- 30:40Speaker 5: there for Dilgito Sange. Great stuff and folks. Now let's
- 30:45Speaker 5: turn our attention to Kavita Rao, who is from the
- 30:48Speaker 5: group Carmography, and Covita has just been doing amazing stuff
- 30:53Speaker 5: in our community for a good part of over two decades. Here,
- 30:56Speaker 5: I wanted to invite her into the show to tell
- 30:59Speaker 5: you what's going on.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Thanks Sammy, Hi everyone.
- 31:02Speaker 32: I'm Kavita, the founder and artistic director of Carmography, and
- 31:06Speaker 32: we are presenting a show here at Disneyland for the
- 31:08Speaker 32: month of May for APPI three Saturdays.
- 31:12Speaker 1: And this show is very special to me.
- 31:14Speaker 32: It's been something that I've been dreaming up for years
- 31:17Speaker 32: and talking to Disney about and we had an opportunity
- 31:20Speaker 32: to present a show in the fall winter time for
- 31:25Speaker 32: Festival of Holidays.
- 31:26Speaker 1: But this show is different.
- 31:27Speaker 32: It's very specific to what I feel is a true
- 31:31Speaker 32: representation of music and dance throughout different regions of India.
- 31:35Speaker 32: Because for me, this show is about making our entire
- 31:38Speaker 32: community feel seen also given a voice because a lot
- 31:42Speaker 32: of times in Western media and Western culture Indian dance
- 31:46Speaker 32: and music is portrayed in one or two ways, so
- 31:49Speaker 32: it's really important for both myself and the musical doc
- 31:52Speaker 32: to really showcase the vastness of what we have to
- 31:57Speaker 32: offer this rich culture that's so diverse in langue, which
- 32:00Speaker 32: in dance, style, in music and instrument and being able
- 32:03Speaker 32: to share that so that we don't feel like.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Just one thing, one type of person.
- 32:09Speaker 32: So my hope is when people see this show, they
- 32:12Speaker 32: really feel seen from no matter where they're from or
- 32:15Speaker 32: whatever part of India they're from, or even if they
- 32:17Speaker 32: have no idea, they're able to attach themselves to some
- 32:20Speaker 32: part of this show.
- 32:22Speaker 8: So this is a really.
- 32:23Speaker 32: Special not only for me, but I think my entire team.
- 32:26Speaker 32: My assistant artistic director Frank Sores, also played a big
- 32:29Speaker 32: role in this show. He's a longtime Disney person and
- 32:34Speaker 32: introduced me to the person that we were.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Able to pitch this show to.
- 32:37Speaker 32: So between him, obviously, the musical doc, my co creator
- 32:42Speaker 32: collaborator of this show, and these two very special dancers
- 32:46Speaker 32: Madison and Naomi, who have really embraced the culture, really
- 32:50Speaker 32: taken the time to learn about everything of what the
- 32:53Speaker 32: songs are about, what the styles are about, and I
- 32:57Speaker 32: think really do it justice, so I really you hope
- 33:00Speaker 32: to see you all out. We have one more show
- 33:02Speaker 32: here at Disneyland next Saturday.
- 33:04Speaker 1: We hope to see you.
- 33:05Speaker 5: There, Kavita, will all do our best to come out
- 33:09Speaker 5: and support you. Carmography and of course musical doc All
- 33:13Speaker 5: dear friends of ours, and pull up everybody this weekend
- 33:17Speaker 5: at Disneyland, the happiest place on earth, and come be

- 35:57Speaker 5: The music video takes place in his backyard right there
- 36:00Speaker 5: in the UK in London. Sovinder is the artist. The
- 36:04Speaker 5: song is called miss Me with That, a previous number
- 36:08Speaker 5: one song on our weekly Top twenty countdown show right
- 36:12Speaker 5: here on the bridge, going from one great Punjabi artist
- 36:16Speaker 5: to another one. This artist is Sabbath Beten and he
- 36:21Speaker 5: has a song called Galsun. As we get ready to
- 36:24Speaker 5: bring in sab Sama into the show. That's a journey.

- 39:03Speaker 5: Ladies and gentlemen. I have pulled him on the line
- 39:06Speaker 5: all the way from the UK.
- 39:07Speaker 6: What's up, siheb, what's going on?
