 4: on a on a like program which makes sense, like
• 19:19
Speaker 4: you know, it took a day to film two minutes
• 19:22
Speaker 4: worth of me on a dragon, basically really, And so
• 19:25
Speaker 4: I would be up there and you'd have to look
• 19:28
Speaker 4: like you were driving the dragon. It's not driving the dragon.
• 19:31
Speaker 4: Riding No, I think you're right.
• 19:34
Speaker 2: I'm not driving the dragon.
• 19:38
Speaker 4: Sometimes it's called chasing the dragon sometimes sometimes. And so
• 19:43
Speaker 4: I'm there and you have to predict what the preprogrammed
• 19:46
Speaker 4: thing is going to be and then have on one
• 19:49
Speaker 4: of the shoots that get breaking down, and they'd be
• 19:51
Speaker 4: giving me my notes and I'd be like, yeah, carry on,
• 19:53
Speaker 4: I'm just gonna let this like ride up. It just
• 19:55
Speaker 4: it was. It was super intense, but sometimes very fun.
• 19:59
Speaker 1: And I know you were talking publicly. This is something
• 20:01
Speaker 1: that if you're okay to talk about, I would love to.
• 20:03
Speaker 1: I know you talked publicly about being having some two
• 20:05
Speaker 1: brain aneurysms while you were filming Game of Thrones?
• 20:08
Speaker 2: How yes, how are you doing? How was that recovery?
• 20:11
Speaker 2: Can you talk about it?
• 20:13
Speaker 4: I mean, so, the recovery was non existent because I
• 20:18
Speaker 4: didn't have time. So I shot Season one of Game
• 20:21
Speaker 4: of Thrones first, like you know, paying or whatever a
• 20:26
Speaker 4: job money doing the thing that I loved, and then
• 20:30
Speaker 4: we finished. We wrapped that Christmas, and in February of
• 20:33
Speaker 4: the next year, I have my first brain hemmrhy j.
• 20:35
Speaker 4: I was in the gym. It was obviously a massive shock,
• 20:37
Speaker 4: rushed a hospital. They saved my life. I then was
• 20:40
Speaker 4: in hospital for three weeks and they couldn't tell HBO
• 20:45
Speaker 4: for two weeks until they knew I wasn't going to die,
• 20:48
Speaker 4: that this had happened. And I got to the hospital
• 20:51
Speaker 4: and in my lucid moments, was like trying to pull
• 20:54
Speaker 4: out the wires to be like I got to get
• 20:56
Speaker 4: to work. What are you doing? Yeah? I can't, And
• 20:59
Speaker 4: so they saved my life. Incredible, the incredible NHS and
• 21:05
Speaker 4: then I had like six weeks maybe, and then I
• 21:09
Speaker 4: was on the press tool for my first ever press
• 21:12
Speaker 4: tool with morphine. Oh whoa, Yeah, it was super It
• 21:17
Speaker 4: was super super intense. But having Game of Thrones and
• 21:20
Speaker 4: having the job was the thing that got me through.
• 21:22
Speaker 4: And then the second time it happened, that just sucked.
• 21:24
Speaker 4: That was just super annoying because I spoke to David
• 21:28
Speaker 4: and Dan and they were like again, like how did that?
• 21:31
Speaker 4: And the second one was a procedure that went wrong,
• 21:34
Speaker 4: and so that resulted in a much bigger bleed and
• 21:36
Speaker 4: they had to then do like I had this big scar,
• 21:40
Speaker 4: they had to like crack my head open.
• 21:41
Speaker 2: Oh and that's god.
• 21:43
Speaker 1: I mean, how does one get a brain aneurysm? This
• 21:45
Speaker 1: is just the luck of the draw.
• 21:48
Speaker 4: Yeah, so how do you eate a brain mridge? I
• 21:51
Speaker 4: was born with a weakness in my arteries. That's hereditary.
• 21:57
Speaker 4: That Like if I were have a baby, I be
• 22:00
Speaker 4: like get that baby in an MRI machine immediately so
• 22:03
Speaker 4: I can see if Yeah.
• 22:04
Speaker 1: And do you have an avenue for a preventative, like
• 22:06
Speaker 1: like is this is something like that you can help
• 22:08
Speaker 1: do certain things to prevent.
• 22:10
  Speaker 4: I mean, don't take drugs, don't do stuff that's going
• 22:14
Speaker 4: to raise your blood pressure, but essentially don't work too hard,
• 22:17
Speaker 4: I know, right, which is the same thing. Honestly, there's nothing.
• 22:21
  Speaker 4: There's there's like, I'm in a very good spot. I
• 22:23
Speaker 4: get my brain scanned every year. I'm I'm in the
• 22:27
Speaker 4: like not point not onet percent of people who survive
• 22:30
Speaker 4: what I've had without any real repercussions.
• 22:33
Speaker 2: Oh, I'm so glad to hear that. I'm so glad
• 22:35
  Speaker 2: to hear that.
• 22:36
Speaker 1: When you were talking about that publicly a couple of
• 22:37
Speaker 1: years ago, I was like, wait what, Yeah, oh my god,
• 22:40
Speaker 1: I'm working through that. And I mean, honestly, actors put
• 22:43
Speaker 1: up with more shit than anybody else, Like actors work
• 22:45
Speaker 1: through sickness, and I mean I know from my I'm
• 22:49
Speaker 1: not an actor, I'm a comedian, but I worked through
• 22:51
Speaker 1: every We act like we're saving lives, like I work
• 22:54
Speaker 1: through any sort of anything.
• 22:56
  Speaker 2: I know.
• 22:57
Speaker 4: It was such a shock because it was the first
• 22:59
Speaker 4: time I'd ever ever ever had anyone on any set
• 23:03
Speaker 4: be like, you're not well, do you need to come
• 23:06
Speaker 4: in You don't have to work today? Yeah, brain images,
• 23:09
Speaker 4: broken roads, broken hips. I did a whole job without
• 23:12
Speaker 4: realizing I've broken my hip. The show must go on.
• 23:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's apparently the show must go on.
• 23:17
Speaker 1: So what is an ideal day off like for you,
• 23:20
Speaker 1: like Dale had your druthers and you have nothing to
• 23:22
Speaker 1: do and nothing scheduled.
• 23:23
Speaker 2: What would it look like?
• 23:24
Speaker 4: Okay, so it would look like seeing friends. It would
• 23:28
Speaker 4: look like going for a very lovely dinner. It would
• 23:31
Speaker 4: look like get the papers, read my books, go for walks,
• 23:35
  Speaker 4: go out.
• 23:36
Speaker 2: Are you a big book reader? Theater?
• 23:38
  Speaker 4: I'm a massive reader. Yeah.
• 23:39
Speaker 2: What's the last book that you've read that you loved.
