- 0:11Hello there. To which of course, the correct
- 0:14responses. General Kenobi, you are a bold
- 0:17one, but maybe that's a little bit too much.
- 0:19Star Wars and a Friday. Hello friends, it is indeed
- 0:23Friday. It is the 22nd of November.
- 0:27Great to have your company. Whether you are an Obi Wan fan
- 0:30or not, that makes no difference.
- 0:32Well, it does in many parts of life, but not right now.
- 0:34Because at this point in time, it is not how many MIDI
- 0:39Chlorians you have in your system that matters.
- 0:41It is the fact that you have set aside a moment to sit down, to
- 0:46stand up, to run, to sleep, to whatever it is that you're
- 0:48doing, to drive and spend a moment in God's Word.
- 0:52And as we do every Friday for the last 140 Fridays, yes,
- 0:58that's a lot of Fridays. We read a Psalm together, and
- 1:02this is a Psalm of David. This is a Psalm where David
- 1:06calls out asking God to come and to help him, and then
- 1:12brilliantly follows it up by asking God to transform him so
- 1:17that he can always be in the right frame as he approaches
- 1:20God, which is a pretty wonderful model for us.
- 1:23Hard David, so clever, so full of wisdom for us.
- 1:27So let us share this Psalm, a Psalm of David as we read
- 1:30together Psalm 141. Oh Lord, I'm calling to you,
- 1:46please hurry. Listen when I cry to you for
- 1:50help. Accept my prayer as incense
- 1:53offered to you and my up raised hands as an evening offering.
- 2:00Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips.
- 2:05Don't let me drift toward evil or take part in acts of
- 2:09wickedness. Don't let me share in the
- 2:12delicacies of those who do wrong.
- 2:15Let the godly strike me. It will be a kindness if they
- 2:19correct me. It is a soothing medicine.
- 2:23Don't let me refuse it. But I pray constantly against
- 2:27the wicked and their deeds. When their leaders are thrown
- 2:31down from a Cliff, the wicked will listen to my words and find
- 2:35them true. Like rocks brought up by a
- 2:38plough, the bones of the wicked will lie scattered without
- 2:42burial. I look to you for help.
- 2:46O sovereign Lord, you are my refuge.
- 2:50Don't let them kill me. Keep me from the traps they have
- 2:54set for me, from the snares of those who do wrong.
- 2:59Let the wicked fall into their own Nets, but let me escape
- 3:14our Father. You are indeed our refuge.
- 3:19You are the one who will save us.
- 3:21In fact, not just will save us, but you have saved us.
- 3:26You have given us Jesus. You have made us right with you,
- 3:32and the great cosmic challenge of the universe and our place in
- 3:35it has been set. We know who we are now.
- 3:40We are your children, loved and included in your fatherly
- 3:48embrace. Oh, what a gift that you would
- 3:52lavish that upon us. Thank you.
- 3:56Thank you for being our rock and our Redeemer.
- 4:00And as we find ourselves in difficult spaces in this life,
- 4:05our Lord continue to shape us that our first instinct as David
- 4:09would be to turn to you and to claim our identity as a loved,
- 4:16blessed child of yours, knowing that you hold our Wellness, you
- 4:22hold our eternity in the palm of your hand with great love and
- 4:27care. You are incredible and we love
- 4:30you and we worship you. And we pray all of this in the
- 4:33name of Jesus through whom all things are possible.
- 4:37Amen.
