- 1:53Slim Incorporated. It's a political thriller set against the backdrop of the Idaho governor's
- 1:59race. So kind of combine knowledge of a couple different areas there and that
- 2:04is available with a donation of twenty dollars or more. And we've got some
- 2:07other options, quite a few other options. And we'll mention a few others
- 2:12after the show. All right, so what is our request going to be?
- 2:17And I'm going to read I've got an email from Nicola, who rides
- 2:23Adam. I discovered your podcast a few years ago when my mother in law
- 2:27won an iPod shuffle as a door prize at a dinner and gave it to
- 2:31me. I decided to try listening to podcast, as our entire family loved
- 2:37audiobooks. It did not take me long to be hooked. In addition to
- 2:40your Great Detectives podcast, I've subscribed to several others, and each week I
- 2:46complete household chores with my podcast as entertainment for my mundane activities. I listened
- 2:52when I'm on the bus to work at the grocery store and doing various other
- 2:55chores. Every Friday, I anxiously await the last episode of Yours Truly,
- 3:00Johnny Dollar, so that I can listen to the entire story. I am
- 3:05enjoying Gregory Hood and Nick Carter. This time. I heard you comment on
- 3:07the titles of the lineup and agree one hundred percent. I wanted to suggest
- 3:12that you consider an episode of Mister Keen Tracer of Lost person Not only do
- 3:17I enjoy this program, but since it is my husband's last name and has
- 3:23been for mine for almost twenty eight years, it is a particular interest to
- 3:28me. And she concludes with thank you for your great shows and informative commentary.
- 3:34God bless from Nicola Keen in Ontario, Canada. Well, that is
- 3:40definitely a letter that's hard to beat, and so we will honor your request
- 3:45with an episode of mister Keane's Racer of Lost Persons now, Mister Keen for
- 3:51those of us those listeners who've not heard of it before. Mister Keene was
- 3:55one of the longest running programs during the Golden Age of radio, and certainly
- 4:00the longest running detective show. The series ran for sixteen and a half years.
- 4:06That's more than four years longer than Carter. And considering that yours truly
- 4:13Johnny Dollar was off the air for a whole season, it's also four more
- 4:18years than Johnny Dollar. So this was an enduring program and probably the only
- 4:25program that came close to it in terms of longevity was The Adventures of Sherlock
- 4:30Holmes, I should say the New Adventures, which first began running in nineteen
- 4:35thirty but had several periods of being off the air in both the late thirties
- 4:42and the early forties. There were a total of one thousand, six hundred
- 4:46and ninety broadcast of Mister Keane's Racer of Lost Persons. There was a serialized
- 4:55era, so that helped with the episode count, but less than sixty s
- 5:00survived to this day, and some of those are partials. The series was
- 5:03produced by Franken and Hummer. They were best known for their soap operas things
- 5:11like Honeymoon Hill, Backstage Wife mau Perkins, and in many ways, mister
- 5:17King carried over some of those soperotic elements in storytelling in terms of some melodrama
- 5:26and some dialogue. Well, the series isn't perfect. I definitely enjoy it,
- 5:31and I appreciate what it took for a series to make it that long.
- 5:38Well, here's an episode of Mister Keen from June the ninth of nineteen
- 5:43forty nine. The title is The Case of Murder and the Star of Death.
- 5:49It's time now for Mister Keen, Tracer of Lost person radieson Tablemen,
- 6:08Anison and Colonos present Mister Keen, Tracer of foss Persons, one of the
- 6:13most famous characters of American fiction. In one of radio's most thrilling dramas Tonight
- 6:18at Every Thursday at the same time, the famous old investigator takes from his
- 6:23file and brings to us one of his most celebrated missing person's cases. Tonight's
- 6:28case is entitled The Case of Murder and the Star of Death. Anison is
- 6:42like a doctor's prescription. That is, it contains not just one, but
- 6:46a combination of medically proven active ingredients. That's why anison gives such incredibly fast,
- 6:50effective relief from headache. New writers on ral Japain. Many people have
- 6:56been introduced to Amason tablets by their own positions or dentists. If you haven't
- 7:00tried anison, then you may be surprised to see how incredibly fast it brings
- 7:04relief from neurotic neuritus or headache pains. For most effective relief, you as
- 7:10only as directed, ask for anison at any drug store. Now for mister
- 7:23Keene and the case of Murder, I'm the star of Death. Our scene
- 7:28opens in a large and fashionable home in a New York suburb. A dinner
- 7:31party has been in progress, but now the three guests of gathers in the
- 7:35library, where the host, Mark Adams, observes with some amusement that they're
- 7:40all looking forward to a surprise. He's been hinting about a surprise he is
- 7:44soon to reveal to his regret. Oh yes, yes, sah, what
- 7:51is this remarkable surprise you had for us? What's the big secrets? You've
- 7:56got something up your sleeve, old man, Oh, no doubt about it.
