I'm excited today To bring my friend Adam James on the show if if you guys haven't followed on Adam James and Grace City Church and and what they've been doing out There's especially in the state of Washington if you're the state of Washington. You don't know they're doing Please check them out. They've got's been kind to their church, but they've also tried to Have an impact on the politics of what's going on in the state of Washington, which is so desperately needed from the Christian world in Washington. So Adam ran as legislative district 12 This year How did good running didn't didn't quite win, but it was his first time and he's also the executive pastor of Grace City Church And then he's also running a nonprofit called Liberty and Justice and we're gonna talk about all those things So Adam, thank you so much for coming across Paul to go in on with me. You'd love being here, man. Thanks for having me on Yeah, so it's just real quick. You got involved in politics finally finally you're like, you know COVID happens you finally get pushed in you're like I'm gonna run for legislative district Obviously, probably like most Christians. I would say in the last, you know Particularly six seven years COVID hits and you just like kind of wake up at some level to like oh my goodness We as Christians got to be more involved in the public square So COVID happens that I know your church was big at trying to resist all the tyranny going on But then you're like that wasn't good enough. You decided to run for legislator in Washington Just kind of um, you know, now it's over and and uh the You you lost the primaries, but still out of pretty good showing you the primaries But kind of give me the summary of why did you run for legislator and then how to go and that kind of thing Yeah, man. It's it's at the point where Honestly the apathy and the silence from Christians and from churches uh In places especially like Washington There's such a defeatist mindset and attitude and if we stay MIA if we stay a wall if we abdicate The high places and the high positions like that vacuum will gladly be filled filled by ongoing literally destructive Policies that are backed by godless principles That are backed by spiritual principalities that literally reap destruction on children families businesses You name it we are witnessing I believe unless the church wakes up and steps in and gets involved uses its voice And engages in the process as salt as light as god would have us to like we're witnessing the death of the state if Christians do not wake up and engage like The this state is heading off a cliff along with me. We're we're here the west coast I mean Oregon, California, but like we are incubating the worst of the worst ideas And getting the worst of the worst results and yet still we see this apathy and this defeatist mindset from believers and so It was just it reached that point where it's like you know what if I live here I call myself a Christian where the church here we I'll be slandered. I'll be smeared. I'll be mocked. I'll be lied about all those things, but I can't be silent So do you um Do you remember or do you know of Joseph back home? Oh, yeah, I remember yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Joseph friend Yeah, he was he is the executive director of the family policy in two different Washington for a time Yes, great organization know the founder well all that whole crew and then he went to Texas and then DC and he was involved in different stuff So yeah, I know Joseph. He's doing great work. He's he's in the DC actually. I think he's in North Carolina about works with the budget organization DC but um He told me when he's executive director of the Washington family policy institute out there um His big focus was kind of the iF5 corridor, which is the problem really in Washington And I'll never forget this like I repeat this regularly to my Christian friends He said if just 80% of Christians would get out and vote in Seattle alone There would be no socialists on the council and the city council And that you know because we often think that wow, that's just a liberal stronghold. That's impossible Right But he was just pointing out as like actually the problem is at like you said earlier apathetic Christians To the extent where it's like there's actually enough Christians in Seattle, which we view is like this impossible Liberal stronghold that if just enough Christians would love their neighbor get out and vote That there wouldn't be socialist running city counseling more in Seattle Yeah, and and I can't imagine that the same things not true for statewide elections in see in in Washington Born Idaho, so you know similar where in um in city um in Moscow, which is liberal town And so if that is true well, I love it. I mean do you think that's true if that's true? I mean the ramifications is Kind of devastating to us. Yeah. Yeah. No, there's more there's even more pressing data than that one of the things I ran on was like Washington state is not a lost cause And most people think oh, it doesn't my vote doesn't matter king counties gets to the wall get what they want The nothing we can do and my contention is this it's not that we have played the game and lost It's that we have never taken the field And and we have the data that shows that literally in just 10 of the legislative districts in state of Washington So there's 39 counties in Washington state. There's 49 legislative districts in 10 Of those legislative districts the margin of defeat and the most recent competitive election for