- 0:00Speaker 1: Small Z, now on KISS.

- 0:08Speaker 2: The Outlaw, Cherie Lee and Other Western Tales is out now.
- 0:12Speaker 2: He's just announced he is doing the KISS Presents iHeart
- 0:17Speaker 2: Live with Shaboosie in San Francisco. You can enter at kis.com.au.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Get all the details. Weenie way there. We are sending
- 0:25Speaker 2: a plane full of listeners to see Shaboos live. He's
- 0:28Speaker 2: on air.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Hey, what's up? This is Shaboosie.
- 0:31Speaker 3: You're listening to Smallsy on KISS.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Hey, on the show, The Boos, Shaboosie. Hello, mates. Good
- 0:36Speaker 2: to see you.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Good to see you guys too, man.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Hey, last time I think I saw you like in
- 0:41Speaker 2: the flesh. I think we were standing toe-to-toe on the
- 0:45Speaker 2: MTV Video Music Award red carpet in New York City. Yes,
- 0:49Speaker 2: and what people may not realise is... is you are
- 0:52Speaker 2: a rather large, tall gentleman. Like, you are an empowering
- 0:56Speaker 2: figure and quite intimidating at the same time, may I
- 0:59Speaker 2: quickly say.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I'm the sweetest guy ever, man. You see this smile? Yeah.
- 1:03Speaker 2: No, very sweet. Just physically intimidating.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:10Speaker 3: 6'5.
- 1:10Speaker 1: 6'5.
- 1:10Speaker 2: So this is going to be my question.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I was like 6'3.
- 1:12Speaker 3: But I was in the gym today and I was like,
- 1:14Speaker 3: I definitely could have played defensive end for a, For
- 1:17Speaker 3: an NFL team, for sure.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I'm pretty big.
- 1:20Speaker 2: This is going to be my question. What was the
- 1:22Speaker 2: backup plan? Because you have the physical presence of someone
- 1:26Speaker 2: who should have played professional sports if music didn't work out.
- 1:30Speaker 1: This should have been the backup plan.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Now that I've seen my frame, it was funny because
- 1:35Speaker 3: when I was playing football in high school, my coaches
- 1:37Speaker 3: were like, you need to play defensive end. And I'm like, no,
- 1:39Speaker 3: I want to play defensive. I want to play receiver.
- 1:41Speaker 3: And then now I'm looking at myself. I'm like, ah,
- 1:43Speaker 3: they were right. I should have played defense. I'm a,
- 1:45Speaker 3: I'm a, I'm pretty, pretty stocky.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:49Speaker 2: But there was no backup plan. There was actually no
- 1:50Speaker 2: backup plan to do sports at any stage.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Oh man.
- 1:54Speaker 2: You know what?
- 1:55Speaker 3: Like, I think that, I think this was kind of
- 1:58Speaker 3: became the backup plan.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Um, you know, I've had a lot of backup plans.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I always say like, if you love, uh, whatever it
- 2:06Speaker 2: is that you do, if you love it, don't have
- 2:08Speaker 2: a backup plan because if you have a backup plan,
- 2:12Speaker 2: it prevents you having to go all in. And if
- 2:14Speaker 2: you don't go all in on doing something like this,
- 2:17Speaker 2: the chances are that you'll ever have a career diminish
- 2:21Speaker 2: substantially because you're like, oh, I'll just go be in
- 2:25Speaker 2: a law firm or something.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah. I was reminiscing.
- 2:28Speaker 3: I was in my photo book and I realized how
- 2:30Speaker 3: long I've been working with my manager. It's been seven years,
- 2:34Speaker 3: seven years of, He met me when I was 24.
- 2:37Speaker 3: He might've been 21. So seven years of like, you know,
- 2:41Speaker 3: until we got out.
- 2:42Speaker 1: To this point. So, you know, you can't have that
- 2:44Speaker 1: backup plan, no backup plans. No, absolutely.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Hey, it's been a wild ride for you. You know,
- 2:49Speaker 2: we're sending listeners to see you overseas, which I mean, like,
- 2:53Speaker 2: this is great.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Yeah, man. I mean, I love, I love New Zealand.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I love Australia.
- 2:58Speaker 3: It's one of my, honestly, it was probably my favorite
- 3:00Speaker 3: part of last year was going, going out there.
