- 0:11Speaker 1: that were originally recorded back in September and October of
- 0:15Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. So enjoy the Chicken Sisters and enjoy
- 0:19Speaker 1: these recaps and reviews. This is a bramble Jam podcast.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Homemark review podcast. I'm
- 0:46Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. I'm when Dan,
- 0:49Speaker 1: I'm a former Hallmark hater. Today we're discussing Chicken Sisters
- 0:53Speaker 1: Episode six.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I Choose to be Happy. Y'all.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Streaming exclusively on the Hallmark Plus platform. Hey, we'd love
- 1:02Speaker 1: to be your friend. When the podcast is over, check
- 1:04Speaker 1: in with us, hang out on Instagram where we have
- 1:08Speaker 1: two Instagram accounts. Girls Gone Hallmark and it's about to
- 1:12Speaker 1: be firing on all cylinders with Q four content, y'all.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Countdown to Christmas, all the new Hallmark Plus stuff.
- 1:22Speaker 2: We've got the cruise coming.
- 1:25Speaker 1: We are Girls Gone Homewark as well as Megan and Wendy.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah, we're just.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Gonna be churning it. Out every single day, send coffee.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I'm already tired and we haven't even checked off countdown
- 1:38Speaker 1: to Christmas yet, and I'm having hardcore deja vu right now.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Like I said the same thing last year, it's like
- 1:45Speaker 1: birthing a baby. I think, Oh, the anticipation is worse
- 1:48Speaker 1: than the worse than the reality. Yeah, because I'm very
- 1:53Speaker 1: excited for countdown to Christmas, and when I look back
- 1:56Speaker 1: on last year and the year before, it was a
- 1:57Speaker 1: lot of fun.
- 1:58Speaker 2: It doesn't.
- 1:59Speaker 1: It didn't feel overwhelming, but just leading into it feels
- 2:03Speaker 1: like a lot of stuff happening. Well, I was gonna
- 2:05Speaker 1: say the same thing about last year. I know we
- 2:08Speaker 1: looked at our schedule and we were like, let's go right,
- 2:11Speaker 1: but doing it didn't feel burdensome. So I think, yes,
- 2:17Speaker 1: the anticipation is stressing us out. A love it.
- 2:20Speaker 2: It's gonna be great.
- 2:22Speaker 1: You know it's gonna be great. The problem for me, though,
- 2:26Speaker 1: is Hallmark Plus to be quite oh h, why are
- 2:31Speaker 1: we dropping Groom's Men days before Countdown to Christmas starts? Yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 1: that's an interesting choice other than I mean, they want
- 2:43Speaker 1: adding value to the platform, Yeah, exactly. They know Tyler
- 2:48Speaker 1: is going to bring the eyes to the platform. I
- 2:51Speaker 1: get it, I get it, I get it. I get
- 2:53Speaker 1: it to me in my mind though, it's like, you know,
- 2:56Speaker 1: January's rough for Hallmark. Like we know on our end
- 3:00Speaker 1: that we lose listeners on Girls Gone Hallmark, right, Like
- 3:03Speaker 1: we get an influx of listeners for countdown to Christmas
- 3:05Speaker 1: and then people are like, Christmas is over, I don't
- 3:07Speaker 1: watch Hallmark the rest of the year, and then they
- 3:09Speaker 1: tap out. I'm sure Hallmark is the same way, right,
- 3:12Speaker 1: Like this ten weeks is their bread and butter. But
- 3:16Speaker 1: maybe this isn't going to be your Hallmark plus bread
- 3:19Speaker 1: and butter. Maybe you need to add value in January
- 3:22Speaker 1: and be like stick around, y'all. We got Tyler Hines
- 3:25Speaker 1: right up top. Mm hmm exactly. I think they should
- 3:29Speaker 1: drop it to January, but that's just my opinion. We
- 3:33Speaker 1: will be reviewing the Groomsmen come back next week. By that,
- 3:38Speaker 1: as much as we're complaining about it right now, we
- 3:40Speaker 1: will be reviewing the Groomsmen. Yeah. I'm gonna watch the
- 3:42Speaker 1: hell out of it no matter when they drop it.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Don't join our Girls Gone Hallmark Facebook group.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Lots of Coop.
- 3:50Speaker 1: People over there talking Hallmark and Hallmark adjacent, not a
- 3:55Speaker 1: whole lot of adjacent stuff, but just you know, everything
- 3:57Speaker 1: happening on the Hallmark in universe. Indeed, now I want
- 4:02Speaker 1: to hear an episode synopsis. All Right, s's episode six.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I choose to be happy, y'all. Amanda tries her best
- 4:10Speaker 1: to be be despite current events, but she's not convincing herself. Meanwhile,
- 4:15Speaker 1: the kitchen clash competition comes to a head. This episode
- 4:21Speaker 1: was written by Carrie Carney. She is an actress who
- 4:24Speaker 1: has been in shows like Scandal, Grey's Anatomy, and New Girl.