the conservative candidate was less than 4% 3.81% was the margin of defeat in 10 legislative districts They're actually outside just or and surrounding Kind of the king county pierce counties in the homeless county the two the three largest counties in the state of Washington And so there's these legislative districts surrounding that where literally just 41,000 votes out of over a million Constituents in those 10 legislative districts is all that separates the current reality and in the legislative Legislature in the state of Washington which is 20 seats down in the house and 11 seats down in the Senate 41,000 votes is all that separates us from a majority in both Really wow less than 4% now when you think now well when you look at the number of Christians Who do not vote? Historically percentages that we know that bear out pure research and barn research and others that do these polls the absentee percentage of Christians from voting in those districts literally would more than make up the difference to flip the legislature You got to sit with that. I mean because we have statistically over a million self-identified Christians Did not vote in the last election and that's true Honestly in a lot of places the country, but in a place like like Washington. It's it's We're getting we're getting destroyed. It's brutal And so it's like honestly so I've said before that the church is responsible for the decline of America And then you put the numbers on it And it really is just like Christians Um the church Christians who are in communities who live in states it really is on us that our political decline is Um, it's just so connected to our lack of participation in voting Um, it's not you know the general spiritual statement the church is responsible for the decline of America Absolutely true, but the practical ramifications of that is like absolutely It's like on the shoulders of Christians that you guys have a liberal governor It's on the shoulder of Christians here in Idaho that we have a governor who's who shut down churches and during COVID I mean Brad little did that I sued our governor in 2020 Alongus of friends and he removed the church man to shut down mandate when we sued him You know, it's like we got these kind of apathetic Republicans all the way to these liberals really at the hands of of Christians Just being apathetic and not yeah, that's voting Yes, there's a lot we can unpack go you know wherever you want to take us. I mean the reality is from My experience in running for state legislature State Representative here in state of Washington It just highlighted even more the reality of the what I call the categories of problems that we're dealing with and I do think there are at least three large buckets or distinct categories And then there's layers inside of those and one is destructive democratic policies Just I mean the progressive agenda ideology that I really don't like it's wreaking havoc We know what it is. It's on paper. They're open about it The second though is is the condition of the identity and values of the Republican party Like there are real issues within the machinery of the establishment Republican especially in state like Washington There's there's a there's a lot there that needs to get cleaned up But the third is the church or Christians and and the reality is if we if that's why I think it's you know Let judgment begin in the house of God It's like we got look in the mirror. Yeah, the reality is We are responsible for who is or isn't In the legislature in Olympia And and really in any given state wherever there are Christians It's like we have a God-given responsibility privilege Roll to play in bringing better ideas to the table and advocating for truth and righteousness in the public square in the civic arena and if we don't do it Evil and evil policies that hurt real people Eat happily fill that void and and quickly advance and run rampant to this eight but I mean progressive ideology destructive Democrat policies What do you call it woke uniparty establishment compromise Republican issues. There's things within that But it's it's the Christians Um, we need to mobilize the church and wake up the church and if we did that it would take care of one and two You know it I can't help the big the big statement the church is responsible for the spiritual condition of America which means that the church is um is where Reformation revival actually needs to start yes, like It's like I asked um at our conference. I had a sit down conversation on stage with Pastor Wilson And I kind of asked him some or a question was like with you know what 60 70 million Christians here in the United States According to surveys With churches Everywhere I mean My my running joke is if a possible Paul was pre-mill when he left he and he came and if he came back when he died to go be the Lord And if he came back now he'd be post-mill now. I mean he just he just see all these Christians all these churches everywhere He'd be like wow the gospel's working on that's it a post-mill. That's what Paul would say Yeah But like We live in an age where it seems like there's more Christians than there ever has been And yet less Christian impact which points to like we need a awakening in the church. Yes Yeah, but we have a disciples of crisis in some ways right with regard to that and because honestly we have too many too many pastors Who are leading those churches and in those Christians who think that to engage you set forth the truth plainly to speak to the issues of the day or get involved in Culture wars