• 23:41
Speaker 4: That I loved? I went, I did the whole of
• 23:44
Speaker 4: the book a prize list. I'm a nerd, and my
• 23:48
Speaker 4: favorite one on that was this book called Sea Scrapper
• 23:51
Speaker 4: by Benjamin Wood. It's only itty bitdy, it's tiny, and
• 23:54
  Speaker 4: it's incredible.
• 23:55
  Speaker 2: Oh thank you.
• 23:56
Speaker 1: We like recommendation, book recommendations for our audience their readers. Now,
• 24:01
Speaker 1: I like that you have a life hack. You talk
• 24:03
Speaker 1: about flipping nervousness into confidence. I feel like this is
• 24:06
Speaker 1: something I can relate to. So can you speak a
• 24:08
Speaker 1: little bit about that, Because it's not being fearless, it's
• 24:11
Speaker 1: facing its face. It's facing fear right.
• 24:15
Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, it's kind of realizing that that same energy
• 24:18
Speaker 4: that you're experiencing is excitement in disguise. So like, you
• 24:25
Speaker 4: know those nerves. I'm sure you don't. You're too good
• 24:28
Speaker 4: to get nerves before going on stage, to get nerves
• 24:31
Speaker 4: before like doing your work. But I definitely still get them.
• 24:35
Speaker 4: Or even just like I don't know, you're going to
• 24:38
Speaker 4: a dinner and you know one person and you're like, fuck,
• 24:40
Speaker 4: this is I'm out of my comfort zone. It's the
• 24:43
Speaker 4: same like energy frequency as excitement. You've just got adrenaline.
• 24:47
Speaker 4: You've just got like excess adrenaline, which is all that
• 24:49
Speaker 4: is is your body telling you that you're a ready
• 24:52
Speaker 4: and prepared for anything and that you care kind of
• 24:55
Speaker 4: and that you care. Yeah, although sometimes me thinking that
• 24:59
Speaker 4: I care can turned into like that that ends up
• 25:01
Speaker 4: being the thing of like carrying too much.
• 25:02
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I know, well I had myself. My therapist
• 25:05
Speaker 1: put it to me one way. He's like, you know,
• 25:07
Speaker 1: if you're nervous, that means you care. And I was like, oh,
• 25:09
Speaker 1: I had never thought about that. I was always in
• 25:11
Speaker 1: my younger years, was always trying to fast forward the
• 25:14
Speaker 1: like if I had the fear, it was like no, no,
• 25:16
Speaker 1: I'm okay, Like you know, to just try and kind
• 25:19
Speaker 1: of put a shield around it and be like I'm
• 25:21
Speaker 1: just going to power through this instead of I think
• 25:24
Speaker 1: it's really important now as I'm older to acknowledge the
• 25:27
Speaker 1: fear and embrace it, because it just it means you care.
• 25:30
Speaker 1: And it's not fear, Like nervousness isn't fear. It's excitement.
• 25:34
Speaker 1: It doesn't mean like you're going to fail. It means
• 25:36
Speaker 1: you're excited to get out there and that you care
• 25:38
Speaker 1: about what you're about to do.
• 25:40
Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely no. I think it's Yeah, how do
• 25:44
Speaker 4: you channel your energy? How do some of us? Someone
• 25:46
Speaker 4: once said, how do you get your butterflies flying? In formation?
• 25:49
Speaker 2: Yeah? What do you remember the most nervous you've ever been?
• 25:54
  Speaker 4: It's always before I sing. I remember I did it.
• 25:57
Speaker 4: I sung at Carnegie Hall for Richard that place leaving
• 26:03
Speaker 4: do of HBO, and he asked me to sing a song.
• 26:06
Speaker 2: And I was like, what, like, oh, like all these
• 26:12
Speaker 2: oh yeah people, you.
• 26:16
  Speaker 4: Your famous people?
• 26:18
  Speaker 2: What the fuck?
• 26:19
Speaker 4: But anytime I have to sing, like I did this
• 26:21
Speaker 4: movie that's gonna come out maybe at some point this year,
• 26:24
Speaker 4: and I was a singer in that, And anytime I
• 26:28
Speaker 4: have to sing publicly, it's fear like I'm gonna throw up,
• 26:32
Speaker 4: like I'm gonna like I'm I'm in the wings being
• 26:35
Speaker 4: like I'm just gonna go. I'm just gonna I'm just
• 26:37
Speaker 4: gonna I'm gonna leave. Yeah, and you'll fin and it'll
• 26:40
Speaker 4: be fine because you'll have missed this terrible car crash
• 26:42
Speaker 4: that's about to happen.
• 26:43
Speaker 1: I like that. I like that. It's good to know.
• 26:45
Speaker 1: It's good to know. I mean, I could imagine. Yeah,
• 26:48
Speaker 1: you whatever your main gig is, you're like, Okay, I'm
• 26:50
Speaker 1: good with this, but any side hustle you're like, oh god.
• 26:54
Speaker 4: I haven't got my ten thousand hours.
• 26:56
Speaker 1: You're not so secretive about other actors that you're obsessed with,
• 26:59
Speaker 1: Like who is your Who are you crushing on now?
• 27:02
  Speaker 2: Man? Woman? Actor?
• 27:03
  Speaker 4: Like?
• 27:03
Speaker 2: Who are you into right now?
• 27:06
Speaker 4: Who am I into? Halelu motherfucking Richardson?
• 27:11
  Speaker 2: Yeah, totally.
• 27:13
Speaker 4: Who do I love right now? I mean Jesse Bucky Forever.
• 27:16
Speaker 4: She's my number one, Yeah, my number one movie.
• 27:18
Speaker 2: That was one of my favorite books too. Did you
• 27:20
  Speaker 2: read Hamnet?
• 27:21
Speaker 4: I did, Yes, that was a beautiful, beautiful book.
• 27:24
Speaker 2: And she's so fun to watch win, you know.
• 27:26
Speaker 4: Yes, And then also I do have to say the
• 27:32
Speaker 4: joy of saying. Gwyneth paltrowgan, yeah, I haven't. I'm like,
• 27:38
  Speaker 4: Gwinny's back, I know, I know.
• 27:40
Speaker 1: And you know what's so funny, I was like, what
• 27:42
Speaker 1: if you know what? You have been talking about vaginas.
• 27:44
Speaker 1: You have been selling us vagina goodies. You have been
• 27:47
Speaker 1: interviewing people about sex. It's about time we got to
• 27:50
Speaker 1: see you have sex. We need to see you more
• 27:53
Speaker 1: having more sex. In my opinion, she needs to keep
• 27:55
Speaker 1: her clothes off on camera. Agree, or the benefit of
• 27:58
Speaker 1: the rest of us, because she she took a big
• 28:00
Speaker 1: break and now she's back and she needs to fully
• 28:03
  Speaker 1: just release.
• 28:04
Speaker 4: Yes and I see you have sex with young men.
