- 1:00access to the premium side, which we do with all our nations and seven
- 1:03dollars or more in addition, and go to Great Detectives dot net. We
- 1:07have a couple of great articles up this week. First of all, we
- 1:11take a look at the Colonial Radio Theater's latest mystery drama. This one's called
- 1:18The Thinking Machine, and my review will be up on Saturday for that.
- 1:23On on Sunday, I'm going to take a look at how radio is a
- 1:26little bit different than what we were told. I think mostly people in culture
- 1:33kind of liked to believe that radio is some silly comedies and a few hard
- 1:38boiled detectives a little more than that, and we'll talk about that at Great
- 1:42Detectives dot net. You can follow all the articles that we do on your
- 1:48kindle and you can try it out free for two weeks through the Kindle Store.
- 1:52Just search for the Great Detectives of Old Time Radio. Well, we
- 1:56returned to where we were in our chronology after before we went to that lost
- 2:00episode. So now here's today's story, the Pitiful Patricide case from June seventeenth,
- 2:08nineteen fifty two. Ladies and gentlemen, we take you now behind the
- 2:15scenes of a police headquarters in a great American city. We're under the cold,
- 2:19glaring lights. We'll pass before us, the innocent, the vagrant,
- 2:23the thief, the murderer. This is the lineup that fine. Thanks,
- 3:00we brought a home this morning. That's good. You got a hand it
- 3:02to him. Doc said, there wasn't a peep out of but behave better
- 3:05than most grown ups. Proud father. Oh shure, if you had any
- 3:08kid, you know what it's like. Missus Wise, hear you. I
- 3:12don't think so. The client come in. I haven't seen him. Sandy's
- 3:15always been brave about things like that, though even the dentist doesn't bother alright
- 3:19man, Oh hi, I find oh sady day, I don't ask him.
- 3:23You get a lecture on brave children. Oh she's fine. Thanks,
- 3:25didn't you have me mind? I believe? Oh? How along was wise?
- 3:30Hello? Lieutenant Guthrie. How are you feeling much better than you remember?
- 3:34Sage to find Serge National. I'm sorry, I'm le seems like there's
- 3:39so many things to do now that daddy has gone. That's all right,
- 3:44Yeah, this will dot. Did you find the man that did this awful
- 3:49thing? We're not sure. We picked up one man a picture description.
- 3:53Oh but there were two men. Yeah, I know, but if we
- 3:57can get one, we can usually get the other. You people out there
- 4:00on the other side of the wire on the orders room. Now I have
- 4:02your attentions. Please thank you. My name is Coger, Sargeant Pat Cogger.
- 4:08I'll explain the lineup to youse. Each of the suspects you will see
- 4:11will be numbered. I'll call off a number their name in charge. You
- 4:13have any questions or identifications, please remember the number of signs of the prisoners.
- 4:16I call his name at the end of each line. When I ask
- 4:18for questions or identifications, call out the number. If you're sure, you're
- 4:21not too sure of the suspect. Have him held. The officers who took
- 4:25your name will assist you their seated the money. Please be prompt with your
- 4:28questions or identifications. When the prisoners leave here, they're sent to the washroom
- 4:31and dressed back into the jail clothes. It makes it quite difficult to bring
- 4:34them back after they leave here the questions. I asked these suspects of reality
- 4:39to get a natural tonal voice so they'll not pay too much attention to their
- 4:41answers as they often lie. All right, bring on the line. Okay,
- 4:46keep it moving. Why don't we hear to the end of the states?

- 23:40Listen again next week when we again bring you the lineup. May I
- 23:44have your attention please, People out there on the other side of the wire
- 23:47in the audience room, may I have your attention? Please? Thank you.
- 23:51My name is Cougar. Sorry to speak Cougar. I'll explain the lineup.
