- 0:13Oh, as soon as I move my mic I get the disturbance.
- 0:17Jesus Christmas. What a start.
- 0:19It's a ghost. It's a ghost.
- 0:21It's a spooky ghost. Well, welcome back to the ABJ
- 0:25podcast. Tornado Tag, the only show where
- 0:28we seriously debate whether a guy shoots lightning from his
- 0:31hands, counts as a technical wrestling move.
- 0:34This episode may not be suitable for children, the fainted heart,
- 0:36or anyone who doesn't like black goo, fireballs, or undead
- 0:39Cowboys. Also, this is not safe for work,
- 0:42especially if your boss doesn't appreciate evil clowns,
- 0:45possessed puppets, or worm sacks.
- 0:47So yes, we are. We're we're back trying some new
- 0:51things out here for the podcast and going in different
- 0:54directions and trying to do different things.
- 0:56Tornado Tags is really going to stay a lot of the same, but the
- 1:00other stuff is starting to roll out and I'm really proud of it.
- 1:03Some of the stuff quality wise is not where I wanted to be with
- 1:05the new cameras and trying to figure things out and syncing
- 1:08things up and it's been a nightmare.
- 1:10But we're getting through it each side.
- 1:12Some episodes like that's going to sound terrible, but I do.
- 1:15I want to see the growth too but also real quick trigger warnings
- 1:19for this episode. Violence, supernatural
- 1:21possession, creepy imagery, Colts, worms, blood and no one
- 1:26was really uncomfortable and and and and live burial will
- 1:29possibly be brought up here today as.
- 1:31Well and and mummies. At least 2 mummies.
- 1:35At least two mummies. From the graveyard to the
- 1:38squared circle, Wrestling has always walked the line between
- 1:40athleticism and a horror movie theater.
- 1:43And when it comes to spooky gimmicks, no one quite does it
- 1:46like pro wrestling. Tonight, we're counting out.
- 1:48We're counting down the most iconic, terrifying and flat out
- 1:51ridiculous paranormal wrestlers of all time, from the legends
- 1:55that defined eras to curse characters that made us go.
- 1:58Who booked this? So BP, give us a little bit of a
- 2:03rundown of what you got prepared.
- 2:05And I have, I have my list. You have your list.
- 2:07What kind of bounce around? What do we expect for this
- 2:09episode? Trinaotech.
- 2:10Well, we, we got to play the hits.
- 2:12Of course we got you. You mentioned a lot of them.
- 2:14You got to play the hits. The I think in my opinion, in a
- 2:17lot of people's opinion, the most successful gimmick ever is
- 2:21a very supernatural gimmick. And most people will tell you
- 2:23the best gimmick wrestler ever was The Undertaker.
- 2:27Let's just say the name, right? Let's just start it there.
- 2:29Let's go. So yeah, let's start with The
- 2:33Undertaker. So it's an idea that's based on
- 2:38Michael Myers from Halloween. So a very a very popular
- 2:43character from horror cinema. Halloween, probably the best
- 2:46horror movie ever. I would say the original
- 2:48Halloween, in my opinion at least.
- 2:51I'm I'm a huge horror fan. Horror Halloween.
- 2:54I'm not number one. I'm not.
- 2:57It's just that the original Halloween is also a very good
- 2:59movie. It's on top of being a horror
- 3:02movie. It's just a very good movie.
- 3:03And so a lot of the early Undertaker, if you don't
- 3:06remember, it's been a long time now the Undertaker, the
- 3:10Undertaker character is almost 35 years old.
- 3:13The Undertaker character will be 35 next year, which it.
- 3:16Hasn't hit yet that it's is it hasn't been weird for you yet to
- 3:19see like Undertaker do podcasts and everything?
- 3:22Like that, no, not really. Just because it's it is weird
- 3:27that he jumped into it so much because he was very protective
- 3:31of his character. He was just, he was one of those
- 3:32guys like the Undertaker. Being the Undertaker has made me
- 3:36a lot of money. I'm going to take this very
- 3:38seriously. I'm going to not be as open as
- 3:42some of my contemporaries when it comes to peeling back the
- 3:46curtain. Even most famously the the the
- 3:49thing that kind of started all that was the movie Beyond the
- 3:51Map that came out about 25 years ago now.
- 3:55And the Undertaker is very famously not really in the
- 3:59movie. Steve Austin's Elena for a
- 4:01little bit, Bret Hart's only in it for a little bit.
- 4:04It centers, WWE wise are centers around Mick Foley.
- 4:08But the other Taker, I think is only in it because with his back
- 4:12turn, he's sitting in a little cubby like on the phone and
- 4:16that's it. Like and he's not speaking.
- 4:18And then that was because he went to the director and he's
- 4:20like, I'm not really into this. I'm not really wanting to be a
- 4:23part of this. Kind of like how certain people
- 4:26you could tell didn't show up in WWE.
- 4:27Unreal. Because, you know, not my thing,
- 4:30not my thing. So he had had a a fairly
- 4:35successful run as mean Mark Callus in WCW.
- 4:39He was a skyscraper. He was doing some single stuff.
- 4:43But the time came where he's ready to jump ship.
- 4:46And a lot of a lot of the genesis of the Undertaker is
- 4:51going to be at the feet of Bruce Pritchard, Brother Love, the
- 4:55Undertaker's original manager, in fact, and this is a little
- 4:58bit of a prelude, his, you know, his original name, right?
- 5:01I know this is a very commonly known thing.
- 5:03Mean Markalis no. No, no, as the undertaker, it
- 5:05wasn't just the undertaker. Does was it the dead man?
- 5:09It was Kane, the Undertaker. Oh, Kane, That's right.
- 5:11Yeah, yeah, Kane. The under.
- 5:12For the for for for like a week or two, he was called Kane the
- 5:15Undertaker and that was directly from Bruce because Kane is
- 5:19Bruce's son's name. So that was that.
- 5:22He was tightly into that. And then of course, the brother
- 5:25love thing doesn't last very long.
- 5:27He's paired up with Paul Bearer for the early run there.
- 5:31Paul Bearer very much looking to part.
- 5:32He goes some Percy Pringle who was bleached blonde and wore
- 5:36like very bright Bobby Heenan style suits with glitter and
- 5:39sequins and things like that to dyeing his hair jet black,
- 5:44wearing black space white, painting his face white.
- 5:47And the my favorite part about that, again, very common
- 5:49knowledge. He was an actual like mortician.
- 5:52He was out of the Air Force. Paul Bearer was an undertaker.
- 5:56You know what's How long did it take you to realize that his
- 5:59name meant actually Paul? Like a pall bearer.
- 6:04Not long, unfortunately, because The Undertaker debuted in 19,
- 6:08late 1990. And then this is a little
- 6:12morbid, but about three months after The Undertaker debuted, my
- 6:17father died and. They're like, oh, that's what
- 6:20this means. And they kept talking about
- 6:22pallbearers and like, oh, that's, that's a pallbearer.
- 6:25So yeah, it was pretty early on, even though I was only like 7.
- 6:28Pretty depressing way to find out about the gimmick.
- 6:30Yeah, horrible. Yikes.
- 6:36Pro wrestling helps us through our dark.
- 6:38Times. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:40So he is the original, the dead man, the benchmark, the legend.
- 6:43Some of his abilities range from resurrection to light control,
- 6:48teleportation and endless mind games.
- 6:52Also big moments for him. He he was kind of the guy who
- 6:55coined buried alive matches, hell in a cells casket matches.
- 6:59And Undertaker is pretty much known for his WrestleMania
- 7:02streak, which is a pretty big deal as.
- 7:03Well, Oh yeah, definitely. And I, I always like that he
- 7:07could like, shoot lightning and all that stuff, but he never did
- 7:09it in a match. Like, if I had that power, I
- 7:11would use it all the time. Yeah.
- 7:13Just like, oh, boom, lightning, you're done.
