- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes it all.
- 0:11Starts. Right now.
- 0:16Welcome back to the Three O Take presented by IC Kick.
- 0:18This is episode 442. I'll be your host Kyle Corden.
- 0:21I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:36Breaking news, the Boston Red Sox in the most historic rivalry
- 0:45in all of baseball hit it again, have just taken down mere
- 0:51seconds ago, have taken down the the New York Yankees in a
- 0:59three-game series. They said it couldn't be done.
- 1:05They said it couldn't be done. I don't know why Nate decided to
- 1:09show up in the Yankees hat tonight because he knew they
- 1:11were taking the L but it's been done.
- 1:13The Red Sox have taken down the Yankees.
- 1:17They're headed to the World Series.
- 1:23The Boston Red Sox. We should have bet on this.
- 1:28We should have bet on this. I don't know why I didn't.
- 1:30I I I mean. I tried to ask you.
- 1:33You said you were, you were just still, you know, hurting from
- 1:38the last bet. Which is fair.
- 1:41Do you? See me?
- 1:44Look at me, dude. What do you think?
- 1:46You tell me. Ridiculous.
- 1:48Were you over it? Dude, I was over it after like
- 1:51the second the second time, which by the way, I I got called
- 1:55out. So the video or the clip that I
- 1:57pulled from last episode when we were talking about how like
- 2:01joking aside, that the Red Sox Yankees should not have been
- 2:03Sunday night Baseball and that it should have been OS Phillies.
- 2:06I took that clip, posted it and somebody on Instagram was like,
- 2:11lol, some guy dressed in all Oakland A's gear talking about
- 2:15how the Yankees and Red Sox should be Sunday Night Baseball.
- 2:18And I was like, buddy, little do you know.
- 2:22Little do you know. Little do you know that I am a
- 2:27fan of one of those teams, and I lost a bet to a guy who's a fan
- 2:30of the other team. And we both agree we're on the
- 2:32same page that there should not have been Sunday Night Baseball.
- 2:35But, you know, actually I'm kind of glad it was because, man,
- 2:39what a way to round out the weekend.
- 2:42Yeah, just enough to get me fired up.
- 2:47Well, OK, look, we're Mookie Bet the Mookie Betts news is
- 2:51headlining this thing. But I'll give you your space
- 2:54that we've been doing this ever since we started this podcast.
- 2:57This is a safe space where Red Sox, any Yankees fan, meaning
- 3:01you and myself can come here after they meet and vent any and
- 3:06all frustrations. Sometimes these these vent
- 3:09sessions are a little more elongated than others, but just
- 3:15air air your grievances. Yeah, and Happy Father's Day, by
- 3:19the way, Any fathers out there? Happy Father's Day.
- 3:21We're not fathers, so we're allowed to be pissed off today.
- 3:24At least one of us. It's a.
- 3:26Shame. Well, no, I guess he was in the
- 3:29ballpark. Rafael Dever's son, Garrett
- 3:33Cole, he, I think he is with the team now.
- 3:36You can just, you can, you can just.
- 3:39I'm giving you this time what? I'm giving you this.
- 3:42You're you're, you're allowed to have this.
- 3:44What? You're allowed.
- 3:45It was a legitimate question. You're allowed to have your your
- 3:50mid season trophy. I don't like doing this, but I
- 3:55have to out here, you said. The minutes before we hopped on,
- 3:58you said this Yankees team is not as good as the record shows.
- 4:01That's what I'm going to get into.
- 4:03It's I and and I'm not please don't.
- 4:06Everyone's going to think that I'm like the overreacting
- 4:11typical fan, but the truth is, like I, I watched the I've
- 4:14watched the I, I've maybe missed two or three games this year.
- 4:18Like I don't miss games and, and, and the Yankees team just
- 4:22isn't as good as their record shows.
- 4:24We've seen this. I've, I feel like I've seen this
- 4:26movie before. I've, I've, I've read this
- 4:29script before. It it's, it's happened.
- 4:34Historic starts, historic starting pitching.
- 4:39You're lost in the sauce of stardom and you ignore like some
- 4:43of the holes. And, and there's just like I
- 4:48said it before, I told you when we hopped on, if if a team tries
- 4:54to play the Yankees the Yankee way and the Yankee way is like,
- 5:00let's go starting pitching for starting pitching, let's go
- 5:04slugfest base to base baseball, then it'll come down to our
- 5:09bullpens and we'll see who wins. And if you play the Yankees that
- 5:13way, you'll more often than not going to lose.
- 5:15There's a few rosters out there that are, that are, I think
- 5:20better. And, and the Dodgers exposed
- 5:24this, you know, couple weeks ago, last week, it was a hey,
- 5:28we'll play your way and watch what we can do kind of thing.
- 5:33And then you see other teams that maybe don't have the same
- 5:35kind of roster that just can't hang throughout a series anyway.
- 5:39What the Red Sox exposed is the fact that, like, if you play a
- 5:43different way, if you play, you know, take that extra bag, take
- 5:48extra 90 steel bags, hit and runs bunts.
- 5:51Like if you play that aggressive, productive way, the
- 5:58Yankees cannot hang. They have holes.
- 6:02They have ways to be beaten. Then I get it, like starting
- 6:07pitching, you know, it didn't look great.
- 6:08Like Rodin's looked good for the last 6-7 starts, and then you
- 6:12know it doesn't look great here. Same with Strowman.
- 6:16But like the first base is an issue, Rizzo's an issue, DJ
- 6:20Lemahieu is an issue. The bullpen is now an issue
- 6:24because this is what Boone does every year is ready to pull the
- 6:29bullpen trigger over and over. So whatever, I'm not going to
- 6:32bore people with this. It is a venting session for me
- 6:35mostly than anyone else hearing it.
- 6:37It's just, I don't, I, I don't see it like I, I, I understand
- 6:42the numbers. I see the record being what it
- 6:44is. I just, I'm not there.
- 6:47I don't feel like it's enough. And unless Brian Cashman is
- 6:53ready to plug those holes before the deadline, I, I, I, I don't
- 7:00see the, it being a good enough roster to, to make it all the
- 7:05way. And I, I think that that is a, a
- 7:09dead philosophy anyway. We've seen it year over year.
- 7:15It's just about what team is hot and healthy when it gets to
- 7:18October, then it's less about like how dominant a roster is.
- 7:24So if they can get hot and healthy in October, I'll I'll
- 7:29eat my words. But I just overall, I don't
- 7:31know. I think I'm just becoming a
- 7:33typical depressed fan like everyone else for most teams
- 7:37that don't win often or in 15 years.
- 7:43Yeah, half my life, half my life.
- 7:46That's crazy to think about by. Yeah, hold on.
- 7:49Whoa, let's put that into perspective.
- 7:51That's a that's, that's a different way of looking at it.
- 7:53Half my life I've witnessed this garbage.
- 7:56Wow. Yeah, anyhow.
- 8:00Well, let's talk about let's talk about somebody that's
- 8:03actually good at baseball, the team that's actually good at
- 8:05baseball on some unfortunate news.
- 8:08However, joking aside, Mookie Betts, tough dude, wrist
- 8:14fracture off a 98 mile an hour heater.
- 8:18You knew right away when you saw it, it was not good, and it was
- 8:22likely going to be one of those ones that you just couldn't
- 8:25shake. Yeah.
- 8:28So as as it stands right now, the the little that we kind of
- 8:34know of the situation out indefinitely.
- 8:38You had mentioned that you had seen no timetable.
- 8:40I think that's that's all we really know at this point.
