- 0:18I'm Jessica and this is Teba K Rambles, where a couple of
- 0:21friends review Korean dramas and we are back to review tomorrow.
- 0:27For this episode, I am joined by Pam from at Pam Dramaholic on
- 0:31Instagram. Pam, how are you today?
- 0:33Hey, Jazz, I'm fine. How about you?
- 0:36I'm doing well. We were talking extensively
- 0:38before we got on about theme parks and my really disastrous
- 0:43Disneyland Paris outing that I had like over 10 years ago and
- 0:47how you live in Germany and how I had German food today, which
- 0:51is highly unusual. I never have German food.
- 0:54We went out of our way to have delicious German food today and
- 0:56you were like, wow, that's amazing.
- 0:59So I just think if you don't know Pam on Instagram, you are a
- 1:05delight. I love interacting with you on
- 1:07Instagram, which is the whole reason why I thought it would be
- 1:10fun to bring you on Tabak and talk about tomorrow.
- 1:14You were originally cooking dramas, cooking under score
- 1:17dramas on Instagram because you love to cook recipes that were
- 1:24inspired by K dramas. So I think you've kind of moved
- 1:27a little bit away from that, but you still do like a lot of that.
- 1:30Yeah, look, if you'd watch Asian dramas, right?
- 1:34Food is always important. It doesn't matter if someone is
- 1:36sick, if someone is in love, food will always be the main
- 1:39topic at some point. So I thought it would be like a
- 1:42perfect combination. But you know, yeah, that's a lot
- 1:45of work. I did a few videos and then I
- 1:49realized that, Oh my God, I need not only time, but you have only
- 1:52one take. Like I messed up a few recipes
- 1:55while recording or I messed up the audio and that was horrible
- 2:01because then you have to redo everything.
- 2:03So I was like, maybe it's time to change a little bit.
- 2:06I'm still drama obsessed. I love food and I will every now
- 2:10and then still make some amazing recipes because I just love
- 2:14cooking Asian food from scratch. So I try to do it from scratch
- 2:17as much as possible. But let's focus on the drama a
- 2:21little bit more than on the food.
- 2:22So maybe I will go to ramen and you know, so true, that should
- 2:27be fine. That's not a problem with me.
- 2:29I love ramen. So for those who are not
- 2:32familiar with your page or or haven't aren't, are just not
- 2:36familiar with how you got started in in K dramas, why
- 2:39don't you give us a little bit more info about yourself, how
- 2:43you got started? What were your first K dramas?
- 2:45Maybe what are your favorite genres?
- 2:47And just a little bit. I know sometimes you watch a lot
- 2:50of stuff, but what are you currently watching?
- 2:54Oh wow a big question. Like if you don't follow me you
- 2:58probably don't know my currently watching list is longer than my
- 3:01watch list probably at this point.
- 3:03So to be honest I started K dramas because of a friend of
- 3:07mine. Like she loves K pop and K
- 3:09dramas and I told her like, I want to watch something similar
- 3:12to telenovelas. I just miss I'm resilient, so I
- 3:15really miss that feeling. And then she said, why don't you
- 3:19start watching K dramas? And my first K drama was
- 3:22extraordinary. You so kind of fitting for.
- 3:25Today that is intertwining especially well with today
- 3:30because obviously. Everything is.
- 3:32Yeah, Fate. It's fate.
- 3:34It's faded. And I think I fell in love
- 3:39because I felt like Extraordinary You was explaining
- 3:42me a little bit of the world of K dramas.
- 3:45It did explain to me a lot. So before I even started
- 3:47watching K dramas, I kind of knew how it works in a way
- 3:51because my friend was always talking about it.
- 3:53And Extraordinary You was just perfect for me, at least as the
- 3:56first K drama, you know, not too heavy on the everything else
- 3:59that I know, like bullying or whatever.
- 4:02Just a simple, cute kind of K drama.
- 4:05And I mean, I did fall in love with Horan at this point, so.
- 4:11And then I was just mainly following her suggestions.
- 4:15So of course I watch Strong Woman, Du Bong Soon and then
- 4:19Crush Landing on You, and they are my favorites.
- 4:22Kind of like it's really hard for me to pick one.
- 4:26But those two other ones, that would be like, OK, if I had to
- 4:28rewatch, I would. They were funny, they were cute,
- 4:31They just entertained me. And yeah, well, you can see that
- 4:36I do love my ROM coms, right? Romantic comedies will always be
- 4:39my favorites. I love giggling and just being
- 4:43happy that people are falling in love in real life.
- 4:46I'm not that romantic. So perfect.
- 4:49I can be fake romantic with the dramas, but sometimes when I
- 4:53watch too many romantic scenes, I'm like, OK, I need a break.
- 4:56It's too much now because it's not happening in my life, so I
- 4:59don't want to see it anymore. So I then just like actually to
- 5:03watch a lot of horror and action.
- 5:06I do love that and fantasy elements are always a fun thing
- 5:09to have for me. I like that.
- 5:12What are you currently watching? I think I know the answer to
- 5:16this because. Look.
- 5:19I follow you, so yeah. I mean, my current obsession is
- 5:24definitely AC drama, not AK drama at the moment right?
- 5:27Oh well, it's the double. I guess we have to say that Pam
- 5:32loves to watch see dramas as well.
- 5:34And so we bonded a lot over our love for see drama actors and
- 5:40she would send me a lot of like photos of see drama actors and
- 5:46tag me in things just, you know, because we're friends.
- 5:50So friends share. Putting a smile on friends face
- 5:54is always my pleasure. Yes.
- 5:56So your obsession currently is. Current obsession, definitely
- 6:01the double like this is drama. You'll hear a lot about it
- 6:05because final episodes are coming out and I cannot shut up
- 6:08with it. But I'm also watching 2 kid
- 6:10romas, believe it or not. Finally I found two that kind of
- 6:13entertaining. They are.
- 6:16Wait, what's the name again? Miss night and day, You know,
- 6:19another fantasy kind of ROM com thriller action.
- 6:23I think we will have everything in this one.
- 6:26And my sweet mobster on vacuum. Uh huh.
- 6:30Yeah, so I think I'm just watching them because I need
- 6:33something entertaining because the angsty part of the double is
- 6:37coming and I cannot deal with it in a halfway like a normal
- 6:40person usually so. Yeah, I am excited to press play
- 6:45on the double eventually. I am definitely going to press
- 6:48play pretty soon because it's ending finally and I hate
- 6:52waiting for episodes. And also I just can't keep up
- 6:55with the release schedule of AC drama.
- 6:57I just can't. That's true.
- 6:59I heard from Liliana that they released a fast pass for the
- 7:03double. She was obviously going to get
- 7:06it. And I was like, that's how they
- 7:07get you, Liliana. They already got me a few weeks
- 7:13ago and I'm like, you know what, it was like €3 for me or
- 7:17whatever, you know, I can totally pay for that.
- 7:20I will do that for the double as well.
- 7:22I can't. Yeah.
- 7:23I'm horrible at waiting. I have no patience whatsoever.
- 7:25Yeah. So for those who are unfamiliar
- 7:27with C Drama Land, because you're listening to AK Drama
- 7:30review episode, some platforms like to release the episode, the
- 7:37finale episodes early. They are available early, but
- 7:42you have to pay for them. They're behind a paywall.
- 7:47So it's the fast pass. Is this paywall?
- 7:50And it's very low paywall. Like as Pam said, it was like €3
- 7:55for her and she was like, I'm, I'm doing it like I just want to
- 7:59see the finale now. Yeah.
- 8:03And that's how they get you 'cause you're already paying for
- 8:06the platform. Yes, but also you cannot ever
- 8:09enter the Internet until you finish this drama, unless you
- 8:13already watched that, right, 'cause right now, just a few
- 8:15minutes ago, before we started recording, I saw a spoiler.
- 8:18I'm like, I'm not dealing with that.
- 8:20This is if this happens. If this is true, I'm going to be
- 8:23crying after we record this because I cannot wait.
- 8:27OK, yeah, well, as you know, for K dramas on Tabak, every review
- 8:34we do a non spoiler and spoiler section, so you will not have to
- 8:37worry about being spoiled for tomorrow.
- 8:40The K drama we're going to review today.
- 8:42But thank you so much for talking through your experience
- 8:47in Asian dramas, Pam and welcome to Tabak.
- 8:50I can't wait to talk about this drama.

- 9:42patrons. OK, so before we get into this
- 9:45episode, I do want to say that this episode comes with a large
- 9:49trigger warning. This episode and this show that
- 9:52we're going to be talking about has content related to suicide
- 9:56especially and sexual assault. A lot of heavy topics will be
- 10:01discussed and the show tomorrow just dives into these.
- 10:06So please be aware that we're going to be talking about
- 10:09suicide especially as well as sexual assault.
- 10:13So I'll get going on the Wikipedia synopsis because the
- 10:17other synopses were no good, just no good.
- 10:20So here we go. Trejun is a young job seeker who
- 10:25is unable to secure a job through an accident.
- 10:27He meets the grim weepers Kuriong and IMBR Young Gu, who
- 10:31have the task of preventing suicide, and works with them as
- 10:35the youngest contract worker in the crisis management team of
- 10:39Death Angels. So I was like, wow, Death Angels
- 10:43is the way that Wikipedia puts it.
- 10:44So Tomorrow aired in April, from April to May of 2022.
- 10:50So the show is 2 years old. It is 16 episodes long and it
- 10:55has a couple of directors. Kim Thee Yun is the first
- 10:59director. Obviously they've directed
- 11:03Tomorrow but that's the only K drama that they've directed.
- 11:07They are mostly a screenwriter and he's also directed some
- 11:12movies like Accrual, Attendance, Another Family, New Trial, Mr.
- 11:15Zoo, the The Missing, VIP and written a lot of those movies as
- 11:20well. The Co director is Sung Chiuk,
- 11:23he's directed DNA Lover and Kairos.
- 11:27These are recent dramas like I'm talking Kairos is 2020 and DNA
- 11:32Lover is 2020 should should be released this year 2024.
- 11:36So and that's it. That's all that this other
- 11:38director has done. Kind of feels like these
- 11:41directors were largely untested to me but especially in the K
- 11:48drama sphere. Like they are not really TV
- 11:51directors and then the writers are POC Ji Jung Cha Hyung and
- 11:59Kemujin is really weird because POC Jack Young is the is only
- 12:04listed on MDL. She's not listed as a writer on
- 12:10Asian wiki. Only Kemujin is listed as a
- 12:13writer on on wiki. It's strange, but this is their
- 12:17only screen credit ever, so they haven't.
- 12:22Like I'm not really familiar with all the directors and
- 12:24stuff, but that's incredible then.
- 12:26Yeah, like none of these people have a resume that we can
- 12:31recognize, so it's a little bit strange.
- 12:34Yeah. But the cast we can recognize,
- 12:39so. Oh, and if I didn't mention this
- 12:41before, tomorrow is based on a web tune on Naver by the same
- 12:46name. So the cast, Let's talk about
- 12:49Kim Hee Sung, who plays GUI Yong.
- 12:52She is the team leader. I called her Little Red in my
- 12:55notes because she has a red hair and red eye shadow.
- 13:01Yeah, she has done about 10 movies and 19 TV shows,
- 13:05including someones that I was like, man, I can't believe she
- 13:10did these. So My Fair Lady from 2003, Faith
- 13:15from 2012, which is where I recognized her from, I was like,
- 13:19man, she looks so familiar. She looks so familiar.
- 13:20When I put the dog together and I saw that she had done Faith, I
- 13:23was like, Oh my God, that's where she's from.
- 13:26Faith with Lehman Ho How have you seen that look?
- 13:32I don't think I've ever seen her before.
- 13:35OK, that's fine. That's fine.
- 13:37It The thing is, she had red hair as well in faith.
- 13:40Yeah. Yeah, she had like this Auburn,
- 13:43long Auburn hair. And I'll tell you that Faith
- 13:46Show is from 2012. I watched it when I was airing.
- 13:49I loved it. Then I rewatched it not long
- 13:51after I finished it and I was like, wow, this show is shit.
- 13:54I don't know what I was on like back then.
- 13:56I was like rewatching shows and realizing like, what was I
- 14:00thinking a few weeks ago? And I watched this and loved.
- 14:02It. So faith from 2012 with Imeno
- 14:07Lord, she has not aged. I mean, she looks stunning when
- 14:13I first saw her and then I saw her and I'm like, what do you
- 14:15mean? What do you?
- 14:16Mean what? What do you mean?
- 14:18Can I look like that too? And the red health suits her so
- 14:21well. I'm so sorry.
- 14:22I love it. It does.
- 14:23I haven't seen her like at least in Tomorrow, that's where I know
- 14:27her from right? I love her hair.
- 14:29Like the colour is just her colour.
- 14:32It looks amazing on her. She's also been in The Lady in
- 14:35Dignity from 2017, Room Number 9 from 2018, Alice, Remarriage and
- 14:41Desires, which is a Netflix show from 2022.
- 14:43And I've always thought, oh, let me press play on that.
- 14:45But I think it's a mock Jung. So I've always been like, maybe
- 14:48not, perhaps not. And then she's supposed to be in
- 14:50bittersweet hell this year. It's a 2024 release.
- 14:55Yeah, I I saw that. Did you see it?
- 14:57OK, maybe. No, I haven't.
- 15:00Like I'm so behind on some dramas.
- 15:02I mean, it's OK, girl, you know Alice, you.
- 15:05Don't have to tell me. You don't have to tell me.
- 15:08Yeah. Never Ending story is, oh, I'm
- 15:12behind. So what did you think about her
- 15:16in this show? She is basically the star of
- 15:19this show to me. It's her and then everybody else
- 15:21is supporting her. That's that's that's my feeling
- 15:26on this. I know it's an ensemble cast,
- 15:27but I don't know. For me, it's just her.
- 15:30Yeah, no, for me as well, because I felt like we they got
- 15:33like a deeper understanding of her at some point.
- 15:37I really enjoyed her acting. It was a for me, it also felt
- 15:42like she was like the female Lee that was just, it was about her
- 15:45at some point, like her dealing with everything happening with
- 15:48her past, with everything else right now as well.
- 15:52And I actually enjoyed her acting.
- 15:54So I would definitely watch something again with her in it.
- 15:57So for me it was good, but I also don't have anything to
- 16:00compare it to right? OK, yeah, sure.
- 16:03But it kind of gave you a taste of like what she.
- 16:07Yeah. What she's like on screen and
- 16:09her presence. And you were impressed?
- 16:13Yeah, I. Was in a way OK, I would have to
- 16:15see her like in a in a different role.
- 16:17I like to compare actors with like, you know, like gloomy, sad
- 16:22dramas with how they deal also with maybe comedy and stuff,
- 16:26right? Because this, yeah, role I would
- 16:29say was more serious than like from the other actors, right.
- 16:35And I feel like if I can see her range a little bit better, I
- 16:38will have a like a better understanding.
- 16:39But for now, I enjoyed her. Would definitely watch again.
- 16:42Yeah. What about you?
- 16:43I hadn't seen her in over a decade.
- 16:45So I was like, man, she again, I was plagued by the where have I
- 16:50seen this person before? Feeling OK?
- 16:54Yeah, yeah. And then once I finished the
- 16:55show and I looked it up, I was like, Oh my God.
- 16:58Of course, she was in this freaking show with Lee Min Ho
- 17:01and that show Faith, I'll just give you the quick, like, quick
- 17:06one sentence, like, what's it about?
- 17:08So this doctor, she's the doctor and present day somehow time
- 17:14slippage, she gets sent back in time.
- 17:16And Lehman Hill is this warrior in medieval career.
- 17:21And so she is kind of a hot commodity because she has all of
- 17:26this medical knowledge. Yeah, and I don't even remember
- 17:31anything else about the show like that is as far as the
- 17:33extent of my. Let's see, I hear time travel.
- 17:37I'm like, yeah, let's. Skip this one.
- 17:39No, I understand complete like girl, you don't have to justify
- 17:43like not liking time slippage stories to me.
- 17:47I just, it's like rare time travel.
- 17:49I'm like do it better. Do it better.
- 17:52I know, I know, I know. Done.
- 17:55So anyway, I really enjoyed her in this.
- 17:58I think that the she's also in this, this I I suck at this
- 18:04because I wish that I had watched more from her, but she's
- 18:08in this level where she's paired with younger men.
- 18:14Yeah. And Lehman Ho back then was, I
- 18:16mean, 10 years ago, he was even younger.
- 18:19So they were love interest back then.
- 18:22And she was always older. She's born in 1977 is I think
- 18:26they're the year that she was born.
- 18:28Yeah, I don't know. So there was a age gap between
- 18:32them and I think she's in the same class as Oh my God, What's
- 18:41the crash course in romance lady?
- 18:44Oh I I know what you mean but I'm so bad with nags.
- 18:47But I know I like I. I watched that.
- 18:50Do you so crash course in romance?
- 18:53Is. Oh my God, why is her John
- 18:59Doyon, Don John Doyon, that Lady where she is afforded the
- 19:06privilege because she's in a class where she's so well
- 19:10respected that she can be paired with a younger man.
- 19:15It's like an honor. And I feel like it's the same
- 19:18with her. I don't think it's a stretch to
- 19:21say it's the same with. Kimisa no, I can't see that.
- 19:27Like I watch crush course in romance right?
- 19:30Wait. It is crash course in romance,
- 19:32but it's hard because there's the crash landing on you, rolls
- 19:36off the tongue easier than crash course, and you have to like
- 19:39redirect your brain when you talk about this.
- 19:42Just my third language. I'm fighting here.
- 19:44OK, OK. So yeah.
- 19:47And then talking about Korean dramas, Yeah, my head is
- 19:49spinning. OK, Anyways, definitely crash
- 19:52cursing Romans. I watched it just for fun and I
- 19:55actually enjoy it when the age of like when the woman is older
- 19:58and the guy's younger, I actually enjoy this a little bit
- 20:01more than if it's the other way around.
- 20:04So and here I don't know, like her love interest.
- 20:09Can we call her and well. So hold on his.
- 20:15I feel like it. Was good.
- 20:16It worked. No, I got the wrong name.
- 20:20Hold on. No, now I need to know his age.
- 20:24Now I need to know how old is. He young or old?
- 20:28No, he's definitely younger than her.
- 20:30Isa Hyuk is definitely younger than her.
- 20:34Oh my God. By a full decade by.
- 20:36A full decade. He's born in 1988.
- 20:40Oh wow, that's look, I love them.
- 20:45I fell in love with both of them together.
- 20:48I know. They were.
- 20:49They were great, yes. Yeah, I I just love it.
- 20:53I'm really if the romance is bad, but the, you know, the
- 20:56woman is older and the guy is younger, not too young though.
- 20:59If he's gonna act stupid, please go away.
- 21:01But you know, like a. Proper.
- 21:04An adult man, an adult and an older woman.
- 21:08It's pretty hard to find, I know.
- 21:10But yeah, I I just love that so. So Co star part of the ensemble
- 21:16cast is row wound, which is I think the main reason why
- 21:22everybody watches this show. I mean, what do you, what do you
- 21:26think, Pam? I I mean, I think I commented on
- 21:31your video, right? I love him.
- 21:33I maybe a little bit because it was my first drama and he was in
- 21:37it. He was like the mainly tribe and
- 21:41I love it, but also my sweet guy.
- 21:45Can you do something else? Can you do a thriller and be the
- 21:48bad guy and just be mean Another go and retrieve a boyfriend.
- 21:53OK, Because yeah, I like his acting for comedies.
- 21:57It's it's OK, right? It's he seems quite funny.