- 7:15And, and the only thing I can can think is it's like, it's
- 7:17like Final Fantasy or a JRPGA video game where the Undertaker
- 7:21doesn't have enough magic points to do the lightning a lot.
- 7:25He has to like after he does the lightning, he has to like stay
- 7:27in an in and then he can like have another or take some ether
- 7:31when he has. To walk so slow so he can focus
- 7:34his mind on the smoke and the and keeping the lights off so he
- 7:38can then turn them back on. Right.
- 7:41And a lot of that stuff came later.
- 7:44The first few years his big thing was, oh, he's impervious
- 7:46to pain, you can't hurt him. And then it got tied to the urn
- 7:50like pallbearer's urn was what gave him that power.
- 7:54Because then they did an angle in 1993 where Mr. Hughes stole
- 7:57the urn. They did that a few times, but
- 7:59the first one was Mr. Hughes. Mr. Hughes stole the urn and the
- 8:03undertaker was all of a sudden more mortal.
- 8:05He he could be beaten and then comma stole the urn and turned
- 8:09it into chains And and he would always get the he would always
- 8:13get the urn back. And then when he first came back
- 8:16after the the Undertaker versus Undertaker match, took that big
- 8:19sabbatical in 1994 and comes back against the fake
- 8:24Undertaker. And then they have this huge urn
- 8:26with a giant light in it that Pallbearer hated because it
- 8:28weighed like 50 lbs and it had to be he had to charge the
- 8:32battery all day. So he did not like that at all.
- 8:37Some some things for me, Taker used to scare the shit out of my
- 8:40friend Justin growing up. Like he was legit afraid of the
- 8:43Undertaker. He was someone I couldn't find a
- 8:45wrestling figure of like he would.
- 8:47I had to use other figures and pretend it was the Undertaker
- 8:50like a like a like a spooky Skeletor or whatever like, and
- 8:54that was my Undertaker because we didn't have one.
- 8:57I think I did have his Hasbro and then I he was, I think he
- 9:00was, it was toward the end of me collecting toys, but I think or
- 9:03action figures. But I I also had he was one of
- 9:06the few Jacks Pacific. He was like that first line of
- 9:08Jacks, Pacific. Yeah, I didn't get a tanker
- 9:10until Jacks, until the bigger figures, the bone crunchers and
- 9:13stuff. But man, I loved old Taker.
- 9:16I loved, well, the whole thing with Michael Myers or the
- 9:19biggest call to Michael Myers or Undertaker was the sit up when
- 9:22he would just be down and sit up.
- 9:24That's a Michael Myers thing. That's kind of was like the
- 9:27blueprint of what Taker used the most.
- 9:29But man, there is an old and I just seen a TikTok reel of it
- 9:32too. We're just talking about just
- 9:34the greatness of Bret Hart. I'll put him over, but he we're
- 9:39Bret's wrestling Taker and he's just beating him down and
- 9:42beating him down and beating him down.
- 9:43And he goes up to the second turnbuckle to do his elbow drop.
- 9:46And when he's up there, Taker sits up on him and he and and
- 9:49just on small new ones where Brett just goes like what mortal
- 9:54I have to do to keep the guy down.
- 9:55And it was just genius like, like that small little
- 9:59storytelling in the ring where just like man, I am, I am
- 10:02outclassing this guy. I'm beating him with
- 10:05technicality, I'm beating him with speed, I'm beating him with
- 10:07strength, but I just can't keep him down like.
- 10:12And just some some famous angles too, especially early on with
- 10:15The Ultimate Warrior. That was a scary one.
- 10:18And that was when he was like very new.
- 10:19It was like early, late 1991, early 1992 and Paul Bearer had
- 10:26the funeral parlor it, which was like it replaced for
- 10:29brother-in-law 'cause I think it was when Bruce Prichard got
- 10:31fired and he was out of the company for a little bit.
- 10:34And very famous angle where the warriors on the brother love
- 10:39show and gets attacked from behind by the undertaker and
- 10:42sealed in the casket and they lock it and they lock it.
- 10:45You can hear the, the, of the, of the oxygen being taken out
- 10:49and it's like he's trapped in the, and this is like kids
- 10:53wrestling and I'm like 8 years old.
- 10:54Like, what? What the hell is going on?
- 10:56They're going to kill The Ultimate Warrior.
- 10:58And then you, you open up the casket lid and you can see where
- 11:01the Ultimate Warrior's trying to claw his way.
- 11:03The claw, the cloth is all clawed.
- 11:05It was so good. It was so good.
- 11:08And then when they turned the babyface, they did a thing,
- 11:11almost like a spin of that, where Jake Roberts slams the
- 11:14casket and gonna take his hands and then locks it.
- 11:17And the Undertaker is still coming after him with that slow
- 11:19Michael Myers walk, just dragging the casket with him
- 11:21like he's going to beat Jake with it.
- 11:23Yeah, just some amazing. Stuff they did with him.
- 11:25I also really like the I may be a man of my own on this one, but
- 11:30I love the the the the the dark, the army of darkness or, or the
- 11:35ministry. Of Darkness.
- 11:36Ministry of Darkness. I they took characters I didn't
- 11:39give a shit about and just put some eyeliner on them and just
- 11:42did this whole cult thing. But like, yeah, that whole
- 11:46gimmick of the Taker with that big long goatee devil looking
- 11:51beard, like I like that era. Like I I genuinely, it got a
- 11:55little weird with the corporate ministry, but the ministry was
- 11:58was cool. That was like the era of stables
- 12:01in pro wrestling. Yeah, it got NWODA little bit.
- 12:03It got NWOD where it got too big for its own good when they
- 12:07merged that with a corporation. And that was like an audible, I
- 12:13guess, because they did that whole thing where Vincent
- 12:15Banton's babyface and they started talking about the higher
- 12:17power and it's like, it's me, Austin.
- 12:20It was me. All Allah just pop up in the
- 12:22chat as I was saying it. So originally the plan there,
- 12:27like everybody was at the time was like, oh, it should be Jake
- 12:29the snake, Jake the snake, Jake the snake.
- 12:30But Jake wasn't reliable enough. Apparently the plan was
- 12:34Christopher Daniels. They were interested in bringing
- 12:36Christopher Daniels because he was doing that Fallen Angel
- 12:37gimmick, and then Vince saw him and saw how short he was.
- 12:41He's like, he's not going to be The Undertaker's master.
- 12:44He can't be the The Undertaker's higher power.
- 12:47And I think he might have been signed by WCW right after that.
- 12:49Yeah, but one last fun fact I have here on my notes is room.
- 12:54I don't know how, maybe you can Fact Check me on this BP OK
- 12:57Taker has been killed and reborn at least nine times on.
- 13:01That makes sense. That makes sense.
- 13:03He's lost a bunch of buried alive matches.
- 13:05He had his casket set on fire. He rose to the heavens against
- 13:10Yokozuna after the casket match. I believe they said it was Marty
- 13:13Ginetti dressed as the Undertaker, just raised up to
- 13:15the to the rafters. Now that that sounds.
- 13:19That sounds pretty accurate, yeah.
- 13:21If you did number one, let me go with #2 I'll, I'll just say my
- 13:25guy, if you want to throw in a little synopsis of his career,
- 13:27I'll let you handle that. Sure.
- 13:29But if we talk about the Undertaker, we have to talk
- 13:32about his burn brother. The the horror, the half horror
- 13:36icon, half pyrotechnician. Kane's abilities were fire
- 13:40summoning, unstoppable rage, pure chaos and energy.
- 13:44Some big moments as his debut at Bad Blood 97, which I still
- 13:48think amazing. Awesome and just years of
- 13:53destruction under Kane. Kane's back story includes him
- 13:56burning his own parents but somehow becoming the mayor later
- 14:00on in real life. Actually, the undertaker set
- 14:02that fire. They they they reckoned it and
- 14:04said the undertaker was the one that set the fire.
