- 0:24Well, hello everyone.
- 0:26Welcome to Inspirations for Your Life.
- 0:28I'm glad you decided to join me.
- 0:30It is Friday.
- 0:33This is June 19th, 2026.
- 0:39Yeah, so something very interesting I want to
- 0:42talk to you about.
- 0:43First is the June 19th holiday.
- 0:46Now, us being a private company, we don't
- 0:51observe that holiday.
- 0:53We stay open.
- 0:54So June 19th, I discovered this because I
- 0:56went to the post office to mail something
- 0:58and I was going to have them check
- 0:59the weight and I realized they were closed.
- 1:01June 19th is celebrated as June 19th National
- 1:04Independence Day, which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved
- 1:08African Americans in the United States.
- 1:11It became a federal holiday on June 17,
- 1:132021, making the day when Union soldiers announced
- 1:17freedom for slaves in Texas in 1865.
- 1:20Now, June 19th is recognized as Juneteenth National
- 1:25Independence Day as a significant holiday in the
- 1:28United States that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved
- 1:31African Americans.
- 1:33So on June 19th, 1865, it marked the
- 1:38day when Union soldiers were led by Major
- 1:41General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas to
- 1:44announce that the Civil War had ended and
- 1:47that all enslaved people were free.
- 1:49This announcement came two and a half years
- 1:51after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation
- 1:54on January 1st, 1863, which declared the freedom
- 1:59of slaves in Confederate states.
- 2:01Now, the federal holiday recognition established as a
- 2:04holiday, Juneteenth, was officially recognized as a federal
- 2:07holiday on June 17th in 2021, not too
- 2:10long ago, when President Joe Biden signed the
- 2:12Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law.
- 2:17The day is celebrated with various events, including
- 2:19parades, family reunions, and cultural activities, often featuring
- 2:23foods with red colors symbolizing the bloodshed for
- 2:26freedom.
- 2:27And so Juneteenth is celebrated annually on June
- 2:3119th across the United States, serving as a
- 2:33reminder of the ongoing struggle for equality and
- 2:37justice for African Americans.
- 2:39It is often referred to as America's Second
- 2:42Independence Day, highlighting its importance in the narrative
- 2:46of American freedom and civil rights.
- 2:48Now, here's the interesting thing that I thought
- 2:49you would like to know.
- 2:50Both the UPS carrier and FedEx, as well
- 2:56as Amazon, were still operating as schedule and
- 2:59delivery packages.
- 3:00However, since the United States Postal Service is
- 3:04part of the government, in some way, shape,
- 3:06or form, sort of, because they don't get
- 3:08100% funding from it, they closed.
- 3:12It's interesting.
- 3:13All right, guys.
- 3:14So if this is your very first time
- 3:15joining me, I want to take the opportunity
- 3:17to say thank you, and I want to
- 3:18say welcome.
- 3:19Have you been here one time, five times,
- 3:21100 times, or maybe even more?
- 3:23I like to say thank you.
- 3:24Welcome.
- 3:25And I also want to say the words,
- 3:26welcome back.
- 3:27It really means a lot to me that
- 3:28you are here with me today.
- 3:30If you're thirsty or hungry or what have
- 3:33you, feel free to go grab something.
- 3:35I have an RO water here with delicious,
- 3:39fresh lemon inside.
- 3:42All right, guys.
- 3:42If you haven't checked out BelieveMeAchieved.com, go
- 3:45do that after the show is over.
- 3:47I think you will be really happy with
- 3:48the content.
- 3:49There's short-form content.
- 3:50There's long-form content.
- 3:51And it is a great place to basically
- 3:57learn about all kinds of different content.
- 4:03So I think you guys are going to
- 4:04really appreciate that.
- 4:06All right, guys.
- 4:07Let's just kick this show off.
- 4:09I can't wait to share everything I've got
- 4:10to share with you.
- 4:11So this, ladies and gentlemen, is the Inspirations
- 4:12for Your Life show.
- 4:14And it's so great to be with you.
- 4:16I'm John C.
- 4:17Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 4:21podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student at
- 4:25Montclair State University, and so passionate to be
- 4:29a lifelong learner and grateful to now be
- 4:31a published author.