or whatever they think that that is a distraction from The primary mission of the church rather than seeing it as an essential extension of what it actually means to honor the Lord And to love our neighbor and to and to be the pillar and butters of the truth the salt the light all the things that were The called as the people of God to to be and do in culture and so yeah There's there's a and we saw this right you like you said during COVID. There were two few pastors who took that bold stand clear stand and Discipled well their people into into what it looks like for the body of Christ to be engaged in the jurisdiction of government. Yeah, I mean there's like In during COVID as there's y'all's church and maybe like five or six other churches that I knew in Washington And that was it that was trying to Somewhere move over than others, but like they were all trying some level to resist the tyranny and worship and All that stuff and yes, it's it's amazing you guys also have I wonder what what is this add to it you guys have a kind of a minz ministry um And you guys have you know a minz conference every year. I you guys are very kind. Heading me up um to your um June June minz conference you guys had maybe five 10,000 people there Your minz conference in Washington. It seemed like mostly Washingtonians. I didn't meet some people from outside Washington that that came and everything um, but I guess like What is the connection to our minz ministry and what you saw politically in the apathy that you saw politically? Yeah, well, we need we need men to have moral clarity moral conviction and moral courage and lead the way honestly like like men leading their homes leading their wives their children their families and and then speaking up whether in Honestly in church in business or in politics and so like honestly go back I had to rewind even a year or two is post-COVID but pre-Charles assassination all that time random and Things are stirring and rising still in in Washington state here. We're like man Things have got to change and there have to be more of us who are seeing things this way and feeling this way and like where are the leaders? I've that's the question. Where are the generals? Where are the men? Right? Where are the men who are standing up speaking up showing up leading the charge willing to put their Their name on the line their business on the line. They're they're influential on the line willing to be you know there there they be accused of not being nice or or whatever other you know worry about conflict or being offensive and ruffling feathers and all this but like where are the leaders? Where are the generals and where what's the strategy? And and then you know when when when Charlie was killed, you know All the more it just ran it up like we have to We have to engage and we wanted to change the heart of Washington from the heart of Washington We wanted to plant that flag again and call for men to to lead the way Right, I mean a minute protectors providers leaders lovers. We have that term to stronger man nation Pastor Josh McPherson and you guys have had on the show before I've been living down here as a way leading the charge with stronger man nation and I've been a part of that from the launch and yeah, we gathered about 5,000 just under 5,000 men at the gorge To try to like Sound the alarm of raising up what it means to be a statesman right that godly men Christian men whether in the spheres of church business or politics so private public non-profit spaces all that like men need to lead the way and Holding the line standing for truth. We got to bring truth back to the public square Because if not honestly like there are real consequences There are real Consequences for an evil advances when good men when godly men's regimen do nothing You know the spiral of silence and in on we go we can't abdicate for me. It really became clear I think this is true everywhere Of the church finding its voice being involved in one of the signs of judgment on the people of god C. Nizia is truth is stumbled in the streets. It's nowhere to be found Right and when we go silent You know we we abdicate we leave the hill the high places barren and Idols are set up in its place with demonic ideologies and principalities that so it's you look at whether it's economics elections education ethics or or enforcement Those were like my fiveies and my campaign the reality is like these are the issues that we face in in real life But when you stop and think about it, they're all Spiritual and moral at the foundation. We say oh, we don't do politics. Are you kidding me? Like the poli polis city politics politica the affairs of the city Jeremiah Jeremiah 297 seek the welfare of the city which have been sent I think it's like we have a duty before god to protect and to seek the well-being and the prosperity and the welfare like To allow for people to thrive and prosper and be fruitful and multiply and so much of our economic policies and taxation Are working against the thriving the family the thriving the be fruitful command for men to start businesses and and enjoy the fruit of their hands It's uh those are all spiritual issues at the core Yep, well, you know in the Greek word ecclesia actually originally had um political gathering um connotations Yes, and so the church or Christ and the apostles co-opted what was a yes known as a political Community or political gathering and co-opted that and applied it to the church Which which has been It's been you know, it's like one of the reasons why we started cross-politic