- 0:02Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome.
- 0:04Speaker 1: It's time now for one on one with the pro,
- 0:06Speaker 1: but it's looking more like two on one today, but
- 0:08Speaker 1: that's okay, more information the better. We have our friends
- 0:11Speaker 1: from Trudy Credit Union, and we have Amanda and we
- 0:14Speaker 1: have Ferrol in with us today.
- 0:15Speaker 2: How are we doing today, ladies? Good? No, I'm already
- 0:19Speaker 2: nervous because every time we talk fraud, whoa, the antennas
- 0:24Speaker 2: go up, and my goodness sakes, it is something that's
- 0:29Speaker 2: quite prevalent. How prevalent? Is it?
- 0:31Speaker 3: Very very prevalent this day and age, especially with AI
- 0:35Speaker 3: kind of kicking in, it's making it easier and easier
- 0:38Speaker 3: for fraudsters.
- 0:40Speaker 2: That's that's not necessarily how I want to start off
- 0:43Speaker 2: my new year, but I understand it's best to be prepared.
- 0:47Speaker 2: You got to know and if you and if you
- 0:49Speaker 2: don't know, you're living in a fool's paradise. Yes, So
- 0:52Speaker 2: what are some things that we can do to prevent fraud?
- 0:57Speaker 3: The number one thing we always say is be diligent
- 0:59Speaker 3: on checking your statements and checking your digital banking and
- 1:04Speaker 3: also never give out that two factor code that is
- 1:06Speaker 3: sent to.
- 1:07Speaker 2: You as well you know something, that digital banking is
- 1:12Speaker 2: pretty sweet because you can catch things boom, Yes, the
- 1:16Speaker 2: instant that it happened. Now, this has happened to me,
- 1:19Speaker 2: so I'm imagining it's happened to probably at least fifty
- 1:22Speaker 2: percent of the people in the world. Either you have
- 1:25Speaker 2: or you haven't. And if you haven't, be thankful. If
- 1:27Speaker 2: you have, you're going, oh gosh, you know what that's like.
- 1:31Speaker 2: But yeah, it is. It is crazy. But like you said,
- 1:35Speaker 2: check the digital quickly. It's getting so bad now that
- 1:39Speaker 2: with the AI and everything, they can even start messing
- 1:43Speaker 2: around with your paper checks, can't they. It's hard. I've
- 1:48Speaker 2: seen it done.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Yeah they can.
- 1:51Speaker 3: They're good at altering and selling stories to make you believe.
- 1:56Speaker 2: But yeah, now when it comes to credit cards, how
- 2:01Speaker 2: are we looking on that? How do how do we cindit?
- 2:04Speaker 4: Gard credit cards are obviously a great tool for our
- 2:08Speaker 4: members to use. They do provide a little additional security
- 2:12Speaker 4: as well, you know, and that it's not hitting your
- 2:14Speaker 4: bank account directly, so if you do happen to have fraud,
- 2:18Speaker 4: you know, it gives you that a little bit of
- 2:20Speaker 4: buffer as well. But our credit cards in general are
- 2:24Speaker 4: a great competitive tool for our members to use. So
- 2:28Speaker 4: new cardholders are going to get zero percent introductory rate
- 2:31Speaker 4: for twelve months, and then we also currently through the
- 2:37Speaker 4: first quarter, we are running a balance transfer. Sometimes you'll
- 2:41Speaker 4: hear it called a cash advance promotion where our existing
- 2:44Speaker 4: cardholders who have a rate or signature rewards card will
- 2:47Speaker 4: get zero percent for twelve months doing a balanced transfer
- 2:51Speaker 4: a cash advance. So if you're trying to consolidate debt,
- 2:55Speaker 4: that's a great option. Zero percent for twelve months is
- 2:57Speaker 4: hard to come by nowadays. Very or you know, if
- 3:00Speaker 4: you're like me and you just found out you have
- 3:03Speaker 4: to have some home improvements unexpectedly, great opportunity to take
- 3:06Speaker 4: advantage of that.