- 8:43Yeah, it's a Sunday night, everybody.
- 8:45It's June 16th at 10:30 Eastern. So you're probably going to wake
- 8:50up in the morning and listen to this and you are going to have,
- 8:53you're already going to have more updates than we have, but
- 8:56is what it is. Well, I don't, I mean, I don't
- 8:58know how much it's going to change though, because they know
- 9:01at least right now, I think we'll.
- 9:02Probably know by midweek. I think we'll have a timetable
- 9:05by midweek. Well timetable, but in in
- 9:07regards to surgery, they've already apparently ruled that
- 9:11out. So that's that's at least good
- 9:12news for for Mookie and the Dodgers.
- 9:16But you know, as one of the favourites to win the the NLMVP,
- 9:22this is certainly a blow that I don't even think the dodgers can
- 9:25afford at this point in time. Because like you're just not
- 9:30losing a you're not losing a depth piece here.
- 9:33You're not losing a, a middle of the rotation guy here.
- 9:36You're you're losing one of the best players in baseball, and
- 9:40certainly one of the best on the.
- 9:42Team and having a heck of a year.
- 9:45Not yeah, like this isn't just run-of-the-mill Mookie.
- 9:48We're talking like one of his best seasons that he's ever,
- 9:52which is saying a lot, but one of the best seasons he's ever
- 9:55put forth. You know what, we said we were
- 9:57going to be negative. In my mind, I thought I was
- 10:01going to be negative coming in. I I think I'm going to look at
- 10:04the positive out of this. I think this forces the Dodgers
- 10:07hand. I think it forces their hand to
- 10:10go get a shortstop. I think the experiment is done.
- 10:16I, I think, you know, and, and obviously like the injury didn't
- 10:20happen because of him playing shortstop.
- 10:21This could happen whether he's in right or not.
- 10:23It's not what I'm referring to. I'm just saying the fact that
- 10:26like this just forces her hand like it it, it has been barely
- 10:31average defensive production out of him at short.
- 10:38And maybe there's some good that comes out of this.
- 10:39You know what I mean? Maybe there's some good of, of
- 10:41them going and like truly filling that hole.
- 10:46I, I think Rojas is on the IL at the moment, isn't he?
- 10:51I think Rojas is out. No, I think he's in the mix to
- 10:54fill in. I'm not mistaken.
- 10:56Yeah, it Miguel Rojas. Either way, Miguel Rojas is not
- 11:00the. Answer not the answer Kike
- 11:02Hernandez not the answer obviously Gavin Lux, Chris
- 11:06Taylor like these are not a everyday write in thing.
- 11:10And even then, if we Fast forward to Mookie being back,
- 11:16are the Dodgers going to be fully comfortable putting Mookie
- 11:19at short. I'm just there's some positive
- 11:27out of this and I think if if if there's one thing to be like,
- 11:30hey, there's something the good that's going to come out of it.
- 11:33I think it is that. But even then the wrist thing is
- 11:37tough, man, because like when wrists go, you hear and it's not
- 11:44the same injury, but you hear a lot of people with the wrist
- 11:47injury that just don't ever really like fully get back to.
- 11:51We could go down the list. We go down the list of names.
- 11:55Mark DeRosa talks about it all the time on MLB Central.
- 11:58The 2nd that that wrist injury happened.
- 12:00He just never became, never got back to what he was.
- 12:04I watched it with Mark Teixeira. You saw it with Todd Frazier.
- 12:07You you see it all the time. If that wrist injury happens,
- 12:11it's hard to to come back from. So I hope, I think the hope is
- 12:17if you're a Dodger fan, go get, you're not going to replace
- 12:21Mookie numbers, but go get somebody to plug that hole.
- 12:24Play short every day so you don't have to rush him back.
- 12:29Let him take him, let him take his time.
- 12:35What do you think? I mean, I know I I just got done
- 12:38summarizing the what I would presume is the state of the
- 12:42Dodgers following this because again, that you're not, you're
- 12:44not losing a depth piece. You're not losing even
- 12:47run-of-the-mill Mookie, you're losing an.
- 12:49MVP candidate MVP. Candidate, possibly front runner
- 12:53based on who you're talking to. Like what do, what do we think
- 12:57this does for morale, for team like the Dodgers?
- 13:00Because you can sit there and say, well, this isn't a depth
- 13:03piece. This isn't run-of-the-mill
- 13:06Mookie, but on the flip side, you've got a team that is, for
- 13:14all intents and purposes, stacked.
- 13:16And again, I'm still of the belief that they can't afford to
- 13:19lose out on a guy like. Luke anybody could, and no
- 13:23roster could afford to lose him. Sure.
- 13:25But I we can, we can assume that the, the Dodgers are more,
- 13:31they're better positioned to absorb this blow.
- 13:35I agree. With that said, though, what do
- 13:38you, what do we think this does for morale at this point in the
- 13:41season? I mean, we're, we're, we're,
- 13:42we're in the middle of June now. Now knowing that we don't have a
- 13:47timetable, knowing where you're at in the standings, what the
- 13:52expectation coming into the season is, was what, what does
- 13:57this do for morale? Because I feel like that's,
- 14:00that's important as we get closer to the, you know, for
- 14:04lack of a better term, the old cliche, the dog days of summer.
- 14:06As we, as we approach that point, if it gets to that point,
- 14:10again, we don't know how long this will be.
- 14:12We don't know how long Mookie's going to be out for You.
- 14:14Can I, I think any and all baseball fans should hope that
- 14:18it's as short as possible, unless you're a Padres fan.
- 14:23Morale. Morale though.
- 14:25I don't know, I I think I think it's a roster that's that's put
- 14:33together with a lot of vets and a lot of like end goal team,
- 14:39overall performance, selflessness mentality.
- 14:47It's hard to say next, next man up, because it's like there is
- 14:50no one that's going to fill the shoes.
- 14:52But I don't know, you're just you have a lot of leaders there.
- 14:57You know what I mean? You still have a Freddy and you
- 15:01still have guys that like have been around the block.
- 15:05You got a lot of guys that have been around the block.
- 15:09So what is their cushion in the West right now?
- 15:14Without looking it up, I'm assuming it's double digits.
- 15:18Now that we got the weekend in the books, they are eight games
- 15:22up on the Padres. Padres are game under 500 right
- 15:26now heading into the week, Yeah. They're going to be fine.
- 15:30They're gonna be fine. Yeah.
- 15:34We got plenty of guys that'll step in and and figure it out.
- 15:39What's scary is that like, they're, as they start all
- 15:43coming up and like coming back and showing up.
- 15:48Like, you know, Kershaw, Muncie. I thought they had another arm.
- 15:57Didn't they have another arm? I was set to come back in like,
- 16:01August. I don't know.
- 16:04Well, they're get trickling in. Sorry, I just momentarily
- 16:10checked out 'cause I had to make sure I had.
- 16:12To no, no. No, I had, I realized as you
- 16:16were talking, I was like, oh crap, I don't have a player for
- 16:18name that player. So I had to, I had to pull up
- 16:21the the selected player's stats just just to make sure I was, I
- 16:25had them at the ready. But you were talking about arms,
- 16:30which was? There another name besides
- 16:32Kershaw. Well, Yamamoto, which we are
- 16:34going to touch on here to the 15 day IL they're getting I
- 16:38believe, though I don't think it's a corresponding move
- 16:42because I think Yamoto has already hit the shelf, but Bobby
- 16:45Miller is expected back this week.
- 16:47There we go. If if that's who you're.
