- 0:00Speaker 1: President Trump endorsing Andrew Cuomo and the New York City
- 0:02Speaker 1: Mayor's race. Just posting on social media this he says,
- 0:07Speaker 1: whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really
- 0:09Speaker 1: have no choice. You must vote for him and hope
- 0:11Speaker 1: he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it. Mom,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Donnie is not well out front now zoram Mam Donnie
- 0:18Speaker 1: the candidate.
- 0:18Speaker 2: For New York City mayor.
- 0:20Speaker 1: And so President Trump making it very clear here, there's
- 0:23Speaker 1: no beating around the bush here.
- 0:25Speaker 2: You really have no choice. You must vote for him.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Andrew Cuomo, what do you say to that?
- 0:29Speaker 3: Look, this is something that we've been speaking about for months.
- 0:32Speaker 3: We've known since the primary that Andrew Cuomo was funded
- 0:35Speaker 3: by the same billionaires that gave us Donald Trump's second term.
- 0:37Speaker 3: He denied that. Then he had a phone call with
- 0:40Speaker 3: President Trump trying to coordinate to stop our campaign. He
- 0:42Speaker 3: then denied that, and even just until these final days,
- 0:45Speaker 3: he denied that he was Donald Trump's preferred candidate. But
- 0:48Speaker 3: now it's written out for the entire world to see.
- 0:50Speaker 3: This is the man that Donald Trump wants to be
- 0:52Speaker 3: the next mayor of New York City, and not because
- 0:54Speaker 3: he's good for New Yorkers, but because he'll be good
- 0:56Speaker 3: for Donald Trump. And New Yorkers are exhausted of this
- 0:58Speaker 3: agenda in Washington. They don't want to see a mimic
- 1:01Speaker 3: of it come here to City Hall.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Do you think it will help Cuomo at all in
- 1:04Speaker 2: the polls?
- 1:05Speaker 1: I guess, specifically, if you assume that Trump's talk trying
- 1:08Speaker 1: to talk to that fifteen percentage percent of people who
- 1:11Speaker 1: say they're going to vote for Curtis Leila.
- 1:13Speaker 3: You know, we continue to be confident about what tomorrow
- 1:16Speaker 3: will look like for us. But I do think New
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yorkers must understand that Andrew Cuomo waited until the final
- 1:22Speaker 3: day before the election to have this be revealed. He
- 1:25Speaker 3: wanted to be able to make the message to Democrats
- 1:27Speaker 3: that he was in fact the governor that he said
- 1:29Speaker 3: he was, and then right at the last moment, the
- 1:31Speaker 3: last opportunity to fully embrace the MAGA movement that we
- 1:34Speaker 3: have long said he has tied to.
- 1:36Speaker 1: So Trump also posts so he endorses a Cuomo. Okay,
- 1:39Speaker 1: Then he also talked about you, referring to you as
- 1:41Speaker 1: a communist. I believe last time we talked, I think
- 1:43Speaker 1: I don't know how many times I had of him
- 1:44Speaker 1: calling you communists. That's not new, but he said, if
- 1:46Speaker 1: communists candidate Zoramondani wins the election for mayor of New
- 1:49Speaker 1: York City, it is en likely that I will be
- 1:51Speaker 1: contributing federal funds other than the very minimum as required
- 1:55Speaker 1: to my beloved first home, because of the fact that
- 1:57Speaker 1: as a communist, this one greats was once great city,
- 2:00Speaker 1: has zero chance of success or even survival. Okay, what
- 2:04Speaker 1: do you think that means? Other the very minimum as
- 2:07Speaker 1: required could be an important clause, I suppose in that sentence.
- 2:10Speaker 1: But if he says unlikely it's going to contribute federal funds,
- 2:14Speaker 1: I mean, what happens then what will you do?
- 2:16Speaker 2: If that's how he.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Goes I think you can clearly see that Donald Trump
- 2:20Speaker 3: is threatened by our campaign. He's threatened by it because,
- 2:23Speaker 3: like his we've diagnosed the crisis in working class New
- 2:26Speaker 3: Yorkers lives the cost of living, But unlike him, we're
- 2:28Speaker 3: actually going to deliver on that. And that is a
- 2:31Speaker 3: contrast that he can't bear to see because while he
- 2:33Speaker 3: is spending three hundred million dollars remodeling a white House ballroom,
- 2:37Speaker 3: the same amount of money that could provide snap benefits
- 2:39Speaker 3: for one hundred thousand New Yorkers. He's trying to make
- 2:41Speaker 3: it harder for Americans across the country to actually afford groceries.