- 4:29Speaker 1: According to IMDb, this is her first writing credit other
- 4:33Speaker 1: than a short she wrote in twenty ten.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Ohay. Director Shannon Coley returns for this episode. She did
- 4:41Speaker 2: episode five as well.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Let's take a quick break and we'll come right back
- 4:45Speaker 1: with more Chicken Sisters. We have an email and I
- 4:48Speaker 1: think now would be the right time to read it
- 4:50Speaker 1: and discuss some of the content here. This is from
- 4:55Speaker 1: listener Paula, who says, Hi, again, I hate doing this
- 4:58Speaker 1: because you two are great, but I still I think
- 5:00Speaker 1: you're missing some things, specifically Amanda. She's tragic, but far
- 5:04Speaker 1: from unlikable. Her plight is probably a more common occurrence
- 5:07Speaker 1: than what may accomplished. We all know women who are
- 5:10Speaker 1: stuck in these circumstances and feel powerless. On the surface,
- 5:13Speaker 1: as you mentioned, her life seems fine, and that's what
- 5:15Speaker 1: happens in this situation. It's her strength that is made
- 5:17Speaker 1: that possible. She's made bad decisions and doesn't know what
- 5:20Speaker 1: to do. That's so real. That last scene in her
- 5:23Speaker 1: house was heartbreaking. It reminded me of Carrie Russell and Waitress,
- 5:26Speaker 1: only she doesn't get a baby at the end or
- 5:28Speaker 1: a bunch of cash. There's more about This is already
- 5:31Speaker 1: too long think about it. Thank you for your patience,
- 5:34Speaker 1: so let's talk about it. First off, don't ever apologize
- 5:37Speaker 1: for having a different opinion, yes than what we have.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Like we are telling you guys to email us to
- 5:45Speaker 1: slide into the DMS to join our Facebook group. I
- 5:48Speaker 1: love the conversation, so let's have it. With that said,
- 5:53Speaker 1: I respectfully disagree. Okay, I just I don't like Amanda.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I am sorry. I maybe am empathetic to her situation,
- 6:06Speaker 1: but especially after this episode, girl is just making some
- 6:11Speaker 1: terrible decisions and I can't root for her. I've spent
- 6:17Speaker 1: so much time ruminating on this email since it came
- 6:20Speaker 1: in and I one hundred percent Agrea, please email us
- 6:23Speaker 1: your differing opinions. I agree with somethings Paula says here,
- 6:28Speaker 1: like I do think that she's in a very common situation.
- 6:31Speaker 1: I think women get in unhappy marriages with disappointing husbands
- 6:34Speaker 1: all the time.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I think women get in positions where they feel stuck
- 6:39Speaker 2: all the time.
- 6:40Speaker 1: And I also agree that the fact that her life
- 6:43Speaker 1: has goodness to it is largely due to the fact
- 6:47Speaker 1: that she has made it that way. I agree with
- 6:49Speaker 1: all of that. That being said, I have a question,
- 6:53Speaker 1: do you think Frank Junior, based on the information that
- 6:56Speaker 1: we have, is abusive, not physically, no, verbally perhaps, Yeah,
- 7:04Speaker 1: we don't have any evidencities physically abusive. And he's a
- 7:07Speaker 1: jerk and he's not a great husband. I don't even
- 7:12Speaker 1: know that he would be considered verbally abusive. I mean,
- 7:14Speaker 1: he's he's not nice, but he doesn't seem to be berating.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Her in any way.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I'm not suggesting that she's in a happy marriage and
- 7:22Speaker 1: she should stick around. I'm not suggesting any of that.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I'm just saying I get that she feels stuck. Nevertheless,
- 7:29Speaker 1: to me, her behavior makes her unlikable to me the
- 7:33Speaker 1: way she treats everyone around her, even people who are
- 7:38Speaker 1: trying to step in and be helpful. And I agree
- 7:41Speaker 1: with you. This episode did her in no favors.