back in 2016 was because like Like for decades We were taught not to apply our faith the politics or to keep our faith in politics separate or to you know If you ran for office try to be as neutral as possible in all these things. Yeah, and it's like um You probably know these numbers like when america was established and the constitution was ratified in 1789 Mm-hmm 8789 america was 99% Protestant like the one percent was probably like Catholics and like you know, uh, you know, it was We were a hundred percent Christian Um, maybe we were breathing air of the first grade awakening. You cannot disconnect the that's right You cannot disconnect the founding of the United States and America from the pre-George Woodfield Mm-hmm. That's right. That's right. Yeah, so um You are also working on this uh, nonprofit called Liberty and Justice and I don't know much about it. I I think I Um heard about it at your um Uh stronger stronger man conference in in june Yeah, um, but I mean, I don't I don't I'm just I don't know anything about it basically. Yeah, love to hear from the start Like what's going on? What are you guys doing? Why did you start it like like tell me the beginning? Yeah, so it's called for Liberty and Justice and um It was actually started by my friend nates chatsline out of down in texas in 2022. So uh charismatic church down there in uh, you know mercy culture church in fort worth texas and um and nate um Helped one of their elders who ran for the mayor of fort worth And lost But he didn't finish last he it was a spark something in their church It sparks something in the city a generated this conversation and this activity and something was ignited to the process He actually finished fourth and it but just went all in and and and came to the elders and said hey The elders were like we want you nate to start an organization to help mobilize the church Wake up the city and take a stand for liberty and justice And nates like what you want you want to pay me full time to lose elections Like no, we want you to mobilize the church Wake up the city and take a stand for liberty and justice and they ran for state representative in texas in one came like this in this you know crazy In tarant county most republican county in the nation. Yeah, and uh and one in 2022 they started for liberty I grew up in garland, texas Okay, yeah, I knew you had some texas roots. So you might like my dad was born in fort worth my grandpa's born in fort worth That's where our roots my family roots go back. Yeah, so that's where this launched in just in 2022 So we were just the fourth state to launch a chapter of for liberty justice We think again post Charlie Kirk's assassination Like I really believe that god is using nate. He's now by the way since he's been appointed a senior advisor to governor Abbott Okay, so he's he's been on the road You know thick and all the campaigning is stuck going on in texas He's literally a senior advisor to governor Abbott He helped pass all kinds of crazy legislation during his time in in The house there in texas they banned social transitioning They they I mean they all kinds of things that they advanced in legislation since 2022 Already they have had over 155 candidates win elections at all different levels local state and federal We were just the fourth state to launch and back march first Already now we're in 32 going on 33 states literally as the time I'm talking to you right now this weekend tomorrow We're holding a rally in Olympia in the rotunda prayer worship in the rotunda And then we've got some speakers coming on the steps of the state legislative building 10 days before the election to mobilize the church Rally Christians were going to the capital we're praying and I'm driving down to Oregon and helping launch the first chapter of Relivening justice in Oregon And so the there's a blueprint. I really think has an effective blueprint and really like boots on the ground grassroot strategy of helping Launch groups Build a coalition with partner organizations and partner churches It's got a strong Role of prayer and then what they call these nights of action where you gather spiritual leaders pastors elected officials candidates quarterly and it's kind of a rally to help mobilize the church and it's about calling people to become reformers and get involved and be active and help mobilize and activate the church and so they're in 32 33 states now our goal is to have a chapter launched At least one in all 39 counties of Washington state Literally two months after we launched it here in shalana doves county in the heart of the state we doubled the number of PCOs At the GOP locally so like getting Christians to get involved and engaged at the very Grass roots level because I was looking at when I was looking at again like Charlie and you know TPUSA Where's that gonna go? Don't know we'll see it's like we need some kind of strategy. We need some kind of vehicle Not just within the party machinery, but something that's distinctly Christian That's outside of it again where where they need us not we need them And then we can build it and even infiltrate to get more believers with kingdom values and righteous character To run for office and we come alongside the goal is to actually send godly meant into office At all different levels one of my goals even locally is that there should never be an election of any kind of any levels water districts Doer district you name it that doesn't have a Person of faith on the ballot that you know is a genuine true follower of Jesus with godly