- 0:26Welcome inside the Treehouse. Time to leave your worries outside. Join me Daniel
- 0:33Malley, Trade Trenholm and Raj Sharma as we set out on our adventure to
- 0:40make your day just a little bit better. It's a good thing about this
- 0:45show, and this is something I truly believe. No matter if you're having
- 0:49a crap day or even a great day, coming inside this treehouse for just
- 0:56a little while, we'll still make that day better. And if you don't
- 1:00believe, just ask the Christmas tree that just turned on as I said that.
- 1:03That was amazing. I was like, am I seeing that? Because
- 1:07I'm like, I'm just drinking water, but that was incredible. I think
- 1:15we should take that as a as a sure sign that Jesus approves of what
- 1:21I just said. Yeah, it's either that or the scorpion walk buying clipped
- 1:26the plug and it's like Merry Christmas and then it's coming towards you as we
- 1:32speak. That also is possible. Yeah, I mean it's I mean,
- 1:38they do have those pinchures. They can probably grab boards and plug them in,
- 1:42unplug them type of stuff. So if you're curious as to what Raj
- 1:46is talking about and any sort of an adventure that I may or may not
- 1:51have had with a scorpion. Then that is your clue to join the Treehouse
- 1:56Plus program, where, for a mere five dollars a month on patreon dot
- 2:00com slash treehouse on area, you can hear about my misadventure where I go
- 2:07mano a mano with a scorpion. M as much as I'd love to,
- 2:13you know, it involved a Arnold Schwarzenegger from the movie Commando's Style preparation scene
- 2:20where I'm smearing the black across my forearms and my face and I'm getting ready
- 2:23to take on an entire army. It's not nearly that cool, but we
- 2:29can all. We can all dream. Yeah, hopefully it was Mono a
- 2:32mono, because if it was Monoa female and she was pregnant, then you
- 2:36got a bunch of little scorpions running around there. They are probably under the
- 2:39tile. Oh Jesus, what are baby scorpions called? Because I know spider
- 2:46like spider babies are spider lings that I know. I don't know if it's
- 2:50scorpion lings or or I think that I think the term is an assholes.
- 3:00It is possible. I don't know. I didn't I didn't take the time
- 3:04to ask, you know, like, hey, what are your children called?
- 3:07But I think it's safe to say that most offspring of most species at
- 3:12some point or another has been referred to as asshole. Certain certainly human,
- 3:16but on the superhero side of my brain, Like I imagine when you sprayed
- 3:21it with the stuff and then you left it outside, the chemicals combined with
- 3:27the sun and the air of the islands has turned it into one giant fing
- 3:31scorpion that knows where you live. Are you trying to say that the scorpion
- 3:38that I had the encounter with may have joined with four other scorpions to create
- 3:42a scorpion Voltron? Correct? That is both terrifying and awesome. It gets
- 3:49me right in estalgia? Yeah, like that's where he plants this thing yet,
- 3:54is right? Noia? Yeah? God, I love that show Growing
- 4:00Up Voltron so bad. And then there what was the other one that was
- 4:06with the guy who would like had the little thing and then he would become
- 4:10like he would be huge and silver he had the little that wasn't Voltron?
- 4:16That was Yeah, that was the one with the animals that all turned into
- 4:19one was what was the Vultron? Was the ships? Well? There was
- 4:25that I thought you were talking about. Was it Gungan? No? What
- 4:30was the one when he had the little the little clicker thing. It was
- 4:33like a little Japanese guy and then he would be huge and like in a
- 4:36silver suit with the nobody. I have to love this up. Now you
- 4:43guys carry on Voltrons the species of jar jar binks. That's terrible. Yeah,
- 4:49I know it's on the It's on the tip of my tongue. Yeah.
- 4:57Voltron was all the Yeah, Vultron is all the animals, the tigers
- 5:02or the jaguars or whatever they were. They would form him vultron beast king.
- 5:13What was the one you're saying it was a vultron beast king? Yes,
- 5:16mm hmm, yeah, well if you can see it, yeah,
- 5:26Jesus Christ being sucks. Yes? Is that is that what you have to
- 5:33use on the island? Is bing? That's what it's just. It's it's
- 5:36my stupid computer's like first thing that it goes to. Gundam. That's what
- 5:42Gundam, that's what it's called. Does that not ring a bell to yaj
- 5:46No? It was hold on, I'll find it. I'm guessing Trey,
- 5:51you're just completely in the dark. On this and wondering what sort of nerd
- 5:55anime thing we're talking about. I vaguely remember Voltron. Uh uh, I
- 6:01remember G fours. Yeah, that was where they had the little planes I
- 6:06think, and then they formed the big one. I don't know. Teamwork
- 6:13was a big was a big theme running throughout the eighties. It's like,
- 6:16Okay, we're all gonna come together as one kind of power rangers. Did
- 6:18I think they did that as well. They became one big power ranger.
- 6:24I don't remember clearly. We're off into an area where we're not very There's
- 6:28there's somebody listening that remembers what I'm talking about. But he was like it
- 6:30was a dude, and when he needed to fight off whatever he needed to
- 6:33fight off, he had a little clicker thing and he would push down on
- 6:36it and he would turn in this giant silver dude like with a helmet like.