- 7:46Speaker 2: So yeah, I agree.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I'm questioning why the Frank Junior question well, because I'm
- 7:51Speaker 1: thinking if he were abusive, you could say, like, she
- 7:56Speaker 1: doesn't have any power, right, she is afraid to make
- 8:00Speaker 1: a change, but he's not. He's just a bad guy.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And I understand that she's like, well, my whole life
- 8:06Speaker 1: is tied up in Frank Junior and his family. My
- 8:09Speaker 1: like she loves Nancy, her place in the world, Franny's
- 8:12Speaker 1: is all tied up in her husband. So I get
- 8:15Speaker 1: that she doesn't feel like she has the ability to
- 8:16Speaker 1: make a change, but she's not in danger. And if
- 8:21Speaker 1: you were to swap the gender roles here, and you
- 8:24Speaker 1: were to show a man who's in an unhappy marriage,
- 8:28Speaker 1: whose wife does not treat him well, who then goes
- 8:31Speaker 1: on to find comfort in another woman outside of the marriage,
- 8:35Speaker 1: you would not be saying like, oh, I understand you're
- 8:38Speaker 1: feeling powerless. You'd be like, dude, if you're unhappy in
- 8:40Speaker 1: your marriage, leave being unhappy in your marriage. I don't
- 8:44Speaker 1: think excuses choosing to be with another person. I agree, Yeah, okay,
- 8:53Speaker 1: I love the conversation. So Paula, if you have more thoughts,
- 8:56Speaker 1: please send him our way. Keep them coming. Jumping in
- 9:00Speaker 1: to the key moments in this episode, I have to
- 9:03Speaker 1: be honest, I did not understand the first couple of scenes. Why.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Like they're talking about Gus and what created her distrust
- 9:14Speaker 1: in men, And there's the scene where the cops like,
- 9:17Speaker 1: I really appreciate it, and she's like, maybe you should
- 9:21Speaker 1: show it, and I was like, what is she asking
- 9:22Speaker 1: him to do there?
- 9:24Speaker 2: Like I couldn't.
- 9:25Speaker 1: She just kind of gives him a look, did you
- 9:28Speaker 1: understand what was happening there?
- 9:30Speaker 2: Well?
- 9:30Speaker 1: Over not in that particular scene, Like, I don't know
- 9:33Speaker 1: what she wanted specifically from him other than I mean
- 9:36Speaker 1: he said I appreciate it, you know, but in terms
- 9:41Speaker 1: of yes, I don't think she trusts men in general,
- 9:45Speaker 1: and the fact that she has found such solace and
- 9:49Speaker 1: these men in her community as an adult, you know,
- 9:53Speaker 1: obviously with Kenneth and Patrick and Sergio. That's what I
- 9:57Speaker 1: took from it. I just felt like we were supposed
- 10:01Speaker 1: to understand what was going on there. And then she's
- 10:03Speaker 1: like also chasing that other guy on. She's like, don't
- 10:05Speaker 1: forget your wedding ring. I'm like, am I supposed to know.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Who that is? M yeah, yeah, no idea. I didn't really.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I'm just saying I I watched it twice that those
- 10:15Speaker 1: short scenes, and I didn't understand it. But obviously we're
- 10:17Speaker 1: building up to like Gus doesn't trust men except for
- 10:22Speaker 1: then Kenneth and Patrick and Sergio kind of swoop in
- 10:25Speaker 1: and build this like little circle of trust for her, right,
- 10:33Speaker 1: all right. We also get a Gin reveal and I
- 10:36Speaker 1: was wrong. Well, he is a healer.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Of the mind, and I appreciate that.
- 10:45Speaker 1: The narrator is like, I've made you all wait long enough,
- 10:49Speaker 1: here's the deal, and we get several mentions they're really
- 10:54Speaker 1: laying it on thick with something that's going on with
- 10:56Speaker 1: Gus's health in this episode. And sorry, I'm running out
- 11:02Speaker 1: of patients with this show. I don't know if you
- 11:04Speaker 1: can tell. And when I was watching it, in my mind,
- 11:09Speaker 1: I'm like, this is episode seven. They don't have a
- 11:11Speaker 1: whole lot of time to wrap it up, but it
- 11:13Speaker 1: is not. It is episode six, so I can kind
- 11:15Speaker 1: of see the trajectory of the end of the show
- 11:19Speaker 1: related to this. It happens later. But I would just
- 11:22Speaker 1: like to say that, even though I was not one
- 11:23Speaker 1: hundred percent correct about Jin, we called it last week.
- 11:27Speaker 1: She did not sleep with Frank Junior. Frank Senior, you
- 11:31Speaker 1: were right about that. God, I hope she didn't sleep Yes,
- 11:36Speaker 1: you are correct about the Frank Senior, for he was
- 11:40Speaker 1: just a piece of crab. Of course he's gonna say
- 11:43Speaker 1: that he fooled around with her. Isn't that interesting that
- 11:47Speaker 1: he felt more comfortable telling his wife, Oh, I slept
- 11:52Speaker 1: with Gus the night before our wedding, rather than letting
- 11:56Speaker 1: her in on the fact that he's like trying to
- 11:59Speaker 1: get Mimi's.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Tape get away from her.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Yeah, but that feels like the high road that he took. Yeah. Wow,
- 12:08Speaker 1: this just generally, what is the word I'm looking for?