- 16:48That was that's and he's on my fantasy team yeah.
- 16:51Don't know why I blanked there but it's like these pieces that
- 16:54can slowly come back and it is almost like a like a like a
- 17:01trade deadline move as each guy shows up.
- 17:05You can't say that for a lot of guys where a lot of teams given
- 17:08their situations big. Names, these are, these are like
- 17:11impactful names, you know, So they'll be all right, they'll be
- 17:16OK. But I do think this forces their
- 17:18hand a little bit more. And I know I said this, I don't
- 17:22know, probably a month ago that Willy Adamus sounded like a good
- 17:25fit. But it it just seems like the
- 17:26Brewers aren't going away. And then I think it'd be like a
- 17:30pretty big slap in the face to their fans if they did sell
- 17:35Adamus. So interesting to see what name
- 17:43will come in. Maybe, maybe this forces the
- 17:48hand, forces the issue on boba shit possibly.
- 17:54Already got a lot of blue swag, a lot of blue accessories that
- 17:59you. Can.
- 17:59Oh, no, I saw, I I was watching a few Cavin BGOABS today.
- 18:03It literally couldn't tell the difference.
- 18:06I was like, oh, Blue Jays, Dodgers, yeah, same same deal
- 18:11here. Same same gear.
- 18:12Same gear. This is, I mean, this is just
- 18:15the year of the injury. I know we have them a lot.
- 18:18It's insane. These these names are like if
- 18:23you grabbed all the all the IL names and put in like said this
- 18:27was the All Star team for the year, you'd be like, yeah, that
- 18:30makes sense. These are All Star caliber names
- 18:33going down and a lot of them like, oh.
- 18:36That's a good idea. I might put together a little
- 18:38graphic and maybe the all IL team from the duration of this
- 18:42season to this point. That's I.
- 18:44I bet you that'd be a heck of a. Where I mean, we're stacked.
- 18:47Heck of a club right there. We're stacked.
- 18:49It's yeah, like a total home runs or total strikeouts or
- 18:55innings pitched. Yeah.
- 18:56I mean, there's there's a lot there.
- 18:59There's a lot there. And there's probably maybe one
- 19:01or two like divisions that that all IL team isn't leading in.
- 19:07Right. Yeah, the Yamaha thing, dude, I
- 19:10think the Yamamoto thing's just scary just because of all the
- 19:13all the arm injuries we've seen all the names going.
- 19:16Down the workload conversation applies to him too.
- 19:20Having come over from Japan. I did see.
- 19:24Want to make sure I got the number right here.
- 19:28His start against the Yankees on June 7th, I think.
- 19:36I think he threw 106 pitches that game, which was the 4th
- 19:42time he had thrown over 100. So it's just it's something to
- 19:47consider when looking at that specific case.
- 19:49You got a guy who you know, still he he's not exactly a
- 19:54young gun. Like he's he's he's was over
- 19:57there pitching in Japan for a handful of years.
- 19:59So it's not like that's why the whole like Rookie of the Year
- 20:02conversation gets a little. Little muddy, little cloudy for
- 20:05some people 'cause they're going really, I mean, what are we
- 20:07talking about this guy? So it's, it's not like he
- 20:11doesn't have, it's not like he hasn't thrown the bullets
- 20:14already. But it's still a different
- 20:17philosophy, different workload, different approach that you have
- 20:19to implement, accommodate and plan for looking ahead to a full
- 20:27162 season, so. If this is a big one, if this is
- 20:31a big injury, I I think this is going to affect decisions down
- 20:36the road, specifically dollar amounts.
- 20:39Yeah, being forked over. This is an old school injury.
- 20:44This is a rotator cuff. This isn't an elbow.
- 20:46We we're used to elbows. Yeah, that's the whole thing.
- 20:49Now this is a shoulder, so hope he's all right.
- 20:53Yeah, Rotator, rotate rotator. Cuff News came out not too long
- 20:58ago. I think that was an update that
- 21:00we just received earlier today, yeah.
- 21:04Hope he's all right. Baseball's obviously better with
- 21:07him in it. So just just sucks man.
- 21:12It's it's not surprising. I, if anyone's surprised and
- 21:17it's, it's just specifically referring to Japanese pitchers.
- 21:25I, I just, it, you're not shocked anytime this news
- 21:29happens, you're like, yeah, it was, it was just a matter of
- 21:33time. It's not if it's when.
- 21:37And it sucks because like, I want that to be all done.
- 21:39I'm all, I'm all, I'm all done with that.
- 21:41I'm over it. Dodge would be all right,
- 21:45though. It'll be fine.
- 21:47It's hard for any other fan base to feel bad for him.
- 21:52Speaking of feeling bad, probably not too many guys in
- 21:56baseball that feel worse right now than Jose Abreu getting
- 22:01released on Friday by the Houston Astros.
- 22:05And need we remind you, the Astros, if you're, if you're
- 22:12unfamiliar with the situation already, Astros have decided to
- 22:16eat the 30.8 mill that was owed to him of the remainder of his
- 22:24contract. How many years left?
- 22:28Two. Less than halfway through his
- 22:32three-year deal, so that, I mean, what a year, year and a
- 22:38half year and 2/3, yeah, that was a, that was a 58 and a half,
- 22:45$1,000,000 contract when he signed it.
- 22:47I felt like the time down wasn't enough.
- 22:50It was like a week. They they didn't send him down
- 22:55for long. No, I mean, he, I, I could have
- 22:59sworn. Oh, you're right.
- 23:02Wow, it was only seven games. That's what I'm saying like.
- 23:05I don't know why I thought I I thought I remembered it being
- 23:07more. I just feel like that
- 23:09conversation had to be so difficult to have and it's such
- 23:13a selfless thing because for those unfamiliar, we just looked
- 23:16this up before recording. Guys that have five or more
- 23:20years of service time can deny being sent down.
- 23:24If they have options available, they can deny that.
- 23:28So him agreeing to that, that's a selfless thing.
- 23:35And I feel like it's such a big pill to swallow for it to just
- 23:40be a week. Well, a week's worth of games
- 23:45really got corrected, though. Well, I, I was right it it
- 23:50because it did seem like it was longer.
- 23:51He, he was away for like a month, but he only had a week's
- 23:56worth of games. So he's only getting game a BS
- 23:59over the course of seven games. But he, he had spent weeks
- 24:02beyond that, like in addition to those games trying to fine tune
- 24:07the swing, work on mechanical issues, get his head right.
- 24:10So yeah, he was gone for like a month or so.
- 24:13Really. Yeah, which is what I thought.
- 24:16And that's what I was saying. Like it definitely felt longer.
- 24:18But then you mentioned the seven games, which is also correct.
- 24:21Like he it it wasn't. It wasn't.
- 24:22He doing the rest of the time that's.
- 24:24What I'm saying, I think it was just mechanical corrections
- 24:28working. I, I don't, I don't know the
- 24:30full details, but that would be my guess is that like if you're
- 24:33away from the team for a month and you're only playing for one
- 24:36of those weeks. I don't know, like when you look
- 24:38at like, like, Oh my gosh, what is wrong with me?
- 24:51Big annoying dude for the Blue Jays, Danny Vogel.
- 24:54No, the picture that got sent down.
- 24:57Alec Manoa, Manoa, My gosh, what's wrong with me?
- 25:01The fact that we like can look at that and be like, you're
- 25:05going to need to really earn your way back up here.
- 25:08And I'm not saying that like Jose Brady's struggles were as
- 25:11bad, but maybe they kind of were.
- 25:14Maybe they kind of were just as bad.