- 2:44Speaker 3: And this money that we're talking about, it's money that
- 2:46Speaker 3: New York City is owed. It's not Donald Trump's to
- 2:49Speaker 3: decide which city or state will get what money. This
- 2:52Speaker 3: is the money that New Yorkers are owed, and this
- 2:53Speaker 3: is the money that we're going to fight for.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Okay, So Trump is not the only one talking about U.
- 2:57Speaker 3: J and I.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Elan Musk is actually talking about you.
- 2:59Speaker 1: What a pair he and you know, and obviously Musk
- 3:01Speaker 1: had supported him, was crucial to his election victory. They
- 3:03Speaker 1: had their falling out, but they're back together again. Elon
- 3:08Speaker 1: posts about you remember to vote tomorrow in New York.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Bear in mind that a vote for Curtis referring to
- 3:13Speaker 1: Curtis Sliwa, whom I just mentioned, is really a vote
- 3:15Speaker 1: for mum dummy or whatever.
- 3:17Speaker 2: His name is. Vote Cuomo. All right?
- 3:20Speaker 1: Why do you think he's speaking out against you? And
- 3:22Speaker 1: obviously the personal insult is in there as well, mum dummy.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Look, I think this is one of the more expensive
- 3:28Speaker 3: endorsements that Andrew Cuomo has ever gotten because it took
- 3:30Speaker 3: nine hundred and fifty nine million dollars in tax breaks
- 3:33Speaker 3: that he gave Elon Musk for Elon Musk's pet projects
- 3:35Speaker 3: back when Cuomo was the governor. And we're seeing the
- 3:38Speaker 3: two twin architects of this second term of it Donald
- 3:42Speaker 3: Trump's presidency, in the President himself and Elon Musk saying
- 3:45Speaker 3: clearly to New Yorkers that their candidate is Andrew Cuomo.
- 3:48Speaker 3: And they've picked Andrew Cuomo because they know that he
- 3:51Speaker 3: will be the puppet that they want right here in
- 3:53Speaker 3: New York City. And he's showing himself to not just
- 3:55Speaker 3: be that, but also to be their parrot in the
- 3:57Speaker 3: language that he's using to close out this election.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Okay, you talk about billionaires, and there have been some
- 4:02Speaker 1: really wealthy individuals who have come out and put money
- 4:05Speaker 1: in attacks against you in recent days, right my former
- 4:08Speaker 1: mayor Michael Bloomberg among them.
- 4:09Speaker 2: There are plenty of other business leaders.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Who in private will have are afraid, they have concern
- 4:15Speaker 1: There are very few who actually will talk about it publicly,
- 4:18Speaker 1: but one of them is Jamie Diamond from JP Morgan.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And I'm thinking about this in the light of Trump
- 4:22Speaker 1: calling you a communists. Jamie Diamond did not call you
- 4:25Speaker 1: a communist. He was more intellectual about it. He said,
- 4:29Speaker 1: what does he really think? You know, he was part
- 4:32Speaker 1: of that socialist democratic thing, which literally is more Marxist
- 4:35Speaker 1: than socialist. And I read it, but I don't know
- 4:38Speaker 1: what he believes in that, all right, So he's basically
- 4:41Speaker 1: saying he's not really sure where you stand on things.
- 4:44Speaker 1: But what do you say to that concern? Is Marxist
- 4:47Speaker 1: something you're comfortable with?
- 4:49Speaker 3: No, I'm a democratic socialist and I've said it time
- 4:51Speaker 3: and again. When was that quote from from Jamie Diamond?
- 4:54Speaker 2: From Jamie Diamond?
- 4:55Speaker 1: It was from Fortune last week, Okay, a Fortune conference
- 4:59Speaker 1: last week.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Because he he's also come out and said in public,
- 5:02Speaker 3: is that in our success, this is something that business
- 5:04Speaker 3: leaders would also hope for for the success of the city.
- 5:07Speaker 3: And I put that forward to say that despite where
- 5:09Speaker 3: New Yorkers may stand on my candidacy, whatever qualms they
- 5:12Speaker 3: may have, they know that I'm actually being honest with
- 5:15Speaker 3: them about my ideas about who I'm looking to fight for.
- 5:17Speaker 3: And that's sadly unique in this race, because what you
- 5:20Speaker 3: have is someone in Andrew Cuomo who spent the entirety
- 5:23Speaker 3: of a primary campaign on the premise that he was
- 5:26Speaker 3: the best suited to take on Donald Trump. And here
- 5:28Speaker 3: we are with the chirn that Donald Trump is endorsing
- 5:31Speaker 3: Andrew Cuomo.
