- 2:27It's a shot in Memphis. It's probably some kind of
- 2:30Tennessee whiskey I got. I got a stop dude.

- 3:05But yeah, shout out to to Charlie.
- 3:08All right guys, Mark Vital, GA for the K State Fence basketball
- 3:13team was arrested in Manhattan, KS for domestic battery.
- 3:17Vital and a woman were arrested at 12 O 4:00 AM yesterday
- 3:20Monday, February 9th for domestic battery and knowing
- 3:24rude physical contact with a family member or dating
- 3:28relationship. The team refused to comment for
- 3:31a number of hours yesterday. Then they finally released a
- 3:34statement early in or well late in the afternoon saying we are
- 3:37aware of Mark Vitals arrest on Sunday night.
- 3:41I guess it was Monday morning technically, but they said
- 3:43Sunday night. Tang said in a statement he has
- 3:45been removed team responsibilities until the
- 3:48judicial process runs its course.
- 3:51The hits keep coming boys. Not only is the team awful this
- 3:54year, not only did they blow an 18 point lead against TCU on on
- 3:58Saturday, but now we've got staff molars getting arrested
- 4:00for domestic abuse. What's next?
- 4:04I mean. Who's who's hitting some elderly
- 4:07woman in the high V parking lot with their car?
- 4:09Gambling. We haven't crossed a gambling
- 4:11scandal off the off the bingo card.
- 4:13That's true. We've got a player, Chris.
- 4:16Bier did less, let's be honest. Oh.
- 4:21He's back so. Yeah.
- 4:25Maybe he may be vital, you know, eventually redeems himself and,
- 4:30you know, all the facts come out.
- 4:32You know, maybe we should get before we hit these airwaves,
- 4:36maybe we should get all the facts because I have fallen prey
- 4:40to the same thing I have fallen prey.
- 4:45Have you? Yes, I have.
- 4:47Let's let's unpack that a little bit.
- 4:50What's on your mind? What's on your mind?
- 4:51Do you like to tell the people what you fell prey to?
- 4:54I mean, I was, you know, some would say I was tricked, I was
- 5:02led astray by information on the Internet, which you can't
- 5:06believe everything on the Internet.
- 5:07So that is I fell for that. That was the first rule and I
- 5:12fell for that. So I have to own up to Moby Ek
- 5:16Guruka. I owe you apology, brother.
- 5:19You hopefully you're not listening to this podcast
- 5:21because your mental health is definitely going to take a hit
- 5:24having to listen to this. So I mean, I apologize, brother.
- 5:29I apologize because I I painted you in an I'll light and that's
- 5:34not right. I'm rhyming right now.
- 5:39I was thinking of something that can rhyme with rhyme, but here
- 5:42we are. That's my apology.
- 5:45That is my that is my official stance.
- 5:47I do apologize to Moby Ek Guruka.
- 5:50Interesting chef. Another take that's incorrect.
- 5:56That's what you got from. That that's that is one other
- 6:03thing that I got from that. OK, OK.
- 6:06That's fair. For every Yeah, you shouldn't
- 6:08listen to everything on the Internet, Chef.
- 6:10Yeah, it's tough, but what Can you believe?
- 6:13If you can't believe a random egg account on Twitter, what Can
- 6:18you believe? I mean, you can't even follow
- 6:21meme accounts without it turning into office office crush Kaylee
- 6:24anymore. Code according to Coach Tang.
- 6:27And and Scott Scott Wildcat can't get his mail sent out in
- 6:31less than 60 days. I'll tell you what I think Grove
- 6:35City's falling prey to that too. Man, it is getting bad news up
- 6:39here. The post offices in shambles.
- 6:42Not City 5, by the way, not City 5, not the docs myself.
- 6:46But you know. We have so many viewers in Ohio.
- 6:52Not to talk to myself, but you know I am getting that mail out
- 6:55there officially. No problem all.
- 6:58Right, right. Let's let's.
- 7:00This basketball team, this basketball team is just a.
- 7:03Back on the rails. This basketball team is just
- 7:06something else. I mean, the hits keep coming.
- 7:11And I mean, you could paint it and, you know, you could get all
- 7:15the journalists you want to paint it into the light of, you
- 7:19know, that they're going through a flu bug, that they've got
- 7:23personal things going on. That's why the the success is
- 7:26not the way it is. But I mean, the, the success is
- 7:31not there in the basketball program.
- 7:33It though is the way it is. But we saw a microcosm of what
- 7:40this team is on their game versus TCU.
- 7:45And that, that is just, it's kind of unexplained.
- 7:50It's a new level of I don't even know what the word is.
- 7:57I mean, it's just, it's just bad.
- 8:00What's What's another synonym for bad?
- 8:04Horrible, abysmal, or. It's just it's just another it's
- 8:10just another level an 18 point lead blown.
- 8:13I mean, it, it evaporated in the first half, but then you've got
- 8:16you're up 10 with two minutes, 3 minutes left.
- 8:23And then all everybody's true color show Tang, the lack of,
- 8:30you know, preparedness on the offensive end, the carelessness
- 8:34of the ball with the carelessness with the ball.
- 8:37Nate Johnson just fumbling the ball.
- 8:39You have the best production you're going to get from your
- 8:439th, 10th man off the bench and you can't, you know, you can't
- 8:49seal the deal. PJ Haggerty is looking for foul.