- 8:00I have, Paul. As a matter of fact, that's why I
- 8:03invited you all to dinner this evening. And please don't keep us into stead.
- 8:05I shan't eat this, my dear, But first I'll tell you to
- 8:09my little exhibit. The right. You're a conoisseur pressure stones. Tell me
- 8:13what's your favorite stone? Well, Mark, I suppose most women would prefer
- 8:16a diamond. I'm partial to sapphires, big ones. Study you getting it?
- 8:22Mark, Paul, you're as well known a collector of pressure stones as
- 8:24I am. What would you say was the greatest sapphire in existence? The
- 8:28star of death? Of course, start of death, but a dreadful name.
- 8:33Would you like to see it? You mean you have the star of
- 8:35death here in this box on this table. What I sold over three quarters
- 8:41of my own collection of joels to buy the sapphire from the Hancock of State.
- 8:43But it was worth see for yourself there. Oh, it's beautiful.
- 8:52Mark. When I said I had a tweet in store for you, I
- 8:54meant it. I What happened to the life with the lights on? Somebody?
- 9:01Wait, I'll find the switch here it is. Oh, someone must
- 9:07have accidentally brushed against the wall switch and turned the lights off. The sapphire
- 9:13it's gone. The scar of death is gone. Ay, well I can
- 9:18go along with a joke. Well, the one who took the stone please
- 9:20replace it in the box on the table. Look here. A practical joke
- 9:26is one thing, but that sapphire is worth a portrait. Mark. Just
- 9:28a moment someone in this room is evidently a fool or a thief, but
- 9:33I'll give him or her a chance to save face. I'm going to put
- 9:37the lights out once again, and when I turn them back on, I'll
- 9:39expect to see that sapphire replaced inside this box with no questions asked. Otherwise,
- 9:46I'm calling the police. You'll have just five seconds. I turn out
- 9:48the lights. Here goes remember five, Let me have that light switch mark.
- 10:01He's on the phone. He's dead. My father had been stabbed to
- 10:18death with a letter open to mister King, taken from the desk. He
- 10:24was noted for that sapphire at the star of death. I read about the
- 10:28case this morning, Kay, in the newspapers. My partner Might Chancy brought
- 10:31it to my attention, sure that it was one of the strangest cases in
- 10:35years. All three suspects were arrested, Boss, but the police don't know
- 10:39which one murdered. Miss Adams installed that sapphire. Where were you at the
- 10:41time of the tread? Did the Kay away for the weekend at the friend's
- 10:45house? Who's dead and only taken high advice? I thanked it not the
- 10:50test, but why were you against his buying it? Kay? You've heard
- 10:54about the stone. I'm sure, mister King. Its history is horrible.
- 10:58That's how it got its name, that star of death. Three people died
- 11:03while it was in their possession, all violently. Father was the POSI tell
- 11:09me something about your father's guests. Who was present that night? That was
- 11:13Edith, Edith Sims. I thought it was very fond of her. I
- 11:18even think there was a possibility who might have married her. He'd been very
- 11:22lonely since mother died two years ago, and the other guests all deadly.
- 11:28Is a dual important like father was. They were close friends. And missus
- 11:33Loretta Reynet is a well known social life a widow. She's very rich,
- 11:37mister Kean, and she'd never have any recent to steal. And that was
- 11:41all, yes, mister Keane. The servants had all left for the night.