• 28:07
Speaker 2: On camera, all of us. Please message received.
• 28:13
Speaker 1: Okay, So we're going to take a break and we're
• 28:15
Speaker 1: going to be right back with Amelia Clark.
• 28:17
Speaker 2: And we're back with Amelia Clark. Okay.
• 28:24
Speaker 1: So now we're going to segue into the part of
• 28:26
Speaker 1: the show where we take some callers. They call in
• 28:28
Speaker 1: for life advice and then we just give it to
• 28:30
  Speaker 1: them straight.
• 28:30
  Speaker 4: I'm god amazing.
• 28:32
  Speaker 2: All right.
• 28:32
Speaker 3: Our first question comes from Eduardo. The subject line is Chelsea,
• 28:36
Speaker 3: please tell me why my boyfriend's mattress has no sheets.
• 28:40
Speaker 3: Dear Chelsea, I'm writing because I think I'm starting to
• 28:43
Speaker 3: lose my patience and maybe myself in my relationship. I've
• 28:46
Speaker 3: been dating someone for a little over a year. We
• 28:48
Speaker 3: don't live together, but whenever I go stay at his place,
• 28:51
Speaker 3: it somehow turns into a cleaning weekend. I end up
• 28:54
Speaker 3: washing his dishes, throwing away leftovers he's forgotten in the fridge,
• 28:57
Speaker 3: kitchen or table, tidy his bed, and trying to make
• 29:01
Speaker 3: the place feel halfway livable. Meanwhile, he just doesn't seem
• 29:05
Speaker 3: to care. It's not like I'm obsessed with cleaning.
• 29:07
  Speaker 2: I'm really not.
• 29:08
Speaker 3: But for example, when he buys vegetables, he just puts
• 29:11
Speaker 3: them in the fridge with actual dirt still on them.
• 29:13
Speaker 3: He buys too much food, it goes bad, and he
• 29:15
Speaker 3: doesn't even bother to throw it out. It's like living
• 29:18
Speaker 3: in a low budget science experiment. We've already talked about
• 29:21
Speaker 3: this more than once, but nothing changes. It's reached the
• 29:24
Speaker 3: point where every time he invites me over on my
• 29:26
Speaker 3: day off, I feel this mix of discomfort and low
• 29:29
Speaker 3: key anger, like I'm going to visit my boyfriend, but
• 29:31
Speaker 3: I'll be doing chores. I've even caught myself telling him
• 29:34
Speaker 3: the kitchen must be clean or I won't cook like
• 29:36
Speaker 3: I'm his mother, and that makes me feel kind of awful.
• 29:40
Speaker 3: Last week, I noticed his sheets were really dirty, so
• 29:42
Speaker 3: I took them off and put them in the washer
• 29:44
Speaker 3: before I left. Six days later, when I came back
• 29:47
Speaker 3: to spend my weekend off with him, the mattress was
• 29:50
Speaker 3: still bare. He had been sleeping on a blanket I'd
• 29:53
Speaker 3: left on the bed, just waiting for the sheets.
• 29:55
Speaker 2: To dry for six days.
• 29:57
Speaker 3: As soon as I saw the bed, I felt tired
• 29:59
Speaker 3: already and on just wanted to go back home. The
• 30:02
Speaker 3: real problem is that when I try to talk about
• 30:04
Speaker 3: how I feel about the mess, he tends to dismiss
• 30:06
Speaker 3: it or make a joke. I want to be with
• 30:08
Speaker 3: someone I can grow with, not someone I have to parent.
• 30:10
Speaker 3: So Chelsea, what do you think? Am I overreacting? Or
• 30:13
Speaker 3: is this the Universe's way of telling me it's time
• 30:15
Speaker 3: to clean up more than just his kitchen With love
• 30:18
Speaker 3: and a pair of dish gloves from Buenos airis Eduardo?
• 30:21
Speaker 2: Okay, EDWARDO, it's a wrap on this. First of all, there.
• 30:26
Speaker 1: Is nothing grosser than when men do not know how
• 30:29
Speaker 1: to be hygienic in their own place. I had a
• 30:32
Speaker 1: girlfriend that was dealing with this. She was my girlfriend
• 30:35
Speaker 1: was dealing with a guy she had a long distance relationship.
• 30:38
Speaker 2: And she went to his house. It was the same situation.
• 30:40
Speaker 1: She said she was so grossed out by the way
• 30:42
Speaker 1: he lived and how unkempt he was, Like how he
• 30:44
Speaker 1: would you know, like the kitchen and the sheets. It's
• 30:47
Speaker 1: a real sign of someone's personality when they can't figure
• 30:50
Speaker 1: out how to adult and grow up, you know what
• 30:52
Speaker 1: I mean. Like, it's a real sign of like and
• 30:54
Speaker 1: then bringing it to their attention that should be one
• 30:57
Speaker 1: and done conversation, Like if they're interested in maintaining this relationship,
• 31:01
Speaker 1: and that's important to you. The hygiene of their house
• 31:04
Speaker 1: where you're spending time not taking sheets out of a
• 31:06
Speaker 1: dryer or a washer for six days is disgusting because
• 31:10
Speaker 1: the mattress as an adult is disgusting. So like, it's
• 31:15
Speaker 1: not going to change if you're you have to decide
• 31:18
Speaker 1: if this is a deal breaker.
• 31:19
Speaker 2: It would be for me. It would totally be a
• 31:21
Speaker 2: deal breaker for me.
• 31:22
Speaker 1: I mean, I've never been with someone gross like that,
• 31:24
Speaker 1: but I mean, men are men could be gross, but
• 31:26
Speaker 1: this is a gay man.
• 31:27
  Speaker 2: It sounds like.
• 31:30
Speaker 3: I was shocked to see Eduardo at the end of this.
• 31:32
Speaker 3: I'm like, you would expect this from a straight yet not.
• 31:34
Speaker 1: Expect this from like a hetero man, not a gay man.
• 31:36
Speaker 1: So yeah, but there's exceptions to all rules. But I mean,
• 31:39
Speaker 1: I don't know, Amelia, what do you think would you
• 31:41
Speaker 1: be down to party with.
• 31:45
  Speaker 5: Kidding?
• 31:45
Speaker 4: No, absolutely categorical not the dumb sheets on the bed.
• 31:49
Speaker 4: If you don't know how to take care of yourself,
• 31:51
Speaker 4: how on earth are you going to take.
• 31:53
  Speaker 2: Care of me?
• 31:53
Speaker 1: Like right, there you go, there we go, period, end
• 31:57
Speaker 1: of story. But also grows also buying vegetables and then
• 32:02
Speaker 1: not rinsing them off in the sink, like even I
• 32:04
  Speaker 1: know about that?
• 32:05
Speaker 2: Like that that is so ridiculous. All of it is
• 32:07
Speaker 2: just kind of an ick.
