- 0:00SPEAKER_00: If you think camping is over because the summer has just ended, you are mistaken.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: The fall is one of the most amazing times to go camping.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Today on Inspired Travels with Patty, I'm going to talk about fall camping.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: And that means either going to a campground with your RV or lodging in a cabin, a yurt, a glamping tent, or various other ways that you can enjoy the campground and enjoy the fall without having the RV.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Inspire Travels with Patty.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: I'm Patty Hunt.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: If you are new to the podcast or YouTube channel, welcome.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: I created these channels to inspire you to live life more fully.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: And that means for me, through adventure.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: That means meeting new people, having new experiences, and seeing incredible new places.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Now, the one thing I want to make sure that people understand, first of all, you don't need an RV to travel and to see amazing places.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: You don't need a lot of money and you don't need a lot of time.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Today I'm going to talk about the fall, and specifically, I am excited about the fall leaves in the Northeast.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: A little bit of background about me.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: I traveled in my RV full-time for over three years, crossing the country three and a half times.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: I lived in the Philadelphia area most of my life, and I had never spent any time in the Northeast.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: My idea of going to the Northeast was going to New York City.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: I've been to Boston a couple of times, but I hadn't really experienced all there is to do in the Northeast.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: This summer I've had a lot of time to be in places like New York, and I'm not talking about New York City.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: I've been to Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: And the experiences I've had have been amazing.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: And now I am so looking forward to spending the fall in those areas, specifically seeing the fall leaves that are just spectacular.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I've seen them on videos and in pictures, and I can't wait to be out there and see them live.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Now again, whether you have the RV and you're going to travel by RV, staying in campgrounds, or you are traveling like me now, where I'm driving to these places and I stay in campgrounds at cabins and yurts, or you just want to take a drive for the day.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: I highly recommend making a plan.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: It is not too late.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: So it is September when this episode will go live, but it is not too late.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: You still have a month to plan.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: And a little secret there are campgrounds that still have availability.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Don't be discouraged.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Today, let's talk about ways to RV for less expensive ways to stay in campgrounds, less expensive, and resources to help you find the best places to see the fall leaves, activities in the area for the fall, and everything that goes along with RVing and camping.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: This episode is full of resources.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: I just want you to know that I am not affiliated with any of these companies I am mentioning.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: They are companies that I have a relationship with.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: For those of you who don't know, I am now working with a company called Happy Grounds, and that is 18 Campgrounds in the Northeast.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: So I do work for them and we do have partnerships with some of these companies.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: Maybe partnerships isn't the right word.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: We actually are connected to them.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Our campgrounds are on a lot of these sites.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: So just being totally transparent.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to go through a list in no particular order.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Let's start with some incredible resources to help you navigate the Northeast in the fall, see the best fall leaves at the best time of the year.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: The first is North Country Chamber of Commerce.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Now, if you're listening or you're watching the episode on YouTube, I will have all of the information in the show notes so you won't have to remember all of it.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: So North Country Chamber of Commerce is a great resource for staying in the uh northern part of New York.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: It is a great resource for the Enirrondex and has so much on their website.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: The one thing to check out is goadirondack.com, which is on their website, and that will lead you to information about enjoying the fall leaves.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: The next site that is amazing and so helpful is campnework.com.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: There's so much on that website from great campgrounds, um, information for camping, so much on there that I can't even list it all.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: But one of the things I really loved is an article called Too Busy to Camp.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: That's exactly why you should go this fall.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Great article.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Again, a lot of great information there.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: There are other websites if you're going to a specific area or specific state that will help you navigate the fall season.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: There are also a number of companies I want to point out that are helpful in saving you time, money, have amazing resources.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: And again, I'm going to list those in no particular order.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Passport America.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: This is a membership.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: I'm not going to quote prices, it's under$50.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: And Passport America has campground discounts.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: So sometimes you can book way in advance or a last-minute campground, and they do offer discounts.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: The next place that you should check out is Open Roads.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Open Roads is a fuel card savings program.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: They do have diesel fuel and now also have gas.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: So that's great.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: But they have a VIP access, which provides savings on so many things.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: There are a number of campgrounds on there, and there are partnerships with RV products and services.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: The list is so long, I cannot possibly go through the whole list.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Open Roads is a great place to go to be able to find discounts on various things.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: That is openroads.com.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Again, it'll be in the show notes.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: The next great resource for discounts is Good Sam's.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: They have discounts on campgrounds, but they also have RV insurance.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: They have roadside assistance, they have warranties, they have savings for dining and travel.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: They have, again, a long list of things that will help you save money on various products and services for RV or just traveling in general.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: They also have discounts for products and services, as I said.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: So just giving you brief ideas of resources to help you navigate the Northeast in the fall.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: And if you're going to do winter camping, there'll be information for winter camping.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Yes, there are people that winter camp in the Northeast.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: It's not necessarily been something that I have ever embraced, but who knows?
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Maybe this year you'll find me in a cabin in the winter, enjoying a hot chocolate and sitting all warm and snugly in my blanket because that sounds pretty cool too.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: I hope these resources helped.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: I would love for you to reach out on social media, Instagram, Facebook, at inspired travels with Patty, and put your tips in there to help each other.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: This is a community.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: Learning from each other is so important.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Something else that I highly recommend as you go into any new state, there's visitor centers or welcoming centers, and you can get a lot of incredible information.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Stopping in a local store or restaurant and asking a local about hidden gems, what they recommend, where they recommend going, sometimes will help you get away from the crowds.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: There's so much great information.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: Don't let it overwhelm you.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: Decide that this fall you're gonna check out the fall leaves.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: Even if you just go on a day trip, I am so excited now about the fall because I cannot wait to see the fall leaves.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: The weather's getting a little cooler.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna pull out my sweaters and just find some place to sit by the fire and enjoy those quieter days and nights in those campgrounds.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Another big tip is please do not let anyone tell you that if you did not book a campground for the fall, you have no hope of getting into a campground.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: There are many tips of how to get into those campgrounds, even when people say this is such a busy time of the year, and you will probably not get one.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: So I know from experience within our happy grounds community, 18 campgrounds, there are still availability.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: And those campgrounds that are pretty booked up, we do get cancellations.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: So a lot of times if you keep calling back to look for those cancellations, if you could do some last-minute travel, that's an option as well.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: And I know that all campgrounds have that same situation where they will get cancellations.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: So, you know, call back, reach out, check it out.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: Don't be discouraged.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: I hope this episode helped give you resources.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Like I said, please reach out to me on any of the platforms at Inspire Travels with Patty.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Leave a message on YouTube, leave a message here on the podcast platform, reach out to me privately.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: I'd love to hear your tips and tricks for what you love about the fall and any resources that you have used that have helped you to camp travel sightsee in the fall months.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Thank you for listening.