- 11:46No one else was there but father and its three kids. The jewel
- 11:52apparently is never found on any of them. All three persons swear they're innocent.
- 12:00It's hard to me to believe than any one of them could have done
- 12:03anything like that. How does it strike you, Mike Well, it's a
- 12:05puzzler. Mister Keny Shore, what happened to the sapphire. It couldn't have
- 12:09just disappeared, no, Mike. And yet I'm sure all three suspects were
- 12:13thoroughly searched by the police, mister King. Couldn't it have been someone else,
- 12:18a thief who sneaked into the house. It's possible, Kay, but
- 12:22I doubt it. By the way, who described the details of the murder
- 12:26to the police. All three of father's guests and their stories were identical in
- 12:31every detail. Will you help me, mister Key. I have faith in
- 12:35the police, naturally, but this case is so mysterious. You're the most
- 12:41famous investigator in the country, and if you could work with the police,
- 12:45I'll try my best, Key, and I'll also try to recover the stolen
- 12:48sapphire at which your father was murdered. Oh, thank you. I suggest
- 12:52to go home now wait for my call. I'll want to look the house
- 12:54over. But before I do that, I think I've got an idea.
- 12:58What is it? It's rather unusual, but if Lieutenant Hale of the homicide
- 13:03squad is willing to cooperate with me, maybe Mark Adams killer will pay far
- 13:07more for that sapphire than he have a bargained for. But what you're suggesting,
- 13:22mister Keen, dain't I know that Lieutenant Hale, one of your three
- 13:26prisoners is a killer. But I doubt if you'll ever find out which one
- 13:30is guilty unless you release all three. But what good will that do?
- 13:33That sapphire the star of death hasn't been found yet, has it, no,
- 13:37Miss Keen, then it must be hidden somewhere. Obviously very well,
- 13:41your police officers were with the three suspects from the time they left the Adams
- 13:46house. Isn't that right? In other words, the sapphire is still inside
- 13:50the house exactly, But we've searched the place thoroughly, mister Kean. The
- 13:54murder wouldn't have been foolish enough to stab Mark Adams to death if he or
- 13:58she didn't have an excellent hiding place. Father saphi Am, And how will
- 14:03we get the strong We'll let the killer find it for us and expose himself
- 14:07at the same time. That's quite a good idea. It works. You
- 14:11can have the three suspects trailed by your plain clothesman, but I prefer you
- 14:15wouldn't. Any slip up would make the killer suspicious and spoil my plans.
- 14:20All right, I'll go along with you, mister Keane. On one condition.
- 14:24What's that, Lieutenant, I'm going to station the man at all the
- 14:26airports and a railway terminals. I don't want my pigeon to fly the coup.
- 14:31I'm sure your pigeon will stay right here, Lieutenant, until he has
- 14:35his hands on that sapphire at the start of death, and when he reaches
- 14:39for it again, we'll have our hands on him. This is the library,
- 14:54mister Kean, my father was murdered. All right, kay, we'll
- 14:58examine it thoroughly for any trace of the missing satire. Well, I'll grow
- 15:01up with a fine tooth called mister Keenhod Mike. I suppose that heavy desk
- 15:05has been gone through King at least a thousand times. The police looked under
- 15:11the carpets and opened up the upholstery in the chairs. There isn't a spot
- 15:15in this room that hasn't been searched. Isn't that the door? Then?
- 15:18Yes, excuse me, mister Kean night, yes, boss, never mind
- 15:22the search. After what k has just told me, I'm sure we'll have
- 15:26to wait for some kind of a break, and we may be getting one
- 15:30right now. House. I've been expecting the murder to make some excuse to
- 15:33return to this house for the stone. Let's see who's at the door,
- 15:39mister King. This is Paul Dusney. How do you do, mister Dudney,
- 15:43mister Keane, this is a great pleasure, sir. I'm very glad
- 15:46to know you. My partner might plancy. How do you do? Please
- 15:50do let you mister Keene. Lieutenant Hale at the police headquarters told me you
- 15:52were responsible for my release. I thought you'd be here with Kay Adams,
- 15:58and I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your confidence
- 16:02in me. Ye, it's quite all right. The murder was a shocking
- 16:04thing, and Mark Adams was my friend. But I trust the police.
