- 0:00Speaker 1: Oh oh, we're back.
- 0:02Speaker 2: We're back. Oh my gosh, what a day, What a day.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Feel I'm exhausted, but exhilarated.
- 0:10Speaker 2: I'm exhausted, but I've got a camera roll that's never
- 0:14Speaker 2: looked better. Line. Oh my gosh, it's unbelievable. It looks
- 0:17Speaker 2: like AI.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It does look like AI, but it's just AO.
- 0:21Speaker 2: It is button.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I didn't even know.
- 0:29Speaker 2: We've never used that button before. Eagle shwantak. Yes, you
- 0:33Speaker 2: heard correctly, now dropping. She was in here and she
- 0:35Speaker 2: was in control of that whatever you call it she found. Yeah,
- 0:39Speaker 2: she played with a few things.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I think she found a bunch of new sound effects
- 0:43Speaker 1: I don't even know existed, So good for her. Today
- 0:46Speaker 1: was media.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Day, Media day.
- 0:48Speaker 1: We are still a couple of days out from the
- 0:51Speaker 1: tournament kicking off proper, and today was the day where
- 0:54Speaker 1: they turn players through the gauntlet of interviews. Yes, and
- 1:01Speaker 1: I have never had more stilted conversations in my life.
- 1:08Speaker 2: You warned me, You did warn me, and I thought,
- 1:11Speaker 2: how hard can it be? And then it happened, and
- 1:14Speaker 2: I was like, oh, this this could be. This could
- 1:18Speaker 2: be a long day, and I think it felt really long.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Can we go into plays?
- 1:24Speaker 3: Well, I think like for the most part, I probably
- 1:29Speaker 3: can't say who was well hint the most painful.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Hint.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I think we did a total of twenty interviews.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Wasn't that many?
- 1:39Speaker 1: I think it was up there, and I mean, look,
- 1:42Speaker 1: I'm going to say it, by far and away, the worst,
- 1:46Speaker 1: most painful interview of the day was.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Look.
- 1:51Speaker 1: No, but I'm a big tennis geek, so I loved
- 1:54Speaker 1: meeting some players that I hadn't met yet doing other
- 1:58Speaker 1: promo things for the AO, so it was great to
- 2:01Speaker 1: play the one point.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, that was cool. I don't think I
- 2:04Speaker 2: won any matches. No, I think I've got a couple. Maybe.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll do a super cut of all the sting palm.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I did leave a massive welt on Taylor Fritz's back,
- 2:16Speaker 1: and our producer suggested that it's knocked him out of
- 2:21Speaker 1: the AO. Yeah, he's pulled out of the tournament with
- 2:26Speaker 1: a welt. But I mean, so many people were so
- 2:29Speaker 1: fun to talk to. The thing is, you get them
- 2:31Speaker 1: sometimes at the end of their tether on media day
- 2:34Speaker 1: and they're so sick of answering the same.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Time, can you imagine what they're saying about us? I
- 2:41Speaker 2: went into this podcastudio and this guy there, Mike's other
- 2:45Speaker 2: chicken what tracksuit, trying to talk to me. She was
- 2:49Speaker 2: trying to play table tennis. And then one of them
- 2:52Speaker 2: wanted to date me.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Yeah, we did have a date scenario that went.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Para shape went absolutely.
- 3:01Speaker 1: So many interviews throughout the day. I kind of got
- 3:05Speaker 1: a little tired myself of asking people, what's the weirdest
- 3:07Speaker 1: thing you found in your tennis bag? We're going We're delirious.
- 3:10Speaker 1: We've been here all day. The players had a great
- 3:13Speaker 1: time because he did We're giving him something different. We
- 3:16Speaker 1: backed Yannick Center into a corner, asking him if he'd
- 3:20Speaker 1: ever hang out with Kim Jong un, and then one player,
- 3:26Speaker 1: in a very fun, you know vibe, suggested that we
- 3:32Speaker 1: should be further vetted by Craig Tyler.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I think our exact words were, you guys are going
- 3:37Speaker 2: to get canceled.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah. She asked whether Craig Tiley was across what was
- 3:43Speaker 1: happening here, and Craig, we know you're watching and listening
- 3:46Speaker 1: and you got our backs, but if you want to
- 3:50Speaker 1: fire us, maybe just Lizzie hey, because I just I
- 3:56Speaker 1: just love what you're doing.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a big fan You're stylish. Your stylish, you cool.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It has been a long day. Craig Talley is stylish,
- 4:06Speaker 2: You're cool.
- 4:07Speaker 4: You're my guy.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Is it's the best. So yeah, playing ping pong with
- 4:13Speaker 1: some people that I've watched playing tennis for years was
- 4:15Speaker 1: both nerve wracking and awesome.
- 4:18Speaker 2: It was so cool. Yeah, I was better at the
- 4:20Speaker 2: ping pong. Then we got into champagne pong. At one point,
- 4:24Speaker 2: I missed the champagne pong. You did miss the champagne pong,
- 4:27Speaker 2: And that was probably the most mortifying moment of my life.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I thought one point slam was bad. Playing champagne pong
- 4:35Speaker 2: with Isla tom Lanovitch brutal.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Did you choke?
- 4:40Speaker 2: I've choked in all three games, Zi Zoo tom Lanovich
- 4:44Speaker 2: Ani Simova. I I was I wasn't even hitting the table. Sometimes,
- 4:51Speaker 2: what's happened?