- 25:17Send them way down. You know, it's not seven games
- 25:21in AAA down. Send him way down and like if it
- 25:25is AAA, fine. But like, leave him there until
- 25:28you start seeing A800 plus OPS out of him.
- 25:35You know what I mean? Like, let if if that pill, that
- 25:38selfless pill is going to be swallowed, don't put like seven
- 25:43games to it. This made national news.
- 25:46Like this is a big deal. He's a world champion.
- 25:48He's a former MVP to be sent down to like go figure that out
- 25:52to only have seven games to work with.
- 25:55I just I don't love it. I don't I don't love the way it
- 25:58was handled. I'm not saying I disagree with
- 26:02the release, I'm not saying that his production warranted a
- 26:08second shot. I just, I'm, I think like give
- 26:11him more time to figure it out. Well, to that point, I'd
- 26:16probably have to agree with you because we we very well know,
- 26:19like if you've been following Major League Baseball, if you've
- 26:21been keeping tabs on what the Astros have been doing,
- 26:25especially to start the year, it wasn't good.
- 26:27But as we said and not, there are a lot of people that didn't
- 26:31want to agree with us. As we said, they've slowly
- 26:34started to creep back into the conversation.
- 26:37And I get it, they're only nine games back.
- 26:40But I would venture to say that the Mariners success that
- 26:44they've been seeing as of late probably isn't terribly
- 26:47sustainable. Like, they're up 8 1/2 in the
- 26:49division. That doesn't sound like a very
- 26:51Mariners Z kind of thing. To do, it's not that dominant of
- 26:55a team. So give it more time.
- 26:57All that to say, they've been doing just fine without them.
- 27:00So like, why? What's the hurry and bringing
- 27:02them back? That's what I that's what I'm
- 27:04saying, man, like that's what I'm especially when you have
- 27:06that much money invested. It's just a weird timing and and
- 27:11like a not enough time to make that decision.
- 27:15And maybe there's some things behind the curtain that we don't
- 27:17know then, and I don't know, but does this like secure Pete
- 27:26Alonzo to the Astros? Like does that not just sound
- 27:29like the most picture perfect thing like a a right-handed
- 27:35first baseman that you can plug in between Tucker and and your
- 27:42Don? I mean 'cause like, let's be
- 27:46real, Bregman isn't like a true 3 hitter.
- 27:50If you go if you go straight up. And I don't write the Astros
- 27:53lineup and I know they rotate because I watched Kyle Tucker
- 27:56lead off a few times. But if you go Altuve, Tucker
- 28:02third spot will leave blank for now.
- 28:04You are Don 4. Bregman feels like A5 hitter
- 28:08based on this year. I think 3.
- 28:12Like Pete Alonso with the three. And then you really have a
- 28:15right, left, right, left, right one through 5.
- 28:20And that's a that's like a that's like a scary one through
- 28:245. Like that's a next level one
- 28:25through 5. And we're not Pete Alonzo fans
- 28:31by any means, but are your Don behind you with the Crawford
- 28:37seats? That man could cook.
- 28:43That man could do some damage there.
- 28:45Where does? It here's the question, where
- 28:47does Pete Alonzo become where when it's all said and done?
- 28:50If he were to end up in Houston, where would he be more disliked,
- 28:54hated, hated with the Mets organization who can't get out
- 28:59of their own way or the very well documented hated Houston
- 29:04Astros organization? I think it's both.
- 29:09I don't. Know if I can answer both
- 29:10because you know, he's taking the try hard way of going about
- 29:14things with him. Like that's not he's not leaving
- 29:17that in New York. He's he's very wherever he goes,
- 29:20he's taking that with him. That's him.
- 29:22For as long as he's in the Home Run Derby, he's going to be
- 29:25doing deadlifts before, regardless if he's wearing a
- 29:28Mets hat or not. So that's an interesting
- 29:31question that I would be, I'd be curious to know the answer to
- 29:35when it's all said and done, I. Don't know, it just it makes too
- 29:38much sense though. It makes too much sense.
- 29:45I I can see it, I can. Does before you move on, does
- 29:53Jose Abreu get another chance this year and not minor league
- 29:59contract checking that box. I'm saying, do we?
- 30:01Oh, OK, there it is there. It is in a big league uniform
- 30:07again this year. Well, he's not.
- 30:13I mean, he's not signing to play right away at the big league
- 30:17level. No.
- 30:18So like he would have to work his way back so.
- 30:20You're saying with the caveat of him sign it like checking that
- 30:24minor league deal box and then working his way back to the
- 30:27majors by seasons end That's what.
- 30:29You're saying does that happen? Glad you mention it 'cause I
- 30:32didn't want to have to, didn't want to have to to win that bet
- 30:36too. Yeah, had to put in the correct.
- 30:39Shout out Jorge Lopez. I don't know, man.
- 30:47That's going to take some work. Yeah.
- 30:52And I know it's like still kind of early, but it's also kind of
- 30:56not. I just don't think he has
- 30:58analytics on his side either like that.
- 31:00I think that's one of the big trouble.
- 31:03Like he gives me Hosmer vibes with like less defensive
- 31:08ability. The fall off was crazy though.
- 31:13Dude. Like it like I, I, I, it's
- 31:15really old. I think people forget he didn't
- 31:17come over until like 26. He's 37 1/2.
- 31:21So we like, that's what we know. We don't know for certain, but
- 31:26that's what we were told is that he's 37 1/2.
- 31:29He didn't crack in until 27 years old, right?
- 31:342014, so that's ten years ago, so 27, yeah, you.
- 31:41Might be done the fall. I think it was done.
- 31:43The fall off was crazy though dude.
- 31:46He so he won the he won the MVP in the shorten 2020 season, but
- 31:56before that, how many? Jacks did he?
- 31:59Have even in that season he had 19.
- 32:02But in 60 games in 60. Games he did, he played every.
- 32:06He played every game. So 19 Jacks in 60 games actually
- 32:11had the most hits in the AL that year too.
- 32:14But by year, starting with his rookie year 36 Jacks 3025332233
- 32:23and then 19 and 2020-2021 he had 30 and then 2022 is really where
- 32:33I don't know. I don't want to say a dip, but
- 32:34he only had fifteen home runs. He hit three O 4 though and that
- 32:38was over 157 games 2023. So he's 30.
- 32:44He is durable. He had, yeah, 2023 played 141
- 32:49games, had 18 Jacks, only hit 237.
- 32:54And then obviously this year has just been abysmal.
- 32:56I think I don't. Feel like pulling up the
- 32:58numbers. I just, I'm curious to see like
- 33:00if like off of fastballs, it's like, you know, that's always
- 33:03kind of the old age tell yeah, you can't keep up with the
- 33:06average fastball. That's when we're going to move
- 33:08on. He was in 124 before he got.
- 33:11The biggest issue is the launch angle that I think that's the
- 33:13biggest problem and that's why that's what I mentioned, like
- 33:16like the Hosmer vibes. So he's just not lifting the
- 33:20ball. It's so weird to me.
- 33:23It's just so weird to me. That, and I'm not going to sit
- 33:26here and say I'm the greatest hitting coach ever, but it's
- 33:29weird to me that hitting coaches can't just be like, we need to
- 33:33change stuff. I need you to like, move your
- 33:37hands to a different place. I need you to get rid of this
- 33:40hitch in your load. I need you to consider this.
- 33:44And it's weird how like unadjustable guys are.
