- 0:07[SPEAKER_09]: I'm back to surprise that you're a rant line, rape line, whatever it is, completely full.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_08]: Why can't we just win a game?
- 0:14[SPEAKER_09]: Can I blame Michael Caspio for this?
- 0:16[SPEAKER_02]: Can I blame Bob Connelly for this?
- 0:17[SPEAKER_02]: Can I put on a zebra shirt and just go out there?
- 0:20[SPEAKER_02]: Scratch, claw, up against the wall.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_09]: Can I explain that one feeling right now, guys?
- 0:24[SPEAKER_06]: I can't believe it.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_09]: Let's open up that raised ball.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_05]: or can't believe USP is undefeated in the ACT.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_05]: Wait, we're in the big tent.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_05]: What the record.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: Oh no.

- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's weird, right?
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's weird.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_02]: It is very weird.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: It will take me about six months to get used to writing 2026.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: We don't write anymore.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like typing it, typing it out.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's a good point.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: Or like looking at like, you know, the best coaches in the big 10 for 2026, that kind of thing.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was, I was thinking like it's crazy that we're,
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: this far removed from like we're this far into the decade this far removed from covid sort of feels covid feels both like yesterday and like eight million centuries ago uh but like i always look at like the difference between this and this is the difference between that and that like the difference between twenty twenty six
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: And 2004, when SC won their last national championship, is the difference between the year we were born 89 and 1967.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it seems crazy.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like the oldies that I listened to growing up in the 90s, like if oldies stations were playing early 2000 songs, you know, I might die.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: This, this of course reminds me of the joke that I heard on the rest is just science, which was, if, if Jesus was born 20 years,
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: later earlier later later later later then in sync would be the biggest band of the 70s you really meant earlier if he was if he was born 20 years earlier no later earlier because we have to move the 20 years back
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever, either way.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: Um, anyways, uh, let's just dive into, uh, to the news, uh, shall we?
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have the news thing on the,
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: more anyways do do do do do do all right at least it's get into the news uh... took by the fence of coordinator updates uh... cf course without a fence of coordinator dantlyn has moved on to uh... having value he's he's going to be the defensive coordinator of the pen state in the alliance is all the matter u.s. he will play at pen states
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: At some point this upcoming season we still don't have the big 10 schedule.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like it's coming out this week.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's got to be soon.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's got to be.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's late and one of the reasons it's been speculated to be late was because of the Notre Dame thing.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: That they don't have to account for the Notre Dame game in SC schedule anymore.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: And so maybe that was the reason why it hasn't been out.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know either way.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, S.E.S.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: is going to play Penn State and Deadland is that Penn State U.S.C.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: without a fence of coordinator.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's talk about the names that have been bantied about, of course.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: Pete Quikowski is the name that has been out there a lot.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's the guy that I think you and I both.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: think should be USC's next defense of coordinator.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: He was at Washington under um, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: For what SD should want to do, except the new news is that this is from Bruce Feldman, but Pete Quikowski is a quote, strong candidate for the Stanford job.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, this raises the question to what is a strong candidate mean.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: This is mean someone who is interviewing and potentially are they drafting up contracts?
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: Or does this mean someone's Stanford would like?
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, because, of course, they should, like, peak-quickowski, right?
- 5:59[SPEAKER_02]: When Bruce Feldman tweets that,
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: To me, that's a reason that he's on the verge of becoming the Stanford DC.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: Feldman is one of those reporters that when they say something is close to happening or interested in happening, it's true, he's the voice of God.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, that's, I'm assuming he will take the DC job at Stanford, which is very strange.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: I don't get it.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, okay, Andrew luck is the GM there.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_02]: So maybe and maybe Stanford is willing to invest more than they have in the past.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe they've given him a big offer, but it feels like Stanford can't possibly offer more than USC could offer considering they were already paying their defensive coordinator to be a top as like the number four or three defensive coordinator in the country in terms of payment.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_02]: so it does it doesn't make a lot of sense to me unless I think there are there are two possibilities either of them good and then there's a third possibility that is blatant speculation but the first is that Pete Quikowski's skeptical of Lincoln Riley is a head coach and doesn't believe that Lincoln Riley can feel to go defense and therefore is looking elsewhere.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: or U.S.C.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: is not interested in hiring Piquacowski and have somebody else on the line, a bigger fish on the line.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: The third speculation thing, which I don't want to view as speculation, but we do know that
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: pk got fired from Texas and it's interesting to me that Stanford is the apparent landing place at this point because given his track record, he could certainly do much better than Stanford.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: So is there potentially more to that Texas firing than we realized or know?
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes you take guys off your list for
- 8:04[SPEAKER_02]: reasons beyond, you know, what they produce as far as being a DC.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_02]: That's certainly, I mean, we have no, there's no evidence to suggest that.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's no reason to think that's the case.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: Except that he did get fired and no one understands why.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so, um, but it's a, it's a big, it's a really, really big miss if it's, if it's, if it's, uh, if USC doesn't have,
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: a better candidate on the line, then this may go down as one of the biggest whiffs in USC history as far as trying to hire, uh, having somebody available to be hired and then not getting them.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: I, I, I'm going to throw out some ideas here.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: One is the Stanford thing leveraged.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe from Pukowski's camp.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: It, it could be, and if that's the case,
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: would Feldman see through that to the point where like he could read why it's been
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: talked about among sources and therefore weed outs.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: The validity of the thing wasn't Feldman.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_02]: I would be open to that possibility.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_02]: But Feldman saying this and not mentioning USC is another option.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: Feldman isn't for Britsio.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: I and the the other thought I had here is like you talk about whether or not that this he thinks it's a Lincoln Riley thing I wonder if it's a if it's a U.S.E.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: defensive coordinator think it's like I'm every every U.S.E.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: In terms of coordinator has like not lived up to the expectations of people have expected
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: even before Lincoln Riley, like he had a conversation with Jason Wilcox.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: Look over for Wilcox at UW, right?
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: So like he knows just the Wilcox.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's coached against just the Wilcox, all that kind of stuff.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: So like maybe he knows that track record.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing is like I don't get the Stanford thing in the sense of like if you if S C is not where you want to go.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: then take a sabbatical like I don't I don't see the Stanford thing unless you just you are such a grinder like you got a coach it's in your blood you've got to do something and then okay you're going to take the same for you but I just think like Stanford and this kills me to say this it's like it's a black hole for college who pull right now
- 10:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean this is why I bring up Andrew look because like maybe if you really buy into the infrastructure that they have in place, then you are, you know, along for, for that particular ride, you know, it could be a preference for living in the Bay Area.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: It could be a family thing.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_02]: It could, there's a million other things that are going on here.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_02]: Sure, um, Russ in the chat says the idea that DCs are afraid to play for a Riley offense that scores a million points to game is utterly silly when I say the the thing about not wanting to join Lincoln Riley staff I don't say it around the idea that like the DC wouldn't want to have an off a defense opposite Lincoln Riley's offense
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: what I'm saying is that there is the theory one that I cannot back up with any evidence or proof or anything like that because Riley's offense is actually very slow tempo and doesn't run a lot of plays and doesn't tire out their defense as much as people would like to say that it does.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's not one of those offenses.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: The concept that Lincoln Riley cannot produce
- 11:50[SPEAKER_02]: A, any lead defense or even a top defense comes from, you know, speculation about, is it the way he practices?
- 11:59[SPEAKER_02]: Is it the way they game plan?
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: Is it the way he runs the team?
- 12:02[SPEAKER_02]: Is it, is it this, that or the other thing?
- 12:04[SPEAKER_02]: There's a million things that people have proposed, a million things that, who knows who the hell knows?
- 12:09[SPEAKER_02]: I have no concept for any of that.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: But at this point,
- 12:17[SPEAKER_02]: you know you do have to you do have to look at it and say okay if people are uncertain about Lincoln Riley as a head coach.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_02]: Then, you know, maybe you don't want to go join a staff that's just going to get fired in a year.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's certainly part of the equation that these DCs have.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: Walter in the chat also says it's possible that PK wanted to shake up the defense of staff.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: This one is interesting.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you've heard this Michael, but the idea that maybe
- 12:49[SPEAKER_02]: Pete wanted full control of defensive staff and USC doesn't want to part ways with particular people on the staff like their kinder system would make the most sense to me.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and if that is the case.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_02]: then I totally get why kukowski would say peace out i'm not i'm not doing that because i wouldn't want somebody you know making those decisions for me as a dc uh... if you care about those things yes and or if you like if you had somebody in mind
- 13:20[SPEAKER_02]: that you wanted to be your defensive line coach, and you knew they were going to be a really good defensive line coach, but USC said, no, we must have Eric Henderson.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_02]: So when you haven't worked with before, and you don't know if they're, you know, what their level is, I could see that being like, yeah, no, I'm not signing up for this.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_02]: Like that, that would make sense from a, if this is the thing that's driving off, Korkowski, from a USC perspective, if this is the thing that is driving off,
- 13:48[SPEAKER_02]: elite defensive coordinators, then is it is a thing that USC must change immediately.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: That's not how serious programs run themselves.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: You do not.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: And this is a conversation I've had about the hiring error Kenderson as the defensive coordinator.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's just error Kenderson is a good recruiter.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: I get it.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_02]: He brought in some really good players.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_02]: But having any lead DC is way more important than an individual recruiter, especially in the NIL age, where you know, half of those guys could be retained if you just give them the right financial package.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: that that was different yeah now like if we're pretty still huge huge and even maybe even more valuable than before but like it's it's different now especially like and and this is a conversation that like you and i were wanting to have and maybe maybe this is the the opportunity to just do it in a bridge version of it but like there's this thing that's happening in soccer right now that is happening in call trip on it's the same thing
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: and it's the idea of the distribution of power.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: And really, it's the removing of power from coaches and putting it in the hands of the front office, right?
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like, this is why Chelsea and Enzo Maraska parted ways.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't want to be a coach.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: They want to be a coach.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: He wants to be a manager, which means he can make personal decisions.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: They don't want to do that.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_01]: same thing happened Manchester United and Ruben Everham, right literally same thing.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_02]: Similar thing happened at Not any forest Anyways, this was the power structure that that you're gonna clop at Liverpool.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, refused to come unless it changed Yes, and why does it matter for call triple because we're seeing the same thing right now where like the
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: NAL and all of that is creating the need for a GM.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: And so SC is brought in a GM in Chad Bowden.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think in the best way possible, this makes it better for coaches because they don't have to grind as much in the recruiting side of things because they can lean on the help around them, right?
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like the problem is,
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: a coach is hard when you have coach your entire career with that autonomy and so like if that's a thing here which we're just completely speculating this is based on nothing you know could be always a factor when you when you when you hire coaches now because maybe they don't want the inputs of the GM on personnel decisions.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: on any of those things.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: And this is why I think that the harmony and the best possible situation that you can have is a coach that is fully supported, both in terms of effort, money, and
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: Alignments on mind sets and coaching style and all of those things because if you're all working on the same page like alignment to the word that you know Lincoln Riley talked about when he got hired Mind you that was before Ted Bowden was there to like that is the that is the best case scenario
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: but you do run into problems.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: You see this in the NFL all the time that there's peak carol only one to go to the C-hawks because you could be the GM too.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is a thing.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: that you have to sort of deal with as you go forward.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know if that's sort of the fact here.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_02]: It's all speculation because there's nothing out there about it.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's been really quiet.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_02]: Literally the first nugget of information we had on Quikowski aside from everyone just saying, this makes a lot of sense for USC.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_02]: The first actual nugget from a legitimate reporter was he's in line for the Stanford job.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so it's on the one hand USC having things on lock where it's that quiet is a good thing because programs that keep lids on things and keep things internally tend to be well run programs.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_02]: But at the same time, like, it leaves a lot of room for speculation and all that kind of stuff.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_02]: And I will say, like, this time last year, we were sitting here going, why hasn't USC hired a GM yet?
- 18:32[SPEAKER_02]: Why hasn't USC hired a GM yet?
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: What is the weight?
- 18:35[SPEAKER_02]: Why are they waiting so long?
- 18:36[SPEAKER_02]: What is going on, blah, blah, blah?
- 18:37[SPEAKER_02]: And it turned out they were waiting for Notre Dame to finish in the, in the, Call of Probable Playoff to make the splashy as GM hire that you could possibly make.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_02]: If you want, if you're a U.S. fan and you want some optimism around the DC question, and if P.K.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_02]: as we agree is the best candidate on the board, and it seems that he is no longer in line for U.S.C.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_02]: that the optimistic take here is that U.S. he's waiting for somebody that's playing in the in the callable playoff.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: And if that's somebody is on staff with Miami,
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: or Indiana, or well, Oregon's pretty much been sort of part, but Indiana and Miami have
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: very good coordinators that if USC managed to snare either one of those, we would we would completely flip around our perception of what is going on with this higher.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: So so much of this is like it's the weight that's frustrating, but the weight doesn't mean the weight doesn't mean USC doesn't have something.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_01]: Well, this is the Penn Safety thing, right?
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: Penn State botched the process, but they won the higher, you know what I mean?
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: Same thing with Mr. Good.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the process won the higher, right?