- 6:43I can't remember the name of it, but that was dope. I
- 6:46love that thing anyway. Yeah, for some reason, I have no idea
- 6:50the one that you're talking about. If I saw it, i'd probably recognize
- 6:54it. Yeah. Yeah, if somebody's listening and remember that, email me
- 7:04or whatever. Email the show I feel like this has been like seven minutes,
- 7:09just absolutely wasted speaking of our age, but both in what we remember
- 7:17and what we don't. Yeah, that actually is pretty accurate. It's like,
- 7:21hey, remember this thing when we were kids that was really cool.
- 7:24It's like kinda but not really. So some of us are going like,
- 7:27I know that thing that was cool, and then the rest of us are
- 7:30like, kinda, but I don't remember it. You're right, that's the
- 7:32sweet spot of aging out of things. I remember something cool from my youth,
- 7:38but not very not very well. This segment of the Treehouse maybe not
- 7:42so proudly, but it is brought to you by the Dallas Comedy Club,
- 7:45where this weekend you can see Miles Weber. That's Friday and Saturday, December
- 7:48twenty second and twenty third at the Dallas Comedy Club. For ticket info,
- 7:51go to Dallas Dash Comedy Club dot com. That's Dallas Dash Comedy Club dot
- 7:57com. The Dallas Comedy Club in Deep Elam or New Home for Funny in
- 8:01DFW, the Dallas Comedy Club. Thank you to them. So yeah,
- 8:05things, speaking of things making a resurgence, obviously our memories are not one
- 8:11of them. But while it's still fresh in Raj's brain. I saw that
- 8:15the other day. You got a good look at the Von Erics because I
- 8:18guess you went to the eight w Wrestling event the other day. Yeah,
- 8:24you know, it's weird. It's one of those weird things how comedy works.
- 8:26And you get to be friends with people you got to watch growing up.
- 8:30And so I'm friends with a lot of these wrestlers and they were in
- 8:33town. So I hit him up and I was like, Hey, let's
- 8:37come to the show. So we went and it was also the big promo
- 8:41for it was the Von Erics return to Dallas, and I was like,
- 8:43that's amazing. And it was Kevin van Erk and his sons, Marshall and
- 8:48Ross that were coming back. And they did a little promo at the thing.
- 8:52It was behind the you know, it was behind the scenes. They
- 8:54just had him on the JumboTron. But it was really cool to see them,
- 8:58you know, back in Dallas. And at one point they get approached
- 9:03by another wrestler and they're like, hey, help, you know, have
- 9:05this three three way match tonight. So why don't you two guys his two
- 9:11sons, why don't you team up with me and we'll wrestle these guys,
- 9:15and I was like, Oh, this is gonna be great. And I
- 9:16didn't realize how much nostalgia was gonna happen, right, and uh, I
- 9:22knew it was going to be the first There's two segments. One's called Dynamite,
- 9:24one's called Rampage, and it was Rampage and the first set of three
- 9:31wrestlers come out. I can't remember there there's Jack Hagger and then I think
- 9:33it's Young Bucks that came out, and then Stranglehold by Ted Newtan starts playing,
- 9:39which was Kevin's old music from back in the day, and I literally
- 9:43got choked up. Oh, because yeah, I grew up. I grew
- 9:46up watching them, right. So we would go to this sportatorym like it
- 9:48was down like fifteen minutes from the house. So we would go to the
- 9:52Sportatorium all the time. And was there for the you know, David von
- 9:56Eeric memorial thing that they did at Texas Stadium was in both years, and
- 10:01his sons came out, uh, Marshall and Ross and it was just cool
- 10:05to see because it was Marshall I think is the oldest, I believe,
- 10:11and Ross is the youngest. Could it could be whatever, but uh,
- 10:15it was really nice, like he's a big like Marshall's is a big dude,
- 10:18like he's David David Vonn And most people don't realize it was like six
- 10:22seven six eight Jesus. Yeah, it was a big fellow. Uh.
- 10:26And he came out like they came out. It was. It was very
- 10:28reminiscent of like back in the day. Uh. And it was just really
- 10:33neat to see like that because just the tragedy of that family and then to
- 10:39see them come back into the wrestling fold it And they said this time I
- 10:43believe I thought I heard Irving, Texas, but they used to be from
- 10:48Denton, Texas. How they were, Uh. Last I remember watching a
- 10:52documentary on them a couple of years ago, and Kevin was living in Hawaii
- 10:58and basically had distanced himself from all things wrestling, but I didn't, and
- 11:03that they did say show his two sons were wrestling. I think they were
- 11:07like over in Japan or whatever. And he was very like you could tell
- 11:11he wasn't thrilled about it, but he also knew it was in their blood
- 11:13and there really wasn't a lot he could do about it. Yeah, I
- 11:16know that they sold their house in Hawaii, and I think that I think
- 11:20that there. I think they were been signed with AW full time and that's
- 11:24gonna be amazing if that happens. Well, honestly, the timing couldn't be
- 11:30better because they've got the movie coming out soon called The Iron Claw starring Zach
- 11:35Effron and some other folks and I when we were in town, Tara and
- 11:39I went and saw a movie and they had the trailer for it before the
- 11:43you know, our main feature, and the trailer looks phenomenal. Yes,
- 11:48they are like Oscar talk for Zach Efron for I believe he's Kevin, but
- 11:56yeah, it's a it was. Yeah the documentary that you talk, well,
- 12:00like they sold their house they're saying, I think either Denton, Texas
- 12:03or Irving, Texas. But they're here now, and I thin get with
- 12:05AW. I thought it was the same thing then, like it maybe just
- 12:07a part like to coincide with the movie releasing on December twenty second, which
- 12:11even that would be great. But I will say, like just watching them,
- 12:16like Marshall has he's got it, like the thing that they had,
- 12:22Yeah, the thing that they have, that thing, whatever that thing is,
- 12:26Uh, he's got it. Based on the movie trailer, it's it's
- 12:30abuse. He's got it. What's called it's called it's called abuse fueled talent.