- 33:49And I don't know if it's like a lack of athleticism, it's more
- 33:52so like a, a stubbornness. And I'm like, what you're,
- 33:56you're hitting like $1.50. What do you, what do you have to
- 33:59lose? Change something.
- 34:02And where is this hitting coach that's willing to be like, these
- 34:06are mechanics that we need to maybe try and find.
- 34:10This is the result we're looking for.
- 34:12Let's get those hands in a different place.
- 34:14Let's get our bad angle in a different place.
- 34:17Let's just change something. It's so weird to me that I
- 34:23don't, I don't know if it's a lack of like, willingness for a
- 34:27coach to come out and direct that or if it's more so a player
- 34:33being stubborn. But like, I would, I would love
- 34:38for, I don't know, pitching that much, but like, mechanically
- 34:41anyway. But like, I would love for
- 34:42someone to be like, yeah, Manoah looks totally different now from
- 34:46what he was doing during his struggles.
- 34:48His hands are starting here versus here.
- 34:50Like, I, you know what I'm saying?
- 34:51Like there's there's enough of a mechanical difference.
- 34:57And that's what I just, I didn't see it when the Bray who came
- 34:59back up and he hit that double to right field, I was like,
- 35:02maybe he's back. But it looked the same, didn't
- 35:05look any different. I don't know, tough.
- 35:12I think he's done. He's old.
- 35:14He's old but you get them for big league minimum so.
- 35:21It's true. I I think he gets one more shot.
- 35:28I mean because again, the fall off was rough, but it.
- 35:31I think it was. It's going to be somewhere
- 35:33random. Yeah, well, that's.
- 35:34Like the Tigers or the Royals or something?
- 35:37Well, I don't think they're going to, they're going to want
- 35:39to acquire a, a, an aged corner infielder after, yeah, after the
- 35:47whole Mickey situation. I think they're still a little
- 35:49scarred from that. But again, it like I was saying
- 35:52the the fall off, granted it was rough, but it wasn't exactly
- 35:59prolonged. Like it wasn't drawn out.
- 36:01It was just like a steep Cliff. So I'm wondering to your point,
- 36:04like mechanically if there's something?
- 36:07That's what it makes you. It makes you question, yeah, the
- 36:11quick fall offs. It's like a mechanical thing.
- 36:16Or confidence thing, Yeah, as as we've said.
- 36:18Before for sure. Who really knows?
- 36:23Name that player. Hall of Fame or no Hall of Fame.
- 36:27No Hall of Fame. Active or retired?
- 36:31Active debut before 2015, No afterwards.
- 36:42OK, One team in that time, One team.
- 36:47AL or NLNLNLE. No Central, No NL Central, NL
- 36:55West. Yes.
- 36:58Rockies no. Diamondbacks, no.
- 37:03Dodgers. No Padres.
- 37:06Yeah. Current player after 2015.
- 37:11Outfielder, infielder currently. Infield,
- 37:26your next comment has to be an answer.
- 37:31Well, it's pretty much dropped down to four names for the most
- 37:38part. Trying to remember how far back
- 37:43Bogarts goes. I think he debuted before 2015.
- 37:51You're not getting anything out of me, so don't don't try to
- 37:55weasel any info out. Machado debuted before 2015, so
- 38:01he's out. So it's down to Hassan Kim
- 38:04Cronenworth and Luisa Rais. Hassan Kim.
- 38:12Hassan Kim. Yeah, let's.
- 38:14Go oh. Man, that was not bad.
- 38:18I did not track questions, but I think we stayed under 20.
- 38:24I'd have to go back and count 'cause you you were ripping.
- 38:27Questions I was ripping out but I normally don't so I said.
- 38:30Well, well, for, for clarification purpose, we, you
- 38:33and I chatted I think after last episode and we're like, we're
- 38:37not going to be like you. You're just not going to be able
- 38:39to get 20 questions in. Yeah, so short of time.
- 38:42We can just rename like rebrand it, we'll just go name that
- 38:44player, keep it simple. So I, I think with that rename,
- 38:50we drop the question limit. So it's, I guess it's at that
- 38:54point it's really just like ripping as many off as you can
- 38:57before the, the, the, the tune ends.
- 39:02That's true. Either way, I think I stayed
- 39:04under Hall of Fame or no Hall of Fame.
- 39:05Active or retired debut AL or NLNLE Central West.
- 39:19And then you went through every. Team Dodgers D backs, Padres
- 39:24infield outfield. So like 13 questions.
- 39:30Infield, outfield, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:33You're definitely under. 2020 is a lot of 20 is a lot of
- 39:36questions. Yeah, I'm proud of that one.
- 39:38That's a good name. That's a random good name.
- 39:41Thank you. I wasn't sure if you'd hit me
- 39:42with an active guy. I will be honest though, the
- 39:44retired ones I feel like are harder.
- 39:47Yeah, I know. I I felt bad.
- 39:49I feel like I gave you, I think the last two or three.
- 39:51How many have we done? 3, Two.
- 39:53Yeah. I gave you like I gave you.
- 39:55One that was retired. They've been 90s era.
- 40:01Do you want to, do we want to make this a thing where we we go
- 40:04one in one here, or do you just want me to spring this on you
- 40:08throughout the episodes 'cause I don't want you to feel
- 40:10pressured? What do you want?
- 40:13I don't know if I I felt the people love love a good game.
- 40:16From you want to send it? Do you have a music up?
- 40:21Do you have a guy? I got a guy.
- 40:22You have a guy. Oh, boy.
- 40:24All right. All right.
- 40:27Lock it in. Corwin.
- 40:28Here we go. You ready?
- 40:31I'm ready. Active or retired?
- 40:35Retired pitcher or position player.
- 40:39Position player. American League.
- 40:42National League. American League American League
- 40:46East Yes. Red Sox No.
- 40:50Yankees Yes. You said Retired Hall of Famer,
- 40:55No Hall of Fame. Hall of Fame.
- 40:58You said position, player, retire, keeping track of these
- 41:02questions. I know Yankees, you said no Hall
- 41:06of Fame. Retired Hall of Fame.
- 41:08Hall of Fame, Yankees Hall of Famer, retired position player,
- 41:13infield, outfield, outfield, outfield.
- 41:21Yeah, No, shoot, you got a big nineties 90s.
- 41:30No. OK, that's good.
- 41:33Gotta I had to get that question before I beat.
- 41:35I got to beat the buzzer there. You're a big group.
- 41:37You got a big. Yeah, dude, come on.
- 41:39Hall of Fame Yankees sick. That really narrows it down.
- 41:42No. All right, so let me just let me
- 41:48just backtrack here. A position.
- 41:51But did I ask infield, outfield. What did you tell me, outfield?
- 41:59No, I, I would, I would have said outfit if you would have
- 42:01been difficult there. I was going to just defer
- 42:04outfit. All right.
- 42:05Hall of Famer Outfield for the Yankees.
- 42:07Not in the 90s. Answer retention is a part of
- 42:10the. I know, dude.
- 42:11That's, well, it's harder when you just like ripping questions
- 42:16off. Like, I don't remember what I
- 42:17said. Yeah, I'm going to go.
- 42:22Let's go the Mick. Nah, let's go.
- 42:28Let's go. Unbelievable.
- 42:30Let's. Go.
- 42:31Good for you, that's a big group to to choose from so.
- 42:35Yeah, I mean, come on, man. You.
- 42:37You. Sorry.
- 42:38Put me on the spot, and then you give me like the largest player
- 42:41pool, the largest Hall of Fame player rule that exists in
- 42:44baseball. Unbelievable.
- 42:47Anyway, All right, that was good.