- 39:11Speaker 5: Oh man? If you've been listening to the show, and
- 39:15Speaker 5: I have been telling my audience that I have just
- 39:18Speaker 5: discovered this song and I can't wait to pull inside
- 39:21Speaker 5: to the show. So for all my listeners right now,
- 39:23Speaker 5: they're like, god, dude, samm you finally got his guy.
- 39:25Speaker 5: So there you go, Sibe. We've roped you in into
- 39:28Speaker 5: this show and so thanks for making it.
- 39:32Speaker 6: No, thank you for having me. Man, it's a pleasure. Honesty.
- 39:35Speaker 5: Well, first of all, if you look at my Top
- 39:37Speaker 5: ten and my Top twenty countdown show that just aired
- 39:41Speaker 5: this last weekend here, you would have caught that your
- 39:45Speaker 5: song is right in the middle of that and it's
- 39:49Speaker 5: moving pretty quickly. This is the first song today. Yeah,
- 39:54Speaker 5: you know, we got to get there. So we've been,
- 39:56Speaker 5: of course, you know, following the journey of this song,
- 40:00Speaker 5: and we're getting to know you here a little bit,
- 40:01Speaker 5: and we know that you've been doing your thing in
- 40:03Speaker 5: the UK, and this is one of the first songs
- 40:06Speaker 5: that we've got to really know about your stuff. You know,
- 40:09Speaker 5: tell us the journey really quickly. You know, you've got
- 40:12Speaker 5: this song coming out. How does it feel?
- 40:15Speaker 6: But it feels for real, it feels crazy, you know,
- 40:18Speaker 6: it's it's a lot of effort. I went into this song, man,
- 40:21Speaker 6: I produced it wrote. One thing I've been bragging about
- 40:25Speaker 6: this whole time is I've done it in free I
- 40:27Speaker 6: that's amazing yet bragging there.
- 40:34Speaker 5: It's me.
- 40:35Speaker 6: Yeah, took it up in three Yeah, it's.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Just it just happened.
- 40:39Speaker 6: Bro, It's just flowed out with me.
- 40:41Speaker 5: Man, tell us, Uh, you're you're in the studio. You're
- 40:46Speaker 5: you're I mean, you do everything from cover to cover
- 40:48Speaker 5: in three hours. That's remarkable, by the way.
- 40:51Speaker 26: Yeah.
- 40:51Speaker 6: Man, Well, for the studio is in my house right okay,
- 40:54Speaker 6: And it's not even a studio as per se. It's
- 40:56Speaker 6: just a spare room.
- 40:57Speaker 5: Man.
- 40:57Speaker 6: I do everything at home on like twelve year old monitors,
- 41:02Speaker 6: you know.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:03Speaker 6: Man, So I've just I really really put the leg
- 41:06Speaker 6: work in and the obogg used to be able to
- 41:08Speaker 6: bring myself to the point where I can do this stuff.
- 41:11Speaker 6: I started with a beat, so, I mean like, I
- 41:13Speaker 6: put the beat down, laid the beat down, put the
- 41:15Speaker 6: drums on it. Immediately I knew what I felt from it,
- 41:18Speaker 6: you know. I went into the studio thinking I'm going
- 41:20Speaker 6: to make a love song about me and Ago I
- 41:23Speaker 6: tied with the song you and I right, did all
- 41:25Speaker 6: of that stuff in my mind. I knew what I
- 41:27Speaker 6: was going to make. Put a beat down, put the
- 41:29Speaker 6: drums on it, and it was over immediately. Yeah, you're
- 41:33Speaker 6: saying about no, go, this is all about me.
- 41:36Speaker 5: Did you ever have that melody in your mind before?
- 41:38Speaker 5: Or did it just happen that day?
- 41:40Speaker 6: No, it just happened. So as soon as it happened.
- 41:43Speaker 6: The moment it happened, I had. I had rang my friends,
- 41:46Speaker 6: and I think I had rang only immediately. It was
- 41:48Speaker 6: a very very very very good friend of mine. It
- 41:50Speaker 6: was like a brother, and I rang him and I said, Yo,
- 41:54Speaker 6: check this melody. I sang it. He's a bangor. And
- 41:57Speaker 6: then I rang my bridge and Andy, I'm like, yo, hey,
- 41:59Speaker 6: chack this bang. From that point, I what verification from
- 42:03Speaker 6: two people I needed it from.