- 4:51Speaker 1: Because you were you drinking?
- 4:54Speaker 2: I'm sober? Oh wow, I know this is bad. And
- 4:57Speaker 2: Isla was like, wow, you're really bad at this. It's
- 5:02Speaker 2: been a long day.
- 5:03Speaker 1: It's been a long day. But some great player interviews.
- 5:07Speaker 1: We're gonna be kind of drip feeding those out. We'll
- 5:10Speaker 1: be doing kind of a super cut of all the
- 5:12Speaker 1: pain pong, stingpong whatever. Maybe I'm the only one that
- 5:17Speaker 1: calls it.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Because there were a lot of Americans in here today
- 5:20Speaker 2: and most of them called it stingpong.
- 5:23Speaker 1: We'll just stick with stingpong from here on out. And
- 5:25Speaker 1: I noticed people were taking it easy on you when
- 5:27Speaker 1: you would.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Lose a point, which I didn't appreciate. But I took
- 5:31Speaker 2: it easy on Eliza the other day, so maybe that
- 5:34Speaker 2: it does feel weird when you're hitting a ball at
- 5:37Speaker 2: a woman.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Yeah, especially one who's crying.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Yeah. Especially they're probably like, we couldn't hit it while
- 5:46Speaker 2: she's down. She's really bad at this.
- 5:48Speaker 1: She'll be perfect.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Tennis, no way.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Welcome back to another episode of Pod labor Arena. Once again,
- 5:58Speaker 1: you are joined by Mike Goldstein and the wood Bird
- 6:03Speaker 1: to my Woodbridge Lizzie, who.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Thank you, Thank you for having me.
- 6:08Speaker 1: It's such a pleasure to interview another person. Oh, I
- 6:13Speaker 1: live for it.
- 6:15Speaker 2: How good?
- 6:16Speaker 1: But at least no, like I would love to hear
- 6:19Speaker 1: the ideal interview, you know, because you got jokes.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Yeah sometimes, Yeah, you got some zazz zizuzu.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I like he was one of my favorites today.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Yeah, he is awesome, but Yeah, it's been a big day,
- 6:34Speaker 1: a lot happening around the grounds. We haven't even got
- 6:37Speaker 1: into the draw. Yeah, last night, welcome to headline calls,
- 6:47Speaker 1: everybody's favorite segments. So many things to discuss. Uh, the
- 6:56Speaker 1: draw is out. How do you feel?
- 6:59Speaker 2: Well? I saw our poor demon. Now is he demon?
- 7:02Speaker 4: He has a hard drawer.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, he is coming up against Matteo Barretini in
- 7:08Speaker 1: the first round. I mean, speaking of punks, Baratini is
- 7:12Speaker 1: right up there with the top hounk.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Yeah, he's tophunk, top punk. Yeah, he's up the top
- 7:17Speaker 2: five hunks. Oh yeah, Oh, we haven't done this top
- 7:21Speaker 2: five hunks. Well, this is a mix, is not like
- 7:25Speaker 2: one I think al Choraz. Who else do we have
- 7:29Speaker 2: in today? Grigor h Gregor, go ahead, Watch of the day?
- 7:35Speaker 2: Everything about Everyone came in with their watches. Yeah, I
- 7:39Speaker 2: was eyeing the watches.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Gregor was sitting right next to me, and I felt
- 7:43Speaker 1: pregnant afterwards.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah, my over reason, Voom voom.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Top three watches of the day.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Who did you think? There are a couple of girl.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I think I'm gonna have to go back through my pitches.
- 8:00Speaker 2: That's all right, let's can that segment?
- 8:02Speaker 1: Well, can top three watches, but stay tuned for our
- 8:06Speaker 1: new segment Watch Watch. The draw is out, I'll just
- 8:14Speaker 1: quickly scan it through the men's draw and see what
- 8:17Speaker 1: pops out at me. And if you're doing the bracket
- 8:20Speaker 1: challenge at home, I'm going to go through the men's
- 8:23Speaker 1: singles draw and just talk about some matches that pop
- 8:26Speaker 1: out at me. Lizzie, you'll be looking at the women's
- 8:29Speaker 1: draw after this. As discussed before, Demon are Barrettini. That's
- 8:34Speaker 1: a real highlight of an opening.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Oh my god, that's a tough match Demon Demon. Yeah.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Although I did look at the matchups last year and
- 8:46Speaker 2: they had one each.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Okay, right, I think Barrettini's I know they've both had injuries,
- 8:52Speaker 1: but Barrettini maybe struggled more with some physical issues in
- 8:57Speaker 1: the past year. And then also the home field and Vanta.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Is it an advantage though?
- 9:01Speaker 1: Why not?
- 9:02Speaker 2: Because I think sometimes there's too much pressure, right, But we.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Had him in here today. He's chill.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Yeah, great track suit, great track suit, got.
- 9:12Speaker 1: The threads on some of the and I'm here wearing
- 9:15Speaker 1: a headband, cotton on T shirt. Uh. In the men's draw,
- 9:24Speaker 1: some matches I'm looking forward to. You got to talk
- 9:26Speaker 1: about the hometown players. Tristan school Kate has a tough draw.
