- 0:00Speaker 1: Yo blueleg Cap podcast Man special guests in here my
- 0:02Speaker 1: guy Victor Burnett's he Victor Rulers here Man. What's good bro? Welcome.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Appreciate you for having me for people who don't know you.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Are you manage Blast? You're Are you like the CEO
- 0:16Speaker 1: of Eagle? I'm the president the president of Eagle also
- 0:19Speaker 1: business partners. We own Eagle together. Yeah. So, first of all,
- 0:22Speaker 1: congrats on like an amazing last year and a half
- 0:25Speaker 1: or so. Like I feel like, you know, blastling from
- 0:29Speaker 1: being like LA's best kept secret to being the I mean,
- 0:35Speaker 1: one of the biggest artists in the country. Yeah. You
- 0:37Speaker 1: guys just hit number one on two formats at radio.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Like right, kind of take me back to the beginning, though,
- 0:43Speaker 1: How did you get involved with Blasts? Because, like I said,
- 0:47Speaker 1: he's been around for like people act like he's like
- 0:49Speaker 1: a new artist, but he's really not. You've been around
- 0:51Speaker 1: for a minute. I mean me, honestly, I didn't know
- 0:53Speaker 1: Blast when like until like twenty seventeen because I was
- 0:56Speaker 1: in college. I went to University of Washington, So I
- 0:58Speaker 1: moved to Seattle and going to Grass Yeah, and then
- 1:02Speaker 1: I played football there and then I ended up going
- 1:04Speaker 1: to grad school in southern Illinois. I went to Illinois
- 1:06Speaker 1: after that. She was gone for like six years, a
- 1:08Speaker 1: lot of school. What were you going to school for?
- 1:10Speaker 1: So I got a bachelor's and journalism advertising, and I
- 1:14Speaker 1: got a bachelor's of psychology, and then I went to
- 1:16Speaker 1: grad school for PR and media development. So your a
- 1:19Speaker 1: culmination and all that, and you're just the one stop
- 1:22Speaker 1: shop if I need a shrink and a PR guy. Exactly,
- 1:25Speaker 1: exactly exactly, But yeah, I mean when I moved back
- 1:30Speaker 1: home from college, I started working for Bennie Boom and
- 1:32Speaker 1: then I was working at their production studio and coach
- 1:34Speaker 1: svery video director. So I had really started working like
- 1:38Speaker 1: on the post production part of the Tupac movie. So
- 1:41Speaker 1: I was doing a lot of like merchandise design product
- 1:43Speaker 1: development for them. I was like that's what I was
- 1:46Speaker 1: like doing internships for in college, and it really just
- 1:50Speaker 1: kind of like transitioning in and doing a bunch of
- 1:51Speaker 1: stuff in the company and they ended up letting me
- 1:54Speaker 1: after I worked with This was stuff for Dame Dash too,
- 1:57Speaker 1: like Damn Dash Studios because we're doing like the back
- 2:00Speaker 1: in all the internet digital distribution, So doing merchandise production
- 2:03Speaker 1: with him too, with like the CEO brand of wine
- 2:06Speaker 1: and a whiskey. But he was just over there a
- 2:08Speaker 1: couple of weeks ago. Yeah, he was, uh, he was
- 2:11Speaker 1: jamming out and we were on shrooms and okay, that's crazy.
- 2:14Speaker 1: It was. I mean it was he took rooms with
- 2:16Speaker 1: Dame Dash. Yes, that's wow. It was. He was like,
- 2:19Speaker 1: I was like, of course, let's go yeah, and that's
- 2:22Speaker 1: you did the podcast on Trump, Yes, thousand percent. I
- 2:25Speaker 1: gotta go back and watch that again because I'm like,
- 2:27Speaker 1: that's different one million per at the end that kind
- 2:30Speaker 1: of alluded to it, and he was like, yeah, I
- 2:32Speaker 1: don't say it, you know, because this is technically illegal.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I was like, well, look, I took trooms. You don't
- 2:35Speaker 1: know what he did. Yeah. I mean, so with the
- 2:40Speaker 1: after the Damn Dash situation, I pretty much took over
- 2:42Speaker 1: the product merchandising department at their production company, Dames Booms yep.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And so I'm convinced them to let me like take
- 2:52Speaker 1: over the studio and like manager studio on the facility.
- 2:55Speaker 1: It was already like a podcast room, but me and
- 2:57Speaker 1: my boy was already intern in there. So I'm like,
- 3:00Speaker 1: let's just had them built the studio and put the
- 3:02Speaker 1: actual equipment in here for us to like rent it up,
- 3:04Speaker 1: so they shot us to live and let us do that.
- 3:07Speaker 1: And then pretty much I was doing like consultations with
- 3:11Speaker 1: independent artists on teaching them how to monetize content and
- 3:15Speaker 1: teaching them like digital distribution platforms and how to do it,
- 3:18Speaker 1: at what time to do it, how to like pretty
- 3:20Speaker 1: much beat the algorithm as an independent artist. So I
- 3:23Speaker 1: was charging for that. Then I added on the studio
- 3:25Speaker 1: services to that, and so eventually I'm at Blast and
- 3:29Speaker 1: Jason Cash on the same day actually shout out to
- 3:31Speaker 1: both of them. He had shout out to both of them,
- 3:33Speaker 1: so they both pulled up to the studio with the
- 3:35Speaker 1: actor that played Tupac Demetrios Ship yep yep so Ship.
- 3:40Speaker 1: He plays the piano as well, So there was pretty
- 3:43Speaker 1: much all just coming up to use the studio to
- 3:46Speaker 1: start making music. So I got introduced to all, well,
- 3:49Speaker 1: both of those two at the same time, and then
- 3:51Speaker 1: really I took a lik into both day music. To
- 3:53Speaker 1: be honest with you, but Blast was the one actually
- 3:56Speaker 1: consistently renting the studio off from me, and so, like
- 3:59Speaker 1: you know, Blast is pretty much like a man of
- 4:01Speaker 1: little words. So one day I just knocked on the door.
- 4:03Speaker 1: It was like, bro, you were into the studio for
- 4:06Speaker 1: me like five times and they said shit, like what
- 4:08Speaker 1: are you doing in here? So you playing me music?
- 4:12Speaker 1: He played me Savage first and I was like, without
- 4:14Speaker 1: being no, that's before I even Nu bo So played me. That,
- 4:17Speaker 1: played me a couple other songs, played me some videos.
- 4:20Speaker 1: So I started asking questions like who produced it? He
- 4:22Speaker 1: is like me, and every answer was me. Every answer
- 4:25Speaker 1: is me, from production, graphic design, post production, on the video, merchandise,
- 4:30Speaker 1: whole vision. I'm like fuck, I'm like, but why are
- 4:33Speaker 1: you in the why are you in this grade space?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Like what is it that you actually missing? And then
- 4:38Speaker 1: so we just started having conversations and I was just like, well,
- 4:40Speaker 1: this is what I do, this is what I went
- 4:41Speaker 1: to school for. I'll do it for free for you
- 4:44Speaker 1: just to see if you like what it is that
- 4:45Speaker 1: I'm actually trying to teach, and then if it worked,
- 4:48Speaker 1: let's just keep applying it. So I just started off
- 4:50Speaker 1: doing like marketing, marketing campaigns, rollouts like hand and hand
- 4:54Speaker 1: stuff with consumers end up taking over the merchandise. And
- 4:59Speaker 1: then we just kept working, helping on videos, helping doing
- 5:01Speaker 1: creative and then one day we went to the studio,
- 5:04Speaker 1: it just like it should be my manager, like just randomly. Uh.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And it was just prior to the first six tape. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 5:11Speaker 1: so it's all prior to the first six tape. This
- 5:13Speaker 1: is probably like six months before that. So yeah, so
- 5:18Speaker 1: I was working with him for a whole year and
- 5:20Speaker 1: some change before I even became as manager. So yeah,
- 5:24Speaker 1: you know, it was just like the dedication and the
- 5:25Speaker 1: day to day grind. We was together every day. We're
- 5:27Speaker 1: just starting to be together every day. And then it
- 5:29Speaker 1: was in a lot of like having a lot of
- 5:30Speaker 1: business conversations and then yeahs you know, his musical talent,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and then at it with our natural business acumen, and
- 5:38Speaker 1: then like the shit I went to school for and
- 5:39Speaker 1: studying all that type of stuff came together and it
- 5:42Speaker 1: was like making southern vinegar. Yo. It's crazy because like
- 5:46Speaker 1: you went to school for all of so much different things. Yeah,
- 5:50Speaker 1: I'm sure a lot of that you ended up applying
- 5:52Speaker 1: to what you're doing now, for sure, because a lot
- 5:54Speaker 1: of people are like, well, you know, if you want
- 5:55Speaker 1: to be in the music industry, you really don't got
- 5:56Speaker 1: to go to school. But like I feel like a
- 5:57Speaker 1: lot of people who do go to school, it ends
- 5:59Speaker 1: up helping them out. Yeah, there's so much you can
- 6:02Speaker 1: apply to any sort of situation. I'm sure the psychology
- 6:07Speaker 1: part first is just like just understanding people and understanding
- 6:11Speaker 1: how to move in different rooms and just understand how
- 6:14Speaker 1: to switch faces being in different places, whether it's in
- 6:17Speaker 1: the streets, whether it's in the boardroom, whether it's in
- 6:19Speaker 1: a classroom. So that that really helped me out a lot,
- 6:22Speaker 1: just being able to speak the language of a lot
- 6:24Speaker 1: of different people. Journalism perspective, like just getting like write
- 6:28Speaker 1: ups and shit done early on one seat and understanding
- 6:31Speaker 1: how to put that in format and then shit the
- 6:34Speaker 1: pr part to speak for cour like I just understood
- 6:37Speaker 1: at the back end of marketing. So and that was
- 6:40Speaker 1: around the time where Instagram started to actually develop an
- 6:43Speaker 1: algorithm when I was in college, so it wasn't really
- 6:46Speaker 1: a algorithm yet, but that was what they were teaching
- 6:48Speaker 1: us in class. So it was like I was just
- 6:51Speaker 1: learning it so fast early on, not knowing that the
- 6:53Speaker 1: music shit was gonna be able to be applied to it.
- 6:55Speaker 1: You mentioned Blast being in like kind of a grade
- 6:57Speaker 1: space prior, which I feel like a lot of artists
- 7:00Speaker 1: that we both might know, or there's a lot of
- 7:02Speaker 1: artists out there that are really talented that might be
- 7:06Speaker 1: kind of wrapped up in that great space. What is
- 7:08Speaker 1: like advice you would give to somebody who has all
- 7:11Speaker 1: of the tools necessary to make this shit work but
- 7:13Speaker 1: just really can't get over the hump. Maybe should build
- 7:17Speaker 1: a great team, because I mean, it's not just me
- 7:19Speaker 1: and Blast, like of course crazy just say it's just
- 7:22Speaker 1: me and Blast, Like we still got four employees on
- 7:25Speaker 1: full payroll. Well early on it was just you two though,
- 7:28Speaker 1: well early on it was just us two. I mean
- 7:30Speaker 1: we had videographer, you know what I'm saying, so that
- 7:33Speaker 1: he was trailing us and then taking all the pictures
- 7:35Speaker 1: and all the bts. Right, but I think right after
- 7:41Speaker 1: probably like a little bit after that first six tape,
- 7:43Speaker 1: that's when we actually nah, actually during the first six tape,
- 7:47Speaker 1: that's when we started hiring people. So he made like
- 7:49Speaker 1: our first hire. Her name is Alison, so she's our
- 7:51Speaker 1: general manager and she's a Blast tour manager too. So
- 7:55Speaker 1: but same time, everybody is like super qualified, Like Allison
- 7:59Speaker 1: went to school and got a degree in music business
- 8:01Speaker 1: and audio engineering, so she qualified to have these audio
- 8:04Speaker 1: conversations on stage as a tour manager. And then she's
- 8:07Speaker 1: also qualified to you know how those first conversations run
- 8:10Speaker 1: the email, be the first responder when it's talking about
- 8:13Speaker 1: actual business logistics. So you know that's that's really like
- 8:17Speaker 1: a constant thing throughout the whole company, Like everybody is
- 8:20Speaker 1: highly qualified for the job they do. But I would
- 8:23Speaker 1: say the same thing for an artist. I cent that position,
- 8:25Speaker 1: Like I mean, obviously I don't. I'm really a proponent
- 8:28Speaker 1: of like you don't really need a manager to you
- 8:30Speaker 1: got some shit to manage, you know what I'm saying,
- 8:32Speaker 1: Like if you're not overwhelmed with shit, you really need
- 8:34Speaker 1: your manager at that point, you know what I mean,
- 8:36Speaker 1: You just really need somebody to actually help you probably
- 8:39Speaker 1: funnel your ideas and actually like get to the point
- 8:41Speaker 1: because you can only be one place at one time.
