- 0:22Speaker 1: It's the Craig Web Show with the voice of the
- 0:25Texas Longhorns and Hall of Fame broadcaster Craig Way. Continuing
- 0:33here this afternoon, by the way, updating game, the Dodgers
- 0:40still trail the Mets, Mets up six to nothing as
- 0:42they bat in the top half of the fifth inning
- 0:45with two outs in that game, again the big blow.
- 0:49Francisco Lindor had a lead off home run as the
- 0:53Dodgers go with a bullpen game today and then a
- 0:55grand slam from Mark Vinto's with two outs in the third.
- 1:00And that's the difference in the ballgame. That and the
- 1:03fact that the Dodgers have not been able to touch
- 1:06Sean and I. He has been every bit as impressive
- 1:09today for the Mets as Jack Clarity was last night
- 1:12for LA. So it looks like that series is going
- 1:14to be headed to New York, even at a game
- 1:17a piece. More from long wrn's head coach Steve Sarkasian.
- 1:21He was asked about his relationship with Kirby Smart. I
- 1:26think it was Kirk Bowles who asked him that said,
- 1:28have you known how He said, I don't know how
- 1:31well you know him? You both were assistants under Nick Saban?
- 1:35Are your friends? What your relationship is like? That I've
- 1:38noticed over the years, and I'm talking like a couple
- 1:40of decades. That is a Kirk Bowles go to question.
- 1:48He's asked it many times. I remember going back to
- 1:50Mac Brown asked him how well he knew Bob Stoops
- 1:54initially asked him how well he knew so and so,
- 1:57you know, over the years, different coaches. So the question
- 2:00was put to Sark does does he know Kirby Spark
- 2:04very well? The fact that the two were former assistants
- 2:07under Nick Saban.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Well, I have a ton of respect for Kirby first
- 2:11of all, and yeah, I we do have a very
- 2:13good relationship and we uh we we actually have a
- 2:18lot of fun together and we share a lot of
- 2:19a lot of funny stories about our mentor that that
- 2:23only that only he and I can talk about. You
- 2:25guys don't get to don't get to know those. But
- 2:27but again, a ton of respect, and I think the
- 2:30premise of our programs is probably very similar. Obviously, ours
- 2:35has got a little bit of an offensive perspective because
- 2:37of me and his a defensive perspective. But I think
- 2:40the way we built our teams, the style in which
- 2:44we try to play the game, and our belief in
- 2:46physicality and running the ball. Those things matter, are our
- 2:49belief in special teams. You know, a lot of the
- 2:51things that we do and and how aggressive we are
- 2:54and recruiting are very similar that way, And so I
- 2:57respect that, you know, our respect of the way he's
- 2:59built that program at Georgia. I respect the way that
- 3:01those his teams play. I respect the aggressive nature in
- 3:05the way his coordinators call the games. And so I
- 3:09think that's why that the challenge is fun that way.
- 3:11And I always love competing against kind of buddies, you know,
- 3:14because it's like when you were growing up as a kid,
- 3:17it was like competing with your brothers. Nobody you wanted
- 3:19to beat more than your brother or your buddy. And so, hey,
- 3:22I love the challenge I'm feeling. I'm sure Kirby feels
- 3:25the same way. You know that, Hey, this is a
- 3:27heck of a challenge for both of us, and it
- 3:29should be. It should be a great night for college football.
- 3:32Speaker 1: As we pointed out, Texas his ranked number one in
- 3:35the country UH in both the AP and the Coaches poll,
- 3:40and as we have pointed out Sark has pointed it
- 3:44out more often than we have said it. But it
- 3:50is true that those polls are nice and everything, and
- 3:53it's good for fans, good for media, but it doesn't
- 3:56ultimately determine whether your team's me in the college football playoff,
- 4:01especially this year more than ever before with the expansion
- 4:03to twelve and the cfp's committee that CFP committees rankings,
- 4:10those are the ones that will matter, although Sark also
- 4:14points that if you win your conference championship in a
- 4:16Power four league like the SEC, you're going to get
- 4:19a bye in the first round. You're in the playoff,
- 4:20and you're going to get a buye. Nevertheless, Sark was
- 4:24asked if he is able to take stock enough of
- 4:27what has happened so far to enjoy this ride, to
- 4:29enjoy what's been going on, to enjoy being number one.
- 4:32Speaker 2: It was a long day, and so I when I
- 4:35got home, I literally put my phone down and I
- 4:39watched three games right in row that had fantastic finishes,
- 4:42you know, and just to watch all those kids compete
- 4:48in those three games, and to watch the energy in
- 4:51the stadium, and to watch coaches make decisions, some of
- 4:55which were great decisions, some of which I'm sure guys
- 4:58may kick themselves a little bit over just just to
- 5:00watch it all unfold. I've said this before, but I
- 5:04feel like in my four years here, college football is
- 5:08at an all time high. You know, the the style
- 5:11of play, the excitement of the game, the exposure that
- 5:15college football is getting right now, the the flair for
- 5:19the dramatic. It just seems like it's it's heightened even more.
- 5:23And so we're we're lucky, man, and you I think
- 5:26you guys should feel lucky that you get to cover
- 5:28what's going on in college football right now. And you know,
- 5:32we've got it. We get we get that show here
- 5:35Saturday night, and so I'm I'm happy for our fans
- 5:37that that we kind of get to be part of
- 5:39that prime time excitement and to show off what dk
- 5:42R is all about. You know, the goal is that
- 5:46you're on the winning end, because I know, you know
- 5:47half of those teams in those games. You know, we're
- 5:49on the losing end of some gut wrenching games. And
- 5:52the beauty of it, though, too, is the way the
- 5:55playoff is set up. You can you can overcome if
- 5:59you lose one of those type games and still have
- 6:01an opportunity to win a national championship when before maybe
- 6:04you didn't. And so I don't know. It's just I
- 6:07watched three unbelievable endings the other night. You know that
- 6:10that Oregon ending, the LSU ending, and then that Kansas
- 6:13State ending. Those were three fantastic football games that as
- 6:15a fan of college football, I just thoroughly enjoyed.
- 6:20Speaker 1: What Sart probably didn't thoroughly enjoy was that first try
- 6:23on that pass downfield for Matthew Golden on that on
- 6:29the double pass. The second one, while being a little short,
- 6:33nevertheless it worked because Gunner Hill made a spectacular grab
- 6:37on that to set up a touchdown. So Sark was
- 6:38asked about the Matthew Golden throwing sequence.
- 6:43Speaker 2: You know, Matt, we had both those plays up obviously
- 6:46in the game, and the first one we felt way
- 6:50better about the play, and we knew that as a staff,
- 6:53and clearly Ryan Wingo was opened by about fifteen yards
- 6:57and it wasn't a And so the second one, I
- 7:02wanted to give him a chance to redeem himself a
- 7:04little bit and I had a feeling that might cover
- 7:08it a little better, which they did and was a
- 7:10heck of a catch by gunner Helm, you know, down
- 7:12there to the one, but uh, you know again his
- 7:14first both throws were in my good, bad and ugly
- 7:17tape this morning, and if anybody wants to know, when
- 7:19I saw the throw, it reminded me of something that
- 7:21reminded me of fifty cents first, you know, the first pitch,
- 7:26and so we kind of we kind of showed that
- 7:28after that throw to get a chuckle out of the guys.
- 7:32Speaker 1: It's a good way to describe it there. All right,
- 7:34we'll be back to wrap up today's program. Bureau on
