- 0:00Speaker 1: And now Move the Sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
- 0:07Speaker 1: What's up, everybody? Welcome to Move the Sticks on a Monday, DJ.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Bucky Rhett back with you as we go through some
- 0:12Speaker 1: of the big games from this last week. A lot
- 0:15Speaker 1: of storylines, a lot of things to get to.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Buck.
- 0:17Speaker 1: It looks like your background right there, you're either at
- 0:20Speaker 1: work or you're in some type of a holding situation there.
- 0:22Speaker 1: What what do we got going on?
- 0:24Speaker 3: Oh, I'm going to work. I can't.
- 0:25Speaker 4: I came into work, flew right off the plane, jump
- 0:29Speaker 4: right in, decided to come in office and do the
- 0:31Speaker 4: podcast kind of like on location.
- 0:33Speaker 3: If I go a little differently, you.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Know, nice Rett supporting team win or lose.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I like that.
- 0:38Speaker 5: I appreciate it, baby every week. You know, we're not
- 0:41Speaker 5: fair weather fans over here. Loyalty is a big deal.
- 0:44Speaker 5: And yeah, I just wanted to make it clear this
- 0:46Speaker 5: was this was not forty nine ers read Bucky. I
- 0:48Speaker 5: wouldn't do.
- 0:49Speaker 2: That to you.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Yeah you're talking.
- 0:51Speaker 1: We'll get to that game. Yeah, we'll get to that
- 0:53Speaker 1: game in a minute. We got we got definitely got
- 0:55Speaker 1: a chance to get to that one. Let's let's get
- 0:56Speaker 1: going because we had a lot of games to get
- 0:58Speaker 1: to all. I'll start us off here with the game
- 1:00Speaker 1: I was at, which ended up being I think the
- 1:01Speaker 1: game of the day. The Chargers, as they always do,
- 1:04Speaker 1: they play a thriller, comes down to the very end.
- 1:06Speaker 1: They losing a walk off kick to the Lions forty
- 1:09Speaker 1: one to thirty eight a game. The Lions were a
- 1:12Speaker 1: track meet in the first half, run the ball, second half,
- 1:15Speaker 1: they threw it all over the place. An impressive day
- 1:18Speaker 1: from the Lions offense. The Chargers defense. Look, you're coming
- 1:21Speaker 1: off games against Tyson Bagent and Zach Wilson and those offenses.
- 1:26Speaker 1: The defense, you know, was a sack fest and it
- 1:28Speaker 1: was impressive in this one. They didn't get a single sack.
- 1:30Speaker 1: They could not get pressure on Jared Goff. It was
- 1:33Speaker 1: one explosive after another. And a couple of takeaways from that,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and we'll go around the horn on this game here,
- 1:39Speaker 1: but number one the takeaway was you'll never regret investing
- 1:43Speaker 1: in the offensive line. It's a really good offensive line,
- 1:47Speaker 1: if not the best offensive line in the NFL with
- 1:49Speaker 1: the Detroit Lions. And they can run right their right
- 1:51Speaker 1: handed run team behind Piney Sewel, and then they all
- 1:54Speaker 1: five are good in pass protection. Panae Seuele played really
- 1:57Speaker 1: really well against Bosa in pass pro as well. Across
- 2:00Speaker 1: the board, there's no weakness. We talk about tomato cans,
- 2:02Speaker 1: Bucky and no tomato cans on this front. There's no
- 2:06Speaker 1: there's no easy matchup, there's no easy win. They controlled
- 2:08Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage defensively, I still think obviously by
- 2:11Speaker 1: the points they gave up. I know they're ranked high,
- 2:13Speaker 1: but Aiden Hudginson's a star. Ali McNeill's a really good player.
- 2:16Speaker 1: They've got some other good players. This is not a
- 2:19Speaker 1: defense to me that when you look at the NFC
- 2:21Speaker 1: and you look at the Eagles, the Cowboys, the Niners,
- 2:23Speaker 1: once you get into the tournament, I think that'll that'll
- 2:25Speaker 1: probably slow them down and hurt them at that point
- 2:28Speaker 1: in time. But offensively, especially upfront in the trench, is
- 2:32Speaker 1: really really good football team.
- 2:34Speaker 4: I mean, LOOKDJ, you talked about investing in the offensive line.
- 2:37Speaker 4: They've done a really good job of that. And I
- 2:40Speaker 4: love it when the team really takes on the personality
- 2:42Speaker 4: of their coach. So you see Dan Campbell, high octane,
- 2:45Speaker 4: a lot of energy, a lot of rough and tumbled,
- 2:47Speaker 4: old school tough guy stuff, and this team plays like that.
- 2:50Speaker 4: And look, he's a tight end by trade, so it's
- 2:53Speaker 4: not a coincidence that the offensive line is something that
- 2:55Speaker 4: he's really invested in. Their offense is their best defense
- 2:59Speaker 4: and the way that they are able to in a
- 3:02Speaker 4: diverse approach. Using a diverse approach, they can run it,
- 3:05Speaker 4: they can throw it, they can control the game, and
- 3:07Speaker 4: so that defense that you worry about, if they get
- 3:11Speaker 4: the game on their terms, they can make it very,
- 3:13Speaker 4: very difficult for anybody to play with them.
- 3:15Speaker 3: And that's what you saw. You saw the running game.
- 3:18Speaker 4: David Montgomery shows up and decides that he wants to
- 3:20Speaker 4: be Barry Sanders two point zero.
- 3:21Speaker 1: As I know, he had seventy five yards in him.
- 3:25Speaker 3: I know you heard that in it, Jimmy Gibbs.
- 3:28Speaker 4: You got Aman Rossaint Brown catching balls all over the place.
- 3:32Speaker 3: I mean, this team is really good.
- 3:34Speaker 4: And you know, say what you will about Jerry Goff
- 3:37Speaker 4: in this offense for this team, he is the perfect
- 3:40Speaker 4: franchise quarterback that just kind of plays that pass first
- 3:42Speaker 4: point guard role for this this squad.
- 3:45Speaker 5: I thought this this game from a game management perspective,
- 3:48Speaker 5: was kind of interesting. I mean, these two teams were
- 3:50Speaker 5: a combined seven for eight on the fourth downs, right,
- 3:55Speaker 5: and none perhaps more glaring than Dan Campbell's decision at
- 3:59Speaker 5: the certainly could have kicked the field goal with what
- 4:02Speaker 5: about a minute twenty to go and decides to you know,
- 4:05Speaker 5: to just end it and run the clock out, gets
- 4:08Speaker 5: that big conversion. He was Laporta on the catch, right,
- 4:10Speaker 5: and then they end up, you know, kicking the field
- 4:12Speaker 5: goal with no time left. It felt like it felt
- 4:16Speaker 5: like a Brandon Staley way to try to win the
- 4:18Speaker 5: football game. And I love that that Dan Campbell, you know,
- 4:22Speaker 5: loves that has that confidence in his team and showed
- 4:24Speaker 5: it a number of times and actually went for it
- 4:26Speaker 5: more than Brandon Staley did in this game five times,
- 4:29Speaker 5: converted four of them and none bigger than the end.
- 4:31Speaker 5: So I just you know, again, you talk about taking
- 4:34Speaker 5: over the mentality of a team and having the confidence
- 4:37Speaker 5: and the compete level to go out there and perform,
- 4:40Speaker 5: you know, in those high stress, high pressure environments like
- 4:43Speaker 5: they had in that game where you know it was
- 4:45Speaker 5: going back and forth right in the second half, and
- 4:47Speaker 5: so those key plays, you know, those fourth downs were
- 4:50Speaker 5: massive and that they were able to convert, especially on
- 4:52Speaker 5: that last one when that could have backfired. Was was
- 4:55Speaker 5: a big deal, and I thought just kind of a
- 4:58Speaker 5: symbolic moment for that Lions team, understanding where they are,
- 5:02Speaker 5: how good they can be, and that their coach believes
- 5:04Speaker 5: in them that way to go and get that done.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and that last one, why do you do that?
- 5:08Speaker 1: With a minute twenty The Chargers last five possessions five
- 5:11Speaker 1: touchdowns exactly, So I mean, he knew where that was headed.
- 5:15Speaker 1: If he gave the ball back, he wasn't going to
- 5:17Speaker 1: do that, so it was aggressive. Now, this is one
- 5:19Speaker 1: of the things I love about when we're doing what
- 5:21Speaker 1: we're doing because you get a chance to watch tape,
- 5:23Speaker 1: we have our conversations, and then we have the resources
- 5:26Speaker 1: because of who we're affiliated with with the league to
- 5:28Speaker 1: be able to pull up some numbers. So I reached
- 5:31Speaker 1: out to a couple of our buddies. Bill Smith helped
- 5:33Speaker 1: me out with the project, and then Jack Andraid helped
- 5:35Speaker 1: me out with another one. But on this one, I'm
- 5:37Speaker 1: watching this game and it wasn't it was in the
- 5:39Speaker 1: preparation for this game as well as I feel like
- 5:41Speaker 1: watching football on a weekly basis, I just feel like, man,
- 5:44Speaker 1: you know, the best matchup right now was when you
- 5:46Speaker 1: can get in three by one or just getting a
- 5:48Speaker 1: three receiver set to the same side, and that number
- 5:50Speaker 1: three receiver, how many times do you see that guy
- 5:53Speaker 1: get matched up with linebackers and.
- 5:54Speaker 2: It doesn't matter.
- 5:55Speaker 1: It could be a wide out, it could be a
- 5:57Speaker 1: tight end and it flexed out, it could be a
- 5:59Speaker 1: back that you put down there. But I was like, man,
- 6:01Speaker 1: it seems like that's just stealing. So I said, can
- 6:03Speaker 1: we pull the numbers of when you target the number
- 6:06Speaker 1: three receiver and see what that looks like? And so
- 6:09Speaker 1: here's what it is, guys. I thought this was pretty interesting.
- 6:12Speaker 1: So when you're in trips here targeting that number three receiver,
- 6:17Speaker 1: the completion percentage is seventy five point one percent. Seventy
- 6:22Speaker 1: five point one percent. All other all other passes in
- 6:26Speaker 1: the league sixty seven point one percent. So I mean
- 6:28Speaker 1: it's a high it's a high level, right, but still
- 6:31Speaker 1: that's a significant difference. Now the air yards are down
- 6:33Speaker 1: a little bit, down to five point nine yards, which
- 6:36Speaker 1: isn't a huge number. But the here's the other one,
- 6:40Speaker 1: the success rate open target rate. Right, So open target rate,
- 6:45Speaker 1: just open target rate, I should say, fifty four point
- 6:48Speaker 1: one percent on all the other throws, it's forty six
- 6:50Speaker 1: point seven percent. So like guys, A guys are getting
- 6:54Speaker 1: open and they're easy layup completions. They just you're stealing
- 6:58Speaker 1: and buck. You can speak to this as so somebody
- 7:00Speaker 1: who's a play caller on your high school team.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I mean, you'll see it.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I know you guys don't throw the ball out, but
- 7:04Speaker 1: you're playing against teams that are throwing it, and you
- 7:07Speaker 1: see it from someone who's played on the offensive side
- 7:09Speaker 1: the defensive side. I just remember seeing it with the
- 7:11Speaker 1: Chiefs forever. I saw Tyreek Hill on that number three
- 7:13Speaker 1: spot wearing out linebackers and Cover three and just wearing
- 7:17Speaker 1: them out on those deep over routes. Like it just
- 7:19Speaker 1: seems like, man, that is a hidden gem when you're
- 7:21Speaker 1: designing offense.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Well, it's the hardest formation to deal with because what
- 7:26Speaker 4: it does is it makes you, from a defensive standpoint
- 7:28Speaker 4: declare if you're in zone, it's easy to tell because
- 7:31Speaker 4: you can tell that the linebacker is over top of
- 7:32Speaker 4: number three. If you're a man to man, you look
- 7:34Speaker 4: over there, you're like, hey, there's a little dude over
- 7:36Speaker 4: there and the slot and you can run right at him.
