- 0:12Hello friends, it is Sean. Here it is Monday.
- 0:15It is the 4th of September and welcome to a whole new week.
- 0:19It is so good that you have joined me so that you and I can,
- 0:23on this chapter a day Bible reading podcast, continue to
- 0:27read through God's Word a chapter each day.
- 0:31And for those of you who are super astute and keeping up day
- 0:36by day, chapter by chapter, you may have noticed that I made a
- 0:40bit of a Boo Boo that I only worked out now as I sat down to
- 0:45read chapter 33 of Isaiah and realized that instead of reading
- 0:48chapter 32 on Thursday last week, I read chapter 33 and
- 0:53missed chapter 32. There you go.
- 0:56In almost three years, it's the first time I've completely
- 0:59missed a chapter and not even realized until the following
- 1:02week. So bully for me, right?
- 1:04But at least I worked it out. Now when I say I worked it out
- 1:07now, I actually got halfway through reading 33 thinking this
- 1:10sounds very, very similar to a recent chapter.
- 1:13My goodness, Isaiah is getting repetitive in his old age, but
- 1:17it turns out it's me getting forgetful in my old age.
- 1:21Well, 44 old age. Yeah, that that's old enough.
- 1:25I'll. I'll claim it.
- 1:26So, no, today we will go back and read chapter 32, which is
- 1:31actually a beautiful chapter. And it's a shame that we didn't
- 1:33read it last week, because it's wonderful.
- 1:36This is a chapter where Isaiah paints a picture of what society
- 1:41will look like when Israel is ultimately delivered and
- 1:45restored by God's goodness. And this is one day in the
- 1:48future. This is what life will look
- 1:50like. So continue to trust in God.
- 1:54So there's something in that for all of us.
- 1:56So why don't you and I enjoy this together as we get a
- 1:59glimpse of what a restored land looks like under God's care as
- 2:04we read together. Actually Isaiah chapter 32.
- 2:19Look, a righteous king is coming and honest Princess will rule
- 2:25under him. Each one will be like a shelter
- 2:29from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water
- 2:33in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a parched land.
- 2:39Then everyone who has eyes will be able to see the truth, and
- 2:43everyone who has ears will be able to hear it.
- 2:47Even the hot heads will be full of sense and understanding.
- 2:51Those who stammer will speak out plainly in that day.
- 2:55Ungodly fools will not be heroes.
- 2:59Scoundrels will not be respected, for fools speak
- 3:02foolishness and make evil plans. They practice ungodliness and
- 3:07spread false teachings about the Lord.
- 3:10They deprive the hungry of food and give no water to the
- 3:13thirsty. The smooth tricks of scoundrels
- 3:16are evil. They plot crooked schemes.
- 3:19They lie to convict the poor, even when the cause of the poor
- 3:23is just The generous. People plan to do what is
- 3:28generous, and they stand firm in their generosity.
- 3:32Listen, you women who lie around in ease.
- 3:36Listen to me, you who are so smug.
- 3:38In a short time, just a little more than a year, you careless
- 3:43ones will suddenly begin to care for your fruit.
- 3:47Crops will fail and the harvest will never take place.
- 3:51Tremble you women of ease. Throw off your complacency,
- 3:56strip off your pretty clothes and put on burlap to show your
- 4:00grief. Beat your breasts in sorrow for
- 4:04your bountiful farms and your beautiful grapevines, for your
- 4:08land will be overgrown with thorns and briars.
- 4:12Your joyful homes and happy towns will be gone.
- 4:16The palace and the city will be deserted, and busy towns will be
- 4:20empty. Wild donkeys will frolic, and
- 4:24flocks will graze in the empty forts and watchtowers, until at
- 4:28last the spirit is poured out on us from heaven.
- 4:33Then the wilderness will become a fertile field, and the fertile
- 4:39field will yield bountiful crops.
- 4:43Justice will rule in the wilderness and righteousness in
- 4:47the fertile field. And this righteousness will
- 4:51bring peace. Yes, it will bring quietness and
- 4:56confidence forever. My people will live in safety
- 5:01quietly at home. They will be at rest.
- 5:05Even if the forest should be destroyed and the city torn
- 5:09down, the Lord will greatly bless his people wherever they
- 5:14plant seed. Bountiful crops will spring up
- 5:18their cattle and donkeys will graze freely.
- 5:32Lord, thank you for those times of blessing.
- 5:37Thank you for the good gifts that you have for us, the
- 5:40thousand things that you will bless us with today that we
- 5:43might not even notice or see. But there you are, a God who
- 5:48blesses. Thank you for the lives that
- 5:52you've given us, those that we love and who love us, the things
- 5:57that we get to do that make a difference in this world, and
- 6:02the joy that you grow inside of us every day.
- 6:07For the birds, for the sky, for the greenery.
- 6:12We just thank you for so many wonderful things.
- 6:17And we pray that the greatest gift that you've given us, the
- 6:22love that you've given us in Jesus, that we could just
- 6:25overflow with that love and share it with the people that we
- 6:29spend today with. We thank you for these gifts and
- 6:34we pray that they would shape us to be gift givers in our
- 6:38context. And we just pray all of this in
- 6:43the name of your greatest gift, Jesus.
- 6:48Amen.
