- 0:00Hello and welcome to the Everyday Eurasia podcast,
- 0:03Inspiring Faith for Every Day. Each day we are on a journey
- 0:08with Jesus in our churches, our homes, our workplaces, and in so
- 0:13many different places around the world.
- 0:15Is it beautiful that no matter where we are, we can walk with
- 0:19him every single day? Jesus is the one who connects us
- 0:23all and stands at the very center of our lives day after
- 0:28day. Through this podcast, you'll
- 0:30hear voices from across the region sharing devotionals that
- 0:34reminds us of God's presence in our everyday moments.
- 0:43This week, we'll be journeying together with Chet Gibbons.
- 0:46Chet serves as the Nazarene Discipleship International
- 0:49coordinator for the Eurasia Region.
- 0:52As a missionary, he lives and serves alongside his wife
- 0:55Crystal from the regional office in Busina, Germany.
- 0:59Today, Chet will be thinking with us about the new year that
- 1:02is in front of us. Hello, everyone.
- 1:04Welcome back to our Covenant Renewal podcast that we are
- 1:07starting here at the beginning of 2026.
- 1:09If you haven't listened to yesterday's episode, I encourage
- 1:12you to go back and listen to that as we're going through John
- 1:15Wesley's Covenant Renewal service.
- 1:17And yesterday we fully committed ourselves, our souls, and our
- 1:23very salvation into the hands of our High Priest, Christ.
- 1:29We renounced any claim to our own righteousness and trusted in
- 1:34nothing of our own, but only what Christ has done for us.
- 1:40And now that we've prayed that prayer, what this means now is
- 1:45we need to give our entire selves to the Lord at the start
- 1:49of this new year. As His servants, we surrender
- 1:54the entire rule of our life to Christ.
- 1:57As the Bible says, don't offer the parts of your body as
- 2:00instruments of sin. Instead, offer yourselves to God
- 2:04as those brought from death to life, and offer your whole
- 2:09selves to Him as instruments of righteousness.
- 2:15Don't you know that you are a slave to whatever you obey?
- 2:20If you are God's servants, then obey God.
- 2:24Give yourselves so completely to the Lord that from now on you
- 2:28belong to Him alone and no one else.
- 2:32Let all of us say, along with the Psalmist, I am yours.
- 2:36O God, I honor you and I dedicate myself to your service.
- 2:44Giving ourselves to the Lord means we accept the work that He
- 2:47assigns to us, whatever it is, and He has many different kinds
- 2:51of service. Some of the things Jesus calls
- 2:53us to are easy and honorable, but some things are hard and
- 2:59humble. Some things that God wants us to
- 3:02do fit our preferences and our desires, while others go against
- 3:06them. Sometimes we're able to please
- 3:09Christ and please ourselves at the same time, like when He
- 3:13calls us to enjoy His good gifts.
- 3:14Who doesn't love that? There are some spiritual duties
- 3:18that are simply more pleasing than others.
- 3:20I think we can all agree rejoicing in the Lord, blessing
- 3:24God and praising His name are wonderful things.
- 3:29But other duties require us to deny ourselves, like bearing
- 3:35with the sins and the shortcomings of others,
- 3:38correcting others for their own good, leaving the company of
- 3:42friends when it becomes harmful to US, standing up against
- 3:45wrongdoing, or confessing Christ even when it brings us shame or
- 3:49ridicule, Cule or persecution. It's never fun to go against the
- 3:54grain, to surrender our rights, or to accept loss for Jesus
- 3:58sake, but these are some of the kinds of service that He calls
- 4:03us to. So each one of us needs to
- 4:07consider what Christ is asking of me and submit ourselves
- 4:13entirely to His will. Don't try to make terms or
- 4:17conditions with Jesus. He will allow no such
- 4:20bargaining. Friends, this kind of surrender
- 4:24to Christ is the very heart of Christianity.
- 4:28When you choose God as your portion and your joy, when you
- 4:32place all your hope in Christ, when you sincerely give yourself
- 4:36fully to Him, then you are truly a Christian.
- 4:42Christ saves none who refused to be His servants.
- 4:46He is the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.
- 4:51Christ receives no servant except by willing consent.
- 4:54His people are a willing people, and Christ accepts no partial
- 4:59consent, only a full surrender to all that He commands.
- 5:04He will be everything or He will be nothing.
- 5:09And so as Christians, as servants of Christ, let us
- 5:15approach him now in prayer. Lord Jesus, if you will receive
- 5:20me into your household, if you will accept me as your servant,
- 5:25I won't make any conditions. Ask of me whatever you choose.
- 5:30Write your own commands, require me to be or to do whatever you
- 5:35want. The only thing I ask is to let
- 5:38me be your servant. Make me whatever you want, Lord,
- 5:43and place me wherever you want. Let me be a vessel of gold or
- 5:48silver, or let me be a vessel of wood or stone, just as long as I
- 5:52may be a vessel for your glory and honor.
- 5:55Then I will be content. If I'm not the head or the eye
- 6:00or the ear, if I'm not one of the more noble or honored parts
- 6:05of the body of Christ, then let me be the hand or the foot.
- 6:09Let me be one of the least and the lowest, just as long as I am
- 6:13a servant of my Lord, because I am no longer my own, but yours.
- 6:20Put me to what you will place me, with whom you will put me to
- 6:25doing or put me to suffering. Let me be put to work for you,
- 6:32or let me be set aside for you. Let me be praised for you or
- 6:37criticized for you. Let me be full or let me be
- 6:41empty. Let me have all things, or let
- 6:45me have nothing. I freely and fully surrender all
- 6:50things to Your glory and Your service.
- 6:53And now, a wonderful and holy God, Creator, Redeemer and
- 6:58Sustainer, you are mine and I am yours.
- 7:03So be it. And the covenant which I have
- 7:07made on earth, that it also be ratified in heaven.
- 7:11Amen. Thank you for listening to the