- 7:38Speaker 4: And so it gives you an opportunity to make the
- 7:41Speaker 4: game very easy for the quarterback. It's also a high
- 7:44Speaker 4: comcretion completion percentage throw because it's the shortest throw, it's
- 7:47Speaker 4: right in the middle, it's right there.
- 7:48Speaker 3: It's easy for the quarterback to do.
- 7:50Speaker 4: And if you add like RPO layers where the the
- 7:53Speaker 4: back comes in front of the quarterback and you make
- 7:55Speaker 4: that guy kind of make a decision where he steps
- 7:58Speaker 4: to be a part of the run defense or he
- 8:00Speaker 4: says back, it just makes it very very easy. What
- 8:03Speaker 4: you're seeing in today's game, it's all matchup driven. These
- 8:08Speaker 4: play callers offensively now are just creating and dictating matchups
- 8:12Speaker 4: and they're making it very very simple for the quarterback.
- 8:15Speaker 4: That's why you're seeing so many teams have so much
- 8:17Speaker 4: success going to the number three in the slot.
- 8:20Speaker 1: How about this, I'll add this other number. So, how
- 8:22Speaker 1: about when you're seeing man coverage, Because you talked about
- 8:24Speaker 1: you're gonna it's gonna be a coverage indicator. What are
- 8:26Speaker 1: you getting right against man coverage? The open target rate
- 8:30Speaker 1: targeting number three thirty seven point nine percent, everybody else
- 8:33Speaker 1: twenty nine point six percent. So, in other words, if
- 8:36Speaker 1: you're seeing man coverage, across the board. That's where your
- 8:39Speaker 1: eyes go. That's the best matchup, that's where you're going
- 8:42Speaker 1: to have the most success.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Love it, uh man. I think that's that's really important.
- 8:47Speaker 5: I think to kind of understand as you're trying to
- 8:49Speaker 5: assess what teams are doing in terms of passing concepts
- 8:52Speaker 5: and how they're trying to attack defenses. I think that
- 8:56Speaker 5: that's telling. And then you start to look at some
- 8:58Speaker 5: of the body types of the players that are in
- 9:00Speaker 5: they are running those number three routes, and they can
- 9:01Speaker 5: be those dudes with the with the real speed to
- 9:04Speaker 5: cause those mismatches right, the suddenness to create separation, and
- 9:07Speaker 5: a man versus and a man coverage type of situation.
- 9:11Speaker 1: You're getting a safety A lot of times you're gonna
- 9:13Speaker 1: be able to get the safety, and you got the
- 9:15Speaker 1: safety a depth, So you gotta see it like I
- 9:17Speaker 1: see it when like a Loie Gilman was put in
- 9:19Speaker 1: a bind in this game against the Lions a couple
- 9:21Speaker 1: times where he's got Amara Saint Brown in that spot,
- 9:24Speaker 1: he's twelve yards off buck, He's got a three way
- 9:27Speaker 1: go like he can he can take me anywhere he
- 9:29Speaker 1: wants to go, and that's impossible.
- 9:31Speaker 2: It's impossible to cover that.
- 9:33Speaker 4: It is, and you talked about the part of it.
- 9:34Speaker 4: You talked about a three way go. DB's to talk
- 9:37Speaker 4: about a two way go, like he can go in
- 9:39Speaker 4: and out. You don't really have the ability to play
- 9:41Speaker 4: with leverage because depending on if you have a what
- 9:43Speaker 4: they call a whole defender, meaning a linebacker sitting in
- 9:46Speaker 4: the hold at about eight to ten.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Yards, you may not have help on the short underneath pattern.
- 9:50Speaker 4: So now you leaning heavy inside and you have a
- 9:53Speaker 4: guy who has will go like a momro Saint Brown,
- 9:55Speaker 4: they kind of stick and nod you inside, didn't break out.
- 9:58Speaker 4: You don't have enough speed to be able to get outside.
- 10:01Speaker 4: And the other thing that you have is that number
- 10:04Speaker 4: three guy has the ability to the motion. He can go
- 10:07Speaker 4: in and out and across, and so you can get
- 10:09Speaker 4: them on the move. And there's so many different things
- 10:11Speaker 4: that you can do with bunch routes to make it
- 10:13Speaker 4: very difficult to get your hands on them. Yeah, the
- 10:16Speaker 4: smartest coaches should put their best receivers there, and they're red.
- 10:20Speaker 4: You talked about the size guy where we're seeing the
- 10:22Speaker 4: little guys, but for the longest time, Sean Payton would
- 10:25Speaker 4: put the big receiver Holston, the Michael Thomas. He would
- 10:29Speaker 4: put those guys there and they're quicker than your linebackers,
- 10:33Speaker 4: but more physical than your little nickels. And once again,
- 10:36Speaker 4: it's another way for them to really exploit a matchup
- 10:39Speaker 4: over the middle of the field.
- 10:40Speaker 5: And then what happens on the backside is you find
- 10:42Speaker 5: yourself in one on one opportunities too on the single
- 10:45Speaker 5: receiver side, which you saw with the red around right
- 10:48Speaker 5: in the red zone that.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Specific everybody's doing. That red zone is three by one
- 10:53Speaker 1: and they're working the one on one on the backside.
- 10:55Speaker 5: There you go. There you go really hard, good project.
- 10:58Speaker 4: It's hard being a dB. It's just so all the advantages,
- 11:02Speaker 4: all the advantages, it's hard. And if you were a
- 11:04Speaker 4: play call, do you talk about that? You take your
- 11:06Speaker 4: two best players and put number one on the backside
- 11:09Speaker 4: and number three on the front side.
- 11:10Speaker 3: How do you handle that?
- 11:11Speaker 4: Because you can't double everybody, so how do you? So
- 11:14Speaker 4: it really creates a lot of problems for defensive play
- 11:17Speaker 4: calls as they're trying to figure out how to match
- 11:19Speaker 4: up with what the offense is presenting.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I know, I know, I went along on that game,
- 11:22Speaker 1: but that was just something That was fascinating to me
- 11:25Speaker 1: when you see something specifically and you can kind of
- 11:27Speaker 1: widen it out and say, okay, there's something here, man
- 11:29Speaker 1: like this. Smart teams are doing this. Smart teams are
- 11:32Speaker 1: doing something, so maybe we ought to pay attention to it. Buck,
- 11:35Speaker 1: you had a game. It ended up being a blowout,
- 11:37Speaker 1: but it was a big matchup. It was highly anticipated,
- 11:40Speaker 1: but not the outcome.
- 11:41Speaker 3: We all thought, yeah, yeah, highly anticipated.
- 11:43Speaker 4: But much like you, this sent me on a research
- 11:46Speaker 4: project as well, because you know, one thing, it's so
- 11:50Speaker 4: funny how much people tell you and the press is
- 11:52Speaker 4: leading up to the game about what's going to happen.
- 11:55Speaker 3: And so day Sung goes to the forty nine ers.
- 11:58Speaker 4: There's all this heat on Steve Wilks about the defense coordinated.
- 12:02Speaker 4: We got to get the defense right. Doug Peterson talking
- 12:04Speaker 4: about how static they are. Well, you know what happens
- 12:07Speaker 4: when you have a bye week and you get a
- 12:08Speaker 4: couple of new toys like Chase Young and Randy Gregory.
- 12:11Speaker 4: You decide that you're gonna do something that you've never done.
- 12:13Speaker 4: So the first player of the game, I'm sitting on
- 12:15Speaker 4: the sideline and they have five d linemen on the field,
- 12:18Speaker 4: and if You can imagine this DJ, because you've seen
- 12:20Speaker 4: Chase Young and Nick Bosa. Imagine those two guys standing
- 12:25Speaker 4: up on the edges. And then you have Eric Armstead inside,
- 12:28Speaker 4: Javon Hargrave inside, you have Randy Gregory rotating in, and
- 12:32Speaker 4: they decided that, you know what we're gonna do with guys.
- 12:34Speaker 4: We're gonna be a five man front today, and we're
- 12:36Speaker 4: going to make sure that you can't double team our guys.
- 12:39Speaker 4: And we're not only gonna put that bear front out there.
- 12:42Speaker 4: We're gonna let Nick Bosa and Chase Young decide. Sometimes
- 12:45Speaker 4: you line up outside. Sometimes you guys just stand up in.
- 12:47Speaker 3: The A gaps. Just stand in the A gaps and
- 12:49Speaker 3: move around and do all this.
- 12:51Speaker 4: And so the first three drives, I think Trevor Lawrence
- 12:55Speaker 4: saw thirteen people on the field because DJ before he
- 12:57Speaker 4: could even get to the top of the drop, he's
- 12:59Speaker 4: moving and whatever, and the ghosts are coming. And the
- 13:03Speaker 4: other thing I learned about, and this is really important
- 13:06Speaker 4: when we talk about like the draft process, environment matters.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Talking to Chase Young after the game, oh, He's like, Oh,
- 13:14Speaker 4: that's a completely different vibe when you go to San Francisco.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Like the expectations, the levels or whatever, because DJ, guess
- 13:19Speaker 4: what I saw Chase Young running to the ball. I
- 13:21Speaker 4: saw him playing with a lot of energy. I saw
- 13:23Speaker 4: him doing all the things that you saw him.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Doing at Ohio State.
- 13:26Speaker 4: And I was like, huh, I wonder maybe because his
- 13:28Speaker 4: teammate Nick Bost is there and can tell him, hey, man,
- 13:31Speaker 4: knock it off, or guaranty is POSI, Hey, you need
- 13:37Speaker 4: to get your butt to the ball. And all of
- 13:39Speaker 4: a sudden, the Chase Young that was off defensive Rookie
- 13:43Speaker 4: of the Year, that's the guy that shows up, and
- 13:46Speaker 4: that's the guy that makes the forty nine is defense
- 13:48Speaker 4: really really scared because the Jaguars couldn't block him at
- 13:51Speaker 4: a point of a time.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's interesting to me.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And then you know, coming out of this game, Buck
- 13:57Speaker 1: one of the one of the storylines was, oh, I
- 13:59Speaker 1: guess brock Per he's fixed. So I'm like, well, let
- 14:01Speaker 1: me go watch this because they're coming off of a
- 14:02Speaker 1: couple of games have been a little disappointing. They start
- 14:05Speaker 1: off in this game and they hit, they get a
- 14:07Speaker 1: shallow early just nice easy completions.
