We roll Now the fucking Letterman. Now it's fucking Letterman. Letterman. [laughs] I like Letterman. Hey, everybody. Hey, everybody. Welcome to Radio Programming. No. Every, Every Day Cycles- Not Leno. Not Leno, no...
• 0:16
podcast something, something. Do you think Leno even knows how to ride a bike? Got lots of motorcycles. No, motorcycle. That's different. Hey, everybody, we got JK in the studio here tonight. Hello. Hello.
• 0:29
Tony Burger's right across the, uh, desk from me. You got Sven here. We're, uh, we're, we're on, uh, week- [laughs]... we're on week three of the [laughs] impromptu podcast. What's going on in the neighborhood? Ding.
• 0:47
Oh, pretty- Got some wea- got some weather out there today. Yeah, it, it's been a little bit on the nipple side. Yeah. It was- It was a test, it was a test of using layers again. Mm-hmm.
• 0:59
And I overdo it normally, so, y- I mean, you can always peel back. Right. Exactly. And, eh, it got dialed in. [scoffs] Well, once you, once you're- Only, only at 5:00.
• 1:11
[laughs] Once you're moving, it's like, you know, if, if you dress for when you're moving pretty briskly out there- Mm-hmm...
• 1:17
it's kinda chilly when you first get rolling and you're like, "Oh, this is the part I really don't care for." Yeah. You just gotta get warmed up and things are all groovy then.
• 1:25
But if you dress for that initial walk out the door- Then you're too hot... then you're sweating- Hell no... like a pig. Yep.
• 1:30
And I hate that, that little spot between your chin and your neck where the wind comes straight through- Oh... and chills you to the bone. I got one right, right on, right on the- Yeah... ball of my neck. You know?
• 1:40
[scoffs] And haven't, haven't busted out the scarf yet. That's the key. Or the, uh- Or the baklava. No, no, no. I, I, I- Ba- bala- clava. But, um, sounds delicious. Wow, balaclava. [laughs] It's so delicious.
• 1:49
I like baklava better. I like baklava better. I had the, I, I, I had the- With some sauces... the mask, and I pulled it off, but even with the mask, there's a little flappy flap, and, and boom, of course. Mm. Chill. E.
• 2:02
Yeah. And I, I, I felt like I- I was claustrophobic as hell going [gasps]. What was it this morning, 12? 12 degrees? 17. 17 degrees. So, yeah. Not too bad. I mean, eh. Begin of November.
• 2:15
Yeah, now it's 30, and all is well. It is beautiful. Beautiful. Yep. It was supposed to get up into the 50s this weekend. That's just- See, not happening... not gonna happen. Not happening. Not even close.
• 2:25
But no, this is, like, a test for myself to get used to what's gonna happen, 'cause it's not [laughs] gonna get colder. Brian Goddard says 70 degrees is coming still sometime before Christmas. Fuck that.
• 2:39
I like Brian Goddard. Really? Yeah. I would, I would enjoy- [laughs]... another 70-degree day. I'm not gonna lie. We need the, we need the windows warm enough to put signage up. I can't put signs on in 17-degree weather.
• 2:49
[laughs] Makes sense. I- Did you still deliver the lawyer?... can't believe it... yeah, I don't know... heater. So nobody knows where the shop is yet at 826 East Locust Street.
• 2:57
[laughs] At 26 East Locust Street, you say? Yes, I think it's 826 East Locust Street. I'm standing- See me right outside having a cigarette, waving you in. [laughs] Isn't it right across the street from Wu-Tang Park?
• 3:06
Is that what that's called? No, it's called Garden Park. It's called- Everyone calls it Wu-Tang because the statue. It's called- Wu-Tang Park. Tony's Campground for River West '24 Park. [laughs] That was a long stay.
• 3:18
Yep. First year was great when the cops pulled up and asked me what I was doing. I was all by myself. I had one of my buddies who wasn't entering the River West '24. I'm like, "I'm registering for a bike race."
• 3:29
He's like, "When's the bike race?" I'm like, "Tomorrow at 3:00." They're like, "What are you doing here?" I'm like, "Registering for a bike race." And they just drove away. Waiting to be number one.
• 3:41
The night I stopped by with some Pabst and bacon. Yes, I recall. [laughs] The Pabst bacon break. And going like, "Okay, well, no, you need-" Pepper bacon..." Pabst, you need Pabst and pepper bacon, thank you kindly.
• 3:54
What do you know about River West '24 plans for next year? Um, I mean, n- none of the bonus checkpoints have really been worked out.
• 4:05
I have heard of a little bit of something going on potentially at Flux Design, but you didn't hear that from me. [laughs] I, are they gonna do the, uh- You sound very Trumpy when you do that...
• 4:13
are they gonna do the, uh, team thing again? [laughs] What's that? The, um- What do they call that? What do they call that? The convoy? Something, yeah. There will be a convoy again. Ah.
• 4:22
And they might expand it from three to six. Almost like a team time trial. Like, yeah. [laughs] That's an intriguing- 'Cause you all have to do everything, right? That's, it, it... Yeah.
• 4:32
My neighbors did it this year, and it was very funny to see them come home at about 2:00 AM to take a little break, and then- They don't look like they're happy...
• 4:40
he, well, they, they didn't, like, end up getting back out on their bikes until about 10:00 AM, and they looked pretty miserable.
• 4:46
[laughs] Hey, for our listeners, the River West '24 is a, uh, a bike race in, in urban Milwaukee on approximately four-mile course, usually the last, uh, Friday, Saturday in July, right? Yep, yep, always.
