Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: And right now, Donna de Mayo, Australia correspondent, Good morning.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Donna, good morning.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Now the situation in Sydney. These guys sit down for lunch,
- 0:09Speaker 1: three people get shot in broad daylight.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Yes, Mars gunman shot three people at a Sydney kebub
- 0:16Speaker 2: shop and the word brazen has been used a lot
- 0:19Speaker 2: because yes, it was a daylight attack. It was the
- 0:21Speaker 2: middle of the afternoon in southwest Sydney. And one of
- 0:24Speaker 2: the three victims of this horrifying shooting in Auburn has
- 0:28Speaker 2: had two previous attempts on his life, according to police.
- 0:32Speaker 2: We've heard from the acting New South Wales Police Commissioner,
- 0:34Speaker 2: Peter Thurtle, and he says it's beyond comprehension that three
- 0:38Speaker 2: people could be gunned down in Sydney in daylight. Eight
- 0:41Speaker 2: shots were fired. Now the three people wounded, a twenty
- 0:44Speaker 2: six year old man, another yet to be identified, and
- 0:47Speaker 2: a fifty year old woman who is a shop employee.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Now all of them are in hospital. The twenty six
- 0:52Speaker 2: year old had reported to police on bail an hour earlier.
- 0:57Speaker 2: So the acting police Commissioner says it's outrageous that, as
- 1:01Speaker 2: he put it, these people have taken their fight to
- 1:04Speaker 2: the streets of Sydney. Now we know about a task
- 1:06Speaker 2: force that was set up about six or seven months ago,
- 1:10Speaker 2: and it's a task force for about one hundred and
- 1:13Speaker 2: fifty detectives and they're going to investigate this latest shooting.
- 1:16Speaker 2: But it was set up, as I mentioned, a few
- 1:19Speaker 2: months ago, after nine shootings between warring criminal gangs, and
- 1:26Speaker 2: as we heard from the acting Police Commissioner, as I said,
- 1:29Speaker 2: it's not what we expect in this city, all.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Right, And what about Trump and Albanese's was a meeting,
- 1:37Speaker 1: I should say in Canada, the G seven? What are
- 1:39Speaker 1: they going to talk about? What does Albanese want?
- 1:41Speaker 2: Any minute? Now, any minute? So I think it's going
- 1:44Speaker 2: to be tomorrow morning, very very very early our time.
- 1:49Speaker 2: And it is the first face to face meeting between
- 1:51Speaker 2: Albanzi and Donald Trump. Now they have had three, as
- 1:57Speaker 2: Albanese put it, constructive phone conversations in the past. These
- 2:02Speaker 2: phone chats have happened, but the PM says that there
- 2:05Speaker 2: are many issues the US president is dealing with at
- 2:07Speaker 2: the moment, but he does expect to have a constructive
- 2:11Speaker 2: engagement with Trump. Now we know that Albanezi has previously
- 2:16Speaker 2: said that Trump's tariff regime is an act of economic
- 2:19Speaker 2: self harm, so we can only imagine that. Of course,
- 2:22Speaker 2: the proposed tariffs on Ozzie Steele is they're going to
- 2:28Speaker 2: come up, and he hopes to revisit those and also
- 2:31Speaker 2: discuss the benefits of the orcust Agreement, saying that of
- 2:34Speaker 2: course he believes that all three nations, the US, Australia
- 2:38Speaker 2: and the UK all benefit from ORCUS, so he's hoping
- 2:42Speaker 2: to talk that up as well. So let's wait and
- 2:44Speaker 2: see how it all pans out between the Prime Minister
- 2:47Speaker 2: and Donald Trump.
- 2:49Speaker 1: All right, Donald, appreciate your time this morning. Done to Mayor,
