- 0:11What's going on everybody? It is Wednesday, Wednesday's Q&A
- 0:14day. Remember, if you have a
- 0:16question, if you have a topic, if you want something brought up
- 0:19on the next episode, next Wednesday that is down below in
- 0:23the comments, simply type out your question.
- 0:26We got 5 great questions. Again, one took a lot of thought
- 0:30for me and I'm not 100% sure if I got it right.
- 0:34I think, I think I'm confident with what I'm going to say, but
- 0:40I am excited to share my thoughts nonetheless.
- 0:44By the way, my friends over at Auction Wire sent me this shirt.
- 0:49It's not just the card, it's the chase.
- 0:53I love the Chase. Thank you to Mark for sending
- 0:57this to me. Very cool shirt.
- 1:00All right, let's go ahead and take a look at our first
- 1:03question right here. This first question says Greg.
- 1:08What do you think of false comps being created from the house?
- 1:12Phantom seller protection bidding?
- 1:15Shell bidding versus using reserves?
- 1:18It seems to me to be a real problem to gauge the market on
- 1:22less common cards. An auction market consists of
- 1:26two or more buyers and a seller, not a single buyer, and a
- 1:31seller's desire for a specific price.
- 1:34These in house protection bids are skewing the market comps
- 1:39upward on less common cards at auction.
- 1:43Between that and repacks, I fear we might be in trouble if those
- 1:48go away and the market corrects. That said, I do understand the
- 1:53desire to have most lots no reserve as a lot.
- 1:57Of people just. Pass reserve auctions by in most
- 2:02cases. All right, what do I think of
- 2:06shield bidding? I think it's it's garbage.
- 2:10I think it's messed up. The problem is that, you know,
- 2:15one person might be willing to pay a ton, but how much is the
- 2:19second person willing to pay? See, and this is one of the
- 2:23things that I've I've mentioned for a long, long time is when
- 2:26I'm looking at comps, when I am looking at recent sales, is a
- 2:31best offer a good comp? Is the best offer a good comp?
- 2:35Because you know, I've bought cards from Golden, just not at
- 2:40auction. Just there, there are cards just
- 2:42straight up for sale on Golden. I've done that on Fanatics.
- 2:45I've done that on eBay. And those cards go into the
- 2:49database for comps. They go into the sales history.
- 2:53Now, was I the only person willing to pay that price?
- 2:57Possibly. Were there other people willing
- 2:59to pay that price or more possibly.
- 3:02But what an auction is supposed to do in theory, When I look at
- 3:07a sales history and I see one that says auction, what that
- 3:11should tell me what that should mean is two people were were
- 3:15were willing to pay that price. But there's no doubt that chill
- 3:21bidding is going on. There is absolutely no doubt.
- 3:25And I don't want to get in. I don't, I don't want to start
- 3:30getting too far into the weeds here, but there have been a
- 3:32couple of episodes, a couple of videos specifically that have
- 3:37come out in not just videos, news stories and episodes that
- 3:46I've heard where people have talked fairly openly about the
- 3:51shield bidding that has happened, that they've that
- 3:53they've done. That's definitely a problem.
- 3:57It is absolutely a problem that shill bidding is taking place
- 4:02because what it does is it throws out the theory that two
- 4:07people are willing to pay a certain price.
- 4:09Now my thought is this. If I am in an auction, I have to
- 4:13restrain myself. I have to find my Max and I have
- 4:18to set at my Max. And if that means I don't get
- 4:20the card, that means I don't get the card, Especially nowadays
- 4:25when it, I mean some of the rules of many of the auction
- 4:30houses allow in house bidding, they allow them to bid the card
- 4:36up. So what happens if it doesn't
- 4:39sell? Will they just pull it?
- 4:42I think what sales history of auctions used to mean.
- 4:47Versus what sales? History of auctions means now is
- 4:52probably not the same thing. Now I'm not naive enough to
- 4:55think that she'll bending is a more recent thing that's not
- 4:58like this just started. This has been happening for a
- 5:01long time, but I think now that the values are getting to where
- 5:05the values are at, I think that it's very likely that it is
- 5:11happening as much if not more than ever.