• 4:59
Which corresponds with the last weekend of RAGBRAI if you're RAGBRAI folks. But- Yep... neither here nor there, because you could go do part of RAGBRAI, do a little training, and come and do the '24.
• 5:08
Yeah, it's not the same weekend as, uh, Frost Bike. We... Is, are they still capping it at 1,000? Usually. Yes.
• 5:15
1,000 riders in this race, folks, so if you're in the Milwaukee area and you wanna do something really fun on that weekend- Or just hang... make sure to be here and vol- Or volunteer. Yeah, or volunteer.
• 5:23
Or hang and hand out beers and stuff. Beers and... I think there... Are there gonna be more volunteer tickets this year than actual- Yes... rider, riders? [laughs] Well, well, there, there- Yeah...
• 5:31
the last several years there have been more people volunteering. Oh, I was, I see, paid riders. Well, they're all paid riders, but you mean- Right...
• 5:38
yeah, as the number of volunteers increase, the number of people that [laughs] aren't smart enough to volunteer the year before decreases. Decreases. Therefore, it's much more difficult for you to get into the race.
• 5:50
Top of your ass. Why do you keep looking at me, Tony? La- last year it... [laughs] Oh, because Jake didn't make it last year. 'Cause no, I don't volunteer. Well, I take, I take- You didn't volunteer...
• 5:59
well, I unofficially volunteer... no, I said I don't wanna volunteer. I take photos all, all weekend long. I should- Do that as an official photographer, and then I could be volunteering. You could totally do that. Yeah.
• 6:09
I am certain that could work in- I am certain that could work in-... in sort of a situation-... my favor somehow. Yes. Last year, the epic part was the, the extra fire check bonus checkpoint.
• 6:18
You have a bonus checkpoint every two hours, and you have to do something silly, and sometimes it can be a long trek and last- Some of them wasn't that silly. Well, what's that? Some of them aren't that silly.
• 6:29
No, some of them are okay, but some of them are silly. And last year there was a trek where you had to ride all the way down to Pass Cross- Yep... along the trail.
• 6:38
So everyone that did it, including the guy that ran it instead of riding a bike, they all did it, they got back, and then they had the wheel that determined the number of points for that bonus checkpoint.
• 6:49
Wow, so that's an arbitrary thing. It was zero. Oh, boy. [laughs] So the guy on the unicycle, Jeff Hanson, rode, you know, a fair distance only to find out it was- Mm... totally useless. Oh, I forgot. Oh, up the artery.
• 7:04
Yeah, I forgot about the artery. Up the artery, across and down Gritty Road. Yeah. Yep, yep. Shit. Poor Washington or Ottawa. Poor Washington. Excuse me. Yeah, well. Yeah, I forgot about that. Hey, it was 1 to 0.
• 7:14
That's, that's a, a kind of a nice segue into what's going on over there, uh- Ta-da... Saturday, the 24th of November. Mm-hmm. Yes. Urban Jungle Cross 6. Urban Jungle Cross. I- it's officially 6 now. Ah.
• 7:27
I may have not known that before, but, uh- I have no idea what the time is, but- Oh-... it's during the day of that day, so... hit, hit, hit one of us up on, uh, on the old book face, and, uh,
• 7:40
we'll, we'll, we'll keep, clue you in because it's sort of a no man's land area that we've been hacking and building trails for the last month or so and- It'll be in the afternoon-ish. Yeah, probably. Yeah.
• 7:54
'Cause I- That's- Registration late morning something-ish... well, there's always a-...... there's always a, a recon lap and- Yeah... some- If you wanna know what you're into...
• 8:05
shenanigans and people come from- 'Cause it's gonna be a--... other cities to do it, so. It's gonna be fun. They tend to bring whiskey.
• 8:12
Well, there should be a whiskey hand up, a beer hand up, and potentially a fried chicken hand up. [laughs] Man. Wow. Yeah. Hand Up Alley is, I think, gonna be mostly under the bridge. I know.
• 8:24
I s- Seems like a good spot... I, I've been the, I've been the beer hand up guy for the past three. I was whiskey hand up at the last one for sure. And I kinda wanna be the fried chicken guy. You'd rather be the...
• 8:35
[laughs] I think I'd rather be the beer guy than the whiskey guy 'cause- I'd rather be the beer guy person.
• 8:39
I'd rather be- Well, one for you, one for me, [laughs] one for you- That could work well with chicken too though... two for me. Uh- That's what I'm saying. I'd like to opt up to the chicken place, but no, I know my beer,
• 8:52
uh, things. Thing, beers. Well, no, 'cause you have to, like, dance on a pirouette. Like, boom, boom, boom. 'Cause they come in hot. Yeah, and you've gotta... Yeah... so like a half a cup of, uh, a half- Yeah...
• 9:03
a plastic cup and then, uh- Exactly... then you can kind of sling it, and it doesn't spill and- Boom, and boom, and boom, boom, boom, boom. Gimme, gimme, gimme and da, da, da, da, da. And mm, delicious. [laughs] Yeah.
• 9:16
So yeah, so that's happening. Uh, that's, uh, what? A week away. A week and a half- Yeah... from today since it's Wednesday. Yeah, Saturday after, uh, Thanksgiving, so you have to burn off [claps] all your turkeys.
• 9:30
And, you know, that's also Small Shop Saturday or what do they call that? Yeah. Yeah. So everyone should come in and support Everyday Cycles while you're out before the ride. Before the...