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that can be a thing here, but I don't know the SE's botching the process as much as like
- 20:00[SPEAKER_01]: There's there's an ANC vibe here and then part because the transport is open and so the time is ticking you got to be quick You got to be quick on all these things.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: You got to go out there and get the guys that you want to get and are they going to sign with you when you don't have a D. C. I don't know.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's good.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_02]: But the funny question the funny thing is we are going to discuss that and we're going to discuss no less than two defensive players who have signed with USC despite Who have committed USC despite
- 20:29[SPEAKER_01]: you know having a DC so yeah and it also not means so other other possible other names here algalden is someone who worked at Notre Dame it was obviously former temple and Miami head coach she then got fired at Miami became a DC it was like very good as a DC it was very good at Notre Dame
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: and then ultimately is landed in the NFL and the the the sked about on golden is that he's going to be staying with with the bangles, but he's a guy absolutely that would be a fantastic hire for the trips to get.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_02]: Um, for the record, it's not, it's no longer scuttle, but because just in the last hours, though, the Bengals announced that they were bringing back that Taylor their head coach and Zack Taylor their head coach, city's bringing back his entire staff, so that's official.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and then the other name you alluded to was Eric Henderson and players are tweeting about this, Floyd card tweeted about this in the transfer portal, Devon port, Devon
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he said this is nothing that is new to USC, this is we've seen this many a time before players wanted a co-cho, players wanted to play help.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_01]: Here we go, the players want Eric Henderson, you talked about like him being recruited and all that.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: I have a hard time with this as a potential higher in part because I think you promote within when you know you have someone on staff who will be the Rockstar guy and maybe this is just my outside perspective but I don't think Anderson is that guy right or you promote within because you want to keep something going with continuity that is already at an elite level right yes the other thing though
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it fits the MO of what S.C. has done the last two previous apps off seasons in three including this one, right, which is for all the faults and the words that Lincoln Riley may have as a coach from your perspective, like
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: He has made a lot of the right decisions in the off season the last two years and not just him but like the effect department by going out and getting Chad Bowden a year ago and getting rating Notre Dame staff like those were all home run decisions that everyone has as thought that was good all the staff guys that Lincoln Riley brought in like an era candor send as a defensive line coach.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: Good, like people have raved about those things, going out and getting mad ends from North Dakota state as your linebackers coach a couple years ago.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: Good, all these things good ambition going out and getting guys with.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: you know, outside interest, Danton Lynn wasn't the, the brand name hire, but he was a hot name when I see hired him, you know what I mean?
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like there was interest there from other schools that would have wanted to get Danton Lynn if USC didn't.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: promoting Eric Henderson feels like the antithesis to what has gone on in the last two years at USC, like that's the part I don't understand about it, which is why I'm reluctant to buy into that being the solution here.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and it's the timing of it is weird because if it was, if it was going to be Henderson and they like I guess I guess we'll see this week right because right now if we if we sort of just go off what we kind of know and or can assume if PK isn't happening and now it may be if they were waiting for Al Golden
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: to figure out if he was going to fire from the bangles or not, now that he's not getting fired, then USC can just say, okay, our plan was if not that or that, then we'll just promote Henderson.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_02]: If it's been Henderson for any longer than that, there's no reason not to just announce it.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the timing on it feels a little bit weird unless it happens in the next day, and at which point it will be pretty clear what what the hold-up was I'm with you though Like just because the players want him doesn't mean that's the correct move in fact If USC had a top 10 defense sure I'd be all about it, but USC defense is barely top 50 so like yes
- 25:18[SPEAKER_02]: this isn't this isn't the time to go and take a chance on somebody who's never been a defensive a real defensive coordinator has only ever had a defensive coordinator title as a salary thing.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_02]: So it's it's it's it's it's it's the laziest move.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_02]: There are much better options that U.S. you could be going after and and hiring internally would feel like U.S. he was settling
- 25:44[SPEAKER_02]: worry me a lot because I'm with you the way that USC has gone about doing their higher three certainly under Jen Cohen now with Chad Bowden feels like they should be more at the very least those two should be more ambitious in terms of where they're turning to go find their to to go find a new DC and you know the thing here
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think Eric Henderson on paper, like you just read his Wikipedia page.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think it makes sense, right?
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like you want to superbowl ring with the rams.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's listed as, was he listed as a codice?
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: Am I crazy?
- 26:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's codice on a USC.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: Which is, again, it's just a name only that doesn't mean anything.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: Again, on paper, we didn't read his Wikipedia page, it makes a lot of sense.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: The issue here is he's never been an outright DC, I would like someone either who has or is trending to that spot that has buzz around them from other, you know what I mean?
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: When UCLA hired Danton Lynn, he was a guy that NFL circles had talked about being a potential guy, right?
- 27:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, are people talking about Eric Anderson as being a defensive coordinator?
- 27:17[SPEAKER_02]: I have seen his name brought up once for the first time like yesterday, okay, and it was four, um, I don't even remember what it was for.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_02]: It was, it was, it was, it was somebody else.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even remember.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't like, you know, it wasn't like a big, yeah, a big thing.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: Jay Mariano in the chat says, in my opinion, if it was Henderson, it would have been announced there, right?
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: Should have been announced already.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_01]: Also, don't you think Henderson would have already left if it's another college job when she's waiting for an NFL job?
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: That absolutely could be the case.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: It could be the case that he's still on staff sort of, there's no need for him to to leave right now.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like, either you're going to wait for out the DC higher, you're going to wait
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: the DC higher yourself, or you're going to wait to see if it's another NFL job.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: So you just sit in a waiting pattern for sort of everybody.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: Transportal is open.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: This also means that there are players being signed and still out there who are unsigned in S.C.'s parlance of calling players resigned.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: These are the names going to run down this list really quick of all the guys who are confirmed to be resigned and coming back for next season.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: Jade Mayava, my name is Jordan King Miller.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: So no kinds, that device Williams, Carson Tabarachy, Nella Tupo, Walter Mathiams, Walter Mathias.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's right there, right?
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's an easy mistake.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_02]: a little bit, yeah.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, thank you.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: Just in town new, Elijah Vercona, Elijah Page, Kaylon Miller, to buy his Raymond Killian O'Connor, G.D. Abassiri, Jamal Jarrett, Floyd Picard, to Keem Stewart, Cameron Crawford, Bralyn Shelby, AJ2 Etele, Desmond Stevens, Jaden Walker, Crawford, Brown, Marcellus Williams, Kennedy, Earl Locker, Christian Bears, and Ryan Seary.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: Those are all the guys confirmed to be coming back.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_02]: Well those are those are the the players of note.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_02]: There's a bunch more, but we don't want to have to read off a, you know, 60 name list because USC is recind actually it's probably closer to like 80 because USC is recind the vast majority of the players that were on the roster.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_02]: Walk on backups.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: Guys who we don't know if they're going to contribute all of that kind of stuff.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_02]: So I just tried to sort of narrow it down to the players whose names you might know the players who
- 30:01[SPEAKER_02]: maybe we'll be starters or whatever.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_01]: These are the unsigned guys of notes.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's all long straight.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: Who now there are reports out there that he is considering a transfer his brother Kevin Longstreet is entered the current report all.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll come back to this in a second.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: So that is one to note obviously.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: Offensive Lyman, a lot of you know who was
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: A wall for the Elm of all?
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: Do we know anything there?
- 30:37[SPEAKER_02]: nothing.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_02]: We know nothing.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_02]: I am assuming, I am just assuming that he will not be back.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_02]: Because to me, if you go, if you just go AWOL and don't answer calls or just are not reachable, that's essentially putting yourself in the transfer board.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_02]: And from a U.S. e. perspective, Alani Noah was not a good enough offensive lineman for them this year to let that slide.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_02]: like you almost have to make a make an example of him that like this this is not this is not acceptable.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_02]: Um so if he's not already in the transfer portal then he probably should be in my view.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_01]: Tamir Robinson, uh, unsigned so far.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see if maybe incoming transfers, uh, is, is why that that would be a hold up.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, Alex Graham, uh, freshman corner who,
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: got hurt early in the season and was someone who people looked at his potential savior to the secondary saw him a little bit in the end of the season uh still lots of room in the the db room for for him but he is still unsigned and kaden chintin chintin the kicker forber freshman all american kicker who is wally piped by rancy area um he's not in the portal and he's not timed
- 31:56[SPEAKER_01]: go with the portal and sign for a top 25 team, dude, like I, and I, I feel bad for the kid.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: I, I do, but like, he's gonna, he's gonna find a landing spot that's gonna be good, even if it's not, SC, right?
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: You have to think.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, I just have to assume we'll go somewhere.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how that'll work out for him, but he should be.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_02]: But Alex Graham is the big one.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_02]: Alex Graham should not be allowed to leave your USC for a long time.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_02]: GD have a Siri.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to talk about that in a second.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_02]: What we already said he was in the coming back list.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_02]: uh... for a long-time gda have a series of the one that i was looking at going like there is no circumstances under which u.s. he should let him walk Alex Graham is now the next big name there um... but if you look at u.s. he's deaf chart uh... there are a lot of defensive backs there are a lot of corners yeah um... but the safety uh... deaf chart is not particularly uh... you know robust
- 33:03[SPEAKER_02]: So if Alex Graham, he was on the, on the, on the depth chart for the albumable, he was listed as a backup safety, which may have just been a break class, break glass in case of emergency situation, but you know, considering his nickel back, the alignment there, maybe he could,
- 33:27[SPEAKER_02]: factor in in the safety situation.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_02]: Profit Brown is assumed to be the starting nickel back, but he could be a starting corner for USC if that sort of shook out that way.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_02]: So if I was Alex Graham, I mean, I could see him looking at the thing and thinking I might not be starting next year.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_02]: But if I was Alex Graham, I'd bet on myself and assume I'm going to be starting next year.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know?
- 33:52[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we'll see on him, you'll see what the hold-up is, but I would be very disappointed if he didn't come back.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: We'll keep it out of there.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: And then I'm so long straight.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_01]: This is the one that I think we can discuss a little bit here.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_01]: Considering a transverse brothers in the portal,
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: S.E.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: did not have a great quarterback performance in the Valero Alamo Bowl, just like they did not a year ago in the S.R.S.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: distribution Las Vegas Bowl, although they got a sensational one the year before in the Direct TV holiday ball followed by a year of poor quarterback play last year's S.R.S.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: distribution Las Vegas Bowl, terrible quarterback play.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: really good quarterback player in the season following it.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: So if anything, bad quarterback play in the elimable means good quarterback play for Jayden Mayava in 2026.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: But what does that mean for a song long street?
- 34:54[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think there's, you know, knee jerk reactions of, oh, my have a bad long street must be good.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: Keep long street.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: Start him over my have a bad.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_01]: There's
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but I think more than anything, you, you, you need a guy or you would like a guy with the upside of a song Long Street to be on your roster, right?
- 35:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what, what is, what, where are you on this whole Long Street thing?
- 35:26[SPEAKER_02]: I want a long straight on the roster.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think that he would be a great backup for U.S.C.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_02]: in 2026.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think he would be the era parent coming into 2027.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_02]: He'd have plenty of time to have gotten developed and so that when he made his debut, theoretically in 2027, he'd be ready to go and compete at the highest possible level.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think the best case scenario for everybody involved is him coming back to U.S.C.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_02]: and just letting this all play out.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_02]: If he decides to go, that's his decision, but it's a decision that will impact him more than it will impact U.S.C.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: And I say this from the perspective of this.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_02]: There is a long history of quarterbacks who have had the decision of whether or not they wanted to be developed by Lincoln Riley.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_02]: The ones who decided to be developed by Lincoln Riley have by and large been massive successes.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_02]: high quality starter.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_02]: The ones who have decided not to be developed by Lincoln Riley are a very mixed bag that is weighed heavily towards not succeeding in any in any place.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_01]: Founding around the first report all and.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: The only quarterback that has had really, really good success after leaving his Jackson Dart, but S.C. didn't bring back Jackson Dart because they brought a guy named Caleb Williams who won the highest.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_02]: The biggest success is that I can think of after leaving Lincoln Riley, we're all guys who didn't choose that.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_02]: Like, Dart left because Caleb was coming in.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_02]: It was very clear.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: there are there are very very few success stories of guys who choose not to play for Lincoln Riley and has on long street might be one of them.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_02]: He could end up at Oregon or any other good place that doesn't good job of developing quarterbacks and he could be really really good.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_02]: my perspective on this is that that's on him to decide if he wants to take that chance and go go find himself somewhere else.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_02]: Will U.S. CB okay without us on Long Street?
- 37:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, history tells us this because number one
- 37:58[SPEAKER_02]: Lincoln Riley, his quarterback evils are the only thing I trust him about at this point.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_02]: And if he has already decided that Hassan Longstreet is not his starter, then that tells us enough.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like, there was a point during the Alomobile this past season, like a few days ago, where if Hassan Longstreet was ready to play, Lincoln Riley could have very easily plugged him in and seen what he had.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he replaced Spencer Rather, Spencer Rather got replaced when he wasn't even doing extremely poorly.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_02]: He was just doing like me and he never came to Williams.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: He never replaced my Ava Mint game.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: He never replaced Miller Moss Mint game.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_02]: because they never really gave them the the need to, but if a song long straight was that good of a prospect that he knew was can't miss that they knew that they couldn't let go, then they would have taken pains to stop that from happening.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_02]: Like you could if they wanted to choose between my other and long street, they did it and they chose my other.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_02]: So number one, people are making a lot of assumptions about what level my
- 39:14[SPEAKER_02]: that he is ready to be that guy.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_02]: Without, with all of the signs telling us that Lincoln Riley does not believe he's ready to go.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: And, and, and, and the fact that, you know, if USC was was desperate enough to keep him, they would have given him a bag that was big enough that they, he wouldn't have, you know, he wouldn't have any reason to leave.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_02]: So for me, USC saying basically allowing this to happen
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: not that bothered by it or has made his choice and is confident enough in my other.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_02]: And next season USC will just end up in the same position they were in this season with my oven being the starter and a true freshman being their backup, which the true freshman being, um, uh, I am I forgetting his name right now.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_02]: Um,
- 40:06[SPEAKER_02]: But Jonas Williams, Jonas Williams, who's a really, really good prospect who could be just as good as, as, as, as, as, as on long street.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: And if, if you as he needs to dip into the portal and find a, a veteran backup or have Sam here would come back and fill in if that needs to happen, then that'll happen.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_02]: But when it comes down to it
- 40:27[SPEAKER_02]: All of the history tells us that the risk is on long street, not on U.S.E.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_02]: U.S.E.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_02]: will be fine at quarterback.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_02]: If Lincoln Riley is the coach, it's very simple.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_02]: And if my office leaves and U.S.E.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_02]: doesn't have anybody next year to instantly replace, you just do what all of the CFP teams did and just get a plug-and-play starter.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's two in the bird and three in the bush or what's the, what's the, what's the, two in the hand is worth, one in, one in the hand is worth two in the bush.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: Anyways, that's to me with what what this is, right?