- 22:00I guess I know know him personally.
- 22:03I wish though, but I felt like this role was not so different
- 22:10from his other roles. And I saw a few more of his
- 22:14works and there is one that I roll.
- 22:17I don't know how I finished that and I really wish he did not
- 22:20pick this one. Do you want to say what?
- 22:23OK, so I'll just go through his filmography and then I will talk
- 22:26about him as well without because this conversation needs
- 22:31to be had it just. I mean, I made a whole video
- 22:34about this drama because I was like, what the fuck were you
- 22:37trying to do? Sorry.
- 22:39OK so Roman plays Jun Wong, he obviously is a former member of
- 22:45SF9 which makes him an idol. I still consider him an idol
- 22:50even if he's quit the band. Technically, he quit only last.
- 22:55Year, I think it's. 2023 is when he announced he was taking.
- 22:59A. Protracted break.
- 23:00He's 63. He's giant.
- 23:04He looks tall in everything I've seen him in, he looks giant.
- 23:08And he's now 27 years old. He has been in quite a few
- 23:13dramas. He's been in School 2017 and
- 23:16obviously the year 2017. The school series that has come
- 23:20out of Korea is very famous for creating stars.
- 23:24People that you see in the school series, very high chance
- 23:28that they will become famous. They will become Hollywood
- 23:31stars. And if you look back at the
- 23:33school series, you'll be surprised.
- 23:34Just dead ass surprised. Yeah, not that those shows are
- 23:40amazing, like some are probably great, but I know word of
- 23:44caution. They're usually the first jobs
- 23:48out of out of college. You know what I'm saying?
- 23:49Like out of idolhood is like they get in the school series.
- 23:53But anyway, about time. He's been in that show from
- 23:562018, where stars land from 2018 same year.
- 24:00And then we hit extraordinary you from 20/19, which was your
- 24:05first K drama. It is Co directed by one of the
- 24:09directors of True Beauty, so there's that connection.
- 24:14And then? The other director of
- 24:16extraordinary you directed my Mr. Oh, I haven't watched this
- 24:22one yet. Oh shit.
- 24:24OK, well, highly. It's on my like look, it's high
- 24:26on my list then a lot more but. Definitely watch my Mr. So it's
- 24:32almost like lobster and Skittles situation.
- 24:35You had like 2 vastly different directors specializing in two
- 24:39different genres, almost two different tones and they mash
- 24:43them together and they made them work on Extraordinary.
- 24:46I don't know how they made them sign up on this together, but
- 24:49Extraordinary and maybe they're friends.
- 24:51Extraordinary you in 2019 and then we have She Would Never
- 24:55Know from 2021. There is a Patreon episode up if
- 24:59you want to hear my final thoughts on that.
- 25:03Spoiler alert, not very good. My thoughts were not very
- 25:06positive. It's what I mean to say.
- 25:07The King's affection from 2021. I dropped that at episode 13.
- 25:14OK. But I don't like the ending
- 25:16though I have beef with. It.
- 25:18Yeah. So then you have beef with it.
- 25:20Wonderful. I mean, that's sarcastically
- 25:22destined with you from 2023. That's the show.
- 25:25Yeah, there it is. That's the one.
- 25:28That's Oh my God, no, we could cancel this one, I'm pretty
- 25:31sure. I don't know, I started watching
- 25:34it because, you know, I said I love fantasy in ROM coms, but it
- 25:39was giving me nothing except pain.
- 25:42I was watching it. I'm like, did you get lost at
- 25:44some point? This is still fantasy.
- 25:47I was no, I was generally confused.
- 25:49I was watching it like OK, now I'm confused if this what's
- 25:53going to happen, it's still fantasy, is it?
- 25:56I felt like really they got lost.
- 25:58They just didn't know what to do.
- 26:00They were starting off right? I mean, remember, there was a
- 26:03scene, if you haven't watched it yet.
- 26:05So I'm just going to say like, so I think it has been on the
- 26:07Internet. Everybody was like, oh, my God,
- 26:09this is so nice. It's so hard.
- 26:11And they're like, OK, I also like it, you know, like this
- 26:15bloody hand on the red hand in episode one.
- 26:18Yeah. Yeah.
- 26:19And I'm like, oh, wow. Do I finally get my ruin being a
- 26:23little more serious, a little bit, you know, just doing
- 26:25something different. No, you went into full golden
- 26:29retriever back again like this was one second and that's why I
- 26:34started the show and now I wished I'd never seen it.
- 26:38I watched the drama and people, please, that was not good.
- 26:45You cannot convince me that was good.
- 26:47They got lost with the plot and my ruin is once again playing
- 26:53the same stupid boyfriend and I got.
- 26:56And then most recently he was in the Matchmakers, also a 2023
- 27:00show. I think it made me started in
- 27:022023 and end in 2024. I don't have a good track record
- 27:08with with Rowan shows, which is the entire reason that I thought
- 27:15let me watch tomorrow because I was talking to people.
- 27:19People were like, well, maybe you should watch tomorrow.
- 27:22Tomorrow's his best work. Tomorrow's the best thing he's
- 27:24been in. It's so good, yadda, yadda,
- 27:25yadda. So here I am, I watch tomorrow.
- 27:29But I have to say, I decided to put out this question on the
- 27:34socials. What do we think of Rowan as a
- 27:37leading man in K drama? Is he everyone and their mom
- 27:43said, oh, he's so beautiful, He's so hot.
- 27:46All these different fire emoji, the heart eyes emoji,
- 27:49everything. And I'm like, yes, yes, yes,
- 27:51yes, I know this I but tell me, can he acts?
- 27:56What do you think about his chops, his talent?
- 28:00Is he more than a pretty face? Because I'm concerned about the
- 28:04intersection of talent and, you know, beauty, right?
- 28:08I would love for everyone who's on screen to like deserve to be
- 28:12there and the K drama industry, the K pop industry, hell, all of
- 28:18Korea is very vain, pretty privileged, is rampant and is
- 28:24roboon. I mean, one of these people that
- 28:29do we have do we I I see the gears turning in your head, fam.
- 28:35And The thing is, I didn't want to come out and say I don't
- 28:39think he's a good actor, blah blah, because it's not that the
- 28:41that's not the case at all. I just want to know what's the
- 28:44consensus? And The thing is, it was a mixed
- 28:46bag, completely mixed bag. Everyone was like, I don't think
- 28:51he's a good actor or I think he's improved or I love him.
- 28:55I love his acting. He's such a great comedic actor.
- 28:57Everyone agreed baseline that he's a great comedic actor.
- 29:00And I'm like, OK, so we need him in something else.
- 29:03He's been typecast. You're saying he's been
- 29:05typecast? Yeah, yeah, he has.
- 29:08And I mean, I wouldn't say that he's like, he's amazing actor.
- 29:12Like I love him. Yes, I do, but more because I
- 29:14know that he can do comedy so well.
- 29:17I feel like it feels authentic, right?
- 29:21In a way. But I think he needs to stop
- 29:24doing ROM coms for a bit. Do a movie that's a little bit
- 29:28darker, do something that's not him being the golden tree
- 29:31boyfriend. Because if I watch the Kings of
- 29:35Action and I enjoyed it, ignoring the end, and then
- 29:40again, he is always the simp. He is always the simp boyfriend.
- 29:45I'm like, that's cute and all, but you cannot like, I hate
- 29:50actors that are always the same. I'm like, yeah, OK, I saw this,
- 29:53but you're playing the same character again, just with a
- 29:55different name in a different series.
- 29:58So yeah, I did like him a little bit more in Tomorrow than in
- 30:02Dustin with you. And I do think that ignoring the
- 30:06fact that Extraordinary you is my first OK drama, I would put
- 30:11tomorrow's definitely on his words, at least that I know like
- 30:14on being the number one, to be honest, definitely better than
- 30:18whatever he did and Dustin hit with you and everything else.
- 30:22I agree with the people. I agree with the people.
- 30:25I agree with the people because I see improving.
- 30:28Right. I see improvement.
- 30:29Like personally I've seen she would never know.
- 30:32I've seen, I've seen King's Affection even if I dropped it
- 30:34at episode 13. I've seen Destin with You even
- 30:38if I dropped it again a late episode, but I saw a lot of it.
- 30:42I don't think that I dropped these because of his acting, and
- 30:48I don't think that I disliked the shows because of his acting.
- 30:52Even if I finished, she would never know.
- 30:54I was kicking and screaming like all the way to the finish line
- 30:56on that one. And it was not because of
- 30:58Rowan's acting. It was literally because of
- 31:01writing, because of Female League, because of everything
- 31:03else. And to me that says like, oh,
- 31:06he's not really the issue, but maybe he still is because he's
- 31:09choosing these shit gay dramas. Yeah, I always wonder, like,
- 31:14does he not feel comfortable playing darker roles or does he
- 31:17not get it because I mean, his face does not look like a
- 31:20villain, you know, like his Co star.
- 31:22Wait, Lisa yuk, sorry. You know, you look at that man
- 31:28and he whatever. Yeah, he can do the villain.
- 31:32And I was still back for him, so, you know, everyone on my
- 31:34knees for him. But Rowan is still a cutie pie.
- 31:38This man is so tall, everything he does will look kind of
- 31:41clumsy. It doesn't.
- 31:44But yeah, he needs something else to improve a little bit
- 31:49more. Yeah, I think he.
- 31:51And The thing is, there's another, I hesitate to say
- 31:57actor, but it is an actor, another actor from SF9 who's
- 32:01been acting since he was a child, and he doesn't have the
- 32:04same opportunities as Romun has had simply because of what?
- 32:10Like 'cause he doesn't look like Romun.
- 32:15Yeah, that's Korea. Sometimes we are then not
- 32:19aspired. And they came from the same.
- 32:21Need an end? Yeah, yeah.
- 32:24Like you can literally compare them.
- 32:26It's kind of hard not to compare.
- 32:28But to be honest, I only know him as an actor, right.
- 32:32I didn't know that he was an idol before or was still at a
- 32:36time. And when I saw him singing and
- 32:37dance, I'm like, yeah, don't. And like, keep singing, maybe
- 32:42just don't dance because he's really tall.
- 32:46And when I saw him video him next, I'm like, acting is good.
- 32:50Good choice, buddy, good choice. Do it again.
- 32:54So Roman, funny story though, I was watching it on the big TV in
- 32:58my family room, but tomorrow I was watching the show tomorrow
- 33:01on the big TV in my family room and I was like debating, like it
- 33:05is he? I was like, is it just me?
- 33:07I think he's attractive. Like I think Roman is
- 33:09attractive, but I put it up to Solomon, my sister.
- 33:14So I told my sister and I said, hey, look at the screen.
- 33:19Do you think that guy is attractive?
- 33:21And it took a minute, 'cause, you know, I'm not pausing it or
- 33:24anything. I'm just like letting the drama
- 33:25go. And finally Rowan shows up like
- 33:28that guy and it takes 2 seconds. She's like, I can't really tell
- 33:32because he's had so much work done.
- 33:35And I was like, you know what? Fair, fair.
- 33:38Fair enough, fair enough. You know what?
- 33:39Fair. We have such a skewed view,
- 33:43yeah, of what is attractive and what is not because we've just
- 33:47been been exposed to the Korean aesthetic.
- 33:53Yeah. And beauty standard for salons.
- 33:58That's so true. But literally my sister was
- 34:01like, yeah, like I see had a lot of work done.
- 34:04I can't really I hard to tell. Yeah.
- 34:08I always say like. Damn.
- 34:11Actors, when it comes back to saying like they're attractive,
- 34:13I always be like, OK, they're attractive.
- 34:15And the type of guy that I would talk to to, you know, ask for
- 34:18the number, I would go on a date.
- 34:19Another guys I think are like just attractive, being pretty.
- 34:23I and I'm like Rowan is always in the middle.
- 34:27Like I, I can't tell, like he looks pretty and he's really
- 34:31attractive. Would he be my type, though?
- 34:34I don't think come on, Especially because I don't like
- 34:36tall guys. So I'm like, that's a giant for
- 34:38me. 63. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:42But yeah, he's improving. Yeah, maybe he will get.
- 34:46He chooses shit projects. You can't tell me otherwise.
- 34:49Like I'm convinced and for real, he's had a couple of wins, but
- 34:55like I. Will call the manager and be
- 34:56like, no, let's not do this again.
- 34:59We're switching up baby. Yeah.
- 35:01All right, so we're moving on to you.
- 35:03We already talked about him briefly because he was born in
- 35:051988. Isuhiuk, who plays Jung Gill,
- 35:09the escort team leader. Slash, I have him here as the
- 35:13voice slash ABS because he just I don't know if you saw the
- 35:17recent. Of.
- 35:19Course I saw it. Oh.
- 35:20The photo shoot that came out. Recently I opened my phone.
- 35:23I'm like. Oh my God.
- 35:26This is this is a lot. Should I post it now?
- 35:28I'm going to get should. I post it same.
- 35:31Well, I'm like, you couldn't take it away from me.
- 35:33Like the carousel was like, I was like flipping back and forth
- 35:37and then flipping back the other way and I was like lost, lost,
- 35:42lost my train. Flat no.
- 35:43So anyway, he's been in about 5 movies, 20 TV shows including
- 35:48Tree with deep Roots, which I was like wow that's a very
- 35:51iconic saga. Historical K drama from 2011
- 35:55high school King of Savvy, which I was like whoa I forgot he was
- 35:58in that Scholar Who Walks the night from 2015.
- 36:01This is where I saw him first, and this is where I saw him
- 36:04last. Because.
- 36:06He's just kind of been a presence in, you know, K media
- 36:10for so long, but I forgot. This is where I watched him
- 36:14legitimately. Like, this is where I saw him on
- 36:16screen. Scholar was tonight.
- 36:18He played a vampire and I was like, yeah, that fucking tracks.
- 36:21Like. He when he came out.
- 36:23Of I mean, who else would play a vampire?
- 36:25Yeah, he played Vampire. Cree is the name of his
- 36:28character. Yeah, he's When he started
- 36:31talking, I vividly remember hearing him speak for the first
- 36:35time. Yeah, I'm pretty sure you cannot
- 36:36forget that you. Can't forget it 'cause it just
- 36:39doesn't match his face, his body, anything.
- 36:43So he started talking and I was like, Jesus Christ, is that the
- 36:47is that for real? And it's absolutely for real.
- 36:49That's his deep ass voice emanating from this body.
- 36:54I don't. I just don't know so.
- 36:56For me, it's like it was my first work with him.
- 36:59Like I've seen clips or of the scholar who walks the night,
- 37:03Right. So of course I've seen the
- 37:04clips. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:05I'm like, Oh my God. Wow.
- 37:07I need to watch this drama. But I'm like, I don't know if
- 37:09Koreans can do vampire. Well, I I just don't know.
- 37:12I don't see it at some point. I don't know why, but I yeah, so
- 37:16I can't. Every vampire show I've seen
- 37:18from Korea is like, all right. It's never like, I don't know
- 37:23because I've seen so much vampire shit in my life.
- 37:25It's it's never. I love vampires and if.
- 37:27You're going to mess with vampires.
- 37:29Do it right, do it right, do it sexy.
- 37:31Like do it, you know, I mean, not that he wasn't sexy in the
- 37:34in the. Oh no, Scholar was like, I saw
- 37:36one clip. I'm like, whatever, I'm just
- 37:38going to watch whatever till the end of the day.
- 37:40Sold. You got me there.
- 37:43Got me so he was in that lucky romance.
- 37:46Sweet Stranger and me do metro service from 20/21.
- 37:51Empress Wu is coming out this year 2024 and S Line as well.
- 37:56These are two projects that he has coming out in 2024.
- 38:00What did you think of Isukiok and his role in Tomorrow?
- 38:07Just. Instantly, like, are you mushy
- 38:10girl? Oh my God, of course.
- 38:11Look. If he was in front of you right
- 38:13now and we'll like when he was absolutely mean to her like to
- 38:19gurion. I was like yes to me too.
- 38:21Now please be angry at me. I also did something wrong.
- 38:24Hello I also. Did something wrong?
- 38:27No, I I loved it. I don't know if it was because I
- 38:31mean of course it was because of his voice, right?
- 38:33I do love a deep voice. So watching my sweet mops.
- 38:36So right now is also amazing for my ears.
- 38:40And then I saw him like, OK, he is attractive.
- 38:42And this voice is a cherry on top.
- 38:45Like this man could tell me everything.
- 38:46He could be lying, gas lighting me.
- 38:49I don't know. I vote for him.
- 38:50I don't care. I don't care.
- 38:52I don't care. It's fine.
- 38:55Let's forget feminism for a second, OK?
- 38:56Oh. My God, Pam.
- 38:59I'm so sorry, but I I really love deep voices.
- 39:03And when he started talking like, oh, the drama just got so
- 39:06much better and all like, I love you Roan, but you just lost.
- 39:10You just lost. Roan never heard of him.
- 39:14Yeah. Who's that?
- 39:14Who's that? Yeah.
- 39:17And the chemistry with our girl Kurian.
- 39:20It was just amazing. Yeah.
- 39:23So I fell in love with both. I was like, Oh my God.
- 39:25Yes. Always on screen please.
- 39:27Like he's so mean, but he's so mean.
- 39:31Yeah, but. I.
- 39:33I forgive. Him.
- 39:34Oh my gosh. So he's, yeah, he's in there.
- 39:38You know I love red flags. Look at what I posed.
- 39:42There is no way I would not love him.
- 39:44I know, you know, The thing is like that's why we bonded
- 39:48initially is like because we like the same red flags
- 39:54characters, characters we understand.
- 39:57I don't want to hear this like really is like, oh, these people
- 40:00are so toxic, blah blah. How can you like so and so?
- 40:02It's like it's a fictional fucking character.
- 40:05Yeah, I don't like my excess are worse, so I don't know people.
- 40:10It's like. Keep it in perspective, yeah.
- 40:13So yeah, we'll just move on for now.
- 40:16But the last person we want to highlight on the cast list
- 40:19before we get into our general thoughts is Yun Jion, who plays
- 40:24IM Ryungu. He is part of the escort team,
- 40:26He rounds out our trio, our three Musketeers, and he's done
- 40:31about four movies and 20 TV shows.
- 40:34When I saw his resume, I was shocked.
- 40:38Shocked, I thought. I've never seen him before.
- 40:40Why are you in everything? He's been in everything and I
- 40:43thought, this is how you this is a true resume.
- 40:47Like when I looked at his resume, I was like, this is a
- 40:49real person who has no connections, not an idol who has
- 40:53literally worked their way up through bit parts in TV shows
- 40:58that are actually of notoriety. Like he's picking really great
- 41:03scripts and being someone like a nobody in the show versus
- 41:08getting a shit script and being someone big, like taking a
- 41:12larger part in the show. You know what I'm saying?
- 41:15So he was in memory from 2016 as assistant director, not even a
- 41:20named character, our gab Goon stranger.
- 41:23He was in episodes three and four of the season one of
- 41:28Stranger, which we covered just recently on the podcast.
- 41:30You can scroll back. Yeah, amazing show.
- 41:34He was in hit the top as detective, a detective character
- 41:38in hit the top Mr. Sunshine. He was in a student soldier not
- 41:43even named character in Mr. Sunshine, where stars land
- 41:48security check employee be melodramatic VIP psychopath
- 41:53diary memorist sweet home. The first season he was in an
- 41:57episode 4 so many things. The witches diner GD sun this
- 42:04show tomorrow, my lovely liar. Most recently he played Duk Tron
- 42:10duk Tron and then he's got a couple projects coming out this
- 42:14year. Love love next door
- 42:15serendipities embrace. I love to see this type of
- 42:19resume, I love to see this type of filmography that you don't
- 42:22see this that often anymore. I was so surprised because I
- 42:26watched My Lovely Light. I'm like, what do you mean?