- 5:32Speaker 1: So let me ask you, because that was October seventeenth,
- 5:34Speaker 1: so it was actually a week and a half ago.
- 5:35Speaker 1: But I want to ask you because you asked me
- 5:37Speaker 1: when he said that, Are you talking to him? Are
- 5:41Speaker 1: people like that people that you're going to sit down
- 5:43Speaker 1: with and eagerly work with or not.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Look, I'll have conversations with anyone. And I've spoken to
- 5:49Speaker 3: Jamie Diamond briefly, and I've spoken to a number of
- 5:51Speaker 3: other business leaders across the city about my proposals. I
- 5:55Speaker 3: know that there are disagreements around my fiscal policy. That
- 5:57Speaker 3: I think we should raise income taxes on the top
- 5:59Speaker 3: one percent of New York or who make a million
- 6:01Speaker 3: dollars or more a year by two percent, or the
- 6:03Speaker 3: fact that I think corporation's top tax rate should be
- 6:05Speaker 3: matching that what they pay in New Jersey. And still
- 6:08Speaker 3: there is room for an immense amount of agreement on
- 6:10Speaker 3: what it means to bring the city forward. And I'll
- 6:12Speaker 3: always leave that door.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Open so okay, So let me just ask you about
- 6:17Speaker 1: President Obama. I know that you had a conversation with him.
- 6:21Speaker 1: What was that conversation about your most recent one.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I appreciated the conversation with President Obama, and we spoke
- 6:27Speaker 3: about both.
- 6:28Speaker 2: The New York Post headline is that he's not endorsing it.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Yeah, well, the New York Post has a lot of
- 6:33Speaker 3: fun with their headlines. To put it lightly, it was
- 6:36Speaker 3: a conversation where we were speaking about the importance of
- 6:38Speaker 3: hope in politics, the delivery of that kind of an agenda.
- 6:41Speaker 3: And I also shared with him that the remarks that
- 6:43Speaker 3: I had shared outside of a mosque in the Bronx
- 6:47Speaker 3: not too long ago was inspired in part by his
- 6:50Speaker 3: remarks on race of a more perfect union many years ago.
- 6:53Speaker 3: And I think there is often a tendency in our
- 6:55Speaker 3: politics to think solely in a twenty four hour news cycle,
- 6:58Speaker 3: and the need to sometimes step back and speak to
- 7:00Speaker 3: the soul of a city and not just the cycle
- 7:02Speaker 3: of that city.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Do you think that he and he's never endorsed to me,
- 7:05Speaker 1: you're all candidates, So that's why I'm making the point.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Of course, he wasn't going to endorse, But do you
- 7:11Speaker 1: feel that he has your back. That there's because they're
- 7:13Speaker 1: plenty in the Democratic Party who are scared of you too,
- 7:15Speaker 1: and they don't know whether they're going to succeed. If
- 7:18Speaker 1: really going to sit back and watch. Do you think
- 7:20Speaker 1: he's someone who's going to be in there.
- 7:23Speaker 2: In it with you?
- 7:24Speaker 3: Well, I appreciate it, the President offering to be a
- 7:26Speaker 3: sounding board. And that's exactly what we see is what
- 7:29Speaker 3: the future of these next few weeks and months look like.
- 7:32Speaker 3: It looks like speaking to those who've been in these
- 7:33Speaker 3: very kinds of positions and putting together a team that
- 7:36Speaker 3: reflects the best and the brightest that the city in
- 7:38Speaker 3: this country has to offer, and then delivering on this agenda.
- 7:41Speaker 3: And that's what actually terrifies Donald Trump and Elon Musk
- 7:44Speaker 3: and even Andrew Cuomo the most. It's their fear that
- 7:46Speaker 3: we will in fact accomplish the things that we have
- 7:48Speaker 3: campaigned on. And that's one place where they're actually right.
- 7:51Speaker 1: All right, Sam, Mom, Donnie, thank you very much. Obviously
- 7:53Speaker 1: we're hours away, yes, hours away? Here, are you ready?
- 7:56Speaker 1: Do you expect it's going to be a big.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Night for you?
- 7:59Speaker 3: I'm hopeful, I'm confident, but I'll never be complacent. But look,
- 8:02Speaker 3: if people want to vote for Donald Trump and Needlon Musk,
- 8:04Speaker 3: they should vote for Andrew Cuomo. If people want to
- 8:06Speaker 3: vote for change, they should vote for me.
- 8:07Speaker 2: All right, Zorn Mom, Donnie, thank you very much. I
- 8:09Speaker 2: appreciate it.