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like you know that if, if the, if the thing is just about the starting position, right?
- 41:21[SPEAKER_01]: Jayden Mayava is someone who, when he is like, if you would run it back, given the regular season, right, there's no reason not to, unless you had someone that you knew was absolutely going to be better, and I think that Hassan Longstreet could be.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_01]: But you don't know he is better yet because he hasn't gotten the opportunity yet.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_01]: And just given the way that college football is and the transfer portal exists, you don't need to plan for the future quarterback anymore.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_01]: You need to plan for this next season.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_01]: And so if that means that you put all your eggs in my office basket, then you put all your eggs in my office basket.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like I, I don't know what else to say.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's it sucks because you want as long straight here.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: 1,000% you do.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_01]: You want long street and you want join us Williams and you want everybody at the same time.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's just not the reality and hold your boat right now.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't win the starting job, you're probably going to transfer.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't stay long enough, you've got opportunities elsewhere.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_01]: And the way college football is, you can find a transfer quarterback if you need one.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_01]: look at the long list of national championship and playoff quarterbacks of late how many of them have been transfers almost like the majority of them yeah like a lot of the if ever there was a time to say uh... will do it this later for quarterbacks in the playoff for a while i'm saying they're all transfer all transfers
- 42:59[SPEAKER_01]: The only one that is, that I think is a, a normal traditional pathway is chamblas and like, and chamblas was a D2.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: He was a digital champion, so, you know what I mean?
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: So like, even that's not normal, but like you can, you can lie to yourself and say that's JuCo, you know what I mean?
- 43:20[SPEAKER_02]: He was a D2 quarterback who came into Ole Miss as a backup.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_02]: He was not going to be the starter.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_02]: He walley-pipped Austin Simmons.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's, and the other thing, I just, I'm going to be fighting this battle all off season, but like, I don't think people give Jayden my oven, nearly enough credit.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_02]: If you put Jayden my oven on Ohio State or Oregon or Indiana, he would have been in New York for the Heisman ceremony, if not winning that damn trophy.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_02]: If he had an offensive line like any of those guys did, or a defense like any of those did, it would be such a different situation for him.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_02]: it's it's just frustrating that like U.S. defense of some U.S. defense of given up on the idea of jade my over being good enough when the reasons the reasons that they're mad at jade my over the reasons they think that jade my over isn't isn't good enough are largely less to do with my over and much more to do with an offensive line that was
- 44:28[SPEAKER_02]: barely functional, uh, that was functional and did a, did a fine job, but like, we're grading on a curve there.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_02]: Because they were nothing near what Ohio State or Oregon or Indiana had.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_02]: And, and, and, and, and with a defense, both all three of those teams had defenses that are in the top 10 in like defensive FBI and takes so much weight off of the quarterback
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you go with what you know, and what you know is that my office absolutely is a quarterback that will win your games.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_01]: He was a big factor in even the games I see lost he had his moments right like I thought he he played well at times in the Notre Dame game.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't as good as against Oregon, but he had a couple of really good drives the Illinois game.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_01]: He was we would have been the reason to see one the game if they would have him and lemon would have been the reason they they One the game that they didn't lose because of my offer and they can no no and again I will I will continue to go back like people want to say that it's all lane and lemon But yeah, having really good receivers makes a huge difference.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_02]: This is 100% true.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_02]: You know what's done?
- 45:45[SPEAKER_02]: You yes, no poor parking lot ourselves also
- 45:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know what else is really, really helpful to a quarterback, having a run game that's consistent because your offensive line is dominant, having a pass, having pass protection unless you sit back in the pocket for an hour and pick a part of defense.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_02]: You don't need wide receivers, making 50, 50 catches if you get to sit in the pocket for five seconds.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I have a, let me push back on that.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: you do if you're going to throw gold line fades every other play in the red.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yes, for sure.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_02]: But like it's easier to run everything if you have a really good offense line and USC has not had a really good offense line in a long time.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, the defense he people people lack like he can't like win big games.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_02]: He scored the points necessary against Illinois.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_02]: He scored the points necessary against TCU.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you have seen lost those games because the defense had stinkers in the end.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_01]: The true irony here is that his Notre Dame performance in 2024, he throws a two pick sixes at the end of the game and that absolutely was a factor in why SC was not able to tie it late, absolutely.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like, wasn't his PFF grade like the highest against Notre Dame all season or whatever, Notre Dame was the national runner-up.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_01]: So like, yeah, the thing with my obviously, you're going to get a lot of good in a lot of, like, uh, at the same time, you have to mitigate the, and for the most part this season, he did.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_02]: He did not do that, you know, mobile, uh, but yeah, but why, again, and, okay, so again,
- 47:31[SPEAKER_02]: that the games where Jade and my Ava was had the most in were in games where USC lost the battle in the trenches.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_02]: There is not, USC could not run the game.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_02]: USC could not run against TCU.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_02]: They could not run against Nebraska.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_02]: They could not run against Notre Dame and they could not run against Oregon.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_02]: All of those games are ones where it makes a difference if you have an offensive line that actually gives you time.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_02]: And this idea that like my, somebody said in the chat that my of is turnover prone, yeah, quarterbacks who are under pressure a lot are turnover prone.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_02]: That's, there's, there's a, there's like a link there.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_02]: And
- 48:17[SPEAKER_02]: For all intents and purposes, if you had my avatar just as many interceptions as he did this season, but had USC's defense make one more stop each game, USC is probably in the playoff.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's probably, I think they are.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_02]: Or at least have 10 or 11 wins.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to change the organ in another day and game.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_01]: You get one stop again, one more stop again, Illinois.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: although they got two weird stuff with turnovers, but what are some about the, you know, you know what I mean?
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: One more stop against Illinois and they're in the playoff.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_01]: Anyways, let's talk about the transfer portal, the transfer portal is wide open, of course.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: And SC has been out there hosting dudes, looking for dudes, all that kind of stuff.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_01]: Gonna run down some guys who,
- 49:03[SPEAKER_01]: were on campus, quarterback, cornerback, John Tets Williams, wide receiver to Braille Anderson, defensive lineman, Stofilin Green from Clemson, linebacker, Devon Washington, a Devon Bryant from Washington, Zaryah Fisher from Penn State, Camp Coleman from Auburn, Tyree Adams from LSU, those guys on campus in the last couple of days,
- 49:28[SPEAKER_01]: including some commitments, the three commitments here, John Tedg Williams, the corner from Iowa State, Terrell Anderson, the receiver from NC State, and Devin Bryant, the linebacker from Washington.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_01]: At least those three guys of that list are those guys you would have preferred to be the commitment set of that list or how do you see them?
- 49:51[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I think that, uh, Junta's Williams absolutely is a lockdown corner.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_02]: Getting Junta's Williams is at the very least to me, like bringing in, um, oh my gosh, what?
- 50:05[SPEAKER_02]: The guy who was with the Vikings, who was really good as a freshman.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_02]: Uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh
- 50:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's a fresh, you know, a kind of black man.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_02]: My kind of black man, yes.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's a senior.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_02]: Brought in is a, I'm saying, like, as somebody who you come in, automatic number one, no question, like shut down corner, he simplifies everything for USC because number one, he was doing that at Iowa State in a power conference.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_02]: And unless his like injury really sets him back, I think this is pretty confident that he's going to be okay going back to USC.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_02]: And it just simplifies everything because now you know, Junta's Williams locked in.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_02]: Now you have competition between a whole lot of other corners for that one spot, but that competition frees you up for so much.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I'm penciling in Marcellus Williams as the starter right now, but
- 51:05[SPEAKER_02]: Now we get to see an actual battle between Jason Johnson and Marcellus Williams, and then any of the freshmen or any of them that come into that.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_02]: And the more guys you have competing for that, the more options you have, the more you don't have to just like this year, USC had to settle on Nicholson and Williams.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_02]: because they were their best options, and they weren't always great options, but they were their best options.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_02]: So you sort of had to live with it, where now that competition can sort of raise everything, raise everything up.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_02]: Terrell Anderson, I like.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_02]: He feels like a guy who, while his production isn't particularly impressive,
- 51:52[SPEAKER_02]: can come in and be sort of a little bit of a solid veteran presence next to Tenokines.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_02]: I would like to see USC maybe swing a little bit more for the fences, but like Cam Pullman was just always going to end up at Texas Tech, I think March to Indiana.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Nick Marsh went to Indiana, which again is, you know, if you want to go to a national title contender, I'm not going to argue with you.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm I'm happy with the addition.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure that he is 100% like wide receiver number two.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_02]: But USC has a success with guys coming from NC State and Bishop Pacharel was from NC State and he translated pretty damn well.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_02]: and the the the situation behind to no kind I feel very strongly will settle itself out U.S. has so many options to to choose from that the pieces were fall where they are and I expect to real Anderson to be one of those starters and somebody else to be come through as either number two or three and sort of move Anderson around for more he ends up.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_02]: Devon Bryant, um, U.S. C's biggest position of talking to a friend about this, U.S.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_02]: He's biggest position by far, and we aren't talking about it enough.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_02]: The biggest position only that U.S. has this offseason is linebacker.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_02]: know if ands or buts and i don't know that u.s. he wants to acknowledge that because u.s. he's coaching staff seems to think that the that the doesman Stevens is their guy but fact is is that u.s. he needs a lot of help quality improvements at linebacker and I would like to have seen them swing
- 53:42[SPEAKER_02]: way more for the fences.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_02]: There are some guy Cal just had a guy enter the portal that like USC should have been on the phone and offering the sky in the moon to get him to come to USC.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm skeptical that they will be.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_02]: So to me, Devon Bryant is just a little bit to run of the mill in terms of making me super happy.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_02]: However,
- 54:07[SPEAKER_02]: He is far in a way and upgrade in run in run defense over literally anybody on the roster.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_02]: He like his his run defending grade this season would have it was like five spots better than five points better than Eric Gentry who was USC's best run defender and he wasn't even that could have a run defender.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_02]: So, if USC is looking for somebody who can go in and provide more of that presence and play tough and play hard, which my understanding of Devin Bryan is like, his mentality is very good.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_02]: And maybe that will hopefully that kind of attacking mentality could rub off on someone like Desmond Stevens.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think that that could be a really good addition.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_02]: My concern is that he's pretty vulnerable in coverage.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm not sure that you can like,
- 54:51[SPEAKER_02]: play him every down, we say he's a thumper and that'll lurker yeah he's a thumper not a lurker so he's one I'm very curious of he's one I think it's certainly an improvement in terms of the abilities that he has specifically in the run game but
- 55:08[SPEAKER_02]: I just, USC, so much hinges on that lineback position that I would like to see even another addition there of a starting level, starting level linebacker who will really like be a general in the middle, so none of these guys are guys who I, I look at all these guys and I think those are fine additions.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_02]: Those are good additions.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think USC is making a mistake on any of them.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_02]: uh, with the wider receiver in linebacker, I think it would just be nice if USA was bringing and guys who were maybe, um, closer to all conference status.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think John does Williams is someone who could, could maybe aspire there to be all conference.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_01]: but solid could make a difference but solid starters yes on your dream national championship team the rotation okay yes you know I mean yeah seven bright three tackles sorry third and tackles for Washington 63 tackles two tackles for loss the number 15 that landed linebacker in the transfer portal according to 247 at least as of the other day um yeah and and to go back to
- 56:32[SPEAKER_01]: I, if he's the McCye Blackman, fantastic.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_01]: The corner you just don't have to think about anymore.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_01]: You can focus on the other side.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like you said, that is the dream scenario.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_01]: You don't, you just even have to be all conference.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like he just has to be strong and not, you know, not a liability.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_01]: And the guy that you know is going to give you a 75
- 57:02[SPEAKER_01]: only played five games to season towards ACL yet for intercepts and forty six tackles a year ago for the cyclones and like that's good uh... is pff grains were fantastic all those things
- 57:18[SPEAKER_01]: a year ago, where we not say in the same things about DJ Harvey, and I know DJ Harvey was in the mountain last.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's the big difference.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_01]: And he was like an all mountain last second teamer, and John Toes Williams was playing at a high level in the Big 12, which is not an easy conference to play at a higher level at a higher level than, yes, but.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's coming off of an injury and like the injury thing guys come off of ACLs all the time and they're fine The ACLs are not the death sentence that they were 25 years ago But
- 58:01[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_01]: I just worry because S.C.s corner transfers a year ago, you felt really good about in DJ Harvey and Jason Johnson.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_01]: Jason Johnson got hurt, and DJ Harvey just wasn't as advertised.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: So, um, and this is, this is the,
- 58:20[SPEAKER_02]: he's the number one corner in the transfer portal like he's the best option you could have gotten so absolutely he's who you needed to go i don't i don't want to be a white blanket here like no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no
- 58:45[SPEAKER_02]: is that I have been disappointed with the evaluations that USC has made with it with regards to transfers.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_02]: And now they got Bishop Fitzgerald bang on.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm I'm not going to like tell say they've missed on everybody.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_02]: But I think that there is clearly been
- 59:08[SPEAKER_02]: too many misses in terms of guys that we thought we're going to come in and be impact kind of players and have been very not that.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's a combination too of guys who may be You missed on the the scouting of how much of an impact you thought that could be
- 59:32[SPEAKER_01]: And then the other thing is just not getting an out of them, right?