- 8:55I mean, that is the 4th or 5th time that we've had a game
- 9:00decided by PJ Haggerty putting that the game in the the
- 9:07referee's hands. It it's just it's, it can't be
- 9:13explained away and there's nothing that can explain this
- 9:15away. I mean, it is very, it's kind of
- 9:23funny, right? Like because we had an 18 point
- 9:28lead in the game, but everybody was like, oh, we're going to
- 9:31lose. And then we did lose obviously,
- 9:36but it was yet another game of like the just end of game
- 9:42coaching and player decisions. Just I mean, what the stat, what
- 9:50we had a 5 point lead with a minute and 20 seconds to go and
- 9:53we didn't take a shot up the rest of the game.
- 9:56Like egregious. That's really bad.
- 9:59It's really, really bad. Yeah.
- 10:05You know, we're 2 1/2 point underdog tomorrow night against
- 10:08old Jizzle James in Cincinnati. Your your your boy at
- 10:14Cincinnati, Chef I. Mean and Wes Miller is fight
- 10:18he's still the coach right of Cincinnati.
- 10:21I mean, he's still fighting for, he's fighting for his job.
- 10:24And he's like on the total, the total opposite spectrum of where
- 10:30Jerome Tang is. Jerome Tang's like deflecting,
- 10:32doing all this stuff. Wes Miller saying, hey, it's on
- 10:35me. I'm I'm I'm the problem, all
- 10:37this stuff. And they're going to come in,
- 10:39they're going to come into Bramlage and they're they're
- 10:42going to lay the smack down. I can just feel it in my bones.
- 10:45It's yeah. But they'll never beat the
- 10:50accusations of just bad coaching.
- 10:55I mean, it's just it's rampant. It is literally rampant.
- 10:59I mean, the the we've went over this in prior episodes, the
- 11:03building of this team. They are a jump shooting team
- 11:08that with no physical capability inside.
- 11:11And that's why I'm people are, you know, bashing the referee
- 11:16saying, oh, the foul discrepancy and all this stuff.
- 11:19We don't play that style of ball at all.
- 11:22We don't live in that. We don't live that life at all.
- 11:26There's nothing physical about this team and it's it's showing.
- 11:31I mean, yeah, you could build an 18 point lead everybody if
- 11:36you're hot from three. That is not that's not out of
- 11:40the realm of possibility versus any team really.
- 11:44But can you sustain it? And the answer is if you don't
- 11:47have physicality, if you don't have the interior positions to
- 11:52stop just rebounds, I mean offensive rebounds is I would
- 11:58love to see what the the most the discrepancy between any team
- 12:05in Kansas State history being out rebounded.
- 12:08Have we out rebounded anybody this season?
- 12:14I mean maybe 3 or. Four times, maybe 3 or 4.
- 12:17Times like I mean, not the not the games where we're winning
- 12:20100 and 100 and nothing basically versus the worst of
- 12:24the worst basketball teams in the country, but versus a team
- 12:29with a pulse. Have we out rebounded any of
- 12:31them? I can't believe that we have a.
- 12:35Team with a pulse, I want to say we out rebounded West Virginia
- 12:41and we did. West Virginia, Which game was
- 12:45that? We got there, rebounded West
- 12:48Virginia and the loss. We lost.
- 12:52That's all you really need to know.
- 12:56It's, it's, it's inexplicable. And the way that that game
- 12:59played out, I mean, you were up 18 points in the first half,
- 13:03Obviously that that dwindled down to what, like 5 halftime
- 13:06for halftime and you just get outplayed for majority of the of
- 13:12the game at the end. It's just like, how do you even
- 13:15build that kind of lead and just let it completely dwindle?
- 13:18And we all thought it was going to happen.
- 13:20We're all sitting there like, all right, here we go.
- 13:22Then the league gets down to like 13 and 11:00 and 9:00 and
- 13:277:00 and 5:00 and it's just OK, here we go.
- 13:32And to the point like, yes, people can talk about the
- 13:35officiating, but good teams overcome bad officiating.
- 13:37I will die on that hill. There are exceptions where in
- 13:40the past there's certain scenarios where there have been
- 13:44calls that have indicated or dictated the outcome of the
- 13:47game. But nine times out of 10, good
- 13:49teams are going to overcome bad officiating.
- 13:51This is not a good team. This is not a team that can
- 13:54overcome bad officiating. They don't have the coaching,
- 13:57they don't have the guts, they don't have any of it.
- 13:59They don't have the basketball IQ.
- 14:01The the inbounds plays to to Nate and to PJ and PJ try to
- 14:07draw a foul at the end of the game.
- 14:09Just it's the same thing over and over and over again.
- 14:13We're just seeing the same thing.
- 14:14We've seen play out multiple other losses.
- 14:17It had shades of the Cal game from earlier this season when
- 14:20they blew that huge lead. It's just it's just, I mean, it
- 14:24is funny, Matt, you bring up the that it's, there's humor to it.
- 14:28I mean, I'm just sitting there laughing the whole time.
- 14:30It's if you're not hammering the money line when K State gets up
- 14:34that big, then you're you're making a mistake.
- 14:37We're we're going to beat Cincinnati tomorrow.