- 42:48That was good. Speaking of another American
- 42:52League East team, the Baltimore Orioles had quite the the
- 42:58aforementioned series that we alluded to the Phillies and OS
- 43:02OS take two or three this weekend after dropping a
- 43:05heartbreaker on Friday. Some were saying, I didn't say
- 43:09it necessarily, but I I did see game of the year to this point.
- 43:13That might be. It's a good candidate.
- 43:16It's a candidate. I won't say for certain that it
- 43:18is, but it's I feel like rain. Delays, rain delays kind of ruin
- 43:21it. Maybe it added to it for this
- 43:24one. From what I could tell, it
- 43:28seemed like the crowd retention was like.
- 43:33Granted, I don't. Do you remember how long the
- 43:35delay was? That's.
- 43:36What I was going to say, I don't remember how long the delay was.
- 43:39I was having to watch on my phone.
- 43:41I it sucks that these matchups fall in the weekend.
- 43:43I mean, it's nice because there's a good chance that
- 43:46you'll have the ability to to watch them.
- 43:48But on the flip side, it's like. You and I are weird, like I'm
- 43:52more likely to watch during the week.
- 43:55Well, that's no, no, but that's what I'm saying is like you're
- 44:00safer to assume that like you're not going to have those
- 44:03consistent commitments of like work and stuff.
- 44:06Like some people work on the weekends.
- 44:07I get it. But like you think, OK, well,
- 44:11the weekends here, I'll at least I I think I'll have an
- 44:14opportunity, but things but then things come up.
- 44:16You got. Husband duties bro you got.
- 44:18Husband you got you got like dinners with friends and stuff
- 44:21like that so. It's always a birthday, there's
- 44:24always the holiday there's. And now we're at the stage where
- 44:27it's like baby shower and like seeing babies on the weekends
- 44:31and trips. It's crazy.
- 44:33But anyway, all that to say, the, the weekends are, are
- 44:38tough, especially in the summer. That's another factor here, here
- 44:41a lot, a lot more stuff happens. So I had to watch again, to to
- 44:44reiterate, had to watch on the phone, so I wasn't able to to
- 44:47keep track very closely. But I told you that this was
- 44:51going to be a series to watch and I made sure to watch it to
- 44:54the best of my ability. And it was a great series.
- 44:59Well, maybe not if your feelings fan, but it I, I think there had
- 45:02a there was a little bit of everything.
- 45:03There was a little bit of everything, including today.
- 45:07The game three, I don't we were talking about it before we
- 45:10hopped on. Zach Wheeler getting touched up
- 45:12first time in his career gave it.
- 45:16Giving up four home runs in a game, which sucks because I was,
- 45:21I was doing, I was hyping up this game like it was going to
- 45:23be the pitchers duels, the pitchers.
- 45:25Duels. And then Corbin Burns goes out
- 45:27and dices and then Zach Wheeler, as I mentioned, gets touched and
- 45:30it just didn't look as good. But to I, I will say though, to
- 45:36counter Zach Wheeler getting touched up the way in which it
- 45:41happened was pretty cool as as you and I were talking about it
- 45:45was, I cannot remember who the 4th home run was, but it was
- 45:49three of the young bucks in consecutive Indians.
- 45:52By the way, it was, I think Gunner had a lead off in the 1st
- 45:57And then I want to say it was Cowser in the second and then
- 46:04Adly in the 3rd. And I again, I can't remember
- 46:08who hit the 4th one off of him. I'm sure we could pull that up.
- 46:11But it's like, yeah, I mean, if, if Zach Wheeler's going to get
- 46:15touched at least. Westbrook, Yeah, the 1st 3.
- 46:18Right, Westbrook. Yeah, that.
- 46:19Was in the fifth, yeah. Yeah, so it's like at least if
- 46:22he's going to get touched up, at least it was off some just
- 46:25absolute fireworks of some home runs and it wasn't just
- 46:28stringing hit after hit after hit together.
- 46:30Although I will I I will mention it was wild to me that Rob
- 46:36Thompson left him out for as long as he did.
- 46:39I had this, I actually had this discussion with my father-in-law
- 46:44and he was like, why is it that that happens?
- 46:48And he loves to follow like the live chat on whatever these apps
- 46:51are, You know what I mean? It's just people just like
- 46:54toxicity just filling in. Yeah.
- 46:57And just the Super emotional recency bias comments.
- 47:03And. And the tough thing is, is that
- 47:04like, you know, I, I haven't I'm not following these teams to
- 47:09know exactly the way their bullpen shape is.
- 47:12But it it's hard for you to want to burn through a bullpen.
- 47:19You know, it's the end of a series.
- 47:20It is your ace. And I think at the very least
- 47:23you can trust your ace to say, like, if it's not win day, can
- 47:29you eat innings for us and just give us a decent chance?
- 47:33And it is a part of that conversation.
- 47:36And I think that, you know, Rob Thompson being somewhat old
- 47:39school, Zach Wheeler being who he is, it's like, you know what,
- 47:42I don't have my stuff today, but at the very least let me, you
- 47:46know, we're going to take the L today, but let me get you some
- 47:47innings. And I don't know, maybe that
- 47:53maybe that's what the game called for.
- 47:55It was still 'cause he, it was 82, I believe, after that
- 48:01Westbrook home run in the fifth. Yeah, 82.
- 48:07So I mean, like you, you asked for five, you know, 62.
- 48:13You're like, I don't feel great. It's four innings.
- 48:15Like, let me try to settle in. I don't know.
- 48:18I just hate that it happens to a guy that's like in the Cy Young
- 48:21conversation, like you mentioned, he's their ace.
- 48:24And it's just to me, I, I get what you're saying.
- 48:29I, I, I totally agree with the logic that can be applied to, to
- 48:34so many of these guys. It's.
- 48:35A marathon conversation A little.
- 48:37Bit like if if you're not, if you can't get us a win, if, if
- 48:40this just isn't your day that you just don't have it, Can you
- 48:43give us an answer? I get that, but on the to play
- 48:48devil's advocate or on the flip side of the conversation, this
- 48:51is a guy whose resume and I don't know how much or how
- 48:57little a guy like Rob Thompson, or really any manager for that
- 49:00for that matter, is worrying about a resume for a an end of
- 49:05season award or just like a. Season.
- 49:07I doubt it all. I doubt it all.
- 49:10Right. But it the reality of it is, is
- 49:13like this guy is crafting a resume that is going to be
- 49:22dinged up a little bit because of this outing.
- 49:25And based on how the rest of his season goes, this we could look
- 49:29back on this game, but like that ERA, not quite what it could
- 49:34because of that start back in June where he got hung out to
- 49:37dry. Did you by chance see MLB
- 49:44Central in London? Where was Wheeler and Nola on
- 49:49the show? I don't think I caught that.
- 49:52Couldn't be a more dry conversation.
- 49:55Both of them were so so dry. I could see that.
- 50:01So what I'm wondering is like in a part of this equation and
- 50:04maybe Rob Thompson. Well, for sure Rob Thompson
- 50:06knows this answer of the mental toughness.
- 50:10You know what I'm saying? Like Zach Wheeler, are you
- 50:14willing to eat innings and will this affect your next start?
- 50:17No, Cool. I need this.
- 50:19I need to save the pen. Let's get out of town day.
- 50:23I don't know where they're going next, but you know what I mean?
- 50:27Like maybe there is a little bit of that part where it's like you
- 50:30can handle this. And if if that conversation
- 50:32happened in the dugout too, Wheeler's like, you know, I
- 50:34don't have my stuff. Looks like we're taking the L,
- 50:37which obviously you're not going to say that, but in so many
- 50:39words, like, you know, this isn't our game.