- 3:06Speaker 2: You know, I think this weekend, folks might just find
- 3:09Speaker 2: out they have some home improvements that they just I
- 3:12Speaker 2: didn't see this coming until the blizzard of twenty six,
- 3:15Speaker 2: But my goodness, sakes that zero percent, that's a that's
- 3:19Speaker 2: a good wow. Yeah, I haven't seen that in a
- 3:22Speaker 2: long time.
- 3:22Speaker 4: It's just say, yeah, no, we try to run it,
- 3:25Speaker 4: you know, at least every year, if not every couple
- 3:28Speaker 4: of years, because we understand that, you know, the economy
- 3:30Speaker 4: is hard. Sometimes budgeting only goes so far and so
- 3:35Speaker 4: offering that to our members. You know, even after the
- 3:37Speaker 4: twelve months are we have cards as low as twelve
- 3:40Speaker 4: point nine to nine percent apy, So extremely competitive rates
- 3:45Speaker 4: even after that introductory or promotional period might end.
- 3:48Speaker 2: That's good because you know every time, it seems like
- 3:51Speaker 2: every Thursday, I get a slew of credit card offers
- 3:56Speaker 2: and they're anywhere from sixteen to four eight too, I
- 4:01Speaker 2: don't know, two and ten percent interest only, who are
- 4:05Speaker 2: you talking to? Smooth? You know, I just throw those
- 4:08Speaker 2: things away. But you know, twelve nine nine, that's great. Wow,
- 4:13Speaker 2: And so we got that going for us here. Now.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Savings has always been something we've been taught what you're
- 4:20Speaker 2: supposed to do. Save it for a rainy day, save
- 4:23Speaker 2: for something special, or save it in case of an emergency.
- 4:27Speaker 2: A lot of times both. But folks who don't do that,
- 4:31Speaker 2: like the youth too. Yeah, but you're making it worth
- 4:34Speaker 2: it while now.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean our rates are extremely competitive. So again,
- 4:38Speaker 4: if you're looking, and the nice thing is in the
- 4:41Speaker 4: in our world at the credit union, you don't have
- 4:44Speaker 4: to come to the table with five hundred or one
- 4:46Speaker 4: thousand dollars. So we have what's called the name that
- 4:49Speaker 4: Save It. You can start with a zero balance, and
- 4:51Speaker 4: so I've got an eighteen year old and I'm like,
- 4:54Speaker 4: put twenty dollars from every paycheck or whatever is affordable
- 4:57Speaker 4: to you, and you'd be quick surprised how quickly you
- 5:00Speaker 4: build up that savings. So when we think of savings,
- 5:03Speaker 4: we think, oh, I already have to have money saved
- 5:05Speaker 4: to do that, But that's not the case. So you
- 5:07Speaker 4: can start at zero and we make it easy for
- 5:10Speaker 4: you to work your way up there.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Mighty nice. You have to worry about things getting stolen
- 5:15Speaker 2: in your house. You got the safety of your credit
- 5:18Speaker 2: union to guard your nest egg before you're here.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Yeah, and then you know, taxes and bonuses, those are
- 5:24Speaker 4: good opportunities that if you do kind of have some
- 5:26Speaker 4: money that you weren't planning on, you know, that's a
- 5:28Speaker 4: good way to get started as well.
- 5:30Speaker 2: It is a first impulse would be let's go on
- 5:32Speaker 2: on vacation. Wait a minute here, you know we got
- 5:37Speaker 2: three kids in a house. What are you think in here?
- 5:40Speaker 2: So anyway, I tell us a little bit about the
- 5:43Speaker 2: certificates of Is this a certificates of deposit we're talking
- 5:47Speaker 2: about here with the competitive rates? Yes, it's been a
- 5:50Speaker 2: while since I've seen those, but they're starting to come
- 5:52Speaker 2: back in vogue.