- 14:10Speaker 2: It was just like the classic, just kind of getting yellow.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Was that the shallow the Christian McCaffrey who's lined up
- 14:14Speaker 3: at X wide receiver.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Yeah, all the way across, all the.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Way across the field. Uh. And so they hit that early.
- 14:24Speaker 1: He makes an unbelievable throw across body throw touchdown which
- 14:28Speaker 1: I didn't think had a chance to get there. Somehow
- 14:30Speaker 1: it got there. That was a kind of a confidence
- 14:32Speaker 1: builder as well. Then they hit a you know, they
- 14:34Speaker 1: hit they beat Lloyd on a wheel with uh with
- 14:38Speaker 1: the tight end later.
- 14:39Speaker 2: On in the game.
- 14:40Speaker 1: So it was it was a nice job of scheme
- 14:41Speaker 1: and some things I thought, really more than anything else,
- 14:43Speaker 1: it was just get him in a rhythm, get him
- 14:44Speaker 1: in a rhythm early. They didn't need him to throw
- 14:46Speaker 1: it fifty times by any stretch, but they got him going.
- 14:49Speaker 1: And then the other thing I would say is you
- 14:52Speaker 1: tell me because I don't. I don't study the Jags
- 14:55Speaker 1: every week on defense. But man Iyuk on Tyson Campbell,
- 14:59Speaker 1: they liked that one. They sure liked going at that
- 15:01Speaker 1: one because he got him several times in that game.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Here's what I would say.
- 15:09Speaker 4: The Niners, We've talked about it for years, the positionless
- 15:12Speaker 4: football DJ to watch it play out on turf. It
- 15:15Speaker 4: was the one opportunity that I've had to really watch
- 15:18Speaker 4: them and what they did. They are a nightmare as
- 15:20Speaker 4: a defensive play caller to figure out how to match
- 15:22Speaker 4: up with. Like I'm joking about Christian McCaffrey lining up
- 15:25Speaker 4: at x DJ, there was one time where Christian McCaffrey's
- 15:28Speaker 4: at X and Kyle yuchek is basically the z Deebo
- 15:32Speaker 4: Samuels in the slot killed on somebody's in the backfield.
- 15:35Speaker 4: And so if you're a man demand, how do you
- 15:37Speaker 4: align to all of the moving parts And they change
- 15:41Speaker 4: their formations and what they're doing without changing the personnel groupings,
- 15:46Speaker 4: So you can't hide the vulnerable player that you have
- 15:49Speaker 4: in man. If you play zone, they mess.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Up all your rules.
- 15:53Speaker 4: It can be the most confusing and confounding offense that
- 15:57Speaker 4: you can match up with. If they're healthy going into
- 16:00Speaker 4: the playoffs, good luck to a defensive coordinator trying to
- 16:02Speaker 4: come over a plan to deal with them.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Let me ask you this, if you're playing, if you're
- 16:05Speaker 1: getting ready to play them because of that, and rep
- 16:06Speaker 1: jump in on this on the back end, But I mean,
- 16:09Speaker 1: this is this an offense?
- 16:10Speaker 3: Now?
- 16:10Speaker 1: I remember Belichick used to not put numbers on scout
- 16:12Speaker 1: team against certain teams.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I don't care if that's McCaffrey, if that's Deebo Sama's
- 16:17Speaker 1: Brandon Ayuk. We're just gonna where you line up is
- 16:19Speaker 1: the position. We're gonna treat you as like that. Numbers
- 16:21Speaker 1: are irrelevant.
- 16:22Speaker 4: But you have to have the personnel on defense to
- 16:24Speaker 4: be able to do that, because you can get caught
- 16:26Speaker 4: in a bad matchup with like your dB is maybe
- 16:29Speaker 4: eating up by Christian McCaffrey and then you got Deebo
- 16:32Speaker 4: Samuel on Devin Lloyd or for Yea Luakan. It just
- 16:35Speaker 4: makes it very hard to do. And not only do
- 16:39Speaker 4: they put you in those spots early, they didn't motion
- 16:42Speaker 4: and shift, so now you got to check in a line,
- 16:44Speaker 4: so they really put you by the mind. What you
- 16:46Speaker 4: saw was Kyle Shanahan given ten, eleven, twelve days to
- 16:50Speaker 4: kind of get in the lab and play around with
- 16:52Speaker 4: all the toys in the toy box. It can be
- 16:54Speaker 4: really really confusing for the four opponents going forward.
- 16:58Speaker 5: Well, I'm just listening to a couple of things and
- 17:00Speaker 5: they keep keep coming back, coming back to the same
- 17:03Speaker 5: conclusion or the question I should say you mentioned, Uh,
- 17:07Speaker 5: you know irrelevance. You mentioned playing around with toys. Where's
- 17:12Speaker 5: Calvin Ridley gone in the Jaguars offense? Three targets after
- 17:17Speaker 5: you know that week one, You're like, holy smokes, here
- 17:20Speaker 5: he is the guy we've been talking about all off season.
- 17:22Speaker 5: Is the steal of the off season is going to
- 17:24Speaker 5: be you know, have this breakout campaign and you know
- 17:28Speaker 5: he's targeted three times, catches two balls where Christian Kirk's
- 17:30Speaker 5: getting you know, eleven different looks. And that's fine. You
- 17:33Speaker 5: pay Christian Kirk a lot of money. He's a really
- 17:35Speaker 5: good receiver. I understand that part. I fell into the
- 17:37Speaker 5: trap of like of you know, buying into the hype
- 17:40Speaker 5: on Ridley and it just.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Oh, Bucky ruined my fantasy team. I fired Bucky as
- 17:44Speaker 1: my fantasy advisor. He was my he was my.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Official advisor for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I drafted Tank Bigsby and I drafted Calvin Ridley. My
- 17:52Speaker 1: team stinks. I'm not taking any ownership. I'm blaming it
- 17:55Speaker 1: all on Buck. I'm just throwing it all on Buck
- 17:57Speaker 1: with two things.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Tank Bigsby right now just has a black cloud over said.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Every time the ball is in his direction, he either
- 18:02Speaker 4: tips it its intercepted almost or whatever.
- 18:05Speaker 3: It's bad.
- 18:06Speaker 4: The thing about Kevin really, and this is funny because
- 18:08Speaker 4: the first couple games of the year, they really tried
- 18:10Speaker 4: to force feed Calvin Ridley. But what it did, it
- 18:12Speaker 4: ruined the flow of the offense. I thought, what was interesting.
- 18:16Speaker 4: We can talk about this later on when we talked
- 18:17Speaker 4: about Trevor Lawrence, because ultimately he's going to have a
- 18:20Speaker 4: big payday.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Nick Bosa Before the game.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Three days before the game, Nick Bosa was asked about
- 18:24Speaker 4: Trevor Lawrence and defending Trevor Lawrence. He was like, well,
- 18:27Speaker 4: stop the running game, stopped the RPOs and screens and
- 18:30Speaker 4: make him play quarterback. I thought there was a damning
- 18:34Speaker 4: indictment on what somebody yelse sees from the quarterback, and
- 18:38Speaker 4: so coming into the game, I was like, okay, well,
- 18:40Speaker 4: let's see. They stopped the screens, it didn't let them
- 18:43Speaker 4: do RPOs, and he had a really tough time finding
- 18:46Speaker 4: his guys. And maybe it was just like a bad
- 18:48Speaker 4: game from number sixteen. But it's something that you have
- 18:51Speaker 4: to think about because as much as so many of
- 18:54Speaker 4: us love him, there are some things in his game
- 18:57Speaker 4: that he has to work through.
- 18:57Speaker 3: If he wants to go to that next level.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Their point, he's caught some heat. I meant, we can
- 19:04Speaker 1: we can get moving to the next game. But look,
- 19:06Speaker 1: it's is not that whole draft class when you look
- 19:09Speaker 1: at it, I mean, it has not been good. Uh,
- 19:12Speaker 1: all these guys he has been he has been hell
- 19:15Speaker 1: heralded as the you know, the city on the hill there,
- 19:19Speaker 1: the shining star, the beacon of a draft class that's
- 19:22Speaker 1: been terrible. And now because it's like there's no we
- 19:25Speaker 1: have there's no more arrows you can sling at at
- 19:28Speaker 1: Justin Fields and Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, obviously Mac Jones,
- 19:32Speaker 1: I mean like that, that's all, that's all been done.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And now it's like, Okay, Trevor's kind of the last
- 19:37Speaker 1: man standing, and now everybody's going away, and we've been
- 19:39Speaker 1: looking at all this other stuff, like is this guy
- 19:41Speaker 1: who we thought he was like that that conversation fair
- 19:44Speaker 1: or not? Buck, that's that's started. That conversation absolutely has
- 19:48Speaker 1: started started.
- 19:49Speaker 3: And to me, it was telling that someone would go
- 19:52Speaker 3: on record.
- 19:53Speaker 4: Two people went on record, Nick Bosa and Kyle Shanahan,
- 19:56Speaker 4: Cayle Shanison. He kind of looks like the same guy
- 19:59Speaker 4: we saw two years ago as a rookie, I was like,
- 20:01Speaker 4: uh wow.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Like yeah, well I remember, remember well, you remember you
- 20:06Speaker 1: remember the reports, whether they were accurate or not. Was
- 20:09Speaker 1: that that Shanahan liked U Zach? No, it was it
- 20:15Speaker 1: was Zach Wilson was the was the top quarterback. And
- 20:19Speaker 1: then they like Mac. You know, he like Mac is
- 20:21Speaker 1: the next one. He might get a chance to coach Mac.
- 20:24Speaker 3: There all of them.
- 20:28Speaker 5: Can I just say something as transition to the next game,
- 20:32Speaker 5: I'm just so thankful that now that we are not
- 20:36Speaker 5: at the phase of this program where I still have
- 20:38Speaker 5: to grade Mac Jones every week, and then I have
- 20:40Speaker 5: transition being.
- 20:42Speaker 1: The you pick the right year for that one. Davis Mills,
- 20:48Speaker 1: Rhett was good for Mac Jones and Davis Mills every week.
- 20:52Speaker 5: I'm happy to throw out grades now on the current
- 20:55Speaker 5: Houston Texans quarterback man. Oh is just I mean, it
- 20:59Speaker 5: is so much fun to watch each and I mean
- 21:01Speaker 5: it's the first game that I watch every every Monday
- 21:04Speaker 5: without I mean, like whether we're talking about it or not,
- 21:06Speaker 5: just because what CJ. Stroud is doing is incredible. Now, look,
- 21:09Speaker 5: here's the other thing that I think helps him in
- 21:11Speaker 5: a game like this against Cincinnati, is Devin Singletary went
- 21:14Speaker 5: off and they ran the football better than they have
- 21:17Speaker 5: all season long. So that's one thing. Here's the other thing.
