- 0:09Let's explore the power of showing up with intention and
- 0:12energy each day. This is for those who seek to
- 0:15make life truly meaningful. Get ready for impact.
- 0:21Hey team, thanks for being here. Hope you're having an awesome
- 0:24week. Today in this episode, I want to
- 0:26ask the question and discuss what keeps you from being your
- 0:30best, your best self, the best version of you?
- 0:32What keeps people from rising up and being able to achieve that
- 0:35best self. You know, we're all kind of
- 0:38striving as humans to become better versions of ourselves,
- 0:42whether it's in our career or relationships or athletics or
- 0:46creative endeavors, whatever it might be.
- 0:48It's sort of just a way of being for humans.
- 0:51We often are striving to become better.
- 0:54It's this idea of having a growth mindset.
- 0:57It's wanting to pursue excellence in different ways.
- 1:02And I love this conversation because I've had the privilege
- 1:05of being able to talk to a lot of different people from all
- 1:08walks of life and see what separates the people who are
- 1:12really rising up and striving and achieving versus the people
- 1:17who are struggling and not really living up to their
- 1:20potential. When I think about all these
- 1:23different conversations, I find that in order for people to be
- 1:26able to make successful change or to pursue something and
- 1:30really achieve it, to rise up and to become a better version
- 1:34of self, I think it's important for them to 1st understand
- 1:38what's in the way, the roadblocks.
- 1:41And I think about this a lot. And so I came up with a list of
- 1:45seven things that have showed up the most in my conversations
- 1:50with people over the years, common things that keep people
- 1:54from being their best self. And I wanted to share these with
- 1:57you today in case any of them resonate and you might be able
- 2:00to identify a roadblock that's been in your way for a time.
- 2:04So the first one is lack of awareness.
- 2:07Lack of awareness is a big roadblock.
- 2:09Most people don't even realize that they're living below their
- 2:12potential. They don't even realize that
- 2:15they're not showing up as their best self, that they have more
- 2:18to give or more to live. So many individuals are in
- 2:22autopilot. They are reacting to the world
- 2:26instead of reflecting or being proactive.
- 2:29We've talked about that many times.
- 2:31There's not a lot of radical ownership happening in the
- 2:33world. And because of that, there is a
- 2:36lack of awareness. And without awareness, there's
- 2:39no opportunity to course correct.
- 2:42You can't change what you're not aware of.
- 2:44You can't change what you don't know.
- 2:47And this is the first one for a reason.
- 2:49I think if we were to start anywhere, it would be to start
- 2:53with our own self-awareness so that we could become better
- 2:56leaders, better communicators, better spouses, better family
- 3:00members, friends, and with a little more self knowledge, we
- 3:04could find the solutions that we're looking for to help us get
- 3:07to where we want to go in life. The second one is fear, and this
- 3:12could be fear of failure. It could be fear of success,
- 3:15honestly, sometimes. But fear is a huge thing that
- 3:20keeps us from being our best. Fear keeps people playing small.
- 3:26It could be fear of not measuring up, maybe fear of
- 3:29disappointing other people, of being judged sometimes,
- 3:32ironically. It's fear of succeeding and not
- 3:35not being able to keep it up, not being able to sustain it,
- 3:38maybe not be able to sustain the wealth that we've created.
- 3:42It's this question that we ask ourselves, what if I give
- 3:44everything I've got and it still doesn't work?
- 3:48So that fear is a very powerful motivator and it shows up in so
- 3:51many different ways, in so many different disguises.
- 3:55The third thing that keeps us from being our best is somewhat
- 3:59related to fear, but it's all narratives and limiting beliefs.
- 4:03And the reason it's related to fear is because fear is often
- 4:06the root emotion behind old stories and limiting beliefs.
- 4:11I call them saboteurs, but you might call them the inner
- 4:13critic. The inner critic is so loud and
- 4:17stories from our childhood, maybe past failures, past
- 4:21relationships, being in comparison with other people, it
- 4:24can convince us that we are not enough, that we're not worthy,
- 4:29that we're not, we don't belong, that we're not smart enough or
- 4:32fit enough or disciplined enough.
