Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Elliots guitars from Anoxia, got James on bass, and we've
- 0:05Speaker 1: got our debut album.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Revel In Sin, out in a week the seventeenth of April. Yeah,
- 0:14Speaker 2: thank you, As.
- 0:16Speaker 3: You mentioned at least your debut.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Very excited.
- 0:26Speaker 1: So we released our EP on in February twenty twenty three,
- 0:33Speaker 1: just a little while now. We've just been touring a lot,
- 0:35Speaker 1: playing a lot of shows, took some time off to
- 0:38Speaker 1: right and came up with revel In Sin. So very
- 0:42Speaker 1: excited to We feel like it's the next level in
- 0:45Speaker 1: our progression as a band and just as musicians writing,
- 0:48Speaker 1: just growing, fusing our death metal style, ultimol death metal
- 0:52Speaker 1: style with some thrash metal elements as well.
- 0:56Speaker 2: James came on board last August.
- 1:00Speaker 1: In the finalization of the writing stage as well, so
- 1:04Speaker 1: he'll be on deck four the albums.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Also know we're excited, nice.
- 1:09Speaker 4: And can it tund us a bit more about it
- 1:10Speaker 4: from a musical point of view and what you're actually
- 1:12Speaker 4: going for this time?
- 1:14Speaker 3: Sure, So.
- 1:17Speaker 1: We're all about the old school early nineties US death metal,
- 1:22Speaker 1: so we're just building on that. The EP was four songs,
- 1:25Speaker 1: which we're proud of. The album is just us leveling
- 1:30Speaker 1: it up a bit in terms of speed, diversity, dynamics.
- 1:33Speaker 2: So very much in the vein of the.
- 1:38Speaker 1: EP, but just a few notches up from where we
- 1:41Speaker 1: left off, so very much in the death Morbid Angel
- 1:45Speaker 1: suffocation type of sound. Got lots going on, there's just
- 1:50Speaker 1: different dynamics fast in some paces, slow, just changing it up,
- 1:54Speaker 1: but all about those hooks and just keeping it intense.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Cool released a single Rule by Cold Steel, So is
- 2:02Speaker 4: that a good sonic representation of what to expect or
- 2:05Speaker 4: is that just.
- 2:05Speaker 3: One of the layers?
- 2:07Speaker 2: Well, James answer this one.
- 2:08Speaker 5: Actually yeah, Well that's actually the perfect song to choose
- 2:12Speaker 5: because during the mixing process, we mixed all of the
- 2:16Speaker 5: levels and all of our turns off that one song,
- 2:19Speaker 5: and then we copied that over to the rest of
- 2:21Speaker 5: the album. So really what you're hearing is this sound
- 2:24Speaker 5: we went for for the whole album. So I think
- 2:27Speaker 5: it really is the perfect total sound and mix. And
- 2:31Speaker 5: it also in terms of the writing that we went
- 2:34Speaker 5: for on this album, being just that bit faster, maybe
- 2:38Speaker 5: that bit more technical, and just keeping our old school
- 2:41Speaker 5: sound nice.
- 2:44Speaker 4: So the album actually opens with the title track Rebellions
- 2:46Speaker 4: in Mate, So why choose that song?
- 2:49Speaker 3: To represent the whole body of music, Like what was
- 2:51Speaker 3: so special about that one?
- 2:54Speaker 1: So I think that was one of the ones when
- 2:57Speaker 1: we brought it into the rehearsal room to start building
- 2:59Speaker 1: on it, it was the one I think that caught
- 3:03Speaker 1: our attention first, just because a lot going on. There's
- 3:06Speaker 1: a lot of thrashy parts in there, and there's just
- 3:08Speaker 1: that slammy, groovy hook in there, so just quite diverse
- 3:13Speaker 1: with what's going on, really catchy in terms of how the.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Lyrics are delivered, just the.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Differences in riffs as well as that there's a cool solo.
- 3:24Speaker 1: It's just really catchy, but also straight in your face
- 3:28Speaker 1: and pummeling. So we thought it'd be a good single
- 3:32Speaker 1: because of how catchy it is and how diversity is
- 3:34Speaker 1: with what's going on musically.
- 3:37Speaker 4: You sort of touched on this a little bit, guys,
- 3:39Speaker 4: but I want to elaborate a little bit further, like
- 3:41Speaker 4: how does Ravellin send different musically to Languish and Suffering?