- 42:05Speaker 5: And immediately it is the chart on the bridge. And
- 42:11Speaker 5: you know, listen, I I when you listen to the song,
- 42:15Speaker 5: what really pulls me in is how rich it is
- 42:18Speaker 5: lyrically and it really tells and expresses a lot about
- 42:22Speaker 5: your story. Uh it's there. Uh, there's a lot of
- 42:26Speaker 5: struggle in the song. There's vindication in the song. Is
- 42:31Speaker 5: you know, do you feel that this song has given
- 42:34Speaker 5: you the comfort to be now free and be like, Okay,
- 42:37Speaker 5: I've I've broken this barrier on a personal level of
- 42:40Speaker 5: really coming up with something that we know that the
- 42:42Speaker 5: public is attracted to. Does this make ship comfortable now?
- 42:48Speaker 6: You know in a lot of ways, Sammy, it does, Man,
- 42:50Speaker 6: it really does. It kind of made a lot of
- 42:52Speaker 6: conversations easier, you know, in my personal life. Yeah, it's
- 42:55Speaker 6: always easier to write what you see. And I'm I'm
- 43:00Speaker 6: I'm not so much one of the artists and I
- 43:02Speaker 6: admire artists that are able to do this, but sometimes
- 43:05Speaker 6: I struggle to write about things that aren't real for me.
- 43:08Speaker 5: And this is real.
- 43:09Speaker 6: Everything I said in that song was one hundred percent through.
- 43:11Speaker 6: Everything is very real, you know. Yeah, And so it's
- 43:14Speaker 6: something that came from the soul something I feel. It's
- 43:16Speaker 6: something that did absolutely freely and maney it was. It
- 43:21Speaker 6: was liberating to be able to say these things.
- 43:23Speaker 5: You know, there's a spark that I of bright light
- 43:29Speaker 5: that I see from your work. I feel that you're
- 43:32Speaker 5: you're representing what is to me a brand new sound
- 43:35Speaker 5: and a brand new wave coming back from the UK.
- 43:38Speaker 5: I feel like it's not a generation to absorb what.
- 43:42Speaker 5: You know, the Canadian or the US movement for that matter,
- 43:45Speaker 5: has contributed to the scene, maybe built on what the
- 43:48Speaker 5: UK did, you know, maybe some years ago. And now
- 43:52Speaker 5: you have an artist like yourself who's coming along presenting
- 43:55Speaker 5: this culture in the way it is. Do you feel
- 43:57Speaker 5: like you're like a new coming of the sound.
- 44:02Speaker 33: In a way?
- 44:03Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 44:03Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, the the UK sound
- 44:06Speaker 6: that everybody knows and loves. It's very very it's meticulous.
- 44:11Speaker 6: You know, you know immediately what it is, you know, distinctive.
- 44:15Speaker 6: You can tell based on listening to Punjabi music that
- 44:18Speaker 6: come from the UK from that that error, you know. Yeah,
- 44:21Speaker 6: so I guess what I'm doing now. It's definitely it's
- 44:25Speaker 6: definitely new. It feels new to me. And that's that's like,
- 44:29Speaker 6: that's my whole that's my whole thing, man, that's my
- 44:31Speaker 6: whole identity. I want to put the UK back on.
- 44:33Speaker 6: You know, Canada's had the game in the show called
- 44:35Speaker 6: for the Long Man, Big Up Canada. You know, they've
- 44:38Speaker 6: really done their thing. All of the crowds out there. Yeah, yeah, man,
- 44:43Speaker 6: I've really done that thing. Man. You know, America has
- 44:46Speaker 6: contributed big, big, big time, and so yeah, man, I
- 44:49Speaker 6: really that's one of my things. I mean, when I
- 44:50Speaker 6: really want to put on for the UK.
- 44:52Speaker 5: Man, you're I'm sure you're. You're in the studio all
- 44:56Speaker 5: the time. What are you cooking these days? Sib What
- 44:58Speaker 5: are we going to be expecting from you in the
- 45:01Speaker 5: coming weeks and months? Where's this music taking you? Now?