- 12:41Well, they have a lot in coming with the Jackson Fife. So
- 12:46well, if you think about all those quot unquote great families, there's uh,
- 12:50there's always that. There's always almost always the dad. It's almost always
- 12:54it. Sometimes it might be a mom, but just almost always a dad
- 12:56who's pushing the family. Whether it's like the Venus and Serena Williams, whether
- 13:03it's and their dad or Tiger Woods's dad, Yes, von Eric's dad,
- 13:07the Jackson family, I mean, Jesus Kennedy's, I mean, all these
- 13:13great families, the Kennedy's, that's that's a nice one. Yeah, I
- 13:22know, I just just never put them in the like, I just can't
- 13:26see the Kennedy's whooping the same ass as like Joe Sins of the Father.
- 13:31Well, clearly you've never gone to any uh prep school New England prep school
- 13:37backyard wrestling events, maybe more accurately would be h New England prep school pe
- 13:46nuckle battles. Yeah, that's what that's why I see. It's like I
- 13:50don't understand, like Uh, you know, no caveat for you today.
- 13:54Son. It's like, oh I hate you Dad, and Joe Jackson is
- 13:56like hitting a kid with a bass guitar. They messed up the words to
- 14:01a song. That's a different kind of abuse. But yeah, I mean
- 14:07that that's that whole family and it's just the you know that the tragic but
- 14:11he's the kids got it. And then Ross, who's the other one,
- 14:15wants it like he he wants like he wants. He's got the he's got
- 14:18the size and the skill, but it's the charisma that comes with it,
- 14:22like it's the yeah, like he like your I immediately went to Marshall van
- 14:30Eric and he was he put on a they both all put on a great
- 14:33show. And at the end, like there was a there was a little
- 14:35uh tom foolery and shenanigans that happened at the end and that forced our men,
- 14:41Kevin van Eric to come out at the end. Uh and uh they
- 14:45all three administered the vicious claw. Uh and that was yeah, that was
- 14:50just like the cool you mentioned getting chills earlier. Hearing you say that all
- 14:54three administered that the iron claw actually got a chill. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:00does Marshall have you you say the it factor, like of the van Eric
- 15:03Carrey was the only one that really had the it factor as far as translating
- 15:07into national stardom. Yes, he was the only one that was ever even
- 15:09for w CCW. Who's the only one that was the heavyweight champion out of
- 15:13all the brothers And uh, he he's got it. He's got He's got
- 15:18David's height, so he's like six, Like he's taller than his dad.
- 15:20So he's like six six ish, blonde hair, big, super athletic.
- 15:26Russell's barefoot like his uh, like his old man. Uh. And at
- 15:30one point there was a great if you knew you knew, Like there was
- 15:33a little tribute kind of thing to all the brothers. Right, So at
- 15:37one point Marshall does the flying clothesline into the corner, which was Kevin's move.
- 15:43Uh. And he's fighting somebody else in the ring and he does the
- 15:46discus punch, which was Carrie's closing move. Uh. And then at the
- 15:52end they do the claw, which David was known to was after Fritz.
- 15:54David was the first one to do it. Uh. And so it was
- 15:58kind of an homage like if you knew was that? And like I again
- 16:02right there, I got choked up again. I was like, ah,
- 16:03man, that was awesome to watch, and I felt really bad because you
- 16:07know, it's a generational thing because when they announced them one air, it's
- 16:10like half the audience went bananas, and I remember the other half. I
- 16:12could hear the kids around us going like, who's that And it's just because
- 16:17you know, they've been gone for so long and all the I mean except
- 16:19for Kevin, everybody else is dead. So it is one of those things
- 16:22that I hope that this generation, like his two kids, bring that like
- 16:27popularity of what they contributed to this sport because you know, say what you
- 16:32want to say, but that guy, I mean WCCW out of Dallas,
- 16:36out of the Sportatorium, that Dungee Little whatever it was, was global,
- 16:40like they went like worldwide. So but yeah, it was just super cool
- 16:45to see that. I don't know if they'll ever do it again. I
- 16:47haven't seen them on any other lineups. They're gonna be in Oklahoma City next
- 16:49week, so I might go watch that one, but uh, the Vonns
- 16:52aren't listed on that one. You know. The thing it really just cracked
- 16:56me up about the old WCCW and this supportatorium. Is you want to talk
- 17:00about something that you could not do today because it played on every yeah,
- 17:07every racial stereotype. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah it was.