- 5:14The other thing is people are using auction houses more than
- 5:17they used to. So if somebody submits a card to
- 5:21an auction house and the card is like it's late in the auction
- 5:27and it's going low, I think people probably just call up
- 5:30their friends. They might sounds like they
- 5:33might even be using their own accounts to bid on the card.
- 5:38So what is my take away? Do I think it's wrong?
- 5:42I do think that it's wrong. I think that it's illegal.
- 5:47I think that it is manipulating the comp history and that's why
- 5:52a lot of the times if you see one card that went way out of
- 5:56bounds, it's possible that it got shilled up.
- 6:01So does that mean that auctions no longer are valuable?
- 6:05No. Does that mean that buy it nows
- 6:09are the only way to go? No.
- 6:12You have to remember if there is shilling going on, that means at
- 6:16least one person, I mean hypothetically, was willing to
- 6:21pay that price. In theory, it should be two
- 6:24people were willing to pay that price.
- 6:26It's really the amount that the second highest bidder is willing
- 6:29to pay. That's what it should mean.
- 6:32But it's getting to the point now where I think you have to
- 6:34just take it with a grain of salt.
- 6:36At the end of the day, I think one of the things that has
- 6:39happened in the hobby over the last few years is comps help.
- 6:44They do help. At least they help me.
- 6:46But comps aren't everything. What they are is they are a data
- 6:52point. You can see a trend in the
- 6:53comps. You can get an idea of what's
- 6:56happening. And for me they're very helpful,
- 7:00but I take them with a grain of salt.
- 7:02I don't say well the last one sold for 50,000 and before that
- 7:08they all sold for 500. I guess it's worth 50,000 now.
- 7:11That's not how I take it. So I think the take away here
- 7:17for me is don't get too caught up in the data point of a comp.
- 7:27It provides some information. It does not provide all of the
- 7:32information. And if shield bidding is
- 7:35happening and there are some auction houses that don't allow
- 7:39it, I mean, one of the reasons that I've been talking up and
- 7:42partnering with CIA is because and, and I got Theo coming on
- 7:46again in a couple of days to do an auction preview.
- 7:49And one of the things I like about CIA is they don't do shell
- 7:53bidding. They don't allow it.
- 7:55They don't allow in house shell bidding.
- 7:57And so that to me makes them a more reliable auction house.
- 8:04So that said, I'm not going to like quit the hobby or quit
- 8:10using auction houses. What I'm always going to do is
- 8:13I'm going to find my Max, and even if the comps are above my
- 8:19Max or below my Max, I have to find the price that I feel
- 8:23comfortable spending on the card.
- 8:26And then I have to set my price. I have to stick to it and I need
- 8:31to be willing to walk away. There are times that cards get
- 8:35shield up and there's still a good deal.
- 8:37There are times that cards get shield up and people end up
- 8:40overpaying. We've got to stay focused on
- 8:44what we think the right prices given all the data that we have,
- 8:50and stick to it and don't get caught up in the competition of
- 8:55the auction itself. To me, that's the biggest take
- 8:59away. But is it a problem?
- 9:01Absolutely. Does it make you think twice
- 9:05when you see certain comps in certain sales histories?
- 9:09100%. But we just have to stay
- 9:13disciplined. We have to continue to bid
- 9:16within our means and we have to not get carried away.
- 9:20I think that bid history still matters.
- 9:23I think that in most cases, there's probably not shell
- 9:27bidding, but does it happen occasionally?
- 9:30I do think it happens more than some people might think, and I
- 9:36also think that we have to take comps with a grain of salt and
- 9:41trust our gut. This one says As for AQ and a Do
- 9:47you feel as a collector in the hobby that all these different
- 9:50refractors is a in a new set or a good thing?
- 9:54For me, I think it's a waste of time and the different same card
- 9:57with different backdrop is a waste of time.
- 10:01I only collect Hall of Fame vintage players that I like from
- 10:05the 50s to the wax era and a few players today like Judge.
- 10:12All right, so I talked about this a little bit on Monday.
- 10:15On Monday I kind of went into, you know, my thoughts on modern
- 10:19cards and parallels and refractors and numbered cards.
- 10:23And I think to a certain extent they have, I, I think there is a
- 10:29cool factor to it. But I do think that some of the
- 10:33manufacturers and some of the lines have gotten carried away.