- 9:30Speaker 1: He's playing Quarantine Mouta, the wiley Frenchman. What do you
- 9:35Speaker 1: think I think is going to take that. He's real slicy,
- 9:38Speaker 1: real tricky. He's really gonna put a lot of pressure
- 9:41Speaker 1: on school Kate. And yeah, it's a tough one, and
- 9:45Speaker 1: I think all the Aussies kind of have a tough draw.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Jordan Thompson is playing Cerrendolo, so that could be tough
- 9:53Speaker 1: for Jordan. I think he comes through that one. So
- 9:57Speaker 1: these are just the Sunday and Eye matches. There's so
- 9:59Speaker 1: much look forward to. Another Koobler, a qualifier, Australian qualifier
- 10:06Speaker 1: is playing Francis Tfo.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I know that's hard. The most Australians to qualifying.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Yeah, for this Open, that's huge, I know. And it
- 10:16Speaker 1: looks like none of them will get through the first round.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Brutal coming from an America.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Oh no, no, no, that's all right. And then another Australian, Walton,
- 10:27Speaker 1: is up against Alcarez in the first round at Rod
- 10:31Speaker 1: Laver Arena.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I mean, what a moment though, Yeah, oh yeah, it's huge.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Yeah to play Alcoraz.
- 10:38Speaker 1: I know, center court, are you going to go. Are
- 10:40Speaker 1: you gonna be out there supporting the Aussies? Yeah?
- 10:43Speaker 2: O o OI all the way. Have you thought of
- 10:45Speaker 2: a new you know what I'm thinking? We just sing
- 10:48Speaker 2: ac DC songs.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Okay, what do you think it's thunderstrung? Yeah, school Kate.
- 10:58Speaker 2: What's the Dallas Cowboy? He's a CDC song.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys a CDC song?
- 11:03Speaker 2: Yeah, you know that the one they danced to. You
- 11:06Speaker 2: didn't watch Dallas Cowboys, no cheerleading documentary.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I did, but with the sound off.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And my door clubs.
- 11:19Speaker 1: A couple other matches that are leaping out at me
- 11:23Speaker 1: from the men's draw. One of my favorite players, Alexander
- 11:27Speaker 1: Bublick is playing Jensen Brooksby of America.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Oh this you torn?
- 11:33Speaker 1: Torn?
- 11:33Speaker 2: What are you thinking?
- 11:34Speaker 1: I think Bublick takes that one. I love the boob,
- 11:38Speaker 1: I love the lick.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:41Speaker 1: And then just quickly, I'll have a look at the
- 11:44Speaker 1: Monday Ones. Caspar Rude playing Baluchi. That's worth watching. There's
- 11:49Speaker 1: an all American match Leerner TN again Mark against Marcus Kuran.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you're gonna watch it.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna watch it. I love Lerner t.
- 11:57Speaker 2: If you watch him play it, yeah, he's fun, he's fine.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Who do you? Who do you picking that one? Tien
- 12:03Speaker 1: over Marcus gran and that our personal best friend after today.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Grigor Dimitrov is against Thomas Mahach always got his name
- 12:12Speaker 1: around a Chuck mahawk. He wears tiny shorts. That's all
- 12:16Speaker 1: I know.
- 12:17Speaker 2: We love a king.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Are you gonna go Gregor in that one? Just yeah?
- 12:21Speaker 2: Great? Watch?
- 12:22Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 12:23Speaker 2: And he was he was a great hang as well.
- 12:25Speaker 1: He was a good hang. He was good value. Ben
- 12:28Speaker 1: Shelton against Ugo Humbert and I've learned it's we can't
- 12:32Speaker 1: call anyone named Ugo Ugo. Do you remember the guy
- 12:38Speaker 1: that cut his hair? It's what they prefer Ugo.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Yes, did someone come?
- 12:45Speaker 1: Yeah? The all the Ugos come after me. Hard Jokovic
- 12:50Speaker 1: is up against Pedro Martinez, who got deep in the
- 12:53Speaker 1: one point slam the other day. But I stilln't feel
- 12:56Speaker 1: like Jokovic has that in the bag. That's gonna be
- 12:59Speaker 1: an he bet for you. Oh, this will be a
- 13:01Speaker 1: good match. Sinner is playing Hugo Gaston. Cinner is going
- 13:06Speaker 1: to be the heavy favorite in that one, but huge, huge,
- 13:09Speaker 1: Hugo Gaston is another French guy with a very unorthodox
- 13:14Speaker 1: game a lot of slices, a lot of just trick shots.
- 13:18Speaker 1: So yeah, that'll be a good one to watch. And
- 13:21Speaker 1: then of course stan Varenka playing Laslo Jier.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Stand the man. We hope he goes through. Yeah, we
- 13:29Speaker 2: want a little bit of a sendoff.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so. It's his last time at the AO.
- 13:34Speaker 1: This is the last one I'll ask you about. In
- 13:36Speaker 1: the men's draw for the first round, local boy Sweeney
- 13:41Speaker 1: against Gale moon Fees. That's hard, hard. They're both so likable,
- 13:46Speaker 1: both these players.
- 13:48Speaker 2: But I mean, but yeah, I think I'm gonna go Sweeney.
- 13:52Speaker 2: I think Sweeney, Yeah, I mean, I just want it
- 13:58Speaker 2: in the the crowd behind it.
- 14:01Speaker 1: But yeah, one of the most likable players.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Yeah, he's the best of all time. All right, and
- 14:09Speaker 2: I'm going with my heart. I'm going with my Aussie.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Price Sweeney over gailmand Fees. You heard it here, all right.