- 14:41Wrong. But I mean, Bob, you've got a
- 14:45point. I mean, good teams do find a way
- 14:48and good teams, they see the flow of the game.
- 14:52We had a referee, I don't remember what the referee's name
- 14:55is. I don't sure.
- 14:56I'm sure he didn't put his name out there.
- 14:57But the we had a referee on the podcast and he's explaining how
- 15:02psychologically referees are going to call these games if
- 15:05they're calling it and the team, the other team that's getting
- 15:09slighted, maybe start playing similar style basketball to what
- 15:13the what the referees are calling.
- 15:15Like you shooting jump shots and fade away jumpers.
- 15:19You're not going to get a call for that.
- 15:21There's zero chance you're not going to get a call 3/4 down the
- 15:24court on a pull through. That's not happening in college
- 15:29basketball. There's zero percent chance
- 15:31that's going to happen. It's, it's laughable that
- 15:34there's no reins on this team on how they play, how they function
- 15:39on the court. It is, it is funny.
- 15:41It is very funny, man. It's you just you got to laugh
- 15:46sometimes, right? It's fun to laugh when you have
- 15:50nothing to play for. House money, whatever.
- 15:55They're going to win tomorrow. I think they're going to win
- 16:00tomorrow and that's that. But you know what's think of the
- 16:08positives? PJ Haggerty, He was He's on the
- 16:14late season Wooden Award. Wooden list.
- 16:20John Wooden. Wooden Award Wooden.
- 16:23I don't know, Tomato. Tomato.
- 16:26Wooden, wooden. Wooden.
- 16:29The top 20 player in the country, which meaningly like
- 16:33statistically it makes sense and that's a lot of it's
- 16:39statistically not about your basketball like you, but do.
- 16:42They have do they have a collegiate like basketball
- 16:46efficiency numbers? Plus minus.
- 16:50They've got like plus minus. No, I mean like like effective
- 16:53field goal percentage and all that stuff.
- 16:55Like you know what the like the? I'm sure, I'm sure on chem pond
- 16:58they do, but I'm too poor for that.
- 17:01Yeah, or Evan Evan Miyakawa or. I would love to know what like
- 17:05what Haggerty's like efficiency numbers are, Cuz I mean, it's,
- 17:08it's just, he just can't be that efficient.
- 17:11He turns the ball over so much. It seems like he turned the ball
- 17:14over so much. Maybe I'm, maybe I'm just, maybe
- 17:16I'm just trying to find somebody to stick it to.
- 17:19Yes, 43.5 S 4 turnovers a game. OK, there's no way he's
- 17:26averaging over 4 assists a game. He's averaging 4.2 assists per
- 17:30game. So he's a one and one player.
- 17:36I think the thing with it, here's the thing with it, I
- 17:40think his turnovers are more pronounced because of the timing
- 17:45that they. Occur Yeah, yeah, I get yeah, I
- 17:48know exactly what you're saying. Like it's like he doesn't the
- 17:51first few moments of that game, like he doesn't touch the ball,
- 17:56like he's he's not even like involved.
- 17:58And then for some reason, like we just clamor around him and
- 18:04it's just the total opposite of why we had a 10 point lead, why
- 18:08we had an 18 point lead, why we had any kind of lead in that
- 18:10game throughout the game. And we just totally flip it and
- 18:14say, you know what? I sew every play and that shit
- 18:19does not work. And and like some of the shots
- 18:23that he does attempt are shots, but they could might as well be
- 18:28turnovers with some of the shots that he takes from a decision
- 18:33making perspective. But I mean, I it's unfortunate
- 18:37because I would love to have him paired with like.
- 18:43An actual point guard. Yeah, or or.
- 18:47Thing about it is he's so he's so dribble heavy.
- 18:51I guess it it doesn't matter. I mean, he's literally he he
- 18:56doesn't shoot. I mean, he shot the ball all
- 18:58right versus TCU, he made a couple good splash threes, but
- 19:04normally it's he's very good at off the ball screens, getting to
- 19:09the lane and making a center make a decision.
- 19:13We don't have a center that I mean McGriff finishes very, very
- 19:18well, but he is not an above the rim player.
- 19:25I mean, I mean, Bashir would be nice to have with him.
- 19:28I like when Bashir was out there because he is a, you know, a
- 19:32shooter shooter and if he could get the ball out to Bashir, it
- 19:36was normally going in and that helps a lot.
- 19:38It's just bad. I mean, when you got Taj Manning
- 19:42rolling on your screens, it's not great.
- 19:47I've I've got to give some credit to the KSO guys.
- 19:49They were saying Drew Galloway and KSU fan and Mason both they
- 19:52were saying on the post game, something along the lines of PJ
- 19:56Haggerty. When they do that switch up,
- 19:58when they say like, hey, PJ, you're you're playing point
- 20:00guard like in the final four minutes of the game.
- 20:03When did when did things collapse for K State was in the
- 20:05final four-game. And and it's almost it.
- 20:08It's not. I'm not going to compare it to
- 20:11Tyler Perry necessarily, but Tyler Perry was a guy who was
- 20:14kind of forced to play out of position.
- 20:16When you force PJ to play out of position like things just don't
- 20:19work on the team. The way that it does during
- 20:22other portions of the game, which again, that comes back to
- 20:25coaching and and game planning. And it doesn't see it's happened
- 20:30in multiple games. That happened in the KU game
- 20:31too. Like it's not the first time
- 20:33that it's happened. And again, it's just this
- 20:36definition of insanity of like repeating the same thing over
- 20:39and over again and expecting a different result.