• 9:41
I think I'll be here till 1:00, and I may not make the- The last minute... I gotta get over there at, for the start to, again, photograph, I think. Yeah, get your last minute shopping.
• 9:51
Seems like a lot of work to actually ride the course to me. [laughs] Oh, I'd much rather be, you know... That's why we're gonna do the hand ups. That's why there's racers coming. Yeah, I mean, it's awesome. Hey, racers.
• 10:00
It's an awesome course. Show up for this race, you know? Yeah, it's an awesome course. It, I mean- It should be fun. Might be muddy. Yeah, what's, uh- It's like a mile... a little squishy.
• 10:08
Little, little over a m- little over a mile. Has, is that redetermined? There, th- no. There was a dispute going like, "Under a mile, little over a mile and a half." And I'm like, "Eh." It's about a mile. About a mile.
• 10:20
It'll be a timed hour, so- Yeah... however long it is, however many laps you get. It's awesome. There you go. It's fun. It's, and it is a fun rip. It's a damn fun rip.
• 10:32
So I don't know whether this, uh, little topic here has... It does have something to do with the cold because, like, this thing showed up today in the mail. [laughs] What is that?
• 10:42
It's a beanie with a Bluetooth, uh- Oh, great... headset system in it. Nice. So- Does it have things in the ears? I just... Yeah. Right here. Oh. So when you put it on- Pretty cool...
• 10:53
they're, like, right where your ears are. Yeah, until you get blasted by the... Well, this, it just was, it was, um, uh, was on sale. It was, like, 100 bucks normally. I'm like, "Yeah, right," but it was 30 bucks.
• 11:04
So I said, "Well, kinda curious about it." And, um, when I was putzing with it today, it led me to beli- think about, uh, other... First of all, a lot of people listen to audio when they're riding, a lot of people don't.
• 11:20
Um, I tend not to right now so much, but that hasn't always been the case in the past. I know JK is a, has a soundtrack going 24/7. [laughs] Yeah. I, I've never seen JK without one. It's actually going right now.
• 11:34
I just have it turned down. [laughs] No, just constantly, like, whatever. It just, I just have my shuffle shuffling. And you're a st- you're mostly a Boombotiks guy, right? Every day you're shuffling, shuffling.
• 11:47
You know, there's so many speakers out there now. It just, I guess- I just don't... I, I have one of those, and I used it once, and it got a little gnarly feeling. [laughs] The headphone hoodie, beanie? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 12:05
Well, I did, I wore it around the shop today. I didn't really wear it riding yet 'cause it just- Yeah, I was wondering... just showed up, but- Mm. It, it, it feels It feels about $20.
• 12:15
I mean, the hat itself is 10 because a beanie is 10, 20 bucks. What are they? Right. 10 or 20 bucks. Well, and, and the thing is- If they, if they have fancy logos- It shifts... stitching on them, they're 20.
• 12:24
If they're just a thing, they're- It shifts. Okay. It shifts. Your ears shift, or- Yeah, it's got like a little-... you know, the little things. Especially if you have a lid over it. Right. Well, yeah.
• 12:31
It's like- If you're rocking a helmet with the... Depending on how it- Yeah. That's not s- It might, might throw it off a little. That's why I just deal with the speaker on the back. Yeah. No, I, I'm thinking- Right.
• 12:40
Exactly... that's a better plan for riding. This might just be for, um, shoveling snow or raking leaves or something like that- [laughs]... so that the, the neighbors aren't offended by my
• 12:50
metal church or whatever I'm playing at the time. Goddamn Judas Priest. [laughs] Hey, speaking of Judas Priest, did any of you guys see Bohemian Rhapsody yet? Not yet. No. Goddamn it.
• 13:01
I had planned to go, uh, Tuesday, but I did not. Oh. Maybe- The friend of mine went Saturday and was extremely disappointed. I, it seems like people are either really happy with it or really unhappy with it.
• 13:12
It's only got like a 62 or something on Rotten Tomato. Well, now, and the thing is- But what are people expecting, you know? Yeah.
• 13:18
How much do they really know about Queen, where this is something that would- Or Freddie Mercury...
• 13:23
they're, you know, a fan- And the one thing my friend said that shocked- The one thing is he looks a lot like Freddie Mercury. [laughs] But that's fine, and Danny, and all is good. Just crazy.
• 13:33
My, my buddy that went saw the, saw it said he hated it, but he said the one thing he took away is he had absolutely no idea Freddie Mercury was Indian.
• 13:42
[laughs] And I'm like, you know, when he told me, I'm like, "Really?" I mean, he's from Great Britain. I think he might have been like born in... We have to go see it. But his parents are Indian. Yeah.
• 13:53
Well, we have to go see it. Yeah. [laughs] He looks more Turkish, doesn't he? Yeah. That's from the Turkish, Indian part of Turkey. Oh. But, uh, yeah. So we can discuss that at some point when we all see it.
• 14:06
[laughs] Yeah. Maybe we do that like after we all see it. But what, what we should do is just talk about other people we know that have seen it and what they say. [laughs] Yeah, just pass it on.
• 14:13
Hey, speaking of passing it along- Oh, Lord... I have a two ounce miniature flask from, uh, Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee. That was the, uh, one of the schwaggy gifts from Fat Tire Tour. Tony put some fancy whiskey in it.
• 14:30
Chicago whiskey. Starts with a K. I wish I knew more, other than the fact that it's delicious. Uh, how do you spell Chicago with a K? K-C-H? No. The company is from Chicago, but they spell it, the company name, with a K.