- 14:16Speaker 1: And then Lizzie going through the women's.
- 14:19Speaker 2: All right, and looking at the women's drawer. Here people
- 14:22Speaker 2: that I would want to watch if I if I
- 14:24Speaker 2: could watch all of these, Paulini.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I love her, Jasmine Paulini taking on Sasnovich.
- 14:32Speaker 1: So you like Paulini and that Pauline's Paulini seated seventh
- 14:36Speaker 1: and looks like Sasnovich unseated, so the heavy favorite. Definitely,
- 14:40Speaker 1: I'd see Marta Costjak against Jacques mo and Marta costjac
- 14:47Speaker 1: propositioned me for a date when she was in here
- 14:50Speaker 1: for the interview gossip for everybody. Oh she did.
- 14:54Speaker 2: She actually came back looking for you.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 14:57Speaker 2: She was like, Ah, that guy, the tall one, the
- 15:00Speaker 2: weird heads, is he still around? Like, I don't know
- 15:06Speaker 2: where he is, honey.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Brutal, brutal stuff. So anyone else sleeps out at you?
- 15:13Speaker 1: From the women's Venus Williams, she's back.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Yes, I really want to watch it.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Yeah, Danilovich, who are you picking that one?
- 15:22Speaker 2: I'm going Williams. I'm going with my heart.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Yeah. I could be wrong, but I think Danilovitch came
- 15:26Speaker 1: through qualifiers, so she must be in good form. I
- 15:30Speaker 1: don't know. I mean, I want Venus to win, you know,
- 15:33Speaker 1: you want her to have She keeps playing. She's older
- 15:37Speaker 1: than us, she.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Looks good, she looks great. Okay, I'm gonna go. We've
- 15:42Speaker 2: got Gibson, Alia Gibson.
- 15:44Speaker 1: God. The women's draw. It's hard to pick, honestly, like
- 15:47Speaker 1: some of these names. Sabalnka in her first round is
- 15:50Speaker 1: playing Raca Tomeonga Ra Jonah. I mean, what are the
- 15:58Speaker 1: odds on Rakka Ma Tone Jonah.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Let's go Monday.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Can we predict a double bagel?
- 16:06Speaker 2: Let's go Monday? All right, a game. I'm looking forward
- 16:09Speaker 2: to Leila Fernandez Firsus Genie Tian.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, yeah, Leila Fernandez. I like Leila, who, of
- 16:16Speaker 1: course played Emma Radikanu in that US Open final from
- 16:20Speaker 1: a few years ago, and both, you know, we're so
- 16:22Speaker 1: likable and so awesome, and then Rata Khanu just edged
- 16:26Speaker 1: her out. But Fernandez has been a stayer on the circuit.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Yeah, she looks strong. Yeah, she's good. But I really
- 16:32Speaker 2: there's a lot of hype around this Indonesian player.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Okay, so I'm going with her the Indonesian players, Yeah.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Okay, I know, I'm going for a lot of first
- 16:41Speaker 2: round upsets.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Right. I love the confidence there, even though you're unsure
- 16:45Speaker 1: how to pura.
- 16:49Speaker 2: What about the Canadian Moboco?
- 16:53Speaker 1: Oh yeah, she is in red hot form. Moboco took
- 16:56Speaker 1: out Madison Keys at the Adelaide International.
- 16:59Speaker 2: She looks very good up against Emerson Jones and now
- 17:04Speaker 2: I do want to go with my heart here, but
- 17:06Speaker 2: I think I'm going to go with the Canadian. Okay,
- 17:08Speaker 2: she's looking good. I think like she's going to go
- 17:10Speaker 2: far in this competition, right. Yeah.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Uh, there's a player here who I'm aware of, volley Nets.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I think it's Katie volley NEETs.
- 17:17Speaker 2: It sounds like a tennis brand.
- 17:19Speaker 1: It's really, you know, uh self fulfilling prophecy.
- 17:24Speaker 2: What else could she have done?
- 17:25Speaker 1: There was a guy a few years ago Tennis Sangrin
- 17:28Speaker 1: Tennis sang. His first name was Tennis and he was
- 17:32Speaker 1: from This is not a lot of Tennessee great, that's true. Oh,
- 17:36Speaker 1: this one's great. Carolina Plishkova against our very own Sloan
- 17:40Speaker 1: Stevens and I say that, oh well, and podlavor Arena's
- 17:44Speaker 1: very own.
- 17:45Speaker 2: We had her in here and we loved her.
- 17:47Speaker 1: She was the best.
- 17:48Speaker 2: She was great. I'm obviously going to go for Sloan.
- 17:51Speaker 1: You're going for Sloan against the big hitter, Carolina Piskva.
- 17:55Speaker 2: I want to see Sloan through. Speaking of great names,
- 17:58Speaker 2: Storm Hunter what a name. Yeah? Got through the qualifiers?
- 18:02Speaker 1: Yeah she did? And so who is she up against?
- 18:06Speaker 2: Jay Boozas?
- 18:07Speaker 1: Okay, Jay Bozzaz Jay boos as Oh bo Jessica Jessica
- 18:16Speaker 1: boo Oh. Also Ega Shavontek is taking on you on
- 18:21Speaker 1: in the first round. Ego's seated number two. Some interesting
- 18:25Speaker 1: news about Ego, Yeah, I heard.