- 20:41And it's just PJ is a walking bucket a lot of the time.
- 20:45But at the same time, if he's playing out of position, things
- 20:47are dysfunctional in other areas of the court offensively, it
- 20:51just doesn't doesn't compute. And I would like to hear you
- 20:54guys opinion on this too, because maybe in my head I'm I'm
- 20:58looking at it the wrong way. But obviously in the last four
- 21:01minutes, that's kind of like where the coach is trusting the
- 21:05players on the court to make the right decisions.
- 21:08And you PJ has the right intentions, but he's not going
- 21:13to get those calls. One, he's not going to, he's
- 21:17looking to score the ball and he's not facilitating when
- 21:21people are obviously keen in on him.
- 21:23And you would hope that you would get somebody like a David
- 21:26Castillo to do that and take some relief off the PJ and maybe
- 21:31ball movement into PJ doing some of that stuff.
- 21:34But you can't trust David Castillo either.
- 21:37He is. He has multiple occasions where
- 21:40he just shoots the ball so fast and moments where we're needing
- 21:45to drain the clock and he can't. David Castillo can't play
- 21:49defense, unfortunately without fouling.
- 21:54So he can't be in charge of the point guard position in these
- 21:59clutch position in these crunch time moments.
- 22:02So it has to fall to PJ because you can't give it to CJ.
- 22:06Nate, I like Nate, but he's not a point guard at all.
- 22:10And he probably, I don't know, I think Nate needs the ball more
- 22:16in these late game situations. But I I don't know what the
- 22:19answer is because we tried to give Nate the ball and he
- 22:23dribbled it off his leg. There is no answer the the the
- 22:27season's over. Oh, well, yeah, yeah, yeah, for
- 22:30sure. But I mean, I, I mean, I'm just
- 22:33trying to see if there was a remedy at all and I I don't see
- 22:37it. I guess you.
- 22:38Don't see it? You don't see it no, I I
- 22:41actually thought the offense flowed better with nada point
- 22:46guard in that game. I I and you know, but it's just
- 22:54when you get towards the end, it's a struggle.
- 22:56Let's let's give it up for Marcus Johnson, though.
- 22:59Let's give him some props. Let's give him some props.
- 23:05He had to play a lot of minutes. He had to play a lot of minutes
- 23:08in this game and he took some shots in this game that you are
- 23:13just like what in the world? And I mean, I I I was I was very
- 23:20impressed with his performance because he he is for his body.
- 23:29It's it's just like AI don't know the position.
- 23:35The position of his game just doesn't work right.
- 23:38Like if he, I mean, he's I if, if he was somebody who let's
- 23:43say, let's say it was £200, he he's a guy you bring off the
- 23:49bench to make threes. Like he's a a shooter, but out
- 23:54there he's an absolute defensive like problem.
- 23:59And but in this game for what you know, with the sickness
- 24:04that's going around all this and that I really was very impressed
- 24:09with like his effort, not just on the offensive side and, you
- 24:14know, with however many games to go, what, seven games to go,
- 24:19eight games to go. Not not that I'm asking to see
- 24:23like Marcus Johnson play 20 minutes a game, but I liked his
- 24:27effort when he was out there and it was something that this team
- 24:32really needed. So I have to give him like we
- 24:35got to give him some props, right?
- 24:37Yeah, my, my thinking watching his game, because, I mean, this
- 24:41is really kind of the first. He's been getting extended
- 24:44minutes, but this is kind of the first time that he's like, I
- 24:48feel like he was more comfortable in the game.
- 24:50And it wasn't like he wasn't there just to mess up.
- 24:52He's like, I'm just going to take the shot and his shot
- 24:56looked comfortable. What I I thought when watching
- 25:00his game is that he is the bizarro Anthony Davis.
- 25:07Mind you, Anthony Davis before he grew to 7 foot tall was like
- 25:11a point guard, like like A2 guard that was.
- 25:13And then he tried to learn. He tried to learn his body.
- 25:17I had AI have a theory that Marcus Johnson was probably this
- 25:20size for a long stretch of his life.
- 25:23And then he learned how to like play point guard after and like
- 25:28play get the skill positions after.
- 25:30So he's like, I, I don't know how to do anything outside of
- 25:35the, the dribbling. Like he's not strong, he's just
- 25:39big and he, but he can, he can do everything, but he's just
- 25:44not, doesn't have a position. He doesn't have a position.
- 25:48He doesn't. He does not have a position that
- 25:51you're absolutely right about that.
- 25:53Yeah, because he's he's Yeah, he's just not.
- 25:58That's why I said he's bizarre. Anthony Davis.
- 26:00Anthony Davis can kind of like do a lot of stuff.
- 26:03Obviously he's not playing point guard, but he's like he can
- 26:06guard every position. He's probably one of the better
- 26:07defenders of all time and he has an incredible skill.
- 26:12He could shoot it, block, rebound, all that stuff.
- 26:16Marcus Johnson can't do any of that except for score of the
- 26:20basketball. I, you know, I will say this,
- 26:25I'm going to say this. You put him in the list of 30
- 26:29players we went through last week and I think A1 on one
- 26:32situation with Marcus Johnson. If you give him the like, if he
- 26:37only has to score the one basket, he doesn't have to get
- 26:40his top. He's.