• 32:09
Speaker 4: Yeah, nobody. Also, it just speaks to like a bigger
• 32:12
Speaker 4: thing of this man clearly doesn't think much of himself
• 32:15
Speaker 4: and isn't like right, he doesn't sound like he knows
• 32:19
Speaker 4: what's up with him. So how would how would earth
• 32:22
Speaker 4: could you trust your happiness and yourself and your romance?
• 32:26
  Speaker 2: What like this?
• 32:27
Speaker 4: You're like, yeah, having sexual relations on a mattress with
• 32:31
Speaker 4: no shoe. Yeah, yeah, exactly, all of it and that
• 32:34
Speaker 4: it's making me really deeply uncomfortable. Gorgeous man needs to
• 32:37
Speaker 4: get out of this like yesterday.
• 32:39
Speaker 1: Also, you should only have to have one conversation about
• 32:42
Speaker 1: a serious topic in your relationship. In my humble opinion,
• 32:45
Speaker 1: you should have one serious conversation about something that's important
• 32:47
Speaker 1: to you. And if that person isn't receptive and makes
• 32:49
Speaker 1: changes knowing how important it is to you, then then
• 32:52
Speaker 1: it's a moot point. There's no point to discuss it
• 32:54
Speaker 1: over and over at infinitum.
• 32:56
Speaker 2: And that's and that's the end of that story. What
• 32:58
Speaker 2: do we what's next? Catherine?
• 33:01
Speaker 3: Okay, Well, our first caller today is Jared, and Jared says,
• 33:05
Speaker 3: ten years ago, I moved my queer black ass from
• 33:08
Speaker 3: the East Coast to San Diego to get sober.
• 33:11
Speaker 2: Then two years ago I.
• 33:12
Speaker 3: Moved to La to be in a more creative and
• 33:14
Speaker 3: cosmopolitan scene. I had a remote job, but that ended
• 33:17
Speaker 3: a little over a year ago. I spent the last
• 33:19
Speaker 3: year taking every possible action to earn an income, but
• 33:22
Speaker 3: I cannot get hired to save my life. It's almost comical.
• 33:25
  Speaker 2: At this point.
• 33:26
Speaker 3: I got snubbed for a job begging groceries a trader Joe's.
• 33:29
Speaker 3: My car is busted and not eligible to drive uber.
• 33:31
Speaker 3: I'm one hundred percent pro sex work, but I don't
• 33:33
Speaker 3: think my forty three year old stock would command a
• 33:36
Speaker 3: livable wage. My retirement is gone. That old bourbon and
• 33:39
Speaker 3: cocaine habit wasn't exactly four roh one k friendly, and
• 33:42
Speaker 3: there's no secret family money. And I'm in a program
• 33:44
  Speaker 3: to help.
• 33:44
  Speaker 2: Me earn effectively.
• 33:45
Speaker 3: Throughout all this, losing the job, losing my dog, the
• 33:48
Speaker 3: space away from boring dust jobs, I've seen my little
• 33:51
Speaker 3: creative queen come out of herschell. I can't believe all
• 33:54
Speaker 3: the talent and joy I suppressed for so many years,
• 33:57
Speaker 3: especially writing and performing. To say it, Chelsea, but I
• 34:01
Speaker 3: want to learn to be a comedy writer and maybe
• 34:03
Speaker 3: do stand up. I know I can't just start doing
• 34:05
Speaker 3: open mics and expect to pay rent. And even though
• 34:08
Speaker 3: I'm still applying to big boy office jobs, I don't
• 34:10
Speaker 3: want to stifle my creativity again. Now Here, I am
• 34:13
Speaker 3: mid forties, broke, embarrassed that I want to start over
• 34:16
Speaker 3: as a comedian while my peers are buying vacation homes,
• 34:19
Speaker 3: living off alimony, and sending kids to college. So Chelsea,
• 34:22
Speaker 3: how do I balance getting out of financial and emotional
• 34:25
Speaker 3: survival mode while also trying to enter a new industry.
• 34:28
Speaker 2: I didn't move to La to be.
• 34:29
Speaker 3: In quote unquote Hollywood yuck, but I did move to
• 34:32
Speaker 3: be more of myself. I've always been told I have
• 34:34
Speaker 3: a special talent and energy, and that I should get
• 34:37
Speaker 3: hired just to be myself. I just don't know what
• 34:39
Speaker 3: to do in order to get the ball rolling and
• 34:41
Speaker 3: not end up evicted or in another soulless job in
• 34:44
  Speaker 3: the process.
• 34:45
Speaker 2: Am I too old to start over? Chelsea? What do
• 34:47
  Speaker 2: I need to.
• 34:47
Speaker 3: Do to be strong and confident to make a living
• 34:50
Speaker 3: spreading light and making others feel better? Sincerely, Jared, Hi,
• 34:54
  Speaker 3: Jared think Chelsea.
• 34:56
  Speaker 2: Hi, Hi Jared.
• 34:57
Speaker 1: This is our special guest, Amelia Clarke is here today.
• 35:00
  Speaker 4: Hi.
• 35:01
Speaker 5: Great to see you all.
• 35:02
Speaker 2: Oh, great to see you well.
• 35:05
Speaker 1: I mean, first of all, a couple things like this
• 35:07
Speaker 1: is happy that you are. Your letter says a lot
• 35:10
Speaker 1: of things. It says like you're in a transitional period
• 35:12
Speaker 1: in your life. You're also like you're broke and you're
• 35:16
Speaker 1: out of work. But while that could be, you're like
• 35:19
Speaker 1: the lowest point for many people, you're also discovering that
• 35:22
Speaker 1: you have some other like creative outlets that you want
• 35:24
Speaker 1: to explore, and I think that's a great thing.
• 35:26
Speaker 2: I think you need to focus on getting a job.
• 35:28
Speaker 1: We need to get you a job so you have
• 35:30
Speaker 1: money coming in so you can pay your rent, and
• 35:32
Speaker 1: then comedies at nighttime, so don't they don't have to
• 35:35
Speaker 1: preclude each other like you can't. You can do both
• 35:37
Speaker 1: of those things, you know what I mean. You need
• 35:39
Speaker 1: to be financially stable. That's the most that's the main
• 35:42
Speaker 1: priority I think for you right now. So we need
• 35:44
Speaker 1: to get you a job, and then once you're like
• 35:47
Speaker 1: situated in that, then you could spend your time going
• 35:49
Speaker 1: to open mics and exploring all of this stand up.
• 35:51
Speaker 1: You know, stand up's not going anywhere, so and I
• 35:54
Speaker 1: wouldn't worry about what age you are, Like people rediscover
• 35:57
Speaker 1: themselves throughout their entire lives. There's no age, don't you
• 36:00
Speaker 1: you agree, Amelia, There's no expiration.