- 21:21Speaker 5: You know, we talk about all that he has done well.
- 21:24Speaker 5: He is leading the He is not just like checking
- 21:27Speaker 5: the ball down and letting his playmakers go at it.
- 21:29Speaker 5: He is throwing the football down the field. The yards
- 21:31Speaker 5: per attempt are up over ten. He's thrown for more
- 21:34Speaker 5: first downs in the league than anybody, all while leading
- 21:37Speaker 5: the league in the fewest interceptions with just two. That's
- 21:40Speaker 5: stuff you just don't see from rookie quarterbacks. I mean,
- 21:43Speaker 5: just a couple of things that stood out. I mean,
- 21:45Speaker 5: like he's got the ability to layer those deep dig
- 21:47Speaker 5: routes I mean over the linebacker and thread it right
- 21:50Speaker 5: into was one early in the game of Dalton Schultz
- 21:52Speaker 5: was beautiful. It's like good pace on it, but an
- 21:54Speaker 5: element of touch too, right. And then when he really
- 21:57Speaker 5: needs to rev up the RPMs man, he can do
- 21:59Speaker 5: that with the best of them. I mean, like how
- 22:02Speaker 5: many how about the amount of play action and bootlegs
- 22:05Speaker 5: he ran in this game that Bobby slowk was drawn up.
- 22:08Speaker 5: I mean, obviously it helps when the when the you know,
- 22:10Speaker 5: the rushing attack is working as good as it was.
- 22:14Speaker 5: The mobility he sees open grass in front of him,
- 22:17Speaker 5: I mean, and shows really good foot quickness to get
- 22:19Speaker 5: out of the pocket and then run for a ten
- 22:21Speaker 5: yard touchdown. Look his interception, you know it was play action.
- 22:26Speaker 5: He turns around, he's got a rusher in his face.
- 22:28Speaker 5: He got sped up a little bit and then just
- 22:30Speaker 5: didn't you know, didn't see the whole picture and missed
- 22:33Speaker 5: cam trailer cam Taylor Britt trailing on a on a
- 22:35Speaker 5: deep over route. But the play action here in this
- 22:38Speaker 5: one I think really stood out to me. He's nine
- 22:40Speaker 5: to fourteen hundred and sixty nine yards in a touchdown,
- 22:42Speaker 5: most productivity on play action of any quarterback this week.
- 22:45Speaker 5: So he's got that working. And man, I'm just telling you, like,
- 22:51Speaker 5: it's bombs away in that offense, and that is so
- 22:54Speaker 5: much fun. I think you got to give a lot
- 22:56Speaker 5: of credit to slowk too, and for bringing out the
- 22:58Speaker 5: best in CJ. He was obviously a really talented guy.
- 23:01Speaker 1: He's been awesome man, and Buck knows him better than
- 23:04Speaker 1: any of us, just from the time he's spent around
- 23:06Speaker 1: him as a high schooler. I saw an interview the
- 23:08Speaker 1: other day because we nailed it on the play. It's
- 23:11Speaker 1: been he's legitimately, you know, in the in the very
- 23:15Speaker 1: very very very small circle of people competing for the MVP.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Like he's in the very tight circle there. It's been
- 23:21Speaker 1: that good. It's been, you know, as good as rookie
- 23:23Speaker 1: quarterback as I've seen all that stuff. The play is excellent.
- 23:26Speaker 1: I saw an interview of the day with him though,
- 23:27Speaker 1: that caught my eye when I was talking to him
- 23:29Speaker 1: about you know, look the S two Test and all that,
- 23:33Speaker 1: all all that conversation that came out, and they asked him,
- 23:37Speaker 1: what would you look for in a quarterback if you
- 23:38Speaker 1: were evaluating quarterbacks?
- 23:40Speaker 2: Yes? Did you see that? So I don't know.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Like so the one thing he's like, look, I'd want
- 23:44Speaker 1: to sit in the room with him and watch tape
- 23:45Speaker 1: see how much he understands football.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Okay, I got that.
- 23:48Speaker 1: But then he said something that we've talked about forever,
- 23:50Speaker 1: which is I would never take a quarterback who only
- 23:52Speaker 1: played one sport, and Buck correct me if I'm wrong.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Rice only played one sport.
- 24:00Speaker 4: I think so he played a little bit of basketball
- 24:03Speaker 4: a little bit, but I don't know if he played
- 24:04Speaker 4: for the High CJ.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Played like they grew up together and they grew up
- 24:08Speaker 1: competing against each other, and it was just I mean,
- 24:11Speaker 1: and Buck had both of them on his seven on seventeen,
- 24:14Speaker 1: but I just I thought that was and I didn't
- 24:16Speaker 1: think he was I'm not saying he was taking a
- 24:18Speaker 1: shot at bright show, but I'm thinking it was kind
- 24:20Speaker 1: of like it was kind of like, how could you
- 24:21Speaker 1: overlook this? Like how did you guys think guy was
- 24:24Speaker 1: a second pick? It wasn't like he fell that far
- 24:25Speaker 1: in the draft.
- 24:26Speaker 4: No, But I think I think just all the conversation,
- 24:29Speaker 4: and I think in a way that's that's his way
- 24:31Speaker 4: of keeping receipts and keeping the conversation going. I think
- 24:35Speaker 4: the main thing when he talked about instincts, he also
- 24:37Speaker 4: talked about making sure that you talk to the teammates
- 24:41Speaker 4: about how they viewed the quarterback and those things. I
- 24:44Speaker 4: think the best part of his game when you hear
- 24:48Speaker 4: his teammates talk about his leadership skills and those things.
- 24:51Speaker 3: I was reading the quotes.
- 24:53Speaker 4: After the game about looking through the interception and how
- 24:55Speaker 4: he just went to the things that hey, guys, it's
- 24:57Speaker 4: so many we got one play at a time. I
- 24:58Speaker 4: got this, I'll figure it out, we'll fit exit or whatever.
- 25:01Speaker 4: To me, the fact that he's been thrown in a
- 25:03Speaker 4: situation where he doesn't have a marque playmaker around him,
- 25:06Speaker 4: and he has had the kind of like.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know about that.
- 25:09Speaker 5: Now take down, let's go.
- 25:12Speaker 1: I mean like, I mean, he's really you're saying, like
- 25:16Speaker 1: someone who's been.
- 25:20Speaker 3: That whatever.
- 25:20Speaker 4: But I think you know because he played without Nico
- 25:23Speaker 4: Collins yesterday, right, he didn't have Nico Collins.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Noah Brown.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I guess, I guess I undergraded Noah Brown.
- 25:29Speaker 2: That's the story.
- 25:32Speaker 4: Yeah, And man, this team has so much confidence that
- 25:36Speaker 4: they've not only worked themselves in the conversation, they're like, well,
- 25:38Speaker 4: they're not going to be one of the top teams
- 25:40Speaker 4: in the draft, but they legitimately have a shot to
- 25:42Speaker 4: win the AFC South By.
- 25:44Speaker 5: The way, Sheldon Rankins might have played the game of
- 25:46Speaker 5: his life yesterday at defensive tackle. And I'm not sure
- 25:48Speaker 5: a lot of people even realized he's on the Texans.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Right, Hey, three sacks?
- 25:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, just unbelievable that he comes in there
- 25:56Speaker 4: like they're they're looked at it. They're talking to town,
- 25:58Speaker 4: they have talked to everyone is beginning to discuss CJ.
- 26:01Speaker 4: Stroud and how this team has kind of come from
- 26:03Speaker 4: out of nowhere's kind of be in the conversation as
- 26:05Speaker 4: a playoff contender.
- 26:06Speaker 3: It's really remarkable.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Yeah, well, look the other side of it, real quick.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Not great for the Bengals. Burrow had a couple of turnovers.
- 26:12Speaker 1: They weren't totally healthy. But no excuse there.
- 26:14Speaker 3: That's again they can't run the ball.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Yeah again they threw. Yeah, Burrow threw for three forty
- 26:21Speaker 1: seven but had the two turnovers. Jamar Chase had a
- 26:24Speaker 1: big day. Tyler Boyd had a big day, but sixty
- 26:27Speaker 1: six rushing yards to Bucky's point there, So that's that's concerning.
- 26:32Speaker 1: And then they couldn't get a stop. I mean, you
- 26:33Speaker 1: couldn't get a stop at the end of the game
- 26:34Speaker 1: when you need to stop. So I'm not gonna plan
- 26:36Speaker 1: on the Bengals. I think they're gonna be okay. They're
- 26:38Speaker 1: coming off of a couple of big wins. They'll probably
- 26:40Speaker 1: do for a little bit of a let down there,
- 26:42Speaker 1: but Houston, as Bucky said, is very much in the
- 26:44Speaker 1: mix to win that division. So big win for them.
- 26:47Speaker 1: All Right, we'll take a break, we'll come back, we'll
- 26:49Speaker 1: jump into the Seattle Washington game. We'll start there right
- 26:53Speaker 1: after this, all right, guys, see how twenty six they
- 27:02Speaker 1: beat the Commanders. Big day for Gino Smith stat wise,
- 27:05Speaker 1: you look down three hundred and sixty nine yards, a
- 27:07Speaker 1: couple of touchdowns. DK Metcalf had a big day, Lockett
- 27:11Speaker 1: had a big day Smith and Jigbo was solid. They
- 27:13Speaker 1: get the game winning field goal at the end there.
- 27:15Speaker 1: They ran the ball well with their two young backs,
- 27:17Speaker 1: with Kenneth Walker and Zach Sharbonay. I went back and
- 27:20Speaker 1: watched the video and I'll get I'll spend a brief
- 27:23Speaker 1: amount of time on the Seahawks before because I want
- 27:24Speaker 1: to get to Washington. It was actually more interesting than
- 27:26Speaker 1: me when I watched the tape. But with with Gino,
- 27:31Speaker 1: he's moving around well like he's you know, it's it's
- 27:34Speaker 1: an underrated aspect of his game. Like he'll he'll kind
- 27:36Speaker 1: of exhaust plays at times. There's times that he'll hold
- 27:38Speaker 1: the ball, maybe take a sack, but he's extending plays.
- 27:41Speaker 1: He's making some things happen. And then they've got guys
- 27:43Speaker 1: that can do stuff with the ball in their hands,
- 27:44Speaker 1: Like it's not only the wide ouse. With DK, we
- 27:47Speaker 1: know how physical and fast he is after the catch.
- 27:49Speaker 1: But then Kenneth Walker what he adds to the passing
- 27:51Speaker 1: game to be able to check the ball down. I
- 27:54Speaker 1: was just thinking about it with the Kenneth Walker aspect
- 27:56Speaker 1: of it. Are you missing the boat if if you
- 28:00Speaker 1: have if you are playing two running backs, most teams
- 28:02Speaker 1: are playing two guys primarily, right, you got two guys.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Doesn't one of.