- 59:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like at some points, if you're scouting guy, you're getting guys that, you know, 247 things are good.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_01]: The media things are good.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_01]: Other schools thought we're good, all those kind of things, but you're not getting anything out of them on a repetitive basis.
- 59:56[SPEAKER_01]: than it's a huge problem.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but I think S.E.s, you know, stuff with the transfer portals, spent a bunch of mixed bag that it feels like you could look at it either way.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_01]: You can look at all the transfers that have been fantastic, and you can look at all the ones that have been bad, and you can make any argument that you want.
- 1:00:14[SPEAKER_01]: And everything sort of, uh, there for the taking there.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_01]: So, all right, uh, let's get to, um,
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_02]: Well before we get to over with the transfer portal positions that have not been addressed that you want to be addressed, I think USC needs help on the offensive line if only just some some depth and you're running back, no, no, I don't think you are seeing just running back.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_01]: So you're good with way in Jordan, King Miller and the two incoming freshmen.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_02]: I've got women Jordan King Miller, Riley Wormley, Dishon Rodo, and Sean Olson on the 2-Death.
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_02]: I'm fine with that.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's perfectly suitable.
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_01]: But coming off of a season which you lost your one and two.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_01]: And you're you lost your one and two and you're three and four had injury issues throughout the year and you ended up with the walk on guy who was fantastic and great But like so it's not like you struggled to to get the carries in there, but like you also didn't have a lot of bodies very quickly like five guys Is is nice if you have them healthy all the The entire I don't think you can operate.
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you can operate.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you can operate.
- 1:01:37[SPEAKER_02]: In the NIL era, if you're going to go find a running back that's worth playing, you are going to have to spend some money.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_02]: And at a certain point, maybe it is time to give Riley warmly his chance.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe we do want to see Dishon Rodo and Shana.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_01]: I just, like, are they going to be healthy?
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's the question.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_02]: But you can't, we're talking about, okay, U.S.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_02]: He needs to be six or seven deep because five guys might get injured.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that's crazy for the right
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't I don't we see every year like running back to never healthy.
- 1:02:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, but but like you what you see had happened to them this past season was unusual in terms of in terms of the severity.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, losing those guys for as long as they did.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_02]: I am more than happy to roll with the five that USC has and the walk-on's that have been sort of hanging around for a while and just sort of let that be.
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_01]: All I'm saying is there was one running back to SC had that did not get hurt all year.
- 1:02:35[SPEAKER_01]: one.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_01]: So I, that's where I work.
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, to me, I, I'll always take another body.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_01]: But I agree that like, if you're, if there's limited NIL money and you've got to distribute your, your NIL dollar somewhere, your recruiting hours in video game parlance, like, yeah, it makes sense to focus on the offensive line and other, other, other.
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's more
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_02]: I would love a dominant defense event, but okay, so I guess here's what I would say, I would say I think that USC needs depth on the offensive line, if not a plot, if you can find a plug and play starter by all means, bring them in, but if nothing else you need a body or two just to help your depth there because you don't want to be in a position where you have to play for freshmen.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_02]: U.S.E.
- 1:03:36[SPEAKER_02]: needs in order to become a fully fledged, good defense, U.S.E.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_02]: needs a dominant pasture.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care what position they play, they just need to be a dominant pasture pasture.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_02]: Zaryah Fisher from Penn State is a solid defense van, he has a good past-rush rate.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_02]: You played against a big ten opposition, I think he'd be a good addition.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_02]: If USC was going to make a big home run swing in the portal this year, I would need it to be in one of two positions, a dominant pasture or a field general middle linebacker.
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_02]: But it's hard because those guys number one have to exist.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_02]: And number two, USC has to outfit everybody else who wants them.
- 1:04:27[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_01]: My, like, the thing about the fence of Andes, like, Zaryah Fisher is interesting.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_01]: He's a guy who's gonna, he's getting ready for a seventh season in college football.
- 1:04:42[SPEAKER_01]: And he's gonna be a true six year medical red shirt guy.
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_01]: But he came enrolled in 2020, so he had to free COVID year, so seven years.
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_01]: But anyways, like,
- 1:04:59[SPEAKER_01]: three-and-a-half tackles for the last two-sacks for the Dittling Alliance this past year.
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_01]: Number eight rated defensive end.
- 1:05:07[SPEAKER_01]: I, yes, I, I, I, I, I, the more the Marier and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:05:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he's just not the, like,
- 1:05:13[SPEAKER_01]: He's not the guy that I think is holding you back.
- 1:05:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like the guy that told you, you need your leg out through love too.
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_01]: You need your, you're, you're, you're to a pillow too, right?
- 1:05:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like you need that guy.
- 1:05:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know who that guy is.
- 1:05:25[SPEAKER_01]: Ideally, you, you, you create that guy out of Braille and Shelby.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_01]: Out of, camcrowfer.
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and that's, and that's the tricky bit right because you just need that because in theory U.S.E.
- 1:05:37[SPEAKER_02]: has the guys that they need between Shelby and Fountain and, you know, Luke, Luke faithful coming in, maybe being that guy theoretically, if you decided to move your team's tour back out on the outside, like theoretically you might have that guy.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm wondering where you're playing the series.
- 1:05:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's the theoretically that is worrying me because theoretically USA came to 2025 set on the edge with fountain and Shelby and Lucas and that unit didn't produce the didn't have the production that USA needed from them consistently.
- 1:06:14[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe it's a
- 1:06:18[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's a schematic thing.
- 1:06:21[SPEAKER_01]: I just have a hard time given that maybe we're buying too much into the sack production of that's- Oh, no.
- 1:06:30[SPEAKER_02]: You see L.A. team.
- 1:06:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, maybe- Underdent and L.A. Maybe, but I also, like, using my eyes this season, USC didn't win enough of those pastrosing snaps just in general.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that, and we saw a year ago, where, like,
- 1:06:48[SPEAKER_01]: there they would rush eastern mascarinas Arnold right up the a-gap and he'd almost never get there but like that was one of the ways to sort of get pressure on third down which would open up a hold in the middle of the field luckily tomorrow antsy would be behind him to get tackles there which were there so good on third down and twenty four but I I guess my my concern about s.c. defense of front
- 1:07:13[SPEAKER_01]: is that I like a lot of the individual players.
- 1:07:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know what, you really show me.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_01]: I like politicians.
- 1:07:24[SPEAKER_02]: What?
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_02]: They're like politicians.
- 1:07:26[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody likes their local politician and everyone hates Congress.
- 1:07:30[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I, I don't know.
- 1:07:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's completely true, but I hear what you say.
- 1:07:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I, I really liked you to have a series.
- 1:07:40[SPEAKER_01]: I really like to keep stood.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_01]: I like these individual guys, and they've all flashed in their own ways at different moments.
- 1:07:49[SPEAKER_01]: To keep straight, extremely productive, given the limited run that he got this season as a true freshman.
- 1:07:54[SPEAKER_01]: But like, I like all those guys, just collectively, the production's not there.
- 1:08:00[SPEAKER_01]: And is that on Henderson?
- 1:08:03[SPEAKER_01]: Is it on Noah?
- 1:08:04[SPEAKER_01]: Is it on, was it on, then, Lynne, like, was it on,
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_01]: little bit of this little bit of that probably but i am sure it's the present in the transfer portal right i just also have
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_01]: my sort of concerns, but.
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:08:21[SPEAKER_02]: So just to put this into perspective, um, in the big 10, so only the big 10, the past rush, like past rush success rate, um, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Indiana, Penn State, Ohio State, Rutgers, Illinois, Wisconsin, Northwestern, those were the
- 1:08:45[SPEAKER_02]: U.S.E.'
- 1:08:46[SPEAKER_02]: 's top success rate was Braille and Shelby, type for 18th, was 7.9, 7.9%, Zaryah Fischer from Penn State was 7.5, the next guy from U.S.E.'
- 1:08:58[SPEAKER_02]: 's Floyd Bucard, who was not a regular starter, 6.9, I like Floyd Bucard.
- 1:09:03[SPEAKER_02]: I like Floyd Bucard a lot, actually.
- 1:09:06[SPEAKER_02]: GD Abaciri, 6.4, Devon Tomkins, 5.4, Cam Crawford, 5.1, 49th in the big 10.
- 1:09:14[SPEAKER_02]: like that can't be where your edges are at.
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_02]: You're starting, starting edge rushers cannot be that low.
- 1:09:26[SPEAKER_02]: Anthony Lucas 5.0, like it's not going to cut it.
- 1:09:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's simply not going to cut it if USC comes in with these guys repeating the same.
- 1:09:34[SPEAKER_02]: Like even, even Shelby, which is sort of closer to fine, if Shelby is your second guy,
- 1:09:41[SPEAKER_02]: And you have a neat guy opposite him.
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_02]: We're good.
- 1:09:44[SPEAKER_02]: But you can't have Shelby's 7.9 being far on a way.
- 1:09:48[SPEAKER_01]: You're best while you're not getting successful play from your linebackers, right?
- 1:09:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, this is a situation where you just didn't get a lot of havoc plays from your defensive line, but your linebackers made all the plays behind them.
- 1:10:02[SPEAKER_01]: That'd be a different story, but that's not the story here.
- 1:10:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's also not the story of like, maybe there's a guy who was just, you know, sat in the edge and eaten up blocks and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:10:11[SPEAKER_01]: So he wasn't productive, but he was creating space for other guys.
- 1:10:15[SPEAKER_01]: That would be individually fine, but like, you can't just have everybody lacking production with the exception of to Keem Stewart in his 12 snaps that he got all season or whatever it is.
- 1:10:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:10:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, so, yeah.
- 1:10:28[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, we got us to pretend.
- 1:10:33[SPEAKER_01]: uh... from showing a beautiful us indexes now we talked about the third game of the season but how many more sacks that i see get this season versus last year and versus the median love y'all you want to pull that up uh... uh... yeah so you see at twenty one sacks last year yeah
- 1:10:48[SPEAKER_02]: This year they had 31 led by Cam Crawford at 5.5.
- 1:10:52[SPEAKER_02]: The issue, we have like 14 through 3 games.
- 1:10:57[SPEAKER_02]: The issue really is they had 14 in the first three games, again, the worst teams that they played all year.
- 1:11:02[SPEAKER_02]: That three against Michigan.
- 1:11:05[SPEAKER_02]: But they had two or less against, you know, most of the, like one against Notre Dame, zero against Oregon, zero against Iowa.
- 1:11:15[SPEAKER_02]: They finished out the, at this season strong with four against UCLA and three against TCU.
- 1:11:20[SPEAKER_02]: And it did feel like they were getting to the quarterback more regularly against TCU.
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_02]: But it was, so it was an improvement, but like not.
- 1:11:31[SPEAKER_02]: This is the problem with everything about USC's defense at this stage like, was it better than before?
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but also before was terrible and now USC just like took one step up in their fine.
- 1:11:55[SPEAKER_02]: You're looking at the elite defenses Miami, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Indiana, Texas Tech, Miami.
- 1:12:03[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, sorry, Miami, Ohio.
- 1:12:05[SPEAKER_02]: They're all up above 40.
- 1:12:06[SPEAKER_02]: Now does USC have 40 sacks to have a successful season?
- 1:12:09[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 1:12:10[SPEAKER_02]: But the closer you get to 40, chances are the more successful that you're going to be.
- 1:12:14[SPEAKER_01]: You don't even have to have a lot of sacks to have a good past rush.
- 1:12:18[SPEAKER_01]: But it certainly helps, right?
- 1:12:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if you have a lot of sex, then your past rush is definitely good.
- 1:12:25[SPEAKER_01]: So the interesting thing is I just pulled it up in conference play alone.
- 1:12:33[SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking that SC would be very poor the last two seasons because both of those seasons SC were very production-wise
- 1:12:48[SPEAKER_01]: Um, 234 SC ranked 11th in Big 10 play alone with 15 sex, 225, where do you think SC ranks?
- 1:13:00[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, seventh.
- 1:13:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, tied for seventh.
- 1:13:05[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, with Oregon.
- 1:13:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but Oregon had shut down corners and good linebacker play.
- 1:13:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:13:14[SPEAKER_02]: Good defensive line play and I wouldn't have guessed that.
- 1:13:17[SPEAKER_02]: I really would not have guessed.
- 1:13:18[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so here's here's the thing though.
- 1:13:20[SPEAKER_02]: So I just went to PFF pressure grades.
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_02]: This is the overall team pressure grade.
- 1:13:26[SPEAKER_02]: I will lead the conference Oregon, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Washington, Penn State, USC is 12 behind Illinois Illinois.
- 1:13:35[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, Ohio State is is 10th.
- 1:13:42[SPEAKER_02]: So again, you can have a good defense without a super high pressure rate, but Ohio State also had an overall defense of grade of 93.8 or USC's was 79.5.
- 1:13:53[SPEAKER_01]: So like, you know, the other thing too is, you know,
- 1:13:58[SPEAKER_01]: Small sample size when you look at totals and like S.C. SAC numbers, yes, the tied for 7th with 18 sacs and big 12-plight, big template, but literally half of those came against Purdue and New Sealer.
- 1:14:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they had none against Oregon, none against Iowa, one against Nebraska, one against Notre Dame.