• 36:02
Speaker 2: Date of when you can become something or start anew.
• 36:04
Speaker 1: I think the most important thing is to recognize that
• 36:08
Speaker 1: you do have that desire and Okay, now you're going
• 36:11
Speaker 1: to make a plan forward. Like the job, it's for sustainability,
• 36:15
Speaker 1: and like your support it's not to give you everything
• 36:17
Speaker 1: in life, because you're going to go look for that
• 36:19
Speaker 1: with comedy and other places.
• 36:21
Speaker 2: So I think that makes it easier.
• 36:22
Speaker 1: Probably to kind of look for more a broader spectrum
• 36:27
Speaker 1: of jobs than maybe you were looking for initially.
• 36:29
Speaker 5: That's awesome. Yeah, keeping an open mind for sure, comedies
• 36:33
Speaker 5: at night, that's a great reminder all the nighttime. It's
• 36:37
  Speaker 5: hard for me.
• 36:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, nobody's doing comedy in the morning, so don't worry
• 36:40
Speaker 1: about that. You're not missing out during the day.
• 36:42
  Speaker 2: Perfect.
• 36:43
Speaker 3: Yeah, and Jared, I know when I was in a
• 36:46
Speaker 3: similar situation, like before I got into podcasting, I was
• 36:50
Speaker 3: sort of like, Okay, I'm going for these marketing gigs.
• 36:52
Speaker 3: It's like quote unquote what I know how to do,
• 36:54
Speaker 3: even though I was already like doing podcasting on the side.
• 36:57
Speaker 3: And finally I was just like, fuck it, I'm going
• 37:00
Speaker 3: to go after the jobs that are like actually in
• 37:02
Speaker 3: the field I want to be in, rather than sort
• 37:04
Speaker 3: of selling myself short going for these other things and
• 37:06
Speaker 3: like it might be an entry level thing, but at
• 37:08
Speaker 3: the same time, like I would set yourself up for
• 37:11
Speaker 3: success and start moving toward even if it's like super
• 37:14
Speaker 3: super entry level or something really part time, like just
• 37:17
Speaker 3: see what's out there in where you want to be.
• 37:20
Speaker 5: Yeah, I've been doing assistant work and actually sober coach
• 37:24
Speaker 5: companion work, which is really fulfilling and I think I'm
• 37:27
Speaker 5: good at it. It's kind of sporadic, but absolutely, you're
• 37:31
Speaker 5: right getting stable. I also feel like this is like
• 37:35
Speaker 5: the exact territory I need to be in to create
• 37:38
Speaker 5: some great, actual real comedy. Like it's funny.
• 37:41
Speaker 2: Yeah, and also sober coaching is also funny.
• 37:44
Speaker 1: The things that you have to do and like, and
• 37:46
Speaker 1: that's actually great, Like that's a nice like little panoply
• 37:49
Speaker 1: of things you have. Like you need a job you
• 37:51
Speaker 1: can do sober coaching. Does that pay sober coaching or
• 37:53
Speaker 1: is that just kind of voluntary? Oh it does really well?
• 37:56
Speaker 4: Yeah? Oh great, oh great?
• 37:58
Speaker 2: Oh family answered your own problem, Amelia.
• 38:02
Speaker 3: Was there anything that you did when you were like
• 38:04
Speaker 3: working in catering or whatever else to sort of make
• 38:07
Speaker 3: sure that you were working on your craft all of
• 38:10
Speaker 3: the time or not letting sort of that creative spark die.
• 38:14
Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean I think, first all, Jared, congratulations on
• 38:17
Speaker 4: the incredible work you've done on yourself. That is more
• 38:20
Speaker 4: than a lot of people. I think that should be
• 38:22
Speaker 4: like remarkable, absolutely brilliant and amazing that you know very
• 38:27
Speaker 4: clearly the kind of creative work that you want to do.
• 38:30
Speaker 4: But I think just because you know that you want
• 38:32
Speaker 4: to do comedy doesn't mean that you can't do all
• 38:35
Speaker 4: the other creative things as well in any ways that
• 38:39
Speaker 4: they might move you, because that's just gonna I know
• 38:42
Speaker 4: that when I was doing nine jobs and then like
• 38:46
Speaker 4: post drama school, pre drama school or whatever, and you're like,
• 38:49
Speaker 4: the goal is this thing, and then everything else around
• 38:52
Speaker 4: it just kind of sucks in comparison because I'm just
• 38:54
Speaker 4: trying to pay my rent. And I think that so
• 38:57
Speaker 4: then if whatever other create avenues, you can explore for
• 39:02
Speaker 4: fun without any pressure, without any like this is what
• 39:06
Speaker 4: I have to do with the rest of my life.
• 39:07
Speaker 4: This is you know, whether you're like something arty or
• 39:11
Speaker 4: something musical or something you know in the kitchen or whatever,
• 39:15
Speaker 4: it is to make sure that your soul is still
• 39:19
Speaker 4: being fulfilled, because I know that when I worked at
• 39:22
Speaker 4: a call center and a bar, I got depressed.
• 39:24
  Speaker 2: I got sad.
• 39:25
Speaker 4: I got really really sad, like where you're like, I'm
• 39:28
Speaker 4: doing the job thing, but I get to do none
• 39:31
Speaker 4: of the other stuff, right, I'm not missing out because
• 39:35
Speaker 4: I'm not getting paid to do this other stuff that
• 39:37
Speaker 4: I've decided that's what my career is going to be.
• 39:39
Speaker 4: Then everything else sort of pales into comparison. So I think,
• 39:42
Speaker 4: whatever are the ways you can do to make sure
• 39:45
Speaker 4: that your joy bucket is still being you know, full?
• 39:50
Speaker 1: Yeah, and don't think of anything as like as permanent,
• 39:53
Speaker 1: you know what I mean? You kind of have to
• 39:54
Speaker 1: like we always get this idea of like the final
• 39:57
Speaker 1: like we don't think like I remember when I waited
• 39:59
Speaker 1: tables for like ten years or seven years. I felt
• 40:02
Speaker 1: like ten but like I just wanted my life to
• 40:05
Speaker 1: begin like that. I was like, this isn't my life. Meanwhile,
• 40:07
Speaker 1: that was my life, Like that was my life during
• 40:10
Speaker 1: that time. But I didn't think my life began until
• 40:12
Speaker 1: I started to have some success, and I kind of
• 40:15
Speaker 1: like I didn't miss those moments, but I miss knowing
• 40:18
Speaker 1: that this wasn't forever either, Like I was so impatient
• 40:21
Speaker 1: about getting where I wanted to go that it's really
• 40:24
Speaker 1: important to remember the ride is as important as a destination,
• 40:28
Speaker 1: like what you do to get there, and knowing that
• 40:30
Speaker 1: you're not going to be doing anything forever permanently you
• 40:33
Speaker 1: know what I mean, or a situation you're in is
• 40:35
Speaker 1: never going to be permanent. So to know like you're
• 40:38
Speaker 1: working towards something and while you're working towards that, to
• 40:42
Speaker 1: enjoy all of the things that go with it awesome.