- 8:43Speaker 1: So if you want to be in the studio, you
- 8:45Speaker 1: may need somebody to help you make the merch, do
- 8:47Speaker 1: the creative on that. Because Blast is really an anomaly
- 8:50Speaker 1: when it comes to doing all that shit. I really
- 8:53Speaker 1: just like, yeah, it's really just him, and like I mean,
- 8:55Speaker 1: Russ I guess was similar, but I mean I don't
- 8:57Speaker 1: think the creator Tyler, But yeah, I mean just like
- 9:01Speaker 1: in terms of like engineering yourself. Yeah, but I don't
- 9:04Speaker 1: even think they knew graphics though. I was gonna say
- 9:06Speaker 1: the one thing I'm not sure Russ is making his own.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I don't think it's photo shopping. Bro. We went on
- 9:11Speaker 1: tour for this, this tour in September. First city was Seattle,
- 9:16Speaker 1: so you know they got show graphics and ship on
- 9:18Speaker 1: the So Blast was like, I'm not happy with the
- 9:21Speaker 1: graphic that like the graphic designer delivering me. So I'm
- 9:23Speaker 1: just about to chill today. Literally spent fourteen hours in
- 9:26Speaker 1: the hotel making his whole show graphic for the concert. Wow.
- 9:29Speaker 1: So it's like an hour and a half reel of
- 9:32Speaker 1: a whole bunch of shit going. But he created him,
- 9:34Speaker 1: what's going on behind him while he's performing. He made
- 9:37Speaker 1: all that shit. So it's just like for me, you know,
- 9:40Speaker 1: it's like a cheat code. At the end of the day,
- 9:42Speaker 1: it's like, you don't really got to outsource that much.
- 9:45Speaker 1: You saved money. Facts is the definition of vertical integration.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Like all money in for sure, you really don't got
- 9:51Speaker 1: to spend. I mean, our marketing budgets be so low
- 9:53Speaker 1: just because we don't got to outsource for engineers. We
- 9:55Speaker 1: don't got to outsource for graphic artists motion graphic artists.
- 9:58Speaker 1: So it just gives us a lot of time to work,
- 10:00Speaker 1: work with capital and actually distributed how we want to,
- 10:02Speaker 1: oppose to being like we're being spread in because we
- 10:05Speaker 1: got to pay all these people to do a job. Yeah.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I think it's I mean, it's a it's a nice
- 10:10Speaker 1: convenient thing to have in your pocket because most artists
- 10:12Speaker 1: everything has a bill for a recoupable bill. Yeah. Cool.
- 10:18Speaker 1: So that thing going on mind blast Head. You know,
- 10:21Speaker 1: most artist probably placed it with fifteen hundred dollars or
- 10:23Speaker 1: something like. That's like fifteen thousand. That's fucking crazy. It's crazy.
- 10:26Speaker 1: People are getting over on motherfuckers out here. Definitely, that's
- 10:29Speaker 1: a lot of money. But it's shit that Ted's work.
- 10:31Speaker 1: People don't want to do, so they'd be like, I
- 10:33Speaker 1: want to whoop you over the head for it, Yo,
- 10:34Speaker 1: that's crazy. And so when you guys, obviously, you know,
- 10:39Speaker 1: I feel like there was like a real, real organic
- 10:42Speaker 1: buzz about Blast, Like I had heard about Blast before
- 10:46Speaker 1: six tape because you know, obviously did this show ahead.
- 10:47Speaker 1: And Head's been a huge proponent of blasts since forever
- 10:51Speaker 1: him and Salas, and so I was kind of already
- 10:55Speaker 1: hip to like, you know, his talents, and you know
- 10:58Speaker 1: Ed was like, yo, you don't think this dude does
- 10:59Speaker 1: it all makes the beat cords himself. And so I
- 11:06Speaker 1: remember when six Tape first came out talking to my
- 11:09Speaker 1: guy Buys who was working Bino over at Depth Jam,
- 11:13Speaker 1: and like everyone was like yo, Bino. I mean, obviously
- 11:15Speaker 1: I love Bino, but everyone was like yo, But the
- 11:17Speaker 1: Blast guy is also like that guy too, like you
- 11:20Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. And I think that that was
- 11:23Speaker 1: kind of the beginning. I feel like we're like a
- 11:24Speaker 1: lot of discussions are being had, but like what what
- 11:27Speaker 1: I feel like you guys probably actually I kind of
- 11:30Speaker 1: know inside information that you guys had a lot of
- 11:32Speaker 1: situations on the table. What was it about red Bull music?
- 11:36Speaker 1: Because that caught a lot of people off guard? What
- 11:39Speaker 1: was it about the red Bull situation that you guys
- 11:41Speaker 1: were like, this fits because it obviously worked. It was
- 11:44Speaker 1: the first time. You guys are the first people to
- 11:45Speaker 1: make that work in a hip hop space for sure. Sure,
- 11:50Speaker 1: it was a culmination of a couple of things, right,
- 11:52Speaker 1: Like we understood what we wanted from a business aspect,
- 11:55Speaker 1: like if you look at Egle, you could take like
- 11:58Speaker 1: all money in OLP A TD and somebody's formula like
- 12:05Speaker 1: a E forty and just combined all those together and
- 12:08Speaker 1: we just understood like one ownership because Blast was a
- 12:11Speaker 1: producer as well, so we were already doing so much
- 12:14Speaker 1: money in merch and he was already doing enough money
- 12:16Speaker 1: on Distro Kid from his production catalog and his artist
- 12:20Speaker 1: catalog that it was like, we ain't got to take
- 12:23Speaker 1: twenty thousand dollars right now because the nigga can make
- 12:25Speaker 1: twenty thousand dollars in a month just off his natural
- 12:28Speaker 1: services that he does as a creator. So that was
- 12:31Speaker 1: how we first stepped in the room too. Like I said,
- 12:34Speaker 1: like most people don't expect somebody to come in there
- 12:36Speaker 1: and have an educational conversation, like especially like a young
- 12:38Speaker 1: black dude that's under thirty and that's never worked in
- 12:41Speaker 1: music beforecause I never worked in music before Blast, So
- 12:43Speaker 1: me having these conversations were like super raw anyway, But
- 12:47Speaker 1: shout out to our lawyer. Our lawyer is twenty nine
- 12:49Speaker 1: to two, and so he professor at Drexel University, got
- 12:53Speaker 1: a sports firm, got his own law firm, all that shit.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Can we get Can we get the lawyers? Can we
- 12:58Speaker 1: get a name drop on the lawyer? Folks, Folks shout
- 13:01Speaker 1: out to the lawyer. So I mean, just with us
- 13:03Speaker 1: three walking in the building together, it's kind of like
- 13:06Speaker 1: you really cross all the t's and dot all the
- 13:08Speaker 1: i's with that, because it's like you got your legal
- 13:10Speaker 1: assistance right there. Then you got me who actually understands
- 13:14Speaker 1: like business structure, business development. And then we came with
- 13:17Speaker 1: an actual staff, with an actual vision, with a brand
- 13:20Speaker 1: with color schemes, with already visuals put out. So I
- 13:23Speaker 1: already know when you come to the table with that much,
- 13:26Speaker 1: it's really not much you can really give us in
- 13:28Speaker 1: that space. It's more so just like what you can
- 13:30Speaker 1: throw with gas, you could throw in the flame that's
- 13:32Speaker 1: already kind of like heating up. But overall, I just
- 13:35Speaker 1: understood Red Bulls are privately owned company, so they're like
- 13:38Speaker 1: they're not on the stock market, which means that if
- 13:40Speaker 1: they grossing four billion dollars a year, that mean they're
- 13:43Speaker 1: doing something right. But lastly, I did my my senior
- 13:47Speaker 1: dissertation on Red Bull because I wrote my paper on
- 13:50Speaker 1: vertical integration and real bull is a marketing company to
- 13:53Speaker 1: start off, it wasn't an energy drink. So that's where
- 13:56Speaker 1: you see all these advertisements, all these events and all
- 13:59Speaker 1: that type of stuff just source from them being a
- 14:00Speaker 1: marketing company. So me writing that paper already understood too,
- 14:04Speaker 1: Like we can make so much money that's non recoupable.
- 14:09Speaker 1: That is like we'll make more money and non recoupable
- 14:12Speaker 1: funds than advances just because Real Bull got so much stuff,
- 14:15Speaker 1: i e. The f ones, the events, the extreme sports game,
- 14:19Speaker 1: the skydiving airplane shit. So we get so much money
- 14:25Speaker 1: off of sync plays from internal re Bull sources that
- 14:29Speaker 1: it's like we can make so much money and just
- 14:31Speaker 1: keep recouping every advance by just defering the appearance fees
- 14:36Speaker 1: were getting. So the way that we can cru like
- 14:39Speaker 1: cross collateralizing most of the time is like negative because
- 14:41Speaker 1: it's like most people going the hole from cross collateralized
- 14:44Speaker 1: and whether it be like a producer cross collateralized with
- 14:46Speaker 1: an artist or however it goes. But in this sense,
- 14:50Speaker 1: we crossing over between reil Bull Music, Real Bull Culture Team,
- 14:54Speaker 1: reil Bull Extreme Sports, and we're going through all these
- 14:56Speaker 1: different fastest of rel Bull and we get money with
- 14:58Speaker 1: these different divisions. But all the different paces, got their
- 15:00Speaker 1: own CEOs. You know what I'm saying, all their own
- 15:03Speaker 1: different branches are real, bull, All this shit is not
- 15:05Speaker 1: under one. So you know, just with breaking the artists
- 15:08Speaker 1: and understanding creativity and understanding that Blast was like a
- 15:11Speaker 1: super creative artist on top of everything, I was just like, bro,
- 15:15Speaker 1: you really need to go somewhere where somebody can like
- 15:17Speaker 1: tap into your talents and actually bring your talents out,
- 15:19Speaker 1: Like have you designed some shit for the effluent Speedway
- 15:22Speaker 1: to where that shit gets featured and then you get
- 15:23Speaker 1: a royalty off all this merched that so worldwide. So
- 15:27Speaker 1: just that type of thing. So because when we think
- 15:30Speaker 1: of like the traditional record deal, right, like most artists
- 15:34Speaker 1: would come off the street, take a cute as big
- 15:36Speaker 1: of an advance as they can get, right, but then
- 15:38Speaker 1: you know, two years later they complain they've never seen
- 15:40Speaker 1: a check off of music because you've never recouped. Right,
- 15:43Speaker 1: So when you guys went to Red Bull, you figured
- 15:45Speaker 1: out kind of a life hack. If we go to
- 15:48Speaker 1: Red Bull, we can get so much money within Red
- 15:50Speaker 1: Bull that we don't have to really ever worry about.