- 42:28He was there because I watched the show.
- 42:31It was airing. I was watching it so I was like,
- 42:34Oh my God, I need to rewatch it just to see where he was.
- 42:37And he's, I think, 33 years old. Oh, that's, I look kind of young
- 42:46in a way. That's a lot of work.
- 42:48This one has been working a lot. Yeah.
- 42:54I love it. I wish.
- 42:55I want to see him more to be honest and I.
- 42:57Want to see him more? Enjoy his character.
- 42:59Yeah, yeah. I think it's high time that he
- 43:03gets more responsibility on a show.
- 43:07And when you compare him to Rowan, you start to get a little
- 43:14like, OK, yeah, I guess you start to raise.
- 43:21You start to raise your eyebrows.
- 43:22A little bit, yeah. I mean, I think I need like a
- 43:25compilation of all his scenes and other dramas just to see
- 43:28like, yeah, that would be amazing to see.
- 43:31Like, you know, his development and how he definitely played,
- 43:34played so many different characters.
- 43:36He learned a lot. Yeah, and just being on those
- 43:39sets for, you know, probably a day or so, just doing those
- 43:42scenes and stuff, playing bit parts.
- 43:45I, I really, I think he should be bigger than he is.
- 43:50Yeah, for real. So we also have Kim Heisuk the
- 43:54Great Kim Heisuk as the Jade Emperor, the King of Heaven.
- 43:58And other than that, there are also other names that come out
- 44:02throughout the series in the cases that come up in each
- 44:07episode, but we are not going to go over them.
- 44:10So without further ado, Pam. What did you?
- 44:15Taking this long, but Pam, what do you think of tomorrow?
- 44:19What are your general thoughts? About the show, yeah.
- 44:23So I mean, I did rewatch it for this episode, right?
- 44:26So I watched it while it was airing and at that time I was, I
- 44:34mean, it was COVID time already, right?
- 44:36It's 20. 22 Summer Yeah 2022. Yeah, still kind of COVID
- 44:41happening and a lot was going on in my personal life and I was
- 44:44watching this one and I could resonate with it a lot, right?
- 44:48So many things that was similar to my life that I also
- 44:52experienced in a way or just know from other people.
- 44:56So I was like, oh wow, this is so much.
- 44:59I did cry a lot. I usually don't cry that easy.
- 45:02It's really hard to make me cry with dramas before.
- 45:04So my friend is triggered even easier.
- 45:08So. But now that I rewatched them,
- 45:11like some episodes were kind of boring and I'm like, oh wait,
- 45:16why did I cry here? Why was I crying?
- 45:19There's nothing to cry about. Like it's sad, yes, but why was
- 45:23I crying? Though Oh my God, I remember.
- 45:26Yeah, the 1st watch is always a little bit more emotional to be
- 45:29honest. It's so much I'm like yeah, it's
- 45:32not that deep like it is, but it's also not sometimes and but
- 45:38I still enjoyed it. I still love this drama.
- 45:41I just would not rewatch it like for third time.
- 45:44I usually don't rewatch dramas at all, but I would definitely
- 45:49recommend this one if you're in A.
- 45:51OK. So you would recommend it space?
- 45:54Yeah, I would to be honest, but only if you like to see how
- 46:01people from different country from a different country work
- 46:04around with mental health. Well, because I feel like they
- 46:07talked a lot about it and what's important for Korea, right?
- 46:11If you don't know Korea or a little bit of about their
- 46:15culture, you will be like, what the fuck is that?
- 46:17What is this? It's, it's a yeah.
- 46:22It's so hard to watch it if you're someone who gets
- 46:25triggered easily and there's so many triggers that has have not
- 46:29been set in the beginning of an episode.
- 46:31I was like, you should, you should have added that.
- 46:34But if you're not in the right space in your mind, you will
- 46:38lose it a little bit. Sometimes it's way too harsh.
- 46:42The way they were talking. It triggered me sometimes like,
- 46:45oh, wow, people, calm down. We're talking about serious
- 46:49things here. We cannot say that.
- 46:52I get why they did that, but yeah I would definitely only
- 46:55recommend to people that can deal with this kind of topics.
- 46:58Yes, I I agree with you and I think that we had the same read
- 47:03on the show as a matter of fact, and that we have the same
- 47:09personality. I think when it comes to our
- 47:13drama habits and the way that we approach content.
- 47:17I don't rewatch dramas usually. It takes a lot for me to cry in
- 47:22a drama. Usually if if I cry, I just tear
- 47:26up and then I consider that I cried, but I didn't cry.
- 47:32I just like got really sad and I teared up.
- 47:35But it wasn't like I'm like, you know, noses running.
- 47:39I need a box of tissues kind of crying.
- 47:42Almost never. Hardly ever.
- 47:45Yeah, same. So exactly, that's what I'm
- 47:49saying. Like we're the same.
- 47:51And there were a lot of moments, especially in the front half
- 47:53that I thought, whoa, this would never fly If like, I'm not a
- 47:59crisis counselor and I have no idea how to deal with someone
- 48:06who's suicidal. But it's it seems like this was
- 48:11the wrong approach. Like from from jump.
- 48:14I was like, this seems like the wrong way to go about trying to
- 48:18save somebody who's on the verge of just killing themselves,
- 48:23right? And that like that was
- 48:26triggering in and of itself. Like I it was tough to watch as
- 48:32well, especially in those early episodes.
- 48:36But I think that the show was sort of ground breaking and it
- 48:41covered some topics that are really difficult for people to
- 48:47face and controversial topics as well that people don't like to
- 48:54talk about and consume in their media.
- 48:59And I think ultimately I would recommend it as well.
- 49:01Not sure that it's rewatchable, but I think it's certainly has
- 49:05merit to watch all the way through at least once.
- 49:08Yeah. And I love the characters and I
- 49:10love the story. And I think I saw some
- 49:13complaints saying that people kind of they felt like, oh,
- 49:17there could be less time spent on the cases and more time spent
- 49:21in like Jomandong and the underworld area with the
- 49:27characters that you've come to know and love, like the Rowan
- 49:31and, you know, The Three Musketeers, as I called them
- 49:35before. And I don't know if I agree with
- 49:39that so much. I feel like the writing was was
- 49:41pretty tight and it almost felt like there was more content than
- 49:46they fit into 16 episodes, if that makes any sense.
- 49:48Felt like a longer show than 16 episodes almost in a good way.
- 49:53Like wow, they did all this and it was only 16 episodes?
- 49:57Yeah. I mean, I, I also don't think
- 50:00that we should focus more like on the whole heaven.
- 50:03I mean, there was a religious aspect to it, right?
- 50:05We cannot ignore that it was really Catholic driven.
- 50:09Oh, I thought it was Taoist. Very Taoist.
- 50:14For me, it was maybe because I'm not familiar with it, but I grew
- 50:16up Catholic, right? And the whole suicide is a sin
- 50:21is something that you learn right away in Catholic or in
- 50:25Catholic school, like church school, whatever.
- 50:28That's I grew up with that. So that's what people that are
- 50:31Catholic usually believe, that if you do that, I mean, you can
- 50:34even be buried in the Catholic cemetery.
- 50:38If you did. Suicide, right?
- 50:41And I was like, Oh, my religious drama is calling.
- 50:45Wait a little bit. Stop it because I.
- 50:48I understand totally where you're coming from, that you're
- 50:53going to find a lot of commonalities.
- 50:54Like, not commonalities, but you're going to like, you can
- 50:57identify with a lot of the lore, for lack of a better word, in
- 51:03the show based on where what you're familiar with.
- 51:08And you grew up Catholic, and the suicide thing in Catholicism
- 51:12is is a thing. It really is.
- 51:16So when they started calling it like a sin and, you know, like
- 51:19Lee Isuhiok's character hating it like, so much, Yeah.
- 51:23Like, he's not even trying to understand the people.
- 51:25Like I was so mad at him in the beginning.
- 51:26Right. Dude, can you just listen?
- 51:29Yeah, yeah, why don't you get it?
- 51:32But also all the episodes, every time they were telling a story,
- 51:38I was always glad that we also got to understand each character
- 51:41a little bit more. Like the nose picking, right?
- 51:44Yes, We got to understand why he does it because I was like, can
- 51:48he stop? This is absolutely disgusting,
- 51:50right? And then you got so intact.
- 51:52Yeah, every time. And he was touching people and
- 51:55like. Yeah.
- 51:57I saw that, but I loved. It.
- 52:01And just the approach sometime like the first episode, right,
- 52:04Right in the beginning, how Gurion starts talking to the
- 52:09people. I'm like you, you just want to
- 52:11push them at this point. Why not just push them because
- 52:13you guys are pushing them? Because I was like, oh.
- 52:15My gosh, it was really harsh. Yeah, yeah, I mean, I get it.
- 52:18I I still say that I understand where she was coming from and
- 52:21why she was doing it that way. But she I was like, that's too
- 52:25much. I was acting like Rowan in all
- 52:27episodes, like you. Don't do this.
- 52:30Rowan is the audience proxy, yeah.
- 52:32Which definitely. Is very easy to play because
- 52:35he's just sort of standing in for the audience and he is the
- 52:39bridge. Yeah, I mean, I felt like this
- 52:43made it a little bit easier to understand a few things because
- 52:45every time you had a question, sometimes you would ask it like,
- 52:48why are we doing? Yeah, I'm like, oh thank God
- 52:49someone else because I lost now. Yeah, I thought that coming from
- 52:55watching so many sea dramas, this was very easy to
- 52:58understand. The Taoist aspect of the show,
- 53:03which is Who is this Jade Emperor?
- 53:07Yeah. Why is there this whole thing,
- 53:09you know, this whole hierarchy and who are the Grim Reapers?
- 53:13And the mythology of it was very familiar.
- 53:18And also if you've watched older fantasy cage dramas like Goblin,
- 53:23for instance, this whole setup of the Grim Reapers, again, is
- 53:27very familiar. Yeah, you're looking at me a
- 53:30little bit weird. Why?
- 53:33Let's Goblin. Yeah, I'm gonna finish it at
- 53:36some point. OK, you're one of those.
- 53:39It's fine. You're not gonna I know what you
- 53:40think and you're not gonna like what I think.
- 53:42It's. Fine, I.
- 53:44Yeah, but I do love the whole green Reaper.
- 53:46Yeah, it's totally fine. I'm.
- 53:47Just referencing the grim Reaper thing I.
- 53:49Don't give a shit. If you like the.
- 53:50Show No I. Really.
- 53:51Like, yeah. Usually green reapers are one of
- 53:54my favorite type of characters to be honest.
- 53:57OK. Just like the way they're
- 53:59portrayed sometimes I read The Book Thief right where you read
- 54:05the point of view is from death itself, about during the World
- 54:09War Two. So since then I've been
- 54:11intrigued by this kind of character where the Green Reaper
- 54:13is, you know, coming to a person and either collecting the lives
- 54:16and so whatsoever. I just like the concept of it.
- 54:19Like the idea. Maybe that's the Catholic in me
- 54:21talking. No, I like that.
- 54:24I like the death personified aspect of Grim Reapers, and once
- 54:29you throw a personality on them and that they had former lives
- 54:33and that they remember them and stuff, it becomes really complex
- 54:36and compelling to watch and that's what the show does.
- 54:40I think the the world itself almost reminded me of like Men
- 54:46in Black or like John Wick, where there's like this
- 54:50underworld that you have no idea you're just living your life and
- 54:54you have no idea that there's like a secret society fighting
- 54:59off aliens. And in this case, you have no
- 55:01idea that there's this unseen underworld that is constantly at
- 55:06work collecting souls and ushering them into the
- 55:11afterlife. And they treat it as a business.
- 55:14They call it the company. It's like corporate.
- 55:17Yes. And the Jade Emperor is the
- 55:20director, and it's all like sort of segmented.
- 55:24And in the world that Rowan's character is coming from Junoon,
- 55:32he is trying to find a job, right?
- 55:34Like he's trying to enter a company.
- 55:37And I liked the fact that they presented it as a company.
- 55:40They it's sort of an interesting concept that it's treated like a
- 55:45business. I mean, I think it also made
- 55:49people understand it, maybe a little.
- 55:50Bit more because very simplistic.
- 55:52I mean, at that time I remember I was also looking for a job.
- 55:55I'm like, yeah, I don't know if I want to die and then have to
- 55:57work again, But I don't have a job right now, so maybe.
- 56:00That's the better choice, I guess.
- 56:02Yeah, who knows? Right, right, right.
- 56:06But I just loved it, like the whole suit and all the
- 56:09characters like the. The.
- 56:13He wasn't a twin. The one elderly man, Adarshi,
- 56:17that was always appearing like the same guy and then he has
- 56:19like he was like 8. What's it called?
- 56:22The quadruplets? I don't know.
- 56:24I. Know what you're talking about,
- 56:25but yeah, yeah. I just love something like, I
- 56:28usually love that, right? It was just, it was fun to
- 56:32imagine, like heaven. In this case, as a company,
- 56:36like, yeah, maybe it is. You know, well, a lot of people
- 56:39cannot just be hanging around over there, right?
- 56:42Just gonna chill, right, right, right.
- 56:45I liked it a lot and I think the show worked for me largely.
- 56:52Yeah. And that the risk, they're the
- 56:55risk management team. I mean, it's just like really
- 56:58clever. I I found it really clever, but
- 57:03yeah, I. Mean, I work in corporate.
- 57:04I loved it. It was, I'm like, yeah, pretty
- 57:06much corporate life, just haven't.
- 57:09Corporate. Life just underworld and.
- 57:12Yeah. Yeah, they have like viruses and
- 57:17stuff that infect their system and they have to.
- 57:20All that stuff is just like, OK, I guess.
- 57:23Sure. I mean, they have like a team
- 57:27that, you know, the designer team, then a sales team now that
- 57:31sort of hilarious. I mean like, what do you mean
- 57:33you're going in their dreams and make them sign a contract?
- 57:36What do you mean? When they're on.
- 57:41Their. Left it's just so like
- 57:42manipulative anyway, so we both like the show.
- 57:47Probably wouldn't rewatch the show.
- 57:49Very heavy-handed at times the show.
- 57:55Definitely. OK.
- 57:56Yeah, sometimes. Yeah, very triggering.
- 57:59Super triggering. Did any of the Did you like the
- 58:05pacing of the show 'cause you kind of said that the front half
- 58:09bothered you? Do you mean like the pacing or
- 58:11just the substance of the stories and the way they handled
- 58:14the cases? It was more about how they
- 58:17handled the cases. Sometimes we did get like a few
- 58:21flashbacks, right? And I was like, OK, can we know
- 58:23what we're doing now? Sometimes it was a bit fast.
- 58:26I'm like, I don't know. I, I still cannot pinpoint it,
- 58:30right? I'm like, it was right, but also
- 58:33maybe a little bit slower or faster.
- 58:35Some scenes would have been nice, but it worked for them in
- 58:39my opinion. It worked for their stories, the
- 58:42way they were trying to tell it. I think it worked.
- 58:46I think the first half of the show was slow to me.
- 58:51Yeah. And it was hard to get into.
- 58:54See that? Yeah.
- 58:55Yeah. I, I think it was hard to get
- 58:56into, even if the stories were good.
- 58:59I was just finding myself, like, I was like looking everywhere
- 59:02above the screen, you know what I'm saying?
- 59:05It wasn't until the later episodes, like episodes.
- 59:08Once I got halfway through, like episode eight, I was like, OK,
- 59:11let's go look, I'm invested. But it took a while to get
- 59:14there. I did see a lot of those
- 59:17comments on MDL to be honest. Oh well, OK, enjoy reading them
- 59:21sometimes for fun and. So do I because some of them are
- 59:26like really unhinged and other wasn't like a thesis.
- 59:30Yeah, some people write way too much.
- 59:31I'm like, it's not that deep. Right, right.
- 59:33Anyways, I saw a few people saying that, but I actually do
- 59:37not remember when I watched it for the first time.
- 59:39It's been so long. So for me it's really hard to
- 59:41say. Oh yeah, definitely like that
- 59:43because it's my second time, so I already knew what I wanted to
- 59:47see and what I had to expect, right?
- 59:49Yeah. So maybe while I watched the
- 59:52first time, I do not remember it being too slow for me.
- 59:57I can only talk from my point of view as is.
- 1:00:00Watching it for the second time, just some episode was like, OK,
- 1:00:05let's move on, We can continue now.
- 1:00:07Right. Did you guess Guiyang's back
- 1:00:11story at all without going into spoilers?
- 1:00:14I don't want to spoil anything, but you did.
- 1:00:17I did a little bit, especially the colors, they were very
- 1:00:21telling. But there was some, like in the
- 1:00:24beginning I was switching my opinions.
- 1:00:26I was like, oh, maybe it's different than what I'm
- 1:00:29thinking. And I was like, Oh yeah,
- 1:00:30definitely a history. Interesting, interesting.
- 1:00:34But I want a whole miniseries. She, she died during the
- 1:00:41invasion of Chang or something. And I was like, oh, I know
- 1:00:45what's going to happen. Because.
- 1:00:48Especially because after coming off of 2023 and watching my
- 1:00:51Dearest yeah, the Invasion of Change should just be ringing
- 1:00:57alarm bells in all of our heads now.
- 1:00:59It is such a huge moment in Korean history.
- 1:01:02And she's been alive for exactly like 400 and something years.
- 1:01:06And I was like, we're going to go back there.
- 1:01:09It's going to be a shit show. And sure enough, her back story
- 1:01:13is really intense and we see that in It was late episode 14
- 1:01:19was when we finally see the full picture of everything that
- 1:01:23happened to her and everyone who's related to her.
- 1:01:27I'm really trying to like keep it under wraps in case someone
- 1:01:29wants to watch tomorrow and not be spoiled.
- 1:01:32So so you guessed some of it. We'll go into like what you
- 1:01:35guessed in the spoiler section. So I wanted to kind of tease
- 1:01:40that. Did you?
- 1:01:41Were there character arcs that really spoke to you in the show?
- 1:01:44I don't think that Rowan's character had much of an arc
- 1:01:50other than sort of an acceptance, a general acceptance
- 1:01:54arc. Yeah, I don't think I had like
- 1:01:56anyone else was like, Oh yeah, this one.
- 1:01:59I think I could just resonate a lot with parts of Rowan's
- 1:02:03character. Well, I was like, yeah, the
- 1:02:06whole job finding thing at this, because I remember I was at
- 1:02:10this, you know, it was COVID. I just finished my bachelor's
- 1:02:14trying to find a job was horrible.
- 1:02:16And I was like, yeah, I also have like my family that it's
- 1:02:21not that I have to support them, but it's a big part of me and I
- 1:02:24was struggling to show, hey, I'm not that fine.
- 1:02:28It's it's a lot right now. So watching it, I remember being
- 1:02:32like, yeah, I, I totally get all those people that are, you know,
- 1:02:36either working in a job they don't like or being accepting
- 1:02:39thing they shouldn't accept or just trying to get something.
- 1:02:44Especially like the episode with his best friend.
- 1:02:47Oh yeah, that was an early episode too.
- 1:02:50Yeah, it, it was way earlier than I thought it would happen,
- 1:02:53to be honest. And I was like, Oh, yeah, I get
- 1:02:56that feeling like, you know, the whole trying and trying and
- 1:02:59trying and not getting where you want to be.
- 1:03:02I could resonate with that a lot.