- 26:43He's frying a lot of people. He might be like Farley
- 26:47Dickinson in that bracket. He's he beats Michael.
- 26:51Beasley that's another. That's another one.
- 26:53That's another David Castillo example.
- 26:57Marcus Johnson has hasn't missed the I don't think he's missed a
- 27:01three yet in this game at the at that point, David Castillo
- 27:05dribbles into the lane. Marcus Johnson's at the top of
- 27:07the key, just wide open. He doesn't pass the ball and he
- 27:11turns the ball over. It's it's little.
- 27:13Stuff like that. No.
- 27:15Basketball IQ? No looking out for your
- 27:18teammates. It's just frustrating.
- 27:21Let's talk football. Yeah, before we get to football
- 27:25mid pod ad, read Heartland Beef Connection.
- 27:28We're not talking about grocery store beef.
- 27:31Heartland Beef Connection connects Kansas and Midwest
- 27:33families directly with local ranchers.
- 27:36That means no middle men, no industrial processing, and no
- 27:40mass produced beef. A lot of these ranchers are
- 27:43located in Kansas and of course plenty of them are K Staters
- 27:46themselves. Same value, same work ethic,
- 27:48just doing it out on the land instead of on the indoor track,
- 27:53which means a lot to me as a cans and a 6th generation cans
- 27:57and myself. Paul, friend of the program,
- 27:59started Heartland Beef Connection to help support
- 28:01Midwest ranchers by matching them directly with families
- 28:05looking to buy a quarter, half and a whole beef shares.
- 28:07You know where your beef comes from, how was raised and who
- 28:10raised it. And I just have to say, as
- 28:12someone who has gone through the process of buy quarter beefs in
- 28:15the past, I created an entire spreadsheet.
- 28:18That was a lot of work and it was a ridiculous thing to have
- 28:21to do. That did like the hanging weight
- 28:23and the price per pound and all this ridiculous stuff just to
- 28:26figure out where the best deal was near me.
- 28:28This takes all of that out of the equation.
- 28:30You're not having to put together spreadsheets.
- 28:32You're not having to figure out all that crap yourself.
- 28:35Here's the part people don't expect, though.
- 28:37Not only does the beef taste better, it's actually cheaper
- 28:40per pound in grocery store beef when you buy direct, and so it's
- 28:44better quality, there's more transparency, and you're not
- 28:47paying for the middle man. So if you care about supporting
- 28:50Kansas AG, keeping money local, and eating beef that actually
- 28:53tastes the way beef should, this is it.
- 28:56Here's the best part, because you're listening to cocaine
- 28:59Will, you can get $25 off the Heartland beef connection match
- 29:03fee when you mention the podcast or use code CW25.
- 29:08That's code CW25. Check out Heartland beef
- 29:11connection at heartlandbeef.net. Real, real ranchers, better beef
- 29:17for your money. Football beef.
- 29:21Speaking of beef, K State beef, K State football has added some
- 29:25new staffers. The headliner here, couple of
- 29:28headliners, really. Tim De Reuter, former head coach
- 29:31at Fresno State, former defensive coordinator at Texas
- 29:34Tech Granted, I think I looked up, he had like 124th or
- 29:38something best defense in the country when he was at Texas
- 29:40Tech a couple of years ago, from 2022 to 2024.
- 29:45But I'm going to, I'm going to bury that for now.
- 29:48I just want to add some context. But he has been the defensive
- 29:52coordinator at Texas Tech, Oregon, Cal Air Force, Nevada,
- 29:58Ohio Navy, Ohio. I already said Ohio, 2 cents in
- 30:02Ohio. He's been in a lot of places.
- 30:04He's seen how the game has evolved over the last 40 years.
- 30:08It looks like he's been a coach for.
- 30:11So he's an experienced guy. He's a former head coach, he's
- 30:13an experienced defensive coordinator.
- 30:15Despite the success, or lack thereof, that he had it at his
- 30:19previous destinations, you're still giving a guy like Jordan
- 30:23Peterson, who's new to being a defensive coordinator at the
- 30:27Power 4 level. You're giving him another voice
- 30:30in the room. You're giving him another guy to
- 30:32bounce ideas off of, to run schemes by.
- 30:35A guy who's familiar with the lay of the land in the Big 12
- 30:38from his time at Texas Tech, and a guy who's been at high level
- 30:42programs like Texas A&M and and Oregon who's seen how things are
- 30:45run at that level as well. So I was pretty excited to see
- 30:50his name when I saw the tweet originally.
- 30:53I'm like, who's this old fart? And I didn't realize his
- 30:56history, his track record. I started looking through it and
- 30:59it's like, oh, OK, this seems like a good guy to have in the
- 31:02locker room. Seems like a good guy to have in
- 31:04the veneer complex to help out the staff of relatively younger
- 31:09guys who are newer in their careers in large part.
- 31:12Thoughts on the De Reuter edition specifically?
- 31:15And then we can talk about some of the other guys.
- 31:20Yeah. I mean, ultimately I think a guy
- 31:22who has a lot of experience like that is very important,
- 31:26especially with the new coaching staff.
