- 0:00Speaker 1: Card, declined ran cirt. What does that mean? It's one
- 0:04Speaker 1: more thing.
- 0:05Speaker 2: See, I'm shy one more.
- 0:10Speaker 3: So.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I actually is so amused by this old couple at
- 0:15Speaker 1: the urgent carry yesterday. I took notes. O great, so
- 0:19Speaker 1: this will be a decent lead into it. This was
- 0:23Speaker 1: a montage of annoying things people do in public. Oh.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I see that there's a car behind me in this
- 0:29Speaker 1: parking lot. I'm just going to keep walking right in
- 0:31Speaker 1: the middle of the driving area.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Oops.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I'm in the dentist's waiting room and I'm getting a
- 0:36Speaker 1: phone call.
- 0:37Speaker 5: Better put this one on speaker phone.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Oh, it's my turn to order after spending over twenty
- 0:42Speaker 1: minutes in line. Gosh, I have no idea. I'd better
- 0:47Speaker 1: start the decision making process right now. Hey, kids, why
- 0:51Speaker 1: don't you run around and scream and climb all over
- 0:53Speaker 1: the chairs while I wrap up this forty five minute
- 0:55Speaker 1: phone call with your uncle Rich.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Okay, guys, let's group up for a photo right in
- 0:59Speaker 3: the middle of this walkway.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Excuse me, do you have any cold, stinky, meaty sandwiches
- 1:04Speaker 1: I can bring off my crowded flight. The waiting in
- 1:10Speaker 1: line for a long time to get up to the
- 1:12Speaker 1: register and then people start their decision making. It's always hilarious.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yeah, A beating, A beating, Yeah, because I don't know,
- 1:21Speaker 3: I think it's hilarious.
- 1:23Speaker 2: But a couple of times I've been sitting at airline
- 1:27Speaker 2: gates and that's pretty close quarters with somebody carrying on
- 1:32Speaker 2: a long, loud conversation on the speaker phone, and everybody
- 1:37Speaker 2: is just glaring at them and looking at each other
- 1:40Speaker 2: like somebody gonna say something or you just want to
- 1:42Speaker 2: slap her.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Well, it's not only annoying, it's just I think it's
- 1:46Speaker 1: so amazing to most of us. Who just would I
- 1:51Speaker 1: would be so uncomfortable having a conversation out loud in
- 1:54Speaker 1: front of other people. Yeah, I couldn't do it, even
- 1:57Speaker 1: if it's not about anything personal. It's just it's just
- 2:00Speaker 1: so personal by definition. Yeah, to be sharing this with
- 2:03Speaker 1: everyone is just weird. It makes me wonder what personality
- 2:07Speaker 1: traits I know. I know, as I've always said, I'd
- 2:09Speaker 1: love to know what all personality traits fit together like
- 2:13Speaker 1: that one with whatever their things.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Anyway, so yes, study them at the university level. Is
- 2:17Speaker 2: it obliviousness or ego mania?
- 2:21Speaker 3: What?
- 2:21Speaker 2: I don't know?
- 2:23Speaker 1: Anyway, I met urgent Carre yesterday and got lucky. Henry
- 2:28Speaker 1: had a physical problem and need to go to urgent care,
- 2:30Speaker 1: and luckily it wasn't very crowded. So we're sitting there
- 2:32Speaker 1: in a mostly empty room and I hear the door
- 2:36Speaker 1: open around the corner and some banging and I heard,
- 2:40Speaker 1: damn it, I hit my knee, and then a woman's voice, well,
- 2:45Speaker 1: watch out. Why do they make the doors so heavy?
- 2:48Speaker 1: So I could hear that around the corner. And then
- 2:51Speaker 1: they come through and it's two people in their one hundreds.
- 2:57Speaker 1: It's a guy pushing a woman in a wheelchair. And
- 2:59Speaker 1: I never do figure out if it's a was a
- 3:01Speaker 1: husband wife. I think it was a mother's son, but
- 3:05Speaker 1: they were both so old they were just you were
- 3:07Speaker 1: just in that category of ancient. But I think it
- 3:09Speaker 1: was a mother and son, and he was pushing her.