- 1:03:03So this was more like certain people had some a tiny bad I
- 1:03:07could resonate with. Right, Right.
- 1:03:09Usually, yeah. Did you have anyone I.
- 1:03:13Think I really loved the later episodes, and this has nothing
- 1:03:20to do with me resonating like me.
- 1:03:23It's me empathizing, not me sympathizing because I'm not a
- 1:03:26mother. But like, the motherhood thing
- 1:03:28in the later episode, yeah, I was like on the floor, laid up.
- 1:03:33I was wrecked. And so that's Ryongu's stuff.
- 1:03:40Like his Oh yeah stuff. Oh my God, I was wrecked.
- 1:03:45Wrecked toe up I feel like. Tomorrow had a lot talking about
- 1:03:49women in society. Absolutely.
- 1:03:51And that's what I. Liked.
- 1:03:52About it. Yeah, I loved it.
- 1:03:54Like, there was a lot of focus on how women are treated in
- 1:03:57society in general. And I really love that aspect,
- 1:04:01to be honest. It was like, yeah, open people's
- 1:04:04eyes, please. Yeah.
- 1:04:07Yeah, so just a lot of episodes were really good.
- 1:04:12And then I think when they started intertwining some stuff
- 1:04:15for the characters, I was like, Oh my God, this is great.
- 1:04:18I love the strength from Guriong and how she's just sort of like
- 1:04:23a battering ram of a person in her episode 14 back story
- 1:04:31flashback sequence, if you will, is takes over the entire episode
- 1:04:36is literally the whole episode and it's stunning.
- 1:04:41Like I thought that besides the production value being really
- 1:04:45high, I thought that some of these sequences that they had
- 1:04:48were really impressive and historically accurate.
- 1:04:55I don't know much about how his credit is, but I love that.
- 1:05:01Like, what I especially loved is that they did not just, you
- 1:05:04know, show the whole story through 16 episode, but they
- 1:05:07made sure that each character got their own episode.
- 1:05:11Like Ingu is it, what's his name again?
- 1:05:14Nose picking guy. Yeah, right.
- 1:05:18So he got his episode so we could properly focus on his
- 1:05:21story without focusing too much on other things.
- 1:05:24And then we got her story also in one episode, because I think
- 1:05:29it would not have been fair to tell her story just through tiny
- 1:05:34bits and bits. And then you have to put it
- 1:05:36yourself together. You were like, no, you got to
- 1:05:37see what happened to understand. And then making him also see it.
- 1:05:42It's so hard to not tell what's so hard.
- 1:05:46I love that. Like, I feel like I wouldn't
- 1:05:49have liked it that much if I had to guess.
- 1:05:51Put it all together like a puzzle.
- 1:05:53Like you got hints but then you still got everything in one
- 1:05:56episode. Right, I I agree with that and
- 1:05:59that'll contributes to me feeling the pacing is pretty
- 1:06:02good for the whole show and that they covered so much in almost
- 1:06:06so little time. They could have cut it down.
- 1:06:09Like obviously they can always cut out stuff and it'd be fine.
- 1:06:12They could have made it a 12 episode show, but I feel like 16
- 1:06:15is fair. Really fair.
- 1:06:19And I mean we have K dramas with 16 episodes almost like a whole
- 1:06:24movie and they tell us nothing. Oh, and I think each episode was
- 1:06:29like one hour, right? Yes, one hour.
- 1:06:33And I'm like, yeah, that was perfect.
- 1:06:34It was not too long. You still got kinda like for me,
- 1:06:37it was not too long. I agree.
- 1:06:39But and yeah, so because if it was like 16 episodes, 1 1/2 hour
- 1:06:43long, been 10. So I'm looking at you.
- 1:06:47Oh my God, call it out. You don't have that much to
- 1:06:49tell. Call it out.
- 1:06:50You don't have to that much to tell.
- 1:06:51Like I'm a Yappa and I would be done after one hour.
- 1:06:54So please. Yeah.
- 1:06:57So that they did great. I was really happy with that.
- 1:06:59Yeah. So yeah, all of their arcs are
- 1:07:03really good. Like the main three, their arcs
- 1:07:06are really good. And it's, you know, about facing
- 1:07:08the traumas of your past and overcoming your own
- 1:07:14insecurities, your own, you know, things that hurt you and
- 1:07:22regret your own regrets and moving forward from a place of
- 1:07:29acceptance and love and not from a, a place of hate or what's it
- 1:07:36called when you just try and like, well, ignore it, like a
- 1:07:39place of just ignoring it, like shutting it down.
- 1:07:41I don't know. No, totally.
- 1:07:45I feel like it's also a lot about taking, taking a life and
- 1:07:49just be like I'm in charge and I'm going to get through it.
- 1:07:51Yes, yes, very powerful stories. And again, we have totally not
- 1:07:57gone into detail about anything in the show.
- 1:08:00We have sidestepped every spoiler we could.
- 1:08:04At this point. I'm trying to think of what else
- 1:08:09we could talk about. Yeah, no, I don't think we could
- 1:08:13talk about anything else. Like, besides giving our ratings
- 1:08:17at this point and getting into the spoiler section.
- 1:08:19So, Pam, what would you rate the show out of five Sochi bottles?
- 1:08:25Oh, I remember my first watch was a 10 out of 10.
- 1:08:30Yeah, I'm, I would say 4.5 out of 10 or out of five.
- 1:08:37Right. OK.
- 1:08:38It's not a five out of five, I would say, but a 4.5, it's
- 1:08:43pretty high for me, yeah. Same.
- 1:08:46Yeah. What are your rating?
- 1:08:47No, no, it's the same. Like we're, we're the same
- 1:08:51because I think it's a four and a half out of five.
- 1:08:54It's very close to A5, but I think because it's not
- 1:08:58rewatchable that hinders it being a five out of five show.
- 1:09:05Yeah, totally. But I was thinking about it
- 1:09:08before we started kind of like I cannot make it a five out of
- 1:09:11five. I just yeah, doesn't work right.
- 1:09:16Right, so 4 1/2 hold your bottles at 5 for me too.
- 1:09:21And with that, we are going to break for spoilers.
- 1:09:24If you want to be spoiled, keep listening.
- 1:09:27If not, stop here and come back after you finished watching
- 1:09:31tomorrow. Excuse me, I can't.
- 1:09:34Turn. I can't turn, you know.
- 1:09:37I am not Oh. Sorry, swear.
- 1:09:41This crossing shit. What?
- 1:09:46All right, we're on the other side of spoilers, guys.
- 1:09:48So we're going to talk through the show and all of the really
- 1:09:53triggering aspects about it in more detail.
- 1:09:58So Pam, you said that you guessed about Rion's back story.
- 1:10:04What exactly did you guess about it?
- 1:10:07Did you guess? Correctly about it.
- 1:10:09I think that I was really focused on these two.
- 1:10:13I was like, OK, something definitely happened and shit.
- 1:10:16Went down between her and Joseph like 100%.
- 1:10:20And I'm like, OK, he doesn't remember, She does.
- 1:10:22She definitely killed herself with, especially when we saw the
- 1:10:25red string for the first time. Like oh the whole red it.
- 1:10:28Was like an episode string thing one or two that they showed the
- 1:10:30red string on her wrist. And I was like, oh, that's it,
- 1:10:33this is important. Yeah, so for those who.
- 1:10:35Don't know, OK. This is part of the lore and
- 1:10:39also just Korean mythology, right?
- 1:10:44It's just this red string of fate.
- 1:10:45It's also in a lot of sea dramas, right?
- 1:10:48Like it's part of like, just this lore.
- 1:10:52Whole Asia, it's kind of right. Like the red string of fate is a
- 1:10:54thing. Yeah, You know what?
- 1:10:56I'm gonna look it up. What?
- 1:10:57Red string of fate? Yeah, red string.
- 1:11:02Oh, also the red string of marriage.
- 1:11:06Yeah. East Asian belief originating
- 1:11:08from Chinese mythology, commonly thought of as an invisible red
- 1:11:12cord around the finger of those who are destined to meet one
- 1:11:15another in a certain situation as their one true love.
- 1:11:18So she has the red string of fate tied around her wrist and
- 1:11:21we're like something the fuck is up with her red string of fate?
- 1:11:25Like who was supposed to be on the other end of the string?
- 1:11:30I mean, when you first watch that, right, and he gets
- 1:11:33introduced the first time, you're like, OK, it's him, he's
- 1:11:36the one. He is the one.
- 1:11:39Right for me and for her, yes, but yeah.
- 1:11:42But I feel like you could always sense that she kind of knew
- 1:11:45something and he didn't. But his his aura was always
- 1:11:49different. It was pure hate about her being
- 1:11:53from hell, right? Her mission and her mission.
- 1:11:57And I was like, every time they interact, I'm like, OK, they
- 1:12:00know each other, but she knows more than him.
- 1:12:03Like he has no idea that she has like the whole back story So and
- 1:12:07every time she was always talking to our Jaden Perot.
- 1:12:10I was like, OK, they both know something and he was definitely
- 1:12:13with her at some point in their life.
- 1:12:15I just could not tell if it was like just his past life or his
- 1:12:19past past life. How many lives did this guy
- 1:12:21live? To.
- 1:12:22Lose her. And sometimes at some point, it
- 1:12:25was like, hey, May. Did.
- 1:12:26He make her kind of kill. Herself, I'm like.
- 1:12:30No, it doesn't make sense because she was still kind of,
- 1:12:35she wasn't in love, but you could feel some something I love
- 1:12:39when they were on screen together.
- 1:12:40So I think I just guessed really that it was definitely him and
- 1:12:44definitely the suicide thing. And then she cannot be with him
- 1:12:47together. Yeah.
- 1:12:48Anymore. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:50Because part of this lore that they've established, this is I
- 1:12:54think specific to the show, is that victims of suicide, because
- 1:13:02they commit suicide, they are punished cosmically by their red
- 1:13:07string of fate being broken, this link being severed.
- 1:13:12And so hers was severed. And you're like, this is what's
- 1:13:15happened. So you get the broad strokes.
- 1:13:17I so we both guess the same exact thing, by the way, like
- 1:13:20these broad strokes of like it's him.
- 1:13:23He's the the the red string guy for her and she committed
- 1:13:28suicide in her past life. Something the fuck happened
- 1:13:31between them? Like there's some drama that we
- 1:13:34don't know what happened that made her commit suicide.
- 1:13:38Yeah, I was first I thought that it was him, right?
- 1:13:43That he kind of said that whatever.
- 1:13:45Because you, the first thing you see at this kind of her on the
- 1:13:50street walking and then talking to him like this is what you
- 1:13:52wanted to do. You put down your sword.
- 1:13:56Yeah, right. Put down your sword.
- 1:13:57I'm like, OK, what the hell did he?
- 1:13:58Do. You're like.
- 1:13:59What is this? Yeah.
- 1:14:01Yeah, boy, I like you, but why are you killing people?
- 1:14:06Right. So you're like, oh, what's up?
- 1:14:08Why is he killing people on the street?
- 1:14:10She's mad. Why is she mad?
- 1:14:12Why was she there? Right, she's just in the.
- 1:14:15Street. In the evening like so, lots of
- 1:14:19questions, very few answers. We don't get answers until
- 1:14:22episode 14 when the Jade Emperor finally tells Row wound the
- 1:14:26whole back. Story.
- 1:14:28And this extended flashback sequence of the invasion of
- 1:14:31Chang, their whole meeting, their meet cue and everything in
- 1:14:34the woods. I was riveted.
- 1:14:36I was like, this could be AK drama all on its own.
- 1:14:39Oh my God, I wrote that down. I'm like, I want that as AK
- 1:14:42drama. I need to see that on screen.
- 1:14:44Just the two of them. It was super cute.
- 1:14:46Yeah. Made done like it was done so
- 1:14:48well. I fell in love.
- 1:14:50Yeah, it was done really well. And this is what I mean by this
- 1:14:53was very historically accurate because this whole invasion, the
- 1:14:57way that the Ching are dressed, the sequence of events, and
- 1:15:02obviously this basically mini Saguk that's in the middle of
- 1:15:06the show, extremely well done. And it's accurate, you know,
- 1:15:13pretty accurate. Obviously, the specifics of what
- 1:15:15happened to her, like there's no way to know if this happened to
- 1:15:18this noble woman back in the day.
- 1:15:21But yeah, in the 1600s, there was an invasion of Cheng and it
- 1:15:25completely obliterated Korea. It messed with the politics.
- 1:15:31And if you watch My Dearest, that goes into way more detail
- 1:15:33about what happened during this invasion.
- 1:15:37Oh, that's super. Interesting.
- 1:15:39Yeah, and it's super, super interesting.
- 1:15:41And episode 14 comes on the hit with the back story and the
- 1:15:50connection between the comfort women that were that story that
- 1:15:55happened in the episode prior. Episode 13, that connection
- 1:16:00becomes way more apparent. Like why did they do the comfort
- 1:16:03women episode, the cat that case, and then immediately they
- 1:16:07do her back story in episode 14? It's because she was also a
- 1:16:13victim of this Ching invasion and was captured.
- 1:16:15Just like the comfort women were ripped from their homes or
- 1:16:21hoodwinked into being sex slaves and this is a real thing.
- 1:16:26Both of these things are true, like history and the prevailing
- 1:16:32Confucian belief at the time. In the 1600s, that belief system
- 1:16:37created a hostile environment for survivors who actually
- 1:16:41managed to return to Charleston, Korea, after experiencing
- 1:16:46slavery and sexual assault at the hands of the invading Qing.
- 1:16:49And so she even though in tomorrow Ryong doesn't
- 1:16:54experience sexual so she wasn't raped, it doesn't matter.
- 1:16:59Like it if you watch my dearest, it goes into way more detail but
- 1:17:02like it doesn't matter. It's just the fact that she was
- 1:17:04taken. There's no way to know for sure
- 1:17:07if she wasn't raped or whatever. Like it's literally the worst
- 1:17:11raging case of victim blaming that you've ever seen.
- 1:17:15And it's real. It happened.
- 1:17:19It's so crazy. I mean especially the
- 1:17:21mother-in-law like. She Oh my God, I.
- 1:17:23Always hate the evil mother-in-law.
- 1:17:25I was like, girl, what do you mean?
- 1:17:29Please stop Every time she was on screen, like, Oh no, I can't
- 1:17:32do this anymore because I hate like the evilest mother-in-law
- 1:17:36is always stop it. I mean, I I know that's probably
- 1:17:40definitely what happened with this kind of woman, right?
- 1:17:42They always think about the owner, especially when they have
- 1:17:44a son, you know? But still.
- 1:17:47Like, the way that she talked to a lovely badass girl that saved
- 1:17:52everyone at like, in the story at least.
- 1:17:55Like, that's not how we do it. You should be helping her and
- 1:17:58the whole, yeah, society judging them just for surviving.
- 1:18:03Horrible. It's the.
- 1:18:05Same thing that happened to the comfort women in episode 13.
- 1:18:09So I found that really fitting, powerful.
- 1:18:12The parallels were there. And the fuck that mother-in-law,
- 1:18:17That mother-in-law, what did she say?
- 1:18:19There's a quote here that I have from her.
- 1:18:21Is your life worth more than the honor of this family?
- 1:18:24Oh yeah. And I was like, abso fucking
- 1:18:25lutely. It is like fuck this family.
- 1:18:28Person. What do you mean obviously?
- 1:18:31Excuse. Me, I'm here.
- 1:18:32Yes, it's more. Uh huh, uh huh.
- 1:18:34She was instigating her to commit suicide and the the scene
- 1:18:40of her losing her maid and stuff to the they literally stoned her
- 1:18:44to death. They would have stoned, Yeah.
- 1:18:48What's it Red, Big red to death. But.
- 1:18:50But there's also like another biblical thing, because you
- 1:18:53know, you have. Stop.
- 1:18:54Yes. I was like, yes.
- 1:18:56Yeah, so I was like, Oh my God. Yeah, totally.
- 1:18:59You know, people sin. And then someone, you know,
- 1:19:02what's the quote again? If you have sinned, throw the
- 1:19:05first stone away. Yeah, he has.
- 1:19:07No sin. Something like that.
- 1:19:08Stone Yeah. So I'm like, Oh my God, yeah, I
- 1:19:13know that story. And people will always judge 1st
- 1:19:15and before even looking in the mirror.
- 1:19:17Absolutely. Oh.
- 1:19:19It's like society, like it's still up until now, right?
- 1:19:22Like people will judge and say whatever, especially on the
- 1:19:26Internet. Yeah.
- 1:19:27So I'm like, yeah, people will always throw the first stone,
- 1:19:31doesn't matter if they're in a sun or not.
- 1:19:33But oh. My God, you're absolutely right
- 1:19:35with the biblical tie in. Yeah, with the stoning of the
- 1:19:43the two women and then the maid dies protecting her.
- 1:19:46She like covers her body with like, Oh my God, I was really
- 1:19:50affected by that. I didn't cry, but I was just
- 1:19:52like, Oh my God. It was very emotional.
- 1:19:55And to see her sort of be strong during the invasion and see her.
- 1:20:03Say we have to survive, We'll we'll get back, you know, very
- 1:20:06staying very positive, you know, throughout the whole thing, had
- 1:20:09that survivor mentality throughout the whole ordeal and
- 1:20:13then finally get back and it's when she's get, she's back home.
- 1:20:17That's what breaks her. Yeah.
- 1:20:21Like that's what breaks her. Spirit.
- 1:20:23Yeah, I mean, totally understandable.
- 1:20:26Imagine surviving this kind of thing, so helping others survive
- 1:20:30as well. And then you get home and be
- 1:20:31like, Oh no, you're not you. Should have done having people
- 1:20:33just survive fingers at you and say you're to blame, you're at
- 1:20:36fault and you should have died. Yeah, why did?
- 1:20:40You come back. I mean, this episode, like my
- 1:20:44rage was so high. I was like, Oh my God, I cannot
- 1:20:47deal with it because I get really angry at sometime when I
- 1:20:50feel like something is not fair. Yes, I get so angry I have to
- 1:20:53pause. Pam, we're the same.
- 1:20:56I was like, it's just a serious calm down.
- 1:20:59Yes, my anger issues cannot handle it because I just can't
- 1:21:03see myself losing my shit. And I'm like, no, you're not
- 1:21:06talking to people like that. Not to me.
- 1:21:09Couldn't be. Survived.
- 1:21:10I helped all these girls here. No.
- 1:21:13You couldn't even have kids if you didn't come back.
- 1:21:15What you talking about? Oh.
- 1:21:16My God. And the fact that he actually,
- 1:21:20you know, her husband, Junky actually loved her and supported
- 1:21:25her through this and wanted to continue their marriage, He
- 1:21:30didn't blame her at all. He was like on her side
- 1:21:32completely. That was also so like.
- 1:21:37Impactful. I think it shows how much they
- 1:21:40loved it. I loved it because we get to
- 1:21:42know how they met for the first time and it was super cute.
- 1:21:45Like you still get this whole he is always a angry type of guy
- 1:21:49thinking he is always so right, you know, and righteous.
- 1:21:52And then she's like, chill, there are poor people here now,
- 1:21:55so please share a little bit. And yeah, I love that.
- 1:22:00I love the whole dynamic. They were super cute together.
- 1:22:02But I also feel like at some point, you realize that he could
- 1:22:05not understand her point of view.
- 1:22:08He was struggling. He wanted to help, but he didn't
- 1:22:10know how even. Yeah, like, he told his mom, no,
- 1:22:14I'm still being with her. But he still couldn't understand
- 1:22:17why it was so bad for her to continue living like that,
- 1:22:21because she didn't want to hurt him and she was suffering so
- 1:22:25much. But he just couldn't understand.