- 28:06Speaker 1: The two have to be able to make house calls? Like,
- 28:09Speaker 1: doesn't one of the two have to be dynamic and explosive,
- 28:12Speaker 1: Like I'm all for you know, look, instinctive power, you know,
- 28:16Speaker 1: those are great elements in the back. But if I've
- 28:18Speaker 1: got that the other guy buck, I want that guy
- 28:20Speaker 1: to be able to freaking go. And you watch Kenneth Walker,
- 28:23Speaker 1: he can absolutely go. I saw what Jamir Gibbs we
- 28:25Speaker 1: referenced earlier.
- 28:26Speaker 2: He can fly.
- 28:27Speaker 1: You see all these some of these undersized backs that
- 28:29Speaker 1: are making plays each and every week. Like, I just
- 28:31Speaker 1: think that the speed, the speed of the running back
- 28:34Speaker 1: is kind of back.
- 28:35Speaker 2: It's it's back in business.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Oh, it has to be. You have to have the
- 28:38Speaker 3: ability to produce big plays.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Like it's a correlation between explosive plays and putting points
- 28:43Speaker 4: on the board. If you don't have anyone that can
- 28:45Speaker 4: take into distance, it's hard to have ten play drives,
- 28:47Speaker 4: four and five plays at four and five yards at
- 28:49Speaker 4: a time. You need to have at least one back
- 28:51Speaker 4: to have some major juice. And I would suggest two
- 28:53Speaker 4: out of you three, you need to have some big
- 28:55Speaker 4: play potential.
- 28:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, and then you saw it, you know,
- 28:58Speaker 5: in the in the past game with Kenneth Walker right
- 29:00Speaker 5: on that sixty and he just he was out the gate.
- 29:04Speaker 5: And you know you saw that at Michigan State that
- 29:06Speaker 5: final year. I mean, he had a ton of explosive plays,
- 29:09Speaker 5: you know, a bunch of them in the run game,
- 29:11Speaker 5: more so in the past game. But he Yeah, that
- 29:13Speaker 5: is a terrific one two punch because Charbona makes you
- 29:16Speaker 5: feel it right when you're gonna come at him, He's
- 29:18Speaker 5: gonna make you feel it. And Kenneth Walker has has everything,
- 29:21Speaker 5: all the juice you want. Had a running back that's
- 29:23Speaker 5: a that is a potent attack, and a physical offensive
- 29:25Speaker 5: line too up there in Seattle.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and and an offensive line that I'm I don't know,
- 29:29Speaker 1: if they had a get together. I would imagine like
- 29:32Speaker 1: if I'm if I'm in that offensive line group and
- 29:34Speaker 1: I know, I've got the commanders coming up, and they
- 29:36Speaker 1: want to trade Montes sweat and Chase hung before.
- 29:38Speaker 2: You play him. Hey, I'm good, let's have at. Let's
- 29:40Speaker 2: have at.
- 29:41Speaker 1: We'll have a little Mexican food and maybe have a
- 29:43Speaker 1: little get together with the offensive line. Just kind of
- 29:45Speaker 1: enjoy our enjoy our evening together. Because that does not
- 29:48Speaker 1: look like the same Washington defensive front. They couldn't get
- 29:50Speaker 1: any pressure. Sam Howell played good guys, He's a good player. Right,
- 29:53Speaker 1: I'll jump over to you on this one. But I'm
- 29:55Speaker 1: watching him going like they've got a quarter.
- 29:56Speaker 2: He's their guy.
- 29:57Speaker 5: He can be I feel like that that that's the
- 30:00Speaker 5: part of the piece of the discussion here. I mean
- 30:01Speaker 5: the way that he leads him down and throws that
- 30:03Speaker 5: touchdown late to to kind of give him through. I mean,
- 30:06Speaker 5: big t Diami Brown, you know, love that obviously, the
- 30:09Speaker 5: built in connection there and all that, But I mean,
- 30:12Speaker 5: how about the off schedule play just to get it
- 30:15Speaker 5: to be to Brian Robinson for the first touchdown. Now,
- 30:18Speaker 5: they went quiet for way too long in that game offensively,
- 30:21Speaker 5: I don't know if you put all that on how though.
- 30:23Speaker 5: I mean, he's been efficient, Yeah, he's thrown some picks.
- 30:26Speaker 5: He's been sacked a bunch. They have got to improve
- 30:29Speaker 5: that offensive line like that is now now. I mean,
- 30:31Speaker 5: like I was gonna say it's priority one, but I
- 30:33Speaker 5: don't have any edge rushers anymore, so like it's kind.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Of line I want to help the quarterback out.
- 30:38Speaker 5: Yeah, you got to, and we'll get to that. I
- 30:40Speaker 5: know we got we'll have a pretty interesting discussion on
- 30:42Speaker 5: helping out your young quarterback on the video show this week.
- 30:45Speaker 5: But Sam Howe, I think has proven at this point
- 30:49Speaker 5: in the season that he deserves the opportunity to be
- 30:52Speaker 5: QB one going into next year. And now it's about supporting.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Yeah, who knew you do, Caroline? Who knew?
- 30:57Speaker 1: Bucke's Alma Waters a quarterback factory? Drake may coming. We
- 31:00Speaker 1: got Sam Howell playing great? Who knew?
- 31:02Speaker 4: And he looks he's even connecting with Theammy Brown Toury connection.
- 31:08Speaker 4: So like Sam Howe, I would say it has exceeded
- 31:10Speaker 4: expectations because it hasn't been perfect for him, and you're
- 31:12Speaker 4: right that offensive line is very leaky, but his leadership ability,
- 31:15Speaker 4: but his passing skills he certainly has it.
- 31:18Speaker 3: They got to steal the fact he's a fifth round pick.
- 31:20Speaker 4: And the amount of money they're paying him for what
- 31:22Speaker 4: they're getting, it should allow them to build up the
- 31:24Speaker 4: rest of their team.
- 31:25Speaker 5: Yeah, good point.
- 31:26Speaker 1: All right, let's let's keep it rolling here. Bucky, you're
- 31:28Speaker 1: up next. This is a game again. I try and
- 31:30Speaker 1: get as many of these as I can't watch as
- 31:32Speaker 1: much tape. I did not see any of this game.
- 31:34Speaker 1: I have not seen any tape of this game. So
- 31:35Speaker 1: I'm curious to see what went down here with the
- 31:38Speaker 1: Browns coming back and beating the Ravens thirty three to
- 31:40Speaker 1: thirty one.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Such a weird game, right, But so you look up
- 31:42Speaker 4: and I mean the Ravens are just shell lacking the Browns.
- 31:45Speaker 4: I mean, just up and down the field. You're seeing
- 31:47Speaker 4: Lamar Jackson half his way. You see an early run
- 31:50Speaker 4: from Keyton Mitchell. He does what he does evidently, which
- 31:53Speaker 4: is a breakout for thirty five plus yard run for
- 31:56Speaker 4: a touchdown early and the.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Other speed guy sitting all speed guys, you know.
- 31:59Speaker 4: And so you see that, you see a vintage Odell
- 32:01Speaker 4: Beckham junior moment. He catches the slang and throws up
- 32:04Speaker 4: the deuces, and you begin to think that the Ravens
- 32:09Speaker 4: are gonna blow them out, and then the game just
- 32:11Speaker 4: kind of takes an odd turn in the late stages.
- 32:14Speaker 4: Deshaun Watson, after struggling the first part of the game,
- 32:18Speaker 4: he kind of finds a rhythm. They make a couple
- 32:20Speaker 4: of plays and they find themselves in it. And then
- 32:23Speaker 4: DeShawn Washson earned a little, I would say a lot
- 32:27Speaker 4: of respect from his teammates and his coaches just by
- 32:29Speaker 4: hanging in there and battling. It wasn't pretty, but he
- 32:31Speaker 4: made enough plays to put him back in the mix,
- 32:34Speaker 4: and lo and behold, they walk away with the win
- 32:36Speaker 4: and a gang of confidence, thinking that they may be
- 32:39Speaker 4: able to compete despite all the deficiencies that they have
- 32:42Speaker 4: on their offensive side of the ball.
- 32:44Speaker 5: Yeah, and you know, you love to feel like you
- 32:48Speaker 5: all you've got way up there. I feel like you
- 32:50Speaker 5: love to keep a little lower, a little lower, Yeah,
- 32:54Speaker 5: go all the way down even just put it on you.
- 32:59Speaker 5: I think with Baltimore, like, I love that they can
- 33:02Speaker 5: put the points up right. I love that they can
- 33:03Speaker 5: come out And obviously Kyle Hamilton's work at the beginning
- 33:07Speaker 5: of the game, I mean that was that was a
- 33:09Speaker 5: lot right, incredible athleticism. But I think I just I
- 33:12Speaker 5: would love the Ravens to still have that ability to
- 33:14Speaker 5: put a game away in the fourth quarter, like you
- 33:16Speaker 5: were up fourteen points in the fourth quarter, Like, let's
- 33:18Speaker 5: salt that thing away the way that we've seen the
- 33:20Speaker 5: Ravens ground and pound, like, I love that they could
- 33:22Speaker 5: throw it around a little bit more this year, but
- 33:25Speaker 5: I still want to see them assert their dominance, you
- 33:28Speaker 5: know in the ground game.
- 33:29Speaker 2: What happened on the.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Pick six, because again I'm looking at the notes on
- 33:32Speaker 1: the game. I haven't seen the game.
- 33:33Speaker 4: I just got deflected, log got deflected, bug got deflected.
- 33:37Speaker 4: K Newsom comes out of know where, it makes a
- 33:39Speaker 4: great play, goes and takes the other way.
- 33:41Speaker 3: But Red, you bring up a big point.
- 33:43Speaker 4: All three of the Ravens' losses have come when they've
- 33:46Speaker 4: had leads, significant leads, and they haven't been Pittsburgh.
- 33:49Speaker 2: They blew that game.
- 33:50Speaker 3: Yeah so so so now I'm beginning to wonder.
- 33:53Speaker 4: I know they wanted to move away from that run
- 33:55Speaker 4: heavy attack, that they would utilize it under Greg Roman,
- 33:58Speaker 4: but I do want to if they were running ball
- 34:00Speaker 4: like that where they have lost these games.
- 34:02Speaker 5: And so once once they developed the fourteen point lead,
- 34:05Speaker 5: they ran the ball three more times from nine minutes
- 34:08Speaker 5: on in the fourth quarter. Interesting, Yeah, three times, just weird,
- 34:12Speaker 5: Like it just does when they're built to do that.
- 34:14Speaker 5: They're built to put a team away more than anybody.
- 34:17Speaker 4: They should be their mentality should be able to grind
- 34:19Speaker 4: it out and kind of punch people in the ribs
- 34:21Speaker 4: and kind of get them.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Up out of there. But but they haven't.
- 34:24Speaker 4: And so you now look at this division and it's
- 34:27Speaker 4: all muddled up and they have a tough game.
- 34:29Speaker 3: I think next week they play the Bengals. Are the Steelers.
- 34:34Speaker 3: They have another division game, they have another division.