- 18:26Speaker 2: It in the corridors. A lot of whisky goss up
- 18:29Speaker 2: happening out there. But apparently in a press conference one
- 18:32Speaker 2: of the reporters said, oh, you know, in the third
- 18:35Speaker 2: or fourth round, you could play this person or this person,
- 18:37Speaker 2: and Eiger wasn't happy about that. She did not want
- 18:40Speaker 2: to know who she could potentially play. She's just looking
- 18:43Speaker 2: what's in front of her, right, Yeah.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Makes sense. There's a lot of players like that that
- 18:47Speaker 1: don't want to know the jraw. They just want to
- 18:48Speaker 1: show up and play.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Right.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Well I did ask Ela tom Lenovitch today who are
- 18:53Speaker 2: you looking for to playing? And she said what kind
- 18:56Speaker 2: of question is that?
- 18:57Speaker 1: Yeah? That's amazing. I think did you not ask her?
- 19:03Speaker 1: Are you looking what? Who are you looking for to play?
- 19:06Speaker 1: Or are you looking for.
- 19:10Speaker 4: What kind of question is that?
- 19:12Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, I don't know.
- 19:28Speaker 1: All the players are debuting their new threads here at
- 19:32Speaker 1: the Australian Open. Uh, we'll get Liza West back in
- 19:36Speaker 1: here for the Fashion Police segment. But people are talking
- 19:39Speaker 1: about Yannick Center's little mustard number.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I don't mind it. You like it? Yeah, I quite
- 19:45Speaker 2: like it.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Does mustard go with carrots?
- 19:51Speaker 2: I'm trying to taste a flavor profile in my mouth
- 19:53Speaker 2: and it's not It's not a usual combination. Gingers look
- 19:57Speaker 2: good in autumnal colors. Yeah, look at you. I know,
- 20:02Speaker 2: call me the new Liza.
- 20:03Speaker 3: West, Liza East. Everybody very good, thank you, very good.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Oh. One of the new segments that we started doing
- 20:22Speaker 1: today with the tennis players we interviewed was would you rafter?
- 20:26Speaker 2: Very clever?
- 20:27Speaker 1: Very clever? Pat Raftor's name falls into a would you
- 20:31Speaker 1: rather scenario? But it's just we're asking doubles partners for
- 20:35Speaker 1: a lot of people. We'd put two people up on
- 20:36Speaker 1: the screen and who would you rather hang out with?
- 20:39Speaker 1: Stuck on a desert island with? And apparently our producer
- 20:43Speaker 1: has put together one of his own and this looks like,
- 20:47Speaker 1: what do you guys do? And I mean Martina Hingis.
- 20:51Speaker 2: And what's his deal? Oh? Definitely the Saudi. Oh yeah,
- 21:00Speaker 2: you just hang out with us, Crown Prince.
- 21:02Speaker 1: You just did the comedy festival and I am filthy rich.
- 21:09Speaker 1: I don't think that's Saudi. I'm gonna hang with Hingers,
- 21:12Speaker 1: I think. Yeah. But he has set up his own
- 21:16Speaker 1: burger place called chic Check. Some tireless efforts by the team.
- 21:27Speaker 2: It was a really well done team and Spunky, I
- 21:32Speaker 2: don't know. Big shout out to the ace man, our
- 21:37Speaker 2: sound guy, Yeah, Sounde, who tried on a number of
- 21:40Speaker 2: occasions too for us to eat his pistachios. He's always
- 21:45Speaker 2: trying to push these pistachios.
- 21:47Speaker 1: What uh, how exactly are the pistachios presented to us?
- 21:52Speaker 2: They're presented in their original plastic box. And he hasn't
- 21:55Speaker 2: been throwing out the shells anywhere. He's just been putting
- 21:58Speaker 2: them back in the box.
- 21:59Speaker 1: So you got to dig through his filthy shells little
- 22:02Speaker 1: pistachio to find a pistachio.
- 22:05Speaker 2: And its yeah, it's it's not appealing, and it's mainly
- 22:12Speaker 2: we've been here for what four days, he's gone through
- 22:14Speaker 2: the pistachios. I had one just out of politeness the
- 22:20Speaker 2: other day, did you Yeah? I did, and I did.
- 22:23Speaker 2: And usually if I have one pistachio, I can't stop iceman,
- 22:27Speaker 2: but I stopped after one.
- 22:29Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure this is how COVID started.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. But the real thing we've got to
- 22:36Speaker 2: praise him for is that he was He had a
- 22:40Speaker 2: lot of trappic ass today, Ace Man.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Is this true?
- 22:44Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, he was holding on all day and then
- 22:50Speaker 2: finally this afternoon he had a bit of time to
- 22:54Speaker 2: go to the men's and what did you say, acemn.
- 22:59Speaker 1: He dispatched successfully.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Getting too comfortable arena. Well, not not we Ace Man.
- 23:12Speaker 1: He's the best.
- 23:13Speaker 2: He's the best him.
- 23:14Speaker 1: And thank you for you know, containing your gas and
- 23:17Speaker 1: not not ruining Marta Kostik's day because she is a
- 23:22Speaker 1: princess and must be predicted at all costs, all right,
- 23:29Speaker 1: And then coming up stick around for an interview with
- 23:33Speaker 1: Diego Shortsman.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we love diegol Peck.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Today we have Diego Schwartzman in the studio.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Welcome to arena.