- 45:05Speaker 6: It's it's it's it's such a roller coaster because it's
- 45:09Speaker 6: so difficult to answer that question. But I'm being as
- 45:13Speaker 6: as experiments as I can. I'm doing everything anything under
- 45:18Speaker 6: the sun that feels right to me. I'm trying to
- 45:21Speaker 6: hone in on different sounds, different feelings, different emotions. And
- 45:25Speaker 6: one of my main things is one of my biggest fears,
- 45:27Speaker 6: is I don't want people to be able to ever
- 45:29Speaker 6: listen to my music and say, oh, he makes the
- 45:30Speaker 6: same stuff over and over, buddy, you give me yeah,
- 45:34Speaker 6: and which, to be honest with you, I have no
- 45:36Speaker 6: problem and artists do that because that that shows me
- 45:38Speaker 6: an artist knows their sound, you know. But I want
- 45:42Speaker 6: to be like, I don't want a box on me, man.
- 45:46Speaker 6: I want to be able to do everything, and I
- 45:47Speaker 6: think I really really can and I think I will
- 45:49Speaker 6: break boundaries.
- 45:50Speaker 12: Man.
- 45:51Speaker 6: So to me, it's it's everything something you can expect
- 45:53Speaker 6: everything under the sandro Well.
- 45:55Speaker 5: Uh, You've got a legion of fans here that listen
- 45:58Speaker 5: to the show every day and you know behind you,
- 46:01Speaker 5: we're here to support you. Congratulations on the success of
- 46:05Speaker 5: this song. We're looking forward to hearing more from you.
- 46:07Speaker 5: I'm sure I'll come tug on your cape again when
- 46:10Speaker 5: the next single comes in. Hopefully you can spend time
- 46:13Speaker 5: with us again here on the bridge. Brother, thanks for joining.

- 54:03Speaker 5: I've been trying to get rich Meath onto this show,
- 54:06Speaker 5: so if you're part of her management team, holler back. Yeah.
- 54:12Speaker 5: She's getting ready for a big tour across the US
- 54:15Speaker 5: and Canada, and I think she's ripe for it. The
- 54:18Speaker 5: audience is ready to see her, but more importantly, I
- 54:21Speaker 5: think it's ready to identify with an artist like her.
- 54:25Speaker 5: She captures this really cool mixture of like this kind
- 54:28Speaker 5: of sufi quality with the Punjabi thing, with this pop
- 54:32Speaker 5: thing going on. It's really cool. Shout out to rich
- 54:35Speaker 5: Meath Garr. This is shoub as you guys know he's
- 54:39Speaker 5: one of my favorite artists. This song is called Bounce.

- 56:26Speaker 5: It's from his Chapter four EP. Big shout out to
- 56:31Speaker 5: say of some ra You know, thirty years ago when
- 56:34Speaker 5: I started Ruckus Avenue, the most exciting Asian music on
- 56:39Speaker 5: Earth was coming out of the UK, not India, not Canada.
- 56:43Speaker 5: The UK, the Bungad scene, the fusion producers, the kids
- 56:48Speaker 5: in Bottom Me Gum and London who took their parents'
- 56:52Speaker 5: folk music and ran it through a sound system. They
- 56:55Speaker 5: invented the template the whole diaspora is still using. And
- 56:59Speaker 5: I'll be honest with you, I've watched that scene lose
- 57:01Speaker 5: its fire over the last decade. Center of Gravity has
- 57:04Speaker 5: moved the UK that Led now follows. It's when a
- 57:08Speaker 5: song like saheb Summer's One Day climbs my chart. I
- 57:12Speaker 5: pay attention because what he's doing is exactly what that
- 57:16Speaker 5: scene has forgotten how to do. He's not chasing the trend.
- 57:20Speaker 5: He's building something with patience, with craft, with a point
- 57:24Speaker 5: of view, that doesn't sound like everyone else. That's not
- 57:27Speaker 5: a UK sound or a Canadian sound. That's an artist sound.
- 57:32Speaker 5: And if the UK wants its renaissance and it's overdue,
- 57:35Speaker 5: it doesn't need a new trend to copy. It needs
- 57:38Speaker 5: to remember it. It was always the place that did
- 57:40Speaker 5: it differently. First, Saeb's showing how. The question is who's listening.
- 57:46Speaker 5: I'll see you guys tomorrow and I'll leave you with
- 57:49Speaker 5: this song right here. The artist's name is god Nodula.
- 57:52Speaker 5: The song is called Genie Lagda Have a great day. Everybody.
- 58:00Speaker 2: You're like that.