- 10:37I mean, the zebra print and tiger print and swirly ball, you
- 10:41know, it's gotten a little bit nuts.
- 10:45I think there are some refractors that have a long
- 10:50tradition of, of being somewhat consistent and, and, and
- 10:58they're, they've, they've been around for a while.
- 11:01So the red refractor out of five, I like it.
- 11:07The gold refractor out of 50 like it.
- 11:12I am even on board with, you know, the orange out of 25 and
- 11:17the Super refractor, but the newer ones that they're just
- 11:21kind of thrown in there that is kind of throwing everything off.
- 11:26I think that we've probably gotten a little bit carried
- 11:28away, but from the perspective of the manufacturers, they've
- 11:32got such high print runs. They're manufacturing so many
- 11:36cards that if they don't have more inserts, then when you open
- 11:42boxes there won't be anything. Because if there's only 50
- 11:47numbered cards or 100 number cards and and all of a sudden
- 11:51you don't get one, then you got a box that's just a brick.
- 11:54At least according to the modern hobby at this point, it feels
- 11:58that way. So I do see the dilemma.
- 12:03I think the insane number of factors has gotten carried away.
- 12:08I understand why they want to continue to print because
- 12:11there's money to be made, but I do think that it's gotten a
- 12:17little bit nuts with how many different refractors and
- 12:21variations there are that I don't take most of them serious.
- 12:26Personally, I don't take. Most of them seriously, but the
- 12:31Super factor out of five, out of 25, out of 50, out of 100 or 99,
- 12:38I think those are kind of mainstays.
- 12:40So that's how I see it now. Again, it doesn't matter what I
- 12:45think matters what you think. If you don't like it, I mean,
- 12:49you said in the question that you think it's a waste of time,
- 12:52then don't buy it. Then don't buy it.
- 12:55That's simple. If you see a camo print parallel
- 13:01and you think it's cool, then buy it.
- 13:04If you think it's dumb, then don't buy it.
- 13:06That's one of the things that I really hope that we can all come
- 13:10to a common ground on is other people love something in the
- 13:15hobby that you don't like, and that's normal.
- 13:21I don't like the Raiders. It's nothing against the
- 13:24Raiders. I just don't like the Raiders
- 13:27because I grew up in Northern California as a 49er fan and you
- 13:30can't be a 49er fan and like the Raiders.
- 13:33That doesn't mean people who like the Raiders.
- 13:36Are. Are wrong for their team.
- 13:38They're not doing anything wrong.
- 13:41They have their team and they probably hate the 49ers and
- 13:44that's OK. I've said this many times, if we
- 13:47all agreed on everything, this would be insanely boring.
- 13:52But we don't agree on everything, and that's what
- 13:55makes it fun. This next one says.
- 13:59What would be your? All time MLB team.
- 14:03Who would you want to be on your super team?
- 14:06One player per position, 5 starters, 2 relievers, 1 closer,
- 14:13one manager, 1 stadium and one mascot.
- 14:20All right, I put some thought into this.
- 14:23You guys are not going to like all of my picks, but.
- 14:29They're my picks, so. Down below in the comments you
- 14:32can tell me where I'm wrong and I'm OK with that.
- 14:35So what I'm going to do is I'm going to put up on the.
- 14:37Screen a diamond and. I'm going to have all the slots
- 14:42you said. I want my lineup.
- 14:46Five starting pitchers, two relief pitchers, one closer, one
- 14:51manager and one mascot and. One stadium and.
- 14:56I'm going to tell you now the I want to point this out right off
- 14:59the bat. I'm not going to say who I think
- 15:02the best player is at every position.
- 15:05That's not what the question. I don't think that's what the
- 15:07question is. That what the question was.
- 15:09I think the question was what is your all time MLB lineup that's
- 15:15different then who's the best left fielder of all time, or
- 15:19center fielder of all time or right fielder of all time?
- 15:22That wasn't the question. That was if you could build a
- 15:25team, what would the team be? That changes the way that I put
- 15:32my team together and having only two relief pitchers, I got a
- 15:37little creative. So let's take a look at my all
- 15:43time MLB lineup, pitchers, bullpen, manager, mascot, and
- 15:50stadium. All time lineup so my lead off
- 15:55hitter is going to have to be someone that gets on base,
- 15:59scores, runs, steals bases. So I want.