- 23:47Speaker 4: Thank you. Let's right, let's writ bake it backy than.
- 23:53Speaker 2: When I was.
- 23:54Speaker 4: He's trying to say, Becky.
- 23:56Speaker 3: What.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Peck? All right? El peck?
- 24:04Speaker 4: Fun decent just started.
- 24:09Speaker 1: It's okay, thanks so much for being here. I've been
- 24:12Speaker 1: a huge fan for a long time. I remember your
- 24:17Speaker 1: semi final against Raffa at the French well got to
- 24:21Speaker 1: the semifinals.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Man, I didn't have lucky. You know, I was thinking
- 24:26Speaker 4: when I arrived to Melbourne, I was thinking about my
- 24:28Speaker 4: second week in different Grand slams. I always loosing against
- 24:32Speaker 4: Novak or Rafa like six times.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Fuck, how much money I lost? This guys, money points, everything.
- 24:43Speaker 1: If it wasn't for those two dudes, it would be
- 24:46Speaker 1: the easiest run.
- 24:48Speaker 4: No, back still here, he's still here.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Have you seen him yet? Yeah?
- 24:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I saw him in the logo and he said
- 24:53Speaker 4: to me, I'm here because I want the young guys
- 24:57Speaker 4: still running on court, right yeah?
- 25:00Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 25:01Speaker 2: Have you have you seen Roger Federer around?
- 25:03Speaker 4: He's around, He's around, but I didn't see him. Okay, yeah,
- 25:06Speaker 4: it's going to be nice.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it'll be good. It's only twenty thousand bucks to
- 25:09Speaker 1: shake his.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Hand, did you know that?
- 25:11Speaker 1: No? Yeah, really, people are paying that.
- 25:14Speaker 4: It's so that really yeah people. Yeah, to see Russia
- 25:19Speaker 4: shake the hand, yeah yeah, hundred percent. People is crazy.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Yeah, people look crazy.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:27Speaker 1: If you paid Roger twenty grand, what would you expect
- 25:30Speaker 1: in return?
- 25:31Speaker 4: At least play play yeah head for twenty minutes? I said, no, Yeah,
- 25:36Speaker 4: at least but.
- 25:37Speaker 1: I've seen the clip of you and him playing ping pong.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, win those matches and.
- 25:43Speaker 4: Now we just did like a few points. It wasn't
- 25:45Speaker 4: a Labor Cup in two in London. Yeah, yeah, good moments.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Always share moments with these kind of guys. For me,
- 25:54Speaker 4: it was very special. Also, my family always went to
- 25:58Speaker 4: to the Labor Cup, so they always met Russia and
- 26:01Speaker 4: all these guys. It's like, what the fuck what.
- 26:05Speaker 2: We are doing?
- 26:06Speaker 4: People is paying twenty twenty Now.
- 26:10Speaker 1: I can't believe that I didn't want to bring this,
- 26:13Speaker 1: so you said, ala am I saying that right, Yeah,
- 26:15Speaker 1: it's okay, which translates to little one, little one, right,
- 26:18Speaker 1: and you're happy with that, next, dame.
- 26:20Speaker 4: I mean, it's okay. My family said that to me
- 26:22Speaker 4: when I was young, because I not because of my size,
- 26:25Speaker 4: because of I was the little of the family. And
- 26:28Speaker 4: then I don't know why, my friends start to repeat it.
- 26:31Speaker 4: And then you know, on court in Buenos Aires, especially
- 26:34Speaker 4: in the ATP during February, people listen to my friends,
- 26:40Speaker 4: listen to family, and they start to repeat, you know,
- 26:42Speaker 4: and yeah.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Here, so that's what your family and friends call you too?
- 26:45Speaker 4: Yeah, well no they they they said to me some
- 26:49Speaker 4: some friends. They called me by my second name, Sev, Like.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Yeah, my family just called me packer, packer Americans. It's
- 27:00Speaker 1: not nice. And I didn't want to say this, but
- 27:03Speaker 1: our boss Shannon said to tell you, we found your tennis.
- 27:06Speaker 4: Right as soon as as soon as I said, I
- 27:10Speaker 4: was thinking, okay, this is my racket.
- 27:13Speaker 2: This has nothing to do with you.
- 27:15Speaker 4: She just gave us.
- 27:18Speaker 1: So who's your pick for the Australian Open twenty twenty six.
- 27:21Speaker 4: It's difficult to say, but I think Senor and Alcoraz
- 27:24Speaker 4: right now are a little bit, you know, a few steps, yeah,
- 27:28Speaker 4: the to the rest. They show unreal tennis. Last year
- 27:33Speaker 4: I went to Turin and I saw their level and
- 27:36Speaker 4: it's crazy in another step. But I don't know this year.
- 27:40Speaker 4: Always when you start Australian Open, it's for many the
- 27:44Speaker 4: first tournament, so it's so difficult to play the first tournament.
- 27:49Speaker 4: But these guys always do well, so let's see.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Yeah, but is there someone outside of Alcohorazer Center, like
- 27:56Speaker 1: a dark horse that you could see getting through the
- 27:59Speaker 1: draw and making it at least to the final.
- 28:03Speaker 4: Difficult to say, but like a new name, I hope Fonseca.