- 14:06Yeah, well, let's talk a little bit of Kane.
- 14:09And his his actual, he's actually the undertaker's half
- 14:11brother because it turns out that Paul Bearer, who worked in
- 14:14the in the in the Family Funeral Home.
- 14:16Yeah, it was was going after Missus Undertaker.
- 14:20Oh yeah. So.
- 14:25Yeah, Kane. Suitable for children and work.
- 14:28Kane had Kane had a few gimmicks before this that were kind of
- 14:33preludes. He well, he was unabombed in
- 14:35Smoky Mountain, but that was really a a scary spooky gimmick.
- 14:38There's only one scary spooky gimmick in Smoky Mountain.
- 14:41We'll talk about him later, but he was the Christmas creature in
- 14:46in USWA in Memphis. He was Doomsday, which is very
- 14:50much in the the vein of the old Lord humongous or demolition
- 14:55type gimmicks. And that was all a lead up to
- 14:57being Cane. Now, was Isaac Gincom scary?
- 15:00I feel he was like a horror dentist.
- 15:03He, well, he was an evil dentist and I think it was just more
- 15:10like he was a dentist with bad teeth.
- 15:11It wasn't the most well, well thought out gimmick in the
- 15:14world. It really wasn't he.
- 15:16I kind of put him in a little bit of a spooky.
- 15:18If someone said Isaac Jenkins is a spooky character I I wouldn't
- 15:22argue it. I mean, there was a horror movie
- 15:23called The Dentist. It was Corbin Bernsen was in it.
- 15:28So, yeah, I mean, I, I, yeah. Because I think when they first
- 15:31brought him in, it was like he would take, he would take the
- 15:34light in the vignettes about pulling teeth or drilling people
- 15:36with no novocaine or things like that.
- 15:38But he never, he never really, he never really did it to
- 15:42anybody though, because he, well, he never really had an
- 15:44angle except besides, he was Jerry Lawler's heavy to go after
- 15:48Bret Hart. That was the only angle he ever
- 15:49really had. So they didn't really get a
- 15:52chance to delve into it. But but Kane for sure Kane is
- 15:56Kane is a little more psychotic than the Undertaker.
- 15:59He he beat one of my favorite Kane things is he goes over the
- 16:03whole the whole history of his when the him and and Daniel
- 16:07Bryan are in like sensitivity training or like what was it?
- 16:11I forgot what it was called. It was Doctor Shelby who has
- 16:13come back a few times. Scorpio sky is Leonard in there
- 16:16and he I think Kane beats up Leonard, but he goes through his
- 16:18whole history about how he's been married twice, divorced
- 16:22twice. He has an unhealthy obsession
- 16:26with Pete Rose. He he electrocuted the testicles
- 16:31of the son of the owner of the company and set the head
- 16:35announcer on fire and all those other crazy things that Cain
- 16:37did. But also a guy who has been
- 16:41heavily retconned because originally it's like, oh, he was
- 16:44in that house fire and he's a burned victim.
- 16:48So that's why all you could really see at first was his one
- 16:50arm because everything else was supposed to be burned.
- 16:53And and then it became later, like when he on masks, all the
- 16:56scars were psychological. But they it doesn't really hold
- 17:01up. And, and, and obviously
- 17:02continuity and wrestling don't really go together that
- 17:04strongly. But they did a thing in the
- 17:07Attitude Era where the corporation has cane and his
- 17:10back's to the camera, but they take his mask off and they sell
- 17:14that. Like Briscoe and Patterson are
- 17:16sickened by what? How bad his face looks.
- 17:18And so he I guess he was supposed to be scarred at one
- 17:21point. Then it just kind of whittled it
- 17:23down, whittled it down, whittled it down to Oh no, it was more of
- 17:25a psychological thing. Yeah, man, remember when Taker
- 17:30was under the cane mask? That that taught me when I was a
- 17:32kid, You remember. They had a A lot of people
- 17:35remember Undertaker versus Undertaker.
- 17:36Fewer people remember Kane versus Kane.
- 17:38It was around the time See No Evil came out and they kept
- 17:43having this whole thing about May 19th because that was the
- 17:46day the that was the release date for the movie.
- 17:48But Kane would like flip out if people said May 19th.
- 17:51In fact, they made a they did a thing once where Shawn Michaels
- 17:54like superkick Rob Conway. He goes to the wrong Rob Conway
- 17:58and he puts a shirt on Rob Conway that just says May 19th
- 18:01written all over. And then Kane comes out, just
- 18:03beats the hell out of him. But when Raw was on like around
- 18:06that same time, they had another Cane come out.
- 18:09And I think they said the story was supposed to be like this was
- 18:12the real Cane. And the guy who's been Cane the
- 18:15whole time was like some imposter, some psychopath
- 18:17imposter who had been like just pretending to be Cane.
- 18:22But then that that cane was Doc Allos.
- 18:25Yeah, but it didn't last very long.
- 18:27Yeah, yeah, OK. I, I like Kane.
- 18:29I like the original Kane. And then like that original,
- 18:32like leather mask. And then when they kind of half
- 18:35cut it, I was like, I'm kind of, I didn't really like that too
- 18:38much. But like you said, a lot of
- 18:40stuff had to change with Kane, like the voice box, like it
- 18:42just, it just became unpractical and it probably became too much
- 18:45to just travel around and carry. But no, I, I like the way they
- 18:48developed Kane. And if you want to go with the
- 18:51next, pick one of yours. So I'm going to go a little
- 18:56obscure. I'm not like ranking these or
- 18:58anything like that, but I want. To talk about this is definitely
- 18:59not ranking. I want to talk about some
- 19:01obscure ones and I kind of this is a 2 for one special.
- 19:04I promised mummies and you're getting mummies.
- 19:07So the the first Mummy we're going to get was actually from a
- 19:13promotion run by Jim Cornette of all people.
- 19:16Yes, Jim Cornette's promotion had a wrestling mummy, the
- 19:19person who hates all the goofy stuff and wrestling, but it
- 19:22wasn't his idea. So Smoky Mountain Wrestling, Jim
- 19:27Cornette, one of his main investors was the famous record
- 19:30producer Rick Rubin, who I believe started Def Jam.
- 19:33And then he had like American recordings and things like that.
- 19:35I think he worked like the Beastie Boys, a lot of other
- 19:37people. And the only thing Rick Rubin
- 19:39really asked for was we need a mummy.
- 19:42I want a wrestling mummy. So that that is how we get
- 19:46Prince Karis. Prince Karis, Who is why?
- 19:50Can't we do that on the independent scene?
- 19:51Just like you know what PPW needs?
- 19:54A mummy. A mummy Who would be our Who
- 19:56would be the PPW mummy? APPW mummy.
- 20:00Well, it's got to be a like usually somebody that's like a
- 20:02little taller. I have my answer just because a
- 20:07he can't get any worse and B you cover his face as a win for.
- 20:11Everybody. And who's that?
- 20:13Logie. Pi knew you were going to.
- 20:15Say that let's make Logie PA mummy.
- 20:17A mummy A. Mummy.
- 20:19I'll take it under advisement. I'll.
- 20:20Take it. What else?
- 20:21What else is he really doing? You know what I mean?
- 20:23He's a stooge. Just make him a mum.
- 20:25He's betraying his friends is what he's doing reluctantly, but
- 20:28he's betraying his friends very reluctantly, very reluctantly.
- 20:33So Daryl Van Horn is is is Prince Karis's manager, who is
- 20:39James Mitchell. He winds up going to WCW where
- 20:43he manages Mortis, who was another not as in depth spooky
- 20:48character. And it became part of that whole
- 20:49blood runs cold thing. And he managed Wrath and a few
- 20:52other people. And then he goes to ECW where
- 20:54he's the sinister minister and people just much like Kevin
- 20:58Sullivan. People at that point just
- 20:59started calling, calling him the devil where he would just wear
- 21:02red suits. And he was Father James Mitchell
- 21:04for a long time in TNA with the the the new church.
