Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Look, this might sound a little bit patronizing, but this
- 0:02Speaker 1: country needs a positive mindset. We need our number eight wire.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Fix it, don't moan about it attitude in New Zealand's
- 0:09Speaker 1: and the doldrums trumps that wore in the Middle East
- 0:11Speaker 1: oils choked up Shijingping talking overnight about Taiwan again. And
- 0:16Speaker 1: for some perspective, if Taiwan kicks off, which some in
- 0:19Speaker 1: the intelligence community reckon would happen as early as next year,
- 0:23Speaker 1: then things will change pretty quickly. The world could be
- 0:25Speaker 1: held to ransom over semiconductors, not oil. Global GDP could
- 0:29Speaker 1: drop five percent. That's COVID era GFC level stuff. And
- 0:34Speaker 1: for US some sort of quarantine or blockade would be
- 0:37Speaker 1: very bad. China is our number one trading partner, twenty
- 0:40Speaker 1: to twenty five percent of our exports, and we're an
- 0:42Speaker 1: export nation. If they do what everyone expects that they
- 0:45Speaker 1: will do, then they'd be Western sanctions. And what happens
- 0:48Speaker 1: to our goods when there's Western sanctions? The tap gets
- 0:51Speaker 1: turned off or we turned a blind eye, but that's
- 0:54Speaker 1: highly unlikely. When I lived in Beijing, Taiwan was a
- 0:58Speaker 1: constant topic of conversation along with high because well They're
- 1:01Speaker 1: very important to the Chinese, not just for historical reasons
- 1:04Speaker 1: but strategic ones. Their entire eastern seaboard, which is within
- 1:09Speaker 1: spitting distance by the way of Beijing, their political center, Shanghai,
- 1:12Speaker 1: Commercial center, manufacturing, heavy industry, port cities all along that coastline,
- 1:17Speaker 1: and across the Pacific Ocean sits America. So any buffer
- 1:21Speaker 1: is a good buffer, thank you very much. This is
- 1:24Speaker 1: not to say we should freak out, but that we
- 1:27Speaker 1: should be prepared and stay positive. Greg Faran had covided
- 1:31Speaker 1: in New Zealand. Nicol Ravashanka's got a jet fuel crisis.
- 1:34Speaker 1: The next guy will have something else. The hits won't
- 1:37Speaker 1: stop coming. The world is smaller and dependent on each
- 1:41Speaker 1: other via global trade, and that means that a coffin
- 1:43Speaker 1: Taiwan means a cold and Southland, New Zealand. The best
- 1:46Speaker 1: we can do is diversify ourselves II India and keep
- 1:51Speaker 1: a positive mindset. Solutions, Solutions, Pivot and Solutions for more