- 4:32We're wrapping up the call, no pun intended,
- 4:35of our topic, Answering the Call, series 5,
- 4:38show number 25.
- 4:39And this is episode number 7.
- 4:42And that is all about showing up again
- 4:44and again, series 5, show 27, episode 7.
- 4:47Again, today is Friday.
- 4:48Your superpower is showing up.
- 4:51Why imperfect action always wins long term.
- 4:56Yeah.
- 4:57That's a very important thing, I think, that
- 5:00a lot of people miss, you know, what's
- 5:03happening and how different things change our lives.
- 5:07Because, you know, these perceptions we have actually
- 5:12become our reality.
- 5:14And we don't realize it because a subtle
- 5:17shift can do nothing overnight, but then suddenly
- 5:20we wake up and it's like, wait a
- 5:22minute, how did that even happen?
- 5:25Right?
- 5:26So it's slow at first, but then it
- 5:28happens overnight.
- 5:29But it's not happening overnight.
- 5:30It's happening over time.
- 5:32And we just notice it all at once.
- 5:34So today we're closing the week with something
- 5:37simple, but very, very powerful.
- 5:39It's not theory, guys.
- 5:40It's not motivation, spikes.
- 5:43It's not perfect planning.
- 5:46What is it?
- 5:47Well, we're talking about showing up again, again,
- 5:51again, and again.
- 5:53Because you see, showing up is where everything
- 5:56starts to change.
- 6:00Everything starts to change.
- 6:03So our core message today is this.
- 6:06Week has been about answering the call all
- 6:09week.
- 6:10And it's not the phone call.
- 6:12But answering the call is not a single
- 6:14moment in our lives.
- 6:15It's a pattern.
- 6:17It is repetition.
- 6:18It is discipline in motion.
- 6:21And today I break down the final truth
- 6:24about that.
- 6:25You don't become consistent by being perfect.
- 6:28Nope.
- 6:29You become consistent by refusing to disappear.
- 6:36Basically means you keep going and going and
- 6:38going like the Energizer putty, right?
- 6:41So let me give you some insights, 30
- 6:43points today that are going to help you
- 6:45change your way.
- 6:47Showing up as a decision before it becomes
- 6:49a habit.
- 6:51As it starts as a choice, not identity,
- 6:54but it slowly becomes who you are.
- 6:58Number two, imperfect action creates more progress than
- 7:02delayed perfection.
- 7:04Waiting removes momentum.
- 7:06Action just builds it, okay?
- 7:09Number three, discipline is built in repetition.
- 7:12It's not intensity.
- 7:13What you repeat matters more than what you
- 7:16do once.
- 7:17That's why I always appreciate those of you
- 7:19that decide to come back to the show
- 7:20again and again.
- 7:22Number four, consistency is a form of self
- 7:24-respect.
- 7:25Every time you show up, you reinforce your
- 7:29own inner value.
- 7:31Pretty cool.
- 7:32Number five, motivation is unreliable.
- 7:35Systems are not.
- 7:37You cannot depend on feelings to build results.
- 7:41Number six, small actions compound into identity shifts.
- 7:47What looks small today becomes structural tomorrow.
- 7:53Number seven, missing repeatedly is more damaging than
- 7:57failing once.
- 7:59Absence creates distance from your goals.
- 8:02But when you keep doing it over and
- 8:03over again, it sends a message to people
- 8:06that, you know, you may not be as
- 8:08reliable as people once thought you were.
- 8:10And I think that's an important thing.
- 8:12We talk about accountability, right?
- 8:14Accountability is very, very important to understand.
- 8:20Number eight, presence creates opportunity.
- 8:24Visibility.
- 8:25You cannot be noticed if you're not present.
- 8:28Pretty simple, right?
- 8:30Number nine, progress is often invisible.
- 8:32While it's happening, most growth is quiet before
- 8:36it becomes obvious.
- 8:38Number 10, action reduces overthinking.
- 8:42Movement replaces mental loops with clarity.
- 8:49I think sometimes the reason we don't do
- 8:51something is because we don't understand.
- 8:54And if we don't understand something, it's like
- 8:58we're lost, right?
- 9:00We don't know what to do.
- 9:01We don't know where to go.