• 40:44
Speaker 4: Yeah. And then also what does success in comedy look like?
• 40:48
Speaker 4: Because you know that fame isn't real, right, it isn't
• 40:54
Speaker 4: understanding Okay, on a day basis, what would success feel
• 40:58
Speaker 4: like being in doing the thing that you love to
• 41:01
Speaker 4: do without having the like in order to yeah, you
• 41:06
Speaker 4: know be because it's just it's not it's not you know,
• 41:11
Speaker 4: always the nicest experience. And exactly is Chelsea was saying
• 41:16
Speaker 4: the bits on the way there. That's the fun, that's
• 41:18
Speaker 4: the good time, that's the like, Chelsea, do you agree
• 41:21
Speaker 4: with me or no?
• 41:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, well I know you You actually have a great
• 41:24
Speaker 1: quote about that, Amelia where you talk about like getting
• 41:27
Speaker 1: what you need out of the work right and your
• 41:29
Speaker 1: you know, your reviews don't matter.
• 41:31
Speaker 2: It's actually like what you what are you getting out of?
• 41:34
Speaker 2: What are you doing?
• 41:35
Speaker 1: Because we always there's like, yeah, we have this kind
• 41:38
Speaker 1: of success system, which means we're noticed, we're famous or successful,
• 41:43
Speaker 1: and that's not the measure of success.
• 41:45
  Speaker 2: That's kind of it's illusory.
• 41:47
Speaker 1: And it's not real, like Amelia saying, even though it looks,
• 41:50
Speaker 1: you know, from the outside, it can look like that's
• 41:53
Speaker 1: what you want to attain, but it's really much more
• 41:56
Speaker 1: full bodied than that.
• 41:59
Speaker 5: Yeah, connecting with people, making them laugh, share.
• 42:01
Speaker 1: Writing joys, barn humor, you know, making sure you're like yeah,
• 42:05
Speaker 1: and you seem like you have a very high spirit,
• 42:07
Speaker 1: like you're on a nice high frequency. So like make
• 42:10
Speaker 1: sure you're bringing that, you know, with everything you do,
• 42:14
Speaker 1: and then it kind of all blends together. I know,
• 42:16
Speaker 1: my life blends together, my professional and my private all
• 42:18
Speaker 1: of it's kind of like, yeah, I'll watch together because
• 42:20
Speaker 1: that's the kind of vibe I want to have. Is like, yeah,
• 42:24
Speaker 1: I'm not you know, I don't take it too seriously.
• 42:26
Speaker 1: I'm not precious about my work. I'm like just truthful
• 42:29
Speaker 1: and honest, and I know that's my kind of thing.
• 42:31
Speaker 1: Like I'm gonna say it like it is, and that's
• 42:34
Speaker 1: what people like about me, and I like that about myself.
• 42:37
Speaker 1: So it's like just being very authentic to who you
• 42:39
Speaker 1: are in the process, I think is and Amelia, that's
• 42:42
Speaker 1: something that you know, I could recognize in you too,
• 42:44
Speaker 1: you know, like what you're bringing to all of these
• 42:46
Speaker 1: different roles and especially even in this last show she's
• 42:49
Speaker 1: she's on here to promote a new show called Ponies,
• 42:51
Speaker 1: which is on Peacock. It's just like I can see
• 42:55
Speaker 1: the humanity in you and everything that you do. And
• 42:57
Speaker 1: I would say that that is something to aim for
• 43:00
Speaker 1: as as a creative, to be as authentic as you
• 43:02
Speaker 1: can in every endeavor and that includes the shit you
• 43:05
Speaker 1: don't like to do.
• 43:06
Speaker 2: Also, yeah then yeah, okay, well good luck to you,
• 43:11
Speaker 2: so happy, so much awesome, Thanks Jared, Jared.
• 43:18
Speaker 1: It's so true what you said about fame amilia because
• 43:20
Speaker 1: you know, like as a famous.
• 43:22
Speaker 2: Person, you I know that that's not real.
• 43:25
Speaker 1: But you people that are aspiring to be in it
• 43:29
Speaker 1: in this industry, that's what they think.
• 43:31
Speaker 2: Then that is the success.
• 43:33
Speaker 4: Yes, And it's like the thing I always say is
• 43:35
Speaker 4: it's vapor. It doesn't exist. You can't hold onto it,
• 43:38
Speaker 4: you can't define it, you can't like because whatever fame
• 43:41
Speaker 4: brings you on Monday, it's going to take away on Tuesday.
• 43:44
  Speaker 4: You don't you know what I mean? Like you're you're
• 43:46
Speaker 4: the flavor of the months for a second, and then
• 43:48
Speaker 4: you're not or then like you know, you don't do
• 43:50
Speaker 4: a bunch of stuff and people don't recognize you much,
• 43:52
Speaker 4: and then you do, and then you'll suddenly back in
• 43:54
Speaker 4: it and you'll it just all it goes to show
• 43:56
Speaker 4: is like it does, doesn't It's not real. It's not
• 43:59
Speaker 4: like Yeah, these when like young people come up to
• 44:03
Speaker 4: me and you know, they want to be an actor
• 44:04
Speaker 4: or whatever. My first thing is always, can you think
• 44:07
Speaker 4: of anything else that you can do?
• 44:10
  Speaker 2: Because pointed it.
• 44:13
Speaker 4: Do that, because if there's anything else you can do,
• 44:17
Speaker 4: it has to be the only thing you can do
• 44:20
Speaker 4: to commit to like levels of failure, the level of like.
• 44:23
Speaker 1: The rejection, the rejection and the failure and the rejection.
• 44:27
Speaker 1: Even when you're successful, you're like wait what You're like,
• 44:30
Speaker 1: how did that happen?
• 44:31
Speaker 4: Exactly? Like this's the same thing, but the goalposts just
• 44:33
Speaker 4: keep moving, they move with you.
• 44:35
Speaker 1: What was it like for you when you realized that
• 44:37
Speaker 1: Game of Thrones when it hit the way it hit
• 44:40
Speaker 1: and you realize how famous all of you guys had become?
• 44:43
Speaker 1: What how did that? Was that a mind fuck at
• 44:45
Speaker 1: all for you? Or how did you handle that?