- 17:12Uh And if you go back and watch the old footage, like just people
- 17:15like chain smoking while people are trying to like people are trying to wrestle,
- 17:19they're just like throwing beer on people and then ordering another one. There's like
- 17:22a guy who's just coming through with like a milk crate full of styrofoam cup
- 17:27beers, and people like the smoking, and then like the von Aras would
- 17:30come to the ring that women would like make out with them, Like I
- 17:33think it's not Mark Lance, but Kevin man Kevin David Manning was the old
- 17:38referee, and they uh interviewed him and he's like, I haven't. He's
- 17:42like they had more sex walking to the ring than I've ever had in my
- 17:45life. I'm also surprised back in those days, and maybe they did,
- 17:53but I just didn't see it that they didn't actually use the lit cigarettes in
- 17:59the ring, like like put it out in somebody's eyeball or something. Yeah,
- 18:02that's it, so okay, So that's a different Like I don't understand
- 18:04even the even the planning of wrestling. What do you have to because you
- 18:07know, I asked these guys, you know, wrestling's fake. I'm like,
- 18:11okay, well you you take a barbed wire back to the face and
- 18:14you tell me if it's a make or not. Like they just know they're
- 18:15going to do it. And I've sat there before and I've talked to these
- 18:18guys and I'm like, so, what what's it like. It's like,
- 18:21oh, yeah, we just meet up in the afternoon, we go over
- 18:23the match and I'm like, okay, so you're like, hey, so
- 18:26I'm going to kick you in the nuts at some point, and they're like,
- 18:27yeah, sounds good. And then I'm gonna stab you in the head
- 18:30with a fork. It's like, all right, sounds good. All right,
- 18:32lunch, like how do you do? Like what what? Like what
- 18:33is the like It's like, right now, that's not typical office place water
- 18:38cooler. Yeah, I'm sure there were people going, hey, so why
- 18:42don't you do this? Like why don't you grab the guy's cigarette and then
- 18:45you know, just jab it in my forehead And then somebody had to go,
- 18:48okay, guys, we can't go that far, like you just got
- 18:51you stick to the barbed wire and setting them on fire. But we can't
- 18:52actually just put a cigarette butt out on somebody and don't forget you know that
- 18:56one of their big is they carried razor blades on it and then cut themselves.
- 19:00Yeah, yeah, you go. A lot of the old wrestlers,
- 19:03their foreheads they're just it's it looks like a UFC fighter's ear. I mean,
- 19:06they're just scar tissue. Yeah. Yeah. Well I was at uh.
- 19:08I was a match here for a WU a year and a half ago,
- 19:12and my buddy Lance Archer was fighting John Moxley and it was a barb
- 19:17wire match and there was barboire everywhere and again when I bring up the fork,
- 19:21at some point a fork just came out of John Moxley's but he started
- 19:23stabbing my buddy in the head. So I asked him the next day,
- 19:26Wait, he pulled out of his boot, right, Yeah, pulled a
- 19:30fork. Okay, for a second, I thought you said, okay,
- 19:33no, that would be hilarious. But also don't say that now because somebody's
- 19:37gonna hear this and go to somebody in the a's like, pull out of
- 19:38your butt, and they're like, sounds good, but out of his boot
- 19:42and started and I asked Lance. I was like, how did that conversation
- 19:45start? He just goes, Moxley walked in as I was lacing on my
- 19:48boots and goes, I'm going to use this, and Lence goes all right,
- 19:52and then he just walked out like he didn't say how, he didn't
- 19:55say what he was gonna do. It didn't sound like he was asking permission.
- 19:59He just says, I'm going to use this, yeah, and uh.
- 20:00And the best part is that we were at Bluefish having sushi and I'm
- 20:04talking and I forget people don't know what it. So he's done the same
- 20:08thing where he's cut himself repeatedly, and then there's just fork. I mean
- 20:12just you can see where he's been stabbed in the head multiple times of the
- 20:17fork and we're ordering sushi and the guy who's taking our order just keeps staring
- 20:21at his head and I go, uh, and because we were laughing and
- 20:25cutting up and whatever, and I just looked at him and go, hey,
- 20:26man, you're bleeding from one of the fork stabs and the gun and
- 20:30I said it out loud and the guy just kind of looks at me,
- 20:33like, what did you guys get into before you guys got the bluefish at
- 20:37the galleria. You should have you should have gone. That's why I were
- 20:41eating sushi because they can't trust him with forks stick on the meal. You're
- 20:52listening to. The Treehouse visits online That Treehouse on air dot com this week

- 21:36man, if you're a Disney kid, your parents were together. If
- 21:37you were a Nick kid, you had two Christmases and didn't give up.