- 3:03Speaker 1: You guys have the best food, the best people, most
- 3:06Speaker 1: beautiful cities. So fun.
- 3:08Speaker 2: And so you loved us so much. You were like,
- 3:10Speaker 2: you know what? I'll let them backstage in San Fran.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I will give them permission to come back and carve
- 3:17Speaker 2: out a little... MNG situation. Yeah. What is the show entail?
- 3:23Speaker 2: What's a Shibuzee show got for us?
- 3:27Speaker 1: You know what? Every single run is different, and that's
- 3:29Speaker 1: what I love about it.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I think with me as an artist, I love to
- 3:33Speaker 3: give people a different experience from project to project, and I.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Think people, fans, are owed the best, you know?
- 3:40Speaker 3: So what I love about being creative is you can
- 3:43Speaker 3: create anything, and with Outlaw Sherry Lee.
- 3:45Speaker 1: And the tour, I've really tried to just push.
- 3:48Speaker 3: the boundaries of what my creativity i feel like.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Entails um tell me other musicians and their influence on
- 3:57Speaker 2: you because obviously the new record you've got a whole
- 4:00Speaker 2: bunch of features there and there's the new song to
- 4:02Speaker 2: cowgirl which you do even give dolly a shout out
- 4:06Speaker 2: r.i.p to one of the greats like yeah i know
- 4:10Speaker 2: it's so like i feel like i don't know about
- 4:12Speaker 2: you but these people that we grow up with artists
- 4:14Speaker 2: that we grow up with, they feel like they live
- 4:16Speaker 2: forever or will live forever. And we don't realize it.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Moving to Nashville and just seeing how much Dolly's impact
- 4:25Speaker 3: is throughout the whole city. You know, it's almost like
- 4:28Speaker 3: she's like the governing body, you know, she's the mayor,
- 4:31Speaker 3: the queen of Nashville. So, you know, it's funny, just
- 4:34Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago, I was just talking about
- 4:36Speaker 3: how I really, really, really, really wanted to go to
- 4:38Speaker 3: Dollywood and I still want to, but, Um, it's just, it's,
- 4:42Speaker 3: it's really sad. All my, all my friends, myself, everyone's
- 4:45Speaker 3: kind of just, it's been, it's been, it's been a
- 4:48Speaker 3: sad couple of days.
- 4:49Speaker 2: For people who don't know Dollywood, like it's a, it's
- 4:53Speaker 2: a legit theme park, right? Like, like, yeah, it's got,
- 4:56Speaker 2: has it got a roller coaster and stuff like is.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it's got, it's got roller coasters.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I haven't been, you know, but, but I can't wait
- 5:03Speaker 3: to go, but it's, I can only imagine it's probably
- 5:05Speaker 3: going to be packed, you.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Know, the next couple of weeks.
- 5:10Speaker 2: You ever think about a Shibuzy Shibuzy would or, you know,
- 5:13Speaker 2: one day.
- 5:15Speaker 1: You know, it's coming. It's coming.
- 5:16Speaker 3: You know, I've had all these like when I tell
- 5:18Speaker 3: you I've had as a kid, I had so many
- 5:22Speaker 3: dreams of doing everything of amusement parks and. in movies
- 5:27Speaker 3: and TV shows and everything. So hopefully who knows, there
- 5:32Speaker 3: might be a outlaw, a Sherry Lee or outlaw theme
- 5:35Speaker 3: music park, amusement park.
- 5:38Speaker 2: What's the craziest thing that's been pitched to you? Obviously like,
- 5:40Speaker 2: like the music has grown up, right? Like have, because
- 5:44Speaker 2: it's clearly like someone pitched, I would imagine Dollywood to Dolly.
- 5:47Speaker 2: It's like, Hey, we've got this land. Do you want
- 5:48Speaker 2: to make a theme park? Like what's the craziest thing
- 5:51Speaker 2: that's been like pitched to you?
- 5:52Speaker 1: What's been pitched? Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
- 5:55Speaker 3: You know, I feel like there's probably so many wacky
- 5:58Speaker 3: ideas that have been pitched and some I can't remember.
- 6:01Speaker 3: I definitely have probably been asked a bunch of times,
- 6:04Speaker 3: when are we getting a Tipsies on Broadway?
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:07Speaker 3: You know, everyone always asks that question.