- 16:08I realized who the guilty woman is. Oh, you believe they had the
- 16:11killer. Actually, that's the only reason they let me go, isn't it?
- 16:15And who do you think she is, mister Dudley? Why eat it?
- 16:18Sims? Of course? Oh no, Sims. It's a horrible thing
- 16:22to say. I know, okay, but I know more about Edith and
- 16:26your father than you do. Just what do you know, mister Dudley.
- 16:29I know Edith was poor, mister Keane, and she wanted to marry Mark.
- 16:32I also know heat made up is mine not to marry again because of
- 16:34his daughter. Okay, I see sounds like Marc coumpany, Boss. Yes,
- 16:40you stay here with mister Dudley. Mike. I'll go to the door
- 16:44with Kay. This way, mister Keane. Is it true, mister Keane,
- 16:49that Edith Sims is being held by the police for father? Isn't it?
- 16:52Okay, No one's being held at the moment, they don't, Edith?
- 17:00Are you all right? I know how you must feel me when your
- 17:03father died. Everything I lived for went out of the world. This is
- 17:07mister Kean, Edith, Mister Keith, he's investigating father's death. May I
- 17:12ask what brought you here, Miss Simms? I came to comfort Kay,
- 17:17mister Kean, and I want to stay a few days, Darling here with
- 17:19you. We can console Ea till he perhaps just a little. Of course
- 17:22he did. That woman isn't here? Is she? What? Woman?
- 17:26Miss Simms? Way? Oh? No? No? She? Oh?
- 17:30Thank goodness? Why are you so relieved? Miss Simms? Oh? Did
- 17:33I sound relieved? I didn't mean either to tell mister Kean everything. You
- 17:38know. He's here to help me. Well, I have no right to
- 17:42say this, mister Kean, But then I have no right to hold it
- 17:45back. I overheard Loretta Wayne and quarrel with Mark Adams on the night he
- 17:49was murdered. Yes, they were in the study just before dinner. Loretta
- 17:55told him she'd learned that he wanted to marry me, and she said he
- 17:57was out of his mind. They must have been close friends, and I
- 18:00thought the rather despised me. I know it, but I didn't care.
- 18:03It was what she said to Mark her and what was that? She said?
- 18:10A man would be better off dead than married to a fortune hunter like
- 18:12me. Mark became angry and she apologized. Mister key, Miss Simms,
- 18:18would you wait inside for me? Please? Here's my partner. Mike can't
- 18:22see. I want to have a word with him in practice. Come with
- 18:23me, Oh boss, we said, preserves a lother customer, Yes,
- 18:30Mike, and I believe this one will be the last. The third and
- 18:33last guest at the dinner party where Mark Adams was murdered, and the Fabulous
- 18:37Satire told them I opened the door. You are missus Loretto Waynard. Yes,
- 18:45is Keay Adams here? I came to pay my respect and have a
- 18:48read it. Please come in. My name is Keane, Missus Lennan,
- 18:52mister Key, the famous investigator. Wow, this is a lucky coincidence.
- 18:57I'd heard you were in this getting Mark Adams murder, and I was coming
- 19:02to see you. Why because I know who murdered Mark. I realized that
- 19:08after I left police headquarters. I remember the remark at dinner the night Mark
- 19:14was murdered. Paul Dudley said it, mister Keane, and I remember his
- 19:18exact words. What were they, Missus Wyna. He said he give anything
- 19:22for possession of that sapphire, mister hor of death, and that it was
- 19:26a due any man would murder for. Did Paul Dudley know mister Adams had
- 19:30it in his possession at the time. Well, I couldn't say, mister
- 19:33Kean. But I'm telling you the truth, and it is. Simms is
- 19:37my witness. Very well, we'll give you a chance to prove it.