- 1:14:22[SPEAKER_02]: one in the Illinois hit like those games that you need more production out of your dudes so yeah and and for the record uh U.S.E's pressure rate last season ranked uh 15th so in the big 10 24 for
- 1:14:40[SPEAKER_02]: We're not into, we're not into twenty twenty five being last season yet.
- 1:14:46[SPEAKER_10]: Okay.
- 1:14:46[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:14:47[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:14:47[SPEAKER_02]: So USC did get better in terms of producing pressure, but again, like you need a leap and not just a small step.
- 1:14:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:14:58[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 1:14:58[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get to overunder.
- 1:15:02[SPEAKER_01]: Looking back at the, the holiday bowl overunder and
- 1:15:06[SPEAKER_01]: Sort of like this is this is the big deal.
- 1:15:08[SPEAKER_03]: Lot was on the line Take your going open.
- 1:15:18[SPEAKER_03]: I think we're bold.
- 1:15:18[SPEAKER_03]: Give me that over.
- 1:15:19[SPEAKER_09]: I'm going I gotta take it under here I got three hundreds of tanks.
- 1:15:22[SPEAKER_09]: I'm gonna do an under here.
- 1:15:23[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 1:15:24[SPEAKER_01]: We start's over under 114 and a half king Miller rushing yards use that over.
- 1:15:29[SPEAKER_01]: I said over under 99 He was
- 1:15:35[SPEAKER_01]: He should have been over him.
- 1:15:36[SPEAKER_02]: He was so close.
- 1:15:37[SPEAKER_02]: He was so close.
- 1:15:38[SPEAKER_02]: And it sucks because honestly, the run, the run blocking in that game was just pitiful.
- 1:15:44[SPEAKER_02]: And if he, and he still got 99 yards, if he, if, if, if, if, if the, if the offensive line that even just finished the season, if Elijah page plays, I guarantee you King Miller gets, uh, gets the, the, the freshman rush and record and the thousand yards.
- 1:16:05[SPEAKER_02]: But alas.
- 1:16:06[SPEAKER_01]: But alas, uh, over under six and a half Kennedy or locker tackles, we both said over, it was under.
- 1:16:11[SPEAKER_01]: Two.
- 1:16:13[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't expect that one at all.
- 1:16:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:16:15[SPEAKER_01]: I've been the one I put the most confidence points behind.
- 1:16:18[SPEAKER_02]: I, yeah.
- 1:16:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure what happened in terms of him.
- 1:16:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:16:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not being as near near the ball as much in this game.
- 1:16:28[SPEAKER_02]: Uh-huh.
- 1:16:29[SPEAKER_01]: Next one over under 60 and a half.
- 1:16:32[SPEAKER_01]: uh... zecharias Williams receiving yards you said under i said over it was under it was there it was under yeah there
- 1:16:44[SPEAKER_02]: I, I, I really like sacrifice volumes, but that was a no show performance and I, I don't know, I hope he's just getting back from injury and will be at full strength and full speed next year.
- 1:16:57[SPEAKER_02]: But it's been a pretty disappointing run for him.
- 1:17:00[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, all right, over under one and a half TCU interceptions thrown because I see
- 1:17:14[SPEAKER_01]: It was one, one pick, there was a deflection Christian Pierce snatched that one, next one over under ten and a half TCU second half points you said under I said over it was under
- 1:17:29[SPEAKER_01]: right at 10.
- 1:17:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:17:31[SPEAKER_01]: Got that 10.
- 1:17:34[SPEAKER_01]: Last one.
- 1:17:35[SPEAKER_01]: Over under 4.48 TCU second just to the yards per carry.
- 1:17:40[SPEAKER_01]: You said under I said over.
- 1:17:42[SPEAKER_01]: It was over.
- 1:17:43[SPEAKER_01]: It was 4.9.
- 1:17:46[SPEAKER_01]: When I first looked at this, I thought it said 4.49.
- 1:17:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
- 1:17:49[SPEAKER_01]: We were right on the nose.
- 1:17:51[SPEAKER_01]: 4.9.
- 1:17:53[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 1:17:54[SPEAKER_01]: Alicia.
- 1:17:56[SPEAKER_01]: For the week you went three and three.
- 1:17:58[SPEAKER_01]: I went one and five, but of course It's the bowl game.
- 1:18:01[SPEAKER_01]: We double things for the bowl game, maybe?
- 1:18:05[SPEAKER_01]: Which means you went six and six and I went to in ten You were bowl eligible this for in the bowl After a very rough season I'll take getting back to 500.
- 1:18:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, rough week for me Let's look at the top rockbox of the week
- 1:18:23[SPEAKER_01]: We had a lot of good scores.
- 1:18:25[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of 10 pointers, which was going five and one, our buddy Steve and the Bay Area, Britt Nervines, Kati C, Aaron for Madison, Stephen Chod, 10 points.
- 1:18:37[SPEAKER_01]: But there was a 12 pointer.
- 1:18:39[SPEAKER_01]: It was John clown.
- 1:18:42[SPEAKER_01]: Clown with a K. Yes.
- 1:18:44[SPEAKER_01]: At least we go into, we set the stage for where the rock butts were for the season,
- 1:18:54[SPEAKER_01]: the Bogan.
- 1:18:56[SPEAKER_01]: Vince in San Diego.
- 1:18:59[SPEAKER_01]: There he was.
- 1:18:59[SPEAKER_01]: The number one seed is 2024 Oregon.
- 1:19:05[SPEAKER_01]: Number one clearly number one undefeated the man.
- 1:19:11[SPEAKER_01]: 41 points he had won on the season.
- 1:19:16[SPEAKER_01]: followed by a John clown at number two thirty nine hh and hb thirty seven Trevor M. at thirty six j vandy and Steven shot at thirty five uh... i was tenth with thirty three that was nice right there with l.a. Fred and air in from medicine yes uh... or but he's even the bay area pickle and mousse pants in the middle there uh... but here's how it took out
- 1:19:45[SPEAKER_01]: drop the 10 pointer, a 12 pointer, a 12 pointer, yes.
- 1:19:52[SPEAKER_01]: Perfect six to no.
- 1:19:53[SPEAKER_01]: Perfect score.
- 1:19:54[SPEAKER_01]: Vince and San Diego, fumbled it.
- 1:19:59[SPEAKER_01]: Two and four, which means he got four points.
- 1:20:04[SPEAKER_01]: He falls from first place to a tie for second with Steven Chaud who had 10 points himself and moves up from fifth to second.
- 1:20:12[SPEAKER_01]: So John Clown and Gradulations, congratulations.
- 1:20:19[SPEAKER_01]: You are the winner for this year's over under Rod standings here, 51 points won a big win because Steven Chad and Vincent San Diego were at 45.
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_01]: So really separated with a dominant showing in the bold game about a Stephen Bay Area and Trevor M tied for fourth.
- 1:20:44[SPEAKER_01]: Aaron from Madison, J. Vandy, tied for six, moose pants alone in eighth Britain Irvine, alone in ninth, tennis got a scene pickle, 12, H, H and H, B, H, H, H, H, H, H, B, struggled like I did in the bogan, only two points.
- 1:21:04[SPEAKER_01]: H, H and H, B fell from third to 12.
- 1:21:07[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I feel that, I feel that pain,
- 1:21:13[SPEAKER_01]: Because at least here, there was the 13th Ties, which were a kangaroo 30 in Matthew and A.L.B.C.
- 1:21:18[SPEAKER_01]: and then 15th, which you all alone.
- 1:21:22[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go, late comeback!
- 1:21:25[SPEAKER_01]: Which means that 16th was a tie between me and fittingly fighting on MC from Palmdale.
- 1:21:36[SPEAKER_01]: You were a head.
- 1:21:37[SPEAKER_02]: I gotcha by one.
- 1:21:38[SPEAKER_02]: I gotcha by one.
- 1:21:40[SPEAKER_02]: All season.
- 1:21:42[SPEAKER_02]: I've been trailing behind, all season struggling, and I gotcha by one.
- 1:21:46[SPEAKER_02]: Look at that late comeback.
- 1:21:49[SPEAKER_01]: I was dominating your ass somewhere.
- 1:21:51[SPEAKER_01]: You were dominating, I do not know what happened.
- 1:21:55[SPEAKER_01]: I did quite honestly.
- 1:21:56[SPEAKER_01]: I let all the rap arts at one point.
- 1:21:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:21:59[SPEAKER_10]: What happened?
- 1:22:00[SPEAKER_02]: I got back to 500.
- 1:22:04[SPEAKER_02]: You dipped under.
- 1:22:06[SPEAKER_02]: You're like me and our bull pickup.
- 1:22:10[SPEAKER_01]: That one, this was probably the worst bull performance I've ever had in my life.
- 1:22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and not just like, it's not just that I did poorly into one in five, which is only two points, lost ten points there.
- 1:22:24[SPEAKER_01]: But I was way wrong on Kennedy or Lacker, way wrong on Zacharias Williams, way wrong on the stupid interceptions.
- 1:22:36[SPEAKER_01]: King Miller, King Miller was a bummer.
- 1:22:39[SPEAKER_01]: That was just a bummer.
- 1:22:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:22:40[SPEAKER_01]: The second just of yards, I got that one.
- 1:22:44[SPEAKER_01]: The second half points, I missed by a literal half point.
- 1:22:49[SPEAKER_01]: So, I don't know, I don't know.
- 1:22:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why you guys listen to me because I clearly don't know what I'm talking about.
- 1:23:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm clearly.
- 1:23:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm hideous.
- 1:23:02[SPEAKER_01]: Clearly.
- 1:23:03[SPEAKER_01]: It is.
- 1:23:03[SPEAKER_01]: Anyways.
- 1:23:07[SPEAKER_01]: Congratulations.
- 1:23:08[SPEAKER_02]: Reach out reach out John.
- 1:23:11[SPEAKER_02]: Email rain of Troy at fancited.com.
- 1:23:15[SPEAKER_02]: We need to we need to start giving the winners of our league something.
- 1:23:19[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't want that there will be but reach out and we'll bigger something out.
- 1:23:24[SPEAKER_01]: We'll do something for sure.
- 1:23:26[SPEAKER_01]: All right, your score predictions are our score predictions.
- 1:23:34[SPEAKER_01]: for the album uh... you said thirty five twenty four trodans over the frogs i said thirty three twenty nine i was close in the score i said i see by four the game is said by three points uh... the other way as the loses uh... to see when thirty twenty seven um... yet any other new thoughts that's been almost a week because i i will tell you
- 1:24:02[SPEAKER_01]: I've already forgotten about half the game.
- 1:24:07[SPEAKER_02]: My thoughts on the game, I don't know if I said this on the, on the, um, car cast or not, because maybe I hadn't, like, looked at the numbers or anything like that.
- 1:24:17[SPEAKER_02]: But, um, to me, the game is very much defined by the discombobulation of the offense, and then the defenses issues that are, have always been there.
- 1:24:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:24:32[SPEAKER_02]: having U.S. he's offense be missing so many players, not just starters and stars like Jacoby Lane and McIleman, but the top two tight ends, multiple offensive linemen.
- 1:24:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think the offensive linens shake up and just reaching sort of the bottom of the barrel.
- 1:24:53[SPEAKER_02]: really set USC back and you know, I think people want to create the narrative that Jade Mayava without McIlaman and Jacoby Lane is just a scrubber or something like that.
- 1:25:04[SPEAKER_02]: But to me what happened was he clearly had plenty of trust and ability to get the ball to Teno kind to had like 150 yards.
- 1:25:18[SPEAKER_02]: It was clear that the other receivers and, and, and, and my, of a, we're not on the same page, and it was clear that USC USC's inability to run the ball had him unsettled, and the whole situation had him unsettled.
- 1:25:30[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm not reading a lot into the offensive performance.
- 1:25:34[SPEAKER_02]: TCU had their entire two-deep defensively playing in that game from the season USC had like three starters on the field.
- 1:25:44[SPEAKER_02]: defensively again, U.S. he was missing a lot of guys and TCU while missing their quarterback and their top receiver just seemed like they were in a more stable position than U.S. he I thought U.S. he's defense through themselves around pretty well, but the mistackles in the end are
- 1:26:06[SPEAKER_02]: they are what they are and in the end it's not that big a deal.
- 1:26:11[SPEAKER_02]: The only big deal about the game or the loss is if the way that U.S. he lost that game is just the way that Lincoln Riley loses games, which I think is a perfectly reasonable thing to be concerned about, but yeah.
- 1:26:25[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely, yeah.
- 1:26:26[SPEAKER_02]: On Twitter, I did a comparison, a depth chart comparison between USC's depth chart and TCU's depth chart, and who was available and who wasn't, and USC's is just red lines all over the place.
- 1:26:40[SPEAKER_02]: And TCU's is three red lines in total across 22 positions.
- 1:26:45[SPEAKER_01]: I want to make clear that, like,
- 1:26:49[SPEAKER_01]: S.D.
- 1:26:49[SPEAKER_01]: should have won this game even with the starter.
- 1:26:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, they were had out, right?
- 1:26:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think pointing out the discrepancy in opt-outs and transfers and all that kind of stuff, it's not an excuse as much as an explainer for why S.D.
- 1:27:05[SPEAKER_01]: didn't perform as they had throughout the season.
- 1:27:08[SPEAKER_10]: They just look very awful.
- 1:27:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't view it as an excuse because they should have still won the game.
- 1:27:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:27:15[SPEAKER_01]: They should have made a tackle on 3rd and 20.
- 1:27:17[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever it was, right?
- 1:27:20[SPEAKER_02]: They should have made a tackle 10 yards down the field.
- 1:27:22[SPEAKER_02]: They should have made a tackle.
- 1:27:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:27:24[SPEAKER_02]: 13 yards down the field, 14, 15 yards down the field.