- 34:36Speaker 5: Game, Bengals. Yeah. So so now that's Thursday night.
- 34:41Speaker 1: It's great day. We got a good one Thursday night.
- 34:44Speaker 3: That's like that's like a loser leave town match, and
- 34:47Speaker 3: like so.
- 34:49Speaker 4: It's a big game because you're gonna look up and
- 34:52Speaker 4: you're representative from them, you know if the Pittsburgh Stellers.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Oh maybe, Man, that's what it's gonna be. All right,
- 35:01Speaker 2: let's keep it rolling here. RTT. What's the next game?
- 35:03Speaker 5: Yeah, next one is the twenty twenty three debut of
- 35:08Speaker 5: one Kyler Murray for the Arizona Cardinals getting the first start.
- 35:13Speaker 5: What kind of a wacky wild world that's been at
- 35:15Speaker 5: quarterback in Arizona, right, I mean, we thought for so
- 35:18Speaker 5: long it was going to be Colt McCoy starting week one.
- 35:20Speaker 5: He then gets jettison. Josh Dabbs comes in week before,
- 35:24Speaker 5: starts the first eight games, Clayton tuone starts one at
- 35:26Speaker 5: the disaster, and then Murray comes back kind of to
- 35:30Speaker 5: save the day here week ten. Now, look, there was
- 35:32Speaker 5: definitely a little bit of rust. He was off kind
- 35:35Speaker 5: of uncharacteristically on a few throws that he normally makes.
- 35:38Speaker 5: But man, he had He had a beautiful sideline throw
- 35:42Speaker 5: to Trey McBride, who, by the way, is coming. He
- 35:45Speaker 5: started to play as a tight end now like Colorado
- 35:47Speaker 5: State second round pick I think two years ago. Now,
- 35:49Speaker 5: I mean, is really coming to play.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Now.
- 35:52Speaker 5: There's some I thought he had which was kind of
- 35:54Speaker 5: I kind of view Kyler as as a little bit
- 35:57Speaker 5: of a you know, a wild card in terms of
- 36:00Speaker 5: fundamentals and mechanics, right, because he can do it from
- 36:02Speaker 5: all over the place. But he had some textbook mechanical
- 36:05Speaker 5: stuff that looks really good. Rolling left gadget play. He stops,
- 36:08Speaker 5: resets his feet, gets his hips in the right direction,
- 36:10Speaker 5: throws a perfect strike all the way across the field
- 36:13Speaker 5: for an explosive play, but then still has some of
- 36:16Speaker 5: those those throws were unnecessarily kind of like fades away
- 36:20Speaker 5: throws one that goes incomplete. But I think the biggest
- 36:23Speaker 5: revelation in this game his knee is okay, Like it
- 36:29Speaker 5: is it is all good, Like you see him take
- 36:31Speaker 5: it down and scramble when he sees open grass. He's
- 36:34Speaker 5: got a read option that he pulls for a touchdown
- 36:36Speaker 5: down inside the ten. And then that wild run right
- 36:39Speaker 5: on third and ten, he runs seventy four yards to
- 36:44Speaker 5: pick up I think fourteen on a conversion. And by
- 36:47Speaker 5: the way, DJ, you'll love this on the GPS, he
- 36:49Speaker 5: went over twenty miles an hour on that throw. I
- 36:53Speaker 5: think that that the theme of this thing is Kyler
- 36:56Speaker 5: makes the Cardinals dangerous against any opponent.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Here.
- 36:59Speaker 5: Now the question is what does this do for them
- 37:02Speaker 5: from a from a roster development standpoint, Like you know,
- 37:06Speaker 5: like we're are you going to see enoughing Kyler over
- 37:08Speaker 5: the course of the next eight weeks where you're like.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Dude, that that that that decision might be made for him,
- 37:12Speaker 1: right because if the season and today they're picking fourth.
- 37:15Speaker 5: Yeah, you're gonna be you're gonna be out of luck.
- 37:17Speaker 2: So they're out of the they're out of that market.
- 37:19Speaker 2: So that that, you know, it's interesting.
- 37:21Speaker 1: We'll start keeping an eye on the draft order as
- 37:23Speaker 1: we you know, as we go through the second half
- 37:24Speaker 1: of the season here, because that's a storyline we got
- 37:26Speaker 1: to keep an eye on. But you know, I'm looking
- 37:28Speaker 1: at the other side.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Man.
- 37:30Speaker 1: It's for as much as the Jets get talked about
- 37:33Speaker 1: as being quarterback challenged, man, the Falcons just they're wasting
- 37:37Speaker 1: a lot of good players on that side of the ball.
- 37:40Speaker 5: Three catches for Drake London, three catches for Kyle Pitts.
- 37:44Speaker 2: At least they gave b Jon Robinson the ball this week.
- 37:46Speaker 5: Twenty two carries. Yeah, that was nice.
- 37:48Speaker 1: He did good stuff. Not enough five yards on a touchdown.
- 37:51Speaker 1: They only threw him at once. But I mean, I
- 37:53Speaker 1: don't know, they're frush. I don't want to We we
- 37:54Speaker 1: kind of talk about the Falcons every week.
- 37:57Speaker 2: A little frustrated. Somebody's frustrated.
- 37:59Speaker 1: They're frustrating Buck when you see that many good players
- 38:01Speaker 1: at the skill positions and they're just there's something like,
- 38:05Speaker 1: can you you tell me, Buck, if you if you
- 38:06Speaker 1: had all the those bills. That bills offense you around,
- 38:09Speaker 1: what if you didn't have a quarterback, you didn't have
- 38:11Speaker 1: Jim Kelly there at that time those guys, you guys been.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Pulling your hair out.
- 38:14Speaker 5: Well this one for a second too, and sorry bucketting
- 38:17Speaker 5: me to cutch off. So we're getting to the point
- 38:20Speaker 5: where the Falcons are gonna have to make a call
- 38:22Speaker 5: on Kyle Pitts's fifth year option, Like it's gonna come up.
- 38:25Speaker 5: I think it might come up.
- 38:26Speaker 1: It up because you can trade him. You just pick
- 38:27Speaker 1: it up, because even if you don't know how to
- 38:29Speaker 1: use him, you'll be.
- 38:30Speaker 5: Get do you think, oh I think?
- 38:32Speaker 2: I mean at worst you get a one two.
- 38:34Speaker 5: At worst you're.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Getting it to you might get a late you might
- 38:36Speaker 1: get a mid to late one.
- 38:38Speaker 5: Well, just with the way that offense is constructed to play,
- 38:41Speaker 5: I mean, like does it matter if you have him
- 38:43Speaker 5: or you don't in Atlanta? I mean, why not go
- 38:46Speaker 5: get I mean, if you're not going to use it
- 38:47Speaker 5: that way, they might as well, you know, try to
- 38:49Speaker 5: get something for him, right.
- 38:50Speaker 1: I know one thing I'd call in the Charger games,
- 38:52Speaker 1: he can come to the Chargers because I would love
- 38:54Speaker 1: to see him with that all.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Just add another add another tree topper to that list. Yeah,
- 39:01Speaker 2: it is, it is.
- 39:03Speaker 4: I could see the frustration when it comes to Atlantic,
- 39:06Speaker 4: because you would think we all thought this offense was
- 39:07Speaker 4: gonna be high powered. I thought they'd be able to
- 39:09Speaker 4: score points regardless who the quarterback was. I thought'd be
- 39:11Speaker 4: able to the explosiveness that they had on the outside,
- 39:13Speaker 4: and they just haven't been able to do it. Arthur
- 39:15Speaker 4: Smith is obviously frustrated the quarterback play has not been
- 39:18Speaker 4: what he wanted. Towne Heinekee was the quarterback. Then he
- 39:20Speaker 4: gets hurt. So then Desert Ritter comes back in. He's
- 39:22Speaker 4: just not good enough. We'll see, because this is going
- 39:26Speaker 4: to be one where they rude the lost opportunity to
- 39:29Speaker 4: win the division because the division is right different than
- 39:31Speaker 4: the take.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Man, they know that get it done now.
- 39:33Speaker 1: They can't get out of their wrong way, all right,
- 39:35Speaker 1: the Vikings they beat the Saints. The Josh Dobbs movie.
- 39:40Speaker 1: You know, this is like a Disney movie. Man, the
- 39:42Speaker 1: way this thing's all coming together for him after this trade,
- 39:45Speaker 1: gets thrust right into the lineup, has a solid game,
- 39:48Speaker 1: and this one it was a slow start. Took him
- 39:49Speaker 1: a while to get going. Watching the tape on that
- 39:52Speaker 1: I was curious to see how much they were going
- 39:54Speaker 1: to use some design quarterback runs. He's so athletic, and
- 39:56Speaker 1: I saw the eight carries for forty four yards, but
- 39:58Speaker 1: just two zone riad keepers.
- 40:00Speaker 2: That was it.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Everything else is kind of organic coming out of the play,
- 40:03Speaker 1: and he's able to scramble and make some things happen there.
- 40:06Speaker 1: But the other thing I was thinking of, and I
- 40:08Speaker 1: was talking to read about this a little earlier, Buck,
- 40:10Speaker 1: but I mean the Vikings, maybe more so anybody else.
- 40:14Speaker 1: They might have executed like the two best trades of
- 40:17Speaker 1: the last few years. And and not say that didn't
- 40:20Speaker 1: work out for the other teams, because obviously Stefan Diggs
- 40:22Speaker 1: has been a good player for the for the Bills.
- 40:24Speaker 1: But in that trade they get Justin Jefferson, So that's
- 40:28Speaker 1: they take a young they get rid of the veteran,
- 40:29Speaker 1: take the young player. Then they trade a pick for TJ. Hockinson,
- 40:33Speaker 1: which has been an excellent player for them. He had
- 40:35Speaker 1: a huge day man eleven for a buck thirty four
- 40:37Speaker 1: in a touchdown, And when I watched the tape of him,
- 40:40Speaker 1: I loved him as a blocker coming out, and I
- 40:41Speaker 1: thought he was going to be a solid tight end.
- 40:44Speaker 1: He maybe hasn't been as dominant a blocker as I
- 40:47Speaker 1: thought he would, but he's been a better receiver then
- 40:50Speaker 1: I thought he would.
- 40:51Speaker 2: But he's a good.
- 40:51Speaker 1: Player, and I saw some savvy on him, like he
- 40:55Speaker 1: can really get up on your toes and then he's
- 40:57Speaker 1: able to lean and nod and stick and go. He
- 40:59Speaker 1: he's polished right now. I almost wonder if if Justin
- 41:03Speaker 1: Jefferson's helped him some it just to develop some more
- 41:06Speaker 1: nuance and some more polish to his game.
- 41:08Speaker 4: I wondered, I mean, I wondered that when it comes
- 41:10Speaker 4: to that, Like Dave Hockinson talked about the connection here
- 41:13Speaker 4: and Josh Dobbs have evidently the off season they used.
- 41:15Speaker 3: To throw to one another over and over and over again.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Maybe they shared the same agent.