- 19:41Now. Miss Simms is inside along with mister Dudley. Will you join them,
- 19:45Missus Rayman, certainly, I'm quite willing to make that statement to Paul's
- 19:51base. Well, Mike, sure, we've got a fine jigsaw puzzle on
- 19:56our hands. Boss. Each one accuses another, and there's these are all
- 20:00equally strong. The thing to do now is to find out who's lying,
- 20:03Mike, and put our hands on that tidleus sapphire. And when we do,
- 20:08the style of death can claim another victim. When the killer gets the
- 20:11electric chair for murder. Just the moment we're returned to mister Keane and the
- 20:26case of Murder and the Star of Death. Meanwhile, here's a marvelous new
- 20:32scientific discovery that actually helps prevent cavities in your teeth. Yes, actually helps
- 20:37prevent cavities. It's colonos anti decay toothpowder with ammonium iron, greatest devil discovery
- 20:44since the invention of the toothbrush. Discovered by a great Midwestern university. The
- 20:48scientific ingredient reduces the Lactobacilli bacteria in the mouth to help with that harmful tooth
- 20:55decay. New Colonos is the first world famous Jennifers to offer for ammonium iron
- 21:00and retain its pleasant, many flavor and popular price. Neither this new colon
- 21:04ose powder, nor any other ammonium iron dbtifice is a cure all but your
- 21:10dentist will tell you that in most cases, new colonos correctly used reduces tooth
- 21:15decay, reduces the number of cavities. Think what that means to you and
- 21:18your children. Fewer feelings, less pain, less trouble. Above all,
- 21:23healthier teeth and healthier teeth mean a cleaner mouth, more pleasing breath, wonderful.
- 21:29New colonos is dentist recommended, dentist approved. So do as your dentist
- 21:33tells you. For brighter teeth, sweeter breath, yes, and for fewer
- 21:37cavities, get new colon nose anti decay toothpowder. Now back to mister Kean
- 21:45and the Case of Murder and the Star of Death. The murder of Mark
- 21:51Adams, the prominent jewel merchant, brings mister Kean, the Great Investigator,
- 21:55and his partner Mike Clancy, on the trail of one of the cleverest jewel
- 21:59teeths in the country. But Mark Adams was murdered for the Star of Death,
- 22:03a fabulous sapphire that mister Keane believes has been hidden inside the Adams home
- 22:07by the killer. Now the three people who were with the victim at the
- 22:11time of his death are in the house, along with Kay Adams, the
- 22:15victim's daughter, and as mister Kean and Mike gather them together in the room
- 22:18where Adams was murdered, we seem to have reached an impasse in the mystery
- 22:23of Mark Adam's death. Ladies and gentlemen, all three of you are under
- 22:27suspicion of murder. A moment, mister Dudley, we mister Kean, you
- 22:33told me a few moments ago that, in your opinion, Edith Simms committed
- 22:37the crime. Oh how could you say such a thing of new loved him?
- 22:41He doesn't he some aria that isn't true. Mister Dudley is also among
- 22:44the accused. You mean someone says that I'm the murderer. The right of
- 22:48Wayner, why is mister Dudley? The boss wants me to keep this conversation
- 22:52on a friendly level, so to speak. And lastly, Missus Waynet joins
- 22:56the list of suspect who could have blamed me for it. Mister Key,
- 23:00I did, Missus Wayne, it is you. I overheard what you said
- 23:04to Mark. You told him he'd be better off dead than married to me.
- 23:07You loved him doing you were curious because you loved me. Oh dare
- 23:11you say that, mister Key? She stuck her head against the floor,
- 23:17but she's unconscious. You carry her inside, mister Dudley. I'll call it
- 23:19uctor. No, I'll be all right. I don't need it, duck.
- 23:25She's coming around better see that she rests for a few minutes. Anyway,
- 23:29here, let me help you, missus Wayne. In quite of what
- 23:30you said about me, I'm not angry with you. Help her in here,
- 23:33Paul. All right, Kate, there's a studio couch in his room,
- 23:38Nike. I just noticed something, what was it? Boss? Just
- 23:42before missus Wayne tripped, I saw Paul Dudley bending over the desk looking at
- 23:47something. But there's nothing on the desk but a blotter and a pen.
- 23:51Mister Key, Wait, don't think jamine it now. I think someone's coming.
