- 0:00Speaker 1: But I got then I got a phone call when
- 0:02I got home yesterday from Brian Nicholson. Brian is the
- 0:07guy who several years ago did that I am Ogden
- 0:11book and which I've got. I'm the only person in
- 0:15the book with two pictures and it's just it's black
- 0:19and it's a really nice book.
- 0:20Speaker 2: It's like a coffee table.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Yeah, black and white photographs of people who he felt
- 0:26represented Ogden. And I believe there's one of me in there.
- 0:30I'm holding a radio and I'm wearing an eye am
- 0:34Ogden is awesome T shirt and yeah, so I'm I'm
- 0:39in the book.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Prob.
- 0:40Speaker 1: So he calls me yesterday and he says, you know
- 0:42they had this time capsule at Union Station. I said, well,
- 0:45he said, yeah, one hundred years ago they sealed up
- 0:48this cornerstone. It was a time capsule. They said for
- 0:51one hundred years, leave it for one hundred years, and
- 0:54then opened it up. And they've opened it up, so
- 0:57it was back in nineteen twenty four. I think would
- 1:00they find well, uh, I think it's kind of disappointing.
- 1:05But what they're what they're doing is they're now doing
- 1:08a new time capsule and putting things in it, and
- 1:10they're going to seal it up for another one hundred years.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Some of the art.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Here are some of the exciting artifacts they found in
- 1:16the time capsule. A copy of the building permit for
- 1:19the Union Station. Huh. Some newspapers of course, Ogden Standards,
- 1:24Saltly Tribune, Deserat News, the Salt Lake Telegram, some photos
- 1:30of the Union Station. A letter from Union Pacific Railroad
- 1:34outlining the design of the station. A book of Ogden
- 1:38City laws and regulations.
- 1:40Speaker 3: How about a curse? Is there anything with a curse?
- 1:44Speaker 1: By the way, when they opened it up, a frog
- 1:45did pop out and start singing, Hello, Hello, my ragtime gal.
- 1:51But a Monroe and then a copy of the Monroad.
- 1:55Oh no, as a Monroe Doctrine, Centennial half dollar coin
- 1:59as among the things that.
- 2:01Speaker 2: We're in there.
- 2:01Speaker 3: I want to curse.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So Brian, they asked him if he would put some
- 2:06his book in there. Well, it's too big. It's too big,
- 2:08it is. But he's made a small version of it,
- 2:11a pamphlet with with a like some binding. It's bound ups.
- 2:16I haven't seen it yet, but he said, and you're
- 2:19the first thing on it. That's what they will see
- 2:22in a hundred. You're on the cover, aren't you.
- 2:26Speaker 3: You're in the You're the first I'm the first photo.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Okay, that's it.
- 2:30Speaker 1: And I'm on the paper. I'm actually in the book
- 2:33three times because I'm on the paper cover, the slip cover.
- 2:37There's a whole bunch of little photos and I'm in
- 2:39one of those.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Well you're more Ogden than anybody, so that makes it.
- 2:43Speaker 1: But he said, Brian said, I can't be there to
- 2:46put it in the time capsule. Would you come up
- 2:49and do it?
- 2:49Speaker 2: Oh?
- 2:51Speaker 1: And and it's like they say they want you there,
- 2:54you know, and and you you'll you'll speak, you'll give
- 2:56a two and a half minute talk, you know how
- 2:59to do that, and and then they'll put it in
- 3:02the in the time capsule.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Well what an honor.
- 3:04Speaker 2: That's it is kind of cool?
- 3:06Speaker 3: Is this?
- 3:07Speaker 1: Uh Friday Friday? It's I have to be there at
- 3:11four forty five and I have to drive.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Look, Uh my wife said she would take me up.
- 3:18You know. I was all excited.
- 3:19Speaker 1: And then I hung up with Brian and I thought,
- 3:21wait a minute, I can't drive. I don't know I
- 3:24could take the train. Maybe, I but actually that you
- 3:28should take the train if I don't want to just Oh,
- 3:31it's too much time to say it would dump you
- 3:33right there close.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Yeah, uh, maybe I should. I'll look into that.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah, but at any rate, I thought that was kind
- 3:40of that's kind of a nice Yeah, that's a hundred
- 3:44and so I'll be in in that time. My picture
- 3:47will be there for one hundred years, and I just
- 3:50would like to be around when they open it to say,
- 3:53what the who's that?
- 3:54Speaker 3: Katie? When you're doing our best of for today, make
- 3:58sure you label this second segment one hundred years, because
- 4:02maybe in a hundred years, somehow this audio will find
- 4:07its way somewhere to be played. Then maybe we don't
- 4:10know how that will happen.
- 4:12Speaker 1: If you can give me a physical copy of it,
- 4:14a recording, I will put it. I will say, I'd
- 4:17like this to go.
- 4:17Speaker 2: In there as well.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Yeah, let's put it on cassette and cassette no, no,
- 4:23like a like a flash just.
- 4:25Speaker 2: A little flat three or a flash shrip.
- 4:28Speaker 3: And seriously, if we can figure out how to do that, I.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Think that would it's easy.
- 4:32Speaker 3: And and hello, what will the world look like one
- 4:36hundred years from now?
- 4:37Speaker 1: Well, people of the future, now here's what it will
- 4:40look like. Does anybody know how to play this thing?
- 4:43Speaker 4: People of the future. The reference of the frog singing
- 4:47in the box is a classic Looney Tune cartoon which
- 4:52you probably can't watch anymore. It was funny.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Now there's one other thing, and I here's what the
- 5:04mayor of Ogden said about this. Charlie Trentleman, by the way,
- 5:08UH historian and reporter, longtime reporter for the Standard Examiner,
- 5:14is part of all this putting this together. But I
- 5:17just like what Here's what the mayor of Ogden said
- 5:20about the whole thing. This is a moment of history
- 5:22to be proud of, and we have a long history
- 5:24in past to be proud of. We may not be perfect,
- 5:27but we are Ogden, and Ogden is exactly what we
- 5:31want to be. It's exactly where we want to be.
- 5:37Speaker 3: That's that's a states that's that's that's lead with.
- 5:41Speaker 1: We're not perfect, We're not that's that is that is
- 5:44Ogden in a nutshell.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Hey, we're as good as anybody else.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Ogden always has this sort of inferiority complex and I
- 5:54but I love Ogden. It's where I'm from, it's where
- 5:56I was born. We have a long history in paths
- 5:59to be proud of. We may not be perfect, but
- 6:01we are hogged.
- 6:02Speaker 4: And I'm gonna steal Andrews joke. People of the future.
- 6:06If you want to watch that cartoon, it will only
- 6:09cost you one million dollars. Hey, the Zoslov bought two
- 6:13thousand seeing in the future. A million dollars is like
- 6:17ten bucks.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's just nothing.
- 6:20Speaker 4: You see. The frog would come out and sing.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Hello, maham me hello.
- 6:26Speaker 4: He would only do it for the guy who opened
- 6:29the box, and everyone thought he was crazy.
- 6:32Speaker 1: And then whenever anybody else had he'd say, go sing
- 6:35and the frog aldgo really wouldn't sing?
- 6:38Speaker 4: Wouldn't sing? It's well worth your million dollars.
- 6:42Speaker 3: To m Brad says. We used to say, if Salt
- 6:45Lake is the heart of Utah, Oggeden is the liver.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Yes, yes, indeed that is true.
- 6:53Speaker 1: That frog, that frog thing, it's what we used to
- 6:56call a shaggy dog story.