• 14:42
Oh, they still spell Chicago with a C, though. I'm pretty sure. 'Cause you said it's something like vegan something, organic something. It's, it's organic, vegan, and it is kosher. It's...
• 14:56
So is Coors Light is kosher, and Miller High Life is kosher. I think most beers are kosher, aren't they? Depends on if they have a rabbi come in and bless the place.
• 15:05
Well, you probably gonna want to do that if you're gonna- Yeah... sell to the brethren. You know? They're probably not- That is-... slaughter, slaughtering pigs as they prepare your whiskey...
• 15:13
that's really tasty whiskey. It is incredibly good whiskey. Um, d- I think we might have talked about this last time, I still haven't gotten to it yet, the Aldi whiskey that's gotten really good ratings. Have you had it?
• 15:27
No. I have not had it, and it gets great ratings. Okay. See, there's all these things that we're planning that we haven't done yet. Yes. So.
• 15:33
[laughs] So if you're listening out there, good listener, and you- Good listener... feel that you need to, feel free to send us some Aldi whiskey. Yeah. Ald- What's the location again, Greg? Aldi.com.
• 15:45
No, um, 826 East Locust Street. [laughs] Just send it in a plain brown wrapper- Yeah... with a guy sitting on the bench out front. We'll eat it, and we'll test it in that same- You will be amazed at how tasty that is-...
• 15:57
plain brown wrapper... I believe. That is incredible whiskey. I was shocked. I'm... Is it spendy? Yes. That would make sense 'cause it's good. Aldi whiskey? No. No. It's not Aldi. [laughs] That's the Chicago whiskey.
• 16:10
But that's not to say that that won't be good too, which we haven't gotten to yet again. Sorry. Yeah. I just came back from the bathroom. [laughs] Some lucky listener's gonna send us some. Speaking of lucky listeners,
• 16:22
uh, we're still, I wouldn't say totally fumbling through these things yet, but, uh, we- [laughs]... sh- we could certainly use some topics for conversation, what do you want to hear about, people you want us to talk to.
• 16:33
Um, maybe by the next show I will have the podcasting rig back over here. We're still talking into a microph- it's not in a cup anymore. It's on the table. Yeah. I miss the cup. The cup was good.
• 16:47
Actually, the- I liked that... cup episode- 'Cause it was fun to talk to a cup... hey, I found the... Oh, that looks good. Come on. There you go. Are, is, are they defunct? Oh, yeah. Long defunct. Fate? Fate Clothing.
• 16:59
Yeah. Huh. Well, that's too bad. Yeah, it really is. They were, they were really good. They were fun people. Oh, Boulder, Colorado. Are you ready for another b- b- b- brewha? I would love another adult beverage.
• 17:10
Um, Tony- Yes... brought Founders All Day IPA, which I am a humongous fan of. I am as well. Because it's all day, and you know, it's daytime right now, sorta.
• 17:19
You get 15 in a pack because you might start early and finish late. It's a fucking burner. I know. It's a burner. It is a burner. So I can r- repl- [laughs]
• 17:31
not replace, but one is peeling off my Carhartt 'cause I don't want to walk around with, "Hi, look at me, I have a Carhartt." I'd rather have a- Unless they're paying me to advertise for them.
• 17:44
It's like buying a car and having the logo of the dealership on the back. The first thing I do is take it off, and the license plate cover. License plate frame. Yeah.
• 17:52
It's like, "You're not paying me to advertise for you. Gone." Speaking of which, guess who got back his car finally? Oh, did- Mike? Yes. [laughs] All right. So I shit you not. Though he rarely drives it, by the way.
• 18:07
Is that still rolling? And that's good. All right. So my car went ballistic- Is it Jeep?... at, at the... Yeah. It's a Jeep car. It's a Jeep. At the [laughs] at the end of June. The horn just mer.
• 18:24
[imitates horn] And okay, I'm just like, "I don't wanna fucking deal with it." I was going out, having a vacation for like two weeks, and I'm like, "I don't wanna fucking deal with this." [horn stops] Come back, boom.
• 18:41
[horn continues] Take it to this place, I'm not going to say the name 'cause I don't wanna hex anything. [clears throat] But it's back. It's back. It's back and it's working? After
• 18:59
six, eight weeks. One part of it is working. This is phase one. This is phase fucking one. Cars suck. Fucking Jeeps suck. Well- I shit you not... unless you're Dave Lunds, then they suck more.
• 19:13
[sings] [horn] [laughs] No, that's funny. [laughs] It's probably just mad at you for never driving and always riding your bike around. Yeah, could be. No, it just, it just... Oh my God.
• 19:26
It was the funniest fucked up thing I've ever dealt with in my life. I'm just like, "Who the hell is blasting their horn in the backyard?" [laughs] "No, no, no, no." I'm like, "Holy shit, this is my car."
• 19:38
[laughs] Just out of the blue, some- Yeah... chimpanzee was out- Yeah, yeah... pushing the horn? No, no, it was around the time where it was like big, like, uh, water drops. [imitates water] Oh, boy.
• 19:50
And just fucked it up. [laughs] Oops. And I'm like, "What the fuck?" And there was a guy next door just sitting there having a smoke, having a good time, watching me and going like, "Mm-hmm, mm-hmm." Yeah.
• 20:03
I'm like, "Whoa, man. Sorry, man. Sorry. I don't want... I don't know what's happening." [laughs] Did you just disconnect the battery then or? I was trying.