• 44:48
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 44:48
Speaker 4: So I had I had a slow build into it
• 44:51
Speaker 4: because I was not blonde, so I was unrecognizable for
• 44:54
Speaker 4: the first like three three foot like for the first
• 44:56
Speaker 4: like three to four seasons, I'd be walking down on
• 45:00
Speaker 4: the street with Kit and people would be like, can
• 45:01
Speaker 4: you take off photo? As in, can I take the
• 45:03
Speaker 4: picture of them with Kit? I'm like, yeah, absolut blooding lately,
• 45:06
Speaker 4: I can you do it? And then stuff something flipped
• 45:10
Speaker 4: and I think I became recognizable for the hair color
• 45:13
Speaker 4: that I had or whatever it was. Anyway, So then
• 45:15
Speaker 4: as that started to progress, I used to just get
• 45:19
Speaker 4: panic attacks, like it really it like sucker punched me
• 45:22
Speaker 4: in a way that I like people. I like talking
• 45:27
Speaker 4: to people, I like meeting people, and fame stops that
• 45:30
Speaker 4: from happening. So I'm bummed hard. I was like, that's
• 45:33
Speaker 4: that's really annoying. That's really frustrating that Like sometimes I
• 45:37
Speaker 4: don't know if you find it. I'm a walking conversation stopper,
• 45:40
Speaker 4: not to a table of people. You know most of them,
• 45:42
Speaker 4: but not all of them, and they see you and
• 45:45
Speaker 4: you're like, whether or not they know me, like me
• 45:49
Speaker 4: seeing the work, whatever, it doesn't seem to matter. It's
• 45:52
Speaker 4: you're enough of like an oddity for everyone to be like, huh,
• 45:57
Speaker 4: well this changes things, and they're like, okay, I'll just
• 46:01
Speaker 4: work on I'll do you want to drink, I'll stay
• 46:03
  Speaker 4: at the ball.
• 46:04
Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like, I like that what
• 46:07
  Speaker 2: you're saying.
• 46:07
  Speaker 1: That's it's yeah, we don't talk about that a lot
• 46:10
Speaker 1: on this podcast. We don't talk about the actual act
• 46:12
Speaker 1: of being famous and what that is because it's so rare,
• 46:15
Speaker 1: I guess, and it's probably not that relatable to so
• 46:17
Speaker 1: many listeners because they're like, sorry, no, but it's insightful.
• 46:21
Speaker 1: I think it's insightful for people to know, because people do.
• 46:23
Speaker 1: I'm very regular and like, you know, people come up
• 46:26
Speaker 1: to me like they know me, and you know, they
• 46:28
Speaker 1: kind of do it because I'm not acting.
• 46:29
Speaker 2: I'm just kind of my own personality.
• 46:31
Speaker 1: But like the awkwardness, Like the things that people say
• 46:35
Speaker 1: are always like when people go my favorite thing is
• 46:38
Speaker 1: where do I know you from? As if we're going
• 46:40
Speaker 1: to sit there and list all of her credits, I'm like,
• 46:42
Speaker 1: well it could be from this or I'm or they go,
• 46:45
Speaker 1: I know you, who are you? I'm like, yeah, no,
• 46:48
Speaker 1: that's not how this is going to go with this conversation.
• 46:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, but they say make me feel.
• 46:53
Speaker 1: Yeah, I know you're famous. Let me take a picture.
• 46:55
Speaker 1: And I'm like, wait, no, you don't just get because
• 46:57
  Speaker 1: I'm famous.
• 46:58
Speaker 2: You don't even know who I am.
• 47:00
Speaker 1: But yeah, it's it's kind of I like to make
• 47:02
Speaker 1: it the least amount of awkward as I possibly can
• 47:04
Speaker 1: for people, but people can be incredibly awkward around famous people.
• 47:10
Speaker 4: Yes, But I suppose the reason for me to say
• 47:13
Speaker 4: it is that, like we still as a culture is
• 47:17
Speaker 4: still coveting fame, coveting success, coveting money, coveting all these
• 47:21
Speaker 4: like how everything looks. And I know this is enough
• 47:24
Speaker 4: people who've been speaking about this for enough time, But
• 47:28
Speaker 4: still the truth of it is not the aspirational thing.
• 47:35
Speaker 3: Yeah you know what I mean, Like, it's not what
• 47:37
Speaker 3: you think it's going to be before you get it
• 47:38
  Speaker 3: sort of thing.
• 47:39
Speaker 4: No. Yeah, there's like others, there's loads of other things
• 47:44
Speaker 4: that are more fun and more important.
• 47:45
  Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely.
• 47:47
Speaker 1: Okay, we're going to take a break and we'll be
• 47:48
Speaker 1: right back and we're going to wrap it up with
• 47:49
Speaker 1: our last color and we're back with the very delightful
• 47:57
Speaker 1: Amelia Clark. What do we have to close out our
• 48:00
Speaker 1: show our therapy session today?
• 48:01
  Speaker 2: Catherine?
• 48:02
Speaker 3: Okay, Well, Julia writes, Dear Chelsea, from the ages of
• 48:05
Speaker 3: twenty five to thirty, I was in a really tumultuous
• 48:08
  Speaker 3: on off relationship.
• 48:09
Speaker 2: Who was it? Hy Y.
• 48:14
Speaker 3: That's an extreme understatement, but he's not the reason I'm
• 48:17
Speaker 3: writing in. When I finally got out of that for good,
• 48:19
Speaker 3: I settled into being independent and single, Like a fish
• 48:22
Speaker 3: in water. I did things for myself, went to therapy,
• 48:25
Speaker 3: made changes in my life all for the better, and
• 48:28
Speaker 3: I did it all on my own. I was totally
• 48:30
Speaker 3: fulfilled for four years. A little over a year ago,
• 48:33
Speaker 3: my job went away thanks to a Republican takeover in
• 48:35
Speaker 3: my state. I moved across the country so I could
• 48:37
Speaker 3: keep working in my field and honestly for a fresh
• 48:39
Speaker 3: start in other ways too.
• 48:41
Speaker 2: I've settled into my new life.
• 48:42
Speaker 3: It's definitely been harder without a big network of friends,
• 48:45
Speaker 3: but I liked my job. I make more money, and
• 48:47
Speaker 3: I have made friends with a lot of my neighbors.
