Transcript
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Hey folks, welcome to Planet Geo.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Hey, uh, before we get into today's episode, I want to take a couple quick minutes and tell you something that I've been working on in the background that we're really proud of and excited to announce.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: And frankly, it's what's been taking up a lot of our time at Planet Geo.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: So you've probably seen less episodes in the feed and wondered what's going on, and uh this is certainly part of it, if not all of it.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: So our company uh behind the Camp Geo Mobile app has partnered with the Geological Society of America to produce audiobook versions of the roadside geology of Colorado and of Colorado Rocks.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: We've planned these around the Geological Society of America Connects Conference in Denver, which I'm flying out to now and is in Colorado.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: GSA now owns the entire Mountain Press Geology Library, which includes the Roadside Geology Series and Colorado Rocks and the Rocks series.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: These are two of the first titles that we're bringing to audio and launching within the Camp GeoMobile app right now.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: So if you click on the first link in your show notes, that's the Camp GeoMobile app.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: You can now purchase access to the audiobook versions of the Roadside Geology of Colorado and Colorado Rocks.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: I'll be honest with you, this one's really personal for me.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: I grew up, geologically speaking, on this series.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: We were in the car, Chris and I driving to Colorado actually, reading the Roadside Geology of Colorado.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: We used it when we went up into New England.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Many of our rock collecting trips that we went on, a roadside geology book, uh, went on the journey with us.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: So they are really how I learned to read the landscape, and it gives me just a really great deal of pride.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Uh, I'm extremely happy to be able to bring these to the audiobook format.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Here's the rationale for this partnership.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Audiobooks are a massive and growing space.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: The US market hit$2.4 billion in 2025, and over 150 million Americans, around about 60% of adults, have listened to one.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: So people love audiobooks.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: I listen to them all the time, as much as I love podcasts.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: I listen to audiobooks just as much.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: And there was really never a great way to bring any types of visual books.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: So things that have a lot of visuals in them, which the roadside geology and the Colorado Rocks and any really geology-focused book does.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: So there was never a really good way to deliver that content.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: You strip out the maps and the outcrop photos of a geology book, and it just doesn't do it for you, right?
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: That's exactly the problem that we built Camp Geo to solve.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: And our patented approach syncs the narration of the images on your phone.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: So it's available now.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Go to the first link in your show notes, download Camp Geo mobile app, and give it a try.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Check it out.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: We think you're gonna love it.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: We're excited to potentially do more of these.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: And uh, in order to do more of these, we need to have a signal that this is useful to people.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: So this is a bit of an experiment, and we're excited to see how people like it and uh and give us some feedback.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: So the audiobook version of the roadside geology of Colorado and Colorado Rocks brought to you in partnership with the Geological Side of America now on the Camp Jewel mobile app.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Check it out.