• 20:13
I was trying to like mess with all the fucking fuses and shit, and finally it just burned out, and I'm like, "God bless America." [laughs] Was this going for hours or what? Minutes. Okay. Long enough, loud enough.
• 20:29
Loud enough for you. Oh, God, it was just pain. It was just absolute fucking pain. So apparently that part is finished. Good. Yay. Now does anyone know anybody who can, uh, fix brakes?
• 20:47
[laughs] Dave Lunds..com. Dave fucking Lunds..com. DFL. I would not necessarily not have Dave do it. I just need- Brakes are easy... I just needed to get that one thing done.
• 21:01
[laughs] As long as the calipers are still- No... okay and they can compress, brakes are easy. Well, no, the whole, the whole- You know what brakes aren't easy today? Regenerative. Oh.
• 21:11
The brake on the front of that bike, I think the, uh, I think the, the fork might have had a bent post or something like that. Oh. So it's a little- So I had to... Yeah, I had to go through and
• 21:24
measure and bend a little bit because it was... just kept not lining up well at all and now I think it's- The, the rotor wouldn't line up well? I think it's good now. Do we have any sound? [bike kickstand clicks] Oh. Oh.
• 21:36
Oh. A light, very mild- There, yep... yep. It's, it's getting better. Oh, God. Yeah. Are, are, are those the hydraulic brakes? They're Techros, I think m- kind of medium or low line hydraulics. They're not bad. I- No.
• 21:49
Adrian already had one on the bike and so I just- The Adrian?... different one for the front. Techros are not the end of the world. No, 'cause- They will stop you. I don't know, where's this Hayes that didn't work?
• 21:59
Is it Adrian? Yeah. Adrian? It's Adrian, mate. Adrian. Please come and buy tomorrow to pick it up. You're not such a fucker anymore. Yeah, I think- Fucking Adrian... it's pretty good. It's pretty good.
• 22:12
I don't know how old this Hayes... [bike kickstand clicks] Oh, it's a Stroker Trail, so it's pretty old. Fucking Adrian. Um, he had one on the back. Dave took it up off and took it apart and it went poof- [laughs]...
• 22:23
just kind of disintegrated. Disintegrated. [laughs] So I don't know. Hayes is a local company, and I love local companies, but- But... I, you know what? They still use DOT 4, don't they? DOT 3 or DOT 4.
• 22:35
DOT 4, yeah, DOT 4 I think. And n- they have a new brake out, which apparently is getting really good reviews all over the place.
• 22:41
Um, and I talked to the new sales manager over there, who of course is a sa- a sales guy, right? Right. Yeah. So of course he's gonna talk it up. He is a guy. I said, "Are you making them with mineral oil yet?"
• 22:50
He says, "No, no, still DOT because it's more consistent." Bite me. And it, your seals- Piss, yes... blah, blah, blah. I- Service it in the field. Yep. I've also- Is it not piss?
• 23:02
I mean, I've mostly gone to [spray] anything that's getting real abused on the beach or whatever, or in the snow, gets mechanical brakes. Mm-hmm. My trail bike has Shimano on it because guess what? They work. Amazing.
• 23:15
I don't know how that happens, but they set up easily and they work- TRP, man... don't stop working. The TRP brakes are, they're a little pricey.
• 23:23
Well, they're more pricey than a BB7, less pricey than others, but- Oh, the Spike? The Spike. The mechanical one? Oh my God, I love that brake. Yeah, that's a good brake. That's on that Spike brake. Quiet.
• 23:31
That's the incredible part about it, the dual piston a- you know, the dual caliper actuation, that, that is such a quiet brake. I have been- Even in a dead rain... invited. To?
• 23:42
Chris Zito's Church of- Two Wheels Event, Urban Jungle Cross 6. How are you getting that if you're on airplane mode? He's not. I just took it off airplane mode. [imitates creaking] [laughs] Sorry.
• 23:56
We were getting some, some crosstalk from the, uh, the cell thing on last episode we did on this. All right. That said, like I said- That said...
• 24:04
I mean, if we're gonna keep doing this every two weeks, I'm bringing the gear in here and we're just gonna do it like we're supposed to. We're here. Still not gonna edit it much though, if anything.
• 24:12
You start doing that, I'm coming in naked. Yeah, boy. Hey, we're right- I was, I was wa- Right in front of... I was waiting for the script. So okay, two things about the shop I- Give me the script. Yeah, what script?
• 24:24
Script shmript. No. So I, um- Take, take my nuts. What a delicious nut. Take my nuts. They are really good. Take my nuts. These are very large sunflower seeds.
• 24:34
Bring in some- And these sunflower seeds- Those are nuts [laughs] Take me to Ali, Ali nuts... potatoes and [laughs] Yeah, they look like a humongous sunflower seed. Yeah, they're delicious. So two things about the shop.
• 24:43
Number one, those new displays there [laughs] Are sexy. So those are- [laughs] So what I... But what those things led me to conclude is that the shop is kind of set up now for...
• 24:56
It's a small place, so it's sort of set up now for retail. Like, a lot of Christmas, small gifty stuff, things that people might buy for their cyclist in their life. But my plan now is in, like,
• 25:09
March 1st to flip it and put the f- service up front, and maybe even in that space right there, have somebody working- Oh... right in that front window doing service. Yeah. What do you think of that? Is that a good idea?
• 25:20
Are they doing service naked? Not that I'm aware of yet. Not me. That would be a, that would- Well, they could wear an apron. That would be... Yeah, there you go. I would be naked with an apron. Yeah. It, it'll be okay.