- 3:13Speaker 1: And they go slowly and loudly up to the desk, uh,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and everybody is watching them because they just never stopped talking,
- 3:20Speaker 1: and it was constantly really loud that they couldn't hear
- 3:24Speaker 1: each other. That was part of it, like you know
- 3:25Speaker 1: happens when you get really really loud. They couldn't hear
- 3:27Speaker 1: each other, so they had to talk really loud to
- 3:29Speaker 1: be able to hear each other. And they got up
- 3:30Speaker 1: there and they asked him questions and stuff like that,
- 3:33Speaker 1: and they went back to their seat with the clipboard,
- 3:35Speaker 1: and she's sitting there. He's he's texting on his phone.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Click click click click click click click click.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Oh had the clicks on.
- 3:43Speaker 1: He had the clicks on, but because he's deaf, I
- 3:44Speaker 1: think he probably doesn't know he has the clicks on.
- 3:46Speaker 5: But it click any click click click click. As he's texting,
- 3:51Speaker 5: and she's filling out the clipboard and like everything is
- 3:53Speaker 5: a question for her. They want to know if I
- 3:56Speaker 5: shouldn't he say, how do I know.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Her?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Every question like that, And then she finally gets a
- 4:02Speaker 1: clipboard filled out and she hands it to him.
- 4:05Speaker 5: What am I supposed to do with it? Well, I
- 4:07Speaker 5: don't know what am I supposed to do with it.
- 4:09Speaker 5: We'll take it up there when we go up there.
- 4:11Speaker 1: So they take it up there, and he pushes her
- 4:14Speaker 1: up to the desk and UH said, don't give it
- 4:19Speaker 1: to me. And they go up to the desk and
- 4:21Speaker 1: they're talking up there, but and he says, really loud,
- 4:25Speaker 1: do you want my copey? I know how worried you
- 4:28Speaker 1: people are about getting paid all the time.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Wow. See, I really like to gin up some animosity
- 4:36Speaker 2: before I see a medical profession.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I like to make I.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Want to make sure they know I don't like you, you
- 4:42Speaker 2: don't like me. All right, now, let's deal with my health.
- 4:44Speaker 1: And a nice young woman working there said, we are
- 4:47Speaker 1: worried about getting paid, but we'll let you know about
- 4:49Speaker 1: that in just a little bit. We have to type
- 4:50Speaker 1: this and everything, so you can go back and sit down.
- 4:52Speaker 1: They head back to sit down, and she said, say
- 4:55Speaker 1: you think it's infected.
- 4:58Speaker 4: God, that's when Henry and I actually we had our
- 5:01Speaker 4: heads down at that point, and we're trying not to
- 5:04Speaker 4: be obviously laughing because we're both our shoulders are shaking
- 5:07Speaker 4: because she screamed, so I think it's infected, and he said,
- 5:12Speaker 4: and she said, it's all.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Red and runny.
- 5:15Speaker 5: Oh, And he said, I know it's infected. That's why
- 5:18Speaker 5: we're here.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Well, that's, you know.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Simple truth there.
- 5:23Speaker 1: So then, and that's why I wanted to play the
- 5:25Speaker 1: thing from earlier about things annoying people do in public.
- 5:30Speaker 1: She says to him, what time does the Eastern buffet?
- 5:33Speaker 5: And do you think we're gonna get to Linda's on time, says,
- 5:37Speaker 5: I don't know caller, So she gets out her phone
- 5:40Speaker 5: and dials up Linda on the speaker phone.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Oh boy, and they have a long conversation, really loud, on.
- 5:46Speaker 5: What time's the buffet and Linda, I'm an urgent care.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it's all runny and red. I think it's infected.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Whatever it is, it ain't good and I don't want
- 5:57Speaker 2: to know.
- 5:58Speaker 5: Oh my god.
- 6:00Speaker 1: They have this loud conversation about that. Again, Just who
- 6:05Speaker 1: are you that wants to that doesn't hold it up
- 6:08Speaker 1: to your ear and tell that personality trait? To me,
- 6:12Speaker 1: I'm a very private guy, So it's just so weird to.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Me, right right. I know my wife is much more
- 6:20Speaker 2: willing to speak in tones that can be heard about
- 6:25Speaker 2: what's happening, whether in that moment or in our world.