- 5:54Speaker 4: They are. Yeah, So again, the certificates are just something
- 5:58Speaker 4: that are another they're good tools. So once you get
- 6:01Speaker 4: that minimum of five hundred saved up, you can transfer
- 6:03Speaker 4: it into a certificate and earn a higher yield than
- 6:07Speaker 4: what you're getting on your acts, your savings. That gives
- 6:10Speaker 4: you a little more cash access. And again it's only
- 6:14Speaker 4: a minimum of five hundred dollars to open, and we
- 6:16Speaker 4: have terms as low as five months, so you're not
- 6:18Speaker 4: locking yourself into a long term. You can do lower terms.
- 6:22Speaker 4: So if you say, hey, you know, I've got money
- 6:25Speaker 4: that I'm getting from my bonus now and I actually
- 6:28Speaker 4: want to use that today for Christmas, put it in
- 6:30Speaker 4: a CD or certificate, earn a little extra and use
- 6:32Speaker 4: it in a short term or you can go up
- 6:35Speaker 4: as long as five years.
- 6:36Speaker 2: It kind of helps you with your financial discipline, doesn't it.
- 6:40Speaker 2: My goodness, there are some folks that boy dollar got
- 6:43Speaker 2: to spend it, because let's try to save it a
- 6:47Speaker 2: little bit. You will need it now. When we talk
- 6:51Speaker 2: about credit cards in kits, sometimes that works. Sometimes it's necessary.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Tell us a little bit about the green light debit cards.
- 7:03Speaker 3: So the green Light debit card is free for any
- 7:06Speaker 3: of our Truity members. It does come with like oh sorry,
- 7:11Speaker 3: financial educational services for children.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Nice.
- 7:13Speaker 3: I mean I even have one for my own son
- 7:15Speaker 3: who's thirteen. It really encourages him to do.
- 7:18Speaker 2: You have kids here and I'm sitting there not buying this.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I thenk you're making it up, but go ahead.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Really encourages him to do things around the house. Yeah,
- 7:24Speaker 3: to save his money. And then he can also see
- 7:26Speaker 3: where it's spent. You can put it into a specific
- 7:31Speaker 3: like it can be spent or it needs to be saved,
- 7:34Speaker 3: things like that.
- 7:35Speaker 2: And I understand that Trudy's been working with some what
- 7:38Speaker 2: high school juniors. It just kind of kicked off here. Yeah,
- 7:41Speaker 2: a little financial schooling. Yes the way is it like
- 7:45Speaker 2: financial literacy or something like that, or just kind of
- 7:48Speaker 2: a waiting work your way around the navigating the banking things.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Yeah, and just kind of gives them a little bit
- 7:55Speaker 3: of education and a jump start on how that looks.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Oh good, yeah good. You know all I got was
- 8:02Speaker 2: all of a sudden, you're gonna have a checking account soon.
- 8:06Speaker 2: What's that? Uh? Yeah, just remember don't spend more than
- 8:10Speaker 2: what's in it uh oh okay, and they had to
- 8:14Speaker 2: go to the bank and after that, you know, I
- 8:18Speaker 2: had to have it explained to me again. But anyway,
- 8:22Speaker 2: it was a folks just didn't talk about money very
- 8:25Speaker 2: much in prior generations. Yes, it just wasn't one of
- 8:29Speaker 2: those things that they brought up much. They figured that
- 8:32Speaker 2: they figured it out, you'll figure it out and you'll
- 8:34Speaker 2: be fine. Well, of course you're taking over the family business,
- 8:37Speaker 2: that would be another story. And they wanted you to
- 8:40Speaker 2: do it the same way great grandfather did it, yes,
- 8:43Speaker 2: and that sometimes has its perils. So this is really
- 8:48Speaker 2: good that we have education involved with this for the youngsters. Plus,
- 8:53Speaker 2: you know, as a full grown adult, you can always
- 8:55Speaker 2: learn something new every day. You have this wonderful website
- 8:59Speaker 2: that is full of inver Can I say, from a
- 9:01Speaker 2: guy's vantage point of being sixty six years of age,
- 9:06Speaker 2: I can navigate it, I can serve it, I can
- 9:09Speaker 2: catch a wave. It is really easy to get around
- 9:12Speaker 2: on and it's really easy to find the information that
- 9:16Speaker 2: I need. And you've got one of those chatterbox people
- 9:20Speaker 2: in there. I don't know how they fit, but they
- 9:24Speaker 2: I'm kidding, I'm easy, but they can really get you
- 9:28Speaker 2: going to the right place answer your questions. If they can't,
- 9:32Speaker 2: they'll find somebody who will, and you'll be hearing from
- 9:35Speaker 2: them actually pretty quick. Yes, that's amazing.