- 1:22:26It was not his point of view. Like he just couldn't.
- 1:22:30Oh, it's so tough. It was so tough.
- 1:22:32So that episodes really stood out to me.
- 1:22:35Episode 14 when they finally reveal like what the hell is
- 1:22:39this mysterious connection that these two have?
- 1:22:42It broke my heart it. Totally broke my heart.
- 1:22:44Yeah. And it was, I think it was
- 1:22:46fitting because you've seen all of these stories that are so
- 1:22:51horrendous. They are so undeniably sad and
- 1:22:59just impactful and. I feel like each story.
- 1:23:06Was transporting. It was heartbreaking.
- 1:23:08Each story was just so transporting and you're like,
- 1:23:11OK, what if if they are teasing this whole thing throughout,
- 1:23:15Like what is this mysterious connection that has like fucked
- 1:23:18them both over even in the afterlife, even as they are
- 1:23:23reapers? What could it possibly be?
- 1:23:26It's pretty bad. Like once you finally see it in
- 1:23:28episode 14, you're like, it's pretty bad.
- 1:23:30Like I can see. It is bad.
- 1:23:32Why? It went down the way it did.
- 1:23:36And why she is so compassionate toward those who are thinking of
- 1:23:43committing suicide and suicide victims.
- 1:23:47And why he is so hateful toward suicide victims.
- 1:23:54I mean, I think in the beginning he was just really hateful
- 1:23:56because it's a sin, it's not good.
- 1:23:58And then he when he finally understood what happened between
- 1:24:03them. He.
- 1:24:04You could even like, if you remember when he was supposed to
- 1:24:08be punished right by, I call him Mr. Johnny Depp because he
- 1:24:11looked like Johnny Depp. And then he's on his knees and
- 1:24:18she comes to talk to him. And it's like, you can feel
- 1:24:21that's not love between them, right?
- 1:24:23It's something, but it's not love the way it was before.
- 1:24:26It's very hard to play it like this where it's not love, it's
- 1:24:33what is it. I could feel I was like, I
- 1:24:34understand what that is. I cannot name it, but I get it.
- 1:24:38And you could finally see him understanding why she does what
- 1:24:42she does and why she also did what she did.
- 1:24:45What happened to her. It was his own way to say I'm
- 1:24:48sorry that I could not understand you at that time.
- 1:24:52Right. It was super beautifully done by
- 1:24:55them. Like this was such a great
- 1:24:57acting. Yes, yeah.
- 1:24:59I can't even name what it is the emotion that they are conveying.
- 1:25:02Yeah, I was. I remember watching like, I know
- 1:25:06it's not love, even though I wish they could be together
- 1:25:09again. I would die for that.
- 1:25:11I. Know but it's just they're not
- 1:25:12like romantic it's not romantic love it's.
- 1:25:16But it's also not friendship at that moment, right?
- 1:25:19It's it was just an understanding of each other at
- 1:25:22that point. She was just like, thank you
- 1:25:24that you finally get it. Yeah.
- 1:25:27Took you a few years, but. Took you.
- 1:25:29I don't know. You got it, though. 400, Yeah.
- 1:25:31Some odd years, but glad we're here.
- 1:25:33If you're incarnations, a few. Glad we're working together,
- 1:25:37yeah. Maybe it's just closure.
- 1:25:39Yeah, it's like the way that if you have like a an ex and you
- 1:25:44don't, you kind of never got to talk about what happened and
- 1:25:48then you finally have to talk. You may not hate each other as
- 1:25:51much as before, but you have an understanding of.
- 1:25:53Yes. Closure, right?
- 1:25:56Yeah, it was. I love that.
- 1:25:58And the way that he smiled and everything.
- 1:26:00He was like a tiny bit of smiles, like OK, final.
- 1:26:02Episode so I really like that episode a lot the one that came
- 1:26:09before it broke me. This was one that I was like
- 1:26:12crying, Like I had literal tears running down my face.
- 1:26:16I was all congested. It was a real I, It was a really
- 1:26:20cry. It was legitimate.
- 1:26:22It was the comfort women episode.
- 1:26:23So oh. Yeah.
- 1:26:25No, this one like broke me into little itty bitty pieces.
- 1:26:31I don't know how you felt about this one, but I was like, Oh my
- 1:26:34God. So I already said for those who
- 1:26:37don't know and kind of need a little bit of context.
- 1:26:40So for comfort women, were women and girls forced into sex
- 1:26:45slavery by the Imperial Japanese armed forces in occupied
- 1:26:50countries and territories before and during World War Two.
- 1:26:55And the numbers on this are wild.
- 1:26:58They estimate that there's it could be 10s of thousands, as
- 1:27:03much as 200,000 girls that were forced into beings, comfort
- 1:27:11women. And the statue that they feature
- 1:27:15in the show is called the Statue of Peace.
- 1:27:18It's a monument in front of the Japanese embassy in Seoul.
- 1:27:23It faces the embassy. And that's featured a few times
- 1:27:27in the episode as well, which I thought was a great touch.
- 1:27:31That statue is such a symbol of the plight of the comfort women.
- 1:27:38And it's not just Korean women that were taken into the sex
- 1:27:41slavery during this time period, but it was a majority comfort
- 1:27:45women were Korean. This statue is such a symbol
- 1:27:51that they've erected more like throughout the world, like it
- 1:27:55just popped. People put them everywhere.
- 1:27:58The one that's in front of the Japanese embassy in Seoul,
- 1:28:01though, is a topic. The Japanese hate that one.
- 1:28:07Of course they do. Yeah, Japan loves to not talk
- 1:28:12about its history, for lack of a better word, putting it mildly.
- 1:28:16They love to not talk about the crimes against humanity that
- 1:28:20they have committed. And this is one of them that it
- 1:28:24took many, many years for them to even acknowledge any
- 1:28:29wrongdoing about the comfort women.
- 1:28:33And I think in 2015, because the statue was erected, I think in
- 1:28:372011, in 2015, they came to some agreement with the Korean
- 1:28:41government that they were like, look, we'll send money.
- 1:28:45We'll give money as reparations to the comfort women or in some
- 1:28:50sort of fund, right, for the comfort women.
- 1:28:53And we'll say sorry, and you'll get rid of the statue.
- 1:28:59And the Koreans were like, bet never got rid of the statue.
- 1:29:04They were. Like, yeah, fuck you.
- 1:29:07Then never. I don't think there was an
- 1:29:08official even agreement from the Korean government to get rid of
- 1:29:12the statue, but it was, I don't know where the Japanese, this is
- 1:29:15all what the Japanese government is saying they agreed to.
- 1:29:20But the Koreans are like, yeah, never, never agreed to get rid
- 1:29:23of the statue, but thanks for the money.
- 1:29:24Involved. And so it's been up in the air.
- 1:29:28The Japanese were like, yeah, we're not going to send the
- 1:29:30money anymore. And I think they removed a
- 1:29:35couple of their diplomats from the ambassadors, from the
- 1:29:39embassy. It is like, you know, a little
- 1:29:42temper tantrum. Yeah, over.
- 1:29:44The comfort women's statue that stands outside their embassy, so
- 1:29:51I love that they included it in the show.
- 1:29:54Yeah, it's, I mean, when I was watching this episode before, I
- 1:29:57didn't know that too much about comfort for women, right?
- 1:30:01I used to read a lot of historical books and stuff, but
- 1:30:05I'd never knew a lot about what happened between Korea and
- 1:30:08Japan. And when I first watched this
- 1:30:10episode, I was like, oh, I need to know a little bit more.
- 1:30:12And so I read a little bit into it.
- 1:30:14I'm like, Oh my God, this is absolutely horrific.
- 1:30:16What the what the fuck is what kind of behavior?
- 1:30:21It's just absolutely insane. And then what I loved about this
- 1:30:25abstract is how many times they mentioned we never got an
- 1:30:29apology. So, so many times.
- 1:30:34I think it was the dying girl woman at this point.
- 1:30:38She said I cannot die until I made sure that everybody knows
- 1:30:43what happened, that we were not, it was not our fault we were
- 1:30:47forced to to do this and that we get an apology.
- 1:30:51I still have get goose goosebumps, to be honest every
- 1:30:54time I talk about it because for me, this episode was super
- 1:30:57impactful. She was really every time we
- 1:30:59like we never got an apology. I cannot die now because I need
- 1:31:03to get this apology so all of us can rest in peace.
- 1:31:07Right. I have to do this on behalf of
- 1:31:09all the other girls. Yeah.
- 1:31:11And that, I mean, I've already, I'm not that far removed from
- 1:31:16the episode. And that line that you're
- 1:31:21referring to is very powerful. It was uttered by Kim Yong UN,
- 1:31:26the great Kim Yong UN. She played that character of
- 1:31:31Chong Moon in. She was on her deathbed and she
- 1:31:34was the like one of the comfort women that was.
- 1:31:37They had a strange connection and with Buk Bukwe Bukhe.
- 1:31:43Yeah, Yeah. Who was afraid that she was to
- 1:31:47blame for sending her friend to be a comfort woman because they.
- 1:31:52It was this whole nefarious thing.
- 1:31:53Like, they would put these ads in the papers and say, oh, you
- 1:31:56know, come and work at this factory, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:31:58And these girls would show up and it would it, they'd be put
- 1:32:03to work as sex slaves. So she was afraid that she
- 1:32:07basically sent her off, like, without her knowing that this
- 1:32:11was a, A trick. Yeah.
- 1:32:15I mean, she was a little girl. How was she?
- 1:32:16Supposed, how was she to know? She just want to help her
- 1:32:19friend. She broke my heart when she said
- 1:32:21it. I wanted.
- 1:32:21To help her. Oh my God.
- 1:32:24So again, this whole episode was me.
- 1:32:29I mean, I was red, I was sweating, I was crying,
- 1:32:35completely wrecked me. And I was at the when they said
- 1:32:38the ending of the episode was when Kim Yong UN's character,
- 1:32:44the former comfort woman, dies. And she is saying she this
- 1:32:49friend, like the one that died saving them, would not blame her
- 1:32:56that she. Would give her.
- 1:32:57A hug if she could. And that I'm not going to stop
- 1:33:01advocating for us and demanding an apology from Japan.
- 1:33:04Flood of tears flood. I'm talking about waterworks.
- 1:33:08And when I like you, kind of knew who was who the.
- 1:33:11Reaper. That's this Reaper that was in
- 1:33:14now in the mix and I was like, who's this new Reaper?
- 1:33:17Listen, hit me like a ton of bricks.
- 1:33:21Yeah, when she revealed that that was that's the the one that
- 1:33:24died, the the friend that died saving them is that this group
- 1:33:29of of girls escaped. Yeah, and Oh my God, no, I was
- 1:33:35done. I was done just.
- 1:33:36Too much people. Well, what you're doing to me.
- 1:33:38So many tears I can't even see anymore.
- 1:33:41I don't even have like coherent notes I just have here an all
- 1:33:44caps then the blonde Reaper being the friend Unique crying.
- 1:33:48OMG no. I no, no.
- 1:33:54Yeah, I think I wrote, this will always make me emotional.
- 1:33:56It's so heartbreaking. And it did it again.
- 1:33:58It's heartbreaking working it for the second time.
- 1:34:01I know what happens. I know who is who.
- 1:34:04I know what's going. You know, I'm like, yeah, still
- 1:34:07crying. Here we go again.
- 1:34:09It's just really well done. The only thing that I didn't
- 1:34:12like was that Rowan was like a freedom fight.
- 1:34:17Yeah. I also was like this is way to
- 1:34:19run our people. I'm like crying and crying and
- 1:34:21then they reveal she's keep me on No ghost.
- 1:34:25You look so familiar. And then like thrown back into
- 1:34:27the flashback of Roman being the freedom.
- 1:34:30Fighter and. I was like.
- 1:34:31Fuck you. Say.
- 1:34:33I'm literally wiping away tears and like sniffles and be.
- 1:34:35Like why? Why is this?
- 1:34:39Like fuck out of here bro, especially after my sister
- 1:34:44going. He has, he's had too much work
- 1:34:47done. Like yeah, no, like Rowan is a
- 1:34:49freedom fighter in 1944. Get the fuck out of here.
- 1:34:53Like. For real, come on.
- 1:34:57No, it was my thought, I said because, like, yeah.
- 1:34:59I know that caterer must love to connect everybody and everyone
- 1:35:02and their Mama. Yeah, but can we stop Now Was
- 1:35:05enough. I thought the yeah.
- 1:35:06This was perfect. Yeah, Rowan was too much.
- 1:35:09But I always I thought already that something that has would
- 1:35:13have happened because, you know, the gentleman was like, oh,
- 1:35:15Rowan needs to go escort her or help her, whatever.
- 1:35:19I'm like, Oh no, please don't do this.
- 1:35:22Yeah, she kept saying. That how many lives?
- 1:35:27Anyways, yeah, this was the only thing I was like no, no.
- 1:35:30It took me out like it took me out.
- 1:35:32Yeah, totally too much. Lovely.
- 1:35:36Yeah. Didn't.
- 1:35:37Like it didn't like that. Episode 12, the one before that,
- 1:35:42I'm going backwards in the show, but episode 12, that was the
- 1:35:46other. This is when the waterworks
- 1:35:47started. Yeah, 'cause this was Ryongu's
- 1:35:52episode where his mom. Oh my God.
- 1:35:56Tries to commit suicide the his the reincarnation of his mom.
- 1:35:59Tries to commit suicide and Lord.
- 1:36:03Oh, when he got to say goodbye to her on the beach.
- 1:36:07No, well, that's The thing is that I started crying.
- 1:36:11Like they go into her dream and she's stuck in the dream and
- 1:36:14she's taken sleeping pill, an overdose of sleeping pills.
- 1:36:17That's her way of committing suicide.
- 1:36:20And then they're trying to convince her it's a dream and
- 1:36:23it's whole thing. That's fine.
- 1:36:24I'm not crying yet. No, no, I cried a lot when we
- 1:36:27got to learn about her past life.
- 1:36:31And oh, her past life was horrible.
- 1:36:34Yeah. And I think for me, when he
- 1:36:36realized the first time that everything that he was saying
- 1:36:41was super hurtful and so wrong, I was like, yeah, no, I'm good,
- 1:36:47never mind. It was hurtful, even if it was
- 1:36:49right. Yeah, even.
- 1:36:51If you right, it was. But you know.
- 1:36:53Don't say that the. First time that hero realized
- 1:36:55what he did. I was like.
- 1:36:58Sometimes can you just talk to people just.
- 1:37:02Ask in front of them. Hey.
- 1:37:03Mom, are you a prostitute or not?
- 1:37:05Just tell me and not say you hate her.
- 1:37:08Yeah. Oh no.
- 1:37:10But don't say you hate her and you don't want to be her son.
- 1:37:13And like, oh, so it was bad. It was bad enough, but I wasn't
- 1:37:17crying yet. I was like, damn, this is heavy.
- 1:37:18But I wasn't crying. I lost it.
- 1:37:21When you see the mom put the message in the sand for the baby
- 1:37:28that she lost in the present day because he told her in the dream
- 1:37:34you're, you can send a message to what's the name that she gave
- 1:37:39the baby the honey bee or whatever or something like that.
- 1:37:43And she'll get it. Like it'll make it to the
- 1:37:45underworld and she'll see it. So she wrote, what we see is
- 1:37:49let's meet again. And then she put, the husband
- 1:37:54gives her two little shoes and she puts it there and like, she
- 1:37:58basically sends her like 2 little shoes along with the
- 1:38:02mess. I, that's when I lost it.
- 1:38:03I, I couldn't hold it together. I was like like that kind of
- 1:38:08crying like it was bad. I think I usually struggle a lot
- 1:38:12when it's about people, kids dying, right?
- 1:38:14Like anything that's harming kids, I usually skip that.
- 1:38:18I don't like that. I work as a babysitter, nanny.
- 1:38:21I can't. I cannot because I would really
- 1:38:26jump in front of a car for my kids.
- 1:38:28They are my babies. So watching this and seeing her
- 1:38:32struggle so much, I was like, Oh my God, I wish I could just jump
- 1:38:35into the screen and help her. Like I would never judge.
- 1:38:39I help you. And then seeing him being so
- 1:38:41horrible like you, I will talk to you right now.
- 1:38:46So everything was just a lot for me watching this, right?
- 1:38:50Also, like a friend of mine just said, like, you know, a
- 1:38:53miscarriage a few times ago. No, a few months ago, like, oh
- 1:38:57God, that's a lot there. Where was our trigger warning
- 1:39:00for all of that? Suicide, yes, but you know there
- 1:39:04are more happening in that episode.
- 1:39:05They just said like suicide and I was like, no, but like it's
- 1:39:08more so. Much more.
- 1:39:10And this episode was really tough on me, especially every
- 1:39:13time it's about kids. And I get when kids are angry,
- 1:39:16they don't know how to regulate their emotions, right?
- 1:39:19And I was like, I understand you little guy, but you're breaking
- 1:39:24my heart too because I see her suffering and I see you
- 1:39:27suffering. And that's too much for me.
- 1:39:29Like him being hurt. Hurt teaching him how to read.
- 1:39:33No, stop, stop. Doing the little recitations and
- 1:39:39stuff with him like, Oh no, it was.
- 1:39:43So I started crying with the little booties that she put in
- 1:39:46the ocean for her for the baby. And then Ryongo shows up.
- 1:39:50He's got his hair cut, no more blonde in the in the hair and he
- 1:39:56breaks some rules and shows his mom her past life and she
- 1:40:01remembers everything. And he tells her he was sorry
- 1:40:05and that he's never once resented being her son and that
- 1:40:10then she says she's never once regretted being his mom and if
- 1:40:13she had to do it all over again she would still be his mom.
- 1:40:15I'm sobbing. I'm sobbing.
- 1:40:18From the little message in the sand to the end of the episode,
- 1:40:21it was like I'm on a train, can't stop the train.
- 1:40:25I'm crying, wailing. I mean, I remember also in in.
- 1:40:32I'm so bad with names. Oh, it's OK.
- 1:40:36So I, I remember like he was saying like how bad he thinks it
- 1:40:40is that people are, you know, turning to drugs, right?
- 1:40:43And then after he finds out what happened, he killed all those
- 1:40:46perpetrators, whatever, Then he also turns to drugs.
- 1:40:49Like, you know, the whole cycle of him first hating all those
- 1:40:52people and overdoses and then dying on an overdose like the
- 1:40:55people that he hated. I was like, yeah.
- 1:40:59And that's also explore he. Didn't he hated?
- 1:41:01Himself, he was like, I hate myself so much, I'm turning to
- 1:41:04the exact same people that I wanted to get rid of.
- 1:41:06Yeah. I was like, oh wow.
- 1:41:08And he was a really great actor in those scenes, right?
- 1:41:11Like, I loved his acting. I know he was so good.
- 1:41:15I was really surprised. I was broke episodes.
- 1:41:20What is this, 12/13/14? Yeah, triple homicide right
- 1:41:26there. Like it took me to clean out.
- 1:41:27One after the other. And they were like, you know
- 1:41:29what, If you didn't cry before, we're going to make sure you cry
- 1:41:31now. Yeah, like watch, OK.
- 1:41:35No tears and. It started kind of.
- 1:41:36It started kind of. Funny to me, I was like.
- 1:41:38Episode 12 started kind of funny to me 'cause it seemed like all
- 1:41:42of a sudden they were like, whoa, we haven't hit our product
- 1:41:45placement quota. So they had all this product
- 1:41:48placement at the front half of the front of the episode, like
- 1:41:51Mr. Pizza. Oh my God, do you?