- 1:27:28[SPEAKER_02]: Anything.
- 1:27:29[SPEAKER_02]: Anything.
- 1:27:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:27:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:27:32[SPEAKER_01]: There's a button I wanted to press, but I can't press it yet.
- 1:27:35[SPEAKER_01]: Because we gotta get to the mailbox.
- 1:27:36[SPEAKER_01]: So let's let's just do that right now.
- 1:27:38[SPEAKER_01]: You've got mail.
- 1:27:40[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we'll start with an email from Tony.
- 1:27:45[SPEAKER_01]: Michael, Olicia, this is Tony from the Norpa.
- 1:27:49[SPEAKER_01]: I keep hearing people come up with excuses why we lost this game, and I'm tired of excuses.
- 1:27:53[SPEAKER_01]: No excuse for missing three tackles on a runnyback, who was an inch from the boundary.
- 1:27:57[SPEAKER_01]: No excuse for throwing the pick inside of the five.
- 1:27:59[SPEAKER_01]: No excuse for play calling at the two yard line at overtime.
- 1:28:02[SPEAKER_01]: No excuse for the defensive coordinator.
- 1:28:04[SPEAKER_01]: Keep going to the three man front and zone behind it.
- 1:28:07[SPEAKER_01]: The young man shredded it all game.
- 1:28:09[SPEAKER_01]: Excuses excuses excuses excuses.
- 1:28:11[SPEAKER_01]: I would love to hear Lincoln at the press or just rip everything.
- 1:28:14[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody, including himself, and I'd like to see a accountability from this team.
- 1:28:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not a big, saving fan, but he didn't give his teams a moment to be satisfied.
- 1:28:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's why they hosted up most multiple titles.
- 1:28:27[SPEAKER_01]: Tony is an RPA.
- 1:28:29[SPEAKER_02]: We feel that Tony spoiler alert.
- 1:28:32[SPEAKER_02]: You did not hear that really get the press conference and again I think we take press conferences too seriously a lot of the time, but I will say that like, I just Lincoln just stop saying your close just just change change change the way that you approach these things.
- 1:28:54[SPEAKER_02]: You're only opening yourself up to.
- 1:28:59[SPEAKER_01]: being made by.
- 1:29:01[SPEAKER_01]: I like some media training in this.
- 1:29:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think we need to stop listening to taking press conferences verbatim in terms of coach speaking, whatnot.
- 1:29:10[SPEAKER_01]: But I like some media training on not just look around, but like all coaches.
- 1:29:16[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, these are the terms that your fan base doesn't like.
- 1:29:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:29:21[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, don't use these.
- 1:29:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:29:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:29:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:29:25[SPEAKER_02]: And close.
- 1:29:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's definitely close.
- 1:29:28[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to take the word close out of the vocabulary.
- 1:29:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:29:31[SPEAKER_01]: Whether or not you're right is beside the point, people don't want even if you were close.
- 1:29:35[SPEAKER_01]: People don't want to hear it.
- 1:29:36[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 1:29:37[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:29:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, all right, let's get a voicemail from Breck.
- 1:29:40[SPEAKER_09]: This is Greg from DC having called a long time, but what was that?
- 1:29:47[SPEAKER_09]: I am so angry, how do we not get an out of bounds there?
- 1:29:51[SPEAKER_09]: If you're just getting over time right now, can't believe I'm watching.
- 1:29:56[SPEAKER_09]: Oh man, love you guys.
- 1:29:57[SPEAKER_09]: I can't believe
- 1:30:00[SPEAKER_09]: That we just lost an element of all that way, that, all right, I'm on the next year.
- 1:30:08[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for the call Greg, we love you too.
- 1:30:10[SPEAKER_01]: And we love Sean from beautiful Austin, Texas.
- 1:30:14[SPEAKER_01]: We love Sean from beautiful Austin, Texas.
- 1:30:17[SPEAKER_01]: He said we don't, we love him enough and we love him.
- 1:30:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:30:21[SPEAKER_01]: But no, we love you too, Greg.
- 1:30:22[SPEAKER_02]: Greg sounds exactly like I said.
- 1:30:24[SPEAKER_01]: I've been thinking about it.
- 1:30:25[SPEAKER_01]: Mine is a big F off, but yes.
- 1:30:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:28[SPEAKER_01]: Which, of course, leads me to bring up one thing.
- 1:30:31[SPEAKER_01]: I love going through,
- 1:30:37[SPEAKER_01]: your rewatches sometimes.
- 1:30:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I need to make drops out of those things.
- 1:30:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I did that for two things, even though I feel like we could have done more.
- 1:30:45[SPEAKER_01]: But we have, we have this one, which could be handy.
- 1:30:49[SPEAKER_10]: I think I just died in what to have.
- 1:30:51[SPEAKER_10]: That one's going to be good.
- 1:30:53[SPEAKER_02]: That was about, uh, Jane Richardson's one-handed OBJ style catch in the corner of the
- 1:31:05[SPEAKER_01]: Fantastic.
- 1:31:10[SPEAKER_02]: My favorite thing about that play, which literally sent me to heaven, is that as soon as I told the ball being thrown in that direction I was just like it did like a little sigh like I know because I just didn't want to see another fade and then he caught it and I did like a very different like No, I'm gonna be self-centered.
- 1:31:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think I was that's part of that that you did because I'm like I think he caught it
- 1:31:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's like one of those.
- 1:31:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think fly ball caught.
- 1:31:47[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 1:31:47[SPEAKER_06]: Kenny Cole.
- 1:31:48[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, I can't believe USC lost four games.
- 1:31:51[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, wait.
- 1:31:53[SPEAKER_07]: I easily believe that.
- 1:31:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's so good.
- 1:31:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's so good.
- 1:32:01[SPEAKER_01]: We've got to add that to the intro.
- 1:32:03[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get a dead.
- 1:32:05[SPEAKER_08]: Hey, Reina Troy, it's Dan called from Valley Village.
- 1:32:08[SPEAKER_08]: My son and I just walked back.
- 1:32:11[SPEAKER_08]: for hotel rooms from the Alamo dome, where we witness firsthand the utter meltdown of USC, and the fact is that this team that we watched tonight for some reason just didn't want it.
- 1:32:28[SPEAKER_08]: and TCU wanted it more.
- 1:32:29[SPEAKER_08]: You could see it and seeing it in the stadium, you could actually feel it with the crowd.
- 1:32:36[SPEAKER_08]: It was that they wanted it more.
- 1:32:37[SPEAKER_08]: It doesn't make the loss any less frustrating.
- 1:32:41[SPEAKER_08]: And then even my kid had this, he kept saying to me on the way back to the hotel and he kept saying this.
- 1:32:56[SPEAKER_08]: E.C.
- 1:32:56[SPEAKER_08]: bars, that's their new name.
- 1:32:58[SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, you guys are still the best.
- 1:33:01[SPEAKER_08]: I love you.
- 1:33:02[SPEAKER_08]: Bye, Dawn.
- 1:33:04[SPEAKER_08]: You guys, too.
- 1:33:06[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks, Dan.
- 1:33:07[SPEAKER_01]: We love you, too.
- 1:33:10[SPEAKER_00]: You really know how to tackle.
- 1:33:13[SPEAKER_01]: That is, that will be the main step.
- 1:33:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 1:33:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know how to tackle.
- 1:33:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think that should be a main-state drop.
- 1:33:20[SPEAKER_02]: I think that needs to get added to the intro.
- 1:33:25[SPEAKER_01]: We will put that's a good call.
- 1:33:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think we do.
- 1:33:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's this is this is the intro now.
- 1:33:31[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, like what can I just win a game?
- 1:33:35[SPEAKER_06]: Beautiful you see lost four games away.
- 1:33:42[SPEAKER_07]: I easily believe that
- 1:33:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's new intro.
- 1:33:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, oh, oh in there.
- 1:33:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, all right.
- 1:33:51[SPEAKER_01]: We got another call from Dan.
- 1:33:52[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get to in a minute, but email from Tom I might go to Lisa.
- 1:33:55[SPEAKER_01]: I understand Alicia's points.
- 1:33:57[SPEAKER_01]: Why she believes the blameful squarely on Notre Dame for the rivalry ending from what I've seen in the court of public opinion is that Notre Dame is simply asking for the game.
- 1:34:05[SPEAKER_01]: Scheduling to continue as is and S.C. brought this on themselves by blowing up the pack 12 and going into the big 10 Granted, I'm not surprised that this narrative from the RCFB crowd as U.S.A. is always generally the villain there It can feel like the situation S.C. finds itself in was self-inflicted I'd be curious to hear your thoughts slash
- 1:34:27[SPEAKER_01]: uh... opinion slash rebuttals on that line of thinking fight on happy holidays time in the came in island's bs i'm so glad don't have a ready to count otherwise i'd be too tempted to waste time arguing on the internet arguing on the internet i would do that right who who who who who also time yeah i i
- 1:34:46[SPEAKER_01]: I believe you you definitely don't have a reddit account when you're writing rcfb eventually what we were saying there like You absolutely there's no way you would know the tenor of rcfb without having to count I mean fully by by your your take here Tom but um At least we we got a call from Dan I want to get to that right now to not to take anything away from Tom's email but both of them both
- 1:35:13[SPEAKER_01]: Dan's calls also about Notre Dame.
- 1:35:15[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so this way we can talk about both of those things together not step on on a neat talking point here.
- 1:35:22[SPEAKER_08]: Okay.
- 1:35:22[SPEAKER_08]: Okay.
- 1:35:23[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, wrong one.
- 1:35:23[SPEAKER_08]: Hey, Reina Troy, Dan's Valley Village.
- 1:35:26[SPEAKER_08]: I want to touch on the Notre Dame SC rivalry ending.
- 1:35:30[SPEAKER_08]: And I want to give a maybe slightly different interpretation or thought of what you both have said.
- 1:35:35[SPEAKER_08]: First and foremost, the ending of the rivalry may not be for a bad day.
- 1:35:39[SPEAKER_08]: Um, let's, did credit both of us do.
- 1:35:42[SPEAKER_08]: You have to see it's not looked particularly great.
- 1:35:44[SPEAKER_08]: I guess that's the other day.
- 1:35:46[SPEAKER_08]: So, that blemish that it happened over the last few years, maybe a good thing that we take off our, our record, um, assuming everything remained comfy.
- 1:35:57[SPEAKER_08]: That's one, two, what I take really issue with.
- 1:36:01[SPEAKER_08]: The fact that it seems that Notre Dame was playing Fordy chess.
- 1:36:05[SPEAKER_08]: Well, FC was playing checkers.
- 1:36:10[SPEAKER_08]: or was in talks to get this automatic entry into the college football playoff at 12.
- 1:36:17[SPEAKER_08]: Then that means they had these conversations for a longer period of time.
- 1:36:21[SPEAKER_08]: And S.E.
- 1:36:21[SPEAKER_08]: was not aware of that or was caught off guard.
- 1:36:24[SPEAKER_08]: And that's the fault of S.E.E.E.I think S.E.
- 1:36:26[SPEAKER_08]: should have been planning their own plan.
- 1:36:29[SPEAKER_08]: Be not just the team, the schedule and place and building if that was happening.
- 1:36:32[SPEAKER_08]: But they should have had their own thing to announce that would have been just as good as replacing
- 1:36:39[SPEAKER_08]: And that's second.
- 1:36:42[SPEAKER_08]: And third, finally, we live in a world where there's so much time to change in a college football class.
- 1:36:48[SPEAKER_08]: It could be refreshing to try something new.
- 1:36:51[SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, fight on.
- 1:36:53[SPEAKER_08]: Love you guys.
- 1:36:54[SPEAKER_08]: Be at the Hornets, perhaps.
- 1:36:56[SPEAKER_01]: But that at all, of course, we know we're that.
- 1:36:58[SPEAKER_01]: We know in that call came from when that was yet.
- 1:37:01[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks, Dan, we love you too.
- 1:37:04[SPEAKER_01]: OK, let's go to, we'll try to take these point by point.
- 1:37:09[SPEAKER_01]: Tom's point about your thoughts about the quarter public opinion stuff.
- 1:37:18[SPEAKER_02]: Well, um,
- 1:37:21[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I think they'll save my SC brought this on themselves.
- 1:37:25[SPEAKER_02]: I do.
- 1:37:26[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that USC brought them on themselves and I'll tell you why it has everything to do with the initial messaging because Notre Dame got out front of this and Notre Dame had their coach and their AD and everybody on their side saying anytime anywhere any place we want to play USC.
- 1:37:44[SPEAKER_02]: They had the messaging from the gecko.
- 1:37:46[SPEAKER_02]: USC
- 1:37:48[SPEAKER_02]: had Lincoln Riley talking circles around it until he finally said straight up that he wanted to play Notre Dame, U.S.E has been sort of like Heming and Hoying about, you know, never just coming straight out and declaratively saying we want to play Notre Dame from the get go, U.S.E lost the, lost the battle public opinion.
- 1:38:10[SPEAKER_02]: It was already done when that happened.
- 1:38:13[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing else that U.S.E could do after the fact was going to
- 1:38:18[SPEAKER_02]: flip the narrative.
- 1:38:19[SPEAKER_02]: So in that sense, yeah, U.S. he screwed up because I mean, and I said this at the time, the moment the first scuddle blood about the the rivalry potentially not being renewed, U.S. he should have been out front talking about how much they wanted to continue the rivalry, just just straight up, but they let Notre Dame control that narrative for like a month
- 1:38:45[SPEAKER_02]: responded with the words that should have been said on day one.
- 1:38:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:38:49[SPEAKER_02]: Um, the other, the, okay.