- 12:14Speaker 1: I don't I don't know what I was gonna say. Sorry,
- 12:17Speaker 1: that's okay. I here's my thoughts about Jin. First of all,
- 12:25Speaker 1: I and May, not May's health and Gus's health. I
- 12:30Speaker 1: it has taken way too long to get to this,
- 12:33Speaker 1: Like they set this up in episode one, like it
- 12:35Speaker 1: doesn't need to be this big secret. It is not
- 12:38Speaker 1: salacious by any means. Perhaps where they're from, it might
- 12:45Speaker 1: be you know this this whole town and these whole families.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I feel like it's built on secrets, right, so like
- 12:52Speaker 1: they uh don't want to show Gus actually receiving help
- 12:57Speaker 1: from a man.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Hmm, It's just.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Like let's just get there. Like, I think the storytelling
- 13:06Speaker 1: is far more interesting to talk about the stuff that
- 13:09Speaker 1: Gus is going through other than like alluding to her
- 13:13Speaker 1: having some affair when he is just a doctor of medicine. Yeah,
- 13:18Speaker 1: I fully agree that I would rather be like dealing
- 13:21Speaker 1: with the actual issues and the aftermath. When she was like, oh,
- 13:24Speaker 1: can you imagine what would happen if I came into
- 13:25Speaker 1: your office? I'm like, what are people gonna say to me?
- 13:29Speaker 1: Have you ever heard like stories of nurses who are like, oh,
- 13:31Speaker 1: we know, if a farmer comes into the emergency room,
- 13:33Speaker 1: it's because he's like lost an arm. Like they don't
- 13:34Speaker 1: come in for if if they're coming in, it's like
- 13:36Speaker 1: a big freaking deal.
- 13:38Speaker 2: And so I'm wondering.
- 13:40Speaker 1: If it's like the same situation, like the town scene
- 13:43Speaker 1: sees Gus seeking this alternative medical treatment, maybe they're like, oh,
- 13:46Speaker 1: something really bad must be going on with her and
- 13:50Speaker 1: it reveals more than she wants to.
- 13:54Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 13:55Speaker 1: I do think I think, like you said, they started
- 13:59Speaker 1: teasing the too early, like they were teasing it in
- 14:03Speaker 1: episode one, and I do think it was perhaps let
- 14:09Speaker 1: go on too long. They could have added this in
- 14:13Speaker 1: three episodes ago and maybe given us some teasers there exactly.
- 14:18Speaker 1: And I don't think I mean obviously because I know
- 14:22Speaker 1: you told me what her health situation is from the book.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Do you think that is.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Going to be her health situation in the show. I
- 14:32Speaker 1: think it definitely seems like they're hinting. The hints they
- 14:36Speaker 1: have dropped have led me to believe that that could
- 14:39Speaker 1: be true. Yes, Okay, it could be something else, though,
- 14:42Speaker 1: I mean it's all pretty vague. She's like rubbing her
- 14:44Speaker 1: hands and stumbling and dealing with muscle eggs. We have
- 14:48Speaker 1: Frank Junior continuing on his Dude Bro journey and I
- 14:54Speaker 1: cannot tell you the rage I feel. And he's listening
- 14:56Speaker 1: to his like Man Kingdom podcast.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Hard Hard.
- 15:03Speaker 1: What's funny is the guy called it an app, But
- 15:08Speaker 1: I was like, why didn't he say I have a podcast,
- 15:10Speaker 1: like be a beta tester of my app? But basically
- 15:13Speaker 1: the app is just like these verbal affirmations anyway.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Yeah, that's interesting.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I didn't put that together, but you're right, let's call
- 15:24Speaker 1: it what it is.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I mean maybe they're like, we don't want to be
- 15:29Speaker 1: the Hallmark Joe Rogan, but I was just gonna say,
- 15:33Speaker 1: Joe Rogan, that's funny.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:39Speaker 1: I mean Frank Junior, he doesn't need affirmations to be
- 15:45Speaker 1: any worse than he probably is already. And we'll just
- 15:50Speaker 1: talk about it at the end when he makes his
- 15:53Speaker 1: phone call about the calling the health department or whatever
- 15:58Speaker 1: a Mimi's actually he's calling it on Gus his house
- 16:02Speaker 1: behind Mimi's, right, Uh huh, what a piece of you
- 16:07Speaker 1: know what?
- 16:08Speaker 2: Yep.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Oh, And the narrator is like, oh, his dad would
- 16:13Speaker 1: be proud, essentially, and I was like, gross, Like I
- 16:17Speaker 1: just cannot stand the men in this family. I think
- 16:22Speaker 1: it's a really interesting storytelling choice to include this storyline
- 16:26Speaker 1: for Frank Junior, who, as we mentioned, was not a
- 16:28Speaker 1: character in the book who was alive.
- 16:30Speaker 2: So this is not behavior that we would have seen.