- 23:55Each of the suspects you will see you will be numbers. I'll call
- 23:56up a number. Their name is Shark Keviny Glenn. The line Up,
- 24:10starring Bill Johnstone as Lieutenant Guthrie with Jack Moyles the Sergeant Pete Carter, was
- 24:14written by David M. White with music by Eddie Dunsteader featured in Tonight's cast
- 24:18were Peter Leeds, high Everback Virginia, Greg Howard mcneer, Her Butterfield,
- 24:22Bob Dailey, Sam Edwards, and Jeanette Nolan. The lineup is produced and
- 24:26directed by Hi Made del Vayer. Presidential Election Night. As the boarding returns
- 24:42pour in from coast to coast, CBS Radio will be ready with one of
- 24:45the most comprehensive reporting jobs in election history. Make CBS Radio your Election Night
- 24:51headquarters or coverage by Alan Jackson, Lowell Thomas, and Edward Armorau, and
- 24:55shortly after for full time coverage by the entire CBS Radio news staff. And
- 25:00remember, between now and November fourth, make CBS Radio your election campaign headquarters
- 25:04for all developments clearly, impartially reported, and coverly speaking. This is the
- 25:18CBS Radio Network. Welcome back. Well, if you're like me and you
- 26:17didn't catch it, the first thing you did after the show was over was
- 26:25rewind back through it to find out where Bob Bailey appeared. And I'll go
- 26:34ahead and answer or say you little searching in trouble. He was the second
- 26:38guy in the lineup. Speaking of today's lineup, Carter seemed to be going
- 26:48kind of fast when he was reading the instructions. I mean, I know
- 26:52it's not Shakespeare or anything, but my goodness, he was going quick through
- 26:56that. Also, given that the whole point of the lineup is to get
- 27:00a questioning people on the line up is just to get a natural tone of
- 27:04voice, he was kind of going hard after that con man guy, who
- 27:11was I believe it Howard McNair's character. And of course then there's the title
- 27:17of this the Pitiful Patricide Case. Okay, the guy didn't actually kill his
- 27:25father, unless they're trying to suggest that the murderer killed the liquor store owner
- 27:33in a indirect way of killing his father, which kind of seems a little
- 27:40Freudian but not so straightforward. But or it could be that they were just
- 27:45looking for something with alliteration. All right, Well, now we've got a
- 27:52couple a couple of announcements. First of all, I've added a new show
- 27:59to the big list of programs that we're going to do. And the program
- 28:03I've added is The Avenger. I'm probably gonna wait till after we finished Nick
- 28:08Carter because it's one of those shows that that is a bit more pulplish,
- 28:18and probably having two of them running at the same time, doesn't make sense.
- 28:22It was originally designed as kind of a knockoff of The Shadow, except
- 28:26it really was a detective mystery. I was listening to it back during the
- 28:30when we were doing James Monks in Mister Moto on the show, so I
- 28:37could have something to go ahead and play as an extra. But I found
- 28:44out that actually will work in the program, so we will. It's been
- 28:48added to the eventual list. Those of you on the app A premium side
- 28:52have gotten an unhosted episode as kind of a little foretaste of what's to come.
- 28:59Kathy comment, I love it when you post these b movies, and
- 29:03this one's from Puritan Pictures No Less, and that's from Video Theater number forty
- 29:07four. I'll name the Murderer. I'm glad you enjoyed it, Kathleen.
- 29:11I appreciate the feedback. We don't get a whole lot on THEO on that
- 29:18particular aspect of the program. I've done in the last few months quite a
- 29:23few more television shows just because the best of the public domain movies, things
- 29:30like Doa and My Favorite Brunette, we've already played, but we're continuing to
- 29:41look for gyms that are actually public domain, but expect a mix of b
- 29:48movies and television programs when applicable. I know we have a couple of episodes
- 29:57of the Adventures Philip Marlow TV show that we'll be bringing you when we do
- 30:03that series, and still haven't made up my mind for a month of October.
- 30:10I will let you know next Saturday, though, for sure. And
- 30:12then we have a comment from Chris, who says I have to apologize,
- 30:15but I'm a recent convert to this particular podcast. I've long listened to old
- 30:21time radio, but found this incredible podcast earlier this year. I'm listening to
- 30:26back broadcast and just got to the start of the Mister Moto series. This
- 30:29is a series I have never heard before, and since I've been listening since
- 30:33I was a we one, finding anything from the Golden Age that I've not
- 30:37heard is rare and treasured. Thank you for your continued and hard work and
- 30:41bringing all of this wonderful contact back to life once more. Well, thanks
- 30:45so much, Chris, and I love notes like this and the comments that
- 30:51we get. It's part of what keeps me loving doing the two these Tuesday
- 31:00programs, which usually feature shows that are less heard of than things like Johnny
- 31:07Doller, Nick Carter, and Philip Marlowe, but still pretty interesting and fun
- 31:14to listen to. All Right, well, that will do it for now.
- 31:18Join us back here on Monday, as we will bring you yours truly
- 31:22Johnny Doller. Next Wednesday we'll have a Johnny Fletcher mystery, and then on
- 31:27Saturday we'll be back for the lineup. Send your comments to Box thirteen at
- 31:32Great Detectors dot net. If you enjoy the show, please rate it on
- 31:37iTunes and follow us on Twitter at Radio Detectives From Boise, Idaho. This