- 28:10Speaker 4: But I like him also for South America, being Argentina,
- 28:14Speaker 4: he's Brazilian, but being South American. For US, it's very
- 28:18Speaker 4: important to have one very far. I think he's going
- 28:20Speaker 4: to have a great year, so maybe there is a
- 28:23Speaker 4: chance to start well. But he pulled out the first tournament,
- 28:26Speaker 4: so let's see how he is, you know, physically.
- 28:29Speaker 1: What did you watch the one point slap?
- 28:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm part of the organization right now, part of
- 28:33Speaker 4: Tennis Ausia. After the Yeah, did you love it?
- 28:37Speaker 2: Were you jealous?
- 28:38Speaker 1: I love it?
- 28:38Speaker 2: No?
- 28:39Speaker 4: No, I don't miss the court, to be honest, but
- 28:44Speaker 4: I think it was an important event for the people
- 28:47Speaker 4: who is watching at home, you know Argentina, I mean
- 28:50Speaker 4: South America. When when I wake up today and I
- 28:54Speaker 4: saw all the the streamers and everyone, you know, repeating
- 28:57Speaker 4: the highlights and talking about this. They they never spoke
- 29:01Speaker 4: about tennis before. Now they are speaking, you know, like
- 29:04Speaker 4: what the fuck? An amateur guy with a million dollars?
- 29:08Speaker 2: Yeah, anyone could have won.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing, like they should. Jordan Smith, a
- 29:13Speaker 1: guy who wanted don't you think he should get a
- 29:15Speaker 1: wild card into the main draw.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Now it's okay like this he won a yeah as
- 29:24Speaker 4: much just won the prizes, Yeah, unbelievable, but I think
- 29:27Speaker 4: the band was nice. People enjoyed. This is the most
- 29:30Speaker 4: important thing. But also the players. I spoke today just
- 29:33Speaker 4: trying to to have a feedback from the players and everyone.
- 29:37Speaker 4: Everyone was enjoying.
- 29:38Speaker 2: So what is your job now at Tennis Australia.
- 29:41Speaker 4: I mean the player relations team with Andrea, with the
- 29:43Speaker 4: Resilian guys.
- 29:44Speaker 2: What's happening?
- 29:46Speaker 1: Tell us.
- 29:48Speaker 4: Everyone is happy? I think, really really, I decide to
- 29:51Speaker 4: take the job because I think Australian Open is one
- 29:53Speaker 4: of the best by far in the relation with the players.
- 29:56Speaker 4: You know, they if you go downstairs for the layers,
- 30:00Speaker 4: it's an amazing event.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Everyone says that it's the best event. They treat the
- 30:04Speaker 1: players the best.
- 30:05Speaker 4: The facilities are the best facilities by fire. You know.
- 30:08Speaker 1: I worked out at the gym with the players yesterday.
- 30:16Speaker 4: Ahead of my going like.
- 30:17Speaker 2: What did you do? Because I'm not saying anything, maybe
- 30:20Speaker 2: walking around with with.
- 30:23Speaker 4: I want to shake back.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I was doing twelve hours lifts basically. Maria Sockery
- 30:29Speaker 1: was working out next to me and I felt very
- 30:32Speaker 1: peck Yeah.
- 30:33Speaker 4: I'm still walking in the gym every day or running here.
- 30:39Speaker 4: The Yarra River is so nice. Yeah, and also was
- 30:43Speaker 4: helping me to fight the shed log fourteen hours?
- 30:47Speaker 2: When did you get it?
- 30:48Speaker 4: Sunday?
- 30:49Speaker 1: Right now? I'm a so you're Argentinian. Do you wear
- 30:52Speaker 1: the little budgy smugglers? Have you heard that term before?
- 30:56Speaker 2: No?
- 30:57Speaker 4: I like how your hand went like that.
- 31:00Speaker 1: If you go for a swim there you were in
- 31:02Speaker 1: the speedos, I don't yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, to cover
- 31:06Speaker 1: up your little l peck, but we don't use that.
- 31:13Speaker 4: They should get.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Some budgy smugglers here, I think, so that's a brand
- 31:19Speaker 2: of like swim with.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Yeah, the little speedos that a lot of European guys were.
- 31:23Speaker 2: I'm sure they have tennis ones.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll get some Ale branded.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Uh.
- 31:27Speaker 4: You're allowed to go to swim in the yarra, I
- 31:30Speaker 4: think no, no, nobody.
- 31:32Speaker 2: It's quite dirty.
- 31:33Speaker 1: You can if you want diarrhea forever.
- 31:39Speaker 4: But you have the seat here. Think about the cities
- 31:42Speaker 4: in Australia. I have the sea cloaths. Yeah, it's so nice.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Yeah, Well let's try something with the diego. We are
- 31:49Speaker 1: trialing a new game here at pod Labor Arena called
- 31:51Speaker 1: would You Rafter? So it's basically would you rather? So
- 31:55Speaker 1: we'll give you some options and you tell us which
- 31:57Speaker 1: one you would rather do. We've just forced the raft's name.
- 32:01Speaker 4: Okay again it Yeah.
- 32:04Speaker 1: So here's your first round of would you rafter? This
- 32:07Speaker 1: is the doubles edition. Would you rather play doubles with
- 32:10Speaker 1: this guy Nick Kurios Or would you rather play doubles with.