- 6:29Speaker 2: In that kind of sharing is good way that I'm
- 6:34Speaker 2: the opposite. I don't even if I want to know
- 6:36Speaker 2: what time it is, I'm going to.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Ask you quietly exactly. And I always like these people
- 6:41Speaker 1: and they're having this conversation is really loud. Sometimes they are.
- 6:45Speaker 1: It's people that are completely aware that you're listening in,
- 6:47Speaker 1: and they kind of give you they've raised your eyebrows,
- 6:49Speaker 1: like how about that or whatever? Yeah, so you realize
- 6:52Speaker 1: that if your conversation is loud enough for me to
- 6:54Speaker 1: hear and participate in, I can't do anything else. You're
- 6:58Speaker 1: aware of that, right, nut jobs. Anyway, the end of it,
- 7:03Speaker 1: before we got called in, I really like they get
- 7:06Speaker 1: called up for the they get called up for the
- 7:08Speaker 1: kope and he's up there, and then all of a sudden,
- 7:11Speaker 1: I hear him yell. And this is when I went
- 7:13Speaker 1: laugh really loud, and Henry started having He said, I
- 7:17Speaker 1: wrote it down.
- 7:18Speaker 5: Card decline? What does that mean? Card incline declined? Reinsert?
- 7:25Speaker 5: What does that mean?
- 7:28Speaker 1: Means exactly what it said? Card? Oh, I wonder how
- 7:34Speaker 1: that whole thing ended. We got called in. I have
- 7:36Speaker 1: no idea how long it lasted. I hope she got
- 7:39Speaker 1: her red running infected something or other looked at, taken
- 7:43Speaker 1: care of. Can you imagine what life is like at
- 7:46Speaker 1: their home? Are there other people there that have to
- 7:49Speaker 1: like live this their entire lives?
- 7:51Speaker 3: Can you imagine them driving together the vaccine riving?
- 7:55Speaker 2: Oh? But the fact that that's some people's comfort zone
- 7:59Speaker 2: is what really amazes me. That if they lived a
- 8:04Speaker 2: more like my relationship with my wife reality where like
- 8:10Speaker 2: they're almost never ever voices raised. How freaked out they
- 8:15Speaker 2: would be by that?
- 8:15Speaker 1: Were they just loud or were they old and deaf?
- 8:19Speaker 1: They were old and deaf, okay, but my parents are
- 8:25Speaker 1: somewhat old and deaf. They don't yell everything. Yeah, they
- 8:30Speaker 1: have to ask to you know, repeat, you have to
- 8:32Speaker 1: repeat stuff sometimes or whatever. But I don't know, God,
- 8:36Speaker 1: I would, honest to God, would love to be able
- 8:38Speaker 1: to follow them around and see what is your life like?
- 8:40Speaker 1: What does your house look like? How do you support yourselves?
- 8:44Speaker 1: I mean they struggled with lots of stuff, and that
- 8:46Speaker 1: part of that's just age, I guess card decline ran sir,
- 8:52Speaker 1: But I mean is everything like that? Every trip to
- 8:55Speaker 1: the grocery store? And how do you how do you
- 8:57Speaker 1: have a driver's license, how do you pay your how
- 9:00Speaker 1: do you do anything? Yeah?
- 9:03Speaker 2: You know, I will My study is going to eliminate
- 9:06Speaker 2: the elderly factor. I just I want to know about,
- 9:08Speaker 2: like the prime of life person who has that loud
- 9:11Speaker 2: speaker conversation in public wherever you like the dentist offic example,
- 9:16Speaker 2: is I really I don't know what combination of obliviousness
- 9:21Speaker 2: or egomania it is. I really can't even guess.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I think it would be helpful to us to understand,
- 9:30Speaker 1: you know, our culture and our politics and everything like that,
- 9:33Speaker 1: to to more clearly nail that down. What is going
- 9:37Speaker 1: on with the I walk in the middle of the
- 9:40Speaker 1: parking garage cars wondering how to get around me. I
- 9:46Speaker 1: have loud speakerphone conversations, just all these different things that
- 9:50Speaker 1: kind of fit together. I think I bring smelly food
- 9:53Speaker 1: on a plane right right.