- 15:53Speaker 1: And you know, I take a crazy advance in front
- 15:54Speaker 1: because you know, like like you said you were in
- 15:56Speaker 1: a position where he was making so much money off
- 15:58Speaker 1: this stro kid, and you know a lot of people
- 16:01Speaker 1: go for that first, they want the bigger advance. But
- 16:03Speaker 1: it's like, if you don't need the advance, whitic it? Honestly, bro,
- 16:07Speaker 1: It's just like it's a precedent. We all to say
- 16:09Speaker 1: it for real, for real, because I mean it's saying
- 16:13Speaker 1: it's deeper than rap. It's kind of cliche, but it's
- 16:15Speaker 1: really deeper than rap though, you know, because we already
- 16:17Speaker 1: just seen the people go be superstars, but they have
- 16:20Speaker 1: nothing at the end, you know. I mean, Mik Mill
- 16:22Speaker 1: just complained about this. I mean a lot of people
- 16:24Speaker 1: who we look at like not one hundred percent, A
- 16:25Speaker 1: lot of our favorite people are like aren't seeing money
- 16:28Speaker 1: off their exactly, they got to stretch that check, but
- 16:31Speaker 1: which is why they dan be killing theyself while we're
- 16:33Speaker 1: doing so many shows and being on the road so
- 16:35Speaker 1: much to see that upfront tickets hill, you know what
- 16:37Speaker 1: I mean. So it's just like I already knew you
- 16:41Speaker 1: don't want to stretch yourself out with anything you do.
- 16:43Speaker 1: So however, you can create fillers in between the times
- 16:46Speaker 1: that you want to take breaks throughout creativity. Okay, what
- 16:49Speaker 1: is the best avenue to be able to do that?
- 16:51Speaker 1: So not having to take a crazy advance but still
- 16:54Speaker 1: being able to make six figures plus just on outside
- 16:58Speaker 1: entities within the company is like, Oh, that's guaranteed checks
- 17:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna get just because I'm doing business with the
- 17:03Speaker 1: companies and their best favor to make me happy and
- 17:05Speaker 1: vice versa. So you know, it's just I think that
- 17:09Speaker 1: I thought the people are real bull when we signed,
- 17:11Speaker 1: I was like, really, pretty much, this is us being
- 17:14Speaker 1: the cool kids coming to sit with the nerves and
- 17:16Speaker 1: making the nerves popular. And I'm like, but it's mutually
- 17:19Speaker 1: beneficial because the nerves got the answers to all the tests.
- 17:22Speaker 1: So I'm like, I'm not tripping off kicking it with
- 17:24Speaker 1: the nerves because I see the mutual beneficiary part of
- 17:27Speaker 1: the whole thing. Also too, I think you guys are
- 17:29Speaker 1: in a great position too, where it's like Red Bulls.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I'm sure their music division doesn't have to make money
- 17:36Speaker 1: because they have so much other shit going on. Yeah,
- 17:38Speaker 1: I mean, it's stand there like a guinea pig they started,
- 17:41Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like, it's like it's like
- 17:43Speaker 1: when we think of Red bull like the eleven thing
- 17:45Speaker 1: we probably think about is the fact that they put
- 17:47Speaker 1: music out too. Yeah, but I mean just to know
- 17:49Speaker 1: they got rock bands going platinum on it, I didn't
- 17:52Speaker 1: know that. I didn't know that. Yes, It's like they
- 17:53Speaker 1: got a band called bear Tooth and they got these
- 17:55Speaker 1: girls called the Aces, Like they both go crazy. They
- 17:59Speaker 1: sell out crazy product, crazy merchandising like them type of deals.
- 18:04Speaker 1: It's like, really, what like entices me? Because I already know, bro,
- 18:06Speaker 1: you don't really you make pennies on the dollar on music,
- 18:08Speaker 1: you feel me, even if you got a very favorable deal.
- 18:11Speaker 1: It's just like streams just don't pay you that much
- 18:14Speaker 1: for you to sit there and be like I can
- 18:15Speaker 1: make all my money off that. So it's like I
- 18:17Speaker 1: believe in physical product and actually, you know, branching out
- 18:21Speaker 1: and investing its actual money we got going on and
- 18:23Speaker 1: different shit that's gonna make it's way more money. So
- 18:26Speaker 1: grand scheme of things just like, yeah, we just decided
- 18:29Speaker 1: to take the steps over the elevator for real, because
- 18:32Speaker 1: we could have jumped it so many times. We had crazy,
- 18:34Speaker 1: outlandish offers on the table, you know, but it's just
- 18:38Speaker 1: like shit, you know, we know what we want and
- 18:40Speaker 1: we know how we want to move, and we understand
- 18:42Speaker 1: it's like, okay, the same amount of money if we
- 18:44Speaker 1: get this lump sum. We understand music math. And I
- 18:47Speaker 1: think that's a big problem, Like a lot of people
- 18:49Speaker 1: don't understand music math and how that actually works. Cause
- 18:52Speaker 1: it's like, even if you got a fifty to fifty deal,
- 18:54Speaker 1: you got to make double what you got given to
- 18:57Speaker 1: even make your recoupment back. So it's like, and that's
- 19:00Speaker 1: a fifty fifties. I think if you got less than
- 19:01Speaker 1: fifty percent, you're fucked. You're fucked, you feel me so.
- 19:05Speaker 1: But having those of small nuances and having that intelligence
- 19:09Speaker 1: behind that part, I think that helps navigated a lot.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Just do this talk about music math because I we
- 19:14Speaker 1: talk about it a lot on the podcast, right. I
- 19:15Speaker 1: try to tell people like, hey, look, if you take
- 19:17Speaker 1: let's take one hundred thousand dollars and you have a
- 19:21Speaker 1: fifty fifties an easy number for you understand, right when
- 19:26Speaker 1: your money comes in for your music, the money the
- 19:30Speaker 1: balance that you owe only they're they're advancing you money
- 19:33Speaker 1: on your half of the of the bread exactly. So
- 19:36Speaker 1: like you said, you have to make two hundred thousand
- 19:39Speaker 1: dollars to be to get back right, to get back
- 19:43Speaker 1: even But the fuck that part is like even though
- 19:45Speaker 1: you're the major up two hundred thousand back, you don't
- 19:47Speaker 1: already made them two hundred thousand and two. Yeah, they're
- 19:49Speaker 1: making really made half a million before you even you
- 19:52Speaker 1: any anything. So it's just like understand, and then you
- 19:55Speaker 1: think about taxes, taxes, I mean, and then think about
- 19:58Speaker 1: most deals. Yeah, a favorable deal would be like getting
- 20:02Speaker 1: thirteen or fifteen points off your music if you're in
- 20:04Speaker 1: a major situation. So then then let your mind wrap
- 20:07Speaker 1: around how much of a fucking shitty situation that is ridiculous.
- 20:10Speaker 1: It's ridiculous, but you know it's some people just don't
- 20:14Speaker 1: give a fuck. Yeah, Like you know, me and head
- 20:16Speaker 1: it during the pandemic, we had yg on and he
- 20:19Speaker 1: said he had never seen a deaf jam check like
- 20:22Speaker 1: off of his music. Like he said this during an interview.
- 20:25Speaker 1: I'm not speaking on anything that he's I've seen it.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I've seen it for sure, and it's like, yeah, well,
- 20:30Speaker 1: you know, at the end of the day, like you
- 20:32Speaker 1: take that that that every time you drop an album,
- 20:35Speaker 1: if it's a check associated with that, like you know,
- 20:38Speaker 1: that's the money you takeing up front. I mean I
- 20:40Speaker 1: had an artist asked me yesterday, like how do I
- 20:43Speaker 1: not be bitter about this stuff? And I was, honestly
- 20:47Speaker 1: just like you just got to take an ownership of
- 20:48Speaker 1: where you at with it and where you signed your
- 20:50Speaker 1: name on a dot line because it's like you can
- 20:52Speaker 1: you signed the deal right, Like you can kick and
- 20:54Speaker 1: fight all you want to, but you had an ample
- 20:56Speaker 1: chance to like review this, take it to whoever else
- 20:59Speaker 1: you wanted to review it, and he made your decision.
- 21:01Speaker 1: It's not people don't want the slow steady check. They
- 21:04Speaker 1: want that upfront nut because they want to get they
- 21:07Speaker 1: want to be a part of like the smoking mirror shit. Yeah,
- 21:10Speaker 1: And it's like wouldn't you rather have like fifteen grand
- 21:12Speaker 1: a month? Bro? But when I figured out, like all
- 21:16Speaker 1: this shit is smoking mirrors at the end of the
- 21:18Speaker 1: day because me. I also used to design all the
- 21:20Speaker 1: clothes for like all the V live ship clubs and shit,
- 21:23Speaker 1: because I was like a contract they had through Bennie Boom,
- 21:25Speaker 1: Like really they was getting all the merchandise periods Phoenix
- 21:28Speaker 1: yep V live in Phoenix one out here. I used
- 21:30Speaker 1: to make all the shirt hoodies, like all the shit
- 21:32Speaker 1: for themselves. This was a death trap. So even going
- 21:36Speaker 1: to v Live, right, I'm noticing like I'm seeing the
- 21:39Speaker 1: artists who walk throughs and I'm seeing the manager come
- 21:41Speaker 1: collected back in and they also getting five seven thousand
- 21:45Speaker 1: of ones though a just complimentary ones that throw back
- 21:48Speaker 1: to the house. So it's like in Yo min you like, okay,
- 21:51Speaker 1: you're trying to compete, like they got the street dudes
- 21:53Speaker 1: competing with the rappers to see who can buy more bottles,
- 21:56Speaker 1: who could throw more money. When it's like so you're
- 21:58Speaker 1: saying the back end would include your actual back end,
- 22:01Speaker 1: and then the club would be like, here's some money
- 22:03Speaker 1: as well. Exactly, it's just because it's gonna come they
- 22:06Speaker 1: just say you gotta throw it all though, So it's
- 22:07Speaker 1: gonna come right back to the house. It's just gonna
- 22:09Speaker 1: entice everybody else to feel like, oh, such and such
- 22:12Speaker 1: is in here blowing the bags. Blow a bad y'all
- 22:16Speaker 1: go buy the bottles, right, So one side is comped
- 22:18Speaker 1: on the other side, it's like you spending your money.
- 22:20Speaker 1: So when it comes down to that and understanding like
- 22:23Speaker 1: tax right off, so all that type of shit, like
- 22:25Speaker 1: how to write off jewelry, It become a whole different
- 22:27Speaker 1: ball game when you understand that rather than you just
- 22:29Speaker 1: being like I just want to spend my cash right
- 22:31Speaker 1: now for it. Yeah, I think the tax right off
- 22:34Speaker 1: thing is how do you write off jewelry? Give us
- 22:37Speaker 1: help us understand that, because yeah, so like this right here,
- 22:41Speaker 1: like well, one gold is an investment. It's a mineral, true,
- 22:44Speaker 1: so it can go up in value and it has
- 22:46Speaker 1: universal trade value. So in the simplest term, it's like
- 22:52Speaker 1: the government is like, if you're gonna invest in an asset,
- 22:55Speaker 1: whether it's property or there's jewelry, then you can write
- 22:58Speaker 1: that off because you based you're saying, this is a
- 23:00Speaker 1: future investment for me to be able to do something
- 23:02Speaker 1: with it, and as far as dependent, it has my
- 23:07Speaker 1: actual brand on there. I'm my owner of the company.
- 23:09Speaker 1: I'm on the paperwork, so I'm able to say this
- 23:11Speaker 1: is a costume fee or promotional fee for my company
- 23:14Speaker 1: and just be able to write it off at the
- 23:15Speaker 1: end of the year rather than we spend the upfront cast.
- 23:18Speaker 1: So let's say technically my tax bill at the end
- 23:20Speaker 1: of the year, we're thirty thousand. If I spend fifteen
- 23:23Speaker 1: thousand on this chain, I only got to spend. I
- 23:25Speaker 1: only got to pay fifteen thousand of that back to
- 23:27Speaker 1: the government and the other fifteen thousand goes down is
- 23:30Speaker 1: a write off through jewelry, costume expense all that. So
- 23:35Speaker 1: it's like the simplest way I guess you could say it.