- 21:06Stable coke on TV. Yes, he did.
- 21:09And that was in that was in the the N.W.A.
- 21:12But and and a lot of his affectation, and I'm sure he
- 21:15would be the first to admit this was very much the Grand Wizard
- 21:20of legendary manager of the Grand Wizard.
- 21:22Where he would talk like this? You can even hear a little bit
- 21:27of that in Paul Heyman. Paul Heyman takes a little bit
- 21:31from the grand wizard now. So especially with that that
- 21:34very beginning. Ladies and gentlemen, my name is
- 21:37that's that's very Ernie Roth. That's very Ernie Roth.
- 21:40So so Daryl Van Horn talks about how he went to he went to Egypt
- 21:48where he studied. He said he studied things like
- 21:54Egyptology and also he throws a necrophilia in there, which hey,
- 21:59Kane, Katie Victoria, we talked. We didn't talk about the Katie
- 22:01Victoria storyline where Kane apparently had a high school
- 22:04sweetheart and Triple H accused him of after she died in a car
- 22:08crash. He had his way with her.
- 22:11So, but Prince Caris, he makes his, he does his incantation.
- 22:16It's on a scroll. And I guess the magic words if
- 22:19you want to summon a mummy is Weezat Keizont.
- 22:26Which is pig Latin so. No, it's it's more of a pig
- 22:33Latin. It's Kizarni who is another
- 22:36Kizarni. And it's a very short lived, but
- 22:38that was really a spooky character.
- 22:40It's just a carny, but that's kind of spooky.
- 22:42But they they made the whole thing like like, and this was
- 22:45Cornett's kind of push on it. This isn't really a mummy.
- 22:48This is a guy in a mummy suit. He's not a 5000 year old
- 22:51immortal mummy. Stop it.
- 22:53But they would do things where like he cut his thumb because he
- 22:56wore a full like mummy suit, like bandages and stuff.
- 22:59And he cut they cut his thumb and sand came out and they're
- 23:02like his thumb is like they were just trying to like Pooh Pooh it
- 23:06all over, like Les Thatcher and Dutchman telling whoever the the
- 23:09announcers were. But then a few years later, you
- 23:12get a more famous mummy, in the immortal words of Tony Shivani
- 23:17the Yete. Oh, I thought you was in the
- 23:19rock when the when the rock. No, that was he.
- 23:22He was the Scorpion King. He wasn't the mummy.
- 23:24That's I mean, he was just he was in the mummy would a cooler
- 23:26title. He was in the Mummy movie, but
- 23:28he was, he was a scorpion king. I think he was an ancient enemy
- 23:32of the mummy. So now I'm talking about the
- 23:35Yete, which is a weird name for a mummy because a Yeti is like a
- 23:39Bigfoot. It's an abominable snowman.
- 23:40Yeah. Yeah.
- 23:41So this this happens on I think they on Nitro, they kept having
- 23:45a show like a block of ice with some kind of big thing in it and
- 23:49then eventually the block of ice exploded and then after a match
- 23:53with Hulk Hogan and the giant, the Yete comes out.
- 23:57The yete is huge. There were rumors that like the
- 23:59first couple of appearances it was elegante Giant Gonzalez, but
- 24:03I don't even know if that's true.
- 24:04And almost always it was Ron Reese who was part of Raven's
- 24:08flock as Reese. He was Ron stud.
- 24:10He was a very big guy, like a legit 7 footer and he came out
- 24:14and the best way to describe what he did to Hulk Hogan is he
- 24:19kind of humped Hulk Hogan from behind in the middle of the
- 24:24ring. That's what mummies do.
- 24:26They're. Helpers.
- 24:27And it's like a it's like a Chihuahua.
- 24:29They're the Chihuahua of scary things.
- 24:32So that was the original appearance of the Yeti.
- 24:35He had a few more, but then they repackaged him as a ninja.
- 24:38Logie, P. The Humping Mummy BP.
- 24:42He is, he does have Chihuahua energy.
- 24:44He definitely does. He has he has significant
- 24:47Chihuahua energy, so that. It works because he can't
- 24:50wrestle so, but I'm sure you can hump, you know what I mean?
- 24:53Very cruel that's that's two mummies for the price of one for
- 24:59everybody. Yeah, I'll, I'll go to the next
- 25:03one. I will.
- 25:05I'm not going to sit here and pretend.
- 25:06You pretend to you guys as an audience that this was my
- 25:08favorite of all time. I do appreciate the character.
- 25:11I do appreciate the costume. I do appreciate the pageantry.
- 25:15But unfortunately for me, that's kind of where it ends.
- 25:18The promos, the fan theory pissed me off, I'm not going to
- 25:21lie. But what it got to, the time to
- 25:23put on the match is when this character died for me and I'm
- 25:28going to go with a Duke 2 Fer. I'm going to go Bray Wyatt and
- 25:31the Fiend. I enjoyed Bray Wyatt as the cult
- 25:35leader more than I enjoyed him as the Fiend.
- 25:38Same here. I didn't really like the Fiend.
- 25:40I thought the Fiend looked cool. As a horror movie fan it was
- 25:43fucking cool looking. The aesthetic the the characters
- 25:46that the the promos were fun. Like all of that was great for
- 25:50the Fiend but when the Fiend had to wrestle it lost me.
- 25:55Bray Wyatt as the swamp cult leader loved it.
- 25:59I loved as, as Tom Lawler once called him, a fat, dirty wizard
- 26:03he was. A fat dirty wizard but the the
- 26:07modern horror icon of wrestling. Equal parts Stephen King and a
- 26:11southern cult leader. His abilities were reality
- 26:14manipulation, possession and mental warfare.
- 26:17His big moments for the Firefly Funhouse match Hated it with
- 26:21John Cena and then he also debuted The Fiend there.
- 26:27The masked was also designed by Tom Savini, which I think is
- 26:31super cool because I'm a big Tom Savini fan and he was the
- 26:34special effects legend behind Friday the 13th, Dusk Till Dawn,
- 26:39Dawn of the Dead. I mean, you name it, he's
- 26:42probably done the special effects I.
- 26:44Got to watch From Dusk till Dawn again.
- 26:45I like that movie. Great movie.
- 26:47She well, Lily was just talking about Salma Hayek and, and I
- 26:51was. Ageless, the ageless.
- 26:53You want to see a Salma Hayek scene?
- 26:56I'll show you Dusk till Dawn. You want to talk about booking
- 26:59yourself in a strong position? Nobody ever booked themselves in
- 27:02a strong position like Quentin Tarantino.
- 27:04Like he wrote that. He didn't direct that movie, but
- 27:06he wrote it. And Mr. Foot Guy?
- 27:09Yeah. Had Salma Hayek had was booked
- 27:14himself to drink off of Salma Hayek's foot?
- 27:16Yeah, yeah, 100%. Well, let's get to the Bray
- 27:19Wyatt. What do you got?
- 27:20What do you got for Bray? What do you What are your takes
- 27:22on him? Similar to yours and I, I want
- 27:24to be respectful here because I I, I do not believe in speaking
- 27:27I'll of the dead whatsoever and. As a human, I'm sure he was
- 27:31great. Oh yeah, the character.
- 27:33From Yeah, and you can never take away from Bray Wyatt's
- 27:35creativity or his imagination. I thought some of those Firefly
- 27:40Funhouse skits, like the the promos of vignettes were
- 27:44excellent, especially early on. But it was always the payoff.
- 27:49The payoff with him was always the problem because those
- 27:52characters are so hard. Those characters are so hard.
- 27:55And I've, I've said it a million times, like, oh, the the big
- 27:57scary looking person that doesn't lose and never really
- 28:01sells, always gets over. And the Fiend did.
- 28:03The Fiend got over huge, but it's really hard to land that
- 28:08plane because eventually they are going to have to sell and
- 28:11eventually they are going to have to lose.