• 25:32
Yeah. Apron and leather chaps. It's- Assless chaps? I, that's, that- Ass, of course. What other kind of chaps are you gonna have? Yeah. Not assless. Then they're full pants. Oh, does that even count as pants?
• 25:43
All chaps are assless. Yeah. That's right. 'Cause assless chaps are pants. [laughs] Are, are yeah. [laughs] Well, ass- You fell into it... chaps are pants. You fell into the fucking... Yeah. All right.
• 25:53
There is no such thing as a chap that's not assless. It's the same. Well, the chap down the street. What is this podcast going down the crapper, Lee? I, that chap's not...
• 26:03
Well, this was all about- No, it's just, it's bonking off the walls... putting a mechanic in the, in the front of the store and- I like that. I laugh...
• 26:08
and, and turning, and turning the, the angle of the, the store in the summer more towards the service side when people are actually using their bike. But, eh, we'll see, if I'm not totally broke by then.
• 26:19
Come on in, people, buy some stuff. Yeah. How you, how you doing? Come on in. How you doing? How you doing? Lord, there's some great tools. [clears throat] There's some killer bikes. Yeah, man.
• 26:34
So what's, uh, what else is going on? Anything coming up? Oh, uh, December 1st [sniffs] is both Global Fat Bike Day and also- And Santa Rampage... uh, Santa Rampage. Or where they, they're calling it Rampaging Santa now.
• 26:46
Right, and so- 'Cause the bike that's gluing onto it. Right, which I'm not gonna partake. Whatever. They, they're doing the, they're doing the Tosa down to, um... I'm, yeah.
• 27:00
December 1st, so there's two things that caught my eye. Yeah, that's fine. Yeah, that's, uh- I'm gonna try to make it- But it's gonna be really hard because- I'll go, I'll go down to the- Yeah... stop point.
• 27:09
I, I'm gonna try to make it, but I'm throwing out a shout-out to Destr-Job, who's got, uh, Martin playing the Friday night beforehand at The Cafe. Oh, that will be a late one.
• 27:19
[laughs] That's gonna be a very late night, early morning, which is gonna make it very [laughs] difficult to get up and hit- Unless you just keep going... Rampaging Santa. Unless you just keep rolling.
• 27:28
Unless you just keep going. Yeah, well, here's my picks. [laughs] And this would lead me to not be here in Milwaukee, would be George's thing up in Two Rivers, Manitowoc area. They're- Two Rivers?...
• 27:40
they're talking about 400 fat bikers being up there for this event. [gasps] That's pretty epic. Uh, somebody just sent me a note, fatbike.com note, about 286 people- Man...
• 27:48
they had last year, and they wanted to know if they were the biggest. I said, "I don't think so, by a s- pretty good margin," but, um, so that's one potential.
• 27:57
And then the other one, there's a group in, in, I, I don't know if it was his group. Actually, that's a good question, um, in Iowa that's doing, that's very big, couple hundred also. Spinner? Spinner again?
• 28:06
Not Spinner, no. I don't know. He's a Madison- Who's, who's back at, at, in Iowa? Um, oh, crap, he was working for Boo Bikes out in- Oh, yeah... oh, Adam? Adam, Adam has- Adam, Adam's back...
• 28:20
has returned to- So maybe he'll, you know, drum up some- I think he's actually back at World of Bikes- He is back at World of Bikes... where, where he, where he kind of escaped from these many years ago. Yeah.
• 28:30
Uh, World of Bikes, I've been going to that shop for over 30 years. It's a great shop, and the guy that owns it now is only the second owner in that time, so I believe.
• 28:41
Oh, did you hear, uh, the, um, uh, One On One seems to be going away? No, I did not. There was, th- there, there was something that just, like, flew across my, uh- My cracky? Let's not start spreading rumors here yet.
• 28:58
No, no, I'm not, I'm not- Let's see what's going on. [laughs] I'm not trying to spread rumor, but- Let's check the internet... but yeah, it, it was just a weird- Does Adam have an ear ping?
• 29:06
Uh, no, but it's on Wi-Fi, so it won't matter. No, it, it was one of those things where- Maybe... like when you always, like, deal with fucking, like...
• 29:13
You deal with Zito, and he's got the One On One, and like, "Hey man, hey man," you know? And [laughs] That's an epic imitation. You know? [laughs] Holy shit.
• 29:27
You just know wherever you're- Zito, if you're hearing this, epic... [laughs] Yeah. He's got you down, bro. He does have you down. Down. Yeah, I don't know, but there's also,
• 29:37
uh, the other thing is there's a bike line called On One. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I know On One. Which is a British thing, I believe. British. No. [laughs] Yeah, I think they are, aren't they? Yeah, I don't know.
• 29:48
I've, so I'm not, I don't- [laughs] Oh, God, I'm stopping myself... 'cause sometimes I'm on one. [laughs] Let's see. Oh. That, that, that sounds like almost Danny MacAskill, like, you know, "Oh, I see him coming on one,"
• 30:04
versus on two or four. I was gonna say- OnOne Speed, maybe? Maybe. No, they do multi-geared. No, it wasn't bicicletas. Yeah, I don't know. Well, it's- All right... you, you.
• 30:17
No, I was just- These are all things we should have- No, no, no, it was just- We should have- That's, I just, I heard the thing and-... full info about... da, da, da, da, da, da, da... hey, does anybody know about that?
• 30:27
[laughs] Oh, I got a notification from Chris Zito at the Church of Two Wheels. Mm-hmm. I guess it's an invitation to the event. John- John- No, no, it's- Johnny on the spot. Hey, oh, you know, we should- Hey, oh...