- 1:38:51[SPEAKER_02]: So the, the, the, the, the U.S.
- 1:38:53[SPEAKER_02]: He brought this on themselves thing.
- 1:38:55[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I, that one is, I little more, I really for me because U.S.
- 1:39:00[SPEAKER_02]: He didn't blow up the pack 12 to go to the big 10.
- 1:39:04[SPEAKER_02]: U.S.
- 1:39:04[SPEAKER_02]: He wants the big 10 because the pack 12 was not making as much money as the big 10.
- 1:39:08[SPEAKER_02]: U.S.
- 1:39:08[SPEAKER_02]: He's gold by going to the big 10 was simply to make more money.
- 1:39:12[SPEAKER_02]: like it's it's very very simple and USC is making that money but but
- 1:39:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, how did they do that?
- 1:39:19[SPEAKER_01]: They did that by blowing up.
- 1:39:20[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, but what I'm saying is USC, USC going to the big ten was about making more money for USC.
- 1:39:27[SPEAKER_02]: USC is a complex that goal of making the past 12 blew up because Oregon and Washington decided to leave it.
- 1:39:33[SPEAKER_02]: USC and UCLA could have left it and Oregon and Washington could have run the show and the fact 12 would have existed.
- 1:39:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but Oregon and Washington also wanted the money that the big ten wanted and so they also left.
- 1:39:48[SPEAKER_02]: No, but they still had a choice to not leave and to keep the Pact 12 alive.
- 1:39:54[SPEAKER_02]: In the end, the Pact 12 led itself all behind by being mismanaged for a decade and more.
- 1:40:00[SPEAKER_02]: The Pact 12 ended up in a position where the Big 10 and the SEC were very clearly consolidating all of the power and college football and schools like Texas and Oklahoma and USC and others were seeing the writing on the wall.
- 1:40:14[SPEAKER_02]: and saying screw it.
- 1:40:16[SPEAKER_02]: We need to go now before we get left behind.
- 1:40:19[SPEAKER_02]: I think people forget that, like people don't talk about Texas and Oklahoma killing the big 12, because the big 12 decided to keep itself alive, where the packed 12 decided not to.
- 1:40:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I think this is the biggest indictment of the packed 12, is that they lost.
- 1:40:36[SPEAKER_01]: to the big 12.
- 1:40:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:40:39[SPEAKER_01]: And they did it while having all of the leverage in their favor, because in 2022 or whatever that was, everything was trending towards the big 12 no longer existing.
- 1:40:56[SPEAKER_01]: Everything was trending that way.
- 1:40:58[SPEAKER_01]: It looked like that's where it was going.
- 1:41:00[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma
- 1:41:05[SPEAKER_01]: that's where it was looking like it was going to be and the pack 12 was sort of going to avoid having all of the egg on its face.
- 1:41:14[SPEAKER_01]: If you can pick up the pieces of the big 12 as sort of a consolation for losing out on S.C. and UCLA and eventually Oregon and Washington.
- 1:41:23[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you keep Oregon and Washington if you grab all those other schools.
- 1:41:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:41:28[SPEAKER_01]: But they they fumbled that back at the
- 1:41:32[SPEAKER_01]: S.C. has to live with people thinking that they blew up the big 12 because they left because that's how it looks.
- 1:41:38[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think Sean, you only have yourself to blame Sean for beautiful Austin, well, I guess this is the question, Sean from beautiful Austin, Texas brings up a really good point.
- 1:41:46[SPEAKER_02]: Am I the only one that leans into USC killed the Pact 12, what loyalty does USC owe the Pact 12 at all?
- 1:41:51[SPEAKER_02]: Where were the Pact 12 when the incidentally came for us?
- 1:41:53[SPEAKER_02]: They were picking our pockets for players.
- 1:41:55[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't, like, USC should not apologize for killing the Pact 12 because USC left the Pact 12 to get the money from the Big 10 and the power from the Big 10.
- 1:42:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:42:06[SPEAKER_02]: It was not USC's job to keep the Pact 12 alive.
- 1:42:09[SPEAKER_02]: The Pact 12 was not, was not, was never, like, the Big 12.
- 1:42:14[SPEAKER_02]: catered to Texas in every single way.
- 1:42:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:42:18[SPEAKER_02]: USC never got that kind of pit catering from the packed 12 did I want the packed 12 to remain in place?
- 1:42:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, did I want USC to remain in the packed 12?
- 1:42:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but like that's sent I'm 100 that was sentiment sentiment reality on my on my part.
- 1:42:31[SPEAKER_02]: So USC wanting to go have the resources that teams in the Big Ten have was a perfectly reasonable approach if you take sentimentality out of it, which you kind of have to do in a multi-billion dollar business.
- 1:42:44[SPEAKER_02]: All of that, all of that being the case.
- 1:42:47[SPEAKER_02]: So again, I don't think that like this is why I roll my eyes at the USC blue of the packed 12 and went to the Big Ten and now they're now they're bitching about it or whatever.
- 1:42:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's like,
- 1:42:55[SPEAKER_02]: Okay fine, but like the blowing up of the pack 12 was a much more complicated thing and the scheduling in the big 12 in the big 10 doesn't have a lot to do with that because USC was very likely to Ditch noted aim at this point anyways because of the way that the Okay The
- 1:43:16[SPEAKER_01]: trying to figure out how to put this here.
- 1:43:19[SPEAKER_01]: Because I thought I'd bring in COVID into it, but I'm not going to do it because I think that complicates the analogy's success here.
- 1:43:26[SPEAKER_01]: The Pact 12 was an elderly person who was could be placed in hospice.
- 1:43:36[SPEAKER_01]: And more so, S.C. put them in hospice.
- 1:43:43[SPEAKER_01]: And they had a ventilator to stay alive in hospice.
- 1:43:50[SPEAKER_01]: And they unplugged their own ventilator.
- 1:43:53[SPEAKER_01]: So like, like, yeah, I don't know why, why did S.E.
- 1:43:59[SPEAKER_01]: put them in hospice because they had cancer.
- 1:44:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean, but yeah, like the thing is that like the Pac-12 kill itself and S.C. played a role in it and S.C. played a role in it because the Pac-12 didn't give anybody everybody the same amount of money the other conferences did everybody acted in their own interest yes with the exception of the Pac-12 with screwed it up
- 1:44:22[SPEAKER_01]: more than anything.
- 1:44:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:44:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think S.C.'s role in here is understandable, but also you have to understand that you're the bad guy in the court of public opinion.
- 1:44:29[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yes.
- 1:44:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:44:30[SPEAKER_02]: So USC is the bad guy in the court of public opinion and their response will for blowing up the pack 12.
- 1:44:36[SPEAKER_02]: And then the Notre Dame thing comes out and Notre Dame is narratively saying all the right things and USC is silent.
- 1:44:43[SPEAKER_02]: That.
- 1:44:43[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, USC put this on themselves.
- 1:44:47[SPEAKER_02]: Um,
- 1:44:47[SPEAKER_02]: I will also say that from the the court of public opinion about the game, Notre Dame just wanting to keep the schedule as is, and USC itself inflicting this, I mean, in a lot of ways, yes, yes, because USC could have been put a kept playing the damn game as is.
- 1:45:05[SPEAKER_02]: But USC decided to act in its own interest and want to make it easier on themselves, which is what I've explained that I understand USC wanting to do that.
- 1:45:15[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's reasonable from USC's perspective to want to do that, and that it was a reasonable ask of Notre Dame.
- 1:45:21[SPEAKER_02]: And if Notre Dame really wanted the rivalry to continue, the rivalry could have continued.
- 1:45:26[SPEAKER_02]: This is where I turned back to what Dan was saying because to me, what I don't like about any of this is that the narrative is that USC was trying to dodge Notre Dame because USC kept losing to Notre Dame and I hate that narrative because it brings to true.
- 1:45:47[SPEAKER_02]: It rings way too true because if USC was in the run that they had with Pete Carroll and beating Notre Dame every year for a decade, then the need to change the scheduling of the of the big 10 would not have been something that USC was looking that that closely at, which is again to to my point.
- 1:46:08[SPEAKER_01]: Everything always comes back to winning.
- 1:46:09[SPEAKER_02]: which is which is what comes back to Dan talking about maybe this is a good thing because USC hasn't looked good against Notre Dame in the past few years and so not having to to do that anymore is going to be a good thing for USC.
- 1:46:21[SPEAKER_02]: My whole point on this the entire time the reason I was so mad at USC the moment that this came out from the the beginning of the rumors not even just the the official situation is if USC looks bad against Notre Dame
- 1:46:37[SPEAKER_02]: then that is a very clear sign that USC is not as good as they need to be.
- 1:46:42[SPEAKER_02]: This is why I loved having the Notre Dame game.
- 1:46:47[SPEAKER_02]: Because it's a litmus test every single year.
- 1:46:49[SPEAKER_02]: If USC is good, if USC is competitive at the levels that they need to be, then the Notre Dame game is not a detriment ever.
- 1:46:58[SPEAKER_02]: It was not a detriment during the Pete Carroll era, because USC was winning those games, because USC was as good as it was meant to be.
- 1:47:06[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so like in that sense, I think, I think like I'm of two minds where I understand the calculation that USC is doing here, I just really hate it because it's, it is a cowardly calculation and it is trying to make things easier on themselves.
- 1:47:26[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I put this, I put my, my analogy that I put on Twitter that I think it perfectly sums up.
- 1:47:33[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I've said it on the podcast, but perfectly sums up my feelings on this.
- 1:47:37[SPEAKER_02]: I high-tech a supi in October.
- 1:47:39[SPEAKER_02]: I did the back-right-contrip in Happens.
- 1:47:41[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 1:47:43[SPEAKER_02]: It is a 10-mile hike in and a 10-mile hike out.
- 1:47:47[SPEAKER_02]: And if you're going to the campground, you have three choices.
- 1:47:50[SPEAKER_02]: you can pack in your stuff yourself, which means in my case like carrying 30, 35 pounds, including my own water and all that kind of stuff, uh, for 10 miles in and then 10 miles out.
- 1:48:02[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, the other option is to have a supy, uh, the the tribe offers, um, the haves who tribe offers,
- 1:48:09[SPEAKER_02]: pack meals.
- 1:48:10[SPEAKER_02]: So you can pay to have the pack meals bring your gear down and you can make it just you can just carry your water the 10 miles and and be much less weighed down.
- 1:48:22[SPEAKER_02]: It makes your hike a lot easier.
- 1:48:24[SPEAKER_02]: The third option you can do is fly in on a helicopter which means you don't even have to hike.
- 1:48:30[SPEAKER_02]: You basically have to hike the three quarters of a mile from the helicopter pad to the
- 1:48:37[SPEAKER_02]: Do I understand why people choose to hire the packmules or why people choose to take the helicopter?
- 1:48:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I do.
- 1:48:48[SPEAKER_02]: did I insist upon carrying my own gear for love of the game because, as a backpacker, as somebody who backpacks in under less sort of structured systems, you carry your gear.
- 1:49:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's what backpacking is, you carry your own gear.
- 1:49:10[SPEAKER_02]: That's part of the challenge and achievement of backpacking.
- 1:49:12[SPEAKER_02]: So, for me, the challenge and achievement of backpacking means you just carry your own gear and you deal with the misery.
- 1:49:22[SPEAKER_02]: You asc decided to use the packmills.
- 1:49:26[SPEAKER_02]: Or to ask to use the packmills.
- 1:49:28[SPEAKER_02]: I get it.
- 1:49:30[SPEAKER_02]: Do I look down on them slightly for that?
- 1:49:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:49:32[SPEAKER_02]: I do.
- 1:49:32[SPEAKER_02]: Do I think I'm superior to them for carrying my own gear?
- 1:49:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:49:37[SPEAKER_02]: I do.
- 1:49:38[SPEAKER_02]: But in the end, they wanted to hire the pack meals and when they got to the trailhead, they found out that somebody had signed them up for the helicopter.
- 1:49:46[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's important to mention here that like,
- 1:49:51[SPEAKER_01]: all the other team that they're competing against.
- 1:49:54[SPEAKER_02]: Are you using the fact that you're using the fact that somebody on Twitter like made the point of like, yeah, but if it was a race from the trailhead to the campground, which it kind of is because getting to the campground earlier means you get your choice of the open camp of the open spots.
- 1:50:08[SPEAKER_02]: But if it was a race and everybody else was was not caring 30 pounds and you were caring 30 pounds.
- 1:50:14[SPEAKER_02]: And there was a prize at the end would you still care the 30 pounds?
- 1:50:21[SPEAKER_01]: I just think that it's reasonable to want that it's reasonable to not like it.
- 1:50:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it's yes.
- 1:50:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's the it's three speech.
- 1:50:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:50:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you can say whatever you want.
- 1:50:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah You also are free to hear whatever I have to say as a rebuttal right.
- 1:50:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's how it works.
- 1:50:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, um
- 1:50:41[SPEAKER_01]: the the other thing to to go to dance point about like SC not playing 40 tests because they had to react to the to note that I'm getting the the handshake agreement with be by you with will not just be where you but like with the committee.
- 1:50:57[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah yeah.
- 1:50:59[SPEAKER_01]: I will say like I don't know that that will like the idea that that was being worked on I don't know like
- 1:51:11[SPEAKER_01]: They had that agreement with the BCS.
- 1:51:12[SPEAKER_01]: That agreement existed with the BCS.
- 1:51:15[SPEAKER_01]: If Notre Dame went 10 and 2, if they had 10 wins, they were automatically included in the BCS.
- 1:51:22[SPEAKER_01]: It was, Notre Dame equivalent of being a conference champion was having 10 wins.
- 1:51:28[SPEAKER_01]: And so therefore, they would be one of the at large BCS teams.