- 50:42We still need outs. Let me at least go try to get
- 50:44him and and he'll be fine because I and that's why I asked
- 50:48about the interview, because it's like he just seems like a
- 50:50gamer. He seems like he really doesn't
- 50:52care. He's it's in it.
- 50:56It just perfectly makes sense to who the Phillies are, what that
- 50:59mentality is, what that roster does.
- 51:01It's just selfless baseball. So maybe that's that's part of
- 51:06it. I don't know.
- 51:09No, let's have good points, I think.
- 51:12No, I, I think you're, I think you're absolutely right.
- 51:17But you know, the more I think about it as I'm, as I'm talking
- 51:20through this, you know, I maybe it's maybe it's a thing with
- 51:25Zach Wheeler where he is taking that approach, where he's going,
- 51:28you know, I don't have it today. I'm racking up the runs.
- 51:31Clearly this is just not it for me.
- 51:33I'm going to eat the innings. But what would it say about a
- 51:37guy like Zach Wheeler to where he's like, no, I need to
- 51:39protect. Not again, not that he he
- 51:41wouldn't say this, but what would it say about his mentality
- 51:45and his belief in his stuff if he felt like he needed to
- 51:49protect his resume off of one start to where he didn't feel
- 51:54like he could bounce back or, or, you know, bring those
- 52:00numbers back down with the rest of his performance because he's
- 52:03that good. So I, I'll admit a little
- 52:07reactionary take and I think a little bit of bias there because
- 52:11he was my my Cy Young pick. So I'm going hey.
- 52:14Ross, it was your wicked series to watch is a great series.
- 52:18I think all of us fall in love with with the moment and like as
- 52:22a fan, you're like, duh, like this is a potential World Series
- 52:26match up, potential Cy Young. That's what I have in the world.
- 52:29Series this year, you know what I mean?
- 52:31So like, I don't, I think we both do actually.
- 52:33So I don't, I don't think it it's crazy to feel that way, but
- 52:37it is definitely like an an irrational fan view at times.
- 52:43I think we just, yeah, maybe got a little caught up in it, got a
- 52:46little something there. And I'd be, I'd be interested to
- 52:50see, I mean, he's obviously had a great year to this point, but
- 52:52I'd be interested to see you go back and look on some of the the
- 52:55more dominant years that arms have had, like how many of
- 52:57these? Bumps how many clunkers?
- 52:59Yeah. Yeah, how many, how many of
- 53:00these do they have over the course of a a full season,
- 53:03assuming they make all their scheduled stars?
- 53:05And he, I think as a manager, like after that conversation,
- 53:08you just got to be like, hey, we got it out of the way.
- 53:10Like you we are, we're all going to have these clunkers.
- 53:12You got yours out of the way. And luckily it's June and we're
- 53:15in a good shape in the division. Put it behind us.
- 53:18And it's against the Orioles at the end of the day, like, right,
- 53:20if you're going to do it, like do it against one of the better
- 53:23teams the league. I, I'm, I'm cool with it.
- 53:25All right, I got my, I got my reactionary take out of the way.
- 53:28I'm, I'm better now. I've I'm I'm a little more
- 53:31level. We talked it out, we talked it
- 53:32out. All right, I'm, I'm better,
- 53:35better. Oh, and by the way, for all the
- 53:37people coming at me saying, whoa, the Phillies fan, the
- 53:40Phillies fan, I'm still, I'm still getting that.
- 53:43For all the people saying Phillies fan, Phillies fan, I
- 53:45intentionally I, I busted open a cool beverage today and
- 53:51intentionally and I, I love having my drinks with a in a
- 53:54nice big cup of ice intentionally took out.
- 53:58And I, I said, I'm going to mention this on the podcast.
- 54:01I better not forget this intentionally chose the Orioles
- 54:04postseason souvenir cup that you and I got last October while I'm
- 54:09watching the Phillies and OS. So all these people out here
- 54:12saying, oh, Phillies fan, Phillies fan, take that and
- 54:15shove it. OK, piped out.
- 54:20It got people call me A's, an A's fan.
- 54:23People call me a Phillies fan. Like, let's, let's not lose
- 54:26sight of where we're coming from here.
- 54:30If you need a reminder, go back to the beginning of this episode
- 54:33and, and, and we'll make it all. We'll clear up any confusion for
- 54:37you as to where I stand. That's all unreal.
- 54:43I'm I'm tired of having to defend my own honor.
- 54:46It's crazy. It's crazy.
- 54:52Speaking of defending 11's honor, Pat Hoberg, Major League
- 54:57umpire, having it coming out, He had to.
- 55:00He came out and said no, I, I, I didn't bet.
- 55:05I didn't. I didn't get caught up in that,
- 55:07that stuff. Shohei and Epe and David
- 55:10Fletcher and all them were doing.
- 55:11I wasn't doing all that. I think he appealed the
- 55:15decision. Major League Baseball came out
- 55:16and announced Friday that it was disciplining umpire Pat Hoberg
- 55:21for violating the league's gambling rules.
- 55:24Did we get the details? Were there any in his game?
- 55:28If they that is a bigger deal to me than any player betting on
- 55:32their own game. Well, what's crazy is this guy
- 55:35is one of the the better UMS in baseball.
- 55:37They're they're. The big name?
- 55:40Little to no signs of there being any sort of like fudging
- 55:45of of outcomes that he had. If you've been following this
- 55:49this news you, you've probably heard that this was the guy that
- 55:53had the I, I I say perfect game had the perfect umpiring game in
- 55:58the 2022. I won't say I thought it was
- 56:03last year. No, I think it was 2022 had the
- 56:10perfect game in game two of twenty.
- 56:12Yeah, the 2022 World Series called 129 balls and strikes
- 56:18correctly. It's a tough one.
- 56:23It's hard to see you don't love it.
- 56:26But yeah, he came out and he is. I think he's appealing the
- 56:33decision they have. I don't think they have, they
- 56:38have determined yet whether or not he had bet on baseball.
- 56:42So I don't think that's that's been decided.
- 56:45I don't know if that's out of the picture yet either way.
- 56:47I don't know if that's been. I'm curious clear details how
- 56:51much and for what sports. It's tough, man, it's tough.
- 56:57I mean, this conversation isn't going to go away And, and I
- 57:01think all major sports are in a no win situation.
- 57:07I I don't know how the contracts work, but I'm assuming like
- 57:10DraftKings is paying Major League Baseball for to be able
- 57:14to use them in their book. You know what I mean?
- 57:17Like, I'm assuming they're getting cut outs for payouts
- 57:20from these big DraftKings, FanDuel, ESPN bets, like
- 57:25whatever it may be, you got to think that they're getting cuts.
- 57:29So what is what? What does it do for a sport to
- 57:32just be like, no, we don't want any of that.
- 57:39They're turning down money, I think.
- 57:40Yeah, I don't. I mean you, you would probably
- 57:44know this better than I would. I don't know if Major League
- 57:47Baseball has a designated sports book 'cause I know they brought,
- 57:52I'm, I'm reading here that they brought on FanDuel in 2023, the
- 57:56last so last March or I guess 2 marches ago.
- 58:00But then obviously I mean DraftKings is involved in in a
- 58:04variety. That's a licensing thing, right?
- 58:07Like it's, I don't think it's any different from like a a
- 58:11third party company getting a licensing deal to put like
- 58:16merchandise out there. What?