- 1:41:52Remember, like the Mr. Pizza? I was like what the fuck is it?
- 1:41:55The whole pizza thing he visit what happened to Subway people?
- 1:41:58Let's go back to Subway. What, just because?
- 1:42:00No. And then the pizza.
- 1:42:02Had like shrimp on it and I was like what in the world?
- 1:42:06Comment about. Shrimp.
- 1:42:07I'm like no, no. And then?
- 1:42:15Ryongo's mom works in a sports clothing store that's called the
- 1:42:18South Side, but the logo looks eerily similar to The North
- 1:42:22Face. And then all the stuff that
- 1:42:24they're wearing, like Roman's wearing a jacket that has tape
- 1:42:28over The North Face logo that's clearly in their attention to.
- 1:42:33That this is so. Freaking funny I'm I'm laughing
- 1:42:36through all this. I'm sobbing, wailing by the end
- 1:42:40of the show. That's why I was like, it caught
- 1:42:42me clean like off. Guard.
- 1:42:43Yeah. No, for real.
- 1:42:45Oh my God. God.
- 1:42:46The whole pizza thing, like no. The pizza I was like, what is
- 1:42:50this? And then she big red is like I
- 1:42:54want something sweet. I'm like since when girl, and so
- 1:42:57he goes to get something. It was like another product
- 1:43:00place it. Yeah, no, sometimes the product
- 1:43:03placements are so bad. I'm like, oh, I know.
- 1:43:07Can we know? It's like, you know, let's go to
- 1:43:09Subway again. What happened to good old
- 1:43:11Subway? Subway.
- 1:43:13You know what I prefer? Subway at this point.
- 1:43:15I mean, I, I do must confess that I sometimes hate when they
- 1:43:20have like pizza brands like Pizza Hut sometimes or whatever.
- 1:43:24I'm like, I don't like that. It's always too random.
- 1:43:27Why are you showing this pizza so close?
- 1:43:29I no. Yeah.
- 1:43:32Just I don't know. They also do that a lot in Thai
- 1:43:35shows. So that's maybe because I'm
- 1:43:37like, Oh no, can we not do another?
- 1:43:41Yeah, they have. So I think there are Pizza Hut
- 1:43:43is sometimes as sponsoring, you know, the Sirius, like it's
- 1:43:46fine, but I really don't want to see that pizza right now.
- 1:43:50Like it does not match but. It doesn't mesh with anything
- 1:43:55else. No, like the aesthetic is killed
- 1:43:58right now you're you're talking about suicide.
- 1:43:59We're eating on pizza and then we're gonna go.
- 1:44:02Yeah, no. Oh my God, you're.
- 1:44:05Gonna bring that into the into the afterlife, into the company.
- 1:44:12Do you think they. Think about it.
- 1:44:15Imagine having a subway in the afterlife just for product
- 1:44:18placement. They work all in a subway.
- 1:44:20That would be so funny. OK, I have no idea.
- 1:44:22Any idea? Don't even feel like it's a
- 1:44:24stretch. I don't even feel like it's a
- 1:44:26if. If this was I don't this could
- 1:44:2927. Better than it could have
- 1:44:31happened. True it.
- 1:44:33Would have worked a little bit more.
- 1:44:35Maybe they could have like switched the arrows or something
- 1:44:37on the subway logo and it could have been like that way to
- 1:44:40heaven, that way to hell. Oh my God, I want to see that.
- 1:44:44To be honest, that would be so funny.
- 1:44:46And maybe the colours could be, I mean, Subway could have been
- 1:44:50something, yeah. Well, we have.
- 1:44:52Or it could. Have been something else like
- 1:44:53instead of subway it could have been like one way or something.
- 1:44:56You know what I'm saying? Like.
- 1:44:58So many things. I don't know what they did, but
- 1:45:00pizza, no. No Mr. Pizza at that.
- 1:45:05And it looked bad. Like, not gonna lie, it looked
- 1:45:07bad. Episode 10 they had the sexual
- 1:45:09assault case. Oh my God.
- 1:45:11With the fraternal twins. I think I posted it on my story
- 1:45:15that my rage. Was so high.
- 1:45:18Oh my God. I mean, I do listen to a lot of
- 1:45:21true crime, right? So I know that this is typical
- 1:45:25for those. It's real, right?
- 1:45:26Like this is. Fucking real.
- 1:45:28Literally everyday life for a lot of people that had been
- 1:45:31through that, right? So it was so triggering because
- 1:45:36I just recently I heard about another two crime case, you
- 1:45:42know, like Korea, get your shit together.
- 1:45:45I know that not every country is perfect, especially when it
- 1:45:47comes to that. We just have so many issues, but
- 1:45:52this was just hitting too close. Like, yeah, and it was very.
- 1:45:57And I love the this sounds terrible to say, but I love the
- 1:46:00escalation, right? And the way that they tied
- 1:46:05especially the last few cases together into the the mysterious
- 1:46:11story of like how big red and what's his face Jungkill are
- 1:46:17connected. What is their past life story
- 1:46:19that has wrecked them into the afterlife?
- 1:46:22And you have the sexual assault case and the victim blaming in
- 1:46:26that. Then you get, you know, another
- 1:46:28back story for one of the the trio, the 3 Musketeers.
- 1:46:33Then you get the comfort women. And then you get it's, it's an
- 1:46:36escalation that all leads into you're gonna understand the
- 1:46:40gravity of their back story way better when you get there.
- 1:46:45Because you know, you start also with the present.
- 1:46:48What is going on right now with a sexual assault cases?
- 1:46:52How? Nothing has changed.
- 1:46:53And then you go back in time and still the same woman are still
- 1:46:56being. Same shit.
- 1:46:57Yeah, they have been blamed. People are still not trying to
- 1:47:01help them. Oh my God.
- 1:47:04And I mean, I when I watched the the lawyer saying like, oh, what
- 1:47:09were you wearing? Why did you?
- 1:47:11I was like, if he doesn't shut the fuck up right now, I'm gonna
- 1:47:15get so mad. I can't.
- 1:47:17Yeah, yeah, the, it's the trauma of the assault plus the trauma
- 1:47:24of the trial with the Skeez Ball defense attorney victim blaming,
- 1:47:30saying why didn't she resist or scream?
- 1:47:32Why didn't she escape? The door wasn't locked.
- 1:47:35Why wouldn't she? She would have, she wouldn't
- 1:47:37have stayed if she didn't like it.
- 1:47:40Like it's so on and so forth. What was she wearing, etcetera?
- 1:47:44The brother victim blaming her as soon as he sees her, saying
- 1:47:47it wouldn't have happened if she wasn't walking alone at night,
- 1:47:49if she didn't get drunk, if she wasn't reckless, this, that and
- 1:47:51the other. And it's, it's bad.
- 1:47:55Like you, by the time you get to the end of the show, you're kind
- 1:48:00of like, you understand what Big Red says when she says she
- 1:48:06called sexual assault a murder of the soul.
- 1:48:08Yeah, Oh, my God, I love that. You couldn't clearly see like
- 1:48:12every woman and girl, this is exactly what happened.
- 1:48:15They were still there, but their soul, especially when, you know,
- 1:48:19like I I did wish that the trigger one for this one was a
- 1:48:23little bit, you know, more than just, oh, it's suicide.
- 1:48:26I'm like, no. No.
- 1:48:28This is, well, I think it said it might have said sexual
- 1:48:30assault. I don't.
- 1:48:31Maybe say it. I I just remember every time it
- 1:48:34was like suicide. I'm like, OK, but this was so.
- 1:48:38Oh my God, it was something to watch.
- 1:48:41And I think in every episode they show a not a lot, but I
- 1:48:45think they show enough where you're like, yeah, you're
- 1:48:49Jarred, right? Like you're like shaking up.
- 1:48:52And this one is no different. And the comfort women, when
- 1:48:55going back to that one real fast, that was like almost the
- 1:48:58first time that I had seen the barracks or whatever that they
- 1:49:03had kept these when. So I was like, oh, and that's
- 1:49:06real. Like they kept them in the.
- 1:49:08The. Soldiers.
- 1:49:09Going in and all soldiers. Going in and out like 70 men a
- 1:49:13day and shit like that. It was just like, so that's what
- 1:49:17I mean by historically accurate. And this one, what's eerily
- 1:49:22accurate about the sexual assault case in episode 10 is
- 1:49:27that the guy gets a very light sentence.
- 1:49:31He got like two years. And I mean, probation, I think,
- 1:49:35was a large part of it. And it's because he was drunk In
- 1:49:41Korea, that's a thing. The law recognizes being drunk
- 1:49:46as a mitigating circumstance and therefore grounds for leniency.
- 1:49:50So people commit heinous, heinous crimes while they're
- 1:49:57drunk and they get a reduced sentence.
- 1:50:00And there has been a like in recent years, there's been a lot
- 1:50:05of uproar and demand for change. And I mean.
- 1:50:09On that law in Korea. He's saying, oh, he has a future
- 1:50:13ahead and he's a promising guy. I'm like.
- 1:50:16We've heard this a million times.
- 1:50:18He was young with a bright future.
- 1:50:20He's got good grades, he's well liked, he's in medical school,
- 1:50:24blah blah blah. And I'm like, I don't give a
- 1:50:27fuck. He's a hard.
- 1:50:28But do not human being and he should be behind bars for a
- 1:50:31long, long time never come out. Please.
- 1:50:33I don't care. No.
- 1:50:36Yeah. I think if you listen to a lot
- 1:50:38of true crime that also not only talk about Western crime but
- 1:50:43also about what happens maybe in Korea, in India and etcetera.
- 1:50:46You will see that this is not just ATV show at this point,
- 1:50:50like this specific episode especially, this is what's
- 1:50:53happening right now. There's something, I mean, there
- 1:50:56are cases maybe five years ago, like I usually listen to
- 1:50:59Stephanie Sue, right? And I'm like, yeah, five years
- 1:51:02ago. There are literal pedophiles
- 1:51:05free right now. And you know, Korea and their
- 1:51:08defamation laws and whatsoever. You can even name them.
- 1:51:11You cannot show any pictures of them.
- 1:51:13And they could be your neighbor and it's totally fine.
- 1:51:18I'm like, you know? I was super angry.
- 1:51:21I had to pause a few times because I was I'm gonna throw my
- 1:51:25iPad through the window at this point and I already watched it.
- 1:51:28It was my second time watching it.
- 1:51:30I still got mad. Yeah.
- 1:51:34It's just this righteous rage that courses through you when
- 1:51:38you're watching the show, and every episode it's a new like
- 1:51:42circle of. Hell, yeah.
- 1:51:43It was really. Oh, it was a lot.
- 1:51:46And then it started just, you know, it was just a start.
- 1:51:49You're like OK watching this as a woman sometimes it's like I
- 1:51:53know but damn we're all suffering I.
- 1:51:56Know, but damn. Damn.
- 1:51:59Let's watch something happy, I guess.
- 1:52:02Now I just want us to. Talk now, yeah, that was really
- 1:52:06tough. Something that they almost lost
- 1:52:08me with was episode nine with the suicidal dog.
- 1:52:10Yeah, yeah, they almost lost me with that one.
- 1:52:14I mean, I do have a dog, right? He does live with my mom and all
- 1:52:18and I. I love pets.
- 1:52:21Not in my home, but I do love them, yes.
- 1:52:26I'm listening. I'm listening.
- 1:52:27I was like, I think I cannot relate to that because I'm not
- 1:52:31that close to my pet. Maybe people with pets can.
- 1:52:39Yeah, feel a little bit more, you know, like it felt like it
- 1:52:41was a cute story also talking about the feeling of an animal,
- 1:52:47but this was so far away from everything else.
- 1:52:51I don't know. I I don't know.
- 1:52:52I was like OK this feel like a full episode.
- 1:52:55It's like, like, 'cause they, yeah.
- 1:52:58We went from like all of a. Sudden they introduced the
- 1:53:01concept of, oh, pets and animals also have yeah, get reaped,
- 1:53:07right? Like they have grim reapers that
- 1:53:08come and collect them and they go this.
- 1:53:11Is kind of cute. As well.
- 1:53:13Yeah, but. Yeah, right.
- 1:53:17But after like experiencing the pain and suffering of actual
- 1:53:23humans and the reality of life, then you settle in with episode
- 1:53:319 and you're like Oh my God, who's suicidal?
- 1:53:33They got to save them. You think it's the you think
- 1:53:35it's Roman's sister for a hot 2nd And then.
- 1:53:40Debbie would be her. I'm like, why are you all
- 1:53:43jumping in front of cars? What's going on?
- 1:53:46Right. And then she just sits there.
- 1:53:47She just squats in the middle of the street.
- 1:53:48And I'm like. Bitch, get up.
- 1:53:50My. God who does?
- 1:53:52That you can just grab the dog and take him, you know, like to
- 1:53:55the side. What?
- 1:53:56Yeah, yeah. Did we just all get stupid or
- 1:53:58what's going on? So, but it wasn't her, it was
- 1:54:02the fucking Pomeranian that she saved.
- 1:54:06And I was like, oh, that's a swerve.
- 1:54:09That's a real swerve on the show.
- 1:54:12I. Remember watching for the first
- 1:54:13time like. Is this for real right now?
- 1:54:16Yeah, he. Was trying to save his owner.
- 1:54:19Get attention that his owner is like the dog we are talking.
- 1:54:23OK, so who let the dogs? Out wonderful like Big Red said
- 1:54:28this wonderful speech to the dog and I was like, this speech
- 1:54:33works, but it's a dog. So she says this.
- 1:54:37Do you have any idea what kind of hell it is to part ways with
- 1:54:39a without a proper goodbye? It's no different than choosing
- 1:54:43an eternal hell just to escape the pain in the present, which
- 1:54:46is like aha later in the show when you find out what the hell
- 1:54:50hurts history is You left because you didn't want him to
- 1:54:53feel that pain. But that should be up to the
- 1:54:55people who are left behind. It would be selfish not to let
- 1:54:59him even do that. Of course it's hard and sad when
- 1:55:01a family member you love is dying, but you need to go
- 1:55:04through that time to be able to miss your loved ones freely.
- 1:55:07It might hurt to think about them immediately, but the sense
- 1:55:09of longing is created because of happy memories.
- 1:55:12And I'm like, this is a wonderful.
- 1:55:13Speech. Why not too a human?
- 1:55:15It's a wonderful concept. But it's a two way fucking.
- 1:55:19Oh, and you? Know about a pomery?
- 1:55:21OK, but listen, I could have handled that if not in the end
- 1:55:26that damn dog was licking all over his mouth like when he was
- 1:55:30saying goodbye. The dog's acting was not even a
- 1:55:33plus. It was like.
- 1:55:35B minus Yeah. And then B was licking his
- 1:55:37owner's mouth all the time. Like, this is absolutely
- 1:55:39disgusting. I refuse.
- 1:55:40Absolutely not. Yeah, I like.
- 1:55:42I get it, you all love your dogs and go for it, but stop letting
- 1:55:47your dog lick your mouth. We're all this.
- 1:55:51We're the same. Family I can.
- 1:55:53This was so disgusting. I lost my.
- 1:55:55Shit, I can look the dog. Some people are here like, oh,
- 1:55:58the dog's dog's mouths are cleaner than human mouths and
- 1:56:01like humans don't normally eat. Shit, yeah, he's also not
- 1:56:05licking. Other people's do, as far as I
- 1:56:06know. Like at least I'm not OK, I'm
- 1:56:09not doing that right, but not judging people that do.
- 1:56:13That I don't know. Did you eat grass Stew?
- 1:56:15Yeah. Oh, OK, So what are we talking
- 1:56:18about? It's.
- 1:56:19Disgusting. I was just like.
- 1:56:22Don't let your dogs lick you in the face, in the mouth.
- 1:56:26I mean, they showed it for quite a long time.
- 1:56:28Like that's too much. It was a.
- 1:56:29It was. A long little scene.
- 1:56:31Yeah. The whole were they reunited in
- 1:56:34in the director's office? And you're like, oh.
- 1:56:38That's awkward. Yeah, that's awkward.
- 1:56:40Oh, I don't know. This whole episode was like,
- 1:56:43yeah, I get it. You all love your dogs and pets
- 1:56:47and all. It's really sad when they go
- 1:56:48and, I don't know, stop letting your dogs like, your face.
- 1:56:52Anyways, rest in peace. A little Pomeranian.
- 1:56:56I. Didn't.
- 1:56:57So the only time that I was like, OK, I kind of get it is
- 1:57:00when they reunited the dog with the owner and the owner started
- 1:57:04kind of opening up to the dog and I was like, all right, this
- 1:57:09is a little bit better because I understand the owner losing the
- 1:57:13pet. I thought that like, I
- 1:57:16understand that, like absolutely.
- 1:57:18But the dog's point of view, I was like, yeah, but I understand
- 1:57:23a in a fraction. I understand a fraction of it
- 1:57:26because obviously there's really sad stories of, you know, the
- 1:57:31owner got in a car accident and the dog wouldn't eat for weeks
- 1:57:36until the owner returned. And like, there's stories like
- 1:57:38that. Absolutely.
- 1:57:41Or the owner died. The owner died and the dog like
- 1:57:45stood vigil. At the at the.
- 1:57:47Cemetery for for the rest of its life.
- 1:57:50Like there's stories like that absolutely, 100%.
- 1:57:52It's all true, but also it's an animal.
- 1:57:57But also thing you could have never done this absurd with a
- 1:58:00cat. You could.
- 1:58:02Right, right. Like this could only be done
- 1:58:05with a dog. Like, you can't do it with,
- 1:58:07like, a chinchilla. Yeah, can't do it with a bearded
- 1:58:12dragon. Yeah, like, you know, at this
- 1:58:14point I was watching like, I don't know people why I'm
- 1:58:20watching this. This was really the only episode
- 1:58:22where I'm like, yeah, I'm sad. But also, we had the veteran
- 1:58:27episode, right? Right.
- 1:58:32Like what do you? Mean I'm not watching a dog.
- 1:58:34We had a. Fucking Korean War battle.
- 1:58:37We had so many. And we had a wonderful they
- 1:58:40recreated the Korean what? That sequence is amazing.
- 1:58:44We had, you know, before then. You're like.
- 1:58:46So many things, bullying, body shaming, like a workplace,
- 1:58:50everything we had so many things.
- 1:58:52And then we had like. Harassed into the workplace and
- 1:58:54the bulimic and then. A dog you get.
- 1:58:58A fucking dog. In episode 9, and you're like,
- 1:59:01what? You.
- 1:59:03Yeah. Taken aback.
- 1:59:04Taken aback. I mean, it's astonishing that
- 1:59:07some people would be like, oh, you just don't get him.
- 1:59:09Like, yeah, I don't. I swear, people, you cannot
- 1:59:12explain it to me in a way that I will ever get it.
- 1:59:14And I have a dog. Will I be sad when he's gone?
- 1:59:17Probably. Uh huh.
- 1:59:20I felt, you know, OK, I do have to jump in here and say we had
- 1:59:24a, a family dog for the longest time.
- 1:59:27We, it was a rescue and his name was Zeus and it was a, a
- 1:59:31miniature pinscher. Sweetest dog, the best dog we've
- 1:59:34ever had. We've had some crazy ass dogs
- 1:59:36that we've had to sell or give away and stuff when we were
- 1:59:39children, especially because we could as children, we couldn't
- 1:59:42necessarily take care of the dog.
- 1:59:44It was all down to my parents, really my mom.