- 21:41Okay, yeah, there's no weather. You were watching Red and Stempy and
- 21:45you were supervised, absolutely or not. No, that kid was alone with
- 21:49hot pockets. And just a wish at the end of the day. That's

- 22:42It is not lost on me that our Treehouse resident wrestling expert is a first
- 22:56generation Indian immigrant Hindu from Gonna. Yeah, my mom were the backstory to
- 23:03it real fast before I share my joy because I found something and my mom
- 23:11worked the er overnight at Mesqie Community Hospital. So instead of taking whenever the
- 23:17wrestlers got injured at this pontorium, instead of taking them to Baylor which was
- 23:19right across the street. All the fans would show up for Baylor, assuming
- 23:22they would be there, they would take them to Mesquite Community. So my
- 23:26mom bandaged all these guys up. So she was literally known as the mean
- 23:30Indian Lady because she was how was she had got a character at the sportatorium
- 23:37making making appearances, she would have been she would have been so mad.
- 23:41She would have she would have beat everybody with the shoe. There would have
- 23:42been nothing fake or planned about that. She would have whooped everybody's ass with
- 23:47her shoe, all five foot three. And I remember it was Again it
- 23:51sounds weird, but Roddy Roddy Piper started doing stand up in LA at the
- 23:55same time I had moved, and so we would be at the comedy store
- 23:57and we got to be friends, and I was just like, hey,
- 24:00you came through and did that circuit and like, yeah, did you ever
- 24:03know you got hurt and you had to go? Do you ever go to
- 24:04Mesquite Community Hospital? He's like, yeah, A couple of times. Normally
- 24:07I would go to Baylor, and he liked it because he would sign autographs
- 24:10on the way and like his head's bleeding and he's just signing autographs looks cool.
- 24:15Did you ever meet the because I've known a couple of wrestlers that were
- 24:18like the mean Indian lady and He's like, yes, she hated us,
- 24:22and I was like, yeah, that's my mom, so Yeahanna. Her
- 24:30favorite was David Vonnier. He was the most polite Dan. I would like
- 24:34to point out, though, in your intro of you know that our wrestling
- 24:38expert is first generation Indian Hindu, you know, and all that makes it
- 24:42sound you know, and then you said from Mesquite, which then you go,
- 24:45yeah, okay, well of course he would be at wrestling expert.
- 24:48That's why I had to make sure to include it, because all the things
- 24:52preceding it don't add up. Once you say from Mesquite, then everyone's like,
- 24:59ah, now I get it. It makes sense. What that shows
- 25:03you is the power of Mesquite and and and the pull and the influence it
- 25:10can have on on many a young children. My first job, my first
- 25:15job was at the Mesquite Rodeo. It was my first job. It sounds
- 25:18like at least like concessions. I was your I don't know about the wrestling
- 25:26expert, but you two my friends. I don't like to brag about certain
- 25:29things. But you guys are staring at the four time uh number one Freedo
- 25:36pie salesman at the Mesquite Rodeo four weeks in a row. Your boy here
- 25:42sold the most Freedo pies out of anybody in concessions? Did that really take
- 25:48skill? Selling Freedo pie at the rodeo and Mesquite? How hard it is
- 25:52to sell week old chili? Yes, it was the same chili from the
- 25:56like if we don't if we didn't finish it, we just put it in
- 26:00the vat and into the freezer. I just assumed it was the like the
- 26:03meat in the chili was from the bowl that didn't do so well the week
- 26:06before. I wouldn't be surprised or the rider, Look I would, I
- 26:10wouldn't be Uh yeah, I wouldn't be surprised at all. Yeah, it
- 26:17was. It was great. I sold the popcorn when we would sell,
- 26:22our manager will go if they come back and just give them their money,
- 26:23I'm like, is it that bad? They're like, you don't want to
- 26:26eat it? Like it was just there. However long the season, Like
- 26:29they popped that popcorn once and then however long the season went. Is how
- 26:33long those boxes stayed up there, and then the next year is when they
- 26:37would same same cheese. Like they if we didn't finish the nacho chase,
- 26:41they poured it right back in the container, back in the freezer. Uh.
- 26:45And then it was the next week you had to set it out the
- 26:47thaw and then you put it in the chafing dish and let it bubble.
- 26:51Uh. Yeah, but four weeks in a row, and I got to
- 26:53really help that. They've made improvements since then as well, But I will
- 27:00I will tell you. They did give me a twenty five dollars gift card
- 27:03to Don Gay's Steakhouse. Let me tell you. Yeah, let me tell
- 27:07you what that bought you back then. Uh, not a goddamn thing.
- 27:11I didn't get you anything, like nothing. I think I got a glass
- 27:15of water. But I did get to be dumb Gay, which was hilarious
- 27:21because that was the first time I was taller than anybody. Does that say,
- 27:23he's like II five Yeah, if that, I will be five to
- 27:29five with his cowboy boots on. So you take off the three in cheels.
- 27:32He's like, it's like Prince was he five to one or was he
- 27:34four ten? Like, let's be honest. Prince was technically a little person.
- 27:41He technically was like he wore six in cheals and don gay like you
- 27:45doing a great job selling free pass. I was like, is this what
- 27:48opportunity is? Free? There's no photo. I don't know what we're doing.
- 27:51Did word get back to you? I know what it was? Or
- 27:53it was like to boost morale? And I was just like, I'm taller
- 27:56than this fellow, all right. I felt like I was like, there's
- 28:00hope for me in the NFL yet if he's a champion ball rider, I'm
- 28:03playing for the Cowboys. He gave me hope in a twenty five dollars gift
- 28:08card. That's what I. Oh God. But to go back to the
- 28:14beginning of the segment, at the beginning of the first segment, when I
- 28:18was talking about like giant dude, silver guy with the helmet, Yeah found
- 28:22him. Uh it was. His name is Kiodi Hero, which translates in
- 28:30Japanese to giant Hero, or as we called him here, Ultraman. Oh.