- 16:33Speaker 1: So this is a choice that the writers of the
- 16:38Speaker 1: series have made, and I think it is a really
- 16:41Speaker 1: interesting choice given our political climate to like watch in
- 16:46Speaker 1: a very lighthearted way, like the radicalization of some of
- 16:49Speaker 1: these guys via just being told things that they want
- 16:53Speaker 1: to believe about themselves. I just saw TikTok the other
- 16:57Speaker 1: day that said, when you don't know anything, everything's like
- 17:00Speaker 1: a conspiracy, and that is what I was thinking of
- 17:03Speaker 1: when I was watching Frank Junior spiral down his I
- 17:10Speaker 1: gotta I gotta go and he goes and like tanks
- 17:12Speaker 1: up on his Kingdom Talk in the truck co Gross,
- 17:17Speaker 1: it's so great. It felt it felt like like an
- 17:20Speaker 1: addict would do that, Like they would have to run
- 17:22Speaker 1: out and like take a hit of whatever their drug
- 17:24Speaker 1: of choice is. But he's got to run out and
- 17:28Speaker 1: put this podcast in his ears.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:32Speaker 1: So, as we're talking about this, I'm thinking, not only
- 17:36Speaker 1: do I not like Frank Junior as this character, right
- 17:39Speaker 1: it he comes from this I mean obviously his dad
- 17:43Speaker 1: was a bad dude as well, But then there starts
- 17:46Speaker 1: to be like this stigma of like where they're from,
- 17:50Speaker 1: right and there I'm not saying I believe this, but
- 17:54Speaker 1: there could be a stereotype that they're from the country
- 17:58Speaker 1: and maybe not as educated as other people in our country, right, Uh, huh,
- 18:04Speaker 1: and therefore it just gives like a bad look on
- 18:12Speaker 1: like small town people. Is this makeing sense as I'm
- 18:17Speaker 1: like spitting it out, No, I think it makes sense.
- 18:20Speaker 1: It's not the vibe I am getting. But I think
- 18:23Speaker 1: when you I think it's easy when you're putting a
- 18:28Speaker 1: character who is from a small town in a position
- 18:31Speaker 1: of being like easily swept up, that's not a big.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Leap to make, right.
- 18:40Speaker 1: But I also think you could put any any man
- 18:45Speaker 1: in this position and find him. There's a in fifty states.
- 18:50Speaker 1: You could find a dude who's susceptible to this kind
- 18:54Speaker 1: of talk. Absolutely, Like any man who feels like he
- 18:58Speaker 1: does not have the power or that he quote deserves
- 19:02Speaker 1: is the target audience.
- 19:03Speaker 2: For this guy.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Now get me to the end of the story here,
- 19:07Speaker 1: because I don't know what the resolve is here?
- 19:14Speaker 2: Like resolve? Did I need to do it again? The resolution?
- 19:22Speaker 1: Wh is the resolution here? Because we have two episodes?
- 19:27Speaker 1: Frank is super unlikable. If if this series follows the
- 19:33Speaker 1: book by any means, how are we gonna get these
- 19:38Speaker 1: two restaurants to coexist with these terrible people? And yeah,
- 19:44Speaker 1: that it'd be successful for me. Frank Junior is the point,
- 19:47Speaker 1: the part that I don't understand how we're gonna work around,
- 19:50Speaker 1: because again I've read the book.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I know the general resolution. I can see that.
- 19:54Speaker 1: That could be a place that we're working towards. I
- 19:56Speaker 1: could see leaving things open for a second season. I
- 20:00Speaker 1: don't know how you handle the Frank Junior of it
- 20:04Speaker 1: all in the resolution that I see happening in this show.
- 20:09Speaker 1: So I'm very curious. I know you are so over
- 20:13Speaker 1: the show. I still enjoy watching it as much as
- 20:15Speaker 1: I enjoy tearing apart some of these characters and their decisions.
- 20:19Speaker 1: I'm still invested in the show. I actually think this
- 20:22Speaker 1: could be the rare show where in season two might
- 20:25Speaker 1: be more entertaining, because there's so many secrets throughout this season,
- 20:33Speaker 1: and I don't really love that sort of storytelling when
- 20:39Speaker 1: it's dragged on so long. I mean, the Frank Senior
- 20:43Speaker 1: secret took us six episodes to get to the truth
- 20:46Speaker 1: of who he is and all of these other little secrets.
- 20:51Speaker 1: It's not my favorite, but I'm very curious to see
- 20:56Speaker 1: where the wrap up goes here because Frank to me
- 21:00Speaker 1: is the outlier, Like I can really see everybody else
- 21:03Speaker 1: in this town finding a way to coexist. But Frank
- 21:08Speaker 1: Junior's the nail on the tire and I don't know
- 21:10Speaker 1: how you how where's he gonna go? How are you
- 21:12Speaker 1: gonna handle that?
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. Hey, Nancy was.
- 21:16Speaker 1: So gross in this episode too, because she's just she
- 21:20Speaker 1: did very briefly say like she questioned him on why
- 21:25Speaker 1: he got the best act to me and talked about
- 21:27Speaker 1: like children are a blessing and he's such a jerk
- 21:28Speaker 1: and throwst ryback at her and why did you.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Only have one?