- 1:59:49And so now when we're older, we got this dog.
- 1:59:51We had him for like 13 years, but he was already a rescue.
- 1:59:56We didn't know how old he was, and it was all like a guessing
- 1:59:58game as how old the dog was. The dog started doing really
- 2:00:00badly during the pandemic. He had major separation anxiety.
- 2:00:05It was awful, awful. The dog was doing horrendous.
- 2:00:09A lot of upheaval in the family, family members dying, and like
- 2:00:12the dog was doing terribly. Then he got sick and he could
- 2:00:17barely hear anymore. He's like basically deaf,
- 2:00:19basically couldn't see anything. And then he kind of had like a
- 2:00:23stroke thing. And we were like, OK, no, like,
- 2:00:25this dog is suffering every day. Like he can barely walk.
- 2:00:29So we went to go put him down. And I thought, I'm going to be
- 2:00:32strong. I love this dog.
- 2:00:35I love this dog. We've had it for many, many
- 2:00:37years, girl. When it came time to put the dog
- 2:00:41down in the middle of this pandemic, girl, you were all
- 2:00:45sobbing in the room, crying in the room.
- 2:00:49And they, I think they've seen a lot of people that have lost
- 2:00:53their shit, like putting their pets down.
- 2:00:57So they were saying really crazy shit that we were like, you
- 2:00:59would say this for a human dying, but OK, so we all kind of
- 2:01:04had our whips about us. But when it came time to
- 2:01:06actually put our dog down, it was extremely sad.
- 2:01:09It was heartbreaking. And we left, we were all
- 2:01:12different feeling different, like we left feeling so
- 2:01:14different. So I understand this feeling of
- 2:01:17like, maybe I, I probably feel sad when I when I have to let
- 2:01:21the dog go. And then when it happens, you're
- 2:01:23like, well, damn. Fuck shit that was awful.
- 2:01:26Oh my God that was the saddest thing ever.
- 2:01:30So I get that, but man, I feel like still not to the extent of
- 2:01:34an entire episode on a suicidal. Dog maybe if they make, you
- 2:01:37know, like the point of view of the owner a little bit more.
- 2:01:41Maybe, but even then, like he was a different kind of dog
- 2:01:45owner than than we evidently are.
- 2:01:47Yeah, I, I don't know, I guess this is something that maybe the
- 2:01:53director or writer can explain to us.
- 2:01:55Maybe they had a dog and they were trying, you know, to also
- 2:01:58heal. Yeah.
- 2:01:59So I'm judging that it was there, to be honest.
- 2:02:04But you know what? If you felt like it was
- 2:02:07necessary. So people are ready for what's
- 2:02:09coming next. Fair enough.
- 2:02:11I'll just assume that's what they're trying to do.
- 2:02:13Right. You know, like a little laugh in
- 2:02:15the middle little bit. Yeah.
- 2:02:18Hey, at least this time the human is surviving and it's just
- 2:02:21the dark dying fun. Amazing.
- 2:02:24Right, the human survive. Oh my God, episode.
- 2:02:27I know episode eight they had to save the criminal who was the
- 2:02:31suicide broker. Oh my.
- 2:02:33God. Bro The funny thing I just a
- 2:02:37few. Weeks ago, there was I listened
- 2:02:39to this true crime episode talking exactly about something
- 2:02:43like that. Like there was a suicide broker
- 2:02:45in Japan. Yes.
- 2:02:47And I was like, oh, now I remember because when I first
- 2:02:51watched it, I didn't I was like listened to true crime.
- 2:02:53I didn't do this episode yet. And I was like, Oh my God, this
- 2:02:58actually happened in real life. Like, this is not something
- 2:03:02because, you know, when you watch it for something, it's
- 2:03:04like, no way. And there is no way that
- 2:03:07someone's really doing something like that.
- 2:03:08Going out of their way to help people die instead of helping
- 2:03:12them live, like, you know, doing our RM team's job, right?
- 2:03:17But there is literally a person that did that.
- 2:03:19And I think he is now free because, you know, they were
- 2:03:24trying to die and he was just helping.
- 2:03:26Us right. You took it.
- 2:03:28That took me back. I'm sorry.
- 2:03:29Yeah, no, I, I, I if I remember correctly, I'll, I can send you
- 2:03:32the episode. But yeah, he the sentence was
- 2:03:36not too severe or anything and was like, what do you mean?
- 2:03:41But it's Oh my God, he literally did that.
- 2:03:44People were trying, you know, on Twitter X whatever, saying hey,
- 2:03:48I don't feel good. And he would text them.
- 2:03:51Hey, need someone to listen to who can come to me And yeah.
- 2:03:56Horrible. Oh my God.
- 2:03:57It was the same thing. Yeah.
- 2:03:59And stealing these poor people's money.
- 2:04:03Yes. To tell them how to die
- 2:04:04painlessly. Was He was the person?
- 2:04:06Who was actually inviting them to his place?
- 2:04:08I think there's two cases that are similar, but this one that I
- 2:04:12remember, he was trying to first of all get their money.
- 2:04:16And also it was trying to get mainly girls and, you know, SA
- 2:04:20and whatever. Oh.
- 2:04:22God. But also saying, yeah, I can
- 2:04:24help you die. And yeah, helping them in a
- 2:04:28really horrible way. So yeah, it's horrible.
- 2:04:33So people are actually out there.
- 2:04:36Just have no shame. Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:04:38Not shame. Oh my God.
- 2:04:40My God. So, OK, so this guy in the show,
- 2:04:47he was like getting high off of watching these people die.
- 2:04:51This was his thing and. He was so gross.
- 2:04:53This actor was so good. Too good at acting.
- 2:04:58He was chewing up scenery. Yeah, just acting a literal
- 2:05:01psycho. Oh yeah, I mean, it was insane
- 2:05:03because the first time when I watched it, I did not recognize,
- 2:05:06I did not see that he would be like part of the group saying
- 2:05:09that they want to die. Right.
- 2:05:12And then you get, this was A twist, right?
- 2:05:14And you're like, I'm so glad that the other two escaped,
- 2:05:17Like, escaped. Not listened to Rowan and be
- 2:05:19like, OK, you know, never mind. It's not that serious.
- 2:05:21I'm going back home. I'm so sorry, guys.
- 2:05:23If I talk to it a little bit more, you know, casual.
- 2:05:25It's just the way that I handled this kind of thing.
- 2:05:28Anyways, I was like OK. This one they did.
- 2:05:32Escape, though, Yeah, but they escaped.
- 2:05:35But Oh my God, no. I was so mad at him and the way
- 2:05:38that he talked when he was still on the ground, still acting all
- 2:05:43my team like, oh, you're not gonna be better than me, Just
- 2:05:45kill me. And then we're gonna see.
- 2:05:47I'm like, oh, Merwin was stronger than me.
- 2:05:51To be honest, I'm pretty sure. I would have stomped his head
- 2:05:55in. Oh my God.
- 2:05:56I. Wouldn't have even waited for
- 2:05:59the poison to take effect. Oh my God.
- 2:06:02They would have to lock me up. No, that this comes into play
- 2:06:06right, because they they talk through this mandate of their
- 2:06:12mission is to save everyone regardless of what they've done.
- 2:06:15If they're a criminal, if their soul is rotten, it doesn't
- 2:06:18matter. And it comes back to what the
- 2:06:22director said earlier in the show that like, she's not fair.
- 2:06:25Yeah, the Jade Emperor is not fair, but she is impartial.
- 2:06:33Yeah, this episode was really hard because I just know I'm the
- 2:06:37type of person I would have probably made a different
- 2:06:41decision. I cannot handle this kind of
- 2:06:45thing. And I think that I myself would
- 2:06:47also be like, I need to go or I'm gonna do something here that
- 2:06:52I'm gonna regret, but I'm still gonna be the bad person here.
- 2:06:58Oh yeah, I said. I think I've said this in other
- 2:07:01episodes. I have a little violent heart,
- 2:07:04and this wouldn't have ended the way Rowan did things in the
- 2:07:10episode if it was me, he said. I didn't want to become the same
- 2:07:14as him and I'm like, you would never have been the same as.
- 2:07:18Him I'm like I, I wouldn't be the same.
- 2:07:20It was just. Because, you know, if I'm doing
- 2:07:24the whole math here, I'm still, you know, the whole.
- 2:07:28I'm doing the math. I'm helping more people here.
- 2:07:31You know you have to sacrifice one if I have to sacrifice this
- 2:07:34one, I'm happy. We can do that no problem.
- 2:07:37I I will sleep so well afterwards.
- 2:07:40Probably not, but you know I. Would sleep so.
- 2:07:42Well, afterwards, but also. He was already poisoned, right?
- 2:07:45So all you had to do is he was he poisoned himself.
- 2:07:48I'm like, OK then. Bye.
- 2:07:51I'm called the ambulance in a few minutes.
- 2:07:54Any lost words? No.
- 2:07:56OK. Oh God yeah.
- 2:07:58But that actor I was pretty impressed with the the twist
- 2:08:02first of all of him being his code name or not code name but
- 2:08:07his online name was Beta Male. I don't remember the name.
- 2:08:13Oh, Oh my. God, it's like, Oh my God.
- 2:08:16And then? The So that's how he showed up
- 2:08:18as initially was beta male and then it turns out he was
- 2:08:21actually also Grim Reaper. Yeah, Oh.
- 2:08:25Quote UN Quote The guy that was the broker the.
- 2:08:30Broker, Oh my God, that sounds so so weird the whole story I
- 2:08:36would just wish it wasn't true that something like that could
- 2:08:39never happen that no one would be this horrible to know use
- 2:08:43something people are suffering and they're like I'm gonna use
- 2:08:47that and I'm gonna make mine out of it I'm.
- 2:08:48Gonna take advantage of that. That's the word, thank you.
- 2:08:51And I, Oh my God. But they have people like that
- 2:08:54and it's so horrible. Piece of shit.
- 2:08:56Super horrible. Oh my God, Yeah, no.
- 2:08:59Yeah. Oh.
- 2:09:00I also liked in this episode how they were kind of like, well if
- 2:09:04we don't handle this, if he doesn't get his punishment now,
- 2:09:09he'll get it later and he gets his because they saved him.
- 2:09:15He gets punished while he's alive.
- 2:09:19I love. That.
- 2:09:20The punishment and the punishment was like, it comes
- 2:09:24out that he did all of this stuff, so he's going to get
- 2:09:26punished criminally, like legally for it.
- 2:09:29And then they also did this cosmic punishment of like, he
- 2:09:33lost his hearing and then he lost his ability to speak
- 2:09:36because of the poison that he gave himself.
- 2:09:41I still don't know if it was enough, you know what I'm
- 2:09:43saying? Like I was like, OK, why can't
- 2:09:45he just rot in hell for eternity?
- 2:09:46Like that seems OK too. I mean, that's what I.
- 2:09:51He got scared, he got scared when shit Jungkill I literally
- 2:09:56his name blinks. I blink on it every time
- 2:10:00Jungkill ABS the voice shows up and sort of helps them because
- 2:10:05he puts a fear of God in in the dude.
- 2:10:08He gives him a little vision of hell.
- 2:10:13He's like this is what you deserve.
- 2:10:14Your soul is just rotten. All the shit you've done, this
- 2:10:17is what you deserve. And he's like, save me, Save me
- 2:10:21because I want to escape this cosmic punishment, like this
- 2:10:24eternal punishment that I'm going to get if I continue to
- 2:10:27die. And I was like, yeah, no, let's
- 2:10:30just leave it status quo. And also thought like, dude, you
- 2:10:35cannot. Escape.
- 2:10:36You're so scared of it, this. Is going to happen.
- 2:10:39I mean, now or later, it doesn't matter.
- 2:10:41But you did things. You deserve way worse.
- 2:10:44So yeah, no, he would be dying. I would be watching uh huh, like
- 2:10:48I did now, but also I just wrote down like this was the first
- 2:10:52episode that we saw Mr. Sexy voice as I wrote here they.
- 2:10:57Saw I like that, Mister sexy. Voice.
- 2:10:59Yeah, cool Gun for the first time in his nightmares.
- 2:11:02This was the first episode that we got like, this tiny hint that
- 2:11:05she was there. So I think I was focusing more
- 2:11:07on that because I was getting way too angry.
- 2:11:10It's like, Oh my God. I can't.
- 2:11:12We were like, let's focus on this bright spot over here of
- 2:11:15like, impending drama versus this horrific.
- 2:11:18Oh my God. Storyline that's in front of me
- 2:11:21right now because I there's no I feel kind of helpless right now.
- 2:11:26There's no way to like, fix this.
- 2:11:28Episode 7 The Bulimic Woman. Oh wow, yeah.
- 2:11:33I mean, they talked about so many things.
- 2:11:34Immediately that it wasn't the fat girl.
- 2:11:37I was like, it's not her. She's.
- 2:11:38Not she is. Living her life, she.
- 2:11:39Loves herself. She loves.
- 2:11:41She she was good, yeah. Mm hmm.
- 2:11:44Yeah. So I clocked that it was the the
- 2:11:48really thin woman initially. And they were like, it's got to
- 2:11:52be the other, it's got to be the overweight woman.
- 2:11:55And I'm like, OK, why? OK, why is it got to be the
- 2:11:59overweight lady that's suicidal? I mean.
- 2:12:02But they were treating her like shit too.
- 2:12:04Like it was bottom line, the episode was saying women's
- 2:12:08bodies can just never be. Everybody got a comment.
- 2:12:12Everybody had to say something. It was like whether you're fat,
- 2:12:16skinny, too skinny, too fat, it was nothing.
- 2:12:20You cannot be perfect. Fucking shut.
- 2:12:23Up. Let.
- 2:12:25Let. Women B And I mean, I love the
- 2:12:27girl that will, I don't know, like chubby, a little bit
- 2:12:32weight, had a little bit of weight on.
- 2:12:34I just loved her attitude because I usually don't show
- 2:12:36this type of character in Korean dramas being happy with
- 2:12:40themselves, right? Usually you just get like a
- 2:12:41depressed girl that's overweight or whatever and she hates
- 2:12:45herself. And we finally got a confident,
- 2:12:48bigger woman. And I loved her.
- 2:12:50Who's not in a fat suit, by the way?
- 2:12:51Not a skinny woman in a fat suit.
- 2:12:54So I was like, OK. How amazing is that?
- 2:12:56We have never seen that before. We all know that there's always
- 2:12:59some underlying. Yeah.
- 2:13:01Bullying happening. But this one was great because
- 2:13:05even when she was always confronted, even by the boss,
- 2:13:07she was like, yeah, so I like food and this is a good
- 2:13:10restaurant and why would you not enjoy this?
- 2:13:13Whatever I'm eating right now, right?
- 2:13:15So I love that. And especially the conversation
- 2:13:18she had with the polemic girl in the end, it was super great.
- 2:13:22I love that 'cause you have like the contrast of both, you know?
- 2:13:26She is happy with herself and the polemic girl is learning to
- 2:13:31love herself again. To love herself again, to find a
- 2:13:35happy medium. Yeah, to eat.
- 2:13:37Without hating herself. And the whole workplace
- 2:13:40harassment, Oh my God. Oh no.
- 2:13:43It's a classic and oh funny thing I read and on MDLA comment
- 2:13:49was like what do you think is happening corporate world
- 2:13:52because she was like or her him. I don't know that this episode
- 2:13:57was quite unrealistic, as if in this age and time they are still
- 2:14:01this kind of harassment at work like.
- 2:14:04Yeah. Oh, OK, so let's pause here In
- 2:14:06Korea, there are no anti discrimination laws at all.
- 2:14:11So. So yeah, I mean, there's nothing
- 2:14:13in place to stop this at a legal from a legal standpoint.
- 2:14:17They can do whatever the fuck they want.
- 2:14:18They can say whatever the fuck they want.
- 2:14:19There's no protections for any. Citizen, right.
- 2:14:24I'm like, I get it if you have like this perfect working
- 2:14:28environment for you, but I I've been there.
- 2:14:31I had bosses say things. I'm like, excuse me, I don't
- 2:14:35think you should be saying that. Sideways.
- 2:14:37That's not good. Or interviews where people ask
- 2:14:39me about boyfriends. Like you're not allowed to do
- 2:14:41that. I'm gonna go.
- 2:14:42Not allowed. So we have lost for that.
- 2:14:45And I'm like, this comment just shows that some people need to
- 2:14:50do a little bit more research before commenting and maybe
- 2:14:54after watching a drama, just, you know, type on Google, Hey,
- 2:14:58harassment at work, Korea or any other.
- 2:15:01Place what is the culture? What is?
- 2:15:03The Yeah. What's the law where there are
- 2:15:06lack of? Laws, sometimes the lack of
- 2:15:09understanding how some cultures work or laws you see that like
- 2:15:14special dish drama. I think some people should have
- 2:15:17done a little bit of research. Right, Yeah.
- 2:15:23Mm. Hmm.
- 2:15:24The next one, not next one. We're literally going backwards
- 2:15:27through the drama. But episode 6, they have the
- 2:15:31Korean War vet episode where he collects cardboard as an elderly
- 2:15:37man. This is.
- 2:15:39Again, this is real like there is.
- 2:15:43A. So many elderly people in Korea
- 2:15:47do this as their job, not only cardboard, they pick up and sell
- 2:15:53everything that can be recycled. They collect plastic boxes,
- 2:15:56newspapers, books, appliances, wooden furniture, everything.
- 2:16:01Elderly poverty in Korea is overwhelmingly the highest among
- 2:16:05OECD countries, and they get remarkably little for the amount
- 2:16:10of work and hours that they put in.
- 2:16:13I'm talking like maybe $15 a day for all of they and they work
- 2:16:19the whole day picking up. A cardboard.
- 2:16:21I mean, we even saw like in this episode, he was not only picking
- 2:16:25cardboard, right? He had like this trash on the
- 2:16:27side and he was picking everything.
- 2:16:29And then when they were green, Rivers said, hey, but it's
- 2:16:31dirty. It's like, no, it's no problem.
- 2:16:33Just pick it all up. And it was like, this is so
- 2:16:37heartbreaking. Like I know that this is a
- 2:16:39veteran. Yeah, this is someone who fought
- 2:16:41for this. Country.
- 2:16:42Like for real, especially in Korea has touched us.
- 2:16:45You know, like the war in Korea Horrific, right?
- 2:16:48We so many times talking about it already, like this man, he
- 2:16:53was fighting for all of you. He was always throwing the hat
- 2:16:58when he said why he does that. He's like, no, I'm gone.
- 2:17:02Like people, what the fuck? This is so heartbreaking.
- 2:17:06He's like, yeah, I just want them to know that I did
- 2:17:09something. Yeah.
- 2:17:11His whole back story was super sad.
- 2:17:14The man that he held, the young boy, the.
- 2:17:17Man that he helped and then he was.
- 2:17:19Yeah, he was. He had his own Lieutenant Dan
- 2:17:22moment, and it was resentment there and they had to get
- 2:17:26closure out of it. And he had to realize that he
- 2:17:30wasn't to blame for ruining his man's life, for saving it.
- 2:17:33I think it was also really cute when they showed him.
- 2:17:37So now, you know, like the whole view of soul and like, hey, you
- 2:17:41fought for that. Without you we would not be
- 2:17:43here. It's like, oh, that's cute
- 2:17:45because usually we sometimes forget what happened in the past
- 2:17:49and what made us get here, right?
- 2:17:52Like Germany has like a huge history, horrible history.
- 2:17:57And we do learn a lot about it in school.