- 6:10Speaker 1: So, you know. Oh, I love that.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Maybe me and Jake Kwan can get into business and
- 6:15Speaker 3: do a Tipsies.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Hey, sign us up for that. Sign us up for that.
- 6:19Speaker 2: You could collect an EGOT. You could try and get
- 6:22Speaker 2: yourself an EGOT.
- 6:23Speaker 1: You got it. Yeah, it's coming. Come on.
- 6:26Speaker 2: That's it, baby. Hey, I've got a quick game for you.
- 6:28Speaker 2: It's called What's in the Newsy about Shaboozy? Okay, I
- 6:33Speaker 2: have Googled your name, news headlines. You just live react. Okay,
- 6:39Speaker 2: here we go.
- 6:40Speaker 1: This is the reaction. Every reaction will be like this. Yeah, okay.
- 6:43Speaker 2: So what's in the news? Please, could you give me
- 6:45Speaker 2: some credit for the game name? What's in the news
- 6:48Speaker 2: about Shibuzi?
- 6:48Speaker 1: What's in the news? Oh, gosh. Let's see.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I'm going to start softly. Ella Langley ties Lil Nas
- 6:55Speaker 2: X and Shibuzi's Billboard Hot 100 record. You must be devastated.
- 6:59Speaker 1: No, not really.
- 7:02Speaker 3: I mean, I might have maybe a couple million of
- 7:05Speaker 3: those streams. So you've probably seen about a hundred videos
- 7:08Speaker 3: of me playing that song. So, so I'm not, I think,
- 7:11Speaker 3: I think records are meant to be broken. So shout out,
- 7:14Speaker 3: shout out Ella, man. She's, she's, she killed it. She
- 7:16Speaker 3: deserved it.
- 7:16Speaker 1: A great record, a great song.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I can't help, but also think, and tell me like,
- 7:20Speaker 2: tell me your hot take on this, uh, country influence
- 7:24Speaker 2: or Nashville influence, uh, on the three artists who are
- 7:28Speaker 2: at the top of that billboard most of the week.
- 7:31Speaker 2: They all have country at their roots.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Yeah. Man, I can't really speak to that.
- 7:39Speaker 3: I think at the end of the day, there's just
- 7:41Speaker 3: something that's really infectious and just catchy and something that
- 7:45Speaker 3: speaks to the humanist in country music, you know, to
- 7:49Speaker 3: the human experience or the human condition. I don't know
- 7:51Speaker 3: what it is. There needs to be a study or
- 7:53Speaker 3: documentary about that. It's probably coming soon.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 7:56Speaker 2: What about this one? What's in the newsie about Shibuzi?
- 7:59Speaker 2: What's the story behind your GQ interview? The real-life wardrobe
- 8:03Speaker 2: of Shibuzi, who once wrote a song about his favorite
- 8:06Speaker 2: NASCAR jacket.
- 8:09Speaker 3: That one's a good one uh man shout out jeff
- 8:11Speaker 3: gordon he actually texted me the other day and wants
- 8:13Speaker 3: me to come by uh i think he's got a
- 8:15Speaker 3: nascar team he's uh he's heading so i gotta go
- 8:18Speaker 3: meet up with him but no um when i back
- 8:21Speaker 3: in my thrifting days in virginia i used to go
- 8:24Speaker 3: to the thrift store and just try to collect the
- 8:26Speaker 3: coolest nascar jackets how to get the oreo one and
- 8:29Speaker 3: then it was a ritz one daryl wall trip jeff
- 8:32Speaker 3: gordon dale earnhardt and all my friends we tried to
- 8:35Speaker 3: get the NASCAR jacket with the most bizarre endorsement.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:40Speaker 1: So they had like, there was a Fruity Loops, you
- 8:42Speaker 1: know Fruity Loops, right?
- 8:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we know the Fruity Loops.
- 8:46Speaker 3: NASCAR jacket, the Frosted Flakes NASCAR jacket, the Oreo, there
- 8:50Speaker 3: was even a Viagra one, believe.
- 8:52Speaker 1: It or not. Which is crazy. Mark Martin, man, number six,
- 8:56Speaker 1: Mark Martin. That is right.
- 8:57Speaker 3: So, you know, it's always about like, who could get
- 8:58Speaker 3: the craziest endorsement one, endorsement. So, that's kind of what inspired,
- 9:04Speaker 3: I made a song about you know, having the Jeff
- 9:07Speaker 3: Gordon jacket.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I love that. Here we go.