- 21:31Speaker 1: As if he couldn't think of a single possible reason
- 21:33Speaker 1: why his mother only had one child. But she's like, oh,
- 21:40Speaker 1: the women of Kitchen Clash need some eye candy, And
- 21:43Speaker 1: I thought, see gross, I know, I know, don't stop
- 21:48Speaker 1: making excuses to your son. I just I'm telling you,
- 21:52Speaker 1: I feel like some of these characters are so lean
- 21:57Speaker 1: into stereotypes and I just don't like it.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Yeah, she's a real enabler.
- 22:04Speaker 1: I just it is really frustrating to watch.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I would like to.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Speak about the whole kitchen class Kitchen Clash competition, the
- 22:15Speaker 1: side dish competish. I actually enjoyed that part of it.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I wish they had more of that stuff in this
- 22:22Speaker 1: show really, because that is the whole point is that
- 22:27Speaker 1: they're there for a competition, right, Yeah. But I but
- 22:32Speaker 1: I did enjoy it. I did enjoy that Frank's you know,
- 22:36Speaker 1: kind of head exploded a little bit because he wasn't
- 22:38Speaker 1: able to make his.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Recipe as planned. Uh huh.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And I was not surprised by any means that him
- 22:46Speaker 1: and studio got into a fight at the end. Actually
- 22:50Speaker 1: was a little surprised by that in terms of it
- 22:55Speaker 1: being on Hallmark, like if oh yeah, like, uh huh.
- 22:59Speaker 1: But I'm not surprised by any of it because Frank
- 23:03Speaker 1: is Frank. Yeah, all of the Frank Junior moments did
- 23:08Speaker 1: not surprise me in that. I will say, I actually
- 23:12Speaker 1: think it's kind of dumb that they're creating brand new
- 23:14Speaker 1: side dishes that they've never made before. This is not
- 23:17Speaker 1: a chef competition. This is a battle of the two restaurants,
- 23:20Speaker 1: and it doesn't seem to me to be in the
- 23:22Speaker 1: spirit of the competition to judge which restaurant is best.
- 23:25Speaker 1: If they're like, hey, you two guys that work here,
- 23:27Speaker 1: come up with brand new stuff. I think it's fun
- 23:31Speaker 1: as a side piece, but given that we haven't seen
- 23:35Speaker 1: and I hope we're getting there, but we haven't seen
- 23:37Speaker 1: any sort.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Of like.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Restaurant action as opposed to that just being a setting
- 23:43Speaker 1: like show Me Kitchen Clash doing little mini segments that
- 23:48Speaker 1: feature the actual restaurants in their food mm hmm.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Well, if I liken it to one of my all
- 23:56Speaker 1: time favorite reality TV shows, vander Pump, that show was
- 24:01Speaker 1: not about working in a restaurant. It was about the
- 24:05Speaker 1: people who worked in a restaurant, right, all all their
- 24:08Speaker 1: secrets and misbehaving, misbehaviors whatever. The Chicken Sisters is the
- 24:16Speaker 1: Hallmark equivalent of vander Pump Rules. That's that's the way
- 24:20Speaker 1: to sell it, man, That's how you get people over
- 24:22Speaker 1: to the network. Maybe in this whole truck situation, Yeah,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I hated every single minute of it. I'm like, what
- 24:31Speaker 1: are you doing? One thousand percent agree with you. I
- 24:35Speaker 1: was like, Amanda, you need to leave your husband.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Stop.
- 24:37Speaker 1: It's not funny anymore. Like can't you can understand like
- 24:41Speaker 1: you have one frustrated moment and you kiss somebody in
- 24:43Speaker 1: a kitchen because tensions are running high, but like getting
- 24:46Speaker 1: in his truck driving out to the middle of nowhere,
- 24:48Speaker 1: and then the moment where like.
- 24:51Speaker 2: They get caught on the seatbelt.
- 24:52Speaker 1: That's the moment where you need to be like, maybe
- 24:54Speaker 1: this is the best idea, and said she straddles him
- 24:57Speaker 1: in his life.
- 25:00Speaker 2: I just don't find it cute.
- 25:02Speaker 1: No, I'm you know, sometimes when you watch movies or shows,
- 25:06Speaker 1: and we've talked about this, I'm not gonna clutch my
- 25:09Speaker 1: pearls out of this kind of stuff. Like typically, I like,
- 25:13Speaker 1: as a viewer when there's something Sully happening, it makes
- 25:16Speaker 1: it for good TV. This is just wrong in so
- 25:19Speaker 1: many ways. And I think it's mostly because of last
- 25:24Speaker 1: episode where she chose to go back to her husband. Yes,
- 25:29Speaker 1: in the next episode she's like with Sergio again. I'm like,
- 25:35Speaker 1: stop it, stop it. And like I said before, I
- 25:39Speaker 1: don't buy this relationship at all because there has not
- 25:43Speaker 1: been enough time for these two Surgerio and Amanda to
- 25:48Speaker 1: have gotten to know each other and develop feelings for
- 25:51Speaker 1: each other. It's maybe they're just operating fully on like
- 25:54Speaker 1: some sort of physical connection. But in this truck scene,
- 25:58Speaker 1: they're like confessing, They're like, you know, feelings for each other.