- 16:04Someone that's going to. Terrorize the opposing starting
- 16:09pitcher. So who's the guy that could do
- 16:14that? Well, it's got.
- 16:16To be Ricky Henderson, my lead off hitter again.
- 16:19Is Ricky the best left? Fielder of all time.
- 16:22I'd probably go Bonds or Ted Williams, but Ricky is Ricky.
- 16:27Just ask him. So that's my lead off man,
- 16:31playing left second base. I want a guy that's going to
- 16:33make contact. I want a guy who's going to get
- 16:35hits. I'm going Rogers Hornsby.
- 16:39To set the. Table I need 2 guys getting on
- 16:41base for my sluggers to come in. So third.
- 16:47Oh, it's my starting pitcher. Babe Ruth.
- 16:50Now, you didn't say. If there was ADH.
- 16:53I'm assuming there's not. So Ruth was a great pitcher and
- 16:57then Ruth brings his bat into the lineup at the third spot.
- 17:014th I'm going Hank Aaron. Hank Aaron batting clean up,
- 17:07playing right field, hidden in all the guys that have gotten on
- 17:11base. My lineup is absolutely dialed
- 17:15in right now. If you ask me. 5th I'm going Lou
- 17:18Gehrig. My first baseman is Lou Gehrig.
- 17:20He is a. Slugger he scores RBI.
- 17:24He has so many RBI bat behind Ruth that seems.
- 17:27Impossible, that guy. Produces Lou Gehrig is playing
- 17:31first base. Josh Gibson.
- 17:34I'm going Josh Gibson, a catcher.
- 17:36I know that Christian Missouri's pissed.
- 17:39I know that you know he. Loves his guy from.
- 17:42Johnny Bench, I thought. About Yogi.
- 17:45I'm going Josh Gibson, center field, got to go.
- 17:48Willie Mays, He's got the power, he's got the defense, he's got
- 17:51the speed. He's got.
- 17:52Everything. He's batting 7th, right behind
- 17:55Josh Gibson. I love this lineup #8 is going
- 18:01to be Ernie Banks batting 8th, Ernie Banks at shortstop.
- 18:06I mean, I know people are going to be yelling at me about a pic
- 18:09or two. I got to have Ernie Banks on my
- 18:12team. The guy is a stud.
- 18:13He's likable. He's going.
- 18:14To be good in. The clubhouse for US.
- 18:17Third Mike Schmidt. Great defensively, great
- 18:20offensively. This.
- 18:22Lineup is phenomenal so. What's going to round?
- 18:25Out my starting pitching stuff, I got Ruth in the one slot.
- 18:29I'm also for my other 4 pitchers.
- 18:31I'm going Walter Johnson, I'm going Walter Johnson.
- 18:34These are in no particular order except Ruth is starting 'cause I
- 18:37need his bat in the lineup. So we got Walter Johnson is one
- 18:40of my starting pitchers. I got three more picks.
- 18:43So Next up. I am going to.
- 18:45Go with Sandy Koufax got to have some left-handed arms and
- 18:49right-handed arms. So we got Sandy Koufax coming in
- 18:53if it's, you know, game. Three of the world.
- 18:56Series Sandy Koufax is going to be outstanding in there I I I
- 19:00mean what can you say Randy Johnson I need another lefty if
- 19:04there was any pitcher in the history of baseball that I would
- 19:08not want to face that I would not want to bat against is Randy
- 19:11Johnson I'm going Randy Johnson as another lefty so now I need a
- 19:15righty. I'm going with the greatest of
- 19:17all time, the. Greatest pitcher of all time.
- 19:22Rodger Clemens is rounding out my my 5 starters.
- 19:28So how about my bullpen? My.
- 19:31Bullpen I'm starting off. With Goose Gossage.
- 19:33Goose Gossage is a. Freak guy throws, hard guy is
- 19:37intimidating. But this leaves me in the
- 19:40situation I want to have a left-handed.
- 19:42Reliever as well, but I also need a guy who can run the be a
- 19:47long reliever if needed so. If I need a strikeout late in
- 19:51the game and I need a left-hander, I'm going Steve
- 19:54Carlton. So Steve Carlton is going.