Character and values and and the impact that that would have over time because all politics is local of just believers being involved and being engaged local level city level state county state federal You name it that like that'll move the needle so we're seeking revival in the church To spill out into reformation in the culture Yep So it liberty For liberty of justice. Yeah, it's a non-profit or is a five-on-one C4? What is it? It's a it's a non-profit A five-on-one C3 right now. I mean, I'm sure it's you know, there's still conversations happening more will be becoming but it's a five-on-one C3 um They don't endorse candidates although they have what they call a friends and family list these are friends and family who share our values So we go right up to that line or whatever you know and this the reality is like hey These are people who share biblical values and we encourage people to vote according to a biblical worldview Yeah, you know, that was uh So cross-politic is a LLC Not a five-on-one C3 because we wanted we wanted to Not even have those lines. I understand the five-on-one C3 thing. I have no problem with it But that's that's what pushes away from five-on-one C3 That was because we're gonna be talking politics and it's like I I want you to vote for you know Adam Yeah, I just want to I want to clearly be able to say that you know Well, I mean, I mean as a church now, right? Like for me personally as pastor Adam James like I put out my recommended picks These are my personal recommendations pastor Adams picks here. They are you know, and so yeah If if they want to if Iris wants to come after us as the church wants to come after you know like the whole Johnson amendment stuff All the first one I mean, I mean honestly, that's where it's like that was the boldest encourage that we saw out of out of their church down there in Texas Where Nate's pastor came out on stage when they announced his candidacy with his shirt on I'm in the pulpit on stage and and like pastor Josh did that same thing they rallied behind me And I'll tell you no, I didn't win, but honestly we were unignorable and that was the goal We wanted to be unignorable. We wanted advanced truth. We want that for us. We define success is obedience not victory And so so if God is calling People into the public arena. We want to get behind that support that and honestly my candidacy It broke records in the state of Washington for a state rep the number of contributions and the amount raised within 24 hours I raised a quarter million bucks in 24 hours Wow, it's tricked incredible with strict campaign giving limits some of the strictest and in the country is the state of Washington I was the number one funded Uh legislative candidate house or senate republican or democrat in the entire state of Washington Through the primaries Yeah, wow that's amazing, you know So in Idaho I'm sure I would love to hear what you guys are dealing with in Idaho. We're dealing with prop one So not only do we have our elections Happening in November of a prop one is on on the ballot. So Idaho has some of the most restrictive abortion laws on the books nationwide I'm basically I think it's I think we have the heartbeat bill is what is past I think I think that's the most restrictive there might be um Anyways, I think that's what's on our books. We've had a number of things past. This is why I'm I'm not sure which is which now but um and so and then of course the Supreme Court removing the Roe v. Wade decision Idaho's um Laws are really pretty good. They're still you know, we still got some Uh, headway at the some some some movement there but We have proposition one on the ballot and what proposition one does is so in Idaho If you get enough signatures, you can turn a proposition and get it on the ballot and so Um, and so a bypasses you kind of legislative process and so proposition one basically is removing Our strict laws on abortion and basically reopening the door for abortion to be up to nine months Kind of thing and abortion doesn't even need to be um You don't need a doctor to do abortion. You don't need any medical um Kind of stuff. So it really is just like loosening it's basically everything. It's like a New York law almost And so 110,000 signatures Got this proposition one on a conservative state Yeah, uh in Idaho on November 1st 3rd third so vote no if anybody's listening vote no my pastor pastor Doug Just preached on recommend listen to him. He just preached on it last week And he said from the pulpit he said i'm binding your conscience as a Christian to get out and vote against this proposition It was really powerful and really good And he he made the argument too and i thought this was really helpful where it's like okay rovy weighed that past the 1973 Like Idaho has responsibility for it. It's bad Idaho basically capitulated they had um uh abortion was murder on the books in 73 and then they just ignored it when rovy weighed decision happened so they just ignored it um But this is even more egregious If Idaho passes abortion now at the hands of the voters So you had the supreme court thing distant decision that kind of stuff problem But then it now it really becomes much more responsible if Idaho passes this and so it really is important now But the thing that i dug Did from the pulpit was you know in any any he he also um Delineated um Communicated that okay, I'm you know, yeah some some politicians You know we should endorse and we should say you know this but um we really you know So i have no problem endorsing politicians he didn't uh from