- 23:38Speaker 1: And most people who are buying jewelry don't write their shit.
- 23:41Speaker 1: No they can, they don't appraise it, they don't do nothing,
- 23:45Speaker 1: you feel me. All that shit is tax defable. So
- 23:48Speaker 1: just really understanding how to like move around that type
- 23:50Speaker 1: of spectrum rather than just what are some other things
- 23:52Speaker 1: like you like like obviously you know for people who
- 23:54Speaker 1: don't know, like obviously you know, if you're on your
- 23:56Speaker 1: own LLC or you're you can write off certain meals
- 23:59Speaker 1: you can, But what are the mills? I think I
- 24:02Speaker 1: think the biggest thing for like entrepreneurs and business people.
- 24:04Speaker 1: You can give students college credit. Like we've had like
- 24:07Speaker 1: two interns that we've given three to five college credits
- 24:10Speaker 1: based off of a simple curriculum we built submitted to
- 24:13Speaker 1: do you have to pay them? Nah? I didn't know
- 24:15Speaker 1: that because I know at heart they had like banned
- 24:17Speaker 1: interns for a while because there was some lawsuit. Yeah,
- 24:20Speaker 1: so I mean radio. But see, you know, credits cost
- 24:22Speaker 1: money in college though, so you've you've given college credits.
- 24:25Speaker 1: That's basically like saying you've given x amount of money
- 24:27Speaker 1: to them within the educational delivery. So it's like going
- 24:31Speaker 1: to we need some interns. Cook for sure, we got
- 24:34Speaker 1: some credit. Cook. You can hop on once you get
- 24:37Speaker 1: approved by like the little UC system or whatever private
- 24:40Speaker 1: college you're going, indeed and put the ship out and
- 24:43Speaker 1: then people just apply. Indeed, dot Com is a great
- 24:46Speaker 1: sponsor of the bluet capture. By the way, go to
- 24:49Speaker 1: a d dot com fort slash credit today and get
- 24:50Speaker 1: your resume skills tests. Go ahead, there is But yeah,
- 24:54Speaker 1: I think that's the biggest one, like being able to
- 24:57Speaker 1: have extra hands ship the ship. Don Kennedy talk about
- 25:00Speaker 1: like most people probably think OPM is just a label.
- 25:02Speaker 1: That's a real business term. Like I learned that in
- 25:04Speaker 1: like business one on one, like one freshman year of college.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Like OPM that's other people's money. Yeah, using other people's money.
- 25:09Speaker 1: It's a literal business term, like through credit, through credit lines,
- 25:13Speaker 1: through loans and just making sure like you're not using
- 25:16Speaker 1: your own physical cash. Yeah, you're leveraging someone else's money. To,
- 25:19Speaker 1: you know. See, that's something that I think there's like
- 25:23Speaker 1: depending on who you talk to, there's mixed perceptions on that. Yeah,
- 25:27Speaker 1: because there's some people who are like have zero debt
- 25:30Speaker 1: always if you can't afford it, you know. But then
- 25:33Speaker 1: there's other there. But most more most people that I
- 25:36Speaker 1: know like to leverage debt in their favor facts cause
- 25:38Speaker 1: it's like, I mean, credit is pretty much just your
- 25:41Speaker 1: history of borrowing money. So at the end of the day,
- 25:43Speaker 1: the bigger shit you want to buy is the bigger
- 25:45Speaker 1: record of shit you have to have on your record
- 25:47Speaker 1: of actually borrowing and paying it back, even if you can,
- 25:50Speaker 1: even if you've got the money out right, I'm still
- 25:52Speaker 1: like I can go buy a MacBook right now. I
- 25:54Speaker 1: just bought a brand new desktop computer. But I just
- 25:57Speaker 1: financed it just because just so it can just come
- 25:59Speaker 1: on my account and just add to my credit score
- 26:01Speaker 1: to show like I'm still paying or something in a
- 26:02Speaker 1: positive way. So, I mean, it's it's so many like
- 26:06Speaker 1: life hacks when they come to like finances and financial literacy.
- 26:09Speaker 1: I think it's just out there just to research it though, Like, yeah,
- 26:11Speaker 1: I watched so many YouTube videos because like you know,
- 26:14Speaker 1: especially with the credit thing like I always. I started
- 26:17Speaker 1: telling a lot of people close to me, like, yo,
- 26:18Speaker 1: if you can afford to just use your credit card
- 26:22Speaker 1: for everything, but you have to pay it off this
- 26:24Speaker 1: year every month, where you're gonna get you know, credit card? Yeah,
- 26:28Speaker 1: interest rates interest, right, they're horrible. So I'm gonna give
- 26:31Speaker 1: you another hack though, so said, if you got too
- 26:34Speaker 1: much money on a credit card, let's you know, they
- 26:35Speaker 1: give you like twelve or sixteen months free. You can
- 26:38Speaker 1: do a balance transfer to a brand new credit card
- 26:40Speaker 1: and transfer your whole balance and get a whole another
- 26:42Speaker 1: sixteen months on a new credit card with that same
- 26:44Speaker 1: balance without the interest rate, without the interest rate. Wow.
- 26:48Speaker 1: So that's what most people really be doing. Like they'll
- 26:50Speaker 1: open up a credit card with Union Bank, run up
- 26:53Speaker 1: like ten fifteen thousand until the year hit up, and
- 26:56Speaker 1: at the end of the year, if they're not ready
- 26:57Speaker 1: to pay that off, all they're doing is just switching
- 26:59Speaker 1: that balance over to another bank, and they're giving you
- 27:02Speaker 1: another sixteen months to be like, oh, I just use
- 27:05Speaker 1: my credit card for everything and then I just pay
- 27:07Speaker 1: it down to like two dollars every month. No, I
- 27:10Speaker 1: do as will because I don't even I don't even
- 27:11Speaker 1: want to go through because then if you use your
- 27:13Speaker 1: credit card and some some some some shit happens or
- 27:16Speaker 1: it's it's you're totally not liable for it, you know,
- 27:19Speaker 1: Like it's if you use your debit card all the time.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Let's say you swipe it at the gas station and
- 27:24Speaker 1: someone fucking takes your ship. That's your actual money that's missing.
- 27:29Speaker 1: That's your money that's gone. And then now you got
- 27:31Speaker 1: to wait for the bank to get their shit together.
- 27:33Speaker 1: That happens with your credit card, You're like, oh, will
- 27:35Speaker 1: fuck it, I cancel my card. You guys will figure
- 27:37Speaker 1: that shit out. It's not coming out of my ass. Yeah,
- 27:40Speaker 1: hey my money. Yeah, but that's a great way to
- 27:42Speaker 1: like just build your credit, right. It's just yeah, credit
- 27:45Speaker 1: is I feel like not a lot of like, like
- 27:48Speaker 1: there's a lot of misconceptions about how people get credit.
- 27:51Speaker 1: People be like, man, I got to have my phone
- 27:53Speaker 1: for six years, bro, Like that shit don't matter, do
- 27:56Speaker 1: not matter. It only matters if you don't pay it.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Card notes, leases, house notes, real ship. You gotta finance
- 28:02Speaker 1: credit cards. Everyone should get a credit card. And then
- 28:05Speaker 1: another thing you can do is you can add like
- 28:08Speaker 1: if you have kids, you can add your children as
- 28:11Speaker 1: an authorized user on your credit card to start building
- 28:14Speaker 1: their mom got me right, My mom taught me all
- 28:17Speaker 1: this shit, so it was like definitely early on she
- 28:19Speaker 1: was on my ass about credit card utilization all that
- 28:22Speaker 1: type of stuff. So forgive me for not knowing this often.
- 28:26Speaker 1: I know, you guys just really There was a press
- 28:28Speaker 1: release that just came out recently about what you guys
- 28:30Speaker 1: are doing next year educa we did an admin deal
- 28:35Speaker 1: sh right, yeah, we'll want to travel and so we
- 28:37Speaker 1: pretty we did that with Ryan Press to Ryan Press,
- 28:42Speaker 1: so but then we also did one for Eagle as well,
- 28:44Speaker 1: so we got a joint venture a rebel with Ego.
- 28:48Speaker 1: So we just did the same thing to co publishing
- 28:50Speaker 1: with Blast and with Eagle as well, because we got
- 28:53Speaker 1: an artist signed to us as well. So whose artist?
- 28:55Speaker 1: Jay Million? Okay, yeah, yeah, so I mean he's been
- 28:58Speaker 1: working with us for a minute, but you know he
- 29:02Speaker 1: falls under that whole Ego bracket. Year producer do a
- 29:06Speaker 1: lot of stuff. You're hear his tag. He did half
- 29:08Speaker 1: the six tape two. The pub thing is interesting too
- 29:12Speaker 1: because it's also another avenue in which people have traditionally
- 29:17Speaker 1: gotten over on creatives. Right, do you think about the
- 29:19Speaker 1: MDRC shit, which is I guess kind of out now.
- 29:23Speaker 1: I've heard like it's very very frowned upon if like
- 29:26Speaker 1: a pub company offers you that, because it's very pati predatory. Yeah,
- 29:29Speaker 1: it's super predatory. I mean, I'm sure they're still in
- 29:32Speaker 1: this day. Well I'm saying I'm sure people are still
- 29:34Speaker 1: signing those. But like we think of like what hip
- 29:36Speaker 1: Boy was talking about recently, you know, and hip Boy
- 29:38Speaker 1: was in a really bad situation, so I mean, obviously
- 29:43Speaker 1: you guys took your time with getting a pub situation,
- 29:45Speaker 1: because yeah, for sure, I mean it just like like
- 29:49Speaker 1: I said, like we did so much within the merchandise
- 29:52Speaker 1: in space early on. I know, I bought a bunch
- 29:55Speaker 1: of shit too, bro. I think we probably made like
- 29:58Speaker 1: a good twenty thirty thousand off just the first two
- 30:02Speaker 1: three week sales and no Love lost merchandise when he
- 30:05Speaker 1: dropped that project. So it was like we were doing
- 30:07Speaker 1: so much in the space of merchandise and then these
- 30:10Speaker 1: Red Bull activations and then actually him like walk through
- 30:14Speaker 1: Money was so crazy this year just because it was
- 30:17Speaker 1: like we were on the left. We was in a
- 30:18Speaker 1: perfect situation to where he wasn't too big to do
- 30:22Speaker 1: a small club and do a walk through there. But
- 30:24Speaker 1: at the same time, like he wasn't too small to
- 30:27Speaker 1: not do some premier shit in La two though. So
- 30:30Speaker 1: just from those two spectrums and we was actually like
- 30:32Speaker 1: managing the money properly. It was just like we could
- 30:35Speaker 1: really take our time see what this shit actually mean.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Our lawyer he teaches music publishers, so that's like his
- 30:41Speaker 1: class at Dresu University, so that's like his specialty with
- 30:44Speaker 1: all of it. So he was just taking his time
- 30:46Speaker 1: with actually getting relationships with these right people and leverage
- 30:50Speaker 1: at the same time. Hell yeah, see who could actually
- 30:52Speaker 1: come through though, like seeing who can really deliver on
- 30:55Speaker 1: what they was talking about. So we've been going through
- 30:56Speaker 1: this process for like a year and some change. Yeah,
- 31:00Speaker 1: explain to me for I know why. But people might
- 31:05Speaker 1: not understand. When you guys announced the initial tour run,
- 31:10Speaker 1: Blast probably could have done like the Hollywood Bowl. Yeah,
- 31:13Speaker 1: but you guys did the ROXY, which was dope because
- 31:17Speaker 1: you guys did two nights. But from the outside looking in,
- 31:20Speaker 1: people might be like, why the fuck is the Blast
- 31:22Speaker 1: doing the Roxy, Like he's the biggest artist in the city,
- 31:24Speaker 1: He's the bigges artist in the state. You know what
- 31:26Speaker 1: I mean, Like, yeah, so kind of explain why artists
- 31:29Speaker 1: do that, because that's it. The same thing happened when
- 31:33Speaker 1: Roddy went on his first tour, like his first big
- 31:36Speaker 1: tour obviously, but like he was doing venues that like
- 31:40Speaker 1: most people be like, yeah, well the shit sold out
- 31:42Speaker 1: in twenty four hours, like he could have did this,
- 31:45Speaker 1: or but there's a reason why, Like yeah, I mean,
- 31:48Speaker 1: so everything mattered, like when it comes down to ticket sales,
- 31:51Speaker 1: like ticket sales is damn, they're like your your good
- 31:55Speaker 1: name in the streets, you know what I'm saying. When
- 31:56Speaker 1: it come to booking festivals, artists are getting the ticket
- 31:59Speaker 1: that they getting a festivals because what they doing and
- 32:01Speaker 1: their independent show ticket sales. So we already understood what
- 32:05Speaker 1: blass going into the festival season. Also with him that's
- 32:09Speaker 1: his first tour ever, so him having a game stage presence.