- 23:53Okay. Adam says there was some water out here, and I thought
- 23:56missus wayner. Oh, here's the picture on the table. How's she feeling,
- 24:00mister Dudley A little better? Oh, by the way, miss Keene,
- 24:03I'm remaining here in the Adams home the night. I live upstate and
- 24:07the next train is very late. Hey, Adams has offered me a room.
- 24:10I see, excuse me, that's two of them. Boss. Miss
- 24:15Simms made an excuse to stay here, and so is Paul Dudley. I'm
- 24:18also quite sure that Loretta Wayne will be too ill to go home this evening.
- 24:22That makes three suspects all trying to stay here in the house where that
- 24:26sapphire is hidden. Come over to this desk again, Matt, I want
- 24:30to see what interested mister Dudley a moment ago. It's a very fancy desk,
- 24:34sir. Look at the leather Coverrent. It's getting place by nail studs,
- 24:40and one of those studs seems to be loose. Yes, this is
- 24:45the one Paul Dudley was, mister Keane. When you touch that nail head,
- 24:48a secret panel opened in the side of the desk, Look, yes,
- 24:53and look what it contains, Mike Saith perservs it's the sapphire, the
- 24:57star of Death, the most magnificent jewel I've ever seen. Will take possession
- 25:03of it for the time being, Mike, and close this secret panel again.
- 25:07Don't say a word about this to any of them as far as they
- 25:11are concerned. The saphire is still missing, sure, and one of them
- 25:15is going to get a surprise. Boss. That's what I'm counting on.
- 25:18That secret panel in The desk is an ingenious contraption. It must have been
- 25:22specially made for someone. W do you think Mark Adams has made mister King.
- 25:26No, if he'd known about that secret panel, he'd have looked there
- 25:29the moment the jewel was missing. Then who could have known the desk's original
- 25:33owner. Mister Adams probably brought it from someone else and his daughter kaid No
- 25:38supossibly, but I don't want to ask her in front of the others.
- 25:42I'll wait for an opportune time. Are we staying here for the night?
- 25:47Everyone else seems to be. We may as well joined them. Well,
- 25:49what's the next movement? Kid? We found the star of death, Mike,
- 25:53but we still have to find our killer, Thanky. I think I
- 25:57can almost do that now, But let's wait for overwhelming proof. And I
- 26:03wouldn't be surprised if we obtained that proof tonight, mister Key, not so
- 26:22loud, kay? I hope I didn't waken you. No, No,
- 26:25I've been trying to read. Are the others asleep? Apparently all but Might
- 26:29Clancy and myself. He's in the library waiting for me. What is it
- 26:33you want, mister Keing. I didn't get a chance to talk to you
- 26:34alone, Otherwise I'd have asked to this before. Where did the furniture in
- 26:38this house come from? Did your father buy it himself? No? It
- 26:41came with the house when we brought it. How long ago was that?
- 26:45Two years, mister King? And who sold it to you? Father never
- 26:48told me. I was in school in Switzerland at the time. Where's the
- 26:52deed to the house? I don't give the person's name. Why the deed
- 26:56must be in father's safe And where's there in father's study? Do you aut
- 27:00the combination? Mister Key? If you know it? Kay, I do
- 27:04left? One, right, six, left, four right now? I
- 27:11just jumped that down. All right, Kay? What are you going to
- 27:17do, mister King? I'm going to put my hands on your father's murderer,
- 27:32mister King. Yes, Mike, put the lights on here in the
- 27:34study. Did you get what you were after? Boss? I have it
- 27:37right here, the deed to the house of the seller's name on it.
- 27:41Everything seems to have worked out according to my suspicions, Mike. But there's
- 27:45one more thing we have to do. What's that? It's going to throw
- 27:48a scare into a few innocent people, but it's the only way to get
- 27:52final proof. You go upstairs, Mike, knock on every bedroom door and
- 27:56spread an alarm that the house is on fire. Boss. Are you joking?
- 28:00Oh, Mike, I'm serious. Don't be hinted as if anyone's life
- 28:03is in danger at the moment. Just say the fires in the cellar and
- 28:07they have plenty of time to leave. Then tell them that the fire has
- 28:11burned the telephone wise and that I've left to get the fire department. And
- 28:15where will you really be, mister Keane, I'll be in the library waiting
- 28:18for the killer to recover that sapphire the star of death. You'll take it
- 28:33easy for wanting to get alarmed about mister King's called off the fire department.