- 3:45Speaker 4: You mentioned progression a few times, man, how specifically.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Yeah, my pustling to James just being I guess when
- 3:53Speaker 1: you're in the band, just fresher set of ears and
- 3:55Speaker 1: eyes just yeah.
- 3:57Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I guess it's also really dialing down on
- 4:01Speaker 5: that old school sound, like it's constant rifts and there's hooks,
- 4:06Speaker 5: and there's you know, really you know classic elements that
- 4:10Speaker 5: you hear in those old school death Finittel albums. And
- 4:13Speaker 5: I think it's a progression from what we wanted from
- 4:17Speaker 5: the EP, Like what the album is really covers what
- 4:21Speaker 5: an Oxya wants to be, I guess heard as So
- 4:26Speaker 5: that's how I would say we progressed musically as a
- 4:30Speaker 5: band from the EP as well. And then yeah, I
- 4:34Speaker 5: mean having to write a whole album versus just an
- 4:37Speaker 5: EP is also a massive step up as well. A
- 4:40Speaker 5: lot of that's from a list as well. Pretty much
- 4:42Speaker 5: all that's from a Lias coming in for me with
- 4:46Speaker 5: everything pre written, I just wrote all my bass on top.
- 4:49Speaker 5: I put in my own elements and put my own character.
- 4:52Speaker 5: I put a bass solo in there and some tappy elements,
- 4:55Speaker 5: so I definitely put my own mark on it. But
- 4:58Speaker 5: a lot of that, all that writing, the riffs of
- 5:00Speaker 5: everything as songwriting, that's that's all I ast. So it's
- 5:03Speaker 5: definitely a big step up from just a simple EPH and.
- 5:08Speaker 4: As a band, like what's your thought process going into
- 5:10Speaker 4: your first album, like do you paint things now, Like
- 5:13Speaker 4: do you sit and listen to EP and rip it
- 5:15Speaker 4: apart and find what worked and what didn't and then
- 5:17Speaker 4: try and take that through to the next one, or
- 5:18Speaker 4: did you just treat it like a fresh body of work.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Yeah, a bit of both.
- 5:22Speaker 1: So we look back at the EP, like you said,
- 5:24Speaker 1: what worked, what didn't, what the strengths were, and then,
- 5:28Speaker 1: because an album requires a lot more diversity, MB just
- 5:34Speaker 1: a longer product in itself, what we wanted to include,
- 5:38Speaker 1: what we want to grow on. So there are those
- 5:42Speaker 1: hooks from the EP, but then there's things that we
- 5:46Speaker 1: haven't done before, like just some really really fast parts
- 5:50Speaker 1: and then just a long song that has big outro
- 5:55Speaker 1: just to finish the album off.
- 5:57Speaker 2: There might be a bit of a spoiler there, but.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Just different elements and flavors that we could put in
- 6:03Speaker 1: because time allowed us to as well as having the
- 6:06Speaker 1: ability to take a step back and solely focus on
- 6:10Speaker 1: writing with the EP, it was different because you're trying
- 6:13Speaker 1: to get your.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Brand out there and your name out there.
- 6:15Speaker 1: We were playing shows whilst in the recording and mixing
- 6:19Speaker 1: phase as well, so it was a combo of trying
- 6:22Speaker 1: to do both. Whereas the album allowed us just to
- 6:24Speaker 1: step back and just solely focus on a product that
- 6:28Speaker 1: a we're proud of and put.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Every bit of energy we put into it.
- 6:32Speaker 1: But then we could do that and then step back
- 6:36Speaker 1: after let it go through mixing, and then solely focus
- 6:38Speaker 1: on touring and promoting it far and wide, which is
- 6:41Speaker 1: the aim.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Now, yeah, nice, and you mentioned a few bands before too,
- 6:46Speaker 4: but you give your sound as being compared to Morbid Angel,
- 6:49Speaker 4: Suffocation and Death. But as I had a band sort of
- 6:53Speaker 4: trying to make them mark in the death metal scene
- 6:55Speaker 4: like there. Obviously the bands are going to influence you,
- 6:58Speaker 4: but how do you put your own it on things
- 7:01Speaker 4: to make the music more more your own?