- 41:19Speaker 4: Mike Mack might be both of their representatives, but they
- 41:22Speaker 4: thrown to each other going back to Dopps. Unless I
- 41:27Speaker 4: misremember the evaluation, I don't remember him running a lot
- 41:31Speaker 4: at Tennessee. I remember he ran some, but I don't
- 41:33Speaker 4: remember him being the choice.
- 41:35Speaker 2: But he could, but he could, but he could run
- 41:37Speaker 2: like the.
- 41:38Speaker 4: Dude that I'm seeing in the Minnesota Vikers uniform. I'm like, hey, man,
- 41:40Speaker 4: this dude is like super athletic with a little swag
- 41:43Speaker 4: and a little flare. I feel like he's fully come
- 41:45Speaker 4: into the confident version of the quarterback that is playing.
- 41:50Speaker 4: And look, it'll be interesting what happens for him at
- 41:54Speaker 4: the end of the season. But this is a really
- 41:56Speaker 4: solid Minnesota team and I don't think we can speak
- 41:59Speaker 4: enough about but they've done defensively to really up the annie.
- 42:03Speaker 3: Brian Floyes has really been a nice get for them.
- 42:05Speaker 4: They're playing really good defense, They're really throwing a bunch
- 42:08Speaker 4: of things at opposing quarterbacks, and they're going to kind
- 42:11Speaker 4: of climb into conversation as a playoff team because Kevin
- 42:14Speaker 4: O'Connor has done a really good job.
- 42:15Speaker 3: And then she said, what are they? Are? They one
- 42:18Speaker 3: and four with without with Justin Jefferson, but five and
- 42:22Speaker 3: zero without him.
- 42:23Speaker 2: It's pretty crazy.
- 42:25Speaker 5: When he gets that doesn't mean anything to me.
- 42:28Speaker 2: Du back, No, no, no.
- 42:30Speaker 4: But when he gets back though, because remember early New
- 42:32Speaker 4: Year they were kind of force feed him, is this
- 42:34Speaker 4: now a more balanced offense when it comes to ball
- 42:37Speaker 4: distribution when Justin Jefferson comes.
- 42:39Speaker 1: I looked up the notes because you got me thinking.
- 42:41Speaker 1: So I'm back to twenty seventeen, Josh Dobbs was six
- 42:44Speaker 1: zho three three two sixteen ran a four to six
- 42:47Speaker 1: four my notes gun spread, some half rolls, some zone reads.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Some QB sweeps. So he did run the ball. I'll
- 42:54Speaker 2: get there. He can avoid climb in the pocket.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Full field you'll see full field read is gonna win delivery.
- 43:01Speaker 2: How about the topp are here, guys the last line
- 43:03Speaker 2: I'm on. My thing had a great Senior Bowl week.
- 43:06Speaker 5: Swear we do this, We do this every week, Like
- 43:10Speaker 5: what is again?
- 43:11Speaker 1: I guess that that that you know, that week of
- 43:13Speaker 1: practice for the quarterbacks, and I guess we got to
- 43:17Speaker 1: start we got to start putting more into that man,
- 43:19Speaker 1: because I just keep seeing this, well Dak Prescott him
- 43:21Speaker 1: like there's there's I swear we've done this seven times this.
- 43:24Speaker 5: Year where we've talked about that, and we're going to
- 43:25Speaker 5: see more dudes, more high level dudes now with now
- 43:29Speaker 5: being eligible. But let me just one quick thing on
- 43:31Speaker 5: the Saints as the part of that game. You know,
- 43:34Speaker 5: the Saints kind of had a little brief resurgence there
- 43:37Speaker 5: the last couple of weeks, and I thought, you know,
- 43:39Speaker 5: at least in my opinion, Taysom Hill in the rediscovery
- 43:42Speaker 5: of his abilities as a Swiss Army knife type of weapon.
- 43:45Speaker 5: It was a big part of that resurgence offensively.
- 43:48Speaker 3: And come back.
- 43:48Speaker 2: In this game, he's got three touches.
- 43:50Speaker 5: Yeah, ran the ball once, was targeted a couple of times,
- 43:54Speaker 5: caught two balls. Michael Thomas, by the way, played just
- 43:57Speaker 5: two snaps in this game. I know there was some
- 44:01Speaker 5: weird kind of legal legal stuff going on that week.
- 44:03Speaker 5: I don't know how much that might have played into it,
- 44:05Speaker 5: but at Perry, by the way, had a really good
- 44:08Speaker 5: East West Shrine Bowl week. Yeah, at Perry came in big,
- 44:12Speaker 5: big frame at his first career touchdown. But I just
- 44:15Speaker 5: still think they've got to find ways to get taste,
- 44:17Speaker 5: get the ball in Taysom Hill's hands one way or another.
- 44:19Speaker 5: I know, like you can't spend the entire game and
- 44:22Speaker 5: some of those gadget looks with him, but man, they're
- 44:25Speaker 5: different when he's contributing and impacting the game.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 44:29Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, he's a solid player. They need him
- 44:32Speaker 4: because he has been impactful with the games.
- 44:34Speaker 3: That they played.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Well.
- 44:35Speaker 4: He's had a big role in the offense as a
- 44:37Speaker 4: runner and as a gadget utility player.
- 44:40Speaker 1: All Right, last one we're going to hit on in
- 44:42Speaker 1: depth here, and that is the Steelers beating the Packers
- 44:45Speaker 1: Buck as you mentioned a little bit earlier, kind of
- 44:47Speaker 1: joking but not joking. Steelers has got a good chance
- 44:49Speaker 1: to win this division.
- 44:50Speaker 4: MAN six and three DJ six and three, and that
- 44:53Speaker 4: they find a way to win without gaining more yards
- 44:56Speaker 4: than their opponent. It is the biggest magic trick that
- 44:59Speaker 4: we have seen. If they can hold the opponent to
- 45:02Speaker 4: under twenty two points, they find a way to win.
- 45:04Speaker 4: And they did it again with the Packers. They just
- 45:07Speaker 4: kind of piece millet together, hodgepodge, whatever you want to
- 45:10Speaker 4: call it.
- 45:11Speaker 3: They were able to get two hundred and five rushing yards,
- 45:13Speaker 3: which is significant.
- 45:15Speaker 4: Jayden Warren has kind of been the guy. It's kind
- 45:16Speaker 4: of funny because and watching them feel level. Jayden Warren
- 45:19Speaker 4: no more juice, Yeah, some juice. He makes some things happen.
- 45:22Speaker 4: But they're finally running the ball. With both of those guys,
- 45:27Speaker 4: they kind of they committed in this game to running
- 45:29Speaker 4: the football and made life easier for Kenny Pickett. If
- 45:32Speaker 4: they're going to be this defensive led team and they
- 45:35Speaker 4: can run the football, they can make life miserable because
- 45:37Speaker 4: they can get the game into the fourth quarter, and
- 45:39Speaker 4: they have shown that they are very comfortable in these
- 45:41Speaker 4: uncomfortable moments where you have to get a play in
- 45:44Speaker 4: the fourth quarter. Mike Tomlin continues to pull out these
- 45:48Speaker 4: rabbits out of pass. I don't know how he does it,
- 45:50Speaker 4: but they're six and three and it's probably one of
- 45:52Speaker 4: the biggest miracles that I've ever seen.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I was watching them or watching the tape of
- 45:57Speaker 1: this game. I tweeted out Brodick Jones and he's he's
- 46:01Speaker 1: he is a stud like they. I don't know what
- 46:03Speaker 1: took him so long to get him in the lineup
- 46:05Speaker 1: and get him going, but there they had I think
- 46:07Speaker 1: eight explosive runs and I want to say six or
- 46:10Speaker 1: were right behind him, or he's either got the key
- 46:12Speaker 1: block on the backside cutting guys off, or he's working
- 46:14Speaker 1: up to a linebacker. He's a key, key component to
- 46:17Speaker 1: why this run game has has got cranked up so
- 46:20Speaker 1: and not a surprise there. I think, you know, Omar
- 46:22Speaker 1: Khn and Andy Wide or good friends, they've known each
- 46:25Speaker 1: other forever. They get paired up. They I think they
- 46:29Speaker 1: believe Omar has seen the Steelers when they were really good,
- 46:32Speaker 1: how they were a line of scrimmage. Team Andy is
- 46:34Speaker 1: is Buck and you know as well read from Philadelphia
- 46:38Speaker 1: and Baltimore understands this is not rocket science, right like you,
- 46:42Speaker 1: I was talking about Detroit earlier. You went at the
- 46:43Speaker 1: line of scrimmage. You invest in the offensive line, you
- 46:46Speaker 1: invest in the defensive line, and you go off you go.
- 46:49Speaker 1: And I was even thinking about, you know, watching this game,
- 46:52Speaker 1: I was comparing the Steelers, who the way that they play,
- 46:57Speaker 1: and I'm sitting here scratching my head, going, why aren't
- 47:01Speaker 1: the Jets trying to do this like that? That doesn't
- 47:03Speaker 1: make any sense to me. The Jets are throwing it
- 47:05Speaker 1: twice as much as they're running it. They can't run
- 47:07Speaker 1: the ball. Zack Wilson's there, you know, their best. You know,
- 47:10Speaker 1: I think they are the most yards on the ground
- 47:11Speaker 1: this last week. But I'm sitting there going like this
- 47:14Speaker 1: is the Steelers know who they are. They don't care
- 47:17Speaker 1: about style points. It's all bottom line. We're gonna we're
- 47:20Speaker 1: gonna try and beat you up as best we can,
- 47:23Speaker 1: and we're gonna have one more point than you do
- 47:25Speaker 1: at the end of the day.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Book it looks.
- 47:27Speaker 3: I love it. It is.
- 47:29Speaker 5: It's funny and finally, finally, you know, like just understanding.
- 47:33Speaker 5: It took you know, as you mentioned, it took a
- 47:34Speaker 5: while to get proderct Jones in the lineup. It took him.
- 47:36Speaker 5: It took a while to realize like, hey, you know,
- 47:39Speaker 5: when we could pound this thing, you know we're gonna
- 47:41Speaker 5: be in the game. We're going to control the pace
- 47:43Speaker 5: of the game. So even if we're not putting up
- 47:45Speaker 5: four hundred and fifty yards a game, we're going to
- 47:47Speaker 5: control the game and be in it at the end
- 47:50Speaker 5: and have a chance to win it at the end,
- 47:51Speaker 5: which you know, like they did here and then they
- 47:54Speaker 5: got a big play from the defense, uh Monte case
- 47:56Speaker 5: and then interception on Jordan Love at the end of
- 47:58Speaker 5: the game. So I I like this formula for Pittsburgh.
- 48:02Speaker 5: It just fits Buck.
- 48:03Speaker 1: They know who they are, man. I mean, I think
- 48:05Speaker 1: you kind of get you talked earlier, Buck, you brought
- 48:08Speaker 1: up a great point about the Lions. I actually said,
- 48:10Speaker 1: this is funny because I said this during the broadcast
- 48:12Speaker 1: of the game and you echoed it, which is, I'm
- 48:15Speaker 1: a believer and some people think it's hokier cliche.