- 9:03And I think that's a very big problem
- 9:05for, again, a lot of people, a lot
- 9:09of people.
- 9:10So we have to first get clear on
- 9:13what we want in our life before we
- 9:15can ever start to execute it.
- 9:17Number 11, waiting increases doubt.
- 9:21Delay amplifies hesitation and, of course, uncertainty.
- 9:27So that brings us to number 12.
- 9:30Showing up reduces fear over time.
- 9:34Not in one moment, but over time.
- 9:36Familiarity weakens emotional resistance.
- 9:40So when we get to know people, we
- 9:42get to know a situation, we're like, oh,
- 9:44I get that.
- 9:44I understand it.
- 9:45And now I'm less threatened by it, right?
- 9:49Number 13, discipline is emotional regulation in disguise.
- 9:56What are you talking about, John?
- 9:58You're controlling behavior through your own structure.
- 10:04I said before that to have success, you
- 10:07need to have structure and consistency.
- 10:11With how one, success is basically something you
- 10:16can't even conceive or grasp.
- 10:20Number 14, repetition will always build trust in
- 10:23yourself.
- 10:24You begin to believe your own follow through.
- 10:30You know, what we tell ourselves, what we
- 10:32say in our minds.
- 10:33See, that's the stuff that creates our reality,
- 10:39okay?
- 10:39That's the stuff that does it.
- 10:41And if we don't understand that, then we're
- 10:44going to keep missing the opportunity.
- 10:46Because you see, the opportunity may swing around
- 10:48once and never come again.
- 10:50It may swing around a couple of times,
- 10:51but if we're not ready, we're never going
- 10:54to get it.
- 10:55If the door opens and we're like, well,
- 10:58I'll wait.
- 10:59It's open now, but it'll probably open again.
- 11:01It may not open again.
- 11:03See, the wheel of opportunity keeps going around.
- 11:08The thing is, as the wheel keeps going
- 11:10around, the door that you had to open
- 11:14may not be there when it spins around
- 11:17again.
- 11:17It may be closed.
- 11:19Somebody else may have taken that opportunity.
- 11:23Interesting way to think of it, right?
- 11:25A wheel of opportunity, it's spinning.
- 11:27So we have to take deliberate action to
- 11:32go through that door.
- 11:34Even if we're scared, we have to go
- 11:37through that door.
- 11:39Because when we do, we become empowered to
- 11:43do so many other things.
- 11:46You know, there's lots of opportunities out there.
- 11:49I've learned this.
- 11:50But if you're not in a state to
- 11:51receive them, you will miss them every time
- 11:54they come around.
- 11:56Every time.
- 11:59And that's a sad thing, because you're waiting
- 12:02at that stop.
- 12:03And you're like, well, I know it should
- 12:04be around again, but wait a minute.
- 12:08The door's locked.
- 12:10Yeah.
- 12:11The opportunity is not available anymore.
- 12:14So when it comes by the first time,
- 12:18enter.
- 12:20Grasp the opportunity.
- 12:21Number 15.
- 12:23Identity is formed through our behavior patterns.
- 12:26You are what you repeatedly do not want.
- 12:31You intend.
- 12:34It's what you do, not what you intend.
- 12:37So you are what you do, not what
- 12:38you intend to do.
- 12:40Right?
- 12:42We get what we are, not what we
- 12:44want.
- 12:45So that's why it's important to become in
- 12:46alignment with the things that we want.
- 12:49Number 16.
- 12:49Micro-wins.
- 12:50The small wins.
- 12:51The ones that we don't want to celebrate.
- 12:52Create momentum chains.
- 12:54And small completions lead to large execution cycles
- 12:57when we truly celebrate them.
- 13:03Number 17, guys.
- 13:05Energy follows movement.
- 13:07Action creates motivation.
- 13:09Not the other way around.
- 13:11Many people get it mixed up because they
- 13:13don't understand what's happening in their life.
- 13:17They don't understand.
- 13:18And I think that's a big problem for,
- 13:20again, a lot of people.
- 13:22Number 18.
- 13:24Avoidance becomes heavier than effort.
- 13:28Not showing up costs more than showing up.
- 13:33When you miss an opportunity, I've already said
- 13:36it's priceless.