- 58:18It says here FanDuel has the right to use official MLB
- 58:22branding and category designations both in its
- 58:24products, including FanDuel Sports Book Daily.
- 58:28Yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah.
- 58:29So I I think it's I don't know either way regardless who who's
- 58:36in bed with Major League Baseball like it's this is a
- 58:39real thing like this, like gambling, betting, sports books,
- 58:44all that it's it's embedded not just in baseball, but all of
- 58:48sports now. And we talked about this when
- 58:49the whole show hey thing went down.
- 58:52You this, you can't really come back from this Like you can't
- 58:56really once. That once it's open, once that
- 58:59door's open, there's no closing it.
- 59:00You, you just can't come back from this because it the, you
- 59:05have people in positions of power who have eyes for nothing
- 59:10but money signs and they're seeing, they're seeing the
- 59:16dollar signs come in with the, as we implement more and more
- 59:21gambling into baseball, you're seeing, you're seeing money
- 59:24lines plastered on, on on matchups on every website and
- 59:31you're seeing in game like parlays being broken down.
- 59:34It's like OK. Sure.
- 59:37Do you really think the people that are benefiting this,
- 59:40benefiting from this are just going to all of a sudden go,
- 59:42yeah, you know, like, guys, let's let's dial this back.
- 59:45We don't want the umpires to get in trouble now.
- 59:47Right. I, I, I, I pretty sure it's just
- 59:49going to be a revision of the rules.
- 59:52You know what I'm saying? Like how many guys got cut from
- 59:56teams in the NFL for smoking weed and then next thing you
- 59:59knew, the NFL is like, OK, we're cool with weed now.
- 1:00:03And now they don't test for it. So like it, it makes me wonder
- 1:00:08the rules around betting, were they written before FanDuel
- 1:00:15DraftKings was like this worldwide thing where those
- 1:00:19rules just like written after Pete Rose and then just
- 1:00:24untouched since, you know, and then 40 years goes by and now
- 1:00:30betting is what it is now. Do you revise those rules?
- 1:00:34Do you reinstate certain players or umpires that break rules at
- 1:00:39that time? Like I'm just curious to see how
- 1:00:41it goes, like what they're going to do moving forward?
- 1:00:45Or is it just a set in stone thing?
- 1:00:49And it's it is like somewhat I, I won't say hypocritical, but
- 1:00:55almost contradictory of yeah. And you make that joke.
- 1:01:00You know what I mean? Like you watch it, you watch a
- 1:01:02game and you're like, these players can't bet.
- 1:01:04But this game is brought to you by DraftKings or this, this
- 1:01:09commercial break is brought to you by FanDuel.
- 1:01:11Like it's it is contradictory. I don't know.
- 1:01:17I don't know. But it is, I mean, it's an issue
- 1:01:20in the NFL. Two, there's definitely been
- 1:01:22some guys that have been cut, but again, you can't close that
- 1:01:30door. It's open now.
- 1:01:32It's just silly, man. It's like like you mentioned,
- 1:01:35you come back from break. This game is brought to you by
- 1:01:38DraftKings here. We're going to look at our we're
- 1:01:42going to look at we're going to do a little bit of a deep dive
- 1:01:44here. We got Max freed at over.
- 1:01:46We're setting the line at 5 1/2 KS on for today's match up, Ozzy
- 1:01:52Albie's 1 1/2 total bases. Oh, by the way, breaking news,
- 1:01:58Shohei Otani swept up in a gambling scandal.
- 1:02:01It's do you I I just hope that people see that it's not so
- 1:02:07black and white like there's this is trickling into baseball.
- 1:02:10I, I say trickling. It's it's.
- 1:02:14Floodgates. It's the floodgates have opened
- 1:02:17again, not just with baseball, but all of sports.
- 1:02:19And it's, it's I, you know, I got to give the leagues credit.
- 1:02:24Like I'm sure that it, once those floodgates open, they're
- 1:02:27sitting there going, OK, well, we wanted this to be a part of
- 1:02:30it. But like that we got, we got
- 1:02:32lines being crossed. We got things like you mentioned
- 1:02:35contradictory or being contradictory.
- 1:02:37It's there's just way too much that I think the league is
- 1:02:41trying to balance to where they don't look like they're stepping
- 1:02:45on their own toes or that they're, they're going against
- 1:02:48what was already in place rule wise or legislation wise.
- 1:02:52And that's, that's a, that's a tough ask.
- 1:02:55It is it's going to be interesting moving forward.
- 1:02:59It's going to be really strange. And I, I'm curious to see what
- 1:03:05like the, the player associations for these leagues
- 1:03:08start doing, you know what I mean?
- 1:03:11Like an argument or an argument there.
- 1:03:14Like how does this trickle down to college, college Sports,
- 1:03:17College athletes, like all of this stuff is it's a part of the
- 1:03:22equation. And for these entities or
- 1:03:26organizations to receive a cut and players not getting their
- 1:03:33cut and not allowed to bet, that's going to become an issue.
- 1:03:37Player associations are going to start fighting for that.
- 1:03:44It all comes back to people wanting money.
- 1:03:46Yep. That's the that's the reality of
- 1:03:48it. We're all guilty of it.
- 1:03:50And another reason for, you know, one of many revenue
- 1:03:54streams coming into these organizations that complain
- 1:03:57about payroll and complain about not having enough money, they
- 1:04:01have plenty of revenue streams coming through the door.
- 1:04:09Crazy, that's all I got, my friends. 442 in the books.
- 1:04:15You got anything that you'd like to part with before we get out
- 1:04:19of here? I don't think so.
- 1:04:21Happy Father's Day. I mean all the all the all the
- 1:04:23dads out there. Hope you guys had a good day.
- 1:04:27Maybe we'll you and I will get there someday.
- 1:04:29I'm sure it's coming at some point.
- 1:04:31I was at, I was at church this morning and they said, they
- 1:04:34said, hey, we got a gift for all the dads out there in the lobby.
- 1:04:37In fact, not just for the dads, just any, any men in attendance
- 1:04:41there. And be sure to grab it for you
- 1:04:43before you leave. And it was, it was beef jerking,
- 1:04:45a back scratcher. There you go.
- 1:04:47And they came up afterwards and they're handing out the extras.
- 1:04:50I'm like, I, I just feel weird taking this, you know, like I
- 1:04:53want to be ushered into fatherhood the right way.
- 1:04:55I want true. I want all of the the, the, the
- 1:04:59awesome stuff that comes with being a dad that I've heard.
- 1:05:02I agree. At the right time.
- 1:05:04I don't. I don't.
- 1:05:04I don't want it early. Dude, it's funny enough Paige
- 1:05:07and I had the same type of conversation today.
- 1:05:09She was like, have you heard the new Luke Combs album?
- 1:05:12And I'm like, no, it's literally all about father and son.
- 1:05:15So no, I I have it's like it's crazy or videos of dads crying
- 1:05:20listening to it. I'm like, it's not going to hit.
- 1:05:22So maybe I'll just wait. Revisit this album later.
- 1:05:26Maybe I'll drop like a review video on YouTube like years
- 1:05:30later after everybody's already heard it on repeat.
- 1:05:32I get it now I get it this. Is the greatest album.
- 1:05:36Has anybody heard of this yet? And.
- 1:05:38It's crazy, yeah, but any who happy, Happy new week, ladies
- 1:05:45and gents. Let's get after it.
- 1:05:46Let's get it. Don't go chasing curveballs.
- 1:05:49We love you all and as always, looking forward to talking more
- 1:05:51baseball with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