- 32:13Speaker 1: We actually let Allison and hired her internally as a
- 32:16Speaker 1: tour manager. See the first time tour manager. So we
- 32:20Speaker 1: were thinking about scaling the business before anything, you know
- 32:22Speaker 1: what I mean, Like we understand we got to scale
- 32:24Speaker 1: the business properly to what Blast talent is. Even though
- 32:27Speaker 1: he could have played bigger shows US as a company
- 32:29Speaker 1: may not have been suitable enough just to have the
- 32:32Speaker 1: write operations, you know what I'm saying, to maneuver throughout
- 32:35Speaker 1: these places on tour deal with that many people fulfill
- 32:38Speaker 1: that much merch and all that type of stuff. So
- 32:40Speaker 1: we just wanted to give ourselves a sample size one
- 32:43Speaker 1: and then two. It was a part of tradition. Like
- 32:45Speaker 1: Blast had never played the Roxy before, so it's like
- 32:48Speaker 1: he wanted to play the Roxy still, Like he's like
- 32:50Speaker 1: on New Year's he still want to play the Novo,
- 32:51Speaker 1: even though we can do bigger shows than the Novo
- 32:54Speaker 1: and so on and so forth in different cities. Yeah,
- 32:56Speaker 1: that makes sense. It's like like he he's blown up
- 33:00Speaker 1: so fast, but he hasn't. Like you said, it's like
- 33:04Speaker 1: you don't want to skip the like everyone has their Heyo,
- 33:08Speaker 1: I did the Roxy, I did the Novo. It's like
- 33:12Speaker 1: just because he might be past that, it's like you
- 33:14Speaker 1: still gotta kind of got some legacy ship. Yeah, you
- 33:17Speaker 1: gotta honor that. It's some la ship. Like if you
- 33:19Speaker 1: were to skip the Roxy and said he never did
- 33:21Speaker 1: a Roxy show, Like how would that be in your
- 33:23Speaker 1: biopic down the line, Like that's something that you want
- 33:26Speaker 1: to highlight because that's really to have that whole block
- 33:29Speaker 1: line down the line. That's like something to talk about
- 33:31Speaker 1: whether it did sell out in two seconds or not. Yeah, no,
- 33:34Speaker 1: for sure, we know we're not going back to the
- 33:36Speaker 1: Roxy now though it's a it's a sweat box for sure.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Every every I've been to the Roxy so much, every
- 33:43Speaker 1: time I go up, like it's gonna be so hot
- 33:44Speaker 1: of that bitch man, it's gonna be so sweating. Yeah,
- 33:47Speaker 1: you know, I'm with you. Go to that rainbow spot
- 33:50Speaker 1: next door or whatever this is that it's called the
- 33:52Speaker 1: restaurant next door that uh yeah, all the loot kebobs
- 33:55Speaker 1: and ship like that, all the like Motley that's where
- 33:57Speaker 1: one of the dues from Motley Crew overdose next door
- 33:59Speaker 1: at that really. Oh shit, I didn't know that fu
- 34:02Speaker 1: Yeah in that Netflix movie that Mgk's in. Yeah, yeah,
- 34:06Speaker 1: that I didn't know that. Yeah, wow, that's kind of nice. Yeah.
- 34:09Speaker 1: I went to I saw the baby there and that
- 34:11Speaker 1: I took my wife to eat there, and then Ron
- 34:14Speaker 1: Jeremy was in the booth next to us. I was like, yeah,
- 34:18Speaker 1: that's Ron Jeremy. And I told my wife who Ron
- 34:20Speaker 1: Jeremy was. Yeah, and she She was like, why do
- 34:23Speaker 1: you know what the dude's names are? What's wrong with you?
- 34:26Speaker 1: I'm like, but you don't understand. He's like a legend
- 34:28Speaker 1: like Ron Jeremy, Like I could see her perspective. He's
- 34:32Speaker 1: also a fucking a rapist who's in prison right now.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Oh yeah, they like hit him with like a like
- 34:38Speaker 1: I don't know, it's a solid amount of like like
- 34:42Speaker 1: in the last twelve months, I've been under a rock
- 34:44Speaker 1: for sure. For sure. I mean, I mean I've been
- 34:46Speaker 1: moving around radio. So like, you know, we look at
- 34:48Speaker 1: all every day. We got to do our fucking show prep.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Every random story that pops up, we have to talk
- 34:54Speaker 1: about it. Okay, I got you, I got you. Wait
- 34:56Speaker 1: hold on time to stop the interview because we got
- 34:58Speaker 1: to talk about our good folks that I socks man. Listen.

- 35:52Speaker 1: at odd socks. If you support us, go support them.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Has it been like, you know, for you on some
- 35:58Speaker 1: executive shit, like like you said, like you've you know,
- 36:01Speaker 1: you mentioned some of the other la imprints, whether it's
- 36:06Speaker 1: NIP or domb or TDE. It feels like you guys
- 36:11Speaker 1: are really with ego. It just feels it just feels fresh.
- 36:15Speaker 1: It feels like, you know, it feels different than anything
- 36:20Speaker 1: we've seen coming out of LA Yeah. I mean so,
- 36:22Speaker 1: I think one thing big thing to not is like also,
- 36:25Speaker 1: Blast is different than anything we've seen Yeah, that's all
- 36:27Speaker 1: I was gonna say. Like Blast is in game bang,
- 36:29Speaker 1: So it's like it really doesn't come with any type
- 36:31Speaker 1: of affiliation, you know what I mean. It's really just
- 36:34Speaker 1: kind of like the organic team that we built internally.
- 36:37Speaker 1: But at the same time, it's like Blast made du
- 36:39Speaker 1: Yogudda for hitter j FI isn't hit ji, right, I
- 36:43Speaker 1: think J hit a J three hit a J three.
- 36:46Speaker 1: He made that and like Kendrick yg problem, all of
- 36:48Speaker 1: them was on that in like twenty and thirteen type shit,
- 36:51Speaker 1: you know. But so Blast has worked with probably every
- 36:55Speaker 1: single artist from at least a artists from every single
- 36:58Speaker 1: hood from Compton to la whether it be making him
- 37:00Speaker 1: graphic design, doing doing the engineer and they beat. So
- 37:04Speaker 1: I think people just respect like the organic build from
- 37:07Speaker 1: Blast and understand like he always just played his lane
- 37:10Speaker 1: and never try to jump in nothing else. Yeah. Bro,
- 37:13Speaker 1: it's just like we coming from a standpoint to where
- 37:16Speaker 1: we're not going into it doing a deal with a
- 37:18Speaker 1: major right away, Like we took a real left field approach.
- 37:23Speaker 1: But a left field approach was a gamble, but it worked.
- 37:26Speaker 1: I mean, I say I say this like this, the
- 37:29Speaker 1: thing is like, what's dope? About Blast is like, there's
- 37:31Speaker 1: no It's one of the few cases in music where
- 37:35Speaker 1: it's really all about how good the music is. Because
- 37:37Speaker 1: Blash is a very mellow dude. I would say he
- 37:41Speaker 1: might be an introvert, Like definitely, he's very chill, Like
- 37:44Speaker 1: there's no like, doesn't smoke weed, he doesn't smoke weed,
- 37:47Speaker 1: he doesn't like, he's not wrapped up in no bullshit,
- 37:49Speaker 1: there's no Instagram antics. It's just like it's all about
- 37:52Speaker 1: the music and the branding, and like I feel like
- 37:54Speaker 1: for you that I mean, especially coming out of LA,
- 37:56Speaker 1: we see so much where the politics of l A
- 37:59Speaker 1: getting I mean, it's politics everywhere. You feel me like,
- 38:02Speaker 1: you gotta deal with them when you gotta deal with them.
- 38:04Speaker 1: But for the most part, I feel like everybody on
- 38:07Speaker 1: our team, including myself and Blast and even Shit to security,
- 38:11Speaker 1: even the engineers, videographers, everybody just we have mutual respect
- 38:15Speaker 1: from our peers just because again none of us are
- 38:18Speaker 1: even involved in the streets, like we allt and grew
- 38:20Speaker 1: up in south central LA. But again we've always played
- 38:23Speaker 1: our perspective lanes whatever that was, and then now we
- 38:27Speaker 1: in this position, I think people just respect how we
- 38:29Speaker 1: move and how we get around and how we really
- 38:32Speaker 1: not nobody else business but ours. What is is the
- 38:37Speaker 1: long term goal to kind of ride out with Red
- 38:39Speaker 1: Bull and just you know, I mean right now, I mean,
- 38:42Speaker 1: like I said, we got the JV with them, We
- 38:44Speaker 1: just did that. So of course building out through through
- 38:47Speaker 1: Red Bull seeing the other things that have to offer.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Because again, mind you, we've done all this not in
- 38:54Speaker 1: the office for real buy during the pandemic. All this
- 38:56Speaker 1: happened during the past. So we've only had two meetings
- 38:59Speaker 1: of Red Bull in the Red Ball office to one
- 39:01Speaker 1: was to actually have the meeting about if we wanted
- 39:04Speaker 1: to do the deal, which was in twenty nineteen, and
- 39:08Speaker 1: the other one was just this past month when we
- 39:11Speaker 1: did a twenty twenty two planning meeting. So that's the
- 39:14Speaker 1: first time we met all the new hires, all the
- 39:17Speaker 1: new people that we've only been seeing it on zoom. Yeah. Right,
- 39:19Speaker 1: So just like actually being able to be in the
- 39:21Speaker 1: physical or Red Bull now, I feel like that's gonna
- 39:23Speaker 1: take it up either another notch. Right, We're going to
- 39:26Speaker 1: Miami in May to do the F one event. Like
- 39:28Speaker 1: Red Bull team they pit team and then they actual
- 39:30Speaker 1: racer just won both events. So they're building a whole
- 39:33Speaker 1: track around the Miami Dolphin Stadium. I know that one
- 39:36Speaker 1: is serious. It's ridiculous, right, It's like it's almost like,
- 39:38Speaker 1: you know, we live here in the States and we
- 39:40Speaker 1: don't understand, Like I mean, some people understand how big
- 39:43Speaker 1: soccer and soccer's like I guess a little bit different
- 39:44Speaker 1: because you know, if you grew up around Latinos, you
- 39:46Speaker 1: understand soccer is a fucking the thing. But like F
- 39:49Speaker 1: one racing, no one, I don't know though, Like I
- 39:53Speaker 1: didn't realize how big of a deal it is, right Netflix,
- 39:55Speaker 1: So its right, yeah, blew everybody mind. But I mean,
- 39:58Speaker 1: you know, just even shit like that, we won't have
- 40:00Speaker 1: so many opportunities to cross promote what Blast brand is
- 40:04Speaker 1: and integrate that into a whole different culture that has
- 40:06Speaker 1: nothing really to do with hip hop at all. It's amazing,
- 40:09Speaker 1: but I feel like F one is damn there like
- 40:10Speaker 1: the race the race cars of hip hop though it's
- 40:12Speaker 1: like the hip hop NASCAR. What's the name of the
- 40:15Speaker 1: the guy who uh is like the guy in Yeah,
- 40:19Speaker 1: I forget his name. He he just lost to the
- 40:21Speaker 1: Rebel but he's won like ten years straight though, so
- 40:24Speaker 1: he's like hem he like, he's the person in this world.