- 31:28I think ultimately to be able to pick up somebody like him, kind
- 31:32of when you think about it late in the way you would consider
- 31:36the carousel process to help build your staff.
- 31:39I think it's a, a big win and you have a guy who just has
- 31:45years and years and years of experience.
- 31:48And I, I think especially with how Jordan Peterson is kind of
- 31:54building his defense and finding the right guys for that, having
- 31:58a set of eyes who has been in many different roles, you know,
- 32:03obviously a head coach, other, you know, defensive coordinator
- 32:06in the past, I think it's going to be a huge benefit.
- 32:10So I think Tim De Reuter is a a really good hire and and a good
- 32:16staff member to bring on to this group, especially just building
- 32:20this program. Bodies, bodies, bodies, yeah.
- 32:24I mean, the more bodies that you're bringing in there more
- 32:28minds, more like minds, you know, guys that have experience
- 32:33that can go into these meetings, that can go in mind you, you
- 32:37have 105 man roster that they're all needing a certain amount of
- 32:43attention, all need a certain amount of coaching because
- 32:46there's not really those guys that you're kind of just leaving
- 32:49alone and they're not, they're not the top of the depth chart.
- 32:52Everybody's kind of getting a little bit of love.
- 32:55If you've got a deep staff that could give every single player
- 32:59on the the field and you know, on the team attention and, and
- 33:04in meetings and in and just organization as a whole, the
- 33:09more minds that you have in there that can share insight
- 33:13onto like, like you were saying, Bob with scheme and and just
- 33:18practice habits at that. That is those are valuable
- 33:22things. I mean, just the amount the
- 33:24volume of staff is I I think it's jarring the amount of like
- 33:30full time staffers that we have on here already.
- 33:33Mind you, the quality it it's not going down either.
- 33:37These are not spring chickens. These are these are guys that
- 33:40are valuable that are that have experience.
- 33:43So I'm really in favor of this. You know, the titles.
- 33:49I don't know particularly what it means to be the assistant
- 33:53head coach of the defense. I don't know what that means,
- 33:57but I'm assuming with that title that he'll be helping out all
- 34:02that that amount of staff. And you could tell by when how
- 34:04they hired the guys that are like, you know, the main 10 or
- 34:08main 12 or however they're doing it.
- 34:11There are a lot of defensive back coaches.
- 34:14I wonder if he'll be even more of an asset to like a Buddy
- 34:18Wyatt of what's the I keep getting?
- 34:22I got to figure out this linebacker's linebacker coach's
- 34:25name. Nick Toe.
- 34:27Toe I want to say both. I've got Mason both on the brain
- 34:30that was a Mason both, but coach Toth.
- 34:34I mean, I think these are these are guys that can benefit from
- 34:38having just another voice in there just helping out the
- 34:42entire defensive staff. So yeah, I'm all in favor of
- 34:45this. I'm I'm glad it's changing to
- 34:48this and not so much under the the climbing way of doing it
- 34:51where it's kind of just every, I mean, it's just so much weight
- 34:55on just individual coaches that handle this entire large team.
- 35:00So I'm, I'm all in favor. This is the SEC, the Big Ten
- 35:03way. Let's let's evolve.
- 35:05Let's evolve. Yeah, and the guys that the the
- 35:10additional guys beyond just to Reuter who were added, you've
- 35:13got Armani Linton who had experience.
- 35:16He was assistant defensive backs and nickelbacks in Arkansas.
- 35:19So he's seen, you know, SEC style program.
- 35:23He went to Ole Miss. So he played he played at Ole
- 35:26Miss. He played in a couple bowl
- 35:28games, Sugar Bowl in 2015 with Ole Miss.
- 35:31So again, like guys who have seen kind of the big time, so to
- 35:35speak, you got South Carolina for Jordan Dove, who's coming in
- 35:39as gosh, defensive tackles. He's coming in to to help coach
- 35:43defensive tackles. So South Carolina's where where
- 35:46he came from as Aga defensive assistant there.
- 35:50And then you bring in Dimitri Emanuel, guy from Florida State.
- 35:53He was on that team that was snubbed by the CFP committee
- 35:57with Jordan Travis and 20, 23 yeah. 2023 I think was yeah,
- 36:03yeah, playing a couple bowl games at Florida State because
- 36:07of being an offensive analyst and defensive graduate assistant
- 36:10in his time at Florida State. So I, I think you know, some of
- 36:14these other guys, they're, they're relatively younger guys
- 36:17too. In addition to De Reuter being a
- 36:20guy, you bring in three younger guys too that, that maybe we'll
- 36:22connect a little bit more that with some of the players and
- 36:26stuff that that we're bringing into the program, guys that have
- 36:29played just recently as two years ago, three years ago now.
- 36:32So I'm excited about that. I think they're good additions.
- 36:36Couple of the other additions that I want to highlight.
- 36:38So we poached KU's director of recruiting for football, which,
- 36:44Matt, I'll let you tell the story of how we were tipped off
- 36:47about that. Oh.
- 36:49God. Well, somebody who is a big
- 36:55friend of the pod sent a message that said his father saw Greg,
- 37:03Sports cop, if I pronounce that correctly, Schwarzkopf with
- 37:10Taylor at kites with a recruit and let us know that we believe
- 37:19we took him and it was confirmed because apparently this guy's
- 37:24father knows Taylor. So easy peasy.