- 28:38All right, though, I'll put the lights on, missus Waynard, so
- 28:51you can see that secret panel a little better. Mister k I was expecting
- 28:56you to drop by for the sapphire. No, no, I see you've
- 29:00got a gun. You planned this. There isn't any fire. You'll sitch
- 29:06me Kane. I began to suspect you this afternoon, Missus Reynad, when
- 29:10you tripped and fell at the psychological moment while you were shouting at Edith Sims.
- 29:15You saw that Paul Dudley was interested in the desk. He noticed that
- 29:19loose nail head by accident, the one which opened the secret panel, and
- 29:23you distracted his attention and mind by falling suddenly and pretending to be hurt.
- 29:27So I did, mister Kean. Secondly, I found this deed. You
- 29:33were the one who sold this house and all the furniture in it to Mark
- 29:36Adams, so naturally you must be the one who knew about the secret panel
- 29:40in that desk. When you murdered Adams, you knew you would be searched
- 29:44for the sapphire you stole, so you hid it there. I sold Mark
- 29:48Adams this house because I lost my money, mister Keane, and I'm the
- 29:51kind of a woman who needs lots of it to live. He paid you
- 29:53quite a sum for this house, according to the deed, one hundred and
- 29:56fifty thousand dollars. But I'm used to having millions, mister Keane, who
- 30:00must be quite a gambler to get rid of it. So first, yes,
- 30:04I love to gamble on anything, a roulette wheel, a race horse,
- 30:08of a turn of a card. I also like to live the way
- 30:11a woman of breeding is accustomed to live. That's why I wanted that sapphire.
- 30:17No woman of bleeding Eye ever knew was a cold blooded murderer, missus
- 30:19Rena. The star of Death isn't inside that secret panel, mister Keane.
- 30:26I know it isn't, which means you have it. Turn it over to
- 30:30me. I'm not playing games now, Keene. You'll either turn that sapphire
- 30:36over to me or you'll get a bullet in your head. How would you
- 30:38get rid of the sapphire? A stone that side not stalling for time?
- 30:44I want that sapphire, now, do you. I'll count to three if
- 30:51you don't place it on top of that desk, I or kill you one
- 30:56tall before you put a bullet in my wrist. Look you didn't get one
- 31:03in your heart. For a moment, Mike, I thought you wouldn't return
- 31:06in time. I wouldn't have missed you if I'd had a chance. I
- 31:08know that. Yes, Boss put in a call to Lieutenant Hale at Police
- 31:14Headquarter. It's okay, mister Keane, telling we've managed to repay his patients
- 31:17and cooperation by solving this case. Say we found the star of death and
- 31:22the woman who murdered for it, and he can have them both at his
- 31:25convenience and saw mister Keane find the solution to the case of Murder and the
- 31:40Star of Death. The next time you're suffering from the pains of headache,

- 32:53dialogue by Lawrence Klee. It is on the air every Thursday at this
- 32:58time. We thank William more Heed tonight as mister Kean bay Benicilpek, who
- 33:04was taking a shot vacation on Doctor's honor dog Miss mister Kean. Next Thursday,
- 33:07when the Kind of the Old Tracer turned to the African Blogan murder case,
- 33:23Welcome Back. An interesting episode. I had to chuckle a little bit
- 33:29at the killer saying I wouldn't have missed given that they were standing in the
- 33:34same room and that she was probably two or three yards away. I think
- 33:38it's safe to say nobody would have missed if they had actually fired without their
- 33:44armbean jiggled or something of that sort. And mister Keane may have gone overboard
- 33:47and trying to prove this one, because I think he would have been okay
- 33:52with the deed and the inference from the desk without having to go all up
- 33:55purloined letter in this case. But overall, a pretty a pretty good episode
- 34:01and just a classic setup with everyone pointing the finger at everyone else. And
- 34:07we will eventually get around to this series. I'm kind of working through the
- 34:12Hummered and hummer Esque series in order of size. So the next one will