- 19:56To be a relief pitcher. He's going to be.
- 19:58My long. Man if needed and if I need a.
- 20:00Strikeout late in the. Game I'm going Carlton.
- 20:03Who's the closer? Well, the best closer of all
- 20:05time Mariano Rivera. I mean, how does this lineup get
- 20:10any better than? Closing out the game with
- 20:13Mariano Rivera. This, this team is.
- 20:16Unbelievable. So who's my manager?
- 20:19Miller Huggins. The manager during the best team
- 20:23in the history of baseball. Miller Huggins Plus.
- 20:27The name Come on, Miller Huggins.
- 20:29That just screams awesome. My mascot.
- 20:33I'm sorry, Mr. Philly fanatic. It's the San Diego Chicken.
- 20:38The. San Diego chicken has.
- 20:39To be my mascot. Love the San Diego Chicken.
- 20:44So the stadium, where are we playing?
- 20:46This was tough. I thought about Wrigley, I
- 20:49thought. About Fenway.
- 20:52I thought about the old tiger. Stadium.
- 20:54I'm going the old Yankee Stadium.
- 20:58The House that Ruth built the. Only house that could suit this
- 21:04team. It's the old Yankee Stadium.
- 21:07Tell me this lineup isn't amazing.
- 21:11Tell me if you think I made a mistake.
- 21:13If I made a mistake, what was the mistake?
- 21:15Let's be honest though, there are no mistakes in this lineup.
- 21:18This lineup. Is.
- 21:21Amazing, this is a fun one and I look forward to you guys telling
- 21:25me how you think I messed up. Even though we all know deep
- 21:29down. That this is the team that
- 21:33anybody would want to take with them against anybody else.
- 21:38All time MLB team right there in front of you.
- 21:42That's the team. This next one says I ran into
- 21:47Sammy Thunder at the Hofstra show.
- 21:50Very nice and knowledgeable guy. Here's a question for your show.
- 21:54Do you think AI will bring down the prices of autographs if
- 21:59criminals get involved with creating fakes?
- 22:04I think this is a great. Question.
- 22:06I think that you might be on to something.
- 22:09If criminals can start utilizing AI to duplicate cards and all
- 22:16sorts of things and and they are, then it seems like
- 22:20autographs would be really easy. Now here's the thing.
- 22:25They autopen has been around for a while.
- 22:28Autopen has been able to duplicate an autograph fairly
- 22:34easily for a long time. And, and I'm not even going to
- 22:38get into the political part of it, but autopen has been used
- 22:43under the approval, or maybe not under the approval of people who
- 22:48were being autopenned. Now, again, I'm not wading into
- 22:53those waters, but I will say this, I think that you're on to
- 22:59something. It could make it easier and has
- 23:04made it easier to duplicate an autograph.
- 23:07I mean, there was the big scandal that came out of a bunch
- 23:10of Aaron Judge and Tom Brady. Autographs like.
- 23:13And I think Patrick Mahomes maybe 2, I can't remember for
- 23:16sure, but it is absolutely easier for criminals to
- 23:20duplicate autographs. But The thing is that pen
- 23:26pressure would be hard to duplicate.
- 23:29That would be much harder to duplicate than the actual
- 23:33design. The other thing is if you can
- 23:36use AI to duplicate an autograph, I would think you
- 23:42could use AI. To.
- 23:44Spot a fake autograph If if a if, if an auto is scanned into a
- 23:49database and it matches like 'cause every autograph is, I
- 23:53mean it's slightly different. It's like a fingerprint, it's
- 23:56slightly different. But if, if, if AI were to scan
- 24:01in an autograph, I would think that it could find any exact
- 24:07match. And if it's being auto penned,
- 24:10just photo after photo after photo after photo and it's
- 24:13exactly the same. I would think that though AI
- 24:17could maybe make it easy to duplicate an autograph, I would
- 24:20think AI could make it easy to catch a duplicated autograph.
- 24:25I mean, I'm not an AI expert by any means.