- 9:39Speaker 4: Yeah, we're always looking for trying to meet our members
- 9:42Speaker 4: of how they want to be served. And so we
- 9:45Speaker 4: understand that it's not realistic for all of our members
- 9:48Speaker 4: to have to call or come into a branch. And
- 9:50Speaker 4: so whether you're sending a message to your digital banking,
- 9:53Speaker 4: are you video chatting us? You know, there's some aspects
- 9:56Speaker 4: that we can Textah, So over the last several years
- 10:00Speaker 4: we've really focused on that and tried to expand in
- 10:03Speaker 4: meeting our members where they're at and how they want
- 10:05Speaker 4: to be served.
- 10:05Speaker 2: You know, it is amazing. I'm going back to watching
- 10:10Speaker 2: how my parents say they would get all kind of
- 10:12Speaker 2: dressed up a little bit to go take care of
- 10:15Speaker 2: the financial stuff going into town as they said they
- 10:17Speaker 2: were farmers and what have you. And now in my
- 10:22Speaker 2: modern day, many many years fast forward, I'm in a hurry.
- 10:29Speaker 2: I don't know how they relaxed so much. I really
- 10:31Speaker 2: kind of would like to know how that happened. But
- 10:35Speaker 2: it's got go, go, go, go go, And with this
- 10:38Speaker 2: instant access in this instant communication, I get I get
- 10:43Speaker 2: the little things answered. I don't have to worry about
- 10:46Speaker 2: making an appointment, going down to meet somebody who might
- 10:49Speaker 2: have a few more degrees on me than I have
- 10:52Speaker 2: and maybe talking over my head like you say, you're
- 10:54Speaker 2: meeting folks right where they are. This is this is
- 10:57Speaker 2: really good. Yeah.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Yeah, again, we always want to be part of the community.
- 11:03Speaker 4: You know, members first, and so that's who we are
- 11:06Speaker 4: as Credit Union. That is our motto, that's what we
- 11:08Speaker 4: live by every day. So our members are always at
- 11:12Speaker 4: the end of what are we doing and why are
- 11:14Speaker 4: we doing it?
- 11:15Speaker 2: And our community is growing broke ground over there and
- 11:19Speaker 2: Pahusca just a couple of weeks ago, right, Yes, yes,
- 11:22Speaker 2: that's gonna.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Be cool, super exciting.
- 11:24Speaker 2: And yeah, ideas being in a new community.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Yeah, we also launched the Pahasca Spirit Card for your
- 11:30Speaker 4: debit card. So now you know, as far as those
- 11:32Speaker 4: Spirit card goes, we've got Bruin, Dewey and Pasca and
- 11:37Speaker 4: so you know, whether it's the parents like myself that
- 11:40Speaker 4: are excited to have it or the kids themselves. But again,
- 11:44Speaker 4: every time you use that card, we donate to who's
- 11:47Speaker 4: on the front of it. So Pahasca, you know, we're
- 11:49Speaker 4: getting ready to open the branch. We've already got their
- 11:51Speaker 4: spait card going, so they're gonna start, you know, getting
- 11:54Speaker 4: some donations from us as their community gets the card
- 11:58Speaker 4: and uses it.