- 2:17:59But sometimes we just forget that a lot of lives has been
- 2:18:01lost. Just so you know, the way that
- 2:18:04we live now, I think to the people that helped us get here,
- 2:18:09it was super nice to see that I'm showing him, yes, cute.
- 2:18:14Uh huh. Yeah, when she took him to that
- 2:18:16lookout. I don't know what skyscraper
- 2:18:18that was, but it's this giant view of soul.
- 2:18:21And. Saying that his life was not
- 2:18:23meaningless and his bravery brought about an era of peace
- 2:18:28and this bright future that's he's staring out at.
- 2:18:31And I did cry when all of the Reapers came to pay their
- 2:18:37respects to him. I mean, especially because went
- 2:18:41to ask for help me like, hey, can you do this?
- 2:18:44And Mr. Grumpy was like, no, that's your business.
- 2:18:49I'm just collecting the soul and my minions can do that.
- 2:18:52And then he still, you know, got there with everybody was like,
- 2:18:56OK. He's a good guy.
- 2:18:59Oh my God, I like was so emotional during this and she
- 2:19:04said the director comes too. To see him off.
- 2:19:08And she said at the end of her little speech, your soul will be
- 2:19:11blessed beyond what your life has been worth.
- 2:19:13I don't. Know.
- 2:19:13Yeah, no. I was crying.
- 2:19:16I was crying. So much here.
- 2:19:18And then Rowan is also just crying and I love it.
- 2:19:24This is. He was crying a lot.
- 2:19:26Yeah, but he's crying here, and the old man has already passed
- 2:19:30away, and it's his soul talking to him.
- 2:19:34And he comes out and says, why are you crying when I'm going
- 2:19:37somewhere nice? I lost it all over again.
- 2:19:39Like he cugs Ro Wu and Ro Wu and salutes.
- 2:19:42Him I. Lost it was a lot for me I'm
- 2:19:44like, Oh my God, that was such a tiny cute detail because you
- 2:19:49know a lot of the like the Korean men have to go to
- 2:19:53military service. So Arun was, Oh yeah, Karun was
- 2:19:55definitely familiar with it, right?
- 2:19:58And usually seeing something like that from a country that
- 2:20:01has this whole respect your elders thing, it's so sad 'cause
- 2:20:07why you're respecting your elders, maybe in the company,
- 2:20:09but not the one picking up trash in on the street, right?
- 2:20:12Like that was super sad. Anyway, So I, I mean, there's
- 2:20:21more, obviously we could keep going back through the episodes,
- 2:20:24but I think those are the most impactful.
- 2:20:28Yeah, honestly. I mean, everything else we
- 2:20:31already know, right? Like the whole bullying,
- 2:20:34celebrity bullying, it's always some kind of bullying, right?
- 2:20:38So both episodes are impactful as well, but.
- 2:20:43Right. I think the only thing that I
- 2:20:46wanted to talk about was some sort of, I don't want to say
- 2:20:50lore, but sort of establishing like what the conditions of like
- 2:20:57the suicides and the, you know, what is fate?
- 2:21:01What is the coincidence and stuff in life, in this in life.
- 2:21:06And let me see. So Big Red talks to Rowan about
- 2:21:11this because he's asking questions.
- 2:21:12He's he's the audience proxy. And so she says, other than
- 2:21:18natural causes, deaths are caused by a myriad of outside
- 2:21:21factors like crimes or accidents, not karmic debt
- 2:21:25incurred in people's past lives or fate, Which is a huge thing
- 2:21:31to say after he asks why the musician in that episode lost so
- 2:21:36many people in his life. What did he do in his past life
- 2:21:39to deserve losing all of these people?
- 2:21:43And she says he didn't do anything like there was nothing
- 2:21:45that he did to deserve all of these people dying.
- 2:21:52There was no cars, karmic debt that he is is paying for.
- 2:21:59And I just came up of watching Autumn in My Heart, which is a
- 2:22:032000 K. I'm talking about the year 2000
- 2:22:07K drama where the tragic ending is also deemed a car, a karmic
- 2:22:12punishment for their love flying in the face of like, Confucian
- 2:22:16ideals, which includes filial piety.
- 2:22:19And many K dramas subscribe to the somewhat religious idea that
- 2:22:26your life will inform your past life will inform your current
- 2:22:29life. And so this is a refreshingly
- 2:22:33modern idea that's so true. That takes sin out of the
- 2:22:37equation. Like you didn't do anything to
- 2:22:39deserve something bad happening to you.
- 2:22:41She basically says like shit just happened.
- 2:22:43Yeah, I mean she really sad. Like, yeah, I mean, you can
- 2:22:46influence how you live your life, but you cannot influence
- 2:22:48how other people are living their life, right.
- 2:22:50You have criminals, they decide to be a criminal.
- 2:22:53They are bad people and they will of course that maybe at
- 2:22:55some point influence your life, but you did nothing to do that.
- 2:22:58When I first heard it was like, usually it's not like that.
- 2:23:02So it was first of all, I don't know if I like it, but also I
- 2:23:05did, even though I thought it was a little bit sad for this
- 2:23:09poor guy who has lost so many people.
- 2:23:11Like I just wished he was like a bad guy and was deserving this.
- 2:23:15So it makes sense in my mind to not be so heartbreaking, but
- 2:23:20getting the words he did nothing.
- 2:23:21He was just existing, but everybody else around him took
- 2:23:26different decisions and that was it.
- 2:23:29You know the output of like heartbreaking but.
- 2:23:32And it affected him. Yeah, that's.
- 2:23:33So true. But they also introduced the
- 2:23:36concept of the red string of fate in this episode for those
- 2:23:39who are who don't know like what that is, who have never watched
- 2:23:45a show or any any K media with with this concept in it before.
- 2:23:49She says. The good thing is, no matter how
- 2:23:52many times those two meaning the couple in that episode, how many
- 2:23:56times those two are reborn, they will meet again in the end.
- 2:24:00Roman asks is that what you call Inyon, which is in the show?
- 2:24:04It's translated to destiny. Inyon is like this bigger kind
- 2:24:08of concept, but she says people who are destined to be with each
- 2:24:12other are connected by a red thread beyond their souls.
- 2:24:16Unless they break that thread themselves, AKA suicide, they
- 2:24:20will meet that person again no matter how many times you are
- 2:24:23reborn. I mean, I absolutely love
- 2:24:26everything with the red string ride.
- 2:24:28Even like in sea dramas when you have like the realm and they
- 2:24:31have like this one person that has to deal with marriages and
- 2:24:34like, yeah, I love you already. I don't care.
- 2:24:38So. I just love this whole idea.
- 2:24:41This is the romantic side of me and I'm like, OK, having a
- 2:24:44soulmate, even I don't really believe in that.
- 2:24:47I just like the idea of it. I think it's such a beautiful
- 2:24:49idea that you have a soulmate. That what, as long as you don't
- 2:24:53make anything to, you know, never see this person again,
- 2:24:57you'll always meet each other and the episode with the singer,
- 2:25:01I was just like, OK, they're super cute together.
- 2:25:04They worked so hard and I. That could be an entire episode,
- 2:25:08could have been a whole K. Drama.
- 2:25:09Oh, for real? I was like, yeah, I'm super
- 2:25:11invested. I loved it so much.
- 2:25:13It's like a typical K drama. But the girl just said, you
- 2:25:16know, I'm moving in, buddy. Yeah, this apartment looks so
- 2:25:20cozy right now. I love that she was.
- 2:25:23I also loved that she was. The.
- 2:25:24Strong one in the relationship. She made a marriage proposal.
- 2:25:28I love that. When a woman as in marriage, I'm
- 2:25:31like, yeah, let's do that, girl. Yeah, the whole red string
- 2:25:35thing. I love it.
- 2:25:36So I think I was more intrigued by the whole idea of having your
- 2:25:41soul mate in in all of the episodes.
- 2:25:44Yeah. Than everything else.
- 2:25:47Yeah, inion. If you scroll back in the
- 2:25:53podcast feed, there's an episode on the movie Past Lives that
- 2:25:56goes into more detail on what inion is because there's a
- 2:25:59literal definition of it in the movie.
- 2:26:01But inion is a Korean word that means fate or Providence.
- 2:26:06And this is coming from this is scary, but Google AI overview.
- 2:26:11This is the probably the first and last time I'm ever going to
- 2:26:13read this out loud because I don't like AI, but it's
- 2:26:18specifically used to describe the relationships between
- 2:26:21people. It's thought to come from
- 2:26:22Buddhism and reincarnation, and refers to the strings of fate
- 2:26:25that connect people throughout their reincarnated lives.
- 2:26:27For example, if two strangers accidentally brushed past each
- 2:26:31other on the street, it could be considered an inion because it
- 2:26:34might mean they had something in common in a past life.
- 2:26:37I love. That which I think is a direct
- 2:26:39quote from the movie Past lives so that AI is stealing from the
- 2:26:43movie anyway. Yikes, you're laughing, but
- 2:26:50yeah. No, it's fine.
- 2:26:51Long story short, I wanted to say what Indian was because I
- 2:26:55almost feel like destiny is not a good like word to encompass
- 2:27:01the concept of Indian. I feel like if you consume a lot
- 2:27:04of media that talks about that topic that has people with the
- 2:27:07whole red string of fate and you get a yeah, better understanding
- 2:27:12of it. Because for me, just really
- 2:27:14like, yeah, I get it. But I need to see it work out in
- 2:27:17a way. And I love how Asian dramas will
- 2:27:19always have this in a lot of dramas.
- 2:27:23I I just really love this whole idea.
- 2:27:26And I mean, even being not Only Connect to your soulmate, but
- 2:27:30people that you knew in your past life, friends, family, just
- 2:27:34people to have like a strong connection with.
- 2:27:36It's such an amazing idea. Just even right now, like
- 2:27:38knowing my friends, I'm like, hey, you know what?
- 2:27:41Even if it's romantic, in my next life, knowing that these
- 2:27:45people could still be around me, I'm like, yeah, I love that.
- 2:27:48I just love the idea of it. It's.
- 2:27:50It's a nice romantic. Idea it's really is.
- 2:27:52I even think about getting a tattoo with the whole red string
- 2:27:54going on. Oh.
- 2:27:57Nice. I love it.
- 2:27:58It's yeah, it's a really romantic concept, but it just
- 2:28:03works for me. Almost not every time.
- 2:28:08I think that's. Pretty much the end of my notes.
- 2:28:10I mean, there's other things like that.
- 2:28:12Obviously the first story was a school bully.
- 2:28:15Yeah. A story.
- 2:28:21It's each story is successively worse so.
- 2:28:26I mean I. Don't know it.
- 2:28:28It was just getting. If there's.
- 2:28:31Anything remotely triggering to you, it's probably an entire
- 2:28:35episode of Tomorrow. I mean this drama, it's good and
- 2:28:41will leave you traumatized. Like you will need therapy after
- 2:28:44that. Yeah, you definitely would need.
- 2:28:47That I was. My eyes were swollen the whole
- 2:28:49day because I was crying. But also this drama reminded
- 2:28:52reminded me a lot, at least a little bit of Hotel de Luna.
- 2:28:55I don't know if you watched that, but I watched it.
- 2:28:58Yeah, so I dropped Hotel de Luna.
- 2:29:00Yeah, I. Watched it because I think I was
- 2:29:03in Hong Kong and they had it like on the board thing.
- 2:29:07I'm like, you know what? I want to watch this.
- 2:29:10I mean, they also did have my theorists, but I did not want to
- 2:29:12watch it on a plane. I want to watch it at home.
- 2:29:15If I have to cry, I want to be able to cry.
- 2:29:17I. Wanted to cry in the privacy of
- 2:29:21my. Own yeah, you know, I don't want
- 2:29:22people to see me crying. That's embarrassing.
- 2:29:24We don't do that. So but I did see a little bit of
- 2:29:28like, you know, resemblance, like the main character having
- 2:29:31to find that one person she has to save the whole.
- 2:29:34Each episode had someone with a story.
- 2:29:37I mean, of course, Hotel de Luna, sorry if there's a spoiler
- 2:29:40for you, but everybody's dead. That will tell their story.
- 2:29:44Yeah. And here we are trying to save
- 2:29:46the people, right? It's a hotel for ghosts, Yeah, I
- 2:29:49mean. And I mean, it was enjoyable.
- 2:29:51I mean, but I was also in Hong Kong watching at it at some
- 2:29:54point. I was more tired than anything
- 2:29:56after walking around and watching it.
- 2:29:58I did finish it though, I just didn't see the chemistry
- 2:30:03whatsoever. I don't know what people are
- 2:30:04talking about, but it's not. Big.
- 2:30:05Oh, OK, OK. So we got more chemistry here.
- 2:30:10And yeah, but I did see like, you know, each episode having
- 2:30:14the story talking about people dying or dead or whatever, just
- 2:30:18helping you get through loss of or losing someone, trying to get
- 2:30:23through life, kind of. I did get like a similar vibe
- 2:30:26but that's about it. I really like tomorrow and I
- 2:30:32hope that some of these things will that we talked about shed
- 2:30:35light on some of the storylines and the back stories and some of
- 2:30:41the cultural elements that are in the show that maybe flew over
- 2:30:45your head, because I think it's important like this is very for
- 2:30:51new K drama fans especially, and you're watching because you're a
- 2:30:54fan of row wound. That's fine, I'm sure Rowan
- 2:30:59would love for you to understand fully the context of the show as
- 2:31:02well. So pretty sure pretty sure I can
- 2:31:06speak on Rowan on that thing. So I.
- 2:31:10Think we can speak? To the end of my notes in Korea.
- 2:31:13No, Yeah, yeah, I quite, I don't want to say I enjoyed the show,
- 2:31:18but I really enjoyed the show. Yeah, if that makes any sense.
- 2:31:21Like it was good. I mean, I'm someone who usually
- 2:31:24doesn't watch things with a sad ending.
- 2:31:26I try to avoid that and well. It wasn't a sad ending usually.
- 2:31:32How did you feel about that? Like?
- 2:31:33No I I love the ending to be honest.
- 2:31:36I it would have been weird if they forced them to be together
- 2:31:38right? It does.
- 2:31:39It would. I would have dropped it then.
- 2:31:42You're talking about Big Red and yeah.
- 2:31:44Like if there was too much romance going on, this would be
- 2:31:47just wrong. It wouldn't have worked.
- 2:31:49But usually I try to avoid things that are depressing and
- 2:31:52sad and don't make me, you know, I did laugh, but I also had a
- 2:31:56lot of tears in my eyes while laughing.
- 2:31:57So usually I try to avoid that. But this drama, I was like, you
- 2:32:01know what? I'm so happy and glad that I
- 2:32:04watched it. I learned a lot as well, and
- 2:32:07it's amazing to get like this kind of insight sometimes in a
- 2:32:10culture that I'm not part of. And I think that even for
- 2:32:15Koreans, especially, talking about certain topics like the
- 2:32:17comfort room and women and just general the treatment of women
- 2:32:21in society was super important. Especially right now.
- 2:32:24We all know that Korea is struggling a lot with that.
- 2:32:28So I love that. Entertaining is the wrong word.
- 2:32:33You're right, but also the right, wrong and right.
- 2:32:37It's not black and white, but I love that.
- 2:32:41Mm hmm. I think the show's remarkable
- 2:32:44and it definitely defied expectations because I don't
- 2:32:48expect such a deep show with a lot of pathos from an idol.
- 2:32:57Yeah. Like an idol star in it, even
- 2:33:01though it's an ensemble cast. And I hope that more people
- 2:33:06watch. It.
- 2:33:09But not necessarily like dwell in the negative parts of it, if
- 2:33:15that makes any sense. Yeah, I get it.
- 2:33:17I think we should all focus on how the people move forward
- 2:33:20like. Like yeah, the thesis.
- 2:33:22Of the show, you know, we can all do that.
- 2:33:25And sometimes a little bit listening to other people, it
- 2:33:27goes a long way. Yes.
- 2:33:30And I that was something about the show that I thought was good
- 2:33:34was that it's not it's not that they are, there's a quote in
- 2:33:43here about it, but like the director was like, it's not that
- 2:33:47they are talking to these people and what they were going through
- 2:33:51was so insignificant and they're trying to kill themselves over
- 2:33:55something small. It's that no one's talked to
- 2:33:58them about their struggles, and it's the weight of their words,
- 2:34:06of the risk management team's words, that is inspiring them to
- 2:34:13live. I mean, we never, we just learn
- 2:34:17that they stop thinking about suicide and everything else is
- 2:34:20to them. It's not there.
- 2:34:22I'm telling them stop by, stop. It's just, hey, I listen to your
- 2:34:25story. Your emotions are valid.
- 2:34:28Everything that you're going through is about it, feel it,
- 2:34:32and then we're going to work on it and you can do it.
- 2:34:36Yeah, Oh, I have the quote. So it's episodes 4 through 5
- 2:34:41around there. The The Voice despises people
- 2:34:45who commit suicide, as he says. I can't understand why they
- 2:34:47choose death so easily when it takes only a few words to give
- 2:34:51them the will to live again. And the director says think of
- 2:34:55how they must be feeling to choose death because no one ever
- 2:34:58said those few words to them. I can guarantee you that there
- 2:35:01isn't anyone anywhere who chooses death easily.
- 2:35:04Yeah, and if you think about how many people commit suicide in
- 2:35:10Korea, it's a lot. Oh yeah.
- 2:35:13I think the show was super important for them, for
- 2:35:16everyone. Whoever had that thought or is
- 2:35:19struggling, I think this is exactly it.
- 2:35:24So, yeah, and they say that in like episode one, I think the
- 2:35:28director has like a meeting with all of the heads of the
- 2:35:31departments and Chuwathong, and she's like, we have the highest
- 2:35:35death suicide rate and the lowest birth weight.
- 2:35:39It's embarrassing. Like she said, something to that
- 2:35:41effect. Like get your shit.
- 2:35:42Together, we have to do something.
- 2:35:43And also hell is full. We cannot be sending everybody
- 2:35:46kills. Themselves to hell like.
- 2:35:49Said hell is like overflowing. Yeah, so I it's true.
- 2:35:55Like this message is for the Koreans.
- 2:35:58I, I feel like we need sometimes do not forget that Korean dramas
- 2:36:02are made for Koreans. So to always look also like, of
- 2:36:06course, it's similar to our story maybe, or what we knowing
- 2:36:11or grew up knowing, just it can also apply to us, right?
- 2:36:15But mainly a lot of those things are specific to Korea and we can
- 2:36:20never forget that, that sometimes some things will be
- 2:36:23for Koreans. Yes I agree, so thank you so
- 2:36:28much Pam for going on this really hard journey with me and
- 2:36:32talking about really difficult topics and re watching a show
- 2:36:37and you're not a re watching type of person.
- 2:36:40I really so appreciate it so much.
- 2:36:42This was a wonderful conversation.
- 2:36:45Pam, where can people find you online?
- 2:36:47So first of all, thank you so much for having me.
- 2:36:49It was so fun in a way, entertaining, lovely, sad,
- 2:36:54everything all at once like tomorrow.
- 2:36:57And I'm pretty much on every social media platform that you
- 2:37:01can find. But I would say that I'm most
- 2:37:04active on Instagram and Tiktok if talking about all kinds of
- 2:37:08Asian dramas. And if you like BLS more like
- 2:37:11Thai BLS, Japanese BLS, I'm on Twitter very active talking on
- 2:37:14that. Awesome.
- 2:37:17So we'll link everything in the show notes for you guys.
- 2:37:20And that's it, we'll be back next time.
- 2:37:23That's our show. I'm Jessica and this has been
- 2:37:26the Tebakia Rambles. Podcast.
- 2:37:57The.