- 37:28You know, we knew this about a month ago before anybody else.
- 37:32It was it was about two or three weeks before it was announced
- 37:35Which. Was fun.
- 37:36We have the time stamps, we have the.
- 37:39We have the we have the time stamps.
- 37:41We got the scoop, but I love this.
- 37:43So I think this says a lot about the type of talent that clients
- 37:47able to bring in as a coach and and kind of maybe the cult of
- 37:51personality that he has, the type of the type of leader that
- 37:55he is and how well respected he is in coaching circles.
- 37:58He was effectively the Taylor brat of KU was was my
- 38:02understanding. And then we bring him in, Taylor
- 38:04Brat kind of gets a promotion in in a way as well.
- 38:08And and Greg's going to be reporting to him directly, but
- 38:11he was largely responsible for a lot.
- 38:13I mean, under Lance Leipold, KU's recruiting has has been
- 38:17significantly better than it was in prior years.
- 38:20I know it kind of went uphill a little bit with with Les Miles
- 38:23is from a recruiting perspective.
- 38:25Obviously didn't translate to on the field success.
- 38:27But yeah, I'm stoked about this. Like I saw this, it was like,
- 38:33wait, we stole their director of recruiting?
- 38:36No way. So I I think that says a lot
- 38:39about coach Klein says a lot about Taylor Brat too, that how
- 38:42well respected those guys are that a guy would leave, you
- 38:47know, essentially the same role at KU, leave to go report to
- 38:50someone else at K State as as director of recruiting.
- 38:54I I think it says a lot about Taylor Brat, Coach Klein, the
- 38:58program that we're building here at K State.
- 38:59So pretty, pretty stoked about that.
- 39:01Any other any other thoughts? Yeah, I think it's, I think it's
- 39:05huge. I think this is more, I think
- 39:09he's more of the football kind of guy, the football evaluation
- 39:13kind of guy, more leaning into what the coaching staff needs.
- 39:17And he's that middle man between, you know, Trey Scott
- 39:21and the coaching staff. Not that Taylor Bratt wasn't
- 39:24that guy, but he was definitely always more of the relationship
- 39:28guy in my head. He was always the guy that could
- 39:30connect with the players that can that that can bridge the gap
- 39:35to getting them from high school into and growing them into
- 39:38adults and being on a football team at the Division One or the
- 39:41Power 4 level. And this guy coming in, I think
- 39:46the camps are going to the camps that we run are going to be more
- 39:50professional more. He's going to be evaluating more
- 39:54of the talent there and bringing guys to camp that you know,
- 39:59might have higher upsides. And I think it's just it's
- 40:02overall great because now Taylor on the road more going to high
- 40:07schools that he wasn't able to do before.
- 40:10What I think because a lot of the staff, I can't remember the
- 40:13amount of coaching staff that you can have on the road at one
- 40:17time or. During the seat.
- 40:20Maybe it's 10 something along those lines.
- 40:22But now that he's able to get out on the road more, you're
- 40:25seeing him in the the the Twitter photos, the X photos
- 40:30where he's he's with the high school students, he's with the
- 40:34coaching Staffs in the high school ranks and he's building
- 40:38those relationships and and doing what he does being Taylor
- 40:41brat. So I think that it's beneficial
- 40:45for everybody and I think, you know, when you could steal
- 40:49somebody from your rival in state, that is just an added
- 40:52bonus. Absolutely.
- 40:56Last thing I've got, first commit of the 2027 class has
- 41:00come in. He's committed.
- 41:01His name is Nazir Pitchford, Pitchford, Pitchford.
- 41:06He's a cornerback and I'm just going to say athlete, I guess.
- 41:09He plays both sides of the ball. Nazir Nazir Pitchford.
- 41:13Yeah, I'm, I'm totally butchering that.
- 41:15But quarterback athlete out of Palmetto, FL.
- 41:19If you want the full kind of scouting report on him, pop over
- 41:23to K State online, pop over to the Boscos boys that dropped
- 41:26this week. Scott does a great job breaking
- 41:28down what he's all about, but pretty exciting to at least see
- 41:32the first commit come in. Always good to see it come from,
- 41:36you know, recruiting rich, very fertile soil down there in
- 41:39Florida from a recruiting perspective.
- 41:41So yeah, a guy that you're competing against, maybe not the
- 41:46best offer sheet a couple of other Big 12 teams, but you
- 41:49know, the American with USF and stuff.
- 41:51But you at UCF was in there. But it's just exciting to see
- 41:56you start to see the ball rolling on some of the commits
- 41:58for 2027. There's a lot of other guys that
- 42:00are out there keeping my eyes on on quarterback, keeping my eyes
- 42:04on a certain player that may or may not be related to me out of
- 42:07Great Bend, KS, some good, good talent in the 2027 class.
- 42:12Last thing, indoor track and field inside ranked first in the
- 42:17country, 14th in women's as of the poll today.
- 42:20There's a meet coming up this weekend in Fayetteville, AR, the
- 42:23Tyson Invitational, which is available on SEC Network Plus,
- 42:28which none of us have. I think I have it maybe.
- 42:33I don't know. Think ESPN Plus.
- 42:36If it's part of ESPN Plus, tune in TuneIn.
- 42:41TuneIn not. A big track guy myself.
- 42:43Oh shit, really? Yeah, I mean it's.