• 48:49
Speaker 3: We have a really nice little pot of people helping
• 48:51
Speaker 3: each other out with dogs, kids, yard work. We have
• 48:54
Speaker 3: group dinners, all very wholesome and lovely. One of those
• 48:57
Speaker 3: friends is my next door neighbor. We spent almost every
• 49:00
Speaker 3: night hanging out together, just chatting in the backyard. Eventually
• 49:03
Speaker 3: he told me he liked me, and I told him
• 49:05
Speaker 3: I liked him too. At first, I felt mad at
• 49:07
Speaker 3: him for ruining our backyard vibes, but when I stopped
• 49:10
Speaker 3: being thrown off balance, we started dating. It's been five months,
• 49:13
Speaker 3: and since we're on two sides of a duplex with
• 49:15
Speaker 3: a door in the middle, it's very much like a
• 49:17
Speaker 3: live in relationship. All these things that I thought were
• 49:20
Speaker 3: dead and buried for me, my sex drive, being cuddly, cooking,
• 49:23
Speaker 3: and watching TV with another person are all back with
• 49:25
Speaker 3: a vengeance. All of a sudden, I find myself thinking
• 49:28
Speaker 3: about him all the time, buying groceries that will make
• 49:31
Speaker 3: him happy, actually wanting to give him head, even doing
• 49:33
Speaker 3: his laundry. All my friends and family are thrilled that
• 49:36
Speaker 3: I'm in a couple and thriving. A lot of people
• 49:38
Speaker 3: had already met him as my neighbor slash bestie, so
• 49:40
Speaker 3: they're very happy with the turn of events. We also
• 49:43
Speaker 3: have a years with a friendship under our belt, so
• 49:44
Speaker 3: it really feels like we've got a big head start
• 49:46
Speaker 3: on the whole intimacy thing. But I can't help but
• 49:49
Speaker 3: feel like I'm losing something. It took me a long
• 49:51
Speaker 3: time to build my self sufficiency and independence. It's something
• 49:55
Speaker 3: that I've guarded fiercely for the past five years, and
• 49:57
Speaker 3: I feel like it's slipping away and less time than
• 49:59
Speaker 3: it takes me to commit to buying a NU lawn chair.
• 50:01
Speaker 3: He is nothing like the horrible X, But I don't
• 50:03
Speaker 3: want to lose myself in a relationship ever again. Should
• 50:06
Speaker 3: I just accept that this is going well and making
• 50:08
  Speaker 3: me happy?
• 50:09
Speaker 2: Or should I be freaking out?
• 50:11
Speaker 1: Why are you looking for problems where there are none.
• 50:13
Speaker 1: Your relationship that you had with that other guy is over.
• 50:16
Speaker 1: You're not repeating that same cycle. You've already learned your
• 50:18
Speaker 1: from your mistakes. I can tell by your letter you're
• 50:21
Speaker 1: in a good place. This is what we do as women.
• 50:24
Speaker 1: We question any sort of happiness that just lands at
• 50:27
Speaker 1: our feet and go, do I deserve this? Once the
• 50:29
Speaker 1: other shoe gonna drop? Am I gonna lose myself?
• 50:32
  Speaker 4: No?
• 50:32
  Speaker 1: You're not, honey, You're fine, You're good. You have a
• 50:35
Speaker 1: good thing going. You have a guy that lives across
• 50:38
Speaker 1: the fucking hall from you. This is the best possible
• 50:41
Speaker 1: case scenario. Just don't move in together and just keep
• 50:44
Speaker 1: the fucking good way flowing.
• 50:46
  Speaker 2: I love that.
• 50:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, igathering a good time, enjoy yourself.
• 50:50
Speaker 2: Guess what you deserve it.
• 50:52
Speaker 1: You deserve happiness, and you deserve to be in something
• 50:54
Speaker 1: and a healthy relationship. And that's what you get after
• 50:57
Speaker 1: being in bad relationships. We get gifted with the like
• 51:00
Speaker 1: the gift of wisdom, and then we start having good,
• 51:02
  Speaker 1: healthy relationships.
• 51:03
Speaker 2: I just started a new relationship too. I'm totally into it.
• 51:06
Speaker 2: I'm not questioning a thing about it.
• 51:08
Speaker 1: I'm like, this is this guy just dropped in my
• 51:10
Speaker 1: lap and it's totally unexpected on every level.
• 51:13
Speaker 2: And I'm like, good for me, good for me. I
• 51:16
  Speaker 2: deserve it.
• 51:18
  Speaker 1: Thank you?
• 51:18
Speaker 2: Got yeah right, Amelia, doesn't she deserve it?
• 51:22
Speaker 4: And you absolutely diserve it. A hundred. He deserve it,
• 51:25
Speaker 4: So do you, Chelsea.
• 51:28
Speaker 2: Und We all deserve it.
• 51:31
Speaker 1: We all deserve it. You should get up. You know
• 51:33
  Speaker 1: what's a good A good practice. I get up and
• 51:35
  Speaker 1: even when i'm if I'm in a great space, I
• 51:38
Speaker 1: still do it. I get up and I just write down.
• 51:40
Speaker 1: I have this little journal in my phone. It's like
• 51:41
Speaker 1: a gratitude journal, and I just get up and say
• 51:43
Speaker 1: thank you for this, thank you for this.
• 51:45
Speaker 2: I'm grateful for these seven things.
• 51:47
Speaker 1: It could be your dog, it can be your health,
• 51:49
Speaker 1: it can be whatever you're that you're gonna be on
• 51:51
Speaker 1: this podcast today or whatever it is. Just remind yourself
• 51:54
Speaker 1: that things are going well, and then that's good, and
• 51:57
Speaker 1: then that becomes a pattern even when things are shitty.
• 51:59
Speaker 1: If you can find five or six things to be
• 52:01
Speaker 1: grateful for every morning, you're kind of reminding yourself that
• 52:04
Speaker 1: you're on the right track. So just trust like that,
• 52:08
Speaker 1: you know the universe has your back. Just trust that
• 52:11
Speaker 1: because it's yeah true, No one's out to get you.
• 52:13
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 52:14
Speaker 4: The only other thing I'd say to add to it
• 52:16
Speaker 4: is that if only to just calm your brain to
• 52:20
Speaker 4: continue to do one or two of the things that
• 52:23
Speaker 4: you did as a single woman for you that doesn't
• 52:27
Speaker 4: include this beautiful man who's entered your life right so
• 52:31
Speaker 4: that you're in a lovely relationship, but you're also able
• 52:35
Speaker 4: to still go to the movies on your own, go
• 52:38
Speaker 4: do your shopping on your own, take a day just
• 52:40
Speaker 4: for yourself, be like, hey, babe, I no, I'm I know,
• 52:43
Speaker 4: you know, I'm right next door. We could hang out,
• 52:45
Speaker 4: but actually I just want to have a couple of
• 52:46
Speaker 4: hours to read on my own or whatever it is
• 52:49
Speaker 4: that you do and did love about being single, because
• 52:54
Speaker 4: I think that it can be As someone who's been
• 52:57
Speaker 4: single a bunch in my life, I think that it
• 52:59
Speaker 4: can can be very hard to give it up because
• 53:02
Speaker 4: it feels so like I got myself together, like this
• 53:06
Speaker 4: is yeah, this is my space, my time, I get
• 53:09
Speaker 4: to decide all of these wonderful things and so yeah,
• 53:12
Speaker 4: when then when the guy does come, then you're like, WHOA,
• 53:15
Speaker 4: hang on, this is you're messing with my ecosystem. But
• 53:20
Speaker 4: I completely agree with Chelsea that like, enjoy. If you're
• 53:24