- 40:27Speaker 1: I can't remember his name. I just think of a
- 40:30Speaker 1: borat Sosherbaric Cohen playing the F one racer who joined
- 40:34Speaker 1: NASCAR and raced Ricky Bobby Yeah, calib that's funny. Ricky
- 40:40Speaker 1: Booby Yeah nah. So I mean, you know, just kind
- 40:43Speaker 1: of trying to dive in more to what Rebel has offered,
- 40:46Speaker 1: just from a brand standpoint, being like in blast position
- 40:51Speaker 1: and being such a staple in LA hip hop for
- 40:54Speaker 1: a long time that maybe wasn't you know, like I said,
- 40:57Speaker 1: he was kind of you know, LA's best capt for
- 41:00Speaker 1: a long time. I can only imagine have you guys
- 41:04Speaker 1: ran into old blast shit people trying to put it
- 41:08Speaker 1: out like, hey yo, we did this in twenty sixteen,
- 41:11Speaker 1: yeah every week. So how do you deal with that?
- 41:15Speaker 1: Do you like let do you let let shit fly?
- 41:17Speaker 1: Or do you say, hey, look man, it's times are
- 41:19Speaker 1: different now. Nah. I mean me, I think the whole
- 41:22Speaker 1: point of having a manager in the first place is
- 41:24Speaker 1: so as an artist, you don't have to have those
- 41:26Speaker 1: awkward conversations like sometimes if you got a personal relationship
- 41:29Speaker 1: with the person, yeah, you're gonna have to have that
- 41:31Speaker 1: conversation on your own sometimes because they gonna come directly
- 41:34Speaker 1: to you because they probably got your number, or being spaces.
- 41:37Speaker 1: But for the most part, it's me having a conversation.
- 41:39Speaker 1: It's like, hey, my music, and it's like it's not
- 41:42Speaker 1: it's not like it's disrespect. It's just more so like
- 41:45Speaker 1: what we're doing with the culture that we build in
- 41:47Speaker 1: the timeline that we still don't line up. Yeah, just
- 41:49Speaker 1: don't line up. It got I say, all business has
- 41:52Speaker 1: to be mutually beneficial. I've had at least once or
- 41:56Speaker 1: twice someone play me blast records in the studio here
- 42:00Speaker 1: that like are old. Yeah, like yeah, you know, we've
- 42:03Speaker 1: just been holding this and good luck. Yeah it's never
- 42:06Speaker 1: coming out. But I mean, you know, it's all like
- 42:09Speaker 1: super peculiar artists art it Like I don't sound like
- 42:12Speaker 1: that no more, one hundred Every artist is like that, right, Yeah,
- 42:16Speaker 1: it's so crazy to be like, but this shit is fire,
- 42:17Speaker 1: and like that shit happens with my artists all the time.
- 42:21Speaker 1: But we'll have a song that we love and it's
- 42:23Speaker 1: like a year old, and man, that shit is old,
- 42:25Speaker 1: and it's like but it's fire, like just like you
- 42:28Speaker 1: held onto it too long. Yeah, And so yeah, we
- 42:31Speaker 1: get that every day. I just had that conversation yesterday
- 42:33Speaker 1: with No. He's definitely I feel like shaping up to
- 42:37Speaker 1: kind of being the like you know, he was on
- 42:40Speaker 1: Ross's album, He's on NAS's album. I mean, he's been
- 42:42Speaker 1: on so many people's but it feels like some real
- 42:46Speaker 1: Nate Dog, you know, kind of filling that gap of
- 42:49Speaker 1: being like the hook guy now and then and by
- 42:51Speaker 1: the way, with having amazing solo records that are number
- 42:55Speaker 1: ones simultaneously in two formats, which I don't think Nate
- 42:59Speaker 1: Dog ever did with his so the records, God bless him.
- 43:01Speaker 1: But but yeah, like like you guys feel that too,
- 43:04Speaker 1: like you, I mean, I feel like everyone's probably saying
- 43:07Speaker 1: that for sure, for sure. And then I mean, yeah,
- 43:09Speaker 1: the hooks all the time, Like I think blasts voice
- 43:12Speaker 1: is just super unique, like in an R and B space,
- 43:14Speaker 1: because it's not like he likes singing his heart out
- 43:16Speaker 1: like it's so it's so it's so easy to like, yeah,
- 43:20Speaker 1: it's like rap singing, you know. So, but I mean
- 43:22Speaker 1: he could take it there if you want to. So
- 43:24Speaker 1: I think, like the Ross record, like, I don't think
- 43:26Speaker 1: nobody really ever heard Blast come off like that on
- 43:29Speaker 1: the hook, Like right out the gate in a minute
- 43:31Speaker 1: at least compared to his old shit. But even now
- 43:35Speaker 1: it's like, shit, people want that sauce and they want
- 43:37Speaker 1: that organic West Coast field without having to feel like
- 43:40Speaker 1: they're being super cliche and like, okay, yeah, let me
- 43:43Speaker 1: tap in with Blast see what he got going, just
- 43:45Speaker 1: to make sure that we're not, you know what I'm saying,
- 43:47Speaker 1: skipping over something that could be a good long term relationship.
- 43:50Speaker 1: What's something you talked about being around Dame earlier? What
- 43:53Speaker 1: was something you learned about being around Dame Dash because
- 43:55Speaker 1: we spent one night with him and that I mean, man,
- 43:57Speaker 1: the guy was just yeah, profusely, just spewing jewels the
- 44:01Speaker 1: whole time. Yeah. I mean at the time, I was like,
- 44:03Speaker 1: so I was like twenty, I was fresh out of college,
- 44:06Speaker 1: so that's twenty fifteen. It's like six years. Oh yeah,
- 44:09Speaker 1: that's a while ago. I was twenty three years old.
- 44:13Speaker 1: I mean, it just learned like, don't take it personal,
- 44:16Speaker 1: like you feel me. Like the first day I walked
- 44:18Speaker 1: in the office about the internship, he asked me like,
- 44:21Speaker 1: who the fuck are you? Like why are you in here?
- 44:24Speaker 1: And I'm just like, well, shit, it's either I'm gonna
- 44:26Speaker 1: get upset or I'm about to start talking and tell
- 44:28Speaker 1: these niggas what I do. So I got to talking,
- 44:30Speaker 1: you feel me. But I think just understanding, like again,
- 44:35Speaker 1: personality types, understanding like how to work with certain artists,
- 44:38Speaker 1: because by the time I got to working with blast as,
- 44:41Speaker 1: like I walk in the park dealing with Dame or
- 44:43Speaker 1: just sitting in meetings and taking notes and being like
- 44:46Speaker 1: a minute taking on meetings with Dame and shit like that,
- 44:49Speaker 1: being a fly on the wall, like all that type
- 44:51Speaker 1: of stuff. I think it just helped me move into
- 44:53Speaker 1: the space of like, I don't really get too imbalanced
- 44:57Speaker 1: if people be out of their mind or you know
- 44:59Speaker 1: what I'm saying, or you feel like they comeing off disrespectful,
- 45:01Speaker 1: because most of the time it's just be people delivery
- 45:03Speaker 1: at the end of the day. And if you take
- 45:05Speaker 1: this shit personal, it's like, I'm not taking a shit
- 45:06Speaker 1: home with me. This is basically work for real, for real.
- 45:10Speaker 1: So yeah, I think that's something that people need to
- 45:13Speaker 1: learn how to do better. It's just like a lot
- 45:16Speaker 1: of people take a broad stroke approach to how they
- 45:19Speaker 1: deal with people, like they just deal with people all
- 45:21Speaker 1: the same way. But if you know certain people are
- 45:23Speaker 1: certain ways you gotta kind of I think that's just
- 45:26Speaker 1: a good a good yeah attribute of a leader. You know.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Not everyone's going to take the same approach to the
- 45:34Speaker 1: same person because everyone's got different ways they react. And
- 45:36Speaker 1: for sure you watch did you watch Game of Thrones
- 45:39Speaker 1: when I was on of course, So like I tell people,
- 45:42Speaker 1: like people be asking about the same type of question,
- 45:45Speaker 1: I'm like, you gotta just treat it like Ariya in
- 45:47Speaker 1: the Mini Faced God, Like every room you walk in,
- 45:49Speaker 1: you just gotta become a different person. Sometimes you may
- 45:51Speaker 1: be in a student position. Yeah, it's like, you know,
- 45:56Speaker 1: I am nobody for real. So it's like that's the
- 45:58Speaker 1: approach you gotta take, Like, yeah, I am who I am.
- 46:02Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, if I walk
- 46:04Speaker 1: in a room with Benny Boom, I'm sitting on the
- 46:06Speaker 1: couch in the corner and just really soaking in the
- 46:09Speaker 1: game or taking whatever order it is if they hear
- 46:12Speaker 1: to deliver it to me. But when I'm walking in
- 46:13Speaker 1: a room with the Eagle Staff, I'm the person delivering
- 46:16Speaker 1: that message, you know what I'm saying. But it's taking
- 46:18Speaker 1: out the ego to understand the difference between those phases,
- 46:21Speaker 1: though what is something from your experience so far up
- 46:26Speaker 1: and coming artists. We talked earlier about how sometimes we
- 46:30Speaker 1: talked about that the video behind Blast would cost fifteen grand, right,
- 46:34Speaker 1: which is a lot, right, that's crazy. But what are
- 46:36Speaker 1: some things that you see artists wasting money on or
- 46:40Speaker 1: maybe getting taken advantage of that, you know, whether it's
- 46:46Speaker 1: video production, whether it's you know, it annoys me when
- 46:50Speaker 1: I have homies that are up and cooming artists and
- 46:51Speaker 1: they're like, hey, this guy hit me. He's saying he
- 46:53Speaker 1: could get me on complex and all these blogs you
- 46:55Speaker 1: think I should do it, and I'm like fuck numb, Like,
- 46:58Speaker 1: but what are some of those things is that you know,
- 47:01Speaker 1: you kind of think artists could save some money on,
- 47:04Speaker 1: or that you see them getting took on a little
- 47:07Speaker 1: you know, I see it happening a lot. So I
- 47:09Speaker 1: think one music videos, right, Like some artists think that
- 47:17Speaker 1: they got to go pay a bag to a director
- 47:19Speaker 1: and that just because they got a bunch of bread
- 47:21Speaker 1: in the video and like a bunch of females in
- 47:23Speaker 1: the video, it's gonna go right when it's like you
- 47:25Speaker 1: can really do the opposite, like I said, like touchdown
- 47:28Speaker 1: on these college campuses, and realize, like there's a whole
- 47:30Speaker 1: film department of a bunch of kids that need work,
- 47:33Speaker 1: and it's probably some out there that's actually going to
- 47:35Speaker 1: be the next who's who to be able to tap
- 47:38Speaker 1: in with them and get on that type of level
- 47:40Speaker 1: because it's all about recruiting from the ground source. So
- 47:42Speaker 1: I feel like in the digital digital media space, photography
- 47:47Speaker 1: and videography, like a lot of videographers get over on
- 47:51Speaker 1: artists just because they don't understand like the one two
- 47:54Speaker 1: step process with the differences and having a steady cam
- 47:57Speaker 1: and the difference between having a handheld camera, like the
- 48:00Speaker 1: price difference between all that type of stuff. I also think, PR, damn,
- 48:04Speaker 1: it'll be jipping sometimes too, because it's like explain that
- 48:07Speaker 1: because you could have that background, and like, yeah, like
- 48:10Speaker 1: public relations is pretty much like one people need to
- 48:14Speaker 1: understand and PR. They're pitching your story to people and
- 48:18Speaker 1: they can't guarantee anything. You can't guarantee, and the same
- 48:21Speaker 1: way no label could guarantee you to be on right.