- 28:12And back in the day when it was somebody like that, well, when
- 28:15they lost, they just left the territory and then it was on to
- 28:18the next one. But that doesn't really work.
- 28:23And that's actually what wound up happening with Bray Wyatt is
- 28:26eventually the character got a little stale.
- 28:28The character got a little long in the tooth.
- 28:32We kind of ran out of rope and there wasn't really a whole lot
- 28:35we can do so. And no only benefit at work in
- 28:37the character. Like no one really came out of
- 28:40the feud better than the one guy went in.
- 28:43One guy, LA Knight. LA Knight because he he, he
- 28:46became like a unfortunate. That was pretty Wide's final
- 28:50appearance, but LA Knight came out of it pretty good.
- 28:52Yeah, like the the The Hell in a Cell match.
- 28:56Oh, it was Seth Rollins, horrible.
- 28:57And and that's and that's what those characters are so hard to
- 29:01book because you can't really beat them.
- 29:05And then that that's like that hell in a soul match that Seth
- 29:09Rollins lost by disqualification and he loses the title a month
- 29:12later anyway. Just have him lose it there.
- 29:15It it's a it's a tough one. And then it was really, really
- 29:19hard in that, really, really hard to do anything outside of
- 29:22it because you always have to one up yourself.
- 29:24You always have to go higher, higher, higher.
- 29:26To the point where one of the last matches we see Bray Wyatt
- 29:28in that that Fiend run is a match where Randy Orton
- 29:33basically burns him to death after.
- 29:36Yeah, they took advantage of the pandemic and the Thunderdome and
- 29:38not having a live crowd there that they can just literally set
- 29:42a Bray Wyatt dummy on fire in the middle of the ring.
- 29:44Yeah. Yeah, and then I mean, the last
- 29:47match was cool where he was sponsored by Pitch Black
- 29:49Mountain Dew and he had. The Oh, the Orbeez, the.
- 29:51Paint he had the paint on where like when the black light hit
- 29:53him, he looked different. I thought that was kind of cool.
- 29:56What do you what how do you feel?
- 29:57What kind of group them in here with him?
- 30:00But you had Alexa Bliss with him for a while there where she was
- 30:04kind of like this possessed character alongside him.
- 30:07I'd like the muscle man skits when he would like kind of poked
- 30:10on a reality where he's like making fun of his own weight and
- 30:14he's the muscle man dance and stuff like that.
- 30:16I thought it was good. But then the wide 6, obviously,
- 30:20unfortunately we lose Bray and the entire time Bray's alive and
- 30:25we're like, man, if you're going to partner Bray up with someone,
- 30:28just put Bo out like we were as fans were like, give us Bo, put
- 30:32Bo with him and never, never. Never.
- 30:34I don't know how many fans have ever clamored for both Dallas's
- 30:36from being honest. Well, there was a while there
- 30:39towards the end where they knew Beau was growing his hair out.
- 30:41Yeah. But when the Uncle Hallody thing
- 30:43started happening with that last run of of Bray and and they
- 30:46probably would have gotten there if Bray's health hadn't
- 30:49unfortunately turned for the worst, they they probably were
- 30:51headed there the the Y at six. I do like that they toned down
- 30:55the supernatural stuff. Preface all this was saying I'm
- 30:58not a huge the biggest fan of all this because I think
- 31:01wrestling should have a through line and if your whole show is
- 31:05like Lucha Underground, I have a lot of respect for Lucha
- 31:07Underground, which had a lot of supernatural characters.
- 31:09You had a witch, you had a lot of stuff like that.
- 31:12But the whole show is like this is a world where anything can
- 31:15happen. And then you have WWE or AW or
- 31:20places like that where it's like, OK, everybody's normal
- 31:23except for this guy that can shoot lightning or this guy who
- 31:25can put John Cena in the Phantom Zone.
- 31:28Or like, what was the Firefly Funhouse match supposed to be?
- 31:32Were we seeing like a hallucination?
- 31:33Was it real? Like, no idea.
- 31:36Yeah. So stuff like that loses me a
- 31:39lot. And I, I and I, I, we haven't
- 31:43had enough podcast with you and me and some others where in the
- 31:47moment I'm like, yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of the spring
- 31:49wine and stuff. And I'm not going to.
- 31:51I'm not going to pretend like I am now because he has
- 31:53unfortunately passed. I lost it with the Wyatt 6.
- 31:56I do like seeing guys like Dexter Loomis and Gacy and Beau
- 32:00having and and Nikki Cross and you know, have a have a place to
- 32:05perform and do their thing. I love watching Gacy so anytime
- 32:09I can see Gacy perform, I'm in. See, if I want to watch Joe
- 32:12Gacy, I'm just going to go watch that the most illegal thing in
- 32:15the history of wrestling thing again.
- 32:16Yeah. Which is funny because like if
- 32:20if you're going to, if you're going to do it, just do it Well,
- 32:22like that. That was that was silly.
- 32:24And that wasn't even your car. There's like a CZW show.
- 32:27They did that. But it was, it was so
- 32:29entertaining that it's like, OK, well, it gets a pass.
- 32:33Yeah. All right.
- 32:34What's your next pick or next one you want to talk about?
- 32:37I'm going to go again with a little more obscure and I'm
- 32:39going to go with some some Memphis curiosities.
- 32:42So we were talking about a little a little bit about this
- 32:44before we went on the air with Memphis.
- 32:47You had half the year for a lot of times that Jerry Jarrett
- 32:51would book and you would have well thought out storylines and
- 32:55things built pretty logically. Personal issues, draw money.
- 32:59That was Jerry Jarrett's motto. It was on a plaque in his office
- 33:02and and it was very just good traditional wrestling booking.
- 33:06Memphis was always a little bit out there.
- 33:08They would they would do a little bit of crazy stuff.
- 33:10But then when Jerry Lawler would get the book for half the year.
- 33:15I want to, I want to, I want to spoiler alert real quick for
- 33:18you, BP and everyone who's listening.
- 33:21And in the future, if I ever get money and we can start our own
- 33:25wrestling company, this is exactly what we're going to do.
- 33:28You're going to book dead serious really good for half a
- 33:31year and then I'm growing it out the next half of the year.
- 33:38So you know, so this starts like the late 70s when Lawler starts
- 33:46to buy into the territory and you have Doctor Frank.
- 33:51Not, not our Doctor Frank, not Doctor Roma Scavage, not the
- 33:55legend this is. This is the not legendary Doctor
- 33:57Frank. So he might be a mummy.
- 34:00I don't know. He's been around a long time.
- 34:03I always call it, I always say unfrozen caveman Dr. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:08That, that's a, that's a reference to, there is an old
- 34:11SNL skit with Phil Hartman, unfrozen caveman lawyer.
- 34:14That's, that's, that's, that's the origin of that.
- 34:17But Doc, no, Doc, this Doctor Frank was literally a
- 34:20Frankenstein monster, bolts in the neck and everything.
- 34:23And this was a monster heel that challenged Jerry Lawler in the
- 34:26late 70s. And then you had a little bit
- 34:29later, you had Toggar, the Lord of the Volcano, who was like a
- 34:33dragon man was born in a volcano.
- 34:37And and I'm I'm probably missing some other ones and and one of
- 34:40his more later run characters. So this is more of a through
- 34:44line, not so much spooky, but I think they would do some weird
- 34:48stuff when they would turn him heel.
- 34:50You would have Spellbinder who was a local wrestler, Del Rios,
- 34:55not Del Rio. Spellbinder was a magician but
- 35:00he would sometimes would act like would have magical powers.
- 35:02He had a very brief run like maybe a month run, a few TV
- 35:07appearances in WWE or WWF at the time is Fantasio and his whole
- 35:12thing was like he would do a small package and like pull the
- 35:15underwear out from the the wrestlers under the wrestlers
- 35:17trunks and things like that. He already would do like his.