- 28:37I remember, okay, Yeah, I remember Ultraman Yeah. Yeah.
- 28:40That was the joint man. That was the coolest thing back then. He
- 28:41had the little thing that you click and then he would turn into that guy
- 28:45and I'm like, yeah, I found him. So just a sense of
- 28:48accomplishment. Congratulations, Raj, You've taken learned how to search the internet for
- 28:55something that you were trying to find out. Do you know how hard it
- 28:57is when you just type in Japanese silver man, There's a lot of things
- 29:00that pop up. It's a very brave search term that. Yeah, now
- 29:10I have to clear out there in your history. Yeah, I'm not gonna
- 29:12clear my history. I don't want to die with that. Like, what
- 29:15was he looking at? Some weird stuff? What was the last thing he
- 29:18looked for? Oh, I got it. Just start with Japanese and you're
- 29:23you know already it's like it's weird stuff, giant and silver Japanese. This
- 29:33guy was drinking. But yeah, I'm glad I found that. Well,
- 29:40I'm glad that you can now rest easy. How about that? Yes,
- 29:45Ultra Man. Now I have to go back and watch episodes. That's how
- 29:48my brain works. Now. I have to watch at least a couple episodes
- 29:51after we get done. I'm I'm I'm really hesitant to go back and watch
- 29:55things from my youth that I haven't seen in a really long time because I'm
- 30:00afraid they won't hold up because I've done that before and I ended up disappointed.
- 30:04I mentioned it before, you know, Dukes of Hazzard is one of
- 30:07those classic examples where I loved that show as a kid, and then they
- 30:14started re airing episodes of it on CMT back in the you know, like
- 30:18I don't know, like fifteen twenty years ago, and I watched a couple
- 30:22of episodes, thinking like, oh, this is great. I'm gonna watch
- 30:26this. You know this this is before you know, all the tea,
- 30:27all the different streaming services and stuff, and it's like, I'm gonna go
- 30:32back and rewatch this. This is gonna be awesome. And Roscoe and Boss
- 30:36Hog and the Duke Boys and even Coy and Vance during the contract dispute,
- 30:40It's gonna be awesome. You get Daisy and the Jeep and I go back
- 30:44and I watched like five minutes into an episode, and I am appalled,
- 30:48like this is awful. How did this ever make television in the first place.
- 30:53It's like, my god, the threshold for getting on TV in the
- 30:57eighties was apparently so low. Yeah, that show just did not hold up.
- 31:03So I'm very cautious to go back and rewatch things to see if they
- 31:07actually hold up, because yeah, I mean I went back and I was
- 31:10I was like, let me watch Godzilla versus Mathra because I love that one.
- 31:12That was one of my favorites. And I'm like, oh, you
- 31:15can see the wires, like you can see the wires on god'sillas and flying
- 31:18through the air. I'm like, Okay, that's whatever, but yeah,
- 31:21you can actually see a hole in the suit of god'zilly. You can see
- 31:23like the guy's toes sticking out, yeah, where he has to breathe.
- 31:29But yeah, go back, like, go watch hehaw. You want to
- 31:32talk about something that doesn't hold up? Like that was a tough one.
- 31:36I watched like two episodes and I was like, wow, that's like really
- 31:38sad, misogynistic, racist show. Ye I was bad then. I think
- 31:45that was kind of its formula. I was a buck Owens and uh god,
- 31:52well what was the lady with the hat mini pearl, Mini pearl?
- 31:56Yeah, I mean I was my dad, my mom that Roy Clark,
- 32:00that show Roy Clark Man. Absolutely, they love that show. Then I
- 32:04was like, I was like, I love the jokes when they would pop
- 32:06up in the cornfield and tell Joe, I'm like, yeah, I want
- 32:08to be a comic too. And then I watched it, like literally,
- 32:10I think we watched a couple of episodes like maybe six months ago, and
- 32:14I was like, oh, this is terrible, Like I can't believe this
- 32:17was on the or perhaps your friends at the rodeo took you for a real
- 32:21adventure into a into a cornfield and you realize this is not what I thought
- 32:24it was going to be. Is this a stand up I want done?
- 32:32Gay? Yeah? But it was. Uh, I worry about that too.
- 32:38But you but then again, you'll watch a Christmas Story every year,
- 32:40and that's that's different because there there has never been a gap. There hasn't
- 32:45been like a twenty or thirty year gap in that in that in those viewings
- 32:50of a Christmas to you guys rented it every year. Then it was always
- 32:57on TV. I don't think it was always is on TV. It always
- 33:00felt like it was. I mean because I remember, you know, because
- 33:04I think that movie when did it first come out? Was it this?
- 33:08It was early eighties when it first came out, wasn't it? Yeah?