- 48:24Speaker 1: Nobody can guarantee. All they can do is put you
- 48:27Speaker 1: in front of the people and hopefully the person who
- 48:30Speaker 1: is pitching you has a good enough relationship to where
- 48:32Speaker 1: they don't accept. So that's what that is, like, right, Like,
- 48:35Speaker 1: it's not it don't matter about if you pay five
- 48:38Speaker 1: thousand to the PR you may give three fucking pickups.
- 48:41Speaker 1: It's about the product that's on there. So I'll be
- 48:42Speaker 1: telling people all the time, like you don't need a
- 48:45Speaker 1: PR if you do not have the demand for PR
- 48:48Speaker 1: right now, Like, I understand you want to service some
- 48:50Speaker 1: music out there, but that's what you got Google ad Words,
- 48:53Speaker 1: Facebook marketing, Sprizzy, you got all that type of stuff
- 48:55Speaker 1: to be able to do back end marketing for people
- 48:58Speaker 1: to actually get to be able to see it because
- 49:00Speaker 1: most of the times, motherfucker's not reading articles knowing. Yeah,
- 49:04Speaker 1: I think that the most like overrated shit is like
- 49:07Speaker 1: you know, back in the day, your life might get
- 49:10Speaker 1: changed if you ended up on a complex or two
- 49:14Speaker 1: Dope Boys or whatever blog, right, but like yeah, whatever
- 49:18Speaker 1: it is, right, But nowadays it's like we're not even
- 49:21Speaker 1: consuming like media that way anymore. Like unfortunately, you know,
- 49:25Speaker 1: obviously those sites are still very you know, they they
- 49:28Speaker 1: produce dope content, they do dope things. But like you know,
- 49:31Speaker 1: there used to be a time when if you got
- 49:34Speaker 1: one of those looks, it would matter yeah, but it
- 49:37Speaker 1: would move the needle. But it doesn't move the needle anymore.
- 49:39Speaker 1: It doesn't because streaming platforms took they pretty much their essence.
- 49:43Speaker 1: If you take if you take five grand and give
- 49:44Speaker 1: it to a pr person they get on these websites,
- 49:46Speaker 1: it's like you might as well you should have tooken
- 49:47Speaker 1: that five grand and shot five videos. Yeah for sure.
- 49:51Speaker 1: Me personally, I look at pr as like just momentum pushes.
- 49:57Speaker 1: I don't even think them articles really be that important.
- 49:59Speaker 1: But perspective is Yeah, it's for your consumer to see like, oh,
- 50:04Speaker 1: he looks like he bubbling up right now, he got
- 50:06Speaker 1: a double like reinformation, Yeah, just a bomb to drop,
- 50:09Speaker 1: just to be like keep your momentum going in, but
- 50:11Speaker 1: to keep the channel noisies as they're saying journalism like
- 50:14Speaker 1: keep the fans almost excited, like oh yeah, this ship
- 50:17Speaker 1: is going. Yeah. It is kind of crazy because if
- 50:19Speaker 1: fans think or see certain things, it makes them want
- 50:23Speaker 1: to fuck with you even more, even though that they're
- 50:25Speaker 1: like I noticed that, bro. It's like Sigmund Freud, the
- 50:28Speaker 1: power of the subconscious, Like somebody mental so much and
- 50:32Speaker 1: you you present something it's Instagram at the end of
- 50:34Speaker 1: the day, Like you present one thing to them so much,
- 50:37Speaker 1: they're gonna start to take that in and really like
- 50:39Speaker 1: associate that with you, regardless of if you're telling him
- 50:42Speaker 1: that they are actually like just giving them a visual
- 50:45Speaker 1: of that. Shit. It's gonna go the way you want
- 50:47Speaker 1: it to go if you if you consistently, because nowadays,
- 50:49Speaker 1: right there's like, uh, our generation, now what's it called?
- 50:53Speaker 1: They just like all these ig pages and people paying
- 50:55Speaker 1: it on, right Yeah, and like you'll see the ones
- 50:58Speaker 1: you know that are like it's like, Okay, this guy's
- 51:02Speaker 1: paid for that. Look God. And now unfortunately with some
- 51:07Speaker 1: of these pages, it's like almost most of them you
- 51:09Speaker 1: could tell are like the label dropping the bag. So
- 51:11Speaker 1: would you say world Star started that though? For sure,
- 51:14Speaker 1: because world Star pretty much start the whole business model, right, Yeah,
- 51:17Speaker 1: for sure. Internship posted and then but see world Star
- 51:20Speaker 1: used to really like damn there. I don't think people
- 51:23Speaker 1: was understanding like what like Google own YouTube and all
- 51:26Speaker 1: that shit. So I don't think they understood like world
- 51:29Speaker 1: Star was just taking a personal in money you paid
- 51:30Speaker 1: anyway and just putting it behind the ads and shit
- 51:33Speaker 1: like that. So that's why I was picking up so
- 51:34Speaker 1: many views. But again it's a difference between people looking
- 51:38Speaker 1: at the system from the broad perspective or looking at
- 51:41Speaker 1: it from like a functionality perspective. Yeah. Now, the World
- 51:44Speaker 1: Star thing was like I had some homies over there,
- 51:48Speaker 1: so I never really had to you know, we had
- 51:51Speaker 1: a music video we put up on on their YouTube
- 51:54Speaker 1: page that they did they just looked out for me
- 51:56Speaker 1: on for free. But usually they were charged. I mean
- 51:58Speaker 1: this is a two years ago. They were charging people
- 52:01Speaker 1: eight grand just to upload their video on their channel.
- 52:04Speaker 1: I remember I had a good artist I worked with
- 52:06Speaker 1: like in the past, and it's like, yeah, they got
- 52:08Speaker 1: twelve million subscribers. I get it. But it's like the
- 52:11Speaker 1: other thing people don't understand is if a YouTube video
- 52:14Speaker 1: is uploaded on any other page but your own, right
- 52:17Speaker 1: or your labels, it's not uh, you can't put it
- 52:20Speaker 1: towards your album sales, right, Yeah, you can't monetize that
- 52:23Speaker 1: towards I said, just because it's like a well, I
- 52:24Speaker 1: don't know if it's the same now, but I know
- 52:26Speaker 1: before you didn't. Yeah, like it didn't count towards your
- 52:28Speaker 1: total sales, right, Like, so if you wanted to go
- 52:30Speaker 1: number one, or you wanted to go gold or whatever,
- 52:32Speaker 1: like not register what's that shit called your upc whatever
- 52:35Speaker 1: it is. Yeah, and you think of like damn look
- 52:38Speaker 1: at all like someone like you know, young boy who
- 52:42Speaker 1: had a lot of his relea shit on World Star
- 52:43Speaker 1: or just like something like damn, like imagine some of
- 52:45Speaker 1: those I mean, by the way, most of those songs
- 52:47Speaker 1: are gold or plating them anyway. But yeah, but so
- 52:49Speaker 1: many people probably could have gotten a plaque if they
- 52:51Speaker 1: would have just yeah, but also they might not have
- 52:54Speaker 1: had the had the you know, if it wasn't on
- 52:56Speaker 1: the World Star page, maybe not as many people would
- 52:58Speaker 1: have discovered it. I'm pretty sure, like hell of conversation
- 53:01Speaker 1: with artists that really just don't give a fuck to
- 53:03Speaker 1: learn about none of that shit. Oh nah, yeah, most.
- 53:05Speaker 1: I mean I think now people are starting to get
- 53:10Speaker 1: a little bit more interested in that. I feel like
- 53:14Speaker 1: though the last few years, there was a lot of
- 53:16Speaker 1: artists that would just come in that were just like,
- 53:18Speaker 1: what is my kid doing in there? Jesus? But yeah, no,
- 53:23Speaker 1: I feel like that. I feel like recently it seems
- 53:25Speaker 1: as if most artists are trying to be more self
- 53:27Speaker 1: aware of the business. You know, I shout out to
- 53:31Speaker 1: russ I think Russe has done a good job of
- 53:33Speaker 1: like trying to educate people. No, Russ is dope, and
- 53:39Speaker 1: he'd be really giving it. Like honestly, people really should
- 53:42Speaker 1: just listen, Like Russ is not lying to y'all, right,
- 53:44Speaker 1: Like he's not saying you might not like the messenger.
- 53:47Speaker 1: And by the way, Russe is to me as fire
- 53:49Speaker 1: as fuck, but you might. You know, I understand, Oh
- 53:52Speaker 1: he was amazing that Trumps is amazing. But but he's
- 53:55Speaker 1: telling everyone the truth. You know, He's like what he's
- 53:58Speaker 1: saying is like, yo, if Drake or Kendrick or one
- 54:00Speaker 1: of these guys decided to go and if Drake went independent,
- 54:03Speaker 1: it break it breaks the record game, yeah for sure,
- 54:06Speaker 1: because it would like fully pull the mask off. And
- 54:10Speaker 1: so I think that's what stope upbout what you guys
- 54:12Speaker 1: are doing, because you guys easily could have signed with anyone,
- 54:15Speaker 1: Like I know this, you know, so like you know, uh,
- 54:19Speaker 1: to to do the red bull approach is like it's
- 54:23Speaker 1: funny too, because I don't think everybody was like, you know,
- 54:26Speaker 1: people are trying to throw like a little jazz. Oh
- 54:28Speaker 1: I dude me And when me and had saw that ship,
- 54:30Speaker 1: we were like wow, hmm. And you know, I just
- 54:34Speaker 1: think of as a warm Brew that was on Red
- 54:36Speaker 1: Bull and they had another. I just was like, I
- 54:40Speaker 1: just never seen a work because I'm not hip to
- 54:42Speaker 1: I'm not hip to the rock groups you're talking about.
- 54:44Speaker 1: I just know that I've seen rappers signed the Red Bull.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Yeah I've seen it. Like you know, I mean, bro
- 54:49Speaker 1: really to be thousands with you, like shout out to
- 54:51Speaker 1: re Bull for sure. Like also there's a difference in
- 54:53Speaker 1: the product product. No disrespect the warm Brew, but you
- 54:55Speaker 1: guys are like generational talents. Like when you can whoever
- 54:59Speaker 1: you and across a rear Bull ever, like you can
- 55:02Speaker 1: ask them this the fact check it Like the first
- 55:04Speaker 1: meeting we ever had a Red Bull, we was like,
- 55:07Speaker 1: we want to own all the incellary income that all
- 55:10Speaker 1: the masters were not doing the publishing deal with you
- 55:13Speaker 1: and we're only doing the one off for a short license.
- 55:15Speaker 1: And they was like what. And then we came back
- 55:18Speaker 1: to the second meeting with like a Manila envelope all
- 55:20Speaker 1: the numbers and shit from this your kid and all
- 55:22Speaker 1: the products, and then we broke down the whole staff
- 55:24Speaker 1: for the flow chart and they was like, oh shit,
- 55:27Speaker 1: like y'all already operate as a real company. And I
- 55:29Speaker 1: think that's the biggest, biggest difference, the fact that we
- 55:31Speaker 1: were able to show and actually communicate what our business
- 55:35Speaker 1: vision was, how we seen the whole year going, and
- 55:38Speaker 1: then have the music attached to it on top of that.