- 35:20Magic ability was taking your underwear off.
- 35:22Yeah, he could reach in your trunks and pull off your
- 35:25underwear. Guess what Nate heaters do
- 35:30gimmick is? I I I've talked to Nate many
- 35:33times about about Spellbinder and Fantasio.
- 35:37Nate could take people's underwear off is definitely
- 35:39getting booked. That's my half of the year right
- 35:41there. That's my version of Nate.
- 35:45So yeah, Memphis, Memphis had its had its share of a very
- 35:51wacky wrestling characters for sure.
- 35:53I love that I'm going to go with with 1 here and I'm going to
- 35:58kind of probably take a three for here around.
- 36:03I mean there's this this trend comes and goes some and when it
- 36:06comes it, it comes hot and it comes hard.
- 36:11Another reason why we're not suitable for work.
- 36:13But when vampires get popular BP, they get real popular.
- 36:18You know, we sure do. And we had a really cool vampire
- 36:22trio at one point in time in WWE.
- 36:25The gothic vampire trio that defended the 1999 goth culture
- 36:30bloodbaths, supernatural entrances and vampire
- 36:34immortality. I had to.
- 36:35I had to put my red light on them for this.
- 36:37Yeah, the music's so good too. Oh, the brood music is
- 36:41incredible. Incredible.
- 36:44Some of the best music Jim Johnson ever did, and that's
- 36:46saying a lot. Yeah, rising from a fiery ring
- 36:50to develop blood, spitting ambushes when they would do the
- 36:54bloodbaths. The bloodbath.
- 36:55Yeah. So cool.
- 36:57Did you ever see the WCW version?
- 37:00No. It was they were doing the.
- 37:03This is toward the end of WCW's like 2000 and the big feud was
- 37:08and this they had a group of people called the Millionaire's
- 37:10Club. And this was like what they
- 37:11would really call like some of the higher paid guys backstage
- 37:13like Hogan and Flair and Sting, Luger, DDP, like guys who were
- 37:19probably making $1,000,000 a year or more.
- 37:21So they made that a real stable. And then like the younger, more
- 37:24hungry guys like Billy Kidman and a lot of the Conan, a lot of
- 37:29those younger guys became the new blood.
- 37:31And so they did a thing where Kevin Nash is in the ring.
- 37:34Kevin Nash was part of the Millionaires Club and he's
- 37:37standing in the middle of the ring and he was supposed to have
- 37:39blood dropped from the ceiling onto him.
- 37:43And so he's standing there in his FUBU baseball jersey because
- 37:46it's 92000. He's wearing his FUBU and the
- 37:50blood falls about two feet away from him and he just has to look
- 37:54there. Like what do you want from me?
- 37:56It's WCW. Because this already just slips
- 37:59and just rolls around. And no, no, I don't think so.
- 38:02I, I think, I think you're thinking of when they jumped in
- 38:04the pool at at Club Laville and they're just like flailing
- 38:08around in the pool. I don't think he I don't think
- 38:09he he's slamming it. But yeah, now the Brood was a
- 38:12lot of fun. I know we both have had the
- 38:15chance to meet Gangrella. Gangrella is super cool.
- 38:17He's he's one of the taking. Flat back bumps is on in the
- 38:20fucking Falcons nest for no reason.
- 38:23He's a, he's a super cool guy though.
- 38:25He's he's a really, really fun guy to have in your locker room
- 38:28as well. And Gangrel legally owns the
- 38:30name the Vampire Warrior. Yeah, that was his name in in
- 38:34his early in his career in Memphis.
- 38:35Yeah, long before WBE. So he he tech, he owns that,
- 38:40that whole bit. All right, what's your next one,
- 38:42BP? My next one is one that kind of
- 38:48gripped me a little bit because I was like 8 years old.
- 38:50I, I knew kind of wrestling wasn't on the up and up, but
- 38:54there was still suspension of disbelief.
- 38:56And then Papa Shongo shows up. Papa Shongo shows up with a, a
- 39:01skull with like, I don't know who Baron Zombie was, but like a
- 39:05skull with like smoke coming out of it and making The Ultimate
- 39:09Warrior throw up and making black goo run down his face.
- 39:13And he's about to wrestle a guy and the lights go out and they
- 39:15go back onto the guy's hands on fire.
- 39:17And it's like, whoa again. Why wouldn't you do that every
- 39:21match? Why wouldn't you use your voodoo
- 39:23powers every match? Well, he kind of did there for a
- 39:25little bit because they had another guy like his feet were
- 39:27on fire and and stuff like that. He was mild.
- 39:31I got to meet him on a on an indie show and he was taking
- 39:35photos with children and like, he's holding this baby and she
- 39:38just stared at him and he just like, Oh yeah.
- 39:42It it it's so funny that he's since then become well, he goes
- 39:45from that to comma, who's like the serious Street Fighter guy
- 39:48to the to the godfathers like this fun loving pimp, pimp and
- 39:53hose nationwide roll a fatty for the pimp daddy.
- 39:56Yeah, so wrestling wrestling's voodoo priest with a bone
- 39:59necklace and a bad temper he was.
- 40:01His abilities were curses, voodoo spells, and making The
- 40:03Ultimate Warrior vomit black goo that you just had.
- 40:05No, those are two different things.
- 40:07He made the Warrior vomit and then he made black goo come out
- 40:10of like the Warrior's head and it came out like Geno and, and,
- 40:14and you watch it back. Like the Warrior's wearing a a
- 40:16jacket which he never wears 'cause obviously the jacket is
- 40:19holding like whatever device it is going up through his hair and
- 40:22like that. Yeah.
- 40:24Memphis, Steven Chambers in the chat in Memphis.
- 40:26He was the Soul Taker, which was like a proto Papa Shango.
- 40:29This was like a big time for voodoo gimmicks.
- 40:31And the other one was in Global Wrestling.
- 40:33It was Rasta, the voodoo man who I, I wanna say, I want to say he
- 40:41became, I think he was like in a commercialist.
- 40:47I think he might have been like Terry Tate office linebacker.
- 40:50So like that. I don't think that was Terry
- 40:51Crews, but I think Terry Crews would have been like big Rasta
- 40:55who was another guy with a voodoo gimmick.
- 40:57I guess it was just a, a popular thing in the early 90s.
- 41:02Like I, I don't remember like a movie where voodoo was a big
- 41:04thing back then, but I guess so. So I have a couple ones I want
- 41:08to throw out to you. I'm just like, would you
- 41:11classify these people as paranormal or spooky or horror
- 41:16inspired characters? Where where was that first one?
- 41:21Luna, Vashon. Not really, I guess the closest
- 41:26she got to that was when she would be with Vampire Warrior.
- 41:31Like I think they had a few shots in in ECW before Gangrel
- 41:35became Gangrel. So she was always like spooky
- 41:39adjacent or, or sometimes I think she was more of like a
- 41:42freak, like punk, almost like a punk.
- 41:45Like, you know, you would always well, actually let's how did we
- 41:49go this far without talking about Kevin Sullivan?
- 41:53But we'll circle back. Kevin.
- 41:54I want to run through. I want to run through a couple
- 41:56possible ones here. OK, the great Muda.
- 42:01No. Even the ability to spit poison.
- 42:06I guess so, but they always they always said like some like
- 42:08Japanese they they made-up some cockamamy thing about like
- 42:10Japanese people had surgery on their glands so they could like
- 42:14secrete. I still think that's like.
- 42:16I think that can that teeters on paranormal.
- 42:19Well, you can. Spit poison.
- 42:21Well, actually, no, yes. And and then if you factor in
- 42:25hustle, if you factor in Hustle, then absolutely.
- 42:28Because in Hustle they were able to summon the great Muda for
- 42:32you. Would you would have loved
- 42:33Hustle. They were able to summon the
- 42:35great Muda from a genie lamp. They threw the lamp down and all
- 42:39this green smoke comes up. And when the smoke comes down,
- 42:40the great Muda is there. And then there they had a a
- 42:44female character, Yinling, I think was her name and he misted
- 42:49her in the the neither regions. And and yeah.