- 32:15Speaker 2: This Donald Trump? Or Nick?
- 32:24Speaker 4: You know, the guy is loving the Argentinian president, taking
- 32:27Speaker 4: about him every time and helping helping Argentina with a
- 32:31Speaker 4: lot of money the last few months. Yeah crazy, Okay, yeah,
- 32:35Speaker 4: so but doubles though, I think right now we play
- 32:39Speaker 4: with Donald just no more than some about my country
- 32:43Speaker 4: in the next few years, you know, just because of that.
- 32:46Speaker 4: This is trade relations back.
- 32:47Speaker 1: To Donald real quick man. Look at the.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Underwear.
- 32:55Speaker 1: It's bad for him. I don't know what's going on
- 32:57Speaker 1: with that.
- 32:58Speaker 4: Forad it's a Wimbledon clothing.
- 33:01Speaker 1: But yeah, Red, and that is a giant ass on
- 33:05Speaker 1: the man.
- 33:09Speaker 4: Be careful.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I would love it if he listened to this podcast.
- 33:16Speaker 1: All right, a couple more options for would you rafter
- 33:19Speaker 1: the doubles category? Would you rather play doubles? Yeah, with
- 33:23Speaker 1: Simona Halip or this person we have.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Wow, I'm actually kind of happy that you don't know
- 33:36Speaker 2: who Reagun is. This is our national embarrassment, right this
- 33:40Speaker 2: this is an Australian breakdancer. You know what the paras
- 33:43Speaker 2: Olympics last year they had break dancing and this is
- 33:47Speaker 2: who represented us. And then she came out and she
- 33:49Speaker 2: did all of these crazy Australian animal moves. Well correct,
- 33:56Speaker 2: it was embarrassing.
- 33:57Speaker 1: She was the equivalent of you know that wild r
- 34:00Speaker 1: to the Nairobi Tournament and the w t A did
- 34:04Speaker 1: you didn't see that? All right? This was just like
- 34:06Speaker 1: basically a fraud on an international stage. Yeah, so you
- 34:11Speaker 1: would go Simona, yes, definitely. One more round of would
- 34:17Speaker 1: you rather doubles edition? We have Anastasia? Yes her? Or
- 34:27Speaker 1: would you go with well Danny DeVito?
- 34:30Speaker 5: There I think with these guys, look at this guys
- 34:35Speaker 5: go on, yeah, you two together on the court would
- 34:41Speaker 5: be we need a chair not serve.
- 34:47Speaker 1: This guy would be amazing. He looks comfy though, He's
- 34:53Speaker 1: definitely comfortable. All right. One more option for would you
- 34:57Speaker 1: wrap her doubles edition? This is Jordan Smith, the winner
- 35:00Speaker 1: in a million points around so fromdly so good or
- 35:05Speaker 1: this person?
- 35:07Speaker 4: Oh yeah yeah we played together? Yeah we beat first
- 35:13Speaker 4: round again? Gran right, one of the best teams around
- 35:19Speaker 4: the world. Of course we beat them and we're born
- 35:21Speaker 4: same same day, well me in nineteen ninety two. I
- 35:25Speaker 4: don't know. He's a year two. What day, sixteen August
- 35:33Speaker 4: from Leo.
- 35:34Speaker 2: Leo leaders.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Selfish and that was Carlo.
- 35:41Speaker 2: You said it.
- 35:43Speaker 4: I love Leo, you know when I see I say, yeah,
- 35:45Speaker 4: I have the bad things and good things from.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Leo Monte Carlo. That was a good tournament for you. Yeah, yeah,
- 35:52Speaker 1: but Rio was the one where you.
- 35:54Speaker 4: You know, it was my last really good, good tournament
- 35:57Speaker 4: playing I lost since he passed quarterfinance. I was four
- 36:02Speaker 4: zero on the third up, serving to go through the
- 36:08Speaker 4: semi finals, and I lost this much.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Well, at least you're not still thinking about it.
- 36:13Speaker 4: You can see the highlights. One of them before the
- 36:16Speaker 4: match point he shumped for a bully the winner. It
- 36:19Speaker 4: was brutal, super crazy.
- 36:21Speaker 1: That's all right. Well, we just showed you Jordan Smith
- 36:24Speaker 1: from the one million dollar one point slam. What we're
- 36:27Speaker 1: doing here at Pod Labor Arena is we jump on
- 36:31Speaker 1: the ping pong table for a zero dollar, zero dollar
- 36:35Speaker 1: one slam.
- 36:37Speaker 4: The lunch you play the lunch.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Yeah, we can take you to the cafeteria.
- 36:42Speaker 1: If you lose the point, we're doing pain pong or
- 36:46Speaker 1: sting pong where the other player gets the ball. Yeah yeah,
- 36:51Speaker 1: yeah yeah. So I think you and Lizzie are going
- 36:54Speaker 1: to verse each other today.
- 36:55Speaker 2: So first.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Rock paper scissors to see who's the herbs.
- 37:01Speaker 4: And it's on four four, okay, okay, one two three, ah,
- 37:07Speaker 4: I'm serving.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:11Speaker 3: Uh.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Diego won the Rock paper scissors and has elected to
- 37:15Speaker 1: serve take away. Oh the double handed backhand.
- 37:24Speaker 4: I want to set up.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Lizzy takes at one point, well, you know the stakes.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah. Oh it stings, It stings a little bit.