- 1:51:32[SPEAKER_01]: That was their handshake agreement with the BCS.
- 1:51:35[SPEAKER_01]: And that existed, and nobody really had issue with it.
- 1:51:42[SPEAKER_01]: as he could have been aware that that was a possibility because there was already precedents of that kind of thing before.
- 1:51:49[SPEAKER_01]: Sure, I also think that that comes up because they got snubbed and I don't know that Notre Dame is seeking out or getting that sort of handshake agreement.
- 1:52:04[SPEAKER_01]: re-instituted in this landscape of call triple, if it wasn't for the snub, and if it wasn't for how reactionary the call triple world is about literally everything with the playoff.
- 1:52:20[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know that SD could have anticipated that that thing was going to be a thing.
- 1:52:26[SPEAKER_01]: I also think that SD used it as a,
- 1:52:29[SPEAKER_01]: as a bargaining chip at the end, whether it be in the court of public opinion or with Notre Dame themselves.
- 1:52:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:52:37[SPEAKER_01]: Rather than like not reacting to it quick enough.
- 1:52:41[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, either way, the Joe and the Chats as S.C. needs a better publicist.
- 1:52:48[SPEAKER_01]: They do.
- 1:52:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know what the best publicist is?
- 1:52:51[SPEAKER_01]: The wind.
- 1:52:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 1:52:53[SPEAKER_01]: If you're winning games, you're not going to get negative with the doubt, right?
- 1:52:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like the thing about Lincoln Riley, too, is like the narrative is about out there for literally years that Lincoln Riley ducks competition and it comes from him leaving Oklahoma for SC
- 1:53:16[SPEAKER_01]: after it came out that Oklahoma was going to the SEC so whether or not it was true or not is beside the point well any cancel the Ole Miss series when he got to USC yeah it's just the narrative is working against you highly very much that there's there's a like
- 1:53:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think there was valid reason for him to go to SC.
- 1:53:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's valid reason for him to not do the old miss game.
- 1:53:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's valid reason to get another date.
- 1:53:42[SPEAKER_01]: I see a game.
- 1:53:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but when you stack all these things on top of each other and you you're not winning.
- 1:53:50[SPEAKER_01]: You're not winning.
- 1:53:53[SPEAKER_01]: The court of public opinion is going to be the most cynical thing possible, and so no one's going to back you up there.
- 1:54:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:54:01[SPEAKER_01]: And so you just have to accept that.
- 1:54:03[SPEAKER_01]: So if you want a better publicist win, because that's the best publicist in the world is the win call.
- 1:54:09[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 1:54:10[SPEAKER_02]: win games, which is again, what I'm sort of getting out with everything around the Notre Dame game.
- 1:54:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's like all of U.S. he's troubles around the Notre Dame game would not be here if U.S. he won more often.
- 1:54:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:54:21[SPEAKER_02]: And U.S. he not winning more often in this
- 1:54:25[SPEAKER_02]: In this part of the series because USC is one often plenty of times over the course of the series the series has gone back and forth It usually is one team dominating it for a stretch and then the other team not And then then it eventually flipped back, which is why I'm kind of also frustrated that these decisions are being made when USC is in the middle of a sort of losing streak where Traditionally the rival reflects and you know USC is just a couple away from flipping it that way so I don't know it's it's all just
- 1:54:54[SPEAKER_02]: I hear what I'll say.
- 1:54:56[SPEAKER_02]: Here's what I'll say.
- 1:54:59[SPEAKER_02]: I think my overwriting frustration here is that I think USC is in the right in a lot of different areas, while also being in the wrong, because I will admit straight up, I do believe that the primary driver of all of this is linking, Lincoln Riley wanting the path to his success being as smooth as possible.
- 1:55:22[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that is the case, and that means he's willing to, I guarantee you he'll be willing to schedule an FCS team.
- 1:55:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's willing to not have to play this rivalry that's annoying.
- 1:55:35[SPEAKER_02]: He's willing to put USC in a scheduling position where they only play G5s and weak teams out of conference.
- 1:55:43[SPEAKER_02]: He's willing to do all of those things because that's what he wants.
- 1:55:47[SPEAKER_02]: He wants the path to be as smooth as possible.
- 1:55:52[SPEAKER_01]: So but again, that's but it's not a meta.
- 1:55:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's the meta.
- 1:55:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's the meta.
- 1:55:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's how we'll miss got into the playoff Yes, that's the that's what the SEC I'm reluctant to say that's what the SEC does But it is because of the gate games thing
- 1:56:10[SPEAKER_01]: The SEC is only played eight conference games and they're reluctant to go to the nine because Kirby smart literally said if we go to nine there's going to be you know seven more conference losses in in the league which is I know what we were saying all the time in the package all the time everyone else is doing jackass like you know what I mean like but the SEC game the system and it's game the system in part because they get the cake in it too because they've kept all the ACC rivals
- 1:56:37[SPEAKER_01]: Florida, Florida State South Carolina Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, but how long do those survive?
- 1:56:47[SPEAKER_02]: The moment that teams like Georgia play a really tough schedule and then it's it's a very good question.
- 1:56:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's also do those things keep surviving if Georgia was losing the Georgia Tech every year?
- 1:57:03[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, South Carolina loses the Clemson fairly often, but like, it's a little bit different.
- 1:57:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, or a Florida Florida state, like Florida is in the middle of a rebuild.
- 1:57:15[SPEAKER_02]: They're trying to find the right guy to lead them to the promise land, whatever, like, is it in Florida's best interest to play Florida State every year?
- 1:57:23[SPEAKER_02]: It isn't.
- 1:57:24[SPEAKER_02]: They should get rid of that game, except the rivalries matter and you should keep the rivalries because they matter and you should figure out how to win those games instead of deciding like, well, it's inconvenient.
- 1:57:35[SPEAKER_01]: So let's just let it go, but it's more it's less of an issue if you're only playing any conference games.
- 1:57:42[SPEAKER_02]: So it's going to be more of an issue now.
- 1:57:45[SPEAKER_02]: It is.
- 1:57:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I totally, I totally think that you should, the invisible hand, if you will, is pushing you to make the path as easy as you can and straight as you can to get into the playoff.
- 1:58:06[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't mean that you have to like it, doesn't mean that you have to respect it all.
- 1:58:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's the, doesn't mean that the court of opinion will back you, any of those things.
- 1:58:15[SPEAKER_02]: which means and that's why it all just comes down to winning if you win games then who cares what the court of the public opinion that's where i'm at two is that like i do not care what the court of the public opinion things about u.s.e.
- 1:58:28[SPEAKER_02]: on this i care what i think about u.s.e.
- 1:58:30[SPEAKER_02]: on this and and like i said like i care that i look at this i look at the u.s.e.
- 1:58:35[SPEAKER_02]: that is currently in place and i care that i look at it and say this u.s.e.
- 1:58:43[SPEAKER_01]: uh...
- 1:58:48[SPEAKER_02]: No, I just see, I see that I am not as will.
- 1:58:51[SPEAKER_02]: If people wanted to call the Pete Carallera USC soft, I would draw my weapon and charge it them because I knew for a fact USC wasn't soft.
- 1:59:03[SPEAKER_02]: When people say that USC is soft now, I sit back and I stay out of it because I don't know that I fully believe that they aren't.
- 1:59:18[SPEAKER_01]: there's not a lot of tangible evidence to argue your case in part because wind column kind of things and giving up three hundred yards another day and and not wanting to play another day all those things like i like you said i think s c is a lot of valid reasons to to to do the things that they're there and i think that they are justified to do a lot of the things that they've done
- 1:59:44[SPEAKER_01]: doesn't mean that you'd have to like it doesn't mean that I have to like it you have to like it anybody has to like it in court of public opinion has to like it bones of the chances public opinion ship to another day when they can plan about missing the playoffs then bailing their bold game and even more when it came out to the head of side deal with CFP.
- 2:00:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, Notre Dame's public opinion is wild.
- 2:00:03[SPEAKER_02]: Notre Dame is also the villain here.
- 2:00:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, no, make no mistake.
- 2:00:06[SPEAKER_01]: This is why I think it's ridiculous that Notre Dame fans are blaming
- 2:00:14[SPEAKER_01]: or blaming Notre Dame.
- 2:00:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like the reality is, if this was an M.I.D.
- 2:00:19[SPEAKER_01]: asshole situation, it's an M.I.D.
- 2:00:21[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody sucks here.
- 2:00:23[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody's like, you're both the blame for why the rivalry doesn't exist.
- 2:00:26[SPEAKER_01]: You're both docking each other.
- 2:00:29[SPEAKER_01]: So stop pretending that you are wholeier than now than the other one.
- 2:00:33[SPEAKER_01]: You're both docking each other.
- 2:00:35[SPEAKER_01]: So let's get over that part of it.
- 2:00:38[SPEAKER_01]: Also, you are both evil empires in the history of college, Ripple.
- 2:00:42[SPEAKER_01]: So the court of public opinion is not going to back your side anyways, and Notre Dame, especially the court of the public opinion stuff, the last month is insane to me, because when they got stumped from the playoff, they were in the sympathetic victim seat, they were, they would people would have been on their side, and
- 2:01:05[SPEAKER_01]: every nobody really thought that they should not be in the playoff there would have been a much bigger conversation about alabama getting blown out by indiana and noted in it's not a name hadn't screwed himself yet they were you know i i think at the time you can even say that like you know people like mark is freeman like nother name is like a bull uh... in from the national perspective like not name just got snout poor little nother name and then all of a sudden
- 2:01:35[SPEAKER_01]: They wind about it to a point of like, no, that's you, like what, what are you?
- 2:01:40[SPEAKER_01]: winning your bull game and then bitching about ESPN's ratings and doing all these things.
- 2:01:47[SPEAKER_02]: Trying to pound their chest together and say that they're going to cost ESPN $50 million and then after the PopTarts Bowl errors, it comes out that the PopTarts Bowl was at all ESPN ratings were up for the for the bull season.
- 2:02:01[SPEAKER_02]: The PopTarts Bowl was the top rated non CFP bull game and outright out rated multiple CFP games.
- 2:02:10[SPEAKER_02]: And the CFP games themselves are all up to massive, massive numbers.
- 2:02:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you tried to act like you were getting one over on ESPN who is laughing all the way to the bank.
- 2:02:23[SPEAKER_01]: But as if it wouldn't have been hilarious if father, father, father, what's a, what's a, can't you shivon here?
- 2:02:36[SPEAKER_01]: What's a good Irish name?
- 2:02:39[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you could just say Father Moro, who found it holy cross.
- 2:02:44[SPEAKER_02]: Patrick?
- 2:02:45[SPEAKER_02]: Father Patrick there.
- 2:02:47[SPEAKER_01]: Father Patrick is like in a very, you know, a thick Boston accents or an Irish accent, whatever it is, which I'm not going to do because I don't want to butcher it.
- 2:02:58[SPEAKER_01]: Being like, thank you for coming.
- 2:03:01[SPEAKER_01]: Remember we have, we have donuts in the hall, and also be sure to turn into the pop tart bowl.
- 2:03:09[SPEAKER_01]: to watch our fighting Irish play like wouldn't that that would have been hilarious the jacks of position of Notre Dame and poptarts yes what have been great what have been great but alas alas really know how to tackle yeah and alas I think I just died in what to have and yeah all right we're gonna end there we've we've been on for over two hours
- 2:03:36[SPEAKER_01]: This is my sister's father John Misty that works too.
- 2:03:39[SPEAKER_02]: We've got a couple more shoot.
- 2:03:41[SPEAKER_01]: We have more you Man, I mean these one won't take a look at Tony says my goal is to say this is Tony from the NRPA Just one of us both of you and your families a happy and safe new year fight on.
- 2:03:51[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you Tony We we wish that right back to you.
- 2:03:54[SPEAKER_01]: We wish you had a happy and safe new year Hopefully you didn't well you're from the NRPA.
- 2:04:00[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully you didn't go to the the Brooklyn Bridge.
- 2:04:03[SPEAKER_02]: Do you know about that?
- 2:04:05[SPEAKER_02]: I keep hearing your reference to it now.
- 2:04:07[SPEAKER_01]: I realize I don't know what it was you get when we look at my TikToks tonight You're gonna enjoy them.
- 2:04:12[SPEAKER_01]: I got a bunch of them.

- 2:04:22[SPEAKER_01]: and may enjoy tuning in to all of the watch-along streams during the season.
- 2:04:26[SPEAKER_01]: This last section just reinforces all the views we have at the coaching staff.
- 2:04:29[SPEAKER_01]: Can't imagine, they're roster will be a lesser... Can't imagine there will be a lesser hot seat in college football than Lincoln Riles.
- 2:04:37[SPEAKER_01]: Third and 20 it's going to be drilled into my mind until the start of next season.
- 2:04:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's then certainly Mac.
- 2:04:43[SPEAKER_01]: Third and 20.
- 2:04:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, thank you, Mack.
- 2:04:46[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for tuning in and for the really nice email.
- 2:04:49[SPEAKER_02]: But yes, I close my eyes and have nightmares in 3rd and 20s over late over all of them.
- 2:04:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:05:00[SPEAKER_01]: What was that that Packers 4th and 26 with the Eagles?
- 2:05:06[SPEAKER_01]: Remember that?
- 2:05:06[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't that Freddie Mitchell?
- 2:05:08[SPEAKER_01]: You still a legend?
- 2:05:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't.
- 2:05:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's before your time.
- 2:05:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure it happened.
- 2:05:13[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 2:05:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be back.
- 2:05:17[SPEAKER_01]: Next Monday, I guess.
- 2:05:18[SPEAKER_01]: The four o'clock.