- 7:04Speaker 1: I'll start and I'll pass it on to James. But
- 7:06Speaker 1: at least from my perspective, what helps us as a
- 7:09Speaker 1: band is we got our core group of bands that
- 7:13Speaker 1: the four of us love and just listen to a lot.
- 7:15Speaker 1: But then we all have our own bands that each
- 7:17Speaker 1: one goes off to and listens to, so kind of
- 7:21Speaker 1: changes it a bit in terms of how we approach
- 7:23Speaker 1: and write things and maybe creative ideas.
- 7:26Speaker 2: But we look at the bands we love as a
- 7:30Speaker 2: building block.
- 7:31Speaker 1: But then we also look at what we want to do,
- 7:33Speaker 1: so we all love death metal, but we also love thrashy,
- 7:36Speaker 1: fast stuff as well as combining those two.
- 7:38Speaker 2: But with our main aim is just to keep the
- 7:41Speaker 2: songs catchy.
- 7:42Speaker 1: We've been told through punters and just peers that the
- 7:47Speaker 1: number one thing that keeps people hooked is that our
- 7:53Speaker 1: set list and our music is quite catchy, which can
- 7:57Speaker 1: be rare for death metal. Death metal usually just purest
- 8:00Speaker 1: fans and very nitpicky fans, which is great, but then
- 8:05Speaker 1: also it's quite refreshing just to hear that our songs
- 8:09Speaker 1: are catchy, even from people that wouldn't necessarily listen to
- 8:12Speaker 1: death metal.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Nice.
- 8:15Speaker 4: Now, you guys are also recently managed by your mate Booking,
- 8:18Speaker 4: so tell us a bit about that and what that
- 8:21Speaker 4: opens up for you as a band.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Give James.
- 8:25Speaker 5: Yeah, this is just a really good opportunity for us
- 8:28Speaker 5: as a bed to just have that extra level of
- 8:31Speaker 5: support behind us, and it's also another layer to help
- 8:38Speaker 5: us be viewed more professionally by other people, because we
- 8:43Speaker 5: all know within ourselves that we're very professional. We all
- 8:46Speaker 5: have the same goal, but finding that fifth number as
- 8:51Speaker 5: such to really push us forward when it comes to
- 8:55Speaker 5: booking domestically, booking on larger tours, booking with other booking,
- 9:00Speaker 5: and then bigger goals like going inter national, go to
- 9:04Speaker 5: Japan and go to Europe. That's that extra layer that
- 9:07Speaker 5: we've been eating, which is just it'll really allow us
- 9:11Speaker 5: to open up to a bigger audience at a bigger
- 9:14Speaker 5: market and just really hit the professional level we want
- 9:19Speaker 5: to be at.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Speaking of turn, you guys have got the album tour
- 9:24Speaker 4: coming up from April to sevent eight, so tell us
- 9:26Speaker 4: about that and where you're going.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Yeah, So seventeenth of April is the release date of
- 9:31Speaker 1: the album and coinciding with that is our Melbourne show,
- 9:35Speaker 1: so that's going to be Sick.
- 9:37Speaker 2: We're playing with were Wolves and Moream.
- 9:40Speaker 1: And Grave Peeler to get things going, and then playing
- 9:44Speaker 1: Canberra a couple of days later with Mooriam, Vexation.
- 9:49Speaker 2: And Black and Dread.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Then we are a couple of weeks after that we
- 9:54Speaker 1: play our hometown Sydney show with Vexation, Horisoness and Old
- 9:59Speaker 1: Goat Smoke which will be Sick and bring that just
- 10:02Speaker 1: to launch the album as well as the social media promos.
- 10:05Speaker 1: But it's just good to tour it, support it and
- 10:09Speaker 1: give it views to people that might not necessarily have
- 10:12Speaker 1: seen it or seen us before. And then off that
- 10:17Speaker 1: where I'm going to do nationwide tour with Vexation and Atheist,
- 10:22Speaker 1: which will be sick as well.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Speaking of people not maybe seeing you guys before, made
- 10:28Speaker 4: run as through a typical and NOXI your live show.
- 10:30Speaker 3: What do we expect from you guys on stage?
- 10:32Speaker 2: There you go for a James.