- 9:09Speaker 2: This is from the NBC Bay Area. Shibuzy crashes California
- 9:14Speaker 2: wedding while floating down the river in a lilo. Discuss
- 9:19Speaker 2: what was going on there.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Crazy. This is breaking news.
- 9:23Speaker 3: I'm breaking my silence about the river flow. I was
- 9:26Speaker 3: just out camping. A friend of mine, I had a
- 9:29Speaker 3: couple of days or a couple, like a week for vacation.
- 9:31Speaker 3: And I was like, why not go on a motorcycle
- 9:33Speaker 3: trip to mammoth lakes with my friends and i was
- 9:37Speaker 3: invited out there i had such a great time i
- 9:39Speaker 3: was floating down the river and his family yells out they.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Say hey you want to take a picture with us and.
- 9:45Speaker 3: I'm like why not roll by and i'm like hey
- 9:49Speaker 3: and then a whole bunch of other people roll by
- 9:51Speaker 3: there's a baby in there yeah.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Um this is wild probably would go down as one
- 9:56Speaker 2: of the weirdest places that you've been recognized right.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Yeah well you know i have i i got i
- 10:00Speaker 3: got i got a lot of dms about being invited
- 10:03Speaker 3: to weddings so yeah you know that was the first
- 10:05Speaker 3: one maybe you know you never know i might crash
- 10:07Speaker 3: somebody else's wedding.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Come on all right last one now this is a
- 10:11Speaker 2: little controversial this is a little controversial what's in the
- 10:14Speaker 2: newsy about shibuzi because i got a hot take on
- 10:16Speaker 2: this i got a hot take on this um Mum
- 10:19Speaker 2: sparks furious debate with video of tall woman refusing to
- 10:23Speaker 2: let 10-year-old in front of her at Shibuzee concert. Now,
- 10:27Speaker 2: do you remember? Did you see this online? I haven't
- 10:32Speaker 2: seen this video. Okay, so there's a viral video going
- 10:35Speaker 2: around of a woman who's on the barricade at your
- 10:39Speaker 2: show and this mum brings her 10-year-old up and says, hey,
- 10:43Speaker 2: can my 10-year-old get a view? And the woman who's
- 10:46Speaker 2: been on the barricade For the whole day to get
- 10:48Speaker 2: front row, you says, uh-uh, not happening. Absolutely not.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I'm here.
- 10:52Speaker 2: I want to see. And it's divided the internet because
- 10:58Speaker 2: parents with kids are of the opinion that they should
- 11:01Speaker 2: just get a free pass into everything. And all of
- 11:03Speaker 2: us non-children owners are like, nah, that doesn't get you
- 11:06Speaker 2: a free pass.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Wow.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Crazy.
- 11:11Speaker 2: You can plead the fifth if you'd like, but do
- 11:14Speaker 2: kids give parents a free pass to the barricade even
- 11:17Speaker 2: if they haven't waited all day?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Man, look, I think there's enough room in the barricades
- 11:22Speaker 1: for all of us, man. Barricades for everyone. Everyone gets
- 11:26Speaker 1: to the barricade.
- 11:27Speaker 3: No, I mean, you know, I'm the type of person that,
- 11:29Speaker 3: you know, if it's a kid, I'm putting someone on
- 11:31Speaker 3: my shoulders.
- 11:31Speaker 1: You know, we can all enjoy the show.
- 11:33Speaker 2: There you go.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Safety first, though. Safety first.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Safety first. There's the answer. Put the kid on the shoulders.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Then everyone gets a great view, right?
- 11:42Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Hey, you're doing the Kiss I Heart Live with us
- 11:45Speaker 2: backstage in San Francisco. We're very excited. that you have
- 11:48Speaker 2: allowed us access to your show, Good Man. The album
- 11:52Speaker 2: is out right now as well, the new song, Cowgirl. Bro,
- 11:55Speaker 2: wonderful to see you, and we hope we can get
- 11:58Speaker 2: you back in Australia again sometime soon as well.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I'm there.
- 12:02Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure they're probably working it out right now
- 12:04Speaker 3: on the schedule.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Love to hear it. He's a stylish man. Thanks so
- 12:07Speaker 2: much for being on the show.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