- 13:37The door may never open again.
- 13:41Right?
- 13:42The door may not even be near you.
- 13:45So it may not be near you.
- 13:46And if it's near you, it may never
- 13:47open.
- 13:49Number 19.
- 13:50Consistency, guys, removes decision fatigue.
- 13:54You stop debating and you start doing.
- 13:58There are a lot of thinkers and a
- 13:59lot of procrastinators out there.
- 14:01Nothing wrong with thinking, but you can't keep
- 14:02thinking forever.
- 14:03You have to eventually do, do, do, do.
- 14:09Right?
- 14:09You have to do.
- 14:15You have to do.
- 14:17And if you do, things will change quite
- 14:20a bit.
- 14:24That's important to understand that.
- 14:27Number 20, guys.
- 14:28Execution builds clarity faster than thinking.
- 14:32Action reveals what planning cannot.
- 14:36So you might say, well, John, what if
- 14:37I make the wrong choice?
- 14:39You're going to learn.
- 14:41Right?
- 14:44And when you learn, you're going to say,
- 14:46oh my gosh, I can't believe what I
- 14:47just did.
- 14:55I think a lot of people just don't
- 14:58understand the mission.
- 15:02Right?
- 15:05They understand the mission because of where they
- 15:09come from.
- 15:10Right?
- 15:10Where they are.
- 15:14I think that's an important piece that's about
- 15:19life, guys.
- 15:21It's about truth.
- 15:23It's about who we become.
- 15:27Right?
- 15:31And who we become changes who we become
- 15:39changes.
- 15:45I think that's an important thing.
- 15:49Okay?
- 15:55I think if we understand truth, I think
- 15:58if we understand our direction, we'll be able
- 16:02to get through the challenges.
- 16:05Right?
- 16:07When I was younger and a challenge came
- 16:09my way or a door closed, I'm like,
- 16:11oh my gosh, what am I going to
- 16:12do?
- 16:12It's over.
- 16:13Now I'm like, okay, the door closed.
- 16:16I've got to rethink this.
- 16:19I've got to make sure that if a
- 16:21door closes again, that I don't get stuck
- 16:23behind it.
- 16:26But it's not a time to have a
- 16:27pity party.
- 16:28It's not a time to cry.
- 16:29It's not a time to complain.
- 16:31It's a time to take action, to think.
- 16:34Number 21, progress favors those who stay visible.
- 16:38Out of sight often becomes out of progress,
- 16:42out of mind, out of action.
- 16:45Number 22, discipline turns chaos into structure.
- 16:51Repeat action creates order in uncertainty.
- 16:57And when we figure out how to order
- 17:00chaos, that's when magic happens.
- 17:04Number 23, guys, imperfect effort is still forward
- 17:07movement.
- 17:08Direction matters more than polish.
- 17:12You don't have to be perfect, guys.
- 17:13There's no need to be perfect, but you've
- 17:16got to show up consistently.
- 17:19You've got to have structure.
- 17:20Number 24, reliability becomes your personal brand.
- 17:25People trust those who show up consistently.
- 17:27So let me share a story.
- 17:29I was meeting somebody about six, seven months
- 17:32ago, and they wanted to get involved with
- 17:34one of my groups that I run.
- 17:38And we confirmed the time, the date.
- 17:41And this person was maybe about 45 minutes
- 17:42away from me.
- 17:44And so we had messages, so they're back
- 17:47and forth, and we confirmed, and we text,
- 17:49and we confirmed back and forth.
- 17:51And about a day or two before, I
- 17:54think it was the day before, I confirmed,
- 17:55hey, you know, we're meeting tomorrow.
- 17:57Oh, yeah, seven o'clock, right?
- 18:00Yeah, a.m. Oh, dude, I'm going to
- 18:03be working at 7 a.m. I think
- 18:05I'm at 7 p.m. And I was
- 18:08very clear that it was 7 a.m.
- 18:11So I decided to reschedule with the person
- 18:16for whatever terms.
- 18:18They never were able to schedule with me
- 18:19because they were always too busy.
- 18:21So there was a place I went to,
- 18:24and this person happened to be there.