- 42:46Just not even the Olympics. Olympics.
- 42:48I'll do the Olympics, but you know, just, you know, like even
- 42:54the Olympics, the distance running, not not a fan, not a
- 42:58fan. Of that distance, running is
- 42:59boring. It's a.
- 43:01Little boring. OK, here we go.
- 43:02I. Like a good sprinter, I like a
- 43:04good high jump. Long jump is fun.
- 43:07Are you a Summer or Winter Olympics?
- 43:11Summer. I mean, it's not close.
- 43:14I love them both. I'm just, I'm a big hockey guy.
- 43:18I'm just a huge. I love the Olympic summer.
- 43:21Winter put this in, put this into perspective for me.
- 43:24Lindsey Vonn going down that hill with a blown ACL.
- 43:29Is that impressive or is like, I don't imagine it is, but I mean
- 43:34like it's. Impressive that she tried.
- 43:36She didn't have a freaking ACL and you're going, she's going 70
- 43:40miles an hour down that ski slope.
- 43:42Like with, with your imagine doing that with your knees, 70
- 43:46miles an hour. Like there's not really anything
- 43:48that compares to that feeling. If you've ever skied, you'll
- 43:50know If you haven't skied, I don't know what to compare it
- 43:53to. I don't know what to compare it
- 43:55to. Is it like?
- 43:56Roller skating really fast. At 70 miles an.
- 43:59Hour. That would be like.
- 44:00Speed skating. Speed skating?
- 44:03Yeah, never did that either. But no Lindsey Vonn, props to
- 44:07her. I, I was worried that it would
- 44:09end this way and that she would, you know, have to bow out and
- 44:12ends up having to get surgery, surgery and it's.
- 44:16Just going out on your shield though, going out on your shield
- 44:19is the way to do it. But here's the deal.
- 44:22We ended up winning that race anyway.
- 44:23We we won that Team USA anyway because Breezy Johnson came in
- 44:27first. Yeah, big Olympics guy women's
- 44:30hockey today, beat Canada 5. Nothing in a, in a that win.
- 44:34So that's Canada has won five of the last 8 Winter Olympics gold
- 44:39and they've won silver in two of the last 8 Olympics.
- 44:44So that that's a huge win for Team USA men's hockey starts on
- 44:49February 12th, so stay tuned for that.
- 44:51I'll watch. Very excited, Very excited to.
- 44:53See are there, are there NHL guys in this?
- 44:56Yes, yes there are. This happens.
- 44:59It's 2014. They they went on a break for
- 45:02the Olympics. Three-week break.
- 45:04Seriously. I didn't know that.
- 45:07Yeah. Yeah, you got a lot.
- 45:08You got a lot to learn, Chef. Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid,
- 45:12Nathan McKinnon all playing on the same team.
- 45:14And then on the USA side, you got the Kachuk brothers coming
- 45:17back in like 4 nations last year.
- 45:20Yeah, it's going to be fine. Jeremy Swayman, of course.
- 45:23Jeremy Swayman. Connor Hammelbach.
- 45:25Charlie McAvoy, we've. Got honestly. 3 for yes,
- 45:30Mcdavid's playing for Team Candle.
- 45:31Honestly, three of the best goalies play for Team USA
- 45:34Ottinger, Hellebuck and Swayman. Yeah, wow, this has this has
- 45:38gone off the rails. I can talk puck all day.
- 45:42I I know unfortunately so. If you want more, hey, if you
- 45:48want more Olympic commentary, follow me on Twitter.
- 45:52That's going to do it for us today.
- 45:53Any final thoughts gentlemen, before we get out of here?
- 45:56Yeah, one final thought. So yesterday we had the first
- 46:01release of old K State Games that I found on a flash drive or
- 46:08hard drive from many, many moons ago.
- 46:12First release was the 2010 Texas game at home for men's
- 46:16basketball. Great, great game.
- 46:20Realized how bad Bobby Knight was as a commentator.
- 46:27Holy crap, he was so bad. Very lucky to have Fran
- 46:30Fruschila. But anyway, we're going to be
- 46:32releasing these. I'm going to have, we're going
- 46:36to put a poll up for the next game, which we'll release here
- 46:40in a couple weeks from now. And then when we get into the
- 46:42summer, we'll have a weekly football game release.
- 46:49Are we going to? Commentate over any of these.
- 46:51Or what we we can some. Retro replays.
- 46:54We could. We could.
- 46:55Do a retro replay on these. Absolutely.
- 46:59I kind of just want to comment on the commercials.
- 47:02Yeah, they do have commercials, but that's the fun of it, you
- 47:08know, seeing like the UPS whiteboard commercial, I forgot
- 47:11that was a thing. But yeah, so we'll be kind of
- 47:18releasing these on our YouTube. So give it a give it a watch.
- 47:23Give us a follow, give us a subscribe If you're watching the
- 47:26videos like them as well comment We we love seeing your comments
- 47:29on there. Brett Musburger was also the
- 47:31lead, the lead analyst for that guy doing the doing the call on
- 47:35TV. So that was kind of fun because
- 47:37I'm like, I know this voice, but I did not remember him doing
- 47:40basketball games, but I guess he did.
- 47:43Yeah, with Bobby Knight, but he. Did.
- 47:46All right, so that's going to do it for us today.