- 42:54Had a baby? And well, she laid an egg.
- 42:57She laid an egg and the the egg hatched and it was not the
- 43:02gobbledygooker. It was a giant baby who was
- 43:05played by Zombie. No, it was going to be the egg
- 43:08man. He, he thought he was coming out
- 43:09of the egg. He was like, they're going to
- 43:11make me shave my head and I'm going to be the egg man.
- 43:15No, it was Aki Bono, the famous sumo wrestler.
- 43:18He was the, he was from Hawaii, the first American wrestler to
- 43:20reach the rank of Yokozuna, which is like the grand champion
- 43:23of a Japanese sumo. Big, big, big guy.
- 43:25Like 400 lbs six foot 7. And they made him a baby and he
- 43:30was Bono Chan and he was the son of Yinling and the Great Muda
- 43:34because the Great Muda impregnated her with his his
- 43:37miss. So yeah, supernatural.
- 43:39Jake the Snake Roberts. He was almost like borderline
- 43:44serial killer stalker. Yeah, yeah, that if you're
- 43:47counting that. Yeah, like especially that,
- 43:51trust me, that Jake Roberts, the Jake Roberts was in the feud
- 43:55with The Ultimate Warrior where he locks him in the room with
- 43:57all the snakes. Yeah, that was.
- 43:58And he's getting buddy, buddy with the Undertaker.
- 44:01Yeah, that not supernatural, but definitely like more of a like
- 44:06horror slasher. In fact, they did a they
- 44:09actually did a gimmick in WCW when Vince Russo was first there
- 44:13where nobody was getting killed, but somebody was attacking
- 44:16people backstage and wore a Scream mask.
- 44:18It was the whole Scream outfit. But I guess, I guess Warner Time
- 44:22Order it was. Probably David Arcade.
- 44:24It was, it was actually she had. She had not left for WWF.
- 44:28It was actually Molly Holly before she was Molly Holly.
- 44:30Oh wow. And then two more for you, this
- 44:33one probably easier. Malachi Black.
- 44:36Yeah, with the black, yeah, with the the the mist thing in AAW
- 44:40more so than WWEI think it was like he seemed to be able to
- 44:43control people's mind with his mist or something.
- 44:45Like and then the last one and this one where I'm torn because
- 44:49I think he started off as paranormal spooky horror and
- 44:53then kind of transformed to something completely else but
- 44:56gold dust. I don't think it was ever
- 44:59paranormal, like it was just the guy that painted himself up
- 45:02gold. Like you didn't get like Buffalo
- 45:05Bill vibes. Androgynous.
- 45:07Scary. Not really, because you remember
- 45:11very early, like you're not, you're only like.
- 45:13Spying on people. He had cameras everywhere.
- 45:16Well, it was never confirmed that that was him.
- 45:19In fact, they would always say like it was never called GDTV.
- 45:23Yes, it was, yes, it was. Yes, it was once, once or twice.
- 45:28But no, I I think it was more mind games and, and that that's
- 45:32more in like the line. And then it very quickly became
- 45:34mind games based on him pretending to be homosexual.
- 45:38Is is mankind Mankind's a horror character?
- 45:41Yeah, I it's a famous horror back story where he's he's like
- 45:50stuck in a basement with his rat George, which was a reference to
- 45:54Jim Cornett because Jim Cornett had a pet rat named George.
- 45:56Wasn't it really Cornett's rat? It may have been.
- 46:00It may have been. Because I think there's a whole
- 46:01bit that somebody just talked about online where I think
- 46:04Cornett had a call off work. He couldn't be part of a meeting
- 46:07because his pet rat died. Yeah, George is like your your
- 46:10rat died like. But they said early on the the
- 46:14man when mix holding the rat in those promos, it was yeah, it
- 46:18was his pet, Yeah. Yeah, not so much like he didn't
- 46:21have powers, but yeah, there was definitely a, a supernatural
- 46:25curve to it. Same thing with Oz.
- 46:26Oz didn't have powers. I just want to mention him
- 46:29because he was on the graphic. Oz was basically, they got the
- 46:33Turner, got the rights to the Wizard of Oz.
- 46:35So they wound up just having him.
- 46:38Kevin Sullivan as the Wizard sing Welcome to Oz in a very
- 46:41thick Boston accent. Yeah, well, let's let's pay
- 46:44tribute to one that we cannot skip over, and that's Kevin
- 46:48Sullivan. The devil, the first guy that
- 46:50they called the devil, and it's funny because they never brought
- 46:53up Satanism. They never brought up anything
- 46:55like that just because they, they, they had to toe a line
- 46:59because remember, this is like the mid 80s.
- 47:00It's Florida. It's a very like kind of
- 47:02conservative area. And so it was always like a
- 47:09higher power and things like that.
- 47:12And he shaved an X in his chest and, and, and he, he was, it was
- 47:16a more serious version of what later became the Dungeon of
- 47:18Doom, which was again, very, very spooky tinged because you
- 47:23had the purple haze. Mark Lewin, who I think came out
- 47:27of the Atlantic Ocean. And he would, and he had, he did
- 47:30have like it seemed like mind control powers.
- 47:32And that's where Luna Vashon comes in, because Luna Vashon
- 47:35comes to Florida as a journalist.
- 47:38She's playing a journalist. She's using her real name.
- 47:40She's. It's not Luna Vashon.
- 47:42It's. Oh, this is Trudy Hurd, a
- 47:44journalist who's here to cover wrestling.
- 47:46And she falls under the spell of Kevin Sullivan.
- 47:50And they do a Manson family. Yeah.
- 47:52Yeah, they did. And like, they shave half her
- 47:54head and. And like, she she continued
- 47:57rocking with that look. But that's where Luna Vashon
- 47:59came from, was Kevin. And same thing with
- 48:02unfortunately with us. Yeah.
- 48:05Fallen Angel who was solving his real life wife at the at the
- 48:08time and again just under his spell and it was very very very
- 48:15heavily implied that he was a Satanist, but they never came
- 48:18out and said it. Yeah, well, we're hitting that
- 48:21marker of the episode. I want to run through this.
- 48:23Some names I have on my list. BP you can run through some of
- 48:25yours, but I had the Ministry of Darkness, Mordecai, The
- 48:29Boogeyman, Abyss, Rosemary, Kevin Thorne and Ariel Vampiro
- 48:35Mill Mortes, but you can go on for days and days and days.
- 48:39Yeah, most of Lucha Underground, yeah.
- 48:41Yeah, Pentagon. Pentagon Junior.
- 48:43Pentagon Dark The Vampire Warrior.
- 48:48Which was Gangrel, yeah. Yeah, Black Scorpion, Waylon
- 48:52Mercy, Karma the Demon. Finn Balon Demon.
- 48:59I thought you meant the kiss demon.
- 49:02We'll kiss demons on there, too. The Dungeon of Doom.
- 49:06It's not hot. It's not.
- 49:09There's the whole Kabayacs here. I've never been here before.
- 49:14The sinister minister we talked about earlier, Raven.
- 49:18I don't know how much that one falls in, though.
- 49:20Raven Well. In so much as he was a cult
- 49:22leader. Yeah, Julia Hart, The Missing
- 49:25Link. Black Rain.
- 49:28That was, that was also Dustin Rhodes.
- 49:30That that was, that was the low point of Dustin Rhodes's career.
- 49:32I think he would be the first to say that.
- 49:34Oh, you also had a relic, which was killer spelled backward, as
- 49:36Mike Denais said every time he mentioned him.
- 49:38Yeah. And then some other ones.
- 49:40Dan Hausen, Sue Young, Charles Mason who on the independent
- 49:44scene I think is doing a pretty good serial killer Jason Bateman
- 49:47role and then Max the. Impaler Yeah, Matt, They're
- 49:51they're they're excellent. They're, they're very imposing.