- 55:41Speaker 1: And nobody's going into those meetings that way. Most people aren't. No,
- 55:44Speaker 1: I would say like ninety most of the time. It's like,
- 55:47Speaker 1: you know, you go to a meeting, they get a
- 55:49Speaker 1: little spiell I do this, I do this, and it's
- 55:51Speaker 1: like so this song, this song. Yeah. Yeah. So majority
- 55:55Speaker 1: of the time it's just me and Blas going into
- 55:56Speaker 1: these meetings because our attorney in New Jersey. So it's
- 55:59Speaker 1: like me and him walking in. I'm damning wearing basketball
- 56:01Speaker 1: source of these meetings and last and the damn Dickie
- 56:04Speaker 1: suit or something like that, and they talking to us
- 56:06Speaker 1: like we're just a natural rapper. And then once we
- 56:09Speaker 1: get to actually having conversation and tell them like what
- 56:11Speaker 1: we want in the breakdowns and all this type of shit,
- 56:14Speaker 1: like everybody jawers be dropped and they'd be like, aha,
- 56:17Speaker 1: like one of these labels we went, they literally stopped
- 56:21Speaker 1: this mid conversation, was like, bro, this is above my
- 56:24Speaker 1: pay grade, like we get just in this meeting. I
- 56:26Speaker 1: can't even have conversations about the type of shit that's
- 56:29Speaker 1: so crazy. So you guys, do you know, would you
- 56:31Speaker 1: say you pretty much had meetings with most of the majors?
- 56:35Speaker 1: I don't know what major we haven't met with. Yeah,
- 56:37Speaker 1: we met with every major, every single one. Damn. I'm
- 56:42Speaker 1: trying to think. Yeah, was there a situation that was
- 56:46Speaker 1: a close second as far as what you guys are considering? Uh?
- 56:51Speaker 1: I mean, I think when we after we finished that
- 56:54Speaker 1: one off portion, we were considering everything, you know, like
- 56:57Speaker 1: we knew we were at a different place in negotiations
- 56:59Speaker 1: to go to negotiate with a major just because we
- 57:02Speaker 1: knew they couldn't give us anything less than Rebel had
- 57:04Speaker 1: already given us on paper. So we was like, all right,
- 57:07Speaker 1: that precedent has already said, so we know, at the minimum,
- 57:10Speaker 1: if our mind I made up, we can go to
- 57:12Speaker 1: another one off in another place, match that same deal
- 57:15Speaker 1: and see what comes from that. But uh, we got
- 57:18Speaker 1: some great relationships with some other people of different labels,
- 57:20Speaker 1: but it didn't ever go that far to where we
- 57:23Speaker 1: was like biting nails, like, fuck, what do we do?
- 57:25Speaker 1: That's fair? And get that far what is uh what
- 57:28Speaker 1: obviously big New Year's show, so I think sold out.
- 57:32Speaker 1: They sold out in two and a half minutes. That
- 57:34Speaker 1: shit's crazy two and a half minutes. Obviously we're waiting
- 57:40Speaker 1: for the official Blast album. Yeah, gonna get in next year.
- 57:47Speaker 1: I know Blast is gonna drop probably something in between
- 57:51Speaker 1: his next album, so another another like something, yeah, probably
- 57:54Speaker 1: like another small EP. Definitely, you know, music is still
- 57:58Speaker 1: just ramping up. I mean, Blast got so much music, bro.
- 58:01Speaker 1: I gotta note on my phone with like seventy five
- 58:03Speaker 1: songs in it. So it's like you make music every day,
- 58:06Speaker 1: you record at home every day, so it's like it's
- 58:08Speaker 1: never ending. But anymore collab projects, I mean don't I
- 58:15Speaker 1: don't know, well, we don't have none on the calendar
- 58:17Speaker 1: for the collab projects. But I also think that I
- 58:21Speaker 1: don't really think anybody else would be able to capture
- 58:24Speaker 1: like the chemistry like him and Beino got. And that's
- 58:27Speaker 1: not even saying like it's not much larger artists that
- 58:30Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying that are in Bino's category,
- 58:33Speaker 1: like in different parts of the country and stuff, but
- 58:36Speaker 1: just the organic build that it was and a time
- 58:38Speaker 1: that we were both in like Nip had just passed away,
- 58:41Speaker 1: last was just producing for beingo and Beno didn't even
- 58:45Speaker 1: know Blast was an artist, right, So it was like
- 58:47Speaker 1: through all of that, that's how that shit just built
- 58:49Speaker 1: so naturally in the sound of a built naturally. But
- 58:53Speaker 1: I can't see that being replicated. To be honest with you, Well,
- 58:55Speaker 1: let me ask you this, because there was some records
- 58:57Speaker 1: on six tape two, pop Out being one of them,
- 59:00Speaker 1: like where I was like, Yo, this song, why is
- 59:05Speaker 1: I'll tell you how what I heard from the deaf
- 59:07Speaker 1: jam side, So essentially like Yo, why the fucking y'all
- 59:10Speaker 1: activating pop Out a radio or whatever, And they'd be like,
- 59:13Speaker 1: we can't because it's Blast side on their side. They're
- 59:16Speaker 1: not clearing that side, you know, like because I felt
- 59:19Speaker 1: like that was like just the whole entire project of
- 59:22Speaker 1: records that could have went I mean, and they did
- 59:24Speaker 1: go crazy, but I mean in terms of like budgets,
- 59:27Speaker 1: radio pushes, whatever, like yeah, I think that, I mean,
- 59:31Speaker 1: I think on that side, I don't think that really
- 59:34Speaker 1: was like low hanging fruit for like us, like for Eagle.
- 59:37Speaker 1: I think that's more so having to do with like
- 59:39Speaker 1: probably radio politics, because you know, they was doing working
- 59:42Speaker 1: chosen all at the same time, right, so you as
- 59:45Speaker 1: you know, you got whole working shorty shorty, right, And
- 59:49Speaker 1: so with when it comes down to like these radio
- 59:53Speaker 1: teams what I'm and this is my first year working
- 59:55Speaker 1: on radio teams, but they get hell of feisty and
- 59:58Speaker 1: like possessive over they shit too. So it was like
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: a lot of that stuff don't even be making it
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: back to us of having conversation about taking us from
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: shit to radio or like just activating behind certain stuff.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: But even on top of it, I think that both
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: of them just where uh Beino was in his process
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: with they camp and then where Blast was at like
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: coming to were trying to renegotiate the red Bull situation.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: It just wasn't on either side. I don't think it
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: was like available for us to just be like full
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: blown out, let's go crazy, because it was so much
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: great area in between like both sides and an individual
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: business or whatever makes sense sense. So from what I know,
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: I just thought that I thought we got three videos.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: It was a great project. Yeah, we did the premiere.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: Did you come to the movie? Shit? I did not.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: We did the documentary premiere, shot the documentary all that
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: type of stuff. But definitely I feel like there's probably
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: some music on there that, you know, if more of
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: the world heard, it probably would have went crazier. But well,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: there it is, man. Anything like, obviously, you guys have
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: been dropping so much merch I feel like you guys
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: dropped merch often. Yeah, it's feels like you know, yeah,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: I mean everything's are you is this something that Blast
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: has direct his hands directly on the designs or so
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Blast does all the designs for the merch Yeah, all
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: of them. Yeah, so all the tour merch. There's probably
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: one design on the tour merchy like this little bibblehead
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: I think he didn't do. But everything else as far
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: as like the sheesh button, all the different logos and shit,
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: that's all Blasts. So he's doing his design part and
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: I do the actual manufacturing, getting distributed, sourcing, fabrics, all
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: that type of stuff. So that's where can people go.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: What's the website for the official You can go on
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: blast dot com. Okay, yep, on Blast dot com find
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: all the products there, Sheeh buttons, t shirts, hitties, all that.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: There's a lot. And then the artists you were telling
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: us about who's on ego, when are we going to
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: get some solo music? Man? Well, I mean he produced
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: the Uh, he produced Go to War with Blasts and Snoop,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: and then he produced pop Out One of Them, One
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: US a bunch of stuff. So right now he's just
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: really getting this production back so heavy. It damna seemed
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: like he's taking that same type of path. But he
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: only twenty years old though. Oh yeah, it's like, you know,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: he's still working through growing pains and understanding, like I said,
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: music math, Like he making money doing all these productions,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: but I really hold him accountable to understand, like how
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: you need to distribute this, how much you're about to
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: have to pay through Texas. All the shit we talked
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: about today is like my constant conversations with him. The
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: last thing I thought it was, I mean, obviously double
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: XL has habitually left West Coast Ship off of their
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: list throughout the years. You know, they're obviously, I mean
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: it's as most media as he's But it was great
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: to see Blasts on the cover. YEA. Was that like
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: was that something that you guys just expected to happen
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: or yeah, I mean we knew head along even before
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: the little whole publicity stunt like oh go vote, we
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: already knew Blasers on the cover. Yeah. So I mean
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: even through all that type of stuff, I think that,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: like what you said earlier, like the music just spoke
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: for herself. Like when we did those interviews, it'd be
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: ridiculous for music. They was just like what the fuck?
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: Like where does this keep coming from? You know for sure?
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: And I also feel like, you know, we live in LA,
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: so we're in a very like biased consumer market for
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: the shit that we think should be on the Freshman cover. Absolutely,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: but I also have lived I've lived in Florida. When
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: why'd you drop my crazy life? And why g came
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: to Florida and sold like thirty tickets? Like it was
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: crazy because in my head, I'm from Phoenix, I'm a
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: West Coast dude, and I'm thinking this is the biggest
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: shit ever. And then I see with my own eyes,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: oh yeah, it's different. So I do think like as
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: much as like, yes, WLEXL has snubbed some West Coast artists,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: I also feel like nationwide they're maybe like like if
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: we think of like Roddy probably being the only other
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: LA artists like I would say the only right I
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: don't want to say that, but but but it's like
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: crossing over. But that's just like undeniably a superstar, you know,
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: Like there's artists that I've I thought should have been
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: what do we doing over there? Cook? Shut Jesus fucking
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: crist I thought there was like you know, I mean,
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: I would have loved to seen Mazzi on the cover.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: I would have loved this, by the way, that's the artist.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: I wanted to see him do a project with him
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: and Mazi Mazzi, I mean, him and Mazi got so
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: much music. Shout out to Mazzi, shout out to Devo
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: like them is like two of the two of the
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: early people. Is one of my favorite rappers in the world.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: To Mazzi is a good person, Like I know, he's
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: the best Dave. Dave's the best. That would be to
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: me outside of the Beano shit, there's so much music
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: between Blast and Mazzi. I would agree with that though,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: that that would be the most natural other thing if
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: they did a little four or five piece for the streets.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: I think they both bring some different They both got
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: like super significant voices and the fact that Mazzi can
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: like really rap rap when they did timing is perfect.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: When it sat in the corner for like three minutes
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: and road on a piece of paper and was like,
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: fuck this paper, let me go to the studio real
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: quick and laid the whole ship. And I was like, whoa,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: because I'm not used to people being able to record
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: as fast as Blast, So seeing that them going crazy, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: so you're not and shout out Todavo. I think that
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: would be the only I think, to me, when I
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: think of like a Like when I was talking earlier,
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: I was like, yo, Mazie to me, would be the
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: most natural. Like if Blast ever did another EP with somebody, Yeah,
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: Mazi one of my favorite rappers, So I can respect that,
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: that'd be crazy. Then they got so there's something about
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: their chemistry they never missed. Yeah, hey, I'm telling you
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: definitely probably gonna get some more music out of there
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: for sure for sure. And then just on the like
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: do you do it yourself? Agenda? Him and Rust doing
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: something would be crazy. I mean, I know they've they've
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: done they've done records. I know. Yeah, I'm just saying
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: in terms of, like, you know, that'd be kind of
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: crazy for them to do something. Yeah, I mean shit
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: bro Rest. Bro Rest brought us to his house all
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: type of shit and so his whole process, how you
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: really be creating all that type of stuff? And Blast
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: is definitely very intrigued. So what Mike does blast us
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: when he record himself at home? I definitely don't know that.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: You know what's crazy because I think when Blast was
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: I was talking to Blast and he was telling me,
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: like the interface he uses like and it's like the
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: most like go to Guitar Center, to guitars and spend
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: like six hundred dollars or something, and like you you
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: can have the setup. Blast cuts his ideas at home
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: on yeah, I got the Internet. He just takes me
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: in interfaces like he picked me up one of them.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: That's crazy. There it is, Man, I appreciate you pulling
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: up bro There it is. May go follow him Victor
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Ruler uh new ship coming into New Year from from
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: the Eagle Team Boom