- 24:30I I I'm just throwing out there. It seems like every autograph
- 24:37would have a slight uniqueness and a a slight amount of pen
- 24:42pressure and stopping points that would be fairly difficult
- 24:46to duplicate. And if you did duplicate it, it
- 24:51seems like AI would be able to spot it, so I don't.
- 24:56Know is my answer. What do I think?
- 24:59'Cause that's all this is, right?
- 25:01I'm not giving any answers here. I'm just, I'm just, I'm just
- 25:04throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks.
- 25:07I'm just sharing my thoughts. Here's the question.
- 25:10What do you think doesn't make any of this right?
- 25:14I think that it's possible and likely it would make it easier
- 25:21to duplicate an autograph. I also think it would be easier
- 25:25to spot a fake autograph. And will it affect the prices?
- 25:31I don't know, But it's at least something to kind of keep in the
- 25:34back of your mind as you're making purchases that maybe it
- 25:39could, but it seems like it would be difficult, but maybe it
- 25:45could, I don't know. I.
- 25:46Don't. I don't know.
- 25:49I don't know. And I think maybe that's one of
- 25:51the things is like Tony, my buddy who's a big autograph
- 25:55collector, he likes the autographs that were playing day
- 25:59style because, you know, a lot of autographs change over time.
- 26:02So if you're going to start duplicating autographs and
- 26:06you're going to use a Sharpie, you're not going to use Mickey
- 26:09Mantle's rookie autograph with a Sharpie because they didn't have
- 26:13Sharpies then. So I think there are some things
- 26:17that people could do to help spot some of this stuff.
- 26:23But it's a good question and it's definitely something to
- 26:25think about. This one says love your videos.
- 26:30I have a question for you. What is your take on the current
- 26:33news about fake PSA slabs that are showing up at shows?
- 26:38Jeff from Sports Card Investor recently did a video about it
- 26:42and at one of the shows he was at they caught a vendor who
- 26:46marked the cards as fake but was selling them.
- 26:50Once the post it price came off, the buyer could sell it to the
- 26:53untrained person thinking they get a deal.
- 26:57This is happening a lot with TCG cards but making its way into
- 27:01sports cards. I believe that if fake items
- 27:06like these are discovered that the vendor should be reported
- 27:10and barred from the show. Thoughts.
- 27:15I mean, it kind of is depressing to me that the last couple of
- 27:22questions here are about like criminals doing criminal
- 27:26behavior. But that said, this is always
- 27:30been a thing. It is always been a thing.
- 27:34I mean, as a kid in the hobby, there were fake cards going
- 27:38around. There were fake autographs going
- 27:40around. This is not new, but it is
- 27:44definitely gotten more sophisticated than it used to.
- 27:48I will say this now, I know that a lot of you guys don't like
- 27:51PSAI, respect it. I think that a lot of the heat
- 27:56that PSA gets, they probably deserve.
- 27:59Sometimes they maybe catch some heat for some stuff that might
- 28:03be a bit of a reach, but they deserve a lot of the heat that
- 28:06they get. But something that PSA has been
- 28:10really, really good about, Really good about his PSA has
- 28:15been good about continuing to add elements, making
- 28:21duplication, replication of their slabs more difficult.
- 28:27If you look at an and I know people are going to be pissed
- 28:32because I'm, it's going to sound like I'm taking a shot at SGC.
- 28:36I'm just being, I'm just being me.
- 28:38I'm I'm just telling you what I think SGC does not have.
- 28:45In their. Slabs and in their flip, the
- 28:48same level of sophistication and difficulty to duplicate that PSA
- 28:56slabs have. They just don't.
- 28:59And PSA has been doing working on this for a long time.
- 29:03They've constantly developed different hologram stickers on
- 29:07the back. They've got the lighthouse,
- 29:09which is hard to, to duplicate. They've got things in the flip
- 29:14itself. If you look in the flip, there's
- 29:15different designs and things making it harder to duplicate.
- 29:19They've got the serial number on the front and the back and the
- 29:21placement. The font is very specific in the
- 29:25front of the card in the plastic, starting in like
- 29:29generation early like. Generation 3 or 4.