- 49:54It's funny. You're talking about some of
- 49:56those TNA people. I forgot about the Voodoo
- 49:58priestess Roxie Laveau. Roxie Laveau, who was Roxie
- 50:04Laveau was a manager for the Voodoo Kin Mafia VKM, which was
- 50:08a new age Outlaws and get it because VKM has Vince McMahon's
- 50:11initials. But she, yeah, she played, she
- 50:13didn't do anything inherently spooky.
- 50:15But the, the thing she's most famous for is when she got out
- 50:18of that like voodoo priestess gimmick, because whatever dye
- 50:21she was using to, to, to dye her hair, when she was doing that
- 50:25gimmick, she had a severe allergic reaction to it and she
- 50:29had to shave her head. And so they turned it into a
- 50:31wrestling angle. And even when they're cutting
- 50:32her hair, you can see like she has like, like most of her scalp
- 50:35is just like a beet red from whatever kind of skin disorder
- 50:41she had. Let's see, I we covered a lot of
- 50:44them. I'm trying to think of more like
- 50:45the Indies. Oh, the neo solar temple.
- 50:47There's my Ultra Mantis poster back there.
- 50:49Ultra Mantis. Yeah, hollow, wicked and and
- 50:52fright and frightmare. Well, the whole Eye of Tear
- 50:54thing where the that's like the monkey's Paul, that was the
- 50:57monkey's Paul of a Jakar universe.
- 50:59Like the Eye of Tear was basically an artifact with like
- 51:02this great power. And they did a lot of stuff with
- 51:05Delirious where he was like possessed by it and things like.
- 51:07Delirious is a good one. Well, he's a lizard man, so
- 51:10yeah, that that's a little supernatural.
- 51:12He's a lizard man. Oh, what's?
- 51:14Who's that yousefur with the frozen caveman on the?
- 51:17NFL Yeah, yeah, yeah. Unfrozen caveman wrestler.
- 51:21Unfrozen caveman wrestler. Yeah.
- 51:23I I know Stephen in the chat brought up Lord Humongous, who
- 51:26was Sid Vicious at one point. Also, Jeff Van Kemp was Lord
- 51:30Humongous for quite a bit. That was a lot of those guys
- 51:33that came out of like the Mad Max movies.
- 51:35They post apocalyptic things like the road Warriors, but and
- 51:38then demolition was an offshoot of that.
- 51:42I'm trying to think of other ones here.
- 51:43I I know we're missing a ton because there's been so many of.
- 51:45These things, so many. I know Cross.
- 51:50Depending on how you define him, at some point.
- 51:52Marion Cross. Killer Cross.
- 51:54I I that's, I think also a lot more in the vein of the besides
- 51:58that book that like lit up on fire that you did to Keithley.
- 52:01That's where the vein of like the Charles Mason, not almost
- 52:05like a cult leader American Psycho that that and that leads
- 52:07me right to Sean O'Hare. People love this gimmick that
- 52:10Sean O'Hare did where like people thought he was almost
- 52:12like the devil where he's just like, go ahead, do whatever you
- 52:15want. Nothing like he.
- 52:17They were these really well produced skits where Sean O'Hare
- 52:19is like a good looking dude, big dude in a suit, and he's like
- 52:23just basically the devil on your shoulder.
- 52:26Like go ahead, cheat on your, cheat on your wife.
- 52:28Who cares? It's all about you.
- 52:31Spooky doink. Spooky Doink was good.
- 52:33Yeah, yeah, again, not, not supernatural, but definitely
- 52:38just an evil clown is always fun.
- 52:40But that's Sean O'Hare thing that I'm not telling you
- 52:42anything you didn't already know.
- 52:43Such a good gimmick. It was just again, the bell had
- 52:46the ring and Sean O'Hare had his own problems.
- 52:50You mentioned Mordecai. That didn't last long.
- 52:53Yeah, they they there was always guys, especially against the and
- 52:56then Mordecai was Kevin Thorne. So there's always those guys
- 52:59like, OK, we need a guy that's like somewhat supernatural so we
- 53:02can go up against the Undertaker.
- 53:05That was always kind of that was always kind of thing there.
- 53:07Before we get out of here, let's let's plug what's going on over
- 53:10in Slatington this weekend. PPW Shadows Talk about spooky
- 53:15shadows with a nice spooky logo. It's going to be our big show on
- 53:20October 11th, the Slatington Expo Center.
- 53:23You can see some things on ppwwrestling.com, YouTube at PPW
- 53:27Entertainment. I got to start putting more
- 53:29matches up there. I think sometimes we're going to
- 53:30put that Tony Deppen VSK match from last month up there.
- 53:33Phenomenal match, might put that Golden Ticket ladder match up
- 53:36there and now that it's been on TV.
- 53:38But this month is going to be a fun one.
- 53:39We're going to have Karolina Cruz, former NXT star.
- 53:44She's going to be an action against Gem Dio Bando, defending
- 53:47the PPW heavyweight title against Chris Slade.
- 53:49We've got a San Juan Street fight for the tag team titles
- 53:53counter strike in Los Toxicos. It's going to be a fun night of
- 53:56action as always. It's always a fun time at PPW
- 53:59and we're going to have new shirts.
- 54:02New shirts are coming out this month and I believe in November
- 54:04or December we're going to have new cards, the new cards that is
- 54:06going to be coming out. So lots of fun things happen in
- 54:10the PPW land. And then on the 18th I will be
- 54:13doing some ring announcing at New Era Pro Wrestling, so you
- 54:15can come check us out at the Falcons Nest on the 18th, but
- 54:18we'll post and talk about that more as it comes.
- 54:22But from Hellfire and Brimstone to Cothic vampires and brain
- 54:26melting puppets wrestling Spooky Side reminds us that the
- 54:30business is just pure theater. A live action comic book full of
- 54:33demons, angels, ghosts, mummies and somehow it all ends in a
- 54:37small package Pin because. After you pull the guy's
- 54:42underwear off. Yeah, after you pull the
- 54:43underwear out. Because at the end of the day,
- 54:45wrestling is is the only place on earth where a zombie can drop
- 54:48kick a mayor and get it. Makes perfect sense.
- 54:52So thank you guys so much for tuning in to the ABJ Podcast
- 54:55Tornado tag with myself and BP. Burke, you know, time out, time
- 54:59out. I just realized the the mayor of
- 55:01Knox County once tombstoned the secretary of Education, that
- 55:07that's the thing that happened, that that's that happened.
- 55:10Yeah, that happened. That 100% happened.
- 55:14Unreal. Yeah.
- 55:16And he might be against it, but he I think he had some abortions
- 55:20in his career at some point in time too.
- 55:23Well, it wasn't that one guy's fault.
- 55:24That's all I know. It wasn't his fault, it was
- 55:26somebody else's. But yeah, but tornado tag is
- 55:30something we'll we'll try to keep going on Thursday nights
- 55:32for you guys. And it all really depends.
- 55:34Sometimes we may be doing it in person, sometimes it may be
- 55:37live, sometimes it may be a thing like we're not live this
- 55:40week. And if we're not live, we're
- 55:41probably filming for you guys to check out next week because we
- 55:44might have some old faces come back.
- 55:46I think we are going back to more topic based again.
- 55:48Well, not thinking we are going back to more topic based again.
- 55:51I got one very excited that we're going to do soon.
- 55:53Yes, I I pulled up some photos for it already, but yeah.
- 55:57And then we'll also, and like I said, I'll try to do more recent
- 56:01modern day stuff, our current wrestling, but they'll be in the
- 56:04form of like shorts and reels. So make sure you're following on
- 56:07Instagram, TikTok, YouTube here. We'll we'll put them up on as
- 56:11well, But that's going to do it for us and here at tornado tag.
- 56:14We'll see you guys next time we're out of here.