- 11:59Speaker 2: I can vouch for this because every now and then
- 12:01Speaker 2: when it covered school board meetings, I see Sarah Freeman
- 12:04Speaker 2: with this like eight foot check come walking in the
- 12:07Speaker 2: door ending it over to the Bartlefield school Board. And
- 12:12Speaker 2: that does happen, and it's a pretty good amount. It
- 12:15Speaker 2: took a whole six foot check to put the dollars
- 12:17Speaker 2: on there, but it really works out well for everyone
- 12:21Speaker 2: who's involved in this. I think it's really cool. Also,
- 12:26Speaker 2: you were talking about the other technology. You got this
- 12:29Speaker 2: pretty cool thing.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Up in Dewey.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Yes, IDM, what's different.
- 12:35Speaker 3: What's an I I TM is going to be an
- 12:37Speaker 3: interactive teller machine. With our ITMS, it will give you
- 12:41Speaker 3: access to be able to pay on your loans, make deposits,
- 12:45Speaker 3: make cash withdrawals. You can also elect to speak to
- 12:49Speaker 3: a live teller who you can speak with. It's another
- 12:53Speaker 3: person through to talk you through any transactions anything like that,
- 12:59Speaker 3: any kind of loan issh choose. They're there to help.
- 13:02Speaker 2: My goodness sakes, and of course say you're up in
- 13:04Speaker 2: Kansas now too.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Yeah, we've had a long steaning presence in Lawrence and
- 13:08Speaker 4: we're continuing to look for growth opportunities in that market
- 13:10Speaker 4: as well. So you'll see if you follow us on Facebook,
- 13:13Speaker 4: you'll see, you know, all of our new branch openings
- 13:17Speaker 4: and what we're doing up there as well.
- 13:18Speaker 2: It's been a fantastic journey. This started with just some
- 13:21Speaker 2: ladies who worked for pill Up sixty six trying to
- 13:24Speaker 2: figure out a way to you know, save money, how
- 13:27Speaker 2: to circulate it when needed. And next thing, you know,
- 13:30Speaker 2: a credit union was born. Yeah, that's amazing. That is
- 13:34Speaker 2: absolutely amazing, and it's right here in our hometown now.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I like going to the downtown branch. You wanted to
- 13:40Speaker 2: white because I always missed something on the mural. I'm like,
- 13:44Speaker 2: I didn't see that before. Plus the people are really
- 13:47Speaker 2: nice too. Yeah, and you've got so many folks. If
- 13:50Speaker 2: the tailor can't answer your question, they'll direct you to
- 13:52Speaker 2: someone real quick. And you're not going to be killing
- 13:55Speaker 2: an afternoon. I'm telling you. You know, you might ten minutes,
- 13:58Speaker 2: maybe fifteen on what your question is. At the most
- 14:03Speaker 2: in my case. Anyway, You're you're not gonna be stuck
- 14:06Speaker 2: there all day going good. They're gonna go good. They're
- 14:09Speaker 2: gonna bring me a ticket for parking too long, and
- 14:12Speaker 2: you're not gonna have to worry about that. Then you
- 14:14Speaker 2: got the other beautiful branch, the nice new art I
- 14:18Speaker 2: call it the new Art down there on Southwest Washington.
- 14:22Speaker 2: That's that's that's something that'll take your take your eyes
- 14:25Speaker 2: off the road for a moment. Hey, what's that? And
- 14:30Speaker 2: and it's always great to have you in our neighborhood
- 14:33Speaker 2: right here. It's community, baby, and that's all it is. Truity,
- 14:37Speaker 2: a better way to bank. I want to thank you
- 14:40Speaker 2: both for being here today. Thank you folks you've been
- 14:44Speaker 2: watching and listening to are one on one with the
- 14:46Speaker 2: pro right here on Kay one, the one you trust.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Thanks for listening to one on one with a professional.
- 14:55Speaker 2: A paid presentation of fourteen hundred K one