- 29:32They, they started to actually have the PSA logo pressed into
- 29:37the plastic. So at the bottom right hand
- 29:39corner of APSA slab, if you run your finger over it, you'll feel
- 29:43like a bumpiness on it. That's the actual PSA logo which
- 29:48is pressed into the plastic. It's actually kind of raised out
- 29:51of the plastic and they've been doing a lot of that stuff for a
- 29:56long time, and it makes it, if you know what you're looking at
- 30:00and you know what you're looking for, it makes it pretty
- 30:05difficult to duplicate. Now, are there people trying to
- 30:09knock them off? Sure.
- 30:12Do some of them look pretty good?
- 30:14Probably. Will that continue to happen and
- 30:17get better? Probably.
- 30:20But I also think that PSA has done, again, I'm going to give
- 30:24credit where credit is due. Even if you don't like PSA, you
- 30:27have to admit that they've done more to prevent counterfeit
- 30:33slabs than the other companies. They just have.
- 30:38Look at an STC slab, look at APSA slab.
- 30:41You cannot tell me they have the same level of sophistication.
- 30:45That does not mean that PSA is the best thing ever.
- 30:48It does not mean that SG CS awful.
- 30:52What it means is PSA has been aware of this, has been on it.
- 30:58Has been working on it. And they continue to do things
- 31:02behind the scenes to try to prevent counterfeit slaps.
- 31:08So what am I saying? What, is this a problem?
- 31:12Of course it's a problem. Yes, it's a problem.
- 31:15If somebody gets caught selling cards that are with counterfeit
- 31:18slabs, should everybody post pictures of them all over the
- 31:22place and never do business with them?
- 31:24100 percent, 100%, if we can catch things like this, just
- 31:31like if we know somebody's counterfeiting autographs or
- 31:34counterfeiting dollar bills, we should, we should call the
- 31:38authorities for that too. We have to stick together as a
- 31:43hobby. If you're at a show and you see
- 31:46somebody steal something from a table, you got to, you got to
- 31:50alert people, you got to help them out.
- 31:52We are the eyes and ears of the community.
- 31:56And if you see something or if you hear something or something
- 32:00seems off, you should help prevent more of this.
- 32:06If somebody is breaking into the House of your neighbor across
- 32:10the street, assuming you don't hate them, but even if you hated
- 32:14them, you probably would say I should probably call the cops
- 32:20because that person isn't supposed to be climbing out of
- 32:23the window with their laptop and TV.
- 32:26You would probably do that. And you would hope that your
- 32:29neighbors would do that for you. As a card community, it's the
- 32:33same thing. There is a brotherhood in the
- 32:36card community. I don't care what you collect.
- 32:39I don't care what you like, what you don't like.
- 32:42What slab, what grader, what cards, modern, vintage, pre war,
- 32:46post war, what I don't care what.
- 32:49There is a common bond that we all have as card collectors and
- 32:54we have to look out for each other.
- 32:57And if you're at a show and you see somebody who has a
- 33:01counterfeit slab and there's a police officer there, if there's
- 33:07you, you should take pictures of it.
- 33:08You should call them out. You should with a group of
- 33:10people, come up and say you guys need to destroy those, get those
- 33:14out of here. You tell the card, promote the
- 33:17promoter of the show to throw them out.
- 33:19We have to stick together because if we don't stick
- 33:23together, we're all screwed. We are all screwed if we don't
- 33:27stick together. Is it a problem?
- 33:29Yes. Is it going to always be a
- 33:31problem? Yes.
- 33:32Will it become a harder thing to catch moving forward?
- 33:35Probably. It just makes me sick to my
- 33:38stomach that these are the things that we have to talk
- 33:42about. But you know, we do have to be
- 33:44aware of this stuff. It's not a world anymore where,
- 33:50you know, Ward Cleaver comes home and goes into the den and
- 33:53drinks his coffee while June does the dishes.
- 33:56That's not the world we. Live in anymore.
- 34:01It's a world that people are kind of out for themselves and
- 34:07that makes me sad, but it is what it is.
- 34:11So we've got to stick together, we've got to alert each other,
- 34:14we got to be teams in this brotherhood of card collecting.
- 34:18To make sure the. The next guy doesn't get
- 34:21screwed. If you have a question for an
- 34:24upcoming episode, please, seriously please take a second
- 34:28go down to the comments, type out your question.
- 34:32I'd love to hear what you're curious about.