• 30:43
we should probably share that thing. Yeah. 10:00 AM, I'm not going to that thing. Well, 10:00 AM is, like, registration, right? I don't know.
• 30:51
They're meeting at, I believe, he- they're meeting at Sprecker, 'cause I know he had a meeting there today, and, and, uh, that's a good thing, 'cause Sprecker's a brewery and- Yeah... they have beer. It's meet at 10:00.
• 31:02
They'll supply some beers. Meet at 10, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah. Hit noon-ish, roll out, boom, roll around at 1:00.
• 31:12
It seems to be- Yeah, practice laps from 1:00 to- Yeah, roll out about 1:00, 1:00 to 2:00. That seems legit. [laughs] The long-awaited sixth round of the best crops race in the Midwest is back for another round.
• 31:24
Location has changed, but spirit has not. You know, Sprecker for registration, group ride in the new course, hop, skip, and a jump away. More details to follow. Wow, he's a poet. Right?
• 31:35
[laughs] So yeah, so Jungle Cross 6 we were talking about earlier. Yep. That's actually 10:00 AM on Saturday, the 24th- And it's on... now, which... Good, hopefully the r- actual racing doesn't start till 1:00. Right.
• 31:48
Of course it won't. [laughs] Or 1:30 when I get out of here. Exactly.
• 31:52
You know, otherwise, maybe the shop will just have to be closed the day, the, the busiest shopping day of the year [laughs] or the, or the second busiest, perhaps. You probably shouldn't do that. Well, that's all right.
• 32:04
Nobody knows we're here yet anyway. That's why we're talking to you fine people. I know you're here. Yeah. I'm somebody. I'm somebody. I'm trying to sell this here State bike for you. Yeah. That's, um, a demo.
• 32:19
It's a demo bike. I, I... That, that was- Kim wants it. As I was on my way here, I got a message from- Kim wants it. Oh, Kim wants it? Oh, yeah. Should have her- Oh, yeah... see if she can, if she can stand over it.
• 32:29
It's kinda big for her, I think. Yep. Yeah. We'll see. Yeah. It's... One of my students, she- She's not, she's not one to have a, a well-fitting bike though anyway. [laughs] Yeah, really.
• 32:38
Exactly, so I'm just kinda, like, going, like, "Hey, you know, this'll- I'd like to get her on a bike- Yeah, yeah... that fits right and just see if she's like- Boom, and just, "Hey, look. Here we go"...
• 32:43
"Oh, this is way better." Boom. Man. Well, she's always like, "This is a, uh..." Well, no, she's, she's bitching- Just, just getting ready to leave about the fucking truck, and I'm like, "Ah, fuck, it's a big truck."
• 32:53
For somebody that- Just getting ready to live here, to come here, though, a former student worker of mine who's now got a PhD, he's like, "I, I moved back to Wisconsin, and I wanna ride the winter, all winter.
• 33:05
Last year, I lived in Boulder, Colorado. I rode a Jake The Snake. I want a fat bike." Nice. Okay. I'm like, "Go to Everyday Cycles. We got something for you.".com..com. They have very tasty nuts.
• 33:18
Aren't those nice nuts? Molly is very into her seasoned nuts. Nuts. They got a little- 'Cause, you know, I am 51 now, so. I got a little kick, and they got a little, um, sh- sweetness. Nobody knew that- Sh...
• 33:33
nobody knew- You're a youngin... how sweet your nuts are. You're a youngin. And by the way, if you guys need to borrow any scorpion peppers, I have enough scorpion peppers to probably last me- What is scorpion?
• 33:43
Two million Scoville. Is that above what? That's pretty dang hot. That's just shy of a Carolina Reaper. Okay. All these fancy peppers. Don't eat it. [laughs] Yeah, boy, I don't need to.
• 33:56
[laughs] Absolutely delicious in- Oh, yeah... small quantities. You make a bowl of chili, or they make a pot of chili really nice if you put about a quarter of a pepper in it. I found one that was- They're smoky.
• 34:09
Oh, they're delicious... it was awesome. It was, uh- Favorite... the source. And it was just... It was habanero essence. Oh, the liquid stuff? Yeah, where they boom. Pff. It's just wrong. Yeah, and it was going like pff.
• 34:24
One of those- Wow... good for- There's the chili poster-... you know, like, a gallon of shit... but it doesn't really, uh... [laughs] And finally- You can't, you can't read it, so I, I can't tell you how, how...
• 34:34
But two million's high, right? Two million's very high on the, on the Scoville. It's, there's only a couple of peppers hotter. I like to go, like, three, four, somewhere in there.
• 34:42
But it was- These are- It, it was my little sad-... like, barely, barely above apple spicy... 'cause I had a cap- a capsaicin high- Oh... until I ate these, and I was like...
• 34:52
I, I had to sit in the chair for a little while and just really, really enjoy life. [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] I was literally... Molly looked at me, and she's like, "Are you okay?"
• 35:01
I'm like, "I am very, very hot right now." And she's like, "Are you gonna throw up?" I'm like, "Not at all." [laughs] I'm like, "This is absolutely delicious, but I am so hot
• 35:13
that I cannot even talk," which is unusual for a guy like me. Yeah, no, I know you're- Yeah, I know what, I know what's happening here... usually are not one to, uh, hold back on the chatter. Yes.