- 10:34Speaker 5: Well Alias is sort of the stage juggernaut. He will
- 10:40Speaker 5: he will stand there and he will focus on playing
- 10:43Speaker 5: tight playing. He doesn't move a lot, but that's more
- 10:47Speaker 5: of just a physical limitation from Joey. You could expect
- 10:53Speaker 5: plenty of head back head bagging, plenty of a helicopter headbagging,
- 10:59Speaker 5: and he will death stare you in the face and
- 11:03Speaker 5: he will make a p out moved like a cauldron.
- 11:07Speaker 5: For Marco, he's just got that really old school drumming
- 11:12Speaker 5: style that is perfect with his band because he's been
- 11:15Speaker 5: around for for quite a long time now thirty plus
- 11:18Speaker 5: years in the scene, so you could always expect just
- 11:22Speaker 5: kill a drumming and being on time. And then for me,
- 11:27Speaker 5: I'm sort of a blend of Elias and Joey. I
- 11:33Speaker 5: will headbang and I'll and I'll get the crowd going,
- 11:36Speaker 5: but I'll also sit down and I'll focus on the
- 11:38Speaker 5: riffs and be on time. And yeah, I think as
- 11:42Speaker 5: a group, it really just you know, pulls the whole
- 11:44Speaker 5: route together.
- 11:47Speaker 4: I mean, Friday, you go, guys. I've got a new
- 11:48Speaker 4: segment I'm introduced called photo Bombs. So basically before we speak,
- 11:52Speaker 4: I troll through social media and I'll find a couple
- 11:54Speaker 4: of photos that I want to ask a little bit
- 11:56Speaker 4: more about. So what I've come up with is what's
- 12:01Speaker 4: going on in made like? The dog doesn't look like
- 12:03Speaker 4: it's too fucking happy?
- 12:05Speaker 5: Ah. Yeah, this was we were recording drums outside of
- 12:12Speaker 5: the Bread Recording studio with with the bed and this
- 12:18Speaker 5: was just this dog across the road. And yeah he
- 12:21Speaker 5: was he was eyeing us up, for sure.
- 12:24Speaker 3: But he went over to try and paddim because he
- 12:25Speaker 3: was on the off.
- 12:27Speaker 5: Yeah, well, there's a fence, so there's a there's a
- 12:30Speaker 5: there's only a small level of trust I have for
- 12:33Speaker 5: a dog that's behind a fence. But he was I
- 12:36Speaker 5: think he just wanted some food, to be honest.
- 12:38Speaker 3: There beautiful dogs, aren't they Huskies? So so good all right?
- 12:42Speaker 4: And the other one I found this right here. Looks
- 12:45Speaker 4: like a fucking hell of a time.
- 12:49Speaker 2: That was fun. So that was.
- 12:52Speaker 1: About just under a year and a half ago. We
- 12:55Speaker 1: played a boat show with It was of Cold, it
- 13:01Speaker 1: was King Parrot, it was Dark Horse and ourselves and
- 13:06Speaker 1: I was just with all the bands and the crew
- 13:09Speaker 1: after after the day had wrapped up, when we're heading
- 13:13Speaker 1: back to unload. So that was just a sick show
- 13:16Speaker 1: along Sydney Harbor, played right before King Parrots, so it
- 13:19Speaker 1: was different, but also in the sense of seeing people
- 13:23Speaker 1: CrowdSurf and circled death and whatnot and washing just on
- 13:27Speaker 1: a boat on the Sydney Harbor on a summers day,
- 13:29Speaker 1: it was pretty cool.
- 13:30Speaker 3: What about down in front of air Is he dead?
- 13:33Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 13:34Speaker 2: Uh no he's not. He could actually be. That's Tom.
- 13:38Speaker 1: He ran the day, did a great job on that,
- 13:41Speaker 1: so I think he's just puffed after just a.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Day of smashing out organization and all that.
- 13:46Speaker 5: I actually I actually took that photo, so there go
- 13:49Speaker 5: a spirit.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Yeah mane, Well, thanks very much for your time, guys.
- 13:54Speaker 3: It's been a pleasure revel in.
- 13:56Speaker 4: Seeingeys out April seventy, followed by a tour around US
- 13:59Speaker 4: awaken people to find out more or to get your stuff.
- 14:03Speaker 2: They can go through our Facebook, our Instagram.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Our instagram is a link in it as well to
- 14:08Speaker 1: all our other pages, even just YouTube leef websites, merge,
- 14:12Speaker 1: whatnot starting point for them and yeah,