- 9:56Speaker 2: I wonder seriously if it is one of those psychological
- 10:01Speaker 2: blind spots that you can have if you're either I mean,
- 10:05Speaker 2: because autism is barely understood at this point, we're just
- 10:07Speaker 2: scratching the surface. But I know multiple people who are
- 10:12Speaker 2: almost certainly or definitely on the spectrum who have autistic
- 10:15Speaker 2: kids as well. And I wonder if, like the gal
- 10:17Speaker 2: I'm picturing with her loud GD conversation.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Right as all of us are like, what the hell
- 10:24Speaker 1: is she?
- 10:25Speaker 2: Like? Can't perceive how out of bounds that is? Is
- 10:30Speaker 2: it not like a personality flaw at all. It's just
- 10:33Speaker 2: a lack of awareness, a blind spot that I can't
- 10:36Speaker 2: imagine being, you know, as private as private can be.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Usually I don't know. If you know, please text us
- 10:46Speaker 2: or email us.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Yesteh, I's just all of the its bringing up all
- 10:50Speaker 3: of these things or making me think of moments where
- 10:52Speaker 3: I've just been like jumping out of my skin lately.
- 10:55Speaker 3: And the latest one I was at the doctor's office.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Way you know that that nasally noise when you're like
- 11:03Speaker 3: it's like the snort when they're like trying to This
- 11:05Speaker 3: is so gross, when you're like trying to suck snot
- 11:08Speaker 3: back up into your nose.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Oh boy, you know what I'm talking about. It's not
- 11:11Speaker 1: it's not like a simple but.
- 11:13Speaker 2: It's like that it's a little whistley.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 11:17Speaker 3: This woman was sitting our chairs were our chairs were
- 11:20Speaker 3: back to back, and boy, I don't know, she was
- 11:24Speaker 3: sitting there for maybe ten minutes in the waiting room.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I got up and moved I.
- 11:31Speaker 3: Couldn't. And every time she did it, Drew laughed because
- 11:34Speaker 3: Drew knew I was about to like, Oh, yeah, explode, Welcome.
- 11:38Speaker 1: To my misophoonia nightmare. Oh. I've sat in situations like
- 11:43Speaker 1: the before where I'm so close to explain. Oh you're fucking.
- 11:50Speaker 4: God.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Oh, I'm like sitting there and I looked at Dreman,
- 11:54Speaker 2: like my blood pressure is gonna be so frecking nied.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Or in this room you're like, oh, I thought I
- 11:58Speaker 1: was gonna lose it. But in there and you're like
- 12:01Speaker 1: two hundred over one hundred and seven? What happened the
- 12:06Speaker 1: snotty woman in the waiting room. But it's like it
- 12:11Speaker 1: was very loud and.
- 12:14Speaker 3: It was just repetitive, and it's like, had I done
- 12:17Speaker 3: that when I was a kid, my mom would have
- 12:18Speaker 3: knocked my head off.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Excuse me, excuse me. I will give you twenty dollars
- 12:23Speaker 2: right now to blow your nose.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Oh my god, I thought I was.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I'll hold the tissue like your little kid, just blow it.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Anything to get you to stop doing that, please.
- 12:34Speaker 5: God declined.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Reinsert. What does that?
- 12:39Speaker 2: Right? Goodness?
- 12:44Speaker 1: You know, if your conversation is loud enough for me
- 12:46Speaker 1: to hear, it's loud enough for me to participate in.
- 12:49Speaker 1: That's what you should have been the rule.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Oh wow, you know I've heard people who do that.
- 12:54Speaker 2: They join in. They did you ask her whether she
- 12:58Speaker 2: could do it?
- 12:58Speaker 5: Tuesday?
- 13:00Speaker 1: I don't think you should make Linda wait. I love that. Well,
- 13:07Speaker 1: I guess that's it. Linda's been cooking all day, What
- 13:13Speaker 1: the hell? What about her needs?
- 13:15Speaker 2: Who are you? Well, I'm part of the conversation. You
- 13:18Speaker 2: asked whole