the pulpit But he really hit on is like this pro But this proposition wouldn't do i'm binding your conscience this christian to get out there vote against it You know everything and that was i think more pastors i mean i'm sure you guys got laws like that that need to happen now too Kind of yeah, I mean we've got three initiatives just go around state of washington Issues of the people that got massive numbers of signatures one is to stop the unconstitutional income tax They call it the millionaires tax but it's it's it's just yeah it's usually income tax and uh the other one is to protect Girl sports keeping biological males out of girls sports and spaces and the other the third is to Restore parental rights in terms of communication between parents and minors in the school system So so like from i mean and i was running on all these things right being unapologetic and Unignorable on these issues, but here's the thing about washington state man, we have we have led the charge in all the wrong ways for a long time man We are the first of the world you guys And and and when you talk about abortion most people are noticed in 1970 Before raviway it was passed federally Washington state was the first state to authorize legal on demand abortion by a vote of the people Wow a vote of the people in 1970 We have been the first of the worst For decades and and and us we we our past time For Christians to wake up and get engaged and get involved in Washington state I could go on with all the way here's nothing that's going on that in a lot of places You got to pay attention to stuff is that is the judge races Till the state of Washington If anybody's watching you know you got any Washington listeners There are five Washington state supreme court Justice position positions on the general ballot this November Five of the nine a majority of the supreme court of Washington state Positions are on the ballot and so there's a choice between You know ideology or impartiality and with these judges currently six of the nine Justices on the Washington state supreme court We're appointed by Democrat governors Six of the nine Now what that means is literally only three Current justices were put there on the bench by a vote of the people And we have an opportunity to remake the entire landscape of the Washington state supreme court If Christians would show up and vote in this election we could we could make massive progress in the judicial branch We could Pass those initiatives which again bypass the legislature and need to be prioritized and as direct initiative of the people that would that would Go against what the Democrat controlled legislature and Senate did in Olympia with regards to girl sports parental rights and the income tax. I mean we we have some of the the In the last ten years data Washington taxes have doubled just From 20 billion to 40 billion in taxes taxes have doubled in the last decade in the state of Washington and during that decade we have lost conservative conservatives have lost 20 seats in the house oh So how could people get involved with I guess a for liberty and justice and what you're doing there Yeah, you can go to for liberty and justice. US or FLJ Washington.com I'm literally leading a rally tomorrow one to three p.m. in Olympia at the state capital Man if there's anybody watching this that's near Olympia or you'll come out and join But we got pastors coming from all over we've got you know pastor Josh McPherson speak and myself We've got the current CEO and director of family policy institute Brian Noble Other pastors that are coming and speaking on the steps of the capital and it's just about Christians going We're gonna literally be able to Lift our voices and sing and pray inside the rotunda at the state capital And and and and and Olympia's we have a beautiful State capital building. It's the largest free standing masonry dome in North America I mean yeah, it until like the the sound of just exalting the name of Jesus praying for those in high positions praying at the high places of our state where Principles are brought forth that enact policies that affect people's lives and we're praying that the fear of the Lord would come upon Those in positions of power and authority and reminding them that they are accountable to God and and all Earth is the Lord's in the fullness thereof All authority is ultimately under God's authority the nations are dropping the bucket. They should be warned They should kiss the sun Before it's too late and we are calling upon Christians To go either either Christians go and there's different ways that we need to go into the governmental civic political arena Either either the church goes or the state dies Yeah, that's right, man. Yeah, well, uh, that's Olympia tomorrow tomorrow 1 p.m. To 3 p.m. The first hour we're in the rotunda the second hour we're on the steps There could be speeches route and we're wanting to mobilize the church We're wanting to engage and be acted as 10 days tomorrow be 10 days before the general election And we're just trying to do our part to beat the drum make some noise rally Christians To be engaged be involved to vote and and um, man make our voice Yeah, normally I release the show on my neighbor. We're gonna release it today So this can go out so we can make where we can try to see what we can do to help rally and all that stuff So um, I just my producer just stood up and like what what yeah, we need to release the show today So um Thank you Adam for coming on cross-paltic 101 really appreciate it For liberty and justice.