- 48:17Speaker 2: I'm a believer that you take on the personality of
- 48:19Speaker 2: your head coach.
- 48:20Speaker 1: I don't think that's I don't think that's some goofy,
- 48:23Speaker 1: you know, cliche fans speak. I think that's real and
- 48:26Speaker 1: I think that if you look at Detroit, that is
- 48:28Speaker 1: Dan Campbell. His identity sprinkled all over that team and
- 48:31Speaker 1: how they play. I don't know if it was say
- 48:33Speaker 1: a team that epitomizes that more than the Pittsburgh Steelers
- 48:36Speaker 1: of Mike Tomlin.
- 48:37Speaker 4: Yeah, just man, look at a no blink. They're not
- 48:39Speaker 4: fearful of anything. They take on all the challenges. You
- 48:42Speaker 4: don't hear many excuses coming from their end, and they
- 48:44Speaker 4: just kind of play that way like it is ugly.
- 48:47Speaker 4: It's kind of like that muckball. They did talk about it,
- 48:49Speaker 4: but they kind of embrace it. And I think in
- 48:51Speaker 4: that city you can do it because Pittsburgh they're bottom
- 48:54Speaker 4: line city and you talk about just winning no matter
- 48:57Speaker 4: what it looks like, don't worry about style points. They
- 49:00Speaker 4: do it, but they're going to mess around and have
- 49:02Speaker 4: enough confidence where everyone else around them is going to
- 49:05Speaker 4: They're going to give wrap them the division and we're
- 49:07Speaker 4: gonna look up. They're gonna be a top four seed
- 49:10Speaker 4: and everyone's gonna say, how were they able to get
- 49:13Speaker 4: this done without the offensive efficiency that you would expect
- 49:16Speaker 4: a high end team to have.
- 49:18Speaker 2: You guys play ping pong, by the way, Oh yeah, I.
- 49:20Speaker 3: Can play a little ping fairy.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Well yeah, yeah, I knew Bucky hand eye.
- 49:24Speaker 2: You know you can tell Boys and Girls Club. Boys
- 49:27Speaker 2: and girls play.
- 49:28Speaker 1: The Boys and Girls Club too. It was just I
- 49:31Speaker 1: think it might have been when I was growing up, though,
- 49:32Speaker 1: I think it might even have just been the boys club.
- 49:34Speaker 2: That's how it was. They boys.
- 49:42Speaker 1: But do you remember, I mean you've played against Buck,
- 49:45Speaker 1: you know, you play against those guys. Were like, I'm
- 49:48Speaker 1: spinning it and I'm cutting it and then the guy
- 49:50Speaker 1: on the other side just go think think your men
- 49:52Speaker 1: hit it back over, just waiting for you to hit
- 49:54Speaker 1: it off the table, hit it into the net.
- 49:55Speaker 2: That's all I done. That's the Pittsburgh Steelers in this division.
- 49:58Speaker 5: That's to be fun, kid, fun.
- 50:01Speaker 1: We're just gonna get it over the net. Eventually, you're
- 50:03Speaker 1: gonna try and do something cute. You're gonna try and
- 50:05Speaker 1: slam it and you're gonna miss. You're gonna try and
- 50:07Speaker 1: put some backspen. You're gonna hit the net, and the
- 50:09Speaker 1: Steelers just.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Good, think think, think, that's it. What's the score? Oh,
- 50:12Speaker 2: twenty one sixteen?
- 50:14Speaker 3: See later?
- 50:14Speaker 2: Good game?
- 50:16Speaker 5: All right?
- 50:17Speaker 1: Anything else you guys want to have from these other games?
- 50:19Speaker 1: We've got Colts, Pats, Jets, Raiders, let's not do that, Titans, Bucks, Giants, Cowboys.
- 50:24Speaker 2: Anything you want to hit.
- 50:25Speaker 5: On Ceedee Lamb. I mean, I think anybody who questioned
- 50:30Speaker 5: Ceedee Lamb's you know, status as a number one wide
- 50:33Speaker 5: receiver in this league earlier in the year is I
- 50:36Speaker 5: think the only dude since nineteen seventy that's had three
- 50:39Speaker 5: consecutive games of ten or more catches, one hundred and
- 50:41Speaker 5: fifty more receiving yards, and plus he ran one in
- 50:44Speaker 5: They they're obviously emphasizing getting him the football, which pays off.
- 50:49Speaker 5: He's had some of the it has been the most
- 50:51Speaker 5: productive stretch of any Cowboys receiver in Cowboys franchise history.
- 50:54Speaker 5: It has some pretty good ones, I think. So it's
- 50:58Speaker 5: that they're they're rocket and and obviously the Giants are
- 51:01Speaker 5: in major trouble.
- 51:03Speaker 1: Yeah, they got some work to do. Uh, it's kind
- 51:06Speaker 1: of a mess. Buck, Colts, Patriots, Mac Jones.
- 51:09Speaker 2: I think that's it.
- 51:10Speaker 1: I mean, as we're hasn't been announced, i'd be shocked
- 51:12Speaker 1: if he's starting next week.
- 51:14Speaker 4: Man, just just so bad, like how did it go
- 51:16Speaker 4: so interaction like just Bill, yeah, yeah, just all bad.
- 51:22Speaker 4: And just to hear him afterwards, just man, he just
- 51:25Speaker 4: sounds like the dog has been beaten to a pulp.
- 51:29Speaker 3: You know, it just doesn't have any confidence.
- 51:30Speaker 4: And to think that he was a pro Bowl player,
- 51:32Speaker 4: a player that had him in the playoffs as a rookie,
- 51:34Speaker 4: and to see where he's at now is look, man,
- 51:37Speaker 4: it's almost it's a sad state of affairs. But it's
- 51:39Speaker 4: a sad state of affairs in New England because you
- 51:41Speaker 4: see him team and.
- 51:43Speaker 5: This is well, look, you've got guys, you've got the
- 51:45Speaker 5: fans clamoring for Will Greer to start.
- 51:48Speaker 1: Yeah, well listen, listen, listen, just for somebody. The guy's
- 51:51Speaker 1: barely played as somebody who's grown up in San Diego,
- 51:55Speaker 1: where our only professional sports team is the San Diego Padres,
- 51:58Speaker 1: who've never won a World Series. I'm not going to
- 52:01Speaker 1: cry a river for anyone in New England for what
- 52:04Speaker 1: they've got to experience over these years. I don't care
- 52:06Speaker 1: what sport is. They went like zillion titles and every
- 52:09Speaker 1: single they were like they're okay, they can. This is
- 52:12Speaker 1: what the rest of the world has to feel like
- 52:13Speaker 1: when these these two win, you know, two wins starts.
- 52:16Speaker 1: That's real life, baby, That's what the rest of the
- 52:18Speaker 1: league had over the last thirty years. You're just getting
- 52:21Speaker 1: a little taste of it.
- 52:22Speaker 3: You know.
- 52:22Speaker 1: I struggle to find any uh uh, any sympathy for
- 52:26Speaker 1: for all the success that they've had up there.
- 52:28Speaker 2: But it is ugly. It is not an easy watch.
- 52:31Speaker 3: So yeah, so bad. It's just so amazing to see
- 52:33Speaker 3: them may.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Antonio Pierce buck Antonio Pierce hats off Man two.
- 52:38Speaker 2: And oh how about that.
- 52:40Speaker 4: I bet at high school coach just a few years ago,
- 52:42Speaker 4: long probably down the road. He's been able to bounce
- 52:45Speaker 4: from dad to take it over the Raiders and got
- 52:48Speaker 4: them going to and oh, given victory mondays.
- 52:50Speaker 1: You know what I was thinking of is like, who
- 52:53Speaker 1: was it when they were going to be blue collar
- 52:56Speaker 1: and they wore like, uh, they were preaching they were
- 52:59Speaker 1: going to be collar and they wore like the trucker
- 53:01Speaker 1: shirts or whatever they had their name.
- 53:03Speaker 3: Jim Harbaugh did that once, Jim, thank you.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Yes Harbaugh did that, absolutely, yes, he had that those
- 53:10Speaker 1: those shirts. Because I was thinking if I was Antonio Pierce.
- 53:12Speaker 1: I will wear a shirt that just says not Josh,
- 53:14Speaker 1: that's it.
- 53:15Speaker 2: That's all.
- 53:15Speaker 1: That's all it would say, because that seems to be
- 53:18Speaker 1: like that's the that's the key, you know, I don't
- 53:22Speaker 1: know what, I don't know. Josh McDaniels. It seems like
- 53:24Speaker 1: a nice enough guy when I've been around him. But man,
- 53:27Speaker 1: they were I've never seen a group that was happy
- 53:29Speaker 1: to have somebody not care as that is. And that
- 53:31Speaker 1: seems like it was coaching and uh and players and
- 53:35Speaker 1: it seems like they're playing like they're not a great team,
- 53:37Speaker 1: they're not super talented, but they're hanging in there. They're
- 53:39Speaker 1: in the mix in AFC.
- 53:41Speaker 4: Yeah, and you talk about a team just making it
- 53:43Speaker 4: about the players on offense, just making it about the players.
- 53:45Speaker 3: They even give it to Josh Jacobs, DeVante.
- 53:47Speaker 4: Adams how to Renfro has been brought back into the
- 53:49Speaker 4: mix in terms of being able to get involved and
- 53:51Speaker 4: get on the field, and and O'Connell has done a
- 53:53Speaker 4: really good job of just managing the game. Nice to
- 53:56Speaker 4: road to Michael Mara for a touchdown. So yeah, they're
- 53:59Speaker 4: able to get it. So, I mean, here they are
- 54:00Speaker 4: with five and six six and five whatever they are.
- 54:03Speaker 4: They kind of in the conversation.
- 54:05Speaker 2: Yep, no doubt.
- 54:06Speaker 1: All right, Well, we've got four more shows coming your
- 54:08Speaker 1: way this week, so one today, including our video show
- 54:10Speaker 1: tomorrow which you can check out. That streams at four
- 54:13Speaker 1: pm Pacific every Tuesday. So that is on the NFL
- 54:17Speaker 1: fash channels where you can find that. But that's going
- 54:19Speaker 1: to do it for us. One encourage if you haven't
- 54:20Speaker 1: already like us, you could subscribe.
- 54:23Speaker 2: You could love a review. I love us. Yeah, why not?
- 54:25Speaker 1: Just a little button there, that's all we're looking for
- 54:27Speaker 1: a little rating and review. That does help the cause though,
- 54:30Speaker 1: and I promise you as people have started to reach
- 54:32Speaker 1: out on social media, draft talk is coming. It's right
- 54:35Speaker 1: around the corner. We are getting there. As we start
- 54:37Speaker 1: getting towards Thanksgiving holiday.
- 54:39Speaker 5: They have a little show too.
- 54:41Speaker 1: Yeah, we could have a little bit of that tomorrow.
- 54:42Speaker 1: So the light starts coming on and flickering, so we'll