- 26:03Speaker 1: I'm like, how did we even get here? I just
- 26:06Speaker 1: don't I can't buy into it. I can't get excited
- 26:10Speaker 1: for it. I don't care about it. It makes me
- 26:12Speaker 1: dislike Amanda more. Yeah, I really like Sergio a lot.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I am not rooting for this relationship, and I kind
- 26:22Speaker 1: of wish that I was, because I hate Frank Junior
- 26:24Speaker 1: so much. But I in the moment where he's like,
- 26:31Speaker 1: I'm not a player. I mean like maybe I was,
- 26:33Speaker 1: but like, I'm putting down roots and he drives her
- 26:36Speaker 1: out to show like I'm here for the long haul.
- 26:39Speaker 1: And I agree with you. We don't know enough about
- 26:44Speaker 1: these two to suggest that there are real feelings. How
- 26:48Speaker 1: much time has passed two weeks, I don't know, and
- 26:53Speaker 1: they spend very little actual time together because they're on
- 26:56Speaker 1: opposite sides of kitchen clash.
- 26:58Speaker 2: So I agree with you.
- 27:01Speaker 1: And I also want to add I'm not only hating
- 27:04Speaker 1: on amandet If Sergio I'm putting down roots, I'm this
- 27:08Speaker 1: good guy, have some fucking integrity and be like, I'm
- 27:11Speaker 1: sorry you're married, Like if if you want to be
- 27:15Speaker 1: with me, you need to leave your husband, give me
- 27:18Speaker 1: a call when that is no longer the case. Yeah, like,
- 27:21Speaker 1: uh ah, I hate it. I hate it so much.
- 27:25Speaker 1: May and Kenneth and their reconciliation Yestiz. I think that
- 27:31Speaker 1: was cute, but I thought it was interesting, like because
- 27:34Speaker 1: Kenneth kind of welcomed me back, like he was there
- 27:38Speaker 1: day one helping her repaint Mimi's. He gave her a
- 27:41Speaker 1: place to stay at their inn, and now all of
- 27:45Speaker 1: a sudden he's like, actually, you have some sins to
- 27:49Speaker 1: a tone for a lady, mm hmm. But I did
- 27:53Speaker 1: think it was cute that she came around and she
- 27:55Speaker 1: would acknowledge like, I've expected you to be there for
- 27:58Speaker 1: me and I was not there for you, And that
- 28:01Speaker 1: was a nice friendship moment. It just further cements for
- 28:06Speaker 1: me that May is the one and only character on
- 28:09Speaker 1: this show who has had the most growth.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and there's even.
- 28:14Speaker 1: A scene where she kind of is talking about Amanda
- 28:18Speaker 1: about how like she's always going to choose Frank Junior.
- 28:20Speaker 1: But the tone of her voice is not angry as
- 28:24Speaker 1: disappointed as I think she was in last episode when
- 28:26Speaker 1: she makes the choice to go back to Frank Junior.
- 28:29Speaker 1: I expect her to be kind of salty with Amanda,
- 28:32Speaker 1: and she kind of is like, this is that's who
- 28:33Speaker 1: my sister is, and it's just accepting, And I thought
- 28:38Speaker 1: it makes her look so much like the bigger person
- 28:41Speaker 1: in this scenario. I have a couple of little things,
- 28:45Speaker 1: but they're mostly in my cluckworthy moments.
- 28:47Speaker 2: So let's move on.
- 28:49Speaker 1: I liked the story of Amanda learning that Frankie is
- 28:53Speaker 1: going to go to New York and audition, And here's
- 28:57Speaker 1: what I liked about it. I liked like she confronts
- 28:59Speaker 1: me and me He's like, what the hell am I
- 29:01Speaker 1: supposed to do? Like I'm letting her stay in my
- 29:03Speaker 1: house instead of on the street, Like obviously I'm doing
- 29:06Speaker 1: the right thing here. But what I really liked is
- 29:09Speaker 1: in the car and Amanda's like, I don't understand why
- 29:12Speaker 1: you wouldn't tell me, And Frankie's like what Frankie doesn't
- 29:14Speaker 1: come right out and say is like because you never
- 29:17Speaker 1: got to leave, You're stuck here and I might get
- 29:19Speaker 1: out and I feel guilty about that. But Amanda's like,
- 29:23Speaker 1: I will love you forever, and unconditional love is a thing.
- 29:26Speaker 2: And Frankie's like, how the hell am I supposed to
- 29:28Speaker 2: know that? Look at our family.