- 33:10I mean, since I since the inception of all the Turner networks, Yeah,
- 33:15I believe it has been on the air every year. Yeah, so
- 33:17I never felt without when it came to the when it came to a Christmas
- 33:22story, I'm with you that that's a bad movie. Yes, thank you,
- 33:29thank you. That's why you've always been my favorite. I do not
- 33:35get people's love of that movie. It's a terrible movie. I'm like,
- 33:37even like when I watched them, like my immigrant father could say, fragile
- 33:45for gila, that's the dumb like, right, I mean, that was
- 33:47just dumb right there. I was like, And then I'm like, I
- 33:51have known people that would look at that box and they also would have said,
- 33:55fred Gila, it must be Italian. No, you don't. If
- 34:00you did, that's who traded you off in a Walmart parking lot. That's
- 34:02why. That's what. That's who you know. That's the only people I
- 34:07could look. I looked saying that they were not high quality individuals. To
- 34:10understand. My dad was an English tutor in India and he spelled tomorrow t
- 34:20a marrow. And I'm like, how many people did you mess up?
- 34:22Like, how many people did you mess up? And he could say fragile.
- 34:27I'm like, come on, man, yeah, And then I'm like
- 34:30with the bb gun. I'm like a hope he murders the whole family,
- 34:31and then he didn't. I'm like, let's go waste of a movie.
- 34:35If you want to remake the movie, make it with a real make it
- 34:37with today's weapons, like Jesus. Now, that's a Christmas story to remember.
- 34:46It's a it's a preecent war fever dream type of thing s against the
- 34:52backdrop of Christmas. Okay, see now now we're talking with another movie we
- 34:59have to write. So basically, you just want die Hard but with a
- 35:01kid, yes, or Scarf. I was thinking Scarface with Santa f.
- 35:22You're listening to The Treehouse. Visit us online that Treehouse on air dot com.
- 35:31Let's get Daniel Cook into the Treehouse now from COOKDFW Roofing and Restoration.
- 35:36Their phone number for your free roof inspection eight three three COOKIDFW the website cookdfw
- 35:40dot com. So Daniel, I know, you go out to someone's house,
- 35:43you do that free roof inspection, let them know good, bad,
- 35:46ugly with the roof, and you're honest about it. You take photos and
- 35:50explain everything. But if someone just wants to kind of eyeball it themselves not
- 35:52go on the roof, because I know you don't recommend that that's your job.
- 35:55But if I'm just walking around the outside of the house, what should
- 35:58I be looking for to see if there's possibly a problem. Things that a
- 36:01homeowner might be able to see from the ground would be miss missing shingles,
- 36:05obviously, if you see some gaps in the shingles, or if you see
- 36:07some black underlayment, that means some shingles had blown off. If you've seen
- 36:13maybe some of the ventilation folded or maybe you know, bent backwards or anything
- 36:17like that. You also might see around the perimeter you might see some of
- 36:23the metal drip edge or flashings maybe loose. But you know, from the
- 36:28ground, it's it's hard to see a lot of these homes here in North
- 36:31Texas. And so, you know, the old days, the homes were
- 36:34really easy to get up on. They were just a four or five pitch
- 36:37gable roof and jump. Everybody would jump up there and fix their own roofs
- 36:39or or look at it and see when they had a problem. And now
- 36:43these days you just can't do that. And so yeah, I still think
- 36:45it's easier just to give us a call. You know, it's no problem
- 36:50for us to come out. We take thirty or forty five minutes of our
- 36:52time, you know, make an assessment, take some pictures, like you
- 36:54said. We just did that this week. A guy off a royal lane
- 36:59called us out, extremely heavy pitch roof. He said, my neighbors have
- 37:02been getting roos replaced, and I don't I don't think I have any problems.
- 37:06We jump up there and he had one of his exhaust vents, the
- 37:08cap of it completely was blown off, and so he just had a hole
- 37:12in his exhaust and so water from rain was just pouring down in that exhaust
- 37:15vent. Yeah, no idea. You couldn't see it from the ground.
- 37:17So those are the kind of things that we do. We're gonna make sure
- 37:21your home is safe. And and like we told him, you know,
- 37:23you're fortunate, sir, you don't have a lot of roof damage, but
- 37:25you didn't need this done because it was gonna cause you a lot of problems
- 37:29down the road. So and that, and that to me is one of
- 37:30the that's one of the key factors right there, is to try to avoid
- 37:34a major problem down the line. Called Daniel Cook and his guys to come
- 37:37out take a look at the house now so you can avoid a major problem
- 37:40down the line. So give him a call eight three three Cook DFW for
- 37:44the free roof inspection eight three three Cook DFW and cookdfw dot com. It's
- 37:49the street house. Let's talk to Jacqueline from Brooks Plumbing right now in the
- 37:53treehouse. Their phone number for any and all of you are plumbing once and
- 37:55needs two one to four, three six, eight thirty eight thirty eight.
- 37:59The website Plumbing Texas dot com. Jacqueline for someone that's that's currently in their
- 38:02house, what are some good smart upgrades they could make with their plumbing?
- 38:09I think, I mean, I'm trying to think about. I think the
- 38:14number one thing that I can think of right now would be a floodstop.
- 38:16So, especially if your water heater is located in your attic, the last
- 38:22thing you want it to do is burst and you come home and it's just
- 38:24raining in your house. That have had that happen to many many people,
- 38:29And people are like, oh, the solution is a tankless water heater.