- 18:28And I very nonchalantly approached the person like,
- 18:32hey, the missing person, I thought you fell
- 18:36off the earth or the planet.
- 18:39He just looks at me and I said,
- 18:41what happened?
- 18:42We were supposed to meet.
- 18:45He was like, oh, yeah, I know.
- 18:46And I just kind of turned around like
- 18:48it was no big deal.
- 18:49That's someone who's noncommittal to what they say
- 18:53they're going to do.
- 18:54And once someone does that to me.
- 18:58I'll give them two tries.
- 19:00Third try they're out.
- 19:02And there's no valid reason.
- 19:05You know what I say next?
- 19:08That's not because I'm trying to be discriminative.
- 19:11It's not because I'm trying to be better
- 19:13than them.
- 19:14It's because my time is valuable.
- 19:18And if people don't value you or value
- 19:20me, it's next.
- 19:23End of discussion.
- 19:25Number 25, momentum replaces resistance over time.
- 19:30What was hard becomes automatic, seemingly even easier
- 19:36than you thought it could be.
- 19:39But it takes time to have this realization.
- 19:42We never know when we're going to get
- 19:44a realization.
- 19:45We just don't know.
- 19:47I had one not too long ago, and
- 19:48I got to tell you something.
- 19:50I had a realization that I didn't think
- 19:52was even possible.
- 19:56I didn't think it was possible.
- 20:00And it changed my whole belief of life.
- 20:02You all know what happened to me when
- 20:04I wrote my book, right?
- 20:05Drain to Driven.
- 20:08This was another one of those epiphanies.
- 20:12But the thing is, I wasn't expecting this
- 20:14one either.
- 20:15Now, there was nothing wrong.
- 20:16There was nothing like I was burned out
- 20:18or anything like that.
- 20:19But it just came upon me like a
- 20:22gift.
- 20:24And I was like, my mindset changed.
- 20:28I don't know how that happened.
- 20:30But all I know is I'm completely grateful
- 20:32for it.
- 20:33That's an important thing.
- 20:36Number 26, guys.
- 20:38Habits are built through repetition under imperfection.
- 20:42See, perfect conditions are not required.
- 20:45Most people say, oh, I can't do that
- 20:46because I'm not perfect.
- 20:47So they never even try.
- 20:50Maybe they try once, like, oh, I can't
- 20:51do that.
- 20:59I think sometimes we overthink it.
- 21:13I think that's important to know.
- 21:31Interesting, right?
- 21:38I'll tell you that sometimes our mind's decision
- 21:43of where we want to go and our
- 21:48body's alignments don't match is because our energy
- 21:52is off.
- 21:54When our energies at alignment, magic happens.
- 22:01I'm going to compare this to an analogy.
- 22:03Many of you don't know that my mom
- 22:04had a dry cleaning plant many years ago.
- 22:08My mom's side of the family had that.
- 22:10It was the third generation that had one.
- 22:13And there's three things you need.
- 22:15I never forgot this from the chemical people
- 22:18that did our chemicals for the shirts.
- 22:21You need chemicals, okay?
- 22:24You need hot water, and you need mechanical
- 22:28action.
- 22:29If you don't have mechanical action, hot water,
- 22:31and the right chemical formula, well, you don't
- 22:36have clean shirts.
- 22:39And that sat with me.
- 22:41And this is why we hired this company,
- 22:43I'm not going to mention their name, they're
- 22:44still in business, to come up with our
- 22:47formula for our shirts.
- 22:49No one else knew this formula.
- 22:52And this formula was one of our trade
- 22:55secrets to making our shirts white and making
- 22:58them come out amazingly.
- 23:00And we hired them to make sure that
- 23:01our formula always stayed in tolerances.
- 23:06Number 27, guys, showing up as a form
- 23:08of commitment to your future self.
- 23:11You're investing forward every time you show up.
- 23:13Now, when people do this, I don't care
- 23:16whether they're younger than me, older than me,
- 23:18that is no excuse to not show up.
- 23:21And when that person I told you did
- 23:23what they did and didn't show up, I
- 23:25first thought something was wrong.
- 23:26I said, oh my gosh, you okay?
- 23:27Is everybody okay?
- 23:28And they're like, no, everything's fine.