- 29:30Speaker 1: You and mom don't have a relationship, You and your
- 29:32Speaker 1: sister don't have a relationship.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Why would I be led to believe that I'm the
- 29:38Speaker 2: change in this family.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Like, yeah, totally, that's such a good point.
- 29:43Speaker 2: So I loved that.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I loved well kind of rewinding a little bit,
- 29:52Speaker 1: Sabrina and Lindsay have this like nice moment, right, yes,
- 29:56Speaker 1: and Sabrina tells Amanda, Oh, we had this like nice
- 30:00Speaker 1: moment together, and that is the vehicle of how Amanda
- 30:03Speaker 1: ends up finding out about Frankie's plans to go to
- 30:07Speaker 1: New York. I just thought it was that was nicely done,
- 30:12Speaker 1: other than you know, Amanda finding out some other way,
- 30:15Speaker 1: but I just thought that was it was well done.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:19Speaker 1: I liked how she's like, you're producing me and Spreen
- 30:21Speaker 1: was like, no, but I wish I was. Speaking of Lindsay.
- 30:25Speaker 1: I like that she had that fun moment of like
- 30:27Speaker 1: showing her producing instinct, Like you see her off camera
- 30:30Speaker 1: and you almost think she's like looking down her nose
- 30:33Speaker 1: at like the puns her mom's making, and when in
- 30:36Speaker 1: fact she's like, how can we make it better? And
- 30:38Speaker 1: I like seeing that relationship have growth and Lindsay having
- 30:42Speaker 1: a moment of coming into her own a little bit,
- 30:46Speaker 1: although the moment before that I did laugh out loud
- 30:49Speaker 1: when she's watching TV and she's like I can't with
- 30:51Speaker 1: this channel thing. And then Sabrina says something about Riz
- 30:56Speaker 1: and I just died. Oh my god, yeah, because we
- 31:01Speaker 1: I laughed really hard because we had literally the same
- 31:03Speaker 1: conversation in our house this weekend. Seen the word Riz,
- 31:07Speaker 1: and my daughter was like, stop that, stop it right now.
- 31:12Speaker 1: And of course he thought like really leaned into like
- 31:15Speaker 1: the dad joke and like kept doing it. I was like, Okay,
- 31:17Speaker 1: now it's not funny, but you know, I thought May
- 31:22Speaker 1: gave a great performance when she's tearing up over Jay
- 31:27Speaker 1: when she's having her moment in bed looking at those photos,
- 31:30Speaker 1: and she I was very convinced with her cry scene
- 31:34Speaker 1: and her deep breath through that moment. I so that's
- 31:38Speaker 1: funny that you mentioned that, because like I thought that
- 31:40Speaker 1: was good too. But then the whole deep breath thing,
- 31:42Speaker 1: I thought like she was putting her armor back up again,
- 31:45Speaker 1: like she oh yeah, any sort of like you know,
- 31:49Speaker 1: that's what she's had to do her entire life is
- 31:51Speaker 1: like not show emotion on things, so uh huh yeah,
- 31:55Speaker 1: I mean it just gives us a deeper side.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Of who May is.
- 31:59Speaker 1: And finely Nancy's Paula Poundstone reference as if that is
- 32:03Speaker 1: the most recent comedic performance she can pull from memory
- 32:07Speaker 1: made me laugh. Pollen Stone is a little controversial too.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Right, Oh is she?
- 32:13Speaker 1: I don't know, not there a whole bolence of it.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Paula Poundstone was found guilty of felony child in Endanger Men,
- 32:21Speaker 1: which with three counts of lute acts upon a child
- 32:24Speaker 1: younger than fourteen. Oh no, all right, Well not funny anymore. Yeah,
- 32:29Speaker 1: kind of weird that they that's I mean, it's like
- 32:34Speaker 1: almost putting like a diddy joke in like a Hallmark show, like, yes,
- 32:39Speaker 1: did somebody.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Do any due diligence here?
- 32:43Speaker 1: You know, if I mean things you learn on Girls
- 32:47Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark?
- 32:48Speaker 2: I know, do you have any more cluckworthy moments?
- 32:51Speaker 1: No?
- 32:51Speaker 2: That's it cool.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Who's your feathered friend of the week? It continues may
- 32:56Speaker 1: May from last week? I know, why is she the
- 32:59Speaker 1: best on this show? I? Well, no, but I was
- 33:04Speaker 1: thinking about it, and I know I asked you this before.
- 33:06Speaker 1: I was like, was she the main character in the book?
- 33:08Speaker 1: And you said no. But if you also look at
- 33:11Speaker 1: the image, the poster or whatever for Hallmark, she's like.
- 33:17Speaker 2: The center star. Oh you know what I mean?
- 33:21Speaker 1: Yeah, So I wonder if there is a direction to
- 33:27Speaker 1: make it more about yes, she's in front of Amanda
- 33:31Speaker 1: in that image.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 33:34Speaker 1: All right, y'all, there are two more episodes of Chicken Sisters.