- 38:31Yeah, that's definitely an option, but it's very very expensive. But for
- 38:35a couple hundred dollars, we can put in a floodstop where there's a sensor
- 38:37that sits underneath your your water heater and if it detects any moisture, it
- 38:42just shuts it off for you. And what more could you ask for than
- 38:45to have basically it's like water heater AI, just to have a little robot
- 38:49homie that's like not here today. And in case it does, or you
- 38:52want to prevent it from happening, then you give Jaqueline from Brooks Plumbing a
- 38:55call right now two one four three six eight thirty eight thirty eight. Or
- 38:59of course explaining Texas dot com. You're listening to the Treehouse. Visit us
- 39:06online at Treehouse on Air dot com. This segment of the Treehouse is brought
- 39:14to you by our friends at Brooks Plumbing. Brooks Plumbing, the phone number
- 39:17for any and all of your plumbing wants and needs is two one four three
- 39:21six eight thirty eight thirty eight. That's two one four three six eight thirty
- 39:24eight thirty eight. The website Brooks Plumbing, Texas dot com. Speaking of
- 39:35Christmas and various goings on with it, there was a story I so I
- 39:44wanted to throw at you, gentlemen, if I can find the damn thing,
- 39:52Uh there is. Don't get distracted, but this did happen in Florida.
- 39:57Okay, we need to just have one segment that's all news stories from
- 40:02Florida. I'm with you. You can actually do an entire episode of that
- 40:07weekly Florida man got agitated my neighborhood Christmas parade, so we fired off several
- 40:15gunshots. Yeah nice, damn your cheer. See this is the Hallmark movie
- 40:22that I think we all are craving. Yes, Like, let's have a
- 40:31Hallmark movie where the big city girl comes to the country town in Florida.
- 40:37And that's the inciting incident of the film is she returns home and sees and
- 40:43sees her her old ex high school boyfriend shooting at the kids doing the Christmas
- 40:46parade in front of his house. Let them find love with that starting point.
- 40:54If you can make that work, you'll have no obstacles in your relationship.
- 41:00I'm probably not. A Florida man was arrested after he allegedly fired off
- 41:06several shots during a neighborhood Christmas parade because he became agitated at what parade goers
- 41:10were doing. That's according to Deputies Douglas Moore, forty three was arrested and
- 41:15charged with six counts have aggravated assault with a firearm, reckless discharge of a
- 41:21firearm, and using a firearm while under the influence of alcohol after the incident
- 41:25that unfolded this past Saturday. According to an arrest David from the Clay County
- 41:31Sheriff's Office, as the Middleburg Christmas Parade was underway, deputies and SWAT team
- 41:37members responded to the location along the parade route after several gunshots were heard.
- 41:42If you're curious, Middlebird is located about thirty miles southwest of Jacksonville, not
- 41:47far from where we were driving our van full of stuff. So I've seen
- 41:55where this man lives. Yeah, I'm not surprised. Yeah, I've I've
- 42:01been to Jacksonville and it is a yeah. It's it's on the water there.
- 42:08It's got the pretty lights on the buildings and stuff. But it's just
- 42:10the stadium is beautiful. Yeah. And then and then you leave that area
- 42:15and within minutes it's like, oh, okay, well it's I mean,
- 42:20it's one of those things that you got to keep Yeah, I mean,
- 42:22it's one of those things you got to keep in mind when it comes to
- 42:24you know, to to Florida in general. It especially if you're flying over
- 42:29it at a low enough altitude that's Florida. You get a really good idea
- 42:35of it. You see maybe a really kind of cool looking city from the
- 42:37air, but then you're reminded that right outside the city is a swap.
- 42:45Yeah, it's like this. It's like the it's like the I would say
- 42:51the governor Ron, it's like, we're gonna give We're gonna we're gonna give
- 42:55Jacksonville however much money this year for whatever projects that they need to do.
- 43:00How much they need a billion dollars? Cool, give all of it except
- 43:04for three dollars to the rest of the city, all of it to downtown,
- 43:07and all of it to the upgrade the upkeeping of the nice touristy parts.
- 43:10And then everybody else gets a nickel. Like that's what everybody gets.
- 43:15Just mail everybody a nickel. That's all we gotta do. Uh. Yeah,
- 43:20it's uh. And I just love the idea. I hope because six
- 43:22six counts of aggravated assault, that's gonna be uh, that's gonna be a
- 43:27long time in jail, and so I hope that he's there long enough to
- 43:30be in charge of the Charristmas parade in jail. Pretty sure a parade in
- 43:37jail is a very different parade than the ones we're used to seeing on television.
- 43:40Trust me, he'll be more than agitated. I believe that's called a
- 43:45train. He's like, I'm the kaboos. Look, Hey, I'm glad.
- 44:02I saw you as a little engine that could and did, and we'll
- 44:07never forget. See, we managed to find a happy ending in this very
- 44:17sad story. It's a gift that we're all blessed with and we share it
- 44:28with you inside the tree Coming up next time in the Treehouse, I believe
- 44:34we've got a football show that'll be on tap. Excited for that and of
- 44:37course the Fridday episode later on this week, So stay right here inside the
- 44:43Treehouse all week long.
