- Forged In The Dark: Sticky spots and permission to change your mind. Now I can't identify your sticky spots for you, and I am not going to give you permission to change your mind, but that's what I have in store for you today. Welcome to Forged in the Dark. I'm your host, Jamie. Let's dig in. We all have sticky spots. You have sticky spots. I have sticky spots. And at this point, I hope that you know what your sticky spots are. I hope that none of you are genuinely stuck in any area of your life. If you are, that's a different conversation. I hope by now. You have identified the areas of your life that are working, the areas of your life that light you up that you feel like you are the fire, not the dumpster fire. You are on fire. These things are working. And I hope that you celebrate yourself, give yourself lots of high fives and happy dances. But today is about the sticky spots. Because we all have them. I know what my sticky spots are, and I have sat with two of them this week. it was just the other day that I was sitting with a project that I have been procrastinating on, and I know that I have been procrastinating on, and I haven't even wanted to think words like creative block, writer's block. Anytime those phrases pop up, I do everything in my power to squash them, to shut them down, and ask myself the question: what progress can I make? So I pull up the project and I started tearing it apart. This isn't working, and this isn't working, and this isn't working, and this isn't working. And as I started to remove the things that weren't working, I started to slip into the creative flow, and then I started to have all of these other ideas of things that do work. And I spent the entire afternoon asking myself the hard questions, And it started working. The the project one minute I'm I'm sitting down typing. The next minute I'm on my feet circling my kitchen island monologuing. It's working. my gosh. So this made me think of how many times we stay with something that's not working simply because that was a choice we made at one point, And I'm not giving you permission to change your mind. I am giving you permission to give yourself permission to change your mind, to make the necessary changes. When something is not working, you must be willing to break it down and start removing the sections that feel flat, that feel out of alignment. That simply don't work. And this can be any area of your life that's a sticky point. Remember, these sticky points are things we already know. We have identified we're not stuck, and we have identified that we're not on fire. And what typically happens in these areas is we twiddle our thumbs. We say, I'll work on that tomorrow. I'll work on that tomorrow. But what if it legitimately was as simple as changing your mind? And I have another story to go along with this too. And I started to tell you this last week about running. Change the plan, never the goal. That's that that was the message. Change the plan, never the goal. And today is very similar, but just slightly different. I ran five miles on Saturday after walking two. Now walking two miles as a warm-up is not ideal. That does not set the pace for the people that I run with, which means that I'm going to be running solo until I get that two miles whittled down. But for now, the excitement is so real. And what I had to let go of here was the idea that. I need to be exactly where all of these other runners are. Some of the runners in my run group have been running pretty much their entire lives. One since she was 13, another for at least the last 10 years. I have been running eight and a half months. And the fact that I can hold my own with them, with them most of the time is good. And I need to be celebrating what is working, not what's not But in this case, it is the idea that to train for this half marathon, I have to be where they are. No, the most beautiful thing is I only have to be where I am. But must. Give myself permission to be where I am. So think about those areas of your life. Get into your mind an area that's working really well and let yourself be proud of yourself. Give yourself permission to be your biggest cheerleader, to really celebrate the things that are working. And then step to the right or the left. And and find your sticky spots. I I sat with two sticky spots this week, and I made significant progress in both simply by giving myself permission to do something different, to try something different, to start removing the things that were not working. Change the plan, not the goal. This is not about quitting. This is about Finding alignment, becoming aligned with what you're working on, with what you're doing. That that sticky project for me that I procrastinated on. You guys, I am jazzed. Like I am so excited now every single day to get to my time-blocked hour to work on this because it's finally more me than it's ever. been you have areas of your life whether it is at work or or or it it I was about to say in business I I guess I guess if you work for someone it could be your job if you work for yourself it could be in business or this could be in any kind of relationship when you start to look at the places that you Are dissatisfied at the places at the things that aren't working. Sometimes you must remove those things, those pieces, those chunks, not the whole thing. But you remove the things that aren't working and Often times what is in front of you is a structure, a form, a clump of lay, of a clump of lay, a lump of clay. Why am I thinking a lump of clay? I don't even think there would be a lump of clay. But but think of it as clay, right? Now you get to mold it. You have taken out all the pieces, all like my gosh, like now I have Hobby Lobby in my head and I'm thinking of literally buying molding clay. You take it out of the package, you take the cellophane off, and then you get busy molding it. my gosh. And that just popped right into my head. When it comes to your sticky spots. Sometimes we have to remove what's not working first to get to what does work. Okay, that's what I have for you. Until next time.