- 23:32And when I went down there and I
- 23:35saw they're at this place, I was like,
- 23:38let's talk.
- 23:38And they really weren't interested in talking.
- 23:41I said, well, I'm here, let's have the
- 23:43meeting.
- 23:44Oh yeah, I don't want to meet now.
- 23:48They did this, you know, with their mouth,
- 23:50they open, open, close, open, close, open, close,
- 23:52open, close.
- 23:54People do a lot with their mouth, but
- 23:56not a lot of action.
- 23:58They talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk,
- 24:00talk, talk, but don't do anything.
- 24:02There's a lot of people like that.
- 24:05Number 28, success is cumulative.
- 24:07Attendance is built by being there repeatedly, right?
- 24:11When you want to have a good attendance
- 24:12in school, you got to be there every
- 24:15single day.
- 24:17So let's take a look.
- 24:18So how many absences, let's just say, can
- 24:23you have in high school before you fail?
- 24:30So attendance matters.
- 24:34And so what the law requires, every school
- 24:37district in New Jersey must develop policies that
- 24:39clearly outline expectations.
- 24:42New Jersey's attendance law creates a graduated response
- 24:45system that escalates interventions based on the number
- 24:48of unexcused absences.
- 24:49For the first four unexcused absences, the school
- 24:52focuses on communication and early intervention.
- 24:54You can expect the school to contact you
- 24:56before the next school day to notify you
- 24:58of the absence and work with you to
- 25:00determine the cause.
- 25:01When the absence reaches five to nine unexcused
- 25:04absences, response becomes more intensive.
- 25:06Schools will evaluate whether previous interventions were effective
- 25:10and develop a comprehensive action plan.
- 25:12This may include referrals to intervention teams, academic
- 25:15or behavioral assessments, consideration, or even alternative education
- 25:19placements.
- 25:20Once your child reaches 10 or more unexcused
- 25:24absences, guess what happens?
- 25:29You ready?
- 25:30They're officially considered truant under New Jersey law.
- 25:34At this point, schools must consider whether to
- 25:37make a court referral while continuing to work
- 25:41with you and involved agencies to support your
- 25:43child's return to regular attendance.
- 25:46Now, the court referrals and legal consequences, the
- 25:49law provides two pathways for court involvement depending
- 25:51on the circumstances of the school.
- 25:53Officials determine the unexcused absences violate education law.
- 25:56Parents may be referred to municipal court.
- 25:59Alternately, if there is evidence of a juvenile
- 26:01family crisis, the student may be referred to
- 26:03Superior Court Family Division.
- 26:04Before any court referral, schools must provide a
- 26:07written report detailing all actions they've taken to
- 26:11address the attendance issue.
- 26:13This ensures that legal intervention only occurs after
- 26:16appropriate support measures have been attempted.
- 26:19If your child has a disability, all attendance
- 26:21policies must be applied in accordance with their
- 26:24individualized education program, their EIEP, and this ensures
- 26:28that attendance requirements consider your child's specific needs
- 26:30and circumstances.
- 26:32What parents should know, they have to stay
- 26:33proactive about communication, document everything, address problems, know
- 26:37your rights, responsibilities, seek support when needed, and
- 26:39respond promptly to school contact.
- 26:43Wow, showing up is important.
- 26:48It's not just in business, it's in school
- 26:52too.
- 26:53And I think the reason why they're so
- 26:56strict about this, it's the education, but it's
- 26:58also to teach the child that showing up
- 27:02is something people are expect from you your
- 27:06entire life.
- 27:08So get comfortable now and start showing up.
- 27:12Number 29, your breakthrough is usually hidden inside
- 27:15consistency, not a moment, but again, a pattern.
- 27:20Our last point, 30, show up again, again,
- 27:23again is the real superpower.
- 27:25Everything else is secondary to consistency.
- 27:28And that's the real message, ladies and gentlemen,
- 27:31show up.
- 27:32In closing, so as we close today, this
- 27:36week, here is the real truth.
- 27:38You do not need to be perfect.
- 27:40Nope.
- 27:40You do not need to be ready.
- 27:42Nope.
- 27:43You just need to be present because presence
- 27:47creates progress and progress compounds into transformation.