• 35:22
I, they are delicious, but they are brutally hot. Three quar- a half to three quarters of one pepper per batch of chili beans. And- Was that- I will go-
• 35:37
Or that I have to wait for the [laughs] left part of the [laughs] situation, going like, "Yeah, it was hot on the [laughs] intake. [laughs] Outtake." Oh. Ooh.
• 35:54
On the, on the exhaust part- Wow. Wow. Wow, wow, wow, wow... feel the- You will hurt. Oh, yeah. And, and- They're delicious though. They're totally worth it. Mm. Just down... Around the back, totally worth it.
• 36:05
The Spice House down on Old World Third Street, get 'em there. Probably the best, one of the best spice places in the country. It, it has to be. Only one. They have the most delicious...
• 36:15
You know, but Cleone being a youngster, walked into the place and said, "I want the hottest thing you sell." [laughs] And this young gentleman's like, "Well, I have these scorpion peppers" You're gonna fucking...
• 36:26
Goddamn funny with that shit. [laughs]He's like, "I have these scorpion peppers. They're two-" Yeah, I've had a scope once or twice, and, and I, I, it's- Oh, true... it's like blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, "No."
• 36:35
For a, for a soon-to-be 13-year-old girl, this- It's like it is real... this kid is going. [laughs] I cannot believe the, the temperature this girl can eat all the time too.
• 36:46
[laughs] It's not like have them once and wait a month. She'll do this every day. That ain't right, man. That ain't right at all. She'll be an eater. She won't have any... You know, it's great for your body.
• 36:57
She can do the Encyclopedia Brown thing. She will probably be able to do that. Yeah, she's a,, she's a trooper, and she got me hooked on them now too, so... But, ooh, I had a big batch today. Yeah, the sauce part sucks.
• 37:11
Tomorrow might be ugly. Uno mas on the, uh, cerveza? Sure, sure. Heck, we already burned 37 minutes of these fine people's time. I like burning 37 minutes of fine people's time. I'm gonna go get another cans of beer. Mm.
• 37:27
Uh. [coughs] Oh, God, we're still on the clock. Stop- On the timing clock... the chattering. Coo, coo, coo. Coo, coo, coo. Coo, coo, coo. Choo, choo. Coo, coo, kachoo. Oh.
• 37:41
[burps] This is what happens when he gets a- Sibilance. Sibilance. Syphilis. Syphilis. Syphilis. Syphilis. Oh, no. Syphilis, syphilis, syphilis, syphilis. Sibilance. Syphilis. [laughs] It's mil walk-ay.
• 37:54
It's El Conquistador. For the good Earth. Well, there's, uh- Syphilis... there's no more All Day IPA, but- There's only syphilis... syphilis, that's a delicious percentage. [laughs] Somebody... There's a Moon Man.
• 38:06
Moon Man if you want a Moon Man. I still have a half a Founder's. I think I have to, if I remember right... I don't know. Those are great. I think I gotta open these over the sink though.
• 38:15
They've been kinda- You don't want one of those? I don't give a shit. You, you work the state. I'll open- You employ, employ your own. [laughs] Employees. Oh, I don't employ my own.
• 38:27
[laughs] I need your, uh, beer popper schnickel. Which one? Beer popper schnickel. Something to open these things in the other room over the sink. That's what I'm... Oh, that's another Fatter Tour mer- Oh, is it?
• 38:41
[laughs] How's that one work? Uh, like that maybe. Does it? No. Uh, I don't think- We can't open beers. We're in trouble. I don't... This is not- Wait, Zach has to open a beer... that does not open beers.
• 38:53
No, it's this way. Yeah, see. Yeah. There you go. All right. Asshole. I got it. Geez. He figured it out. He figured it out. It's not his first rodeo. No, it clearly is.
• 39:04
[laughs] Is there anybody, has there been any new beer gear that, uh, that you can mount, like the Wisecracker, that you can mount to your bike to open beers? I know the State- Yeah, right there...
• 39:17
yeah, the State Bike's got a great beer opener built into it. That doesn't fit any- Yeah... any bottle. Possible bottle. [laughs] No. Well, it'll fit a Rynlander shorty.
• 39:26
It is ergonomically not- So we go get- [laughs] Okay. See? Fair enough. Fair enough. [laughs] If we go get a Waterberry and someone hands us a grenade- [laughs]... we can open on that. Okay, fair enough.
• 39:36
[laughs] Or a Little King's Cream Ale, it'll open on that. You just, you, you're just obsessed with a gigantic beer. You're not gonna open a 40 on it, but you open a four. Yeah.
• 39:48
I have to go and hang out with the fucking carnies. Really gotta hang out with the carnies, huh? [laughs] Ooh. Thank you, sir. Look at that frosty cup. Just does a little top and it's good. I like it.
• 40:02
It's got a little frosty cup. It's also really freaking cold. Yeah. That's probably means I should turn the fridge down. [laughs] That's generally a good idea. Before I forget about it. Yeah.
• 40:13
[coughs] How far in are we on here? We have, um, we have now consumed 40 minutes of your time, people. I hope you're enjoying it. We're not on any ti- we're not on any kind of time crunch here. We shouldn't be.
• 40:28
If we're done with our, uh, telling everybody- Yeah... what's going on, we can just say, "Hey, we'll be back next week" Say hello to fuckers. Oh... or two weeks from now, whatever.
• 40:37
You know, you'll catch us when you catch us, folks. Say bye, everybody. Bye, everybody. You know, we should invite other people in just to, like, bring beer and stuff. Oh, we will. Yeah. Good idea.
• 40:48
Don't you worry, good sir. Bye, everybody. Next time.