- 4:34And beliefs, the stories that we have, the beliefs that we carry,
- 4:38they shape our behavior. If someone believes they're not
- 4:41worthy, they'll act accordingly, even if those beliefs are
- 4:45subconscious. The 4th 1 is low energy and poor
- 4:49health. And this one is so incredibly
- 4:52important because our biological energy really does determine how
- 4:55we can show up in the world. When your body's depleted, it's
- 4:58almost impossible to be your best self.
- 5:01And poor sleep, nutrition, chronic stress, inflammation,
- 5:04all of those things will erode our energy, our physical energy,
- 5:10our mental emotional energy, they all chip away at our
- 5:14ability to have that 10 out of 10 energy like we all strive
- 5:17for. It's hard to think about
- 5:20becoming our best self. It's hard to think about self
- 5:24actualization when you're just trying to get through your day
- 5:27and survive. So low energy and poor health is
- 5:29number 4 #5 is lack of clarity. People don't know what their
- 5:36best self actually looks like. Most of the time, it's because
- 5:39they haven't defined what they want.
- 5:41They haven't defined what matters most to them or who they
- 5:44want to be. And so without a target, there's
- 5:46really no direction. They don't know where they're
- 5:48going or what they're shooting for.
- 5:50Clarity is power. Clarity is so helpful to
- 5:55understanding who am I at my very best?
- 5:59Without that clarity, people just kind of drift and they end
- 6:02up being that person who's tossed in the waves of life,
- 6:05constantly reacting to the next wave.
- 6:09The 6th 1 is our environment, and I'm talking about the people
- 6:13in the spaces around us. People in spaces shape us.
- 6:17If someone is surrounded by negativity or chaos or constant
- 6:21stress, or people who don't value growth or the things that
- 6:26they value, it's really hard to rise above that.
- 6:30You don't need a perfect environment, but you do need an
- 6:33intentional 1. You always hear the saying
- 6:35you're the average of the five people you spend the most time
- 6:38with, and this is a similar sentiment.
- 6:41The people in the spaces around you will shape you.
- 6:44And so we have to think about who are the voices that we're
- 6:47hearing most of the time? What is the music and the
- 6:50podcasts and books that I'm listening to or reading?
- 6:53What is the news and the social media that I'm consuming, and
- 6:57what is the energy of the space that I'm living in?
- 7:00For the most part, my home, my work environment, where I'm
- 7:03spending most of my time. All of that stuff matters.
- 7:06Your environment influences you. And finally, the seventh thing
- 7:12that I believe really keeps people from becoming the best
- 7:14version of themselves is a lack of support or accountability.
- 7:19Because trying to grow alone is hard without people who
- 7:24encourage you or challenge you or reflect truth back to you
- 7:28like a mirror. It's really easy to miss things.
- 7:32It can be easy to stall out. It can be easy to settle.
- 7:35You've heard me talk about scaffolding before.
- 7:38The support system that holds us up as we're trying to build.
- 7:41Just like the scaffolding around a building, we have to have it.
- 7:45We have to have something that will hold us up during a storm
- 7:48or as we're trying to grow. Our transformation thrives when
- 7:52we have connection. And so it's really important to
- 7:54ask ourselves who can we surround ourself with that will
- 7:58support me and cheerlead me and encourage me, but also hold me
- 8:02accountable to the things that I say that I want in my life to
- 8:05hold me accountable to becoming a better version of myself.
- 8:09Those people are the gold in your life team.
- 8:12If you have them, hold onto them.
- 8:14If you don't feel like you have those people, seek them out
- 8:17because it is a huge part of becoming the best version of
- 8:20ourselves. So my challenge to you this week
- 8:23is to just think about these seven and identify is there any
- 8:26of these that really feel like they're missing in my life?
- 8:29If so, how can I start to lean into that a little bit and find
- 8:33a way to move that roadblock, find a way around it so that I
- 8:37can access the solutions and start to rise up into my
- 8:40potential? Because you've got it, baby.
- 8:42You've got a lot to offer the world.
- 8:45There is so much impact that you have the ability to have in this
- 8:49world. We just have to know what the
- 8:51roadblocks are so that we can move them out of the way.
- 8:53And this is a great start. So I hope this helps.
- 8:57I know that if you're listening to a podcast like this, you are
- 9:00one of those people who is striving to become a better
- 9:02version of yourself. So I thank you for that.
